NEPHARA
World Ranking:
9th
Preferred Formation: 4-4-2
Style Modifier: 0
Home Stadium: The Farham Arena in Sabrefell. Capacity of 88,000, no attached club.
Kit Supplier: Kirola
Nickname: The Cormorants

Expectations are always high in Nephara these days, but things are really getting exciting in the national team's new base at Corvistone. Manager Amethyst Fegelein - yes, the one who got Starling to do all the things Starling did - is pursuing root-and-branch reform and will stop at nothing to get Nephara its second World Cup. In a good omen, it's secured a kit contract with Kirola again. This is not a golden age of Nepharim footballers and there are a few holes in the lineup that Fegelein aims to solve throughout qualifying. If a few mistakes are made along the way, so be it. Better to peak at the right time, during the tournament itself, no?

Fegelein is spreading the net wide in search of talent, and forty-six players are in contention for callups this cycle.
Core players in bold will be in most squads and are Nephara's recognised first-team.
Fringe youth players are still being blooded in the national team, and will be rotated in and out of the main squad.
Veteran players are not in the core and do not need to be blooded, but they are technically the second string. If an important match happens and a key player is suspended or injured, one of them will step up. There will be a couple in most squads.

Only the second nation in history to achieve the 'Grand Slam' of WCC titles - represented by the three stars on the crest.
Won Esportiva's first World Cup - now hoping to represent Rushmore on the world stage.

*** One per match.

Tactics
As always, the Cormorants play hard, physical and compact football on the defensive and quick, broad and ruthless on the attack, especially loving to absorb pressure and hit on the break. Set pieces are also something of a specialty, especially with Rainsford taking them. The fullbacks are expected to overlap with their wingers and provide much of the team's width. The strikers - mostly, anyway - are all very physical and very capable of finishing, pressing high as the first defenders but also striving to get on the end of chances and to finish what the midfield starts.

Staff
Manager - Amethyst Fegelein - Age 50
Assistant Manager - Michael Brandon - Age 44

Amethyst Fegelein is widely considered the finest manager in the world after close to a decade at Starling, achieving remarkable things (including a Champions' Cup which was agonisingly close to being defended the next year) with a decidedly modest squad. It's a matter of seeing if that success can be replicated. Like Shale did, she's come in promising a dynasty. Like Shale was, she is a powerful motivator with a gift for managing difficult personalities. She's a skilled tactician and a better coach, the sort of manager that can get footballers to play above themselves, and give them the will to win. Michael Brandon might well be her successor - a legendary figure for the Cormorants and Directus as a holding midfielder, Nephara's first ever player to be widely regarded as world-class, he's taken his incisive knowledge of the sport and razor-sharp intellect into coaching.

Goalkeepers
Core
1 - GK - Gideon Fletcher (Image AFC Treason, vc) - Age 30 - 22 caps, 10 clean sheets

Fringe
GK - Apostolos Tsattalios (Image Phalanx AF) - Age 26 - 20 caps, 8 clean sheets
GK - Jason Petratos (Image RGS Athletic) - Age 25 - 1 cap
GK - Andreas Swoboda (Image AFC Serpentine) - Age 25 - 1 cap, 1 clean sheet

Veteran
GK - Justinian Hargrave (Image Starling) - Age 33 - 37 caps, 12 clean sheets

Gideon Fletcher has replaced Diandra Ballard at both club and country level, a world-class goalkeeper whose focus is simply on, well, Not Conceding goals. Tsattalios is far more modern, a genuine sweeper with fantastic distribution, but his erratic shot-stopping punished the Cormorants once too often and he lost his place. He's regained consistency and now seems like the natural backup. Swoboda and Petratos are bolters into past squads, reflex stoppers getting the nod for their drive and ambition. They are... very similar. Hell, they're even both Laithlanders. Hargrave is a former number 1 for Nephara in his own right, and deserves to be shuffled back into the pack.

Defenders
Core
2 - RB - Leona Rafford (Image Crisisbless) - Age 23 - 14 caps, 2 goals
3 - LB - Sieglinde Lohengrin (Image Crisisbless) - Age 25 - 38 caps, 1 goal
5 - CB - Dieter Konoval (Image KT Moreazerua) - Age 26 - 36 caps
6 - CB - Malachite Scharner (Image Jungle Strike) - Age 29 - 85 caps, 4 goals

Fringe
RB/CB - Danijel Brymora (Image Brinemouth) - Age 24 - 3 caps
CB - Diedrich Frostmarris (Image Molsbik Arkjet) - Age 28 - 36 caps, 2 goals
CB - Trajan Bruyne (Image Mallox) - Age 26 - 7 caps
CB - Sigrun Rathskeller (Image AC Holmenkollen) - Age 25 - Uncapped
LB - Isidra Jeurissen (Image Coret Hawks) - Age 23 - 10 caps
LB - Lux Vicelich (Image Sabrefell Moths) - Age 21 - Uncapped

Veteran
RB/LB - Scylla Vyntra (Image AFC Treason) - Age 30 - 94 caps, 5 goals
RB - Mirko Koehler (Image Starling) - Age 27 - 20 caps, 1 goal
CB - Kieran Ritter (Image Bastion) - Age 33 - 43 caps, 2 goals
CB - Calliope Katskalidis (Image AFC Treason) - Age 32 - 111 caps, 7 goals
LB - Hyacinth Surman (Image Starling) - Age 27 - 16 caps, 1 goal

Konoval and Scharner form the core of the Nepharim defence this cycle - Konoval excelled in the Copa Rushmori while Scharner was a World Cup winner. Both are physical, intelligent and quick on their feet. But it's pretty much open as to who will back them up - Frostmarris has a proven record for the Cormorants while Cosumar-based Bruyne and Rathskeller do not, and the aging Ritter and Katskalidis remain waiting faithfully in reserve. Rafford and Lohengrin are young attacking fullbacks in the traditional Nepharim mould, but Fegelein's chosen backups are largely more conservative - Koehler and Surman were her more defensive personnel at Starling, while Vyntra's versatility and experience count in her favour. Jeurissen, Brymora and Vicelich, by contrast, are young and raw, and certainly worth blooding throughout the qualifiers.

Midfielders
Core
4 - HM - Tanith Rainsford (Image Mâ Âlâmëómë, c) - Age 32 - 116 caps, 7 goals
7 - RM - Adnan Szalai (Image Ulsa) - Age 28 - 85 caps, 24 goals
8 - CM - Vedran Tarashaj (Image AFC Treason) - Age 25 - 21 caps, 5 goals
11 - LM - Raquel Naeher (Image Cartagena Desert Foxes) - Age 26 - 30 caps, 3 goals

Fringe
RM - Andrea Bereveskos (Image Sabrefell Athletic) - Age 25 - 15 caps, 3 goals
RM - Ishtar Fanaiyan (Image AFC Serpentine) - Age 20 - Uncapped
HM - Helmut Chilmark (Image Duke of the North) - Age 26 - 33 caps
HM - Gudrun Crowley (Image Pelethas United) - Age 25 - 3 caps
HM - Servet Misidjan (Image AFC Treason) - Age 22 - Uncapped
CM - Jade Irwin (Image Cornellians) - Age 27 - 3 caps
CM - Konrad Gosforth (Image Mâ Âlâmëómë) - Age 26 - 30 caps, 6 goals
CM - Ursula Rowan (Image Cassandra City) - Age 25 - 6 caps, 1 goal
LM - Elsa Kaelin (Image Starling) - Age 23 - 4 caps
LM - Rowena Strongbow (Image Cranequin Wanderers) - Age 20 - Uncapped

Veteran
RM - Mariska Woodspur (Image AFC Treason) - Age 28 - 26 caps, 4 goals
CM/HM - Marijana Kuralay (Image Brinemouth) - Age 31 - 29 caps, 2 goals
LM - Lienke Vesper (Image AFC Treason) - Age 30 - 73 caps, 11 goals

Nephara's first-choice midfield is almost undoubted by this stage. Tarashaj's pure physicality and the calm touch of the captain Rainsford in the centre, the world-class swashbuckler Szalai on the right wing, the stocky, punchy underdog Naeher takes the left. Bereveskos more than proved her worth in the Copa Rushmori as a beautifully incisive winger, and the more orthodox Woodspur awaits in reserve - the World Cup comes too soon for the young street-fighter Fanaiyan. The muscular Chilmark and the more elegant Crowley will battle out the job of backing Rainsford up, but stranger things have happened than Misidjan, a rotational starter for Treason at a young age, getting the nod. Gosforth is a hard-running complete midfielder, Irwin largely in the same mould, while Rowan is perhaps more balanced. Elsa Kaelin failed to convince in the Copa and that leaves her open to being overtaken by breakthrough star Rowena Strongbow - but if neither of them are up to it, World Cup winner Lienke Vesper awaits in reserve, as does fellow champion Marijana Kuralay, a very versatile player.

Core
9 - ST - Estrella Hawke (Image Starling) - Age 22 - 24 caps, 12 goals
17 - ST - Dragan Stavanger (Image Tannenberg FC) - Age 25 - 27 caps, 11 goals
21 - ST - Penumbra Amokachi (Image Eastweald, vc) - Age 29 - 96 caps, 56 goals

Fringe
ST - Avila Wardenier (Image Sabrefell Athletic) - Age 27 - 7 caps, 2 goals
ST - Erik Marlowe (Image Florence Boldclub) - Age 24 - Uncapped
ST - Methuselah Tregajorran (Image Crisisbless) - Age 22 - 3 caps
ST - Nevaeh Cathar (Image Avenida Leal) - Age 22 - 5 caps, 2 goals

Veteran
ST - Theodora Covenant (Image Shanak FC) - Age 32 - 53 caps, 26 goals
ST - Igrene Cantor (Image AFC Treason) - Age 30 - 29 caps, 12 goals

The strikeforce isn't quite set in stone for Nephara, but the foundations are pretty clear. Self-styled philosopher-queen Penumbra Amokachi will start up front accompanied either by the hulking Stavanger or the quick, decisive Hawke. The two forwards had contrasting fortunes in the Copa Rushmori (Amokachi was rested for it), with Stavanger turning his prospects around and winning a move to Valladares while Hawke failed to score a goal. A recall for Theodora Covenant is in the cards as a more versatile, fluid supporting striker, and the younger, more prolific Avila Wardenier will battle for her place. Nevaeh Cathar, daughter of Rook, is quick and ruthless. Marlowe and Tregajorran are both physical powerhouses - Marlowe the first ever Nepharim callup from the Boney league, Tregajorran the son of Tolgus. Igrene Cantor is likely to win a place in the final squad based on the thunderous power of her left boot alone, and she's been in an improbable number of squads yet has never regularly started.

BRENECIA
World Ranking:
19th
Preferred Formation: 4-2-3-1
Backup Formations: 4-1-4-1, 4-3-3, 4-4-2
Style Modifier: -1.25
Home Stadium: Kingsgarden - a 58,000 all-seater in the capital of Rozelle.
Kit Supplier: JMC
Nickname: the Patriots

Brenecia are back in the ascendancy. Relatively. The days where a quick, surprisingly beautiful side played piercing attacking football are over. The Golden Generation is done. Today's Brenecia are dour, disciplined, hard-nosed and physical, a mix of the greying old guard and rough A-League diamonds. In a time of flux, Bardsley has opted to cast the net wide in search of the right stuff. Her second tenure has been marked by a distinct upturn in results, and a regional championship has given rise to a very unBrenecian optimism. An immediate return to the World Cup is the minimum expectation - if and when they get there, then they'll talk about surprising people.

First Team and Tactics
Image
Surprisingly to most, Bardsley's tactics are more defensive in her return to the national side - just like the Patriots were before the cultural revolution that Bardsley herself started, first with Kingsgrove and then with Brenecia themselves. The spine is extremely strong - Duguid and Scrivener very solid but kind of slow, covered by world-class holding midfielder Gryphon and the box-to-box energy of Skorupska. Two attack-minded fullbacks alternate turns to charge forward while the other hands back. Carroll is a creative force on the left, Bowditch a forceful charger down the right and Balliol will be given a lot of license to hang forward and make use of his ability to strike powerful long shots. Ursula Rankin runs a lot and presses defences, but she's chiefly here to score goals.

Image
When Brenecia leads in the closing stage - or even from the outset against a stronger side - they switch to become even more defensive, relying on a very conservative central midfield to shield the defence, locking the fullbacks into defensive roles and all-but isolating Rankin up front, save Bowditch's runs and Carroll's passes.

Staff
Manager - Catherine Bardsley - Age 56
Asst. Manager - Colm Beckwith - Age 42

Catherine Bardsley revolutionised the A-League and then the Patriots with her template of attacking, pace-centric football, and now she's back. Admittedly a stint with Sameba's national team went horribly, horribly wrong - she was fired for poor performances and remained a political prisoner as hostilities ramped up between Sameba and Eura, culminating in war. She's back, now, and it feels good to see her back at the helm... but she's not quite the same, is she? Fiona Sylver has left to manage Rosbank Town in the A-League, and the highly-regarded Colm Beckwith has stepped up from the youth management ranks to take her place.

Goalkeepers
Core
1 - GK - Mathis Woodgate (Image Myrmidon) - Age 30 - 123 caps, 44 clean sheets
A world-class shot-stopper, reliable and solid. Has had something of a nomadic club career, playing in four nations, but his class has never been in doubt.

12 - GK - Geneva Urquhart (Image Olympia FC) - Age 35 - 55 caps, 23 clean sheets
An experienced, solid presence between the posts. A safe pair of hands but also seen as a steady dressing-room presence.

20 - GK - Rostyn Calhoun (Image Cenial United) - Age 23 - 7 caps, 5 clean sheets
Still young, still raw, and prone to the occasional howler. On the whole, though, he's a big, acrobatic lad and impressed during qualifying.

Defenders
2 - RB - Czeslawa Szukala (Image Phalanx AF) - Age 27 - 87 caps, 2 goals
A nimble, quick-footed attacking fullback, who sometimes leaves herself open to moments of lax concentration.

3 - LB - Ophelia Lovelock (Image Sabrefell Athletic) - Age 28 - 86 caps, 8 goals
Sharp and constantly running forward on the overlap, Lovelock is one of the game's premier attacking fullbacks. Lethal with a cross, and entirely two-footed.

5 - CB - Anaximander Scrivener (Image Brigham, vc) - Age 32 - 110 caps, 6 goals
A big, commanding presence, Scrivener is the lovechild between shouting and a brick wall. Indomitable in the air, and nigh-impossible to outmuscle.

6 - CB - Niko Szubanski (Image Rozelle) - Age 26 - 18 caps, 1 goal
Poor with the ball at his feet, Szubanski's main asset is his physicality. Not just tall and strong, but fast for a centre-half, with a penchant for sliding challenges.

18 - RB - Brun Carrack (Image Lotus Park) - Age 23 - 10 caps
Elegant and willowy, Carrack's a defender first and foremost. Good all around, but her anticipation usually puts her in the right place at the right time.

19 - LB - Gethin Quill (Image Revolutionaries) - Age 22 - 9 caps
Short and stocky, Quill's a quick, powerful runner and isn't afraid to show a little muscle defending his corner. A dirty street-fighter with the technique to back it.

