VENUES AND ATTRACTIONS

FACT FILE
Background
South Otselic's western territories were granted religious sovereignty in the year 2014 to create a theocratic state under the direct rule of Pope Narcissus I. Four weeks later, a uranium miner by the name of Naruto Shinagawa marched on the capital, then called Horīteikokutoshi, and the pope surrendered. The city was renamed Damushuto, and a republic was established without the shedding of blood. The resulting confederation consisted of incorporated states, "Free States", provinces, and one administrative circuit. In 2016, all of these territories incorporated as states, bringing the total count to 16. In 2024, the Sonnelian territory of Damukunian South Dre organised itself into five additional states, bringing the total to 21.

Cricket is a fairly new sport to Elejamie, with the first match on Elejamian soil being played in 1960. However, it wasn't until 1967 that an official national side was formed and 1974 when the first domestic match was played, between Aventry and Surter, with Aventry winning by seven wickets. In 1987, a small limited-overs cricket tournament - the Cross-Tractal Cup - was played, with Wyken winning all of their group games against East Reise, Nuevo Paraíso and Mittedorf before beating Aventry in the semi-final and Autumnia in the final (Autumnia would later go on to win the 1989 edition). Three more editions were played before the tournament was cancelled in 1991 for unknown reasons, with West Reise (who had won the trophy in 1988 and 1990) being allowed to keep it.

However, despite its short run, it still managed to draw a considerable amount of fans and, after plenty of delays, the Elejamian Cricket League - a Twenty20 tournament - was formed in 2005. Beginning on the third Saturday in April, the tournament sees eighteen teams (the only tracts not taking part in the tournament are Valledorado and the Elephant Isles, although there are plans for them to join the league by 2020), split into two groups of nine depending on whether they're on the Eastern or Western half. After playing each other once, the top four in each group then advance to another two groups (again, depending on whether or not they're on the Eastern or Western sides) where they'll play each other twice, home and away. The winners of each group would then face each other in the Grand Final, whereas both runners-up will compete for the Bronze Cup; both matches are played best of five. Aventry (who plays in the Eastern Group) won the inaugural tournament, losing their first two games but going on to win their series against neighbours Burnett (who play in the Western Group) 3-2; Keene District won the Bronze Cup thanks to a 3-1 series win over Rosetta. Currently, Rosetta are the ECL champions, winning their Grand Finals series against Western Group Champions Mittedorf 3-2, whereas Aventry swept Burnett to take home the Bronze Cup. A women's edition of the tournament began in 2012, with Mittedorf winning the Grand Final, where they swept Birch State, whereas Autumnia beat Swannings 3-2 to win the Bronze Cup; the current EWCL champions are Burnett (thanks to a 3-2 series win over Swannings), whereas Surter are current Bronze Cup holders (where they beat Aventry 3-0).

In the last World Twenty20 Championships, Elejamie managed to improve on their performance in the 7th edition, coming 3rd in their group with three wins (against Sacheyenya, West Phoenicia and Schiavonia) and two losses (against San Jose Guayabal and Liventia). Things went even better when they won their Round of 16 game against Yttribia by six wickets. After winning their quarter-final game against Jeckland by 53 runs, they were up against Silvacometopia, who would eventually finish runners-up. Unfortunately, The Greenblacks lost by eight wickets but they beat Eura in the 3PPO by five wickets to take home third place. Will they make it to their first final? Or will they end up proving that the last tournament was a fluke?

Don't kill any of my players. If you do want to injure any of them, then you can only injure one of them per game and they can miss up to two games (meaning you can't do anything career-ending). Other than that, go nuts.

Hopefully this is alright. Any problems with this, please let me know so I can go back and take out, change or put in anything that needs to be done.

The Liventian Cricketing Board of Authority have named the following 19-man squad for the ninth World Twenty20 Championship and the first to be held outside the country since Barunia hosted the fourth tournament.

Bowler Matt Geach has retired from the shortest form of the international game to focus on his Test ambitions, and former captain Max Finney has indicated that this will be his last World Twenty20 too, for similar reasons. Wicketkeeper Garland Goudreau has given up the gloves to focus on his explosive batting, passing the mantle behind the stumps on to Mike Sarrin.

The squad has had an injection of new talent, with some more familiar names making way while others who have been on the periphery are expected to play an increased role in this year's extended tournament. Captain Ollie Kerr's younger brother, Bradley, is handed a maiden call-up, while the long-heralded Brendon du Pont – Liventian-born, Wray-bred – is named as the team's reserve wicketkeeper following the troubles in Wray that has seen the country pull out of international cricket. It is not the first time du Pont has made a Liventian squad, but he is likely to finally make his international debut during this tournament.

