Löptsegl National Football Team

The Free Territory of Löptsegl, an island nation situated in the North Atlantic, is not an ideal location for playing football; mainly due to the cold temperatures during the Autumn and Winter seasons. Football is thus not a very developed sport in Löptsegl, only recently having developed beyond the various recreational leagues in the southern islands. Bandy and Ice Hockey are far more popular in Löptsegl proper, as well as on the island of Austland. However, football is rapidly spreading further North through the archipelago as a summer sport. Many in the nation, a collection of anarchist communes and towns, approached the idea of a national team with skepticism. First of all, not many people played it, and it would be hard to organize along the lines of anarchism and democracy. Eventually they decided on a democratic process to select the best football players. Each township that decided to participate would hold tryouts and vote on who they thought was best. This would keep going with tryout cycles until the best players were picked by the elected manager and assistant manager. Now in 2017, Löptsegl has decided to participate in the 78th World Cup, after doing better than expected in the Baptism of Fire.

The Freisan Farf Freitball Francitian hereby presents the Farf roster for the 78th Edition of the World Cup
Nation Name: The Oulandish Lands of Farfadillis
Demonym: Farf (plural Farves)
Team Nickname: la Vherderoja
Honours: AOCAF Cup 43 and 48 Winners

Kits
Provided by Mons
ImageImage

Manager
Name: Tíbürçìó Çötàvíê
Age: 53
First Cycle: 75
Record: The FFFF found working it out to be too much of a hassle
Win Percentage: See above
Description: The mastermind behind Mâ Âlâmëómë's overlordship of the Farf league. Tíbürçìó's an eccentric man, even by Farf standards. He may seem like a bit of a tool sometimes, but some others he looks like the sharpest one in the shed. During his time at the Greens, he did away with defense altogether at times, Solomon Etezadi bailing him out on more than one occasion. He has no Etezadis now, though. What he does have, however, is many players that he has already managed, as the Greens' youth academy is the best in the nation. He's also much more in touch with the players than Pekarik ever was, as he's culturally much more aligned with them, and tactically too. Current internal conflicts may make this last sentence less truthful than in past competitions.

Assistant Manager
Name: Ichi Tuzzio
Age: 45
First Cycle: 75
Description: One of the finest footballers Farfadillis has ever produced, Ichi's obviously a face any Farf would recognize. A few years and a couple of bullets after his last match with the national team, he's back as assistant manager, hoping to one day become a renowned manager. Probably. He's never actually made a statement about his intentions, though he has mentioned in passing that he wants to be able to go back to walking without a cane some day.

Starters
#1 - GK
Name: Calogero André Metz Lille
Age: 32
Positions: GK
Team: Image Cassandra City Image
Description: Metz becoming the starting goalkeeper for the national team surprised nobody when it happened. He always had the talent. However, very few would’ve ever predicted he’d reach the heights he's reached at Cassandra City. How many goalkeepers can say they’ve been named best player in their leagues? He was vital for Cassandra City’s successful title run. His great reflexes and timing for getting out of his line stand out.

#4 - LB
Name: Drê Tâás Röènôùjýâ Ìrrýbâuzârâ
Age: 33
Positions: LB/LM/RB
Team: Image Brinemouth Image
Description: One of Farfadillis’ finest players, there was a point when many question he would reach the potential many imagined he had when he was young. However, he proved all the doubters wrong, by becoming an important part of Nepharim side Brinemouth’s starting eleven and, more importantly, one of Farfadillis’ key players. His defending can even be called fairly good nowadays, thanks to the experience that comes with about seventeen years of top flight football. He’s got the offensive skillset of an attacking midfielder - he could very well fill in there if it was necessary. As a result, he’s extremely dangerous when bombing down the flank, and adds an extra layer to the team’s already multi-layered offense. He's no longer what he used to be, physically-speaking, though. He'll most likely not be called up for World Cup 79 if the trend continues.

#2 - CB
Name: Süns Söh Sârâsâ
Age: 25
Positions: CB
Team: Image Âlâmëómë Image
Description: Süns is a surprisingly small (for a centreback) yet very fast player with fairly decent skill on the ball and impressive tactical awareness. Few players can read the game like him. Also, few players have as much top flight experience as him at his age. Despite his height, he's shown he can actually be a menace in the air anyway. He scored the winner against Audioslavia last World Cup in the round of sixteen.

#6 - RB
Name: Trejo Maes Carreño
Age: 29
Positions: LB/RB
Team: Image Avenida Leal Image
Description: Trejo was part of a couple of DBC squads, but he never really impressed. Some seasons later, he burst into the scene with Avenida Leal, becoming a dominant presence on the left flank, match after match. He's fast, he's versatile (so much so that he's usually played as a left-back despite being right-footed), he can bomb forward and he can kind of defend. His continuous improvement has made many people question how he could fly under the radar for so long. Nowadays at his peak, he may not be as flashy as some of the other players, but he's consistently very good.

#5 - CM [C]
Name: Ruy Alexander Monrazón Dianaslocas
Age: 30
Positions: DM/CM
Team: Image Avenida Leal Image
Description: A tough tackler with a warrior's spirit and a great understanding of the game. He's pretty good with the ball, even if it's not his defining quality. Add to that his tremendous endurance and you’ve got yourself one fine slightly-defensive midfielder. Despite his relative lack of muscle mass and definite lack of height, he’s got an imposing presence on the pitch by virtue of attitude alone. This has made him the natural choice for the captain’s armband.

#3 - LM
Name: Scheherazade Camila Meier Butragueño
Age: 29
Positions: LM/LW/RM/RW
Team: Image Sabrefell Moths Image
Description: The first Farf woman to get to the national team. The country still needs to fully adapt to that. Born in Puerto Farolero to a Nepharim father and a Farf mother, Scheherazade has proved she's Farf by being crazy enough to decline a call-up to the then-World Champions to play for Farfadillis. Two-footed, versatile, with a lot of pace and great crossing ability, it's not hard to see why Tíbürçìó thought she was worth breaking tradition.

#11 - RM
Name: Lázár Kovács Eleonóra Fulop
Age: 24
Positions: RM/RW
Team: Image Holdenberg Image
Description: Lázár Eleonóra’s eerily similar to Mâás Fôx. Plays on the right wing, transferred to a Euran club at a very young age, lots of potential. The reasons for the comparison are obvious. However, their playing styles differ slightly. Lázár’s relies a lot more on his pace and his endurance, constantly running up and down the pitch. He’s not as good as Mâás with the ball, but considerably better at everything physical. He has now finally broken into the starting eleven, and he will make the most of it, no doubt.

#8 - OM
Name: Ror Jevdjevic-Hadsic Obad
Age: 29
Positions: OM
Team: Image Crisisbless Image
Description: Back when both were in the DBC squads, Fôrté was the rising star, while Ror was lucky to get any minutes. Just a couple of years and a move to the Nepharim league later, Jevdjevic-Hadsic's was starting for the actual national team (Fôrté has always been better, though). He's an overall very complete offensive midfielder. He likes to drop deeper and help link up better, so he's not quite as deadly up front as his partner, but he's better at reading the game and dictating the tempo. He'll want to get over the heartbreak of losing this last Champions' Cup's final.

#10 - OM
Name: Fôrté Mâás Wínrôuge Çíânflöné
Age: 29
Positions: OM
Team: Image Âlâmëómë Image
Description: "The best Farf to have played the game". Some years ago, most people would've said that of Dandalleion or Kâí, with Fôrté getting a few mentions. Now, most would agree with the statement. Vicious and knotty dribbling, defense-splitting passing, a striker's sense of smell and, most importantly, ambidexterity have made him player far too much for defenders in the FFL and the international stage to handle. He has been by far and away the best player in the squad for a few years now, and it's no coincidence that the team has been doing better than ever during this time. He's in the form of his life.

#7 - ST
Name: Täjó Ôýâtúfâ Çíânflöné Rütü
Age: 28
Positions: TQ/ST
Team: Image Raynor City United Image
Description: Football sometimes runs in the family. That is the case of the Çíânflöné family. Just like his cousin Fôrté, Täjó is immensely talented at kicking balls. He's got acute tactical awareness and a consequent knack for exploiting defensive gaps with his speed, coupled with some sharp finishing skills. He’s one of only three Farf players to have won the Champions’ Cup. Named best player in the multiverse by some Bonesfolk, and though the accolade is certainly overstating his talent a bit, there's no doubt he's second only to his cousin in this squad.

#9 - ST
Name: Tjêtê Vüs Dü Síbírí Ráäx
Age: 23
Positions: OM/ST
Team: Image Dí Maozöxê Image
Description: Short and very skillful, as well as very fast, Tjêtê fits the mold of the typical Farf attacker. He’s very versatile, too. He can play as both an offensive midfielder and a striker. Even as a winger if the situation calls for it - he’s got the appropriate skillset, after all. Though Stiin Siorrha'Asione was originally better than him, he's now overtaken the lad because he's had some severe discipline fiascoes. Stiin hasn't even been called up, neither has Nofzaleiné cause he's been getting old, so Tjêtè's now a starter, apparently. If there's a "weak link" in this team, it's him, but he's still certainly good.

Substitutes

#12
Name: Lafayette Tifoxé Loiseau-Cousteau
Age: 27
Positions: GK
Team: Image Jungle Strike Image
Description: Originally touted as the new Erfaon Lisdiren, Lafayette might not actually ever achieve expectations, but he's still a very good goalkeeper nonetheless. He's still young for a goalkeeper, so he's still got time to displace Calogero. Lafayette is currently a starter for Vilitan big club Jungle Strike, well-known to all Farves, so he's definitely no slouch.

#23
Name: Íüé Tgô Sôsdêrê
Age: 21
Positions: GK
Team: Image Dí Maozöxê Image
Description: Íüé’s future is very bright. Aged just nineteen, he had already started a full season for Dí Maozöxê, a big Farf club. He’s very temperamental, but otherwise solid in everything for someone his age. If no wunderkid goalkeeper pops up in the next few years, you can rest assured Tgô will be defending the Farf goal someday.

#14
Name: Jülí Mâsârí t’Ôrté
Age: 28
Positions: LB
Team: Image Avenida Victoria Image
Description: Farfadillis is currently suffering a terrible shortage of quality left-backs. This has led to Jülí’s call-up despite him being displaced by a foreign non-international player at his boyhood club Dí Maozöxê. This prompted him to sign for Avenida Victoria, where he’s quietly been decent enough for a desperate call-up from Tíbürçìó. Don’t expect him to set the world alight.

#15
Name: Thjorgias Archere Pickton Exhaurré
Age: 32
Positions: CB/RB/DM
Team: Image La Nueva Avenida Image
Description: The Farf son of Apoxian Grant Pickton, one of the most influential players in the history of the Farf league. Also, yes, Grant was daft enough to name his son so extravagantly. But anything goes in Farfadillis as far as names are concerned, so he was not relentlessly bullied for it as a kid. His playing style is very much like his blood: he's not quite a down-to-earth Apoxian defender, but he's also not quite a reckless Farf "defender." He really flourished under the guidance of his father at La Nueva Avenida. However, Süns Söh has proved more reliable with Pickton aging pretty badly, so he’s been relegated to the bench.

#16
Name: Jallerrhé Charif Ljungman van Hell
Age: 29
Positions: RB
Team: Image Firewood City Image
Description: Ljungman's yet another offensively-talented Farf fullback/wingback/winger/whatever-you-want-to-call-it. He's quite good defensively for one, and he's also very fast. He's not very big or strong, but he makes up for it with a lot of tactical awareness. He's also very calm, though perhaps overly so. Don't expect him to get sent off due to an emotional outburst.

#19
Name: Joan Nonhagatte Röéréé
Age: 23
Positions: CM
Team: Image Dí Maozöxê Image
Description: Joan's father, Joan Fer Nonhagatte, is considered a legend by Dí Maozöxê fans. He was never good enough to make it to the national team, mainly because of having too much competition, but his son looks like he'll succeed where he failed. Joan is everything his father was but better. He's got his acute passing, only more acute, his elegant dribbling, only better, his tactical awareness, but more of it and he’s faster to boot. Don’t let his age fool you: if Ruy Monrazón wasn’t one of the best players in the team, Joan would be starting.

#17
Name: Rüx Çìró Albuquerque
Age: 27
Positions: LM/LW
Team: Image Urbizania Wanderers Image
Description: Jê's a winger with great pace and dribbling. He cuts in often, but he's great at just outpacing and crossing too. His workrate is commendable, and his defensive skillset not too shabby. He's cursed when it comes to penalties, though. His father was killed because of him missing one in a regional competition when he played for Dí Maozöxê's youth team (hence his move to Neuville Scythers now), and to add insult to injury he missed the decisive penalty against Semarland in the U18WC. And an important penalty in the AOCAF Cup we still managed to win. Probably needs psychiatric help at this point. And, no, he did not get it when he needed it most. Expect him to be one of the most unstable players on the pitch. He has, notoriously, recently moved to Astograth, where football's only now becoming professional again.

