New to Sports RPing or the WBC?

First, if you’re new to the NS Sports forum, I strongly encourage you read the Guide to Sports Roleplaying. I will mostly try to explain the differences between the WBC and other NS Sports tournaments in this section, and the guide does an excellent job of giving new participants a general idea of what to do and how tournaments generally work.

For those of you who want me to simply get to the basics, the first thing I’ll cover is the roster. A roster is a list of the names of your players and what positions they play; but if you want, you can post other information as well. This can include, but certainly isn’t limited to: handedness (for batting and throwing), strengths and weaknesses, statistics, and performances in previous tournaments or in your own domestic leagues. Other common elements of a good roster include images and information on stadium(s) your team uses, uniforms, and coaching staff.

Second, the Designated Hitter (DH) Rule is an aspect that is unique to baseball here on NS Sports. In short, the DH rule allows for teams to designate a player to bat for their pitcher, generally giving teams more flexibility when at bat. For more information on the DH rule and its implementation, please refer to the Wikipedia article on the subject, as it goes into far more detail than I can here. In regards to the WBC, the DH rule is only used if the home team uses a DH. If the home team does not use a DH, neither team will use the DH, regardless of the away team’s preference. If the home team has not specified (in their roster or an RP) whether they use a DH or not, the first participant to RP will dictate the use/nonuse of the DH in that game.

Finally, the RP Permissions box is an essential part of participating in any tournament. The idea of the box is to let your opponents know what you are willing to allow them to do, and what you aren’t willing to allow them to do. This includes injuries, lineup changes, the use of a DH, ejections, etc. Please post the following somewhere in your roster when you post one:

Code: Select all
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes/No
Choose my lineup: Yes/No
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes/No
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Eject my players: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No
Use DH at home: Yes/No

Scorination

Line scores will be posted but they do not need to be used. However, the final score must be the same. If your opponent RPs first, you must follow the same line score they used (whether it’s the one posted by me or one they made up).

Games will be scorinated between 10:00 and 11:30 PM EDT (02:00-03:30 UTC) each day unless otherwise noted. Participants should assume the cutoff will be at the earlier end of that window regardless of the previous day's cutoff time. Should the time frame or schedule need to be changed, I will try to give no less than one day’s warning before this.

LONELY MULTIVERSE
The Approx Guide to the Equestrian States

Introduction

The Pony Principality of Equestrian States is a diverse country inhabited by several dozen sapient species, each contributing to the nation's proud culture of tolerance and giving the Equestrian States a reputation of compassion and kindness. Tradition and innovation have combined well in this North Pony Lands nation, rapidly bringing it into the modern world after centuries of self-imposed isolation from the rest of the multiverse. This Lonely Multiverse travel guide is designed to be the ultimate companion for any tourist (regardless of their species) visiting the Equestrian States, and is loaded with every tip and bit of advice one needs to have an safe and enjoyable stay.

History

Originally colonized by sapient equines (commonly referred to as ponies) from Magical Equestria over 2000 years ago, the Equestrian States was first established as a largely-autonomous overseas territory of its motherland. As a colony, the Equestrian States was fairly prosperous, developing a matriarchal society similar to that of Magical Equestria and other prominent Pony Lands nations. Several decades after the first ponies set hoof on the islands now part of the Equestrian States, however, the rise of a mysterious and chaotic entity known as Discord led to the government of the growing colony to adopt strict isolationist policies to avoid attracting the attention of Discord.

Several centuries later, the anarchic reign of Discord in the Pony Lands came to an end, though the Equestrian States remained firmly entrenched in its isolationist policies. Having formally declared its independence from Magical Equestria during the rule of Discord, the Equestrian States was reluctant to turn away from the policies which had allowed it to escape the turmoil faced by the rest of the region. Yet another cataclysmic event, just over a millennia ago, saw the known world embroiled in conflict with itself and the fledgling former colony sunk deeper into isolation for the next several centuries.

However, about 200 years ago, the long-standing policies separating the Equestrian States from the rest of the region gradually began to erode with the rapid growth of international maritime trade. Though it would take until just 50 years ago for the remaining isolationist policies to be overturned or made obsolete, foreigners began to take note of the Equestrian States and its northern location in the Pony Lands. What finally drove the ponies of the Equestrian States to abandon isolationism entirely was commerce, with the nation's location being perfect as a refueling and stopping point for ships traveling from outside the Pony Lands.

Active membership in the Coalition of Ponyist States (a military, economic, and political alliance famed for its quick, efficient, and merciless dealings with nations actively persecuting sapient equines and other non-humans) gave the Equestrian States reason to become heavily involved in international politics and trade. Within a decade, the Equestrians entered the modern era, utilizing magic in creative ways to avoid industrial pollution wherever possible and speed the nation's development.

Today, the Equestrian States is an advanced country that has successfully merged tradition, magic, and technology. With an economy dominated by tourism, agriculture, and the mining of precious minerals, the Equestrians have found their niche in the international community. Thanks to its location in the Pony Lands, the Equestrian States has become a travel hub for many visiting the region from around the world, and the nation is easily among the more prosperous and safe for foreigners to visit.

Geography & Climate

The Equestrian States is best described as an island nation. However, most Equestrians live on the largest island, which is referred to by locals as the mainland, due to its size and role as a population and commercial center for the country.

The mainland is mostly flat grassland and plains, though forests and hilly areas exist and are generally scattered throughout the island. Running north to south are the Harmony Mountains, named for Mt. Harmony near the capital city of Canterlot. The mountain range divides the mainland into eastern and western geographic regions, and was once home to dozens of active volcanoes. However, no eruption has occurred in the Harmony Mountains in over 800 years, and the range is believed to be inactive. The ancient volcanic activity on the mainland (and on many of the Equestrian States' smaller islands, as well) resulted in mineral deposits from which Equestrian miners have extracted gold, silver, and other valuable materials for export.

Two notable exceptions to the mainland's grassy majority are the Everfree Forest and Southern Desert. The Everfree Forest is more of a jungle than a temperate forest, and is widely considered the most dangerous region in the Equestrian States due to its large numbers of wild carnivorous species, some of which would be considered "mythical" by foreigners. Within the Everfree Forest is the city of Everfree, located along the banks of the Stampede River and home to the largest population of non-equines in the nation. A number of more typical temperate forests surround the Everfree Forest itself.

The Southern Desert is (as one might expect) a dry region located in a small pocket of flat land surrounded by the Harmony Mountains near the southern coast. The only major population center in the Southern Desert is the small city of Appleoosa, located in what could be considered by some as a cooler oasis.

But where things begin to get weird for the average tourist is the Equestrian States' weather. Due to the magical nature of many of its inhabitants, the Equestrians are fully capable of creating, manipulating, and otherwise controlling the clouds and weather. This gives them the ability to determine where and when in rains, snows, hails, or any other . The Equestrian government is very actively involved in coordinating the pegasai of the country to generate and control weather patterns favorable to the Equestrian States inhabitants (and its many farmers, in particular). As such, the odds of an Equestrian weatherpony giving an incorrect forecast are almost nonexistent, unless you happen to be in the Everfree Forest (the only region of the Equestrian States where the weather is practically impossible to control due to a prevalence of wild magic).

Travel

Travelling to the Equestrian States is generally easy, as most methods of interregional travel are available to visitors from outside the Pony Lands. Most international flights to the Equestrian States arrive at Canterlot's Harmony International Airport, but other regularly-used airports such as Manehattan's Royal International and Stalliongrad's Friendship Heights International are easy to find flights to. However, it should be noted that pilots flying to and from the Equestrian States internationally must receive additional certification due to the nature of the Equestrian States and much of the Pony Lands. Because of this additional requirement for pilots, some airlines do charge extra to cover the training fees.

Another common way of reaching the States is via sea. Manehattan's seaport is among the most active in the North Pony Lands, and isn't located far from the heart of the Equestrian States' largest city.

Once in the Equestrian States, there are many other options for travel. Rental cars, taxis, and busses are easy to find in the larger cities such as Manehattan, Stalliongrad, and Everfree, though one might notice that most vehicles are electric-powered. But while cars and busses are regularly used in some cities, there are also several in which their use is limited to emergency services (most notably in Ponyville and Canterlot's Old City district) or is totally banned (as is the case in Cloudsdale).

However, the limited use of automobiles is balanced out by the proliferation of trains for travel between and within cities. Some of the more prominent and historical lines (such as the Ponyville-Canterlot Express) still use steam-powered engines or high-speed trains designed to mimic the classical appearance of an Equestrian train. Subways are also a common feature in Equestrian cities, spreading underground to connect many places of interest for foreign tourists. Cloudsdale is the only city where cars, buses, and trains/subways are unavailable.

But in the end, the most common method of travel in the Equestrian States is one's own two feet (or whatever you have to walk on). Few Equestrians drive or use public transportation unless they have to, preferring to take in the clean air on their way from place-to-place.

Culture & Society

Religion

Any analysis of Equestrian culture and society must begin with its majority religion and guiding philosophy: Harmonism. A dualistic religion, it revolves around the physical sun and moon deities, Celestia and Luna, as well as the six principles known as the Elements of Harmony. The religion's origins are near-impossible to determination, though it is widely believed to begun shortly after ponykind first encountered Celestia and Luna over two millennia ago. Unlike other religions, Harmonism lacks a written scripture or centralized multiversal organization to create such writings, occasionally resulting in disagreements between Harmonists from different regions. For the sake of brevity, we will only be exploring the most common spiritual and secular beliefs held by those from the Equestrian States.

As stated earlier, the central beliefs of Harmonism include the worship of the Regal Sisters (Celestia and Luna) and adherence to the Elements of Harmony. Celestia and Luna are the two Princess rulers of distant Magical Equestria, though Luna has (in recent years) begun to spend considerable time aiding the C'tan in preserving peace throughout the Pony Lands. Immortal and, according to spiritual Harmonists, capable of moving celestial bodies through magic, the two Regal Sisters are worshiped (or at least respected) by ponies throughout the multiverse as living goddesses. Some have recently begun to question the actual power of the Sisters, though it is widely accepted among ponykind that they are the two most powerful magical beings in existence.

