David Blake: "And we're back on CBC Soccer Night, it's halftime at Star Field in Herzegovina City. Commonwealth 2, Siovanija and Teusland nil. And Aiden, you have a comment?" (panelists laugh together)
Aiden Donnen: "She's the greatest manager in the world. She's better than Ferguson, Zagallo, Trapattoni, Udo Lattek--most of you won't know who he is. But really, every button she's pushed this last match and a half has been the right one."
Gary Kostka: "the views expressed by Aiden are not necessarily those of CBC..."
Mindy Cartwright: "I think some people--not anyone here--underestimate Pam. She is a really great tactician and she gets players into the roles they are suited to. I think that's why a lot of the set piece breakdowns earlier got her so upset, because she realizes that's on her, that's not players doing poorly that's her not coaching properly."

DB: "and with that let's look at the first half highlights. Here in a second minute and BP already is controlling the possession and that's a good ball from Shaw to Jones and he sends it just wide. Right after, a good buildup here as Taborn works with Shaw and she then sends it through to Bozeman, who finds Jones lurking again and he's won a corner. Now in the 12th minute, Ashcroft makes his presence felt as he beats Klopfer to the header and Navarro races down the wing and her cross into the box finds Ashcroft, who heads it straight to the keeper Sauer. Gary?
GK: "I think Navarro brings such good pace to the right side of midfield and she's got such good vision and the ability to place passes right where they need to be."
DB: "and now the first goal, Navarro again, winning a 50/50 challenge and Taborn using his skill to get around Brotzmann, and his flick to Bozeman opens open a gap in the Siovanijan defense, Bozeman finding Ashcroft who puts it home with his right, 25 minutes gone. Aiden?
AD: "Taborn and Bozeman having so much experience together in Under 21's has paid huge dividends when they are on the field together. And Ashcroft looks like he's not quite ready to be phased out the national team quite yet. He's played exceptionally well here."
DB: "Siovanija with a good spell of attack, Dmitrov finding Leistner and he just misses from 24 yards. Then a few minutes after that, Dmitrov again, this time he runs with the ball and sees Dinev break and feeds a lovely ball, but Herrara is there to throw off the timing. Mindy the defense looking confident?
MC: "these three are the most capped players at the back, and their instinctual coverage of one another is a bit stronger than some of the other combinations we've seen, but to be fair, open play has not been the defensive issue."
DB: "and now into the 39th minute and here's Navarro again, she beats Kleinmann to the byline and he's forced to concede the corner. She's whips the first attempt into the box and a quick thinking Licht clears, again for a corner. On the second try, Navarro slips the ball short to Taborn and he tees her up, her chip is placed right where Haller has raced to from outside the box and his header needed only to be about six inches lower but then--disaster for Licht off the rebound--he's put the ball into the back of the net! Gary?"
GK: "unlucky, for both Haller and the defender, much like the own goal in the under 18's quarterfinal that was scored by the Commonwealth, Licht didn't really know much about it until the last second. he really had no chance to do anything constructive."
DB: "it was 2-0 and Siovanija came back again with some nice passing, Romanov and Dmitrov combing on a nice exchange, and Romanov getting one in on target, handled by Moyer. And there's where we stand with 45 minutes to go. Any other thoughts? Mindy?"
MC: "I think at 2 nil the whole thought process on substitutions has to change. Agahambri certainly isn't needed at this point and unless S and T get back into the match and unless they happen to get the match into extra time, I think Pam is content to keep her on the bench for now."
AD: "right now BP are in a position they can sort of nurse the match for awhile. I'd expect a big push from Siovanija right out of the dressing room, but if they can get to 60 or 65 minutes with this lead, you'll see Pam maybe bring Bozeman off for Monaghan, or Mason and go to five in the midfield."
GK: "I think she'll back the front chasers off for 10 minutes or so, just to keep a good handle on score and not get burned on a counterattack. But I agree with Mindy, as far as subs I think it will all about maintenance unless somehow they lose the lead."

DB: "OK that's all from here, thanks guys and we'll send you back out to the second half from Herzegovina City after these messages."

Semi Final Match Preview
BEEPEE v DALMAT

Form is with the Dalmatians but Beepee are on crest of a wave.  The number 2 and 3 seeds after the knockout stages meet in the Semi Finals, with the Banjia teams out performing the Qasden teams in this competition, Beepee are going into the match as underdogs.

However the semi final tussle has all the makings of a classic battle between two well-matched sides.

The Dalmatians have been consistently strong throughout the tournament with solid victories over the likes of semi finalists Commonwealth of Baker Park and Beepee will need to closely monitor striker Loshtyh Dinor and right midfield Bujo Baleta, who have been standout players in the competition so far.

