Savojarna National Tourist Office - Visitor's Guide to Savojarna

We expect visitors from all over the multiverse to arrive to our beautiful country for the Savojar International Sevens. To prevent unwanted surprises, here are the most important things you should know if you come to this nation. The Savojars are friendly and open people, but the law in this nation can be harsh and it is best to be prepared and know your borders and rights. Similarly, it is important to know where to go and what not to miss - surely you don't want to go home and never have seen the famous Great White Dragons? Here is all you need to know as a visitor to Savojarna!

Savojarna is a nation shaped by the roughness and hard conditions of the life on those frozen islands. Often, settlements got too big for what limited resources our soil offers, and the only way to improve the supplies of food was war. This rough environment has hardened us all. For many years, war was the way a man had to take to bring his family through the winter, be it war on his neighbour or on the fruitful lands of Russica. The country hadn't been united until the 16th century, and only in the early 19th century did said unity become more than just central rule from Sjoedrhavn. The divisions of the old times can still be seen and felt, and we definitely advise you to see more than just the city of Sjoedrhavn - even though there is no way of denying you should take a look at it. Travel up north to the rough wilderness of Northern Vestrholm and make some expeditions into nature from Jarnstad. Take a short flight (or a boat) to Storevik and explore the Silver Mountains of Ejana, where the silver was mined that allowed Ejana to reign almost the entire nation from Storevik in the 9th century. Stroll through the vast forests of Sumanen, taste its many berries and see one of the famous Savojar Dragons. Or see the centre of Savojar Christianity in St. Andrei, down south in Russica.

While Rugby isn't a massive sport around here, the double event of the Savojar Sevens Championship and the International Sevens happening in the span of a week at the Stadion Karl Marx is bound to draw some crowds, and Union Sevens is the most popular code by far. Rugby has some unique traditions in Savojar sports that stem from its long tradition as a preparation for war: There are a few ceremonies attached to the games, a lot of war chanting and drums are present among fans, and the league is still organised in the old Jarldoms, with transfers between them almost unheard of.

Getting here, getting around

Sevens attendees will likely fly to the capital, Sjoedrhavn. This means you will land at Sjoedrhavn International, from where most major national airlines fly to the bigger Multiverse nations. IAS flies to most Rushmori nations and to many destinations in other major nations as well. Some low-budget airlines fly to Thorsborg, from where there is a high speed connection to Sjoedrhavn. Your match ticket serves as a ticket on all national and Sjoedrhavn trains for three days before and after the match! If you fly to Pawlograd, there is a ferry connection which takes about three hours and is covered by the ticket as well. Alternatively, you may want to take a domestic flight which will likely cost you around 30-50 SAK. Visa are easy to get as most Rushmori nations don't need a visum (but need to announce their stay - if you fly with IAS, that was taken care of when you bought the ticket). For the week before and after the matches, this practice was extended to all citizens of nations coming to play in Savojarna. For staying longer, you will need a tourist visum which can be obtained at every Savojar embassy or consulate or on www.immigrationoffice.int.gov.sj.

In Savojarna, you will mostly use public transport. Within all participant cities, public transport is entirely free. Between cities, we have a high speed train network, the use of which is free to ticket holders on game days to travel to or from the venue! Inter-island-travel is usually done by boat (boat transfers are included in intercity train tickets, or can be bought on their own) or by domestic flights. Airports can be found in Sjoedrhavn, Pawlograd, St. Andrei, Thorsborg, Storevik, Virkaja and Hovikkära. Major ports are to be found in Sjoedrhavn, Pawlograd, Storevik, Hovikkära and Jarnstad. Public transport is reliable and affordable. If you want to rent a car, this is possible at airports and train stations. You need to have had a driving license of your home country for at least three years and be over 21 to rent a car, and to drive it you need to have a valid driver's license and be at least 18 years old.

A Place to Stay, A Way to Pay

Sjoedrhavn has a number of hotels and hostels in all price classes. For the games, we advise you to book early on to avoid bad surprises. In the whole country, a number of camping places and guesthouses can be found, while big hotels are not that common outside tourist hotspots. Small private guesthouses and Bed&Breakfasts are quite common in smaller towns and along tourist areas. Contact the SNTO under http://www.touristinfo.int.gov.sj for more information on a certain area.