#20
Name: Lüí Wçêíl Wsíè
Age: 19
Positions: LM/LW/RM/RW
Team: Image Âlâmëómë Image
Description: How Minduruguatzel missed Wçêíl when making the DBC squad is a mystery, but the kid's been setting the youth league on fire for two years now. He's also broken into Mâ Âlâmëómë's first team. The last player to do that was Fôrté Wínrôuge. Extremely pacey and with a lot of flair, Wçêíl will get very far, that much is certain.

#13
Name: Somuele der Pros Sasé
Age: 25
Positions: CM/OM
Team: Image New Belfast Warriors Image
Description: Somuele left Farfadillis for a Semar club when he was young. There, he played well, but not spectacularly. After that, he left for Schottia, signing for Lammerton City, a team from the second tier there. He performed so well there, he pretty much single-handedly promoted them to the first tier, or so Tíbürçìó heard. This earned him a move to New Belfast Warriors, where he's performed well enough to get a call-up. He's talented in every aspect a midfielder needs, but he's noticeably better offensively.

#18
Name: Groaré Sasca Ladargaelle
Age: 23
Positions: OM
Team: Image Gorfalle Town Image
Description: A call-up to a Di Bradini Cup in which he got no playing time was Sasca’s entire claim to fame until last World Cup. Playing for Gorfalle Town, a club that lacks the talent clubs like Mâ Âlâmëómë and La Nueva Avenida sport in the same league, Groaré managed to impress pretty much everyone with his technique. He’s small and slow, but he’s reminiscent of Alex Terán. He sees passes others can’t see, and dribbles at moments others wouldn’t. He’s got more flair than anyone else in the country, and he’s young. That means that, in Tíbürçìó’s mind, the call-up’s obvious. He's only gotten better these last two years. Why he hasn't moved to a better club is a mystery, but he'll probably start for the national team when Jevdjevic-Hadsic begins declining.

#22
Name: Oskar Holst Juhl
Age: 17
Positions: ST
Team: Image Ausharmuj Marusi Image
Description: Aged seventeen, straight out of the DBC and into the World Cup. Oskar is very unlikely to feature much, if at all, obviously, but he's immensely talented. He's got it all: pace, dribbling skills, vision, positioning, clinical finishing, you name it. He's deadly in the box. He's not only a starter for Ausharmuj Marusi: he's also indisputably their best player.

#21
Name: Xíxì Êns Drâás
Age: 18
Positions: OM/ST
Team: Image Dí Maozöxê Image
Description: Another talented youngster who's gonna get precociously called up this World Cup. Xíxì is about as talented as Oskar, but in a completely different way. He's not as much a goalscorer as his partner. However, he's much better at passing and creating space. Still an extremely talented striker in his own right, he has the added bonus of being a talented offensive midfielder. He's already starting for Dí Maozöxê, one of the top Farf teams.

Association Football is not the most important sport in Lisander, but is still the most watched and more lucrative. Pro Rugby is growing, but Football is Professional since its begginings. Good or bad, the National Eleven manage to carry its giant fanbase. The idols of football are richer and more famous than Rugby ones. Lisander usually does not approach international football because of the Rule 11.a of the National Sports Confederation: "To represent the nation, one must represent a professional team inside the country. Players who leave the national football pyramid are automatically expelled from the national eleven."

So, Lisander football is based on confinment. The players come from the Tristarbank Premiership, where a offensive and beautiful game is encouraged. Style Modifier: +3

Lisander will play its home games in Vermillion Arena, the recently renamed stadium of the University of Salinas. The reconstruction of the former US Stadium, partly sponsored by Vermillion Investment Group, make the US Stadium the second largest in the nation, with 59,240 seats, and the largest in activity, since EON Arena is currently being remodeled.

Currently, any of current media vehicles decided to buy the television rights for WC78 Lisanderian games. If any of the local companies interest, RTL (Radio and Television Lisander) will be the only broadcaster.

So, I'm not with that time to WC, because Rugby and College Stuff, and Real Life, you know.

The Euran Football Association’s 78th World Cup Qualifying Squad

Manager: Steve Thompson (59, Eura)

All time Euran record appearance holder Steve Thompson, with 301 caps to his name and 75 goals, was made Euran manager amidst much fanfare ahead of the 20th Copa Rushmori and qualifying section for the 71st World Cup. By beating Tom Benedict, several other former Eura internationals and international candidates to the post, Steve had set himself up with the tough task of helping Eura recover from three consecutive poor performances at World Cup finals. Eura seemed to gain more defensive stability and ruthlessness under Louis Watson in his short spell as Thompson's predecessor, but while they dispatched of the minnows easily they underperformed badly against the higher seeds, and then fell apart in the group stage. Only a deserved draw with Valanora salvaged any pride as the respected but not highly rated Watson bowed out of international management. However Thompson turned things around with a surprisingly good performance at the 20th Copa Rushmori, though once again they came up just short of finally winning it - Eura continues to be perhaps the biggest underachiever in the tournament. His Eura side made it to the final before falling to an unlucky defeat in extra time against Sargossa by the score of 2-1, despite a headed goal from Craig Gilbert.

Many questioned whether or not this form would translate into the World Cup, and Thompson's side proved the doubters wrong. Their initial qualifying charge included a number of good wins including victories over Semarland and Mangolana, interrupted only by a frustrating draw in neighbouring Szavoda. However a loss away to the top seeds Royal Kingdom of Quebec, followed by draws against Semarland and Sandwich Territories, temporarily derailed Eura's qualification hopes. Thankfully Thompson turned it around, and powered on by veteran Skorji Oslograd's goals, they qualified. At the World Cup itself Eura finally broke their chain of group stage embarrassments, beating co-hosts Yttribia and the ever potent Farfadillis; their last game was an ignominious defeat to Star United States but they made it into the next round anyway. In the Round of 16 Eura encountered their qualifying rivals Royal Kingdom of Quebec and proved to be their bane once again, beating them 2-1, before beating Turori in an absolute thriller on penalties. However Eura's surprise advancement into the later stages was ended in the semi-finals by Rushmori rivals Pasarga, the goals of Brigham's Dominik Mauer sinking the Euran's despite Skorji Oslograd's 100th international goal. Eura's performance in the 21st Copa Rushmori was less admirable as they stumbled through the group stage before an undeserved quarter final exit to Taeshan.

The next cycle was met by more outstanding football and more heartbreak while Brigham were having that season at home. Eura blitzed their way to their third World Cup final, living up to the hype that followed the last cycle. They were particularly potent in having the most dangerous goalscoring record of any team, especially given Ashtree's age and Campbell's rawness being the only options up front, and went on a remarkable run of form that culminated in a famous 5-0 semi-final drubbing of Vilita. However Eura's newest nemesis Pasarga stood in the way again and defeated them at the final hurdle in a tight contest, and then knocked Eura out of the Copa Rushmori in the later stages on penalties after Eura had started impressively, and had won a 5-3 thriller against rivals Sameba. After these close misses, Eura were wondering what they have to do to win an international tournament again. Despite this it had been a good time for Eura, at 2nd in the world - their highest ranking - and it is hard to argue that, on paper at least, only Pasarga had claim to be better. However there remained some lurking doubts; Eura's previous two finals produced the same issues of key players about to pass their peak and major changes to the starting lineup, and were followed by a quarter final exit and then several years of mediocrity.

Finally, at the 73rd World Cup, all doubts were erased as Thompson cemented himself as a legend as both a player and coach for Eura by winning the World Cup, making Eura the first country from Rushmore to do it twice. An exceptional squad with an exceptional manager swept away a qualifying group of intermediate difficulty with a 100% record, a first for the Euran national team, before kicking off the World Cup with a memorable 7-3 thrashing of Free Republics. Confident victories against Ceni, Cosumar and Apox followed before a rather overconfident Farfadillis who had just shocked Osarius 5-1, were swept away 6-1 by Kris Campbell and company. After Eura's normal time win streak was ended by a draw against underdogs San Jose Guayabal, which ended with Eura winning a drawn out penalty shootout for the first time in a while, they were set up for a tantalising final clash with Pasarga. Eura, despite their fantastic record, were considered slight underdogs against Pasarga due to the perceived mental barrier Eura had developed against the side from northern Rushmore. Thompson and his team were finally rewarded though for their efforts with a tight but deserved victory over the Pasargan's, after a spectacular campaign including particularly exceptional performances from the likes of Craig Sinclair, Kris Campbell, Craig Gilbert and John Spartan. They followed this up by finally winning the Copa Rushmori, beating Taeshan in New Gelderland.

Unfortunately, Eura failed to defend either of these titles. They were as brilliant as usual on their way to the World Cup but their now ageing defence looked frail, and was exposed against Pasarga in that sensational 6-5 win, as well as in several high scoring victories and draws in qualifying. It all came apart against Nephara, who they had beaten 4-3 in the group stage, by the same margin but in reverse. Then at the Copa, Eura were advancing comfortably on home turf before an inexplicable defeat by the same margin to Polaskaan, which many blamed on an incorrect decision to send off Frank Ainsworth, and two of the visitors goals being from offside positions. It was an anti-climactic and extremely disappointing end to that tournament for Eura and has led to big changes in the Euran squad. It is a Euran team that, on the bright side, is now ranked number one in the international rankings for the first time ever. The challenge for Steve Thompson now is to replace the ageing generation that has taken Eura to heights it has never reached before, with only Kris Campbell, Joel Sutton and Frank Ainsworth remaining young from that group - Waller, Chuchilli and Rogers has retired, while Spartan, Watson, Gilbert, Blackthorn and even Sinclair cannot be around forever. Thankfully Eura have some excellent young stars.

Unfortunately, a poor performance struck at the 75th tournament, ending the good run - out at the group stage in embarrasing fashion. Or normally it would be. But the terrible crime committed against Eura by Sameba overwhelmed any thoughts of how we are doing in the football, and led to the Euran FA rearranging the scheduling so that Season 30 would start earlier, continuing the one season per World Cup schedule when they had hoped to abandon it. Oakstone have moved stadium due to pressures on their city. This has left the Euran team, who almost sleepwalked through the Copa straight after the World Cup, in a state of disarray for a short time. High profile retirements such as those of Gareth Blackthorn, Ben Prince, Joe Caffin, Gavin Madison and Mark Rogers struck the team. Craig Gilbert was apparently persuaded to continue only due to an emotional intervention by Steve Thompson. The show had to go on despite difficult times on and off the pitch. Finally, Eura were given some relief by an unexpected triumph at Copa Rushmori 27, where the old guard came in to help the younger generation escape a patchy group stage performance to reach the final. John Spartan scored a tap in to beat Valladares to the title, his third goal in three winning major international finals for Eura. Craig Gilbert finally retired off the back of this, and though Craig Sinclair and John Spartan will continue into this World Cup, it has become clear that they are both getting very close to the ends of their respective careers.

Assistant Manager: Matt Boyce (59, Eura)

Boyce was a surprise appointment as Thompson’s assistant, having been out of coaching roles for a couple of years. However he has plenty of experience at various clubs and the national team before that and his appointment has been responded to positively. He has played a pivotal role in maintaining Eura’s improvements at the back, while his bubbly personality and reputation as a leader make him a valuable asset in the dressing room. He has been a key ingredient in Thompson's success, and has proven a lot less of a competitor, and more like an assistant, than Dimitri Campbell was to Ben Randall.

Manager Frantzko Intxausti 57

Audioslavia is, both ICly and OOCly, rather ancient. The country was founded on December 17th 2002, a period regarded as 'pre-history' by many. The nation originally CTE'd in 2006, was revived briefly in 2007 and 2009, and enjoyed a proper resurgence at the start of 2012, locating itself in Atlantian Oceania indefinitely after IC centuries of rivalries with various nations in the region.

The Audioslavia national side participated in World Cups 4 to 29, made an abortive comeback in World Cup 37, and rejoined the world of international football properly back in World Cup 59. The ancient Audioslavia side qualified for all but one of the World Cups it entered (a young Audioslavia failed during the WC5 qualifying playoffs) and generally maintained a place in top twenty of the world rankings, peaking at #1 during the qualifying phases of World Cups 20 and 21.

Paradoxically, the national team has seen more success in its modern form - a period where quick success is arguably more difficult to achieve than in the early days. Whereas those early years yielded only the inaugural U21 World Cup and a string of losing finals in the World Cup proper, the modern team won the Baptism of Fire tournament before WC59 and triumphed in the thirty-fifth, thirty-eighth and thirty-ninth installments of the AOCAF Cup. The side have also reached the final of the AOCAF cup on four other occasions and have reached as far as the semi-finals of the Cup of Harmony.

Modern Audioslavia finally won the World Cup itself in cycle 63, a victory that required a huge amount of luck and some very po-faced, negative football. Audioslavia managed to win the tournament despite going into the qualifiers with a ranking of #53 in the world. Four years later, in World Cup 64, the national side proved that this win, as fortunate as it was, was no flash in the pan when they again took home the World Cup trophy, completing the first ever 'double-double' of winning back-to-back AOCAF and World Cup championships. After forty-three cycles, Audioslavia returned to the rank of #1 in the world.

