Many thanks to Qasden for the logo!

Welcome to the 8th Volleyball World Expo!

There once was an international tournament named the Volleyball World Expo that was held 7 times to determine the best of best national teams in international volleyball. It brought joy - and tears - to many, and provided lasting memories for all to carry away from. Unfortunately, the eighth edition of the VWE never came into fruition, and the world of volleyball was largely left without a competition of this level for 2 RL years.

Now, without ado. I introduce you to the World Volleyball Expo VIII and welcome all to the eighth edition of the Volleyball World Expo, the NationStates' premier international indoor volleyball competition! If you're looking for something where you either can learn about sport, indulge into RPing the sport or just have fun with your RPs of choice, this is the perfect competition for you! You just have to sign up and make yourself comfortable!

Of course, the best way to increase your team's chances of success is to post a roster and regular roleplays. If you are unsure what these should look like, look at others' in this thread and read the Guide to Sports Roleplaying. If you are unfamiliar with the sport, reading about How Hockey Works should help you write a realistic RP.

ROYAL KINGDOM OF QUEBEC

Transportation

To arrive in Quebec you'll likely just want to fly in to the city that you will be playing in. The 12 cities going to be hosting the tournament, with all of them possessing a major airport served by most major airlines, including the giant Quebecois duo of Spiritair and Aeroquebec groups. Landing to Quebec, however, is still going to be a huge challenge: International flights are permitted to land and take off, but expect many delays on both departure and arrival due to mother nature behaving madly.

If you insist on arriving via waterways, poor you. Due to the worst winter in 100 year's time this Winter, most ports (obviously not including ports at California City and ones on shores of Terra Henrius) are frozen and won't be used for transportational purposes.

While travelling inside country, there are main methods you can use for this. The railways here isn't as quick as it'd be with other nations (the maximum speed being 225km for the fastest train service), but they are extremely punctual/on-timerelatively punctual compared to other methods (one or two-hour delays are better than what you'd get in other options, with this bad of a weather), popularcramped (best option out of any right now) and frequent (one train per 30 minutes, with more coming due to demand), making it a very cost-effective and attractive option. Even with such situations the services in Quebec National Railways (QNR) are high-quality and well-maintained, so don't worry about your comfort while riding trains.

Quebec does possess a strong auto industry and cars are somewhat prevalent, so you can travel via cars if interested. This, however, is a very risky option for travelers due to icy and snowy road conditions in almost all highways and driving is not recommended. Same thing with buses.

As for aeroplanes, Flying between those cities are not recommended at all, due to weather conditions at all airports but California City and Gotham, making the flights very risky for even the most veteran of pilots.

Lodging

There will be some hotels of high-calibre (at least 4 star ones) available in those cities. However, those 4 cities being medium-sized cities, there will be some issues. The same will not be guaranteed with the visiting fans as there will be mass influx of Quebecois citizens as well, to watch the games. Therefore it is recommended to make reservations 3-4 months ahead of the tournament, in order to guarantee your reservation in the hotels around the city.

If you are still in trouble of finding hotel or motel suites, there will be hotels, motels and other modes of accomodation available at your expense, on towns slightly far away from the venues(50km-100km). For more information please contact Tourism Quebec or for more specific information any tourism agency of the city/cities you'll be off to(OOC: TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec if you have any questions or so).

Weather

Mainland Royal Kingdom of Quebec is located in Temperate and Polar regions, with the cities located in varying degrees of climate zones so all 4 seasons can be experienced each year, but with different extremes For those visiting anywhere but Gotham or California City it's very likely that the snowfall will be extremely frequent. As this tournament is ICly held during January, temperatures will be altered to following:

California City: It'll still be fine for California City. With snowstorm passing right to the north of the very southwestern corner of Manitoba province, all's good and usual. 15'C to 25'C, so get your surfboards and sunscreens ready!
Winnipeg: -15'C to -25'C, with lots of wind and snow. Both cities face against a huge lake, which makes it even harder to move in times.
Kingston: -5'C to -12'CKingston's been known for having way too warm of winter for most Quebecois standard, but it's still pretty cold. Precipitation's pretty good, not as much wind but decent amount of snow.
Montreal / Quebec City / Sherbrooke : -15'C to -20'C. Not windy, but lots of ice and snow (70cm/day). Sherbrooke may be a bit colder due to the city surrounded by mountains, so expect slightly worse conditions there than in Q.C. or Montreal.
Halifax: -3'C to -8'C. Relatively warm. very windy and heavy snowfall though if it ever goes over 0'C, it turns into shitload of rain which isn't better either

This will not affect the train services, though it'll do more than enough job of freezing people up, as all of the games will be held outdoors.[/b]
Also this won't apply to Gotham, which is a temperate location but is located far south of mainland Quebec.

Languages

There are three official languages in this nation: English, French and Korean. All 3 languages are taught in school curriculum and with great depth, causing most of the population to be at least trilingual. Additionally, in this part of the nation there are some other First Nations languages being recognised as regional languages and are used+learned to great depth in schools, so please note this when you're RPing in Quebec. Most Quebecois you'll meet are extremely polyglot and that will show with way they speak.

When it comes to linguistic status on city that you're RPing on/about, you're more than welcome to TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec about it.

Money

The national currency of Quebec is Quebecois Dollar, which is fairly expensive. The current exchange rate is $3 NS for 1 Quebecois pound. With the nation being rich with huge economy, almost everyone will have at least has a good deal of money here. So please don't feel surprised if the products are much more expensive here than back home, excluding alcohol.

Things you'll need in your stay, prices in NS Dollars (NS$) and Quebecois Pounds (£)

-Hotel: NS$ 35-400, £12-135
-Public transport in the cities: NS$2-$5, £0.7-1.7
-Bus transport to different cities: NS$5-50, £1.7-17
-Train transport to different cities: NS$6-80, £2-28
-Ferry between lakes: NS$5-$12, £1.7-4
-Flights between cities: NS$65-150, £22-50
-Average cost of food: NS$12-45, £4-15
-Sports tickets: NS$60-600, £20-200
-Bottle of water: NS$9, £3 (Sale of bottled water extremely limited, with public fountains providing very low interest for the people)
-Alcohol: NS$3-150, £1-50 per keg
-Public phone: NS$1.5 per call, £0.5 per call

Cuisine

Quebecois cuisine has evolved through centuries of social and political change. Originating from dominant Korean and elegant French cuisine that came with settlers, as well as materials and existing food of the First Nations living in the area, Quebecois cuisine has evolved through a complex interaction of the natural environment and different cultural trends and is the best mix of it all.