You pay for all this with the Savojar Krona (SAK). There are coins for 10, 20 and 50 Öre and for 1, 2 and 5 Kronor, while the bank notes are worth 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 Kronor. Money can be obtained at any change bureau or bank, and there are such located in any major train station or airport. Please only use the Bank of Savojarna exchange places/banks, as other offers are illegal and we do not guarantee that you will not receive invalid or fake money. The Bank of Savojarna is the only institution licensed to offer exchange. You can also obtain money at any ATM, which are equipped to use most credit and debit cards used in the Multiverse. However, this cannot be expected of stores and shops, as Savojars typically pay for things with cash.

Typical prices in central Sjoedrhavn:
- a big beer (0.5 l): 5-7 SAK
- a glass of water or soda (0.5 l): 3-5 SAK
- a coffee: 3 SAK
- a meal in a restaurant: 20-25 SAK
- a taxi ride (5 km, day): 20 SAK
- a night at a hotel (three stars): 70-100 SAK
- a night at a hostel: 20-25 SAK
- a cinema ticket: 15-20 SAK

Sjoedrhavn

Sjoedrhavn is the nation's capital, located in the south of Vestrholm in a natural harbour. Due to this location, it became a big trading station and a major port for the navy. The old town of Sjoedrhavn comes largely from the 17th and 18th century, while the Docklands, serving as the primary nightlife district of the city, were erected in the early 20th century. It is the traditional seat of power in Savojarna through most of the modern time, and even longer ago in Vestrholm. It is a pride and vibrant city that stands on par with many other capital cities in the Multiverse.

The Fédération Mariannoise de Rugby is elated to make its' NSRB 7's debut in Savojarna, a nation with whom the post-revolution Marianne has much in common. Sevens rugby has become one of the more popular sports in Marianne in recent years, largely as a result of its' brevity and speed. The national sevens team has yet to appear on the international stage, and as a result the expectations will be fairly low- and should be kept even lower considering the very strong group that Les Sept Pommes have been drawn into. Neu Engollon were the runners up for the Plate at the URSA Sevens in Lisander. Alpine Union were semi-finalists for that same Plate (actually losing to Neu Engollon) and Kiaser Colonies were a rugby powerhouse back when Cotdelapoms was last active in the international sports scene and currently sit fifth in the NSRB Sevens table. Frankly, we have very good reason to think Les Sept Pommes will no go very far, yet still we persist!

The squad is fast, like the sport itself, and made up largely of specialists in Sevens- although some of the players play professional XV rugby, the majority are contracted specifically to the national team. Rugby sometimes is associated with the upper classes in other countries, but the Sevens team in particular in Marianne is multi-ethnic and fairly representative of the nation as a whole- there are Indigenous Rushmori players, along with players from the diaspora (Polarian, Mytanar, Pocoan, Mwembamban, et cetera). The most famous Sevens player in Marianne is Amadeus Rubinek-Lapointe, a safe bet for the team's leading scorer. The side that has been selected by manager Thierry Lajoie is however not especially big or physical and may have trouble against sides that are- the goal each time out will be to turn the match into a shootout, and if they are capable of controlling the tempo and doing that there just may be some upsets on the horizon.

Rugby is the third most popular sport in Elejamie, behind ice hockey and football (or soccer; American football is called "gridiron" and is considered a niche sport at best). Rugby union is the most popular form in Elejamie, with rugby league having a small but loyal fanbase. However, it wasn't until 2016 when there finally was an officially sanctioned rugby sevens tournament was announced: The ERC 7s, which begins on the fourth Friday of August and lasts for three days. Simply put, all twelve teams in that season's ERC (Elejamian Rugby Championship) are divided into two groups of six and play a single round robin tournament to see whether they'll play for the Cup, the Plate or the Bowl. The first group's games are played on the Friday, the second group's games are played on the following Saturday and the semi-finals, 3PPOs and Cup/Plate/Bowl finals are played on Sunday afternoon/evening. The second tournament in Edgebaston saw the Murgon Bullfrogs shut out the Coventry Wyverns 12-0, thanks to two tries from Adam McCracken. The Plate saw the Avon Knights crush both their opponents (44-0 against the Elejamie City Eagles in the semi-final and 41-6 against the Auckhampton Birch Trees in the final), whereas the Iceland Panthers beat the newly-promoted Mainsborough Delphi 19-11 to take home the Bowl.