Meanwhile, Beepee can boast the best defensive record in the competition and have some pedigree up front with powerful Sam Veera upfront having scored 3 goals so far in the competition.

However, the past counts for nothing  when two in-form sides meet at the Royal T.V. Stadium in T.V. City.

The Bulldozers have shown amazing battling qualities to keep winning matches in recent days despite often being outclassed. Beepee boss Michael Forsberg expects a huge test against the Dalmatians, but believes his team's never-say-die attitude could be crucial on the night.

"We face one of the strongest sides in the tournament , who have shown that they are serious challengers and will provide a huge task for us this weekend," said Forsberg.

"We go into the game after an incredible run - unbeaten in 13 matches and luckily we have not had to deal with any players being suspended and having injuries.

"A remarkable achievement which shows the quality, togetherness and standard of our squad along with the mentality to find a way to win against all odds, consistently."

Captain Chris Patterson added: "You always try and take some form of comfort from any game, whether they go to plan or not.

"What I do take from the last time we played was that we were much better than them on the day, and I stuck my chest out after the match and said we are a decent team in this competition and hopefully we'll go on to prove that."

"It would be great to see a lot of very, very hard-working, loyal people to Beepee Football get to a Cup Final. Once you get to a final, anything can happen. However, we're looking no further ahead than the next match, as that game demands our full focus."

Beepee again have no key players out and Forsberg indicated hes continuing with the strongest team philosophy.  Forsberg added there is no fear of the team being tired, "our physical conditioning is excellent"  he said.

Beepeean defender Claude Boles said "We have to win.  It is as simple as that really, we know it will be a highly competitive game – but we’ll just focus on what is required in this game and not looking too far ahead.

"Concentration will be on performance, that hasn’t changed all tournament, and we’ll be treating this game as we have done any other."

Forsberg added: "We will head into the game with full respect for Dalmat,  as I’m sure they will for us, and we’ve had plenty of information on them following our scouting efforts so there won’t be any surprises in that respect, but both clubs are winners, both teams find a way to win games, we’re both in good form, so we’ll head into it full of confidence.

"Both sides will be desperate to win, that’s obvious, but what I think it’ll come down to is knowing how to win when the standard of opposition is so high."

Mark Tolbert: "and we're into the last minute of the second half and the indication is there will be 3 minutes of added time. There's a fast approaching train that people must need to catch, as the exodus from the stands is in full force."
Craig Snyder: "Have to get home in time for the late news..."
MT: "here's Mason with the ball on the right side of midfield and he's playing piggy in the middle with Navarro against the Siovanijan fullback Kleinmann. And from the stand to our right I'm sure you can hear the Commonwealth supporters in full voice. "Glory, Glory"
CS: "we really need to get some new fan songs before the World Cup. No offense, but we just haven't had enough international success to have a good playlist of songs and chants..."
MT: "Craig will be taking suggestions on his Twittle feed for anyone who wants to offer up a few new hyms. And Bozeman and Taborn lazily flick the ball back and forth. Some of the Banijans who have been extra singing supporters for the Bees have stayed behind and they are at least filling in admirably."
CS: "Black guys, help the white guys...."
MT: "Craig will also be discussing quotes from the movie 'Stripes' on his Twittle...and Mr Chaudhary from the Sherpa Empire blows for full time. It's another victory at the Baptism of Fire 67 for the Commonwealth of Baker Park, as they have seen off Siovanija and Teusland 3-1 in the quarterfinal here at Star Field in Herzegovina City in front of raucous crowd of 60,765. Goals from Evan Ashcroft in the 25th minute, an own goal from S&T's Stefan Licht in the 39th minute, Veronica Navarro getting her first of the competition on 57 minutes and Theodor Aberbach coming in off the bench to pull back a consolation goal for the Siovanijans with 9 minutes left were the offensive output on the night. Let's go back to the studio, David."