Quebecois cuisine is largely based upon rice, other diverse kinds of grains, vegetables, and meats(in this area moose and caribou, and to rare cases bears). The meals are noted for the number of side dishes (banchan) that accompany steam-cooked short-grain rice. It varies on the personal preferences but often in every meal they eat at least some form of maple syrup, Kimchi and/or bread. Commonly used ingredients include sesame oil, doenjang (fermented bean paste), soy sauce, salt, garlic, ginger, pepper flakes and gochujang (fermented red chili paste). In this part of the nation, fish are caught off the rivers and lakes to be eaten in whatever the way one prefers as well.

Ingredients and dishes vary by region to region, with many. Many regional dishes have become national, and dishes that were once regional have proliferated in different variations across the country.
Meals are regulated by cultural etiquette, which are very hard to follow for even the average Quebecois due to all the processes they take.

TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec for any questions.

Religion

Quebec is a religiously diverse country, though divided when it comes to dominant regions. In the cities where the Baptism of Fire will be hosted, First Nations' religions are widely practiced, with Quebecois Catholic Church and Buddhism right behind. Due to these differences, all three levels of Government keeps some separation from any religions, though they still hold some influences in those levels and receive lots of funding. It is also not recommended to argue about politics or religion in Quebec, as political and religious apathy is not known....for most part.

Laws

Culturally and socially, Quebec is in bit of a mix. Another handy chart will be in place to explain some of Quebec's laws in place:

Recreational drugs: Legal, though selling them without licence can lead to up to $10,000 in fines and 5 years in jail.
Hard drugs: Illegal, with punishments up to $50,000 in fines and 15 years in jail for possession and consumption of the drugs
Prostitution: Legal, though people's attitudes about it will be very conservative in this part of the nation
Pornography: Legal, aside from child pornography(applies to any pornographic videos or anything else starring people up to 18 years of age). Possession of child pornography will land you straight in jail for 5 years, while production and distribution of it can lead to potential death sentence. So, don't try it as it's a big no-no.
Legal age for tobacco: Varies (16 in Val d'Or and Rouyn-Noranda, 19 in Churchill and Winnipeg, 18 in rest)
Legal age for alcohol: 16
Maximum BAC to drive: 0.03.
Saying the word 'Coconut': Legal

All the foreign citizens caught under the Federal and/or Provincial law will not be extradited, unless of a special order given by the Emperor, His Imperial Majesty the Jacques IX.

California City - The Cannabis Capital of the World

California City is the second-largest host city at only the 895,000 (city) and 1.85 million (metropolitan area, which overlaps that of Southern part of Winnipeg), but it's not without character. Located in the Southwestern corner of Manitoba province, where an hour-long drive from Winnipeg over the mountain range gets you into a very sunny, warm place, it stands as a city and region unique from rest of the country. Blessed by the sun, climate and wonderful soil, California region also stands out as the producer of nation's 45% of marijuana, which should translate to around 13.5% of Multiverse's weed production. Grown in plantations big and small, one can drive through the area and find the plantations anywhere one wishes to find (OOC: Think of cotton plantations in Southern US), showing its grand scale.

When it comes to the city itself, California City is the warmest city in Quebec, with over 35% of the people speaking Spanish or Portuguese as their primary language. The people here, blessed by sun and warmth, play lot more sports involving water and outdoor sports, which includes volleyball. Often some of the nation's best players come from here, and strong tradition of California and Southern Manitoba university volleyball teams make volleyball a strong fixture here. Even right now the weather is 15-20'C above celsius, causing many vacationers to spend their time in Southwestern corner of Quebec. Make sure to enjoy your stay when you're around, because you'll need to get adjusted to rest of Quebec later!

Winnipeg

Winnipeg, provincial capital and largest city of Manitoba province, is the true regional centre and gateway to Western Quebec. The city, having a large First Nations and Guayabalense population, is hotbed for unique culture different than the rest of the country. When it comes to sports, it embraces its sports teams very well. Football is of no exception, with both Winnipeg team games always sold out and the team constantly raking me off the draws. High crime rate and gang violence aside (wars between indigenous peoples and Guayabalenses were known to be infamous), Winnipeg is probably the most progressive city in the nation, with Greens dominating the provincial votes for past 2 decades. Expect the crowd to be largely consisted of the youth and early adults, but also with some countrysiders as well.

Kingston

Kingston is the fifth most populated city in Quebec, and the 2nd largest city west of Montreal. Despite its northern location on the Calania, it is one of the warmest cities in the nation due to its Southernly location and experiences four distinct seasons. It is considered to be a culturally diverse city because half of its residents are immigrants, one positive and negative aspect of the city. And among the over 150 distinct ethnic origins who are represented there, over 180 languages and dialects are spoken, making it the true ethnic basket of the nation. Over the course of its history Kingston's served as the economic centre of Southwestern Quebec (Ontario-Frontenac provinces), and has rapidly developed over last 50 years, making one of the most attractive cities to live in. The city, however, is notable for 2 major problems plaguing its status as a true Quebecois metropolis compared to its competitors: lack of cultural infrastructure and lack of integration between many ethnic groups.

When it comes to volleyball, Kingston's always had strong grassroots, club and high school teams, but they never translated to collegiate nor pro-level success, which the KD Bank Stars is largely responsible for. But in spite of that the team is highly popular, and often the fans watch volleyball with great dedication right behind hockey. The fans there are expected to be professional and not overly passionate about the sport, but will explode on social and non-social media when asked to.

Montreal - The Heart of Quebec

While Quebec City may be the most historic, Montreal is the largest and probably the most dynamic city of Quebec. With the population of 12 million in the Greater Montreal Area, the city is the centre of Quebec's economy, culture, commerce, finance, industry, transportation and sports. Drawing international influences and population, the city boasts the likes of world-class medical institutions, business quarters, aeronautics and pharmaceutical industries, and a cluster of additional industries based on intellectual property and creativity, making a truly dynamic Quebecois city.

The Samseongoloondongjang, located in the heart of Koreana district just 15 minutes subway ride from Downtown Montreal, is probably the crown jewel of Quebecois football. Long the home of Montreal Koreana, whose days led by legends Alexander Newman and Ji Choon Kim have led to its decades of dominance in 1950s and 1960s, as well as 1991-2013 period, it is now remembered by the many as the House of all Montreal football. With this in mind, it's of no surprise that it got selected as 1st of 3 venues for Quebecois national football team this World Cup Qualifying Rounds not too long ago. It has hosted the 73rd World Cup final, 64th Cup of Harmony Final, as well as third-placer match for the AOCAF 47 and the aforementioned LigAnaian side. It may be the oldest of all Quebecois stadiums still standing, having built in 1909, but it has constantly renovated and cared for to make it one of the most advanced and historic at the same time. With this in mind, expect the fan experience to be at a level perhaps cannot be reached by others in Quebec.

