Welcome to the 66th edition of the Baptism of Fire, hosted by Barunia and Mattijana

The Barunian Football Association and the MattijanaFussBand (Mattijanan FA) are proud to present the 66th Baptism of Fire.

Power to the People! It’s time to focus on the true heroes of the world cup: the people of football. No ranks, no records, no history. The Baptism of Fire unites people in one tournament where all are equal. It’s time for the footballers of the world to unite.

This is the place to post your rosters and RPs for the duration of the Baptism of Fire. The thread is IC (in character) only and any OOC comments or questions should be made in the official World Cup Discussion Thread, linked above.

RP Themes:

To celebrate Mattijana and Barunia's classifications as Socialist Federations, the theme for this Baptism of Fire is "Power to the People." This gives nations the chance to explore the many characters behind their teams.
Possible RP ideas:
-Pre and post-match interviews with players and managers as part of a match report.
-Team talks and interactions between players, other players and support staff around and between matches.
-Profiles of some of the players in your nation's squad as well as the manager and coaching staff, discussing tactics, personalities and which players are most likely to score, get sent off, get assists etc...
-In depth character RPs about a series of shady or non-shady events featuring your characters.
-Information about non-fooballing personalities in your nation such as celebrities and politicians.

Of course these are only suggestions and other formats of RP are available. If you have any questions about RPs. Feel free to telegram one of the hosts.

Frequently Asked Questions:

(For infrequently asked questions, please visit the World Cup Discussion Thread or Telegram one of the hosts).

I'm new here. How do I get a feel for what's going on?

The first place to go for first-time RPers is the guide to sports roleplaying which outlines all the key features and workings of NS sports. Most basic questions are answered here.

How do I make a roster?
A roster is effectively a team-sheet. It contains a list of the 11 players you will put out to play your matches which opposing nations can use to RP. Of course detail is encouraged and as well as a basic lists of players, you can add information about those players and any subs and reserves you wish to send, tactical information such as formations, information about the manager and support staff, a little background information about your nation and information about your home stadium(s). There is no limit to the number of players you can include in a squad, but most nations go with around 23 in line with the real-life World Cup. To get a feel for what to include in your roster, take a look at last cycle's world cup roster thread.

My team likes to park the bus and play for a 0-0 draw, how do I show this?

The style of your team is interpreted by the scorinator through a style mod, which should be included in your roster (preferably somewhere obvious so we can find it). Style Mods range from -5 to +5, with super-defensive teams at -5 and free-scoring, but defensively leaky teams at +5. Whichever style mod you choose, there is no advantage in games won, so it depends only on how you want your team to play.

What if I don't want my matchday 1 opponent to brutally murder all my players?

Here enter the sacred RP permissions. Here you can tell your opponents the extent with which they can interact with your players in an RP.
Copy and past this box into your roster and fill in the details.

Godmodding is RPing an action that would be extremely unlikely to happen in real life, such as a player scoring from 50 yards via a rebound off the referee. These may be allowed or disallowed in the cases of scoring, injuring or other events. Other events can refer to anything and has included crowd action, extreme weather and probably aliens.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes/No
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes/No
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No

Choosing goalscorers is allowed by pretty much everyone as not allowing it would make life very difficult for an opponent to describe a match. However many nations apply limits to number and seriousness of injuries (e.g. No deaths or career-ending injuries) and a cap of how many yellow or red cards can be handed out per match.

In addition, a player can say 'telegram me first' in cases where an action could be contentious. This is normally in the case of godmodding.

It is important that you follow the guidelines set my other nations when writing your own RPs. Brutally murdering an entire team's players is not generally appreciated.

Welcome to Mattijana!

Mattijana is a huge safe nation with a significant, but proportionate population. It spans a fairly large range of climates with the far north a colder area, the central region temperate, the south Mediteranean and the South-East semi-desert. Petrovijanka, the capital city, is located almost exactly in the centre of the country at 480-520 metres above sea level. It has summer highs of around 28°C and lows of -5°C in the winter. There is a high level of sunshine for most of the year with precipitation mostly snowfall in the winter months.

Culturally, Mattijana can also be divided into six regions. The West of the country is largely Germanic whilst the centre North is a mix of Slavic and Germanic cultures, centred around Mattijana's second city, Burges. The North-East is mainly Eastern European whilst the Centre (where Petrovijanka is situated) and the South are Slavic. There is an Arabic community in the South-East.
All Mattijanans speak the official language, Mattijanan. However, due to this not being spoken anywhere else in the multiverse, English and German are well-spoken throughout the country whilst Arabic is taken on by the most intelligent students (in addition to English and German) as well as by those in the South-East.
There is no official religion in Mattijana due to this mix of cultures and secular policies. Islam is popular in the South-East and parts of the South whilst some in the East follow the Mattijanan Orthodox church. Most people hold no religious belief, but believe in the universal philosophy of being kind, welcoming and helpful to others. Even in religious communities, it is these principals that are most talked of with religious figures used to preach them.
Due to the mix/match nature of Mattijanan cultures, religions are also a little mixed up. This is the reason that most muslim women do not wear headscarves.

Attitudes to drink and sex are fairly liberal whilst there is good gender, sexual and racial equality. Social mobility is also good and the rich earn only 2.5 times as much as the poorest.

The government follows mildly socialist policies meaning the tax rate is fairly high, but schools, hospitals and other public services are all well-funded and reasonably-priced or free at the point of delivery. Taxes on large businesses are higher than on small ones. The government building is the MattiStaja, which is situated on Staja square in the centre of Petrovijanka. All six regions have their own smaller congresses however. Politicians are generally appreciated and although public decisions are limited to elections and important political decisions where the main population is the most affected, most citizens feel well represented due to the numerous meeting and discussion opportunities with their local politician.
All parties follow a similar philosophy, but mainly disagree on where to fund the most. The MattijanaLeušaBuro is the current elected party, but other popular parties are the ViroBuro (who generally promote the needs of the environment) and the NašinalBuro (who promote funding for employment opportunities). Despite this attitude, unemployment benefits are actually quite low in order to encourage people to be hard-working.

Currency and Shopping
Mattijana has recently switched its currency to the Espo, the regional currency of Esportiva, which is worth around 10 NS$. The country has suffered some economic instability since, meaning everyday products may appear expensive. However, public services remain well funded, so public transport and any healthcare, should it be required, are likely to be cheaper than at home for visitors. Due to the decreasing exchange rate, industries dealing with international customers, such as hotels and travel companies, will have very reasonable prices.

Football In Mattijana:

Football, locally known as Fussja, generally plays second-fiddle to Field Hockey in almost all parts of Mattijana, but is popular over the entire country, one of the only sports where that is the case. As a result, grass roots football is found throughout cities and rural areas, and is enjoyed by all.

Despite this, the Mattijanan premier league, where all members of the national team play, is entirely city-based, with two major sides in the capital Petrovijanka, one in Burges and others in the cities of Revinka, Puljanka and Snezn.

Teams inevitably vary in style, but most Mattijanan fans believe the best way to play football is to play passes along the ground, often out from the back, with fast and skilful wingers taking on defenders one-on-one. The counter attack should be used at pace, with longer passes used to stretch defences. The opposites to that, keeping possession with short passes or aerially kicking the ball upfield are frowned upon. This often means that games involving Mattijanan sides are a little fast and loose, but can be very end-to-end and entertaining.

Mattijana has a Football association, the MattijanaFussBand, that operates as part of the Mattijanan department of sport. They run the national team and the administration of the Mattijanan leagues, as well as co-ordinating grass roots football for all.

Venues:

Stadijo Dinamov:
Image
City: Petrovijanka
Capacity: 60,000
Club residents: Dinamo Petrovi
Location: Northern Petrovijanka, just outside the old town.
Transport: NordesRute tram service from central Petrovijanka. B6/8 Bus links.
Matches:
MD1: ASMRLAND vs Lambdasia (Group E)
MD2: Darkmania vs ASMRLAND (Group E)
MD3: Reuss-Lippe vs Liberated American Provinces (Group F)

The Stadijo Dinamov is widely regarded as the home of Mattijanan football and is one of the oldest football grounds in the country. The stadium itself has kept up to date over the years, but the style undoubtedly remains and the Dinamov is certainly up to the demands of international events.

