Boring Paradise is a former colony of the Rushmore country called Eastfield Lodge. Many generations ago we were granted freedom and have been since as we are now located in the near-ish middle of Esportiva on islands and a but of mainland to the northeast of the islands. However that is not all of the country and we expanded to a place that is not placed on the map where most of population lives in harmony, free from external terror. Boring Paradise have 4 main region, the main land in Esportiva where Paradisia lies, Kanbia where old cities are based such as Ivasiocastle and New City (even though it isn't new anymore), Grepolnesia, a more educational place then other regions and are home to many libraries in places such as Oldcastle and Brazikia and then the final region of Bojistan Islands, which are a group of islands in the northwestern direction from the rest of the regions, home to cities such as Graxian and Icurus.

For any visitors be very careful, with Boring Paradise having the highest black market, there is no telling what could happen if you get caught in the middle of the night going to a hotel after a game or from eating out. It would also be advised not to go into places that seem very unwelcoming as you might as well ask for a death wish. When it comes to affairs there is no formality as corruption is very high in the country, even though placing 4th in Esportiva, as you might as well just pay to get away instead of arguing.

Stadiums

Paradisia North Park
City: Paradisia (Boring Paradise)
Home Team: National Team
Capacity: 143,000

History:
The Ongoing Stadium, built many years ago is the stadium of dreams in Boring Paradise. Near the sea off the coast of Paradisia. The old stadium has now been played for all of the Domestic Cup Finals and all the friendly matches and World Cup matches. It plays a major role for football in the country. Since the nation grew bigger and more important. In the past there has been floods and many water-logged pitch. It has improved on it and got it secure from any flood. In the night-times this stadium has its times. Everyone who was there when it was getting built for the first time ever. People still remember of that moment in there lives and now are sharing it with the generations to come and go.

Boratio Park
City: Samcastle (Boring Paradise)
Home Team: Samcastle United
Capacity: 123,000

History:
One of the oldest Stadiums to be built in Boring Paradise, home to one of the big four teams, Samcatle United. The stadium itself was built many years ago by a famous Paradisian Man, Vandurg Klin. This man was a really good man and liked his way of thinking even though he did not Build the Paradisian North Park of the country. The old stadium has now been played for all of the home matches for the League and Cup and all the friendly matches and World Cup matches when Paradisian North Park was under construction. It has lots of status in the country. Since the nation grew bigger and more important.

Cradle Park
City: San Crane (Bojistan Islands)
Home Team: San Crane County
Capacity: 97,800

History:
Not much can be said about this, it is the second biggest stadium in the region of Bojistan Islands behind Primal Stadium. However being the 2nd biggest it was once the biggest as itwas the old football ground for Prime Para United until they had their new ground built which was bigger than this one. Being the oldest football stadium in Bojistan Islands does make the stadium symbolic for this region as it was the first proper stadium to be built.

Primal Stadium
City: Prime (Bojistan Islands)
Home Team: Prime Para United
Capacity: 112,000

History:
It was built as the new stadium for Prime Para United as the amount attendance that the team were getting was always hitting the limit and had therefore built a new stadium so more people can attend without have overcrowding problems. The stadium still has space to grow as it surrounded by unused land. Since then it hasn't really been used for international play and this will be the first time where it will host two teams that are not from Boring Pardise so the atmosphere will be very different.

St. Malik's Stadium
City: Oldcastle (Grepolnesia)
Home Team: Oldcastle United
Capacity: 127,800

History:
The stadium was named after the emperor as this city was his birthplace and has been frequenting here ever since. He was the one who has officially opened the stadium when Oldcastle United had first played at this stadium. The place has seen better days and is in need of minor repairs around the area but can still withstand the pressure given from the fans during matches. The stadium has been part of an old nation called Westfield House, which was subjugated and seized by Boring Paradise twice now, so you can still see some remnants of what was the old nation that used to be here.

Old Blue Park
City: Bluepool (Grepolnesia)
Home Team: Bluepool County
Capacity: 92,400

History:
In the center of Bluepool lies this stadium that has been built purposely to be connected with the rest of the city so transport in and out the stadium can never be easier for fans. The location where the stadium is used to be where the council meetings were held for this region, leaving a big plot of land to be used after the building was decommissioned and then took several years for it to become the current ground for Bluepool County and will now be one of the selected stadiums for the Campionato.

Rekrob Stadium
City: Ivasiocastle (Kanbia)
Home Team: Ivasiocastle United
Capacity: 113,000

History:
The biggest stadium in Kanbia does stand out with the rest of the city as you would be able to see the difference in architecture of the stadium and then any of the surrounded buildings and can be seen from very far away and you can see it in the sky. Designed and created by David Rekrob the stadium does have enough space for a lot more people than the capacity of 113,000 but due to limitations on the construction of the stadium and there was limited to 113,000 when it could been estimated at around 132,000. You can still fill people beyond 113,000 but the problem is that they would be standing which nobody wants or even sit down but then weather does play a role since if it is sunny then the ground would be too hot or when it is raining, you will have no grip on the ground and just slip.

Bylinial Stadium
City: Bylyn (Kanbia)
Home Team: Inter Bylyn
Capacity: 91,290

The smallest stadium to have been picked for the Campionato, Bylinial Stadium does not really have anything special and was picked due to its simplicity in design and has good access to the area as it is situated inside the city center of Bylyn and runs alongside a river to the south. If you have spare time you can climb onto the roof of the stadium and have the view of the city all the way into the horizon including the beach and it not very far from the ocean front.

