NationStates College Football Season 17

Image

It's that time of year... take it all in as the tuba's rumbles reverberate through the iconic campus stadia. Each one packed with generations of alumni returning to partake in the traditions of their beloved alma mater. The aromas of popcorn and beer sift out through the bleachers. The bright lights shine down on armored teams battling under the night sky, school bragging rights and a grueling summer of work on the line. Ah, yes. It's college football season. Glory, Drama, Pride.

A historic seventeenth edition of NationStates College Football is upon us. In this thread, you will post your team's roster and all in-character roleplays. These can be game reports, character dialogues, or really anything you like. Any out-of-character questions should be directed towards the discussion thread or telegram.

Post-NSCF 16 Rankings Here

...

With 42 teams entering the fray, it will again be the biggest season since NSCF 7! Seven conferences will have six teams each. 12 teams will make the Playoffs: the seven conference champions plus the next best three by OSPI clinching automatically and, finally, two wildcards selected by the NSCF committee. The 12 teams will then be seeded purely by OSPI. Higher seeds will have home advantage until the final, which will take place at a neutral venue. Any nation can put together a bid to host the NSCF Championship (IC only) before the start of Non-Conference week, when it will then be voted on by the NSCF Committee.

New and returning players alike are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the NSCF procedure here. The regular season will be double round-robin, for a total of 10 games. Games will be scorinated three times a week: on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Scores will be posted in this thread at a time determined by each conference's designated scorer. After all ten conference games, there will be a "Non-Conference Week", with each team playing up to three games against opposition from other conferences. These games will not count toward conference championships, but WILL affect playoff seedings. All Non-Conference games must be arranged by the teams playing them and confirmed by both in the discussion thread.

...

In addition to the playoffs, there also a few consolation bowl games for teams that do not reach the postseason. If your nation proposes a bowl game to host, you are responsible for inviting the teams yourself if it does not have automatic parameters for selection. The Pioneer Bowl is a traditional game for the two best performing newcomer teams not in the playoffs. After that, NSCF will not recognize any bowl game involving a team with an OSPI below 0.450.

Ramusok Capital University (RCU) Dragons

Image

Location: Ramusok, Ramusok Fief, Cosumar

School Size: 54,657 undergraduates

NSCF Championships: 3 (NSCF 10, 15, 16) | Conference Titles: 4 (NSCF 2, 3, 11, 15)

Team History and Outlook: RCU was one of the original NSCF 1 schools and has participated in all seventeen editions of the event, making it one of the most storied programs in NSCF history. Ramusok Capital won its first NSCF Championship seven seasons ago against fellow bluebloods Utica, the culmination of a long, painful rebuilding process that began in NSCF 6. After following up the long-awaited title with a Horizon Conference championship in NSCF 11, they were dethroned for a couple seasons by domestic rivals Stoneshore College and noisy foreigners Harbor College. Head Coach Snorri Andersen was then fired after failing to make the playoffs in NSCF 14. The challenge then fell to new head coach Cliff Scuttlesmith to get RCU's mojo back. And boy did he ever. NSCF 15, Scuttlesmith's first at the helm, was the best season in RCU history. For the first time, the Dragons won both the Horizon Conference and the NSCF Playoffs. In NSCF 16, RCU successfully defended their title and became the first back-to-back champions in NSCF history. Is a historic three-peat in store? Until their first championship in NSCF 10, RCU's best finishes were runs to the semifinals in NSCF 1 and 2.

Stoneshore College Bruins

Image

Location: Cape Dutch, Stoneshore, Cosumar

School Size: 29,545 undergraduates

Championships: 1 (NSCF 11), Conference Titles: 3 (NSCF 10, 12, 13)

Team History and Outlook: Stoneshore have shed the role of "RCU's punching bag" in recent seasons, stepping out from the shadows and becoming a Horizon Conference contender in their own right. The year RCU won Cosumar's first NSCF title (NSCF 10), Stoneshore actually had the better regular season at 9-1. A year later in NSCF 11, the perpetual "little brother" finally had their revenge for years of misery at the Dragons' hands. The Bruins knocked their rivals out of the Playoffs and won a NSCF championship of their own. With their NSCF 13 conference title, Stoneshore matched RCU's total at the time with three - and went all the way to the Championship Game again, where they lost by 3 to Utica. The last couple seasons, however, have been a bit of a regression to the mean. The Bruins missed the Playoffs again for the second straight season. A strong bounce-back season is needed to keep RCU, who are on a title-high, from taking back the balance of power completely. On paper, they have just as good of coaches and recruits. It will be fascinating to see if their strength in NSCF 10-14 can be restored or if it was just a temporary spike. The Bruins had a poor debut in NSCF 2, and had never even reached the postseason until NSCF 10. The turnaround in the last six years can be directly attributed to the arrival of legendary CFL coach Walter Hufnagel and his ambitious recruiting.

University of Paulo Prepares for NSCF 17

The University of Paulo Cubs' coaches have selected their roster for the upcoming NSCF season. Head coach Aran Atwood seemed pleased with the players that have been chosen but he is keeping expectations at a sensible level as the university becomes the first club side to compete at an international level, in any sport. In his press conference earlier he said 'We have a very strong side at our disposal but we're not expecting miracles, we'll be striving to win the Pioneer Bowl but we have to be realistic and understand that there are some top teams in the competition.' + Drawkian culture requires that most students study for 5 years for an average bachelor's degree.
Thus, players have up to 5 years of eligibility. 5th year players are denoted as "+Senior".

Like all Drawkians, especially international caliber ones, Sadeg State's players are a top notch group with much to offer skill-wise. The offense primarily operates out of the shotgun with a back lining up alongside the QB, but the most common under-center formation has to be the I. The pistol make a common appearance, and don't be surprised to see a Wildcat every once in awhile. The run/pass split is around a 55/45, but with the talented Dustin Beck taking the snaps, don't be surprised to see many designed passes ending up in scrambles for big chunks of yards. Drag routes, slants, mid-distance crosses, posts, and corner routes are the most common in SSU's playbook. Runs are often a generic pitch, runs up the gut, or - Coach Manlio's favorite - option plays. SSU is known for having massive talent on the offensive side of the ball, especially in the backfield, but also lining up wide. Watch for tight end passes for huge gains, they're a common target in this scheme.

And while the team is renowned for its offense, you can't discount the defense. Talented shutdown corners and DBs are the hallmark and the pass rush is fantastic, but pass defense in the middle of the field leaves a lot to be desired from the Linebackers. The biggest issue about the Skyhawk's secondary is that they go for the ball too much - while this results in lots of turnovers, a missed pick obviously results in an opposing receiver in the open field. Blitzes sit on top of the playbook at SSU, just like many Drawkian books. Don't expect to run a similar running play twice, the front 7 is likely to come up with a counter blitz on the fly and smack the back for a loss of yards. Man coverage is called about 70/30 versus Zone coverage, another reason why missed interceptions are dangerous. Cover 2 Man coverage with a 4-3 front is the most common play the defense will run.