Stadijo OstOtok:
Image
City: Petrovijanka
Capacity: 35,000
Club residents: FK Petrovijanka
Location: Garijo Ljubana, PetrovijankaOtok, central Petrovijanka
Transport: 5 minutes by foot from Staja Square, 3 by bike. OstesRute tram service or B12 Bus link.
Matches:
MD1: South Toronto vs Liberated American Provinces (Group F)
MD2: Lambdasia vs Rotztotzka (Group E)
MD3: South Toronto vs Adab (Group F)

Petrovijanka's smaller, but more central venue is situated on the east side of a natural island in the middle of the Sava Petrovi river and is another wonderful venue. The stadium itself is largely decorated in traditional Mattijanan methods and is trickier to access by road, but is merely a few minutes journey from the centre of the old town.

Around Petrovijanka:
As Mattijana's capital city, much of Petrovijanka is based around the Mattistaja (parliament building) in Staja square. The city follows a ringed system from there and is a nice walking environment with much of the beautiful old town pedestrianised and the PetroviOtok present just to the East of the main square. Many coffee shops, bars and casual restaurants can be found, with the best one or two streets back from the main square. Apart from the football, attractions are numerous.

Sadijo Nasinal:
Image
City: Burges
Capacity: 85,000
Club residents: FK Burges
Location: Eastern Burges
Transport: NordesLinija Train route from Burges central station, S5 subway route.
Matches:
MD1: 15:00: Bojikstan vs Jabok (Group H), 19:45: Maryloupe vs Kebec (Group G)
MD2: 15:00: Amerland Islnd vs Maryloupe (Group G), 19:45: Empire of Donner Land vs Jabok (Group H)
MD3: 15:00: Bojikstan vs Empire of Donner Land (Group H), 19:45: Maryloupe vs U-62 (Group G)

The Stadijo Nasinal is Mattijana's biggest multi-purpose sports stadium and is regularly used for Hockey, football, rugby, cricket and athletics events. The ground is less pretty, but more functional and due to it's size, is probably the easiest to get tickets for. The ground is situated in a reasonably uneventful suburb of Eastern Burges.

Around Burges:
As Mattijana's second city, Burges is a bigger location based around the Sava Juliana river, in the centre north of the country. Like most Mattijanan cities, there is a stone-based old town, as well as numerous historical monuments.
Ballajas, bread rolls with a variety of savoury fillings are the national Mattijanan dish and are derived from the area around Burges, As a result, the best ones can be found in restaurants in Burges.

Stadijo Snezn:
Image
City: Snezn
Capacity: 37,000
Club residents: FK Snezn
Location: Western Snezn, not far from the old town.
Transport: 10-15 minutes walk from central Snezn, 10 minutes cycle. S3 tram or B3 Bus routes.
Matches:
MD1: Amerland Island vs U-62 (Group G)
MD2: Bojikstan vs Al-Qurija (Group H)
MD3: Amerland Island vs Kebec (Group G)

The Stadijo Snezn is situated in Mattijana's most northernmost city and is a more modern ground, with a generic rectangular shape and fairly modest capacity. This feature however makes it very accessible and easy to use, so a match here should be a reasonably comfortable experience. The stadium was built around 15 years ago, by owners FK Snezn.

Around Snezn:
Due to it's position in the far north, Snezn is chilly, even in mid-summer. Highs typically peak at around 15 degrees C, so for those of you used to warmer climates, pack some coats and woolly hats, particularly as winds can also be cold and strong.
Despite a tougher climate, Snezn is a delightful small city with a beautiful old town and a rich history based around the city's status as an old trading post, shipping hub and now cultural centre for the northern lifestyle and cuisine, which is more basic and nordic, but still wholesome.

Stadijo Katarina Zafarova:
Image
City: Revinka
Capacity: 30,000
Club residents: FK Revinka
Location: Coast, Eastern Revinka
Transport: S2 Tram route, 20 minute walk/10 minute cycle from city centre.
Matches:
MD1: Reuss-Lippe vs Adab (Group F)
MD2: Liberated American Provinces vs Adab (Group F)
MD3: ASMRLAND vs Rotztotzka (Group E)

Another modern multi-purpose stadium, Revinka's regular evening thunderstorms mean that a roof has recently been added to the stadium to make for all-weather events. The stadium is already used for Hockey, rugby, football and handball and is named after Revinka and Mattijanan national Hockey captain Katarina Zafarova.

Around Revinka:
Revinka is Mattijana's party city, boasting the best weather and some of the best beaches in the country along with a multitude of beachside bars, cafes and restaurants. In addition, the old town, placed behind the old port and now marina is as stunning as any around the nation, with the town wall largely preserved.
Revinka is also the place to go for fish and seafood cuisine as well as being the home town of the RevinkaSaft beverage company that will this year be making an appearance at the AVBF festival in Neu Engollon. Wines and Liquors are the speciality, although non-alcoholic versions are also available.

Garijo Ales Struna:
Image
City: Puljanka
Capacity: 40,000
Club residents: FK Puljanka
Location: Garijo Struna, north-west Puljanka
Transport: 10 minute walk/5 minute cycle from City centre. S11 Tram route.

Matches:
MD1: Darkmania vs Rotztotzka (Group E)
MD2: Reuss-Lippe vs South Toronto (Group F)
MD3: Darkmania vs Lambdasia (Group E)

An older, but very traditional stadium in a park just north-east of Puljanka's centre, the ground has progressed from humble beginnings as a playing field to one of the most recognisable stadiums in the country.
The ground has been upgraded in accordance with Mattijanan FA rules, but still retains much of its old history and is a beautiful place to watch a game. The most distinctive features are the arches spanning the length of the North and South stands.

If Revinka is the beach club of the south, Puljanka is its stately home. The small city, situated a little way inland from Revinka is more known for being the home of Mattijanan Cricket and is a little more modern than the likes of Petrovijanka and Revinka, with surviving architecture dating back only around 400 years. The city contains a lot of green space that is centred around the PulaGarijo, a beautiful urban garden that hugs the banks of the River Pul for most of the way through the city.
Despite Puljanka's more affluent past, recent history means that prices are much the same as in every other Mattijanan town and there are all manner of excellent and affordable restaurants dotted around the city. Cuisine is mixed, with some fish from the coast and the river Pul on the menu, as well as pork, beef and veal dishes with meats from the surrounding area.

WesterStadion:
Image
City: WestStrand
Capacity: 70,000
Club Residents: Weststrand FK
Location: Northern Weststrand
Transport: 10 minutes on foot from Weststrand city centre and main train station. B1 bus route from city centre.
Matches:
MD1: Al Qurija vs Empire of Donner land (Group H)
MD2: Kebec vs U-62 (Group G)
MD3: Al Qurija vs Jabok (Group H)

One of the newest stadiums in Mattijana, the Westerstadion was built to reflect its resident's consolidation of a place in the Mattijanan premier league, which gave the club enough funds to move out of a small and battered old ground into a shining new 70,000 capacity creation on part of a former park in the north of Weststrand.
The ground is used almost exclusively for football, although there is talk of rugby also being allowed to take place at the ground. The stadium's modernity means it is accessible and comfortable.

Around Weststrand:
The most Germanic of Mattijana's cities, Weststrand is situated on the west coast of the country and is part of a more rugged section of coastline extending for hundreds of kilometres. As a result, the weather is generally windier than in most locations, with rain coming off the sea regularly.
The town itself has a more colonial feel to it, with imposing buildings on the seafront giving way to narrow, but buzzing backstreets containing a number of quirky independent shops. Watersports are also popular in the area. Cuisine is largely seafood-based, with mussels a very popular choice in the region.