Group 1 and 2 will play in mainland Boring Paradise
Group 3 and 4 will play in Kanbia
Group 5 and 6 will play in Grepolnesia
Group 7 and 8 will play in Bojistan Islands

Surprisingly to most, Bardsley's tactics are more defensive in her return to the national side - just like the Patriots were before the cultural revolution that Bardsley herself started, first with Kingsgrove and then with Brenecia themselves. The spine is extremely strong - Duguid and Scrivener very solid but kind of slow, covered by world-class holding midfielder Gryphon and the box-to-box energy of Skorupska. Two attack-minded fullbacks alternate turns to charge forward while the other hands back. Keohane and Trevelyan are both extremely direct, fluid wingers, with Balliol the main creative influence. Ursula Rankin runs a lot and presses defences, but she's chiefly here to score goals.

Image
When Brenecia leads in the closing stage - or even from the outset against a stronger side - they switch to become even more defensive, relying on a very conservative central midfield to shield the defence, locking the fullbacks into defensive roles and all-but isolating Rankin up front, save the wingers' runs when they're available

Staff
Manager - Catherine Bardsley - Age 55
Asst. Manager - Fiona Sylver - Age 50

Catherine Bardsley revolutionised the A-League and then the Patriots with her template of attacking, pace-centric football, and now she's back. Admittedly a stint with Sameba's national team went horribly, horribly wrong - she was fired for poor performances and remained a political prisoner as hostilities ramped up between Sameba and Eura, culminating in war. She's back, now, and it feels good to see her back at the helm... but she's not quite the same, is she? Fiona Sylver's been a long-term assistant and is likely to step down to concentrate on management sooner rather than later. She's a well-liked and steadying presence in a turbulent set of circumstances.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Mathis Woodgate (Image Creed United) - Age 29 - 104 caps, 34 clean sheets
12 - GK - Marcia Bannatyne - (Image Marque) - Age 27 - 1 cap, 1 clean sheet
20 - GK - Aidan Hartigan - (Image Rosbank Town) - Age 24 - 1 cap

By this stage, Woodgate is the unquestioned first-choice goalkeeper - one of the team's best performers most days, always there to bail out a sometimes shaky defence. He's a legitimately world-class shot-stopper, and a very capable goalkeeper in all regards. The alternatives are far, far less inspiring. Hartigan's got a bright future but is prone to errors and Bannatyne's decent, but neither's remotely close to Woodgate. A-League goalkeepers tend to be on the experienced side, and it's causing concern.

Defenders
2 - RB - Czeslawa Szukala (Image Phalanx AF) - Age 26 - 62 caps, 2 goals
3 - LB - Ophelia Lovelock (Image Sabrefell Athletic) - Age 27 - 67 caps, 7 goals
5 - CB - Anaximander Scrivener (Image Brigham) - Age 31 - 89 caps, 5 goals
6 - CB/DM - Brandon Duguid (Image North Laithland) - Age 32 - 100 caps, 2 goals
17 - RB - Tara Hassett (Image Northern Union) - Age 25 - 13 caps, 1 goal
18 - R/CB - Peter Uffington (Image Eastal Lunar) - Age 26 - 24 caps, 1 goal
19 - LB - Saoirse Hourihane (Image North Hall) - Age 26 - 22 caps
22 - CB - Rostyn Bradden (Image Lajuno) - Age 30 - 74 caps, 5 goals

Eura-based central defenders Bradden and Scrivener make for an extremely physical wall that's difficult to punch through. Uffington is a proven talent by now - if required he serves as auxiliary rightback. The measured Brandon Duguid is a classy operator, out of favour under Cullen but his aura of calm and general versatility have paved the way for his return to the fold under Bardsley - equally comfortable as a ball-playing defender or a midfield destroyer. The team relies on dynamic attacking fullbacks Szukala and Lovelock for much of its attacking width - emerging talents Hourihane and Hassett are not to be taken likely, either, though they are more defensive in mindset.

Midfielders
4 - HM - Catherine Gryphon (Image Northern Union, c) - Age 29 - 94 caps, 1 goal
7 - RAM - Squire Trevelyan (Image FC Jansberg) - Age 28 - 84 caps, 29 goals
8 - CM - Aleksandra Skorupska (Image Trothwands Evolution) - Age 27 - 65 caps, 18 goals
10 - LAM - Roisin Carroll (Image CSKA Quebec) - Age 28 - 94 caps, 18 goals
11 - AM - Sander Balliol (Image Tanrisal) - Age 26 - 33 caps, 9 goals
13 - LAM - Keohane (Image ) - Age 24 - Uncapped
16 - CM/AM - Elsie Drover (Image Rozelle) - Age 25 - 47 caps, 10 goals
21 - HM - Matt Ruffan (Image Kingsgrove) - Age 25 - 18 caps
23 - RAM - Ronan Bowditch (Image Real Azuris) - Age 31 - 45 caps, 13 goals

Skorupska and Gryphon represent the spine of the team, and it doesn't get much more solid than them. Gryphon is a legitimately world-class player, the best in her position in the world according to a third-party in Bonesea, exceptionally intelligent, a great and clean passer, an inspirational leader and a set piece specialist. Skorupska? She mostly just runs - extremely hard, extremely cleverly and with buckets of technical skill to back it up. Elsie Drover backs Skorupska and Balliol up - a versatile technician of a midfielder with a nice patchwork of skills, international-quality at everything and still young at 24. Ruffan's a straightforward defensive midfielder, muscular and uncomplicated.