Special teams is known for its trick plays, but they don't run them as often as, say, the Grid Corps would. The SSU offense would be much more likely to stay out in 4th and under 2 than bring out the special teams for a fake or a regular punt/kick. Speaking of punts/kicks, the return game for the Skyhawks is also fearsome, with massively fast and shifty players returning most balls, not to mention the regularity of laterals during returns (not that they do much of that outside of special teams though). As far as kicking, the punters and kickers kick about as good as, say, college kickers or punters. Nothing special there, although they do err on the side of power over accuracy (good luck praying for a kick 6).

Also, see this dispatch about Drawkian physiology. If you don't want to deal with that though feel free to just handwave or ignore it, it's fine by me.

Interview with Akers state coach

Postby Northwest Kalactin » Wed Sep 20, 2017 4:08 pm

Today Akers state was practicing after the coach went to a press conference
[we saw your team working on offense a lot today your RB looked strong did you give him any words of encouragement during or before the practice ]
Not really although we told him to work hard so that might have affected his performance.
[today during the practice game CB Trent Havon made 6 interceptions were you impressed or is he usually like this]
Well Trent is a freshman so we were very impressed with him especially with 2 pick six's but he was our top recruit this year and he had 31 interceptions in high school including 15 in his senior year but the team looked strong so we feel like we are ready.

Key Losses:
Candle Brown: Candle Brown was an adept free safety who had a penchant for coming down with the ball. He will be sorely missed in Richardson's defensive backfield.

Ross Monarch: Ross was the best middle linebacker at his level in Ranoria. He was a decent blitzer, above average in coverage, but was a protege when it came to shedding blocks, or even meeting a running back in the hole that was supposed to be opened for him.

Jarett Hauptmann: An excellent, and pure, edge rusher. Despite playing in a 4-3 base, having a player of his talent made Hauptmann a situational player, and he excelled in his area of expertise. He will be sorely missed on the college field, all the while being praised at the professional level.

Carlos Junior: One part of an above-average pass-rushing duo at defensive end, Junior will likely not be among the top ten talents in the RFL draft, but being in one of the first two rounds is a possibility.

Joey Giordano: Never the best pass catcher, but an excellent run blocker and a major red zone threat. Saw fewer receptions in his senior year after the breakout season of Johnny Farmer.

Anthony Foster: The reliable #2 wideout for the governors went on to the pros as well. While lacking in speed, his size allows him to go up and get passes in the red zone, making him a perfect complement to a speedster #1 receiver.

Soup Shorts: The team's mainstay running back, despite injuries, managed to still put up a few solid performances this season, and will hopefully be seen as a reliable back in any system at the professional level.

Player bios:
John 'Farmboy' Garrett, Quarterback: John Garrett quickly showed his ability as a passer last season, being thrust into international competition in his first game as a starter. He's quickly earned a reputation amongst the professional leagues as a rising star, and is hoping to continue that success after winning a championship in Ranoria.

Melvin 'Big Time' Strong, Running Back: Melvin Strong struggled early with injuries, not exactly having the size to deal with the hits he had to take as an every-down back, but now he's managed to put some size on while maintaining his speed and athleticism, and should be a dominant offensive weapon this season.

Javier Gilmore, Wide Reciever: Javier Gilmore, along with tight end Johnny Farmer, is coming off a heroic performance in the domestic season's championship game with more than two hundred yards and a score. He would have declared for the draft this year had he not wanted to prove that he could continue his dominance, and he's back for one more year, now.

Johnny 'Harvest' Farmer, Tight End: Johnny Farmer is one of the best players not just on the team, but in the nation. He's shown himself to be nigh-impossible to cover, displaying an incredible ability to come down with the football in almost any situation. Last year, it earned him an Offensive Player of the Year award, and, in the domestic season, a dominant three score, hundred plus yard outburst in the national championship game. He's hoping to build off of that success now, in an offense lacking the same firepower at wideout as it had last year.

Bradley Johnson, Guard: Perhaps one of the team's most underrated players, Johnson is a force in the run game, opening massive holes for his backs, and is no slouch in pass protection, either. He's able to play anywhere on the interior line, and is sometimes moved around to correlate with tougher, disruptive defensive tackles.

Kevin 'Thunk' Gerhart, Defensive Tackle: Gerhart is a monster on the defensive line, playing with a relentless abandon to do one thing: Get to the quarterback or punish the back who dares run the ball into his vicinity. He's actually a really nice guy off the field, but between the lines, your best bet is to double team him and pray.

Davon 'Lights Out' Stovall, Cornerback: No, he didn't get his name from his play, although his freakish athleticism, ability to change speeds, and hands have frustrated receivers, quarterbacks, and coordinators since he stepped onto the field. Stovall doesn't talk much, and nobody really minds when you can shut down opposing receivers like he can. While he is quiet, the way he actually got his nickname was giving an opposing quarterback a concussion when he was sent to blitz.

Maxwell 'Hammer' Blunt, Strong Safety: Max doesn't get too many interceptions, but what he does do is enforce the middle of the field. Running a crossing route can earn you a broken rib as long as he's on the field, and often his hits jar the ball loose for an incompletion, or even a fumble.

Emmanuel Miller, Defensive End: After the departure of Carlos Junior, the team needed another disruptive presence on the defensive line's edge. Fortunately, they had a redshirted prospect who was absurdly tall, having redshirted him due to his low weight relative to that size. In his first year of eligibility, the staff hopes that he will turn this defensive line into a monstrous unit to contend with.

Player bios:
Angelo Gordon: Many claimed that the defense's designated pass rusher is the best player on the team after a 12.5 sack redshirt freshman campaign, where he amassed a total of sixty tackles, ten forced fumbles, and two interceptions, but his sophomore campaign was even greater, racking up 17 sacks, seventy four tackles, nine forced fumbles, and four interceptions. On a defense with a lot of holes, Gordon was a bright spot, making plays often enough to give their offense a chance to win the game. Despite losing to Richardson in Ranoria's championship game, he compiled an impressive two sacks in the first quarter of the game before the domination truly began.

Deangelo Gordon: Certainly not the player that his brother his, Gordon is a true freshman who was a balanced pass rush and run stopping interior lineman who was occasionally bumped to the outside. Deangelo is a heavy, powerful man with the ability to beat double teams and collapse the pocket while soaking up blockers for his older brother.

Carlson and Caleb Katterfield: Another duo of brothers, these two playing running back. They are from the same mold: Fast, explosive runners who can be three-down players. Carlson's advantage over his brother is age and experience, but they are interchangeable backs for the most part.

Thorn Davis: The most widely recruited quarterback among this year's class, Davis was what drew many of the team's talented freshman recruits to the team. He has the arm to make every throw in the book, along with the height and athleticism to dominate the game in any way he desires, but he needs coaching to refine that talent. He managed to keep up with Richardson's dominant offense in the championship game for awhile, but eventually his mistakes led to a collapse of 3 second half interceptions.

Jarett Hauptmann: The #1 overall recruit in Ranoria was no easy snag, but seeing Davis come out to the school was what made the decision for him. Another true freshman starter on an impressive roster had an impressive season. His massive frame and imposing athleticism make him a matchup issue for any cornerback in the league.