22 - CB - Rostyn Bradden (Image Lajuno) - Age 31 - 86 caps, 6 goals
A big, slow, amiable sort. Rock-solid at the back, and while his lack of pace can leave him exposed, he more than gets the job done.

Midfielders
4 - HM - Catherine Gryphon (Image Starling, c) - Age 29 - 118 caps, 1 goal
A former BoldSport Galactico, Gryphon is Brenecia's one genuinely world-class player. A gifted intellect who dictates the tempo, just by doing the simple things right. A set piece specialist, on top of that.

7 - RAM - Squire Trevelyan (Image FC Jansberg) - Age 29 - 104 caps, 37 goals
A big, bruising winger, Trevelyan isn't a subtle player. He charges forward in diagonal lines, smashes through defences and scores or sets things up.

8 - CM - Aleksandra Skorupska (Image Trothwands Evolution) - Age 28 - 85 caps, 21 goals
A jack of all trades, most comfortable playing box-to-box. Has a knack for being in the right place at the right time, and her lungs seem limitless.

10 - LAM - Roisin Carroll (Image Violence Chariots) - Age 29 - 103 caps, 19 goals
A delicate touch on the ball, Carroll always looks for the assist rather than going for goal herself, arguably to a fault. Can play quick and orthodox, but can slow the tempo and dictate the play when needed.

11 - AM - Sander Balliol (Image Tanrisal) - Age 27 - 56 caps, 17 goals
Full name: Alexsandr van Sorensen Balliol. He isn't, unsurprisingly, anywhere near as good, but he's thrived given space and trust as the side's playmaker. Boasts a fine shot, too.

13 - LAM - Keohane (Image Ramusok United) - Age 25 - 23 caps, 6 goals
Essentially a Sunrise Islander, Keohane is an improvisational street footballer. She's small and can drift out of games, but on her day she offers something unlike any of her countrymen.

15 - RAM - Brae Crowther (Image Kingsgrove) - Age 20 - 3 caps, 1 goal
A surprising late call-up. Crowther is lightning-quick and cocky to a fault, always trying to make the difference on her own, and needs to be knocked down a peg.

16 - CM/AM - Elsie Drover (Image OAS Royal FC) - Age 26 - 64 caps, 14 goals
Drover has really come into her own over qualifying. Versatile and athletic, she always finds herself at the heart of things and always makes a difference.

21 - CM/CAM - Meghan Hartsdown (Image King's Park) - Age 22 - 9 caps, 1 goal
A tall, elegant playmaker-in-making, with a strong sense of team spirit and an optimistic nature lending itself to spraying Hollywood passes down the flanks.

23 - HM - Catsidhe Alweather (Image Marque) - Age 21 - 11 caps
A surprising late bolter. Alweather is somewhat helter-skelter in style and is a very unclean tackler, and yet she's always there to make the tackle. Needs time to gain composure.

Forwards
9 - ST - Ursula Rankin (Image Tanrisal) - Age 32 - 117 caps, 66 goals
Short, stocky and utterly fearless, Rankin is a pure finisher. She's slowed down of late, and will play more of an impact substitute role at present, but she's unmatched when it comes to finding the net.

14 - ST - Fionn Lynch (Image SC Rinaldi) - Age 28 - 36 caps, 16 goals
Tall, lanky and vaguely graceless, Lynch is an erratic finisher with a poor first touch. And yet, he always seems to get himself on the end of chances, and sometimes even puts them away.

17 - ST - Aelfwynn Bannion (Image North Hall) - Age 25 - 12 caps, 5 goals
Not a naturally gifted player by any means, Bannion is a big, combative striker who gets her elbows in peoples' faces and really scraps with defenders.

Qasden @ WC78 Qualifiers
Image

In their 2nd cycle of World Cup football, Coach Merritt and the Qasden Vans took their chances and rolled the dice once more to reach the finals, held in San Jose Guyabal and Royal Kingdom of Quebec. Drawn into group 3, TQ battled some prominent names of the recent seasons, such as Valladares, Semarland, and even Baptism of Fire 64 champions, Amnarei-asud. After some tough battles, big wins, and embarrassing defeats, Qasden came up short at qualifying, finishing fourth out of ten.

Despite the initial sadness, the Qads still managed to qualify for Cup of Harmony 69, nicknamed "Costhane" after hosts, Cosumar and Ethane. Finishing second in their group, the Blue-Reds began an unexpected trail of close shaves and shocking victories, including PK wins over Boring Paradise and Turori. In the finals, already an astonishing feat, Qasden's cinderella story was complete after a narrow win over Barunia in penalties. The title sent massive waves across the sporting multiverse, stunning legends as they witnessed the silver star being added above the 2-cycle old crest. It even encouraged other Qad forces to perform better, such as the Qasden Handball team, who went for their second consecutive 3rd-place finish in Soltsteed, and Ty Kanelious, who became the first Qad to ever win an NSTT tournament. At AOCAF 53 in Chromatika, TQ made it past the group stage after 3 attempts, making it to the play-ins before being defeated by Farfadillis.

With Valentijn Munson joining the NT squad and more and more players travelling abroad, hopes are high in Azeuria as the Qads look to make their proper debut in the WC. Will Qasden succeed with their hopes? Will Coach Merritt survive another heated qualifier without the threat of being fired? Is it possible for the Blue-Reds to win back-to-back Cup of Harmonies? The sky flies high tonight, and so will the Vans as they embark on their journey to World Cup 78, hosted in Bonesea and Cosumar!

Here is the Gregoryisgodistan soccer team's roster. Our team is nicknamed the Foot Slaves. Our style modifier is -5

Head Coach: Secret Police Agent Dominic Button
Assistant Coaches: Slave Beater 8AUSUJA and Horse Beater LOICHESDRACKX394EUD

Gregoryisgodistani names have the title first, which is usually whatever job they have. Then comes either the government ID sequence (for commoners) or the name (for government VIP's.) If that is the same, they are the same person even if the title is different. However, government VIPs can change their name whenever they want.

All players play domestically in the Gregoryisgodistan Soccer League except as noted. Only government VIPs are permitted to play club soccer outside Gregoryisgodistan. All clubs are accurate as of the last UICA cycle.

Lineup:

GK Prune Farmer 3818F - Prune Farmers FC (Age 23)
DL Police Agent Jorge Warlord - FC 17 June (Age 30)
DC Enemy Crusher Fatty Footy - AC Enemy Crushers (Age 25)

DC Police Officer YSHERKOW91239 - Police Squad (Age 28)
DR Slave Beater YUSEAXA - FC 17 June (Age 25)
ML Clown 88ASDICNEBEEBEE - FC 17 June (Age 23)
ML/MR Anti-Tennis Ball Joke Enforcement Officer PLUTNEPOOTEN92POOT - Police Squad (Age 24)
MC/OMC/DMC Slave Beater SUAXMC91 - FC 17 June (Age 27)
FW Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Robert Possibe - Real Campo Grande (Valladares) (Age 28)
FW Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Death To Dumpy O'Rumpy And His Spectacularly Hideous Hair (Age 18)

Notes: As part of an effort to have all citizens identify with Lord Almighty Gregory, the Gregoryisgodistani government eliminated birthdays except for Lord Almighty Gregory's, and all citizens saw their ages increase on June 1, the Gregoryisgodistani New Year.... Lord Almighty Gregory's Birthday is June 17. All citizens must give him a present. As a result, the age of all players increased by one year between World Cup 77 and World Cup 78.... The tennis ball joke is a sexual joke and as a result, is banned in Gregoryisgodistan like all sexual jokes. Telling it is punishable by dickapitation, castration, and execution by the Brownie Cutter of Death. The teller's family will be executed too unless they're the ones who turned him in.... Due to the spontaneous combustion of Libertad Sportswear, Gregoryisgodistan will has new uniforms, created by Meski.

Home games will be played at Lord Almighty Gregory National Stadium, the newly rebuilt national stadium in Capital District. It was rebuilt following the Wolfopian terrorist attack (OOC: a false flag by Gregoryisgodistan's government) and seats 175,617. It is a guaranteed sellout for every game since people will be forced to attend if it does not sell out.

Image

These crimes are punishable by death in Gregoryisgodistan. While we are somewhat more lenient for foreigners, if you flagrantly violate them while in Gregoryisgodistan you will be punished severely. Probably fatally. So don't do it. As an example of what is flagrant and what isn't, farting quietly or privately will be overlooked if you are a foreigner, but holding a "Who can have the smelliest fart" contest in public like Howard Stern will get all the farters executed.

RP Permissions: Basically, do whatever you want but expect reciprocation. If you card my players, I'll card yours. If you kill my players, I'll kill yours. Just don't kill Lord Almighty Gregory, our head of state and alleged deity. Also, if you are going to refer to my nation by a different name for IC reasons (like Gregoryisnotgodistan) please either TG me or leave an OOC note saying you are referring to Gregoryisgodistan. I frequently search for mentions of my nation, but if it's not mentioned by name, that doesn't help. So either mention it by name in an OOC note or TG me to give me a heads up. You don't need to wait for permission with the TG, but please send it so I can respond to the RP. Also, striking out the "isgod" part (as in Gregoryisgodistan) causes it to not show up on the search, so this will not fulfill the notification requirement. However, feel free to use that style as long as you either mention me by name without the strikethrough in the same post or TG me to let me know about the post. And don't flagrantly violate the laws of Gregoryisgodistan while in Gregoryisgodistan and expect to get away with it. Taunting us with chants of "coconut" or shirtless fans while we are playing away or at neutral sites is fine and encouraged, but if you try it in Gregoryisgodistan, those fans are probably going to die. Painfully. Which is fine by me if it’s OK with you. TG me if you have questions as to what is flagrant and what isn’t. Also, no completely unrealistic scoring events such as 80 meter goals.

Spaamanian World Cup 78 Roster

Postby Spaam » Wed Jun 14, 2017 5:21 pm

Image

The great nation of Spaam was a Football powerhouse in the early years of the World Cup, finishing second twice. However, a catastrophic war destroyed the once gargantuan empire, and the Spaam of old was no more... or so people thought. While the population is now measured in just millions instead of billions, the small Disunited Kingdom of Spaam has slowly been rebuilding, and attempted to qualify for the last World Cup for the first time in 180 years. To everyone's surprise, they were successful, taking down many more highly fancied opponents, and setting Spaam back on the track to the ultimate sporting prize. Will they again come from behind and prove that they are a force to be reckoned with, or will they finally get the chance to win the Cup of Harmony? Only time will tell...

Image

Roster

Coach
Hewelan Faaberos (54) [North Paatukar]
Hewelan is widely regarded as the best coach in Spaam and has earned accolades through the multiverse thanks to his leading the national team to World Cup qualification for the first time in almost 200 years. He has been coach of North Paatukar for almost 20 years, one of the top teams in National League history, and has led them to five titles and seven second-places. Hewelan's style is defensive strength through the midfield, while letting his star forwards latitude to shine, and he works closely with his North Paatukar goalkeeper Oridul Inasys.
Image

Forwards
7. Merlara Sehelin (21) [Nilmenas City]
Spaam's leading goal scorer, at both the national and international levels, she is a descendant of ancient Spaamanian great Mela Sehelin. Through her skills, she has led Nilmenas City to the top two position four seasons in a row, finally earning their maiden title in Season 53. She is also captain of the U21 team, which she led to the Round of 16 in the latest Di Bradini Cup. A natural talent, she is just a likely to pass the ball as to shoot for goal, but she is a master of placement, getting herself into the perfect position to score more often than not. As she has mostly Elven heritage, she will likely be in the team for a long time to come.

17. Kian Rose (25) [Highbay City]
East Spaam's top player, Kian plays second fiddle to Merlara but is widely regarded as the best assist in the nation. He tends to play on the right wing, and has a fantastic cross, especially on set plays.

12. Saldiane Helemar (28) [Paatukar United]
Saldiane was the top mainland striker in the latest National League season, and usually plays as reserve for Sehelin or the left wing. She has a tendency not to shoot until she is in close range and will use her footwork to put herself into the mix as much as possible.

13. Rogdorr Kelphine (19) [South Taabeka]
Rogdorr is an up and coming striker, playing for the U21 team as well as recently relegated South Taabeka. He is positioned as an understudy right-wing to Rose.

4. Urk
Urk is a Giant Zucchini. Football historians would recognise that 300 years ago, one of the best strikers in the multiverse was a Giant Zucchini from the nation of Giant Zucchini called Urk. It would seem to be the same player, but how could that be?

12.4. Alan Belmore
Alan Belmore seems to the same striker that played almost 300 years ago. Can he really be the same one?

13. Syku Lyku
Syku Lyku seems to be the Rejistanian forward that won the World Cup almost 300 years ago. He has taken the place of Rogdorr Kelphine.

Midfielders
2. Thalia Fenzana {Vice-Captain} (35) [Paatukar Elven]
Vice-Captain Thalia is one of the veterans of the sport, and is widely regarded by the Elven constituents of the team. She controls the forward line, moving her troops into position in attack and is the front line of defense. A strong player, she is not afraid to put her body on the line.

3. Sebastián Núñez (32) [Nilmenas City]
Sebastián is one of three ex-San José Guayabal players that settled in West Spaam as refugees. With vast experience at the top level of international football, he is rock steady in both attack and defense. This will probably be his last World Cup campaign and first in Spaamanian colours, so he is looking to go out on a high.

15 & 16. Briddara & Gibelar Ralora (25) [Paatukar City]
Midfield twins Briddara and Gibelar are the centre of the team, controlling the left and right wings respectively. They are fast, strong and totally in-sync, and are the most repsonsible for moving the ball from one side of the field to the other. Briddara is slightly faster and is better at moving the ball down the field, while her brother Gibelar is stronger and will stop the ball coming down his side.

11. Malrissa Aadan (28) [Skaganes City]
Malrissa is a canny midfielder from the south of the nation, and usually plays forward midfield or left wing. She is known for her footwork but is hesitant to go hard in for the tackle.

18. Takilia Mialee (20) [Port Paatukar]
This is U21 midfield star Takilia's first World Cup campaign, but she is eager to make an impact off the bench. She is lightning fast and plays down the centre spine, putting her body in line wherever she can.

19. Dorrak Vallen (22) [Kurelin City]
Dorrak is a strong midfielder who is not afraid to go for the tackle or bump his opponents out of the way. He usually plays back midfield or right wing.

Defenders
5. Farlinar Reyen {Captain} (30) [Skaganes City]
Farlinar got his dream when he captained Spaam in World Cup football in the last competition, and will be looking forward to go deeper in what may be his last campaign. He controls the defensive side of the team and is the last line of defense before the keeper. With great vision, he knows where to place his players to the best effect, and can be heard shouting his order with a booming voice.

6 & 7. James Moreira (31) & Daniel Côçô (32) [Nilmenas City]
James and Daniel are the two San José Guayabal defenders that made the move to Spaam after the last World Cup. Looking to be one of the few people to represent two different nations at the World Cup, James and Daniel protect the left and right flanks in the defensive line. Their top level experience has proven to be invaluable to the team, and they have been mentoring the next generation of defenders to come through the system.

9. Rawesin Holamora (29) [Vilsalu]
Rawesin is a great utility defender, able to play in any position. Coming from the Nebula Mountains, there are rumours he is part Wizard.

