OOC: The contract offer to Ducky Fitzhugh has been revised to six years and $230 million; it still has yet to be made public.

The Headquarters of the New Llama Cyclones

"Jim, come on," said David Windhorst. "Yes, I know we just signed Quinlan, yes, he cost eighty-five million. But he's good, okay? We're getting more than our money's worth. Unless you wanna tell me you can just find a guy who goes 19-8 with a sub-3 ERA and FIP, with a strikeout per inning, on the open market for twelve million a year?" On the other end of the line, Jim Karlsson, the owner of the New Llama Cyclones, hemmed and hawed. Quinlan was only so cheap because they'd have him for the next seven years, nobody had expected him to do so well, and he hadn't exactly been leading Tenburg to much glory recently. "Jim. Come on. He's arguably our best pitcher and he costs twelve million a year. If you trust me - we need to get Fitzhugh."

Jim claimed he'd already agreed to a five-year offer, and that offer was final. "Listen. A team in Lycrabon just offered him four hundred million dollars. I'm not saying we need to go that high. But we need to at least meet his offer. Six years, $230 million." Protests on the other end. I don't have that money!, Jim was saying. "I'll slash the payroll if we need to make ends meet. But with the money Fitzhugh'll bring in, we won't need to." Jim had already extended Natalie Wu, Hector Rinaldi, Markus Wright, and Carsten Riviera. If Wu, Rinaldi, Wright, Riviera, and Rory Quinlan - all for a guaranteed four years - could bring the Cyclones a title, why pay for more?

But David Windhorst had anticipated this argument. "Jim, this isn't about winning a single title. We've won a single title. Winning a single title is easy. What this is about is winning three, four, five titles. This is about dynasty. You have the chance to go down as the owner of the best Cyclones team of all time."

A pause. "Fine. Six years, two hundred thirty million."

"Great, thanks." David Windhorst began composing the message immediately. He was halfway done when he felt something move behind the table.

"Ha! I got it!" said the unmistakable, nasal voice of none other than infamous reporter* Bryant Kennedy. Windhorst looked down, realized who it was, and before Kennedy could escape, began kicking him with his polished-but tough-dress shoes. "Ow! Stop it!" the reporter* said, before security was called.

They were about to lead Kennedy away when Windhorst remembered that last time he'd shown mercy towards the reporter. "Make sure he doesn't leave HQ. Take everything electronic off of him until Fitzhugh has signed. We do not want this leaking."

Jacob Prosper, coach of the West Phoenician Confederates baseball team recently said in an interview that he supported West Phoenicia desire to recruit baseball players from other nations.

"To be a first class team we need first class talent. We have alot of talent in West Phoenicia but we should also look outside our borders to find the best pitchers, batters and fielders. We could literally become a powerhouse of unstoppable proportion if we had the best team in the league. I have observed other nations and their are many I would like to poach.

The 9 members of the West Phoenician Baseball Federation were quick in striking down the thought. The Confederates are made up of West Phoenicians, we don't want players of other nations who are not citizens in our ranks.
The West Phoenician baseball league has 50 teams split into 5 divisions. We have a large pool of talent among us and spots that open up on the international baseball team should be filled with West Phoenicians.

Patriotic fans were quick to support the decision of the West Phoenician Baseball Federation, as well players in the National league, who played hard and were filled with fire and dedication, always waiting for their opportunity to try out for the international league.

For now the decision stands that any replacements will come up for the national league, a motion that Coach Prosper is forced to concede in public. He is aware until West Phoenicia wins a major title in the World Baseball Classic, his thoughts of making the team as great as possible are only pipedreams.
A win with him at the helm would certainly carry more weight when he approaches the Federation on changes that should be made.

Let's get right to it shall we?

We haven't seen much from Amalthea 'The Last Unicorn' Beagle this season. That ended on the first game in the Quarterfinals.
Bastion Rogers, Paul Mins and Amalthea 'The Last Unicorn' Beagle got a shutout in the first game. It was amazing to witness.
Stuart 'Super' Nova, Dave 'The King' Haggard got solo home runs in that game. Dan Herpus got an RBI in the 6th.

