The World Twenty20 Championship X

Welcome to the Kingdom of Banija! The nation, and specifically, the Busoga Islands, are excited to be host to one of cricket's most prestigious events- the World Twenty20 Championships. And especially excited to be hosting the 10th edition of this tournament.

New to NS Sports?
Guide to Sports Roleplaying

Format
We have 25 teams in this tournament! We will have 5 groups of 5, with the top two in each group advancing to the Divisional Round. Each group will be a single round robin. From there, we will have a seeded draw(seeds based on standings from the group stages) for the Division Round. Like the Super 10 format adopted IRL, it will consist of two 5 team divisions. The top two teams from each division will meet in the semifinals, with the winner of Division A playing the runner-up of Division B, and the winner of Division B playing the runner-up of Division A. The two match winners will then meet in the final, while the semifinal match losers will meet in the 3rd place match.

National Information

The Kingdom of Banija is a country that classifies itself as a semi-constitutional monarchy. A nation that is freshly a member of Atlantian Oceania, it is led by the Kabaka(which translates to King), and the current monarch is Kabaka Albert III. The Kabaka, alongside with the Waziri(translates to Foreign Minister), whom he picks and dismisses solely at his pleasure, is the Head of State and responsible for the country's foreign affairs.

The Lukiiko(translates to Parliament) is a democratically-elected, constituency-based, first past the post, legislature that has the power of the purse and controls all legislative affairs for the country. The Lukiiko, every term, elects the Katikkiro(Prime Minister), who picks a cabinet and leads the government. Racially, the nation is 93.2% black. This is a very religious based Christian nation, as 87% of Banijans are affiliated with the state church, the Puritan Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, whose followers are called Puritan Mormons. Shia Islam is the next largest religious community at 9% of the national population. The Guardian Council, a council of 6 members, with 3 picked by the Kabaka from the House of Katende(the royal house), and 3 picked by the Church, has the ability to oppose laws based on religious grounds. It takes a 5-1 majority on the Guardian Council to reject any bill passed by the Lukiiko.

87% of Banijans are Puritan Mormons, which is the officIal religion of the nation. However, as mentioned in our bid, the entire tournament is being hosted in one region of Banija- the Busoga Islands. The Busoga Islands are a completely different animal culturally from the rest of Banija. While the mainland is generally all black Puritan Mormons, those from the islands are ethnically Arab and Persian, and the majority religion is Shia Muslim. Due to being a region in a Puritan Mormon country, Islamic law is generally not enforced by the state. However, while Puritan Mormons drink, Banijan Shia do not. While it is perfectly legal to bring in alcohol on planes, you will generally not find bars that serve alcohol- not because it is illegal, but simply because there is no market.

This is the first major international event on the Busoga Islands. The World Bowl and the World Lacrosse Championships were both events that were held entirely on the mainland, and this angered many Busogans. Now, of course, this is one of the poorer regions of a 3rd world country. Six cities have been selected to host games- 3 on the South Island, and three on the North Island. These are the six biggest cities on the islands. Dukuma Regional Airport was recently upgraded by the Aviation Authority of Banija to an international airport, so that fans could fly directly onto the islands for the month before the tournament, the duration of the tournament, and the month after the tournament, without having to land in Istria first. This is so fans of Twenty20 and officials, teams, administrators, and whoever else, can fly directly onto the islands, which you normally cannot do.

Dukuma Regional Airport is on the North Island, and Lakiska Regional Airport was just built by the Busogan Regional Airport, a small airport but one built for the purposes of being able to fly from the North to the South Island and vice versa. Generally, the most common form of transportation between the islands, separated by just 3 miles, is the RTC ferry. Operated by the Regional Transit Corporation, a massive Banijan company located in Rosaria, Eshan, they operate 3 ferries a day, all day, so that there is essentially always boats coming and going. For the tournament, the RTC confirmed that they would spend the money to operate 5 per day, so that it would be easier for tourists to travel who did not want to fly.

