Vilitan Mountain Challenge Course, Rockii Coast, Vilita :: Cocoabo #23 was ready to attempt one final flying lap. The mark was just set on the board and it was set by the Vilitan driver Juracai Klianiota.

After a disappointing practice session in the rain where Klianiota's Novikov Racing machine could only muster the 17th best time. There was one additional driver on the course during the qualification round as Alyn Terfel finally showed up to join their Team Ignis teammate Lourdina Westgrens. Terfel's time of 1:35.323 was impressive but not as impressive as the lap put in by Klianiota who, at the moment, had bested all drivers with a lap of 1:35.135 - coming in half a tenth of a second faster than their teammate Luna Estrella.

It was a massive turnaround and moment of vindication for Klianiota who was on their cool down lap when Cocoabo #23 was sent out just minutes before the end of the session for one final attempt.

As Klianiota turned down the pit lane, Cocoabo #23 screamed down the front stretch and roared into the first turn. Despite turning fast times in various test sessions throughout the offseason; and despite turning the second fastest lap during Friday's practice session, it still seemed Cocoabo #23 wasn't getting any respect in the paddock. It seemed the nickname "Fast Cocoabo" hadn't yet stuck among Cocoabo #23's colleagues. Instead, things like "Daft Cocoabo" could be heard instead as drivers talked amongst themselves, not looking to include Cocoabo #23 or its training and enrichment team from Tropicorp and the Cocoabo Preservation Society in on the conversations.

Cocoabo #23 would show them up, however, screaming out of turn 14 and past the start finish line, Cocoabo #23 had turned the fast lap. Three one-hundredths of a second was all that separated Fast Cocoabo from Juracai Klianiota but it was enough to deny the Vilitan driver pole position and ensure the finest of starts to the campaign for the native Cocoabo.

While Fast Cocoabo was on pole, however, it was Klianiota's team; Novikov Racing, who looked the early power in the Constructors race as Tropicorp Engineering's other driver, Eastfield Lodge and SinVal-backed competitor Cesaro Whittaker failed to impress with a 13th place qualifying run. With much more expected from Whittaker after topping the charts in Friday practice, Tropicorp Engineers were left scratching their heads as to what went wrong in Saturdays dry conditions that put Whittaker at such a disadvantage.

Nevertheless, Cocoabo #23's effort was enough to bring joy into the Tropicorp Paddock. Likewise, it was a dream front row for the Vilita & Turori Motorsports officials on site as their talent pool was most definitely shining at the Vilitan Mountain Challenge Course with two of their drivers, Fast Cocoabo and Juracai Klianiota, set to kick off the first ever World Grand Prix 2 event from the front row - and hopefully leading the field into Turn 1 on course to a podium run.

Where was this speed yesterday??

Jack shook his head as he took the checkered flag, just unable to get around the 31 car. "Fuck!" was the first thing out of his mouth; had he qualified just a little faster, he could contend for a win. As it was, he was stuck outside the podium.

He pressed the radio button on the wheel. "I'm sorry guys, I'm sorry. This race was ruined before it started. If I had been a little faster yesterday we'd be on podium. Thanks for the awesome car today, guys."

His crew chief replied immediately. "Come off it, Jack, that was an excellent drive--just fantastic. Couldn't have asked for more from you. Great way to start the season, great job."

Jack hit the button again. "Only up from here, boys. Let's keep getting faster. See you in a bit."

The reassurance was nice, but he still felt guilty. If he had qualified one spot higher...

He rolled down the pits slowly, arriving at the paddock to the crew, who pushed him back in to the garage before he in-buckled himself and climbed from the car. He shook hands with each of his crew. "Fantastic, this car is. Really just grand."

"Your run was better," Marcus replied. "Seventeenth to fourth, man... that was awesome!"

"Well, that big wreck had a lot to do with it."

"Yea, but not just anyone could've dodged through it like that!"

"Man, I got fuckin' lucky on that one, didn't I?"

The crew laughed.

"Shit, I don't know how I managed through that."

"Well, ya did, and that's what matters."

Jack's phone blew up on a nearby wrench box. Marcus picked it up and tossed it to him. It was from Myra.

AMAZING. Just HAD to watch, despite you telling me not to--wasn't disappointed. I've had a lot of driver clients... never seen a run like that from so far back. Good work, my dear!

Jack blushed. Marcus and his crew immediately noticed and broke into laughter. He didn't like to be embarrassed, but on this occasion, he didn't care too much. You couldn't see it much under the helmet.

"So, it's raining again?"

"Apparently."

"Well, I know how to drive in the rain here from practice... Let's hope I'll be as fast as I was in practice."

"We'll see."

Timo got into the car and put his gloves on. Andrew waited until it was time, started the engine, and left the grid. Timo heared the other engines around him roaring, started to focus... And went into the warmup lap. He somewhat hated these warmup laps. They always steal a bit of the tension. When they were back at the start-finish straight, he started to focus again... And the lights went out.

Timo hadn't the best start, and Jack overtook. At the front of the grid, someone must have collided. Further back, crash happened too, maybe caused by the crash in front... He was too concentrated to not crash as well to think about that.

"What happened there?", he asked via team radio after getting through the first few corners.

"We aren't shure either, Timo. But the safety car is out. Safety car deployed. It'll go through the pitlane, as there's lots of debris on the start-finish straight."

While the safety car was out, the two Obey cars had to retire - maybe because of the crash, Timo didn't know. What he knew was that, after the safety car, he now was in 13th position, with Jack right in front of him. A few other cars crashed, some made severe mistakes, and some were overtaken on track by the two Katara Racing cars, who apparently had their speed from practkce back.

In lap 33, Timo was in fifth position, still right behind Jack. At the start finish straight, there still, was some debris from the crash at the start. Timo drove over on of the parts still lying there, without realizing it first. Until Andrew told him:

"It seems you are slowly losing pressure in the left front wheel. Puncture! You're slowly getting a puncture. We gotta change tires. Box box box."

"Oh, come on..."

Timo stopped and the crew started to change his tires, but they had problems getting off the right rear tire. When they finally finished, Timo was last of the not lapped cars.

"Well done, mate", Andrew said after Timo had crossed the start-finish line and seen the checkered flag.

"Could have been better. Fucking tire puncture ruined my race."

"Yeah, I'm sorry for that. But you've gained eight positions. That's not too bad."

Timo returned to the pit, and his crew rolled him into the garage. He got out of the car.

"That puncture was shit. But at least you still got three points. That's not too bad."

"Yeah, it's alright I guess. I mean, it was just one race. There are still lots of races left. And Jack still finished fourth I think?"

"Yeah, he did."

"That's great."

Timo went over to Jack, and offered him a high five.

"Great job, mate! Well done! I'm shure you could have finished on the podium. I could have done way better too, but I had a puncture, so... But yeah, it's a great result, especually what you did."

Mara came over to them as well.

"I'm really sorry for my... Emotional outburst yesterday. But well, 16th and 17th... But what you did today was simply fantastic! That's a great result, Jack. Brilliant. You were brilliant too, Timo, but well, your puncture was crap. Again, I want to apologize for my outburst. You both are great racing drivers. I mean, that's why I had offered you a comtract."

"Now that everyone has gathered around Jack, I think I'll come here too. Well done, Jack! Great job! So, anyways. The car seems to be good in the rain, but dry conditions... It's not good to be bad under dry conditions. So, Timo, Jack, that's why we want to run a test in Pänkili on wednesday. We need more data on a dry track, so the guys in the factory can improve our car. So, I think you should come there. The more we can drive, the better..."

Jannik was sitting in his car, starring at the red lights - after the warmup lap. One light out... Two... Three... Four... All of them!

