Valanora Times
Rockets Have Lift Off

Four seasons, for four seasons have Raynor University have had to labor and watch as their football team has been a sidenote in the NSCF, as both Mar Sara Tech and other schools have come and taken on prominence. Four long years that the Rockets have had to endure the sneers of the Raiders, all the while having to continue to convince young players that they were on the rise and could turn the corner at any moment. Recruiting is the lifeblood of any collegiate sporting program and lack of success begins to take its toll on those pitches, as recruits continue to see the school not produce the results on the field that at least gives them hope that they might be the missing ingredient to the team or to be part of a winning program. The situation was starting to look quite grim for Raynor and its alumni, with the idea that the school was going to sink into a spiral where they didn't have results because they didn't have good enough recruits but they couldn't get the recruits they needed to get the results that would in turn bring the high caliber recruits back to Raynor City.

This season didn't start off quite the way one would have liked if you were a fan of the Rockets, as the team struggled to win their opening game, and then traveled to Mar Sara and were in turn dumped unceremoniously by the Raiders as they looked to once more show RU that it was Tech that was the premier university in Valanora. How the tide has changed since that fateful game in Mar Sara, as the Rockets have gone on a five game winning streak to bring themselves to the top of the Big Eight Conference and have nearly guaranteed themselves postseason play. With mightily impressive wins at home against Richardson and then on the road against Cold Hill to finish off the first half of the conference play, the Rockets showed a glimpse of hope that their fans had been waiting for four years. That hope has erupted into an outpouring of great joy, especially after the Rockets stomped out the sliver of hope that the Raiders still had on chasing the conference title with the Raiders looking completely overmatched by this methodical Rockets team that is blending a flexible defense with a steady, up beat offense that has the entire conference off beat.

The Rockets have to thank the play of Birk Lundström, as the sophmore shook off early season jitters to have developed into a very reliable signal caller at the back. Considering that Birk was not even projected to start for the Rockets after the spring game, that he now has the team two wins away from clinching the conference title is a testament to how much the quarterback has matured and grown through the season. By limiting turnovers and taking what defenses are giving him, even if it just a short five yard slant, Lundström has made the Rockets offense difficult to handle, as when defenses begin to try and press the receivers, a draw or deep post hits them for big yards. While the young quarterback likely will not be leading any major statistical categories at the end of the season, one can not quantify just how well he has played and improved, that has enabled the Rockets to be where they are now, with only one game against one of the bottom dwellers of the conference before the difficult end of season two part rodeo that is Richardson and Cold Hill, with the Ranorian schools looking to try and get an edge on the Vanorian, and Richardson possibly looking to pip the conference title from the Rockets at the last hurdle.

In that regard, the Raiders might be able to do their fellow Vanorian school a favor, as they get Richardson and Cold Hill in their next two matches, and due to their slide that has seen them lose three of their last five, they will need to win at least two of their last three matches to be a serious contender for a bowl or even an outside chance at making the playoff. What was supposed to have been a massively improved defensive unit from last season has looked anything but and the offense simply has not been able to find their way when playing away from Mar Sara. Luckily, the Raiders do have a few home games left and with their backs against the wall, you can expect that they will be playing like a team possessed. Richardson might be the best defensive team in the conference, but the Raiders have seen enough tape to know how to attack their weaknesses and get the sort of match ups that will be favorable. Will it be enough? It is hard to say, Richardson has won the conference title for multiple seasons for a reason, but just ask Raynor University, there is a weird aura about having to play Mar Sara at night, especially when the Raiders are planning on playing in their all blacks. It might just be superstition but at this point, the Raiders will take that if it means getting the wins they need to stay relevant at the end of the year.

NSCF 18 RECAP: ZEPHYR CONFERENCE DAYS FIVE, SIX AND SEVEN

University of Auster 0 0 7 0 7
Thereisnogodistan Community College 7 3 0 7 17

Oops, I did it again. I missed a whole lot of gabbing on a whole lot of college football games. But can you blame me? I have to keep an eye on Cousin Aisling as she works on covering the Handball World Cup right here in our Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft (yes, that's right, Abanhfleft is now hosting an international sports tournament). But back on topic. I've been having connection issues for the past few days so this is only the first time that I've been able to get back onto the Interwebs on a sort-of-regular basis. But good thing I kept note of all the shit that went down in the NSCF so I can gab them all back to you, my dear readers. So let's just get on with it.

So, up first is the University of Auster. It turned out to be a routine win in the end but at the start, nobody felt like the win was absolutely guaranteed. Still, it could have been worse. The Auster QB Nile Bundison was known to be a good pocket passer but the Atheists didn't do enough to collapse the pocket around him, so it was only by sheer force of luck that his passes sometimes went wide of the mark or that TCC's zone coverage was actually working. Not that TCC could also claim to be good in the pocket. Antonio Christofferson had to carry the ball by himself to the end zone for the first touchdown of the game after three repeated pass attempts resulted in incompletions. TCC then increased their lead to 10 in the second with a 40-yard field goal from Praxedes Ipanema. That boy sure has some shooting boots on his feet.

Auster then made a game out of it in the third quarter after scoring a touchdown of their own. Nile Bundison, always so good in the pocket, was once again afforded all the time in the world by the TCC defense, not even trying to make an attempt to collapse the pocket, which allowed Bundison to pick out Jaykae Sadler amid a bunch of white-and-yellow shirts. Sadler leaped out of the pack like a salmon jumping for its spawning space (or a Slam Dunk Contest player aiming for glory for the basketball fans out there) and he landed the touchdown, just keeping his toes inside the end zone to make sure. The home crowd went wild, I'll tell you that. This was their team's chance to come back and deal a mighty blow to one of the better teams in the conference.

But it wasn't to be. TCC collected themselves in the fourth quarter and Anto Christofferson threw a touchdown pass to Vince Almaguer. It wasn't even a fancy pass or a fancy route, just a simple post move from Almaguer that saw him clean through to the end zone without too much resistance from the Auster defense. But TCC fans won't care, because they got the win!

Caltonic Tech 0 0 0 0 0
Ceneisis Naval Academy 0 7 0 0 7

Moving on to Ceneisis Naval Academy, where they eked out a slim 7-0 victory over Caltonic Tech of Fungsland and made a boring game out of one of the most exciting offenses in the conference. Still, if there's one thing that we can take out of this, it's that Justine Henderson is unstoppable. No defense in the conference has managed to keep her quiet for more than one quarter of football, and for any of them, that's just not good enough. Once Justine learns how the defense tries to deal with her, she adapts and throws a spanner in the works of their defensive plans, and it was one of Justine's classic turnaround fadeaway moves that got her over the end zone and away from the Caltonic free safety. And it happened on 1st and 20 too right on the midway line after a holding offense by Eddie Randolph on the Caltonic middle linebacker. And that's it for the Caltonic-Ceneisis Naval game. No, I'm not kidding, and no, I'm not trying to save time by cutting match recaps up to bite-sized pieces. That is literally the only noteworthy thing to happen in the Caltonic-Ceneisis Naval game.

Bowerstone University 3 0 7 7 17
Ceneisis Naval Academy 7 7 10 3 27

And now that I have made my case, here's a Ceneisis Naval game that's certainly got a lot more action than the last game they played. Bowerstone University, now there's a school I haven't heard of for some time. Oh, yeah, now I remember where I last saw them: getting shut out 34-0 by the Midshipmen on the very first game of the day. No shutout of Bowerstone from Ceneisis Naval today, however, as Bowerstone won the toss, elected to receive, and got as far as the 34-yard line for an easy-peasy field goal. Ceneisis Naval did respond immediately with a 20-yard touchdown reception from Waylon Dalton to... who else but Justine Henderson? I already told you this before, but this girl just cannot be shut down. It's like she's the Energizer Bunny, keeps going and going and going until she finally finds the end zone, which she did.

The Midshipmen began pulling away from Bowerstone once again in the second quarter when on a 3rd and goal situation on the 2-yard line, Waylon Dalton handed off the ball to Hadassah Hartman and the tailback from Suwkpel barreled through the Bowerstone defense for the second Ceneisis touchdown of the game. And then who else but Justine Henderson (again! I know!) would land the third Ceneisis touchdown to open the second half? Bowerstone did get a touchdown of their own through Vidar Dupond and Clement Rider operating on the same wavelength and connecting on a 3rd and 7 situation on the Ceneisis 42-yard line. Ataullah Nagi then scored a 37-yard field goal just to keep Bowerstone at arm's length.