Second game was relatively less successful in the pitching. But, Rick 'The House/God of Thunder' King and, John Avidan got two double home runs.

Overall, things are looking good for the Unicorns.

Markus Wright was fucking seething.

They'd been close to taking a 1-0 series lead against West Phoenicia, and in a best-of-five, every single game counted. They'd been up 4-3 - a narrow lead, to be fair, but there wasn't much baseball left to play - with two outs and nobody on in the top of the eighth, and West Phoenicia were on their last legs. They'd hit hard early - Justin Zheng hadn't exactly had the game of his life, giving up a run for the first three innings, although he did manage to go three scoreless after that - but the TIgers had stayed close with a run in the first, a run in the third, and then grabbed the lead with runs in the fourth and fifth.

So things had been going fairly well - Zheng had gotten them to the seventh up by one, and reliever Erik Bohr had gotten five crucial outs. But he was starting to waver, walking Navy on five pitches. Mårtensson had anticipated that Bohr couldn't last, and quickly brought in Trevor Gonsalves to face Texas. But the catcher managed a seeing-eye single off of a nasty curveball from Gonsalves, and suddenly there were runners on first and second with two out, and Jason van Dijk was up in the bullpen.

But he wouldn't be needed. Gonsalves recovered quickly, and got two quick strikes against Lukas Towers. His third was even better, a swan-diving sinker that barely nicked the inside corner of the strike zone. Towers, forced to swing, swung and hit a chopper to shortstop. Markus had fielded it cleanly, easily, and thrown to first to end the inning...except his throw was high and wild, and a run scored on the error.

So the game was tied now, 4-4, essentially because Markus had fucked up. With Roberto Debney on the mound to keep the game level, social media was predicting extra innings. It certainly seemed that way - Megan Sjöberg went down swinging, while James Hao could only muster a weak flyout to right, bringing up a pinch-hitter, Victoria Radovic.

But Debney lost control, walking Radovic and bringing up none other than Markus Wright. Determined to atone for his mistakes, Wright swung wildly at the first two pitches, getting into an 0-2 hole - although Radovic managed to steal second on one of the pitches. But he managed to calm down, fouling off a pair of fastballs - either of which could've easily been strike three - and hunkered back down.

Debney came back with a slider - one with a lot of movement - but poorly placed, up in the zone and giving Wright just enough time to react. He whipped the bat around and sent a chopper up the middle.

And it stayed up the middle, skipping past second base for a single. 5-4, Tigers.

(OOC: Fitzhugh and his agent go over the updates in the contract offers)

Endry: We have a few new offers, as well as some updates to the offers we already have.

Fitzhugh: Okay, great. All good things?

Endry: Yes, definitely so.

Fitzhugh: Let's hear it.

Endry: We got three offers from Lycrabon, including one mega-contract for over 400 million NSD.

Fitzhugh: Wow!

Endry: I know, but they have yet to release the details of the deal, other than that it would be a 7 year, $441 million contract, $63 million per year.

Fitzhugh: That is an insane amount of money!

Endry: I know it is. It is almost too good to be true.

Fitzhugh: Which team is that from?

Endry: That is from the Lakeview Mariners. We also got offers from two teams in St. Catherine.

Fitzhugh: How much were those?

Endry: Not nearly as much the others, but they were decent offers. The Blue Jays offered $180 million for 6 years, $30 million per year (not as good), and the Mets offered $280 million for 7 years, $40 million per year (so way more than the Blue Jays). Obviously, if you are going for the money, Lakeview is the most obvious choice of these, but I know that you have other motives, so I am sure you will want to think about it.

Fitzhugh: Yes. Honestly, anything over $40 million per year is more money than I will ever need. I am not just looking for the money, but also a team that is a good fit for me as a player.

Endry: Okay, and speaking of which, I know you were interested in the offer from the New Llama Cyclones.

Fitzhugh: Yes! I was very interested.

Endry: Well, guess what! They made their offer even better. Now, they are offering 6 years and $230 million, $38.3 million per year.