Sherbrooke - The Valley City of Poongpae

Surrounded by picturetesque Almagnac and Charmant Mountain Ranges, the city of Sherbrooke (population: 450,000) is the provincial capital of Estrie. Surrounded by mountains, rivers and lakes. When it comes to primary industries, education and tourism are the key industries in the cities, hence the province's title 'Cottage Country of Quebec'. There are several ski hills nearby and various tourist attractions in regional flavour, from wineries all over the province to the 145 kilometre-long Henri VIII Trail. The abundance of educational institutions in the city, as well as abundance of institutions focusing on traditional Korean-Quebecois culture, results in the city having a very large student population in the area, making the city even more unique.

Quebec City - Capitol

The nation's capital, most historic city, home of the Royal House of Jeongs, Royal Parliament and many government institutions. Bastion of traditions, Korean-Franco pride and classical antiquity. Quebec City is called the City of Light, and is one of the most romantic cities in the world. It is the national and global centre of culture, art, fashion and cuisine, as well as intellectuals who have come from all across the world, making it a true metropolis among global citizens. Culturally it is still with a strong Franco-Korean component and heritage; though significant influence does come from overseas, they often are absorbed into the greater Quebecois culture to be a part of it. It is a true place to be, and for anyone with ambitions and dreams of succeeding as intellectual or artisan, Quebec City is where you strive to find yourself in the position.

Chicoutimi - The Lone Star Province

One of the nation's most ancient cities, Chicoutimi's not a force to ignore. Formed around 6 "ancient houses", it is very famous for being a centre of culture and folk traditions. A collection of nine encompassing villages, the surrounding area maintains many ancient traditions, making it the biggest living scene of ancient Quebec in which agriculture, tradition and athletics are observed in religious degrees. People are expected to be particularly careful with their customs, and reasonable grip in Korean and French will do them way more favour than in other parts of the nations.

Sept-Iles - The Northeast

Sept-Iles is the largest and capital city of Nord-Est province, with the population of 325,000. It is nestled at the south side of Quebec's largest plain (The Great Northern Plains) and The Taebaek Mountains, which stretch along the southern edge of Northeastern Quebec that encompasses Nord-Est and Labrador provinces. Geologically isolated from most parts of the country, Sept-Iles was able to preserve its own distinct culture and to date it has a tendency of being politically and culturally more conservative.

Its pockets of attractiveness lie towards the sea, particularly near Gyeongpo Bay, while its cultural hotspots – well-preserved traditional, old-era buildings and the 400-year-old shamanist Dano Festival - are well supported by the modern attractions promoting the unique region of Nord-Est. When it comes to sports, Sept-Iles is another college market that is valued heavily by the grassrotts fan. Due to the same reason as Rouyn-Noranda, adding to even more isolated location this northeastern city has, Sept-Iles roots heavily on its college teams. The locals will celebrate or cry depending on how their games went, and fights, bets and other activities are very common on game days. Expect this to translate into the games, with all age groups in attendance: the elderly coming with their friends and locals hosting tailgates everywhere with their stock of fish and squid.

Bathurst

Famous for its bibimbap and role as the longtime provincial capital of Acadie province, Bathurst is a laid-back city located within and around its fortress by the Nam River. The largest city in the northern part of Acadia region, which also includes Gaspesie province and northeastern part of Estrie province, it is the largest city in the area with 485,000 people and also a very convenient transportation hub from which to explore northern parts of Acadia and most of Gaspesie province. It is roughly 5 hours by train from Montreal and 4 from Quebec City, as well as 2 hours from Halifax.

While remembered in particular for the QHL team Titan, Bathurst is also famous for its excellence in volleyball. Bathurst is known for its talent pool in which many famous players, dating back to the 60s, were raised from the club and school systems, and this shows in its flagship teams. Mount Ester University's always had excellent, contending programs in both men's and women's teams (combined 17 national championships), while V-League women's side Bathurst Irving Drillers is one of the most successful V-League franchises in history with 6 national championships. With such strong system and high attendance figures, Bathurst looks to offer volleyball fans the best possible experience.

Halifax - The East Coast Metropolis

Bursting with mountains and beaches, hot springs and seafood, Acadie province's largest city of 2.5 million people is a thriving port city with many offerings. From casual tent bars and chic designer cafes in Gwangahn Bay to seafood markets in downtown with every species imaginable, Halifax is home to both the traditional and modern Quebec that many tourists seek to find. Rugged mountain ranges criss-crossing the city draw the background, while world-famous events like Dongnae International Film Festival (DIFF) and Acadiana Festival draw the city's fame and desire as a world-class city for all.

The Taeshan Volleyball side was one of the early competitors in the WVE competitions but in the later years stopped competing and focused mainly on the olympics. The men's side only once medalled in Outineau, but has always been a strong competitor. The women's side won gold once, but this team is made solely of the current top 14 men's players.

Starting 7

The libero takes out the middles, and serves for Volta, Beyond that Sandy Cross will usually play back row Adam Baines. the teams week point is young setter Karl Heges who they are starting at a young age even with a more seasoned international on the bench.

Avissian Union Volleyball Team - Volleyball World Expo VIII

Starting Lineup
Right Setter: Sonia MAGALHÃES
Right Hitter: Crístovão Ivo GOMES
Middle Hitter: Lucas FERREIRA
Left Hitter: Cassandra Maria GOUVEIA
Left Setter: Catarina MAGALHÃES
Libero: André ALVES

Substitutes
Setter: Elias Marcelo ROCHA
Setter: Amancio Octávio ALVES
Hitter: Jerônimo SOARES
Hitter: Armando CABRAL
Hitter: Andreia Luiza ACHILLES
Libero: Lourenço CASTRO

Notes
The Avissian Union's men's and women's volleyball teams both did well, but not exceptional, at the Games of the IX Olympiad in the Kytler Peninsulae, where they debuted. In the group stage, the men's team had an almost perfect run, going undefeated and only dropping three sets. They made the quarterfinals, where they met up again with group stage nemesis Rezynistan; while they had proceeded against the team in the group stage, they unfortunately failed to repeat their feat, losing in a disappointing four sets. The women's volleyball team did slightly worse in the group stage, dropping six sets, including two in an extremely close match against Nova Anglicana in the last group stage play - the Avissian team only prevailed 21-19 in the fifth set. They, too, advanced to the quarterfinals, but fell to the hosts Kytler Peninsulae in an extremely close three sets. In the 7th Volleyball World Expo, hosted in Costa de Ouro, the team advanced to the (guess which stage) quarterfinals and went 2 sets up against Neu Engollon before disappointingly losing in 5 sets.