Jabari McNair: One of the few 'veterans' on this roster, McNair provided an anchor to a passing attack led by youngsters this season, and used his powerful, if somewhat diminutive, frame to impose his will on opposing defenses on his way to 1,100 yards and 14 TDs.

Klara North: Perhaps the most intriguing recruit out of the group, Klara weaseled her way into playing football, and running, at a smaller school, and was overly successful in both sports. She isn't the most physical corner, but her speed and overall skill set make up for that lack of size and power.

Marcell Salley: A redshirt freshman, Salley created a good deal of buzz coming out of high school, and, in his first year of eligibility,
answered every question thrown his way with a ridiculous 7 interceptions along with 4.5 sacks. His inexperience, however, occasionally causes him to allow big plays when he tries to make one of his own, putting him out of position.

I don't mind minor injuries to my players, they can pick scoring events, etc. Just don't have anyone go down for the season or ending, and keep it realistic. (ex: If you don't have the best defense, don't have my QB throwing 4 INTs or something absurd. You know, nothing extreme.

I go by Ran. Unless, of course, you want to type out Ranoria. That's your decision.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Scorers: Yes (TG me in advance)
Choose Scoring Events: Yes (TG me in advance)
Godmod Scoring Events: No
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes (TG me in advance)
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Yes (TG me in advance, some are aye, others are nay)
Godmod Other Events: Depends. TG me first before I give you aye or nay.It is also expected that in many non-big/traditional matches (so in Woodlands, that'd be against Utica or other Quebecois chools, while in nonconference games it would vary depending on opponent record), those in 2nd and 3rd string would be given most of the playing time, as NSCF ICly has been falling in Quebecois late winter-mid springtime.

Head Coach: Horace Browning, former Defensive Coordinator of the Stoneshore College Bruins, including of their NSCF 11 championship team, is starting his 6th season as the head coach at Northern Moravica University. He has a 25-15 overall record at Northern Moravica in NSCF play, with 2 Celestia Conference Championships (NSCF 12 & NSCF 13), as well as owning a 3-1 record against archrivals Loyola in NSCF play. However, he is starting to feel pressure as Northern fans feel that Loyola is overtaking their school.

Offensive Coordinator: Joon Ho Kweon is 28 years old, and in his first season as the offensive coordinator at Northern Moravica University. Recognized as a quarterback guru in the traditional football power nation of the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, he has been quarterbacks coach at Saguenay for 2 years, and coached Quebecois legends like Dexter Ahn, as well as gotten every ounce of talent out of Simon Gacek and Walter Brown. As the offensive coordinator now, he will expected to develop Bastiaan Rodo, as well as give some life to an offense that has struggled over the past few years, and particularly struggled at the quarterback position.

Defensive Coordinator & Assistant Head Coach: Lance Bearings is in his 6th season as the Northern Moravica defensive coordinator.

Special Teams Coordinator: Milan Antun is in his 6th season as the Northern Moravica special teams coordinator

QB Chae Heung Kim. 6'5, 245 pounds. Royal Kingdom of Quebec. #1 overall high school prospect in Quebec.
TE/MLB Hector Sosa-Onyeaju. 6'4, 261 pounds. Royal Kingdom of Quebec.

Retired numbers: #4 Pelias Patras. Set the national collegiate record for passing touchdowns in a career(95), and school record for passing yards in a career(9,977). Is the only quarterback in school history to start every single game for 4 years. Only quarterback in school history to beat archrivals Loyola University-Istria 3 times in a row(coinciding NSCF 1, 2,3). Went to three straight national championship games(coinciding NSCF 1, 2, and 3) and won two national championships(coinciding NSCF 1 & 3).

Rivals: Currently the biggest rival of Northern Moravica University is Loyala-University Istria, who the Cougars have played once a season the last 55 seasons. All-time, they have played 69 times, with Northern holding a 38-33-2 edge in the series over their archrivals. These two teams have long been seen as the top two college football teams in Banija, and indeed, their stranglehold over Banijan college sports has continued, with Northern and Loyola combining for the last 6 national championships. When it was discussed for which team should debut Banija on the world stage for college football, it ultimately came down to these two, and after heating exchanges of words between both Athletic Directors and School Presidents in public, and the Mayors of Istria & Herzegovina City, the Banijan College Sports Group(BCSG) decided on a 11-8 vote to send Northern.

Entrance: There is a unique stadium entrance at home games for the Cougars football team. A starting senior on each side of the football stands outside the tunnel, each one holding the school flag. They stand opposite each other with the flags lowered, and then raise the flags and let the entire team run through. After the team and staff runs through, those two starters run to the middle of the field and each plant their flag on the logo, signifying that this is their home field, and that they will fight to defend home field.

Head Coach: Alastair Jobs is 61 years old, and in his 20th season coaching at Loyola. The offensive minded coach has a knack for developing quarterbacks and has a knack to throw, rather than run, the football.

Offensive Coordinator & Assistant Head Coach: Dennis Zervos is beginning his first year as offensive coordinator. The new OC led the school to a NSCF 14 Title when he was the NSCF's Most Outstanding Player, and led the team to national championship (coinciding with NSCF 15). When he went pro early, he suffered a pair of ACL injuries in his rookie year, and injured both ACLs against to start his second season, effectively ending his professional career. With his living legend status at the school, considering he has a ring, a MOP trophy, and his father is the AD, he was a peculiar choice to replace the retiring George Hughes. Only 23 years old, he played with a few of these players in the NSCF 14 title run, and we'll see if his skills from the field can translate to the sideline.

Defensive Coordinator & Assistant Head Coach: Joseph Lukwago is in his 7th season as the defensive coordinator, running a 3-4 defense.

Special Teams Coordinator: Isaac Lutaboke is in his 5th season as the special teams coordinator.

Corrin Fairless, CB, Ranoria. 5'11, 198 pounds, 4.49 40 yard dash.

The All-Banija Sports Magazine
The only nationwide publication that is all sports, all the time!

Season Preview for Banija's Return to the NSCF

ISTRIA- After two years playing on the national level, both the University of Loyola-Istria and Northern Moravica University have reached an agreement to play in the NSCF permanently. While in our next issue, we'll go in depth in the story of what took the two schools out of the NSCF, and we'll also go in depth on what brought them back. But for now.. Football! For today's issue, we have a preview of how both teams will do within the Celestia Conference.

University of Loyola-Istria

ISTRIA- The first school to start a preview with, of course, is the University of Loyola-Istria. While Loyola was the second, and indeed, the final school brought over to the NSCF from Banija, it is arguable that they have made more out of their 2 years in the NSCF than Northern Moravica made with their 3 years in the NSCF. The Blue Thunder are undefeated in the postseason, with a stellar 4-0 postseason record, which includes their NSCF 13 Pioneer Bowl victory, alongside their playoff run in NSCF 14 that got them the championship in their own city, at the beautiful Liberty Stadium.

Of course, they never got the opportunity to defend their title. But here they are, in NSCF 17, with an opportunity to win another one. The Celestia Conference is looking to be wide open this year. Leopard Central University, who were also rans the last time Loyola participated in this competition, finishing in the cellar of the Celestia Confererence in 2014, are the defending champs, but they are not returning to defend their conference championship. Therefore, the conference is absolutely wide open, and it is there for the taking for the University of Loyola-Istria.