Jannik had a good start, but right in front of him, Arml was involved in a crash. Jannik could just manage to not hit Armo's car. In his rear view mirror, he could see other cars crashing as well.

"Is Armo and everyone else okay?"

"Yes, everyone should be okay.", his race engineer answered. "Safety car deployed, because of the huge crash. Through the pitlane."

Jannik was second behind Lina Estrella when he lined up behinde the safety car. He followed the safety car through the pit a few times, until he heard:

"Safety car in this lap, safety car in this lap!"

At the restart, he could get beside Estrella, but was on the outside then and didn't manage to overtake her. The rain meanwhile got heavier. Maybe it had been a bad idea to start on intermediates, instead of full wets...

"It's going to rain more and more. Do you want to pit and change to full wets?"

"Hmm... No, I don't think the track is wet enough yet. Wait a few laps."

This turned out to indeed be a bad idea. In lap fifteen, a huge amount of water had gathered at the start finish straight. When he came there, Jannik hag aquaplaning, lost control of his car, and crashed into the wall. His car spun onto the grass beside the track. When it stopped, Jannik realized his right front wheel was missing.

"Fuck!"

He pushed the radio button.

"I'm sorry guys. I crashed."

He got out of the car, and threw his steering wheel away angrily. The crowds at the grandstands were... He wasn't shure if that could be called cheering... They were making noises. Luckily, it wasn't a long way back into the garage.

"You were right.", he told his crew. "I should have changed to full wets. It was my mistake..."
If you want to do that, you can call us Omnidirectional Timor as well...

LIVE: WGP2 Vilitan Challenge

Cal: ''Welcome to live broadcast of the first WGP2 race this season on Ultrasports 1, we are in Vilitan Mountain Challenge Course. Weather in here is quite nasty as we can witness, it has been raining for most of the day. Today we have 22 drivers, all of them have victory in their minds. I'm Cal Daughton and here with me is Andre Masters.

Andre: ''Good day to everyone, and indeed, weather is pretty bad. It was much nicer during yesterday's qualification where, unfortunately, Dom Falepeau did not do that well and has to start at grid spot 20 today.''

Cal: ''So, before we start, let's take a look at what we might expect today. During yesterday's qualification, Tropicorp's driver Cocoabo #23 showed great lap times at his home track and starts at top today. He is followed by Klianota and Estrella from Novikov Racing, Armo Lehto from Academy Racing and Lourdina Westgrens who drives for Team Ignis.''

Andre: ''How can a cocoabo even drive? I mean... okay, never mind. Fans also believe Cesaro Whittaker and Jannik Markner may fight for top spots today. They did show great times during friday's test.''

Cal: ''Well, everyone is ready for the race which is about to start any moment now. 3...2...1... and we have a green flag!

Andre: ''Lot of pushing at the pit lane, drivers go to the first corner. Jack Kelly Pushing forward. Lots of overtaking going on here, Falepeau remains at the back for now.

Cal: ''Oh no! What did just happen? Lehto collides with Klianiota. No, not Darlington! I mean...''

Andre: ''I have no idea what just happened, but they're out. No! Wait, Terfel! Terfel loses control aswell!''

Cal: ''Kozel manages to get through, but now! Virzi trying to get through! Bilbostegi and Falepeau! No! They Don't make it! Falepeau is on the gravel! Will he manage to escape? No! He ends up in a wall! Falepeau is out!

Andre: ''We definitely need to see a replay of what the hell just happened. Six cars out of the game after this crash, and the race has not even properly started yet!

Cal: ''Well, all we know for sure is that Falepeau won't be crossing the finish line today.''

Andre: ''Safety car is on the track. We will be right back after a quick break.''

Junixwagen's pit garage, shortly after the crash.

Falepeau walked into the garage, took his helmet off and threw it into the corner. He was seriously pissed. Falepeau sat down on a chair and looked at the floor. Was his head full of thoughts? No. Actually, he didn't even realize yet what had just happened. Hans, one of his crew members, came to him and put his hand on Dom's shoulder.

''Look, It wasn't your fault. It was impossible to get through there in one piece,'' he said.

''Yeah, I know,'' Dom replied, still looking into emptyness. Obviously it wasn't his fault. While Dom was definitely not the fastest driver in lineup, he wasn't one who would crash because of something as simple as a wet track. It was just that there were way too many cars together in one place and turning off the track was the best he could do, otherwise he would've ended up crashing into someone else.

Hans nodded at Dom before going back to do his stuff. Dom stood up and looked outside, just to see a tow truck pulling his car away from the track. His first WGP2 race had ended in less than 20 seconds.

"For sure," Jack replied as he finally got around to taking off his helmet. "I mean, when you come from the neck of the woods I do, ye damn well learn how to drive in the rain. But we gotta be more consistent." He took a cigarette from the work bench and lit it. "Just... I don't get the massive difference in speed. You should be slower in the wet, and yet... there we were, thumbs up our asses in the sunshine." He took a drag and unzipped the top of his firesuit. "Definitely something we have to fix."

Emile Yeldeska's Office
Eeiolo, Krossa

Emile Yeldeska was formerly an agent to Anna Niskanen before retiring in 1997 after somehow not attracting any other hotshot young racers. He had recently came out of retirement to coach Nikolai Niskanen before becoming his agent once he hit 18. There, together with whatever staff he could find from years ago, found him a crew to get officially racing in Krossa. It had been over two years since that happened, and Emile and taken turns as Nikolai's crew chief occasionally over that period. Now, after talks with his staff, the Krossan National Formula Racing League, and the parents of Nikolai, he planned to go international.

Nikolai opened the door to the office building and walked in. The receptionist looked up from her laptop. "Nikolai? Emile is waiting for you in his office,"The receptionist told him and waved whilst Nikolai went up the stairs into Emile's office, giving a knock.

"Come in!"Yeldeska announced and Nikolai opened the door. Emile gestured to the chair that had been pulled out in front of his desk. Nikolai took a seat and looked at Emile. "So, my parents told me about some surprise you had,"Nikolai told him, turning to grab a cup and fill it up with water. He was in a suit, something he normally never did but considered it would be something good to do on this occasion. His father told him it this was very important.

"Surprise? Thats how the phrased it? Hmm, well, look at this."When Nikolai had sat down Emile turned the laptop to reveal a email. "I've got you into the World Grand Prix Junior Edition for the slightly younger racers, late teens and early twenties, stuff like that. All I need is a yes from you,"Emile smiled.

"World? World!?"Nikolai smiled. Thank you!He thought. "World. You're climbing the ladder, Nikolai. So what do you say?"

"Yes, of course. Thank you!" Nikolai shook his hands together excitedly. Emile nodded and typed something before clicking his mouse and looking back at Nikolai. "You'll be out of Krossa in 3 days max. You're entering late so don't worry about missing the first race. You'll need to get a team first. I'm thinking of having you do something flashy in two days before you leave. I'll probably go with you as a crew chief or something, and I know some good guys from awhile back that might be interested in helping you out from here in Krossa. That'll be my job, but don't worry about."

"Thanks again. What do you mean something flashy though?"Nikolai looked at his 'agent'. Emile began to speak. "Well, we have some options. You can call the guys over at Tuynuo Racing and get yourself the track for the day and try to do something fancy...or theres the receptionist downstairs you probably met earlier, Irene, she's new, came here about a week ago. She wants to become an editor, so we can have her do some digging and fish out some of your greatest moments. I believe theres two spots left in two different teams. If you can give them something then hopefully they'll bite. Give them your best kid."

Nikolai nodded and after more talking left the building. The next day he went back to meet with his current team and crew in Krossa, telling them about what he was doing. Nikolai wanted to get into talks with the two teams. He had confronted Emile Yeldseka about this, and Emile said he'd try to contact them. In the meantime Irene from Yeldseka's office had mixed up different clips from Nikolai's professional Krossan racing career.

