Consul Nicholls and Consul Bolton Must Call on the Lunian League to Crush the Rebellion
by: Sue Reynolds

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past year, you are undoubtedly aware that 32 Republics controlled by Progressives have chosen to secede from the Federation and inaugurate civil war. Apparently, these Progressives must have looked at the opinion polls that showed their party collapsing into irrelevance after one of them ran over 5 peaceful counter-protesters at the "Unite the Left" rally in Goldberg, Nejax, including Jurgen Eberhardt, the ace of the University of Nejax baseball team. While there was no loss of life on this day, all 5 were severely injured. This set off a national wave of left-wing domestic terrorism. When the Consuls signed the Stop Aggressive Violent Extremism (SAVE) Act, granting the Federation Investigation Bureau extraordinary counter-terrorism powers to stop the violence and protect public safety, 32 Republics immediately announced their intention to leave the Federation. At first, the Consuls were willing to let them go their separate ways but after the so-called "Confederacy of Leftist Republics" (CLR) began sponsoring a campaign of terror against the Free Republics, they were left with no choice but to treat this as an illegal insurrection rather than a lawful secession.

Now that those of you who've been living under a rock are aware of the backstory, let's move on to the real question at hand. The current counter-Rebellion strategy simply isn't working. The Republican armed forces have simply proven overmatched against a rebellion that has clearly been in the planning stages for a long time. Our military is poorly trained and ill-equipped. General Florismart Jette is doing his best with the hand he has been dealt but the reality is that our armed forces were severely weakened under the incompetent rule of Consul Kulseth and Consul O'Reilly, both of whom were responsible for driving our best men out of the armed forces and for making changes to how our soldiers are trained that have crippled our armed forces. This much has become apparent over the past few months but it should have been apparent years ago when the military under Kulseth the Mad actually managed to lose a war we should have won easily.

And if you think the Republican Army is in bad shape, well Republica's Navy is in even worse shape. After years of being used as Rule Theriault's personal bodyguards, allowing the soccer coach and his team to break foreign laws with impunity, the Navy is totally unprepared to fight any actual war. The most striking evidence of this lies in the fact that the Rebellion has sunk 47 Republica's Navy ships in the past 3 months while Republica's Navy has failed to sink even a single rebel vessel. The Air Force isn't exactly doing any better. When their planes aren't colliding with each other in mid-air, they are hitting trees and being shot straight out of the sky by rebel fighter pilots. We aren't simply failing to make progress toward victory in this civil war. We are losing the war. Our brave men and women in uniform are being slaughtered on a daily basis.

If we want to win the war, there is only one solution. We must immediately call upon our Lunian League allies to assist us in crushing the rebellion. In addition, we must temporarily place our armed forces under Lunian League command and we must secure the assistance of the Nordernian military in retraining our troops in proper military tactics. Otherwise, we will lose our freedom and we will be enslaved by the collectivist rebels.

Sue Reynolds is a former Assembly aide. After her boss lost his seat during the year that Consul Piazza was elected, she decided to seek out a new career as an opinion columnist. After working for a local paper in a small town in Malifornia for a few years, she was discovered by the Republica Post and hired to write a nationally syndicated opinion column.

Northwest kalactanian players are now in their hotel with pizza watching highlights from many opponents in their group
"well saint kayne is a good team" exclaimed point guard Ross Wilson who was a starter
"but if we can find their weaknesses in these game lips we can counter their game plan and win the game" said Josh Guidry
"Well it doesn't look like they have very many weaknesses"
"They've dominated their opponents in IBC 23"
"They did win IBC 23 though"
The northwest kalactanian players sat there wondering how they would win games and their group…

First Ever Eshan National Basketball Team Roster

Coach

Jean Edward Bonaventura (Rosaria Royals)
Age: 36 years old
The extremely tactically smart coach of the Rosaria Royals, Jean Bonaventura was the man chosen to take the helm of the first ever Echani national basketball team. Perhaps influenced by his youth, Aleix is known for preferring a very free flowing offensive game where the player’s instincts and innate abilities are trusted. Set plays are kept to a minimum as Bonaventura has his players shoot and move as they feel best. However, should the opposing team play with a particular style or have a certain weakness, Aleix Bonaventura will not hesitate to draw up a few plays for the team to put into action.

Point Guards:

23- Alessio D’AQUINO (Rosaria Royals) --CAPTAIN
Height: 6'2 – Weight: 181lbs – Wingspan: 6'6 – Vertical: 37.7’’– Age: 24

A superb athlete with great speed and leaping ability, Alessio D’AQUINO is far and away the best point guard in the EBA and the third best player in the league. His best qualities come from his innate ability to see the whole court and understand what the best scoring option is, using his outstanding passing and dribbling abilities to get the ball where it needs to be. He is also a great scorer, especially from the 3 and off the dribble, while his shiftiness and handles let him slice and dice to the rim. He is outstanding on the pick and roll, and he has formed a fantastic relationship with Rosaria Royals teammates Alexis Wolfe and Alessio Zabek, with West running the pick and roll we've seen plenty of spectacular dunks, layups, and open shots for the trio and fans will be hoping for that to translate into national play. He is a natural born leader of men, calling the plays and running offensive and defensive schemes with authority, and has been rewarded with the captaincy.
Athleticism (For position): A- – Speed: A+ – Strength: B+ – Vertical: A
Offense: A – 3pt: B – Mid-range: A – Close range: B+ – Passing: A+ – Rebound: C+ – Handles: A+
Defense: B+ – On-Ball: A – Steals: A+ – Blocks: C- – Rebound: B

17- Max DESUAZI (Tareq Bakir Dragons)
Height: 6'3 – Weight: 200lbs – Wingspan: 6'9 – Vertical: 33.1inches – Age: 21
The driving force behind the Tareq Bakir Dragons second place finish, Max Desuazi had an absolutely wonderful season, coming second in the mvp voting despite this only being his second year in the league. Offensively, he is a pure shooter who knows how to move the ball around and take quick shots. Most lethal from mid-range, Desuazi also has excellent three-point shooting, with a quick release that is nearly unblockable. When it comes to close range shooting, Desuazi has a deadly eurostep that he uses to deftly navigate past defenders. Of course, he always has his athleticism to rely on for a change of pace. He is very skilled at crossovers and hesitations, and use these to ice his defender before blowing by them for an emphatic slam. Defensively, Desuazi has quick hands and length to help contain his man on the perimeter, as well as using his speed to defend against the drive. Athletically, he is very quick, with a deadly first step and he can really race by the other team if he gets a chance to get to his full speed.
Athleticism: B+ – Speed: A – Strength: B- – Vertical: B+
Offense: A- – 3pt: A- – Mid-range: A+ – Close Range: A – Passing: A – Rebound: B – Handles: A
Defense: B – On-Ball: A+ – Steals: A- – Blocks: B- – Rebound: B

