Baseball Bust Up!

Following the surprise 2-1 win over Deerfenland on game day 1, anticipation is growing in Beepee for the match against Northwest Kalactin.

The match against Deerfenland was watched by an estimated 71 million television viewers, making it one of the most watched events in Beepeean History.    editors note - the previous record was held by an episode of current affairs programme Questions Without Answers. Estimates suggest a similar number of sports fans will tune in on 10 March, despite most Beepeeans not being optimistic about  their chances.

Bumbling Baseball Beepee Head, Homer Unn, who has been widely mocked by Beepeeans throughout this tournament for his gaffe prone interviews had released a statement through PR specialist Luke Betta.

"Training has been going well for the team over the past couple of days.  The team has been continuing to bond and improve their basic skills."

Mr Unn and Mr Betta has refused requests for interviews or any further statements.

Despite the statement, reports have been circulating of a recent training spat between players. Details have emerged that Phafjord Pack players Sung Jun-Ho and John Maier had to be separated by teammates after an 'incident'.  One witness said that there had been rising tension between the players.  The witness said "This appears to have started back in Beepee.  Now, I don't want to suggest one of the players slept with the other's wife, but I hear she's pregnant and he's had the... you know... snip".

Star player Bruce Labare  "These things are never anything serious", he said "the media is just looking for a story".

Facing an already difficult task in their first international tournament, Unn will be keen to mend any rifts within the team before game day 2.

It's pretty cool that children scored off a great national team such as you, and how a child kept you guys to 2 runs... I feel pretty confident for the next game

WELCOME TO MNN NEWS - A SPECIAL EDITION

Good evening Midandians, I'm your evening anchor, Rekart Depon. This special edition of MNN News will bring you into the heart of North Prarie, and our baseball team the Doggos hard at work training. It is certainly very similar to dogball, but it looks that a little more skills seem to be needed by the Doggos.
Let's jump right in, and welcome to MNN News.

*the signature MNN News opening "swoop" flashes across the screen and the camera switches to a panorama of Stonebridge*

Welcome to North Prarie. A country filled with culture, beauty, and baseballs.

*it switches to a view of a group of kids laughing as they try out baseball*

This nation is filled with much splendor, ranging from the roaring planes at Simbacat Airport, to the peace and tranquility of it's fields, to the bustling metropolis of Stonebridge. This nation is a sight to behold and gets in many tourists as well, admiring this great nation.

*camera switches to a group of tourists being led by a guide, taking pictures and looking at their brochures*

However, this is not our focus this evening.

*camera switches to Dekon, swinging a shot at a ball*

Our focus is baseball. And tonight, we are going to take a look at our Doggos and how they practice.

*the swoop returns and it cuts to commercials*
I used to be very active.
Now I grovel all day about how inactive I am.

The Auphelian News Network

EARL: Hello, and welcome back to It's The Morning Auphelia, Why Aren't You Farming Yet?. I'm your host, Earl. E. Byrd. Earlier in the hour we talked about growing tensions between Auphelia and North Prairie. The government has recently informed us that we won't be talking about that anymore. So welcome to our newest segment, We're Doing Baseball Now, I Guess? with Fir St. Base. After a riveting first game where Auphelia won by over 100 points, our Glorious Nation is set to go up against its second challenger. Fir?

FIR: Yes, Earl, it's an exciting time to be an Auphelian. Current international polls show that 100% of all people everywhere believe that the Auphelian team is undefeatable. The person behind this team's success? An unlikely hero, in the shape of a llama.

[Cue montage of the TSP Llama playing baseball with Fir doing a voice over]

FIR VOICE OVER: That's right. Auphelia's National Baseball team, formed two weeks ago for the upcoming Prairie Classic that our Glorious and Infallible Leader, has won with the assistance of a Llama. But not just any Llama, it's the Famous TSP Llama! Having scored almost 70 of the 100 home runs our team got before the mercy rule came into effect, this Llama has been the linchpin in our team's success. We here at the ANN were lucky enough to get an exclusive interview with the TSP Llama during one of his rare breaks from the diamond.

[Cut to the TSP Llama in a chair, with Fir sitting opposite him]

FIR: So, Llama, tell us, how did you find out about the tournament, and what made you want to join the Auphelian team?