Proposals went to the regional legislature to build a bridge between the islands, since they are close enough to have a bridge that can be driven across, if built by a foreign company. The Regional Transit Corporation, however, launched a massive public transportation campaign against this bridge, saying that it was unnecessary since 'nobody has cars on the islands' - 10% of adults in Banija own cars, and that number drops to 8% on the islands- and that it would be the perfect example of a white elephant. Convenient for the tournament, but once the tournament is gone, it would slowly rot. They, of course, have business interests in no competition to their ferry service, but that was never mentioned, and they won out in the regional legislative debate.

Stadia

Beirut City Park

Capacity of 31,000, located in Beirut, North Island

Beirut City Park is located in a city of 65,000. Beirut, on the North Island, is the northernmost city on the islands, also operating as a port city. It will, of course, play host to all of the Banijan group stage matches. While there were arguments on whether or not the Banijan cricket team could travel, significant operating costs for the body and the regional government were saved in limiting the travel. Why Beirut to host Group A? Beirut is considered to be the most international city within the region. Home to many foreigners and tourists, it is the richest city on the islands. The upper-class feel means that the stadium will almost always fill, but there will be a definite lack of noise in the venue.

Jaribga's cricket ground is sponsored by the Regional Transit Corporation. The city is the port on the South Island where they operate their ferry from to and fro the North Island, and it is the third largest city on the islands, with a population of 250,000 people.

Tezirbu is the city where the Regional Transit Corporation operates its ferry from on the North Island, and they make a ton of money with the Tezirbu to Dukuma bus route- an hour and a half bus ride, and it is said to be their 'most profitable bus route in Banija'. Due to their interests here, they invest a lot in this city, including, of course, with sponsorship of the stadium.

Capacity of 23,000, located in Tripoli, North Island

Tripoli is the only city out of the six host cities that is not on the coast. They are located within the dead center of the North Island. How, then, did this city of 150,000 become a city major enough to host a World Twenty20 Championship match? Well, simply put, here is why- this is a historic city. The oldest city on the islands, this city is celebrating their 1,000th anniversary of their establishment during this tournament. Before the island's mass conversion to Islam, native Busogan religions believed that the Gods visited earth in this city. Due to that ancient history, this has always held a special place in the hearts of Banijans.

The South Island city of Nezrouch. Originally planned to be the capitol of the Busoga Islands when it was formally incorporated into the Kingdom of Banija after the second Quebecois colonization, plans to finish new governmental offices were never finished and were shelved after the government ran out of cash. The city of 80,000 had this stadium built specifically to host games, after fears that the governing body would only have 5 stadiums rather than go to Nezrouch.

Kabaka's Cricket Ground
Image
Capacity of 54,000, located in Lakiska, South Island

This is easily the most controversially named stadium in the tournament. Lakiska is the second largest city on the islands, home to 394,000 people. It is also the capitol of the region, where the legislature resides and where the Governor and the regional governmental offices are housed. This stadium was formerly named the Lakiska City Cricket Park- but the name was changed for the purposes of the tournament. Many Busogans expressed frustration at this, but this order was said to come 'from the top'- rumors are that the Kabaka himself wanted this to happen.

The former Lakiska City Cricket Park, or the Kabaka's Cricket Ground, as we must call it for the duration of this tournament, is the oldest cricket ground in the country. Built while Banija was still a colony of the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, it is known as the 'spiritual home' of Busogan cricket.

Dukuma Oval
Image
Capacity of 63,000, located in Dukuma, North Island

The city of Dukuma is the largest city on the North Island, and the largest city in Banija. It is home to the holiest site of Islam in Banija, the al-Jami mosque. It was built on the point where Muslim missionaries first reached the Islands. Home to 412,000 people, Dukuma is a city that has an outsized importance. It is Banija's second busiest port city, after Istria, and is generally known as the cultural capitol of the islands. Dukuma houses the governing body of Banijan cricket, and it will house the administrative offices required for this tournament.

Even with the largest stadium, it has been decided that it will not host group stage matches. This is so "the whole region" can benefit from this tournament, so people visit places other than its major city.