Shooting Guards:

8- Garret BRISCOE (Rosaria Royals)
Height: 6'6 – Weight: 218lbs – Wingspan: 6'11 – Max Vertical: 42.7 inches – Age: 23

Garret Briscoe is extremely quick, with fast first and second steps, Harrison looks to do a quick one-two step to blow by his defender and pull into mid or close range, from where he is absolutely lethal. A superb finisher, Garret Briscoe is capable of converting difficult lay-ups even after hard collisions with large defenders. If the close range option isn't available, he has a very strong mid-range shot. One of the more intriguing aspects of Briscoe game is that he's starting to develop a lost post game which, if developed properly, could lead to making Harrison one of the most versatile scoring players in the Echani league despite being a spotty 3 pointer. Defensively, he makes use of his elite athleticism to lockdown his man and to nab several steals and blocks every game. Forms a great backcourt with Rosaria teammate Jonathan West.
Athleticism: A+ – Speed: A+ – Strength: A- – Vertical: A+
Offense: A – 3pt: C+ – Mid-range: B – Close Range: A+ – Passing: B – Rebound: A- – Handles: B+
Defense: A – On-Ball: A – Steals: A- – Blocks: A+ – Rebound: A+

18- LaMar Lewis (Okonma Dragons)
Height: 6'4 – Weight: 211lbs – Wingspan: 6'8 – Max Vertical: 36’’ – Age: 23
A unique combination of athleticism, three point shooting, and hustle defense, LaMar Lewis is the energy man for the Dragons. His sheer athletic ability allows him to slash to the basket, finish through contact, grab six or seven boards a game, and just generally make life hell for whoever is guarding him. He never seems to run out of energy. Seriously. Even at the end of the game, he's still good for sprinting up the court on a fast break, throwing it down with authority, and then busting it back to his assignment. Of course, he could also just pull up and nail a three. Which he does. Quite frequently. Shooting 43% from behind the line, Barber is a brilliant, two-way threat. He has been working hard to develop a mid-range game and will undoubtedly be trying to showcase this.
Athleticism: A – Speed: A+ – Strength: B – Vertical: A
Offense: A- – 3pt: A+ – Mid-range: B – Close Range: B+ – Passing: B – Rebound: B+ – Handles: A-
Defense: A- – On-Ball: A+ – Steals: B – Blocks: A- – Rebound: A-

Small Forwards:

5- JULIUS Romero (Val Helio Warriors)
Height: 6'8 – Weight: 252lbs – Wingspan: 7' – Max Vertical: 42.1’’ – Age: 29

The consensus best player in Eshan, Julius Romero won his third MVP this past season after averaging an amazing 33 points per game. A pure and powerful scorer, Julius is capable of putting the ball in the basket from anywhere on the court. He can finish through contact at the rim, pull up for a jumper in mid-range, or spot up for the trey. A quick first step and a good ball handling ability let him blow by his man while his agility and balance and sheer strength and power let him finish in a myriad of ways through extreme physicality on his way to the rim. He’s a good playmaker, and solid on the defensive end of the game, having a reputation as a chase down block specialist. He puts the ball in the bucket.
Athleticism: A – Speed: A- – Strength: A+ – Vertical: A
Offense: A – 3pt: A – Mid-range: A – Close Range: A+ – Passing: B+ – Rebound: A- – Handles: A-
Defense: A – On-Ball: B+ – Steals: B- – Blocks: A – Rebound: A

13- Jesolo SARATIS (Sebio City Stars)
Height: 6'11 – Weight: 225lbs – Wingspan: 7'3 – Vertical: 40.1' – Age: 18
Jessolo Saratis will be one of the greatest players in Eshan’s history full stop. Two years his making his professional debut, he has proven himself to be an elite perimeter scorer who can seemingly score at will from mid-range and from deep, deep three-point territory. The moment he walks into the gym, Saratis is within shooting distance, while his size, elite athleticism, and elegant footwork and touch around the rim allow Saratis to finish well at the rim.His ability to stretch the floor due to his shooting has proved to be an invaluable asset to his team, creating space for his teammates to attack the basket. His biggest weakness is his inability to create for himself off the dribble and tendency to be bullied in the paint by stronger big men. He has a error of throwing unreasonable passes at times; he sees the pass but is having trouble executing so once he gets that final ball down... One of the most important aspects of his game is his ability to light the torch for his team. He can sense when morale is down and takes it upon himself to hit a deep three, an emphatic dunk, or starting trying to move the ball around to get his teammates into a rhythm. Brilliant attacking threat who has been brought up into the league well by Sebio and will dominate it for years to come.
Athleticism: A+ – Speed: A – Strength: B- – Vertical: A+
Offense: A- – 3pt: A – Mid-range: B+ – Close Range: A – Passing: B- – Rebound: A- – Handles: B-
Defense: A- – On-ball: A – Steals: B – Blocks: A- – Rebound: A-

Power Forwards:

6- Andrew ILLIANO (Roma Renegades)
Height: 6'11 – Weight: 288lbs – Wingspan: 7'4 – Max Vertical: 40.1inches – Age: 25

A rarity on the Echani team, Andrew Illiano is not particularly skilled nor an exceptional athlete or even an above average one. Instead, Illiano brings pure, raw strength to this team. A force to be reckoned with, the incredibly strong Illiano makes his living on the offensive and defensive boards and by contesting shots. Lethal from close range, Andrew can finish through contact and multiple defenders at the rim. Defensively, he is an absolute monster of a shot blocker. He is poor against a dribbling opponent and against speedier opponents, however his strength makes it hard to post up or get by. He is on this team for one purpose and one alone. To provide elite strength and rebounding to an otherwise physically average team. This past season saw him spend considerable time on his jump shot, leading to a jump in points per game, as well as field goal percentage. He still has plenty of work to do on shooting, but any improvement is great improvement, and this bodes ill for the rest of the league.
Athleticism: A+ – Speed: B – Strength: A+ – Vertical: A+
Offense: B – 3-pt: D – Mid-Range: B- – Close Range: A+ – Passing: B- – Rebound: A+ – Handles: C-
Defense: B+ – On-Ball: B+ – Steals: C – Blocks: A+ – Rebound: A+