Given a free, floating role, it is the job of Alexsandr van Sorenson Balliol (who understandably goes by Sander) to cause trouble in the hole. On either side, Roisin Carroll is something of a drifting playmaker, with Lovelock providing the pure width, while Ronan Bowditch is a bullish stallion of a winger who's played a key part in Real Azuris' remarkable form over the past few years. But the more likely starting wingers this Campionato Esportiva are a couple of enigmas - Squire Trevelyan, who's endured a torrid couple of years for the national team but improved under Bardsley's harsh taskmastery, and the mysterious Alex 'Keohane' Conlan, culturally a Sunrise Islander, a silky and unpredictable winger.

Forwards
9 - ST - Ursula Rankin (Image Tanrisal) - Age 31 - 100 caps, 62 goals
14 - ST - Fionn Lynch (Image SC Rinaldi) - Age 27 - 22 caps, 10 goals
15 - ST/RAM - Karena Foran (Image Hellinic-Rouge) - Age 28 - 36 caps, 14 goals

Ursula Rankin, formerly of FC Endeavour back when that was a name to be feared, is the unquestioned starter up front for the Patriots, though she might be more isolated these days. Losing a little stamina with age, she's still a quick sprinter in bursts, with a low, sturdy centre of gravity, and the determination and scrappiness to run through brick walls in search of goals. A liability in the air, but she excels at every other aspect of her position - her goalscoring record for club and country speaks for itself, and she managed five goals from four games in the Cup of Harmony. Lynch isn't the most physical of strikers, but he's quick and reasonably clinical, and that's all you really need. Karena Foran's a quick and muscular forward who's enjoyed significant success for the national team as an impact substitute, but her utility as a winger will go to waste in this new paradigm.

CEYNE ISLES NATIONAL TEAM
The Pirates

Finally, the Ceyne Isles are doing something relevant. Previously, they were a part of Nephara, and they never really got a ton of attention from their old leaders, and the economy grew worse every year as poverty levels rose. Despite the two islands liking football and watching the World Cup and Campionato Esportiva every year on TV, there was never enough extra resources for them to field their own national team. Now things have changed. Anglatia purchased the Isles and made them an Imperial principality, with the goal of gaining an Esportivan economic presence, and they invested enough money into the economy that there can now be a league with professional teams, in addition to a national team. There's only one hundred and twenty five thousand people on these Isles, but they have some outside help, and they're ready to punch above their weight and get some colossal upsets in football.

TEAM INFORMATION
Nicknames: The Pirates, the Bucs, the Jade Army
Style Modifier: +0.5
Formation: 4-4-2
Tactics: Because of the way that this team is less talented than others and largely has semi professional players or players playing in the new but small Imperial sponsored league, they'll avoid risk whenever possible and look to park the bus on defense and control the possession on attack. They'll attack through their possession when they have the ball, but as soon as they lose it, they'll drop back into defensive positions at the expense of their counter attacking ability, and they'll use their decent physicality to try to make scoring on them a hard task. Expect plenty of cards from this team, and maybe some broken bones for added measure.

Former Nepharan territory, former Anglatian puppet, current Brenecian puppet. It's complicated, but probably not as much as it sounds.

Football is one of the three national sports within Coldfield - along with Boxing and Archery. It is practiced since 1890, however, the first national football championship was held only in 1950 - before the Commonwealth Cup, football teams were quite amateur and they only participated in regional championships - North, Central Mountains, South, and West. Nowadays Coldfieldian clubs take part in a domestic cup, three national leagues, and regional championships. The Coldfieldian National Football Team (CNFT) was established in late 2016 and it took part of the Baptism of Fire 64, being eliminated by Amnarei-asud in the penalties after a dramatic match in the quarter-finals. Coldfield also participated in the WC 77, being eliminated in the qualification stage after a "cringeworthy" campaign.

Record: 8-4-13

First Match: San José Guayabal 3-0 Coldfield, friendly

Does this look familiar? It's supposed to. Now that I'm at least somewhat confident in my writing ability, I'm rebooting and rewriting the first ever thing I wrote on NS Sports, or at least the first major storyline. You'll also find one or two things from other series of mine, so don't be surprised if you recognize stuff. I can guarantee that the quality will be better this time, though. Most of the characters in this series are also up for transfer. Want to collaborate by buying one of them? Hit me up.

The Isle Girls

Episode One: Reboot

It was all over, it seemed. Anna Saint Preux had been with this club, Falston United, in some capacity for the last five years of her life, but now at twenty one, it was over. As a sixteen year old, she had joined them as a top youth prospect and she had quickly risen to become their number one youth keeper and then their number one reserve team keeper, but not that long after she made it to the first team and started battling for a spot in the starting eleven, she found herself out of a job completely. There hadn't been a ton of warning, there hadn't been a chance for her to say a proper goodbye to the players of the reserve team that she had come to know well, and there hadn't even been anything thinking her for her time with the club.

No, this had been a rough exit, in the form of being called to the manager’s office and being told that she was being released with immediate effect. That manager, Dean Bournemouth, had informed her that the club had decided that she was more trouble than she was worth, after her latest run in with the law had resulted in her being arrested and then eventually released and warned to not attempt that she had been doing ever again. Of course, it was her own fault for stealing and trying to get too greedy and take more than she needed, but it wasn't like she wasn't doing it for a good cause. All she wanted was to help two of her former teammates with the reserve team, who were too poor to keep the lights on at their own place.