Jhalpharezi has two players on the roster listed as opening batsmen. The first was Megh Naidu. He was one of the most confident batters in the small nation on the East of the Indian subcontinent. Megh is just coming down from the peak of his career, fighting back from a minor injury which threatens to slow him down.

Swapnil Ghosemajumder is another top Jhal batsman. He has some of the best timing and footwork in Jhalpharezi. He's bold enough to face top bowlers, but started playing as a bowler. Along with Naidu, Swapnil and a few others represent the 'Old Guard' of Jhal cricket. They are the stars of last seven years. A group which never saw international competition.

This team is about the new wave though. There are a few young standouts who hope to carry Jhal cricket to the next level. One of which is Harsha Datta. The northerner from Bakati is still working on his footwork, but his coach feels he has the right mindset to go far.

"Harsha is always rearing to go. He's confident. He asks lots of questions on how he can improve", said the national team's batting coach, Devdas Kabir. "He just needs to focus and flex his knees."

Datta showed enough consistency on the bat during the All-India Cricket Blast to help the national team, known as the Jhalpharezi Spice, win the Championship.

"If it's one thing us Indians are passionate about", Datta said, "it's our cricket. I'm glad to be a part of our sporting history."

The Spice are still refining their bowlers. The team is in the development stage, as far as the world level is concerned.

Vikrant Azam is the team's most promising bowler. He's still young but has the mature mindset of a veteran. He's a student of the game and was another integral piece to the team's latest AICB Championship.

With so many of the multiverse's top teams joining the 10th edition, the Spice hope to build their brand across India and the world. They believe they are a team of tomorrow and hope to convince the global audience. They also hope to make an exciting run while entertaining fans every matchday. They face tough odds with two top 10 teams in their group.

Cricket is a fairly new sport to Elejamie, with the first match on Elejamian soil being played in 1960. However, it wasn't until 1967 that an official national side was formed and 1974 when the first domestic match was played, between Aventry and Surter, with Aventry winning by seven wickets. In 1987, a small limited-overs cricket tournament - the Cross-Tractal Cup - was played, with Wyken winning all of their group games against East Reise, Nuevo Paraíso and Mittedorf before beating Aventry in the semi-final and Autumnia in the final (Autumnia would later go on to win the 1989 edition). Three more editions were played before the tournament was cancelled in 1991 for unknown reasons, with West Reise (who had won the trophy in 1988 and 1990) being allowed to keep it.

However, despite its short run, it still managed to draw a considerable amount of fans and, after plenty of delays, the Elejamian Cricket League - a Twenty20 tournament - was formed in 2005. Beginning on the third Saturday in April, the tournament sees eighteen teams (the only tracts not taking part in the tournament are Valledorado and the Elephant Isles, although cricket clubs have been established in both tracts during the off-season and they've announced that they'll be ready to join by 2019 earliest), split into two groups of nine depending on whether they're on the Eastern or Western half. After playing each other once, the top four in each group then advance to another two groups (again, depending on whether or not they're on the Eastern or Western sides) where they'll play each other twice, home and away. The winners of each group would then face each other in the Grand Final, whereas both runners-up will compete for the Bronze Cup; both matches are played best of five. Aventry (who plays in the Eastern Group) won the inaugural tournament, losing their first two games but going on to win their series against neighbours Burnett (who play in the Western Group) 3-2; Keene District won the Bronze Cup thanks to a 3-1 series win over Rosetta. Currently, Rosetta are the ECL champions, winning their second Grand Finals series in a row against Western Group Champions Surter 3-1, whereas Wyken reverse swept Aventry 3-2 to take home the Bronze Cup. A women's edition of the tournament began in 2012, with Mittedorf winning the Grand Final, where they swept Birch State, whereas Autumnia beat Swannings 3-2 to win the Bronze Cup; the current EWCL champions are Swannings after they swept Nueva Paraíso, whereas Keene District are current Bronze Cup holders following a 3-1 series win against Eastern Elejamie.

