Hey, I was brainstorming RP ideas and I have a question: Is there a minimum age for drivers to compete in NSSCRA?

New Northwesteros wrote:Sherpa: I wrote something up for Xu, is the English OK?

He knows as much English as your people teach him, so it's up to you how much time they're spending on it and how fast his English improves. He maybe picked up a couple words while traveling in season 6, but only got serious about learning it after you signed him.

EDIT: Just saw your RP in the WBC thread Hampton. Li advertising Starlight Suites would be great RP fodder.

Fine then, I was planning on making him speak better as the season goes on. You can even make him speak English to Qiang and company.

As for the age, I don't think so, but I've never seen anyone use a driver younger than 18. Thea started at 18. What's your plan?

Also isn't Li rather attached to her number 88? What will be her reaction to using something else, due to it being taken by Tropicorp?

I was considering a subplot that includes the Guilin Racing Club training a teenage girl to drive. It's still in the early brainstorming stages and I don't want to spoil all the hows and whys, but if I go through with it and there is no minimum age, she would be 15.

Also isn't Li rather attached to her number 88? What will be her reaction to using something else, due to it being taken by Tropicorp?

She'd be annoyed, but she'd still take the opportunity to race.

Also, pardon the obnoxious red name tag; I was too lazy to switch nations.

Here's a question that I think is very important: What if an unchartered driver wins? Will s/he make the Chase?

Not at all. It should be considered a large superspeedway like Daytona. One with other sporting venues in the infield.

Rookie question: So err... is it okay if I post twice? One for the Intro + Exhibition Race Qualifying, and another post for the Exhibition Race (with Jolyn and Clarissa) itself?

I want to amend to this by saying that if you have time between Qualifying and the race to RP, then go ahead and do a standalone Qualifying RP.

Ahh, okay! I could do 3 right about now? Intro, Qualifying, then the Race RP.

I'm done with the first two, and thinking about the actual race.

EDIT: And posted! Do let me know if there is anything in the 2 posts that are of concern. (Despite what the picture might show, Jolyn doesn't carry her two pistols anywhere. None of the Valentians are armed).

EDIT 2: How do the Segments work?

They happen one after the other. They do not stop the race between segments. The breaks between segments have no IC meaning; they are only part of the OOC scorination process. Each segment represents several laps.

For example, if your driver does well in segment 1, but then worse in the other segments, it means they started strong, but then fell back. If you have one segment that is way slower than the others, that might be when they had to pit or something went wrong.

So, does it mean actual standings at each fifth of the race then? That's good to know for future RP purposes.

I think they are nominally average lap times for that segment of the race, but some people RP them more like standings at the end of the segment.

They tend to get RP'd in different ways, so I don't think there is one right or wrong answer. I find that the more commonly RP'd approach is to say that a driver who qualified well then did well in segment 1 is going to be leading or near the front early. One that didn't qualify well then did well in segment 1 was likely advancing through the field.

If they struggled in segment 2, then it should be considered dropping to the field. For example let's say Bryan Harrison qualified 32nd, but was 3rd fasted in segment 1. I would personally RP him as passing a bunch of cars, and probably advancing to about 10th. If Stacie Houston qualified well, and was 6th fastest in segment 1, she, in my opinion, is still ahead of Bryan Harrison at that point. If Harrison then was 29th in segment 2, then he likely dropped way back again. Therefore, this information could be used to say that Harrison used pit strategy in segment 1, that didn't pan out.

You don't have to look at the information that deeply, though. There is no right or wrong answer and I see different approaches.

On another note, something that hasn't come up but just in case a newer nation is wondering, segments should not be considered "stages" in the sense that real NASCAR uses them.

In RP terms I'm planning on having Ben Carpenter take over Joseph Rawlings' charter after the Tundra Falls 500 (and keeping it for the rest of the season) due to sponsorship reasons. That's legal, right?

That doesn't sound like a problem to me, since it is just shuffling around charters from the same nation.

If only there was an IC reason for Kai Qiang to know this...

EDIT: On second thought, I'll find a way to bring it into a later RP.

Third post from me is up! The one about the Exhibition Race itself.

So basically, still following the scorinator, I would say that Jolyn made it to 15th, but she fainted and fell back to several places behind. From the charts I have posted, "Segment 6" is the Final Results.

I played each segment according to the positions they got from the scorinator, only deviating for a few laps only to have them fall back or gain ahead. I hope I played around the segments appropriately, even if there is no right or wrong approach. For example, if there are 240 laps, I take the 6 segments (5 seg + 1 final results) as 40 laps each, and the scorinator timing to be the result they got from the last lap of that segment (e.g. 40th, 80th, 120th, 160th, 200th, 240th/Final).

Also yay for me being the 1000th post.