Niskanen tried to get one last demonstration/speed test on the track of Tuynuo Racing, the nearest race organization to where he lived which had a track next to its HQ, however he found out that there was a race going on. The two teams he had the possibility of signing with had tracks of there own, probably, which would probably allow Niskanen to try out with them. Nikolai wondered if he would have a choice on who to sign with, if they were both interested. Either way Nikolai, his agent, and his agents staff had done everything possible in their three day span. At the end of the day Nikolai had packed up his stuff, said goodbye to his parents, and got on his flight. He always dreamed of this.

Vilitan Mountain Challenge Course, Rockii Coast, Vilita
Race Day

The lights went out for Rebecca and the auto-launch system of the Chase Cutter proved effective. In the rain, and in the first impression race, you needed every assist you could. The cars came cruising into Turn 1 and it looked like it'd be an exciting race.

That is, until all hell broke loose entering the boot. Estrella passes Lehto and Klianiota. The latter attempts to guard the position but is unable and also hits Lehto, who was about to overtake as well. The rain is too heavy for anyone to see anything and before Terfel knows it he's involved as well. Kozel is involved and is able to keep going, but with the car in its current state it doesn't look like it'll last long. Rebecca makes it through the turn and hears a loud bump. Hoping for the best, she hits the accelerator coming out of the turn... only to get no power. The rear suspension was broken.

"No, no, NO! For f*ck's sake! That's our race over."

Rebecca pulls off of the course and tosses the wheel away. The worst part of the crash was that it was in a monsoon- at least when Rebecca drove GT cars she had a roof over her head. She attempted to look back at the crash scene and saw nearly half of the field gone.

"Call someone to pick us all up. I'd be surprised if they didn't red flag this."

"They're not doing that, Rebecca. No major debris on the track, so it's just a safety car."

"I'd say we should all just drink away our memory of this race, but alcohol is illegal in Esmerel. Just... tell me Urdaneta's fine."

"He is, and he'll probably get points."

"OK. Not all bad. Team effort. But let's just forget this race ever happened."

---

Meanwhile, for Obey Sport GP a horrid feeling sunk in the garage as soon as the crash occurred. Both of their cars came out of the crash with damage- Kozel's car had horribly aligned wheels and Virzi's car looked like it was about to blow up. The mechanics worked their hardest to fix both cars as they came into the pits under safety car- but Kozel lost drive on the second lap and Virzi came into the pits on lap 4 under his own accord, saying the car had become undriveable.

It was nice to see the cars had enough reliability to attempt to continue going after a crash like that. But there was one big problem.

Obey had accepted they would start close to the back. So Vilita was supposed to be a long test to see how the car worked, and where it needed to be improved.

Instead, they had come up with nothing because of the crash. The cars were loaded onto the transport for speedy delivery back to Point Capaldi for improvement. There were always more chances.

---

Overall, the way most people felt about the race was not that good. For half of the field, their first impressions were over after 20 seconds.

It was truly a day to forget.

"Aaaaand breathe," came through Axel's headphones, fresh from the track. Luna Estrella, her rooster tail towering high in the moist Vilitian sky, had sealed the team's first points in WGP2, and put a lukewarm end to a tremendously tough weekend for the infant Abovian outfit. Sven, clapping happily, patted Axel on the back to ease him away from his chair. Axel, though, flopped forwards onto the console in front of him, closing his eyes and letting his heart rate stabilize and his blood pressure lower. For this reason, Sven was forced to walk into the garage, congratulate Luna, and sit down on his own to list the team's areas to imrpvoe of the weekend; a sort of business objectives list, if you will. Sven powered on his laptop as the champagne rained down from the podium above and the drivers' happy stomps reverberated through the garage. Soon enough, he'd opened an empty word document, and got to business. He decided it would be best to start with the negatives, and move upwards towards the positives to end his list on a high note. He began with big bold letters in red:

CONS

First point: the car. Sure, it had held up well, it hadn't suffered mechanical issues and it had scored points, but it was clear it was severely lacking in the wet. He'd heard reports of the rear stepping out and a lack of traction on damp tarmac, and the results definitely showed. On the utterly soaked practice session, the team withered away to 12th at best. In the race, not only could Luna fare as well as sixth, but Juracai's mysterious accident with Lehto could have been provoked in part by the car's instability. Trying to defend from Estrella's stellar (ha) launch, Klianiota swerved to the side and lost the rear, according to the TV footage. And yet, despite the turbulent runs in the wet, the dry, sticky surface for qualifying proved to be Novikov Racing's proving ground. It was clear to him that a wet track test was long overdue. With heavy rain forecasted in Lintulahti the following week, they couldn't have asked for a better chance at improving the cars in the puddles.

Second point: Ju-

Sven stopped.

He couldn't bring himself to write 'Juracai Klianiota'. The guy had surprised the entire team with second in qualifying and, yes, he crashed at the start, but it wasn't stupid. He had a special fire in him, a particular passion, a spectacular desire to win on the track, and that's what the team needed. They needed their wild youngster. In fact, they had two. Some might say they had one too many, but Sven was sure that Axel would share his sentiment: there was nothing juicier than two top drivers battling it out in one team. He could only hope the two of them would soon find themselves in a situation where they really had to fight tooth an nail with each other.

By the time he began thinking of positives from the weekend, Axel was already lucid and walking around the garage under his own power, albeit light headed and with a bit of a bruise near his right eyebrow. Sven transferred the document to him and walked towards the drivers, Luna relaxing after her finish and Juracai reviewing the data from his car at launch.

"Fellas," Sven began, "we've got work to do. Novikov Racing will be holding a wet weather test at HQ this week, so start hauling ass and arrive at Lintulahti by Tuesday. See you around!"

He turned away and strolled towards Terho, who was examining Juracai's car's wreckage, and began taking note of what he reckoned had to change on the car. Novikov Racing was going all in.

Jenna Vandersen started her first WGPC race in 14th place. She could barely see the purple and red of Jang's 13 car in 5th. This was going to be a challenging course, especially with a packed field. The curves had beautiful angles that would take a fine touch to get the best times out of, especially in the rain. Jang and Jenna would be using every bit of the knowledge they'd learned training during the lead up to the season. They'd mostly figured their lines out by now after the practice session and qualifying.

Xiaopeng was happy with his lines. Jenna was not happy with the 14th best time. She'd figure out a better way to cut through the course.

Suddenly, Jang's voice cut in over the channel.

=/\="Heckuva mess, dodge left... Left!"=/\=

Jenna took in the scene of cars and debris strewn all over the track. She controlled speed and cut a path through the stopped vehicles. She dodged a car or two that were crawling away from contact. Jang went silent over the radio. He was shaken. There was a near miss situation as Xiaopeng saw the initial impact just ahead of him.

He had barely enough time to pull hard and accelerate around the incident before they blocked the lane and forced him to slide into them. A few other cars squirted past the spun racers.

Jang took a deep breath once he saw Jenna in his rear view several cars back. He was worried she might've gotten hurt. "Big sis, don't let the mountain get you."

The Baroness grinned under her helmet. "You know I'm from Central Vangaziland." That was an area known for moderate hills and curvy roads.
----

The entire dynamics of the field changed after the restart. The cars set off on their lines. Packs began to form. Top 5 cars rotated in and out of the first 3 spots. With the big incident, the track became more open as the race went on. There were not a ton of lapped cars to slow things down. This made for an aggressive race.

After the last pit stop, two groups jostled for the lead. The first four kept fairly close. Shinno Soukuba, Cesaro Whittaker, Jack Kelly and Jenna Vandersen fought for the lead. Jenna had been holding in second. She took the lead coming off turn 13 on approach to the grandstand straightaway.