Both Banijan schools have brand new offensive coordinators. The Blue Thunder, of course, have made the fare more controversial choice by hiring Dennis Zervos, the Most Outstanding Player Award winner in NSCF 14, and the quarterback of that season's champion, has been made the team's offensive coordinator at the young age of 24. This choice has attracted much controversy, even though everybody seems to love Dennis Zervos, as his accomplishments have made him the stuff of school legend.

Zervos suffered a number of injuries that prevented him from really taking off his professional career. In his rookie training camp with the Istria Lions, in the very first preseason game, he took an ugly hit where he tore his ACL on both legs. After spending a year in recovery, he took another hit in training camp to his right leg, tore his ACL again, and immediately retired. Even though he was a collegiate football legend in Banija, it seemed as if he was not destined to have a long playing career. Then, of course, came George Hughes retirement.

George Hughes had been with this side for over 5 years. But when he got an offer from his alma mater, at the University of Ankole, to become head coach, he couldn't say no. As we'll document in our next issue, he was basically the only proponent of staying at the national level in the entirety of the Loyola community, so the move made sense for him on a number of different levels. And then they needed a coordinator, just as Zervos retired. Now, of course, Zervos was supposed to join the coaching staff, but simply as a Recruiting Assistant. He was going to learn the ropes of coaching, and take his time to rise through the ranks.

Then, this is where stories differ. One version says that Patrick Zervos, Dennis' father who is also the Athletic Director and, therefore, Coach Jobs' boss, asked Coach Jobs to hire Zervos as the new offensive coordinator, even though Coach Jobs wanted to look abroad for a new offensive coordinator. Another school of thought says that Coach Alastair Jobs wants Zervos in the job so he could dominate the offense. And a third school of thought, is that the respect of the offensive mind of Zervos is there, and that he can really grow into the position.

Whichever one is correct, is not really relevant to the conversation. What matters is that Dennis Zervos is the offensive coordinator, and one of the youngest coordinators in the NSCF. He is going to be constantly scrutinized- is he actually ready to be a coordinator at this level, with no coaching experience whatsoever? How can somebody coach an offense that is littered with his former teammates, just from a few years ago from their title run?

Regardless of the offensive coordinator spot, Loyola has to start as at least the slight favorite to win this conference. Their key game before the first North v. South Showdown has to be their visit to Fair Haven State. A historical NSCF school, they will feel as if they have every right to compete for a title just as much as Loyola. That will be a true test of this team's nerves, and how they handle their return and if they can return to their dominant form in conference play.

Ultimately, while we cannot predict a record as they still have a non-conference game to schedule, we'll predict that they finish 7-3 in conference, and finish second in the conference to their archrivals. Too many questions for this team that they need to answer, and their offensive coordinator is simply far too young. Which leads us to..

Northern Moravica University

HERZEGOVINA CITY- This is a team in a very different place than Loyola-Istria. Their two years back in national play did not go as well as hoped for them- 3 losses in a row to their archrivals, and two national championship losses, one to Loyola-Istria and the other to Kizza I College. Even as the 'premier' school of Banija, as they did go the NSCF first before any other Banijan school, including Loyola, and while holding 2 Celestia Conference championships to Loyola's 1, as well as a 3-1 record over Loyola in conference play, not all is well in Herzegovina City.

Even though Northern Moravica has been in the NSCF longer, Loyola can credibly claim that they have had more success at this level than Northern Moravica has. The two indicators are the 4-0 postseason record Loyola has racked up, with its playoff victories as well as its Pioneer Bowl victory in NSCF 13, and, of course, the NSCF 14 title that Loyola brought to Istria on their first ever trip to the playoffs. What gives? This is a frustrating experience for Northern fans, who have had to endure the taunts of Loyola fans in this football crazy region.

Horace Browning has generally been viewed as a success, but there is frustration in certain corners of the fan base that started to grow after NSCF 14, as a coach that Northern Moravica needed to get to a conference championship level, but there are doubts beginning to grow that Horace Browning can truly take this team to the next level. Can he get the job done? He has said repeatedly that he is 'not worried about his own job prospects', and he truly has accomplished a lot at Northern Moravica- how many schools won back-to-back conference championships in the NSCF in their first two seasons?

That, in and of itself, is an amazing accomplishment. But we wouldn't be having this conversation at all about Horace Browning if it wasn't for the rapid rise of Loyola-Istria. While a season sweep of the rivalry in NSCF 13 didn't show this could happen, Loyola-Istria took the world by storm and won the title, therefore raising the bar for Northern Moravica. The inherent problem about a rivalry as fierce as this, with these two schools in this kind of region, is that they will always be judged in light of what the other does. It comes with the territory of the sport, of course.

His major achilles heel has been quarterback play. While he has generally gotten excellent defensive play, he has struggled to develop at the quarterback position. He decided to look abroad, and after firing Peter Ras, hired the 28 year old quarterback guru out of the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, Joon Ho Kweon. The quarterbacks coach at Saguenay for the past two years, he is regarded as one of the best offensive minds in the country, as well as one of the best quarterbacks coaches in the country, and that says a lot for a country that is such a world power at every level in this sport.

It's put up or shut up now for Horace Browning. He's went and got himself the quarterbacks coach, and with an entire offseason to work with Bastiaan Rodo, we'll see how this redshirt senior looks when he steps on the field against Fair Haven State in week 1. If Northern Moravica can finally figure it out at the quarterback position, they have the tools to make a deep run through the postseason, and if they miss the playoffs again while Loyola wins the Celestia... well, the pressure will really start to ramp up on Horace Browning.

Ultimately, we predict this team will finish 9-1 in conference play and win the Celestia Conference title, their 3rd in their 4 overall seasons of the NSCF. Their loss will be at the Istria Lightning Yard. There is too much talent up and down this roster, and the defense is going to be a brick wall, with a stunning 9 out of 11 starters on defense being seniors. This team is experienced, and every single one of those seniors was a freshman in NSCF 14, so this team will be hungry. This is a team that feels as if they deserve a return trip to the playoffs after a 3 year hiatus, and we expect Coach Browning to take them back there.

Wyverns Return To International Play

The UArk Wyverns will return to international play after a lengthy hiatus, AD Tom Jackson reported in a presser today, after much discussion about a return. The Wyverns are one-time world champions, and have established international rivalry games that should make for an exciting season as the Wyverns return to their historical international conference, the Woodlands. The rosters and coaching have changed greatly after some retirements since the Wyverns' last appearance.

The Wyverns are led by head coach Dave Gruber and offensive coordinator Mike Reed. Defensive coordinator Jack Kite leads a defense that bends but doesn't break. Coach Reed's high-powered, up-tempo offense was instituted two years ago after the retirement of the former offensive coordinator, and it took the Arkinesian college football world by storm, as quarterback Roland Bowen threw for a record 5,322 yards in the regular season alone, and another 1,184 in the playoffs, en route to another national championship. The defense did its part this past season as well, helping the Wyverns maintain a +8 turnover differential on the season.