The club hadn't even given her the rest of the wages she was owed on her contract, because as Dean has said, her contract did have a clause in it saying that if she was released because of her off the pitch conduct, she wouldn't be owed anything. And in this case, there was enough public evidence of her arrest for the club to activate that clause and render their debt to her to be null and void. Now, once again, she found herself returning to her run down apartment at the edge of Falston, except now, she had no idea how she was even going to pay her bills or keep living on her own. As she stepped inside, she couldn't get her mind off of the possibility of moving back in with her parents, and it looked like that might have to be her plan.

The economy in the Ceyne Isles wasn't great, and now she could count herself amongst those who had no job and had a bleak outlook for the future. The two islands had a low population, had been completely irrelevant in trade for ages, and had often been forgotten by their former rulers from Nephara. There was a time when they had been decent economically and when they had a decent amount of local commerce, but that time was long gone. And now, Anglatia had bought the islands and they were being ruled by a combination of the local parliament and an Imperial princess who was running the place as her personal domain, but even though they had made promises of investment, it took time to change an economy. The investments were happening over three and five year plans, and that wouldn't give Anna a job right now.

Since she had always been an outsider for having an Anglatian father, she had been pretty happy when it was officially announced that the islands would be changing hands… But she hadn't expected to be looking to that new rulership for a job, since she had been expecting to be in the first team for Falston United by then, or maybe even to be picked up by a bigger club like an Imperial one or a Nepharim one. Maybe she would be able to move in with her best friends, the Fortune sisters… Sophia and Esther were the ones that she had been stealing to help, and while they themselves were poor, they always found a way to keep surviving. Joining up with them would at least guarantee that Anna never went hungry, since they somehow were always eating despite their status as footballers that were nearly unpaid.

Anna pulled herself out of her thoughts when she stepped inside the apartment, and lamented the bare state of it. The carpet was dirty, the furniture was barely there at all, and the television set was an older one that she didn't even use anymore. If she wanted to watch something, she would stream it on her laptop, though she wasn't sure how she was going to pay the internet bill right now. After stepping in, she shed her coat and revealed a black tank top that showed off the half tattoo sleeves on her lower arms, and then she flopped onto the couch and took out her phone to look through her messages. There were a few, from her former teammates, but she didn't have it in her to reply to them right now.

She reached into her jeans pocket for a couple of pills that were still in their wrapper, and she tore through that wrapper and popped both of them in her mouth. In hindsight, the drug use had probably been part of the reason why the club let her go, but she really needed this right now. At least right now she was able to pop her pills without guilt, because she didn't have to worry about Dean getting angry at her for showing up to training high or because it showed up on the medical report. It was at that time that her other best friend, Heather Sparrow, stepped in from the bedroom, and gave her a look of disdain when she saw her moping on the couch and waiting for the drugs to improve her mood.

“You're better than this, Anna. What's happened to you? It was just a few weeks ago that you were optimistic about making the first team and pushing the top two keepers for their jobs. You were dreaming of a bigger contract and moving out of this dump, and you were also saying that you would definitely make the new national team that's going to be formed now that the Imperials are the ones running these islands. But now you're just lying on your couch feeling sorry for yourself, hoping that some drugs are going to dull the pain. What happened?” Heather asked, moving over to her and kneeling down in front of her face.

“Dean Bournemouth happened… I always knew that he disliked me, whether it's because of my tattoos or my heritage or my unconventional love life, or maybe because of my personality, but whatever the case, he's always wanted me gone. Today, he just finally went through with it after I was stupid enough to give him a proper chance to get rid of me,” sighed Anna, avoiding eye contact with Heather and rolling her eyes slightly at the way her friend was acting like she didn't know. “Come on, don't make me talk about this. You already know the whole story.”

“I just want to hear your side of it,” Heather replied, before reaching out and running a hand through Anna’s hair to calm her. “Maybe I spoke a little harshly, but you really can do better than this. You have a very bright future, and you're only running into a small setback with this. Just because the club didn't like your off the pitch stuff doesn't mean that you don't have talent, and talent is the thing that tells you that you will definitely have another job. Nobody of your skill is going to stay unemployed for long, and you should think of this as a blessing in disguise. You're getting a chance to move to a place where the manager isn't against you, isn't that a good thing?”

“Heather, I'm playing and living in the Ceyne Isles. It's not like there's a ton of football clubs to choose from. I can't just walk across the street from United to another club and ask to sign up for them, we hardly have any professional teams here. It won't help me to play without making money, because I'm not going to be able to get a real job and I still need somewhere to live. I'd prefer not to move back in with my parents and be a burden on them, I'm already enough of a failure without being able to say that I'm burdening my parents into my twenties. Besides, they have their own problems, like this economy, for example.”