David Blake: "thanks Mark and Craig, and just as Aiden had a chance to make a comment at half, Gary would like to talk about his new favorite player...
Gary Kostka: "Veronica Navarro had the game of her life tonight really. She was involved in all three goals, if you want to be fair. Kleinmann is the probably the best fullback in their country and she outplayed him at every level. Player of the Match."
Aiden Donnen: "couldn't agree more. And she looked like she could've run another hour if they'd needed her to. A college player--and she's a very very good college player Mindy--who played like a veteran."
Mindy Cartwright: "Aiden wanted to make sure I knew he's learned his lesson. (panelists laugh) She's a two time UAC 1st team All Star, and she only had 7 under-21 caps mainly because she opted out of probably 4 call-up opportunities because she didn't want to miss time from the college season or take a sabbatical from school. I'd bet even right now she still doesn't think she's got a career in soccer ahead of her,"
DB: "while we have just a couple more minutes, let's take a look at the highlight of the goal she scored in the second half, the only BP tally in the second 45 minutes. Aiden thought this was the easiest goal she'd ever score in her life and Gary had to point out that she did almost all of the hard work in the buildup. Here's Enzikomibo with a solid block tackle on Leistner and Herrara finds Taborn breaking out on the counter, and he plays, well really not that great of a pass to Navarro, but she actually wins the ball and spins away from Kramer..."
GK: "unbelievable"
DB: "and then sees Taborn overlapping into her spot on the wing, drops the ball onto his foot while he's on the run and then Taborn plays her into space, where she switches feet--twice--and hits a shot that I'm not sure the keeper even expected."
AD: "he certainly looked stunned that the ball was in the net."
DB: "and that celebration from her teammates. That's just incredible."
AD: "that's a player who has the respect of other players in the side. You can't just work that kind of emotion up in a spur of the moment."
MC: "I think just like we saw with the under-18's, you see so much real camaraderie develop between the male and female players over the course of preparing and being there day in and day out, and tournaments are a bit of a siege mentality anyway."
DB: "let's go back out to the stadium and Craig has the woman of the hour live"
CS: "David, here with Player of the Match, Veronica Navarro. Nic, congratulations on a fantastic game, both for you personally and for the team."
VN: "This is like something I never imagined would ever happen to me. I'm so happy we are able to advance, everyone has worked so hard. I don't even know what else to say."
CS: "tell us about the goal, it was just a brilliant piece of skill."
VN: "oh yeah thanks. Renz and I have worked so much together in training, during triangles and touches. And he is sooo terrible! (laughs) But I just love him, I've had to really focus on where to run and where to expect passes to arrive at. He put me into a bad space, but I knew that the ball would be off to the side so I was able to turn that way as the ball got to my feet. And then of course I made him look like star! (laughs) But that return is the best pass he's made to me since I've known him! Then I just thought in my head 'shoot!' It didn't occur to me to look where I was shooting at."
CS: "Nic, again, congratulations on a fantastic performance and for being the Soccer Night Player of the Match, back to you David."
DB: "Thanks Craig. Wow, another special, historic night for soccer in the Commonwealth. The National Team has made it through to the Semi Finals of the BOF 67. I want to thank Aiden Donnen, Gary Kostka and Mindy Cartwright for joining me in the studio and for all of us on CBC Soccer Night, good night for now."

Makhnovia's Sports Review

WILL WE GET EVEN?

The Free Territory of Makhnovia will be meeting Commonwealth of Baker Park in Semi-Final of the BoF tournament once again after winning in two tense matches. In the first match-up of the knock- out phase against Austenesia Makhnovian's won after a goal of Hektor Yazi in 39th minute. The match against Competitive Solitare was well, a much more competitive one if readers will excuse the pun.

It was Marcon, a young winger of Brazilian origin who gave Makhnovians the lead, deftly scoring from a free-kick in 21st minute of the game. The opponents had pulled level soon afterwards after Di Pietro escaped Makhnovian defense and scored a stunning goal from just inside the penalty area. The game continued in a rather cautious fashion, both sides aware of their defensive vulnerability. Yazi had managed to hit a post in 44th minute after a great through pass by Iokaterov.

After the half time, Makhnovians have started to attack even more. Attacker Vitalyenko had suffered a slight injury in 56th minute after a sharp challenge by Mathis Kassmeyer who got a yellow card for it. He was substituted by young Hassan Yuhemy who was quite insecure in this match and gave away a secure chance in 81st minute by shooting a week ball right in the hands of Solitare goalkeeper.

The victory for Boys in Black didn't come until after the extra time. In 102nd minute, a corner was called after Yuhemy's cross was deflected by Sokolov. Yazi took the corner and Pogodin was quick with a header that left Solitare's goalkeeper on the wrong side of the goal. This Pogodin's goal brought a well earned victory and semi-final for Makhnovians.

In the semi-final Makhnovians will have a chance to get even with Baker park who had won against them in a group stage of the competition. The past game was probably the most tense game Boys in Black had played in this tournament and it remains for us to see if the next game will equal past one in tension.

PROMISE HELD TRUE

Quarterfinals of The 67th Baptism of Fire, a news article in Free Dalmat News, written by C.M.

Last night in Chevlin, Qasden, on Aurora Square turf, Dalmat's football representation played in the quarterfinal of the 67th Baptism of Fire football tournament against Yezur, battling for a place in the semifinals.

The atmosphere in the stadium was loud and wild. Some of Dalmat's most ferocious ultra hooligan group fans have been allowed in. That caused for some fascinating fire shows and fan coreographies. The tension between the fans has been rising and Dalmat ultras have long-awaited they'd be let in. There were no incidents and no object reached the stadium.