The six Elements of Harmony are Honesty, Laughter, Kindness, Generosity, Loyalty, and Magic. These Elements exist both as philosophical concepts as well as physical objects capable of great power that contain the purest magical essence of the aforementioned virtues. The philosophical aspects of the Elements are more central to Harmonist faith as a set of morals to guide one throughout life. They are, for the most part, fairly self-explanatory, except for Magic. The sixth element has been connected not only to the ability of equine Harmonists to use magical spells, but also to the drive for new knowledge or understanding. It also has been connected to the power of friendship, and is mentioned in the most common Harmonist saying: "Friendship is Magic".

However, Harmonism has expanded from its spiritual roots (particularly as more non-equines are exposed to harmonist teachings) to become a secular philosophy as well. Secular Harmonists generally try to follow the virtues of Harmonism, though they generally do not believe that the Regal Sisters are physical goddesses. The expansion of Secular Harmonism has also led to the traditional virtues being adopted and woven into other religions as well, such as Christianity. Excluding the overwhelmingly Spiritual Harmonist equine population of the Equestrian States, the most common religion is Harmonist Christianity, which is especially popular among the human inhabitants of the nation.

Language

Traditionally, ponies have spoken in their native Equestrian tongue which is common throughout the Pony Lands. However, since the emergence of the Equestrian States into the international community, laws have been passed requiring citizens to be capable of speaking multiple languages. The most common non-Equestrian language is easily English, which is spoken by approximately two-thirds of the population. It should be noted that some English words have been altered by Equestrians to better fit the equine majority, as the use of "everypony", "anypony", "hoofball", and other such words are modifications of the more standard English words. Mastery of many different languages is especially common among Unicorns, and as they are generally the ones more involved in business, are easy enough to find for foreign visitors. Numerous translating services exist throughout the Equestrian States, and airport bookstores generally contain a plethora of multilingual dictionaries for purchase.

Food

As one might expect from a nation dominated by a species of herbivores, many traditional Equestrian dishes are vegetarian in nature. The proliferation of such food is also furthered by the general lack of agriculture for the purpose of raising up animals for the slaughter. To hurt another living creature is, to many Equestrians, simply unthinkable. However, the Equestrian States is not only inhabited by equines, but also by griffons, dragons, and humans (among others). Restaurants do exist to cater to these non-equine species, and do serve a wide variety of meats imported from outside of the region. That being said, it would be unwise to be seen in public eating a hamburger made from beef or any other meat product as many Equestrians are disgusted by such foods. This can make finding food difficult in smaller cities and in the nicer areas of the larger ones. A general tip would be: if your waiter looks like a herbivore, don't ask them for a cheeseburger or steak. Equestrian cafes are fairly creative with what they can do with non-meat products, and the bread and pastries are oftentimes better than what you might find in other nations.

Drink in the Equestrian States also differs significantly from other nations around the multiverse, as the most common alcoholic beverage is hard cider, which can be found at virtually every bar, pub, and restaurant. Ponies generally refrain from drinking too heavily, but other non-human sapients such as griffons are known to consume vast quantities of alcohol in a single sitting. We advise our human readers to graciously decline any drinking challenges offered, as one is unlikely to win, and drunk griffons can be notoriously temperamental. Beer is a distant second to cider, in terms of both popularity and availability, though bars and eateries which cater to human tourists will often keep domestic Equestrian brands in stock.

Inter-Species Relations

As the Equestrian States is home to a wide range of species, it is practically impossible for any visitor to the country to avoid seeing a member of another species, regardless of where they might be. Unicorns could pull this off in certain neighborhoods of Canterlot, and Earth Ponies could do the same in isolated rural areas, though foreigners will often stumble across other species upon entry into the Equestrian States as customs officials are perhaps the most diverse Equestrian demographic.

Relations between the three major pony races have not always been smooth, and some tensions still exist today despite the educational system's teaching of acceptance and tolerance. However, inter-species violence is very rare within the Equestrian States, as is violence in general, with the possible exceptions coming from dragons, griffons, and other more naturally-aggressive species. Angering a dragon is about as dumb as it sounds, and is not advised unless one has a death wish.

Visitors to the Equestrian States are also advised to avoid appearing speciesist to locals, as Equestrian society could be described as having a herd mentality, where an attack against or insult towards one person might be considered an attack on all those around that person. Thus, some words to avoid using in the Equestrian States are: horse, mule, foal, or donkey. Calling a pony any of those terms is likely to result in a backlash towards the offending individual, as they are considered to be offensive unless one is actually speaking to a sapient horse or donkey, which are both easy to tell apart from ponies through their size and general lack of bright-colored fur or manes.

Host Cities for the 41st World Baseball Classic

Canterlot

Canterlot is the capital city of the Equestrian States and one of its oldest. Located on the steep slopes of Mt. Harmony and the surrounding lands, Canterlot has evolved over time into a burgeoning metropolis that reflects the qualities the nation that houses its government in the city. The capital’s traditional sophisticated architecture has been almost seamlessly blended with the more modern styles to make it perhaps the most visually-appealing cities in the Equestrian States.

Founded by the first wave of equine settlers that came to what is now the Equestrian States from Magical Equestria over a millennium ago, Canterlot was originally named New Canterlot as inspired by the capital of the settlers’ origin. However, when the then-colony was cut off from its mother country, the memories of the old Canterlot began to fade and the name was shortened to simply Canterlot. Contact with Magical Equestria after the Equestrian States emerged from isolation in the northernmost parts of the Pony Lands resulted in the existence of two Canterlots and the Equestrian Parliament briefly considered renaming the city again out of respect for its older cousin, but then decided against it.

By far, the best place to visit in Canterlot is Harmony Castle. One of the oldest structures in the Equestrian States, the castle was constructed by unicorn builders as part of the original colonization effort. Currently home to the royal family of the Equestrian States, Harmony Castle also houses Parliament’s formal meeting chambers and is a regular stop on most tourists’ stays in Canterlot. The castle is open to tours most days of the week, tickets for which should be acquired no less than one week prior to the tour date on the Castle’s official webpage.

The Venue: Royal Canterlot Stadium (cap. 55,000)
Located just several blocks from the massive Equestria Dome (the former home stadium of the Equestrian national hoofball team), Royal Canterlot Stadium is the largest baseball-only sports venue in the country. Although baseball is not the most popular sport in the Equestrian States, the stadium often draws near-sellout crowds throughout the National Equestrian Baseball League’s season due largely to the excellent quality of the field and the experience of going to a ballgame.

Cloudsdale

Cloudsdale’s name is no accident. Located literally in the clouds, over a million pegasai call the city their home. But, without a doubt, Cloudsdale’s most defining feature is what it is made from: clouds. Although most non-Equestrians would find this to be beyond bizarre, for the Equestrian States, the ability to control and manipulate clouds is something that pegasai have been doing for thousands of years using their own unique form of magic to sculpt cities such as Cloudsdale. Due to its nature, Cloudsdale can float from one location to another, but rarely is ever more than 35 kilometers from the outskirts of Ponyville, meaning that visitors whose teams are playing in Coudsdale can easily stay in Ponyville, which is less disorienting. Transportation to Cloudsdale is provided by the Equestrian Air Transport Authority via high-capacity air ships.

The cloud city was first founded by a group of pegasai colonists when the initial settlers landed on the Equestrian States’ main island over a millennium ago. For hundreds of years, the pegasai were the only creatures to inhabit the city as they were the only ones capable of using the clouds as solid material. Eventually, unicorn magicians were able to devise a spell that would enable other creatures to trot among the clouds with the pegasai in cities such as Cloudsdale. Such spells didn’t last any longer than a day, but the magic was slowly improved, allowing for a week to pass before the magic had to be recast. Visitors to Cloudsdale will require such spells to visit the city, but to those wishing to view games without having magic cast on them, there will be a couple air ships that will carry fans to watch the games from a slight distance.

Aside from its strange architecture, Cloudsdale offers numerous attractions to tourists interested in exploring the differing cultures of the three sapient equine species. One such site is the Cloudsdale Weather Factory, located near the edge of the city. There, pegasai employed by the Equestrian government manufacture the weather clouds that then bring rain to the surrounding farmlands. For tourists who are intrigued by the magical elements of the Equestrian States and the Pony Lands, this is a must-see. Also attracting tourists are the numerous look-out points spread along the edges of the city’s main cloud layer. From there, the lands surrounding Cloudsdale are clearly visible on most days, except when rain is scheduled.

The Venue: Sky-High Coliseum (cap. 45,000)
Normally used by the local hoofball clubs, the Cloudsdale Flyers and Cloudsdale Colts, Sky-High Coliseum is made almost entirely from clouds. For the World Baseball Classic, the stadium is being temporarily re-formed to accommodate the baseball teams that are expected to compete there. As was mentioned earlier in the guide, seating on air ships will be provided to a limited number of fans not comfortable with having magical spells cast on them.

Ponyville

Ponyville is among the most attractive cities in the Equestrian States, located west of the massive Everfree Forest (see the ‘Everfree’ entry in this guide for more details), and along the banks of the Mane River. A pleasant city that, like Canterlot, has incorporated the conveniences of the modern world with the traditional Equestrian city, Ponyville holds a growing role in the economy of the Equestrian States as a center of transportation between Canterlot, Everfree, Manehattan, and (to a degree) Cloudsdale. Its central location makes it an almost mandatory stop for any tourist visiting the western half of the Equestrian States mainland.