The Avissian team has an attacking-oriented, but flexible, formation. Catarina and Sonia Magalhães round out the setting portion of the team, being extremely tall and agile (especially for women) to set up the spikes by their teammates Crístovão Ivo Gomes and Lucas Ferreira. Ferreira and Gomes also serve roles in digging and returning serves and spikes. Cassandra Maria Gouveia and André Alves, the libero, focus on the defense most of the time, preparing to dig spikes and set the team up for sets, which in turn, set the team up for an attack. Gouveia, Gomes, and Ferreira are likely the team's best servers.

Volleyball is one of the most popular athletic events for women in Nagore. Within Nagore, major volleyball players play in the Indoor Championship Series, playing for one of the country's 60 teams. The Indoor Championship Series is made up of two rounds: Regionals, and the official ICS . All women represented here compete for teams that placed in the Top 6 of their region, and qualified for the official Indoor Championship Series. Nagore as a nation is fairly new to international competition, but hope to make their presence known early on as they compete in the World Volleyball Expo.

With a mediocre reputation following Qasden's volleyball teams after Aeropag, the organization has finally found a way to rebound....nearly 12 months later. The revived Volleyball World Expo has come at the right time for the SlamVans, as its eigth edition will challenge TQ for what could be the greatest practice for KelVek. To better their reputation, can the Qads do it?

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
WOMEN'S NATIONAL VOLLEYBALL TEAM

This will be the second time that Abanhfleft will participate in an international volleyball tournament. While volleyball is very popular in the high school and college levels, there is not as much interest in professional volleyball, and the biggest professional volleyball league in the country is composed of only ten teams that play with semi-professional players in front of stadiums that are only a quarter full. But the Volleyball Federation of Abanhfleft hopes that with the inclusion of the national team to the Volleyball World Expo VII, interest in the sport within the nation will increase.

AVISSIAN UNION RETURNS TO VOLLEYBALL ACTION

The Avissian Union hopes to get past the "Curse of the Quarterfinals" when it comes to volleyball when it will take place in the 8th edition of the Volleyball World Expo, the preeminent volleyball competition of the multiverse behind the Olympics, held in the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, where the Avissian Union has been placed into Group D, held in the cities of Bathurst and Halifax. While the weather will be much different than what the Avissians are expecting, they will be hoping to not let the weather bother them and perform better than expectations in the event, and perhaps show the nation's dominance in a sport other than handball.

At the last Volleyball World Expo, hosted in Costa de Ouro itself, the team went a perfect 3-0 in the group stage, defeating teams from Taeshan, Armeia, and Protectoria before advancing to the Round of 16, culled from a field of 32. There, they crushed the team from Ctulthii in straight sets before meeting up with the team from Neu Engollon in the quarterfinals. They then lost to their Astyrian region-mates in the cursed stage for the Avissians; after the Avissian team went up two sets to love, winning the first 28-26 in extra points, the Neu Engollian team began to dig in, winning the next three sets, by 3, 2, and 4 points respectively; overall, it was a close match, one that could have gone either way, but one that, unfortunately, did not go the Avissians' way. 95X, a volleyball powerhouse, went on to win the title in a close 5th set against Estelar.

The Avissian team that hopes to finally make it past the quarterfinals will consist of the same players who contested the last VWE two years ago in Costa de Ouro, which is a combination of the best men's and women's players of the two Olympic teams. The goal of the team, as usual for a volleyball team, is to set up balls to attack with spikes and to defend against the spikes of the other team - and the Avissian team is particularly suited for those two goals. The two setters, the Magalhães sisters, Sonia and Catarina, are particularly adept at setting up the plays from the left and right side and help to keep things moving; the big hitters, Gomes and Ferreira, have large spikes and tall serves, especially Ferreira, who is probably the MVP of the team, and young too, at only 24 years of age. Ferreira has the right type of physique for the role of point man in the Avissian spiking system, tall, thin, and with a high jump. The starting libero, André Alves, is probably the second best player on the team, behind Lucas Ferreira, and he has an agile frame and a quick dig, able to help keep the ball in play. Although the team went out in the quarterfinals the last VWE, their new coach, Hugo d'Souza, has really been working on improving the team's chemistry. His view when it comes to volleyball is teaching it in terms of space, and looking not only to see what space is available on the opposing team's side, and how to get the ball there, but also looking at what space is available on your own team's side of the net and how to reduce the amount of space available on that side. Hopefully, this strategy will produce better results than last time around, with the team disintegrating in the quarterfinals as Neu Engollon was able to exploit their wide-open spaces and "holes" in the Avissian formation.

Interestingly enough, though, while two years ago's event featured 32 national teams, this year's features only 16 - meaning that the top two teams to get out of each group will go straight to the quarterfinals, with no Round of 16 matches at all due to the small number of teams in this event. The Avissian Union, mistakenly named as "Costa de Ouro" despite including several players from Morroseta, will feature in Group D, with the United States of Devonta, Abanhfleft, and Frenline Delpha; out of these three nations, only Abanhfleft has sent out a team roster on their official website, so it's hard to preview the group, but the lack of interest of the Frenlinian and Devontan organizers can probably indicate how well their team will do at the event. For the Fleftic team, most of it is semi-professional, in contrast to the Avissian Superliga which is entirely professional, so we can be hopeful that the Avissian Union can prevail in their meeting later today. After the group stage, though, it will be hard to predict which nation the Avissian Union will come across in the quarterfinals, due to a lack of information posted by the organizers of this event.

Coach d'Souza has pegged this VWE as the time where the team will finally break its volleyball quarterfinals curse and perhaps take home the gold for the Avissian Union. He is confident that the team will do well, both in the group stage and in the elimination rounds, due to the smaller nature of the event and the fact that the team's quarterfinal vanquisher, Neu Engollon, as well as last year's runner-up, Estelar, will not be in attendance this year. Hopefully the team will fulfill d'Souza's expectations, but we can only ask the best out of this VWE team - and we can only hope that our team does its best and works together to create the best outcome for the Avissian Union.

Notes

Heading a national team that's been going on year 2 of its rebuilding project, the Quebecois National Men's Volleyball team is the one that's no longer the world-beaters they were back in 2018 (Quebecois Commonwealth Games Gold) nor 2020 (Olympic Games bronze medal), but they certainly have bright future ahead of them as this team's filled with remarkable pool of high-class talent and great potential for years ahead.