26- Draymond FEGAN (Rosaria Royals)
Height: 6'10 – Weight: 262lbs – Wingspan: 7'1 – Max Vertical: 35.7inches – Age: 30
A powerful, versatile scorer, Draymond Fegan makes use of his size and length to finish close to the rim and to provide rim protection on defense. Offensively, Fegan is deadly from close range and has a solid mid-range shot. What makes him such an intriguing player is his ability to hit threes. This forces the defense to stretch to cover him, opening up perimeter and cutting options. Defensively, Howard makes use of his length, vertical, and extremely fast first and second jumps to provide elite blocking abilities to the Echani team. A solid player, Draymond Fegan brings a well rounded threat from the post; he is a big-man who can bang on the inside but is also a perimeter scoring threat.
Athleticism: B – Speed: C – Strength: B – Vertical: B+
Offense: A- – 3-pt: A – Mid-Range: B+ – Close Range: A+ – Passing: B – Rebound: B – Handles: B-
Defense: B- – On-Ball: C+ – Steals: C- – Blocks: A+ – Rebound: B

Centers:

34- Alexis WOLFE (Rosaria Royals)
Height: 7'1 – Weight: 285lbs – Wingspan: 7'5 – Max Vertical: 31.1inches – Age: 24

An extremely long, athletic player, Alexis Wolfe is a devastating force in the paint and perhaps the most important player on the team. Capable of finishing over defenders with ease, Wolfe never misses from close range. A dream of a post-up player, Masamba makes use of fakes, dream shakes, and hook shots to get around even the best of defenders. A developing mid-range game is bound to make Wolfe even more of a dangerous offensive presence in a few years. He is extremely agile for a player of his size and has been compared to smaller point guards in terms of athletic ability and ability to nimbly maneuver around the court and the rim. Defensively, Wolfe’s size, length, and athletic ability serve to make him a lockdown defender with elite shot blocking abilities. Very possibly the best player in the Echani Basketball Association over Julius Romero due to his tremendous impact on both sides of the court, Alexis Wolfe is simply an exceptional player.
Athleticism: A+ – Speed: A- – Strength: A+ – Vertical: A-
Offense: A+ – 3-pt: D – Mid-Range: B – Close Range: A+ – Passing: B – Rebound: A+ – Handles: D
Defense: A+ – On-ball: A+ – Steals: C- – Blocks: A+ – Rebound: A+

00- Frequency Vibrations ‘FREQ’ (Isla San-Renee Slicers)
Height: 7'5 – Weight: 296lbs – Wingspan: 7'9 – Max Vertical: 30.2'' – Age: 28
We’re……not really sure why he’s called Frequency Vibrations or goes by Freq but we’re sure it has to do with some otherworldly basketball game ruined by Spike Lee. He’s a great two way player and also tall as fuck so that’s always extremely helpful to have in a center. Lethal around the rim because biological reasons and defensively a powerhouse, Freq comes off the bench as a sort of Alexis Wolfe except less good.
Athleticism: A+ – Speed: B- – Strength: A+ – Vertical: A
Offense: A- – 3-pt: F – Mid-Range: C+ – Close Range: A+ – Passing: B- – Rebound: A+ – Handles: F
Defense: A+ – On-ball: A+ – Steals: D – Blocks: A+ – Rebound: A+

Qasden Basketball

Moons ago, Qasden competed in basketball for the first time ever at IBC21 in RK Quebec and Drawkland. They were complete debutants, never to have seen baskeball in other countries before. They were the underdogs of their group, which consisted of giants such as Quebec and Electrum. Somehow, the Vans snuck past West Phoenicia and Electrum to make a surprise appearance in the knockout stages. Against the then-#1 multiversal team, Ko-oren, TQ took them the full 3 games before making a historic victory over the dragonflies. Afterwards, the Qads rematched the Québécois reapers, whom ultimately ended the glorious run.

Since then, the once-newbies are now one of the hottest prospect squads to perform exceptionally at IBC 24, ranked 7th multiversally. In Ethane and Qasden/Abaja alke, the BasketVans have overdone themselves as usual, birthing into 2 more consecutive knockout round appearances. Travelling to the skyrocketing destination known as Newmanistan, Starks and the Qads are more confident than ever on reaching as far as the semi-finals. Can the Vans earn themselves another powerful run embedded into the ripples of time? Or will they succumb too early to the next generation? Live or die, it's the ball's decision.

Your guide to Qasden IBC24

The Principality of Qasden is a small but loud landlocked nation located on the Azeurian continent of Atlantian Oceania, bordering Geisenfried to the southwest and the tip of Milchama, also in the southwest. Home to approximate 20 million Qads, the country is a haven when it comes to sports enthusiasts. With 97% of the 'pality's population being perpetually involved in some kind of contest, the nation ranks as possibly one of the most sport-loving and competitive countries in southwestern Atlantian Oceania, most likely behind Valanora and Farfadillis. Soccer, basketball, and tennis come in as the 3 most popular sports in Qasden, followed quickly behind by handball, table tennis, and ice hockey.
---
The Venues
---
For the duration of Qasden's group stage journey, all home games for the Vans will be contested at 3 southern cities: Fyre, Qad City, and T.V.C.

Fyre - Centre de Solis (27,000)
Image

The better half of the mountainous duo of Fyre-Destiny, Fyre is the "Denver of Qasden". Not sure what or where this "Denver" is, but we'll just take that as a compliment. Anyways, the Centre de Solis takes shape in the Red Light haven of the winter wonderland. Home to the Fyre IceKings and Lunas, SdS is the most internationally recognized stadium of the Qad portion, having hosted a few games and a semifinal at the 26th World Lacrosse Championships. Fans can enjoy the glorious culture of PIS-like wonders across the metropolitan vicinity. The centre itself comes equipped with multiple restaurants and stores, and don't be surprised to see random Geisenfried fans in the crowd waving their home flags no matter what. Here will host the matches against Bjornoya Islands and Late Eden.

Qad City - The Snake Pit (40,00)
Image

One of the crown victorias of the nation's 2nd largest city, TSP is home to the ever-so famous Qad City Mambas, one of QIBA's most prestigious teams. Not to mention the superior Real Qad City, the beautiful and ironically named "Ghost Town" haven is Qad City's economic and sports epicenter. Fans of Dunnes and Qasden alike can enjoy the accommodations of the Pit, including tons of club levels and restaurants. So, who's gonna strike rich in Q-town?

T.V. City - MaxCap Stadium (68,000)
Image
If you thought the last stadium was cool. "The Cap" is the largest fully-indoor arena in all of Qasden. The beloved home to the T.V. City Blues and Monarchs, as well as the second home to millions of basketball fanatics, MaxCap supplies attendees with multiple amenities, most notably being the only permanent Feasties' restaurant in the entire multiverse. MaxCap will host the journey's beginning against Pridnestrovia, as well as against the tournament's hosts, Newmanistan.

NEWMANISTAN ROCKETS

“Two Time IBC Champions”

Basketball in Newmanistan: Basketball has a solid following in Newmanistan, though the fans are drawn to the college level a little moreso then the pros. It’s popularity is regional in nature, with the Loudon area in northeast Newmanistan being the most fanatical towards the sport and that is the reason the Emperor has chosen Loudon to be home base for the team and not the traditional spots of Tundra Falls and Pocono City during the qualifying stage of the tournament. This is a competition that Newmanistan had success in back in the day, winning both IBC 4 and 5. That was a long time ago, but the Empire was able to advance to the playoffs in their return to international play in IBC 23, so they feel like they are on the right track.