Hopes are high for the Wyverns in international competition this season, as they bring an exciting, balanced team to the table. With an out-of-conference game scheduled for week three at international mainstay Ramusok Capital University, and a schedule loaded with Woodlands Conference powerhouses like the University of Utica, Wyverns fans have plenty to be excited for with the upcoming international schedule!

Calix City Inst. of Archaeology Kings Gridiron Team
NS College Football 17

Name: La République Nordique de Kebec
Quick Intro: La République Nordique de Kebec (The Nordic Republic of Kebec) is a small, breathtaking country situated in northwestern Atlantian Oceania, a smaller country of sorts, however, an ethnic mixing pots, 13 major ethnicities refer to Kebec as their delightful (and frigid) home, despite their ethnic difference, the nation is able to father around their love for the nation that is Kebec and work thru all strife to recognize the beauty and sanctity of this oasis. Grounded in our roots of the ancient Norse peoples who once populated and roamed our lands freely, we return to our olden roots and believe in the work and testament to the Gods while being accepting to all world cultures, Kebec is renowned for its Asgardian-styled architecture and the blessings bestowed upon itself by the Gods of Asgard.
Region: Atlantian Oceania
Nicknames: Kings (official, historical), Vince's Boys
Colors: Faded Gold, Puke Green, White
Stadium: Calix City Stadia (capacity 58 000)
(View Here)
Originally built to host the FCS Gridiron season one championship game back in 2032, the stadium was finally opened to the public in 2036 in anticipation for Calix City Institute of Archaeology's first season in NSCF which was four years ago at NSCF 16 - Calix City Stadia bidded to host the NSCF 16 championship - ultimately losing in the bidding process following poor procedures and limited knowledge of the intricaties of the workings of NSCF. Calix City Stadia is perhaps one of the most iconic things of Calix City - visible from its skyline at night, this is where many young Kebecois players dream of one day honing their crafts at. This is a shrine built to the football gods of Kebec, one cannot enter the stadium without seeing massive statues of the greats in the lore of Calix City - Fabien De Saint-Pierre, arguably Kebec's greatest-ever hockey player, Vince Dill, the iron commander of the Calix City gridiron juggernaut to name a few.

Surpassed only by perhaps the Stade National de Sario, Calix City Stadia is a cathedral in its own right, the Kebecois national gridiron team points it home to this ominous coliseum - in its eight-year existence, the Calix City Inst. of Arch. squad has lifted the Odin Bowl (national-title) in all three times of its participation, Porhos Subercaseaux has become immortalized in this rotunda of glory, from its façade to its shining white air-supported roof. Porthos Subercaseaux, CCIA's greatest-ever quarterback (8,500 passing-yards during domestic-play, 3,602 passing-yards during NSCF-play, 55 total touchdowns) remains perhaps the most iconic poster of Kebecois gridiron success, this stadium has built the Vince Dill-mindset and has made or broken countless FCS Gridiron seasons. The true test of Kebecois strength, this is perhaps the real meaning of Blood, Sweat and Tears.

Gridiron Association: National Gridiron Association (NGA), headquartered in Calix City, Thor Country.
    HA Chairman: Erikyour Pableton

Team History
The Calix City Institute of Archaeology Kings are a newer team in the NSCF scene - but they're just as storied as others, originally conceived in 2035, the side has won all three of Kebec's domestic collegiate-level gridiron competitions, winning all three Odin Bowls under the tutelage of Cosumarite coach Vince Dill. Since making their breakout onto the NSCF scene, the team has managed to climb to twenty-six in the rankings in their quest for dominance, last season, after a good showing, they finished third-overall in the Sequoia Conference, their first-ever appearance in NSCF, now with the conference considerably-weaker than last years, they're expectd to make a big step forward and essentially win their conference this time around - possibly compete in the playoffs too.

Expanded History: Calix City Institute of Archaeology is one of the best-known teams to ever paly in Kebec, a storied franchise/university, they've had skilled assets over the years, now, coming winning their unprecedented third domestic title under Head Coach Vince Dill and punching their ticket to their second-consecutive NSCF appearance, ready to write a new chapter in their quickly growing legend. CCIA is quickly on the rise in the multiverse, ranked twenty-sixth in the multiverse after only one edition of NSCF, they're expected to perform rather well this season, anything less than first will be a step back. After last season's 5-5 iffy-ish playing, this season, we're willing to bet that CCIA can deliver on an 8-2 season, and it'll have to be by the slimmest of margins to. The squad this season is talented, many returning people will make their mark this season, Porthos Subercaseaux will be sidelined for the first four games of the season, nursing a broken leg which has been in a cast since week eight of Kebec's domestic college gridiron, FCS Sommet 1 Gridiron. Unknown player, Adrien De Verley - who played in the FCS Sommet 1 Gridiron national championship is slated to start at quarterback.

Vince Dill has brought in a slue of changes from the last season of NSCF paly for CCIA to this one, most notably, the change of pace from a primarily defensive-sided team to one that hopes to produce more offense. In his biggest change of his three year tenure, Coach Dill broke away from his long-loved coaching-scheme of the Smashmouth Offense, instead choosing to switch to an Air Option scheme, this many believe is primarily to fuel to the strengths of quarterback-of-the-future Adrien De Verley, a pure pocket-passer with a cannon for an arm. Porthos Subercaeaux, now a senior this year is aiming to return to form by the fifth game of the season, seeing that Subercaeaux will not be able to run like he used too, Coach Dill is attempting to see Subercaeaux out with a respectable finale season, opting to allow him to toss the rock up a bit more, preferably into the right hands of course. On defense, a switch from a nickel formation brings a more ferocious 3-3-5 which is aimed at prevention and allowing for a mixture of zone and man-to-man playing, Coach Dill brought in upper-school coach, Zacharie Armada as the new CCIA defensive-coordinator, a pioneer at Xavier A. Lightman Upper School, Armada lead the Lightmen Astronauts to four consecutive Odin Country region championships before being moved to coach this team.

Info: The athletic director of Calix City Institute of Archaeology, Peter Phillips introduced CCIA's new sports logo displaying prominently three starts chronicling CCIA's three domestic national championship titles and paying homage to their popular nickname, "the Kings." As such, Kebecois kit-supplier, Oceanus Kits was targeted with creating for CCIA a new team kit to be used during NSCF 17, the creation was the now-popular "lard-green kit" which CCIA will use for the next three NSCF cycles/domestic seasons.

Richardson, Ranoria:

John Garrett, one of the more emotional quarterbacks that had success on the field, was coming off a rookie season in which he'd had to quickly take the reigns from Derek McNair, the domestic season starter, after McNair determined that he was going to opt out of international competition. Garrett proceeded to shred international competition in most appearances, tossing almost four thousand yards and almost thirty touchdowns. His best friend, and favorite target, had dominated that season as well, earning OPOY honors.

Together, they'd carried Richardson's offense to the Ranorian National Title game, beating down the rival Cold Hill Buffalo.