Dupond then found his tight end James Priestly for a 5-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter to keep Bowerstone in the game, but another 40-yard field goal from Ataullah Nagi ensured that Bowerstone would need two possessions to even have a chance to tie the game, but this time the Ceneisis defense wound down the clock magnificently and broke Bowerstone hearts right on their home turf.

Caltonic Tech 0 0 0 0 0
Thereisnogodistan Community College 0 0 7 7 14

But seriously now, what is it about Caltonic Tech that makes our schools not work their magic on them? Maybe it's because they have one of the better defenses in the conference, but you didn't see me write that. But here's what you should know: Antonio Christofferson finally got his throwing arm going in the second half, and he found Vince Almaguer in space once again for a 21-yard TD reception in the third quarter before doing much the same thing, except on 3rd and goal on the Caltonic 3, in the fourth quarter. Anto got sacked twice in the second quarter but once again, aside from that, nothing noteworthy happened in the Caltonic-TCC game as well. So why don't we just move on?

Thereisnogodistan Community College 0 0 0 0 0
Ceneisis Naval Academy 10 7 6 7 30

Ah, but you cannot say the same thing for the second TCC-Ceneisis Naval game, can you? This game was all excitement and no boredom. Even though TCC got demolished, you could never count them out whenever they had possession of the ball. It was just a combination of slippery hands and some choice sacks on Anto Christofferson that resulted in the Atheists getting shut out.

We might as well just call it the Justine Henderson Show. She was singlehandedly responsible for all three touchdowns in this game, two of them by catching and one of them by throwing. Wait, what? You may be asking. Yes, it's true. By the end of the game, Ceneisis Naval were showboating. It was a trick play; Waylon Dalton drifted over to the side of the shotgun so the direct snap went right to Justine, and she threw it to Waylon for the third and final Ceneisis touchdown in the fourth quarter. Now where have we seen that trick play before?

But going back to the first quarter. Waylon threw a 23-yard pass to Justine for the first touchdown of the game. Ataullah Nagi scored a field goal from 20 yards to end the first quarter 10-0. Paschal Romilly then got a pick-six on the Atheists' 20 after he caught a pass from Anto Christofferson meant for Vince Almaguer. Two field goals was all that Ceneisis Naval could muster in the third quarter, a 36-yarder and then a 41-yarder that actually looked like it was going to miss before the ball curved back in between the posts, much to the relief of Ataullah Nagi. And then came the Waylon Dalton trick play. It just doesn't get any more showboatier than that. Is showboatier even a real word? Well, it is now.

And that's all for me today. Next time, I will finally get my gabs up and not let myself get distracted by things like the Handball World Cup and the Campionato Esportiva. Catherine Hetherington, Catherine Hetherington, Catherine Hetherington....

Quebec City : The City of Romance, Lights....and Hip-Hop?

Marshawn Cortese-Gleason

Rapper VGZ sits in his teahouse right outside of Universite St. Croix campus in St. Croix, Capitale-Nationale. The 21-year old St. Croix student says the city's longstanding culture, ethnic diversity and the abundance of arts venues is one of the reasons the Quebecois capital of 4.5 million people has become the up-and-coming centre for the Quebecois rap music (right behind Montreal and Winnipeg, who represent the West Coast and Heartland Raps).

When it comes down to it, language is the heart of rap. That's why the rappers from Quebec City, where the most talented of the youths often end up for education, jobs or whatever else the reason may be to attract people to City of Lights (sorry Montreal, you got yourself beaten on that), insist their city is the heart of Quebecois rap. With Royal Kingdom of Quebec being a trilingual nation, on top of indigenous and other ethnic minority languages, the variations can be wild, different and unpredictable enough that those not familiar can get caught. Its twang, for example, works particularly well with rappers from rest of Quebec City in a song like "Reminders" by rapper VGX.

The song, conjuring a personal disaster and each person's perspective on what to do about it, as well as the sideeffects of depression, conjuring the dialects from all Quebecois rappers. VGX, whose RL name is Alexandre Duplessis-Lanza, said that the matchup with other styles work well for those of his kind because of those reasons.

"Our rappers are very fluid to the dialectic differences," VGX says. "This largely comes down to where we are often from. I know at least four male and two female rappers on campus and they all come from different places. A couple of Manitobans, one from Nunavut (so that's rare), a couple of Acadians and a Frontenacois to my knowledge. So what we do is that we exchange our knowledge of dialects and adapt some of it to our flow, or use this when it comes to countering their verses. That's why diss tracks are actually unique when we talk about us Q.C. rappers."

That's not the only advantage, however, as we head to the very next scene where we get to experience some of the behind-the-scene stuff. In speaking with another Quebec City rapper, 45-year old DoucheBaby on an underground studio right next to the Catherine III International Airport, we have a 550x300m studio, and in the other a smoking chamber and a brewery storing a year's worth of wine and whiskey to drink and sell. A musician friend paid roughly 500 pounds to rent the space, a huge bargain given the housing price in Quebec City and surrounding National Capital Region. The lifestyle the Capitolians take, DoucheBaby (Real life name : Frank Duncan) said, gave birth to the vibrant rap scene in recent years when it arrived to Q.C.

"Part of it is that the life in Quebec City, unlike most other major cities in Quebec, is much slower paced and relaxed. It's partly because Q.C. is the capital so lots of nobility and artisans would be here, so you are expected to drive slower, take a deep breath and embrace the air around yourself. Thus, people have more time to practice their arts."

For the rest, you have to subscribe to the magazine.

*VGZ laughs*
Gonna make that ass clap! (You know it stripper boy)
We burn this shit down
One, two, *sounds of an AK-47*

Verse 1 : VGZ

Play the time I once lived, oh
Fuck the Voroz (shortened version of vozrozhdenie, which means renaissance in Russian) I feel better @ slaught
Basement common and free in the ranch like my herd,
All I burned were damn olive branch that's all they heard,
For those who cried walking to register,
time to check their boxes like a magister,

Reminders and Reminders and Reminders
No less than all that I needed with middle-fingered blessings
All those tosses and mosses and losses
Shattered glasses, stained with bloodied bosses like Forkes and Muggleton, yeah
I do them first, burn their houses and salt their land like dead sea
Pitch 9 balls, KKK, then bullpen done, drink unfulfilled tea
Man, this wasn't a choice, no more green shirt volunteering
Since eight am, I set to burn the Undies for bystanding
Slashing hundreds in minutes, you heard it
You freak out in seconds, all I hear is ribbit and yeah,
Man, this wasn't luck, it was destined from that night nigga,

You touched the Braz, I burn your house
Scorches and burns left in your milliards chalet
All gone and burned like your fillet,
Heard that the fools from west called that a Mignon
But they just half-cooked, jizzed and dried up like a Chagnon (Philippe Chagnon is a Quebecois Quarterback well known for his tendencies to throw early passes, creating the nickname 'Half-Cooked')
You call yourself a feline, but all I see them creatines~

Chorus

Reminders, dashed hopes and ropes
Blinders, missing by inches
Reminders, days of lost past and dreams
Fuck, throwbacks again

Verse 2 : De Semaine

Baby you know you called wrong number tonight,
But you may as well stay for the night,
Angel once fallen from bookdoochilseong (Big Dipper in Korean)
Still down to spoon you like my heavens above
I'm not the type to call for second tinder
But the way you ask for seconds terrible manner
On the table there no second chances
Like clubs with kicks by bouncers

Baby, get that rolex
Let you golden shower like Daenery's ex
Nirvana so good, like that pussy on that dream
Drowning in that medical, steamy sticky stream
Probably getting you Drippers (nickname for Gonorrhoea)
But pussy so good, dipping without riders (a famous Trojana condom brand named 'Riders from the storm')
Took her to the chapel, ripped her like a lapel
I'm tryina forget the reminders
I'm makin' me new reminders
Like 21st century Gilligan and Mary, gang gang

Chorus

Verse 3 : Agon

Morning after after that Undies tragedy
She told me 'I've tried being nice and friendly',
But I'm not interested' the fuck like boo-boo
Girl, you know you broke it and I'm ain't going Naboo
Though you fine, like Padme Amidala,
Moving your form like my pet Anaconda
I gave you my heart like Blue diamond
Betting on your eyes like 24-carat almond
Now I'm standing outside Gangwon Land
Drunk, bruised Peter fan in his neverland

Guess you just had to play cruel trickster
Like that Front 574 Constrictor
Look at me, as you watch me burn
Houses on fire in my turn
'Tis a fact the roses are red
Girls from venus, shortened 3-foot-cock help with life
As you heard me go 'Ringa, ringa, ring'
Ringa, ringa, ring' (Ey ho!)
Ringa, ringa, ring
Ringa, ringa, ring! (Ey ho!)