Elejamie had a fairly good time in the last competition in Lisander. In the group stage, they won all but one game; a disappointing 21-19 loss to the Alpine Union thanks to David Kramer scoring the try but Gary Toda missing the conversion. Fortunately, they bounced back with a 33-7 win over Kita-Hinode to reclaim their spot at the top of the table. They followed it up with a 41-0 destruction of the Kiaser Colonies before getting a double over Hutanjia, 24-14. Eventually, they were up against Frenline Delpha and, after a hard-fought final, Elejamie came away the 21-17 victors. Here's hoping they can keep this up for their next stop here in Savojarna or, at the very least, stay in the running for the Rugby Sevens World Cup.

SavojarSports.sj - inside reports from all Savojarna
Savojar Roster for the Savojar International Sevens

Savojarna's rugby culture is relatively young, even though similar games have been played in the nation since the middle ages. Mediaeval football games were very popular in Savojarna and looked probably more like today's rugby, often ending in a vicious brawl. In fact, it was so bad that the authorities had executed a total of 9 men in 1241 for playing a football match carrying swords, which apparently did not remain unused. In later times, Savojar warriors enjoyed a game that is seen by Savojars as the direct predecessor to rugby, and was often also played with blunt weapons as it was seen as a preparation for battle. Many of the traditions from this game carried over to rugby.

Sevens and Union are the two most popular codes in Savojarna, with League almost unheard of. The Savojar league is conducted in Rugby Union, and it consists of 14 teams playing each other twice. Between the seasons, there is a prestigious series of Rugby Sevens tournaments, the so called Triple S (Savojar Sevens Series). The Triple S consists of the eight best teams of the Savojar Rugby Serien ranking, which is conducted over the last three years, referred to as the Triple S Class. They are automatically invited to all four Triple S tournaments, traditionally played in Storevik, Savojagrad, Virkaja and Thorsborg. Each tournament also invites four more teams (not necessarily the same four), and the tournaments are played in groups of 6 followed by a semifinal and a final. After the four tournaments, the six best teams are invited to Sjoedrhavn for the Triple S Final Tournament. There, they play a play-off for the title of Rugby Sevens Champion of Savojarna. Last season, the SRS was won by Zenit Nordrvik from Ejana while the Triple S got won by Motor Savojagrad.

RP PERMISSIONS

Godmod scoring events: N
RP injuries to my players: Y (if it is serious, TG me and wait for approval)
Godmod injuries to my players: N

Hand out red cards to my players: Y (no more than one)

A note about godmodding: Everything that could happen under real world physics and rules, but is unlikely is fair game. So, if you want to RP someone kicked a ball across the whole pitch to score, do it, even if that is possibly a godmod (and probably not "possible" under RL physics and RL humans, but not completely unimaginable if you have exceptionally strong players I guess. If you do stuff that is impossible though - magic etc. - that is not okay.
Second note regarding violence: Feel free to stage a fight between Savojars and your people (be it fans or players) if you want. However, Savojarna has an incredibly strong warrior culture and always honoured fighters, so expect to get a bloody nose or two. Also, along with this culture comes a strong sense of honours and ethics in a fight. In Savojarna, it is regarded as extremely bad form and a strong sign of cowardness to hurt a person who is visibly beaten or does not want to fight. This means that you are free to brawl with Savojars, but please do not have any Savojars attacking innocents or engaging in group violence against people laying on the ground. We do not do that. Also, we don't hit people from behind if we are not in a fight already. Getting behind an opponent is a sign of bad skill on their part and a it's fair move to use in a fight. Getting behind an unsuspecting person and sucker punching them from behind is a move for cowards who don't dare to confront their opponent face to face.

My overall account that I use for P2TM and even for international roleplaying! DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
National rugby sevens team

This will be the first time that Abanhfleft will be participating in Savojar International Sevens, which also happens to be in its first edition right now. Rugby sevens is, quite frankly, a fringe sport in the Democratic Republic, with most of its players being either rugby union or rugby league players in their professional careers. However, the country simply couldn't resist the temptation to go for some sporting silverware, and therefore the rugby sevens national team that was assembled and sent to Londinium in Nova Anglicana for yet another shot at glory is now back and in Burgunden, Neu Engollon for more glory, and this time they want something very shiny!