Basketball is played differently in Newmanistan. There is an additional line behind the three-point line that serves as a four-point line. Shots behind the half-court line are worth six points. Players are taught how to shoot from longer then expected distances at a young age, so they will have a higher level of success at these shots in comparison to those who have not routinely practiced them. Be aware of this in the IBC, because while the four-point line will not exist in the tournament, our players are comfortable putting up shots from distances that you’re team might not be used to having to tightly defend. They are unlikely to put up shots from beyond the half court line, though, in this tournament. The big key to remember is that within the halfcourt, be expecting a shot from anywhere.

Coach: James Parsons, 60 (Loudon Leopards)
Home Area: “The Jungle” (Loudon Stadium), Loudon. Capacity: 19,441
Uniforms: Envision the uniforms of the University of North Carolina as the best comparison.

Starting Five:

SF: Daquan Wilson, 30 (6'9", Putnam Lake Eagles) (#34)
PF: Jaylon Wright, 28 (6'10", Southport Tigers) (#33)
C: Travis Brown, 31 (7'4", Tundra Falls Saints) (#50)
SG: Kenny Atwood, 27 (6'2", Loudon Leopards) (#11)
PG: Quinton Fayne, 28 (6'5", Loudon Leopards) (#3)

– Atwood and Fayne are the playmakers of the lineup. In particular, Fayne will put up a shot from anywhere on the court at home, and in this tournament he is the one that will have to be closely guarded at all times. Atwood will put up the long shot as well, as will Wilson if you forget about him. Brown is more then just a giant in the paint. He will camp out there and look to grab rebounds, and is often successful, at both ends of the court. Defensively, he is a star, and tactically smart, making him tough to beat. Wright is good on the boards as well.

Bench:
F: Jake Kenwood, 31 (6'7", Centralia Cougars) (#44)
F: Carnell Larribee, 30 (6'9", Pocono City Capitals) (#32)
F/C: Byron Storm, 25 (7'2", Olympia Gladiators) (#55)
C: Tiberius Connelly, 26 (6'11", Springfield Thoroughbreds) (#45)
G: Rick Dunne, 30 (6'1", Dover City Mountaineers) (#23)
G: Dwayne Murray, 23 (6'4", Brighton Bulls) (#4)
Utility: Sheik Mohammed, 27 (6'7", South Charlotte Condors) (#21)

All of these players are stars at home, therefore Newmanistan will not hesitate to put any of them in when necessary. Murray is blossoming into an amazing shooters, and leads the Empire in 4-point and 6-point shooting percentage.

Is this the Scorpions year?

The West Phoenician Scorpions are back once again for the International Basketball Classic 24th edition.
With team management making no changes from their previous line up the Scorpions will definitely need more sting than their last two appearances.
So far they have failed to progress to the round of 16. Winning only 3 of their 12 games combined after the the 22nd and 23rd edition.
They had a promising look at the Kelssek and Vekaiyu Summer Olympic Games were they ranked 2nd in their division and missed out progressing to the top 16 but the skin of their teeth.

WP Sports has slotted in some air time but the consensus before the game actually starts is the Scorpions are set to crash and burn. Poor coaching, disrespect and lack of team bonding will no doubt see them the joke of this edition.

Banija enters the IBCs; do they have a chance?

Image
Banijan head coach Alonzo Busk in a press conference when he was at Loyola-Istria

LAKISKA- Banija's opening game of the International Basketball Champions is hosting Frenline Delpha at the Busoga Reigonal Arena. THey haven't entered this tournament with much of a history of success at this level in this sport; in Banija's three previous tournaments, IBCs 19-21, they never once won a knockout stage game. This is a team that has been here before, though since it has been so many years, only point guard Fasika Henoke has actually played in this tournament before. So Banija is a bunch of unknowns as they get ready to host a team 45 spots ahead of them in the rankings.

Banija's games will all be played at the Busoga Regional Arena. It holds a seating capacity of 17,500, and though it is far away from the national capitol, basketball has its roots in Banija in the Busoga region. They are on the campus of the Islamic University of Busoga, the country's only islamic in a region that is 49% muslim, the only region in the country that does not have a commanding Puritan Mormon majority. While they will be here to enjoy the support of the fans, we need to talk about the team on the court. Who are they? Can they actually win?

This team will play a 2-3 defense. They have the length to do so; With two 7 footers that can play in the paint, teams going to the basket on anything other than a breakaway will face a dificult time indeed. Of course, the two stars of this team are the Saveneh twins. Faraba & Katamaba are both the same height, and they are seen as Banija's two best basketball players. They are going to post up a lot, and this team's offense will be faced on feeding them the ball. They don't have shooters on this team- so the lack of three pointers will be tragic for this team. This, of course, is because Banijan basketball never adopted the three pointer- we don't shoot that at home.

What are the keys for Banija in this game? Well, first, the Saveneh twins need to stay out of foul trouble. IT is clear that everybody knows that the Saveneh twins are the core of this basketball team, and teams will try to take them out of rhythm by getting them both into foul trouble early. They know that with Banija's lack of shooting and a slow-moving offense, a comeback for this team will be incredibly difficult, so if they can open a big lead early, they might really be able to open the game up against the Banijans.

Second, of course, they need to be fed the basketball. What team can match up with two seven footers on the court at once? Nowadays, teams like to run, be small and quick. Banija might have a lot of trouble with a small lineup if it is filled with shooters; Banija is a slow basketball team. Can teams run the Lions to death? The twins will get their share of blocks, of course, but they will neutralize this team in the fast break. I imagine a lot of pressure will be put on Banija's guards; if they can't bring the ball up the court, Banija will be in serious trouble.

Ultimately, while we expect a raucous environment for one of Banija's traditional sporting rivals, we expect that Frenline Delpha will be able to pull out a win in this game. They have too much experience, while the Lions have a lot of catching up to do at this level. We expect a low scoring game, but ultimately, the final score to be 72-65 to the visitors. The Lions will be able to take out a lead, but their lack of ability to shoot the deep ball will hurt them.

Do they have a chance at this tournament? Well, the lack of ability to shoot the deep ball will certainly hurt this team. Three point baskets are worth more than two, and the Olympic Committee of Banija must look at this for the Banijan Basketball League. Other teams will be able to outshoot and outrun them. However, Banija will kill teams on the glass. With those seven footers, they will almost certainly have a rebounding advantage, and limit the amount of second chance points a team can earn.