Chorus X2

BUSUKUMA- The relationship between Banija's two biggest, richest, and oldest schools, Loyola-Istria & Northern Moravica, and the rest of the Banijan Collegiate Sports Group, has always been frayed. Jealousy over money, fear that the NSCF money would allow the two Moravican schools to dominate the entire Banijan sporting landscape, even more dominantly than they already do, and fear that their advertising abroad would allow them to establish what no other Banijan school can seriously attempt to establish- a permanent foreign student population. And yet, with Northern Moravica and Loyola-Istria giving 50% of NSCF-related media revenues to the rest of the BCSG to split, you'd think the relationship would be able to be maintained. But an unfortunate series of events in the last week has caused the BCSG to splinter, with Athletic Directors, Board Regents, and even politicians going after each other, in public.

It all started, of course, when the NSCF closed their bid process to host a bowl game. Northern Moravica & Loyola-Istria, of course, as part of their deal to re-enter the NSCF in time for season 17, decided to work with the NSCF to establish a bowl game, to happen in Busukuma, the nation's capitol, on an annual basis. Alongside the payments that each school makes to the BCSG every year at the end of the season, the schools also guaranteed the BCSG that they would get an annual bowl game, where all bowl receipts would be split evenly between the 63 member schools of the Banijan Collegiate Sports Group not named Northern Moravica or Loyola-Istria. It was a fair deal, it seemed.

But then, everything started to come apart from under the seams. The NSCF closed applications for bowl games, as they have already got 7 requests, all accepted, to host bowl games. With 16 playoff teams and then 14 bowl teams, it would be really tough to find more bowl-eligible teams, as that would mean, right there, 30 teams that have an OSPI of at least 0.450 to enter the postseason. Since that is well over half the teams in the NSCF, they made a decision that was best for the organization as a whole. But that announcement caused chaos within Banija.

Immediately, a meeting was summoned for the Banijan Collegiate Sports Group, and you know it was serious when it was decided to be a Presidents meeting. There hasn't been a Presidents meeting of the Banijan Collegiate Sports Group since the end of what was NSCF 16, when they voted to allow Northern Moravica and Loyola-Istria back to compete again within the NSCF, and brokered the deal to make that happen. An emergency President's meeting, over this, as this was a crucial part of the contract allowing the two Banijan schools to compete within the NSCF.

What happened, according to our sources, was complete chaos. Said an anonymous aide to the President of Istria City Community College, the group's smallest school- "It was a no holds barred screaming fest". Old grievances were reaired. There was screaming. There are rumors that there was a near physical confrontation between Northern Moravica Athletic Director Pelias Patras, and Jelaney Ebasse, the President of the University of Moravica, the school in Slobochia. Many schools pointedly accused Northern Moravica & Loyola-Istria of betrayal of their deal, and those two schools continued participation in the NSCF seemed in serious jeopardy.

Jelaney Ebasse, at the second day of the three day conference, even told reporters that "we all must be compensated for this foolish error by Northern & Loyola. Nothing more, nothing less." But the Celestia Conference schools, naturally, balked at the proposal to force even further extractions. When Fr. Thomas Young, the University President of Loyola-Istria, walked into the first day of the conference, he told this magazine that there was "no way that Loyola would cut another cent to the BCSG. They should be lucky that we give them payments at all. Without our schools, they'd all lose thousands of valuable dollars that they did nothing at all to earn. How are they the ones to hold us hostage?"

At the beginning of the third day of the conference, the issue seemed to be resolved. The 65 member schools of the BCSG voted, by an overwhelming majority of 49-16, to allow the 'continued and perpetual participation of Northern Moravica and Loyola-Istria, as long as those schools remained interested, without penalty'. Ultimately, the argument that the money everybody earns, even while losing the bowl game money, proved to weigh heavier than kicking them out of the NSCF entirely, even if the schools were not happy about the failure of Northern Moravica and Loyola-Istria to apply to host a bowl game at the Stadium of the Restoration.

But that, of course, is where the fireworks started. The BCSG, every single year that they have had a member institution in the NSCF, has bid to host the NSCF Title Game at Liberty Stadium, in Istria. A 70,000 seater dome inside Banija's biggest city, it has won bids to host the game twice, in NSCF 12 and NSCF 14, as well as finishing second out of four last year. It has even strengthened its resume since then, hosting 2 World Bowl matches, including a semifinal, in World Bowl 34. But then, came the jaw dropper.

National Capitol Region College President Isaiah Afolayan, decided to put forward The Stadium of the Restoration to bid to host the NSCF 18 Championship Game, rather than Liberty Stadium. Istria Mayor Beluchi Chiboza, here for what he thought was a formality, was blind-sided. It turns out that this was the plan of Afolayan all along, alongside Busukuma Mayor(whose city borders are coterminous with the National Capitol Region) Gitonga Kasekende, to try and get the NSCF 18 Championship Game here.

The capitol has hosted everything, from the Commonwealth Games to the RBSA Cup Final, but has gotten some serious international exposure in the past couple of years. It hosted games in the 28th World Lacrosse Championships. It hosted the Final of World Bowl 34, and they were successfully to get the defending WorldVision champion to the City to perform in what was a widely acclaimed halftime show. And, of course, it hosted the UICA Globe Cup Final, one of the biggest events in international club soccer. Holding just 1,000 seats less than Liberty Stadium, Mayor Kasekende got up to make his case to the delegates.

Mayor Chiboza was extremely unhappy with what was unfolding, but he wasn't even prepared to make a case. He simply brought along remarks to thank the BCSG for entrusting Istria, once again, to bid to host the NSCF 18 Championship Game, and then he started working the phones hard. It was a crazy, chaotic scene. All the Moravica schools, all 17 of them, easily the biggest region, voted for Istria. It was an economics thing. Would this championship game go back to the Northwest, where it has hosted plenty of NSCF title games, but not much else? Or would it go down to the City of Busukuma, where it has hosted the finals of various competitions, but in this one, it is upstaged by its larger rival?

After that, of course, it was voting by secret ballot, so it was extremely hard to get a regional breakdown of which way each school voted. But when the vote was counted, it was a razor-thin margin to go with Busukuma. Banija's capitol city, a 4 hour train ride from Loyola-Istria, the closest NSCF school, was losing out on a bowl game, but potentially gaining on a much larger, much more significant prize- the NSCF Final. And with even the two Banijan schools located 4 and 5 hours away, respectively, this was guaranteed to be a money maker, compared to the relative economic dud the NSCF 14 Championship Game was when Loyola-Istria made it and far less hotel space had to be used.

It was a 33-32 vote to host the championship game, full of intrigue, full of politics, and full of political power plays. We'll see how this plays out over the next few weeks. This stadium opens as the early favorite to win, of course, but other cities have still yet to unveil their bids. This is already playing out poorly politically, as Mayor Chiboza has openly called Busukuma Mayor Kasekende a "backstabber". While those two do not interact much, Mayor Chiboza is part of the Free Justice Party, while Mayor Kasekende is part of the Collective Resistance Union. Two parties on the left, who were just in coalition government with each other, and that may be something to watch as both men having rising star written all over them.

The thinnest possible margin of error, although a mirror of how the Celestia Conference championship race will play out, will be a source of consternation between schools. Which schools voted the way they did, and why? Was it really necessary to seek revenge on the City of Istria, which had already prepared an official bid committee, and paid expenses for them, before Busukuma came in, at the last possible moment, and snatched the bid away? Which city is the better to bid? Was this question even asked? We're not sure it was- it all seems it was schools who were willing to let the bowl game fiasco go, against schools who were angry that Northern & Loyola seemingly "got away" with not abiding by their end of the contract.

Of course, as time goes by, more things will come back. We have a great wealth of information, but we are sure that we'll find out more as time goes on. Which schools voted which way, why they did, how long Mayor Kasekende has been planning this coup, and, of course, will all this controversy surrounding it, can this bid pull itself together and bring back the NSCF championship game on home soil?

We'll be investigating, and when the All-Banija Sports Magazine knows, our readers will know first.

UC runs past New Jarwel 37-10

James Greer
Daily Mail Chief Football Writer

Reporting from Gleason Field, Belle Haven:

University of the Commonwealth has been known through much of its football history as one of the earliest proponents of the passing game, and a has a distinguished line of alumni who have played quarterback for the Warriors. When James Knapke was named UAC Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2015, few doubted he would add his name to the list, but inconsistency the last 2 seasons has dimmed his star a bit in the eyes of fans and critics alike.