Fitzhugh: Wow... That is amazing. I think they are the team that I am leaning most towards at this point. The other team that I'm still really interested in is the Southport Tigers. Is there any update on their contract?

Endry: No. It is still on the table though.

Fitzhugh: Okay, well it is still a possible option.

Endry: Oh, speaking of which, we have another good offer on the table. Remember that strange offer we got from North Prarie?

Fitzhugh: Yes.

Endry: Well, apparently there was some mistake in the currency exchange in their original offer, but they have now officially offered you $197.5 million for 5 years, $39.5 million per year.

Fitzhugh: Wow, that is another great option. Unfortunately, I do not know much about their nation.

Endry: That's the other thing. They offered you the opportunity to visit their stadium and meet their team and fans.

Fitzhugh: I would like to do that.

Endry: I am sure we can work something out. Also, West Phoenicia's domestic league seems to be stirring, because they just made it legal to sign someone from another country to their league, so I am assuming that they will be putting in an offer or two in the near future. It is something to keep an eye on.

Ryan Halville watched Ducky Fitzhugh and his agent step off their jet at Stonebridge Simbacat International Airport.
"Hey Jeff! Hey Henry! So glad you're here!"
"Hello Ryan. This seems like a great city, I can't wait to see the area."
"Great then! Well, I got my car waiting for us, and we can head downtown! I got you booked at the best hotel in the city."
So Ryan Halville, Henry Endry, and Ducky Fitzhugh got in Ryan's Pompeii Mako, and once they made it off the Valliesta Parkway traffic, they headed onto Waterfront Avenue and to Righteous Island Bridge, or as the locals called it, the Rib.
"So guys, this is Waterfront Avenue. It is probably the most major street in Stonebridge. Famous among North Prarieans for its' skyscrapers, plus probably one of the largest stops on the Stonebridge M (the Stonebridge subway system), Waterfront Station.
Ryan pointed out landmarks along the way, until they finally made it to BayBank Park, home of the Righteous Bay Lions. There, Fitzhugh met some of the stars on the Lions, such as Nawang Gurung, Jordy Bosch, Isreal Mendoza, and Tyler Rose.
"YES!" Ryan thought to himself. "If he accepts, the Lions will be the best team in the league by far! We'll be a dynasty!"
The rest of the trip was a breeze. Jeff and Henry met fans at LionsFest, had dinner with Ryan and his family, reported the hotel 5-stars, and were shown the sights of Stonebridge. They even went to the Stonebridge Derby between Capitol Heights FC and Riverbay United at Colossal Park! This trip had drastically improved the chances of Fitzhugh signing with the Lions.
"This might actually happen." Ryan said after the jet took off back to Schiltzberg.

Backs against the wall

The Blue Jays need a miracle to move on, as they fell twice to Darmen, 5-4 and 7-3. In game two, Grant Delgado got ejected for arguing balls and strikes, and was subsequently arrested for striking the umpire. The Lycrabon manager and bench coach were also tossed in the melee. Delgado has already been ruled out of game three for his actions, and rumors involving him and the Hall of Fame have become cloudy in the interim.

The World Baseball Classic Quarterfinals has begun and it has been a mixed 2 game series.

Scootalove City continues to stamp out any competition that stands in its way of progressing to the finals. The victim this time is Pripet Socialist Republic, who barely put up a fight in game 1 and did fight back in game 2 before Scootalove City hit 2 runs in the top of the 9th.
With more fancy footwork for game 3, there is no doubt that Scootalove will progress to the semi. It would literally be an act of god if they failed at this point.

Schiltzberg Vs Cassadaigua, clash of the titans with Cassadaigua oozing more style and grace in their pitching. While Schiltzberg had a powerful batting style and confidence that the ball would go where they demanded of it. The benefit of these two clashing in the quarter finals is one of these colossal giants will fail to progress. Giving a glimmer of hope that an under dog team will move to the finals and win the series. Schiltzberg does have a fighting spirit, they laid down in game 2 but they are quick to get back up again to live to bat another day.