We expect that Banija can pull off an upset or two, but they are still too inexperienced to actually win this thing. Banija will be able to get to the knockout stage, but we ultimately expect them to lose in the round of 16. The amount of experience at this tournament will be too much for the Lions to overcome, but this will be a serious building block if the Olympic Committee is willing to invest the resources to form an independent Basketball association, rather than direct governance, that can lead Banijan basketball to new heights and allow this team to consistently compete at this level.

THE ROCKET REPORT

HOPING TO RIDE IN BASEBALL COATTAILS

by Brianne Henry,

While many people across the Empire were celebrating Newmanistan’s victory in World Baseball Classic 41, becoming the first five-time champion in the sport, there was a lot of work going on beyond the scenes to bring the International Basketball Championships to Newmanistan. This would be the second largest competition that the Empire has hosted since returning to national play, and hopes to show the world that we can do more then have pitchers pitch big games pretty much on one leg. Attempts at the World Bowl have not led to success, so the Empire is hoping to return to glory on the hardwood.

That all sounds nice, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The climate in basketball now is much different then it was when we won a couple of early editions. The tournament has taken off in popularity, and there are two particularly strong contenders, who are presently tied with the number one rating, and there are several strong challengers behind them. For starters, forget about Abanhfleft being a mediocre baseball team that can get to the playoffs, but that’s about it, because they are a basketball juggernaut. You could say, they are Super-Llamaland in this competition. Then there’s Saint Kanye, who amid the group draw’s reporters diligence to make sure to spell Abanhfleft correctly (which always has us double check regardless of how may times we’ve seen it), they messed up Saint Kanye’s spelling. They seem to be more Schiltzberg then Super-Llamaland if we are to use the baseball comparison, because they’re championships are recent. Very recent, as in they are looking to three peat, as well as take four of the last five. Should the Surge win, it would be their fourth title, making them the most successful basketball playing nation, and we certainly know how motivating that can be.

So, what can we expect in the 24th International Basketball Championships, from our own Rockets? It’s a solid roster that did manage to sneak into the playoffs during their return campaign in the 23rd tournament, but once there, they were little match for Abanhfleft. They are ranked 21st overall, which was enough to allow them to sneak into the back end of pot 2 for the group draw, and perhaps that will be just enough to see them get back into the playoffs again, since the top two teams advance. Qasden, who was one of the co-hosts for the last IBC, is in our group after their strong run in the playoffs last year that our fans would love to find a way to duplicate. The nation of Dunnes, ranked 67th, is the only other ranked team in the tournament, so while they may be our biggest threat to playoff participation, it may be one of those unranked sides that do us in should they seem to be able to adapt to this level of competition well. Bjornoya Islands and Lata Eden are a couple of new nations we don’t know anything about yet, but there is also a new one in this group that we do know some information about, and that is the nation of Pridnestrovia. Scouting reports suggest that the socialist nation has plenty of potential, including a naturalized player from Abanhfleft, originally. They could be the biggest threat to us, but we’ll have to see how they rise up to this level of competition.

Thus far, we have not seen any passionate speeches from baseball players telling the basketball roster, that, “You can do it!” However head coach James Parsons is close with baseball coach Ashley Stevens, primarily because they both coach their respective sports’ Loudon Leopards. Parsons told us that, “Ashley has been supportive, and there are some things that she can help us with, in regards to our experience in playing an international tournament and staying away from distractions. But just like I don’t give her baseball tips, she doesn’t give me basketball ones. The mental side of it, though, is where we can benefit.” We also asked Ashley Stevens about it, and she told us that, “We see each other a lot at events, of course. I want him to do well, and any way I can help, I will be glad to.”

Play for the Rockets begins with a home game at The Jungle in Loudon against Lata Eden, so the team will expect to get start off on the right foot.

IBC 24: Pula Agilas to debut against Ethane - Tickets sold out

Image
Coach Ciot Santos giving the teams instructions in their tuneup games (OOC Image Credit: Philippine Star)

SAN MARCO - With the nation still ecstatic after their football team's Baptism of Fire title, the national basketball team known as Pula Agilas, will be playing their first game of the International Basketball Championships against the fourth ranked team in the world, Ethane. Coach Ciot has labelled this game as the most important of their games, as he believe that 'the first game will set the tone for their upcoming games.

The team has been busy preparing for their opening home game, after their tuneup games have went particularly well. They soundly beaten domestic team Venividicci 89-63 in their final tuneup game where the coach has labelled their performance as 'good enough'. In these series of tuneup games though, some of their weaknesses were exposed, as some younger teams were able to run their sets to make scoring runs - a thing common in basketball that Ciot hopes to avoid in the opening games.

"I want them to win as many as they can in the opening games. I do not want us to play catch-up and end up short in our group. We also have Frenline Delpha and Banija in our group which makes our group tougher. We could leave game 3 with a 0-3, a record no one wants to get after their extensive preparation in this tournament." He also noted that the team is in considerable pressure after the football team won the Baptism of Fire tournament.

"Of course, that gives us pressure. We target to advance from the groups, but let's be realistic here. I may target a higher objective, but finishing last in the groups would mean disaster, right?" He added.

The first game for the Pula Agilas will be in the Ismart Anetta Coliseum, in which the tickets are already sold out two days before the game. We wish our basketball team luck when they step up to the hardwood and take on the best teams the basketball world could offer.

Following a hotly disputed Hinodejin Basketball League season, players of the two finest teams of that competition, the Mugenishima Islanders and the Uranai Déesses have clearly nurtured a hatred from each other's sides. In the middle of this, polemic manager Yujifumi Wakuri now has to perform respectably in the first ever attempt of this new Hinodejin Empire to try and fill in the shoes of their earlier version making good use of players that might not respect him.

This side also features some of the respectable upcoming talents the HBL has to offer, such as Yokyoishi Kureon and Heizo Ohori, although the real question here is how other teams will deal with a (usually) healthy giant Seung Min-Soo.

Hispania y Filipinas National Basketball Team
Hispania y Filipinas Equipo Nacional de Baloncesto
Pambansang Koponang Pambasketbol ng Hispania y FIlipinas

Information
The popularity of basketball in Hispania y Filipinas is widesprad. However, there are no organized leagues yet, with groups of people playing just for leisure and fun. There were attempts to run a commercial league, with only a handful of companies taking part in the league. It eventually died down.

Walter Picaso Laganson "Walter", a basketball fanatic and owner of a chain of supermarkets in the capital Maniladrid, formed a team of players who he knew could take the sport of basketball to the next level. He also coaches the team, manages it, and cover their expenses.

Roster
CENTERS
STARTER - #24 Adan Calupig Gerpacio ("Adan") [Age: 28 Height: 2.13 m Race: Hispano-FIlipino Team: No affiliations]
The Hispano center from Barcebulona, Adan was called by Walter to play for the team, with the confidence that he will play good basketball at the paint. His main strength is his rebounding and hustle. However, he is very weak at perimeter shooting and usually overstays at the paint, accuring multiple instances of three second violations.