Bradley Lewis (Brad) BL Kerr 23 LEFT BOWLER/LEFT ARM FAST-MEDIUM (LFM)

Regular starters in italics, batting in the order listed above. GP Goudreau and OH Kerr to be promoted over JCA Quinn as pinch-hitters with fewer than 5 overs to go.

Style modifier, if in use: +1.34

Bowling attack, in order of use: Sean Finney, Jonathan Adams, Ollie Kerr, Daniel Quinn, James Kennedy, any other bowler playing, any other all-rounder playing, Hennessey or Max Finney as a last resort. Note that SV Finney and Adams are Liventia's death bowlers.

If you RP first and create a scorecard, I ask that you also do one for my side. Please don't kill any of my players, and serious injuries should be discussed with me beforehand. Retired hurts are fine, within reason.

Grand Anglish National Twenty20 Side

"The Hellblazers"

Background
Cricket is an ancient sport in Grand Angland, long predating the Anglish Unification in 2011, being the sport of gentlemen and noblemen for over 150 years. 2017 heralded the first establishment of a National Team following the Anglish Cricket Board being founded in 2015. Prior to this, any Anglish cricket was conducted informally and on an amateur basis. A feature unique to Grand Angland is the culture of having separate teams for T20, ODI and Test Cricket; a feature noticed at national, county and local level. The T20 players listed below all play within domestic T20 leagues and cup tournaments.

This enables the Anglish T20 cricketers to specialise in T20 and T20 alone, without needing to adapt to other forms of cricket at different times. It also means that the risk of the T20 side suffering because players harness ambitions for other forms of cricket is unlikely to occur. The Anglish T20 Professional Leagues sees a two-tier structure, the County Championships First and Second Divisions. On top of this, Anglish T20 cricket holds three domestic cup competitions- the ACB Cup, the League Cup and the Community Shield. Invitiationals and tours with other cricketing nations is also a common occurrence.

This is the Grand Angland T20 National Sides debut in international competition and so prominent Anglish cricket experts have mixed feelings as to how the side will perform, ranging from reigning victorious (the overtly patriotic ABC coverage) right down to losing every singly match by "a cricket score" (Daily DESTROY ANGLAND- Anti-Government). Head Coach Richard Dandelion, in multiple pre-tournament interviews, holds high hopes because of the Anglish specialisation on the three disciplines separately and because of the focused nature of cricket in Grand Angland.

Grand Angland has gone for a traditional fifteen-man squad for this event:

A Misunderstanding

Ion Nínnio Mihailescu saw a thing at the internet. He was very surprised when he saw a "great opportunity".The next day he called a friend:Mihai Ion Ionescu.
-Mihai thou doest not know what I hve seen at the internet?
-What Ion?
-A twenty-twenty world championship?
-What?Really?And...
-There's not Natanians and Nosts in it,so I thought we could enter this.
-Well that would be great, but people compete for who sees best?
-Well,that may nt be as unusual as we thought.Me myself,I have a good vision.
Márcus Ion Torjenescu and Miguel Daniel Álvares arrive.
-Hey folks what's the neews?
-Miguel,Márcus,you won't believe what I have just seen yesterday...
-Wot?
-Tell us man!
-A seeing competition.
-Wow that's great! If it's open for anyone to take part,I'll surely win!
-Yeah,go dreaming Miguel.I'll win it.

*The other day*

-Apparently we need eighteen people, and a coach!
-Ion Nínnio, who would coach people in a "who-can-see-better competition"?
-Maybe we should call our ophtalmologist?
-Good idea,good idea!
-Let me see,the number... -typing tel. number- it's calling.
(-Hello)
-Doctor Ion Mihai?Who's talking here is Ion Nínnio Mihailescu.
(-Ah,do you want to agend...)
-I'm sorry for interrupting thee, doctor, but I saw something at the internet and you would be really useful.
-Thou talked weird dude.
(-Useful,well if I could help a friend it would not be bad.)
-Doctor Ion Mihai, there will be a kind of contest of people who can see best, and since I know some people who see greatly we could take part, but we need a "coach",so I thought that you would be a good choice.
(-Well,as long as it does not begin next week,I do not see a reason why not.)
-Great!Thank you.
(-You're welcome!Bye.)
-Now we just need more thirteen people.Whom art thou talking to?
-Ah,now we just need one more person.I was talking to some friends.
-Do they see well?
-Yes.
-Maybe we should call that weird Englishman down the street.
-I do not oppose nor think someone would.
-Great,we just need to...
-He accepted;the instantaneous technology is amazing, isn't it?
-Well,now we joost need to book our tickets and solve the visa-thing.
-I joost need to go home now,my mum sent me a message.
-Alright,see you later then!