THE CHIEFDOM OF COPPER CUPRUM
NATIONAL RUGBY SEVENS TEAM

This is the first time that Copper Cuprum will be participating in an international rugby sevens competition, as well as the Savojar International Sevens. Rugby is the most popular sport in Copper Cuprum, and although rugby league is the more popular code in the Chiefdom, both rugby union and rugby sevens still have a decent following. Copper Cuprum had been long isolated from the international community since it is a small island archipelago located deep in the middle of the Lazarus Ocean, far from any regular shipping lanes since man first sailed ships. The nation was only discovered by the Fleftic Navy in 1914, when they were searching for the daughter of President Rufus Wole Mensah, whose ship was wrecked in the general vicinity of the islands. Arriving in the capital of the islands, they discovered that Chief Zed had made the President's daughter his queen, generating a sudden alliance between the two countries. And Copper Cuprum was also rich in copper, so that was a good thing for Abanhfleft too...

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation:
The Chiefdom of Copper Cuprum
Demonym: Copperite
Kits: Initially, the Copperite national rugby sevens team was not supposed to wear any kits as ordinary people know them. Instead they would have played wearing only white loincloths and nothing else. However, in the interests of modesty and compliance with the international standard, the Copperite team has elected to choose a new uniform with alternating black and white hoops and black shorts.
Team colors: Black and white
Style modifier: +1.00 (A balanced team with a slight focus on offense)
Head coach: Count Tumale Boweba (47 y/o, Copper Cuprum)
Notes: It is Copperite tradition to slit the throat of a live chicken before a game and then spread the spilled blood on the field. However, after the Valladar authorities advised the Copperite Football Federation against performing this tradition after local audiences were shocked by this tradition, it has been decided that in place of this tradition, Copperite players will now cut off the head of a rubber chicken before a game and then toss the head around like a hot potato. However, Copperite players will now perform the chicken sacrificing ritual whether or not the other team (or the event organizers for that matter) likes it. The Copperites hope to turn this tradition into their version of the haka.

Located in Wa Deg, the capital of Copper Cuprum, it is also the home ground of the Wa Deg Giants of the Copperite Rugby League, Wa Deg Carabiners of the Rugby Coalition and Wa Gon Giants A.F.C. of Copperite League Two.

RP PERMISSIONS

Barunian rugby is at an all-time high at the moment, giving the success of the team at the 26th Rugby Union World Cup, where the team, the Waves, came home with the trophy. The Small Waves, the 7s side, will hope to follow in the wake of the Waves and ride the wave of their success.

Due to Barunia Rugby only making the decision to compete at an emergency meeting hours before the deadline, there was naturally a scramble to find players to make a team. Unlike the full game, rugby 7s is not exempt from Barunia's gender equality policy, so men and women are able to compete equally. The male players are all from the world-cup winning squad, while the female players include both experienced players from previous 7s internationals and exciting debutants (Leith and Spiers).

Team Name: The Small Waves

-Starters-
1 Findlay Martin - Prop
2 Andrew Mortlock - Hooker (captain)
3 Danielle Leith - Prop
4 Marina Bishop - Scrum-half
5 Monty O'Shea - Fly-Half
6 Emmanuel Ngobe - Centre Back
7 Mike Rogers - Full Back

-Reserve-
8 Nathan Stanley - Prop
9 Ross Wood - Prop
10 Sarah Spiers - Hooker
11 Leo Marconi - Scrum-Half
12 George Moore - Fly-Half
13 Adam Burns - Centre
14 Matilda Roper - Fullback

SavojarSports.sj - inside reports from all Savojarna
Savojarna's Sevens Championship

The Savojar Sevens Series is a bit of a peculiar championship, with teams qualifying through the Rugby Union championship for a series of four tournaments. For each of the four tournaments in Storevik, Savojagrad, Virkaja and Thorsborg, the top eight of the last three championships combined and four wildcard teams (one of which typically is the host) are competing for the Triple S Finals, also known as the Savojar Sevens Championship. This tournament was contested last week in the Stadion Karl Marx as a "intro" to the Savojar International Sevens.

