Welcome to the twenty-ninth edition of
the World Lacrosse Championships!

Image

NationStates' longest-running international lacrosse competition is back. Throughout its storied history of 28 editions, 18 different nations have conquered the world to lift the most sought-after trophy in the sport, bringing pride to their nations and forging their own legacies. Vangaziland are the defending WLC champions, and Cosumar have the most medals of any active nation. Will one of them continue their dynasty, or could your nation be next?

Post here to sign up for the tournament or bid to host. Being a traditionally smaller competition, the WLC is a great tournament for newer hosts to build experience, but some experience with xkoranate and RPing on this forum is highly recommended.

The Razen Lacrosse Federation [Razenthuria] and Banija Lacrosse Association [Banija] present their bid to host the 29th World Lacrosse Championships
#BANIJAZEN

RAZENTHURIA
The State of Razenthuria, also known as the Crown Republic of Razenthuria is a large island nation situated on the Lotus Keys in the region of Esportiva, home to nearly 80 million Esportivan-Africans who stretch far beyond the eye can see. The nation, which has developed upon the common core of democracy is also a variation of modern-day government, based off the principle of the Westminister government - being a former colony between 1831 and 1942, our proud lands were discovered by the explorer, Francis Afrenzia, a man of African descent. Plunged onto the world, seventy-five years ago, a bloody civil war waged thru the nation - creating the world we know today as Razenthuria, freeing it from the bondage and slavery of years previous, as a nearly-united nation was created - our incarnation of the Razen Gods of Mabeza and Siduvila, creating Razenthuria in what seculars refer to as 1942, more familiarly in Razenthuria as R-339, the Year of Victory. Razenthuria now functions as a nation - slightly theocratic, the nation is lead by the Chief Chancellor, who serves also the High Chieftain of the nation - while officially the head of state, the High Chieftain has little to no known power - he or she is elected into place once every five years, the current High Chieftain being R'Verzaka, belonging to the National Traditionalist Party - elected in R-409. Situated on a large archipelago, Razenthuria has come to be known as the "Fire Isles", notable for being the home of the four ancient kingdoms of the Fire Island, the Earth Kingdom, the Air Nomads the North-and-South Water Tribes.
Modern-day Razen culture derives heavily from the ways of past - it can be described as a mix of Kita-Hinode and Banija, a nation with heavy African-and-Asian roots, Japanese and Igbo are the two predominant languages that are spoken within the nation. A common staple is to see foods of two entirely different cultures mixed together, 'fufu', a staple of the Razen African traditionalist diet is commonly mixed with a Melon-and-Sushi soup, allowing for new flavors to flow within the nation and a strange cultural fuse. While much of the nation also speaks English - even adhering to English names within cities and such, the far east remains predominantly Hinodejin-inspired, Soroku being the title point of the main Asian population within the nation. To the south lay the traditional African population - the vibrant Raza civilization still remains highly-prevalent, against all odds - in the past, extermination has been attempted thrice, however, the nation has also been able to come together in the spirit of the higher gods. Thru the experimentations of the Asian influences and modern-day influences, football has gained a foothold within Razenthuria, being the most-popular sport, commonly-sharing the title with lacrosse and gridiron, however, in recent years, the rise of lacrosse - particularly sparked by the Starliga lacrosse league in Razenthuria has given way to a huge surge in the lax sport within Razenthuria.
OOC - RAZENTHURIA
Razenthuria is a new member to NS Sports, joining the community in time for the 79th World Cup - in which it only won three games the entire cycle - not much is known on Razenthuria, however, Razenthuria has managed his domestic leagues - being Starliga (domestic lacrosse), the RazenLeague pyramid (football) and the G-League (gridiron), representing the entirety of Razenthuria's scorination. He also manages the quiet RZN Premier which covers the magical sport of quidditch, which he scorinates thru babbage rules. Razenthuria has won the praise of a few people for his fluidity of his roleplay and his league, which Cosumar has described as a footballing league with potential, "I can see it becoming a desirable league in the future.", Razenthuria has taken these to heart and hopes to further boost his domestic league. Thus far, he’s been confined to hosting only his domestic sportts given the 13-nil voting loss to Vilitia with their Rogue 72 bid, a bid with Banija brings credibility to a bid for the WLC, with the former having hosted a previous WLC.