Leading the charge is Head Coach Laurent Ahn, who's entering his 2nd year with the national team. After a remarkable pro career in which he's won 5 V-League championships (including 4 straight from 2016-17 to 2019-20), 3 Imperial Cup, a Commonwealth Games gold medal and 4 league MVPs, he's transitioned very well into coaching by winning 2 V-League championships with Shawinigan Skywalkers in his 7 years there (2020-27). After his resignation due to health reasons, Ahn has since made his return to volleyball by serving as its anchor on Quebecois Broadcasting Corporation and as the head coach of the Quebecois National Team.

Tactic-wise the national team will emphasise maximum utility and total offensive capability, with particular focus on 4A/4R system. 4A/4R system is a total-volleyball system which focuses on both Outside Hitters, the Opposite and a Centre attacking, while dividing receptions to both Outside Hitters, the Libero and either a Centre or the Opposite. Given the availability of all 3 setters who can distribute the ball as necessary, the players will be using all possible set options. Because of that, expect hefty number of substitutions due to high energy use.

Over the course of the position's history in Quebecois national team, world-class Liberos would last for a long time. It all first began with Tyler-Luc Pelletier (Years in national team: 1997-2004), who then paved the way for likes of Bae Joon-Ho (2001-16), Noel Googoo (2014-27) all the way to our current holder in Adrian Rezende Souza (2018-). Rezende-Souza, the de-facto captain of this team, has remained the same dominant self he once was back in Centralis-Nassau Bay Olympic Games, with his excellent positioning and sets. His serve receptions haven't been as strong, especially with wave of up-and-coming wing spikers in the domestic level, but that is in relativity to his digs. In the meanwhile, splitting the duties will be Guillaume Shin, who is learning well under his wings. An all-arounder with great fundamentals, Shin's looking to improve his shaky mentale, which he needs to fix else another libero might take his spot.

As we could see, there is a wide-open challenge for the starting positions in Outside Hitter positions, as most players from the olympic and commonwealth games teams have since retired from the national team. Leading what's currently the team's weakness is Milan Jang, who has stepped up admirably as a team leader and reliable scoring threat since his olympic debut in 2020. Daniele Centoni and Frank McGuinness are also stout players, with excellent receptions and overall defence. Both, however, have serious flaws with their games: Centoni's overly reliant on his height and high-power spikes, while McGuinness is more stable of two, but is short. Bloody short. So both will alternate with each other. The 18-year old Yi Joon-Cheol is an all-arounder who'll be joining California University this fall after a 68-4 high school career. Looking most likely to be the best outside hitter since the coach Ahn himself (he played mostly as outside hitter on national team, as well as his final 3 seasons in the pros), Yi will get plenty of opportunities to prove himself at a young age.

For many years, Quebecois national team had a distinctive colour for possessing plethora of high-level blockers. With the Quebecois group, however, things haven't been looking close to pleasant. While the nation does boast one of the best middle blockers in the world in Simon Shim-Kweon, who can be relied upon to play in both Centre and Opposite positions, three others haven't been too impressive. Andrei Agontsev, Koreana dynasty and 2 olympic teams' central anchor, is now 35 and hasn't been as agile as he once was. While still leading the league in blocks per set or number of blocks made, his past injury history (mostly minor, but they were numerous) and aging reduced the effectiveness of once-perfect quicks. He will be heavily relied upon to add height, but will often be substituted with Reid Matthews, who's a run-and-gun machine on his own front but has a knee issue. Ha Hyeon-Jong is a solid blocker and an offensive option, but not as explosive on either option, so he'll be used rarely unless an injury occurs, for Coach Ahn prefers to use 3-man rotation for his Centres/Middle Blockers.

With the evolution of modern volleyball continuing onward, sets and tactics have been developing at an astronomic speed. As a result, the role of a setter has never been this important in past. While most pro teams are going through drastic changes in setter position, the national team retains the same duo of setters it had in its silver medal campaign at 2026 Quebecois Commonwealth Games held in Montreal. Alexandre Capucon, the undisputed first-team all-star the past 4 seasons, has stepped up marvellously in place of Arman Knezevic, who retired last year after many injury-ridden years. Known for his fast, deep-angled tosses right at the net, and excellent technique, Capucon is the setter best fit in what Ahn's scheme. Alongside him is Cedric Gennet-Jerent, the rising star of CSKA Quebec as they enter a retooling period. Possessing stable, high-flying tosses, Gennet-Jerent is more predictable, but reliable setter who can be used to maximise height in blockers and taller wing spikers. During the VWE both of them will be used frequently, depending on gametime decision made by coach Ahn. Also added to the list is Bae Yeong-Hoo, a highly-regarded setter coming out of college. Drafted by his father's former team, he is expected to learn from Capucon and Gennet-Jerent for most part.

While all positions are considered very important in volleyball, there is one position that stands out in particular to the public: Opposites. For Kweon Dong-Hyeok, this is an opportunity of lifetime for him. Growing up idolising Ahn, he was drafted in 1st round of 2016 V-League draft by Koreana, where he built a Koreana dynasty with Ahn and teammate 2 years senior, Andrei Agontsev. After Ahn's retirement, he took over as their key offensive ace, and has yet to come down from his height. As for his playing style, Kweon is a domineering opposite with high spike height and explosiveness, which more than makes up for his limited agility. While he never really became the all-around player that Ahn was, he is nonetheless a very reliable offensive weapon for the Grim Reapers. His backup, Daniel Thibault, looks to be a clear frontrunner in a succession race for starting position in eventual time when Kweon is going to age.....which is not going to be far from now given his age (Kweon entered the 2017 draft after high school). Marked by his back row attacks and excellent side blocks, the left-handed joins the national team after destroying all opposition en route to Mount Ester's first QIS championship since 2018.

Also on board are Arturo Mendoza and [/b]Elton Bird-Veilleux[/b], 2 collegiate level players who were selected to the national team with player development in mind. They, for most part, will be kept as reserves and their playing time, unless all goes wrong, will be kept at absolute minimum, if at all.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Scorers: Yes/No
Choose Scoring Events: Yes/No

A conspiracy theory was heating up on the online rumor blogs. The Vannish media, seemed to mostly avoid covering it. It dealt with one of Vangaziland's most secretive or rumored organizations. Oddly enough, it centered around the national volleyball team.

The Vangaziland National Volleyball Team had its roster prepped. The team had worked out throughout the year, even playing exhibition matches. It seemed things were set in stone. At the last minute, a roster swap was proposed. Setter Kennedy Arundel dropped out of the competition just days before the first game. This is highly unorthodox in that the position is highly coveted and expected to be the top achievement of a Vannish volleyballer, outside of the Olympics.

Conspiracy theorists took note partly because of a mysterious social media post, Arundel quickly deleted. "It's not fair", she wrote. "My lawyers will hear about this."