Knapke has used the extension of his final season during the NSCF competition to regain some of his previous accolades, but on this particular night Knapke needed only to stay out of the way, as UC racked up 316 yards on the ground against a New Jarwel defense that seemed a step slower than they played against the Warriors on Matchday 3.

Senior RB Fred Coppet ran for 134 yards on 22 carries and two TD's while Patric Hannon gained 85 yards on 7 carries, finding the end zone once. Knapke also added 47 yards on the ground, coupled with a steady 17 of 24, 183 yard day through the air. Knapke's lone passing touchdown was a 31 yard strike to Vanel Dossous in the 2nd quarter.

The UC defense continued its fine performance, holding the Blue Lions to 83 total yards in the first half. They also scored their first touchdown in nearly 2 years when LB Austin Valdez scooped up a fumble and ran it back 26 yards in the third quarter.

Warrior kicker Nick Fields missed his first extra point after the Valdez TD, a result of a bobbled snap, but redeemed himself with just 4:14 left in the game when he hit a career long 56 yard field goal to close out the scoring, to the roaring approval of what remained of the sellout crowd of 47,000; Fields had a 44 yarder in the first half as well.

Next up for the Warriors is the last conference road game of the year, against Analoch City.

Valanora Times
Always Move Forward

There is a school of thought that suggests that one accepts their limitations, to adhere to them whenever they encounter them, that our limits are their to remind us that we are not made to be perfect. For a sportsman though, to find your limit and accept that you can never progress past that threshold is something akin to quitting, to giving up before the race has even been allowed to be run. Athletes have to continuously push forward and onward, to find those so called limits and then exceed with every fiber of their being. That is what is the competitive drive that pushes them forward to compete in the first place, for if you were to simply accept the idea that there is a limit to your potential, that your skill can be tapped out and never improved upon, then there would be no reason to train or even compete in the first place, if this other person or team has a limit that is far outside of your own. Why would you want to continue to work if there was no hope whatsoever at making progress or improving upon yourself, to take what was your previous skill and then raise the bar even higher and higher?

That is what the Rockets would have had to ask themselves over the past few years, what was the point of continuing on in the NSCF even when all the results showed that they had supposedly hit their limit as just another middling school that could on the occasion win a big game, but ultimately where nowhere near the mark to be title contenders. The Rockets did not give up, nor did the fans of the program give up on their team even when it would have been very easily and forgivable to do so with the lack of success that the Rockets were finding on the field. Instead, the Rockets and their fans continued to persevere even through the adverse outcomes that would have demoralized almost any other program if that would have gone through that long of a period without finding the sort of success to sustain their recruiting levels. The team that was there continued to train and try to get better, if only just slightly, to make it worth the teams and fans while to continue to believe that the program could take off at any moment, if only a few adjustments where had.

That moment has come now, with the Rockets taking on Richardson in Ranoria, knowing that all they need to do is go out and secure the victory in order to be crowned Champions of the Big Eight, a feat that would be quite the turn of events for this once downtrodden program. The Big Eight has been Ranoria's schools stomping grounds for at least three years and that both Raynor and Mar Sara Tech have found a way to defeat Richardson this season shows that the VSC's continued funding of the two programs to compete in the NSCF has not been a waste of resources, as they have closed the gap between them and the Ranoria powerhouse. It seems fitting that the Rockets will be given this opportunity to take the crown of the conference, one of the best conferences in the NSCF if you believe Drawkian, Chromatik, and Cosumarite anaylsts, in Ranoria against the team that has been the big dog of the conference for the last few years. Birk Lundström has done his part to guide the offense but you have to also look to Aaron Dahl, as the freshman linebacker has came into the Rockets defense and added a bit of steel to that side of the ball. The result has been one of the best defenses in all of the NSCF and now they have the biggest test and the offense will need them to deliver, for Richardson's own defense is quite a hard to crack unit itself, though the Raiders of Mar Sara Tech just tore them apart. The Rockets might have taken off this season but a conference champion would be the ultimate exclamation point of the moving forward focus that they have had the past few years as well as a huge feather in the cap of all of Valanora's collegiate programs.

-And we defeated the University of Iqaluit.
-Yes,that feels weird...specially after losing to St. Croix.
-Sure,win,lose,win again,win,win,lose it's unusual.
-Lose,lose,lose feels more natural... but not as good.
-Seventeen to three,what a difference.
-Fourteen points is really considerable, even more when you consider that it's one of the best universities from one of the best countries.
-Really hard to think that the beginning was very close.
-Yeah...but then we scored and we won more control.
-Surely next week will be tough.
-Really,I thought it'd be the one after.

NSCF 18 RECAP: ZEPHYR CONFERENCE DAY EIGHT

Bowerstone University 3 7 0 7 17
Thereisnogodistan Community College 10 7 3 3 23

Ah, finally, I can gab on the NSCF on the day that the games happened! It feels like such a relief after consecutive days of having to gab on games that happened over weeks ago. But enough about my feelings; let's get on with the game itself.

Bowerstone versus TCC. Nobody expected this to be as close as it eventually was, but we'll get to that later. Thereisnogodistan won the toss and elected to kick. They managed to keep Bowerstone to just a 50-yard field goal on their first ever possession, and TCC scored another field goal on their own opening drive, this one just from 35 yards away and therefore "relatively" much easier. Then Nelson McPhillips strip-sacked Vidar Dupond and Rey Kang recovered the ball on the Atheists' own 30, and TCC immediately took advantage of the turnover with Antonio Christofferson tossing the ball straight to Vince Almaguer for the first touchdown of the game.

Bowerstone replied in the second half with a touchdown of their own from Joffrey Saylor to level things out before Kerry Vickery handed the lead back to TCC with a 6-yard rushing touchdown that included a superhuman leap over Bowerstone's Steve Chancellor. You don't see that everyday, and it's quite possible that you won't see this ever again. TCC were reduced to kicking field goals in the second half, though, with Praxedes Ipanema making two out of three attempts, one out of two in the third quarter and one for one in the fourth. Praxedes scored the first field goal from 43 yards and then somehow missed one that was just 32 yards away. Praxedes Ipanema subsequently scored a 45-yard field goal to start off the fourth quarter before Bowerstone made it a one-possession game after Vidar Dupond took it to the pylon on 4th and goal on the 2-yard line. A Julian Scrivens pick on a pass from Anto Christofferson meant for Joel Fesler on the TCC 40 with 2:49 left in the quarter gave the men from Anthor a chance to tie or even win the game, but penalties, incompletions, and a sack forced them into making a punt, and from then on, Thereisnogodistan knelt their way to victory.

Ceneisis Naval Academy 10 10 10 10 40
Imperial Military Academy 0 0 0 0 0

And now for the big game, the Navy-Military game between Ceneisis Naval Academy and Vangaziland's Imperial Military Academy. The last time these two teams played, it was a tense game for two quarters before Ceneisis finally ran away with the lead in the third quarter and kept the Rangers to only a single field goal in the second half. In this game, however, Imperial Military Academy got absolutely dominated. They couldn't even get a field goal through the posts.

Might as well call it a Waylon Dalton masterclass of quarterback play. Future generations of Ceneisis Naval quarterbacks will look at this game and learn how to be a world-class quarterback from Waylon Dalton. It may not have started off on a good note, what with Ceneisis only managing a 39-yard field goal, but there was no way that they or anyone else in Throckmorton Bridge for that matter could have expected the absolute perfect storm that was about to come. When Waylon threw to Justine Henderson for a 15-yard touchdown, nobody thought that something special was about to come. There was no denying that Justine was Waylon's favorite receiver so for the two of them to connect yet again and score a touchdown out of it was just no longer news from the Ceneisis perspective.

Another field goal to start off the second quarter, this one from 47 yards away and almost sliced past the posts before curving back in between for the field goal. Imperial then had a massive chance to get themselves on the scoreboard before a facemask penalty and then a sack forced the Rangers into a three and out, and Ceneisis were able to advance the ball into the 5-yard line before Waylon handed off the ball to Marcus Cruz for the rushing TD. This was perhaps the moment where people began thinking that they were being witness to something very special happening before their eyes. Waylon Dalton was just making passes left and right, and his teammates were stepping up to the task alongside him. What more could a gridiron fan ask for, really?

Things were just about to get tougher for Imperial Military Academy. They started off the third quarter with the first possession but Rory Whetsel picked off the pass on 3rd and 2 and ran to the end zone for a pick-six. Ataullah Nagi capped off the pick-six with an easy-peasy extra point before he was called to duty once again to kick a 40-yard field goal. You can guess where this is possibly going, no? The Imperials are reeling on the ropes, and then they begin swinging like there's no tomorrow and they actually do the impossible and recover from a 30-point deficit to win the game on a field goal.