Now, they hope to continue that success into their second season of international competition. Even after many former stars went on to be selected in the RFL draft, a stunning total of seven players were selected, with three first rounders (Ross Monarch,ILB, #8; Jarett Hauptmann, OLB, #17; Candle Brown, FS, #29), two second rounders (Anthony Foster, WR; Carlos Junior, DE), and two fifth rounders, (Soup Shorts, RB; Joey Giordano, TE).

After their dominant domestic season, Richardson has already established its identity. A dominant, physical offensive line paves the way for all-purpose RB Melvin Strong and RB/FB Elijah Sampson, the two combining for 1,850 rushing yards, a far cry from their dismal rushing attack in their first international season, hopefully. But what makes it all go is quarterback John Garrett, and primary target Johnny Farmer at tight end. Farmer hauled in one hundred passes, flat, this season, and scored a ridiculous seventeen of Garrett's thirty five touchdowns, also claiming 1,350 of his 4,450 passing yards. Speedster #1 reciever, Javier Gilmore, meanwhile, managed a n 1,800 yard, 10 TD campaign on a mere sixty receptions.

The defense is led by the defensive lineman, and three year captain, Kevin Gerhart, who finished the year with 11.5 sacks, 15 TFL, and fifty total tackles, along with cornerback Davon Stovall, who allowed a mere ten receptions in his coverage, with as many interceptions. Mainstay DE Tank Brigaddine had an impressive seven sack campaign, and redshirt freshman DE Emmanuel Miller, while only claiming four sacks, batted down ten balls using his 6'9" frame.

The biggest worry with this Richardson team is a supposed frontloading. Beyond its best players, the team has very little extremely high-end talent. 2250 yards and 27 TDs of Garrett's 4,450 yard, 35 TD campaign came from two offensive players, and the defense heavily leans on the defensive line's disruption, relying on skilled, hard-hitting safety Maxwell Blunt and generational talent Davon Stovall to find a way to stop anything else.

Will their stars be able to carry them on through this season of NSCF with as much success as last season? That remains to be seen. At least from my end, it seems doubtful. After a crushing playoff defeat last season against the eventual NSCF champion Ramusok Capital Dragons, this team doesn't seem to have what it takes, especially with it's lesser talent. Even if they post an impressive regular season record, that won't be enough to carry them into the playoffs, especially after Ramusok crushes them again in the out of conference game, a horrible scheduling decision by an overconfident, egotistical coaching staff that scheduled a game against the #2 ranked Cold Hill Buffalo for week 6 of the regular domestic season, almost costing Richardson its perfect record.

"They do know that we had the school's first undefeated season ever," Johnny Farmer paused, helmet in one hand and newspaper in the other, placing the former in his locker, "right? Last year's team was great and all, but come on."

"Eh," John Garrett replied, throwing on a fresh shirt after their last pre game practice, "They're sports writers. They make bank every time they say something stupid. Just look at that guy who said Derek McNair wasn't going to be the best player in college football last season."
Fan of football, the Murican kind. But soccer is cool too! Just not really my thing. C(:^D/-<

GALLIAN MILITARY ACADEMY
Chevaliers

Image

The Gallian Military Academy is the main military school of the Gallian Union, training soldiers for the Gallian Army and the Air Force as well as various special forces units. It's located in the capital city, New West Gallia, and it has an enrollment of roughly 5,500. It's located in the northeastern suburbs of the city, and collegiate sports came to the school domestically when the school joined the Great West Conference some years back. Since them, the Military Academy is one of the top programs in the country, using precision and a highly tactical gameplan to break down more athletically talented teams. Current head coach Ben Moreman is in his third year, and looks to lead the team to an acceptable result in their first season of play in the Mineral Conference.

LINDON TECHNICAL COLLEGE
Aggies

Image

Lindon Technical, formerly Lindon Community College, entered the sports scene after the school was bought out by eccentric billionaire Zoe Baron and her company, Baron Enterprises. Baron upgraded the school in every area, and even the sports scene received a facelift. Some transfers were brought in, and other players were recruited from intramural teams to form the official school team. Gyan-Johnson University Swarm

School Information

Location: Godwin, Central Region, Aggrey-Fynn Land
Total Enrollment: 26,810
Colors: Black and Yellow

Team Information

Gyan-Johnson plays in the Eastern Central Conference (ECC) domestically for all sports except for American Football. The reason why they do not participate in their normal conference for American Football is because their football program is jointly ran with the Lander Football Association. The LFA decided to start a national team development program this year, and has used Gyan-Johnson University as a pilot school. The program takes the best college-level players in Aggrey-Fynn Land and puts them on one team. Since the quality of Gyan-Johnson's team would surpass all the other teams in their domestic college football league, the LFA elected to pull them out of the ECC and join the NSCF, both so the domestic teams could play other teams of a similar level, and Gyan-Johnson's players could get experience on the multiversal stage playing the best teams possible. Since the team is affiliated with the national team, it is generally used as a part of the national pool; some players could get pulled up to the national team, and almost everyone goes on to play professionally after college (barring a career-ending injury). The team technically doubles as a U-23 national team, and the rules of the development program allow for players to stay for a fifth year of eligibility as long as they are under the age of 23 at the start of the season.

Stadium: Nana Kofi Memorial Stadium (85,000 capacity)

The Vanderleigh Saga

Chapter One

Lochtown, 1903

Four hooded riders stopped at the edge of the small riverside town, staring at the road ahead and contemplating one last time whether it was a good idea to step inside or not. Once they went in, there would be no going back. Once they went in, they were throwing their lot in with the people that they were here for. The ones that had been imprisoned by the Nepharim garrison for their attempts at inciting a rebellion. “Let’s go over the supplies one more time,” said the second rider, Boyd Shira. “Have we all got our rifles? Our shotguns? Extra ammunition?”

“Check, check, check, and check,” said the first rider, Jacob Van Der Lay. They remained still for some moments, still making the decision. After all, the chances were likely that they would still be outgunned, with their only advantage being surprise. “And if needed, the explosives. There’s enough arms between us to clear this place out, but hopefully it won’t come to that. We get in, get our people, and get out before there’s a full response.”

“And you’re sure about this,” said the third rider, a gruff man who also had a cavalry sword at his hip. “Sure that you want to do something that’s going to have us all branded as traitors, and put on the wanted list. All for something that may spark revolution, but may just get us locked up or hung. The second seems more likely, considering the tensions and the state of our cities right now.”

“Better to die by a Nepharim bullet than live without our pride,” Van Der Lay said, and he took the reins of his horse again and advanced into the town. The others were close behind, stopping when they were one building away from the prison. The prison, though, was more like a fort. It had at least three Nepharim soldiers around it at all times, because of the valuable prisoners there. It wasn’t just any ordinary prison. It was the one being used to hold some of the colony’s most wanted rebels, who had picked up their activities in recent months. “It’s now or never.”

“Sir, we’re going to need you to remove your hood. The same goes for your company-” a soldier started, before Van Der Lay blasted him through the chest with his shotgun. And with that, they’d crossed the line that they couldn’t uncross. The riders dismounted, and raised their rifles and shotguns and fired on the security forces, moving swiftly and going around the back, which was the part of the prison that would be the closest to the part they needed. Boyd pushed the door open, and quickly reached for a pistol and took out the only guard in sight before that guard could draw a weapon of his own.