That era, from cycles 59 to 64, yielded two World Cups, three regional championships and the Baptism of Fire tournament. Since then, however, Audioslavia seem to have regressed into their old ways. The side have staunchly remained a top 10 team for over 13 cycles now and are cemented as an absolute powerhouse of world football, but are without further championships to show for their endeavours. Furthermore, World Cups 67, 69 and 76 saw the team lose the final match to Polar Islandstates, Holy Empire and Northern Sunrise Islands respectively, bringing their win/loss ratio in World Cup final matches to a lop-sided 2-7 record. As if that weren't embarassing enough, Audioslavia have been knocked out in the quarter final stage to Krytenia in each of the last three AOCAF Championships.
Audioslavian footballers tend to be a little on the small side, with few players standing over six feet (1.83m) tall. The average Audioslavian footballer stands at around about 5'8 (1.72m) or thereabouts, though most goalkeepers and central defenders are at least 5'11, and tall, strong strikers have become increasingly common in the Audioslavian game.

Audioslavian footballers are renowned for their high fitness levels and stamina, though a comparatively lithely framed squad do occasionally have problems when facing large, physical teams. Quick, one-touch passing is the key to Audioslavia's midfield prowess, which likes to play at a high tempo, and the side often take advantage of some fleet-footed wingers and full-backs to play through-balls beyond the opposition's defensive line after having created the space with some quick interchanges. Audioslavian attacking football was built on the idea that two crisp, quick passes around the opponent's penalty area will lead to a goalscoring opportunity, and as such the team's forward line throughout history has been littered with quick-thinking play-makers and dead-eye finishers.

Recent Audioslavian sides haven't been without their weaknesses. Since the retirement of the players that led the nation to glory in cycles 63 and 64 the teams have tended to lack true leadership figures on the pitch. Our nation's footballers tend to be stubborn with regards to letting peers tell them what to do. Audioslavian teams sometimes tend towards disorder and in-fighting when truly on the back-foot - say, when one or two goals behind in a game - and are easily disheartened when things start to go wrong. On the pitch, the side's lack of physical strength means defending against corners is often a problem, despite a well-drilled defensive line. Marauding full-backs can be susceptible to counter-attacks via the wings, and very few centre backs in Audioslavia are particularly quick.

Kontrapuntzeka has long been the name of Audioslavia's style of play, taken from the Auskadian word for 'counterpunch'. Audioslavia's ability to hold teams at bay for long periods before hurting them via quick counter-attacks and short bursts of activity helped the side to its two World Cup victories. As the years have gone by, Audioslavia have had to veer away from the style as opponents start to adapt and change. The system that won two World Cups in a row doesn't quite hold against modern football teams. The national team have never really adapted a new style, however

Audioslavia's squad has traditionally consisted of a multitude of Audioslavians plying their trade abroad, including a number of nationalised foreign-born players. The progression of the LigAnaia, however, and the success of the Audioslavian National League afterwards, has seen an larger proportion of domestic-based players make the national team squad. AC Izotz Zubia and 1830 Cathair are the traditional heavyweights of Audioslavian football and have, in the past, provided the national team with an abundance of national team players, but the resurgence of Moreazerua and Itzalovalle as footballing powers, and the arrival of previously unheralded Eletti Valligiani at Audioslavian football's top table, has given the national squad a very domestic feel in recent years.
A mainstay at centre-half for a decade, Frantzko Intxausti knows his way around the Audioslavian national team. A successful manager at AC Izotz Zubia after ending his playing days there, Intxausti was nevertheless criticised heavily during his reign at Zozi despite winning the Champions Cup, Audioslavian national league and LigAnaia in his tenure. Fans believed he hadn't made the best of the assets available to him, and succumbed the side to one or two very ordinary upper-mid-table performances despite having arguably the strongest squad in the league.

Intxausti is a cautious manager, and his games so far have relied upon a strong defence forming the basis for attacks and counters, although currently without the true manpower to accomplish such a feat, with a defence that is either on the wrong side of thirty or with less than a handful of caps to their names.

Roleplaying permissions: We frown on god-modding if there isn't a sense of humour behind it. Everything else is fine. If you'd like to injure a few players or dish out red cards for a particularly harsh game, go right ahead, go hog wild. Want to injure the entire team in a bus-crash? Fine, but make it good, or suffer the humiliation of having your limbs scattered hither and thither via a blast from my mighty ignore-cannon.

One general rule about the Audioslavian national team is that we are very, very often the 'fall guy'. We've lost so many big matches - WC finals, AOCAF finals, you name it - that we've come to thrive on being the big baddie who gets their comeuppance at the end. If your team has a particular strength or tactic that they like to use, by all means use it against us and RP that it worked tremendously. The scorinator may well show us to have won, but don't let us get away with it without having had a jolly good scare first, and make sure to *really* rub it in our faces if you beat us. Anything that makes it fun to RP. We wouldn't have it any other way.

Eastfield Lodge Roster for World Cup 78

Demonym: Eastfielder

Eastfield Lodge is a pretty glorious nation, somewhat situated in Northern Rushmore - in reality, there's a very small island (acting as a transport hub) which hosts a portal linking the NSverse to a small bubble universe, wherein the rest of the Imperial Commonwealth is located (barring a couple of nations, but they’re linked up in other ways). The IC part describes the fact that there are several empires contained within one superstructure – divisions which are somewhat reflected in the convoluted league structure.

Those of you who know this nation well however will wonder what has happened to the Whoniverse (the universe of Doctor Who, the TV programme). Don’t worry, I will (hopefully) RP what went on. To those who don’t know, this nation used be in the NSverse, but due to the acts of a lone madman from The Holy Empire (mad, or pitiful, the legends are a bit shaky), Eastfield Lodge almost vanished from existence, leaving behind a small island (now in Rushmore), attached to a portal connecting here to the Whoniverse. Things happened, the portal became unstable, and we had to form a bubble universe, and as a result, the resulting temporal shockwave both wiped out all electronic records, and did some weird stuff to people’s ages (hence why some names in the team may seem recognisable).

Anyways, because of the initial portal, whilst humans are the overwhelming majority of the populace here, don't be surprised to find several other races and much advanced technology here. Some more historical information can be found here, in lieu of a factbook (NB: a lot of the information there is inaccurate though, TG me for clarification).

Back to the nation itself, Eastfield Lodge is probably the best place to live in the entirety of Rushmore, according to the WA at any rate. Amongst the accolades heaped upon are: Most Compassionate Citizens, Most Beautiful Environments, Happiest Citizens, Most Dedicated Public Healthcare, Healthiest Citizens, Least Corrupt Government, Longest Average Lifespan, Lowest Crime Rates, Nicest Citizens, Largest Public Transportation Department, Safest, Smartest Citizens, Most Popular Tourist Destinations, Best Weather and Largest Welfare Programs. Also of note is the fact that, in a region containing Saintland, Eastfield Lodge is the Most Devout nation, with Islam being the national religion, and that we have the Highest Police Ratios, so do not be alarmed by the sheer number of police officers.

Lodger City Memorial Stadium
Location: New Lodger City
Capacity: 150,000
Description: The home of Eastfielder football, the stadium was built on the ruins of the old capital of Eastfield Lodge, Lodger City, which was flattened in a double disaster (severe floods from dams bursting and an explosion from an unknown source, killing much of the population of the city and rendering the city useless. Administrative functions were transferred over to Lodgertia, the city began to be rebuilt, and it was decided that this stadium would be one of the monuments erected in place. The inside walls contains inscriptions of the names of all the dead – just under 9 million. The stadium used to play host to the two classic giants of EL football – RGS Athletic and VLC FC - until both had their new stadiums finished; it is now only used for internationals and cup matches.

Parliament Stadium
Location: Lodgertia
Capacity: 80,000
Description: Formerly the second largest stadium in Eastfield Lodge (until King Iqbal II and Vorgan Park were completed), behind the Memorial Stadium in New Lodger City, it was built in the centre of Lodgertia, the capital of Eastfield Lodge, and the Imperial Commonwealth. It was named due to the fact that the Parliament is based just a few hundred metres down the road; in fact, the original stadium was actually joined to the Parliament building, as an area where MPs could watch or even engage in sport with the public, as well as being a designated protest site. However, with Lodgertia becoming more built up, it was decided that the stadium needed to be built up as well. It is home to Lodgertia United and Lodgertia City alongside being temporary hosts of RGS Athletic and VLC FC (when Lodger City was being rebuilt), and in the past has hosted several international matches, including the final of SBCC 27 and a group in both stages of Market Cup 4.

Manager: Lowell Brown
Age: 60. Manager of Seaton Town, Brown is known in Eastfield Lodge for being one of the fairest and impartial managers in the top flight - if his team were lucky with a decision, he will not claim otherwise. Prior to being selected as National Team manager, he had managed on the international scene previously, being put in charge of both the men’s and women’s Olympic football teams.
Coach: Shabeen Ahmad III
Age: 65. He went down in Eastfield Lodge history as having scored an absurd 201 goals in 215 appearances for the EL national team (records are still being compiled, but he looks likely to be the human player with the highest tally). Still an inspiration to everyone and even at this age his skill is noticeable, even if his agility has waned. He has been the main offensive coach for several World Cups now.

Formation: 4-1-2-3
Image

The formation is a weird variant on the classic basic 4-3-3. Here, there is the one holding midfielder, and the other two are pushed up to play just off the ST as attacking midfielders, whilst the WFs are also slightly tucked in from a usual position. This allows them more of an equal choice of either cutting in or going out wide for the cross, which may be met by the other winger or one of the midfielders. The front five can drift to other positions at any time, just to keep defences on their toes. Defensively, the AMs will drop back and slightly out wide or into the middle as required, and are decently proficient at dispossessing the ball and using it well. The DM is mainly there to guard the defence, and is adept at picking out a pass (short or long), and helping to dictate plays. The CBs are as standard, but the FBs are given the freedom to roam forwards as far as they can get away with, and more often than will get involved in attacking plays, with some crosses from both deep and closer in.
In terms of goal scoring, the ST will get the bulk of the goals, with good contributions from both the AMs and the WFs as well. The WFs will get most of the assists, followed closely by the AMs, then the ST and DM.

Select my scorers: Y
Give out yellow cards to my players: Y (maximum five, TG me with a reason for more)
Give out red cards to my players: Y (only one more than the number given to your team, maximum of three - i.e. I get two red cards, you must have at least one)
RP injuries to my players: Y (Maximum 3, no career-ending injuries without my explicit permission – I reserve right to how long players are out; you can RP how severe it looks)
Godmod injuries: Y (within some reason)
Godmod scoring events: Y (Have fun.)
Godmod other events: Y (TG me if you're planning on killing anybody though, or anything really extreme.)

If I do RP, I will include the line-up for the next match in my RP post, along with any suspensions/injuries. If there is no line-up, look through my posts and check for current suspensions/injuries, but otherwise it’s fine. Also, if you're RP'ing any part of my match, please use the full name Eastfield Lodge at least once, it helps me find the RP.

NB: As the people of EL are extremely compassionate, and very civilised (despite what you may say about the religion), it would be uncharacteristic for the coaches/players to lose their temper, dive deliberately (jumping out of the way of bad tackles and falling awkwardly doesn't count), to be sent to the stands (if the ref is clearly very biased however...), spit, argue with the ref or fight. Players will also tend to inform the referee about mistakes/clarifications in judgement regarding throw-ins, fouls given but with no contact and goal kicks/corner kicks (plus other bouts of honesty - up to you).

The Isles of Avon are a small, irrelevant island chain nation in Eastern Rushmore off the coast of Terranea, south of Ceni. Drawkland wished to have territory in Rushmore, and given that Ceni had influence over Avon, "gifted" The territory to them.

Soon after, the Federation of Avonian Soccer was formed, and a league bloomed. The FAS League merged with Cenileague the next cycle to create I-League, which was surprisingly competitive between the Avonian rookies and the Cenian vets. Now the sides compete in Terranean League East, which is basically the I-League but cooler sounding.

The 11 best players in the league that could fill a needed position were talked to and were put on the National Team for a last-second entry by FAS to the Baptism of Fire and World Cup (which has seemed to flop). Dean Regis, who managed Northampton, the first winners of the the Avonian League, was selected due to his success.

Now, after rather embarrassing themselves (besides a 1-0 win over Audioslavia) for two World Cup Cycles, they're ready to maybe embarrass themselves less in this cycle. At least, compared to the last time.

After the World Cup Cycle, they managed to get ahold of an order form for Meski and now they're far from the custom-printed T-shirts they ordered online and wore their first cycle. Pictured here are the Home, Away, and Goalkeeper jerseys in that order.

A pleasant, quiet archipelago. Scenic views, quaint cities, clean beaches, plays football sometimes.

Co-hosts of Copa Rushmori 41. Domestic league: Federation of Avonian Soccer.

So You Want to Know More About Footy in Nellietopia...