West Phoenician fans cheered the 2 game victory by Darmen against Lycrabon. While not a fan of either team, Darmen is the team West Phoenician fans support to progress. Many fans have left messages at the West Phoenician Blessing Trees for a Darmen win. hoping to punish Lycrabon for the losses the Confederates suffered in the build up to the round of 16.

The Confederates are neck to neck with Super-Llamaland winning 1 game a piece. West Phoenicia is hoping for a similar outcome to the last time these teams met. The stands were packed as both teams fans were an army of support. The cheering giving both sides the edge they needed to continue the good fight.
The religious West Phoenicia as usual hand on hand priests and priestess of the Goddess Fortuna on hand to bless the game. Thousands of loyal fans have made the trek to the goddess Fortuna shrines to toss a gold coin into her wells of plenty in the hopes that the luck she grants will err on the side of good luck.

OOC: This pre-dates Schiltzberg's latest RP IC-ly - in terms of IC time, it comes right after my last Windhorst RP.

To: Henry Endry
From: David Windhorst, General Manager, New Llama Cyclones

Dear Mr. Endry,

Thank you for your warm response to our previous offer of a five-year, $190 million NSD (NationStates Dollars) contract for the services of your client, Jeff Fitzhugh. After careful consideration, we have opted to modify our offer to a six-year contract worth at least $230 million NSD, the full terms of which are listed below.

Mr. Fitzhugh will receive a total of $230 million NSD over six years. The contract will be front-loaded; Fitzhugh will receive $39 million per year for the first four years of the contract, and $37 million per year for the last two. There will be additional performance bonuses for individual achievements of varying difficulty such as winning the MVP, being selected to the All-Star team, hitting forty home runs in a season, and so on. Team achievements will also lead to bonuses. In total, Mr. Fitzhugh could expect up to an additional $19 million in bonuses over the next six years. Mr. Fitzhugh will also be given a full no-trade clause - the Cyclones will be unable to trade Fitzhugh unless he consents to the deal. Considering what we predict to be six years of success in New Llama City, it's unlikely Fitzhugh will want to leave, and even less likely the Cyclones will want to trade him.

We would like to formally invite your client to visit beautiful Tyler Rocke Stadium in downtown New Llama City. As your client is aware, Tyler Rocke is one of the most well-known stadia in the world, with a history of twenty WBCs and decades of domestic seasons. Both our stadium and our team are symbols of excellence, the former being the site of such famous events like the WBC30 final and the latter being the winningest team in LBL history. We would love for you to come experience both.

Regards,
David Windhorst
GM, New Llama Cyclones

REPORTS: JEFF "DUCKY" FITZHUGH SIGNS $230 MILLION CONTRACT WITH NEW LLAMA CYCLONES

This morning, the New Schiltzbierg Times Sports News received a report from a well-respected source that gives us the final news on the Fitzhugh craze that has been sweeping the baseball world over the past week. It appears that Fitzhugh has signed a six-year, $230 million contract with the New Llama Cyclones of the Llamean Baseball League. This comes as a bit of a shock, since we had heard reports of major contracts of about this amount of money from several other teams across several nations, but we had never gotten any official word about a contract from the New Llama Cyclones, though there was speculation that they would be in the mix.

Our source stated that the club was one of the first clubs to contact Fitzhugh, initially offering a five-year, $190 million contract, and that Fitzhugh really liked the offer to begin with. Apparently, once the market for the center fielder started to pick up, New Llama increased their offer, and this was what sealed the deal. The team did not release any of the information about the contract to the media out of fear that doing so would cause opposing teams to outbid them. Fitzhugh reportedly visited the team yesterday, where he toured their stadium, met some of their players and the management staff, and ultimately signed the deal with the team. According to the report, Fitzhugh was torn between this offer and one other unnamed offer, but he decided that the New Llama team would be his best option. We are speculating that the "unnamed offer" is the five-year, $193 million contract with the Southport Tigers of the Empire of Newmanistan Baseball League that has been leaked out by the Newmanistan newspapers.