Sumanen Sevens: Virkaja

In the Sumanen Sevens, the first group saw a big surprise as the first-seeded Bergjarler came last with zero points. From the beginning onwards, Sumanen Pohjoiseen (or North Sumanen) and Landsmarks länet, the number two and three of the group. However, a clear victory for eighth-seeded Sydjarlslän against Landmarks länet made the Sydjarler reach the semifinals instead and banished LL to the placement rounds. In group B, the less favoured seeded teams Ejana and Välineet Sumanen (South Sumanen) took the lead relatively early on. After a narrow loss to Ejana in the opener, VS didn't give up a single game while Ejana lost to Jaromirgradskaja and, surprisingly, Thorslän to come second. Thus, the semifinals were North Sumanen vs. Ejana and South Sumanen vs. Sydjarlslän. The tournament was rather bitter for hosts Sumanen Etelä, who only received the deciding drop goal to draw against Sydjarlslän in the final moments of their game. This drop goal meant they only came fourth in their group and could only play for 7th against the wildcard team of Jarnslän.
In the semifinals, Sumanen Pohjoiseen took an early lead against Ejana and held on to it despite a hard resistance from the team. Nevertheless, the winner of the first group held on to their lead to reach the final, where they had almost clashed with South Sumanen. However, following an early 5-0 lead, the South Sumanen team entirely collapsed to concede 31 points and lose the second semifinal 31-5. In the final, North Sumanen was the dominating force, taking an early lead over Sydjarlslän and winning the rematch of their group game with 33-19. Meanwhile, Bergjarler completed their disastrous showing with a further loss against Nordviken, meaning that the best-seeded team ended up dead last.

Savojagrad Sevens

In Savojagrad, the downhill of Bergjarler found somewhat of a halt as they could avoid another humiliation as in Virkaja. The Bergjarler team managed at least three victories, but as they lost with a whopping 40-0 against the first winner Sumanen Pohjoiseen and also lost the final match against Ejana (which would have had to be won to qualify), the top seed of the rankings could only qualify for the placement games yet again. The qualifiers in the first group were Virkaja champions North Sumanen with only one loss against Vesterkustslän, a wildcard team, and the third-ranked Jaromirgrad. A disappointing performance was Ejana's group stage, which had started decently with a clear victory over Pawlogradskaja but then went downhill with four straight losses. Group B was dominated by the perfect record of Sydjarlslän, while third-placed Välineet Sumanen could beat all other three teams in the group to take second place. While Landsmarks länet still could compete and only lost out definitively on the last day, the other three teams all heavily disappointed, including the hosts.
In the first semifinal we saw a Sumani derby that ended with a very clear victory for the team from the South. Välineet Sumanen won the match with 33-5, taking control from the beginning and never giving up their tight grip on their Northern rivals. The other semifinal was only marginally less clear, with Jaromirgradskaja beating the previously unbeaten Sydjarlslän with 26-12. After their impressive victory, Välineet Sumanen were the favourites against Jaromirgradskaja and could indeed lead until shortly before the end, but then Jaromirgradskaja scored a try half a minute before the end. Confined far out to the left, the kick was far from easy and had to be converted with the score at 19-19, but it did indeed hit the goal to score the Russians the victory. Ejana somewhat rectified their horrible group stage with a 41-7 trashing of the hosts, which was even overshadowed by the clear victory of Andriskaja who shut out Vesterkustlän for the 7th place. Thanks to a somewhat disappointing showing of Sydjarlslän and a loss in the placement round to direct rivals North Sumanen, the latter could retain the lead in the standings, now ahead of runners-up Välineet Sumanen.

That’s a good start to the tournament a win 21-19 over one of the the best teams in the world. Surprisingly we did not have a good start to the game in fact we started with losing 10-0 but we got 2 tries, 1 penalty, 2 drop goals and 2 conversions that won us the game 21-19. The winning Drop Goal was scored by Rhys Smith that won the game with 52 seconds remaining. The 2 tries we’re scored by Darryl Dawson and Greg Kinsler. The 2 drop goals were scored by Darryl Dawson and Rhys Smith. The penalty was scored by Darryl Dawson, and finally the conversions were scored by Greg Kinsler and Brian Edwards.

Sevens Squad Squashes Seventh Spot Side in Sjoedrhavn
Neu Engollon 7–33 Marianne

Moreso than many other sports, Rugby Sevens is designed to surprise. The ratio of athletes to open field is such that it's hard to just grind a team down with your size as in the full XV version of the game, and it also allows one player on a very good day to take over a game entirely. Marianne Sevens manager Thierry Lajoie knows this very well, and set his team up beautifully to succeed on the opening day of the Savojar International Sevens. Facing a Neu Engollon side that currently sits seventh in the NSRB Sevens Series was theoretically a daunting challenge, but it was one Lajoie was prepared for.