Well, that's a bloody mistake. Any exercise in understanding Nellies is an exercise in futility, much like emptying a bathtub of molasses with a spoon underwater. We've stopped trying to explain it years ago. But what you do need to understand are these:

(1) While there are many types of nellies, the most frequent (i.e. only) type of nellie found is the ubiquitous Purple-Stinging Nellie. These little critters are the conception of some crazed lunatic who spent his/her/its days inventing creatures with radically long stories filled to the brim with verbose descriptors like adverbs and adjectives (not to mention the odd plethora of parenthetical remarks). That crazed lunatic is now retired, but the conception that spawned the first purple-stinging nellie has given birth to a whole nation of nellies that very much dominates regional thought.

(2) The organization responsible for the defense of Nellietopia is known as the Armed Forces League of Allemenschen Critters (AFLAC). If you don't what that means, don't worry - we're still confused as well. The general jist is that the country that used to be the former territory of Nellietopia was once called Allemenschen, a poor country full of idiots (literally). Somewhere along the way, the defense of the country was subcontracted to a bunch of animals, hence AFLAC. The list of animals that makes up this armed force is only limited by the imagination allowed. Perhaps the most famous members are the Bovine Geese Corps, whose hatred of all things Sorthern Northland is quite renowned (even as the Snorths nuked themselves to oblivion). If you have no clue what any of this means, no worries - just assume it's a nellie sort of thing...

(3) A typical match of footy in Nellietopia is simply chaos. There are eleven nellies with eight legs. There is that purple silk that the nellies will produce. There is the stinging. There is the biting. And there is the ball - it is round.

I mean, we could contrive some roster for you to survey and say "well, I think Jim-Bob deserves to score a hat trick today..." but we've evolved beyond the need to publish match reports. Does it mean that you're going to love every last bit of RP we write? Hell no. People hate it when we write, because it means ten-ninety-three words of superfluous drivel (or - more pleasantly, 42 free verse words with no relevant meaning to anything else, especially the footy match). Moreover, even if we were to contrive a roster of nellies, the reality is that Nellietopian society is becoming more and more hive-mind-like. Is it fair to say one part is above any other part or whole?

To prepare you with that inevitable reality, we've concocted a few "realistic" scenarios should your team face a team of Nellies...

(A) "The [TEAMNAME] was sent to hospital following the DBC match against Nellietopia, most players suffering from serious bites and stings inflicted by the opponents. The referee attempted to issue red cards to the violating players, but he/she/it was stung as well and sent to the hospital. Government officials are now quarantining the stadium and banning Nellietopia from sending any more nellies, threatening to nuke the country with a giant can of RAID..."

(B) "The [TEAMNAME] emerged victorious over the puny Nellies of Nellietopia. Government officials later issued apologies after the entire Nellietopian team was squashed under the feet of the [NATION] players. The nellies are still recovering from the hospital, although it is widely expected that the nellies will remain in critical condition for some time..."

(C) "I rolled special DBC XL edition Nellie Scout Chance Cubes, and a badger mauled my niece!"

Well, there are other options. But that's for you to decide and for me to critique nonchalantly with a casual wag of my hyperbolic finger (all metaphorical, of course).

(4) More than likely, playing a bunch of nellies is going to be boring. I mean... they're nellies. You could spray a can of RAID and win. Or you could huff a can of RAID and die. Please don't die.

But instead of the match report, you could opt to partake in perhaps the greatest cultural legacy of the Nellies - an exclusive line of Nellie Scout brand merchandise! It started with the original - Nellie Scout Cookies, made with real scouts (not nellies...). Then we branched into other obscure (and long forgotten products). Recently, a new resurgence in the Nellie Scout brand has brought you a whole plethora of random shit that you don't need but you direly want (almost the same thing as needing, I suppose). Of course, you're welcome to buy stuff from our catalogue of [url=https://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=247293]Nellie Scout crap[/url

(5) RP Permissions: you can do anything whatever you are willing to have done to yourself. Be mindful of the torrent of words that you may unleash upon yourself should your RP not satisfy the nellies, however (as a point of advice, buy lots of our Nellie Scout shit, and you'll be plenty fine).

BTW: we pledge to the hosts that the nellies won't do anything to defile the host venues that can't be cleaned up with a good amount of Nellie Scout Elbow Grease ®.For playing purposes, our playing style shall be uber-attacking +5

The Astograth National Football Team

Style: +3
Nickname: Olibondeka (The Olives)
Colours: All olive green (home), all white (away), all blue (third).
Wiki article

Manager - Eriz Bakaikoa - Age 44
Eriz Bakaikoa, Astograth's man in Valhalla, was brought up at the prestigious Haapa-Mechelin Academy in Polar Islandstates, later graduating into the senior squad of FC Axel Heiburg. An elite attacking midfielder and long-time playmaker for the national team, he was an integral part of the Copa Rushmori XII-winning squad. At club level he won several league titles, the Cygnus Cup, the Rushmore Copa de Campeones and the UICA Champions' Cup. After retirement he turned to coaching and eventually management, holding several positions at Haapa-Mechelin before serving as assistant manager for Axel Heiburg.

Now, still recovering from the shock of Polar Islandstates' disappearance and return, the newly-refounded Futbol Astograthiko Federazioa have called him up to take charge of Olibondeka. The decision proved controversial, what with this being his first time as full manager and there being plenty of senior managers already plying their trade in Astograth. With local football reduced to semi-professionalism, however, the FAF instead placed their faith in someone more accustomed to high-level competition - even though reeling from a three-year time-skip and unaware of essentially any Astograthian football in the last twelve years.

A group stage exit from Copa Rushmori XXVII, which included an inaugural thrashing 6-1 thrashing by hosts Pasarga, has prompted a bit of shake-up in the squad, dropping veterans Andoni Bidigain, Ixidor Bernales, Eder Urrustoy, Frantz Ormache and Oskarbi Churin in favour of fresher meat. With the Astograthian First Division back in full swing, Bakaikoa has had plenty of chance to scope out new prospects for the team, taking a gamble on players such as Kiliz Peyran of Gesterlake FC. The decision to carry on with Dardan and Arambilet as starters has provoked mixed reactions, there being plenty of budding talent in the local league that's being left out. Worse still, a clash of egos from the Copa Rushmori has carried over to training for the qualifiers, sparking some scuffles and threatening to split the locker room between the Arambilet and Dardan.

Starting XI:

#1 - GK – Ipar Amiyategi - Age 34 - Image Ituraitz FC - 5 caps
#3 - LB - Siga Urtsua - Age 26 - Image Sporting Iturributa - 2 caps
#2 - CB - Bizi Senez - Age 32 – Image Royal Rumiatzi - 5 caps
#5 - CB - Baleren Narke - Age 24 - Image Ituraitz FC - 3 caps
#6 - RB – Nuxila Dezabaleta - Age 26 - Image Blue Mountain Range - 5 caps
Ipar Amiyategi, starting keeper, has had a long and successful career, starting out at Erribe United before migrating to Stalliongrad of Equestrian States, and now at the mighty Ituraitz FC. Tall and physically formidable, he provides some much-needed international acumen to this backline. Siga Urtsua, skilled at the mark tackle, takes the left wing, with the agile and technically-skilled Nuxila Dezabaleta on the right. Centre-backs Bizi Senez and Baleren Narke are probably the weakest spot on this team, each well-regarded at the domestic level but relatively untested against outside opponents - though Senez does own a Series B Champions' Cup medal from long ago. A poor defensive showing at the Copa Rushmori has been blamed on a lack of international experience rather than skill, hence Bakaikoa preferring to maintain largely the same lineup while intensifying preparation.

#14 - DM – Ager Alaba - Age 33 - Image KT Itzalovalle (Audioslavia) - 5 caps
#11 - LM - Perrando Albiza - Age 24 - Image Brookford Otters (Nephara) - 2 caps
#10 - RM - Xefe Larribe - Age 23 - Image Tanrısal (Pasarga) - 2 caps
Ager Alaba, still fully fit and with extensive experience at Urbanista Trojans of Apox and Itzalovalle of Audioslavia, anchors the centre of play and can drop back into the defense if necessary. To the sides go Perrando Albiza and Xefe Larriba as replacements for Andoni Bidigain and Eder Urrustoy. Larribe, former star player of Athletic Club Olarria, is small, quick and tricksy, moving unpredictably through the middle or the flanks. Albiza is less mobile, but great at distributing the ball and serving killer crosses into the box. This serves Bakaikoa's unusual formation just fine, as both will need to focus more on maintaining control of the midfield and setting up plays than venturing on their own.

#8 - AM – Luar Dardan (C) - Age 33 - Image Lajuno (Eura) – 64 caps, 21 goals (59 caps, 9 goals for Polar Islandstates)
#21 - AM – Ostadar Arambilet (VC) - Age 33 - Image Avenida Leal (Farfadillis) – 46 caps, 7 goals
#7 - CF - Egoitz Laurnagaray - Age 22 - Image Sporting Iturributa - 2 caps, 1 goal
Bakaikoa has recognised that offense is where this national team's hopes lie, and set about practicing a formation with two attacking midfielders and just one forward in order to acommodate two returning legends.

A sensation across Eura and Polar Islandstates, Luar Dardan accepted Bakaikoa's call-up as a Polarian citizen, having convinced the Terns to make an exception in their naturalisation policy and appearing for them in multiple World Cups. Ostadar Arambilet bears a similar tale: stranded in Farfadillis, he took up citizenship and shone at both Avenida Leal and the Farf national team, slowly moving up the pitch from his original centre-midfielder position. He takes up a position slightly behind that of Dardan's, aiming to provide coverage in the middle of the pitch if necessary. Named captain and vice-captain respectively, disagreements on the pitch have led the two typically calm stars to lock horns. Bakaikoa has intervened to mediate lest he lose control of the nation's two best players, but poor results could lead to an ugly polarisation.

Egoitz Laurnagaray, on the other hand, takes up the mantle of leading forward, adopting a similar spearhead position as he does with Sporting Iturributa. Many are unhappy that he has replaced the 34 year-old Frantz Ormache, who continues to bang in goals for Ituraitz FC, but Astograth is in need of the strikers of tomorrow today. The young Laurnagaray has the physique, the skill and the eye for goal to become one of the greats.

Substitutes:

#13 - GK – Lordi Elespuru - Age 33 - Image Urbizania Wanderers
#23 - GK – Urtzi Ulibarria - Age 23 - Image Oyardo FC
Bakaikoa has opted to bring along Lordi Elespuru, keeper for national champions Urbizania Wanderers and formerly of CA Paulinthal, as first backup, while the talented Urtzi Ulibarria has been called up with a look to the future.

#22 - LB – Ekialde Chakartegi - Age 23 – Image Ituraitz FC
#4 - CB - Sabin Tirapegi - Age 31 - Image Sporting Iturributa- 2 caps
#15 - CB – Xantalen Luzarraga - Age 24 – Image Royal Rumiatzi
#12 - RB – Gorri Bermeyo - Age 31 - Image Iturributa United - 1 cap
Sporting Iturributa, long renowned for its defensive quality, has put forward two of its men for Olibondeka's defense; not to be outdone, Iturributa United and Royal Rumiatzi each offer up one of their best. Sapin Tirapegi boasts a commanding - if aggressive - presence and can be a solid alternative to either Narke or Senez, proving himself up to the challenge at the Copa Rushmori. Gorri Bermeyo, gruff and tough, will let either the ball or the player past, but not both. Ekialde Chakartegi and Xantalen Luzarraga, untested with the national team, are young top-class players for top-class domestic teams, and perhaps too eager to show their worth.

#19 - DM – Alain Anderika - Age 23 - Image Blue Mountain Range - 3 caps
#16 - LM - Machin Orzanko - Age 24 - Image Sporting Iturributa
#17 - RM - Kiliz Peyran - Age 22 - Image Gesterlake FC
A cadre of young players, hand-picked by Bakaikoa, step up to offer interesting alternatives to the starting lineup. Anderika, born in Falconfar, plied his trade with Iona Spaceport Defenders before receiving a call-up to the Copa Rushmori and recently signing for Blue Mountain Range; full of vitality, he has the stamina to go box-to-box and the versatility to play in a variety of positions across the back half of the pitch. Machin Orzanko is talented at playing the full length of the pitch, capable of dropping into wing-back or surging forth as an inside forward, though his tricks and dribbles are perhaps one too many. Kiliz Peyran was a surprise inclusion into the squad, but Bakaikoa believes the winger to be a diamond in the rough, lacking only polish to bring forth that sharp vision and through-passing.

#20 - AM - Xabier Eskerra - Age 25 - Image Red Hill United (The Iron Syndicate) - 2 caps
#9 - CF - Lastur Orkola - Age 22 - Image Urbizania Wanderers
#18 - CF – Inchixu Huartemendi - Age 26 - Image Athletic Club Olarria
Xabier Eskerra, brought up at Iturributa United, keeps up their tradition for excellent playmakers - not particularly fast or agile, but at their best in the short dribble and passing, both vision and execution. His move to Red Hill United was met with disdain by the fans, accusing him of doing it for the money - which Eskerra promptly admitted to doing, flatly stating that not taking the millions offered by the Iron Syndicate would be idiocy. Further up there's Lastur Orkola, coming off a great season with Urbizania Wanderers. Not especially agile, but bursts of speed and a cool head make him absolutely clinical in the finish - though getting him in place is the hard part. Inchixu Huartemendi is Bakaikoa's choice for classic target man: a tall, strong player that you can trust to find space in the box and score.

