The Imperan Rugby is the immediate sucessor of the Tri-Nations agreement. After the disband of previous board, the new terms of the rugby organization in the Imperan League were proposed at a meeting held in Gast, Aristian Republic, shortly after the June tests.

One union, two tiers
Taking into account the difference of organization, media and money intake between the two NSRB nations and the other nations, it was decided to establish a two-tier system. Tier 1 will be permanently composed by Lisander and Alice Bay, while Grand Merina, Lorenthia, Aristian Republic and Ariannin will be part of Tier 2.

A special type of promotion and relegation
In order to allow lesser-known nations to evolve at their own pace, but having contact with the more expressive nations, a promotion system has been defined where the best Tier 2 nation will play matches against Tier 1 nations.

The Imperan Cup and the IRU Trophy
The Imperan Cup is the most important tournament of Imperan Rugby. It will be held anually, during the test season, between the Irises, the Crux and the IRU Trophy Champion. Champion and runner-up retain its NSRB privileges, and third-placed is relegated to Tier 2 for the next season.

The IRU Trophy will follow the same system. The four nations play in a Round Robin tournament and the champion is qualified to the next Imperan Cup.

Lisander: The LRU is the most sucessful of the Imperan Unions. The professionalism is in an advanced state, with a Professional League running each year, as well as open tournaments spread throughout the year. Lisander is also one the NSRB Executive Board members.

Alice Bay: Long time rivals of Lisander and the most ancient union of the Imperan League, is also a Ranked NSRB member, a little behind the Irises. Alice Bay have a professional league, but based in unions instead of clubs, and with less money involved.

Tier 2 North, Aristian Republic and Lorenthia: The former Kingdom of Aristia have a successful Olympic experience and a considerable amount of sponsors, while Lorenthia have a strong national team but a weak league comparing with the Aristians. Both nations agreed, in the foundation act of Imperan Rugby, to fund a semi-pro multinational league with teams of both nations.

Tier 2 South, Ariannin and Grand Merina: These two nations are the weakest of the union. Rugby is a traditional sport in Ariannin, but considering the limited dimensions of the City-State, there's no way to develop a professional league system. They have lots of traditional clubs, that usually field club members in occasional "beer leagues". Grand Merina, on the other hand, have a good generation of players in the early twenties. Beach Rugby is popular and most of local players live on coastal cities. Merinean Rugby heavily depends on public support.

Competitions

Nations Level

Imperan Cup
The main competition of the Imperan Rugby encompasses the Princess Alice Trophy on its games. Lisander, Alice Bay and the champions of the last IRU Trophy play for two spots in next NSRB Rugby World Cup.

IRU Trophy
A tournament for all Imperan nations except Lisander/Alice Bay. It provides fair competition to less-experienced nations.

Mixed Level

ABSA Ariannin Sevens
A spring sevens event to teams around the Imperan League, second national teams and invitational teams supported by rich companies. It is anually hosted by local amateur rugby clubs.

LARFC Sevens
The new LRU tournament, held during the Lisander Rugby Festival (together with URSA Sevens), will be an open cup for every interested player, and a point of convergence between Imperan Rugby and NSRB teams. Since Imperan Rugby (based on quality) keeps Lisander and Alice Bay as its qualifiers for NSRB competitions*, this is the opportunity for other Imperan Rugby nations/teams to pley in high level.

Club Level

PRO12
The first division of Lisanderian Rugby. It shares the position of "first-level" national tournament with Nacional de Clubes and its finalists earn spots to compete in the Rugby Union Champions Trophy (aka SEASOGS). The feeder competition for the PRO12 is the LRU Championship, national second division.

AMI Unions Cup
The highest level of competitive rugby in Alice Bay is divided in two divisions, with promotion and relegation, between the teams of districts. The league is actually Semi-pro, and players can receive part-time wages. Only the ABRU national teams players receive professional wages. AMI Premiers send champions and runners-up to Seasogs. The winner of Championship is promoted to AMI Premiers for the following season.

Super 8
Starting in NSRB Season 27, the Super 8 will be the first edition of the Multiassociational League of Imperan Rugby. As the name says, there will be 8 teams. For the first season, 4 from Aristian Republic, 3 from Lorenthia and one from Grand Merina. The plan of Super 8 Rugby Inc. is to expand the league further, involving more teams for next seasons.

Challenge League
A competition for clubs from Imperan Championships, will gather teams from PRO12, Unions Cup and Super 8 that doesn't reach NSRB Champions Trophy.

LRU Headquarters, Sauer Bulding, Marina Bay, Soria.

Lisander is the strongest of the Imperan Unions. The Lisander Rugby Union is the result of the Association between URSA (portuguese for Soria and Azhaar Rugby Union), SRU (Southwest Rugby Union) and URPA (portuguese for Principality of Ermines Rugby Union). and hosts its home games between EON Arena, in Despina, seat of SRU and URSA Park, in Soria, seat of URSA.

Image
Prior to 1990, the games between the three regional rugby unions were the peak of the Lisanderian Rugby. The four federations faced up once or twice a year, depending on the rule, and the leader of round robin between them won the Unions Cup and the title of national champion.