The line-up was not much different, the only change is that Kadija came back to the game after a red card suspension and Brikich is back on the bench.

Yezur had the right to the kick-off. The match began in a rapid pace with several chances from both sides until the 24th minute when both teams started playing more carefully.

It's the 38th minute and Dinor came dangerously close to Yezur's goal. He shot the ball with incredible speed. Yezur's goalkeeper didn't get a touch on it, and Dalmat was leading.

Glutić did a marvellous shot in the additional time of the first half, but it was saved. Dalmat's team went to the locker rooms leading 1:0.

Yezur started playing more aggresively in the second half. They were constantly pushing and pushing which paid off for them in the 64th minute. They have tied.

It wasn't long before Dalmat's Velebo Kajor got a yellow card for trampling a Yezur midfielder in their push for a quick victory. From then on the game was clean and steady. First 90 minutes of the game ended up in a draw, so extra time was needed.

Fans were louder than ever and drums were played. Singing and roaring spread like wildfire. In this atmosphere, Baleta had an energy boost and ran towards their half by himself he passed it to Dinor and Dinor passed it to Šumarov who got the ball back to Baleta. Baleta banged the ball on first contact ripping the net and securing semifinals for his team.

After extra time, the final whistle was blown and Dalmat started celebrating. In the interview after the game, Marujin Đevad, the lead coach and tactician of the Dalmat Football Representation (DFR) had this to say about the game and about their next opponent :

" This match was a great opportunity to let our midfield game shine and break out in the whole field. We shoved unity and cunning. We also stayed focused the whole way through. Of course, there are many aspects of the game where we went wrong. For instance, we've failed to capitulise on certain opportunities countless times. We didn't get... "Aggressive" when we needed to. We let Yezur to run too freely and too loosely on our end of the pitch and haven't recognised their weaknesses. They have played a really tough game out there and they definetly deserve credit. Yezur's strategy was brilliant, the only thing that leaned the victory to our side is precision at the edge of the box our midfield is decent in. Of course, this win means a lot to our team and even more to our nation and we won't give up yet. We'll prepare a tough game for Beepee when we meet them tomorrow in the semifinals held in T.V. City. It certainly won't be easy, but this may be our only opportunity to try and take on some risks, we'll mix up the starting line-up changing the defense and the midfield a bit. Beepee are an experinced. Veera is a powerful player we'll have to keep an eye on, aling with the rest of their attack force which is really well balanced. This formation and our new tactics we've prepared for Beepee will give the midfield some more space to expand their reach and their game. Beepee has a strong defense which will hopefully be dealt with with our attacking manouveres. The other semifinal will be Baker Park VS Makhnovia, two fantastic teams we've faced off against in group F and the match will definetly be entertaining to watch. It will be nerve-wracking but that only shows the strength of our opposition. Let the best man win and I hope you'll be there along with us! "

"At the tone, the time will be 1:00 am."
(bin-bing-dong-bong)
"From Belle Haven, this is the National Radio Corporation. And now--News headlines, read by Freida Bledsoe"

FB: "In Hong Kong, The International Monetary Fund is optimistic on the outlook for global growth but warned darker clouds are looming due to fading fiscal stimulus and rising interest rates.

Prime Minister Rebecca Schoenlein made the position of the government clear to the Assembly that it is prepared to demand total withdrawal of Turkish military presence in areas of Kurdish control in Syria and Iraq.

The Belle Haven Stock Exchange closed higher in late and after hours trading on Tuesday on speculation that Baker International's quarterly earnings report to be released on Wednesday ahead of the opening of trading will be well above the estimates predicted by analysts.

And the Commonwealth of Baker Park National Soccer team defeated the Free Territory of Makhnovia 4 to 2 in the semi-final of the Baptism of Fire 67 tournament in Banija, setting the stage for a second consecutive title by an FAC team in a major international competition.

those are the headlines for now. Frieda Bledsoe, National Radio news. Now back to Greg Cassidy for the second hour of A Little Night Music."

Beepee upset the odds to win Semi Final

Beepee 1 - 1 Dalmat
(a.e.t Beepee win 5-4 on penalties)

Christian 51'       Loshtyh Dinor 85'

Beepee progressed to the Baptism of Fire final on penalties after a thrilling match at Royal T.V Stadium.

The Beepeean  squad seemed a little overawed in the early phases on the match with  the enormity of the match obviously playing on the both teams.

Marujin Đevad's decision to change tactics looked like it would backfire as Dalmat's play appeared awkward in early exchanges.

The start to the game appeared to find both teams more content not to concede than to create, however the match came to life in the second half.

Throughout the first half the Dalmat team dominated possession and had worked their way into a more attacking mindset as the match went on. Whereas the Beepeean play was counter attacking and defensive.