Osarius Squad for World Cup 78

Image
Team: Osarius National Football Team (aka "The Firebirds")
Style modifier: +1.5 (counter-pressing defence; possession-based attack)
Manager: Ayanna Barca-Carthy
Assistant Manager: Autumn Phelps
Captain: Daniele Gentile
Vice-captain: Fabio Mancini
3rd captain: Demetrio Constantini
((Note: There is also a wiki link in my sig which may prove useful, though not entirely up to date at the moment))

Home stadium: Mount Crown Stadium, Burningham (cap. 98,000 all seated)
The Firebirds' home stadium is built at the foot of the imposing Mount Crown, on the outskirts of the capital city, Burningham. Fans are known for their extremely vocal support, and the Osarian national stadium has been described as a difficult place to play. The stats support this notion, as Osarius boast a superb record there over the past two decades. The most vociferous home fans are seated in a kop-esque stand built into the mountainside, with the huge, rocky face behind them adding to the intimidation. The pitch itself is usually made shorter, but wider than most, which is likely highly unfamiliar to most visiting teams. This is deliberate, as these odd dimensions cater to the short midfield passing and counter pressing style the Firebirds employ, as well as their frequent use of width. As a result, long-ball teams will likely find it difficult to find space behind the defence, but teams making liberal use of wingers will likely flourish. In a similar vein, a high offside trap (near the half way line, for example) will likely be more difficult to pull off, due to the speed at which a transition can occur -- with forwards still onside in their own half -- and limited space between defence and midfield.

My RP Permissions are pretty chill to be honest.
Pretty much anything goes, I only ask that you let me decide the severity of any injuries you decide to RP for me, please.
Send my players off if you must -- if its a player I really didn't wanna lose for the next game, I'll RP an appeal or something.
Oh and at the risk of sounding a bit "RAWR" ... do not kill any of my players or coaching staff (unless I say go ahead via TG).
Killing fans is okay though. Go nuts with that if you like.

I have a pretty clear tactical philosophy in mind for my team so I recommend at least skim-reading the next section, or the wiki page on the "Osarian 4-3-3", if you intend to RP the match in detail. Long story short, Osarius generally play in a style that is something like Arsenal's invincibles -- in that it's both possession based AND counter attacking -- while lining up in a Xavi/Messi-era Barcelona type 4-3-3 formation. It is unlikely a nation ranked outside the top 20 in the world could outplay them in midfield or win the possession game, but they are far from invulnerable, and have been overcome by teams playing even the simplest of tactical systems at times.

The team will generally attempt to control possession rather than engage in consciously defensive play; and "parking the bus" is a cardinal sin. If defensive tactics are called for, they will typically be proactive in nature, i.e. pressing from the front, high defensive line, etc. Rarely will the team defend passively.

When out of possession, the team will generally press high up the pitch to compress the available space -- because they are largely comfortable playing the ball under pressure -- and try to win the ball back as quickly as possible, sometimes over-committing, and leaving themselves vulnerable to a swift counterattack. Generally pacy defenders help to alleviate this problem somewhat.

Against stronger opponents, expect to see a more defensive positioning manifest itself. Fullbacks will be less likely to bomb forward, and the team tends to be more conservative in possession, often playing backward to draw the opposition in, before launching a devastating counter attack with pace. They will also slow down when ahead later in the game, but only so they don't unnecessarily provide opportunities to lose possession and/or concede. This doesn't mean they wont take the opportunity to score if it presents itself, though...

The front line is often very flexible, with all three/four players (usually) capable of playing in multiple forward roles. Most of the time, the centre forward/striker will remain the focal point of the team's central attacking, though, whether they are receiving passes or moving to make space for the wingers. Failing that, there will be a playmaker behind them in some capacity... I'll get to that in a bit.

The midfield can almost always be simplified into a three, and most of the time will line up in way that they form a sideways arrow (minus the shaft). By this, I mean that one will sit deep, one will push forward, and one will be a box-to-box type shuttling between the two.On the occasions no specifically named attacking midfielder ("AM" in the squad list) is used, typically it is an indicator that the manager expects a tighter battle for possession in the midfield zone, and it's likely two midfielders will be box-to-box, while the third midfielder is a more defensively-inclined (possibly even a "DM") option.

If there IS an attacking midfielder on the pitch, they will operate either as a playmaker, and most passages of play will go through them... or they will push forward from midfield a lot, getting onto the end of passes in the final third, and thus scoring a fair few goals in a manner not too unlike a "second striker" or "trequartista". I'll try to highlight which of the two if I feel like it really matters. Typically speaking, if none of the other two midfielders is mentioned as being outright defensive, the attacking midfielder is a "playmaker" type.

Defensively, Osarian centre-backs are typically pacy and expected to have strong aerial ability and good positional awareness. The latter part is less important if a player is particularly quick, though. Almost certainly, one of the centre backs or the goalkeeper will be good at organising the defence. In cases where there is a notable lack of organisational skill -- typically in situations lacking experience -- there is a clear knock-on effect on the rest of the team. With that in mind, don't expect starting centre backs to be among the younger or less experienced members of the team.

The fullbacks typically overlap a lot -- considering how often the wingers change sides and become "inverted" (i.e. cutting inside the defender on their stronger foot, rather than pulling wide) -- and seem to operate almost as advanced as wingbacks (or even midfielders against considerably weaker teams) a lot of the time, making the system a sort of like a 3-4-3 when Osarius attack, due to the deepest central midfielder dropping back to a position right in front of the defence, to counter against a potential playmaker "in the hole" for the opposition. This can be a potential weak point if this player is small in stature, as they will often get drawn into the backline and thus, potentially mismatched against forwards.

If you did read the spoiler above, thank you! You don't have to stick to all of that, but I feel like it gives more material if you wanna get into the details. Also, tbh, it just fits in better with the way I intend to RP my team (when I can).

Set piece preferences (in order):
Corner kick takers: Whichever wingers/wide forwards are on the pitch
Penalty takers: Watson first choice, then Johnson, then any other striker, then Gentile or any attacking midfielders, then whoever the hell you want.
Free kick takers: Watson first again (because he has powers and is significantly more likely than average to score), then whoever really
Long free kicks: Constantini or Monteforte

Something that is important to know is that football isn't entirely the number one sport in Osarius. It sort of shares that status with GraviBall, which still enjoys more widespread popularity, as well as commercial and financial interest.

Footballers in Osarius are loved if they cover a lot of ground and make tough tackles, because the combative nature of the game is what the majority of fans like most. Very passionate, are Osarian fans, you see. Sooo... basically, if you're not scoring goals or making crunching tackles, the fans generally aren't impressed. That goes for opponents too... Osarian fans always appreciate a good tackle, so they will even applaud opposition players at times (although they will boo their goals, obvs).

The complicated tactical systems used by modern Osarian teams are well-understood by the fans, and a growing football blogging community within Osarius often has in-depth tactical discussion, and regularly posters show great insight. This is thought to be the result of a general increase in coaching quality throughout the nation, which has also contributed heavily to the national team's increased degree of success in recent years.

From time to time I'll make reference to the area a player is from, and when I do, I will try to add an OOC note to explain what it means, because different regions of Osarius have almost entirely different cultures. Same goes for ethnic groups, and I'll actually explain all of this in a factbook or something eventually, I swear!

Manager: Ayanna Barca-Carthy
Underrated and underappreciated by most as a player, and has worked long and hard to get her chance as national team boss... so she has a bit of a chip on her shoulder. She might look small and not particularly tough, but don't be fooled. The quieter she is, generally, the more you should be worried. Not as opinionated and outspoken as she was in her younger years, but now an expert in wielding the "mom voice", and "disappointed look". Her approach to leadership is mostly defined by her attempts to equip others to lead, rather than take charge herself.

Projected starting XI: [ 4-3-3 ] Monteforte; W. Simpson, Constantini, Calabrese, Rizzi/Carter; Gentile, Mancini, Urso/Allen; Bartley, Johnson, Watson

Team selection notes and advice:
The choice between Urso and Allen is almost entirely stylistic. One creates more, one scores more. Your call if you RP first.
If Osarius are not the favourites, please replace Urso/Allen with a more rounded midfielder. If the opposition are a strong attacking side, an explicitly defensive option would be preferred, please.
The choice between Rizzi and Carter is similar, except Rizzi is more stable defensively, and Carter offers more going forward (particularly on the counter). Again, your call.
You'll also note that there is no cover at left back. If you decide to injure Will Simpson -- himself not really a leftback -- just drop any one of the wingers into left back. Feel free to use this as a plot point; a weakness to exploit, etc. Of the options, Montanari is most comfortable filling in, if that makes a difference.

Substitutions are mostly your call, but here's a primer:
Udowu is the "ace up the sleeve" if the team needs a late goal. He'll miss a lot of chances, but then probably score a difficult one with some outlandish martial arts technique.
Luther Bailey or Lauro Tedesco will feature whenever the team needs to lock down the midfield or see out a win. Bailey is far more likely to start, Tedesco slightly more likely to sub in.
Federico Serra has revived his career, and should be the "feel good story" of this cycle for Osarius, so chuck him in a fair bit, please.
Everything else is at your discretion.

Please assume YES for all answers in the Permission Box – just don’t kill anyone, K?
Ages as of World Cup LXXVII finals. Subtract two years for first half of qualifying, one for second half.

Image
KRYTENIA 2246 WORLD CUP SQUAD
Modifier: +3

THE MANAGEMENT TEAM

Manager – Dario NAVAS, Age 59
Instant legend – just add silverware. Navas is now immortalised in Krytenian football history by bringing home the Dragons' first trophy at AOCAF LII. The question is, though, whether there is a new generation capable of carrying on the great work.

Assistant Manager – Marco ANGELO, Age 44
Goalkeeping Coach – Marcus BAILEY, Age 41
Defensive Coach – Alfie XOUSA, Age 42
Offensive Coach – Alexander SAMPSON, Age 40
Physiotherapist – Victoria BARCA, Age 29

THE SQUAD

Image
Devon WILLIAMS
Age: 32
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Emberton Reds

Six-foot-seven, seventeen stone, and as agile as a cat. If he wasn't a goalkeeper, he could get a job in acting as "Scary Black Man #3".

Image
Stephen MILOSEVIC
Age: 23
Position: Right-back
Club: Stanton Town

Cautious defender, more comfortable containing than bombing forward.

Image
Liam ALLEN
Age: 27
Position: Left-back
Club: Mercia Bromham

Pacy full-back who likes to link up with the wide midfielders. Expect plenty of crosses to feed the front men.

Image
Kevin FOURNIER
Age: 30
Position: Centre-back
Club: Avidia United

Tall and muscular, Fournier isn't exactly an exponent of finesse – good luck beating him in the challenge, though.

Image
Quinton JOHANSSON
Age: 26
Position: Centre-back
Club: Casuals Osteria

Calm in the tackle, Johansson is comfortable playing in the back line or as a libero behind the central three.

Image
Jaime VERDANO
CAPTAIN
Age: 31
Position: Central midfield
Club: Avidia United

Slick passer of the ball with slicked-back hair and a smooth style. Bosses the centre of the park like he owns the place.

Image
VALRAUNCION
Age: Elf
Position: Forward
Club: Telecontarë (STB)

Ah, the infamous elf. Valrauncion has the unusual distinction of winning major international trophies for two nations. Whilst a Starblaydi international (and World Cup winner), he made a home for himself in Ousevale, and when Starblaydia withdrew from international football at the end of World Cup 57, the KFA made a cheeky request to naturalise the striker and offer him a place in the cyan. To their astonishment, he accepted. Now back where it all began for his club, the Cyan Army still knows that he may be a cock, but he's OUR cock.

Image
Al MOONEY
Age: 26
Position: Right midfield
Club: Royal Emberton

Free-kick specialist. His close control is second to none; expect him to cut inside rather than lob one in from the flanks.

Image
Charlie SAMMELS
Age: 23
Position: Forward
Club: Avidia United

Seling has big boots to fill, taking the role formerly owned by Ronnie van Rijn and Alex Sampson. Luckily for the Dragons, he's more lethal than an angry gorilla with a tommy gun.

Image
Sebastian McALLISTER
Age: 24
Position: Forward
Club: Caledon Simpson

”Wee Seb” may be barely 5'6”, but good things come in small packages. So does C4, of course...and he'll need that explosiveness to fill the shoes of a certain Mr A Ortega.

Image
Marco ESCOBAR
Age: 25
Position: Left midfield
Club: Avidia United

Another one off the assembly line marked “speedy Hispanic Krytenian midfielders”. Will link up well with Liam Allen.