Originally a fairly common Equestrian village in the country during its long period of isolation from the rest of the Pony Lands, Ponyville has long been seen as the best example of the typical, picturesque, Equestrian town. However, with the Equestrian States’ emergence into the international scene, Ponyville’s location led to its quick development as a national travel hub. But, as opposed to most cities in other countries where transportation played a major role in growth, the efforts of the Equestrian government to maintain a relatively clean environment by creating a vast public transportation system, kept Ponyville from becoming a smog-choked city.

With Ponyville being a ‘green city,’ the surrounding rivers, forests, and grasslands are nearly as pristine now as they were when the town was first founded. This environmental beauty is only part of Ponyville’s appeal, which also comes from the small-town feel of the Old Town district. Having changed very little over the years, Ponyville’s Old Town is probably its best tourism revenue generator, as visitors can browse shops and other stores for small keepsakes and souvenirs. But the impact of sport cannot be forgotten when talking about Ponyville. The town has long been a relatively competitive force in Equestrian domestic leagues across multiple sports, and the most popular of these teams is the nation's most successful hoofball club, Ponyville United.

The Venue: Ponyville Park (cap. 32,000)
Located near the Ponyville Marina along the banks of the Mane River, Ponyville Park is among the more modern-looking venues that will be hosting playoff matches at the World Baseball Classic. Having been built with style in mind, Ponyville Park also boasts the distinction of being among the most visually attracting baseball fields the Equestrian States has to offer. Unless the Equestrian national team is involved, fans here are generally among the most civil in a nation that is famed for being accepting of most (if not all) foreign visitors. As long as an entertaining game is on, the denizens of Ponyville will be more than happy to cram themselves into the stadium.

Whitetail

The third smallest city in the Equestrian States that has a professional baseball team, Whitetail is a pleasant city that has even more of a small town feel than Ponyville. Locked within the leafy embrace of Whitetail Woods (from which the city takes its name), the city is far from being one of the larger tourist destinations for foreigners. However, with its polite population and beauty in spring and fall, it is a popular destination for visitors from other parts of the Equestrian States.

The small size of Whitetail leads many to assume that it is not very old, but are incorrect in thinking so. Whitetail has found itself largely free from the immense population growth that came with the Equestrian States' emergence from isolation over two decades ago. Without explosive growth, Whitetail's residents have developed a relatively close-knit community (even by Equestrian standards), and are considered to be among the nicest in the country. Foreigners are a rare sight in Whitetail, especially non-equines, so visitors are typically recognized immediately and welcomed by the locals.

Most tourists in Whitetail come to the city for no other reason than to relax. But for those visitors looking for something active to do, the city's heavily-forested parks and surroundings are rich in trails and paths for both avid hikers and casual walkers.

The Venue: Foragers Field (cap. 28,000)
Within easy walking distance of Whitetail Town Hall, Foragers Field is a relatively small and cozy stadium. On game days, the town has been known to shut down almost entirely, with residents either piling into Foragers Field or heading to the numerous sports bars and cafés that are spread throughout the city. Within the stadium, the seats are packed together to maximize the number of fans that can fit. Although it may be crowded, Foragers Field's regular Equestrian attendees are generally as polite and considerate as those that inhabit the city the ballpark is located in.

The Bulletin: Arnao is back for his second WBC as manager of the Lumai. There are two stories heading into the tournament. First is the gradual decline of the founding class of the Lumai, those players who were on the roster for WBC 23. Five were on the WBC 40 roster: CF Koilani Ruputuo (an original starter from WBC 23), RF Woilao Wanao, and three relief pitchers: Katwo (LOOGY), Unrowai Lonma’ao (mid relief), A’awnai Kupantai (the closer for the past few years).

Of these five, three have retired prior to WBC 41. Wanao, Lonma'ao, Kupantai are hanging up their cleats and saying goodbye to the game after nearly two decades of service.

Koilani Ruputuo, though reluctant to give up his beloved centerfield, has recognized that his range is declining. He will be moving to right, with Julian Lokumanai starting in center after being on the bench last year. Woilao Wanao's spot on the roster will not be given to another bench player, but rather to the bullpen, boosting their numbers to 7.

New to the bullpen will be Yisrael Guisalbes (set-up), Umuno Korakaparanai (set-up), and Kalo Worunapalakai (mid relief). Katwo will remain the LOOGY, Kumo Nolupanokawani will take over closing duties, and Moluko Purawakanakapai will move into the eigth inning slot. Arnao has eliminated the strict 7th inning slot, instead opting for two more broadly defined pitchers.

The second story is more controversial, and while the Association has attempted to keep it quiet, the media is taking notice. John Darren Jr. will be changing his number from 9 to 29. The 9 jersey was mostly famously worn by Mae'ao, the greatest player in Vaian baseball history. Darren Jr.'s assignment to the number caused quite the stir several years back, but he seemed to have accepted the pressure well. That's changed after recent off the field incidents, including some during last WBC. Darren has elected to change the number, supposedly voluntarily. He has said little beyond the following: "I want to respect the number and the man who wore it, and my conduct is not befitting of that number." If genuine, there may be a comeback story in the making, but naturally the tabloids want to get a hold of "the real story."

SUPER-LLAMALAND WBC41 ROSTER

The Tigers had been playing in the WBC for a while. But they weren’t truly back until Francis Thom’s fly ball settled into Tanya Ericsson’s glove for the final out of WBC40. Laurent Mårtensson has, with the team’s fourth championship, brought the Tigers to the precipice of history. They do not intend to back down.

UNIFORMS

Image

A little bit of a change for the Tigers, as they’ve switched from a domestic-based kit supplier to No Nonsense of Filindostan. The change in suppliers is accompanied by a change in design. The "home"s remain mostly unchanged, as NNS has provided a slightly brighter version of the popular blue-and-golds. The away uniforms have gone back to a common trend from the past - pinstripes - on a vibrant green background.

NICKNAME: The Tigers
MANAGER: Laurent Mårtensson
ACHIEVEMENTS: Four WBC championships (28, 30, 31, 40), six finals appearances (28-31, 37, 40), one IBS championship, co-hosts of WBC30
RANK: Second (4.61)

STADIA:
Diamond Park (35,000) in western Ruby Falls, home to ABC Ruby.
The Ultradome (39,600), located in the northern city of Emerald Springs, home to BC Northern Emerald.
Stonehaven (30,000), in the medium-sized city of Dinschria, is home to the Dinschria Storm.
Esperansa Field (37,500), in the southern city of Los-Juantos and home to the Peninsulara Resistance, is the only stadium of the four that did not host WBC30 matches.
Tyler Rocke Memorial (43,500) in downtown New Llama City, former host of the WBC30 finals and a number of Baseball Club Championships matches. Home to the New Llama Wizards.

PLAYSTYLE

The Tigers put speed and defense first: their entire starting lineup is at least above-average with the glove, and most are positional standouts. They're a little bit less aggressive on average than one would expect on the basepaths considering most of the players’ speed, but if pitcher or catcher can't hold runners on very well, they won't hesitate to rack up the stolen bases. The team doesn't rely on one single batter to knock in runs; the team is a bit less powerful than others of its caliber, but most players get their fair share of extra-base hits by hitting a disproportionate number of doubles and triples. Pitchers generally excel at pitch command and sequencing, and most manage to get above-average spin and movement on their balls.

The team is noted for their intense study of both analytics and video (which, after recent government investment, has become even more intense), thus making them a bit different from most national teams. This is seen both in lineup selection and in preparation for games.

INFIELDERS

Sofia RASMUSSEN, #5, 33, C-1B, R/R - New Llama Wizards
2032 season: .365/.440/.557, 18 HR, 75 RBI, 0 SB
Nicolas ROUSSEAU, #6, 30, 1B, L/L - Apple Valley Vipers
2032 season: .247/.360/.531, 41 HR, 99 RBI, 0 SB
James HAO, #11, 28, 3B-2B, S/R - Vargas City Lions
2032 season: .299/.340/.437, 8 HR, 56 RBI, 49 SB
Markus WRIGHT, #24, 28, UTIL, S/R - New Llama Cyclones
2032 season: .315/.380/.466, 18 HR, 77 RBI, 27 SB
Emery NOVAK, #18, 30, 3B-LF-RF, R/R - Kyrinson Twin Pines
2032 season: .280/.346/.477, 25 HR, 92 RBI, 17 SB

Catcher Sofia Rasmussen remains a Llamanean star and arguably the world’s best catcher: one of the team’s leaders, she’s a brilliant pitch-framer and an expert contact hitter (holding the national record for seasonal batting average at a videogame-esque .417) who has found considerable power recently. Nicolas Rousseau, despite his deceiving height of five-nine, is known for both his slugging bat and defensive acumen, and has cemented his spot in the starting lineup of the Tigers. Up the middle, the team will play the dynamic pairing of former college superstar Markus Wright and the speedy James Hao. Wright and Hector Rinaldi may be the best double-play pairing in the world, but Rinaldi’s injuries have forced James Hao into the position - not that that’s a bad thing. At third base, Emery Novak is known for his diving stops and strong arm, and should hold his own offensively for the Tigers as well in addition to being arguably their best defensive infielder. All five players are stars at their respective positions, all offering the speed, defense, and doubles power this team is so known for in droves. This infield will be an excellent core for years to come.