Once she got up front, she had 7 laps to hold the lead. It was not easy. She almost lost the lead coming out of a tight turn 3. The VMR chassis pulled ahead though, just enough to force Soukuba back behind her.

"Who is that?" Jessica called in over the radio in an almost frantic voice. It was more of a rhetorical query. The adrenaline was pulsing through her system. She was right on the edge. It wasn't easy for her to drive this fast. She was sweating profusely, tired and sore. Part of her wanted to give in. But she fought.

"That's MSA.... SinVal", said the principal, Ms. Hattieson.

Xiaopeng finally gained a bit of distance from a battle of his own.

"I think I lost that bird", said Jang. It sounded like chatter, but it was actually shared tactical information. The drivers were in constant contact. They'd race together. There may have been two cars, but there was one team.

Jang had fought the entire race to try to get into the top 3, but he failed. His car was set a bit differently, with more give in the suspension. The street racer has a tendency towards the drift. Drifting doesn't come into play here in full, but some habits are hard to lose. This was 10 times true in the rain. That drifting background may have helped him get into the top 5, as he wasn't afraid of the loose feel.

Jenna's car was just a bit more dialed in. The battle went up to the final straightaway. The #26 car went for it, trying to maneuver around Vandersen's #33. Jenna started to move for the block, but that would eat too much energy. She had to trust the car. Soukuba was creeping forward by the millimeter. The finish line was approaching. It would almost be a photo finish.

The third and fourth place cars were less than two seconds behind. It was a dramatic end to an eventful race.

Jenna managed to hold off the pack. Cameras captured her climbing out the car. Her frizzy hair fell from her helmet as she took it off and got a drink of water. A group met her and they moved to the podium.

There was a surreal feeling in her head as she stood on top of the podium. She wasn't sure if she should feel down because of the crash. She hadn't heard if everyone was okay yet. But she was pleased with the result, especially after the fight to get it left her completely drained. It was in this tired state that Jang Xiaopeng walked up with the bottle of champagne. It was smaller than the large 3L bottles found in the WGPC.

In this confused state she took the bottle, tilted it at an angle and started removing the wire cage. She pocketed it and rotated the bottle until the cork gently slid up into her hand. She didn't let it pop, instead opening it like a Baroness would at a party.

A few awkward seconds went by before Jenna noticed a few strange looks. "Oh the race thing! I spaced."

That only drew more odd looks as she was literally standing on the winner's podium. Many wondered how she could 'space'.

"I'm just tired!" She plugged it with a finger and shook it, causing bubbling right away, some of which escaped. Once she moved her finer, the fizzy alcohol shot out of the bottle, into the air and down onto the trio.

"We're good", she said... "Saved it."

Soon after, it was time for the post race interview. There would also be a conference later for Hattieson and the two drivers. In the mean time, a reporter caught Vandersen framed with the track and podium.

"How do you feel about winning the WGP2's inaugural race?"

"It's an honor. Some may see this as a developmental league. But no driver feels that way. Not on race day. So it's a fight."

"We saw how the lap one incident affected several drivers. What effect do you think the smaller field has on your result's meaning?"

"True, the win is under context. There are a few drivers that our team's been wanting to scout and test against. My view is that I'll take the points where we can get them. I'm sure we'll have our incidents later."

The team's principal echoed similar statements. "We never want any incidents on the track. I feel we got enough data that a few missing drivers won't make too much of an impact. We're looking more at how our cars are running anyway. It was a good race for us."

Hattieson also announced that there would be a staffing change. An assistant principal would handle much of the management and press. She was shadowing for her own team one day. The name would be revealed later in the week.

When asked what motivated her to win, Jenna looked starry-eyed and smiled for a minute. "Somebody gave me advice", she said coyly. When asked who, she redirected and mentioned her sponsors.

Eventually, one of Vannish Motors Racing's most hectic days had ended. The team would pack everything up and catch an evening flight to the next location. The two drivers were in good spirits. They sat near each other, exchanging stories and jokes. Their laughter irritated the crew chief who sat nearby.

They giggled quietly as he returned to sleep and began to snore louder than they'd ever spoken on that flight.

Nexus Racing HQ, ???
12th of July

Timothy Guard stands outside the complex of Nexus Racing’s headquarters, relaxed.

Nexus Racing’s first foray into WGP2 racing had been, to put it bluntly, absolutely terrible. No surprise Race One win like Marika’s in their opening WGPC event; instead, Rebecca had dropped out on the first lap and, while Lukar had made up places at the back, he had been limited by the fact that his Chase Cutter, once more, had had to switch to pure Imagielectric power as a result of the rain and therefore lose top speed on a track which, the team knew from last year, that was absolutely crucial. Certainly, Victoria apparently had a solution to that now - using the IASG’s Imagikinetic convertor to push water away from the tyres as they moved towards it, creating dry track exclusively for the four points of contact of each of their two cars and allowing the team to run normal tyres, a huge advantage over the rest of the field - but even so, this was not the race that the team had wanted.

The only potentially positive thing that had come out of it was the information that Rebecca wouldn’t have to get used to the Wardship’s alcohol prohibition. Furthermore, the next circuit is utterly and completely unsuited to the Chase Cutter’s capabilities.

Still, Guard isn’t too worried. After all, poor performance in a single race might well be a fluke. In fact, given that the current Chase Cutter’s basis is last year’s championship winner, it probably is; the other teams’ development is unlikely to have outpaced their own. Furthermore, the team already has a fan presence in Audioslavia - Ryker claimed his season-wide victory there, after all.

The Project Manager of Nexus Racing looks down at his tablet, specifically at the Nexus Racing app installed on it - fully custom-coded by Victoria. The whole interface looks very much like a cheaply made management simulator; that same interface, however, allows Timothy to access and control almost every facet of the running of the team, should he wish. For now, he sticks to the main tab, detailing a list of outstanding objectives, messages and employees needing assignment to various tasks - things that need doing, in essence.

Top of the list is a message from a certain member of the Lane family, confirming essentially what he already knows: Jacob Gibbons, Crossbay Circuit being apparently complete, has asked the Nimban driver to go to break in the course as well as to practice for his showing and lap setting before the WGP2 race there. He taps out a message of acceptance, unworried; he and Martin hadn’t been doing much anyway, not to mention the fact that this would also be good preparation for the true Nimban Grand Prix that would hopefully be taking place in the next season of the WGPC.

As for everything else… Design team is working on improving the aerodynamics around the rear wing and wheels… Rebecca and Valen are continuing the attack training…

Lukar.

Nexus Racing’s leader grins in anticipation. He writes out a message to his newest driver, then tweaks his timetable, replacing a daily medium-sized post-lunch block of non-descript ‘Driver Training’ with ‘Driver Training - Imagination’.

Oh, the fun we will have, you and I…

To fully understand the story of Vannish Motors, one would have to start at WGPC 14. The story of Jessica Franssen is well told. There is a little more to it than a few wins. She came into the season while one team was dominating the field and another talented racer was fighting hard to topple them. In her stretch of 6 races, she won 3. 2 other races were top 10 finishes. She brought an underachieving team from the bottom of the field to 2nd in the Constrictors'. She finished the season ranked 4th.

This was in the context of the battle between the black cars and a challenger. Meanwhile, Jessica Franssen slipped past the entire fray and outscored every driver on the field throughout that six race stretch, just barely. Many credited the MRT car, but she literally drove the same car another driver scored 4 points in six races with. Franssen went with the narrative and credited her sponsor MRT. Her wins got in the way of those other three drivers who fought for the Cup.