"I thought our cutout passing was superb today- ball movement is so critical when you're up against a team like Neu Engollon. And I want to single out Abdelmalek (Gauthier-Kazri), whose field vision was incredible- I think any time he was given the ball he found a hole or created one. Everyone had their best ever performance today and that's exactly what we'll need to go far in this tournament." said Lajoie of his squad, which scored five tries (2 from Gauthier-Kazri, one a piece from Amadeus Rubinek-Lapointe, Blake Perreault and Ludo Bouchard).

Marianne's next matchup will be with the Kiaser Colonies, and will be broadcast live on TV17+, and on tv17plus.ma.

Marie-France's Guide to Savojarna!
Marie-France Daigle is the host of «Femme du monde», Marianne's most popular travel show.

When you log onto Savojarna's tourism website for the Marianne market "visite-savojarne.sj", you're greeted with images of dragons and warriors and forests. The website automatically plays some aggressive metal music, which is maybe not to the taste of everyone. You get the impression that you'll have to fight to survive in Savojarna, that only the toughest of the tough should be traveling to perhaps the precise opposite end of the Rushmori mainland of Marianne. If you come during the Savojar International Sevens rugby tournament, as I have, you may think that warrior spirit will be omnipresent, and simple tasks such as getting around and drinking coffee will be slogs rewarding only the burliest and most badass.

Of course, that is foolish and not the case. In fact, despite our geographical lack of proximity, Marianne and Savojarna have fairly similar cultures and attitudes (although Mariannois(e) will be perplexed on a reliance on cash, prepare to make some trips to the ATM). There's an extensive welfare state and you can tell the people are content with their lives. Thusfar I've only spent 24 hours in Sjoedrhavn and two main things have stood out- this city has excellent public transit, and the locals do not like my accent when I try to speak their language. I took a series of Savojarnian classes prior to my departure, and my instructor M. Grachov would frequently correct my accent, but you can only control so much!

I spent most of my day thusfar at Stadion Karl Marx watching our Seven Rugby Men beat Neu Engollon, so I've yet to explore as much as I hope to, but I'll update my blog as I go!

Irises Sevens - Info

New year, new team. With the stars of Top 12 in the Irises XV, a new selection was made before the olympics. Patricio Bernauer is assuming slowly the functions of Leonard Assen, recently-promoted to LRU Director of Rugby. Assen is now responsible for selecting and managing all the first-tier national teams: The Irises (XV), Irises Sevens, Junior Irises (U-20), The Lilies (Ladies XV). Bernauer keeps his eyes in Lisander A and in Lisander Barbarians, "unpaid" touring team, and is also the Head coach of Sevens. Gaetan Morian, who coached the team in Olympics, return to the Assistant Coach position.

The Irises Sevens are now relying more than ever in speed, with the entry on the roster of two of the fastest players in Lisanderian Rugby: Eleazar Castell and Christian Alte.

The Lisander Rugby Union uniforms for the season 26 are made by Valls Rugby. Contrary to what was believed, Valls didn't produced new Uniforms for Sevens, not for this tournament. Irises Sevens are using Irises RWC26 Uniforms.

Dave Carrey's Quick Guide to Group F
Dave Carrey - Soria, Lisander

It took us a while, but here we are. We're back with some more rugby sevens. However, due to a number of problems that I'm not going into, we're skipping over the Freedom 7s in Frenline Delpha and instead heading over to the Savojar 7s in, well, Savojarna. Rumour has it that Aquitayne's going to step in at some point to host a tournament, although I'm not sure if that's true and, if it is, when it'll be. Either way, let's concentrate on this one where, unlike the AVBF and URSA Sevens tournaments, there'll only be two pieces of silverware up for grabs: the Savojar People's Trophy and the Sjoedrhavn Shield. Hey, I'm not complaining, just as long as they have a way of giving out the necessary points for the Series then it's fine by me.

team. Here because I need
to fill up the space.
But what happened last time? How did our university teams do at the LARFC Sevens? The Eastern EU Elephants were pipped to the post in their first game against the Bay Brew's Ballers, 20-19. The Western EU Elites, however, fared much better. They beat the local Victorian Rugby team 36-14, followed by a 24-14 win over Stade Aquitain Beaumont which saw them qualify for the tournament proper. And they didn't do too badly there. They narrowly beat the local Club d'Escrime de Soria 19-17, followed by a much less narrow 26-12 beating of Sub Gon Raiders. However, a last-minute 26-24 defeat to the last-placed Northeastern Sharks saw them unable to progress through to the next round, with Soria going through instead. And getting trounced by fellow Lisanderians Harpies 7s 31-5, who'd go on to win the thing.