Well, that's not what happened. Imperial were forced to punt once again after yet another third and out for them, and at that point Ceneisis Naval were in the driver's seat. The Midshipmen's dominance over their armed forces rivals also allowed the opportunity for some of the second-string players to strut their stuff, and in fact Teodoro Younker saw this game as an opportunity to raise his stock with the FNLAF and the PGSL if the FNLAF doesn't pan out for him. Younker caught a 23-yard pass from Waylon Dalton and then Younker ran 20 more yards to reach the end zone for the fourth Ceneisis touchdown of the game, and at this point even the special teams were beginning to show off, what with Ataullah Nagi attempting (and making) a 53-yard field just for the fun of it.

Well, that leaves me with nothing more to do except watch over Cousin Aisling watch the Handball World Cup. Don't expect much from me later on tonight. I might have to do some stuff to keep the bills paid. It's to be a Gaelic Gamer, which is why we've been recruiting more and more writers for our site lately. Warriors survive upset bid

Teresa Bramlage
Daily News Football Writer

Reporting from Analoch, Tekashan:

University of the Commonwealth held off a spirited effort by Analoch City, coming from behind to beat the Rebels 23-17 at the Scyclone Stadium in front of 53,642. Analoch was looking for its second consecutive upset, after they had taken down Vietussia Academy in their previous match.

From the start, the Rebels showed little respect for UC, who won the previous matchup in Belle Haven 27-10; QB William Rosenburg leading ACU on the opening drive 75 yards to set up RB Losan Bechard for a 5 yard scamper around left end.

The Warriors replied immediately, QB James Knapke hitting WR Ronnie Moore on a 46 yard pass to the Rebel 22, leading to a Nick Fields 33 yard FG with 6:37 left in the first quarter.

Analoch extended their lead in the second quarter when Sergie Bakeman split the uprights from 44 yard and the Rebels held the 10-3 lead until halftime.

The second half started just like the first, UC driving 80 yards in 9 plays capped off by Moore's 7 yard TD catch in the back of the end zone to tie the score at 10.

Following an exchange of punts, the Warriors again moved quickly down the field, Knapke finding Fred Coppet on a screen pass that went for 21 yards and James Cleveland, returning after an injury kept him out of the previous game, burst through the Rebel line for 16 yards to the ACU 5. But the defense stiffened and Fields came on to hit a 23 yard kick and UC had its first lead at 13-10.

The fourth quarter would see the teams put on a masterclass in football; after Fields extended the lead with a 38 yard field goal just 1:40 into the final frame and Analoch punted on their next possession, UC had what looked to be another promising drive when Knapke under-threw an open Teo Redding at the Rebel 28 and CB Rico Bonaparte stepped in front of Redding to give Analoch the ball back. Rosenburg then led the offense on a 72 yard march which ended with Bechard going over for his second score from 4 yards and the hosts had a 17-16 lead with 4:50 left in the game.

The Warriors took possession at their own 22, and as they had throughout the 2nd half took the ball methodically down the field, encountering only one third down to convert, and Knapke redeemed his earlier error by finding Redding on the 8th play of the drive for an 8 yard TD catch and giving UC the lead 23-17 with just 1:12 left.

Analoch had one final chance to steal the win, but DT Nico Lautenen deflected a Rosenburg pass on 4th down after DT Andre Douglas sacked Rosenburg on the previous play.

The Warriors remain tied atop the Mineral Conference with Besulyt at 8-1, and have all but clinched a spot in the NSCF playoffs. They will play their final conference game at home against University of Humaliwo hoping to win the championship in front of their supporters.

Richardson struggles, Garrett's Injuries Beginning to Worry Pro Squads

With John Garrett's back flaring up once again three weeks back, the Governors still produced on offense without their star quarterback, primarily through RB Melvin Strong. Details of the injury are uncertain as of yet, with Richardson's staff being particularly stingy with that sort of thing, but if these issues persist, not only could it cost the Governors their shot at playoff contention, but drop John Garrett's draft stock by a good deal. Fortunately, Garrett was able to toss another four touchdowns en route to a victory over Cold Hill after the Buffalo shut down the running game. But unfortunately, Angelo Gordon, racking up his second sack of the night, injured Garrett, who managed to play against the University of Constantinople for two quarters, and hasn't been seen since.

To be fair, Tucker Wolfe, a true freshman, hasn't been horrible, tossing 412 yards and a pair of scores, but three interceptions while running in another score in the three games that he's played, but he's a year away from being able to play at a high level.

If John is unable to play, this team very well could drop its next four contests, just as it has dropped the last two after an impressive 6-1 start to a #4 pre season ranking season, but there is still time for John Garrett to return this team to its elite level of contention.

With any luck, QB John Garrett will return soon, team reports have gone as far as to say that he could return as soon as this week. Whether or not he does, Tucker Wolfe is competent enough to at least get this squad a win, as opposed to the miserable Barron Dawson, who attempted to step onto the field in relief of John Garrett last NSCF season to the tune of throwing games away with interceptions.

Extra security measures in place ahead of UC game Sunday--wire report

(CPA) Belle Haven--Several initiatives have been adopted by Belle Haven Metro Police & the University of the Commonwealth Campus Police, who will receive assistance from the NPS when UC hosts their final home game of their Mineral Conference schedule in the NSCF against University of Humaliwo with an opportunity to clinch the conference championship with a victory.

The biggest change is the time of the game's kickoff; previous Sunday home games have been pushed into primetime windows for television coverage, but Metro PD advised the school's Athletic Department that an early afternoon start would be advisable to hold down the number of alcohol related arrests both prior to and following the game. The game is now scheduled for 14:35 and MPD have declared a Schedule C restriction on alcoholic beverage sales in College Hill and all of Pleasant Township south of the Pleasant Expressway, along with Hillsborough and Ellis Park; this will mean that holders of Section 3 Sunday licenses will be prohibited from selling alcohol until 13:00, and Section 2 licensees will be prohibited from retail sales of beer or wine from 0400 until 12:00. The sale of beer within Gleason Field will be limited to 2 servings per person from 13:30 and will end with 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter.

The UC athletic department reports that ticket sales for Humaliwo are lower than expected, so there will be a sizable number of available seats for sale beginning at 12:00 at the stadium box office; UC campus police and the NPS will still enforce a segregation buffer for visiting fans and will have an increased presence outside of the stadium to identify potential problems.

Finally, MPD will close off access to the Asbury Road offramps in both directions to all traffic at 13:45; CARTA will have shuttle buses available on a 15 minute schedule from Asbury Park Civic Center to campus from 11:30 with return service until 17:00.

Besulyt collects multiple victories, remains 8-1 in a tie with the Commonwealth.

The Besulyt offense has been electric. Peterson has been able to keep his interceptions to a minimum, and his offense has been electric, running down the clock efficiently and killing time using their dynamic running back duo's. Offensive captain and FB Anton Debuluwele is one of the teams best blockers, and, along with a great set of legs, has been a important part of the offense. If Krossa can keep this offensive productivity up, and their defense can continue being shutdown, Besulyt may be able to take down the Commonwealth in division standings.

Besulyt shuts down Vietussia, making it a toe to toe matchup in the conference

A 3-17 defensive victory was highlighted by a strong running game. Jarmo Ruoho had the game of his life, rushing for 179 yards and catching for 23 yards. He ran for a touchdown aswell. Marcus Falk, FS, supplied the other touchdown in a amazing 82 yard pick six. Matti Petterson threw for 232 yards in the game in what was a 'exciting' performance against a rather unexciting team.

Besulyt beats HUmaliwo, 19-6
Only allowing 2 field goals, Besulyt picked up two interceptions. Matti Petersson threw 2 touchdowns and a interception whilst running for 83 yards and passing for 302. Ruoho ran for 101 yards in a rather uneventful game. Eemil Karpinnen picked up 106 yards receiving and a touchdown. Aukusti Ranta caught a TD and received 4 passes for 59 yards.

Besulyt guts New Jarwa 3-23

In another field goal only defensive game for Besulyt there was a shocking 4 interceptions! Matti Petersson threw for a touchdown to Anton Debuluwele, an unlikely receiving target. Jarmo Ruoho picked up a touchdown on a 6 yard rush. Overall Petersson passed for 330 yards and Ruoho ran for 85 yards and a fumble. Ruuben Niemen, a 5th string receiver, made a surprising one handed catch for a 25 yard reception. Sakke Jokela picked up the touchdown and 146 receiving yards. Karpannen received for 123 yards.