There was no sign of her slowing down. She finished that season with back to back 1st place finishes at Krytenia and Audioslavia. She gained many fans that season.

This is the story people remember pieces of with the #25 car. After this, Jessica signed to Vannish Motors. They sent her to the Cross Rally Championships. This was meant to be a regional series, but was quickly swamped by representatives from several top teams.

The two stages finished as follows:
Douglas Plains
Stage 1 - 3rd
Stage 2 - 1st
Stage 3 - 3rd
Total - 1st
New Gloucester Inter-city
Stage 1 - 2nd
Stage 2 - 5th
Stage 3 - 1st
Final Rank - 1st of 13

Vannish Motors picked Franssen's brain for all sorts of details. She helped tailor the car along with rally expert's from around the world. She finished the event with 44 points.

Franssen showed she was more than just a one trick pony. There was something about her that was different. Her influence began to rub off on the company. Vannish Motors is not all about the next technological fad.

Vannish Motors is about quality, engineering and reliability. Some of their cars just happen to be quick as well. Vannish Motors Racing Division, or VMR, is not interested in fads, gimmicks or temporary success. This was all about scouting, development and planning for the future.

VMR withdrew from WGPC 15 because they could not recruit a strong enough second driver to really give the team a chance for the Cup. Franssen couldn't do it alone.

"We weren't just going for a 5th place team finish", said Vanessa Hattieson. "We'd either make a run or we wouldn't. We just didn't feel the timing was right, so we made a withdrawal. We've negotiated a few things since then. We've also been scouting and stepping up our development program."

The VMR WGP2 team was a good example of this development. They took two raw drivers that they trained for about a year, molded in certain habits and tested them against obstacles and opponents. It was all a gamble, a beautiful experiment. It was as much about the people as it was about the machine.

The VMR engine is a beautiful thing. It has a very high pitched, squealy exhaust note. The engine sings when it revs and whines when if turns down. The company runs the same naturally aspirated V10 in the WGP2 that it uses in HGTC GT2 events. The exhausts are aggressive, especially coming out of Vangaziland where companies refine sound aesthetics.

They could go with a V12, but fuel economy comes into play. Pit stops are a major part of VMR's strategy in every series. Again, it's more about the staff than the equipment. VMR dug deep into domestic T1 and T2 leagues to pull some of the top crew. This wasn't cheap. It may have been why VMR hasn't secured a second big name driver.

VMR was also testing the same 7-speed dual clutch in Hodori's GT2 division. One of the goals there is to get into GT1, where they'll build a new car from the ground up. The company has been working on certain designs and will have a car ready in case of promotion. Meanwhile, they are making a serious run for the GT2 title.

VMR brought in a second car to run alongside Stansen, Lark and Schorebrook, who ran a rather underwhelming first season. They got off to another slow start in this current season. Over the past three weeks, VMR has crept up the leaderboards. They went from not being in the top 10 to tied for 1st in GT2 Team Points.

The 51 car had three top 3 finishes in a row. Imoju and Schmitt had taken that car to 1st in Driver's Points. It was a dramatic shift. The season was far from over. None of this had any determination on the future. But this is the story of Vannish Motors. It has only just begun.

It was announced that the new mystery assistant principal would be none other than Jessica Franssen. Just when it looked like she would slide out of relevancy, VMR pulled the celebrity stunt to bring their good luck charm into the WGP2. She was excited about the chance to learn how to properly principal a team in the training environment that is the WGP2. Hattieson will still make financial and staffing decisions. Franssen will shadow her, manage certain things, chime in over the radio and handle the press.

"Maybe I'll principal a team one day when I'm old", Franssen told a late night talk show host. When the red-haired elderly man told her she will be an acting principal at the moment she said, "A real team!" The crowd laughed, as if she had said VMR wasn't a real team.

She went red and tried to wave it away, using the old line, "you know what I meant."

The truth was the staff at Vannish Motors were in good spirits and were looking to enjoy the season. There would be rivalries, but Jessica Franssen nor any of the staff at VMR held any grudges. Just like on the race track, VMR is looking forward to the future. The company has goals that will take some time to accomplish.

The win in WGP2's first run didn't mean as much to VMR as some may have thought. It was a shortened field. This stretched the track and changed all sorts of variables. VMR also didn't get to test against certain teams.

The drivers looked at things differently. They didn't care about development and strategy. They wanted to run the best lines and fastest times. There could be some big contracts coming up. VMR would need drivers good enough to push potential WGPC and HGTC GT1 teams into a run. The road ahead was long. VMR was in it for the haul. A driver like Jang Xiaopeng could move from pro-amateur to career professional. That's what the season meant to him. Future sponsorships were on the line too. That included sponsorship money for his street cars in the underground tuner scene that he's tied to.

Of course, VMR was hoping to push the GT2 team into the sole lead. VMR WGP2 wanted to use the points from this early win as part of a long term strategy. All of the above is the story of VMR's testing, from their first scouting prospect & team up to a decent current run. All of these drivers knew they were a part of something different. This was all a plan for the future.

Nikolai Niskanen's phone rang, causing him to glance at it. Emile Yeldeska. Nick answered it.

"Done anything for the teams yet?"Emile asked over the phone. The agent bit his lip. Nick answered,"No, I took the day off. But I'll do something. How does an email sound?"

Emile cleared his throat. "Well, yes. Go for it. Don't forget the videos we put together. Remember, give them your best and they'll give you the best, well, that they can. The two teams that you can possibly sign with are Yogutz Lantzia or Nadakei Sport AYDP. Good luck."

"Thanks, Cya."Nick hung up after goodbyes and the like before turning and getting to his desk, sitting down and propping open his laptop. He signed in and composed an email.

Hello! My name is Nikolai Niskanen, racer for the Krossan Grand Racing League and recently accepted WGP2 driver. Me and my KGRL agent have been discussing topics related to the WGP2, and I need a team. I've found out that both your teams are absent a second driver, and I was wondering if we could organize an event or something that would allow me the chance to fill that gap for one of you. For more information about who I am you can read about my career and credentials on the KGRL website. Here's a compilation of video clips related to my racing highlights. I hope you're interested.

Lemos knew that feeling. Start a season by leaps and bounds, no time or knowledge of the car enough, with drivers confirmed in the last hour. It was like that with Mick Schramm and Bitten Heroes. Now it was repeated with Alyn Terfel and Team Ignis. With so many nice people in local motorsports, like Bastian Alcaraz, and the bosses insisted on looking for outside drivers. It was incomprehensible.

But at that moment, he was definitely more optimistic than before. Never before had he seen someone as addicted to the simulator as himself. Alyn Terfel was only three years younger and had the same impetuous personality. Although he had abandoned the previous race because of the confusion on the first lap, he was following the training without complaining. Until ten at night. He was really a man with a lot of dedication.

"Hey, you need to get some rest too. It's a good thing you're living in the X-PRO centre, and that you have learned quickly to control the simulator without help, but that's no excuse to spend the night training, missing sleep and meals. Let's get out of here, eat something. And if you want to drive, you should do it properly. A simulator is good, but you need to feel the road." Lemos said, distracting Terfel from the training session he was setting up on the computer.

They entered in Lemos' Camden Altis, a 2-door Coupe built in that exact building (before Camden and Cygnus buy the X-PRO brand and reassign it to Motorsports) and left. The S32, road between Brax and Kasandora was calm at night, since the primary access to the southern city was the A2 road, in Sirenia.

"Look, since Kasandora is closer to reach than Brax from the X-PRO centre, we can even use S32 to race in our way to dinner. Just a click, and look, we have a new car plate." Lemos presented Terfel the race configuration of his own car.

"Nice, but you know I'm a police officer and could arrest you for this?"