Elejamie are not only the current T20 champions but are also ranked number one. Going into the tournament as the tenth-best team in the tournament, they grabbed a couple of easy wins against Desertfoxenland and Eastfield Lodge before just narrowly beating out Spaam in their third group stage game. After a tough game against Mattijana which saw them through to the next round with only one game left to go (as well as the only team at that point to have qualified for the Super Eights), they rounded off their perfect group stage with a win over Grand Angland. They also had a whale of a time in the Super Eights, from Robert Hamilton scoring a century in the opening game against Ethane and a second win over Mattijana to domination over the Kiaser Colonies (beating their score of 102/5 in 11.4 overs) and an excellent innings in their game against the Natanians and Nosts. However, it wasn't all smooth sailing as their only loss in the tournament came in their [first] game against Liventia, where the Greenblacks lost by 12 runs. After a tough rematch against N&N that saw Elejamie narrowly win with half an over to spare, they were up against Liventia in the final. Although given a tough score to beat (185/3 after 20 overs), the Greenblacks managed to push through and, eventually, a six from captain Danny Slezinger was enough to give Elejamie the title. Not bad for a team made up entirely of semi-professionals.

Don't kill any of my players. If you do want to injure any of them, then you can only injure one of them per game and they can miss up to two games (meaning you can't do anything career-ending). Other than that, go nuts.

Hopefully this is alright. Any problems with this, please let me know so I can go back and take out, change or put in anything that needs to be done.

Also, full names for most of my players are listed here. Except for those without middle names, the other players' full names are: David George Garner and Franklin Stephen Karel Kaderabek

Mattijanan Roster

The Mattijana Cricket Federation (MKB) presents its team for the 9th T20 Championships and the third involving a Mattijanan side. Having co-hosted the tournament two years ago, the side pushed on in Damukuni, reaching the super-8s, but finishing only 7th.
Dominik Maestri's team are now 10th in the world rankings and have their sights set on getting even higher.

Colours: Light green with light yellow trim around lower body and arms.

Cricket In Mattijana:

The sport of cricket (or Krickete in Mattijanan) is a well established favourite in Mattijana, with a variety of leagues, climates and idyllic locations making it a fans favourite. The vast size and therefore massive range of climates in Mattijana mean all kinds of players can be successfully developed, with the warm and dry south and south-east a spinner's paradise, and the wetter centre North and West a rewarding location for swing and seam bowling.

The Mattijanan league system has three sections, for 5 day, one day and Twenty 20 Cricket, in which the 5-day tournament contains teams named after their region, whilst one day teams are purely city based, but generally use the same stadiums and training facilities as their regional counterparts.

Head Coach: Dominik Maestri
A former batsman for Petrovijanka KK, Dominik Maestri retired at the age of 38 and moved straight into coaching, becoming the batting specialist for the under 21 side at the same club. Following success for the team in the domestic Under 21 T20 championships, Maestri was promoted to batting coach of the first team and then head coach 4 years later. He spent 5 years as head coach of Petrovijanka KB, winning 2 T20 domestic titles as well as a 5 day title.
After finishing his 5th season, he was offered the International job and began his preparation for the T20 championships.

Players:

Mattijana has put out a mixture of experience and youth for the competition. Opening batsmen, Julian Illicič and Katarina Sava are old hands in the domestic league whilst the middle order contains some up-and coming powerhouses who are no strangers to hitting the ball high into the stands, or in the case of popular seaside ground Stadijo Ižola, onto the beach.
All rounder, Fredi Gluckspiel is one to watch in the side. When on form, he is virtually unstoppable with both bat and ball, but due to his mercurial nature, he has earned himself the nickname "Glucksmann" (man of luck). In any case, you never know what you're going to get.
The bowling attack is geared mainly towards the lush and temperate climate in most of the country which rewards good swing and seam bowling. Although not in abundance throughout the country, there are sufficient spinners to bolster the attack in drier areas such as Puljanka, and in the pitch in Matbirjke, which is less grown up due to its position in the mountains. Mattias Karamov leads the attack with some good seam variations and swing bowling and is joined by Kasenka Riegler, the zippier of the opening pair. The openers are backed up by some more good variable seam bowling from Daniella Johanovic and off-spin from Mattias Googlov with all rounder Fredi Glukspiel's pace providing another option. In addition, Marko Zackov can provide some part-time leg-spin, but is only called on in the case of injury or abject failure by one of the front-line bowlers.
Unpredictability is the key to the bowling performances from Mattijana. Different seam positions, lengths and pacers are used regularly to outfox opposition batters and makes up for a deficiency in outright pace.