14. Norsianna Ilirith (26) [Lake Galaxy]
With many defenders playing their last World Cup, Norsianna is regarded as a future leader in the transition between generations. She has been mentored by cross-town rival Farlinar Reyen to replace him when he retires.
Image

Goalkeepers
10. Oridul Inasys (28) [North Paatukar]
Arguably the best keeper in Spaam, he has done his nation proud through his quick reflexes. Coming up against some of the best strikers in the world, they will need to put the ball out of his reach if they are to score against them.

1. Eletha Gilhana (41) [Nilmenas Elven]
Eletha is the oldest member of the team, and the most experienced, having represented her club since before Merlara Sehelin was born. The mother of the team, she keeps them together, but it also a very canny keeper who seems to almost read minds.]

About Spaam

Image

The Disunited Kingdom of Spaam is really the remnants of a much larger nation that existed hundreds of years ago, that was destroyed by a long war. Now, a nation of around 13 million people, it has a proud sporting culture, massive mining communities and a multicultural population. Spaam is made up of three islands - the main island, commonly just called Spaam, is home of the majority of the population, and is bisected by a large mountain range going from South-West to North East. The other two islands are West Spaam, which lies to the West and South, and is known for its large elven population and Guayabalanese refugees, and East Spaam, which is known for its maritime pursuits and its focus on religion.

Paatukar is the capital of Spaam and its largest city, with over four million people calling it home. Situated on an isthmus, it has a large harbour to the East and a busy port to the west, and will be the first port of call for most people, whether they are coming in by boat or flying into Paatukar International Airport to the North of the city. A multicultural hub, it was first settled just over a hundred years ago, and has grown in a rather organic manner. There a number of older buildings in the middle of the city, near Paatukar Football Stadium, including the Royal Palace and the Parliament House. Moving out of the centre, the buildings and homes become newer, with the exception of Port Paatukar, which is an industrial area, and Paatukar Harbour, which has a number of opulent mansions owned by mining magnates and relatives of the Royal Family.

Where to stay: There are many hotels, most of which cater to international guests. The best and newest hotel is the Queen Oruzaadov Hotel, named after the late monarch, known for its opulent decoration and decadent restaurants.

What to see: The Royal Palace, home to the monarchy of the Disunited Kingdom of Spaam, the Spaamanian Parliament Building, Paatukar Harbour, and the Temple of Margaret, are all the best known sites in Paatukar. There is no lack to entertainment and sights in the heart of the nation.

What to eat: Paatukar is known for his multicultural and cosmopolitan cuisine. The Night Markets has food from all over the multiverse, served to you in street stalls from passionate cooks. The biggest hotels hold the best restaurants, each one specialising in a cuisine from another nation. The national dish and specialty of Paatukar is, however, waffles on waffles, which you can get at any local dining hall.

Islana Lunigo, a happy little island of 5,500, resides itself within the eastern depths of Esportiva, the mightiest region of modern NSS. Allying itself as the right-hand nation to the magnificent Qasden, the community boasts itself on having one of the happiest citizen rates of the Qailpyme Orginization.

Every year, the capital city of Moaria is flocked frequently by lovely ignorant tourists for their star-stunning beaches and spectacular cuisine, not to mention an extensive list of aquatic recreation centers. On the far side of the island, rural sprawls of luscious rain forests and water falls fill the void uninhabited by the native Lunigans, whom are of the only few peoples allowed south of the center mountain, Mt. Sutu. Like its cat-loving companion, Islana culture enjoys the partaking in various sports, including (but not limited to) beach soccer, archery, tennis, volleyball, and even baseball. Internationally, Islana made its greatest prominences in the World Baseball Classic and Beach Soccer World Cup. While terrible at the multiversal scale, Islana baseball had participated in approximately 3 tournaments, more than many other Qailpyme teams in any tournament. At the 12th Beach Soccer World Cup, the Dragonites managed to reach the semifinals before balling out to the fiery San Jose Guayabal team.

But sand isn't the only flooring where Islana plays the beautiful game on. The island is home to Moaria FC, an association football club currently partaking in Qasden's tier-2 league, FP League. The national team itself has made its way to 2 appearances at Campionato Esportiva, both ending miserably. After much debate prior to the unveiling of the 78th cycle, the Qailpyme Orginization Department of Athletics announced plans for the island's team to join the Vans on the bigger playing field, aka, the World Cup Qualifiers, for a chance to travel to Cosumar and/or Bonesea for the proper. More importantly for Lunigo is the Baptism of Fire, the same competition that Qasden placed 4th in not too long ago ('63). In Skaganes, Spaam, the Islana squad took on Kecrazia, San Regada, and Allahakbarium in the group stages with only one idea in mind, to win. Unfortunately, that idea was quickly murdered, as within those 3 games, the Lunigans failed to surpass the Regadans, eliminating them before the fun even started. Enraged, Kopur and the Dragonites travel back home as they prepare for an onslaught of opponents in the WC qualifiers. With Spaam and Drawkland qualifying right away, could Islana be the next to be straight outta BoF?

For the duration of the World Cup 78 Qualifiers, matches held on the island will be played at the Grand Westportiva Park in Moaria. GWP, named by a local of West Moaria despite Islana being on the east side of the region, is the main tenant stadium of Moaria FC, Islana's sole club in the Qasdonian league. With a maxcap of 50,500, the park holds several amenities, inside and out. Inside, multiple concessions and a few restaurants stand, including big local names like Orico's Deli and White Dragonite. In the parking lot, it is almost commonplace for at least 10 tailgates to be there. Wex Street, an area known for its plentiful variety of shops, is only a 4 kilometer walk from the stadia, while the harbor is about 8.

Choose my goalscorers Y, but try to keep them in the chosen 16
Godmod scoring events Y, but not too ridiculous
RP injuries to my players Y, but not to serious
Godmod injuries to my players Y, but please don't cripple them
Hand out yellow cards to my players Y, but not excessively
Hand out red cards to my players Y, but not too often
Godmod other events Y, make it funny. As you may have notice Kalumba has a wee bit of a hooligan problem so feel free to mention that

And the team:

Manager: Terence Ottbourne - Kalumban hero, was hugely influential in the Baptism of Fire 43 victory where his goalkeeping kept us in many a game and went so far as to win us others. His retirement left a hole which has still to be filled. He is still relatively new to the managerial position having worked as a first team coach with a few Kalumban sides and led the national side in the last qualifying campaign. After a decent showing led to Kalumba being ranked 107th in the world, only 25 places behind our all time best position, one would hope he will take the side to a new high over the next few years.

First Team Coach: Magnus Malan- Led the team throughout the last World Cup without much success but he did record a notable victory against highly rated Newmanistan, and suffered only narrow defeats to teams in the top 25 in the world. Very defensive minded and his approach led the team to be nicknamed 'The Tortoises'.

Goalkeepers:
Ulusu Mtanda-No.1 23 year old novice, looking to make his debut this time out. Part of the Kahali Spears team which is taking the Kalumban League by storm, and holds a new clean sheet record after going 14 games unbeaten this season.
Frank Burnden-No.67 42 year old veteran keeper, useful back up option. Will not expect to start but will most probably be on the bench to cover for the young keeper in case of injury.
Peter Franks-No.41 23 year old rookie, first selection for the team. Missed out on going to the Di Bradini cup by 2 months, so will be hoping to play a few games to secure his position as long term successor to Ottbourne and to unseat Mtanda. May play in less crucial group games or when Kalumba are knocked out. Still strugging to fulfill his early potential.

Defenders:
LB-Derek Ward, 29 year old truck driver, stupid but effective No. 12 Recently banned from driving for Drink-Driving, will be hoping to secure a place at a foreign club team to provide him with an income.
LCB-Vincent Mkure, 19 year old, member of the Kahali Spears No. 14 Built like the proverbial ox this young man has a long career ahead of him at the heart of Kalumba's defence. And such is his maturity he is already being spoken of as a future captain.
LCB-Duncan Edward, 28 year old, pretty boy, but solid at the back No. 4 A true rock and Kalumba's second most capped player since his debut in BoF 43 will be hoping to return Kalumba to the heights she once achieve.
RCB-Kaneu Daima, 22 year old, 6 foot 9, deadly in the air No. 6 Last minute inclusion ahead of the injured Von Harniggen, but his displays for Kahali this season warrant an inclusion anyway.
RCB-Norman Baker, 28 year old bank manager, great slide tackler No. 5 Castigated in the news for losing his bank a large amount of money speculating on the stock market, will try to rebuild his reputation.
RB-James Downs, 39 year old ex-rugpy prop forward, solid but no agility whatsoever No. 3 Recently dropped from his Rugby team so is looking to football for his wage.
RB-Frank Ruyten, 23 year old civil servant, very fast but poor crossing ability No. 19 Has worked on his crossing but still struggles to fulfill his promise as an attacking fullback.

Midfielders:
LM-Peter Kurtz, 25 year old full time proffesional footballer No. 21 Still struggling for form but has improved at the World Cup scoring twice and creating another couple for Kalumba.
LM-James Fish, 19 year old protege No. 9 Still a protege, retained for the first team instead of the U21s so Davies clearly intends to play him.
CM-Ollie Roberts, 27 year old model and dancing champion No. 18 First high profile homosexual in Kalumba. Has moved to Southern Cynocephali to play professionally and be open with his sexuality.
CM-Gabriel Danukwe, 20 year old Kahali Spears strong man No. 16 An old fashioned enforcer, Danukwe will have to watch his discipline.
CM -Laurence Kabila, 20 year old Kahali Spears creative midfielder No. 15 Picked up 23 assists this season and is seen as a major part of the future of Kalumban football.
CAM -Ben Cheeter, 23 built like an arab donkey but with the shot of an angry mule No. 27 Didn't impress at either the BoF or the last WC but still integral to the team as he links the midfield to the strikers.
CDM- Godwin Kuli, 19 year old sweeper for Kahali Spears No. 17 Despite the unfashionability of the position this young man has played it with aplomb and will hope to reproduce such form for the national side.
RM-Jameson Slutei, 23 year old and rapid No. 33 Lucky to get in the team, but an injury to Abouto left the position open and Slutei will look to make it his own.
RW-Jermaine Filks, 33 year old great crosser of the ball No. 11 Due to Abouto's excellence has yet to feature but has worked on his left sided play in hope of getting a starting position.

Strikers:
RS- Roland Grezlak, 28 year old, 6 foot strong as an ox No. 8 Came on to score many a crucial goal, will be looking for me involvment this time round.
RS- Anthony Peters, 23 year old, youngster but top scorer last season No. 99 Barely featured but did score our second goal in the BoF final. Will be looking to break into the team on a regular basis.
LS-Piet Von Kruger, 21 year old, second striker for Kahali spears No. 21 An excellent partner for Watusi, if they can recreate their club form they will be a feature for years to come in the Kalumban national team.
CF- Peterson Watusi, 17 year old, 20 goal hero for Kahali Spears No. 10 His goals have won him the place of veteran Kevin Davis, it is hoped the pressure won't overwhelm the young man.
CF- Craig Garden, 28 year old, reliable but not much skill No. 93 Another non-starter and like Malone will struggle to record a further cap to his collection of seven.

Home Away

Manager
Côfcarthor Undorina
Age: 1288
A successful campaign, even if it did fall short, during the last World Cup as well as an emphatic display during the AOCAF allows Undorina to see out the end of the three cycle contract. While the VSC was disappointed not to bring the tournament home, their gaze and expectations now are upon the manager, who has the daunting task of making the quarterfinals to even have an extension be considered.

Assistant Manager
Parnornede Haedhen
Age: 1182
Partnering Undorina is Haedhen, who looks to be another technical minded manager who likes to continue the tradition of the technical attacking play that is both beautiful to watch but also quite efficient in dealing with a variety of opponents.

Keeper

1 Aediron Galadirdren, Ibini FC
Age - 691
Sex - M
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 174 lbs
Galadirdren looks to be the long term solution for the Marauders in net after several stellar seasons in the domestic scene with Ibini FC. While not loud and "in control" of his box, the keeper is very good when the opposition has a breakaway, as well as some amazing reflexes. His best attribute though is his near perfect position, always seeming to know where the opposition is going to place their shots or crosses.

Defenders

2 Morlaithan Aldamiel, AC Izotz Zubia Image
Age - 704
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 162 lbs
A tough and quiet sort at the back, more physical than your usual Vanorian centerback thanks to the years that he has played in Audioslavia. More of a stay at home defender than the rest of the backline and more prone the occasional card due to the more physical nature.

3 Rainyardil Toraandal, Avenida Principal Image
Age - 663
Sex - M
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 168 lbs
Toraandal is deceptively fast and agile for a person of his size and also very keen to get in on the attack during prolonged spells in the opponents third. With his size and pure athletic ability, he has a knack for getting open in the box and heading home his fair share of goals, though it is his stern defending that is the reason that he was put on to the starting eleven.

4 Revhil Lardireil, Hondo FC
Age - 662
Sex - M
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 171 lbs
Like Toraandal, Lardireil is used to getting into the attack, having spent the majority of his career at Hondo with their attacking flavor. However he has the speed of a cheetah and the strength of an elephant, most likely the most versatile of the three defenders that the side uses.

Midfield

21 Espy va Drake, 1830 Cathair Image
Age: 767
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 159 lbs
After becoming a folklore hero for the lower class of the world, va Drake has made himself one of the living legends of the game after help leading the side to a title in World Cup 53. He has traveled far and wide while plying his trade, donning kits for no less than five countries clubs. Seen as the driving force in the middle of the park alongside Hawk, it is up to the opposition to try and figure out how to deal with the brilliance the winger and his other attackers have rather than them to create magic.

6 Caeltimyonan Haerear, Mar Sara FC
Age - 622
Sex - M
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 163 lbs
Coming from Mar Sara you would expect Haerear to be more of an attacking option, yet the midfielder is more of a box to box playmaker than the attacking midfielders usually coming from the Flames. Not overly fast or physical but Haerear has a motor that never quits, never giving up on a play or a game despite how dire the situation may be.

10 Laborious Hawk, AC Izotz Zubia Image
Age - 731
Sex -M
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 213 lbs
Words do not even begin to define his talent, his talent defines words. He was awarded one of the spots that the Vanorians have in the World Cup Hall of Fame, with it being very well deserved, as he has and continues to earn everything he has been given every single day. Hawk simply strives to be the very best footballer, captain, and teammate that there can be, with the hunger for perfection driving him forth on and off the pitch.

8 Ilglerdiriel Lithvathar, Raynor City United
Age - 737
Sex - F
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 149 lbs
Lithvathar is much like va Drake, a floater who is dynamic in attack but with enough speed and sense of the pitch to make up on any sort of defensive lapse. Yet unlike her flankmate, she is not nearly as skilled, but do not let that fool you, in a moment of magic she can undress an entire backline and set up more prolific scorers with easy chances.

7 Faeron Soldarian, 1830 Cathair Image
Age - 645
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 163 lbs
Soldarian continues to live in the shadow of more well known players both on the national team and with his club. Despite this, Soldarian is seen by all on the squad as the emotional leader and the linchpin the in the middle that allows the more attacking minded midfielders being allowed to play their game.