“Find Reuben Muir,” Boyd said, starting down the row of cells as the three others trailed behind. They split up at the end of the row, searching for the man that they wanted before the full security response would arrive. Once that happened, they’d be outgunned for sure. Two soldiers entered the cell area, but they were stopped quickly when Jacob raised his rifle and laid down suppression shots. “Preferably, quickly.”

The fourth rider was the one to find the prisoners that they wanted. “No time to set the explosives,” he added after calling the others over. “Jacob, can you grab the key from that downed soldier?”

And so Jacob doubled back and got the key, while Boyd took over for suppressing the entrance. He quickly unlocked the first cell, and then the two cells that belonged to Muir’s accomplices, Kyle Govan and Elliot Huston. The place was about to fill up with soldier, and so Jacob took a step back and waved towards the back exit. “Hurry, Lord Muir. There’s horses outside.”

“Who are you young men with?” asked the older wealthy landowner, following closely behind the group of rebels as Jacob took up the rear and watched for any threats from behind. “You look like a group of Lindoners to me, I’m surprised to see you here in the south.”

“Guilty as charged. We’re not with any group per say, we’re just a few well meaning citizens who heard the news coming out of Lochtown. We want to fight for the Confederation. For Gallia and all its tribes. All of us knew that we could get the ball rolling with that by rescuing you and your accomplices,” said Jacob, as they exited the building and quickly mounted their rides, preparing for a quick escape. It would be back into the forest for them, and hopefully, they would be able to lose the Nepharim soldiers in the woods that they knew better than anyone. After all, the same kind of forests could be found in Lindon.

“You’re very brave, I’ll give you that. Maybe a little crazy, but definitely brave. What do they call you?”

“Jacob, sir. Jacob Van Der Lay.”

Godwin, Aggrey-Fynn Land, Present Day

The stands weren’t completely full for this preseason exhibition, and the atmosphere was much more relaxed than a normal game, but that didn’t mean the pressure wasn’t on when the situation turned to a third and five in the fourth quarter, with the Gallian Military Academy down 17-21 with about six minutes to go. There were position battles to think about, and head coach Ben Moreman was watching the players like a hawk to see who was the best in clutch situations like this. “Let’s let Alex make a play here,” Moreman said into his headset, and offensive coordinator Clancy Leap nodded down the sideline.

“Gun right open, push pull right, panther, panther,” Leap spoke into his own headset, giving the play to quarterback Alex Irvine. The Chevaliers set up in their traditional pistol formation, lining up with Kyle Ridell, Mason Profit, and Kai Bigham on the weak side of the formation. Flanker Cameron Darrow was lined up behind the normal tight end slot on the other side, and Alex was lined up about three steps deep instead of the usual five.

“Gold! Gold! Eighteen… GO!” shouted Irvine, and the ball was snapped to him as Kyle Mirron dropped back to pull from the guard position, with Finley Hasson moving up to throw a low block on the DT. It looked like a screen play, but it was a designed run that had gotten them a number of yards earlier in the game. Mirron slammed into the strong side linebacker and drove him back three or four yards, while Darrow took out the corner with a diving chop block. It was open field ahead for Alex, and it looked like he was about to take to the end zone.

“Go, go, go!” the players on the sideline were screaming, as one of the safeties shifted back from pass coverage to come towards Alex like a heat seeking missile. But would his approach be quick enough to catch the slippery quarterback before he stepped across the line? In hindsight, Alex probably should have slid, but he was used to taking hits. He went for the touchdown, but the safety hit him like a truck. And the hit came low, because a low angle was the only one that could provide a quick enough tackle.

There was a snap, and Alex crashed to the ground after suffering an injury that needed no investigation. It was quite obviously a broken leg, and the sideline fell silent. The referee called a medical timeout, and the school medical staff were on the field immediately. They didn’t need to take a close look, though, to tell what the injury was. It was a moment that woke up the girl on the sideline, who wasn’t even wearing her helmet. She hadn’t been paying as much attention as she should have been, but this was something that caught her eye. “Anyone see Amber? Amber Vanderleigh?” Leap was asking, and quarterback coach Caden Forbes gestured for her to get her helmet on and go to the front of the sideline.

She picked up the green helmet, with her number three printed in grey numbering on the side, and pulled it on as she stood up, adjusting the strap and making her way inside the huddle. “Shouldn’t have needed to put your helmet on, Vanderleigh,” Leap told her sternly, his face miffed from the whole situation. “You’re our most experienced backup, so you’re in at quarterback. I know everyone is going to be happy to see you because you have a big last name, but please don’t throw this game away. Just make the smartest play and make sure we don’t lose this position. Understood?”

“I don’t want to go out there to not lose, I want to go out there to win. I want a play where I can go for the end zone. Give me something towards the corners and I’ll drop the ball right in front of our receiver. I promise.”

“We’ll see about that if we can’t run it in.”

After the injury and first down, they had three straight run plays. Two in the middle with Hasson, and one around the edge with Cameron Darrow. That left that at fourth and goal, with about three yards to go. Amber looked to the sideline for the call, and then back to her wristband that had the play sheet. She stepped back five steps, and began the cadence, her hands shaking. “Set! Smoke, smoke, smoke! Go!” the barked, and she took one step back and looked to her right to draw the defense that way before looking to where Mason Profit was isolated on the other side. But she completely missed the threat from the strong side linebacker, who had bulldozed Lewis Holmes on the right side and was now coming for her.

She absolutely rifled the ball towards the corner before she could get hit, but Profit couldn’t turn around in time to get control of the ball. His one handed catch attempt failed, and it was a turnover on downs after having a first and goal chance from the six yard line. That wasn’t the way that she wanted to start her career as a starter. She looked to the sideline, where Leap was glaring at her because of how much heat she’d put on the ball when the situation didn’t call for it. She then looked back to her teammates, who all looked frustrated that their leader was down and that his replacement wasn’t as good. Amber sighed inwardly.

This was one of those situations in life where her last name was doing nothing for her.

Fall and Rise: Chapter One
Cold Hill University, Ranoria
Angelo Gordon

"Get off the damn field Fawkes!" Chris Dale, head coach of the Buffalo, roared at his sidelined, former starting quarterback Karl Fawkes, "What are you mumbling about over there on the damn sideline? Let me guess, the same bullshit as ever! How Davis isn't as athletic as you, or as talented! He had more wins, and touchdowns, in his first damn season than you did in your career! Go home, if you want your job, take it the right way, don't bitch about your self-pity to your teammates!"

Their coach's commanding, stinging words elicited naught from a grimace from once-promising prospect Karl Fawkes, who in his three years as a starter had heavily relied on his athleticism to run the offense, managing ten wins in that span and twenty four total touchdowns, eighteen of those on the ground, while turning the ball over thirty times.

But as he stalked down the sideline, the criticism was biting into the heart of many other players, many older players having had their jobs taken by a stellar, historically talented recruiting class. Many seniors had hoped that a season of international competition would give them a shot to start one more time and get a chance at making the RFL. Instead, it appeared that these true freshmen still had them by the throat.