Long Distance Travel:

International airports are found in Burges, Revinka and Petrovijanka, with some Esportivan flights also heading to Snezn. Shuttle underground trains from airports to corresponding city centres will be subsidised for the duration of the tournament. High speed rail links extend between all cities and airports, making travel to Puljanka and Snezn also relatively painless. There are express services between Petrovijanka and Burges, Burges and Snezn, and Revinka and Puljanka.
Those from reasonably local countries looking to travel to Revinka or Snezn may wish to consider travel by sea. Both cities have good ferry ports and road and underground links to the city centres they serve.

Welcome to Barunia

Overview

Barunia is a nation of several large islands and a chain of smaller islands in the Southern Ocean. Its weather is rather temperate, with temperatures remaining above 0 degrees Celsius even in winter. Snow is unheard of, although rain is very common.

The nation was first colonised by the Spanish, and later the English, and the national culture has been heavily influenced by the two. In particular, the north of the country is strongly Spanish, and many inhabitants in this part of the country speak Spanish as a first language. Almost all Barunians speak English however, as it the official language, with Spanish being a recognised national language. Barunia has no official religion, but does have strong religious protections. Attitudes to sex in Barunia are very liberal, while drinking is also quite liberal. There is a strong prohibition on drugs however.

The local currency, the Tilda, is at parity with the NS$. Products in Barunia may seem to be expensive to outsiders, but that is the trade-off for free education and public transport. Travellers should note that while public transport is free for Barunians, visitors are required to pay. Travel cards can be purchased from the ticket office of most major train and bus stations, or by contacting the relevant transport authority directly.

International Travel to Barunia is still rather limited, with plans for a second international airport stalled indefinitely. Currently, the only international airport is Porthaven International in the capital. From the capital, travelling teams and spectators can get to their host cities by interstate railway. Travellers can get as far as Tildos thanks to the high-speed rail tunnel under the Barret Strait, but will need to take a ferry to reach either Edwardton or Northport-San Baptiste. Alternatively, sea-planes run services from most major coastal ports, but are relatively expensive.

Stadiums and Host Cities
Barunia’s southern island is known as Barunia Island, and contains the only land state border. The eastern third of the island comprises the state of Havenia, with the national capital of Porthaven situated about halfway up the coast, around the Bay of Haven. As the national capital, the city offers a great number of cultural experiences. The Barunian Museum, National Gallery of Art, and the National War Memorial at Lighthouse Hill are all worth a look.

Sun Stadium (National Stadium of Barunia), Porthaven - Capacity: 95,000. Location: Porthaven, Havenia
Ground will host Group A, Grand Final
Sun Stadium is the national stadium of Barunia, and the home of the national team, the Barunian Suns. In honour of these illustrious tenants, the stadium has a strong sun motif. This includes the seat patterning, which represents a yellow sun in a blue sky, and the golden "sunburst" roof. The stadium is multi-purpose too, creating a vibrant sports hub for the capital. It is the perfect location to crown a new Baptism of Fire champion, when it plays host to the final game of the tournament.

To the west of Havenia is the aptly-named West Barunia. Heavily wooded areas and steep valleys characterise this landscape, with most settlement restricted to the cities of Sheppardton to the south-west, Woodvale in the centre, and the state capital of Newland along the north coast. Newland’s thoroughly modern appearance belies a dark history; much of the original city was destroyed during the civil war. Newland has reinvented itself with new building projects that appeal to the next generation of urbanites, and the city has a fresh, young feel not found elsewhere in the country.Just north of Newland, across the waters of the Barrett Strait is Delmars, the capital city of Tildos, the largest state and island in the Barunian group. Tildos is the food-basket of the nation, with plenty of fertile land along the banks of the Rio Verde. To the west of Delmars is the West Bay region, home to Yohan Marris, Barunia’s greatest ever footballer.

Bayview Stadium - Capacity 70,000. Location: Bayview, Tildos
Ground will host: Group C, Quarterfinal
Bayview Stadium is home to the West Bay Mariners, one of the powerhouses of Barunia's domestic league system. It is located in the town of Bayview, in the West Bay area of Tildos. The stadium is situated on a mountain overlooking Morgan Bay, and is considered to have one of the best views of any stadium in Barunia. Only a recent addition to Barunia’s World Cup tour, where it replaced Newland’s Blackrock Stadium, Bayview has proven a popular destination for both local and foreign fans.
Image

West of Tildos across Edwards Sound is the state of Marion, an island dominated by the dormant volcano at its centre. The mountain draws visitors eager to climb one or more of its many peaks, or to explore the inside it through the expansive caves syatem. The caves go right under the island and are also a hit with divers. Marion has a strong eastern European culture, found perhaps most strongly in the northern towns of Kirova and Lenina, and the people are fiercely protective of socialist values. The capital city of Edwardton is home to some of Barunia’s best sports teams, and has a reputation as a sporting city. It boasts two of the largest stadiums in the country, in Eels Stadium (field hockey) and Memorial Stadium, which will be used for the Baptism of Fire

Memorial Stadium - Capacity: 100,000. Location: Edwardton, Marion
Ground will host: Group B, Semifinal
Home to both the Marion Hawks and the Edwardtion Eagles, the box-shape and grille-like cladding of Memorial Stadium has earned it the nickname of “The Birdcage”. The largest football stadium in Barunia, Memorial Stadium is named in honour of those who fought in the civil war. Memorial stadium was built by Kytlerian company BNW Varin and features a retractable roof, 90,000 seats plus terraces, plenty of room for foreign media and large movable screens at the back of the top tier.
Image

Above Tildos is a chain of small islands that form the Territory of the Northern Isles. This is where the first settlers came to Barunia, and is famous for its strong Spanish influence and historic sites, including the monastery on Trinity Island and the shipwreck of the San Juan Du Baptiste, the first ship to reach these shores. The capital city is Northport on the island of San Baptiste, and is officially known as Northport-San Baptiste. The city hosted all of Barunia’s matches in their first world cup, and is seen as the spiritual home of Barunian football.

Sam Garcia Field (Northport Sports Complex) - Capacity: 43,000. Location: Northport-San Baptiste, Northern Isles
Ground will host: Group D, Quarterfinal
Located in the city of Northport-San Baptise in the Northern Islands, this ground is the sacred heart of Barunian football. Often considered to be the place where football in Barunia originated, it's a ground known for firsts, hosting all home matches during the Suns inaugural World Cup campaign (due to it being the only safe ground during the civil war) and is the home of the San Baptiste Sea Lions, the first Barunian Football League championship team. Named in memory of former Sea Lions and Suns goalkeeper Sam Garcia, the main pitch as the Northport Sports Complex is ready to take centre stage as it hosts the very first major football tournament in Barunia.

BOJIKSTAN
Ranking: Unranked
Formation: 4-4-2 diamond
Style modifier: +1.5
Home ground: Camp Strasburg. Capacity 68,000.
Kitmakers: Smoke Sports
Nickname: Azules

Introduction to the country
Bojikstan is a Nordic and Slavic country that also has various immigrants and speaks Spanish due to a former colonial presence. The country has recently been disconnected with the rest of the world because of civil strife and an outright civil war that has only recently started to ease up, and now the focus is on moving forward, rebuilding, and bringing the entire country into the first world. There is a divide between the western capital of Strasburg, which is very secular, and the eastern largest city, Odena, which is more Christian. The civil war was fought between a corrupt and religious government and secular socialist rebels from the western part of the country, but in the end, a more centrist and democratic government was installed after the western victory. Now, the country is strengthening international ties and working on moving forward. Recently, the Bojikstani National Coalition was elected to power, igniting a war between the Gallian Union over conflicts around Bojikstan's Terranean island territory.