Captain: Mattias Karamov (seam bowler).

Bowling attack, in order of use: Sean Finney, Jonathan Adams, Ruiridh MacMaster, Daniel Quinn, Ollie Kerr, any other bowler playing, any other all-rounder playing, Dylan Hennessey or Garland Goudreau as a last resort. Note that SV Finney and Adams are Liventia's death bowlers.

Liventia will make use of their single DRS review only in the following circumstances:
- If it is an obvious error by the on-field umpire; or if it is not, the following apply:
- If the batsman involved has scored at least 35; or
- There are fewer than three overs left; or
- If that batsman involved is a recognised batsman and only the tail (Adams/Quinn) are left.

If you RP first and create a scorecard, I ask that you also do one for my side. Please don't kill any of my players, and serious injuries should be discussed with me beforehand. Retired hurts are fine, within reason.

General Expectations of LCB about Cricket in Lisander (and Alice Bay)
and The World Twenty20 Championship X General Information

LCB, the cricket board ruling the two Imperan main nations, is working on a daily basis to ensure cricket in Lisander and Alice Bay comply required standards for Test status recently acquired. In the last events, there was moderate success, with Linville Lions winning the Champions League T20. The Test season, with variable results against The Kiaser Colonies and Apox, was a vital point to define the policies LCB will enforce in the next seasons. And these policies enter into action starting from WorldT20 X.

The first step is: Forget completely the fiasco in the last edition. The players who went on strike (even being amateurs) was expelled from the national team, that was completely reset back to 1904. The names you will see in the field are the recently LCB-contracted players for Test and Limited Overs (Numbers 105 to 120, view note below), as previously defined by the LCB. These guys will enter the Banijan fields with the duty of at least winning more than losing, even with the season wear.

REGARDING TEST NUMBERS

Resetting the cricket back to 1904 (immediately before the Alicean Declaration of Sovereignity) Before the independence of Alice Bay, Alicean-born players like Adam Hilliard (#36) Gregory Cumberbatch (#73), Brandon Stoker (#94) made history playing for Lisander. The last player awarded a cap by the Board before Alicean Declaration of Sovereignity was Julio Gassi (played June 1904 Test against Ariannin). In posterior research, was noticed that Gassi were the 104th player representing Lisander in a Test. And with the return of Alice Bay to LCB, the numbers come back to count from 105 with the team that disputed to GCF Test Season 8.

THE ROSTER

The list of central contracts for the season features the sixteen names entered for GCF Test Season 8, which will also be the team for 10th GCF World Twenty20. For the next season of contracts, LCB intends to split the Test contracts from the T20 contracts for a specialization.

Different Times: Why Is Cricket So Popular In Mattijana?

T20 World Cup, 29th January to 13th February

The history of Cricket in Mattijana is a unique, fascinating and often counter-intuitive one. A favourite of the multiverse's upper-classes around 200 years ago, the Mattijanan aristocracy also took up the sport, not because of foreign visitors teaching them the game, but simply because they were looking for a new status sport, it looked like fun and they needed something to do in the daytime.

Hence the city of Puljanka, the residence of many of the country's elite, became the central point for Mattijanan Cricket. Without foreign influence, Mattijanan players began to add their own spin to the rules. Pitches were 2 metres longer than the modern standard, overs lasted 8 balls rather than 6 and instead of the test match maximum of 5 days, some matches were played over 4 innings and could last, according to reports from the time, between 7 and 15 days.