*Later that day*

-Folks,we've got a greaat problem! So it turns out that there's not an international competition to define who sees better.
-No?
-Wait,what.
-So,what are we going to compete after all?
-Apparently there's a type of cricket that's called Twenty20.
-Ah,now everything is clearer.
-Shoot oop you English man.
-Hey at least I know how to play it.
-Could you teach us?
-Yes,of course I can Ion!
-But first there are sometings we will need.
-What.
-Hey,folks.I just received a message and we've got the persission to go!
-Good!
-As I was saying, chaps. We are need some bats, and stumps or bottles full of water.
-Oh,it looks too violent to be cricket.
-Isn't that played with a ball.
-Don't worry,I have one.

Ko-oren will appear in the T20 World Cup in un-Ko-orenite all white. This is a reference to the (more popular) first class form of cricket, which is still the predominant form of cricket in the rural areas where cricket is king of sports. With the opportunities that industrial technologies have given us, it is possible for Ko-oren to send a team abroad to the 1866 World Cup, and the team consists of the best talents that the archipelago has. Cricket is mostly a rural sport, played in the less urban Tarrashall (TAR), Kongaijin (KON) and Aviansola (AVI) provinces, but it's also a staple for people in the warm climate cities of Altiora (ALT) and Gehrenna (GEH).

T20 popularity is growing in the provinces of Altiora and Gehrenna, areas that bring in the money for cricket infrastructure in the country. As cricket is mostly played in rural regions, T20 popularity is small compared to the One Day competition, and even that is second rate to the First Class competition. Six provinces play First Class, eight provinces have a team in One Day, and there are 6 teams in domestic T20, even if that number is expected to grow very soon.

There have been some big changes in Barunian cricket. First of all, Jon Doveson is not on the team. The former captain retired after the test series against Eastfield Lodge last season, and Ben Price will captain the squad. The big-hitter is sure to lead from the front with the bat, as he looks to get the Blues to a good position in a hurry. As wicket-keeper he'll also have an important part to play behind the stumps. He's not the only keeper on the team though; Tim Waterman replaces Doveson as an opening batsman, while his partner is Jane Dyson. Dyson has been named in the XI for Barunia's opening game, and will become the first woman to earn an international T20 cap for Barunia. She was also the first woman to earn an ODI cap for Barunia, an event that almost didn't happen.

It was planned to happen at the 2nd International Cricket Slam, but when that event was cancelled, it threw the Barunian Cricket Federation's plans forWorld Cup preparations into chaos. So they put in an emergency call to the Commonwealth Sports Association, and received interest from the Federation of the Kyrjasmark, who were promptly invited to tour Barunia.

Cricket in Kyrjasmark is an amateur sport, so for them this was an opportunity to develop the sport, and test their skills against some real competition. Against Barunia in the first of four ODIs, they received a rough introduction to international cricket. On a flat deck at the NCCG, Waterman, Dyson, and Price piled on the runs, and were looking set for a massive total. But a few quick wickets in the middle overs saw the Kyrjasmark pull back some ground, and while Ibarra and Monroe steadied the ship, the visitors were able to slow the momentum down, and eventually managed seven wickets from the fifty overs. Barunia were restricted to 229, a defendable but not substantial total.

The Kyrjasmark might have thought they were in with a chance, but their hopes were soon dashed by Nick Jones, who took a wicket on the 2nd ball. The wickets soon fell thick and fast, with the Kyrjasmark losing their first 5 wickets for just 65 runs. The middle order steadied a bit, but it was just a matter of survival, and the Barunian bowlers kept chipping away. Spinner Zane Adams took four wickets, while Cam McClelland took three. Jones took two, Monroe one, and the last wicket was a run-out, with the Kyrjasmark eventually being bowled out for 113 inside 37 overs.