Team history
The team was founded by the Bojikstan Football Federation when the latest government budget finally provided money to compete in international sports. Marco Christensen was picked as the first ever manager because of his ability to think outside of the box and punch above his weight tactically, and he assembled a squad of players for the third Independents Cup that were mostly reluctant. Some of the players needed to be paid to represent the country, partly because of east vs west tensions causing some players to not want to play with each other on the same national team. The nation wasn't expected to compete, but it did manage to finish fourth place after running through a somewhat easy path to the semis and then going out on back to back losses. Still, the showing increased confidence in the new team and in manager Marco Christensen.

With Christensen installed as the long term leader of the international program, the team finally embarked on their first World Cup competition, the Baptism of Fire, now led by the group of young players known as the Gunclub. This time, they would have the weight of a nation on their shoulders, entering the competition as the country began war with the Gallian Union.

MANAGERS

Image Man. Marco Christensen, 40 | FC Strasburg: One of the bright younger minds in football management, recruited to the national team because of his ability to think outside the box and do things somewhat unconventionally. Recruited by the national team with the promise of having more security than at Strasburg, Marco has his own demons from the war that he's evading...

Image Asst. Bruno Cain, 61 | Vorsji Devils: The manager of the Vorsji Devils is assisting Christensen for the same reason that the latter was hired, because the BFF wanted coaches that knew how to get their players to play up. Also because they needed someone that specialized in hustle and defending, traits that the team will need to have any kind of success.

SQUAD LIST

Starting XI

Image GK. Lucas Alberg, 24 | 1899 Odena: Athletic and powerful, and not the guy that you expect to see in goal. A flashy and sometimes dominant keeper that benefits from strong legs and long arms, but he has to learn to keep his head on straight and stay grounded while playing in the largest city in the country. While representing the national team, he's become almost famous for his eccentricity and quirkiness.

Image LB. Janis Shenchenko, 29 | Athletic Vorsji: AC Vorsji captain that still plays more like a fullback of old, laying down bone shattering tackles when the need calls for it and not feeling like he has to rush forward all the time. National team vice captain.

Image CB. Chico Suarez, 26 | FC Strasburg: The heart and soul of the back line for both the national team and FC Strasburg. Daring, aggressive, on and off of the pitch. Due for a huge extension and a giant payday if he can make it on the national team without starting major trouble with his teammates. Mistake prone.

Image CB. Martin Brander, 32 | Marque: Former Selta captain Marin Brander brings experience to the defense, and he joined Marque after helping Selta avoid relegation. The end goal, of course, is one last chance to compete during his career... On the national team, his experience is valuable for teaching some of the younger defenders a thing or two.

Image RB. Javier Velazquez, 28 | Selmby IK: The more attacking counterpart to the other fulback, Javier is no stranger to charging up and down the flanks and getting the ball into the box, or at the feet of some of the team's better attackers. On the other end, he's not afraid to play physically and pick up cards when he needs to.

Image DM. Mara Mandaric, 24 | Sporting Ceneisis Women: Made her name playing as a dominating defensive midfielder/half-back for SC Morievo at a young age, before showing out with the national team and gaining infamy for running hard and tackling like a defender. However, her move to Sporting Ceneisis revealed a knee injury that was sustained in the Bojikstani Civil War, that may end her career within a few years.

Image CM. Eric Dern, 27 | Strasburg Saints: A big fish in a small pond, the one on the other side of Strasburg. Precise, focused, and a playmaker first. On the national team, his role is to start the attacks and get the ball to those who need it when it's in the attacking third. Not much of a socialite off of the pitch, unlike some others.

Image CM. Rain Delacruz, 21 | AFC Corvistone: Artem Delacruz's twin sister has become a star of her own, making plays in the midfield with long passes and long shots, but she's still finding herself off of the pitch and has struggled recently with keeping her head straight. She's a little unstable, as evidenced by her side hobby of amateur fighting under a pseudonym. If she had as much confidence in her personal life as she did on the pitch, she would be well on her way to more success in all areas.

Image CAM. Alexy Hesse, 30 | FC Strasburg: The best known player on the national team, or at least the best known player that was willing to accept a call-up to the national team, is Alexy Hesse. The attacking mid has flash, vision, speed, and passing ability, and if the team starts winning, there's a good chance that it will be because he carried them. In early tournaments, Hesse shone brighter than anyone, but he's not getting any younger, and he's transitioning from a superstar role to a mentor role.

Image FW. Artem Delacruz, 21 | Gallian Telecom: Artem Delacruz was predicted for a long time to be a star, and lived up to the reputation by becoming the undisputed top scorer of the team. His scoring is based on playing off of a larger striker, and his skill with the ball is excellent for someone at the position. A hybrid between a nine and ten. His scoring earned a big money move to Gallian Telecom, where he immediately became a dominant center forward.

Image FW. Niko Komarov, 25 | Metropolis Alligators: Niko Komarov is sometimes crazy, sometimes arrogant, but always ready to give one hundred percent effort. The large striker combines power with technique and isn't afraid to bruise his way through the defense, although he needs to learn to keep his temper in check. The thing with Niko Komarov, though, is that he's a head case. His instability both helps and hurts the team at different times.

Reserve players

Image GK. Sam Horn, 26 | Strasburg Saints: The Saints keeper isn't as well known as the player in front of him, but he's been reliable and played a part in it when they shockingly won the title. He's more of a technical counterpart to some of the athletic keepers in Bojikstan.

Image GK. Lars Frisker, 29 | SC Morievo: Morievo has long relied on Lars Frisker to control their back line, and that reliability and loyalty has gotten him a spot on the national team, where he plays a major part in training and in mentoring the younger keepers and defenders on the squad.

Image LB. Killian Holt, 22 | Baskita FC: One of the top prospects in defense is Killian Holt, who was signed to Baskita because of his future potential. He's a real athlete and two way player, the kind of fullback of the future that's valuable for any side.

Image CB. Jared Ottosen, 33 | Athletic Vorsji: The Vorsji clubs know how to bring the grit on defense, and Jared Ottosen is no exception. The top backup defender is an option mainly on the team for physicality and ability to foul well, despite getting older.

Image RB. Luca Vargas, 28 | Vorsji Devils: A speedy, attacking fullback that's good at making overlapping runs and crossing the ball into the bx.

Image CM. Ricardo Hale, 24 | SC Morievo: A consistent depth option for the midfield, Ricardo Hale has been in contention for a starting position since the team began playing. His specialty is putting the ball where he wants it, from whatever position on the pitch he's in. But with the midfield being one of the strong parts of the team, breaking in isn't easy.

Image CM. Will Sorokin, 22 | FC Samotath: The latest from a long line of stars, who now represents the senior national team after leading the U-21 one. He's a very physical holding midfielder who specializes in quickly getting the ball and setting up the team's attacks with it, and thus his skills with long balls and accurate passes are considered great. His work isn't glamorous, but it's crucial to the team's success, and when he's on the pitch, he's considered the player who controls the tempo.

Image CAM. Livia Resendes Andrade, 22 | Tir Snake Strike: Liv Andrade has a lot of potential to either rise or fall. On one hand, she has amazing skills with the ball, and she can humble top defenders if they find themselves isolated one versus one with her. She has the vision of a good playmaker, too, and her tricks often act as distractions that allow her to set up a play for her teammates. On the other hand, the Sameban born midfielder frequently has troubles with teammates and isn't the strongest mentally.

Image FW. Dimitar Kovalov, 21 | Scaffield: Dimitar Kovalov is perhaps one of the more underrated prospects, but the one who puts in the most effort. His game is more about hustle than finishing, and he's more of a playmaker than a scorer. But he has skill at crossing and at playing the defensive winger role, and his defending is good enough to neutralize the other team's good attackers at times. A highly motivated player, as someone that comes from the streets of Odena, and who lived a dangerous life while playing for the National Academy at Odena.

Image FW. Pierre Gomez, 31 | Athletic Vorsji: Veteran striker Pierre Gomez takes up the main center forward spot off of the bench. An all around forward, he's especially effective in situations where his team provides long balls for him to chase down.