Carsten RIVIERA, #41, 26, C-1B, R/R - New Llama Cyclones
2032 season: .245/.340/.499, 31 HR, 85 RBI, 0 SB
Victoria RADOVIC, #10, 25, UTIL, L/R - City of Dinschria
2032 season: .290/.364/.440, 15 HR, 67 RBI, 32 SB
Dominik KÄSTNER, #12, 21, 2B-SS-CF, S/R - Derrierton Surge
2032 season: .322/.380/.496, 23 HR, 70 RBI, 25 SB
Cameron MORTENSEN, #31, 28, 1B-3B, S/R - Apple Valley Vipers
2032 season: .300/.345/.484, 25 HR, 80 RBI, 27 SB

A pretty solid bench selection. Carsten Riviera is a solid defensive catcher with a lot of power, having hit thirty or more home runs for four consecutive seasons. He’d be starting for almost any other team in the world - but Sofia Rasmussen is simply too good, and Riviera will have to be content with second for now. Eyrelian-Llamanean Victoria Radovic is a strong defender at virtually every infield position, and she has the speed and doubles power emblematic of this Tigers team as well. Dominik Kästner was made the first overall pick by Derrierton out of high school just two years ago, but he’s already a legitimate five-tool talent and borderline all-star in the LBL and more than deserving of his spot on the team. Last but not least, corner infielder Cameron Mortensen has been part of the Apple Valley Vipers’ core since his debut, and it’s not hard to see why - although he’s not a superstar, he’s a very versatile, well-rounded player with a lot of strengths.

OUTFIELDERS

Isak GUNNLAUGSON, #25, 29, OF, R/R - Öslerholm Storm
2032 season [Arondic Pro League] .379/.450/.640, 45 HR, 123 RBI, 8 SB
Gudjon FRANDSEN, #28, 26, OF, R/R - Apple Valley Vipers
2032 season: .302/.356/.437, 7 HR, 60 RBI, 52 SB
Lucien RUSSO, #32, 27, OF, S/R - Vargas City Lions
2032 season: .275/.340/.516, 33 HR, 89 RBI, 30 SB

Arguably the best the Tigers have had in years, the outfield is definitely one of this team’s strengths. Gudjon Frandsen has firmly established himself as the starting center-fielder - he’ll never hit for that much power, but stealing sixty bases two seasons ago - an LBL record - and earning a seventh consecutive All-League Defensive First Team award last season will make up for it. And his plate discipline has only improved. Meanwhile, Lucien Russo is a physical specimen with unheard-of defensive range, power, and speed. He’s fully put his knee issues behind him, and impressed everyone with the fourth 30-30 season of his career last year. Meanwhile, Isak Gunnlaugson has shown that he’s up to the hype. He’s questionably Llamanean (he still refuses to play in the LBL), but Gunnlaugson has been destroying Arondic baseball league for years now and should ensure that the Tigers won’t miss Tanya Ericsson as much as they might expect. All three of these players are now in their primes, and should be vital pieces towards another deep playoff run.

Megan SJÖBERG, #16, 29, OF, S/R - Rogers Whitecaps
2032 season: .302/.399/.445, 16 HR, 68 RBI, 33 SB
Khris BARTLETT, #18, 24, OF, L/L - BC Northern Emerald
2032 season: .242/.311/.466, 20 HR, 73 RBI, 35 SB

Sjöberg is a relatively new name to the Llamanean Baseball League, having spent the first three years of her career up north with the Öslerholm Storm. Her introduction to the LBL was a success though, as she showed the patience, speed, and defensive acumen that made her so coveted as an international free agent. Her versatility and consistency will be appreciated. Bartlett, on the other hand, is a converted pitcher who couldn’t make it in the LBL, and it shows - although he’s incredibly athletic and a brilliant defender, his batting skills are still a work in progress. He’s most likely to be used as a pinch-runner or a late defensive replacement, and he would excel in either role.

PITCHERS

note: the Tigers will experiment with starting rotations, likely playing all five for the first fifteen matches, but switch to a four-person rotation (likely demoting the fifth starter to long relief) after the halfway point of the group stage.

Justin ZHENG, #13, 35, R - Nandaozhou Sharks
2032 season: 18-7, 3.04 ERA, 210 IP, 209 K/48 BB

Zheng throws a low-nineties fastball with movement and complements it with a number of decent breaking pitches - curveball, changeup - as well as his legendary slicing 93-mph shuuto, dubbed longdexuanzhuan by fans of his hometown Nandaozhou Sharks, who he’s recently signed a two-year extension with. Combined with his ability to outthink hitters, he’s easily the best pitcher the nation has seen in a long time and the undisputed staff ace until his retirement - but is he starting to show cracks after a brilliant but human season?

Madeline WAGNER, #36, 31, R - Emerald City Greens
2032 season: 20-7, 2.68 ERA, 205 IP, 182 K/40 BB

Wagner took an unconventional path to the Llamanean Baseball League, playing in three different countries in two years after leaving college before being drafted first overall by the Derrierton Surge. It seems to have worked: her first season established her as one of the best in the league, and she’s only gone up since. Wagner’s repertoire is fairly straightforward: a mid-90s four-seam fastball, a decent curveball with high spin rates and velocity, a shuuto picked up playing abroad, and a changeup with lots of vertical movement. However, her ability to mix pitches and keep hitters off-balance, pitching to weak contact, is the main reason behind her success. Coming off her best season yet with Emerald City.

Natalie WU, #49, 25, L - New Llama Cyclones
2030 season: 15-9, 3.10 ERA, 180 IP, 199 K/45 BB

Made the number-one draft pick by Northern Emerald three years ago, Wu made an immediate impact on her team, becoming Emerald’s undisputed ace before being dealt for a massive package to the New Llama Cyclones, a decision that probably keeps Northern Emerald’s management up at night. With the Cyclones, she’s turned into a bona fide ace and constant Magnusson Award contender. Wu’s arsenal is one of the team’s best. The lefty can command five different pitches - a low-90s fastball with a lot of movement, a slider, cutter, changeup, and an excellent 12-to-6 curve. A fan favorite too after delivering a masterpiece against Newmanistan in game five of the WBC40 semifinals.

Matthias GILSON-ENGEN, #38, 28, R - Kyrinson Twin Pines
2032 season: 19-5, 2.42 ERA, 199 IP, 230 K/61 BB

Former national team closer Drew Gilson’s nephew has finally come into his own as a starter. GIlson-Engen has put his injury concerns behind for Kyrinson and grown into his full potential. Can’t quite throw as hard as his uncle, topping out in the mid-90s with his fastball, but couples his speed with an utterly dominant curve and solid changeup. Previously the most likely candidate to succeed Zheng as the staff ace, but he’s had problems performing in the clutch for both team and country.

August BENDTNER, #48, 21, L - Denison Patriots
2032 season: 17-7, 3.25 ERA, 185 IP, 227 K/85 BB

A late replacement for the injured Jacob Burr, but could turn out to be better than his team’s ace. An electrifying talent whose repertoire is centered around one of the best curveballs the nation has ever seen, complemented well by a mid-90s fastball. Admittedly has a bit of a temper, and has ever really been able to control his pitches well or find that elusive third pitch, but has world-beating potential. Rumored to be looking for a move abroad, and is also strongly supportive of Northern Llamanea independence.

A note: these are their recommended roles, but most of these are elite Llamanean relievers and can fill other roles pretty well. In the Llamanean baseball leagues, roles tend to be flexible. The closer usually isn't the best pitcher - that'd be the fireman. Think Dellin Betances or 2014 Wade Davis - not just limited to the ninth inning, but to the most high-leverage situations. Cameron has continued to modernize his bullpen management, and this could begin to be true for the closer as well. Specialty pitches are marked with an asterisk. The Middle Long reliever will usually be relied on in 5+ out situations (e.g. a 6-3 lead in the sixth inning or something).

Long: Aurelio GOMES, #66, 26, R - Nandaozhou Sharks - fastball, cutter*, changeup
LOOGY: Cameron BOURNE, #56, 27, L - South Falls Athletic - two-seam fastball*, slider, changeup
Middle Long: Marcus HONG, #58, 31, R - Xingcheng Renaissance - fastball, slider*
Middle: Erik BOHR, #61, 27, L - Kyrinson Twin Pines - fastball, changeup*, slider
Middle: James BRENNEMAN, #39, 27, R - New Llama Cyclones - fastball, sinker*, slurve
Middle: Brittany ZHEN, #45, 28, R - New Llama Wizards - fastball, slider, changeup*
Middle: Trevor GONSALVES, #83, 25, L - Vargas City Lions - fastball, sinker, curveball*, changeup
Closer: Anthony BEAUREGARD, #67, 21, R - BC Northern Emerald - fastball**, slider, changeup
Fireman: Jason VAN DIJK, #51, 29, L - Vargas City Lions - fastball**, cutter*, sinker, changeup

Laurent Mårtensson, the manager behind two of Llamanean baseball’s greatest dynasties, the mid-10s Apple Valley “Invincibles” and the early-twenties New Llama Wizards three-peat, is nothing short of an utter coup by the LFA. Lured out of an early retirement, the half-Arondic mastermind will be expected to build another dynasty with the Tigers. And if anybody can do it, it’s Mårtensson. He’ll be working with almost the exact same coaching staff that won WBC40 - although popular bench coach Maddie Polanco has left to manage Cassadaigua. On paper, this coaching staff has a lot of starpower on it, and they work very well together.

WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 33: 5-5
INTERNATIONAL BASEBALL SLAM IX: 12-7, IBS IX champion
WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 37: 13-17

as U.S.A.R.
ALL TIME RECORD: 41-27
WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 39: 24-14, Loss in quarterfinals
WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC 40: 17-13

After 3 average tournaments, the Southern Bears blossomed in the IBS IX. The Southern Democratic States finished with a 5-3 record for 15 points in group A, tied with Frenline Delpha. Both teams had to play a tie breaker game for seeding. SDS lost the game 6-5 and had the 7th seed. They played against the #2 seed, the Bat Slaves. SDS won the series 2-1 against Gregoryisgodistan. SDS played the semi finals against Abanhfleft Revolution. The Bears lost the first game 9-2 but finally won the series 2-1. The Southern Democratic States was in the final against the United States of Devonta Thundersticks. Devonta won the first game 4-1 and the Bears won the next one 9-4. Devonta won the 3rd game 5-4 and SDS won the next one 3-2. In the 5th and final game of the IBS IX final, the Bears won 4-1!