Indeed, Beepee had rarely been seen as an attacking force prior to Max Christian's opener six minutes after the break and, even then, they were not the architects of their breakthrough.

Brdžan Šumarov so often the cornerstone of the Dalmats defence, attempted to pass-back to goalkeeper Igor Nikašin from wide on the right.

The centre-back Lujo Kadija did not see Christian stealing in to intercept and the Beepee midfielder calmly slid the ball home.

At that point, the Dalmatians kicked forward even more.  Pushing forward in search of an equaliser.

In the 64th Šumarov himself powerfully headed a Bujo Baleta free-kick to hiwever an acrobatic Francois Shep pushed the ball over the bar to retain Beepees lead.

After 80 minutes, Loshtyh Dinor was well-placed to score a when Sombra Glutić found him six yards out, but he lifted the ball over the bar.

Five minutes later Loshtyh Dinors got just rewards for his attacking playing a lovely 1-2 with Malteese Franks carving open the Beepee defence and placing the ball comfortably past a sprawling Shep.

The pulsating encounter finished 1-1, with  the 85th-minute strike forcing extra time.  Whilst Dalmat pushed forward they were thwarted by a stubborn Beepee side who seemed to be content for the lottery of penalties.

Dalmat 4-4 Selanor Bever Missed
Selanor Bever places the ball on the penalty spot and begins his run up.  Stuttering on the run up to put of the Beepean goalkeeper he leans back and rips through the ball.  Unfortunately, he gets to much under the ball and fires it over the bar.

BEEPEE 4-5 Dirk Bolt scored
Dirk Bolt now knows a successful penalty will see Beepee through to the final.  He places the ball on the spot and begins his run up.  Hitting the ball with his right foot he fires into the ball.  Igor Nikašin dives to the right, but his outstretched hand cant reach the ball as it hits the back of the net.

The 6,500 Beepeean fans who had been holding their breath release in a cheer as Bolt is mobbed by his team mates.

DALMAT VS BEEPEE

" What a run we've had with Beepee. ", exclaims Igor Nikašin, the goalkeeper and captain of the Dalmat Football Representation. " The first game of the tournament we had to finish with penalties. Beepee was a tough match and we both wanted to get a good result. Overall, we are extremely happy and content with our success in the tournament. In our first ever international endeavour we've reached semi-finals after an impressive run in the group stage. Every game leading up to the big one against Beepee in Royal T.V. Stadium was intense and thrilling. We've tested our playstyles and tactics and found our strengths and weaknesses. Practice beats theory, after all. "

" Mr. Baleta, could you tell us how it felt in the semifinals match against Beepee? "

" Certainly. For starters, arriving at T.V. City for the second time was more... Tiring and dangerous than the last time. It may sound like bad wording, but the stakes were much higher this time. Despite that, it was the most beautiful experience of my life. ", he answered and his eyes lit up. " Our loyal fans have always been there for us no matter the physical distance. Representing your nation, your people, is a feeling not many can experience. I was definetly honoured and proud. During the tournament we as a team grew a big respect for Beepee and we knew we mustn't let this excitement and thrill of winning get to us. We were 11 on 11 after all, like always. The first half was boring, even to me. We took too much precausion and were too afraid to go all out on our new game plan so we spent the whole 45 minutes defending. It's a shame we couldn't practice with this new playstyle more. We didn't get the feel of it and were still uncomfortable with it which maybe was one of the contributing factors of the outcome of the early game. "

" Mr. Šumarov, how was the second half? "

" Oh, well, hah.. ", spoke a humorous, dark man. " Beepee took an opportunity after our mistake. I'd put most of the blame to myself since it was my pass that got intercepted. Fantastic perception from the Beepeean midfielder. Then we pushed forward even more in order to find an equaliser to somewhat worked for us. This is where the new tactic shined. After many chances taken, one where I even had a header opportunity, Loshtyh slammed it in around the 85th minute. He and Malteese had a nice 1-2 after which he scored. We have earned to play extra time. We have again gone forward but couldn't penetrate Beepee's brilliant defense. "

" Lastly, Mr. Đevad, what did you think of the outcome? "

" The penalties settled the game. 4-4 after 4 rounds. Pretty intense. The fifth round settled it and Beepee emerged victorious. This has been an exciting game to witness and an amazing learning experience for all of us. Two vastly different squads going up against each other. We'll face Makhnovie once again in the 3rd place match happening tomorrow. Don't give up on us now, we've still got a medal to win! ", jokingly said Đevad, but ready for the tomorrow's match. This is it - how will the 67th Baptism of Fire end? It is time to see...