Strikers

9 Allandren Fresco, Ibini FC
Age - 520
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 167 lbs
Fresco continues to lead the line of the attack, being the tip of the spear that is the Marauders offensive movement. By now most teams know of the striker's pace and near laser guided shot, however the striker still somehow finds ways to bring in the goals.

11 Galasgoldas Tathtauré, OAS Royal FC Image
Age - 602
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 157 lbs
A more finesse striker than what Fresco is used to being paired with, Tathtauré has the speed to run past opponents with plenty of dribbling skill to work around multiple defenders. While not as strong as Celetholtinu was, Galasgoldas can still play a hold up role in a pinch.

This is a list of stuff you must not do:
  • Injure my players (or give them food poisoning, or stop them from playing, etc.)
  • Red-card more than one player (who is not the goalkeeper) in every game. If I have already RPed a Tinhamptonian getting dismissed, you may only add a second one with my TGed consent.
  • Replace my squad wholesale (or near enough to wholesale, the definition of which I shall define).
Otherwise, it is open season.

Manager: Tobias Möller, age 48
Assistant: Kaseem Tamir, age 61

Goalkeepers
GK: Aswad Munif Shalhoub, age 26, OAS Royal FC Image
GK: Lucas Lemann, age 24, Eletti Valligiani Image
GK Miodrag Novosel, age 29, Galatica
GK: Gordana Stanic, age 28, Royal Jam FC Image (F)
GK: Lisístrato Ramírez Alvarado, age 21, Hellinic Rouge

Probably the weakest group of players for the Wanderers, with the likes of Lemann and Alvarado being put in the pool despite their ages and lack of starts at the club level. However what they might lack as a collective can not overshadow how talented Shaloub is as an individual with plenty of room still to grow into a better player, especially follow the move to Cosumar. Novosel provides a solid option as a second choice keeper, as he has performed well for Galatica even if the club has hit a dip in their fortunes, while Stanic is the most likely of the rest to take the third slot if/when the Wanderers qualify for the Finals.

Defenders
LB: Jürgen Gottschalk, age 31, CA Paulinthal
LB: Kristian Friedmann, age 26, IFK Aldenskoett Image
LB: Jaromir Sambo, age 31, Brigham Image
CB: Jessica Weiss, age 31, Sabrefell Moths Image (F)

CB: Christopher Fosse, age 26, OAS Royal FC Image
RB: Paul Sommer, age 26, Sardin United
RB: Teha Anić, age 26, Stilinkeep FC (F)
RB: Józef Grabowski, age 31, Tanrısal

The oldest set of players and it is no surprise given Möller's fondness for Gottschalk despite the captain being on the wrong side of thirty. Despite that, the lanky defender continues to have the pace he had five years ago and keeps up the starting spot to play the role of support, while a surprise inclusion of Wolfgang Wefel will partner Oddsson in the middle. With a pair of centerbacks both towering at six foot five, it is clear that the manager is looking for a physical and intimidating presence to guard the middle of the pitch for the Wanderers, with Wefel looking good to be part of the growth of the team at his young age. Ivanec and Fosse are both solid choices off the bench, with Fosse likely to rotate in for a few starts during the campaign as he has developed into a fine player at OAS Royal. If there is a weakness though it is on the right wing with Grabowski having lost a step and no other player really stepping up to provide adequate cover there, so Möller instead has opted for former U21 international Paul Sommer, who just recently moved back to the dual islands, to try and be the stopgap.

Midfielders
RW: Fjóla Sigurjónsdóttir, age 24, Samaj FC Image (F)
RW: Angelique Chrétien, age 31, Lunas FC (F)
RW: Ljubo Mihaljević, age 26, Olympia FC Image
MC: Roland Lebrun, age 31, Tanrısal
MC: Tar Hunor, age 24, AC Izotz Zubia Image
A/MC: Jörg Feierabend, age 21, CA Paulinthal
MC: Ivanka Stipanov, age 26, Club Stein-los (F)
MC: Jürgen Eisenhower, age 22, Revolutionaires Image
MC: Miluše Richterová, age 29, Baskita FC (F)
LW: Elin Hofstede, age 30,Tanrısal (F)
LW: Brice Aubé, age 31, CA Paulinthal
LW: Ognjen Jurkovic, age 28, Olympia FC Image

Traditionally it has been upon the strength of a resolute midfield that has seen the Wanderers find their success in the past. It continues to be a sturdy foundation now, for the midfield is littered with talent of all sorts, the most surprising coming in the form of Fjóla starting on the right wing, though her performances in Cosumar definitely warrant the starting position as Chrétien seems like she is past it. In the middle is the reliable if unimpressive force of Lebrun, who merely has consistently churned out good to great performances for Tani for nearly a decade, while the six foot three Hunor is well suited to playing as a destroyer. It is the exciting prospect of the young Jorg Feierabend that has people most excited, though the attacking midfielder will have to play more reserved for his country when he does start. Hofstede's pinpoint crossing is second to none and allows her to have the other wing though both Jurkovic and Aubé can be dynamic game changers when brought off the bench with their pace and attacking prowess.

Strikers
ST: Ingþór Auðbjörnsson, age 24, AC Izotz Zubia Image
ST: Alexander Kárpáty, age 21, Mallox Image
ST: Maiten Matos Galindo, age 26, Santos Luega (F)
ST: Claudio Romano, age 21, AC Izotz Zubia Image
ST: Romelio Ceballos, age 31, 1830 Cathair Image
ST: Émond Harcourt, age 29, Tanrısal

Perhaps as a result of who is the manager or by sheer happenstance, there is an abundance of great attacking Pasargan talent right now and the choice for the call ups has to be difficult. However if there is one name penned into the lineup for every match it has to be Ingþór Auðbjörnsson, whom has earned the nickname of Thor from his teammates. At six foot three and with a deceptive amount of speed and grace for a man of his size, Thor is an all around striker who can score from nearly any spot in the box and in a variety of fashion. The sheer raw talent of Kárpáty is enough to see him be the projected second striker despite Romano being more refined and Thor's domestic teammate. Alexander is willing to fall back and work for the attacking chances and that is likely the biggest differences between he and Romano who seems to merely shows up in the right spot to grab the needed goals. Galindo is a pacy option who could easily be mistaken for a trackstar with her speed, while Harcourt is neither flashy nor pacy but has a knack for finding goals even when he really shouldn't.

Formation And Tactics
Image

While Möller continues in the vein of Wanderers' managers of the past in sticking to the traditional 4-4-2 formation, he has put his own spin on the formation. In the midfield, the wing players are expected to get forward and send in crosses regularly, not to cut in deep when in possession, as one of the central midfielders plays in a more advanced position to either play as third option in the attack or a playmaker, while the other midfielder plays in a destroyer role. The opposite winger is supposed to cut in and provide an option for the cross field switch and being the back post option for diagonals. Both fullbacks need to be tireless to run up and down the pitch, as they are expected to support the attack when able to, leaving the centerbacks as the stalwart line in front of keepers who are more athletic and reliant on their reflexes than most others at the highest levels of the game.

FOOTBALL HISTORY

Rejoice as the thick curtain that has surrounded the island state of Buyan for the past decade has been lifted – not without the help of a little firepower, that was. Some of you might recall that back in 2025 the reign of Kazys Portnii, a post-communist ruler with fairly ridiculous but, most of the time, clinically benign quirks was replaced by an iron-first tyrant in Henrik Luberg. The man, whom we until recently all had to call the General, replaced a sympathetically backward dictatorship by a harsh and repressive regime. Not afraid to murder a share of his citizens, it seemed sensible – well, to him – to lock down all the borders and give those still attempting to get away a bullet-induced death.

One of the least enjoyable side-effects of Lubergs paranoia were his decisions to declare that Buyanese at the ‘wrong’ side of the border – ‘wrong’ entirely depending on your point of view here - would no longer be considered citizens of his fierce republic. On top of that, he forbid any further representation of Buyanese national teams, presumably avoiding further fleeing opportunities. Too bad as especially when it came to football, the Hedgehogs had built up a pretty fine reputation so far. That their success had been based on the excellent effect from foreign managers Sirius Hope, Reinhard Shale and Chris Maarsden certainly was something the new regime did not want to be reminded of. A nice scroll of honour, including two qualifications for the World Cup, a Baptism of Fire victory and two Campionato Esportiva triumphs in only twelve year, reached a swift and painful end.

Besides a painful end for the national team, the domestic Top Division was suddenly stopped in its tracks as well. Even if organised football, according to the limited news that reaches us from behind the iron curtain, still continues, the group of gifted foreign players that developed over the years have fled the nation – if they weren’t expelled. Grand names such as Viztourzys Kolektyvinis, winner of a Globe Cup and a CEdC, Bengtsmark IF, Champions Cup finalist and CEdC victor, and Blau-Weiss Pallstadt, the third club to win a regional title, no longer shine on the international platform. The amateur level, we can confirm, was numbingly drab and several magnificent names such as Tufte, Giertych, Dalmshelf and Lammerschon have retired.

In 2029, the UFC of Buyan, a gathering of political and social protesters to their expulsion of their native grounds, plead and begged amongst the few Buyanese footballers who were active in foreign competitions and almost all of them appeared willing to play for a new red-and-white. As the Buyanese Football Board officially opted out of the NSWC, it was possible for this group to partake – if only with a slightly different name. Amongst them, they’ve had gathered the remaining internationals still active, more often than not experienced players on the wrong side of thirty, and a few other guys who have integrated in the social network of their host country by playing football – not always that successfully. Guided by their experienced gaffer and civil rights advocate Sil Moen, they tried to qualify for the WC 74. After only a few games, they discovered that several secret agents had infiltrated their group and decided to withdraw from any further activity.

But the winter of 2033 saw a joyful change in atmosphere. It’s difficult to pinpoint what exactly ignited the fireworks in the political landscape of Buyan – some post-factum historians point to the revolutionary atmosphere in the whole Esportivan region, others point to the deteriorating economic situation leading to hunger strikes and a third category to a split amongst the closest supporters of the General, leaving Luberg exposed. Fact is that the straw that broke the camel’s back was an illegal publication with an overview of the ‘Best Buyanese Footballers’ which didn’t hesitate to laud those who earned their wage abroad such as Devold, Zemaitis and Marciak and included Sil Moen, probably the man Henrik Luberg feared most. His ludicrous reaction – burning piles of copies of everything football-related – started a popular uprising.

A few tens of thousands of deaths and a difficult yet – according to international observers ‘acceptably’ – open election later, the nation of Buyan had reincarnated in an enthusiast republic. Winning the election were the ‘Party of Liberators’, headed by no one but Sil Moen who added the title of President to a list that already contained former international and former manager. As could be predicted, his victory speech on the freshly rebranded Martyrs Square in the heart of Pajukas was met with a lot of applause, but mostly when he announced the return of the Top Division, the professional football competition, and the beloved Blue Hedgehogs.

The vast majority of the players have ended their careers – great names as Erhardt, Tufte, Giertych, Wladecki, Lammerschon, Prinsen and Dalmshelf ended their playing time in the regional mess which was Buyanese football in the last decade. Knut Dahle, according to those who once saw him the best striker Buyan ever produced, was murdered by the regime at 24. In Jurgis Venclova, the Uprising of 2033 found another martyr who formerly graced the blue shirt.

A great amount of the others retired whilst abroad, such as Zemaitis, Halmiini, Grobanov, Smetona, Justs, Moen and Castell. Including that long list and worthy of a specific mention are the two best players who ever graced our colours. The powerful midfielder Espen Knutsen ended a long and fruitful career at Crisisbless and is currently assistant manager for the same Nepharan side. The elegant genius Sverre Devold, record international and recognised as a defining name of his generation, ended his career after a decade for Barbury Town, having lead the Apoxian side from peak to peak.

To say that not much is left is not an understatement. A few of the players made it across the generations whilst playing abroad, with goaltender Pawlo Marciak as prime example. The brand-new captain of the side will be crucial in this fairly inexperienced line-up. Add to that an expat or three, including half-Farf Wallenberg. Take a few players who saw the last stand of the illustrious Top Division when they first put on their boots and add to that a young generation with no clue about professional football at a high level. Welcome to the new Hedgehogs!

Manager: Steponas Teriouris, 55, Image

Steponas is used to living success on the bench. In the early days of the Golden Period for Viztourzys, he was the back-up goalie for Manuel Schmidt. After stopping his active career at the honourable age of 41 – with a few Kolektyvinis trophies in the bag and playing minutes in the last match of the 2018 title season as heights – he joined the BFB. Initially as youth scout, later on as U17 and U21 manager. He became goalkeeper coach under Chris Maarsden, stepped up as the assistant manager for Sil Moen and is now, at last, manager of the team.

When you flee your home country knowing that every second of hold-up could be the second too much, there is stuff you forget. Old photographs. Food in the fridge. Large domesticated animals. And, apparently, the marvellous national shirts that were provided by AER Sportswear.

Luckily for the UFC, Krytenia-based multinational kit provider JMC showed compassion, providing them with the magnificent shirts displayed above. When returning to Buyan, it appeared that Sil Moen still had those in his suitcase and as most of the groundkeeping staff in the national stadium had found an untimely death, the old ones probably never will be recovered.

STYLE & TACTICS

Style Modifier: -4

With the team for the first time in hands of Teriouris, it seems as if the focus will be on the defensive front as he has designed some sort of 5-3-2 line-up. To foreign observers, he often attempts to sell it as an attractive 3-5-2 but even if we consider the high wingbacks, don’t be fooled - the first and foremost target is to cement the clean sheet.

On goal, the gloves will be worn by Pawlo Marciak, whose years at Crisisbless allowed him to grow from remarkably talented to actually damn good. His marvellous reputation earned in Nephara also gave him, one of the few to appear for the ‘old’ Buyanese side on this squad, the captains ribbon. As an alternative, Teriouris can opt for the powerful Bursuk or for Gularis, a man with great reflexes.

Of the ten defenders chosen in the selection, only two are fully assured of their spot. Espen Raestad is quick and attentive on the left wing and carries on the tradition of strong left backs. In the core of the back five, there is Vytautas Paksas, not the quickest but a reliable and clever man for that position. He will joined in the middle by Viggo Stromberg, a wildly talented centre-back with a nice passing, and Stan Halving, who adds speed. On the right wing we’ll see another expat in the form of Kristupijas Dobrovolskas who has done quite an odyssey through the multiverse. As both Raestad and Dobrovolskas are wingers who don’t hesitate to get deep into opposing territory, some more defensive alternatives are available: youngsters such as Nordin and Okmiansas on the wing and powerful fellows such as Bjorklund and Sprav in the centre. Probably in for some playing time is the polyvalent Olli Grilianen from Bengtsmark, both on the left or as a creative central man.

In midfield, Teriouris has selected a variety of options for three very distinctive profiles. As the defensive element, Algiris Micaukis presents himself. Having never played in Buyan before, Micaukis made a marvellous career in Brenecia and recently moved to the top tier with his side Scaffield. He’s a team player and one who will do everything for the team. Alternatives are in two local youngsters who might grow to his level in a few years, Waldow and Vernerse. For the box-to-box, Teriouris prefers Henrikas Dobas, a silent force for Pajukas. The manager sees him as the best middle ground between the hardworking Karlsson and the creative Wallenberg. The holy shirt of Buyanese football is the number ten - previously held by Devold. It’s a hefty legacy that will be carried by Miro Stepaniak, a short genius. As key player, he has a scala of passes but never shies away from hard work. More than a good back-up is Isaksson, the Bengtsmark attacking midfield. Additionally, Berner and Butkus can operate from the sideline and offer tactical alternatives.