It is impressive that the New Llama organization was able to keep their contract out of the newspapers, since this was such a big story in international sports. Nevertheless, our newspaper has been given exclusive access to the final Fitzhugh deal, and we have been told that we will be the first newspaper to report the signing.

There are several obvious reasons why Fitzhugh would want to sign with the Cyclones. They are a very historic team, winning a lot of recent championships, and their team really has a desire to win. On top of this, they play at the beautiful Tyler Rocke Stadium, which is one of the most historic stadiums in all of baseball. The team gave Fitzhugh a great offer, and even though he has reportedly received upwards of $2 billion worth of contract offers over the past week, this one seems to be the best and most suitable for what he was looking for, and it is no doubt that he will fit right in with the rest of the team.

The addition of Fitzhugh to the New Llama Cyclones, which is already arguably the best team in the LBL, will make their team the overwhelming favorite for the President's Cup next season. Fitzhugh is probably the best offensive outfielder right now, and the addition of this offensive powerhouse to an already amazing team will make them almost unbeatable. Expect them to come back next season as the overwhelming favorites to win the championship.

The news of Fitzhugh's signing may come as a disappointment to Schiltzbergian fans, because he will no longer be playing in the NBLS, but with the growing amount of baseball globalization in recent years, where there has been more interleague play, it is likely that Schiltzbergian fans will still get to see him play. Of course, he will still be on the national team as well. This is a big loss for Schiltzberg's domestic league, but it is a wake up call that they have to be willing to pay the big money to their players that their rivaling leagues from other countries are will to pay. We hope that Schiltzberg will not continue to lose its big name players, because that happened to a former Schiltzbergian baseball league called the Schiltzbergian Baseball Association in the 1990s, when players kept leaving the league because they were not paying enough, and this eventually led to the league's collapse in 1997. This loss of Schiltzberg's top offensive player will likely result in procedures taken by the NBLS to try to prevent future departures from star players.

We are proud to be the first newspaper to report on this sports event, and we will release more details as soon as they are provided.

Dangit! Dangit! Dangit! Ryan Halville threw a pen across the room and hit his desk. The New Schlitzberg Sports Times had just reported that Ducky Fitzhugh had signed with the New Llama Cyclones of Super Llamaland. Ryan's team, the Righteous Bay Lions, had been one of tbe frontrunners for Fitzhugh. He thought that the great visit to Stonebridge would tip him our way! Now, he had to find a new elite international player. Newmanistan maybe? Super Llamaland? Northwest Kalactin? Darmen? All he knew was that he had to find a good player, and fast.

Scootalove City vs. Darmen @ BearOil Park, Petrograd, Plymouth, Free Republics (Park Factor: 102)
Cassadaigua vs. Super-Llamaland @ AllMartDome, Reco, Jolarus, Free Republics (Park Factor: 96)

In a sweep, Scootalove City managed to eliminate Pripet Socialist Republic 4-1 in the third game. Props need to go to them for getting this far, but we need to look to the future. BearGrass will be a weird felling on our Unicorns feet and Hooves but it will be very interesting to play on.

The game had it's high points in both pitching and hitting. Steve 'The bat' Gat and Amalthea 'The Last Unicorn' Beagle where both great at pinning down PSR (Pripet Socialist Republic). Alex Tremblay did an ok job at the last three innings, other then that wild pitch Phillip Foster got in the eighth. Phillip Foster scored a home run from that pitch, it was the only scoring run for PSR.

Rick 'The House/God of Thunder' King got an RBI in the Third, and Dave 'The King' Haggard got a three run homer in seventh.

Overall, we have a great shot at winning the Semifinal's this time. Lets keep up the good work Unicorns!

BREAKING: FITZHUGH SIGNS RECORD-BREAKING DEAL WITH CYCLONES
Alyssa Zhao - LSN Sports

NEW LLAMA CITY -- In a shocking new development, General Manager David Windhorst has announced that Schiltzberg outfielder Jeff "Ducky" Fitzhugh, a mainstay of the Schiltzberg national team for the past ten Classics and the former star of the CBC champion Beyren Captains, has signed a six-year, $230 million dollar deal with the New Llama Cyclones. Although rumors of Cyclones interest were common, the complete lack of any confirmation that the Cyclones were in on the Fitzhugh sweepstakes - especially for an organization known for accidentally leaking news - has made the signing even more astounding. Obviously, the $230 million deal has shattered the LBL record for highest contract (previously Lucien Russo's eight-year, $170-million dollar deal).