URSA
The União de Rugby de Soria e Azhaar; Soria and Azhaar Rugby Union is responsible for rugby in the national capital, Soria, and within its province. URSA has the oldest team of the Four Unions, The Roses. The Roses have the largest number of titles of the Unions Cup, 43 in all. The Irises captain, Andreas Linzmeyer, is also the current captain of the Roses.

SRU
The Sudoeste Rugby Union; Southwest Rugby Union is responsible for Rugby in the southern and southwestern region of Lisander. Founded three years after URSA, its historical rivalry with URSA is one more piece of the sports feud between the cities of the East and the West. The current captain of Iris XV is Cédric Carrasso, Loosehead Prop and Irises #1.

URPA
The União de Rugby do Principado dos Arminhos; Ermines Principality Rugby Union is responsible for Rugby in the northern half of Lisander. Although it covers more than half of the national territory, it is the weakest of the unions, since the area that encompasses has low population density. Eric Lasses, an Inside Centre from amateur team Sporting Grandeville, is the current captain.

A special case, the LAN
The Liga Académica Nacional; National Academic League is not a proper Union, because it does not have its own geographical jurisdiction. LAN is the National College Sports Association, responsible for the College Rugby under the authority of the LRU, and fields the Lisander Universities XV. Since it does not have a fixed team, there is no captain.

Lisander Universities XV won the Unions Cup in three ocasions.

Lisander national teams are called Quinze das Lises, or in english, "The Irises". The Irises Sevens recently won the Maracalo Cup on AVBF Sevens 3. The Lisander U-20 team (Junior Irises) won the U-20 Rugby Cup 1.

The origin of the "Irises"
Literally, the Lisanderian team should be called "Lys XV". But in Lisander, the words "Iris" and "Lys" are theoretically synonymous. The Iris pseudacorus, LRU badge, is commonly called "Fleur de Lys". In 1924, in the first tour of Lisander to Alice Bay, A local reporter looked at the jersey and translated the team name as "The Irises". Soon, it was widespread on the media, and it was accepted by the LRU.

The Main Uniform for Lisander National Rugby Teams is a green jersey with yellow trims, white shorts and green socks, and the Alternate is usually white jersey with green trims, green shorts and white socks.

Semi-Final Qualifiers

1. Monforzh Rugby 31 - 19 Harlequins
Parque dos Leões, Salácia

The game at Parque dos Leões got really good. The home team occupied the space well, leaving the Quins only to hunt a ball out. And at 8' Monforzh took advantage of a sloppy drop kick to open the score, making 7-0 with a try in the middle of the posts and a perfect conversion. But it did not stop there. Although the Harlequins continued to try to react, the Monforzh line did not let anything pass. But the home team also could not pass, so tried to score kicking. And they did it. At 28 minutes, with a Drop Goal, Monforzh opened 10-0. But after the second score suffered, the Harlequins returned to the game. The team took advantage of the kickoff to gain territory and in 38 minutes, in a ball from the right, came the first try, but the wind was hard at the time of conversion and they haven't scored. Wasted opportunity, Monforzh went there and scored another one, in the last play of the first half. Ball in the middle, when the Fullback opponent arrived it was already too late. The first half ended 17-5 for the owners of the house.

On the way back to the second half, the Harlequins were better. With long kicks and speed, they came in at 17-12 with 46 minutes, with a try behind the posts, impossible to don't be converted. The game was undefined. Harlequins tried to keep the ball away, but Monforzh took advantage of the few spaces thet had, kicking forward and sending to the side. At 57' they scored again, this time a try well in the left corner, increasing the difference to 12 points again. At 68, in a bid very similar to the previous try, Harlequins scored again, narrowing the gap to 24-19. The last 10 minutes were electrifying. Monforzh even had a player expelled trying to avoid the Quins 12-phases advance, and knowing their own field, they scored the try that secured the victory in the 80 '. Final result, Monforzh 31-19 Harlequins. Monforzh in the semifinal and Quins once again, getting by the way.

2. Despina Crusaders 28 - 17 Hárpias RC
Estádio Comunal de Argos, Despina

The game between Crusaders and Harpias started well, but after the tenth minute of play, the speed and the passing game of the Despina team began to appear. At 21', the Crusaders scored the first try, in an easy ball from the right. And the defence of the Harpies did not react well, because at 25', the Crusaders scored again, this time in a clear failure of defence. The wing of the green team did everything right, and at that time they were winning by 14-0. However, at 29', after a high tackle in front of the posts, Crusaders allowed visitors to score their first points in a Penalty kick. 14-3. But it was not even the day of the Harpy defence. One more positioning failure and at 32, the Crusaders scored another try, raising the score to 21-3, and could have been even more if they did not lose a Penalty Kick at 40'.