“Why not move in with the Fortune twins? They both love to have you around, and Sophia definitely has eyes on you as more than just a friend… I'm not saying that you should cheat on your girl, but that attraction is a major benefit. Do you really think Sophia is going to say no if you ask to move in? Esther likes having you around, too… Because, you know, Sophia is crazy and you're one of the only ones that can keep her calm. I know you don't like it when I call her that, but I have to be honest-”

“They might be homeless by the end of the month, too…” muttered Anna, rolling from her side to her back and staring at the ceiling. “We’re all gonna be homeless, Hev, that's the feeling I get right now. Or we’re all going to have to give up football and act like real adults, which I never thought was going to happen unless hell freezes over first. Whatever happens, I don't think I'm going to like the outcome-”

“Awww, don't be sad. You're really just reacting emotionally to leaving the only club you've ever been a part of. It's going to be fine, you have so much talent, and even if there isn't a club in the Ceynes for you, there's going to be a good home for you somewhere else. Maybe that place is Nephara, maybe it's Anglatia, maybe it's another country we haven't even considered. Who knows? You can't say that there's no other clubs for you when you haven't even begun properly looking for one yet,” said Heather, putting on her most encouraging voice and forcing a smile. “You aren't going to be homeless. I'm not going to let you be, you should know that I’m going to do everything in my power to keep that from happening-”

Anna rolled her eyes at the last statement, turning her head to face Heather as the other girl kneeled next to her and showed her that forced smile. “You can't do anything to help me, though. No offense, but you've been dead for five years. You aren't really here, and you can't help me any more than anything else from my imagination can,” she said, a little edge in her voice. “Stop trying to act as if you're anything but but my personal cheerleader, and stop trying to act like you're actually helping me by standing here and running your mouth about keeping my head up or some shit like that. It's easy for you to say, you're never going to have to worry about not having a place to live or about your career falling through. You're never going to have to worry about any of my problems, the worst that you have to experience is me venting about them and annoying you.”

“That hurts, Anna. Just because I'm different than you doesn't mean I don't have feelings-”

“You aren't real, Hev. The sooner you accept it, the sooner I'll be able to stop repeating it. Let's be honest here, I'm right and you know it. You've never done a single thing to actually help me, all you've done is talk to me and try to pretend that it has any actual effect. The only reason I haven't taken drugs to get rid of you is because I'm afraid they're going to react with the other ones I take, and because you and the Fortune twins are really the only people I have that don't either hate me or want to backstab me at the first chance,” Anna continued, but before she could keep speaking, there was a knock at the door. Both girls went silent, and Anna stood up and pushed Heather out of the way and went to the door.

If this was who she thought it was, then maybe things were looking up for her and today would have at least something good. She looked herself over in the mirror on the wall, cursing the fact that her dark brown hair was still an absolute mess, and then moved to the door and opened it with a smile. It was indeed the one that she thought it was, Jade Heller. Jade was a big time midfielder prospect for Falston United, and at twenty one years of age, her career trajectory was much better than Anna’s was… She was also Anna’s girlfriend of three years, to whom Anna was engaged. While it wasn't that uncommon to find lesbian athletes, Anna and Jade were more open about it than most, not hiding their engagement or their relationship at all.

It did cause some friction with Anna’s family because of her own traditional background and her parents’ Christian faith, which was partially shared by her, but she would live with the cognitive dissonance. Jade was the one she loved, and she wouldn't let anyone's criticism change that. But as Jade showed up at her door, she didn't really look happy to see her, and she looked more like she was about to break some bad news. “What’s wrong, babe?” asked Anna, curiously. “I'm the one that's supposed to be upset today, not you.”

“Yeah… I'm here to talk about that,” replied Jade, stepping inside. “You see, I heard about your release from the club. I have to say, I'm disappointed that this is where your road ends with us, because we all thought that you would become something big here. That's the mood in the locker room, even if we didn't get a real goodbye for you. However, I think we need to talk about this. We’re not going to see each other every day now that you aren't with the club, and… I think that it makes it a good time for me to bring up some things I wanted to talk about. Some news I have to break to you, actually.”

“OK, what's up? Is this about how I might need a place to stay? I know your parents wouldn't want me around, I'm not going to argue with you about that-”

“It's about our whole relationship. I just think it hasn't been going great for the past couple months and I've been rethinking everything. I think that we aren't as compatible as we used to be, and it's… Part of it is because of your problems. All of them. The criminal record, the schizophrenia, the disputes with management. I've tried to stick with you in spite of it, but with these crimes of yours, and these people you hang with, you're going to get me in trouble or get me hurt,” Jade continued, and then she paused with a long deep breath. “I also want to say that I'm uncomfortable with the amount of time that you spend with Sophia Fortune. You're always around her and her sister, more than even me, and… Look, I'm not going to accuse you of anything. But I am going to say that I don't have the same trust for you that I used to.”

“That's what this is about? Sophia and Esther? Sophia is just my friend, we only spend so much time together because we train together all the time and because I don't exactly have any other good friends. You're always busy nowadays, too, with your career going better than mine and you getting chances with the first team while I'm stuck in the reserves… While I was stuck in the reserves, I mean. I really don't know why you'd think that I'm cheating on you-”

“Never said you were, just that I can't trust that you aren't. And my other points still stand. I'm becoming one of the top footballers in the country, and I'm trying to compete for a spot when the national team forms. I don't need to be with someone that's going to drag me down. I don't need to be with a druggie that's also a criminal, that's going to put me in danger by hanging with some bad people. You have to admit that things haven't been the same between us recently, and as much as this is going to hurt us both, it's time for us to move on. You're starting a new chapter of your life by leaving your club, you may as well start a new chapter in this regard too,” Jade said, before looking around the apartment and heading towards the bedroom. “I know you probably don't want to see me after hearing this… I'm just going to get some of my stuff that I left with you, and then I'll go.”