BENCH - #41 Amador Guira Zosa ("Amador Zosa") [Age: 31 Height: 2.08 m Race: Filipino Team: No affiliations]
Tapped by Walter after seeing him play at numerous pistas (OOC: fiestas) , Amador Zosa is a proficient shooter, not common for a center or a power forward of his size. He would play beyond the perimeter on offense and guard the basket on the defensive end. Not much of a defensive stud, as he fails to swat shots most of the time due to his lack of athleticism. He can play stretch-4 and support Adan if Walter decides to rest their power forward.

RESERVE - #80 Aristeo Tampipi Gavieta ("Aristeo Gavieta") [Age: 23 Height 2.07 m Race: Filipino Team: No affiliations]
Can play power forward, and usually would only play at the third quarter. Raw but has untapped potential, and is only one of a few Filipinos that possess an enormous height in their race. Walter saw him play at one of the paligas (league basketballs - usually inter-color) of his company. He works as a utilityman in Walter's supermarket.

POWER FORWARDS
STARTER - #4 Gerian Torralba Ulibarri ("Gerian Torralba") [Age: 25 Height 2.02 m Race: Hispano Team: No affiliations]
Talented power forward who can gobble most rebounds and loose ball situations. Can block the ball and alter shots. His big weakness is his tendency to be a foul magnet, and is usually taken out of play halfway through the first quarter. According to Walter, in his 24 paliga games that he watched, he was fouled out in 15 of them. However, in clutch situations, he could be a reliable defender and can tip in bricked shots with his immense vertical.

BENCH - #33 Lito Lumunsad Alapide ("Lito Alapide") [Age: 32 Height 1.97 m Race: Filipino Team: No affiliations]
Usually the bench player for the power forward slot when Gerian Torralba hits the deck due to foul trouble. Is a dependable defender, but he does not score much other than put backs. He is also weak on the line, so he is the ideal man to foul on clutch situations. Only used in the second and third quarters. He is Walter's closest friend and helped build the team for the Hispano-FIlipinos.

SMALL FORWARDS
STARTER - #71 Inocencio Sebastian Najera ("Inocencio") [Age: 18 Height 1.98 m Race: Hispano Team: No affiliations]
The most talented player in the team. He scores, slashes, drives to the basket, and can shoot threes. The only problem he has is his liability on defense. He is always caught off position, and sometimes lost on the defensive rotation. He can however carry a team to victory on his own. Discovered by Walter while playing in one of the fiestas in Barcebulona.

BENCH - #92 Jobertson Buergo Tabilin ("Jobert") [Age: 29 Height 1.88 m Race: Filipino Team: No affiliations]
Ten centimeters shorter than Inocencio, but has a wide wingspan, and can defend all positions. In an all defensive lineup, Walter employs this secret weapon in close situations, benching either Kris Galasinao or Inocencio.

SHOOTING GUARDS
STARTER - #3 Kristofer Galasinao Cervania ("Kris Galasinao") [Age: 31 Height 1.87 m Race: Hispano-Filipino Team: No affiliations]
The reliable captain of the team. A deadeye beyond the three point arc. His jumpers inside the arc are automatic when unguarded. He gets hot during tight situations or when the team is in a need of a spark plug on the scoring department. Walter told the media that Kris Galasinao trains shooting the ball six hours a day, including Sundays. Similar to Inocencio, his weakness is defense.

BENCH - #44 Clinton Decilio Araña ("Clinton Decilio") [Age: 22 Height 1.83 m Race: Hispano Team: No affiliations]
Defensive specialist. A pesky defender who can steal the ball well and avoid silly fouls. He only hits foul trouble once in every 20 games. He is deployed in court when the opponent's lead is large or the team is defending a precarious lead in the dying moments of a game. He is the husband of Walter's daughter.

RESERVE - #10 Tei Gumarang Tubojan ("Tei") [Age: 26 Height 1.80 m Race: Filipino Team: No affiliations]
Can play point guard. Does not usually see action in court, and he rarely shows his stuff while inside the court. Walter though could have reasons for not fielding him during games, maybe a spot filler or he's just hiding his real talent.

POINT GUARDS
STARTER - #0 Beata Laganson Mondano ("Beata") (F) [Age: 20 Height 1.79 m Race: Hispana-Filipina Team: No affiliations]
The only female in the team. Reliable playmaker who depends on her agility and speed. She rarely cracks under pressure, and could also shoot the three. She can also defend 1 position players effectively. She is Walter's niece.

BENCH - #55 Moses Pucyutan Dionco ("Moses Dionco") [Age: 32 Height 1.75 m Race: Filipino Team: No affiliations]
Has the similar skillset as Beata, minus the three point shooting. He was Walter's supermarket supervisor before he went into playing full time for the team.

JERSEYS
Hispania y Filipinas has not contacted any sportswear provider for the jerseys, instead, Walter bought blue and white colored substandard jerseys (ones which can be found on a bargain price on supermarkets), numbered them with spray paint, and silkscreened the logo of the Coat of Arms of Hispania y Filipinas. The flag was embroidered, however. The primary jerseys are blue, while the secondary jerseys are white.

Banija gets annihilated in the opener of the International Basketball Championships by 38 points on their home floor

Banijan starters look on from the bench in the 4th quarter after blowout loss to start the IBCs

LAKISKA- The International Basketball Championships were a chance to see where Banija measured up to the world in this sport. It had been a mixed sporting run for Banija in the past few tournaments- a quick group stage exit in baseball where they lost 8 of their first 9 games, but that was alongside a shocking appearance in the quarterfinals of their first ever World Cup of Hockey, where the hockey presence in this country is basically slim to none. They have a bunch of athletes flying to Britonisea for the NS Winter Games, and of course, the highlight, Loyola-Istria winning its second NSCF championship.

This run to the IBCs, however, started a lot more like their attempt to do any kind of damage in baseball. They came motivated, and ready to play in the Busoga Regional Arena against former regional rival Frenline Delpha. And Frenline Delpha, the #13 team in the world, showed why they were #13. They ran up and down the floor, shot 3s, and absolutely destroyed this team. They put up 93 points. The Banijan team, not known for their offense, was carved up on defense. Every which way. In the words of the head coachs, "there was not a single aspect of the game where we looked remotely respectable." Even Fasika Henoke said that the performance "looked like we had no pride in the jersey and flag- I am personally disgusted."

There is not a single phase of the game that Banija was said to win. They lost on the boards. 3 minutes into the game, the Saveneh twins both had two fouls. At the end of the 1st quarter, both bigs had 3 fouls. Neither played the entire second quarter because of foul trouble, and Frenline Delpha crushed them. Without their bigs, they could not rebound. Their lack of speed was not made up for by size, and the team started getting picked apart. Frenline Delpha went small and just could not stop scoring.