Postby The Steel Coast » Sun Nov 05, 2017 1:10 pm

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, or in this case, a single kickoff of a football.

On Thursday, Steel Coast national team head coach Owen Miles, standing alongside Steel Coast Football Association chairwoman Jenna Mikkelson in a presser at the SCFA's modest headquarters in Aciaria, announced the names of twenty-three men who will wear the steel and black at the sixty-sixth Baptism of Fire in Barunia and Mattijania this July.

"This is where it all begins," Miles told the gathered reporters. "Most every team you see in the World Cup finals began with a Baptism of Fire somewhere along the way, and we are no different."

There were few surprises in Miles's picks for the roster, which for some was a surprise in itself. The former Dreadnought gaffer, a standout at goalkeeper in his university days, cultivated a reputation in the early years of the Steel Premiership for playing youth over experience, often featuring multiple teenagers in his matchday rosters. Nevertheless, his first Steel Coast national selection appears strong, including mostly standouts from the first few years of the Premiership, plus a few players who made their bones in the amateur era.

While the Baptism represents the on-field debut of the Steel Tusks, a national team has been part of the conversation since the first rumors of professionalization in late 1999. Many saw a competitive national side as the end goal of a professional domestic league. Mikkelson was among those in the SCFA who pitched the idea to potential investors at the Downcoast University Stadium in Port Stephen in 1998, paving the way for the Steel Premiership. Sharing the podium with Miles, she addressed the SCFA's commitment to international competition, as well as its grander vision.

"We made a promise early on to the people of the Steel Coast that they would one day have a national football team to call their own. Today we have fulfilled that promise, but there is still work to be done. As Coach Miles said, the Baptism of Fire is not the end; it is the beginning."

The professional era of football in the Confederacy began in 2001 with the first-ever season of the Steel Premiership, a professional domestic league that was largely the brainchild of business-minded SCFA elites like Mikkelson. Previously the top flights of football in the Steel Coast had been a tossup between the universities and the "old boys" clubs which recruited their alumni.

A projected formation for the inaugural Steel Tusks side. Miles's team is expected to rely heavily on Athlone Wanderers man Maynard Griffiths to shield the back line while team captain Lawrence Barrows creates chances upfield. Pacey Rathsberg United winger Long Squires is expected to anchor the attack.

QURIJAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM
Image
Special thanks to Filindostan for these!

The national football team of Al Qurija was formed in 1439 AH, 2 years prior to the current Baptism of Fire competition, when the Qurijan Football Federation announced that it would be sending to the major football competition of the multiverse, the World Cup, as well as the Baptism of Fire. Players were selected from all accross the city state, seen playing in the streets or small pitches in minor football tournies. The team is mostly consisting of high school and college students rather than actual veterans, with the team's oldest member being 25 years old. But despite the offensive mentality of most players in those ages, wanting a fast paced game, with tons of chances, the team is playing quite balanced, playing on a 4-4-2 formation. The coaching stuff is a bunch of elderlies talking about football in a tavern. A great fact about the team is that it has 2 teams of similarly skilled players, so one lineup is used as the starting one for one game, the other for the next one, however the lineup which does not start is automatically called a sub lineup.

The Squad:
Playing XI #1:
GK:Ayman Jawdat Sultan(Age 21)
CB:Nassim Samir Nejem(Age 17)
CB:Fihr Muhammed Bousaid(Age 23)
RB:Jamaal Khalid Tawfiq(Age 20)

FILINDOSTAN
National Football Team
Baptism of Fire 66

The Filindostan Football Federation is pleased to present the Filindostan National football team, to compete in the 66th Baptism of Fire, co-hosted by Barunia and Mattijana. The Pula Garuda re-enters the international scene and possibly return to the place where they made their debut sometime ago (in Mattijana for the 20th Campionato Esportiva). They had already a tournament experience in Esportiva's regional football tournament, the Campionato Esportiva, but they will hope to better their performance and exceed their best result of a Round of 16 appearance in an international tournament.

Image
About the Filindostan Football Federation

The Filindostan Football Federation (FFF) was founded after they split from the Filindostani National Sports Commission (FNSC), citing the FNSC's tainted image during the Multiverse Boxing Organization boxing tournament and the budget cut the agency suffered. The newly-established federation caters to the nation's footballing affairs and sanctions the selection of the senior, under-21 and under-15 squads. The FNSC will remain the agency for fielding other national football teams that are not sanctioned by the FFF.

The FFF's headquarters are located in San Marco, Filindostan, and is headed by Estrelitta "Estie" Barzagia.

Nickname: Pula Garuda (Red Garuda)
First Match: vs. Tumbra (0-1), Campionato Esportiva 20 (Mattijana)
First Win: vs. Natanians and Nosts (2-0), Campionato Esportiva 20 (Mattijana)
Overall Record: GP 4, W 1, D 2, L 1, GF 3, GA 2
PSO Record: GP 1, W 0, L 1, GF 3, GA 4
Manager: WILLY Gurnawan, Male, 45
Assistant Manager: Victoria Murielle "VICKY" Toledo, Female, 39

Playing Squad

In Filindostan, people are often called by their nickname. Some players opt to put their nickname instead of the customary last name in their kits. The shirt names for the squad are noted by ALL CAPS. So for example, Alexander Jampang's shirt name in his kit is ALEX JAMPANG. Likewise Antonio Rafael Vera will have his kit name as TONYO.

Goalkeepers

1 | GK | Gerry Nafari "GERRY" Nasution | M | 25 | Persetres Bandaroon
32 | GK | ABRAM Jampang | M | 25 | Venividicci
91 | GK | Antonio Rafael "TONYO" Vera | M | 19 | Fortunas

Gerry and Tonyo retain their spots from the Campionato Esportiva squad. Abram's performances between the sticks for The Knights in the FFL has earned him a spot in the squad, at the expense of Farah Kuniawan, who has not yet cracked the starting keeper spot from Wessel Lekatompessy in Perseuno. Gerry is the most experienced of the three and will most likely get the starting nod in the opening game for the Pula Garuda. Should he fail to help the Filindostanis secure their first win in the competition, it will most likely be Abram who will take the reins. Albeit with cat-like reflexes, his ball delivery needs improvement and might most likely to allow opposing strikers to intercept the deliveries he make. Tonyo, being the youngest keeper, is good at reading the game, however, his lack of command to his defenders, unless your defender is the Empress herself, has undermined his reputation at times.

Left/Rightbacks

2 | LB | Eliza Maria Milagros "MILA" KHALIFA | F | 24 | Venividicci
3 | LCB | CASIMIR Likumahuwa | M | 22 | Fortunas
21 | RB | Lorenzo Mark "ENZO" Matienzo | M | 31 | Persedos Bandariyan
68 | RB | Remus Graci "GRACI" Tessin | M | 19 | Venividicci

Only Mila Khalifa and Enzo were retained from the squad that advanced into the Round of 16 in the 20th Campionato Esportiva. Joining them are two promising young wingbacks, Casimir and Graci. Mila Khalifa proved that she can be a reliable left back during her stint in Venividicci and the national team. She can cover flanks quickly and can provide much needed wing support when the left winger runs deep at left flank. Enzo is a tireless right back and can be relied upon when making overlap runs, especially when Domo plays as right midfielder. His weakness though is exploited when he is too deep, leaving space for the opposing left winger to make plays off the ball and break offside traps. Graci and Casimir will be providing the youth and quickness that the team sorely missed the last time they were in Mattijana, but they might also see less time in the pitch if Willy prefers to deploy experienced backups in the national team. The latter though is capable to play centerback, despite the team already sending four centerbacks for the tournament.