For the duo of strikers, Teriouris seems to opt for the combination of a powerful targetman and a shorter, more creative and agile attacker. For that last position, two man have been added. Jannick Brems plays for a mediocre side but is an above-average attacker who can pop up anywhere in the box and has amazing intelligence. Rudi Polaniak, on the other hand, is more of a poacher with a stocky frame. For the tall guy, the preference seems to be on the 24-year old Eklund, a man with an amazing header and a powerful shot. A series of alternatives have been called up, of which Losnedahl looks most like him. Kaukenas is a bit less strong but can carry an attack, the lanky Herbjornsrud is often underestimated and Gustloff is not ready yet, but might be one day.

APOX WORLD CUP 78 SQUAD

Manager: Gavin Hughes, Aged: 53
Assistant Manager: Luxulya St. Cleer, Aged: 37
Style: -1

Spiel: Gavin Hughes and Luxulya St. Cleer have called up fourty one players to the qualifying player pool for the teams return to the World Cup, with each section ranked by likelihood to play although there will be significant turnover in teams from game to game. Apox is one of a number of returning teams entering the World Cup unranked, creating probably the most fearsome bottom pot of all time, with the IFA giving Hughes the aim of a decent finish and a Cup of Harmony spot going into this World Cup. Once again, the performance of the team will revolve around a few key players, with captain James Palmisano being indispensible to Apox's hope in the centre of midfield. Halyos Anaximander is still an excellent shot-stopper despite his increasing years and Imhotep Jekyll and Eurwen Raynerson are indisputably the best central defensive pairing in Apox right now. Up front, Alpha Gandhi is likely to spend this World Cup happily putting away goals, though there is definitely contention as to who will join him up front, with Lucan Palmisano and Lycomedes Montanari having mediocre starts to their international careers, with Ozaria Gandhi, Winston Arrowsmith and Miriam Oakstone-Sandoval all making strong cases for inclusion domestically.

Staff
AF. Ázëwyn Fëanáro*, Manager, 4,042
270 Caps, 71 Goals (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
Appointed by former club and country team-mate and head of the SFA, Tororin Halatyrion, Ázëwyn Fëanáro takes control of the five-time World Champions, having been played a key role in every campaign from the 44th through to the 56th editions of the Cup, with championship wins in the 44th and 47th editions. Indeed, it was Fëanáro who scored the winner in the 47th Final against Valanora, denying them a title on their own turf and lifting Starblaydia to the mantle of all-time greatest team. Known for her excellent attacking play, range of passing and great eye for goal that lifts her to second in the all-time goalscorers list too, by virtue of a nearly 1-in-4 ratio, Ázëwyn Fëanáro is a symbol of grace, power and beauty from Starblaydia's golden age, some hundred and twenty-five years ago when the Cup was in its 40s. It is these qualities that the SFA hopes will be recaptured with Fëanáro at the helm, bringing her trademark poise and piercing yell to the touchlines after more than a decade of national failures.

JM. Jerzy Makuszewski, Assistant Manager, 52
83 Caps, 0 Goals (6 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Known as "Chef" by those who can pronounce his surname correctly, Makuszewski took up the mantle of "Best in the World" Lucas Cable to become Starblaydia's unassailable number one between the posts and wear the captain's armband. Always a fiery character, he can shift from jovial to furious in moments, and is expected to act as Fëanáro's 'enforcer', barking out orders and remonstrating with players and officials with equal fervour.

Goalkeepers
1. Zac Myhill, GK, 32 - Corinthian Spirits
10 Caps, 0 Goals (3 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Most Starblaydi fans felt that Myhill was the heir apparent to the Number 1 shirt, with his shot-stopping abilities as well as the command of his area. However, a succession of international tournaments came and went without him getting the coveted position. Now, with a fresh pair of managerial eyes, Myhill takes his place as the man between the posts for the first time. Can he guard Starblaydia's goal to the Finals for the first time in over a decade?

12. Zack Lomanto, GK, 35 - Hippion Overdrive
14 Caps, 0 Goals (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
Proved at the 53rd AOCAF Cup that he's not Starblaydia's number one goalkeeper, relegated to the bench for the World Cup campaign. Unfortunately, wearing the same club shirt as the great Lucas Cable didn't translate into him having the same quality or position on the national team.

19. John Higgins, GK, 28 - Jhanna City
3 Caps, 0 Goals (1 Cap, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
A young goalie, still learning his trade at JCFC, John Higgins is expected to step up in some of the minor games, and possibly even jump ahead of Lomanto in the pecking order as the backup for Myhill.

Defenders
2. Pryanka Ifil*, RB, 31 - Internashionale
30 Caps, 1 Goal (3 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Even at the age of thirty-one, Pryanka Ifil still scampers down the touchline from the full back position, overlapping with Benson and making all sorts of trouble down the right wing for the opposing defence. Her speed gets her into and out of the danger zones, and she's strong in the challenge, too.

3. Daeron Avathar, C/LB, 8,886 - Telcontarë
214 Caps, 17 Goals (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
A winner of World Cup 47, Avathar returns to the team at Fëanáro's request, pushing Jessica Garry out of the first team with his solid full-back gameplay. Never one to rush too far forward, Avathar's height, positioning, tracking and distribution are second-to-none on the left, or in the centre, of a back four. Never appearing perturbed, he's an anchor of the defence and a solid barrier to try and overcome.

5. Seth Kilgallon, Captain, CB, 32 - Internashionale
45 Caps, 1 Goal (3 Caps, X Goals at Under-21 level)
An injury kept him out of his rightful place in the heart of the defence at AOCAF Cup 53, now Seth returns to the starting line-up with the coveted Captain's armband he first held four years ago. Now in his fourth World Cup Qualifying campaign, he's determined to go that one last step and qualify for the Finals in what will probably be his last attempt. His positioning ability belies a man of his immense size and obvious strength, though he may not be the fastest player in the squad, he'll often arrive at the ball first.

6. Palanadu, CB/SW, 9,216 - Telcontarë
90 Caps, 1 Goal (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
A winner of World Cup 44, most people who either remember Palanadu's play or watch him for Telcontarë seem to think his legs have gone. They've been saying that, however, for over a century as this languid, effortless sweeper seems to do precisely no work, but always finishes top of the interception standings thanks to his uncanny ability to be in the right place before anyone else has realised it.

13. Arthur Asante, CB, 30 - Penningworth United
28 Caps, 0 Goals (3 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Even at the age of 30, Asante's game is built on power and speed. Lightning quick striker? Asante's got them. Brusier trying to overpower the defence? Asante's got them. Though his combative style sees him talked to by the referee a little too often for most fans' liking, there isn't a single person who can doubt Asante's commitment, heart and athleticism.

14. Dorn Garkadrum^, RB, 26 - Widdrington Wolves
Uncapped (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
Full of tricky moves and neat interplay, Garkadrum always provides some wing wizardry for the Widdrington Wolves. His speed and ball control make him a voracious attacking full back, and he's got the pace to track most wingers and collect the hopeful long balls without any trouble. Like a bullet in attack and defence, he's just waiting for Fëanáro to pull the trigger and get him his first international cap, in the mold of his great hero, the World Cup Hall of Famer Khim Azanulbizarn.

20. Jessica Garry*, LB, 32 - Vecchio Victors
46 Caps, 0 Goals (3 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
If you cut her, she'll bleed the purple with white sleeves of the Vecchio Victors. A fiercely patriotic full back who enters her fourth and likely last World Cup Qualifiers. She's determined to make the most of it and is aiming for her 50th cap, ideally at the World Cup Finals themselves Garry will give it all for her country, and there's no-one the average Starblaydi fan would rather see fulfill their dream than this gutsy, hard-working player.

Midfielders
4. Pawel Zapotowski, L/DM, 26 - Nidola United
17 Caps, 1 Goal (1 Cap, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Left footed and equally adept at block tackling, intercepting and the lost art of the ball-winning slide tackle, 'Zap' anchors the Starblaydi midfield ahead of Jerry Bigon and the retiring Rico Tocci. He's also big and tough, with an engine to run all day long. Though Canion is always on hand to take his place, Zap is growing into his role, finding his feet, and proving his worth.

7. Keira Matranga*, LW/M, 31 - Jhanna City
51 Caps, 17 Goals (3 Caps, 1 Goal at Under-21 level)
Aiden, Nick, Kaza, Itechton, the list of great players named Matranga has a new name in the excellent Keira. Always bursting through, always looking to cut inside, always ghosting in at the back post with the right-back looking the other way, she's simply a great winger who has earned her place as the owner of the historic Starblaydi number seven.

8. Hanar Nauglamír^, AM, 25 - Karak Ungor Chiefs
Uncapped (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
Most people would think you'd be completely mad to put a twenty-five year old into the heart of the Starblaydi midfield, no less one who has yet to play a single game in the white and purple. Nauglamír, however, is in the classic Trequartista mold to pull the strings of the attack, play through-balls to the strikers and wide midfielders, as well as unleash a vicious shot when he gets the opportunity.

11. Ollie Benson, RM, 28 - Jhanna City
22 Caps, 1 Goal (0 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
One of four Jhanna City players in the squad, Benson is an orthodox right midfielder with great speed, teamwork up and down the flank with Pryanka Ifil. A clean striker of the ball, equally adept at dead-ball situations and whipping in crosses and shots from open play.

15. Yantur Canion, C/DM, 4,820 - Telcontarë
82 Caps, 2 Goals (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
One of two Starblaydi elves without a World Cup winner's medal to his name, Canion's solid dependability was most often used in AOCAF Cup campaigns to steady the ship and quest, unsuccessfully, for a seventh regional title. He breaks up play, and distributes it short to the more creative players. A simple job, but one he can do for 90 minutes without a breather, often covering more distance than anyone else.

16. Rob Owens, AM, 30 - Jhanna City
31 Caps, 5 Goals (3 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Known as the 'Ghost of Jhanna City' for his late runs into the box to slot the ball home, Owens is a supreme counter-attacker and his club-level understanding with Matranga and Benson is not one to be trifled with then Fëanáro fancies changing up Starblaydia's play style for a little more midfield 'zip'.

17. Soronúmë, SC/RW, 8,720 - Telcontarë
198 Caps, 49 Goals (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
Very, very fast, Soronúmë is a supreme right-footed winger and deadly striker, as winner's medals from World Cups 44 and 47 will attest to. He prefers to sprint down the touchline with defenders trailing in his wake, pulling out the perfect cross at top speed. Though his style somewhat unbalances the Manager's idea of how the team should play, he's an impact substitute like no other, able to change any game in a moment.

21. Don Mannix, C/AM, 27 - Corinthian Spirits
7 Caps, 3 Goals (1 Cap, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
A true box-to-box midfielder with a great engine, Mannix is a solid tackler, marker, distributer and set-piece taker. Though he's accused of a boring style of play, he's the heart of the Spirits' creative midfield by being the reliable, dependable, ever-present pivot for the rest of the team to do their flicks and tricks around. Will run all day, and never give up the fight.

Forwards
9. Joshua Bentley, SC, 28 - Corinthian Spirits
16 Caps, 4 Goals (1 Cap, 1 Goal at Under-21 level)
Starblaydia's line-leading striker, he's a tough, all-action type of player built to break the defensive line, knock the ball down, hold it up and bring in other players. A hard worker all game long, Bentley is matter-of-fact about his fairly low goal-scoring ratio: it's not his strike-rate stats that matter, it's the team's.

10. Ella Kabeya*, SC, 23 - Jhanna United
12 Caps, 5 Goals (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
Scoring on her debut in the qualifiers for World Cup 77, Ella hasn't looked back in her career, scoring twice more in the campaign and being one of the few bright sparks in the AOCAF Cup 53 side, and even then unjustly having to come from the bench. Now, with Clayton Skye and Jeremiah Jones too old for inclusion in the squad and Brian Carter dropped, Fëanáro has gone with the young striker up front to excite the fans and prove the doubters wrong.

18. Anra Kolmkal*^, SC, 20 - Karak Ungor Chiefs
Uncapped (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
Anra makes history as the first female Dwarf to be selected for the Starblaydi national team. Though female Dwarves make up around 10% of Ice Hockey and 3% of Football players in Karak D'Ragh, Anra is the first to break through and wear Starblaydi colours. With the usual Dwarven traits of great speed, stamina and a low centre of gravity, she won't be the one to knock down the long ball, but she'll be on it quick as a flash with a powerful shot. And no, before you ask, she doesn't have a beard.

22. Rochella Libra*, SC, 29 - Penningworth United
13 Caps, 3 Goals (3 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Libra brings a flair to the Pennies attacking line up that Fëanáro simply couldn't avoid to add to the national side. Missing from the disastrous AOCAF Cup 53 side despite a decent 3 goals in 13 matches return at World Cup 76 and 77 Qualifiers, along with AOCAF Cup 52 appearances to her name, it was a bit of a shock that the oft-used substitute didn't get a fair crack of the whip. Though she struggles without decent support, Libra often has the magic touch that opposition players just can't see coming to dig out the crucial goal or assist that her team needs.

23. Carnophin Narquelie, CF/SC, 5,108 - Telcontarë
119 Caps, 39 Goals (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
Sheer heart and determination has got Narquelie through his career to be a World Cup 47 champion, and he actively requested to be considered for inclusion in this squad. By his nature he can play alongside any other striker, in any role he's given and will always show his will to get the team together. With his strength, he also can shake up Starblaydia's forward game and provide a much more combative, physical role.

ediraf once again innovates beyond all competitors with the debut of the Generation Five series of football kits.

Generation Five brings it all back to the beginning with Starblaydia's iconic, traditional and ubiquitous all-white Home kit, and the all-purple Away kit, both with five gold stars - representing their record-setting five World Championships - above the Starblaydi Football Association logo.

Home Stadium

All of Starblaydia's home matches will take place in the 196,754-seater Stadii Di Bradini, close to the popular tourist destination of downtown Jhanna, Starblaydia's capital city. Boasting extensive transport links, hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and entertainment, the Downtown area is the perfect place for a nearly quarter of a million fans to disperse into every evening after a match.

The stadium is named after Starblaydia's legendary former striker, Jhanna-born Simeone Di Bradini, the former World Cup Committee President, World Cup Hall of Famer, and three-time World Cup Winner (all with The Holy Empire as player/manager), for whom the Di Bradini Cup, the world's premier Under-21 tournament, is also named. It is a gargantuan stadium notable for environmentally friendly 'eco-stadium' features built-in since before ground was first broken on the site. Designed and constructed using as many recyclable materials and installed with technology that reduce its carbon footprint and lowers its energy needs, the exterior features a huge array of photovoltaic solar panels on the roof. It is the centrepiece of the 'Green Starblaydia' project many years before.