"Let's put a show on for 'em, John." Larry Foster gently nudged his quarterback's arm, hoping to not re-ignite the back injury that had kept him sidelined the past couple of weeks, "Might not have won the conference, but hell, let's give them something to remember before we move on to the out of conference games, right?"

"Yeah," John sighed, "You're right." It hurt, this year was the last year that it had been felt, widely, that Richardson had a chance to win it all. At the moment, they sat at 6-3, impressive, but not very. If they couldn't pick it up, at this rate, they'd lose not only the Rebel Cannon Bowl, a classic, now, against Loyola in week 13, but they would struggle to even win a playoff game.

He took his helmet after the kick return going through the automatic motions of taking in the play, but something was off, he just couldn't quite figure out what it was as he dropped back and fired the ball...right into a defender's hands.

It was only his second interception of the season, but despite that, he couldn't help but wonder what in the hell had happened, even as Melvin Strong brought the DB down after the play.

That can't happen again.

And it didn't. Duchess Marion was forced to a quick three and out after the interception, leaving them with only a field goal off of the pick, and John Garrett was his normal self after that, the next drive going 3/4 and capping it off with a 33 yard touchdown pass off of play action to tight end Gunther Krause.

Excerpt from the Richardson Herald...

Richardson began piling it on after that first touchdown, with their star quarterback finding the end zone once again in the first quarter, all the while holding Duchess Marion to a total of 32 offensive yards in the first half and scoring 20 themselves off a total of three John Garrett touchdown passes...and one Ta'Shaun Blue missed field goal, a common theme of the kicker's infamous career at Richardson University.

Judas Wolfson, at the end of the half, had already racked up 4 tackles and an interception, the freshman strong safety certainly leaving his mark already, but in the second half, Duchess Marion looked to be gaining momentum, taking a nice kick return to the Governors' forty yard line, marching thirty yards, and hitting a second field goal before sacking John Garrett on third down the next drive. The Governors responded with a second interception, this one also by Judas Wolfson, and a fourth John Garrett touchdown pass to take a 27-6 lead. At this point, Garrett was pulled to prevent further injury, and while the defense continued to play well, the game was over in two more drives a piece, with Duchess Marion ending the contest with 6 points and 138 yards of offense, their opponents hanging 34 on them, their final score coming from runner Melvin Strong.

With any luck, this is a sign of things to come, because even with the interception, John Garrett looked like himself, and the Governors offense was humming quite nicely with him delivering the passes. He finishes the conference schedule with a 25-2 TD-INT ratio, 2,700 yards passing, and 61 yards rushing, high marks, especially after missing multiple contests in a ten game schedule. Melvin Strong, meanwhile, ended the ten game run with 1,209 yards on the ground and 160 in the air, with 12 total touchdowns. Perhaps the most interesting statistic, however, is that of the receiving corps. Kieran Kweo-Atkison, the freshman out of Banija, hauled in 58 receptions for 942 yards, a team-high 16.2 yards per catch, and second on the team 7 trips to the end zone, receiving, despite missing two games. He nearly caught up to Larry Foster, the team's #1, possession and jump ball receiver, who had a 100 catch year, totaling 968 yards and ten scores, averaging a TD and ten catches a game. Had he played a full season, it isn't unrealistic to say that he would have led the team in those categories, and with three games left on the season, he very well may do so, even now. Isaiah Bryce, also a freshman, currently leads the team in tackles with 89, a nice number for the centerpiece of Richardson's defense in years to come, this kid also coming out Banija, while strong safety, and Ranorian, true freshman Judas Wolfson tied(FS Jason Dim) for the team lead with six interceptions, while also racking up 5 sacks and forcing a fumble that he took back for a defensive touchdown . It's fair to say that these two, and Atkison, were one hell of a recruiting class on their own for the Governors.

With Garrett at the helm and Strong at tailback, to get back to them, along with other playmakers, the Governors sprinted their way to the 2nd highest ranked offense in the NSCF, behind only Isaka Jawara's Loyola University. With that kind of explosive firepower, we can only hope that this team will turn the corner, starting next week against the University of the Commonwealth of Baker Park, who went an astonishing 9-1 this season.

Interestingly enough, this is the first time in Richardson's three NSCF seasons that they haven't won the Big 8 title, so this year they will have to vye for one of the other, non-automatic playoff spots. It may seem a certainty that a 7-3 squad is right there to take it, but Richardson going 0-3 in these next three contests is a very real certainty, and an 7-6 mark on the season isn't exactly going to dazzle the committee. On the other hand, a sweep of these games, with perennial contender (and rival) Ramusok Capital as well as more friendly rival Loyola University on the schedule, putting Richardson at 10-3, would practically guarantee them a playoff spot.

We can only hope for the best. Oh, and I almost forgot...

Go Governors!

MPD report 23 arrests amid raucous celebrations--wire report

(BPNS) Belle Haven--Following the 23-17 victory by University of the Commonwealth at Jacob Gleason Field against University of Humaliwo Sunday afternoon, Belle Haven Metro Police and the NPS reported only a limited number of disturbances throughout the College Hill area that surrounds the UC campus, although several side streets had to be blocked off to traffic.
The visiting team buses were allowed unrestricted access to the freeway to take them to Mansfield Regional Airport, but several hundred of the visiting ticket holders from Humaliwo asked to be allowed to leave the stadium at the conclusion of the match, with a sizable number of UC fans assuring the police of the safety of the guests. Several of the pubs and bars nearby in College Hill offered complimentary beverages to fans from Humaliwo, and no major incidents were reported to MPD or the UC Campus Police between 15:55 and 19:00.

Among the UC student housing areas off & on-campus, celebrations were boisterous but relatively contained; the final seconds of the match itself saw a massive invasion of the field by the student body, who were kept at a distance from the goal posts by the security officers.
The conclusion of the game ensures that the Warriors will be guaranteed at place in the NSCF playoffs and to be recognized as the Mineral Conference Champions.

The arrest total was attributed to a strict pre-game enforcement of alcohol sales and a relatively lenient enforcement of consumption laws; only situations where there were demonstrable threats to public order were pursued, and a widespread campaign among UC undergraduates to pull together to minimize problems and support the school's team and image was a major factor.
MPD Chief Constable William Lickert and Belle Haven County Sheriff Diane Ponsby praised the student effort and the overall tenor of the crowd with making the day a success at every level.
Lickert: "We've been fortunate that supporters from Baker Park who have traveled to away games in this competition have vouched for the character and hospitality of many of the supporters from other nations who have come to the Commonwealth for games."
Ponsby: "Chief Lickert and I have been overwhelmed by the response we've gotten from the alumni groups and boosters of UC who have reported their experiences traveling to the various nations; the particular circumstances surrounding this day required us--and the NPS and the UC Police--to make decisions that seemed like an overreaction. But we always kept open the possibility of dialing back some of the more restrictive rules; the negotiations to permit any of the Humaliwo supporters to leave the stadium with the assurance and guarantee of safety by the local fans were conducted with the highest level of respect among the parties."
Lickert: "We never approached the day as a problem among opposing supporters; the previous games we've policed here during this competition have been among some of the least tense or emotional occasions we have ever encountered. On the balance, our officers from MPD and the other security personnel have almost unanimously agreed that fans from the opposing teams' country have been well behaved, widely respected & embraced, and treated with a courtesy that hosts are expected to extend to guests."
Ponsby: "The Chief and I had a discussion with the senior commanders around 11:30 and made the call to restrict a large area around the campus to automobile traffic. It was becoming evident that there was a great deal of pedestrian traffic along side streets, with many street parties and student houses having large get-together's in yards and along sidewalks. We established the decision to only enforce open carry restrictions along streets where traffic was not restricted; anyone caught in violation would only need to surrender the open container without citation. I believe this had a great effect on the numbers of arrests on the day and the general atmosphere, where there was a strong police presence that was largely present but benign.
Lickert: "The Sheriff is right on target, we could've had a much more aggressive, active and stringent attitude, but our discussions with the University officials, and the borough authorities brought all of us to the conclusion that we should not interfere with the celebration, as long as it remained within limits and minimized danger to the general public."