BANIJA
The Kingdom of Banija is a country that classifies itself as a semi-constitutional monarchy. A nation that is a member of Atlantian Oceania, it is led by the Kabaka(which translates to King), and the current monarch is Kabaka Albert III. The Kabaka, alongside with the Waziri(translates to Foreign Minister), whom he picks and dismisses solely at his pleasure, is the Head of State and responsible for the country's foreign affairs.

The Lukiiko(translates to Parliament) is a democratically-elected, constituency-based, first past the post, legislature that has the power of the purse and controls all legislative affairs for the country. The Lukiiko, every term, elects the Katikkiro (Prime Minister), who picks a cabinet and leads the government. Racially, the nation is 93.2% black. This is a very religious based Christian nation, as 87% of Banijans are affiliated with the state church, the Puritan Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, whose followers are called Puritan Mormons. Shia Islam is the next largest religious community at 9% of the national population. The Guardian Council, a council of 6 members, with 3 picked by the Kabaka from the House of Katende(the royal house), and 3 picked by the Church, has the ability to oppose laws based on religious or constitutional grounds. Due to the immense powers granted to the Guardian Council, at least 5 of the 6 members have to support any proposed course of action for the Guardian Council Act, meaning that they rarely act, but when they do, they act with extreme authority.

Due to the massive influence of Puritan Mormonism in this nation, they are relatively socially conservative. Abortion in this country is outlawed unless the mother's life is in danger, and the church's Universal Call to Motherhood, which teaches that the destiny of each and every woman is to give birth to children and raise faithful Puritan Mormons, has heavily shaped the nation's view on the role of women in society. Therefore, it is against the law for any professional sports teams based in Banija to have men and women on the team. However, this law only applies to teams based in Banija, which is why it is perfectly legal when foreign-based teams, either for away games or when Banija hosts tournaments, to have people of any gender. Meaning that the ban on co-ed sports does not apply at this tournament or any tournaments that the country hosts, except for the Banijan team itself. Consumption of alcohol and the recreational use of marijuana in Banija is legal.

Of course, Banija is a 3rd world country by modern economic standards. A general lack of development in Banija, we are a country with excellent sporting infrastructure, but little else. Most roads are dirt, and public transit within cities is via the boda boda, though each team will have two 45 passenger busses to transport players, coaches, staff, family, etc... To and from the hotel to the games and practices. The climate of Banija has a lot of natural rainforest and jungle, which means that there is no winter, only wet season and dry season. Temperatures generally range at their coldest around 60 degrees farenheit, and at their hottest around 110 degrees farenheit. For the duration of the tournament, average high temperatures will range from 60 to 85 degrees farenheit.

The two international airports within Banija are Istria International and Busukuma International, for the largest city and capitol city, respectively. All the cities hosting games have their own airport, but teams/fans will have to fly in via the two international airports, and then take a connecting flight to their eventual destinations.

The most recent government elected is a nationalist, right wing government. They have recently passed a law, in line with church beliefs, banning the sale of both tea and coffee products within the Kingdom of Banija- with the exemption of the Busoga Islands(who are not hosting any games). However, the consumption and possession of coffee products are not banned- but teams and visiting fans will not be able to purchase it within Banija, meaning they will be encouraged to bring their own coffee into the country.

OOC - BANIJA
Banija is a longstanding member of the lacrosse community on NS Sports, only missing one edition of the tournament since the 21st WLCs. Alongside solo hosting the 28th World Lacrosse Championships, the tournament has launched my own hosting resume, allowing to add with various tournaments, as listed below.

    Banijan Soccer League
NSCAA 7 Great Sky & Mugisha III Memorial Conferences(plus games in the 1st round of the NSCAA tournament)

    Ultimaverse Champions League(as Amazonesta)
    World Lacrosse Championships 28
    World Bowl 34
    World Twenty20 Championship X
International Basketball Championships 25(co-hosted with Filindostan)
    Istria Open
Baptism of Fire 67(co-hosted with Qasden)

Sign-ups updated to Xabia. That’s 15.

Setting a deadline of Tuesday, May 29 for any further bids. Let’s try to get this tournament up and running in about a week. Since sign-ups are slow, we’ll probably have a quick turnaround after the host vote.