Polkopian National Football Team
"The Slashers"

Image

The Polkopian Football Association is a relatively new organization, compared to some of the other football associations around the multiverse, and it serves as the governing body for the Polkopian Premier League, as well as the Polkopian National Team itself. The National Team was formally under government control, where the Polkopian government had overseen all duties that were associated with creating and maintaining a National Team. Despite hard measures taken by the Polkopian government, the Polkopian National Team had very little success internationally, and thus, failing to ignite passion for the sport.

After the Polkopian Football Association, or PFA, was established, the team was completely restructured, though coaching and managerial staff remained the same. A domestic league was established in order for the Polkopian players to gain experience against players from other nations, as well as their own. Furthermore, new youth academies were set up in order to assure that the Polkopian youth could gain experience with the hope of one day representing their nation on an international stage.

The "Hanisov Stadiona", or Hanisov Stadium, is the home stadium for the Polkopian National Football Team. The stadium itself is relatively new, having only just been built seventeen years ago, and seats a total of 78,000 spectators. The stadium had been originally constructed to field the club team, Peeto Gordost', but the PFA, or Polkopian Football Association, changed it last minute. The views from the stands pictured here and here assure a great-quality view from nearly any angle.

==========================================================================================================================
Roster(Green=starter)
# Name pos. Club

1. Daniel Ingram GK Grand Danican Lions

4. Preston Caldwell GK Grand Danican Lions

The goalies for the lions are Daniel Ingram and Preston Caldwell. Caldwell used to be the starting goalie for the Grand Danican Lions, but was replaced by Ingram. Caldwell had been injured in the regular season, and Ingram took over. Ingram preformed well leading the Lions to a championship, and won. Caldwell was originally going to be the starter but in the trials Ingram preformed better than Caldwell and won the starting job for both the BoF and World Cup.
# Name pos. Club

2. Chance Morris(C)(PK) CF Grand Danican Lions

26. Stuart Vann CF North Carolina Jackals
3. Astor Quickly CF South Carolina Leopards

12. Grayson Barnes(LFK) LW New York Bears

8. Shannah Goffe LW Tampa Bay Stingrays

7. Bart Sherburne(RFK) RW New York Bears

18. Libby Paul RW Pittsburgh Piranhas
6. Brianne Power RW Indiana Psychos

The forwards for the team consists of one Center foward and two wingers in the 4-2-1-3 format. The starting CF, Chance Morris will be captain for the tournament, with Stuart Vann, and Astor Quickly as the back ups. This also shows the new players joining the team for the World Cup that didn't compete in the Baptism of Fire, as an attempt to change the fortunes of the team. The only starter change if this group is the Right Winnger. In the BoF Libby Paul was the starter, but due to his less than stellar performance, he was replaced by Bart Sherburne for the cup.
# Name pos. Club

20. Baldwin Conner(DFK) AMC Tampa Bay Stingrays

42. Kaylee Mills AMC Pittsburgh Piranhas

8. Placid McGee DMC Virgina Dogs

11. Wesley Robert DMC Delaware Colonials
13. Lilly Sackville DMC Indiana Psycos

Placid McGee and Gabriel Day were named the starting players playing at the Defensive Midfielder center position, while Baldwin Conner was named the starting attacking Mid center. The DMC players are known across New Danican for being able to defend exceptionally well, and then go on the attack immediately afterwards. These players will be responsible for both setting up attacks and being the first line of defense.
# Name pos. Club

38. Jocelyn Garret LD Grand Danican Lions

14. Conner Linton LD Delaware Colonials
15. Winona Arnold LD Pittsburgh Piranhas

59. Scotty Moss DC Indiana Psychos
16. Aston Morris DC Grand Danican Lions

78. Murray Stokes DC Pittsburgh Pirahanas
17. Cash Booth DC New Jersey Rockets

9. Vaughn Jephson RD New York Bears

31. Madeline Mann RD Indiana Psychos
19. Patti Hooker RD Delaware Colonials

The defenders saw the most changes from the BoF roster. The center defenders saw Aston Morris take Murray Stokes spot, after Stokes struggled in the BoF. The Right defenders also switched around from the BoF with the starter for that competition, Madeline Mann, switching with the backup, Vaughn Jephson. Manager Phil Johnson said that he feels that the defense is stronger now, than it was for the Baptism of Fire.

Manger: Phil Johnson(52)
Domestic League record: 256-35-21
International Record: 0-2-1.
Phil Johnson is probably the best manager in New Danican today, and maybe all-time. He was won 10 domestic championships during his time as manager of the Grand Danican Lions, and is generally acknowledged as a strategic master. He hopes to bring that success to the World Cup.

Assistant Manager: Mark William(42)
Mark Williams will be assisting Johnson for this tournament. He is usually in charge of practices, and served as Johnson's assistant for the BoF, and knows the style Johnson likes to see in his team.

Football is one of the three national sports within Coldfield - along with Boxing and Archery. Practiced since 1890 yet the first national football tournament was held in 1950 - the Commonwealth Cup. In early years football teams were quite amateur and they took part in regional championships: North, Central Mountains, South, and West. Nowadays Coldfieldian clubs plays in a yearly domestic cup, three national leagues, and six regional conferences. The Coldfieldian National Football Team (the CNFT) was established in late 2016 and took part in Baptism of Fire 64, being eliminated by Amnarei-asud in the penalties after a dramatic match in the quarter-finals. Coldfield also participated in the WC 77 and Campionato Esportiva 19; in the former CNFT was eliminated in the qualification stage after a "cringeworthy" campaign; in the latter, Coldfield won just one match and didn't make into the round of sixteen.

Manager: Alexio del Nieran (Erathore)

Goalkeepers
#1 - GK - Aurélian Gautier - Parisia
22 years old - 6’7 - 203

Spectacular since making his debut at the age of 16, wonderkid Aurélian Gautier has confirmed himself to be the real deal. Blessed with a huge frame with a wingspan over 7ft, Aurélian seems like he would be more adept in basketball, however he dominates in goal and has started to play well as a sweeper keeper, further exploiting his natural athletic gifts. A fantastic season with Gautier in goal helped propel Parisia to their best ever 3rd place finish; perhaps more important than the finish was Aurélian deciding to stay on for another year.
International Appearances: 45
Assists: 1
Awards: None

#13 - GK - Demarcus Jones - FC Matovallanen (SEM)
27 years old - 6’5 - 194
A very springy, agile keeper despite his big frame, Demarcus Jones hasn’t really had the chance to show what he’s all about in international play thanks to the brick wall that is Pietro Tomaselli. Jones’ main strengths are his jumping ability and his fantastic reflexes that allow him to make absolutely insane instinctive saves. He has a tendency to fade in and out of games as his concentration wanes, but as he’s only 22, plenty of time to develop the mental side of the game. He won two Seria-A titles before a 12m offer from FC Matovallanen was too tempting to turn down, and Jones made the oft traveled track to Semarland.
International Appearances: 35
Assists: 0
Awards: National Team: Baptism of Fire 60 (3rd). Club: Sebio City: 2x Seria-A (2017/18)

Defenders:
#2 - RB (RWB/LB/LWB) - Steven Tadeo (Rosaria United)
25 years old - 6'1 - Weight: 164

The finest Echani outside back in the, Steven Tadeo combines fantastic pace, a winger’s dribbling ability, and great defensive abilities. A poor season for Rosaria United saw them finish 4th, but one of the bright spots was Tadeo’s development into an all-around well rounded player. Excellent offensively and passable defensively, Tadeo took his defense to the next level, emerging as a lockdown defender. On the national team, Steven Tadeo really operates as a complete wingback, given the freedom to roam up the touchline or cut in as a traditional, albeit deep-lying, winger, with his exceptional passing allowing him to find his target all over the pitch. Perhaps the greatest benefit Tadeo brings to the national team is his unique connection with Marco van Ciavatinni on the right wing, cutting intricate patterns through the defense with great one-two’s and interlocking play.
International Appearances: 53
Goals Scored: 0
Assists: 5
Awards: 2x Seria-A champion (2016, 2020)

#3: CB: Darren Tran - Kyoshiku Island (OSR)
25 years old - 6’4 - 198

A hulking strongman defender, Darren Tran is one of the most athletically gifted Echani alive, boasting pace, great positioning, and obscene strength to form a brilliant defensive stalwart. While lacking much of a passing or dribbling ability, the classic hardman Tran is a lockdown defender who earned a move from Alexandria United to Kyoshiku Island in Osarius, and has been a revelation. Is the strong yang to the pacey, more elegant yin of the Luc Villaview-Tran defensive partnership at the heart of the Echani team.
International Appearances: 45
Goals Scored: 0
Assists: 0
Awards: None

#5 - CB (LB) - Willian Luc Villaview (Rosaria United)
29 years old - 6’1 - 168

An excellent defender at the peak of his abilities, Luc Villaview combines fantastic athletic ability with technical brilliance to serve as another midfielder for the Echani team when in the attack. Willian frequently steps into the space behind Samper Markovic to grab loose balls and joining the possessive attacking movement that characterizes the national team under Erathore legend, Alexio del Nieran. Willian Luc Villaview has been brilliant for both Rosaria United and the Echani national team, and is a rightful legend to his fans.
International Appearances: 110
Goals Scored: 3
Assists: 0
Awards: National Team: Baptism of Fire 60 (3rd). Club: Rosaria United: 2x Seria-A champion (2016, 2020)

#6 - LB (LWB) - Hugo Carstensen - Samaj FC (COS)
27 years old - 6’2 - 183

Hugo Carstensen has crisp passing, good heading, good standing tackles, just an all around good player. At 6’2, he’s tall for an outside back, and with a high level of physical strength, he’s a bit of a bitch to get around. He brings another target for attacking and defending setpieces, and is a threat in his own right with a brilliant crossing ability. He isn’t a great dribbler, nor is he particularly pacey, but he makes use of a good sense of positioning to make himself available as a passing option, while always looking to whip one in with pinpoint accuracy.
International Appearances: 38
Goals Scored: 0
Assists: 2
Awards: None

#12 - CB (CDM) - Eric BAMBIC - Llara llera (SAN)
24 years old - 6’2 - 167
Eric Bambic cuts an elegant figure on the pitch with a trim 6’2 frame and fantastic technical skills that see him delicately poke the ball away from a defender before neatly rolling the ball out away from a challenge before passing the ball to the midfield. He has plenty of pace, albeit a little slow off the block, and has a very rapidly improving sense of positioning. He loves to carry the ball out of the back, and has the passing and dribbling skills required to have success at it. If it weren’t for the brilliance of Luc Villaview, Eric Bambic would be starting without a doubt.
International Appearances: 12
Goals Scored: 0
Assists: 0
Awards: None

#16 - LB (CB) - Matthias Prudenzio - Alexandria United
20 years old - 6’1 - 164
A defensively brilliant player, Matthias Prudenzio took advantage of an early season leg break to the starting Alexandria United leftback to dazzle Seria-A with his defensive technical skills. Watching Prudenzio is watching the elegance of the defensive game; his easy, loping running style and long legs allow him to neatly pick the ball from the feet of attacking players, and his slidetackling ability is second to none at 20 years of age. His passing ability and pace allow him to lope up the field and back, while his sense of positioning and defensive abilities let him fill in at centerback more than proficiently. From fringe youth player to irreplaceable starter making his national team debut in less than a season. Brilliant.
International Appearances: 3
Goals Scored: 0
Assists: 1
Awards: None

#18 - RB - Andreu Caelius -Monmarte
19 years old - 5’10 - 153
A brilliant young talent, Andreu Caelius brings unbounding energy, pace, and a well-rounded if rough overall game. Part of the second best defense in the league, Caelius exploded onto the scene with his never ending coverage of Monmarte’s right flank. Equally capable of whipping in a cross, dribbling past a defender, slide tackling the ball away, or just running up and down the byline for 90 minutes, Andreu Caelius is certainly one to watch.

Midfielders:
#4 - RCM (CDM/CB) - Samper M.arkovic - Sebio City
26 years old - 6’1 - 169

Essential to both club and country, brilliant midfielder Samper Markovic is the rock that holds his team’s entire structure together. With good pace and an unmatched sense of defensive positioning, Samper naturally drops from the midfield line into a CDM position during the run of play to snuff out opposing attacks before they get going, before carrying it upfield an offering an unpredictable and dynamic creative outlet from the midfield line. He has a brilliant range of passing, and several go-to dribbling moves to drop any pressure.

#8 - CAM (CM) - Jean-Marie Bentacur - Baskita FC (PAS) VICE-CAPTAIN
27 years old - 5’10 - 156

An extremely creative, highly technical playmaking midfielder who can also put in a . A quick and electric dribbler, Jean-Marie seeks to drive forward in attack and to make use of his dribbling, silky smooth touch, an eye for the killer pass, and a fantastic long shot. A key component for both club and national team, Jean-Marie Bentacur keeps the offensive game clicking, while also dropping back next to next to the holding midfielder in defense to help regain possession. Bentacur has really evolved into a complete midfielder, capable of defending, supporting possession, and leading the charge himself, without a doubt one of the best Echani midfielders in history. He has continued his magnificent form abroad for Baskita FC.

#23 CM (CAM/CDM) -Artemis Montanari - Hastmead Diamante (OSR)
20 years old - 6’3 - 168lbs
Very quickly emerging as one of the best Echani midfielders in the game, Artemis Montanari is an incredibly cerebral player with world class vision and a passing ability to match. What makes him such a brilliant young midfielder is how complete he is in all aspects of play. He’s a great dribbler, blending touches, moves, trickery and flair you'd expect from a winger, but he’s also a world class defender who puts in accurate tackles and boasts an extremely athletic 6'3 frame. Montanari’s versatility allows him to play anywhere in the midfield, and with his impressive pace, he could realistically play anywhere on the field with some level of expertise. At his best as a roaming midfielder free to do as he pleases; Artemins Montanari at once controls the game with his passing, opens up avenues of attack with his dribbling, and plays as a lockdown defensive midfielder. He stars for the 13th best club in the world, and has taken over the starting spot on the national team from Xavi Arisilde.

#11 - CDM (CM) - Xavi Arisilde - Loconstead United (ETHANE)
27 years old - 6’0 - 166

A complete, consistent, hardworking and versatile midfielder, Xavi Arisilde and is capable of playing both center midfielder and defensive midfielder. Arisilde has good technique, solid vision, and fantastic passing range, and primarily plays as a deep-lying playmaker, but he is also capable of playing as a defensive midfielder due to his strength and powerful build, combined with his rabid tenacity, football intelligence, aggressive tackling style and his mind that has been made to read the game. Occasionally guilty of committing hard challenges, and for his tendency to blow his top and rack up cards for particularly hard fouls. A move to a more low profile league in Ethane is his attempt to shine as brightly as possible to try and win back his national team starting birth.

#14 - CDM (CM) - Iñaki Martón - Celtic Noviodunum (New Gelderland)
29 years old - 5’10 - 153
A fantastic defensive midfielder and possession recycling asset, Iñaki Williams is the perfect shield for the defensive line. He rarely pushes forward from his spot in front of the defense, and prefers to simply lay the ball off to more creative players then try to produce some magic himself. He possess a vastly underrated long ball ability, able to ping the ball forward and land exactly where wanted it.