Dale turned to his current starting Q with a scowl, "And just what in the hell do you think that you're doing!? Get back to work! Run the damn play!"

Davis, without a word, nodded and gave the play call to his huddle, taking the snap and throwing an absolute dime soon after, much as he had all year, in an unbelievable year which had seen him throw for thirty touchdown passes.

Gordon, however, wasn't paying much attention to the play, the rip move that would have allowed him to put this quiet freshman quarterback on the ground almost automatic. He hated it as much as the others. Sure, every now and then, a talented freshman took someone's job, but this? This was unheard of. Thorn Davis was undeniably a better quarterback than the miserable Fawkes, and Deangelo, Angelo's younger brother, was a monster on the defensive line, one of two redshirt freshman on the team, but the others? They seemed like shoe ins, as if Dale, whom had taken over three years ago, had decided that he needed to completely rebuild the roster and stripped seniors of their starting roles.

And the worst part was, they were a cocky bunch, for the most part, many of them refusing to acknowledge the existence of guys whom had been talented, incumbent starters.

And the Gordon brothers, a couple of the only remnants of the old guard, hated it. They could have won the championship game against Richardson had many of these players not stepped out of line, ignored their assignments, panicked, at least that's how they saw it.

And as practice ended, that rift between the old and the new grew ever deeper.

Whether it could be mended...well, time could only tell.

(W.I.P)

Fall and Rise: Chapter 2

No one had ever expected this, to be sure.

Cold Hill's offense, over this past season, had never been absolutely shut down in the way that it had been today. Six points from what had been, in the mind of most of the guys on the team, one of the better offenses on paper coming into the season. But whether or not they liked it, Their unit had been held to a measly fifty yards on the day. And while the defense had done well initially, the longer the game wore on, the worse it became.

In the fourth quarter, down 27-3, Angelo Gordon's frustrations were mounting, bringing down running back Rimaeion Celeaniel, who'd been running down their throats all game, for a loss. Even he had to admit that he was exhausted by now though. His high-motor style of play couldn't be faulted by any stretch, but to watch the rest of the defense, as they became tired, simply ignore the coach's playcalls was becoming more and more frustrating.

After this last play, seeing freshman linebacker Jakeem Butler, who'd unseated their incumbent starter, and second defensive captain, with sheer athleticism, standing on the opposite side of the field, knowing full well that his job had been to fill the gap inside of Angelo, the pass-rush specialist snapped.

"What in the Hell are you doing Butler!?" The freshman, exhausted, had no time to react before Angelo's hand closed around his facemask, pulling the now-helpless middle backer closer to him. "What!? Scared!? You should be! You have a job to do, I don't care if we're up fifty to nothing, or down twenty seven to three!" By now, their coach was shouting from the sideline, and the other players on Cold Hill's defense were shocked, unsure of what to do, before Angelo simply tossed the backer aside. "Get off the damn field. You disgust me."

It was only then that he felt the referee's hands on his shoulder pads, requesting that he calm down, and Gordon shook him off with a growl before lining up for one more play, subsequently screaming past an offensive line that had held him without a sack until that meaningless point, and took the ball right of the quarterback's hands, setting up their only field goal of the day.

"Gordon, look, I get it, it's frustrating that these guys just abandon their assignments. It pisses me off as much as it does y-"

"Evidently not." Chris Dale went silent as Angelo continued, "Sir, with all due respect, that's a load of shit. If you were as frustrated as I am with them not doing their job, you would have put in the guys who will do their job, the older, wiser players, even if they are less talented, they're better football players. They've put in the work."

He saw Dale's mouth open once again to say something, but all Gordon could do was scowl, storming out of the coach's office with nothing more to say, the locker room empty by now after their extended meeting. It didn't make sense to him, that this ridiculous number of true freshman were starting, guys who didn't really understand how important this college game was to some of these older players, and many of whom were riding on pure talent, often slacking in the weight room and the like.

It was frustrating, to say the least. But he wasn't one to take it out on others, not normally, anyways. And so, he did what he usually did after a loss: Threw a pair of plates on each side of the barbell and got to work.

Thorn Davis, meanwhile, was watching the game film, trying to figure out just how he had managed to throw three interceptions in one outing, the scouting report, both the one he'd made himself, and the coach's, in front of him.

The tape was sickening, that was for sure. Throughout the game, he had looked out of sync against a Mar Sara Tech defense that he thought he'd analyzed to the very bone, but he'd been wrong. They had dominated in this performance, allowing for a total fifty one offensive yards by Cold Hill. But once he got to his first interception, in which he'd targeted fellow true freshman, 6'5" monster Jarrett Hauptmann, he first noticed it. He rembered the play call perfectly, and Hauptmann had been supposed to run a three yard slant, not the 'fly route' he'd decided to task himself with.

That in turn, had led Davis to the pick. He had done everything perfectly, looked off the safety by staring down junior Carl Amerson on the post route, turning and throwing to right where his receiver should have been.

All I did wrong was trust my guy.

It had been hard for him to see during the game, but now, as he had seen it once, he began to remember the playcalls for each snap, and on each, saw at least one or two guys not even trying to complete their assignments, almost always true freshman. It was almost as if they were taking this as a rec league.

What the hell is going on with this team?

Fan of football, the Murican kind. But soccer is cool too! Just not really my thing. C(:^D/-<
I go by Ran. Unless, of course, you want to type out Ranoria. That's your decision.

Paulo Rough Up Zequoia State 24-3

Pre-match expectations of the Zequoia State quarterback tearing the University of Paulo apart failed to materialise in the game yesterday. The Cubs' defence brought him down a peg - and showed it might be strong enough to carry the team while the offence finds it footing.

Coleman Linwood threw three touchdown passes in his first game for Paulo as they shut down Zequoia State 24-3 yesterday. Rocky Reynell caught two of those touchdown tosses for the Cubs, who held the Neo Diamonds to just 59 yards rushing on 30 tries and picked off the quarterback twice.

'You're not going to slow him down unless you play really good team defence' Paulo coach Aran Atwood said of the highly touted quarterback, who was 23 of 40 passing for 174 yards. 'There were some bumps in the road, but that traces back to younger, more inexperienced players. The guys played through it.'

Linwood's first Paulo touchdown throw, which went to Reynell on fourth-and-two put the Cubs ahead 7-3. Linwood connected with Reynell for a 27 yard score following a bizarre muffed punt by Zequoia and he hit Noel Gilbert from 45 yards out to give them a 21-3 edge midway through the third quarter.

The Neo Diamonds' tepid rushing attack left their quarterback without much space to work with. But he also threw an interception deep in Paulo territory with 11:32 left, and he threw another one right to lineman Hiram Sempers after being blitzed with 4:36 to go. The quarterback completed just one pass longer than 14 yards. 'We couldn't get a running game established' Zequoia State coach said. 'We tried. We knew their front seven would be very formidable, as they were.' Gavin Li rushed for 116 yards for the Cubs. Linwood was 8 of 15 for 125 yards.