It was painful to watch. We have no desire to summarize the game in detail, because it was that bad. This arena was completely empty midway through the fourth quarter. There was even a point where their opponents led by a round 50, 85-35, with 5:50 left in the 4th quarter. But the head coach said that this was a chance to start with a new slate. "Nothing worked today", he told reporters. "We were down by 50 halfway through the 4th, and they were getting ready to score 100. But, of course, this will show our mental toughness. There is no worse way to start a tournament, but it has happened? Will all our confidence be shot?

Banija follows this game up with a home game against Filindostan, who also lost at home to start the tournament. What's Banija's advantage? Faraba Savaneh. He was a 7 inch height advantage on the key veteran and captain of their opponents, Farida. If Savaneh can dominate that matchup, he can give his team a fighting chance. While she's a battler in the post, his simple size advantage will mean that he should be able to score once he gets the ball in the paint. However, Filindostani superstar Sandro will have an advantage over the much slower Jallow. Can the Savaneh brothers give him help?

We expect Banija to rely heavily on the 2-3 zone defense. These two teams are polar opposites. Banija has a large advantage in size, but is not very quick. We expect Filindostan to shoot a lot of 3 pointers, and they will get looks on the outside as the defense packs it in to try and stop the ball from going inside. We even expect a variant of the 2-3, the 2-1-2 to be used, to force the visitors outside. While it's early in the tournament, the Banijan team might see this as a must-win game.

There are 10 games in the group stages, and only the top two in each group advance. Now, of course, they lost the group opener, at home. They are in last place. Their second game is also at home. If they waste this golden scheduling opportunity to get off to a fast start, and dig themselves in an 0-2 hole, with 5 of their last 8 away from home, there is almost no chance Banija advances to the knockouts. A split? We'd find ourselves in a decent spot. But two games, two losses, and moreover, both losses in Lakiska?

Because of that, we here predict a close win for Banija. They will get it together mentally, and bounce back even stronger than they were before. We believe that Banija could win 64-55, and stave off the image of this IBC campaign being like an uncontrolled toboggan flying down the mountainside.

The West Phoenician Scorpions had a surprise victory which has left the team and fans celebrating across West Phoenicia after The Scorpions defeated Northwest kalactin 90-70. The 20 point lead thanks to team captain Mohammed Al Taqir and Point Forward Ezekiel Lucknow who scored 50 points between them.

"Goddess Fortuna has clearly blessed us after our offering her the best offerings of fruits, incense and silver" Team manager Andrew Lesbos.

The Scorpions are hoping this is a good sign that they will at least make it to the top 16. However they are aware that Northwest Kalactin is an unranked team and the real decider of if the Scorpions have improved since the last Championships will be when they play off against a higher ranked team.

IBC 24: Foul trouble and poor shooting keys in Pula Agilas' opening defeat

SAN MARCO - Filindostan lost their opening game against Ethane by 17 points, 81-64. The key moment in the game was when Hari, their tallest player in the game, had to deal with foul trouble in the first half. With Hari in the bench, the players needed to rely on their shooting, but it deserted them. The Filindostanis only shot 38 percent from the field, with a dire 4 of 16 shooting from three.

"We need to improve these figures. We need to keep our inside game going despite the foul trouble our starting center made." These were the words coach Ciot Santos mentioned in the post-game conference. Asked when he will change his strategy against the Banijan team, he said "We'll see in the game. We do not normally change our tactics midseason, but sometimes you do have to have some tricks up your sleeve especially when needed."

The Pula Agilas next face Banija, who were defeated big by Frenline Delpha by 38 points. They hope to get the season rolling for the Filindostanis.

Vannish Basketball Returns

Vangaziland faced off against Tropicorp on Match Day 1 of the International Basketball Championships. It may have been one of the Empire's most anticipated IBC starts in their few, short, prominent seasons. They faced an unranked opponent, but many fans wanted to see how this new amalgamation of the Olympiad team and the original Royals would fair. It's been three seasons since former coach Tim Tomasson promised to make major changes to the Royals if they did not improve.

The following season, the Royals made it to the Championship and lost. A good result for a solid season. After that, the Royals suffered a hangover loss in the first round to an unranked team that's no longer competing. This brings us to the latest season, IBC 24.

"The E.O.C. were good that year. They really put the effort in", said new Royals' head coach Kate Foyelson. "The Royals did not deliver. So changes were made."

Change #1 was replacing Coach Tomasson with Coach Foyelson. Several new members are expected to make a splash.

Minister Jeer Vinton from the Vannish Sporting Department spoke on the move. "Kate has shown us time and time again that she meets the international coaching standard. This isn't like domestic sports where the coach gets replaced along with their entire staff. Kate knows the international teams and is our players' best chance for efficient coaching and guidance."

Change #2 involves coaches and scouts putting together the "New Blend", as the Royals refer to themselves nowadays. Juell Sampsen is the first Olympiad player to make the starting line up. However, the spot isn't guaranteed as Manny Battle is in competition for the start.

"The bench is all fighting for a starting spot. The team is deep now", reserve PF Battle said. "We still have to come together, some of us. It could be our downfall. But I have faith that things will work out in the end."

"It's something I told them", said Coach Foyelson. "If we make the playoffs, the five that get us there will start. Well, at least the best player in each position will."

A major addition is Steven Eaglesen at PG. He's led the Vannish Olympiad team to back to back gold medals as the team captain and floor general.

"It was a team effort", Eaglesen said months ago when he learned he was slotted for the Royals' bench. "IBC 24 will be another team event. If I have to come off the bench, I'll get in where I can. I'll talk strategy when I'm not playing. I still have the Eaglesen eye. I'd rather be calling the plays though."

Yulssen is on thin ice after last year's breakdown. He offered only a few words on the merger. "It'll be good for the team. I support it." Still, the PG looked annoyed about the topic. It looked as if he was following the sporting department's code of etiquette more than anything. The department briefs all Vannish athletes with their new status as informal diplomats.

The game started with a Tropicorp run. The Vangazi had chances, but the shot just didn't fall. The team started 0-for-4 as Ironwrought, Sampsen and Knucks each missed a shot. Yulssen was blocked on an aggressive drive to the lane after passing into three missed shots. Coach Foyelson called a time out and could be heard talking to her team on the TV.

"Space and pace. Space and pace. Get your hands up on D. Stay with them. Push the fast breaks. Spread out. Spread the offense. Shoot, move, communicate."

It was a reminder of stuff they talked about during many practice sessions. "I had to get their heads back in the game", she said post match.