“I hate you,” was the only thing that Anna could make herself say, as she stood in shock and then looked down at the engagement ring that she was still wearing. She moved back to the couch, letting herself flop backwards onto it. She couldn't keep herself standing, as the overwhelming rush of emotions arrived. Heather was watching the whole thing, but she even didn't have any encouraging commentary for this situation. No, she knew how upset Anna was, and chose to say nothing instead of making the situation worse by speaking the wrong thing.

“And that's alright. It will take time for you to understand… But on the bright side, at least you can do whatever you want with Sophia now, and you won't have to worry about me,” sighed Jade, heading into the bedroom to look for her stuff. “Doesn't seem like it now, but you'll be thanking me later for doing this now and not waiting until you get your spirits back up.”

Anna would not be thanking her for this, ever. Right now, she wanted to die, but the truth was that her career was too important to her for that. On this day where everything had gone wrong and everything in her life was broken at one time, her mind drifted to thoughts of suicide. She did know, though, that she was too competitive to ever go through with it. For her, that would be like throwing in the towel and giving up on her career, and that was something that was never going to happen. It was like Heather had said… She would survive. There would be pain, but she still had her talent, and as long as she had that talent, she'd keep surviving. After all, it was her only option, and she could only go up from here.
Former Nepharan territory, former Anglatian puppet, current Brenecian puppet. It's complicated, but probably not as much as it sounds.

LLAMANEAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL ROSTER - CE19

Jurgen Reichart, after another pointless finish at the World Cup, was not given a contract extension. Replacing him will be the former national team manager of Ethane, Curtis Steeling. Steeling, fresh off massive success with the Ethanian national team, has come out with a drastically-changed side and a new strategy, leaving Reichart’s 4-2-4-1 behind. Will it pay off?

Assistant Manager and Head of Soccermetrics: Conan Estelline

Goalkeeping Coach: Michael Kerraway
Defense Coach: Ryan Reagan
Attacking Coach: Alfonse Keaton
Team Trainer: Meghan Correia
Head Advance Scout: Jack Saucedo
Video Coordinator: Christine Da Silva

Steeling’s tactics have changed direction recently. No longer will his teams follow the ultra-defensive style of football used by Curtis Steeling in the last cycle, but will instead be adopting a new style, still slightly tinted by a defensive formation, coined by the media as 'explosive football'. It is a policy which now includes 4 players at the back, rather than 5. A more possessive style of football is played, with a focus still on defence, but the team has more of a policy of keeping the ball than before, passing it around the back. The team will have sudden (explosive) bursts of attacks, where they will advance quickly on the opposition in phases, and get a load of shots at once, overloading the defence of the opposition team, before referring back to their original, more defensive format. Counter-attacks are also used occasionally as a viable form of attack when out of possession and when being rapidly attacked when the chance arises, but the team is a much more possessive, pass around the team, slowly work their way to a goal style of play.

#01 - Lukas BERNHOLM - Kiiarana City (VIL) - 29
Bernholm, while not an acrobatic shot-stopper, is a solid keeper who rarely makes mistakes, is strong aerially (not just because of his imposing height), and is known for being a strong locker-room presence who leaves everything on the field. Strong with distribution and a consistently decent keeper.
#13 - Markus SHEFFIELD - Chenoworth Harriers (NPH) - 28
Known for being able to stop a disproportionate amount of penalties, Sheffield is very athletic. Still extremely aggressive, but rounded out a bit in Chromatika over two seasons with Depri Sanar before being forced out of the nation. He’s landed on his feet, however, and in the Nepharim leagues, where he’s thrived.
#23 - Nicholas LINDBERG - Maximum Rovers (NPH) - 31
Somewhat bland both in playstyle and personality - he’ll stop most things, is very consistent, and is great under pressure, but is a poor communicator on his good days and isn’t particularly athletic. Has flourished with Coastal, where the team’s lack of a defense makes his shot-stopping acumen a necessity. However, he’s looking for a new challenge, and made a move to Nephara.
#34 - Erika BLANTON - Emerald City Harmony - 28
Somewhat mistake-prone but highly athletic and a strong shot-stopper and distributor. Had a solid season playing for Harmony, and was excellent for Stars at well.