If that wasn't wacky enough, the established rules were often added to by a raft of attempted rule changes. Julian Andianov, a bowler, tired of seeing his medium pace edged through the slips for four runs, decided that a batsman should only be able to score runs in front of square. This rule was written off however when Andreas Marianov, a wannabe batsman, realised that this would stop him from scoring all but a few runs. As in this case, disagreements over rules were generally settled by who had the highest social status, rather than who had the most logical argument.
This idea led to different regions, dominated by different posh people, having different rules. Those were generally decided by the top-ranking player and meant that games between teams from different regions often began with an argument about which edition of the rules should be applied.
Mercifully, the rapid change to more progressive and liberal values around 100 years ago also brought welcome change to the game of cricket. With the emerging middle classes searching for a more sophisticated sport to rival the current favourite of Field Hockey, many of the old quirks were abandoned in favour of a more modern sport.
Cricket seemed to fit the bill for a more outward looking society and with the fading of the previously dominant aristocracy, the international standards were adopted by the majority of new teams in the country.
Fast forward to the present day and the reforms introduced nearly a century ago have led to a well-developed Cricketing infrastructure developing in the country. Some codes of the vintage game, known as AltesKrickete, are played in parts of the country, but the modern form dominates and has increasingly leaned towards shorter formats of the game. The developments have also allowed different regions to forget their previous differences and unite towards a good-quality national side.

So why do Mattijanans now love a sport that has its roots in the darker days of the Mattijanan aristocracy?

The sport itself is of course a factor. It combines beautiful batting, quick bowling, high mental intensity and has a variety of subtleties including the effects of pitch, different bowling styles and even different styles of delivery. The simple idea of hitting ball with bat gets you interested and the seemingly endless array of variations and tactics gets you hooked.

Then there's the way a setting can effect a game. At molecular level, the amounts of water and makeup of ball and pitch can have a huge effect on the bowling styles suited and how responsive a pitch can be. At a greater level, the stadium and region can provide an incredible backdrop to events. The ground in Izola on the Mattijanan south coast is the most notable example. The stadium is situated on a natural island with a cliff one side and a beach the other side of the ground. The stadia in Burges, Petrovijanka and Puljanka also have their charm.
In a big nation, showing your regional flair is important to Mattijanans and what better way to do that than not only having your own stadium, but your own pitches and distinct playing style.

Of course everything is better with a decent national team as well though. Mattijana made their Cricketing debut at their own co-hosted tournament at the 8th World T20, capturing the hearts and the imagination of the nation's people. Whilst Cricket was popular before the first appearance of a Mattijanan team. The sport's profile has been further boosted by the arrival of power-batsmen in the form of Julian Illicic, Katarina Sava and Jasmina Benzeni, mercurial all-rounders like Fredi Glukspiel and Dominika Smitek and skilful, spectacular but wily bowling from Mattias Karamov, Kasenka Riegler and Mattias Googlov.

Cricket in Mattijana still has a little way to go before it achieves world domination, but the love for the sport, makings of a team and incredible infrastructure are all in place.
The socialist republic of Mattijana:
As if Austria, Slovenia, North-Eastern Europe and Sweden were merged together into some weird stew of a country.
through resilience, we are strong!

Cricket will always been seen in West Phoenicia as a sport of the Aristocracy. In days gone by Cricket was all the rage on a Saturday at the country clubs, watched by wives, children and mistresses the men would play against servants and slaves.

Fast forward and cricket is just not relevant to West Phoenicia on an international level. While the Women's cricket team placed second as a Demostration sport at the Kelssek and Vekiyu Summer Olympic Games the men have not had as much luck.

At the Olympics they failed to progress passed stage 1 only winning one game and at the last World20 Championships they failed to also progress after narrowly missing out. While they are sitting in 9th spot in the rankings there is no promise they will climb higher.