Then the Southern Bears was missing in action until the team comes back for the XI olympiad as part of the North Eurasian Unified Sporting Team but short of their female players, the Bears didn't qualified with an atrocious 0-4 record. Then, the Southerners finished 4th in group A with a 13-17 record in the World Baseball Classic 37. In the World Baseball Classic 28, the Southern Democratic States had a crazy finish in Bulter Group where 3 teams were tied with 45 points but only two teams advanced to the playoffs. South Yerfilag were the unlucky ones. The Bears faced an unranked team in the round of 16, but this unranked team was Newmanistan who were coming back after being absent for many seasons. Newmanistan beat the SDS in 3 games.

In 2018, every North Eurasian nations (but Pays den haut) united together to form a socialist superstate. The new federation has been named the Union of Socialist Alpine Republics, this federation, composed with 30 socialist republics, inherits SDS's rank. To read more about the "creation" of the U.S.A.R., read this story. In it's first participation in the WBC as the U.S.A.R., the team finished in 1st place in Darmen group with 20 wins and 10 losses. The Bisons played against the infamous Musterfield in the 1st round and our pitchers struck out a lot of batters. The Alpine Union won the series 3-1. In the quarter finals, the Reprezentacja Alpejski lost 3-1 against Ethane. Then, in the WBC 40, the U.S.A.R. finished 2nd in group 5, tied with Zwangzug with a 17-13 record, but the Zebras won the tie break and the Bisons didn't qualify for the playoffs.

Tennish National Baseball Team

Nickname: Metros (or simply "Mets")

Baseball was almost reduced to cult status in Tenburg until their appearance in WBC 40. The riotous atmosphere, coupled with Tenburg’s surprise run to the quarterfinals, made baseball incredibly popular, and as they head into their second Classic, it’s expected that both the rise in popularity, as well as their high level of play, will continue.

The New Sangti Indios
Official Roster for the World Baseball Classic 41

Information
Nation Name: New Sangti
Trigramme: TRB (taken from predecessor nation, The Royal Barangay)
Stadium: Estadio Beisbol de Sangti (cap. 45,000)
Location: Ciudad Nuevo Sangti

A Nation Underground
Unlike the predecessor nations of Sangti and The Royal Barangay, the nation of New Sangti is hidden from the depths of Esportiva. It is only accessible from an underground tunnel in nearby Isla Nespa, an island southeast of the former mainland. This island can be accessed by small airplanes; however they must time their flight right as only red eye flights (those past 12 midnight up to 4 am) can arrive on the island. This is due to the island being off-limits and in a no-fly zone in daylight. This is due to fears that radioactive levels in the mainland are very high.

Upon arriving in the tunnel, an alternative ecosystem can be found underground, with supply of water and electricity abundant from underground heat generating energy that can be converted to electricity.

Arriving teams in New Sangti can request for van for hire that will take them to Nuevo Sangti, the new capital of the nation. It will take around 5 to 6 hours from the portal in Isla Nespa to Nuevo Sangti, depending on traffic.

The first alternate uniform will be used for all night games during the group stage. The second alternate uniform will be used for day games away from home during the playoffs, with the exception of the final, though we doubt we'll get that far.

All Darmeni home games will be played at Royal Ballpark, capacity 40,000, located in Scott City. The stadium is home to Royal BC.

Darmeni Baseball Style
Offensively, the top of the order has one job and one job only: get on base and stay on base. Contact hitting is the name of the game for those three, as they look to give the cleanup hitter plenty of opportunities for RBI's. For the cleanup hitter, hitting the ball as far as possible will be the most likely course of action, though having men on base while trailing will cause a more conservative approach to be taken. For the remaining batters, the hit and run, as well as conventional base stealing will be utilized. At any point where there are two outs in an inning, hitting for the fences will be likely. In other words, "Go BIG or go home."

Defensively, things will be fairly conventional, with defensive shifts occurring perhaps once every ten games and an extra man being brought into the infield perhaps once per tournament.

And finally, pitching. Strike zone, strike zone, strike zone. Throwing outside of the strike zone is highly frowned upon in Darmeni baseball, so pitch counts will likely always be in favor of the pitcher. That being said, expect a great deal of variance in pitch types, with most pitchers having four or five different pitch types in their repertoire. Some even have as many as seven. Also, Darmeni baseball fans love a good Eephus. Also, no intentional walks, ever. We ain't scared of no one.

Also, you may be wondering why many of the younger players are all switch hitters. In Darmen, all players are taught to bat with both hands, and many continue to do so until their mid to late twenties, when they finally make a decision on how they will bat.

Cosumar National Baseball Team
WBC 41 - Equestrian States

Roster and Information

Basic Team Information

Nation - The Fiefdom of Cosumar
Demonym - Cosumarite
Region - Atlantian Oceania
Official Colors - Royal Blue, White, Navy, Silver
Domestic League - Professional Baseball League of Cosumar ("PBL")

History - Last time, with the WBC celebrating 40 editions, Cosumar also celebrated its 25th entry in the tournament. Therefore, this will be our 26th WBC. Though the Dragons are experienced at this competition, they have never been particularly successful aside from one 2nd place finish. Our WBC 36 ranking of 6th was our highest ever, but has decreased sharply (to 23rd) following some lackluster showings.
Style Modifier - -2.5

Stadia

Primary Stadium - Orangi Field (Indoor, Capacity 55.000)

Sponsored by Cosumar's most popular carbonated beverage "Orangi Flavored Sodas", Orangi Field is an enormous indoor baseball complex in southwest port city Crawford. In pleasant weather, the dome's roof will open, welcoming that beloved sunny-day baseball game feel. However, in the event of heat or precipitation, the roof can be closed as seen below. Orangi Field was constructed prior to Cosumar's WBC 18 campaign. It has been selected to once again serve as the Dragons' primary home field for the 41st World Baseball Classic. It is next-door to the similarly-named Orangi Stadium, a soccer stadium that houses Crawford City FC.
Image

Secondary Stadium - Royal Park (Outdoor, Capacity 41.000)

Royal Park is a beautiful old-fashioned field that serves as the home field for our most famous domestic team, the Ramusok Royals. Although not as high-tech as Orangi Field, Royal Park is legendary because of its rich history. It is known as Royal Park not just because of the name of its tennant, but also because it is just right down the road from the Royal Palace in the historic Omrade av Storslagenhet (OAS) district. King James II himself is often sighted here for games. From the natural green grass to the cheap food, 60-year-old Royal Park offers the classic ballgame experience. Decades of tradition and amazing moments of Cosumarite baseball. It will serve as an alternate to Orangi Field in case of emergency, and our FIRST home game is always played here out of tradition.

We prefer to use a Designated Hitter. If DHs are not in use, remove him from the batting order. Slide everyone else up one spot and place the pitcher last.

Uniform

Image

The uniform of Cosumar Baseball, as is tradition, consists of a navy shirt with silver sleeves and pants. The hat is also navy, with a silver C in the center. The socks are silver with a blue stripe. The number will go in the top right corner of the front of the shirt and in the center on the back. The player's last name will be placed on the back, arched over the number.

Coaching Staff

Manager - Louis Copenhaver

This will be Copenhaver's third WBC in charge after replacing 71-year-old manager Toby MacHart, who had led the team since WBC 32. Copenhaver, 53, brings a fresh new approach but still offers a bevy of experience. Prior to this promotion, he served as Third Base Coach under MacHart for 15 years. He also took an unorthodox route to a coaching career compared to his predecessors and colleagues. He was never a baseball player or really much of an athlete at all. He was just a clumsy kid who loved to watch his hometown team: the Ramusok Royals. His enthusiasm for the Royals earned him the spot of "Bat Boy" at age 13. He stuck with the job for 5 or 6 years and was taken under the wing of legendary manager Don Clintson. When their opening for Baserunning Coach eventually came up, Copenhaver was persistent and gave the Royals no choice but to hire him. He continued to move up in the organization. After ten years as the Royals' third base coach (the position he also held for the NT), he filled their managerial vacancy that opened up six years ago. Now he will lead the National Team as well. Who better to carry the legacy of Clintson and MacHart than their earnest protégée Copenhaver? Despite never playing the game, Copenhaver has earned the respect of players and coaches with his brilliant baseball mind and friendly demeanor. He exudes passion for baseball.

First Base Coach - Rodney Bellums

Bellums was a collegiate star and a former #1 draft pick. After a few seasons in the PBL it was clear he was a huge bust, not cut out for the big leagues. After being downgraded to the minor leagues and disappointing even at that level, Bellums bitterly decided he was done with baseball. He tried an assortment of projects including starting businesses but none were successful. After many years he decided to go back to the game he loved - but this time as a coach. He started out with small positions for small teams but eventually worked his way up to a PBL managerial position and then became to First Base Coach of the National Team. 69 years old.

Third Base Coach - Joanie Sansom

Filling Louis Copenhaver's role following his promotion to the head job is Joanie Sansom, the first female NT coach in the history of Cosumar Baseball. Sansom, 54, is a veteran of the PBL as both a player and coach. She has managed three PBL clubs in her career, winning one title, but is currently serving as the President and GM of her hometown team, the Crawford Cocodragons. She has taken this side appointment with the National Team as a way to reconnect with her coaching roots and get back on the field. She is known for her warm, people-person demeanor and slow, colorful speech. But also for a sharp intellect hiding behind this charming facade.

NEWMANISTAN ROCKETS

“One Goal, Only Goal, Win Number Five!”

Let’s start with the technicalities:
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No, my lineup is listed here. Use that!
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes. I will normally include upcoming pitchers in my prior RP.
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but only say they are hurt. I will determine the severity.
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Eject my players: Yes, on a basis of no more then one more then you eject from your own team.
Godmod other events: No
Use DH at home: Another “Hell no!” here

Additional Information that is very important to me: Newmanistan does not prescribe to the modern day concept of pitch counts determining how long a starting pitcher is kept in for. In fact, pitch counts are not even kept track of outside of curiosity sake. Such count is not displayed on the scoreboard, so if you want to track it for your pitcher, you must do it manually.