#02 - LB - Adrian LINDBERG - Real Azuris (COS) - 33 [C]
Lindberg has matured into the team captain and one of its top players. His athleticism is remarkable, he's high in stamina, and he has a natural gift for positioning. Not only that, but he’s also polished himself well, and rarely makes mistakes. Someone that was named the nation's best college player consecutive years and who has grown into his potential, becoming the first Llamanean to win the Champion’s Cup last season with Real Azuris.
#20 - L/RB - Kris STRAUSBERG - FC London (RKQ) - 33
Kris Strausberg is an exceptionally unique player. For one thing, after a horrific bus crash suffered when he was sixteen, he no longer has a left arm. For another thing, he’s extremely fast, but tends to leverage this into making bold runs up either flank rather than actually keeping up with the opponent's’ attackers. Still, his strong on-ball play and passable marking make him a valuable asset.
#06 - CB - Emily YNOA - Brookport Otters (NPH) - 28
Very quick center-back who's willing to sacrifice her body to stop shots and make tackles. A smart player with strong positioning and a knack for anticipating passes. Also usable as a man-marker.
#05 - CB - Kurt REICHART - Francesca Orient (BRE) - 31
A six-three, hard-nosed center back who tends to rack up cards. After earning a reputation as New Llama's defensive anchor with his play and leadership, he made a move abroad to the A-League. Strong aerially, somewhat but not particularly athletic.
#14 - CB - Ephraim WAGNER - Emerald City Harmony - 31
An athletic defender who would be favored to start if Reichart tried a lineup with three at the back. Smart, ambidextrous, and known for strong positioning. Had become a better playmaker as well in Los-Juantos before moving to two-time defending champions Harmony.
#26 - CB - Michael GUNNING - New Llama Stars - 28
A strong passer from defense and solid with positioning. Not the most polished, but a solid asset.
#16 - RB - Francesca ABEL - Emerald City Harmony - 24
Came out of nowhere to become one of Harmony’s best players at right wingback. More conservative than Van Dijk, but an excellent defender whose passing makes her invaluable to Steeling’s Explosive Football.
#49 - RB/CB - Jonathan VAN DIJK - FC Endeavor (APX) - 22
Van Dijk showed immense potential at the Di Bradini Cup, his speed and agility enabling him to bomb forwards and embarrass opposing players who try to stop him, and he’s solid defensively too. Surprised a lot of fans with his move to FC Endeavor of Apox, and has a chance to start.

#08 - DM - Ethan CANDELARIO - Goodfeather FC (NPH) - 31
A bruising, physical midfielder with decent but uninspiring passing touch isn’t the sort of player you’d expect to find on the Tigers. But previous editions of the team’s midfield seemed unable to provide anything in terms of defense (the Tigers’ best midfield pairing, Kyle Sturgeon and Jake Wiggins, were both playmakers who played defense sparingly, a model that recent teams have tried to emulate), and somebody like Candelario should be able to hold down the fort. Will be given a shot, especially after spending a considerable amount of time as one of Goodfeather’s best players.
#11 - AM - Miroslav VOROBYOV - FC Samotath (COS) - 32
Vorobyov has excelled in Cosumar with Samotath, and his quick, incisive presence, intelligence with the ball, and ability to break defenses with his runs makes him best on the flanks or as a WC74 Felix Rasmussen-esque free-floating CAM. Not very strong, but exceptionally agile, and his thin frame hides a fierce long-distance shot.
#14 - DM - Nemanja VESELY - Somer City and Surrounds (ETM) - 33
The six-six but agile Vesely was a basketball prospect until fourteen, when he picked up a second sport over frustration from not being picked for the highest-caliber youth basketball team in the nation. Quick-tempered and volatile, but athletic and dangerous on set pieces, with strong passing skills. However, he’s definitely someone who can be easily rattled.
#17 - DM - Jason SANTANA - Rosaria (ESH) - 27
Santana has had his share of issues off the field. However, he seems to have recovered from a brief bout with drug addiction and his best days are still ahead of him. A somewhat quick, technically adept midfielder whose calling card is his stamina and strong positioning. Could get a shot at a starting position if Vesely and Adrian disappoint.
#18 - CM - Michael GUTHRIE - Nandaozhou Sharks - 23
A very solid, cultured midfielder with tons of pace and seemingly limitless stamina. Unfortunately, he’s a little injury prone.
#20 - CAM - Trevor FOURNIER - Emerald City Harmony - 24
For much of SuperLleague 1, with the team's starting strikers both out to injury, Fournier managed to take a leap nobody imagined would come so soon and bloom into a complete offensive player. The Harmony star, who is six-three and very quick, developed a powerful shot from distance and increased technique. Relied on muscling past shorter defenders at the club level, but will need to rely more on his decent-enough dribbling to make space this Cup.
#30 - CM/CAM/RW - Elias MÖLLER - Dinamo Visand - 21
While Möller is half-Llamanean, nobody expected the young Dinamo star to play for anyone but the Arondic national team, making his call up a huge surprise. It could be important, too - the teenager has already shown flashes of brilliance both as a winger and an advanced playmaker for Dinamo Visand, and he possesses both strength and speed in buckets. Still a little bit raw, especially with his finishing, but could be a star.