Centerbacks

4 | CB | Dina Nadya "DINA" SATYAWAN (cpt) | F | 28 | Fortunas
5 | CB | Alexander "ALEX" JAMPANG | M | 27 | Perseuno Bandarito
88 | CB | Jeferson Martin "BUKNOY" Salcedo | M | 20 | Persetres Bandaroon
27 | CB | KARTIO Weici | F | 17 | Jakulta City

The "Filindostani Empress of Defense", captain and one of the oldest player in the team, Dina Satyawan, will lead the centerbacks in the tournament. She will be partnered however not by Buknoy, but with experienced centerback Alex Jampang. Buknoy, which the Filindostani media has declared the weakest link of the team the last tournament they entered, will be backing up the two instead with promising youngster Kartio. Dina Satyawan has been very good at defense this season for Fortunas, and while she picks up yellow cards now and then (due to professional fouls), she's been making up with it with crucial game-saving tackles. Alex Jampang is one big stud, a key factor for centerbacks fighting for headers and joustling for ball possession. His headers are on point and sometimes very unpredictable - one time he can put deceiving spins in glancing headers, other times, he can drill the ball to the goal. His weakness is handling quick strikers due to his height and build. Buknoy lacked what Alex Jampang can provide - but during his stint with Persetres, he can read the movements of the opposing player and make quick decisions about them. Nothing is noteworthy for Kartio at the moment, except that she has Under-21 experience, playing in the Di Bradini Cup for the young Pula Garuda, where some of her weaknesses were exposed - she's one of the players that will mostly be not seeing playing time during the tournament, racking up needed experience.

Left/Right Midfielders

14 | RCM | EDNA Debataraja | F | 17 | Venividicci
71 | RM | Donna Morielle "DOMO" Delos Santos-Strauss | F | 27 | Fortunas
44 | LCM | DAMARIS Cambo | M | 21 | Tanjung Pagi SC
34 | LM | Private Aniceto Ryan "PVT RYAN" Barizaga | M | 20 | Filindostani Army

It is almost a complete revamp for Willy in the wingers department, only retaining Domo among the four. She is now joined by Edna, Damaris and Private Ryan. Domo retains her starting position and will provide dangerous crosses and corners whenever possible. For sure, she'll be a marked player for the team. Damaris is the wildcard in the new lineup for Willy. One of the speediest wingers and the manager's high dependency on them, he'll sure compete with Private Ryan, who along with Edna, played at the Di Bradini Cup. Edna has been very reliable for Venividicci this season and was rewarded with an inclusion in the BoF playing squad. One challenge though for the right midfielders is how will they cope with defending when Enzo or Graci perform the overlap and sometimes overextend.

Central Midfielders

22 | CM | His Excellency "KING" Tisang (vcpt) | M | 24 | Venividicci
28 | CM | Muhammad "MOHD" SAFRI | M | 18 | Venividicci
43 | CM | SIHARTO | M | 21 | Persetres Bandaroon
10 | CAM | Onar Yoselito "ONYOK" Rivera | M | 26 | Fortunas

All four retain their spots for this tournament, with King and Onyok most likely to take the starting positions in central midfield and central attacking midfield positions respectively. King is a genius when taking set pieces and his passing has improved as the season goes along. His only downside? His short temper. He was banned two FFL games after a verbal spat with a referee for a non-call during a league match. Onyok can terrorize defenses on a good day, but sometimes, he can lose the ball very quickly, instigating opponent counterattacks. Mohd Safri can partner King at central midfield when they either run a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-4-2 when Onyok is not playing - and they have formed a dynamic partnership at Venividicci. They know when one or the other will attack. Siharto meanwhile, is a serviceable power sub at central midfield. He is also inserted in case of a 4-5-1 or 3-5-2 formations.

Forwards

9 | FW | Boris Choel "BOCHOG" San Lupe | M | 20 | Fortunas
99 | FW | BIENVENIDO Arespacochaga | M | 21 | Jakulta City
11 | FW | TRI BUANA Wayudi | F | 22 | Perseuno Bandarito
19 | FW | Marish Luzanie "YISH" Sta. Lucia | F | 21 | Venividicci

Only Bochog retain his spot at the pine. Filindostan's lack of opportunities at goal have been well-documented, and Willy and co. have scoured the league for good forwards. They found... three. Instead of five forwards, the manager only called up four forwards, with Onyok also expected to log minutes as a makeshift forward. Bochog has less-than-spectacular in the solo forward role for Pula Garuda in their matches, and with Fizzy surprisingly declining a call-up (which is very, very rare in Filindostani football), he takes the support striker role. The attacking forward role will now go to Bienvenido, who torched defenses while playing in Jakulta City. He will be a target man, and he's equipped with a powerful left foot. Tri Buana and Yish also got their callups - both are good workers, as attacking and support forwards respectively, and will prove to Willy that they are the solution to Filindostan's attacking woes.

Formation
This is the most likely lineup and formation if I'm not able to RP matches for the tournament.
Image

Style Modifier: -1.428
The play style of the team is largely unchanged from the last tournament they played. Mostly defensive and looking for counter-attacks, the defense will be anchored by the Empress herself, with King or Mohd Safri assisting in defense when needed. The team usually utilize pacey wingers to deliver dangerous balls to the penalty box, usually during counter-attacks.

Filindostani players are usually physical, especially defenders like Alex Jampang, and left midfielder Private Ryan, as he is a member of the Filindostani Army.
Cautions are mostly common due to their physical plays.

Kits
Image

With the establishment of the FFF, the national team debuts its new-look kits from Filindostani kit supplier, No Nonsense. The new kits will now sport red, a change from their usual black kits during the Campionato Esportiva. All sporting teams of Filindostan now sport the coat of arms of the nation instead of the logo of the sporting body. Their alternate kit is white, with the same design as their old home kit but with a different color. The goalie kit is all black, but in case of color clashes, a yellow version of the GK kit is available.

Team RP and Permissions
The below information will help teams RP against my team in case they RP first.

Most likely to... (in order)

Score goals: Bienvenido, Bochog, Onyok
Score an own goal: Enzo
Score a headed goal: Alex Jampang
Be sent off: Alex Jampang (due to physicality), King (due to short temper)
Score penalty kicks and direct free kicks: King, Mohd Safri
Play in corners: Domo (both sides), King (if Domo is not playing)
Be subbed in: Mohd Safri, Tri Buana, Siharto, Buknoy, Edna, Private Ryan

Fans
Filindostani fans are double-edged swords - sometimes they are most passionate fans in Filindostan, sometimes, they can be compared to the worst of internet trolls. Around five thousand diehard fans will travel to the host nation to watch their team play - but they usually bring their megaphones and flares with them - they somehow make it past the guards. Some fans are crazy enough to invade the pitch and cause match delays.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes
Godmod scoring events: No
RP injuries to my players: Yes - I'll determine the severity.
Godmod injuries to my players: No - Absolutely no death here please.
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes
Godmod other events: No

The West Violént National Football Team

Ranking: Bugger all so far.
Formation: 3-4-3
Home ground: L'Estadio Populaire de Christophe
Nickname: Les Cafards
Manager: Buruo Moztuta - a rum-swilling, cigar-chomping, army-cap-wearing Revolutionary war criminal hero, this modern major general is known for wearing twice his weight in medals, his impressively groomed mustache, and his aggressive, often reckless football tactics.
Ass. Manager: Staurice Ponce

West Violénce
You know how in most countries, the Government, Drug Cartels and the Secret Service aren't all the same group? Well, most countries aren't West Violénce. This tropical island nation is known for its pristine white beaches, balmy sunshine, and crippling papaya addiction - not so much for its ability to play football, and most certainly not for its ability to play football well. Nevertheless, the ruling Party has recently decided to spice up the nation's sporting repertoire and scooped up a ragtag bunch of surprisingly skilled college-age bums and wastrels to be its first official casualties participants in the Baptism of Fire football tournament.

The Style Mod is +2.5 - defense is often forgotten in favour of WW1-style trench charges.