LLAMA [with British translation voice over]: Well, when I first heard that baseball was happening, I was like what? You know? But then Auphelia joined and began looking to find a team and I joined. I love Auphelia and all it stands for.

FIR: I see. In previous interviews with our network you have revealed that you have a wife and two young children at home. How has playing affected the amount of time you spend with them?

LLAMA: Well, Fir, it has been difficult. I love my family very dearly and being away from them has been hard on me. But if there is one good cause I would leave them for, it would be Auphelia, Hail Leader.

FIR: Hail Leader. Now, time to get into the real story. We have heard reports from an anonymous source that Auphelia actually lost the first game of the season. What do you have to say about these allegations?

LLAMA: [To someone off camera] Why is she going off script? What is happening?

FIR: The people demand to know the truth! Is the government covering up -

[Several dozen men in black suits swarm the set, and the footage black out]

[Several gunshots can be heard before the audio goes out]

[A jaunty jingle begins and a "Technical Difficulties" place card appears on the screen]

[The camera zooms out to reveal the set of It's The Morning Auphelia, Why Aren't You Farming Yet? with Earl. E. Byrd and The High Goddess of Agriculture sitting on a couch]

EARL: That disturbing footage was of our dear colleague and friend, the Filthy and Depraved Former Citizen Fir St. Base, going insane on set. Dear and Glorious Leader, what guidance can you offer us in these trying times as more and more Auphelians begin to horribly rebel against our Glorious and Caring Government?

LEADER: Well, Earl, all we can do is give them a choice. Listen to their Trustworthy and Friendly Government or fall in with the Disgusting and Rabid Terrorists that seek to weaken our Glorious Nation. Thanks to me the Government has established Re-Education and Leaving Camps where people can either be taught of all the good the government does for them so they can be re-integrated in society, or they can be sent to our Leaving Camps where they will be given travel papers, 10,000 Auphelian Kronor, and get shot . . . erm . . . with vaccines so they don't fall victim to the Horrible and Deadly Diseases that exist beyond our borders.

EARL: So true, so wise. And despite what Fir said last week, our baseball team is doing quite well! What do you have to say about our chances of beating our next competitors?

LEADER: I would say that we are going to come out #1, like we always do!

[Both share a hearty laugh and Earl's eyes dart nervously to something off screen]

EARL: That's all the time we have today on It's The Morning Auphelia, Why Aren't You Farming Yet?. I'm your host, Earl. E. Byrd.

LEADER: Oh, Earl, I actually have a secret surprise for you!

EARL: Oh . . . um, really? You didn't . . . have to . . . heh.

LEADER: We have recently uncovered that you were the source that spread the lies about the Auphelian performance in the first round of the Prairie Classic. Isn't that funny?

EARL: Erm . . . yes madame . . . but, you see, um . . .

LEADER: We know you are unwell Earl. We care about you. We want you to get better.

[Earl leaps up from the couch and dashes for the studio entrance, knocking people, lighting, and furniture out of his way]

[Dozens of men in black suits and a half dozen doctors with an assortment of hypodermic needles, straight jackets, and masks overtake Earl]

[A doctor with a hypodermic needle plunges it into Earl's neck]

LEADER [Off camera]: This is for your own good Earl. Your government loves you!

[Earl slumps to the ground and is put in a straight jacket, mask, and dolly and wheeled out of the studio]

[The camera pans back to the High Goddess of Agriculture]

LEADER: That's all the time we have left on It's The Morning Auphelia, Why Aren't You Farming Yet?. Have a Glorious Day in your Amazing and Perfect Country.

[Leader takes a sip of tea and the end card and music appears]

[A promo starts]

VOICEOVER: Next time on It's The Morning Auphelia, Why Aren't You Farming Yet?

[A montage of smiling government officials playing with happy and well fed citizens]

How much does your government love you? A recent poll has been conducted on national happiness, and the results may surprise you!

How amazing is your government? An in-depth analysis on how the government is perfect and unquestionably infallible in all ways.

And . . .

[Cut to black and while montage of people with frowns on their faces and concerned government officials crying as they are ignored]

How to spot signs of your family members and neighbours becoming Radical Dissenters. This growing epidemic can be stopped, with your help! The government comes back to offer tips and tricks to being a perfect citizen!