The Kyrjasmark set a far more creditable total at Sheppardton, making 232/9. Captain Thor Osmundsonn scored his country's first half-century, and went on to make 75. However, the loss of regular wickets was a problem, and the score could have been much higher had the tail not been more set on surviving. The last partnership faced a total of 26 balls for a total of 2 runs - one of which was a no-ball.
The Kyrjasmarkian bowling attack also stepped up, almost bowling Barunia out. In fact, they might have done, had Heath Monroe not survived a controversial leg-before shout. While the Barunians charged through at a fast run rate, they lost regular wickets, and the last ball of the 32nd over came down to a simple equation: 1 run to tie, 2 to win, 1 wicket to hand. Zane Adams chipped the ball over mid-wicket, and with all the field up, there was no-one to stop it from racing away for four runs and the win.

The Kyrjasmark then shocked Barunia by, after posting a reasonable 222*, bowling the Blues out for 200. Pacer Lief Mogdissonn led the attack, claiming an astonishing 8-71. Any hopes of a series tie for the Kyrjasmark were dashed when, on a sharply turning pitch at Porthaven, the Barunian spinners - Adams, Cooper, and David Noble - restricted the visitors to 165 from their fifty overs. Price even took the unusual step of bowling a few overs himself, passing off the gloves to Meredith Korry. Korry, the only other woman in the Barunian squad, is also the reserve keeper, and a handy middle-order batter. She managed only 12 runs as the Barunians once again lost wickets frequently, exposing a trend that had management worried. The Blues did chase down the small total easily though, finishing with 168/7 in 31 overs to clinch the series.

Mattijanan Roster

The Mattijana Cricket Federation (MKB) presents its team for the 9th T20 Championships and the second involving a Mattijanan side. Having co-hosted the tournament last year, the side will look to push on in a bid to make the finals.

Colours: Light green with light yellow trim around lower body and arms.

Cricket In Mattijana:

The sport of cricket (or Krickete in Mattijanan) is a well established favourite in Mattijana, with a variety of leagues, climates and idyllic locations making it a fans favourite. The vast size and therefore massive range of climates in Mattijana mean all kinds of players can be successfully developed, with the warm and dry south and south-east a spinner's paradise, and the wetter centre North and West a rewarding location for swing and seam bowling.

The Mattijanan league system has three sections, for 5 day, one day and Twenty 20 Cricket, in which the 5-day tournament contains teams named after their region, whilst one day teams are purely city based, but generally use the same stadiums and training facilities as their regional counterparts.

Head Coach: Dominik Maestri
A former batsman for Petrovijanka KB, Dominik Maestri retired at the age of 38 and moved straight into coaching, becoming the batting specialist for the under 21 side at the same club. Following success for the team in the domestic Under 21 T20 championships, Maestri was promoted to batting coach of the first team and then head coach 4 years later. He spent 5 years as head coach of Petrovijanka KB, winning 2 T20 domestic titles as well as a 5 day title.
After finishing his 5th season, he was offered the International job and began his preparation for the T20 championships.

Players:

Mattijana has put out a mixture of experience and youth for the competition. Opening batsmen, Julian Illicič and Ivalyo Radoslavjevič are old hands in the domestic league whilst the middle order contains some up-and coming powerhouses who are no strangers to hitting the ball high into the stands, or in the case of popular seaside ground Stadijo Ižola, onto the beach.
All rounder, Fredi Gluckspiel is one to watch in the side. When on form, he is virtually unstoppable with both bat and ball, but due to his mercurial nature, he has earned himself the nickname "Glucksmann" (man of luck). In any case, you never know what you're going to get.
The bowling attack is geared mainly towards the lush and temperate climate in most of the country which rewards good swing and seam bowling. Although not in abundance throughout the country, there are sufficient spinners to bolster the attack in drier areas such as Puljanka, and in the pitch in Matbirjke, which is less grown up due to its position in the mountains.

Captain: Mattias Karamov (seam bowler).

Tobiasia has jumped into world t20 cricket with a close loss to 3rd ranked Liventia after a strong showing from the bowlers of Tobiasia. In Damunki, the players entered their first international t20 match. First to bat were Tobiasia. A tense first over saw very little movement, but the second handed Tobiasia 16 runs, mainly from James Harra. Harra and Yulpo managed to continue this streak of 4s and the occasional 6 until Yulpo was caught out by the Liventian wicket keeper. Ash Sandi came up next, and took several runs until Harra was caught out. Next came Uzeke, who with a dramatic twist, was called out for lbw. The side was now crushed momentarily, but Sandi and Delean began to play with even more ferocity. Sandi was caught out, and Guyamme was next. Guyamme and Delean continued, until Guyamme hit a huge 6. The crowd was ectastic, until Guyamme was bowled out. Next was Irvin. On his second ball the Liventian bowler bowled a high bouncer, which smacked Irvin in the face. Dazed, he continued until he was stumped. A late surge from Jake Harrison claimed 19 runs, but they ended on a score of 139.