Outside of the country club set it is just not a popular sport. Baseball, Water Polo, Archery are the hard hitters. And West Phoenicia has had some success at the last Summer and Winter Games which has drawn in millions of fans.

West Phoenicia fans go where the winning is and with their horrible stats they are not building up a fan base that will ensure their survival. With pressure to win or face cutting of funds due to lack of sponsorship The Lightning Bolts will have to pull out all stops to not vastly improve to draw in the fans and sponsors.

25 Nations, but only one winner. That's not the case for the Indian nations from the region of India. These 4 nations Azadeshia, Northwest Kalctin, New Doltania, and Jhalpharezi are here to represent the region of India, but will they succeed?

Azadeshia Yet Again A Group Of Death

Our luck is always bad, this is the first time we will play in this tournament and we are already in a group of death. These are in the Group with our nation.

Group C
Liventia (2)
West Phoenicia (9)
Natanians and Nosts (14)
Lisander (25)
Azadeshia (UR)

Liventia: They are second in T20 rankings!Do you even think we will beat them.

West Phoencia: HOW MUCH WORSE THIS CAN GET!

Natanian and Nosts: Well, we kind of have a chance, but not sure.

Lisander: I do know that these guys are better at Rugby, but I am not sure for cricket.I think this match will be more interesting.

Ok done for cricket today, see you next time!

OOC: Sorry not that creative today.

About the Team
The starting XI has three changes made to it from that one which played Test cricket last against Lisander, with Jo Frost returning to the line-up as a T20 specialist, while young Keswick Dhawa takes Tara Kakketa's place. At the top of the order, coach Chris Benthron has gone for more batting firepower and Trinity Southwold comes into the side to replace Jeff Zanzala who is a specialist long form player of the game. This leaves a batting line-up with a good mix of fast scoring shot players (Southwold, Washington, Arrowsmith, Girard to an extent) and players who can anchor down an end (captain Muldoney, Bryton, Jessop) as well as plenty of run potential from Anyi Metrophanes in the tail. Roy Hamilton-Randall is the team's best bowler so will carry a lot of the burden, especially with Jo Frost and Keswick Dhawa starting the first match.

You know you are playing against West Phoenicia if among their support staff not is their only Coaches, Physiotherapists and dietitians but members of the clergy.

West Phoenicia has a strong Christian faith in the True Path, however is also hosts a huge pantheon of gods, goddess and animal deities.

The Lightnings are no exception, among their support staff are a priest and priestess of Fortuna. The West Phoenician goddess of Good Luck.

Before the coin toss at the 17 May Cricket Ground in Triploi; Banija the priest and priestess prayed over the cricket ground before burning incense around the wickets.

Did this bring good luck to Team West Phoenicia?

According to team coach Edward Mount-Alexander along with the hard pre-season training that he put his team through having representatives of the Goddess Fortuna could only bless the team more abundantly.

For their first match West Phoenicia came up against Azadeshia, a new and unranked team. WIth the men's cricket team put on notice the Lightning Bolts stuck out against the new team playing a fierce dominant aggressive game that saw West Phoenicia come out on top with a result of 141/5 to
Azadeshia 118/7.

Everyone should play like Saulo D'Amisso

Thanks to Lincoln Porteous and Saulo D'Amisso, we managed a hard-fought victory yesterday against Natanians and Nosts. The Alicean Veteran and the Lisanderian third batter managed to score nearly half of the runs of the "two nations team". Amisso, that entered after only one over, when Ali Farnell, in an awful day, was caught out by Álvares. You should imagine the frustration One over and One out.

But Amisso was in a good day, and survived to the bowls of Ion Ionescu and Leandro Varro and to the dismissals of Keenan, Lihou and Hagen, being sent off by a Leg Before Wicket. Porteous entered after Zaid and fought bravely until the end. The game was very hard.