"In Ariannin, not in Lisander. And you were a street racer before it, so this is your element as much as is the mine. I saw the videos before Seigen managed to block them. You're a street driver, and you know how it happens. Even if the police catches us, they can't do anything. Some calls and we are free with the excuse of "testing a new road race for the Autosports Board". Cool down... Some friends may appear now. Some known friends..."

Armo Lehto

It wasn’t like the kid to crash. He’d spin sometimes and make the same mistakes any other young driver would, but it was rare that he would end up in the wall or with some kind of other problem that took him out of the race completely. When he did crash, it was usually in noteworthy fashion, like with his Prototype Series collision with Luna Estrella that nearly saw both of them lose their chance at the title when they both DNFed.

This wasn’t one of those memorable moments, or if it was, it wasn’t for the right reasons. It was only the first lap, and he really should have done better than he did, but… Ever since the start to the season, and the private testing before that, he’d had a hard time slipping into the focused mode that he would go in when he was having his biggest successes.

Minutes after it happened, the crash was still living on vividly in his head.

“I’m at full lock,” he remembered saying.

“Stay calm, focus on keeping the car under control-” started his race engineer, Cameron Sanctis.

“Fuck, I’m about to hit Kilaniota.”

He tried his hardest to get out of the collision course, but as his brakes stayed locked headed into the turn, he couldn’t keep himself from cutting off the angle of the other driver and ensuring that he would crash too, as Armo slammed into the wall. “Fuck’s sake.”

“Don’t feel like you need to put the blame on yourself, Armo. Brakes issues are on us, unfortunately. Looks like we just have to get back to the drawing board with this new model.”

“Wouldn’t have locked if I wasn’t defending my position so aggressively.”

His mind snapped back to the present, where he had a doctor checking him for signs of a concussion because of the force of the impact. The doctor held a hand up and made him follow his index finger, and made him guess how many fingers he was holding up, checked his pupils, and did all of the typical tests before finally clearing him and allowing him to head back to the Academy Racing garage.

“How do you feel?” Grayson Chase asked upon seeing him, while the mechanics examined the wrecked car to see how much of it would need to be rebuilt. They really didn’t need this. The car was still under development. The last thing they needed was to go behind on that because of needing to do extra repairs.

“Physically? Fine. Mentally? I’m a wreck.”

“Too much pressure to race in a big name series?”

“It’s just hard adjusting… To everything. I’ll get over it. But give me time.”

“In a series like this, time is one of the things that we don’t have.”

“Yeah,” Armo agreed, before sitting down and watching the mechanics take apart the wreck. “But I don’t think we really have a choice, either.”

Luna Estrella

Luna had been distraught in the days since her seventh place finish, which was worse than her finish outside of the top three in testing. She hadn’t been angry, hadn’t been emotional and hot blooded like usual. Just quiet, and visibly upset. The competitor in her didn’t like the way things were going so far, and she definitely felt out of her element racing for a team that wasn’t owned by her stepmother.

As much as she had grown to hate that woman, she realized now how much Ella Estrella and her racing pedigree had helped her. Even Zhen, who hated her guts, had influenced her positively. Now she was away from both of them, and she was away from Miya and from her rivals like Noah Chancellor and Armo Lehto. Everything was foreign, from the series to the country that she was living in now, and it was suffocating.

Now, the team was holding wet weather testing and asking even more of her than she was already doing. She’d expected that when she learned the details of the job, and racing prototypes was how she had made her name and had her success, but now that she was actually in the moment, this was harder than she thought it would be.

Before the test would start, she made her way to Axel, approaching him casually and not yet wearing her race suit. She was asking this on a personal level, and not necessarily as a driver. “Can I ask for a favor?”

“It’s been hard adjusting to this place and adjusting to… Well, not racing for ART and its subsidiaries. The adjustment thing is why I’m not doing well, because like you already know, the Syndicate is pretty different from most places. I’m also not used to the car just yet, since the cars I drove before were closed wheel,” she started.

“So I’m asking if I can bring in my coach, Maria Cattaneo, as my race engineer. Look, I feel like I’m drowning right now, and I need to change something if I’m going to have success in this series. Help me out here on your side, and I’ll do my best to do my part and bring us some wins.”

Wednesday

The Katara Racing cars and team had arrived in Pänkili to run some tests. They needed to find out why they had been so slow in qualifying, when it was dry, but much faster in practice and race, when it was raining. Andrew was explaining the drivers how they what they were going to do:

"First of all: it's dry today. The sun is shining, it's 30 degrees... That's perfect. We need to get data from a dry track, because that is apparently where we have ro improve. On a dry track. Alright, so, first, you two are going to drive a few laps like you would in practice. Not too slow, not too fast, simply driving. Then you'll return to the pits, we'll give you new tires, and you drive out again. Of course, you can get new tires before that, this is no competition. But need to be as close to an actual race weekend as possible. So, anyways. You then go out again, with new tires, and drive a few fast laps. As fast as you can, like in a qualifying. Push like crazy. Then, you will line up at the start, and do like you would in a race. We're gonna simulate an actual race. You drive 50 laps, change tires at least once. When we then have simulated every session of a race weekend, we will spray some water at the track, to have wet conditions. We then have something to compare, maybe it will help us. Alright? I know this is a lot, and maybe a bit exhausting, but, you get driving experience in the car and we will probably by able to improve the car a lot. So, yeah..."

Timo got into the car and hit the track for the first, practice-like test. He driven a lot on this track, so he was somewhat bored. He liked the qualifying-like a bit more, as he could finally push. And the race-like test... That was something he had never done before. Shure, long run tests are nothing unusual, but they did an actual start. He understood that the team could eventually get some information from that though. After 50 laps of race speed, he returned to the pits.

"The tests so far had gone well. We will now water the track. Then you just drive around a bit, so we got something to compare on the same track."

After having done that, Timo (and Jack too) returned to the pits again.

"Alright. We got some usefull data from that. It will really help the guys in the factory improve the car. Minor things might already be improved in Audioslavia. The main problem, if there is any, are probably the aerodynamics. I mean, for an engine or electronics, there is not that much of a difference between a dry and a wet track. So, that's what we're gonna work on. So, alright then, if nobody has anything to say anymore?"
If you want to do that, you can call us Omnidirectional Timor as well...

Crossbay Circuit, Nimbus Bay, the Nexus Wardship of Former Citizens of the Nimbus System
13th of July

The work is complete.

Jacob Gibbons stands at the cliff’s edge, gazing upon water-crossing section of the new track. To his mind it might well be compared to an airborne river of concrete; it streams out from the cliffs below him then twists and turns before plunging back into the solid dolomite rock. The only thing to break the illusion is the series of pillars holding the whole thing up but even those seem beautiful to the Minister for Sport: cast in curving brackets, connected back to back, rising from the sea floor to amidst the skies.

And all of it done at my hand. Not a bad legacy…

“Look at it!” The minister is snapped out of his reverie by a cheerful Heinrich, walking up behind him. “Magnificent, isn’t it? Still can’t believe how quickly we got it done, either - modern technology, eh?”

“Modern technology,” Jacob agrees, turning his head back to properly view the man as he wanders up to join him before the cliffside. He smiles; Heinrich has an affable nature and a knack for problem-solving that both first caught his eye when he was looking for a Project Manager for Crossbay Circuit’s construction and now makes him friends with pretty much everyone else working on it. There are worse people to have conversations with.

“Some of the stuff that we had here, you wouldn’t believe… You know the Terrarail tunnel to the hospitality village? An Imagikinetic borer dug that. Tiny little thing - but it cleared it out within weeks!”

“I do remember that; I signed the forms that gave your team use of both it and the Imagination. I also remember signing off for the much larger auxiliary systems that actually draw the rubble away.”