#19 - CAM (CM) - Elrond Yorick - Matthew Rangers (USI)
21 years old - 5’9 - 153
The elegant Elrond Yorick displays football in all of it's beauty, with picture perfect passes, elegant spins, and impossibly curving shots. He’s extremely agile, and with tight control of the ball, Yorick easily slices through defensive lines before slipping a pass through. He jumped ship from relegated Club Ithinia to Matthew Rangers, and has taken huge strides toward fulfilling his potential. He has really exploded into his own, and has quickly become an essential cog in the National Team rotation.

#21 - CAM (ST) - Adnan Cynac - Holdenberg

Attackers:
#10 - RW (ST/LW/CAM) - Marco van Ciavatinni (Myrmidon) [CEN] THIRD-CAPTAIN
24 years old - 5’9 - 147lbs

Far and away the best player in Eshan’s history, Marco van Ciavatinni was always tipped as a once in a generation player from a young age and he’s certainly fulfilled that billing. Turning out for the national team since he was 17, Marco van Ciavatinni helped lead Eshan to a 3rd place finish in the Baptism of Fire and has done a 3peat for Sebio City in the Echani Seria-A. MvC is simply sublime with the ball at his feet, and might actually move faster when he’s dribbling. A beautifully simple player, Marco is a master of feints, stop and starts, simple moves to send his opponent one way while he goes the other. A brilliant attacking threat, van Ciavatinni is at once his team’s first goal scoring threat, chief playmaker, and conductor of attacking movements. He completed a move to Myrmidon from Sebio City that has reportedly left him broken hearted.

#9: ST: Anthony Baudelio (Phalanx FC) [CEN]
22 years old - 6'2 - 172lbs

Coming in at 6’2, 172lbs, Anthony Baudelio is nothing else if an impressive physical specimen with the size and strength to bully defensive lines, but also wielding absolutely blistering pace, and the combination of the two allow him to influence the game based on his physical gifts alone. Add a lethality in front of goal that has never been seen before in Eshan, and you have a true world class talent. 103 goals in 140 appearances for Alexandria United, goals abound for Phalanx FC, and goals and goals for the national team. Absurd!

#7 - LW/RW - Marshawn Mercury - Cornellians (SCHO)
24 years old - 6’3 - 164

One of the most entertaining Echani players, Marshawn Mercury has finally made the jump to a top level player. Mercury combines world class speed, with a fantastic and flamboyant dribbling ability. Add in natural flair and a tendency for the spectacular, and you have a truly jaw dropping player who constantly amazes and bamboozles with his creative play. He’s improved on his support play and has certainly added goalscoring to his tally. Won a threepeat for his boyhood club Sebio City before Cornellians in Schottia came knocking with a 9m check. A sensation for the 27th best club in the world.

#15: ST (LW) - Robby Stanford (Sebio City)
24 years old - 6’3 - 154
Tall and lanky, Robby Stanford came out of absolutely nowhere to score 21 goals in his professional debut season for Philosos, and hit 17 and 23 in his next two seasons with the team. He transferred over to Sebio City and was essential in securing a third Seria-A title in a row, although only able to score 14 goals (which isn’t a problem when you have the sheer brilliance of Marco van Ciavatinni to your right). Incredibly intelligent on and off the ball, Stanford always seems to pick the right option. Laying it out wide to a winger, smacking it back to the defense to retain possession, taking a shot, making a run, all of it is perfectly timed. He’s got blistering pace about him, and a great finishing ability. He’s physically weak and poor in the air, so he’s not winning any balls in the air, but his real strength lies with the ball at his feet. Despite being a good player for Sebio City, rumors circulate of Sebio City looking for a world class striker or winger to partner with MvC.
International Appearances: 22

Awards: 1x Seria-A champion (2019)

#17 - LW (RW/ST) - Magnum Cerelius - Sebio City
20 years old - 6’2 - 173
An exceptional player even at a young age, and one of the keys to the future along with Rafa DiSantos and Artemis Montanari, Magnum Cerelius hails from the island state of Gracemeria, and has been the star of the club since joining at the age of 4. A fantastic physical prospect, blistering pace and acceleration and a developing level of strength, Magnum Cerelius stands at 6’2 and is physically developing at an impressive rate. Absolutely incredible ball control skills and a penchant for flair-filled dribbling, Magnum loves nothing more than embarrassing and nutmegging defenders, and has also displayed a strong finishing ability. A great record for Gracemeria earned him a high profile move to Sebio City where he is expected to be groomed into MvC’s replacement, despite only being 4 years his junior.

#20 - ST - Capello ‘C. Mortarotti’ Mortarotti - Parisia
24 years old - 6’3 - 191lbs
The first of the Mortarotti twins, Capello is the target man, finisher of the two. Poached up top for Parisia, he is responsible for finishing the chances provided by his more creative twin Tiburcio. The two of them have a telepathic connection and, while it has been extraordinarily helpful for their club Parisia, it hasn’t been enough to secure international football and there are rumors about of the two of them considering a transfer.

#22 - ST(CAM/LW) - Tiburcio ‘T. Mortarotti’ Mortarotti - Parisia
24 years old - 6’1 - 172
The second of the famous Mortarotti twins, Tiburcio is the more creative, teamplayer of the two to them. Typically ‘positioned’ next to his twin Capello for Parisia, T typically drops deeper to receive the ball and play as the link up between the midfield line and his twin brother Capello. He has a little bit of a LSD problem, but apparently that only helps his creativity on the pitch, with his ingenious passing earning him the ‘twin’ laudits of one of the most accurate and simultaneously creative Echani passers in history. He’s (and to an admittedly much lesser extent his brother) a much welcome addition to the Eshan team, and we look forward to what he can bring during the World Cup.

Playstyle: The Echani team plays a high-energy attacking game, moving the ball around quickly with primarily short passes, searching for a weakness in the opposition's defensive play. When a weakness is identified, the team surges forward in attack, with quick interlocking play to bring to ball to the goal. Creative freedom is given to the strikers, wingers, and the advanced playmaking midfielder, as well as the directive to roam from their position in an attempt to find pockets of space where they may be more effective. The team closes down quickly, aiming to win back possession in five seconds or less. Failing that, the team drops deep into defensive positioning to shore up any vulnerabilities. Echani defenders stay on their feet rather than trying desperate slide tackles. They love a good physical jostle with an opponent, and all Echani players are expected to contribute to both attack and defense. When in attack, the defensive line pushes higher up to pitch to condense play.

Most Likely to: (in order 1-3)
Score: Marco van Ciavatinni, Anthony Baudelio, Antonio Mulcair
Assist: Marco van Ciavatinni, Jean-Marie Bentacur, Xavi Arisilde

Notes

After two years away from international soccer, Republican National Soccer Team, LLC has reformed just as its owner and sole proprietor has been awarded the title of Soccer General by Consul Kyle Bolton. Soccer General Rule Theriault held open tryouts throughout the FFR to find the best young soccer players and the hottest high school cheerleaders in the Federation and get them under contract to Republican National Soccer Team, LLC. After travelling across the Federation and holding 60 open tryouts, a total of 27 soccer players and 68 cheerleaders were selected for the team based on their performance, (in the case of the soccer players) game tape and discussions with their coaches. At this time, Theriault is unsure whether any of the players stand out above the rest but he is hopeful that they will be responsible to coaching from the first Soccer General in the history of the Free Republics and his legendary assistant manager Sir Koby Theodore, who shined so memorably in World Cups 68 and 71. While rumor has it that looks were a factor in selecting both the soccer team and the cheerleading squad, Soccer General Rule Theriault denies rumors that Nova Hellstrom-Hancock and Lucia Bolton had a role in selecting players for the soccer team, though he does admit that Sir Koby Theodore and Consul Kyle Bolton hand-picked the cheerleaders.

World Cup 78

Sargossa - 'The Corsairs'

Head Coach

Rafael Barrios
Worked under Director of Elite Football Luís Molina at Dínamo Maturín, leading the Quellan club to four consecutive top three SuperLiga finishes. Handed a four-year contract and charged with leading the nation out of the sporting doldrums.

Backroom Staff

Assistant Head Coach: Carlos Ramos
Defensive Coach: Guillermo Lucena
Attacking Coach: Alejandro Tapia
Goalkeeping Coach: Armando Abad
Fitness Coach: Mario Sánchez
Team Doctor: Dr Carla Segura

Talent

GK: 1. Dario Almirón (30) – Ciudad Soluca
A consistent performer whose domestic form for Ciudad has prompting comparisons with former national team great Martín Tejera. There are doubts whether Almirón possesses the distribution skills favoured by the coach but his shot stopping is unsurpassed.
GK: 13. Sergio Vega (24) – Dínamo Maturín
Enjoyed another excellent season in the Dínamo goal as Barrios’ boys finished second. Quick off his line and with superb distribution with both hands and feet. Familiarity may see him just edge out Almirón.
GK: 25. Dani Gómez (27) – El Nacional
After several years starring in the Segunda Liga Gómez fully vindicated El Nacional decision to buy him with a solid season for the Gozan giants.

DR: 2. Marco Gamboa (27) – Dínamo Maturín
Initially deployed as a winger during his early days at San Marquez’s ‘El Academica’ but has gradually been pushed back by coaching staffs throughout his career. Now an effective wingback, but one who has never been able to curb that attacking spirit.
DRC: 5. Álvaro Duarte (30) – Ciudad Soluca
Plucked from the dusty streets of the Rainbow City slum and turned into an excellent football in Ciudad’s Academy . A solid defender with an excellent reading of the game. Equally adept at centreback or fallback.
DC: 6. Sebastían Pérez (28) – El Nacional
A classy, ball-playing centreback in the classical Gozan model. Ayala has both pace and poise, a combination that has seen him become a firm fan favourite at the Independiente.
DL: 3. Germán Montero (22) – Dínamo Maturín
Quick, skilful and possessing a wand of a left foot, the wingback is a key part of Barrios’ plans at the Ciudad Deportiva and is expected to take a similar role with the national side.
DLC: 12. Andrés Fernández (26) – Dínamo Maturín
Spied by Dínamo scouts plying his trade in the third tier. The rough diamond was polished off with two years on loan in the Segunda with Costa San Verdi and slotted effortlessly into the Dínamo back three this term.
DRC: 14. Óscar Riveros (30) – Alianza Jucaro
A right back by trade who often gets shoved into the centre during Alianza coach Landín’s numerous tactical switches. In excellent form in the SuperLiga and with the kind of versatility and experience coaches love.
DL: 19. Álvaro Garrido (25) – Rubio Bayamo
An adventurous fallback with an aptitude for set pieces and a real eye for goal. Famously helped knock Ciudad Soluca out of last season’s Copa Sargossa with a goal scored from inside his own half.
DC: 21: Jorge Bastos (26) – Sporting San Marquez
Standing at 6’ 6” the man they call ‘The Beast’ is potentially the towering heart of the Sporting defence. Lack of mobility can sometimes prove his downfall but Bastos is a suitably huge threat from set pieces.

MC: 4. Eduardo Larrea (31) – Ciudad Soluca
A midfielder with tremendous lung capacity. His box-to-box runs stood out in Dunas Del Sol side punching above their weight and led to a move to the capital.
AMR: 7. Gastón Suárez (30) – El Nacional
A converted fallback who led the assist table for much of last season.
MC: 8. Alejandro Vecino (28) – Dínamo Maturín
A youth team star at Sporting San Marquez, the talented playmaker was surprisingly let go by Sporting two years ago. He was snapped up by Dínamo and has become a key figure in their midfield.
AML: 11. Carlos Álvarez (22) – Porto Alegro Azul
The winger is something of a wizard with the ball at his feet, no player made more dribbles in last season’s SuperLiga. But he lacks the delivery to be considered truly world class.
AMRC: 15. Antonio Amaro (23) – Alianza Jucaro
A star winger in the Segunda for Sportivo Torrienté before turning down offers from Ciudad Soluca, Sporting San Marquez and Dínamo Maturín to join hometown club Alianza. He has recently been deployed more centrally, to excellent effect.
MC: 16. Mario Robles (29) – Daroca Marinos
Midfield playmaker with a prestigious range of passing. Robles stands out in a fairly average Daroca Marinos side that has consistently punched above its weight in recent seasons.
DMC: 18. David Zambrano (25) – Dínamo Maturín
Tireless midfielder battler in the same vein as those previous anchor-men historically produced by our mighty archipelago. Prone to nosebleeds if he crosses the halfway line.
DMC: 22. Alejandro Victorino (25) – Ciudad Soluca
Another of those midfield battlers we seem so keen on developing. But unlike some of his illustrious predecessors Victorino also possesses excellent technical abilities, a wide range of passing and isn’t prone to feeling all feint if he stumbles into the opposition half.
AMLC: 24. Jorge Chanza (28) – Sportivo Soluca
A top assist provider in the domestic league and one dangerous crosser of a football. Sportivo have been fighting of suitors for the midfielder for years.

FC: 9. Rodrigo Marcellán (22) – Dínamo Maturín
Dínamo reportedly paid Atlético Ensenada what still stands as a record fee for a teenager to capture the signature of Marcellán. Good in the air, good on the ground, strong and able to pick a pass. He scores goals too. Key to how Barrios’ side plays.
FC: 10. Miguel Marí (25) – Dínamo Maturín
An out-and-out forward and proven top flight goalscorer at Estrella Torreón before an injury crisis at El Torrigal saw him drop deeper to excellent effect. Now at Dínamo and equally comfortable at leading the line or ‘in the hole’.
FC: 17. Iván Mayoral (26) – Alianza Jucaro
Arguably the strongest header of a football in the entire SuperLiga. At 6’3” Mayoral offers a handy ‘hoof it to the big man’ option.
FRC: 20. José Arroyo (29) – Sporting San Marquez
Big things were expected of a forward who caught the attention with a seventy four goal season for one of Sporting’s many youth teams. Often used as an attacking midfielder at club level.
FL: 23. Fernando Calero (27) – El Nacional
An out-and-out winger who offers pure pace down the flank. Capable of tying opposition defenders up in knots but often lacking composure in the final third.

Style

New coach Rafael Barrios comes in with a pledge to re-introduce the ‘Sargossan Style’, traditionally a counter attacking 5-3-2 system. Although Barrios himself favours a slight variant of that style, nominally described as a 5-4-1 Diamond. Barrios favours a high defensive line with an emphasise on winning the ball and launching quick counter attacks, usually down the flanks. The SuperLiga is quite a physical league so challenges can often be described as 'uncompromising' and cards are pretty common. Gamesmanship, while never encouraged, is also not entirely uncommon. But diving is considered particularly stigmatic so Sargossan players are unlikely to be found doing it.

Tumbran National Football Team
The Blue Lions

Image

After an extremely disappointing WC77 qualification cycle where their rightful qualification spot was stolen from them by Semarland, who were rightly disqualified for some clerical errors that led to major cheating and then wrongly reinstated due to the corrupt WCC letting them back into the competition in exchange for something, the Blue Lions are back, with new kits, and out for blood.

The WC78 cycle proved to be one of hope and promise for the Blue Lions. In a three-way battle with Abanhfleft and San Jose Guayabal in Group 1, the Blue Lions proved themselves worthy by not losing a single time except to the aforementioned two teams - something that slipped the former up. The team came second, and head to the World Cup as fourth seeds.