The message was just a part of the rumor. Her immediate replacement is what really drew suspicion. Staci Rockhammer graduated from Blue Coast University about two weeks before suddenly being assigned as the team's new setter. She had a fairly successful career as a setter. Several other players ranked above her and seemed more likely to make it to this team. Arundel had years more experience, even in the semi-pro league.

Here is where the conspiracy comes in. The Rockhammer family is considered to be one of the Three Families of organized crime in Vangaziland. The weird thing is, no Rockhammers have served jail time in Vangaziland. A few have been subject to trials. All were found not guilty. Several of their associates have been convicted, the gavel just always seemed to fall short for the Rockhammers.

The closest call came in 2010 when 'Lefty' Ragnabayne, rumored to be the Captain of the Northton Crew ran to the police, claiming he was being double crossed and extorted and wanted to put away the boss. He was placed in confinement and seemed secure. Six days after he came forward, he was killed while under police custody. Apparently, the safe house was flooded with gas, rendering the guards unconscious. It was done under the cover of night and the outdoor guards were caught unaware and tied up. Lefty was brutally slaughtered.

Of course, conspiracy theorists called it an inside job. Anonymous word has gotten out in the past that the Rockhammers work with the government and sell Cannabis and alcohol in countries where they are prohibited, helping Vannish companies reach new target markets. Some believe the business makes a billion dollars, if not hundreds of millions. Many Cannabis and alcohol companies are partially state owned.

It's all rumored because no government files have ever been released on the Rockhammers.

Staci Rockhammer is a setter and is now the shortest player on the VNVT at 5'6. She's fairly quick but she isn't quite a record sprinter. She's known for having a fiery personality and being a bit of a diva. She has had several fights, notably crossing the net and punching a lady from Overglade in the face, just because she scored a point on her.

Staci faced a two week suspension, but was back after missing one game, playing 6 days later. Her senior year was free of violence, but not of drama. A video leaked of her hosting a wild party and acting extremely reckless. She is not the typical model citizen Vangaziland chooses to participate in international sports.

The day after Rockhammer was sent to the VNVT, only one radio host brought up the topic and criticized her. "Rockhammer isn't fit to play on this level. She's definitely not fit to represent the Empire", he said.

Two days later, the host was robbed while leaving the network and beaten with wooden sticks. He appeared shaken after leaving the hospital and has not returned to the radio station. "I am going to take some time to heal, mentally and physically", he posted. Rumors have it, he has been taken into protective custody.

The Rockhammer family, publically, are some of Vangaziland's most generous philanthropists. They donate millions to groups like the Order of the Purple Cross. They build small homes for transient homeless and run several work programs. They also have a solid hand in business and banking. The Patriarch, 75 year old Jonton 'Johnny' Rockhammer claims rival businessmen paint him in a negative light.

He released a video praising the VNVT for signing his daughter. "She's gunna do big things", he said in his Northton accent. "It's a real, real good thing coach Grungersen did. Real smart."

He also mentioned the beating of the radio host.

"Ou, that was unfortunate, aye?" Johnny adjusted his double breasted suit while he said that. "It's dangerous out there at night. The police need to keep things more safe. He'll be alright. He's gotta big mouth. But he'll be alright."

Staci's mother and Johnny's second wife runs a modeling agency and is 45 years old. She had Staci when she was 23 and Johnny was 53. Staci has her mom's bright red hair and her father's gray eyes. News agencies refer to the Rockhammers as Scandinavian gangsters. They are reputed to deal with the Thorn family, made up of mostly black Vangazi. Unlike may other countries, there is little racial tension in Vangaziland, nor does it play any effect in economic factors. Both families allegedly deal in high stake, white collar crime.

And occasionally they dip their hands in other things... Of course, that's all a rumor. In 2016, Prime Minister Hank Goodsen finally addressed the question of the Rockhammers and Thorns.

"We are not investigating either family at this time. It is our opinion that there is no organized crime in Vangaziland."

There is one more figure in this web of suspicion. Both families supposedly kick up to a man known as 'Effi the King'. One conspiracy theorist tried to tie Prince Fritjof Vang, son of the nation's figurehead Emperor and Head of State to the title. Nothing stuck, the media brandished the theorist as a crazy man and he lost his career and family.

The man is currently missing, as of this February.

"I'm gunna play some volleyball, alright?" Those were the only words Staci had for an intrepid crew of news reporters who gathered outside of her first practice.

Some think the Rockhammers committed a gaffe with all the activity around this volleyball team. Staci has already taken the number 6 from an established teammate and supposedly had a shouting match with the team's captain, the modest Bohan.

The third Vannish crime family has never been revealed. Rumors fly around that they are just called, "The Third."

VWE/WVE VII:Natanians and Nosts starts losing

Well, this was long awaited for our nation, the other time we participated we were eliminated by a legendary nation,a very good campign untill the elimination actually. This VWE we have tougher group with 95X,Vanganziland and Islana Lunigo.
The first challenge our team faced was Vanganziland,a though game that we lost. The first set was the hardest one,Vanganziland had a good advantage at the beginning, but after the 8th point technical timeout,Natanians and Nosts grew and was only one point behind ant the 16th point technical timeout. Then Natanians and Nosts began to emphasise the pipe and mad the 5x1 inversion, the team had the set point 24x22,but then Vanganziland scored two straight points (25x24),Natanians and Nosts scored one more point before serving straight into the net and Vanganziand winning the set after a rally.
Natanians and Nosts started the second set with a little advantage,Vanganziland tried to diminish this advantage, but they didn't,Natanians and Nosts worked well and finished the second set 25x17.Although beginning the third set with a better advantege,Natanians and Nosts stagnated mid-set when Vanganziland made a series of aces and finished that set also 25x17.
The fourth set started evenly with one team scoring and the other scoring in response. When the game was 12x12 Vanganziland improved and won the set 25x18.
The playes who deserve attention from our team are Ion Natan dos Santo who scored 28 points,Márcus Bruno Enderssen scored 17 points and Ion Márius Álvares who made a good number of blocks. At the next match Natanians and Nosts will face 95X,who also lost this matchday, and hope for a victiory and chances of advancing to the next round.

Although the Vangaziland National Volleyball Team sat first in their conference, the extra drama was causing morale issues between the new arrival and the established corps. It started in the locker room and made its way onto the court.

Jade Bohan has been the Captain of the team for three years now. She's known for upholding the usual standards of discipline expected of Vannish athletes. After all, the Vannish government has described the nation's international athletes as diplomats.

Staci Rockhammer is not that type of player.

After giving an interview in a wrinkled hoody, while chewing gum and with a pack of Cannabis Smokes visible in her locker, the rookie was approached by Bohan.

"Hey buddy, lay off it", Rockhammer allegedly told the Captain. "I didn't know those cameras were high def."