As the Liventian's came to bat, they were faced with a tough challenge from key bowlers Harrison and Nihart, claiming 5 wickets between them. As the match progressed, the bowlers began to go for Yorkers, which landed just in front of the Liventian players, and claimed several lbw's. However, their bowling was not enough, and a spree of 4s left the score at 154-139 to Liventia, a win for the firm favourites, but an encouraging performance from Tobiasia.

*the young men arrived with the necessary equipment*

-Well,the first thing you need to know is that cricket is ann interesting sport.
-How interesting exactly?
-Very intersting.Too play you'll need to decide who will bowl and who will bat first. The team who bowls has eleven players in field. While the team that's batting only fields two.
-What?
-That doesn't even fair,it looks like baseball, but baseball is fairer.
-Baseball also looks more interesting.
-Well chaps, the goal of the batting team is to bat as fars as possible and while the other team is catching the balls, they make runs.

*Some cricket-learning,explaining and paying after...*

-Wow,that joost looks like a game we play here.
-I agree Ion,but it has more people and is far more complicated.
-It's what I thought Ion!
-But it is also more time-consuming.
-I agree Mihai, also it does leave you sleepy.
-Hey,do not offend the game.
-Llewelyn Addington, shut up!We should earn money making people play cricket...
-Or at least watch it.
-...with its sleep-inducting powers.
-I can't say that's not true.
-Calm down folks, you will not fall asleep during the competition.Believe me!
-Okay English-man I "believe" you.
-Always funny,Cáius Leonardo.
-Also where do English-men come from?
-I don't know, you have given me this nickname,I thought it was because of somewhere you knew.
-Yeah,that leaves uss thinking.
-I think they do not come from a place called England.
-Good English-man,England.
-You,very funny one lah!
-I will look after it at the internet later.

For those of you wondering,Natanians and Nosts speak in its own accents, that are close to British English.Llewelyn Addington Ramsbottom was given this nickname because of his "RP-esque" way of speak.

Spaam Lose Opening Thriller

The Spaamanian national cricket team has lost a thrilling first game in the GCF World Twenty20, going down by four runs against 4th seed Eastfield Lodge. Going up against a world-class outfit, Spaam managed to restrain Eastfield Lodge in their innings, restricting them to 153 for the loss of 6 wickets. Star of the innings was Gonzee Genwarin, whose spin managed to consistently thwart her opponents, picking up three wickets for only 23 runs in her four overs. In return, Spaam managed to keep close to the target, Torauth Lorajor anchoring the innings with a half-century, and they went into the final over needing 14 runs for victory and with 7 wickets in hand. However, the chase was halted when Lorajor was bowled out on the first ball while going for a sweep, and his replacement Loraphira Sarphyra was caught for a duck on the following ball. Petelareo Wysara managed to get single off the next ball, which brought the captain Sullivren Valven onto strike, with 13 runs still needed for victory on the last three balls.

Valven managed to hit the boundary on the next two balls, leaving Spaam needing 5 runs off the last ball for victory, and a boundary to send the game into a super over. The captain managed to hit the ball with the meat of the bat on the last ball, but she was caught just before the boundary, preventing a famous victory for the cricket minnows. The close loss means that Spaam starts the round-robin at fourth on the ladder, with 10th ranked Elejamie, Mattijana and Eastfield Lodge ahead of them. The Spaamanians face Grand Angland in their next game, which should prove to be a thrilling match between two equally talented unranked teams.

The West Phoenician Lightning Bolts scored their first victory on match day where they took on Ethane. The final scores being;
West Phoenicia 120-6 (12.2 overs) to Ethane 119 (16.4 overs)

It was a beautiful sunny day, a light northerly wind. A perfect day for a game of cricket.

Anh Viet was the player of the day, a seasoned bowler keeping Ethane on their toes and bowling them all out in 16 overs. Anh Viet was named bowler of the year in 2015 and 2016 where he plays under the national league team The Deception Bay Stingrays.
Aaron Shields was the top scorer of the day with 35 runs.

Cricket has been a long standing sport of the nobility in West Phoenicia. Up until 1890 it was only played by royalty and the upper classes at their country estates and country clubs.

And it wasnt until the 1950's that it begun to bloom and spread throughout the nation and to be played by commoners with organised leagues.
