Youngster Andy Castle has had tremendous success playing for hometown side Rangers FC, but has yet to play for King & Country

Its the news you dread to learn when so much is riding on the hopes of our nation. It has been confirmed that after yesterdays collision during training, neither Scottopian main goalkeeper Andrew Rimandos or striker Nick Hernandez will be available for today's crucial Round of 16 game against Ord Caprica. After it was released yesterday to the media of the hard knock that took both out from the drills in MacKenzie City prior to todays match, questions have been brewing of the outcome this will have upon the roster Douglas McCann will give out for todays match. However, we shall no longer wonder as it has now been issued, just prior to the match to take place.

Going in goal will be Rangers FC's homegrown player Andy Castle, who has worn the 1 jersey for his club for 2 years but has yet to start in a game representing his country. Today is his chance, unfortunately it comes with a massive amount of pressure to advance to the QuarterFinals. The Bluebirds have gone and changed their formation to better protect the youngster with a more defensive 4-3-3 as opposed to the traditional balanced 3-4-3 the squad usually employs.

The manager has brought Ian Jonstone & Craig White into the defense for the first time in the AstyCup campaign, pulling McEdison from the right defensive wing position due to concerns over a pulled hamstring the New Greenock FC captain picked up during the teams 5-1 win over Arimathea.

Van Drimlinn has also been taken off the starting line up to accomindate the new formation, leaving just Santos, Ferguson & McCulloch in the center of the pitch. Kyle Santos will find himself right at home in the Round of 16 fixture as he plays for MacKenzie City. However, replacing the injured Hernandez is Clint Kingsbury, an odd choice at first when the team seems to have more capiable players ready to play up front. But, Kingsbury plays for MacKenzie City where he scored 12 goals this previous season in the Premiership. The MacKenzie Dome, where the teams find themselves play today, is the highest elevated stadium in the entire Royal CommonWealth were tenants MacKenzie City & MacKenzie Whitecaps take advantage of their home grounds altitude.

Baxters, coming off a great hatrick scoring game during the match against Arimathea has been left on the field along with his Scottopia City teammate Peterson on the right wing. It is hoped these changes in line up, formation & venue will beniefiet the Scottopian Isles. Theirs no more games for us if we happen to lose.

URQUHART, Scottopian Isles(BCNN) -- The Blackhelm Confederate national team failed to get an edge over Mesoland, finishing in a 2-2 tie after an epic match.

The constant back and forth of the game was enough to keep fans on the edge of their seats for the entirety of the game, but unfortunately for fans on both sides of the field neither team was able to get any advantage over the other. One score was quickly matched by the next, and the game finally ended in a tie. Despite that, however, the Blackhelm Confederate team moved into first place in their group, a position that they hope to maintain going into the next match.

"Mesoland put up a hell of a game, those boys certainly came to play, that's for sure" forward Liberius Goldsmith told BCNN. "Nikolia's gonna be tough, they are a tough team, but I think we can do it."

Sports fans around the region now need to wait for the next results to come out, but one thing is for sure; televisions all over Astyria are firmly fixed on Scottopia this month, and the region watches with baited breath, everyone hoping that their team comes out ahead in the cutthroat competition for regional glory.

Bluebirds Soar Into QuarterFinals


Scottopian players celebrate after a 83rd minute goal in the 'Round of 16' victory over Ord Caprica

The Scottopian Isles National Team put on a fine and strong performance against the United States last night. The solid performance at the MacKenzie Dome saw 2 goal in the first half. Quick teamwork by Baxters & Peterson, saw the duo from Scottopia City out pace the Caprican defense and score on a out manned goalkeeper to put the boys in blue 1-0 up, but it was followed just 15 minutes later by the United States response to even out the score for the half.

Following a daring display of attacks from the visitors, the Scottopian Isles defense did well to absorb the blows before finding their middle ground open to press forward with a counter attack in the 67th minute to place the hosts 2-1 up with just over 20 minutes left in the game. The assault from the Caprican offense continued unrelentingly, forcing Scottopian keeper Rimandos to come off his line on a number of occasions to clear the ball from danger. The bluebirds however placed the final nail in the coffin with just 7 minutes remaining when Baxters struck the crossbar, beating the keeper and putting the Scottopians 3-1 up in a comfortable lead until the final whistle.

After the game, it was revealed that Kobolis had edged out Bankampar with a skim score line of 1-0. They will face the home squad at the Estadio de San Francisco in Milpitas Bay for the AstyCup17 QuarterFinals.

Finals once again!

• Magpies conquer Dragons yet again
• 3-1 victory repeat of last year's Group B
• Cadenza to face Riysa in final

There wasn't a dry eye in Paradise City this afternoon, as the pride of the Blackhelm Confederacy marched back into their dressing rooms after being defeated by Cadenza in yet another Astyrian Cup. A gripping semi-final saw Saleb Urientai's brilliantly-managed Magpies astound Astyria as they achieved the same victory that had guaranteed them a place in last year's quarterfinals. The Confederate team had put up a bold fight, making it to the semifinals on one draw and four wins, one against Trellin.

This makes two years in a row that Cadenza has advanced, undefeated, to the Astyrian Cup finals. Last year, the team captained by Mirix Qaliris faced off against host nation Zitru in a spectacular match which was only resolved in the host's favour by penalties. Getting there pitted the Magpies against also-undefeated Riysa's Desert Eagles, who were the favourites to win in a semi-final they lost in extra time, and then city-state Marqueville* where Cadenza won 4-2. This time, Riysa has made it all the way to the final, after crushing hosts Scottopia 4-2.

The Riysian team is, as last year, the stong favourite to win. Cadenza's may be the best team in the Trellinese Empire, but both Trellin and Arimathea were eliminated in group stages. Many say that it's wishful thinking for Urientai's team to think they can top last year's performance. Urientai disagrees.

"It's the same lineup as last year. Plenty of people called it a 'Dream Team' then, and we came within reach of beating Zitru, who're one of Astyria's top-ranked teams. We're not about to give up now just because some pundits in Scottopia are bitter about the sixteen-hundreds. I'm proud of these boys, and I have every faith in their skills, their training and their ability to succeed. That's what we're going to do on Saturday - we're going to succeed."

Confident words from Cadenza's most beloved manager, but then maybe he has a right to be.