The second half began with the visitors snapping, and after an Unsuccessful Drop Goal, the Harpies surrounded the Fullback of the Crusaders, who fumbled the ball into the in-goal. The Grivnians attack only had to touch the ball on the ground. The conversion that followed reduced the difference to 12 points at 55 minutes. However, the Harpies' greatest handicap was the defence, and many lost passes meant more time defending. The Crusaders were pushing all the time and at 74', the pressure took effect with another try. 28-10. With the game set, only remained the consolation try to Harpias, in the last game action. 28-17 and Crusaders in the semifinal.

No Soria team in the semifinals. Could this be the start of a crisis in URSA? We don't know, but good old Soria Park appeared, at least, as a venue.

Linville Athletic was promoted to the Pro12. Due to financial issues, there is not yet a third division in Lisander. Mont-Saint-Martin keeps on LRU Championship.

NOTICE

I was mugged last night, and of course it was a horrible experience. I'm still nervous, so I'm going to rest for a few days before returning to NS Sports. I finished Pro12 just because I started. Alice Bay Unions cup is still uncertain.

Unions Cup

Alice Bay started its international Rugby Plan based on Lisander example. But Alice Bay is three times smaller. Alice Bay has only 2.4 million inhabitants (RP Data). Is a nation with the size of a small metropolis. Considering this fact, is virtually impossible to have a Professional Championship, since all teams are amateurs. Sponsoring contracts are usually small, enough only to help buying uniforms and pay for travels. And only when the team have a sponsor. Most of the time, the players have to pay from their pockets to play in amateur tournaments.

The Plan of ABRU consists in sponsoring the Unions of the 12 districts, with part of the money of their sponsors, Liniers and AMI.

Campeonato Nacional de Primavera

PostPosted: Sun Apr 22, 2018 10:51 am
by Lisander
Campeonato Nacional de Primavera is the first tournament of the year and is known as a chance for small teams achieve great results. It also counts as a National Championship, theoretically equal to PRO12. This season, Nacional reached the 75th edition.

Image

And the surprise of the edition was a "giant killing"! From the small town of Kíria, The Wasps (a team playing with mismatched socks in the early stages) reached the finals against the almighty and Irises-filled Victorian Rugby. In the URSA Park, the Crimson had Maximiliano Luna, Henrique Domani e Kennedy Olson. Against a bunch of minimum wage players, playing a dream. A Yellow and Black Dream. But before turn back to this story, let's give a look at regular season.

The surprise of the noblest championship of Lisander was Hárpias. The team from Grivniya, led by Ilie Scarlat, finished the Top 14 with impressive 16 wins, same as powerful Victorian Rugby, but one more draw gave the Roses Cup to the Harpies. Victorian, Soria Blues and Shamrocks also secured way to National Finals. Too bad for Harlequins, who fielded a great team but hadn't found themselves on the field.

On the other half of Lisander, the one that doesn't breathe rugby 24/7, the Southwestern Rugby and the Principality of Ermines Union once more played together, in the Torneio do Interior (Country Championship). And the expected victory of the Despina teams didn't come. Without Kevin Armada, that left for Neu Engollon (with a brief appearance in Aristian Rugby), Saracens weren't the same and only qualified as fourth, behind Club Sparta, the surprise of the season Wasps, and Pines Athletic.

Campeonato de Rugby da Liga Académica Nacional
National Academic League Rugby Championship

The National Academic League Rugby Championship is the equivalent of the Campeonato Nacional de Clubes. Organized by LAN, with the consent of the LRU, it has twenty-two teams, divided between two Divisions. The Metropolitan division is the stronger and has 12 teams, four of them from the University of Soria: Direito Soria (Law School), HIS Rugby (Degree in History), Med Soria (Medical School) and Engenharia Rugby (Engineering School).
Other featured teams are URSA Rose University Juniors and Trinity College Juniors, both teams intended to develop players to Professional League: The first one is an initiative of URSA to give players from team academies an opportunity in University, while the second is a University who also has a professional team, playing the LRU Championship (professional second division).
With less expression, the National Division have only ten teams, with the Universidade of Sudoeste (USD) and University of Saint Michael Archangel (USMA), both from Despina, the most known of them.

Regular Season
Teams in each division play for six spots in Finals: Metropolitan Division have three, National Division have two, and the sixth spot being contested in a playoff between 4th-placed in Metropolitan and 3rd-placed in National.

Top 12

Lisander Rugby gone through a slight rebrand for the league this season. Starting after the historic campaign of Rugby World Cup, where Irises finished third, the First Division was renamed to Top 12, considering two facts. Firstly, Lisander is incontestably one of the top nations in Rugby Union in this moment, and secondly, first division isn't more the only professional division in the Principality. And it wasn't the only change in the league. The arrival of some international players, like Marcel Lebrun (joining Harlequins under a millionaire contract) and Nathan Cross (St. Helens) from Nova Anglicana, as well as Neu Engollonian Andre Callenzo (Victorian), gave a new breath to the competition. The unofficial start of the competition was the presentation of Marcel Lebrun, with a game between his previous team, Sept-Iles Chanteclairs, and his new team, Harlequins.

Pre-Season Friendly:
Harlequins 14–25 Sept-Iles Chanteclairs¹
URSA Park