She also was supposedly insulted by Bohan calling her sweatshirt "ragged."

The rookie, got up and walked away while Bohan was trying to speak just to walk out onto the practice floor and make a phone call to her sponsor.

Rockhammer said she "had more important things to do", referring to her business.

"The most important thing for any player on this team is their relationship with the team", replied Bohan through the media.

The conflict came to light after the Vangazi lost the singular set partially because of Rockhammer's mistakes. After Bohan gave her some harsh words, Rockhammer began yelling at herself and making a scene. An official came over to give her a warning and some harsh words.

Rockhammer scowled. She came back focused and finished the last few sets in a poised fashion.

The coach avoided questions on the budding rivalry by focusing on the team's effort. "The only real story tonight was how well our attention to reaction drills has paid off since the last Olympics. We're growing the program exponentially by improving core skills."

It was all a PR move. She was trying to make a few lucky plays into praise for the national team. She was being Vangazi.

Meanwhile, Staci made the news for another wild party with her inner circle of gamblers and entertainers. She posted an edited video set to music on her social media pages.

She visited the most popular sports talk show in Vangaziland. Last Minute was hosted by Deter J. Piff and Chip Maydress. Chip started, almost seeming to antagonize her with a long winded way of poking at her.

"What do you say to your critics, like myself, who say you are more distracting than your value on the court?"

"It is what it is", she replied. "I mean, people can see that I live my life. But I think there is more to me than that."

"Chip, you're just barking at shadows again", said Deter in a loud and dismissive tone.

"Thank you", Rockhammer threw in.

"She's just one more player in the team's plan. The media just exaggerates about her past for the ratings. She's there because she's one of our country's best."

"Right", Chip snarked.

Rockhammer looked bored.

Maydress continued by saying he has doubts that the Vannish women can continue their success, unless Staci comes around.

"I wouldn't count on it, chief", she retorted.

Deter predicted the Vannish women could finish in the top 3 in an opposing view. That is way more than most Vangazi journalists expected, many of whom figured they would barely advance and face early elimination.

A private social media post went viral after a Vangazi rapper put up a video crying after Staci Rockhammer ignored his calls and blocked him. Several other Vannish rappers leaked the video, posting it on the major music pages.

People started saying he was a fake rapper.

Staci hasn't spoken publically about the D list celebrity, Klique, also called Hervold Swensen. Her statement that he was "not her type" led to the public display of affection gone wrong.

"He soft", said the rapper known as 'Black Viking' on cable news.

Surprise!

Natanians and Nosts had its first victory at this VWE,surprisingly it was against 95X.Natanians and Nosts needs a victory against Islana Lunigo to qualify, otherwise it wil be the worst WVE in our history.
The first set begun with a series of rallies and by the 8th point time-out 95X had a 2-point advantage.Natanians and Nosts tried to diminish, but 95X made 20x15,Natanians and Nosts scored only three block points before 95X won the first set.The second set began with a stronger Natanians and Nosts, attacking more and using the pipe more often,at the second time-out Natanians and Nosts led a one-point advantage.Ion Natan dos Santos scored three aces in a row,but 95X tied the game.Natanians and Nosts then managed to score the seven points that were necessary to win that set.
The third set was more evenly disputated,Natanians and Nosts gained an advantage at the mid-set,when the team blocked extensively but 95X made good spikes preventing Natanians and Nosts from obtaining bigger advantage, the set ended 25x22 with the last point being like this "Gabriel Gonçalo Silva serves, the libero from 95X deffends, the setter sets, one hitter tries to spike, but he's blocked,he makes a pass, the setter sets backwards and the hitter hits the block again, the pass goes wrong and Natanians and Nosts have an easy ball.Numa Márius Priscus passes to Mihai Bruno Enderssen,he is going to set,but he passes the ball directly to the other side, the 95X player attempts to reach the ball, but he can't,it's a point for Natanians and Nosts. The referee is giving the point to 95X,but a line-referee marked ball-in,Natanians and Nosts' coach asks for a challenge. The challenge appears on the screen and shows the ball was in,Natanians and Nosts wins the set 25x22".
The fourth set saw 95X dominating from the beginnig untill the last parts when Natanians and Nosts began scoring more efficiently and won the set 25x23,winning the match. The next game will be really important and crucial to our qualification,Natanians and Nosts need to defeat Islana Lunigo by 3x0 or 3x1 in order to qualify by points only.

OOC: Memoires d'Athletes is the Quebecois version of 'The Player's Tribune', for those who wonder. I will be dividing this into two parts, as I barely had time over past month or so with RL.

Memoires d'Athletes

Final Stage, and Remembering my family

LAURENT GYOSEOK AHN
HEAD COACH / MEN'S VOLLEYBALL / TEAM QUEBEC

It was my dad who got me into volleyball.

No, not the beach type people out west or east coast are familiar of. I was born in Ottawa, where the rivers were suited lot better for skating eight months a year, so that was out of question.

Anyway it was indoor volleyball that I fell first into. My dad, dating back to his days as a graduate student in Farrer - a decade before I was born - had Koreana season tickets and would go almost every game. Heck, he would sometimes pay additional bucks to bring the special woman to their games, the woman whom I was born under in March 9th, 1987.

Of course we all remember Philippe Ahn for a wonderful fencing coach, the one who raised 12 Hall of Famers including myself to Collines de Camillons, where the Quebecois Fencing Hall of Fame is situated at. And really that's where my first passion began.

And my siblings and I would fence every day, out in Mount Ross gym or our basement. I'd get my small blades on, wear my mini-jackets and fence until mum and dad called dinner (the taste varied- we were able to identify by dish in regards to the taste). After we ate, we would often watch video clips dad would bring of his older fencers (my favourite was that of uncle Yeong, who eventually became a legend of his own right in my hometown) whenever we're not out studying, 'til the bedtime came.

We used to pretend we were going into Commonwealth Games, and we'd even come up with our own celebrations after a gold-medal match win in our bedrooms. For most part this did come true, because all 3 of us ended up fencing for Team Quebec and won at least a gold. Heck, when it comes to that you know how great Yannick (4 golds in 02 and 06, who can beat that?) and Michelle (5 golds from 06 to 18, including the first one in a win over Lane Ward?) are in our fencing world. I did win one too, but only one. Fortunately it was just one because if it was two and not one, you would have heard my name more often in fencing.

Now going back, many of you guys think that I was talented in both sports and that I played them from very young age. It's kinda true, but not really. The truth is that, until I went to the Koreana game at age 10, I didn't know a single thing about volleyball.

