Well... Maria fights in a few Olympic fight styles.. She may study Taekwondo as well, not sure. She also might do Judo or other grappling fight styles. In that case, she could try to close the distance or take the fight off the ground.

Anybody who only does a striking style of martial art would be at a disadvantage with takedowns and the ground game. Both can be just as important, especially combined.