Image
Douglas O'DONNELL
Age: 29
Position: Central midfield
Club: Emberton Reds

Don't let the rock star hair fool you. O'Donnell is all business in the middle of the park.

Image
YEONG Lee-Guk
Age: 26
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: Caledon Simpson

Lists former Dragons' stopper AS Choi as his idol. If he's even half as good, we're in safe hands.

Image
Graham OWENS
Age: 29
Position: Right midfield
Club: Ousevale Borough

Not that quick for a winger; it's his array of tricks, and his accurate delivery, that put him in contention for a place.

Image
Damiano MORENO
Age: 31
Position: Right-back
Club: Avidia United

Burst on the scene in the latter half of Liga Calania Season XV. Bags of pace.

Image
Peter KENILWORTH
Age: 32
Position: Central midfield
Club: Leston Town

The latest in a long line of attacking midfielders whose main job in the squad is “watch Ortega from the bench”. Or “watch McAllister from the bench”.

Image
David HILL
Age: 22
Position: Forward
Club: Mercia Bromham

Never mind Hill, he's got a mountain to climb to unseat Valrauncion. We'll get our coats.

Image
Neil JONES
Age: 31
Position: Forward
Club: Emberton Reds

Decent goal rate; prefers to play as a false nine.

Image
Stephen ROSSI
Age: 34
Position: Centre-back
Club: Stanton Town

No-nonsense, hard-tackling central defender.

Image
Ian ALBARN
Age: 33
Position: Centre-back
Club: Ashton Olympic

Albarn is as solid as a house at the back, preferring to play as an impromptu sweeper rather than creeping forward. This may limit his places in the national team, though, due to their predeliction for the pressing game.

Image
Andy COALVILLE
Age: 23
Position: Left midfield
Club: Emberton Reds

Decent pace; enjoys the pull-back cross from the bye-line.

Image
Owain MORGAN
Age: 33
Position: Goalkeeper
Club: New Cefn Albion

Lists former national team hero Arian as his inspiration. Gets plenty of shot-stopping practice as Albion keeper.

Image
Caroline WILKINSON
Age: 30
Position: Left-back
Club: Caversham

One of the few female players in the Liga Calania, but can show the men a thing or two on the ball.

LIKELY STARTERS
Williams
Milosevic – Fournier – Johansson – Allen
Mooney – Verdano (c) – Escobar
McAllister
Valrauncion – Sammels

National Information

Name: The Fiefdom of Cosumar

Government: Cosumar is a Fiefdom divided into 21 historical 'Fiefs' (jurisdictions of power in ancient feudal Cosumar) that essentially now function as provinces. Cosumar's government is an executive constitutional monarchy, which means that the crown does wield significant governing power but is limited therein by a Constitution and Royal Congress. Cosumarite society is dedicated to complete rights and respect for all sentient beings, advancement of science, conservation of nature and space exploration. Cosumar has the highest Human Development Index in Atlantian Oceania according to WA Census, and is in the Top 1% of the world's Most Developed, Cultured and Intelligent nations. King James II has continued Cosumar's tradition of encouraging technological progress and immigration while simultaneously maintaining our diverse natural features and unique culture.

Region: Atlantian Oceania (far Northeast | COCANEFA)

Nicknames: Primarily Vanquishers (since WC 72) or, historically, Azure Dragons

Colors: Navy, Royal Blue, Silver, White

Stadium: Farris Crowley Memorial World Cup Stadium at The Royal Palace (capacity 105,000)
Image
This shiny new behemoth was built specifically to host the World Cup 78 Final (...and become the first stadium in Cosumar to hold 100,000). Mouthful of a name aside (it's already becoming known simply as "Crowley Memorial"), the stadium is a beacon of Cosumarite efficiency. Sleek, simple and elegant in design, bathed in gold to match the King's own decadent residential palace just a block away. The regular tenants are the club King James owns: four-time HL champions OAS Royal FC. It is named after Farris Crowley, who served as the manager of the national team for nearly 40 years and took Cosumar to its first seven World Cups and died shortly before its completion.

Ramusok itself? It's the capital city. Home of the royal family, King's Congress and 14 million others. Epicenter of historic dynasties. Bastion of knowledge and creativity. Young and eccentric, yet clean and elegant. Ramusok is the crown jewel of Cosumar, the pinnacle of a thousand years of Cosumarite civilization. There are centuries-old libraries and museums everywhere. Yet Ramusok also boasts some of the most stunning abstract modern architecture in the world, coexisting with the ancient in harmonic balance. Just see the all-glass resorts and offices overlooking the water on Azure Lane. The nightlife is extravagant thanks to the young and "hip" population (Ramusok Capital University definitely contributes). Make sure to catch some of the live music at night - there are venues specifically dedicated to genres ranging from black metal to indie pop to avant-garde jazz. As a multiversal city, people and species of all kinds congregate here, though the city does still retain a strong Swedish component leftover from the old Albertsson dynasty - evident in many of the place names. Pleasantly moderate for much of the year, though there are four definite seasons.

Team History

Snapshot: Cosumar made its international debut in World Cup 51 and Finals debut in World Cup 54. In World Cup 73, new manager Gethin Ramsey built on the momentum from winning the preceding Cup of Harmony to qualify Cosumar for the first time since World Cup 62, ending a miserable 20-year drought. Since, the Vanquishers have advanced to five consecutive World Cup knockout rounds and three Quarterfinals. With the program now reestablished as a contender and hosting the big event for the first time, expectations are higher than ever. A first ever trip to the semifinals is the goal.

Expanded History: Cosumar qualified for six consecutive World Cups (54-59) in its original "golden age" of soccer, going out twice in the group stage and then four times in the Round of 16. After World Cup 59, Cosumar reached its peak ranking of #7 in the world. The National Team began a gradual decline in World Cups 60 & 61, in which they were eliminated in the Qualification Playoffs despite strong campaigns. They would qualify once again for World Cup 62 in Astograth, but the downward trajectory had already set in. World Cups 64-66 were particularly bleak and saw our once-elite ranking dip as low as the 80s. Many demanded the sacking of Farris Crowley, manager since WC54, the glory days of his tenure a distant memory. But the FSF stuck with him, and Cosumar began re-emerging as a force to be reckoned with around World Cup 68. A marvelous crop of young talent (Francois Renault, Alexander Pearce, etc.) now lovingly referred to as the "Renaissance Generation" started to restore the former honor to the Dragonshirt. They led several increasingly competitive Qualifying and Cup of Harmony campaigns...though they never did manage to return to the biggest stage. They came so close time and time again, but Margaret was never on their side. Their generation's swansong ended up being 3rd place at Cup of Harmony 62. But then the next cycle, World Cup 72, was a rough transition and threatened to erase all the momentum. It was a colossal disaster. The worst campaign since Cosumar's WC51 debut. Eight draws against lower-ranked sides. Farris Crowley was finally sacked after 40 years. Nephara legend Gethin Ramsey arrived and salvaged Cosumar's ranking by winning the subsequent Cup of Harmony. Ramsey continued to work wonders afterwards, leading his "Vanquishers" to five consecutive World Cup Finals (73-77), including our best-ever finish (Quarterfinals) three times. With Cosumar now ranked in the world's top 15 and drawing from a deeper pool of talent than any in our history, it's up to new manager Alexander Pearce to make a strong push on home soil in World Cup 78 and begin writing his own chapter.

Cosumar 4-0 Haginonia - World Cup 54 Interzonal Stage - Showdown on the final day of Qualifying with both sides' first World Cup berth at stake: we rolled.
Cosumar 1-0 Sarzonia - World Cup 57 MD3 - Cosumar advances to its first Round of 16 at Sarzonia's expense.
Cosumar 7-3 Kagdazka & Pazhujebu - World Cup 60 Qualification Playoff - Brutal revenge against K&P for ousting us on penalties in the previous World Cup's Round of 16.
Cosumar 5-1 The Sarian - Cup of Harmony 64 Finals - Ramsey and the newly-christened "Vanquishers" propel Cosumar to lift a first WCC trophy.
Valanora 2–2 Cosumar (3–3 AET) (7–8 pen.) - World Cup 73 Round of 16 - After splitting the series in group play, we triumphed over the Elves to claim our first ever Quarterfinals.

Most heartbreaking moments:
Cosumar 1-1 (1-1 AET, 3-4 PKs) Churchma - Cup of Harmony 45 Semifinals - Losing on penalties always hurts, especially when it's to your oldest rival so deep in a tourney.
Cosumar 0-3 Sorthern Northland - World Cup 55 MD3 - It came down to this match for a spot in the Ro16, and we got our asses kicked.
Cosumar 2-4 Sorthern Northland - World Cup 56 Round of 16 - We finally made it to the knockout rounds for the first time, just to be humbled by these guys again.
Cosumar 1-4 Jeru FC - World Cup 57 Round of 16 - Another drubbing in the Ro16.
Cosumar 0-4 The Babbage Islands - World Cup 58 Round of 16 - New Cup, same story. Dragons fall apart in the knockouts.
Cosumar 3-3 (3-3 AET, 2-4 PKs) Kagdazka & Pazhujebu - World Cup 59 Round of 16 - This is THE match that haunts the dreams of every Cosumarite to this day. We had rolled through our Qualification and World Cup groups in dominant fashion - completely undefeated. It was the greatest Cosumarite team ever assembled, seeming destined for new heights. In the Ro16, the Dragons led the Urchins 3-0 late and celebrations had already begun. But Chalia Sajid scored a flurry of goals for an unlikely hat trick in final 15 minutes to force extra time. In the eventual shootout, we would completely choke, badly missing the target twice. Complete and utter shock. Many wandered if Cosumar would EVER be able to advance to the quarterfinals and exorcise these demons. It took nearly 30 years.
Cosumar 0-0 (0-2 AET) Unified Sunrise Islands - World Cup 75 Quarterfinals - On the brink of our first ever semifinals appearance, we are sunk by a Kevin Stabb brace in extra time to lose our chance to play for a WC medal. This "cinematic" USI team, which came out of nowhere, would go on to win the whole thing, leaving Cosumarites wondering what could've been.
Cosumar 2-2 (2-3 AET) Chromatika - World Cup 76 Quarterfinals - Cosumarites come agonizingly close to tasting the semifinals once again. The Vanquishers twice give up their lead and fall in extra time despite Chromatika going down to ten men and infamously moving one of their star attackers to goalkeeper in desperation. Pure torture. The match that made Chromatika our greatest modern rivals.

Team Information

Style Modifier: +2.3

Post-WC78Q Ranking: #12 (KPB 35.07)

Formation: 4-3-1-2
With a new manager comes a new set of tactical ideas. Gethin Ramsey is gone and so is that beloved flat 4-4-2 from which he never wavered. Even though he was a defender in his playing years, new boss Alexander Pearce brings a more attacking approach with a 4-3-1-2 that essentially functions like a 4-3-3 but with one of the strikers dropping back to play in the hole as a true #10 behind the other two. Filling that crucial role is Rozelle playmaker Alora Heher. Pearce essentially crafted this formation around the budding star, hoping to maximize her talents better than Ramsey did.

Tactical Breakdown: The play tends to flow somewhat narrow through this formation, with most chances being worked through the center rather than channeling it wide and pumping in crosses like we did so often under Ramsey. This is ideal because of Heher's instincts pulling string in the middle, and because none of strikers Valgard/Targaryen/Culbreth are particularly strong in the air - all much better finishers with their feet. When the ball is won in the defensive half, the immediate outlet is then usually Stig Söderquist in the middle instead of always finding the wingers like we were used to. LM Bellerophon Serafino covers a crazy ground and can also materialize in the middle to receive an outlet before quickly drifting back out to the left. The three-man midfield line can then choose to combine laterally with each other or find one of the three attacking players ahead of them. When they play directly to Valgard or Targaryen or whoever up top, that sets up the magic situation: the striker can play to the feet of Heher 20 meters from goal, then make a cutting run to receive the ball back in on goal or create space for the other striker. Pearce has been working his young attacking corps relentlessly on these combinations this week. If defenses crowd and overcommit to the CAM in response, that's when the Vanquishers can bring the LM/RM/LB/RB forward and flex some width. This formation does, however, place a lot of strain on the LM and RM. They need to provide width in the final third, but then get back and squeeze narrower as the first line of pressure in the case of an opposition counter. Fortunately, work rate is a particular strength of Serafino and Kit Kvanderwyk. In essence, the "up the spine" play style actually funnels the opposing team into the center of park, gives space for strikers to operate and makes the wide players all the more dangerous when the play does calls for them. A by-product of the “funneling” idea is that it forces the opponents to play narrow as well and therefore makes it easier to defend against them if that is not their usual style.