Vangaziland set up their first screen of the year with Ironwrought setting for Yulssen with Gravu cutting around and bunching his defender as well. Gravu caught the pass, turned, shot and faded away. The three pointer went in with the Vangazi sharpshooter's hand still raised on the follow through. Yulssen picked up his first assist of the season.

The Royals didn't pull away until after halftime following a close first two quarters. Ironwrought picked up steam in the 3rd and never let up. Yulssen and Eaglesen found the hot hand and fed him all game. The minutes were split roughly 65%-35% for Yulssen and Eaglesen. They're too similar 'pass first', floor generals. Yulssen is a better scorer and has more experience. Eaglesen is more athletic and a better defender. Yulssen also likes to cut more, partially because of a higher vertical.

Ironwrought would finish with 28 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist and a block. He's fresh off a domestic season where he led an expansion team, the Heske Ferrymen, to a 41 - 8 record and the Championship. This was the year he found himself, his third in the pros.

Yulssen had 13 points, 7 assists and 1 steal. Eaglesen had 9 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. It was a mix of unselfishness play, as both guards looked more to set up plays than to shoot.

"This was no accident", Yulssen said following the game. "We're experimenting with a few things in preparation for any playoff run. We need to see what works the best. Who gets hot? Who's clutch? There's a long season ahead."

Lonnie Knucks had a big night on the board with 11 rebounds, 8 of which were offensive rebounds, as many defensive rebounds bounced further outward for the wing players to chase. The spry 7'1 Knucks jumped into the crowd at one point to save a rebound. Ironwrought caught the emergency pass and took it coast to coast for a fervent dunk on the opposite side.

The Royals moved to the top of their group with a +36 point differential. Vangaziland will play the Free Republics next, a team ranked 16th in the competition. They'll be the Royals' biggest threat in the group.

Vangaziland's sports media is abuzz and awash with speculation on what sort of strategy the Royals will use on the IBC's top teams.

Juell Sampsen had a quiet night, but sported bright Vannish blue (purple) dye mixed into his hair. He finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds and a block.

Northwest kalactin players ready for revenge

Image

Let’s face it we didn’t play the best game last night but we didn’t get crushed you don’t want a 90-70 loss but it was against one of the better teams we are just a bunch of players on a unrated team we have a good chance for a win tonight when we face off against Juvencus they are also unranked and this is expected to be a fair game because of that we may have a better team though we have a great coach with a experienced team and we hope that helps us

IBC 24: SURGE WIN OPENER AT JUVENCUS
New starter Alex Martin shines with 19 points

by Kelsey Ratzenberger

POMENA - Before the St. Kanye Surge's first game of the 24th International Basketball Championships. the assistant coach of the Kanyean national basketball team, Bernard Foley, spoke up. "We've practiced hard enough. Let's see if it has been paying off now. And no matter what the result would be, let it not dictate the rest of the tournament for us. If we lose, we must not lose hope. If we win, we must not get too confident about it." And so the Surge played hard, on the road against a Juven team making its first appearance on the international hoops stage, and came out on top 84-58. Small forward Alex Martin had a stellar debut for the purple-clad Kanyeans with his 19 points, three assists and five steals.

There was no clear record on the Kanyean attendance in this game, but it easily seemed to number more than a thousand, as the Surge fans and their purple and lime attire took up a noticeable chunk of the stadium in Juvencus. The Yeezies fed off the energy of this crowd and jumped off to a 17-2 start, holding the Juven scoreless until their power forward tipped in a miss by their center at the 3:08 mark of the first quarter. The first ten minutes of play would then end with St. Kanye on top 22-7.

By then both of the Surge's new starters, Martin and center Rakim Roberts, had just two points apiece. But they joined forces with the rest of the first five to go on another run to start the second period, gaining a 21-point lead on their opponents (34-13 at the 7:12 mark) after a four-point play by Surge shooting guard and noted sharpshooter Victor McLain. However, the Juven would go on a run of their own and cut the lead to just twelve, 41-29, with just seven seconds remaining in the first half. The lead would have been just ten, but the Juven point guard's three was blocked from behind by the third new Surge player, the naturalized Freige named Klaus Muhlenberg. Michael Porter scooped up the loose ball for the Kanyeans, who passed the ball to McLain, who then returned the ball to Muhlenberg, assisting the newcomer for his first two points off a hook shot to let the Kanyeans end the half leading by fourteen, 43-29.

The Juven would prove to play better upon returning from their dugout to start the third, as they would cut the lead to single digits, 47-38, after a split from the line by their shooting guard at the 6:45 mark. The two teams then traded baskets, and then the Kanyeans would be able to regain their double-digit lead with a three by new captain Brock Dotson to make the score 57-45 with 2:18 remaining in the third. Once again the Juven attempted to cut the lead to ten, and once again Muhlenberg came in to save the day, this time with a steal and an assist to McLain for a three, 60-45 Surge. "I was just repaying him, after all he helped me get my first points", Muhlenberg later said.

Juvencus never got closer than thirteen the rest of the way, with the combination of the Surge's powerful offense and efficient defense putting them away in the fourth. Zack Coyle slipped past a taller defender for a layup, and Johnathan Schneider stopped and popped for a three over the backup Juven center, making sure that all of the purple-clad boys have points across the board. Three consecutive threes in the final minute, one from McLain and two from the versatile Roberts, silenced the crowd as St. Kanye joined fellow Group 5 nations Cosumar and West Phoenicia in the win column with a 26-point win,

"Next up we go to Eshan, then back home to St. Kanye to face Northwest Kalactin", said Surge head coach Anton Spoletto. This is a new concept, at least for us, holding the games in the respective nations and not just the host nation. I'm sure we can easily adjust though, and I especially look forward to the home games, having our own countrymen be the majority in the crowd, now that will really motivate us," Eshan, led by captain Alessio D'Aquino, fell in their opener, 82-85, against the Cosumar Stallions, but will have the home advantage. The Surge will be wearing their new black alternates for this game.

Scores:

ST. KANYE 84 - Martin 19, McLain 14, Roberts 12, Dotson 7, Muhlenberg 6, Porter 5, Schneider 3, Coyle 2, Norris 2, Samson 2, Duff 1, Walker 1.

JUVENCUS 58 - Individual scores not available.

Quarters: 22-7, 43-29, 62-45, 84-58.

Oh yes people, Azadeshia has defeated it's best friend Indusse by 80-66.After the match the other people saw something unusual.Indusse and Azadeshia players were hugging and giving each other sweets.Indussean player said "Azadeshia and we are like brothers. We always help each other out".Govind Navathe didn't get to play the match against Indusse.

CHIT-CHAT In The Locker Room

Govind Navathe: WHAT!!!!

Sayana giving some sweets to Govind.

Sayana Navathe: Here have some.Mom made it for us.

Govind throws it away