A complete 180 to the actual URSA Sevens. There, we got off to a brilliant start, trouncing Northwest Kalactin 40-10 in a game that saw us lead 23-0 at the break, before surprising everyone with a narrow 22-19 win in our first game against Hutanjia. After the 38-0 demolition of Mattijana, it seemed like the Alpine Union would be an easy win, right? Nope, we lost 21-19 to the Alpine Union, a team I still feel were the deserved victors on that day. Fortunately, we bounced back with a 33-7 win over Kita-Hinode to reclaim our spot at the top. We then followed this up with yet another destruction, this time 41-0 over the Kiaser Colonies. After winning our rematch against Hutanjia, this time 24-14, we were up against Frenline Delpha. There, thanks to a try each from David Kramer, Mical Caerofim and Paul Koppel, with Gary Toda converting each one, we managed to win 21-17 to take not only the cup home but finish first in the qualifying. Meanwhile, the Natanians and Nosts won the Plate whereas New South Munster won the Bowl.

However, we're not the only ones in our group who'll be trying to make it through to the next round. Our first opponents are Nevis and Kitts. They're new to the competition as you can probably tell. However, I'm not really sure how popular rugby is over there, what sort of teams there are or anything like that. Fortunately, I do have a list of players, which makes a nice change. And they're a mixed-gender team, with both male and female players. Somewhere along the lines of Mattijana, who are they most well-known mixed gender team in rugby so, you know, it should still be fun to watch. Even if we do end up steamrolling them.

Our second opponents are New South Munster. The last time we played them was at the AVBF Sevens at the start of the tour where we beat them 24-14. Despite coming second from last thanks to two wins over winless AllahAkbarium and shockingly Mattijana, they managed to pull through and storm through the Bowl semi-finals with wins over Apox and Darmen before going down 38-14 to Bvriania. And, as previously mentioned, they didn't do so well at the group stages in Lisander but made up for it in the Bowl section, beating the Greater Vakolicci Haven and Al Qurija before beating Filindostan 26-10 to take home the Bowl. I predict another win here, although I'm not sure how much by.

And our third and final opponents? Filindostan. Yes, we've got an URSA Sevens Bowl final rematch on our hands, which should be good viewing. They made their first appearance at the last stop on the tour, where they finished dead last in their group, equal on points and record with New South Munster but losing out on point difference (-7 for NSM and -42 for Filindostan). Fortunately for them, they bounced back with a 40-0 destruction of Northwest Kalactin and a 29-21 win over Aquitayne for a rematch against New South Munster. Having won their earlier encounter 17-15, it seemed like Filindostan would grab the double. Instead, they lost with the aforementioned score of 26-10 to finish runners-up. I predict another win for us here.

So will we be playing for the Savojar People's Trophy? Most definitely. I can't see it not happening However, would we be part of the best four that would automatically qualify or would we have to rely on the octo-finals just to make it to that point? In all honesty, I think we'd automatically qualify. After all, we're in an easy group where two opponents have never made it out of the Bowl stage and the other is a newcomer. Granted I'm not ruling out the chance of a shock defeat or even a narrow win or two but still, I'm confident we'll have what it takes to make it through to the next round.

There are five other groups here. Group A has hosts Savojarna, joined by Hutanjia, Qasden and the return of the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, making it to their first sevens tournament since the inaugural AVBF Sevens so long ago. Group B has Nova Anglicana, Mattijana, Darmen and the Main Nation Ministry. Group C seems to be the group of death, as you've got Neu Engollon, the Alpine Union and the Kiaser Colonies, as well as Marianne to balance things out. Group D has Abanhfleft, Barunia, Northwest Kalactin and Lochario. And Group E has Lisander, Devonta, Copper Cuprum and Tobiasia. Yes, no Natanians and Nosts, no Frenline Delpha, no Bvriania and no Alice Bay. Maybe they'll all make a return for the next competition, who knows?

Anything else I should mention? No, not really. As always, each and every game will be aired on The Rugby Channel, as well as streamed on their site. If you're unable to, then there should be highlights available, although I can't for the life of me remember the time and I don't really want to cheat by looking it up on their website. So, with me saying my piece, I shall be leaving you all to watch some quality sevens, hoping that you'll enjoy these matches and much as I do.
