The Free Republics formally invites the nations of the multiverse to join the long-awaited 3rd edition of the World Softball Classic, to be held in our capital city of Republica. This event will be scorinated with a new version of Baseinator that will support changing the number of innings in a regulation game (as softball games have 7 innings, not 9) and a constants file that will produce appropriate scores for softball (based on real data from the most recent NCAA season) with appropriate levels of rand(). Although Baseinator can support the RL international rule that places runners on base at the start of each extra inning, I will not be using that rule. To signup, just respond to this thread stating that you sign up. We request that all puppet signups (additional signups by an OOC user who has already signed up a nation for this tournament) be declared and confirmed by the user's main nation. Signups are tentatively scheduled to close on Friday July 7th at some time after the time of this post but signups may be extended depending upon where the numbers are at that time.

I will use an x groups of y format with x and y to be determined by the final number of signups. The group stage will utilize a round-robin format where teams will play a series of 4 games against each opponent in their group, with each team batting last in 2 of the 4 games. Each team will play one such series (or have a bye) on each scorination day. Teams will advance to the playoffs, which will utilize a best-of-5 series format, with 2 games being scorinated per day.

As the last international softball tournament on NS was held 6 RL years ago, no rankings of any sort will be used. However, I will utilize a roster bonus and an RP bonus which will be based on quality over quantity, fair to all styles, etc.