We have an interview with star Centerfielder, Jacob Paul! Bring us in AJ Jonas!

AJ: Thanks Howard! We're here with Jacob Paul. How does it feel to hit a ball 300 ft off the wall?

JP: Well, it felt good. I just missed that home run, but I will get it this time.

AJ: How do you feel about your team's situation right now?

JP: We need to win. Simple

AJ: Last Question: How do you think your team is doing?

JP: I think we are doing pretty well. We just need to mix up our pitches like Isabella did yesterday.

AJ: Back to you Howard.

Allan Hampton dropped his glove on the mound, sank to his knees and began to quietly sob.  Having battled so bravely the final ball came as a relief.

His team mates joined him at the mound, rallying around him in a show of solidarity and support.   After a few moments,  Hampton stood up,  wiped a final tear from his eye and began to applaud the opposition. Slowly one by one the rest of the Beepeean roster joined him.  The battle may have taken is emotional toll but sportsmanship won out.

The Northwest Kalactanians had played so well, thriving under the pressure and demonstrating their class.  Player after NK player producing the highest quality baseball and showing finesse and power with every action. At times the Beepeeans had stood agog as balls flew around them. The Northwest Kalactanians had produced a true masterclass in baseball; Beepee had been shown up as the amateurs they are.

The whole Beepeean squad stood for a full  five minutes applauding in awe of the quality of their opposition.   The small but noisy travelling Beepeean support joined in, giving a thunderous roar of approval to the NK players.

Following the ovation, the Beepeean squad rallied round both Hampton and Jeremy Miller.  Young Relief Pitcher, Miller, gave up the winning runs and had taken the loss to heart.  When replaced by Hampton, Miller had been visibly upset and had pleaded with manager, Homer Unn, to stay on to try and salvage the situation.  Unn however did not back down.  But it had not been all Miller's fault, the bullpen had been exhausted and Miller was but the last of the relief pitchers available, still he shoulder the blame for the team.  The anguish of the loss written across his face.

The Beepeean batters had tried to provide some resistance.  Star player Bruce Labare and surprise rising star Tua Keeti both swinging well and registering hits. But Beepee's defensive play was no match for the free flowing, aggressive and attacking play of the NK team.

Whilst outplayed, out positioned and outclassed the Beepeean roster performed admirably.  There was no shame in this performance.  Particularly, as the result was not unexpected and Beepee were never likely to cause an upset, but the loss to NK effectively ended the slim hopes of Beepee in the tournament.  Unn and his squad will rest and regroup and try to put this defeat behind them heading onto the final match of the group stage against Auphelia.

A report from Beepeean Occasional News Corporation.   BONC Sports Editor: Vonda  Race.

Game day 3 is quickly approaching and Beepee is facing the might of Auphelia.

The Auphelian squad known for its irreverent style of play, more akin to cricket than baseball has become widely praised after a narrow but convincing win over Deerfenland in Game Day 2.

Baseball Beepee head Homer Unn is said to be most cautious of Player #00000017.  "We know that koalas can be affected by chlamydia, so our players may well give #00000017 a wide berth." He said.

A victory for Beepee, who currently sit in second place in Group D, may be enough to see them qualify for a playoff.

Beepee is also hugely cautious of Auphelia, also known as the hammer wielding authority.  This fear may well result in a loss of gumption for the Beepeean squad.  Prime Minister Andrews is believed to be seeking an ambassador for Auphelia and is said to be keen to keep on good terms with Auphelia.

Beepee Beat Auphelia in Prarie Classic
Beepee Braces for Backlash

In an upset third group match at the Prarie Classic Tournament, Baseball Beepee ran home comfortable 3-0 winners over Auphelia.

Beepee played their usual defensive style against Auphelia and took a surprise lead after a single hit from Tua Keeti allowed SS Bruce Labare to run in the third innings.

Scandal broke out when Auphelian player #00000017 was hit by the pitch in the fourth innings.  Player #00000017, who is a Koala, was enraged by the dangerous play and attacked Beepeean SP Dan McManus in a ferocious attack of claws and fur.  McManus had to be removed on a stretcher with blood gushing from his shins.  It was later discovered that McManus had been infected with Koala Chlamydia and has been flown back to Beepee for special treatment.