“Oh.” Heinrich grins sheepishly, scratching his head. “So you did.” He laughs. “Still amazing, though.”

The two stand for a moment more, admiring their work, direct and indirect. They turn to go but do it late enough to catch sight of a bright blur of light blue light down below, darting out from the cliffs and making its way through the undulating Turns 5, 6 and 7. Ah, that’ll be -

“Is that Lane?” Heinrich gazes at the Chase Cutter. “He sure showed up quickly.”

“Well, Nexus Racing was once Nexus Force, after all… Efficiency is at the team’s core.” As is innovation… And maybe a little too much patriotism.

“You know, you could say that that man down there -” Heinrich points - “is as responsible for all this as we are. More, maybe. I mean, a racing team’s all well and good but he - well, I’m as proud of them as anyone but Ryker, he’s the symbol, isn’t he? The guy everyone knows the name of.” He spreads his arms. “He brought racing back to the Wardship and thus: circuit.”

Jacob nods thoughtfully. “You have a point, Heinrich.”

A point indeed.

We are the Nexus Wardship of Former Citizens of the Nimbus System, not just a collection of people; please shorten to the pre-title or use the full name!

Emmet: You might see a mess -
Lord Business: Exactly: a bunch of weird, dorky stuff that ruined my perfectly good stuff!
Emmet: Okay. What I see are people, inspired by each other and by you - people taking what you made and making something new out of it.

Axel's heart sunk when Luna spilled her wishes on him. He hadn't noticed she felt so much pressure on her shoulders. To him, she'd been doing a spectacular job for the team, and her performance so far was spectacular. It hurt him deep down when she confessed she felt like she was drowning. It took him a moment to process her words and come out with the reply, so long that Luna began to become visibly upset. Without a doubt, Axel agreed to let Maria join the ranks in the team. He not only wanted the best for the team, but the best for the drivers. Hearing that they were feeling bogged down was bad enough, but the knowledge that his own actions had hammered them down was even worse.

Luna seemed content with Axel's decision, and as she scurried away to talk with Karl over the car's performance in the wet, he headed for Sven, who was processing Terho's times in the WGPC 16 car. He sat down right in front of him, crossed his arms, and went straight to the point.

"Sven, we have a problem."

"What?"

"Do you have any clue what Terho's been telling the drivers in his talks?"

"What you tell him to. Flat out, win it or bin it, et cetera."

Shit. It was his fault.

"RIght, okay," Axel began. "Listen, Luna just came to me with the most depressing look on her face. She's beating herself up over the demands we're supposedly laying out to her. She's not doing well mentally, I reckon."

"So?"

"So, we need to make her feel at home. Her and Juracai. Maria Cattaneo is coming in now for the next race as her race engineer. We need to make her feel at home too. As for Juracai, he hasn't told me anything yet, but just in case we need to integrate him in more with the WGPC16 engineers. He's got valuable experience from the V&T WGPC14 car which we need for the 16 car. Tell Terho to meet me in my office when he's done with his tests."

"Sure. Why?"

"He spent a year out in Mattijana. I need to know how he adjusted to that and emulate the efforts MRT put into pampering him."

"Okay then."

"And, one more thing, make sure Juracai and Luna are happy and relieved of pressure. Tell somebody to lay out some sandwiches and coffee in the garage, I don't know. Kalle will do it, probably."

"What does Kalle even do?"

"We have a Kalle?"

"Yes..."

"Oh. I was just name dropping. Whatever, tell him to do it before I check what he's actually supposed to be doing."

"Uh, okay."

And it just had to be wet, didn't it.

Dalia Dahl sat under a marquee erected over the car on the grid, waiting for the race to be greenlighted. It had been pouring down all day, although over the last thirty minutes the rain had subsisded, enough that the track marshals had actually gone out in the safety car to check the rest of the track. But the fact was, it was going to be a fully wet race, and Dalia just hated the wet. Her gut instinct in any race was to attack, attack, attack. Full throttle, screaming around corners, that sort of thing. Of course, doing that in the wet is suicide, but it was her instinct that she had to fight to do well in the wet.

A few minutes later, the call came through from the stewards that the race would start in five minutes. Time ticked on, and eventually the cars were led out on the formation lap, although the spray being kicked up meant there was little to be seen of the cars bar the Cocoabo's Tropicorp car on pole. They came around, safety car peeling in, and the cars lined up on the grid, ready for the 40 laps of careful wet weather racing that lay ahead. The grid lights turned on. First row of red lights, then the second. Third, fourth and then fifth. And then, Green. 22 cars growled into life, and off they went.

Into carnage.

First corner, Dalia had gotten a bad start off the line. Lera Kozel and Dalia's teammate Shinno Soukuba had gotten ahead, but then, several loud bangs and crunches broke through the engine noise, and she quickly found herself rear-ending the suddenly-breaking Obey of Kozel in front of her. All around her, bits of car strewn across the track. She could see two or three cars completely out of it already, along with more sounds of crashing around her. But for now, she just had to get past all the debris. At which point she realised her front wing was scraping along the waterlogged track, barely hanging onto the car after the crash.

Dalia managed to get around the next couple of corners, but then as they were going through turn 8, the car's nose gave in, released the wing, and the car's floor then chewed it up, puncturing three of the four tyres, bending the front left suspension, and generally giving the ride of her life, before spitting her out onto the gravel. Thankfully, the car was still driveable, and she trundled around the rest of the lap at the back of pack, before pitting to repair everything.

"How bad is it?" she asked over the radio. "The wheels look fine, and we can replace the front wing. What we're worried about is the floor, we're gonna have to keep you in for a while," came the reply over the radio, the rain and noise of other pit crews at work drowning out the mechanics themselves. In the end, the team decided that the floor was in good enough shape to last the race, and sent Dalia back out with a new front wing, a new set of wet tyres and about half a lap to make up to the back of the pack under safety car.

Having caught up to the 14 remaining cars on track, eventually, the safety car went in and the real race began. Immediately she dove down the inside at turn 2, forcing Saya Kaseo to yield her place, and then set about working her way back up the ladder. It was slow progress, but she managed to make it up to sixth at the halfway point of the race. And then the race went back downhill. Coming out of Turn 8 again, she pounded the throttle too hard and went wide over the kerb and off track. She tried to correct the slide, but only managed to strain the front left even more as the kerb bounce landed. Immediately, she knew something had gone wrong.

Moments later, the news was confirmed. "I think that's your race over Dalia," came the message from her race engineer. "Looks like suspension failure. Box this lap to check." She took the car home, and into the pits, pulling up at the pit box and just prayed for a miracle. It wasn't coming, and Durand gave the signal to wheel the car into the garage, and into retirement. The suspension had just taken too much damage.

"You know what," she said, "I could have got a podium there, I was faster than most of them on track. How's Soukuba doing?"
"He's in third, but it's anyone's game in the top 5. There's barely 5 seconds covering them," came the reply from Durand. "Bad news is, Cesaro's one of the five, he's in fourth."
"Of course he is. It's his team's home track, no wonder he's doing well."

Cesaro was indeed doing well. He had managed to escape the pile-up at the first corner by swerving into the escape road, and cutting back across the gravel to rejoin the track. Without any damage, he quickly jumped up the leaderboard as the cars around and ahead of him were forced to pit for repairs and tyre changes. However, there were other cars that emerged unscathed, and for most of the race, that was all he could see, both ahead of him and in his mirrors, whatever the rain could let him see in them.