– If Newmanistan has given up 2 runs or less and WON, then the starting pitcher has gone all nine innings. No ifs, ands, or buts. This is true even if it would have been a save situation.

– Another Newmanistan trait is aggressive base stealing. Think back to the days of Vince Coleman and Ricky Henderson in their primes.

Home Game Schedule Info:
(any home game for us falling in the mentioned matchday range is held at the stadium that accompanies it)
MD 1-5: Emperor Michael IV Stadium, Pocono City
MD 6-10: Tundra Falls Proving Grounds, Tundra Falls
MD 11-15: Olympia Stadium, Olympia
MD 16-20: The Jungle, Loudon
MD 21-25: Empress Jessica I Stadium, Jessicaville
MD 26-30: Keisler Stadium, Southport

Head Coach: Ashley Stevens 59, Loudon Leopards
– Daughter of former Newmanistanian superstar pitcher Jessica Brasfield. Ashley went on to have a fantastic career in her own right, and will do her best to make sure that the Rockets live up to their legendary pitching performances of the past. The Leopards are the dominant pitching team at home. She is honored to be only the second coach ever in Newmanistan baseball history, and given the team’s quick ascent to the #3 ranking, she’s doing a very good job!

Hitting Coach: Chelsea Benjamin, 56, Pocono City Capitals
– Hit for decent power in her playing career, but she had an uncanny knack for being able to make contact. She is studious in observing a player’s mechanics, and can usually pick up on problems quickly to make sure hitting slumps are temporary.

Pitching Coach: Tracianne Conti, 55, Loudon Leopards
– Works with Murphy in Loudon to make sure that everything is perfect with the pitching. Conti is astute on being able to decipher when a pitcher is getting tired, and does not only use a pitch count number to do that. Intelligent on bullpen usage as well.

STARTING ROTATION:

1A) Courtney Duvall, 31, LHP, Loudon Leopards (#22)
– Duvall is a dominant pitcher at home that puts up some amazing numbers. In just four seasons, she has already won the Keisler (Cy Young) Award four times. She is tall, and while she can and will beat you with a fastball, it is her curveball and slider that make her so dominant. A splitter is also part of repertoire. Tossed a perfect game against Musterfield during WBC 39 qualifying. Margaret loves her, as evidenced by us (almost) always getting a favorable scoreline that is conducive for a good start. (May not always be a win, but its starting pitcher friendly a lot). Had a dominant WBC 40 campaign.

1B) Jennifer Hughes, 27, RHP, Jessicaville Millionaires (#42)
– In the last two years, Hughes has developed into a top starting pitcher in the Empire, and was second to Duvall in Keisler Award voting lat year. Hughes has been a part of the World Baseball Classic roster the last two classics, but as a long reliever. With her career absolutely taking off right now, she’s being given much more responsibility.

1C) Breanne Burks, 32, RHP, Tundra Falls Mariners (#43)
– Burks has a little bit better fastball then does Duvall. She will come at you aggressively with it quite often. However, just when hitters think that they might get that figured it out, she changes speeds like a true master with a changeup that makes many batters look silly. Her curveball is also something that must be respected. Dropped from 1B, where she was the last two last Classics, to 1C, but that’s more of a testament to Hughes.

1D) Jessica Gray, 25, LHP, Putnam Lake Eagles (#28)
– Jessica makes her first appearance on the World Baseball Classic roster. This is a tremendous vote of confidence from coach Stevens to do this, but she has been very impressed with Gray’s composure and compete level. The southpaw loves to throw her curveball and slider, which is similar to how Courtney Duvall wants to get you out, as well. Jessica does not have quite as a good a fastball as Duvall, but relies on the wicked 12-6 break of her breaking pitches.

1E) Kaitlyn Carroll, 29, RHP, Southport Tigers (#36)
– The youngster surprised many in her rookie season by being able to make an immediate impact, and her career has simply taken off. Being the ace in Southport is the real deal, as this is where the Keisler’s played. Carroll gets it done with a sinker, slider, and splitter. Her fastball is average, but her dominance with the breaking pitches makes it better then it really would be otherwise.

Bullpen:

Closer) Shannon Spencer, 36, RHP, South Charlotte Condors (#44)
– Like most closers, Spencer will bring the heat. However, a wicked cutter and a splitter mixed in means hitters can’t always think fastball. As she has gotten a little older, she has only become a smarter pitcher. Since the last Classic, her usage of the cutter as an out pitch her increased, and it has kept her on top of her game.

Set-up) Meghan Girardi, 32, LHP, Loudon Leopards (#43)
– The closer in Loudon, Girardi is similar to Spencer and will be used in a set-up role for the most part, but could close a game or two or three herself. Could also be used in any standard short relief situation.

Michelle Tremont, 24, LHP, Centralia Cougars (#51) (WBC Rookie)
– Tremont is one of two newcomers to the staff this World Baseball Classic. Her consistent play over the last few years has made coach Stevens decide to give her an opportunity on the big team. Her out pitch is a fastball, and it is that way because she sets up beautifully with a splitter, and a tricky cutter. Figures to be used in mid-inning situations when a lefty is needed.

Andrea Courville, 22, RHP, Jessicaville Millionaires (#49) (WBC Rookie)
– Andrea is not flashy, and sometimes people will wonder how she does it. Her secret is pinpoint location, and the ability to be a step ahead of the batter in keeping them guessing. Her curveball and slider are nasty, plus she even mixes in the screwball from time to time. Her fastball isn’t really super fast, but it just seems that way after facing the breaking stuff. This is her first time on the team, and will likely be used in mid-inning situations.

Hannah Lee, 21, LHP, South Charlotte Condors (#25)
– An up and coming starting pitcher in Newmanistan, who was recently selected #1 overall by South Charlotte. She was so dominant, especially with her fastball and splitter, that most feel great success for her is inevitable. Last time, at 19, she was added to the roster to get the WBC experience, and was not used a ton. Now, the “training wheels” are off, and she will unleashed a little more confidence.

Kelsey Winkler, 29, LHP, Springfield Thoroughbreds (#40)
– A reliable reliever for mid-inning situations. Normally will be used for 2-3 innings at a time. Could go as much as five.

Alyssa Mackey, 31, RHP, Tundra Falls Mariners (#48)
– A versatile pitcher that could go as many as five innings, but is generally only going to be looked on in short relief.

Now, let’s meet the offense, shall we? Everyone returns. Why wouldn’t they?

STARTING LINEUP (Throws/Bats)
1) Hannah Bates- CF (R/S), 30, Putnam Lake Eagles (#8)
– Get your catcher ready, but even then it might not be enough. Bates is a pure contract hitter, and because of her amazing speed, she can turn singles into doubles, and leg out many infield singles. She has a good eye, and that walk you may surrender may soon end up a three base walk. Epitomizes the Newmanistanian legend of aggressive base stealing, and has no worries about stealing third as well. Doesn’t hit homers over the fence, usually, but can get the inside the park variety every now and then.

2) Lexi Alcorn- LF (R/S), 31, Springfield Thoroughbreds (#15)
– So what’s even more of a pain in the neck then having to deal with someone like Bates in the leadoff spot? Having a clone of hers batting second, like Alcorn.

3) Brittany Morgan- 3B (R/S), 35, Olympia Gladiators (#30)
– Morgan is very capable of popping 40 or so HR’s over the fence in a 162-game season at home, but she also maintains a career batting average of .338. Expect her to be driving home those top two often. This may be her last Classic.

4) Mallory Harris- 1B (L/S), 30, Southport Tigers (#27)
– The most dominant offensive player in Newmanistan today. Mallory can get it done in all aspects, hitting for power and average while also providing gold glove caliber defense. Oh, and she’s not afraid to steal a base or two, either. She also knows she’s good, and enjoys showboating. The type of player you love if they are on your team, and hate otherwise.

5) Kayla Carey- SS (R/R), 29, North Charlotte Wildcats (#5)
– Provides amazing defense in the middle of the infield, but also has a career batting average of .352, ranking tops in Newmanistan among active players. Sneaky power, and average 20-25 HR’s in a 162 game season. Speedy on the bases.

6) Stephanie Reynolds- RF (R/S), 23, Pocono City Capitals (#14)
– Reynolds has impressed everyone at home with her power. As a rookie with Pocono City, she pounded out 49 long balls, while maintaining a BA of .318. She also has a great eye, and drew over 100 walks last season.

7) Michelle Covington- 2B (R/S), 29, Jessicaville Millionaires (#4)
– Known for a high level of swagger and flair, she loves to talk up with the best of them. She can hit too, and is more of an extra base hit threat then a power threat. Has bulked up a lot since the last classic. May show more power then expected/

8) Hannah Kent- C (R/S), 33, Dover City Mountaineers (#38)
–Hannah's batting average floats around .300, and enough power to respect (15-20 HR's per season). Great defensively.

9) Pitcher

DH When Necessary: Rachel Landry (3B)- A power threat, who misses out in the numbers game at the position to have a chance to start.
Note: When the DH is used, Landry HITS SIXTH. Insert her over Reynolds, and then just move the others down one.

Bench:
Rachel Landry- 3B (when DH not used) (#18)

THE GRAND DUCHY OF SCHILTZBERG
Image
"Deum Super Omnia"

History:
The Grand Duchy of Schiltzberg is an enormous nation that stretches to engulf much of the European continent, and has grown from humble beginnings into being the economic, social, and cultural powerhouse that it is today. In the year 1718, the grand patriot and war hero, whose name was Nicolas Schiltz, was granted a large portion of land for his gallantry in action and his extreme patriotism and courage in the First Javanese War of Succession (1704-1707) by the Luxembourgish Grand Duke. This land became a province of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and was called Schiltzberg. Schiltzberg began to grow in industry and culture, and with the growing ideas of the Enlightenment, Schiltzbergers believed that they deserved to be a sovereign state, which would be independent from Luxembourg. Inspired by the American Revolution, Duke Jean I of Schiltzberg declared Schiltzberg's independence from Luxembourg on March 31, 1781. Luxembourg was in no state of readiness for war, and was forced to recognize Schiltzberg's independence, and Luxembourg's Grand Duke Joseph I signed the treaty to recognize the new Grand Duchy on February 12, 1782. The nation grew industrially very quickly, having an industrial revolution, and it quadrupled in size, gaining territories from its militarily inferior rival of the Holy Roman Empire, which Schiltzberg seemed to be continuously and indefinitely at war with.