"We are incredibly pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with free-agent outfielder Jeff Fitzhugh for a six-year, two hundred million dollar contract. Jeff is amongst the all-time greatest outfielders, and his addition to an already competitive team is sure to solidify our position as championship contenders. He's a great fielder, an even better hitter, and a great person, so I would love to warmly welcome him to the Cyclones family," Windhorst said in an earlier statement.

A five-time domestic champion in Schiltzberg, Fitzhugh has had a history of success in the NSBL, even if the LBL is a different task. Last year, the center-fielder slashed a video-game-esque .359/.463/.743, winning his sixth MVP award and being selected to the All-Star team for the fourteenth consecutive season. And despite his age of thirty-four and the grueling reality of 180-game Schiltz seasons, he's been a paragon of durability, starting in more than 170 games every season after his rookie year. Although his age and the size of the contract make this deal quite the risk, he's projected to perform very well for the Cyclones, with GraphsForFans projecting a .355/.459/.750 slash line with forty-three home runs for his first season.

Fitzhugh is expected to bat second - between Hector Rinaldi and Markus Wright, with Carsten Riviera batting cleanup - and play center field next season, although there have been discussions of moving him to right-field in the future if he does slow with age. Even if he does, though, it's hard to envision scenarios where this doesn't work out.

Tara Scott, the manager of the Southport Tigers baseball team, and GM Daniel Holstrom react to the Fitzhugh signing:

Scott: How did he get away?

Holstrom: We never had a chance.

Scott: We should have had a chance. Now he is gone, swept out from under us like Cassadaigua did to his national team.

Holstrom: We never had a counter offer from him. His agent really never negotiated, can't believe it got done so quickly. Business negotations 101: Always counter. You never show your full hand with the first offer.

Scott: Did seem to get over quick.

Holstrom: His loss. At least he did not sign with another ENBL team. If they didn't want to see what our actual negotiation ceiling was, then its his loss. If we upped our deal, the Cyclones probably up theirs. That agent could have got a nice bidding war between two powerful teams in two powerful leagues. Agent cost his client money. Even if Ducky wanted to go to Super-Llamaland the whole time, he would have got more money from the Cyclones by countering with us, and then making the Cyclones respond with a greater offer. Great player, rookie league agent. But like I said, as long as he isn't going to be an opponent.

Scott: We get good press for our pursuit, I suppose.

Holstrom: Yeah, well maybe him and Mallory can play a little golf with one another instead now while Cassadaigua and Super-Llamaland move on.

Schiltzberg Swept Away By Pink Cyclone,
by Katie Jackson, Concord Heights Times

There was a lot of talk over the last few days about the contract situation of Jeff “Ducky” Fitzhugh, an outfielder on the national team of Schiltzberg who is one of the top players in their nation. That goes without saying, obviously, if he is on the national team, but Fitzhugh does possess talents that anyone would love to have on their team. Jeff did not want to wait until after the World Baseball Classic was over to begin serious contract discussions with international teams as he was surely motivated by the opportunity to do something new in his career. This is not anything new, as last year our own Jenna Bailey signed with the Pocono City Capitals of Newmanistan, being one of two big signings by that team. The other was Justin Zheng, the ace of the Super-Llamaland series, so as we look for stories within the series, don’t forget that Bailey and Zheng are actually teammates now at the club level. One thing that we saw with the big signings last year was that all of the players who moved still saw success during the World Baseball Classic.