Northern Moravica celebrate 4th Celestia conference title since NSCF 12 as team gets ready for non-conference play

Image
Senior Wide Receiver Dobromir Margolin celebrates a touchdown reception in Northern Moravica's 24-0 victory to end conference play

HERZEGOVINA CITY- Northern Moravica University, for the second straight year and the fourth time in their five NSCF seasons, have been crowned the champions of the Celestia Conference. After their defense stepped up once again and dominated the game from the point of attack, the line of scrimmage, Chae Heung-Kim threw a pair of touchdown passes to Dobromir Margolin, while Beluchi Okparro had a 3rd touchdown for Northern Moravica on the ground, as Northern Moravica finished conference play 9-1 for the second straight year and in the process, won their second straight Celestia Conference championship. The 24-0 victory featured another outstanding performance from the Northern Moravica front 7, who pitched what shattered any Banijan college football record with an insane 7 shutouts, and in reality, it would have been 8 if not for the safety that occurred in their team's 34-2 home victory over Fair Haven State in week 8, when true freshman safety Fara Touré intercepted a pass at the goal line, crossed into the field of play, then ran back into the end zone and was tackled for a safety.

The 24-0 victory was fairly routine for Northern Moravica. The defense dominated up front again, and for the seventh time officially(but in reality, the 8th) did not allow an opposing offense to score on them. Chae Heung-Kim found Margolin on a 15 yard out route on the game's opening drive, capping a 7 play, 73 yard drive to give Northern Moravica their first touchdown of the game. When the second quarter was dying, with just 12 seconds left, Margolin was found on a fade route in the corner on first and goal from just 5 yards out, as the senior, playing his last conference game in Herzegovina City, was able to outjump the Army Academy defender in the corner of the end zone, to give the hosts a 14-0 lead. With their defense holding the fort down, they were able to put the game away in the 3rd quarter, with their two 3rd quarter drives ending in a 40 yard field goal and a one play, 77 yard touchdown drive that was on a halfback toss to Okparro. Just like that, Northern Moravica had done what was required of them, and with a point differential of +196 as compared to Loyola's +191, Northern Moravica officially retained their Celestia Conference.

This season came down to razor thin margins- they and Loyola could not separate based on record, and they couldn't even separate themselves on the field- two head to head games, each with the home team winning by a single point in regulation, shows simply how close these two hated rivals are. Regardless, the rules state that point differential is the next tiebreaker, and Northern Moravica was able to win that battle, somewhat surprisingly, thanks to the ferociousness of their defense, rather than the brilliance of their offense. Their offense, however quietly, had an excellent year. Quietly putting up 26.2 points per game, they are currently 3rd in scoring offense among the 48 member squads of the NSCF, and much of that is due to the surprisingly excellent development of the true freshman quarterback. Chae Heung-Kim has developed an excellent relationship with fellow Quebecois offensive coordinator Joon Ho Kweon, They have been able to operate this offense very efficiently, and while he hasn't been asked to do a ton, he has done what he has been asked to do well.

The story of the season, and why they are conference champs, has to be the defense. While they finished with the #3 scoring defense, an excellent showing, there is an argument that they have been the singular best defense in the NSCF. There is only one offense that has scored on them, and that is Loyola-Istria, the top ranked scoring offense in the NSCF for the second straight season. Northern Moravica have pitched an unheard of 7 shutouts in conference play- shattering any and all Banijan records, and while we aren't sure, 7 shutouts has to be a NSCF record, especially for conference play. This is a mean bunch from Herzegovina City that Horace Browning has put together. How has he put together a defense so good? How have they, outside of the Blue Thunder, been able to dominate their conference opponents so thoroughly?

Well, it starts with the front 7. The heart and soul of the defense is Tuelo Leruo, the senior middle linebacker. But there is experience and talent all across the front seven. You have Kawhi Kgolo, who leads the team with 9 sacks this season, who has been harassing quarterbacks from all schools from day 1. You have defensive tackles like Molaodi Rotlhe and Setshaba Thomase who are clogging the middle of the offensive line. The pair of 6'6, 300 pound linemen are a terror for interior linemen to guard, and their ability to clog blocks gives ample space and opportunity for Northern's linebackers to sprint forward and tackle the running back in the backfield. They also don't allow double teams on the outside, which means that ends like Kgolo get consistent one on one opportunities against the opponent's tackles. He is simply too fast and strong to be blocked by only one person on the edge- and his ability to rush throws, and even get inside a quarterback's head, make them hear footsteps, is one of the reasons why this defense has been so dominant.

But, of course, the one Achilles heel of this defense is its secondary. You have a redshirt sophomore Denes Bakas playing the second cornerback spot, with a true freshman playing in the nickel back spot. And, of course, you have first year starters at both safety spots. That is the one major concern for this defense. And you know how it is a major concern? Because the best quarterback they faced, Isaka Jawara, picked them apart. Jawara threw four touchdown passes against Northern Moravica, on their own field, back in week 2 in a 38-37 win for Northern Moravica. Isaka Jawara threw for two more in the return game in Istria, and also ran for the game-winning touchdown. The best quarterbacks, if they have time, will be able to beat the members of this secondary, and give the Northern Moravica football team serious fits.

Overall, the Celestia Conference is a weak conference. Now that Northern Moravica has flown through it, they need to find a way to step up for non-conference play. They did not do themselves any scheduling favors here- but with the conference title under wraps, they have the ability to play against tough teams and learn, and test the relatively untested parts of their team. They play away to Stoneshore College, who are 7-3 in the Horizon Conference and are currently a borderline playoff team, which means that they'll put up a massive fight against Northern Moravica. They also have Northern Moravica's number, as the Cougars are 1-4 all-time against Stoneshore College, with Northern's only win in this series coming in week 13 of NSCF 13, but being avenged just one week later in Cosumar when they met again in the playoffs, when Northern Moravica fell in the first round of the playoffs, again. Then, of course, there is the visit from the University of the Commonwealth of Baker Park, who are the 9-1 Mineral Conference champions, before Northern Moravica travels to Vietussia Academy for their last game of the season, a former Celestia Conference rival, in the battle for the Golden Axe.

Ultimately, their defense will be tested in those 3 games. All three of those teams are, outside of Loyola-Istria, better competition and more of what Northern Moravica will face in the postseason, as they struggle to earn their first-ever postseason win. How will their game go against Stoneshore College? Two teams who focus on defense, we expect a smashmouth football game, with lots of big hits, short runs, and very few points scored. It is quite possible that a single touchdown could decide how this game swings- so expect teams to not to try and waste their opportunities to score, which will be few and far between. How will Chae Heung-Kim be able to handle that defense, that crowd? The incentive for both teams will be high. But Northern Moravica has a bad non-conference history in general, and especially away from home, and especially against Stoneshore College. The stars aren't aligning for Northern Moravica in week 1 of non-conference play, so our prediction will be a 10-7 victory for Stoneshore College.

Red-hot Blue Thunder take down Northern Dinagat 38-14 for 8th straight victory heading into non-conference play

Isaka Jawara celebrates after throwing a touchdown pass against Northern Dinagat State

ISTRIA- For Loyola-Istria, the fact that they didn't win the Celestia Conference championship has to be a disappointment. The opportunity was there, against their archrivals to the North, to win the conference championship twice, by separating themselves on the field of play, point differential be damned. First, of course, was the 1 point away loss, and the failure to win that game, all the way back in week 2. What will hurt more is their failure to convert the two point conversion against Northern Moravica, which would have given the team the head to head point differential, and allowed them to win it based off of that, rather than overall point differential. Regardless, it is what it is at this point, and for the second straight season, the Blue Thunder will be looking to make the playoffs as a wild card entrant.

They have a strong chance to do so, and it would be an upset if they didn't. The top 6 non-conference champions in the OSPI are automatically granted playoff berths, while the last two are voted upon by the committee. Fortunately, while last season Loyola-Istria needed to impress the committee, though they easily took their places in the field and proved they belonged by winning the whole thing, this season they have a very strong chance to not only be in the top 6 non-conference champs that get automatic bids, but be the singular top ranked team that did not win their conference. They have a remarkably easier non-conference schedule than Northern Moravica, who play a borderline playoff team, a conference champion who is currently in the midst of a 9 game winning streak, and then go pay a visit to Vietussia Academy, a rival that both Banijan schools used to spar with in the Celestia Conference, with conference championships and playoff berths on the line.

First, of course, before we delve into that, we need to delve into Loyola-Istria's 38-14 victory over Northern Dinagat State, that further served to show the growing gulf between the two Banijan schools and the rest of the Celestia Conference, particularly the Lycrabon schools, to whom the Banijan schools have never lost. This featured a lot of the same from the NSCF's top ranked offense- a lot of Isaka Jawara, with a dash of Obea & Islan to boot, enough to shock and awe their opponents by loading up with a big lead to start the game, and suffocating them for the rest of the game to not allow them even any hope of mounting a comeback, because they cannot possibly get a stop against the Blue Thunder offense. That strategy worked at home, once again, and is a big reason why they sit at 9-1, having won 8 games in a row and seem to be just hitting their stride at the right time.