In the nineteenth century, Emperor Napoleon of France, which had been an ally of Schiltzberg's before the French Revolution, threatened to declare war on Schiltzberg if it did not submit itself to his rule. Schiltzberg refused, and this led to a French invasion of Schiltzbergian territory. Schiltzberg lashed out against Napoleon's army with an army that was much stronger than the Emperor had anticipated, and Schiltzberg defeated Napoleon, winning crucial battles at Paris and Versailles. Schiltzberg occupied France for seven months and intended on claiming the entire territory of that nation for its own, but hostile Germany its allies were afraid of Schiltzberg becoming too powerful, and threatened to declare war if Schiltzberg claimed land south of the 47th parallel. Schiltzberg claimed all of France north of that latitude line, though it also ceded a large portion of the land to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, which had been an ally in the war, and the remaining territory became an independent government known as the Republic of France, which became a close ally of Schiltzberg in many crucial wars.

Late in that century, the German kingdoms began to centralize, making Germany a critical threat to Schiltzberg and all of Europe. In 1914, following the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, who was a leader in Germany's ally of Austria-Hungary, the German military broke a twenty year standoff with Schiltzberg and its allies by invading Belgium. The German military was so strong that it overtook the Belgian capital of Brussels after only 72 hours, slaughtering the royal family of Belgium and leaving Belgium and its allies, including Schiltzberg, stunned. Schiltzberg, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom of Great Britain, and the Republic of France all declared war on Germany within several days of this happening. The Allies acted fast to prevent the Germans from attacking further nations, and Luxembourg and Great Britain attacked German troops in Belgium, while Schiltzberg and France invaded German territory. The Germans fought back hard, and they were able to push through Belgium into Schiltzbergian territory, forcing Schiltzberg to retreat and defend its own border with Belgium. The Allies signed an agreement with the Russian Empire and the United States of America, and the reinforcements from these nations allowed the Allies to begin to push back the Central Powers, which were led by Germany. The Russians invaded Germany from the east, and the rest of the Allies closed in on Germany from the west, and finally were able to break back into German territory in March of 1916. The German capital was overtaken, and the government was overthrown, as Schiltzberg and its allies won the war in May of 1916. Schiltzberg claimed much of the western German territory, expanding its own empire significantly. Belgium was administered by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in an effort to restore its government, but the natives started a movement to be absorbed into Luxembourg, and a referendum was passed to absorb Belgium into Luxembourg in November of 1919. France, Great Britain were given the imperialist territories of Germany, and Russia was given the part of Germany that has been called Prussia. The Allies created a new, democratic government in Germany, much at the pushing of the United States and France, but much to the dismay of Schiltzberg, which wanted to create a new monarchy, preferably from their own royal family to create an alliance with the Germans. Peace was temporarily gained.

The Germans began to stir again, as they recovered from the horrible war. There was a strong economic depression, and this angered the Germans, who blamed the depression on Schiltzberg. In September of 1939, Germany invaded Schiltzberg and once again started a world war. Italy and Japan joined Germany in its conquest of world domination, as Italy aided Germany in its European and African conquests, and Japan led its own Pacific and Asian conquests. The Allies reassembled, as the Schiltzbergers and every other European nation except for Germany and Italy declared war on the Axis Powers, and the United States declared war on Japan after being attacked in December of 1941. The Germans showed early dominance in the war, gaining a lot of territory very quickly, and Schiltzberg was forced to temporarily move its government to Versailles, which was much farther west from the front line than New Schiltzbierg was. It was a good thing too, because New Schiltzbierg was overtaken, and the Germans claimed "East Schiltzberg" for their own. Schiltzberg was not defeated yet though, as they fought back with their allies and regained the land. Meanwhile, the Americans were fighting bitterly against the Japanese in the Pacific, recapturing island nations that had previously been taken by the Japanese. The Americans got involved in the African conquest after receiving a message from the Republic of Mexico that the Germans had offered Mexico an alliance if it would invade the United States. The Germans were winning the war in Europe, but then made the mistake of provoking Soviet Union, which had previously been known as Russia, and this almost immediately resulted in their beginning to lose ground. They had opened up another front of the war and were unable to maintain their efforts. Captured land was retaken by the allies, who closed in on rivaling Germany, and the Germans surrendered in January of 1944. The Allies were furious that they had allowed the Germans to continue to have a government after the first World War, and this time, they allowed Schiltzberg to annex what remained of German territory, as well as Switzerland and Austria, which had supported the German effort, wiping Germany off the map. The Soviet Union was allowed to annex the German satellite state of Poland, and France was allowed to annex North Italy, while the United Kingdom was given South Italy as an imperial territory. Great Britain later sold this territory to France for money in an alliance treaty. The United States was allowed to keep all of the island nations as its territories, and was also given a great amount of land in Africa that had previously belonged to Germany, but this land was lost to the independence movement over the next decade. The people of Luxembourg voted to be annexed by Schiltzberg in 1948 in a referendum, so this gave Schiltzberg control of most of central Europe.

In the 1950s, Schiltzberg adopted moderate socialism, and was seen as the moderate of European politics, with the Soviet Union as the extreme communist and Great Britain and France as extreme capitalists. It was good to have neutral Schiltzberg separating these powers, and this is what prevented another World War from happening.

In the dawn of the third millennium, many began to question the legitimacy of a monarchy, including Schiltzberg's own leader, Grand Duke Lucas I. On March 31, 2014, Lucas stepped down as Grand Duke and approved a democratic constitution into law that would allow for the election of the head of state, who was the President. This was Schiltzberg's form of government for forty years of relative peace and mediocrity, until a man named James Williams was elected President in 2046. Williams was an extremist who fought to create nationalism in the country and strengthen government in Schiltzberg, in the case of war. He invaded France, which had been Schiltzberg's ally, and won the war because of Schiltzberg's outrageous military spending. In the treaty that ended the war, Schiltzberg annexed all of the Italian Peninsula, greatly increasing its land area. Schiltzberg asserted its dominance, and became an imperial power when its navy invaded several islands off of the coast of Asia. Nationalism was at its peak in Schiltzberg, and Williams was elected to a second term in 1950. He continued his controversial policies in his second term, but received a blind eye from foreign powers, because they feared his military strength. In 1954, Williams was to be removed from office, due to a clause in the constitution that limited a President to two terms. Williams asked for an amendment to be passed that would allow him to serve a third term, but the legislature unanimously voted down this amendment. Williams was outraged, and declared that he would refuse to step down as President. The following day, the congress voted to impeach him, and the Justice Council called for an impeachment trial. WIlliams then had the military assassinate all members of congress and the Justice Council, and declared himself the Emperor of Schiltzberg. Emperor James, as he called himself, declared war on France once again, and invaded. France and all of its allies, including Great Britain and the United States declared war on the rebel government and wished to restore peace in Schiltzberg. The Soviet Union also declared war on Schiltzberg out of fear of invasion. After six months, the government was overthrown, and the Schiltz Dynasty was restored, with Lucas III, grandson of Lucas I, as the new Grand Duke. Now there have been two decades of peace since the ancient government was restored, and most Schiltzbergers live happily in peace.

HOME AWAY

The Grand Duchy of Schiltzberg offers the tournament use of Royal Dome, home of the New Schiltzbierg Grand Dukes of the NBLS, which is owned and paid for by the taxpaying citizens of New Schiltzbierg. The elegant stadium is the only stadium in the NBLS to have a fixed roof, but the elegant stadium is dubbed as "unique" rather than "outdated" for this feature. The stadium was built as Schiltzberg Stadium in 1978, and was host to several teams until it was bought by the NBLS when it was founded in 2000. The name was changed to Royal Dome in 2000. The New Schiltzbierg Grand Dukes have played at Royal Dome since 2000, and the New Schiltzbierg Prime Ministers (now the Presidents) also played there from 2000 to 2012.

Frenline Delpha Anacondas

It's a new year for the Anacondas, a team with storied tradition. However, last year was a trainwreck by Frenlinian standards, as they went out in the first round of the playoffs. After several key players retiring after many years of service, the Frenline Delpha Anacondas decided that it was time to search for new talent. With the go-ahead from President Samuel Snake, Manager Tristen Smalls and Head Coach James Bones decided to hold three separate training camps in various regions of the country before the greatest players were asked to assemble in the Stacey Turnhill Baseball Training Complex for an intense five days of practice and examinations. After those five days were over, the final lists for the official roster of the WBC41 Frenline Delpha Anacondas was published. Those that made the team are now working, practicing for the long, grueling tournament that will demand everything from them and could end up giving them back nothing. Will this new group of players band together and carry on the grand tradition of Frenline Delpha baseball, or will this new team find it hard to pick up steam against all the competition? Only time will tell, but this group of players are the best in the country, so we hope the former is in the stars.

SECOND THIRD FOURTH TIME'S THE CHARM?: HICAÑA WBC41 ROSTER

Every nation takes their own path to the WBC. But perhaps none of these paths have been harder than that of the Society of Hicañans Abroad. Since the Hicañan Civil War broke out, the nation has struggled to return to stability and resolve the underlying tensions that led to the number of conflicts Hicaña has recently been pushed through. With foreign assistance, the Fourth Republic managed to purge itself of President Sandoval's autocratic, far-right regime. Unfortunately, efforts to set up a new government led by Solomon Ervine failed, and Hicaña finally collapsed into non-existence. Now, a number of expatriates are beginning to re-introduce the idea of Hicaña with the Society of Hicañans Abroad, which is beginning to resettle the nation. And the nation's fledgling sports teams could play a vital role in engaging Hicaña.