In the fifth, Bowie Baysocks, hit a home run to extend  Beepee's  lead to 2 and 0.  The TSP Llama (Player #00000018) put up stubborn resistance and was cautioned by the umpires for spitting in the face of RP Keith McConnell.  The Beepeean squad then tormented TSP Llama calling her an alpaca.  Despite this TSP Llama remained Auphelia's strongest player.

In the eighth, Beepee scored a decisive third following errors from Auphelian Players #00000011 and #00000013.  Rumours of a romantic relationship have been circulating from the Auphelian camp between the former prostitute and the buck-tooth man, and when the hit came from Christian Mitchell, neither player could be found in the outfield. They were later discovered in a passionate entanglement under the stands.

Beepee who had no real baseball pedigree have been a surprise package in the tournament winning two of their three matches, and only narrowly losing to the talented North Kalactin team, who are vastly more experienced.  The surprise result sees Beepee qualify second in their group and will next face Queen Yuno in what will likely be an easy match for Yuno.

Special Ambassador Ophelia Hupp, who was appointed by Prime Minister Andrews to ensure no political ramifications from the matchwas, was said to be devastated. Whilst unavailable for comment, an insider said that this was the worst possible outcome for both Beepee and Mrs Hupp.  It is widely reported that Mrs Hupp had instructed Baseball Beepee to throw the match.  However, its understood that bumbling Baseball Head, Homer Unn, didnt understand the metaphor and thought Mrs Hupp was instructing him to pitch more competently.

Rumours abound in Government House that Mrs Hupp will be offered as a sacrifice to Auphelia as a peace offering.  PM Andrews is said to fear the Suppression Shield, and is likely to provide additional comment in the coming days.

Despite its clear failings PM Andrews may well continue the Special Ambassador project and is understood to have lined up local busybody Yuno Hoo for the playoff match.

Prarie Classic Play-Off

Baseball Beepee starlets are due to face the might of Queen Yuno in the playoffs.  We sat down with special ambassador and local busybody, Yuno Hoo, to discuss the match and her hopes for the future.

BONC: Good Morning Mrs Hoo.  The Prarie Classic playoffs are just around corner how do you think Beepee will perform?

YH: Oh. I dont care about that sort if thing!  But did you hear about old Mr Abbott, he was caught with his unmentionables around his ankle falling repeatedly  on top of Mrs Smith, the greengrocers wife....

BONC: *interjecting* well that's very interesting and all but what does it have to do with the baseball game?

YH: Well, nothing, I suppose. But really what does anything have to do with anything anymore... i mean did you see what young Shirley down the road was wearing yesterday and shes been going with that boy with the blue hair.  Young people nowadays; why in my day....

BONC: * Interjecting again*  How about I ask you about Queen Yuno.  Youve been appointed special ambassador...

YH:  *Interrupting*  OH yes i have.   Im very proud.  All the ladies in the Womens Association have been talking about it.  Much like they have about that nice Mr Unn.

BONC: You mean Homer Unn, head of Baseball Beepee?

YH: That's the one dear.  He's a lovely man.  Very considerate.  And i dont believe those terrible rumours about him and that Ophelia Hupp.  So sad what happened to her.

BONC: Yes it was.... wait... what rumours?

YH:  Well you didnt hear it from me but they were doing the lateral lambada. Or so I've heard.

BONC:  Wait are you saying Homer Unn and Ophelia Hupp were romantically involved.

YH:  No no there was no romance dear... it was all just lust dear.  Apparently, thats why he didnt lose in purpose... he wanted out... she was getting too clingy.  Still he is a fine man... and girthy!

BONC: Interesting.  Whats the governments position on the match against Queen Yuno?

YH:  Well, that nice prime minister... i mean i didnt vote for him but he is a nice man, said he wanted us to win this one.  Thats why he said he chose me, I'm 87 years old next April dont you know dear.

BONC: That's nice.

YH:  Yes it nice that people have been coming round. Not many peiple come to this old folks home to see me anymore.   He said there was no way Homie could be attracted to me... but I showed them.  There life in this old broad yet.

BONC: Thanks you so much for your time Mrs Hoo.  Id better be getting back now.