Isaka Jawara was able to throw a pair of touchdown passes in the 1st quarter. In fact, his first touchdown pass was on the very first play of the game. The opening kickoff was a touchback, which the Cougars took at the 25 yard line. They lined up in the shotgun with three out wide, as they normally do. They bunched everybody to the right, with senior wide receiver Anchises Athans in the middle of the bunch. He was motioned to the left, and followed by the Northern DInagat nickel cornerback- an easily exploitable mismatch. He ran a fly route, and after getting a step on his man, Jawara threw a perfect ball in stride, as he caught the pass and ran the rest of the way to the end zone, for a 75 yard touchdown pass. The second drive, after a Northern Dinagat 3 and out, was a much more methodical drive. 13 plays, 6:55 taken off the clock, 83 yards, and ending in a 4 yard touchdown pass on 2nd and goal to senior tight end Ismaela Baldeg. All of a sudden, Loyola-Istria led 14-0, and it was barely halfway through the 1st quarter.

The Blue Thunder really took the game to their opponents in the second quarter. A long drive at the end of the 1st quarter had resulted in a 26 yard field goal, which meant that entering the 2nd quarter, the Blue Thunder led 17-0. They were smelling blood in the water, and they were looking to bust this game open in the 2nd quarter, and they did just that. The Blue Thunder had another long, methodical drive- this one going 79 yards in 12 plays, taking 6:13 off of the clock, with the drive ending in a 2 yard touchdown pass from Isaka Jawara to Artemesio Take, to give his squad a 24-0 lead. After the teams traded stops for a while, Isaka Jawara led an excellent two minute drill. This drive, going 74 yards in 7 plays and just 1:13, resulted in Jawara's fourth touchdown pass of the game, this time to true freshman Nathaniel Islan. This gave the Blue Thunder a 31-0 lead going into the half.

At that point, Alanso Isa had seen enough. Isaka Jawara and the first team offense did not play the entirety of the second half, giving way to Duta Condeh in the 3rd quarter, and Jibrin Mendy in the 4th quarter, while the 1st team defense only played through the 3rd quarter. While the Blue Thunder's defense allowed 14 points in the 4th quarter, the game was long over at that point, and the Blue Thunder knew that they had done what they came to do- win their 8th straight game, even if they could not clinch a conference championship. Overall, Alanso Isa was happy with his team's performance. "We can control what we can control, and we set out to win this game, and have done so. While we haven't won the conference, we are still 9-1, and have won 8 in a row, and have had an excellent season so far. While we haven't accomplished our goals yet, I am confident that this team is both good enough and hungry enough to do so, and I expect us to be ready for what is going to be a very tricky trip, visiting Relandrat."

Loyola's first two non-conference opponents, away to Relandrat and home to Northwest Ballina State, are a pair of newcomers. Relandrat are an interesting visit for the defending NSCF champions. In their first year in the NSCF, they finished 7-3 in the Equinox Conference, meaning that they are a borderline playoff team, fighting hard, like Loyola-Istria, for one of those 8 coveted wild card playoff berths. They will be wearing the red knighted helmets against the Blue Thunder. The school is massive, with over 88,000 undergraduates, bigger than the combined population of Northern Moravica and Loyola-Istria, Banija's two largest institutions of higher education. They are playing in Yito Stadium, which is a behemoth to match, a place that sits over 120,000 people. Since it's a visit by the defending champs, we expect a loud, crazy atmosphere awaiting the Blue Thunder.

It will be an interesting challenge for the Blue Thunder. While Relandrat has a league average, or slightly worse than league average defense, allowing 16.8 points per game, they have an excellent offense, putting up just over 23 points per game. The Blue Thunder are favored, of course, but who knows what can happen on the road against an unfamiliar opponent in college football? Marlon Reskon is a talented quarterback, and he is surely going to attack Corrin Fairless, the talented true freshman cornerback from Ranoria, simply because he is a true freshman. It'll be a tough one for the Blue Thunder, but we expect Alanso Isa's boys to pull away late, and to pull out a 35-24 victory. An exciting watch for the fans, but simply too much firepower from the Blue Thunder for Relandrat to deal with.

Then there is the visit from Northwest Ballina State to Istria, which, by all accounts, will be an easy victory for the Blue Thunder, and an easy way to get a win on senior day, to honor Loyola's senior class. And lastly, of course, there is the visit from Richardson University. Since Istria is not bidding to host the NSCF Title Game, they are hosting the Rebel's Cannon Bowl, what is to be an annual game between the Blue Thunder and Richardson University, at Liberty Stadium, just 6 miles off Loyola's campus. They played a thriller last season in Ranoria, with both teams going toe to toe, before Jawara threw an interception to Stovall at the goal line in the game's dying minutes as the Blue Thunder lost, 35-31. Loyola will be looking for revenge for that game. It will be an interesting environment, a home game at a professional stadium, rather than the on-campus stadium, as the dome is expected to be filled to capacity with Loyola fans, and quite a few visiting fans from Richardson University as well.

That's the big game coming up, and it will be the most hyped, as a couple of Banijans play for Richardson while Corrin Fairless starts for the Blue Thunder. Of course, the Blue Thunder need to focus to get to that game unscathed, as Relandrat is more than capable of pulling off a well-timed upset to slow down and upend this red hot football team.

UC coach knows work is not finished
by Peter Brinson, National College Football Editor

University of the Commonwealth have won 11 National Championships in their long, proud history but their first ever conference championship might be their best victory ever. Warrior coach Scott Newell sat down to discuss the season, and what lies ahead.

PB: "first of all, congratulations on a magnificent result and season. Can you talk about what it felt like when the game was over yesterday?"

SN: "thank you Pete, it's been an interesting 10 weeks, hasn't it?"
PB: "indeed it has"
SN: "I think I felt a twinge of sadness, because when you win a championship of any kind, it's at the end of a season generally and you feel like you don't want it be over. It wasn't until we were back in the locker room and the emotions and the excitement of the players were really tangible that it dawned on me that we have to do this again, to get back on focus & prepare for the next challenge."
PB: "Can we talk just a bit about your thinking at the start of this competition and what you expected to get out of participating?"
SN: "I knew that this would be an opportunity to give our younger guys extra practice time, which probably doesn't impress the other coaches in the UAC, but I wanted to be able to put a competitive example of our country's football prowess on a stage where it would get respect and notice. I sat down with Melissa (Sweeney-Allen, UC AD) and asked her what kind of result would be acceptable as confirmation that our time wasn't wasted by doing this and she said as long as the guys gave everything they had, no one in the administration would have regrets, that if the team represented the school honorably there would be no amount of criticism she would tolerate."
PB: "so in other words, don't create an international incident?"
SN: "(laughs) something like that. But it's important to have that kind of backing & support, she's always been a huge supporter of our program. I don't think I really gave much thought to how many games we might win or have the opportunity to potentially win until we were on the plane to Krossa (week 1). I sort of hoped that we might break even in the round robin and then not get embarrassed in the last 3 weeks."
PB: "which brings us to the next point. Now that the conference season is over, you have these 3 games that are non-conference matchups and don't really affect your status as an automatic qualifier for the playoff. When the schedule first came out, I thought that it was madness that you had arranged games against these schools who are very successful in this competition. Do you regret having to get involved in tough games ahead of the chance to win in the playoffs?"
SN: "not at all. We knew going in that these 3 games had the potential to be a step too far for us in terms of playing good opponents. But I think we owe it to our team and the school and the nation that we accept tough challenges. I'm reminded of the speech that (late U.S. President) John Kennedy made when he said we don't choose to go to the moon because it's easy, we choose to go because it's hard. We aren't doing rocket science here, but it still is worth taking the step."
PB: "give me a brief preview of the first opponent, Richardson."
SN: "they are in a spot where they need to probably win 2 of the 3 games to make the playoffs, so we aren't expecting them to play anything less than full out. The quarterback, Garrett, is really good. He's been talked about in their local press as being Player of the Year potential. I've been a little bit worried the last couple of weeks how our defense has slipped a bit from earlier in the season, we need to get the line back to pressuring the pocket the way they did against Besulyt in the second game. So you have all of the makings of a real trap--hostile crowd, motivated team with real talent and a team that is ripe for an emotional letdown. So obviously for us on the staff, the work isn't close to being finished."
PB: "thanks for your time Coach, best of luck to you and the guys."
SN: "it's been my pleasure Pete."