Note on Vloo: The roster consists of 23 players, 22 of whom are standard humans. The other player (defender Bacary Na'Kale) is of the Vloo people (species homo cosumarensis), a humanoid race native to Cosumar. Vloo are, on average, two inches taller than humans (which admittedly can come in handy on set pieces), and they must use different footwear due to their foot structure. Vloo have blue-tinted skin, two small black horns protruding from their foreheads, and spiky spines that be visibly seen from the back of their head/neck for some. And tails. They are distinguished by their surnames, with typically begin with prefixes such as Na', Va' or Vu'. Since World Cup 51, there has always been at least one Vloo player in the squad, but never more than four.

Cosumar's current kits were prepared for the team by Meski Soccer & Sports Store of Red Blackiland before the World Cup 75 cycle, our 50th anniversary in international competition. The design has been applauded by for improving upon the already-brilliant kits that served us from WC 71-74, while still staying true to the spirit of the beloved WC 54-69 classic kits. The home and away kits make heavy use of the national colours (blue, white, silver) and the majestic Cosumarite Azure Dragon that these lands are famous for. The goalkeeper kit features hints of the royal family's colors: Green and Gold.

First-Choice Starting XI

Goalkeeper - Jakk Winterfyll - 34 - Image Kingsgrove Image
Winterfyll is a rock-solid keeper, likely the finest Cosumar ever produced. He already has seven World Cups under his belt and has started every WCC match for Cosumar since World Cup 71. He's coming off a sabbatical that saw him miss the AOCAF, but it shouldn't be a problem for the grizzled vet. He dominated domestically with Crawford City FC early in his career, setting a record for clean sheets in a season. He then became a mainstay in Apox with Exton FC, blossoming into one of the world's elite goalkeepers. When the ANL collapsed, he took his talents to the A-League and won New Player of the Year in his debut season in Brenecia. He's now a champion. Kingsgrove just enjoyed a dominant title season with Winterfyll ever-present in the back. He is known for his seemingly psychic anticipation and springy reflexes. Off the pitch, Winterfyll plays several Cosumarite folk instruments like the vevlira and the flojagu and is a regular contributor to the annual "Sounds of Ancient Cosumar" compilation CD. Full bio.

Left Back - Bacary Na'Kale - 25 - Image Mâ Âlâmëómë Image
After cracking the Cassandra City first team at barely 18 and outshining established players, Na'Kale became the subject of a sudden rainfall of foreign bids. Mâ Âlâmëómë won Na'Kale's services and the Vloo further surprised by locking down the first-choice left back spot in Farfadillis almost immediately. Then 19. Na'Kale has played almost every minute of the last five seasons now for the powerhouse club and helped them to a resurgent title. His rise to club stardom has been mirrored in the National Team over the last few World Cups, in which he has registered a crazy amount of assists for a left back. Na'Kale's pace is his most noticeable attribute, but it is his intrinsic understanding of the position that, when combined with his athleticism, makes him so special. He has also vastly improved his dribbling and crossing since moving to Farfadillis. Where once was a weakness, Bacary has since become better than 90% of fullbacks. Hence 11 assists in the last two World Cups! In with a shout as the best Cosumarite player right now. And he's still so young! The Vanquishers appear to be set at this position for several cycles to come.

Center Back - Deirdre McNessa - 30 - Image Starling Image
McNessa came out of nowhere to make the WC 75 squad after Starling came out of nowhere to win the Nepharim Premiership. In the five years since, Starling and McNessa have proven to be no fluke, both player and club boldly cementing themselves at the top of the world game. As a top performer for the recent Multiverse champions, McNessa must surely go down as one of the best bargains in Nepharim history after Starling scooped her up as a free transfer. She actually had a promising early career in Cosumar, representing with our U23 and U21 sides while playing for Pardock Island at their peak. But a slew of injuries sidetracked her development and Pardock Island ended up cutting their losses when she just couldn't stay on the pitch. At a crossroads, she signed for some newly-promoted team in Nephara, hoping to catch on there... and you know the rest. She hasn't been hurt since and has maximized her early potential against all odds. In WC 75, she became the first female defender to earn a Cosumarite cap. In WC 76, she then became the first female defender to start a World Cup Finals match for Cosumar. Marvelous story. She is tall, slender, a good passer out of the back and fearless in the air despite her previous injuries.

Center Back - Peter Svensson - 29 - CAPTAIN - Image AFC Treason Image
Detecting a future centerpiece, Gethin Ramsey brought Svensson along slowly during the World Cup 72 and 73 cycles. By World Cup 74, he was ready to take over as the heart and soul of the Cosumarite defense. The entire team looks to Svensson as a leader now. A titanic figure for FC Jansberg through the entirety of its LigAnaia tenure and now for AFC Treason (winning Premiership Debutant of the Year as Treason marched to the CC semifinals), Svensson is the dream center back. He looks as strong as he is, is a master of interceptions, is comfortable dribbling and passing and, most of all, is an infamous aerial threat on set-pieces. He'll contribute several goals per domestic season with his head. It feels like Svensson has been around forever, but people forget that he was only 19 when he started winning titles for Jansberg. He was a homegrown standout for the Na'Malsille Mariners before that. He has so much experience but he's really just now in the peak moment of his career. Is there a better center back in the world right now??? Peter is the nephew of Herrgly Svensson, a famous Cosumarite daredevil known for skydiving out of a space station, and little brother of Erak Svensson, a Congressman.

Right Back - Mortimer Chisenhall - 27 - Image Real Azuris Image
A prized product of the AC Holmenkollen academy, Chisenhall spent several years there as a young phenom before finally completing his long-awaited move to a bigger club at age 22. He had a shaky start to life in Azuris, but found his footing - and more - in his second and third seasons there. The last few years have seen Chisenhall emerge as the best defensive right back in all the Härlighet Ligan. He was part of an Azurian back line that dominated the league en route to a double-digit points gap three years ago, and was instrumental in Real's astonishing Champions Cup victory two years ago. Chisenhall's attacking capabilities are somewhat limited, but he is simply a sublime one-on-one defender. Off the pitch, he's a quiet lad and almost always has his nose in a book.

Left Midfielder - Bellerophon Serafino - 25 - Image Cassandra City Image
It's apt that this kid is named after a pegasus-riding Greek hero. With long legs and galloping stride that rapidly eats ground, Serafino is a true pegasus-like workhorse. Minus the flying. Sometimes he gets from one end of the pitch to another so fast that opponents probably thought he flew though. Each of the last two seasons, he has broken his own Härlighet Ligan record for mileage covered - instrumental in holding Cassandra City's thinly-spread midfield together. Serafino was somehow still uncapped, but Alexander Pearce made it his first priority to fix that in the last AOCAF - and Belle performed well to cement his place. Pearce is placing a lot of faith in him, constructing the tactics around Serafino so that he's in a similarly instrumental role as at Cassandra City - one that demands him to contribute heavily in every third of the pitch and always being in place in time to do so. Serafino's ability on the ball in limited - he won't beat defenders with individual skill or score many goals - but he can flow in move 'n' pass sequences with the best of them and play some nice long balls in. Off the pitch, he's known for his satirical (we hope?) covers of popular rap songs on social media.

Center Midfielder - Stig Söderquist - 25 - Image Real Azuris Image
Stig is a sharp box-to-box midfielder. His best role is to hold, to cover for and feed more attack-minded partners. He doesn't do anything flashy to pop off the screen, but he does all the little things that help a team succeed. Always finishes with an extremely high pass completion rate and ratio of successful tackles in midfield. He's a native of Azuris who joined Real's academy system at age 11 and gradually worked his way up to a starting position for the senior team over ten years. With Söderquist efficient beyond his years as the beating pulse behind the curtain in midfield, Real Azuris has swept the rest of the Harlighet Ligan aside for several trophies in recent seasons. As far as tidy midfielders go, Söderquist is a rockstar now. A quietly superb player that any coach would love to have in their side. World Cup 77 was his first tournament as the penciled-in starter, but he should be more at ease this time around.

Right Midfielder - Kit Kvanderwyk - 29 - Image Cornellians Image
Fan-favorite Kvanderwyk had a great World Cup 77 cycle with 7 goals. If there was any doubt that he was back in the NT fold to stay, the subsequent appointment of his manager/mentor from Cornellians, Alexander Pearce, should remove it once and for all. He and Pearce, along with sister Kathryn Kvanderwyk, have been an unstoppable Cosumarite trio in Schottia, leading Cornellians to the latter stages of the Champions' Cup and multiple domestic titles. Kit was originally a hyped product of the FC Kaldukosic academy who managed to crack their first team by age 17. At 21, he transferred to Cassandra City and helped the Reds win the league, placing in the top five for Player of the Year. That success earned him a super-sub role for the national team throughout the WC 73 cycle, during which he scored three goals. But declining club performances after that saw him slide out of favor until being rejuvenated under Pearce at Cornellians. Kvanderwyk is skillful, inventive and intelligent... but lacking great pace. He won't blow by any opponents - he instead uses his technicality and cleverness to create space before delivering balls in with pinpoint accuracy. Off the pitch, Kvanderwyk is a massive fan of the Cosumarite heavy metal scene even hosts his own annual music festival: the KvanderFest.

Central Attacking Playmaker - Alora Heher - 26 - Rozelle Image
Heher was a surprise story when she scored a goal and two assists in just 30 minutes on her Cosumar in AOCAF 52. She's not surprising anybody anymore though. Now an established star, all eyes are squarely on her as she takes the reins of the Cosumarite attack for the first time as an every-match starter. After impactful substitute appearances throughout World Cups 76 & 77, most people are saying "it's about damn time". Unfortunately, there's still a little bit of uncertainty as to what exactly she can do in a featured role due to her bad luck with club situations. She missed a season due to Chromatik politics. Her debut season at Rozelle was overshadowed by match-fixing scandals, though she settled in pretty well for them this year in her second season. This World Cup, at home, will be an opportunity for Heher to finally prove herself on a big shining stage and prove she can be the face of this team long-term. She is extremely quick, nimble and energetic, wearing out defenders over the course of the game. Most impressive though is her killer instinct in the final third. She excels threading that perfect ball between the lines, through the defense. Her close touch in tight quarters also makes her ideal for this play-through-the-middle #10 role.

Striker - Romikk Valgard - 24 - Ulsa Image
Many are looking at Romikk Valgard's dizzying rate of development and predicting that he will be the next big Cosumarite superstar very soon. Ulsa agrees, having just paid West Gundar a premium price to make him their new starting striker. In the three seasons since WGFC scooped the lad up from obscurity for $300k pocket change, he scored 9 goals, then 11, then 16 - the most of any Cosumarite in the Harlighet Ligan two years ago. With each season, his first touch, composure and left foot came back dramatically improved. And his right-footed shot and natural all-around athleticism were always first-rate. Now he can thrive finding a window on goal in tight spaces with ball underfoot or running into open space with bursting acceleration and finishing with either foot. That improvement continued in World Cup 77 as he grew before our eyes in all six of his substitute appearances, scoring five goals (including multiple late winners). Instant phenomenon. He'll be the most-talked-about Cosumarite heading into this tournament, with the whole Fiefdom eager to see if he can take his play to yet another level as a newly-minted Ulsa star. He's surprisingly weak in the air for someone of his height though, which Pearce has factored into the tactics. Also of note is that Valgard is the first player born on extraterrestrial colony Kalloroda to play for Cosumar. He also has a thing for bananas.

Striker - Ragnar Targaryen - 25 - Image CA Paulinthal Image
Ragnar signed with CA Paulinthal at 17 as a top prospect out of Rocinante Preparatory School, Cosumar's most prestigious private youth residency academy. At 23, he finally broke through as a starter at CAP after six years of simmering development. And what a whirlwind year it was! Solidifying himself as part of a lethal attacking trio alongside Valladares international Abel Brücke, Ragnar helped propel CAP to the Copa de Campeones Final... and the brink of the SuperLiga title. His sudden stardom in Pasarga makes him a must-include for new manager Alexander Pearce. Targaryen was uncapped before World Cup 77, but stepped right in and led the team in goals+assists, showcasing his versatility, stellar first touch and passing ability. He doesn't have Valgard's pace, but he's a hard runner. And though he's perhaps below-average height for a striker, Ragnar is sturdily built and has natural heading ability when he can win the ball in the air. He has also earned something of a reputation for scoring from unusual angles in Pasarga. He can still improve at dribbling and hold-up play (which may see him switched in favor of prototypical target Ruhl). Off the pitch, Ragnar is heavily into sci-fi and fantasy fandom - a geek at heart. He's also a big fan of his hometown club: Mallox.

Remaining Squad

GK - Cormak Lethbridge - 30 - Image Coret Hawks Image
Lethbridge gained some good experience starting throughout last year's AOCAF, but make no mistake, Jakk Winterfyll is back from his sabbatical and still the first-choice goalkeeper for Cosumar. Tall, spindly goalkeeper. The best parts of his game are his distribution, unflappable poise and organization -- earning the nickname "The Brigadier" for his command of the defense. Above average in the shot-stopping department too, though Lethbridge has been criticized for his perceived unwillingness to venture away from the goal. He has done a nice job in three seasons in Nephara after leaving FC Kaldukosic, making this first World Cup well-deserved. It might not be a coincidence either that FC Kaldukosic have plummeted down the table with catastrophic defending since then without their "Brigadier". Foreign spectators, however, may know him better as the boyfriend of a certain Chromatik superstar...