That game wasn't even a playoff match, now that I look at it. But it was at a key rivalry match vs. Chicoutimi Roar, and just happeend to be at the front row, where I was able to see the close-up action of legends like Jeremy Ha, Ios Parsoulidis, and Craig Halveston. I don't recall them very much by details, but what I do recall was what they were all working for: 3 set wins of 25 points. All the sweat, the bounce, the grit and ultimately the seconds of flight we would all get to enjoy.

Later that week, when I grabbed a ball and played around with my father, I knew I had found a sport that's not fencing.

My sister Michelle, who went to the game with me, could tell I was hooked. From the day I grabbed the ball, volleyball was one sport I spent half my time moving around and forth. Michelle and I are, like every sibling should be, best friends, but as I grew older I came to differentiate from her and Yannick by focusing on more than just fencing. Volleyball's my second passion, and I loved it right away.

Of course, nobody was a bigger supporter of my newfound passion than my grandmother. Both her and my granddad, when my mum and I both joined my dad to Perce, were so patient and willing to help me adjust to new high school's team that I would play on after-school hours. They packed me snacks and came to all their games possible, and paid for my fees. And they tried to sit through all my team event, while my mum and dad would be present to watch me fence every other day.

For me, as a boy who's all of sudden entering year 9 in a completely different school, this was a huge support. If fencing is one chapter I brought myself up from a young age, volleyball's the other I developed within over time. Volleyball has taken me from Ottawa, to Silver Hills (author's note: main campus of Universite de Gaspe) then to Queen's, and to the pros. And now today, I am starting perhaps the height of any athlete's career : to coach one's national team he once represented. It's an honour only so few is granted of, and I'm proud to do so on the sport that I arguably spent not 100% of my time growing up as a teenager. I only wish that my grandparents were here to celebrate with me.

It seemed like things were quieting down over the Rockhammer story. Players like Jade Bohan and other established players took over the headlines because of their skill.

A headline went viral, awkwardly, during a live interview of Jade Bohan on VannSport, a major cable sports channel. The cameras were pulled to bring breaking news over a breaking scandal.

It turns out, Rockhammer was arrested for a fight. First of all, she was in Vangaziland. So she flew away from the team for a night. Reporters speculated on why she came back on the long trip. But the real meat and potatoes was the fight.

She ran into a rival college player who graduated when Staci was a freshman.

Words were exchanged, Staci was called a disgrace to Vangaziland while strangers filmed it. Staci replied with her fists. The scuffle was filmed and immediately leaked. The clip was broadcast right up to the fight.

The case was settled on the same day, with the assaulted player posting that she would not press charges. There was most likely a payout.

Bohan was asked later if she knew or cared about being interrupted the next day on the radio. She said "of course not." But her eyes narrowed in such a way that showed she hated the fact that it was even being brought up. It DID annoy her. Internet cameras recorded her hostility and led to more rumors.

She was had her spot in the light cut short because of Rockhammer's drunken vacation.

Things were building to a boiling point.

Staci stated Matchday 3, looking sluggish. Her sloppy play cost the VNVT the first set. She dug in during the second and fought through to the finish.

Before being interrupted, Bohan made a good point in front of the cameras before being interrupted. She was talking about the VNVT's chances to succeed. She stressed the fact that they had given up a fair amount of points compared to some of the other top teams. 95X contributed to this, by drawing two points against the VNVT.

AVISSIAN UNION DOMINATES GROUP STAGE WITH THREE WINS OUT OF THREE

The Avissian Union has won its group in the Volleyball World Expo, held in the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, with three wins, eight points, and the best set differential in the group stage, to move on to the quarterfinals of the 8th edition of the world's premier volleyball competition, where they will face the team from Sha Mobutia to determine who will advance to the semifinals. The Avissian team defeated Abanhfleft, Frenline Delpha, and the United States of Devonta in turn to secure this pole position heading into the quarterfinals of this event.

The first Avissian match came against Abahnfleft, which, on a good day, can be an intensely competitive team, and one that performs quite well. In the first two sets, it was not this Abanhfleft that came out to play, with the Avissian Union making use of gaps in the Fleftic team's space to take the first two sets relatively easily, 25-17, 25-15. However, the other version of Abanhfleft came out in the next two sets, as they rattled them off 25-18 to tie the whole match up at 2 sets apiece, thanks to libero Maximiniana Poletti's efforts to reduce the amount of space available for the Avissian attackers. In the fifth set, though, Abanhfleft reverted to its earlier form, as the Avissian Union sent them packing, conceding only 8 points in total.

Frenline Delpha proved a little easier. The Avissian Union was in the lead for much of the first set, but a good serving run by Frenline Delpha saw them eke it out in the end, 26-24, after a lucky let cord on the deciding point saw the Frenlinians win the set. The next set was close throughout, but near the end of the set, star player Lucas Ferreira's serving run saw the team see the second set out 26-24. The next two sets got easier, as the team had broken down the Frenlinians' resistance, thanks to good spiking from Cristovão Ivo Gomes exploiting open space in Frenline's defense, as the Avissian team won in 4 sets in the end. The last day of group play, against United States of Devonta, was the easiest day of play; the Avissians stormed over the Devontans in the first set, 25-10. The second set was much closer, with the Avissian team making a series of elementary errors, but they won it nonetheless, 30-28, and in the third, they eliminated those errors, winning it comfortably, 25-16 to come in first Group D.

In other groups, Group A saw Royal Kingdom of Quebec winning the group with 3 wins, although two of those three wins, over Nagore and Taeshan, came in five sets, resulting in 7 points for the Grim Reapers, playing here on home soil; Sha Mobutia won second in the group with a 1-2 record. In Group B, Vangaziland stormed to the top of their group with 3 wins out of three, although, like Quebec, two of their three wins, including a tight one against defending champions 95X, came in 5 sets, while Natanians and Nosts came in second, with their only loss coming to Vangaziland. Notably, 95X crashed out of the tournament with 3 losses in an abnormal performance for the volleyball powerhouse. Finally, in Group C, there was a 3-way tie for first, with three teams, Qasden, Cosumar, and Free Republics, having 6 points each, but ultimately, Qasden won the group, thanks to their straight-sets dismissal of Cosumar, while Free Republics was sent packing.

The Avissian Union, arguably the strongest of the four Group Winners, will now face Sha Mobutia, arguably the weakest of the four runners-up, in the quarterfinals, as it seems that the time is ripe to end the team's quarterfinals curse. They should have a fairly easy path to reach the final, too, with the team facing either Qasden or Natanians and Nosts in the semifinals, with the two other teams that look the strongest, Quebec and Vangaziland, on the other side of the bracket, thankfully. Overall, it seems like this should be a great tournament for the Avissian Union's volleyball team, under new coach Hugo d'Souza.