Ranking: A deserved goose egg- deserved both because we've done nothing yet, and because Rushmori Geese are multiverse famous.
Formation: 4-3-3
Home ground: Estadio Najionale
Nickname: Il azzuroj
Manager: Enejo Romanacce - as good a pick as anyone in the country, which is to say still not very impressive. Has decided that as clear underdogs, his team should simply attack, attack, attack so that the supporters at least can have something to cheer for. A noble effort, if highly flawed.

Much of the squad has fairly fluid positioning- these are not professional footballers (yet) and many of them have played only at recreational/beer league levels. As such, they are listed only at a high level position-wise. Throughout the tournament they will hopefully develop into more specific roles.

FORWARDS

Jozefo Marko, a confident dribbler and strong passer, was the clear star of the pre-BoF training camp, and is the only player who currently looks like a true professional. Allegedly all of the Ligera Najionale clubs have already contacted him. Lucia Puggioni is the closest thing to a second player to watch based on the results of the training camp- she is a very confident defender whose positioning and vision seems to be natural. Much of Isula Reale's football team seems to be based on taking raw athletic talent and molding it into footballers, but Puggioni feels like a footballer already.

Lineups will likely/hopefully be posted for each match in advance. If not, default to- Eleazaro; Frailis, Puggioni, Silvio, Virdis; Elekta, Marko, Anakleto; Malakia, Seksto, Sulpicio

OOC: Recapping the matches Filindostan had during the Campionato Esportiva for caps and goals tracking.

Ana Sayuri "ANNIESAUR" Denosta is a well-known sports blogger in Filindostan. Her weird expressions and strong derogatory statements have earned her supporters, fanatics, and bashers alike. Her blog, titled the Anniesaur's... WERPA!! Blog is one of the most visited sports blog in Filindostan.

Anniesaur's... WERPA!! Blog
werpablog.blogg.fid

On Campionato Esportiva and Baptism of Fire

Hi, our beloved lodis! I'm here, Anniesaur, to bring you my opinions on sporting things here in Filindostan, and first on my item list is the football team and their debut campaign in the multiversal stage. Oh wait. I forgot the Campionato Esportiva!!! Our beloved Pula Garuda were in Mattijana last time for their initial Campionato campaign, and I was pessimistic that our lodis in black and white will not be winning all their games there. Well sorry for that because we won a game! We only won once but who cares? We won a fcking match outside of our home country!

Now, now, let's drilldown on what happened. Our Pula Garuda debuted against Tumbra, and while it looked like we're competent in defense, the 4-5-1 formation sucked. It reaaally sucked. Goodness me. So much for being defensive that match that mah man Bochog did not get enough touches to the ball because some fcking attacking midfielder named Onyok did not provide him enough space to work on. My goodness. But well, matches are matches themselves, our substitutes Fizzy, Fitri and MMM did well to prevent the blue freaking lions from scoring additional goals. Not to mention the Mattijanaishtani-or-whatever-they-call media called our team Flindostan. F-L-I-N-DOSTAN. Freaking Flindostan.

Okay so there went the first match and now let's go dissect what happened after that. Facing elimination.. well not yet since it was possible for the third place team to advance.. we beat N&N! Wait, is that a brand of chocolate candy that tastes like mud? Oh well.. the tinkering from a 4-5-1 to a 4-3-3 worked wonders, but Bochog didn't start. Was not his fault at the first place. Geez. His replacements though performed well in the forward role. King actually scored his free kick special - I knew this kid will be one of the key players of our beloved team amarite (am I right)? The second goal was scored by Fizzy - and both of these goals were scored in the freaking first half. The subs though didn't feature much when they entered the fray later in the game - Siharto and Mohd Safri. If they are coasting after a 2-0 lead in the second half, why would Gerry bring them later than expected. Geezus.

They kept the 4-3-3 in their third game against Islana Lunigo - only Bochog replaced Estong in that lineup. Result? No goals for either team. I wanted the Pula Garuda to win that one but the creativity, or lack thereof of Hasna Aryanto led to her substitution by Onyok, who did not have enough time to make a huge impact in the game. Other subs would be MMM and Rai Sanada, but a rather dull match gave them a goalless draw. And hey, we advanced to the knockout stages... and what Will did? He put back his formation to a 4-5-1 and restored his usual starters. Fcking geezer.

In fairness, Bochog scored his first goal for the Pula Garuda against the hosts, no less. In the fifth fcking minute. We kept it physical at the backlines. It was not enough. Mattijana scored and before we knew it, the passion in the players burned out. 120 minutes of grevious dullness and a penalty shootout to forget for Buknoy. He made a key mistake in Mattijana's goal, and he blundered his penalty kick that should have been equalize the score at 4-4. Instead, the hosts advanced and we're out of it. Even when Willy the petmalu guy brought on MMM, Aryanto and Rai Sanada later on to prvovide fresh legs, the players were really dead tired. Maybe they did not expect the match to drag on for a half-an-hour and more whatnot.

Today marks the Pula Garuda's entry to the Baptism of Fire, and they are now in Barunia for the tournament. As I could care to see the team sheet the FFF now is called sent, I can see.. so many young... and younger players. What is Willy the Petmalu fcking thinking? What did he see in these players to deserve a callup? Private Ryan? Putting Damaris at the start? Really now.. At least they called Alex Jampang up to displace the kid named Buknoy to the substitutes bench. As for the new players the jury is still out and we'll see their performances in the coming matches. Last time I heard the friendly matches before this tournament didn't happen. They were all rescheduled after the tournament when the team is entering the qualis. Git Gud. Golem get ye gone.

By the way, the new kits from New Nonsense, oh sorry. That's No Nonsense for you. The new kits are spankingly better than the hideous generic kits the worn last time they were out on the pitch. Reaaly. Seriously.

Until next time, members of ADS and Anniesaur-world, WERPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

2nd place finish in BoF 66. There's more to come! Hopefully..
Your young don from Southwest London and I bang out 410, AM Skengdo, 1011 and a host of UK drill artists. You probably thought I was Canadian 'cause of my nation's name and flag, but I am actually Ugandan and I live in London.
Hosted the inaugural STIC, and a domestic newswire up and running. They will be a few more soon...
And remember guys, Toronton is Singular, South Toronton is an Adjective, and Torontons is Plural! Also, the USST is an abbreviation of Unified Socialist States of South Toronto, and apart from marijuana and abortion being legal, and our environmental policies, in no way does this nation reflect my RL views.

The flag is based on the proposed US coat of arms from 1776. These arms were designed by Pierre Eugene du Simitiere for the First Committee to be used the on the Great Seal in 1776. Formation: Theoretically 4-4-2. In reality our players will either almost all fall back to our own box or chase after the ball like sheep. Most have only played five aside and some have never kicked a ball at all so our formation is really a formality.

In the goal:
Obese William
Formerly just Chubby William, Obese William is, as described, the biggest person on the island with quite a few houses, and if he goes to the island with not many houses at all he’d be the biggest person there. Whilst it may be harsh to mock him, William tends to take it on one of his chins, and what he lacks in athleticism he makes up for in fearlessness and heft.

At the Back in the middle:

Soggy James and Relatively Dry James.

Soggy James and Relatively Dry James are the only two people to share a name in the whole country, thus named because Soggy James is a well known accidental spiller of drinks. Hopefully he doesn’t spill the ball to the opposition.

At the Back on the sides:

Woman Dave (on the left)
Old Granny Sherry (on the right)

Woman Dave has a kind face but quick feet. Wife of Daddy Dave and brother of Flat cap Dave she’s one of the famous Dave clan, true stalwarts of the community. Rumour has it she has never not been without a cardigan and an emergency lozenge.

Old Granny Sherry is older than time some say, others say she’s about 80, and has carried the overpowering smell of fortified wine with her for almost as long. Some say she was born old, some say she’s immortal and others say she’s pickling her internal organs. Will this affect her on the pitch? Only she knows (it will).