Match Preview
BAPTISM OF FIRE FINAL
BEEPEE v BAKER PARK

Beepee and the Commonwealth of Baker Park square off at the Stadium of the Restoration in the final of the Baptism of Fire Cup.

It's a big moment for Beepee boss Michael Forsberg in his second successive cup final after overseeing Beepee's victory in the South Totonto Invitational Cup.  Despite this his side are underdogs against a very strong Baker Park side, with the Beepeean bookmakers, after Baker Park have blown nearly everybody they've faced away this tournament.

For Forsberg, the game represents a huge opportunity for Beepee to highlight the strength of South Pacific sports. Together with North Prarie, Beepee has brought a new sense of pride to South Pacific sport.

If Forsberg  is able to mastermind a victory over Baker Park at Busukuma, it will place additional pressure on the Beepee squad for the World Cup Qualifiers.

Beepee came out on top in a close fought semi-final against Dalmat, who were on the same group as Baker Park earlier on the tournament and that win will give Beepee some confidence in the final: however the final teases to be a fantastic spectacle for the neutral.

The match is expected to be a classic example of defence vs attack with competitions the best defence facing the best attacking force.

Beepee has excelled at snuffing out attacks this competition and they will have to try and and control Veronica Navarro who has injected pace into the Baker Park midfield.

Baker Park just has so much more firepower than Beepee that said, anything can happen in a cup final.

Beepee has been incredibly lucky this tournament and go into the match without any injury concerns and Forsberg confirms  his preferred strongest lineup remains the same as the semi-finals.

Thanks to Banija and Qasden for a great tourney! Mahalo!

A Tale of Two BP's?--Baptism of Fire 67 Final Preview

Frank Armitage
The Daily Mail Chief Soccer Writer

Reporting from Busukuma, NCT, Kingdom of Banija:

After all of the shouting, now comes the reward. The Commonwealth National Team is back where their BoF adventure began and this time they'll be forgiven if they might have a bit of an identity crisis.

Their opponent in the final is Beepee, the South Pacific nation who came through the group stage and the knockouts with the stingiest defense in the tournament; by comparison the Black & Gold are the highest scoring team and in a strange turn, allowed the most goals against. But everything isn't always as it seems--only 4 of the 14 scores against have come during the knockout rounds, as the earlier problems in the group stage against set piece situations have seemingly been corrected.

Manager Pam Scott is bullish on her sides' chances, as she has found combinations in the lineup that have provided the full measure of offensive creativity to shine through. She should be embarrassed at the wealth of talent she has to choose from for the Final, but she is probably looking at taking the most pragmatic approach to delivering victory for the FAC and Baker Park.

An interesting side note on the opponents--they too are officially "The Commonwealth of Beepee", popularly called the Bulldozers--which is where the confusion as to who's who might arise. But there should be little in the way of style which will make even the most casual fan not be able to distinguish between the sides.

Beepee enter the match having gone unbeaten in 14 straight matches; prior to the BoF, they were the victors in another competition, the South Totonto Invitational Cup. They have also played through extra time twice in the knockout stage, winning on penalties in both instances; therefore no one should doubt that they are mentally tough and not afraid to stick to their game plan.

The Commonwealth side, who have enjoyed enthusiastic support from segments of the local Banijan fans, will not underestimate their foe. It is certainly not characteristic of National Pride to fail to respect anyone, and the sting of now almost forgotten criticisms of selection and tactics by some in the press earlier in the tournament probably still looms large in the minds of the squad.

Previous commentary in this space argued that the people of the Commonwealth of Baker Park should already view the results earned by this team as an unqualified success. That view has not changed, and win or lose tonight, the men and women who'll be competing should be considered nothing less than champions.

Head, officials to be guests of Banijan royalty

Dwayne Lofton
The Daily Mail Staff

Busukuma, NCT, Kingdom of Banija:

Head of State Michael Gregson arrived here at Busukuma International Airport ahead of tonight's final of the Baptism of Fire tournament aboard Flight Eleven 92* along with other members of the official party representing the country and was greeted by members of the Banija Foreign Minister's Office, offering the welcome and invitation from HM Kabaka Albert III to be his guest for the match.

Along with Gregson and his wife Darlene, FAC Chairman Paul Hewitt, FAC Executive Director David Carlson, and FAC National Men's Team Coach & Director of Technical Development Trevor Richmond also traveled from Belle Haven and Secretary of State for the Commonwealth Hannah Delaney accompanied the group representing Prime Minister Rebecca Schoenlein.

Following the brief reception, the party arrived at the Intercontinental Banija Hotel to meet with Manager Pamela Scott, her coaching staff and the playing squad. The team posed for a group shot with Mr & Mrs Gregson, at the specific request of the Head; following the team meal, they heard from the various members of the party wishing them best of luck and expressing the gratitude and congratulations of the country for representing the Commonwealth on this international stage.