He pushed the car hard through the rain, giving plenty of room to the edge of the track, and staying wary of colliding with anyone else. All of a sudden, he found himself fourth, and the three cars ahead of him - Vandersen, Kelly and Soukuba - were in his sights. Jang Xiaopeng on the other hand was bearing down on him from behind. He elected, as ever, to sit back and watch the show. No starring role just yet. Soukuba overtook Kelly on the exit of 8, and Cesaro took the initiative and powered past the Katara Racing driver as well. Third place, but it looked like he wouldn't go any further - Vandersen and Soukuba were pulling away from him ever so slightly. Kelly was all over the back of him, and so third seemed to be the best place to stay.

Not that it was an easy thing to say - the driver from Tenburg threw almost everything at Cesaro to try and snatch the podium, but to no avail. It was truly some splendid defensive driving from the young karting champion. And he even made a few attempts at passing Soukuba as well, to no avail, with shut doors at every opportunity. Nonetheless, he was very glad to see the chequered flag after an hour of intense concentration. A podium in his first ever formula race, and on an international stage to boot. Not a bad way to announce himself on this stage. And not a bad way to show MSA why might have made a mistake in not signing him.

Ferramendiak Hiriko Zirkuituan, Ferramendiak, Audioslavia

Weekend performance was a bit loose for Rebecca. Friday saw Rebecca place 15th in a session yet again, this time outperforming her teammate. But once again, they were near the rear. And Saturday was an outright disaster for the team- the last two drivers on the grid except for the late entry, Nikolai Niskanen. It had been the second race and one team only just got their second driver. Another was still missing one. When a circuit was overwhelmingly focused on cornering ability Nexus were screwed. And that so happened to be the case for several tracks on the calendar.

The thing that had to be done was to focus and hope for the best.

---

Meanwhile, for Obey Sport GP the tone was better than usual. Still at the back, but with this being a street circuit, it was an environment they could get used to better. If they kept it out of the barrier they'd likely score points.

No major problems had been reported by either Renzo or Lera. So things looked arguably good.

As long as it lasted for more than three corners, it'd be just fine.

"It definitely went better this time.", Timo said when he got out of the car after qualifying.

"Indeed. Sixth... That's great, actually. Quite what we'd expect."

"Yeah. I'm usually not that good at street courses, but this time I felt really comfortable out there. A podium finish might be in for tomorrow."

"Well, let's hope so. I think I haven't forgotten to tell you that we have actually managed to make some minor improvements regarding aerodynamics, right?"

"Yeah, you've told me."

"Do you feel them?"

"A bit. I think te car feels better in the corners. But well, I've never driven this car on a street course before, so I don't really have something to compare."

"That's true..."

"By the way, how did Jack do."

"Not that well..." Andrew pointed at a screen. "There are the lap times. He's eighteenth."

"Eighteenth?"

"Yeah, eighteenth..."

"How did that happen?"

"I don't know. He had some problems with the car. The engine. I don't exactly know what it is yet, I'll have to ask his crew."

"Hmmm..."

"Timo, great job, by the way", Mara, who had just appeared, said. "Sixth, that's great. Finally where we want to be."

"Well, thank you. It feels quite good to actually have the car where it should be."

"Yeah. Well, at least on car... I assume you don't know why Jack did so bad."

"No, I don't. But, please, keep calm. I know you are probably angry, but I don't think shouting at him will be very motivating for him."

"Hmm... I'll try. If he does again what he did last race, everything will be alright anyways..."

Jannik felt really good at the track. He liked street courses. They had always been his favorite tracks.

"You're fourth. P4. Second row on the grid tomorrow. Well done", his race engineer told him after his last timed lap. Jannik returned to the pits and got out of his car.

"How did Armo do?", he asked his race engineer.

"Armo is fifth. Only one hundredth slower than you."

"Oh. Well, that was close then."

Jannik laughed. One hundredth faster than his team mate... Seemed like they were equally good.

"The Cocoabo is first again?"

"Looks like it."

"How is that even possible? I mean seriously, I don't understand it. How can that thing drive? And how can it even drive fast?"

"Well, Tropicorp Engineering seem to have a pretty fast car."

"Well, yeah, but how can that Cocoabo drive? How can it control a god damn WGP2 car? I'm not even shure what kind of... thing this Cocoabo is."

"I think nobody really understands how it can drive... Probably the Cocoabo itself doesn't know how it is doing that..."

Herraduran Grand Prix, City of Ferramendiak Circuit, Ferramendiak, Audioslavia :: It was set to be a banner day in Rockii Coast for Tropicorp Engineering and Vilitan driver Juracai Klianiota. Klianiota and Cocoabo #23 were starting on the front row and were looking to become the first Vilitan Cove drivers to win an internationstatal Grand Prix at the Vilitan Mountain Challenge Course.

By the time the field reached the start finish line at the end of the first lap in the pouring Vilitan rain, however, Klianiota and Fast Cocoabo were nowhere to be found. Fighting for position Juracai Klianiota was knocked into by Academy Racing's Armo Lehto. The collision sent the two drivers sliding across the track, clipping the Tropicorp Engineering car piloted by Cocoabo #23 and collecting Rebecca Darlington, Gorria Bildostegi, Dom Falepeau, Alyn Terfel and the entire Obey Sport GP team. Only Fast Cocoabo and the Obey Sport drivers were able to drive away from the scene of the incident. While the damage to Cocoabo #23's Tropicorp Engineering ride was minor and repairable, time spent in the pits put the Cocoabo into a massive deficit and they could only fight back to 6th place, fighting traffic throughout the day instead of having clean air at the front of the pack.

It was a bittersweet result for the Tropicorp Engineering team who went into the day expecting to challenge for a victory and instead having to settle for a late charge from Cesaro Whittaker who claimed podium placement despite losing out on a last-lap battle with Jenna Vanderson and Shinno Soukuba for the race victory. There was no sweet in the result for Klianiota, however, whose Novikov Racing machine never made it back around for the first lap. Unsurprisingly, Klianiota refused to talk to any reporters after the early exit on their home track and didn't make a single public appearance until arriving in Audioslavia at the City of Ferramendiak Circuit.

While Fast Cocoabo was Fast out of the blocks again, Klianiota had some work to do. The Vilitan driver, who felt they would have an advantage going into the season due to familiarity with certain circuits that have also been part of the World Grand Prix Championship tour, had no advantage at the Herraduran Grand Prix as Klianiota had never been to Ferramendiak before. Starting half a second of the mark, things wouldn't get measurably better for Klianiota in the qualification session with the Vilitan driver posting the 14th fastest time. Despite the poor showing in the opening event, Klianiota was still favored to challenge for the season title. Things weren't improving for Novikov in Audioslavia, however, while Tropicorp Engineering had rebounded in perfect way securing the front row with Cocoabo #23 besting a pair of Eastfield Lodge drivers, Tropicorp Engineering teammate Cesaro Whittaker and former Tropicorp target Dalia Dahl driving for MSA-SinVal.

Fast Cocoabo and Cesaro Whittaker will almost certainly have an understanding to not crash each other out on the opening lap of the race, and perhaps Whittaker will also be able to work out an understanding with countrymate Dalia Dahl to ensure the front three drivers survive the opening lap and are able to race each other on the track to determine who comes out on top in Audioslavia.

"Alright," Jack's crew chief called to him over comms as he sat on the grid, "quali was ass, obviously... sorry we couldn't get the car back out after that engine went but you still put up a decent time on that lap, considering. Just.... I mean, do whatever you did last race. Just do that again."

"Roger." Jack looked down at the wheel, staring aimlessly at it as his mind wandered. One lap was all he was able to get off before the engine blew. Thankfully he wasn't the only one who had problems, so he wasn't starting dead last.

He looked up, scanning the other cars ahead of him. He was annoyed at the fact that there were seventeen other cars ahead. A miracle was the only thing that could get him a podium.

But he'd made his own miracles before.
I offer only slanderous mockeries!