At 19.4, Lisander had 141-8, and Mason Mustar was at bat. Ramsbottom at the bowl and BAM! A missed. Ramsbottom hit the wicket! Mustar out, just two balls left, and Kendall, the last batter, entering the field. Ball back to the Natanian Bowler. When he delivers, a nice ball, bouncing not that close, Kendall hits and run like a wacko. 142-9, one ball left, two runs needed. What a game! Porteous back to the bat. Ramsbottom delivers, and he hits a long ground ball and starts running for 143, but the ball stopped lovingly within five inches of the foam barrier, fortunately, after hitting it. 146-9. Euphoria took over. The players invaded the oval, celebrating the first victory of the team of the "two nations" in the World T20.

Lisander have a bye in Matchday 2, coming back to the Tezirbu Regional Transit Cricket Park Oval only im MD3 against Azadeshia, an unranked team, easily defeated by West Phoenicia in the MD1. Another win is expected, but will be probably as close as this one.

Consistency Carries Jhalpharezi

The Jhalpharezi Spice started their international T20 campaign with a match against 8th ranked United States of Devonta. The national team from the eastern corner of the Indian region come into the tournament as the champions of the All-India Cricket Blast. With the impressive following of fans across India, the AICB may have been a smaller market tournament internationally, but the event still brought lots of fans and regional pride.

The World T20 Championship is much more refined than the AICB, with teams playing a more focused style. World T20 teams also tend to have more experience playing together on the national level. The Spice still have plenty of rivalries carrying over from the domestic season. Chemistry is always an issue with sports and teams.

The Spice seemed to come together nicely for Match 1. Experience picked up in the regional tournament seemed to help the team gel. Timely fielding had players catching outs instead of allowing runs. It wasn't an easy day in the field, however. Devonta found ways to get the striker running between the wickets for runs.

Aupinder Dhindawal had an exceptional day in the field, showcasing a strong arm which helped snatch a few runs away from Devonta.

Bowling wasn't a strong point for the Spice tonight. They would allow 203 runs and would take 2 wickets. Jhalpharezi would score 207 runs and would give up 6 wickets. "For as many runs as we gave up", said Bowler Rajindar Pandher, "we clamped down as much as we needed to secure the win. This was the toughest game I've ever bowled. Things can only get tougher from here."

Consistent batting helped Jhalpharezi pull away with the narrow victory. Harsha Datta led scoring with 50 runs. He had 2 x 4's and 2 x 6's. He was also thrown 60 balls.

The Spice hope to keep momentum on their side after a fine early start. West Bengal's jewel will hope to score as many points as they can this season, to help them secure a foothold in the rankings.

Les mousquetaires
The Juvenisien Cricket Federation presents the "Les mousquetaires", the Juvenisien national cricket team

Cricket's not been as popular as other sports in mainland Juvenis, however the more you go to the islands of the country, the more you realise how popular a sport it really is,
at least to the small island population. "Les mousquetaires" is the team that managed to win the island chains domestic cricket tournament last season, so all players playing for that team transitioned into the national team. Something really formidable about this squad is that it is mostly consisting of left handed players.

The batters:
Ludovic Patenaude (Left handed) (Age 25)
Isidore Descoteaux (Left handed) (Age 30)
Timothée Bonnet (Left handed) (Age 20)
Michaël Fortier (Right handed) (Age 31)
Mathieu Poulin (Right handed) (Age 23)

The all-rounders:
Martin Paris
Ambroise Travers

The wicket keepers:
Noël Victor (Left handed batting) (Age 31)
Frédéric Duval (Left handed batting) (Age 30)
Aldric D'aramitz (Right handed batting) (Age 25)

The bowlers:
Martin Faucher (Left handed / spinner) (Age 34)
Gabin Blaise (Left handed / seamer) (Age 28)
Geoffroy Sergeant (Left handed / seamer) (Age 24)
Ambroise Linville (Right handed / spinner) (Age 20)
Cédric Robert (Right handed / spinner) (Age 22)

Les entraineurs:
Prudence Jordan (Age 65)
David Linville (Age 40)

RP Info:
Do anything except injuring or killing my players you know. Style modifier, if applicable is +1. Les mousquetaires' attires only include the red and white stripes on my flag.Good luck in this tournament!