In the Middle on the sides:

Friar Johnathan (Captain and on the right)
Cool Simon (On the left)

These two, despite very different demographic appeal, is like peas in a pod. Friar Johnathan is the parish holy man, leader of the community and captain of the side as well as our effective manager. He always has the best ideas, like playing three across the back or putting freshly cooked spaghetti on your head to keep warm. The islands hope he can bring them to victory. Cool Simon, meanwhile, is one cool bean, he’s always worn sunglasses, even in utero, and he has never even sneezed because that’d engender a bad vibe. He’ll glide up the wing and set up attacks (if we get that far).

In the Middle of the Middle:

Daddy and Diddy Dave

Two of the Famous Dave clan: Daddy Dave is fat, bald and loveable and about 52. He always smells like old fag smoke, lager and dish soap and he has a heart of gold. His dear son Diddy Dave is one quick mover and these two should partner well.

Upfront

Crinkly Joe and Herman the Hermit

These two characters are both residents of the island with slightly fewer houses and both claim to live in caves (they totally don’t though). They also despise each other, with both claiming to be official island hermit and vying for the tourist money it brings in. Both tells big fibs about each other, Crinkly Joe says Herman secretly covers all the islands phones in phlegm (true, but so does Joe), whilst Herman claims Joe secretly stole all the islands frying pans in the great frying pan shortage of 72 (maybe true?) Hopefully this provides some creative energy, it may just cause a mess (it’ll cause a mess).

ON THE BENCH

This lot form the backup for our main squad. They have no fixed position and will probably just come on for whoever's tired.

Cuddly Samantha: Has never forgotten anyone's birthday.
Girl Dave: Is a full 11 and 3/4s years old.
Red Peter: Always nude, always covered in red paint.
Saucy Adam: One total charmer.
Stinky Sheila: Has a love of cheese that exceeds reason.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes (Must be silly and non-fatal)
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes (Within reason)
Godmod other events: Yes (Only kill innocent bystander please).

Style mod = -5

Important procedural note: Due to the fact that no-one responded to an SOS to replace Traffia, and giving that we're now at the stage where moving the groups around would screw everyone up, I have made the decision not to remove Traffia from the tournament. Removals should not be made after the group draw is put up - I believe there is acceptable precedent for this.

Baptism of Fire 66: Pula Garuda rue missed chances as tournament debut goes out of hand

BAYVIEW - The view around the Bayview Stadium might have been the best views in the country, but the Filindostan national football team's performance in their first match was beyond unwatchable at worst. Losing 1-0 to The Steel Coast was not at their list of plans, and now they have to win their remaining games if they want to have a shot of making it out of the group stages.

Harrison Farias scored the lone goal for the Steel Tusks and they never looked back in this game after scoring in the thirty-sixth minute. It could have been worse for the Filindostanis after almost conceding a second goal, thanks to a miscommunication between Gerry and Alex Jampang that allowed winger Long Squires to snatch the ball and almost poke a goal beyond Gerry. Luckily for him, the ball went wide for a goal kick.

Almost everyone in the defense had an off=day, save for Mila Khalifa, whose honest defense almost troubled Squires during his escapades at the left flank. Unfortunately, Dina Satyawan had a very uncharacteristic game, committing to tackle attackers and missing or mistiming them, causing an early yellow for her troubles. One of those mishaps led to the solitary goal of the game, when she mistimed her charge towards Sol Barela which enabled the midfielder to pass the ball onside to a waiting Farias to the goalmouth.

The attack crew of the Pula Garuda could have done anything to save the match, but the strikers kept misfiring the entirety of the first half. Bienvenido, earning his first cap for Filindostan, obviously had butterflies in his stomach, as he netted zero shots on target, despite taking the ball as many times as he wanted, which totaled eight shots. He was the first player to be subbed out by Willy Gurnawan, replaced by Tri Buana in the 61st minute. Damaris was also largely anonymous, with his runs almost amounted to nothing. Private Ryan entered the field to replace the Tanjung Pagi wingman in the 65th, but even he had a worse time on the pitch, getting a yellow ten seconds after play resumed.

Filindostan were lucky that no one was sent off during the match. The referee was a trigger-happy man in terms of card-giving, thinking that it is already Christmas or Valentine's Day - he gave Filindostan six yellow cards at the course of the match - Alex Jampang, King, Bochog and Gerry received yellows in the match, and King was lucky not to be sent off as his antics almost triggered the referee to get his red card in the 87th minute. He was replaced by Siharto and will most likely not to feature in the Pula Garuda's second match.

Willy has it all to do to get Filindostan back on track for progression to the Round of 16 in this Baptism of Fire tournament.

Nation Overjoyed at First Ever Victory

SAM GARCIA FIELD, NORTHPORT-SAN BAPTISTE- Savvy supporters of Il azzuroj knew better than to get their hopes up. Despite the recent wave of foreign attention on our national league from investors hoping to make a quick buck off of a desperate and exploitable population, we have no real national football history to speak of. It would truly be a baptism of fire when we faced off with Nekodemus at the spiritual home of Barunian football. Win or lose, Sam Garcia Field- famous for being a "ground of firsts" to the local populace, would be a ground of first for Isula Reale as well.

The firsts began 22 minutes in, and it was an ominous first for Il azzuroj when the Nekodemus centre-forward created acres of space by beating a diving Istèvene Silvio and springing for a rampaging left winger, a step faster than Dylan Virdis. The winger wound up one on one with Simone Eleazaro and had no trouble blasting it past to make it 1-0, the first goal conceded in Isula Reale history. The defensive breakdowns were a result of a high line and an...overeagerness that no doubt comes from a lack of footballing knowledge, and to neutral observers it seemed like it could have been the first in a rush of goals from Nekodemus.

Isula Reale weathered the storm and wound up with their first real chance in the 31st minute with some intuitive passing up the left wing, breaking down defenders and creating a high quality chance in the box for Simone Malakia, but a strong save by the Nekodemus keeper pushed it over the crossbar. The ensuing corner kick went nowhere, and set pieces were a major weak point for Il azzuroj all throughout, a definite sign of their footballing immaturity. Another such sign came just a few moments later when Lucia Puggioni was easily dispossessed by a high-pressing attacking midfielder from Nekodemus who was able to rattle off a strong shot from close distance, but Eleazaro was able to make a confident save to keep the score at 1-0.

Enejo Romanacce's half time team talk must have been inspiring, all talk about the glory of playing for your nation and how important this match is, because the boys in blue came out singing in the second half. A strong and splendid run from Jozefo Marko drew seemingly miles of open space on the left side of the box for a confident run from Martino Elekta, who was fed with a low cross that he was able to trap and then blast into the right side of the net with a tip from the Nekodemus keeper to make it 1-1. Our first ever goal! The ball seemed to stay glued to Realean feet from that point forward, and while the free kicks were routinely poor, they were able to eventually make the most of their possession in the 79th minute when substitute Adamo Villanueva put away the winner by pouncing on a loose ball in the box that deflected off a Nekodemus defender as a result of a Marko shot. 2-1 to the good guys, and our first ever win.

3 Thoughts
-Overnight television ratings were through the roof for this match, the most watched program in national history. The sponsors and the foreign businesspeople who have invested in the Ligera Najionale must be elated. It's easy to extract too much from one data point, but a strong performance in this tournament seems like it may elevate local football to a level higher than even expected.

-The back line needs a LOT of time to gel. Communication issues abound throughout the match (especially in the first half) and Romanacce must be especially thankful they only cost the team one goal. It will be interesting to see whether he opts to switch up the team in order to find a group that works, or if this foursome is his "first choice" and he'd rather let them develop the chemistry. A win relieves a lot of pressure, because it may only take one more good result to ensure at least one more match.

-Nicolo Sulpicio didn't get onto the scoresheet but he was one of the better players on the pitch. He has a tremendous motor and was all over the pitch, dropping very far deep for ball recoveries and would also push way out wide to draw defenders away and create space. However, he will have to indicate a greater interest in scoring in order to justify starting out up front, otherwise defenders will catch on that it's less critical to keep on him- most of his passes were very short and focused on ball retention.
