Quidditch World Cup 8 - Sign ups [ CLOSED ]

Postby Razenthuria » Fri Apr 27, 2018 2:11 pm

Dears Wizards and Witches of the Multiverse,

In the opposite world, we have watched as the muggles attempt to stage their blasphemy of a sport - the one the word as 'football', the lackadaisical sport for muggles to attempt to think they can have the grace and pureness of our sport, the wonderful sport that we know as Quidditch. We in Razenthuria have arranged for the muggle government to allow truckloads of visitors into our nation in an attempt to stage the eighth edition of the wonderful sport we've come to know as - [ No! Stop it, the gobbleworms may not be given to Madam Buggleworths, Miss Redfur! ] - as I was saying, it is time for the return of the one and only competition of our sanctified world, ah yes - the QUIDDITCH WORLD CUP! Ah, yes, its been a shame, our world has lacked without a proper tournament for five years now (OOC - its been roughly a year), the games of quidditch must return to our hallowed fields. And, the Ministry of Magic of Razenthuria is proud to present its attempt to grab your broomsticks for the Quidditch World Cup!

Exciting! -
We've got four teams (incl. me) and it seems I'm decent enough to host! I plan for IC reasons to make a magical version of Razenthuria, alternate to that of Razenthuria, so stadiums will be bigger and rl-stadiums will not be used, so a lot of conceptual art-type stadiums!

As indicated by the first post and the logo, I was planning on hosting the edition as a revival of the tournament, however, if seconded, I will convert this simply to sign-ups and retract my planned hosting.

I'll second Ethane here. I'll note that I have no problems whatsoever with you bidding to host, but I'm not really comfortable with people unilaterally declaring themselves the hosts of an established tournament like this.

Given EQS's and Ethane's concerns over my hosting capabilities I shall retrsct the host bid due to the precedent that NS Sports has adopted. Apologies if I made a mistake ;-;

Not in. Just here to make a point.

Neither EQS, nor Ethane doubt your hosting capabilities. It is just that the Quidditch World Cup is quite an established event, and it should be open to host bids and not hosted by a unilateral decision. You can definitely put in a host bid on which people may vote and deem you host for the tourney!

Cheers!

I have a question: Is there an age limit for players? The Sherpa Empire has magic, but people with enough magical ability to play quidditch are 1 in a million. The government would never sponsor an adult team because those people are supposed to be royalty or clergy, but they might sponsor a team for magically-talented teenagers that are too young to go into the clergy.

As above, it's no comment on Razen's ability to host anything, but this is not a long dead 'revival' with a "sure, why not, give it a shot". Bids please :)

You can make up your own rules for your player's entry into a national team, by all means.

I would certainly enjoy joining a quidditch Cup of any kind (especially considering my attempt at hosting a small busy-for-fun one within my region seems to have fallen through)

Quidditch is a glorious sport!
xD, reading a wiki article might help!!
    Bubbling Bloodballs Galore!
    Or more simply:
Quidditch matches are played over an oval-shaped pitch, with a scoring area at each end consisting of three hooped goal posts, each at a different height. Each team is made up of seven players, consisting of three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper and one Seeker. The job of the Chasers is to keep possession of the scarlet Quaffle, a leather ball passed between players. They must attempt to score goals (worth 10 points) by throwing it through one of the opponents' three hoops. These hoops are defended by the opposing team's Keeper, who ideally tries to block their goals. Meanwhile, players of both teams are attacked indiscriminately by the two Bludgers. These are round, jet-black balls made of iron that fly around violently trying to knock players off their brooms. It is the Beaters' job to defend their teammates from the Bludgers; they carry short wooden clubs, which they use to knock the Bludgers away from their teammates and/or toward the opposing team. Finally, the role of the Seeker is to catch the Golden Snitch. This is a small golden ball the approximate size of a walnut. The winged Snitch is enchanted to hover, dart, and fly around the pitch, avoiding capture while remaining within the boundaries of the playing area. Catching the Snitch ends the game and scores the successful Seeker's team 150 points. As the team with the most points wins, this often guarantees victory for the successful Seeker's team. A notable exception is when Bulgaria Seeker Viktor Krum catches the Snitch for Bulgaria during the World Cup Final in Goblet of Fire, while his team are still 160 points behind Ireland (their opponents), thus making his own team lose by only 10 points.