LB - Alexis Brill - 24 - Image Violence Chariots Image
Former U21 stalwart Brill has broken through as a starter in Nephara over the last two seasons and Pearce has rewarded her with her first invitation to a World Cup. She wasn't a showstopper for Chariots, but she fared well by most accounts, which is enough to be impressive for a young defender trying to make her way at a major Premiership club. Her acclimation was aided by the fact she was already quite experienced going to Nephara at 20, having played regular first-team soccer for St. Marie in Kernansquillec since the tender age of 16. Brill is a slightly undersized fullback whose light-footed energy, pace and deceptive strength help compensate for her small frame. She flies up and down the left side, getting involved deep in the attack and ~usually~ making it back in time to defend. Her cross doesn't have much range, but she's pretty accurate when closer. Off the pitch, she collects antique Cosumarite dolls. According to her Instagram, she and her mom together have over 6000.

CB - Torbjörn Jorgensen - 26 - Image SC Rinaldi Image
Tremendous defender with big championship-winning experience in Cosumar and LigAnaia. He doesn't offer anything fancy like passing range or dribbles, but he's a beast of a physical presence. Jorgensen defends aggressively and wears his heart on his sleeve in every match, protecting the goal from every cross, every dribble, every shot like it's his only reason to live. He's smart though, and does a good job controlling his aggression intelligently. That mentality has helped SC Rinaldi survive in the Vanorian Premiere despite being pinned as strong relegation candidates in recent seasons. His heroic efforts even saw him named to the league's Best XI. Jorgensen was developed by the Real Azuris academy and broke into their starting XI at 18, anchoring a title campaign. He was subsequently named Defender of the Year. At 18. His newfound stardom didn't go unnoticed and FC Jansberg subsequently added him to their collection of Cosumarite defenders alongside countrymen Soarhaven and Svensson. He won more titles there. When he played in Cosumar, fans of rival teams cruelly called him "pizza-face" because of his bad acne, which he still bears.

RB - Tug Cooper - 23 - Image Ramusok United Image
The Ramusok United product is the latest player trying to make a smooth transition from Cosumar U21 to the senior team. A strong DBC followed by the best club season of his young career (Harlighet Ligan Best XI) saw him claim a place in Ramsey's WC 77 side, squeezing out trusted veteran Sheldon Serra for the first time in a decade. He followed it up with a positive AOCAF and another great club season and is now being backed to win the starting job from Chisenhall soon. His real name is Thon Cooper, but he was given the moniker 'Tug' by his coaches at United because of his incredible stamina (in Cosumar, long-distance racing horses are known colloquially as "tugs"). In addition to his renowned ability to run and run and never tire, Tug is a tenacious and tactically intelligent fullback versatile enough to help the team offensively and defensively. Goes forward more frequently and does so more effectively than starter Chisenhall, but hasn't always been quite as reliable defensively. Still has the occasional lapses there, though they have been minimized of late. Short and stocky with a barrel-like chest, shaggy greyish-brown hair and a smirking grin. Often cited as one of the funniest players on the team, with a clever, sarcastic persona in interviews.

CM - Denton Tapp - 27 - Image CA Paulinthal Image
Thanks to Pearce, the former Di Bradini Cup star is set to play in his very first World Cup - a reward for a fantastic career. But really, it's thanks to Tapp's own hard work. Giving up his starting role at OAS Royal after he had just helped them restore their UICA status was an ambitious risk, but his desire to challenge himself in Pasarga payed off. Alongside Ragnar Targaryen, Tapp finally made his breakthrough at Pauli two years ago. And what a breakthrough it was, as he helped CAP score the most goals in the SuperLiga as an attack-minded center mid. Initially considered mostly a holding midfield prospect with limited ability going forward, Tapp surprised onlookers by developing a propensity for making timely plays for Pauli in the opposition half. His energetic, ball-winning defensive style is still there, but he has also become a better conduit going forward, even tallying a bunch of assists and goals. A box-to-box midfielder in the truest sense of the word, as he can make the difference on both ends. Now with a clear identity and in his prime, Denton has a chance to shine back here in Ramusok.

CM - Tiffany Elam - 28 - Image Ibini FC Image
Tiffany is a true hustler in midfield - she just doesn't stop running. She's quick, pretty good at pinging the ball around, and can surge forward or make a late opportunistic run into the box... but really she relishes the unglamorous work the most. Elam won her spot in the team after a great sophomore season in the Vanorian top-flight, helping Ibini claim 2nd place and never looking back. A constant feature throughout World Cup 76, she lost her starting place in the pecking order to Stig Söderquist in the camps leading up to WC 77, but she's still an important part of the team. At age 18, Elam turned down the #1 medical school in Cosumar to pursue her soccer career, moving to Kernansquillec to join Project X. She was one of the program's first standouts, immediately being offered a contract upon graduation to join local giants Guingamp. In three seasons there, she became one of Kernansquillec's best players before moving on to Valanora. Elam was the captain of Cosumar's U21 side in two successful DBCs and transitioned seamlessly to the senior squad afterwards.

RM - Corey Simmons III - 26 - Image OAS Royal FC Image
Ah, it's good to see the famous Simmons clan in the team again. Corey III earned his first caps in WC 77, joining his father and grandfather in the annals of Dragonshirt history. Whereas both Corey Simmons Sr. and Jr. were prolific strikers (combining for 60 goals in 125 caps in ten World Cups), CS3 is more of a tricky right-footed winger. An illustrious and confident dribbler, truly filthy with the ball at his feet, but sometimes bites off more than he can chew and takes too many touches simply for the sake of showing off. Alexander Pearce will have to beat that out of him so he can be more efficient. He also needs to become a better two-way player & defender in this system. But Simmons III's skill is undoubted, and with his inherited pace and athleticism... he can be an immediate threat off the bench. There's a sense that he only just started to tap his fullest potential in his first season at OAS Royal. He's a poor shooter from distance, frankly (though he doesn't think he is), but is an excellent passer in the seams, crosser from the flanks, and penalty taker. Can act a bit of an entitled brat in the dressing room at times.

LM/AM - Mauricio Sigler - 31 - Holdenberg Image
Once a teen prodigy for the Zakhoro Aces fifteen years ago, now the caps leader on the team. He crossed the line to true stardom when he won Best Player at Cup of Harmony 64, and became a legend when he scored the stoppage time winner against Valanora to send Cosumar to its first World Cup Quarterfinals. He is the most technically-gifted player in the squad, but he can also still beat defenders with pace. He only just turned 31, after all. Sigler plays with a certain showmanship and swagger in every movement that is incredibly entertaining to watch. A versatile attacking force, he can play out wide on either side or as the central playmaker. Before becoming a featured player in Eura, Sigler played in countless Champions' Cups with Real Atlantea in Taeshan - his first move after propelling his boyhood Aces to their first ever top-half finish as a teenager. Sigler is criticized for sometimes disappearing during the less important "filler" matches of tournaments, but he always wakes up and delivers on the biggest stages.

AM - Rowan Varghese - 27 - Image Pelethas United Image
Varghese is the name people were most surprised to see on Pearce's first team sheet, with the manager picking her over established older options Jo de Marisco and Augen Wittevrongel (not to mention Sigler already on the roster) to back up Alora Heher. She brings something a bit different to the #10 position than Heher though, as a pure goalscorer from midfield a la Lampard. She doesn't quite have Heher's creativity in providing for others, but Varghese's movement is exquisite, she's pacy and she can hit the ball well. Her path to get here, her first World Cup, is an interesting one. A Pelethas homegrown product, she became the subject of out-of-control local expectations after scoring a hat trick in the King's Cup at 16. Weighed down by "club savior" proclamations, she wilted and, by 20, was glued to the bench most matches. So she went away. To Chromatika, where she played for Urrheddiao for three seasons, rebuilding her confidence and reimagining her identity as a footballer. When the Chromatik league folded, she returned to Pelethas United looking like the star she was always meant to be. Partnering with Nepharim veteran Auburn Tarrant allowed Rowan's true quality to sparkle and she scored 11 goals from midfield. Off the pitch, her hobbies include photography and ballroom dancing (which her teammates constantly ridicule her for).

ST - Airik Ruhl - 23 - Chenoworth Harriers Image
Ruhl is a monstrous forward, using his godlike body to dominate defenders, yet with a surprisingly soft touch and delicate technique for someone of his imposing physique (when he's not smashing headers). Only a year removed from the Sekundar Ligan, he led Chenoworth to the Champions' Cup last season with a stunning tally of 22 goals. Most ever by a Cosumarite in the Premiership. He now finds himself firmly in the mix for his first World Cup appearances. Maybe even starts, which he has publicly asked for. However, his commitment to the game has been questioned in the past as he sometimes seemed like he can't be arsed to give full effort for Morponte Fief and Cosumar U21. The reputation has lingered despite his work in Nephara. He's not exactly a favorite of the Cosumarite media either due to his decidedly un-Cosumarite manners and troubling criminal history, which you can read more about here.

ST - Vega Zeale-Riddick - 21 - Image Samaj FC Image
The breakout star of the most recent Härlighet Ligan season with 18 goals at midseason. The tall, spiderlike center-forward took over the starting job while still a teenager at Samaj FC and has propelled them to some lofty UICA finishes in the last couple years. The World Cup puts her squarely in the shop window for bigger clubs both in Cosumar and abroad. Along with Ruhl, VZR (yes, she's already trademarked the acronym) offers an aspect no other strikers in the pool do right now: Height and aerial prowess. Towering over other players and with springs for legs, she's a bona-fide target forward. This World Cup will be a learning experience for Zeale-Riddick more than anything, but if tactics necessitate a more direct style of play, Pearce might just call VZR's number and let the aerial bombardment begin. She's also quite nimble for her size and can score with her feet from reasonable distance.

ST - Elena Culbreth - 27 - Image Kingsgrove Image
What a year for Cosumarite strikers! Ramusok-bred Culbreth was always on the fringes of the national team as a good-but-not-exceptional striker for hometown club United, but she has utterly forced her way into the national team for the first time following a smashingly successful move to the Brenecian champions. Her ridiculous form blew away any conceivable expectations, as she averaged over a goal per game for much of the A-League season and won the golden boot at a canter. Cosumarites have always taken well to Brenecia, but her goalscoring prowess there has made Tevin Lilley's accomplishments look like bit-part player material. She's the wildcard in this World Cup striker pool. Nobody knows if her dream season was a fluke or if it will translate to the World Cup with no previous international experience. If Pearce has the guts to bring her on, who knows what she'll do? Not the fastest, not the strongest, but what Culbreth does better than almost anyone is shoot the ball. A pure finesse shooter, she can pick out the net from all kinds of distances and angles on the pitch. Prefers her left foot.

Manager: Alexander Pearce Image
Alexander Pearce, 48, is a Cosumarite legend at center back, and is now the fifth person to manage the national team and the first former player to do so. He has large legacies to live up to. Before him, Nepharim icon Gethin Ramsey held the job for five cycles and made five World Cup knockouts, also winning a Cup of Harmony. Before that, Farris Crowley held the post for nearly 40 years and took Cosumar to its first seven World Cups. What will Pearce's legacy be? Well, he's already proven to be quite gifted at building legacies. Just look at what he did in Schottia with Cornellians: overseeing the club's transition from the Multiverse Premier League to the SPL and going on to dominate that league with five consecutive titles. No one expects him to win five consecutive World Cups, but it's reasonable to expect great things. Pearce's credentials extend far beyond just being a once-great player. He possesses a well-rounded managerial skillset: studious tactical acumen, a creative eye for new talent, elegant motivational/persuasive speaking, effective organizational management and even shrewd handling of finances. Known for his ability to coordinate and guide others and command attention. He comes from a family with deep roots in the sport and takes great pride in representing his family name and his country. In his playing days, he was a rangy, mobile defender who could play in the middle or at left back. He is a club legend at OAS Royal FC, having joined upon the Härlighet Ligan's inception and playing at The Royal Palace for sixteen years, winning four titles. Afterwards, he became a player-coach in the MPL for Cornellians, which was his transition into coaching. He played in a desolate era for the Cosumar national team, but appeared in one World Cup Finals and captained the side in WC 67 and 68 Qualifying. Full bio.

Assistant Manager: Casey Brind Image
With incumbent assistant manager Kennedy Kopenhaver bolting to fill the managerial vacancy at Mallox, Alexander Pearce has decided to recruit his assistant and ex-teammate from Cornellians to the cause. Casey Brind, now 40 years old, was a well-traveled midfielder in her playing days, which weren't too long ago, including stops at Iron City, Cranequin Wanderers, Raven River, Vermillion Rage and then ending at Cornellians. Pearce and Brind are well-oiled machine, a proven good team through recent glories at Cornellians. Brind will be hoping that the success translates to the international level, inspired by helping fill the void of Nepharim legend Gethin Ramsey. Maybe this is the start of a storied international managerial career of her own.