Having broken their duck, however, manager Robin Stoff decided to make changes to the team, including the introduction of female players for the first time. With several players retiring, this seemed as opportune a time as any to institute this major change into the footballing world. Perhaps female players could make it into the Football League Championship Series as well?

In the meantime, however, all depends on how the Blue Lions do at the World Cup.

All-Time Record as of WC LXXVIII Qualifying

Staff

Manager: Robin Stoff (60 y/o, TMB)

Following the excellent cycle Tumbra have had for the cycle, Stoff has penned a two-cycle extension for the team. His daring manouveres and brand of football have led him to become, with good reason, one of the men who will be remembered as the Great Managers of Tumbra.

Assistant Manager: Mark Noble (49 y/o, TMB)

Goalkeeping Coach: Aiden Pearce (54 y/o, TMB)

Defensive Coach: Jon Seah (45 y/o, TMB)

Attacking Coach: Martin Lewis (60 y/o, TMB)

Fitness Coach: Samantha Lewington (41 y/o, TMB)

Scout: Harry Kew (66 y/o, TMB)

Physio: Coraline Lewis (35 y/o, TMB)

Players

Formation: 4-2-3-1

1 Ryan Hughes

Age: 33
Height: 190 cm
Weight: 86 kg

Goalkeeper Hughes was, is and will be the custodian of the goal for this team. A magnificent ability to stop shots which are often considered unsaveable, Hughes is a threat to look out for. However, he cannot stop set-pieces for toffee, and generally looks to the defenders to help him in this task. Even though he is 33 and not getting younger, Hughes is still very much is in his prime.

12 Raymond Perry

Age: 32
Height: 183 cm
Weight: 73 kg

Perry, the man with cat-like reflexes, finds himself once again in the team. He'll be treating this as possibly an extended vacation, unless something happens to Hughes. He is a middle-of-the-road keeper, and is generally considered to be around decent for a team of Tumbra's standing. Perry recently announced his retirement from international football at the end of the cycle, making the finals his farewell tour.

23 Lucien Parker

Age: 22
Height: 179 cm
Weight: 70 kg

The first of the changes announced to the team, Lucien Parker is a sprightly young goalkeeper who promises much to bring to the team. Having already shown signs of leadership, he is seen as a candidate for future team captain. A master set-piece stopper, he might be called on for any potential penalty shootouts the team faces. Will he and the other seven new inductions into the team do well?

2 Louis Paterson (Chalk Wharf)

Positions: LB, CB
Age: 30
Height: 179 cm
Weight: 81 kg

3 Brandon Brooks (Fayborough United) - Captain

Positions: CB, CDM, CM
Age: 33
Height: 180 cm
Weight: 85 kg

Brandon Brooks is the definition of a safe pair of hands. His command of the area is bar none, and is often called the best defender in Tumbra. While not the fastest, Brooks does fit in with Stoff's new philosophy of stopping attackers in defence - and works it out to a tee.

With Pandon's retirement from international football, Brooks becomes the Captain. Will he do well?

4 Steve Nelson (Thurmond United)

Positions: CB, RB, CDM
Age: 31
Height: 172 cm
Weight: 69 kg

5 Cecil Reyes (Hoxford United)

Positions: RB, CB, SW
Age: 28
Height: 180 cm
Weight: 72 kg

Reyes is part of a new brand of football that Robin Stoff is trying to bring in - physically imposing defenders that can scare the living daylights out of opposing strikers. Standing at just below six feet, Reyes is extremely athletic and will chase after every single ball.

13 Ian Keum (Chalk Wharf)

Positions: CB, LB, RB
Age: 26
Height: 174 cm
Weight: 66kg

14 Alex Tucker (Metz FC)

Positions: LB, CB, RB
Age: 30
Height: 168 cm
Weight: 54 kg

Alex Tucker is the shortest and lightest member of the team, but that does not mean everything in the world of football. Tucker is fast, agile and jumps like a spring - managing to jump up to 200 cm - taller than most people are. This also means that he has been responsible for some fantastic last-ditch goal-line saves, using his incredible speed to catch up to forwards.

15 Roger Baker (Thurmond City)

Positions: CB, RB
Age: 31
Height: 182 cm
Weight: 71 kg

6 Henry Butler (Golden Eagles - Avon) - Vice Captain

Positions: CDM, CM, LM
Age: 30
Height: 171 cm
Weight: 63 kg

Butler quietly and efficiently established himself as the top CDM in Tumbra, with his recent showing at the Cup of Harmony speaking volumes about his quality. Extremely well-versed in the defensive arts of football, Butler will run rings around the opponent, showing them how stubborn the Tumbran defence can be at times.

7 John Rhys-Stevens (Merton FC)

Positions: CDM, CB
Age: 25
Height: 175 cm
Weight: 70 kg

Rhys-Stevens put in a quiet yet determined campaign during the Cup of Harmony and the Eagle's Cup, proving once again that the mature-beyond-his-age midfielder is ready for the full rigour of international football. His most unforgettable moment may have happened in Valanora, but that was what brought him into the spotlight for the first time...

8 Almar Hussein (Connaught FC)

Positions: LW, CM, CAM
Age: 22
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 56 kg

Another star from the Di Bradini Cup campaign, Hussein's young age raises the question of whether he is too young to take part in international football. Some say that he is an experiment to see whether Oliver Ganson can be rushed into service as the replacement for Henry Pandon, but we never know with Robin Stoff. An aerial master, his linkup plays are excellent and more often than not he will score headed goals out of nowhere. He will be relishing this chance to re-link with Stoff, the ex-U21 manager.

9 Robert Alexander (Golden Eagles - Avon)

Age: 32
Positions: CAM, LM, RM, CM
Height: 176 cm
Weight: 74 kg

Alexander rose to the occasion exceptionally well when Henry Pandon was taken off injured, being the star of the show in the Eagle's Cup, along with Henry Butler. He has that ability to see goalscoring opportunities where others do not - this leads to him being played as a raumdeuter, or space invader.

10 Albert Foster (Goldlion Arsenal)

Age: 30
Positions: RW, LW, CF
Height: 169 cm
Weight: 62 kg

Foster is fast, and he knows it. At thirty years of age, Foster relies on pure speed and skill to get past and befuddle his poor opponents, usually leaving them in the dust with his magnificent speed. He often sets up counterattacks on the wing, which makes him a prime target for defenders.

16 Luke de Coubertin

Age: 24
Positions: CDM, CM, LM
Height: 176 cm
Weight: 74 kg

Luke de Coubertin. His performances on the pitch have marked him out as a remarkable talent, though at 24, some of that talent might have gone to waste. It still isn't too late - his few appearances at Tumbra's final Di Bradini Cup appearance set him out as a midfielder who could run, run, run and defend.

17 Jacob Craite

Age: 23
Positions: RM, RW, RF
Height: 177 cm
Weight: 73 kg

Craite hails from the northern islands of Lackland, where temperatures barely break freezing on a warm day. This has given him the extraordinary ability to function in pretty much every condition the game can throw at him. Adaptability, vision for the game and marking can all be great - but he can be a bit slow off the blocks.

18 Kevin Monaghan (Waterford City)

Age: 25
Positions: CDM, CM, CB
Height: 169 cm
Weight: 62 kg

Stoff's latest strategy seems to be putting quick, young people into the team to ensure the ball gets up the field, fast. Monaghan is known for his stopping skills, but is a little short.

19 Anna Colt

Age: 24
Positions: RM, LM
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 63 kg

Colt is the first female team member ever in the NT's short history - however, were she a male, she would have made the team much quicker. Her reflexes, small stature, acceleration and ability to play on both sides of the pitch make her extremely tough to catch - allowing her to zip through crowds of defenders without response.

20 Tricia Hunt

Age: 20
Positions: CDM, CB, CM
Height: 169 cm
Weight: 54 kg

Another female on the team, Hunt is another defensive midfielder that has always had an eye for the game. Her pivot position further down the field gives her the ability to overlook what is going on further up the field.

11 John Krajewski (Humboldt Albion)

Age: 25
Positions: ST, LW, LM
Height: 181 cm
Weight: 81 kg

Krajewski takes on the mantle of striker for this world cup cycle, in a team strangely bereft of Henry Pandon's guidance. He plays very differently from Pandon though,
something attributed to his Quebecois ancestry.

Having stepped into the role with great aplomb - scoring 17 goals in the qualifying cycle - the pressure is on Krajewski to keep scoring and send Tumbra through, however far he might take them. He knows that he has earned his place in the annals of history - but will he keep going? The technical striker cannot wait to find out.

21 Oliver Ganson (Rosenfeldplatz FC, Abanhfleft)

Age: 21
Positions: ST
Height: 176 cm
Weight: 54 kg

Here he is. The sporting legend. This is his time to shine. What have three years in Abanhfleft done to the lad from Ilcaster? Only time will tell.

22 Peter Jones (West Langham)

Age: 28
Positions: ST, CAM
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 64 kg

Jones is the third striker in Tumbra's striking options - a stalwart choice if there ever was one. While there was a chance for him to ascend to the number 21 jersey, Jones chose to remain with 22, as it was, to him, the more iconic choice. The days of him scoring at will in the Di Bradini Cup are long gone, but Jones has since evolved into a quiet, efficient striker with a deadly right foot.

FIELD FORMATION

TEAM HISTORY
This is the sixth soccer/football tournament of any kind that Drawkland has officially competed in in the multiversal stage. After Qualifying for World Cup 77, the Kick Corps has pretty much quelled any doubts about whether or not they're actually good, and they're searching for another great qualifying run and hopefully back-to-back qualifications.
This is the official form of the roster to feature a Reserve Roster in addition to the Main Roster. After only having a starting lineup for the GCoS, a test reserve roster for the IC, and a full Start/Reserve roster for the Baptism of Fire, the team has now settled on their official arrangement and lineup. The Main Roster has featured a few changes from earlier tournaments and the Reserve Roster has been locked in. This is the lineup personally selected by the Drawkian International Sporting Council (DISC) to represent Drawkland: those chosen are undeniably the best at what they do and excel under the team chemistry and dynamic. They may throw in some call-ups into the Reserve roster before qualifying actually begins, but this isn't set in stone yet.
Drawkian soccer, and indeed, sporting in general, is mostly offensive-minded. This is reflected in the style indicator and in the formation. Drawkian soccer has not really been exposed to outside influences, and thus may look or feel strange to those used to "normal" football. Nevertheless, the players are still good at what they do, and prize in an enduring game, moving the ball around nearly constantly and keeping energy going, aiming to tire out the opposing team. Of course, Drawkians aren't humans, but you can read about that elsewhere. Oh yes, and Drawkian Soccer is a female-only sport. This may change, but not for a *long* time. This is because Gridiron Football is all-male, and the other two major sports, Baseball and Basketball, are mixed-gender. If there's anything a Drawkian loves, it's even formats and symmetric paradigms, hence why things shook out like they did. There are male players, but they play abroad where it's more acceptable, but they still don't get much attention.
Most of the team, including the manager, are made up from home-grown talent, coming from the highest-quality teams. However, a few have branched out to foreign leagues, mainly those of Terranea in Rushmore, that of Ceni and the Isles of Avon. More information on the players is to come later.

OVERALL RECORD: 24-15-13

TEAM RECORDS
First Match: Drawkland 3-3 Averyickan City
First Win: Capital District, Ward 1 4-6 Drawkland
First Loss: Great Caledonia and North Hybernia 2-2 Drawkland (2-2 AET) [3-1 PKs]
Highest Score: Capital District, Ward 1 4-6 Drawkland
Lowest Score: Drawkland 0-0 Kosovakia (1-0 AET)
Best Win: Willinois 0-4 Drawkland
Worst Loss: Drawkland 0–4 Schottia
Most Important: Drawkland 3-2 Great Caledonia and North Hybernia
Best End Result: 3rd Place (Baptism of Fire 64)
Baptism of Fire 64: The big event, as it was referred to, was where Drawkland finally made their foray into the World Cup Cycle. Spirits were high going into the tournament and many were slating the Drawkians to take the whole tournament before it started. A 1-1 draw to Kernovi wasn't the start they imagined, but an 0-3 win on Turkmenbasyn followed by a 1-1 draw to Amnarei-asud was enough to send Drawkland to the knockout rounds. Winning 3-2 versus Ndaku in the first round, followed by an 0-2 win on Mriin was certainly expected, but a brutal 1-2 AET loss to none other than Amnarei-asud in the Semifinal sent the Corps to their second third place matchup, which was really not where they wanted to end up. However, they delightfully made light of the situation by beating the despised Great Caledonia and North Hybernia by a 3-2 margin to at least get bronze.
World Cup 77: And, being placed in Pot 7 for their first-ever World Cup Qualifiers, it was expected Drawkland to finish mid-table. Especially with the likes of the up-and-coming power of Bonesea, the Old Guard of Jeruselem, and the Top Pots of Barunia, it would be a long shot for Drawkland to qualify. But, somehow, on amazing circumstances that lasted all the way to the final minutes of the final match against Barunia, Drawkland managed to scrape through and qualify in their first ever shot at qualification. On to World Cup 77, where they sure got annihilated by other teams, only managing to get a single point by drawing Eura 0-0, before taking big L's to Osarius and Valladares.

Choose my Scorers: Yes
Choose Scoring Events: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Yes
Yellow Card my Players: Yes
Red Card my Players: Yes
Godmod Other Events: Yes
As far as these go, I'm fair game for anything. You should know what is and isn't drastic RP, and if you think your RP is on the drastic side, TG me first. But I'm still basically up for anything.
I'd like to request that injuries or cards don't do anything outside of the scope of a single game or maybe 2. Don't want anything tournament or cycle-ending. Red cards should be limited to late knockout stages, and I'd probably think that there should be no more than 2 players red carded per tournament.
Also, Ellzidan is a rather unique figure, as you'll come to find out, so you can go ahead and do some weirdness involving her if you'd like to make something less realistic occur. TG me if unsure.

Disclaimers of various sorts:
I don't know very much about soccer. If I RP something weird, it's because I have little to no experience with this sport. But whatever.
If you have any questions about anything involving me, this team, my nation, this competition, life, etc., feel free to telegram me.

The prosperous capital of Mercedini is the stage for the Mercedinian campaign for World Cup Qualification. The Zoloroni Sports City Stadium was built in 2012 and has been the national team's home stadium since it was built. The stadium holds over 61,000 people with visiting allocation being just less than a quarter of that (14,500). Mercedinians and visiting spectators who don't have tickets can have a drink in one of the many bars and pubs or they can chill in the World Cup FanZone where they can watch the matches on the big screens along with other football enthusiasts. Mercedinians are generally very peaceful and welcoming to tourists and will only get violent if they are provoked. Cuisine-wise, Mercedinian food is based on Italian cuisine, with flavourful pasta and rice dishes along with stuffed flatbreads and pizzas perfect for carnivores and vegetarians alike, local cuisine will also be available for tourists who want a taste of home. Finally, prices for Mercedinian products and services are generally very cheap thanks to low operating costs, government subsidies and free-trade deals with many countries around the globe. The local currency is the Yvroni (¥) and the current exchange rate is 1 Yvroni for every 1.53 NationStates Dollars.