Just looking at results, WBC39 and WBC40 did an excellent job of doing so, as the Phoenixes somehow scrapped their way into the Round of 16 at the former before falling to Schiltzberg. But the Phoenixes are more dysfunctional than you'd expect, as the baseball team has become the site of a brutal power struggle between superstar manager Alex Cameron, who now finds himself with the backing of the Hicañan government, and certain factions of the Hicañan Baseball Association, including a number of former players who have refused to play for Cameron. This team has the talent to go far...but they probably won't.

ABANHFLEFT REVOLUTION
Abanhfleft men's national baseball team

No one even cares about baseball in Abanhfleft anymore. (No, not really. It's just everyone's gotten used to the Revolution underperforming so everyone's just set their bars very, very low.)

Name of nation: Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft
Demonym: Fleftic
Team name: Abanhfleft Revolution
Nickname: Revolutionaries (common), Revolters (derogatory)
Official history: This will be Abanhfleft's eighth time participating in the World Baseball Classic. It's also probably the eighth time that they'll disappoint.
Team colors: Blue, orange, and green
Style modifier: +3. Abanhfleft is experimenting with new styles to try and finally get a win in the WBC.

THE DERRING-DO GRITTY HUSTLERS

The Gritty Hustlers play the game the right way, have strong intangibles, show a lot of spirit out there, respect the game, always give 110% and strictly obey all the unwritten rules that make baseball what it is.

The national sport of Derring-Do is Test Baseball, in which 90-inning games are played by two teams of 40 players over the course of a week. There may be some struggles to adapt to what is seen by many Derring-Do fans as a lesser version of the game.

All home games are played at Erstad-Pedroia Stadium in Derring-Do's capital city of Pluck. The stadium seats 16,982.

THE STARTING LINEUP

CF #9 D'Apostrophe VIZIER
1B #4 Hostia MCGRUFF

LF #3 Pericles CURMUDGEON
RF #20 Booger FITZSIMMONS
C #50 Junior PLECTRUM
SS #39 Gordon MANBUN
2B #6 Winifred AL-ARABY
Pitcher

The DH is #7 Bossanova CORNUCOPIA, in nations that don't respect the game as much as we do.

The DH bats ninth in protest, as mandated by legislation, and is expected to show a proper amount of shame about it. Anyone serving as a designated hitter is not allowed to sit within ten feet of anyone in the lineup, and is not allowed to take any gum or sunflower seeds from the tubs in the dugout. Other starters generally do not speak with him or make eye contact during the game.

THE BENCH

C #98 Samwise GORILLA
IF #14 Demetrius GONGFERMOR
OF #16 Autocracy SPITSBERGEN
1B/3B/LF/RF #7 Bossanova CORNUCOPIA (when not DHing)

Nova Anglicana WBC 41 Roster

Image

Nickname: Lions
Acronym: NOV
Style Mod (if applicable): +1

Archbishop Stadium in the Capital of Londinium (35,000)
Image

Archbishop Stadium is the home stadium of the Londinium Capitols as well as the Nova Anglican national team. It is big and it plays big, with a serious nighttime marine layer, an enormous right-center gap known as "Triples Alley" and an imposing right field wall. It's not as hard on right-handed hitters, but is a fly ball pitcher's paradise. Many people are seen in the bay outside of the stadium attempting to catch home runs hit into the water or simply cruising the bay while enjoying the sound of the game on the radio.

Hosting: Home games against Darmen

Yeoman Stadium in Eboracum (34,000)
Image

Yeoman Stadium is the home of the Eboracum Yeomen, located in Nova Anglicana's second-largest city. It is another pitcher's park, and especially difficult to get it out to right-center, but because of air resistance rather than distance to the fence. It recently hosted the 2nd BCC Finals, and the atmosphere at the ballpark and the culture of Eboracum make this a great destination.

Hosting: Home games against Cosumar

Royal Bank Park (31,000) in Durovernum Cantiacorum
Image

Royal Bank Park is home to one of the more successful clubs in recent NABL history, the DC Brewers. The park features a high right field wall with seats atop it, and lies beside the St. John River.

Hosting: Home games against Lycrabon

Queen Charlotte Park (25,000) in Isca Dumnoniorum
Image

Queen Charlotte Park is the other newest park in the NABL, the home of the Isca Town Greens. It has recently undergone a green retrofit, and boasts solar panels and carbon neutrality. It plays neutral, favoring neither hitters nor pitchers.

Hosting: Home games against Royal Kingdom of Quebec

Robert Webster Stadium (30,000) in Londinium
Image

"The Web" is the home of former expansion club Londinium Novas. The Novas haven't seen much success in the league yet, but their stadium is quite new. It is a bit of a wind tunnel, so bundle up for night games and look for low-scoring affairs without many home runs.

Hosting: Home games against Gratissima

Starting Rotation (order as given)
RHP #11 Carson Whitten, 32 - Whitten was #1 pick years ago, elite curveball and 95 MPH fastball, current NT ace
RHP #44 Damon Singleton, 28 - fastball at 92-96, peaks at 98; very good slider out-pitch; change-up is okay, good control
LHP #20 Darren Lawson, 27 - primary pitch is a cutter at 92-93, also has a big curve, a sweet changeup, and a decent slider; good control and strikeout numbers
RHP #36 Ben Clayton, 25 - combines 96 MPH fastball with 81 MPH hammer curveball, developed a decent change and slider, strikes out a ton and walks a ton
LHP #19 Nate McLaughlin, 25 - out of nowhere prospect has rocketed to ROY and back-to-back sub-3.00 ERA seasons, fastball 90-92, with sharp curve and sweeping slider, tricky changeup as well

Bullpen
LHP #57 John O'Brien, 32, - three legitimate off-speed pitches, big slow curve is best, will be long reliever or spot starter
LHP #48 Will Thornton, 31, - sharp control plus a 96+ MPH fastball, decent change, fringy curveball
LHP #46 Grant Holmes, 32 - lefty specialist with a good slider, tall at 6'7
RHP #38 Sean Fletcher, 29 - 7th inning guy, hard fastball with run, secondary pitch is a knuckle curve
RHP #16 Chris Yates, 29 - fastball sits 95 and can touch 98 when he needs it to, combines it with a good slider and a change-of-pace 12-6 curve, good changeup, moves to bullpen after poor WBC 39 campaign
RHP #56 Damian Ryan, 25 - plus fastball at 93-95 with a good curveball, decent changeup and fringy slider; definite punch-out ability, but needs to get motion and walks under control; tall, slim frame
RHP #30 Lee Bradley, 27 - fastball 87-88 with a good amount of run, sharp slurve at 82 plus a decent changeup; submarine arm angle gets him a lot of outs, but stuff is legit
RHP #43 Casey Burke, 28 - former 9th round draft pick has burst on to the scene for Newfield, 150/48 K/BB ratio in 118 innings over past two years, fastball at 94-96, great changeup at 82, pretty decent hook as well
RHP #23 Nick Christensen, 26 - failed starter, but posted otherworldly 1.13 ERA last year as a reliever, combines 98 MPH fastball with 88 MPH slider

C #60 Gabe Roberson, 30 (R/R) - big arm and data say he's one of the best at framing pitches, hit tool getting better
C #18 Chris Floyd, 27, (R/R), - great bat for a catcher but still struggles with taking walks and avoiding strikeouts; good arm behind the plate but not very mobile, game-calling skills better now
C #51 Max Pope, 24, (S/R) - whiz kid defensively behind the plate, showed flashes of power last year and has a great eye

1B #21 Anthony Brooks, 33, (R/R), - can really pick it at first, a real leader who will hit for average and moderate power, don't be surprised if he steals a few either
3B #50 Seth Armstrong, 30, (R/R), - Armstrong has light-tower power and a strong arm, defense is only average, improved his average
SS #11 Brendan Wood, 29, (R/R) - hit tool is good, with both moderate power and good average, takes his fair share of walks as well, defense has really improved
2B #6 John Carr, 29, (R/R) - this guy is a human highlight reel, with amazing ball flips, over-the-shoulder catches, diving stops, and sweet double plays, can take a walk and hit some doubles, moderate speed as well, hitting for average has improved to get him this spot
3B #26 Ken Morton, 33, (R/R), - good range with great arm, dead pull hitter with power
SS #25 Tyler McKenzie, 34, (L/R), - McKenzie is a former top prospect who has bloomed into a strong defender and solid left-handed bat,

OF #24 Ty Oliver, 33, (R/R) - Oliver is a freak of an athlete who has refined his game, massive power and speed with an amazing arm
OF #35 Michael Holt, 29, (R/R) - only below-average tool is arm strength; has above-average speed and power; walks well and has cut down on strikeouts; defense has gotten a lot better
OF #29 Moses Deng, 26, (S/R) - speed is 80 on the 20-80 scale, arm is above-average, hit tool is average, fielding is above-average, power is below average, has only been playing baseball since 15, but now good enough to start on NT
OF #27 Chris Underwood, 32, (S/R) - Underwood's hit tool is still developing, but speed, defense, and arm are all top-notch
OF #40 Chris Townsend, 28, (L/L) - defense is above-average with average arm; speed is a tick above average; a player who can play any outfield position; he can hit for average, defend, and take a walk, massive leap forward to get this job

Orlando Murray #55 (Manager)

Aubrey Bell #1 (Hitting Coach)

Greg Richardson #47 (Pitching Coach)

Dale Garner #9 (1st Base Coach)

Casey Cain #8 (3rd Base Coach)

Marcellus Maloney #15 (Bench Coach)