YH:  oh dear stay for some South Pacific Iced Tea.... It's  Midandian.

BONC: *standing to leave* no no must run.... *mutters under breath* another stupid post not about baseball... sheesh!

A report from Beepeean Occasional News Corporation.  BONC Sports Editor: Vonda Race.

BEEPEE HAS A SEMI

Beepeeans were left agog this morning after their unfancied national baseball tram made the semi finals of the Prarie Classic.  The over-achievers beat Queen Yuno 9-3.

ViZion Air Field which has become a home away from home for the Beepeean Squad hosted the match.   A small but enthusiastic group of travelling Beepeean support added to the carnival like atmosphere in the stadium.

Decked in national white, red and black, Beepee's defensiveness proved once again to be its strongest asset.

The experienced Queen Yuno side performed below par in the match, struggling to cope with the fastball of starting pitcher Leslie Wheeler.

Beepee took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first but  it was Casey Thorlibin's 160m  out of the park home run with the bases loaded  in the fourth which gave  a 5-2 lead which Beepee never looked like giving up.

A two run double in the eigth sealed the 9-3 victory.

Catcher Roger Mulla was interviewed after the win and said  "Ah... well, you know, you go out there and you give a 110%, and you wanna play good, and, you know, you hope you play good... I think we played pretty good tonight!"

A delighted Homer Unn was overjoyed saying " We won... there's no way i can be sacrificed by the government after performing so well".

He may be right as an online poll saying 98% of voters were pleased with how well the tournament was going.

The Beepeean squad now faces its most challenging match against hosts and South Pacific Superstars North Prarie.  The North Prarian side has been exceptional this tournament and will be favourites to progress. Regardless of the outcome, Beepeeans will be celebrating as the government has provided a national holiday so evryone can watch the game.

Info for tourists and fans at the Prarie Classic semifinals

Prariean Airlines Field, Durham || North Prarie vs Beepee

Public Transport
Prariean Airlines Field is served by multiple DAT (Durham Area Transit) services. Near Gate B, there is an revealed underground transport hub, with the Red and White train lines serving the station, officially called Prariean Field Station. One of the Red Line's start/end points is Durham City Station, which serves multiple NPRN lines and DAT lines. It does not, however, serve the NPRN Goldcountry Line (The main line for the NPRN), running from Cobblestone Lake City to Stonebridge, or the Capital Line running from Durham to Stonebridge, as those run out of Durham Huntington Station. But City does serve the Loon Line, the Northriver Line, and the Plains line, running to Loon City, Dover, and Abbey respectively. The White line, on the other hand, serves the northwestern suburbs of Durham and terminates in the suburb of Kay. The stations' other services are: The B and G metro lines, and the 197, 21, and 76 bus lines.
Hotels
Many hotels are in walking distance of the stadium. You can find the Durham Downtown location of Phoenix Suites and Hotels, the Durham 3rd Street location of luxury hotel chain Polaris, and the Durham Baseball location of 3.5 star hotel Dayton. (Much like Hampton Inn.)
Nearby Attractions
Prariean Airlines Field is within walking distance of many attractions such as the Durham Children's Museum, Familysave Arena, the Durham Convention Center, and Valliesta Park. Many other attractions can be reached by public transport and bus as well.

NPRN Field, Cobblestone Lake City || Midand vs. Northwest Kalactin

Hotels
Phoenix Luxury Hotels CLC Sportsplex and Plat Hotels CLC Stadium are all located within a block of the stadiu. Many other hotels can be found within walking distance as well, some even being resorts at Cobblestone Lake.
Nearby Attractions
NPRN Field is on the north end of the CLC Sportsplex, a downtown sports stadium cluster in CLC. Therefore, it is very close to hockey and superball arena RiverCredit Center, basketball stadium Link Arena, soccer stadium Phoenix Hotels Park, and field sport stadium Bank of the Lakes Stadidum. The lakeside, as before mentioned, is 3 blocks away and is home to resorts, nightlife, parks, and overall fun.

EXCITEMENT GROWS
BEEPEE VS NORTH PRARIE

Whilst Sports fans around Beepee are looking forward to the forthcoming semi final of the Prarie Classic, many commentators are wondering if this could be the start of a glorious rivalry.