The Prime Minister of Beepee, the opponent in tonight's match, is also reportedly en route to be a guest of the Banijan King and Country, and the Head is expected to pay his courtesy to the Beepee PM prior to kickoff.

Flight Eleven 92 is the designation of the official Government plane that transports the Head of State, the Prime Minister and any other State or official delegations. Used in the same way that Air Force One is the call sign for whatever plane happens to be carrying the Executive, not any particular aircraft. A reference to November 1892, the founding of CBP

I know you having the time of your life! But think twice! That's my only advice! That make you cutoff!

Kabaka Albert III, Banija's monarch, and Prince Franz-Pierre, of Qasden, walked onto the pitch with the leadership of the governments of the two people playing in the final- Micheal Gregson, the Head of State of the Commonwealth of Baker Park, and David Andrews, the Prime Minister of Beepee, are the two guests of honor. The Kabaka has presided over a number of events over the years- the WLC Final, the World Twenty20 Championships, and even the NSCF Final- but none, of course, was quite like this event. 69,000 packed the stadium, and they cheered loudly when the men in charge of the governments of the two nations playing, and the host nation, walked onto the field.

They watched from the sideline as the opening ceremony started. There were Banijan dancers, from the majority Kasanke tribe, royal dancers, and the famed woman who got international headlines when she performed a Banijan dance in Prescott. It was a celebration of all things Banija, and it went on for about 10 minutes, before the dancing stopped. They walked onto the center of the pitch, and as is tradition at occasions like this, the center referee, who was a Banijan took a look at the Kabaka. He bent onto one knee, and kissed the ring of Kabaka Albert III- a tradition sometimes enforced in a public setting, and last enforced on Matchday 2 of World Cup 79 Qualifiers, when the entire Banijan national team kissed his ring in their away qualifier to Bostopia.

The Banijans in the crowd cheered at the gesture, and the Kabaka raised the hand of his counterpart, Prince Franz-Pierre, as the Banijan and Qasden flags were raised at the north and south ends of the stadiums. The Beepee fans at one end then formed a Beepee flag with cards, while the Baker Park fans did the same at their end of the stadium. It was to be the first ever WCC Final held within the Kingdom of Banija, the culmination of hosting a series of events, coming back with a vengeance after failing to get a single vote to host the 66th Baptism of Fire.

The four men, and their entourages, of course, made their way up to the Royal Suite. One of two stadiums in the country where there was an exclusive royal suite, dignitaries from Beepee, Baker Park, and Qasden would all be there, watching the game together and celebrating the spectacle of sport. The teams, of course, waited for Albert III to get up there to start, and it took a while, as Kabaka Albert III is getting up there in years. Once the party was all situated, the signal was given, and the referee placed the ball in the center. The 67th Baptism of Fire Final was about to kick off at the Stadium of the Restoration.

Final
Commonwealth of Baker Park 3–4 Beepee

Congratulations to the winner, Commiserations to the runner-up, and a job well done by everyone involved!

BEEPEE LIFTS THE BAPTISM OF FIRE CUP

Beepee 4 - 3 Baker Park
Bannnan 3', 47',  53'        Thomas 40'
Veera 22'                           Ohler 62'
                                            Ashcroft 75'

After a match which was equal parts exciting, dramatic and nerve-shreddingly tense, Beepee edged out favourites the Commonwealth of Baker Park to win the Baptism of Fire Cup.  The match itself is likely to go down as a classic and will be talked about for many generations to come.

Beepee played glorious counter attacking football and won a seven goal thriller.

Manager Michael Forsberg stuck with his preferred squad, which has set up defensively all tournament and were comfortable and familiar with their roles

Baker Park who have been more free flowing in their attacking form but they were a goal down almost from the get-go, as Rovers started the game at a fraught pace.

Niklaus Malade picked up possession in the middle of the park, and he slipped an excellent pass through to Carlo Bannan, who galloped clear of a static Baker Park defence. Despite the yawning chasm between himself and the goal, the Bannan kept his composure to slot the ball past Kyle Moyer and into the bottom-right corner of the net.

It was an excellent start to the match for the bulldogs, and Bannan certainly looked to be in the mood, winning the ball in the air a few minutes later and finding himself one-on-one with Moyer once again, but the referee had signalled for a foul on the keeper.

While Beepee fans may have felt slightly aggrieved at that decision, the Baker Park fans were equally as disgruntled in the 13th minute, when Evan Ashcroft rolled the ball home after Francois Shep had come and failed to grasp onto the ball. Thankfully from a Beepee perspective however, the referee had spotted an infringement on the keeper.