That didn’t happen for Ducky Fitzhugh, and you have to wonder if he was as focused as he should have been. With two walk off wins and one dominating pitching performance, it is Cassadaigua who moves on, as team Schiltzberg that goes home, seeing their chances destroyed by a cyclone. The first game was a thriller, won by Cassadaigua by the score of 7-6. Schiltzberg had success early in the game, but could never put away our Fillies. Trailing 6-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth, we rallied for a lone run in the 6th and the 8th to tie it, and then won it in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double off the bat of Lexi Carpenter. The bullpen deserves a lot of credit, keeping Schiltzberg off the board further after the fifth inning, including a big strike out of Fitzhugh in the top of the ninth by Kelsie Kaplan, with two outs and a runner on third.

The second game was all about pitching dominance as Ashley Merritt completely shut down the Schiltzberg team. She scattered three hits over the nine innings of work, including getting Fitzhugh each time he came to the plate. It was a needed effort, since key relievers were used in the opening game of the series. Offensively, a three run bomb by Jessica Greene in the 5th put the game away, and had the Dagans up two games to none.

Facing elimination, Fitzhugh was not motivating his team, but instead signing a huge deal with the Cyclones of Super-Llamaland. The press out of Schiltzberg has been pretty quiet since the series, and have not talked much about it, but you have to wonder if they are going to give him a free pass about focusing on himself, and signing this deal with his nation facing elimination; or if they are going to get on his case about it. The third game was a thriller, and while Fitzhugh did not have a bad game, you have to wonder what manager Mathew Stuart thought about this news, at this time. Meanwhile the great strategist, Maddie Polanco, made the right moves as the third game of the series went back and forth with momentum. In the bottom of the ninth, the Dagans could have been forgiven for being frustrated about blowing the 4-3 lead in the top of the inning, but Jenna Bailey showed that Pocono City is rubbing off on her, and led off the inning with a beautifully placed drag bunt down the third base line. After stealing second, the Dagans didn’t win the game with the big blast, just a little small ball. Kenzie Bennett sacrificed her over to third, and the game was won on Cortnie Nicholson’s sacrifice fly.

This sets up the intriguing semifinal series against Super-Llamaland. Team Cassadaigua is led by Maddie Polanco, who calls Super-Llamaland home, and was the bench coach of their World Baseball Classic 40 championship team, and played on other prior teams. Looking to have a team of her own, Polanco jumped on the opportunity to coach another nation with great pedigree, like our Fillies. In the last Classic, she got us to the semifinals as well, and we’ll be back again this time. For Polanco, she knows a lot of the other people in the other dugout, and perhaps that will be helpful for our chances in this series.

NEW LLAMA CITY -- Early reports state that the Tigers will be adding an "IA" patch to commemorate the life of Itamar Arnold, a Darmeni infielder whose tragic murder has yet to be solved, to their uniforms for the semifinals. Laurent Mårtensson has yet to officially comment on the issue, but privately told us that he was incredibly upset at the news. "Nobody deserves this fate; I can only pray for his team, friends, and family, and for the killer to be brought to justice."

Darmen advances to Semifinals as team mourns loss of Itamar Arnold

Darmen defeated Lycrabon in Game Four of the WBC 42 Quarterfinals, advancing to face the Scootalove City Unicorns in the next round. Clemente Lewin pitched seven innings, giving up only a single run and striking out eight batters, while Anthony Crawford's two run home-run in the fourth inning proved to be the game winning play.

Over the four day break between the Quarterfinal and Semifinal rounds, the Darmeni team and those fans who have traveled to the Free Republics will gather for a memorial service in honor of deceased 21 year-old Itamar Arnold, who was gunned down in a parking garage late at night for unknown reasons. The Royal BC corner-baseman had seen only limited playing time during the group stage of the competition, but is highly regarded by his teammates as a kindhearted young man who made those around him smile with his extraordinary sense of humor.

Following the memorial service, Arnold's body will be returned to Darmen, where a private funeral for family only will be held before he is laid to rest. Meanwhile, Free Republican and Darmeni Department of Foreign Affairs officials continue to investigate Arnold's murder. No leads have as yet presented themselves and investigators have yet to find a motive for the murder.

Arnold's death has been largely overshadowed in the foreign media by the signing of Schiltzberger Ducky Fitzhugh to a $230 million dollar contract with the New Llama Cyclones.
