[OOC/SCORES THREAD] II Winter Paralympics

Postby Liventia » Tue Mar 13, 2018 7:12 pm

Image
This is the signup thread for the second Winter World Paralympic Games, NS Sport's equivalent of the real-life Paralympic Games. The Games are open to athletes with a physical disability. This is the third NS World Paralympic Games—there has previously been one winter and one summer edition.

The Paralympic Association of Liventia, as gatekeepers of the World Parlympic Games, will organise the Games once more in the mountain resort of Neverend, Liventia, in the north of the country. It is the second time Neverend will host the Games, having also hosted the first. It also hosted the VII Winter Olympics.

TIMING
The final deadline is 04:00 UTC 19 April 2018 (midnight EDT).

INSTRUCTIONS
Please pay attention and read through the following information very carefully. If there is a problem with your sign-up, it may not be entered and you might need to resubmit your entries.

Copy the event list below. Under each event, write the names of the athletes participating in each event. The number inside the bracket indicates the maximum number of entries a delegation may send to an event.

  • If only the maximum number is shown—e.g., “(4)”—it is an individual event, and you must give the name of each participating individual on a separate line. (You may enter fewer than the maximum number.)
  • If a visual impairment event has a specific size indicated—e.g., “(teams of 1 skier, 1 sighted guide)”—you must give the name of each team member on a single line, separated by slashes.
  • If a team event just says “(1 team)”, use the name of your nation or delegation, rather than the names of any team members.

The individual or team names on each line should be followed by your nation or delegation’s three-letter code and a skill modifier, each separated by a semicolon, as shown in the example entry below. If you don't have any athletes participating in a particular event, please remove it from your sign-up sheet. Do not 'tag' or add a post and say that you are going to edit in your entry later as they will be ignored.

EXAMPLE SIGNUP
PARA ALPINE SKIING
Men’s Downhill – Visually impaired (3 teams of one skier, one guide)
John Doe (Guide Doe);LEN;50
Men’s Downhill – Sitting (3)
James Doe;LEN;20

Michael Doe (Guide Doe)/Jane Doe/Lilly Doe;LEN;50
Open relay (1 team of 2 to 4 and associated guides*)

*In mixed relay, teams must be comprised of athletes of both genders. In open relay, teams can be formed of all-male, all-female, or mixed teams. Two, three, or four athletes may take part, along with any guides for visually impaired skiers. At least two disability categories must be represented in each team.

PARA ICE HOCKEY
Men’s team (1 team)
Liventia;LEN;30

SKILL MODIFIERS
A skill modifier is used to determine how well an athlete or a team performs in an event. It is a whole number from 0 to 100: 0 for the athletes just making the qualification standard (i.e. still decent compared to the 'average' person) and 100 for the world's best. A team entry gets a single skill modifier for the entire team, while an athlete participating in multiple events has a separate modifier for each event. The average of all modifiers in a delegation must be no more than 50. Entries will be outright rejected if either average far exceeds 50.

Please note that you should try to avoid the use of 'min-max' your entries i.e. submitting unrealistic delegations of extremely high and low values with no spread. A min-max avoidance bonus (MMAB) will be applied based on the standard deviation of all the skill values in your delegation. This will potentially reduce the maximum value of your bonus during the competition and may adversely affect how well your delegation does. An exemption will apply to delegations of fewer than 10 entries.

ENTRY LIMITS
Each user may enter up to two delegations, with a maximum of 150 entries per delegation and 220 in total per user. Unified teams of two or more nations are subject to the same rules above. All puppets and unified teams should be declared, and they should have a different trigramme.

EVENT LIST
There are 81 events on the calendar, mirroring the real-life events list, with the exception of para ice hockey which has been split into separate men's and women's tournaments.

All visually impaired events will require a sighted guide for the impaired skier. The guide need not be of the same gender; i.e. a male guide can take part in a women's visually impaired event. When signing up please indicate who is the skier and who is the guide.

Sitting events are for athletes with lower-limb disability, including amputation. In most cases, the athletes use a sit-ski or monoski.

Standing events are for athletes with an upper-limb or locomotive disability who are still able to use the same equipment as able-bodied athletes.

In snowboarding, all events are for standing athletes only. Lower Limb 1 athletes have more severe impairments than Lower Limb 2 athletes.