While Baker Park were looking dangerous, it was Beepee who looked the more capable on the ball, and a cross from Patterson from the left-hand-side was just too high for Bannan, who failed to get a decent connection on his header.

Bannan was even closer a few moments later, picking up a Veera shot which had ricocheted into his path, he cut inside before bringing out a fine one-handed stop from Moyer.

Niklaus Malade was finding willing runners with his passes from midfield, and his splayed pass to the left found Bannan in bags of room, but after doing well to hit the line and send in a square pass to Veera, Herrera prevented a second goal by hacking the ball clear.

The second goal wasn’t long in coming though, with Bannan  the architect this time, in the 22nd minute.

He showed great perseverance to win the ball and retain it in the middle of the park, and his pass was well weighted to Veera, who scurried through on goal and clipped it past Moyer into the opposite corner from the first.

Baker Park were then forced into a substitution, with Veronica Navarro replacing the injured Erica Shaw and whether it was the change, or just an upping of the tempo from by Baker Park, Beepee suddenly started to lose their grip on proceedings.

Thomas almost halved the arrears ten minutes before the interval, swivelling and sending a shot that grazed the outside of the post after a corner-kick, then Claude Boles did well to block a Agahambri attempt from close-range.

Shep was then called into action to thwart a shot from the recently introduced Navarro, but Baker Park got the goal their endeavour warranted in the 40th minute, when Thomas nodded the ball home following a corner.

In a match which Beepee appeared to be in control of, they were arguably relieved to hear the half-time whistle.

Shep was called into action right at the start of the second-period, when he was forced into clawing away a downward Agahambri header, but any thoughts of a Baker Park fight-back appeared to be shelved in the space of two minutes.

Firstly, Bannan was afforded slightly too much space in the penalty area, and he made the most of it, clattering an unstoppable shot past a startled looking Moyer to make it 3-1, and it was four soon after.

Bannan was again the scorer and he appeared to be the calmest man in the stadium, as he sashayed through the penalty area, avoiding umpteen tackles and challenges in the process, before driving the ball into the net.

If both sets of fans thought that was that however, they were very much mistaken.

There seemed little danger when Nathan Ohler collected the ball on the half-way line and made his way to the left, but after languidly travelling around 45-yards and sidestepping two tackles in the process, he lashed a shot past an unsighted Shep from the edge of the area, and suddenly the outcome was far less assured.

The Baker Park side certainly hadn’t given up hope, and it should have been 4-3 with 20 minutes remaining, when a fantastic whipped in cross from the left-hand-side, somehow failed to find anyone to turn it home from a couple of yards out.

The deficit was reduced to one just five minutes later though.

Beepee failed to clear their lines effectively, and after finding himself in possession inside the area and from a tight angle, Ashcroft buried his chance into the far corner. Suddenly, it looked like Beepee could lose a three-goal-lead.

However, whilst Baker Park piled bodies forward and buffeted the backline with long balls into the area, Beepee held on for a vital victory, thanks in no-small-measure, to an extraordinary performance from Bannan.

Beepee generously applauded the Baker Park players after the match before celebrating the victory in front of the 69,000 fans in the stadium.

Steven Hogan: "And welcome to CommSports One, Sport News Overnight, I'm Steven Hogan, alongside Maria King. High drama in the Final of the Baptism of Fire 67, Maria..."
Maria King: "I don't think anyone among the 69,000 at the Stadium of the Restoration would've predicted the outcome as it turned out, Steven. And we'll bring back in Jeff Logan, who called the match. Jeff, the entire tone and progression of the match really revolved around the play of Beepee's Carlo Bannan, the hat trick hero for the winners. An afterthought in the minds of the Commonwealth coaching staff?"
Jeff Logan: "Maria, I don't really know if you can make an argument that a player who hadn't scored during the course of the competition should somehow become the focus of your defensive tactical plan. The reality is Beepee made the Commonwealth pay for every hesitation and every indecisive moment. But let's get that into its' proper perspective--they were extremely well organized, and they hadn't come up against a side quite like Baker Park in this tournament. Most of the competition they played were not anywhere near the pressing, offensive side that the Bees are. But they certainly knew how to find gaps and to break out on the counterattack and punish profligate teams with pace and smart teamwork."
SH: "Jeff, do you think the injury to Erica Shaw created a bit of problem across the midfield as a whole?"
JL: "I don't know. Shaw has been so instrumental in the buildup through the middle... (pause) But I'm thinking now and really the two offensive performances that seemed below par in the group stage were the two she didn't play at all in. It's easy to mistake the play of Ohler and Taborn as being so important as a counterpoint to Shaw's dynamism in the center of the midfield. I'd hate to speculate that somehow the match might have turned out differently if she had played the full match."
MK: "Thanks Jeff, safe travels home."
JL: "Thanks Maria."