North Prarie are one of the powerhouses of South Pacific sports and the upstarts from Beepee baseball are unlikely to challenge at this point.   However,  with both this the upcoming South Toronto Invitational Cup in soccer where Beepee and North Prarie have been drawn in the same group.  Commentators,  such as Colin Schpoert, are wondering if this rivalry could grow and push Beepeean sports to bigger and better things.

Schpoert, in his weekly radio show, lead discussion about North Prarie.

"Beepee play North Prarie in the Semi Finals.  NP have home field advantage and they're going to be too strong.  Beepee have had a good run and cant be disappointed if they lose.  But we've got to put up a good fight.  Making them play, putting as much pressure on them as we can.

If we can, if we can do that, if we can put pressure on them, they'll know we are no pushovers and will respect is in other sports.  We should attack them like a Lasiorhinus latifrons attacks tussocky."

Sports fan, Kikki Dabol, rang into the show and urged Homer Unn's team to continue its defensive style.  "It's worked for us so far! We've beaten stronger opposition because of it. North Prarie are tough but we can do it!"

Mrs Dabol was,  once again, widely mocked for her comments on the show.  Despite this, an online survey showed only 36% of respondents throught the Beepean baseball squad should change their tactics for the semi final.

PLUCKY BEEPEE FINALLY LOSES

Beeper lost in the semi finals of the Prarie Classic today, going down 4-1 to hosts North Prarie in a one sided match at Prariean Airlines Field.

Beepee has played well all tournament and the loss didnt come as a surprise.  North Prarie consistently outplayed our boys.

North Prarie now move onto Northwest Kalactin in the final.

Beepee move onto a third place playoff against Midand.

Its been no hidden surprise that Prime Minister Andrews had been keen to bolster relations with the Midandian government.  Indeed, going so far as to sign a recent contract for Midandian SPIT.

Baseball Beepee Bozo Homer Unn hastily arranged a press meeting with PR Guru, Luke Betta.  Mr Unn said

"We're going to stick it to those Midandians.  We sense that they don't have a high opinion of us.  So our aim is to prove them wrong and get bronze in this tournament".

In taking final questions from the reporters, Mr Unn confirmed he would be putting out his best side.

Unn also confirmed that Dan McManus is responding well to his latest treatment for koala chlamydia and is now expected to make a full recovery in the fullness of time.

Jordy Bosch stepped into the batter's box. 2 outs. Runners on 1st and 2nd. North Prarie down 2-1 to Northwest Kalactin.

The time is now, Jordy, the time is now.

It was the bottom of the 8th inning. Setup guy Clay Kelley was in for NK. Their starter, Joe Kenton, had been lights out, the only prior North Prariean run coming from a Nick Munksgaard solo shot in the 4th. North Prarie had been fighting an uphill battle for the whole game.

Jordy glanced at Kelley. He looked calm, but he could tell that he was grinning inside. Just one more out, and a North Prariean win would be nearly impossible. Their closer would just have to come in the 9th and get three outs.

Kelley started his setup. He looked towards Jordy, then to Bob Dufault on 2nd. He kicked his leg up, and hurled it.

The ball came in on the top-right part of the plate.

Jordy turned his body, and.....

He heard the crack of the bat.

Aaaaaand..............he gets it! It's going......it falls in the right-center gap! DuFault around third....

Jordy took off. He looked to right-center. The Kalactanian center fielder was hunting the ball down. Bob was wheeling around 3rd.

And DuFault scores! Tie game! Harnabo closing in on it....

Jordy glanced ahead of him. Now, Andrew Esler was speeding around 3rd base. The third base coach, Joel Schmitz, was waving his arms to go home.

Esler now going home! Can he beat it? Harnabo gets the ball...

To the cutoff man! Esler 2/3 home now!

He throws it in and.............Esler beats it!! 3-2 North Prarie! What a double by the little leadoff man!

Jordy pulled into second and threw his arms in the air. Andrew was punding his chest, being mobbed by Prarieans streaming out of the dugout. The crowd was going nuts. The NP Baseball celebration siren and song was going off, and fans were clapping to the beat.
Louis Cook would strike out the last Kalactanian batter in the 9th. North Prarie had won their tournament.