#7 - LW/LM - Eva VELASQUEZ - Eastweald (COS) - 26
Velasquez is fast, agile, and possesses impeccable technique. However, while one would expect Velasquez, who trained in AC Bartolome's academy for three years, to adopt a flashier playstyle, she's instead far more direct and focused - although she can use tricks to get out of a pinch, she'll rarely use them if she doesn't have to. A decent distributor who developed a fantastic free-kick at Myana before making the move to Eastweald.
#9 - ST - Sophia TREVELYAN - Klyde (COS) - 28
Trevelyan made history in 2014 by becoming the first Eastham-born (she has dual citizenship) woman to play in Eastham’s top tier, IslandLeague One, and since then she’s made the starting spot her own. A strong playmaker from everywhere on the pitch, quick and agile enough to set up her own chances, decent enough at finishing to score off said chances, but also versatile enough to play as a False Nine.
#10 - ST - Ansel PENBROOKE - Eastal Lunar (VIL) - 30 [VC]
Considered the heir to Cartwright’s throne, Penbrooke has set milestone after milestone. Patistan offered him forty million dollars and he declined to head over to one of the best youth teams in the world. Penbrooke is very athletic, and maturation in Apox and Vilita has turned his good touch into a great one. Has become everything Tigers fans dreamed of, and will attract a lot of interest if the rumors that he’ll be on the move again next window hold true.
#21 - ST - Axel KORBORG - Whitehaven Triumph (CEN) - 23
Korborg proved a polarizing figure at Capitals despite scoring ten goals in twenty-one matches, and many were glad to see him leave for three million dollars to Ceni's Whitehaven, where he plans to spend the next few years honing his craft. While still a bit unpolished, he looked good in both the SuperLleague and in Ceni. Known for prolific finishing, especially backheels. Very athletic but quite selfish.
#25 - ST/RW - Carsten VINCENT - New Llama Stars - 23
Vincent is a top-notch winger who scored eleven goals in twenty league games in his first full season with Stars - the young prospect has an excellent finishing touch and is known for his athleticism. Expected to compete with Möller for a starting spot.
#28 - FW - Francis MANDELBROT - New Llama Stars - 32
Found by a New Llama scout lighting up the lower tiers of the Quebecois leagues, Francis Mandelbrot is poised to become one of the stars of the SuperLleague. Mandelbrot is fast and very flashy, often using a number of trick moves during matches. As a winger, he specializes in low, hard crosses - as a striker, he’s a clean and tidy finisher. Should surprise, especially considering that he's been the most prolific scorer in the entire SuperLleague.
#39 - RW - Jessica CHAMBERLAIN - Arrowhead Point (NGD) - 29
Called by many a “right-footed Lily Stanton”, the young Chamberlain does have some similarities to the Grasshoppers Turic left-winger, who recently retired from international play. Chamberlain, like Stanton, is extremely fast and relies heavily on kicking it past the opposing defender, but she’s also a little bit more responsible on defense.

APOX CAMPIONATO ESPORTIVA 19 SQUAD

Manager: Gavin Hughes, Aged: 52
Assistant Manager: Luxulya St. Cleer, Aged: 36
Style: -1

Spiel: And so they're back. Under new "ownership" (if you can count a new football association as "ownership") and with a sack full of new players. Gavin Hughes, the most experienced national team manager, is back for a couple of tournaments as main manager, whilst Luxulya St. Cleer gets her feet in managing. This is an odd team, as it contains ageing remnants of the team which was a contender in every CE and regularly qualified to the World Cup, but also has a raft of unknown, new faces. Alpha Gandhi will tear up the Campionato being far too good for a team of this level, and similarly with James Palmisano who would be comfortably above 50 caps by now if the hiatus had never happened. This should be, in theory, a relatively good side. However, there is not a lot of experience in this team - just look at the starting midfield with 9 caps between them. It will be interesting to see how they fare, all in all.

Hyton was a sleepy suburban village close to the outskirts of Dwile. Less than 10 miles. First exit out on the M1 towards Gwinevra. Picturesque houses and quiet sleepy lanes were just about all that could be found around here. The most excitement that might be found would be the village vegetable competition, and Mrs. Norris with her giant pumpkins.

Until the IFA moved in.

Now, on the north-western side of town, a sprawling development complex was underway. A shiny new office block, which would house the IFA itself, was half built, with the rapidly expanding organisation occupying a series of portacabins nearby. The old national development centre had been torn down and developed shortly after the demise of the AFB, so a new one was also being constructed, with newly planted turf and goalposts in place on the practice pitches. One day, once the IFA had the money, the new national stadium would complete the "Football Development Complex", as the bureaucrats and town planners were calling it.

Two former international players and a former manager were strolling around the new playing fields, yet to be filled with young players learning the game. Those players were of course Sammie Puskas, IFA Chairman, and Luxulya St. Cleer, the assistant manager and widely tipped to take over the main role once she'd gained enough experience and learnt enough from Gavin Hughes, the third member of their party.

"... So that's the main plan with drawing in the new talent as I see it. Just gotta persuade the guys in Government House to send us some money. Which is difficult since they want no part in us to be honest." Sammie was explaining the development plans to the other two, who merely nodded and smiled, "How's preparation's for the CE going then?"
"Pretty good all things considered. I wasn't expecting to have to get the team up to shape so quickly." Gavin grinned even as he was saying those words, he was a man who loved the challenge, who'd been there, done that and got the medal to go with the T-Shirt as well.
"Yeah sorry about that, we didn't think we'd have the funds or timescale to get involved in the Campionato - that one's on me."
"The team are progressing well though, a few of them have still got it at the top level." Luxulya had been developing a keen eye for coaching, but then, defensive midfielders usually did, having keen eyes to pick apart the opposition anyway.
"Alpha Gandhi, you mean?" Luxulya laughed, and Gavin smiled.
"Well, Gandhi will rip apart any lower opposition, that's for sure. He's even better than he was before the scandal, and he's at peak physical condition now."
"Nah, there's surprising depth in the squad as well," Luxulya started, "Obviously we've got the other two Gandhi's who're only a small step below their brother. Lucan [Palmisano] is going to be a fearsome striker as well. That's before we even get onto the younger guys, who are hungry as hell for their shot at this."

A pause.

"And how is Pinsent doing?" Gavin and Luxulya glanced quickly at each other, before Gavin answered,
"He's... he's doing fine. This is bringing a fair bit back to him, but he's a professional. Got big shoes to fill, but fill them he will."
"Even if on the wrong side of the pitch." Sammie allowed herself a small smile at Luxulya's end comment.
"Well, draw has been pretty nice to us. Damukuni will be hard to beat, aye, but the rest should be manageable." raised eyebrows, "C'mon guys, Yttribia aren't what they once were and I don't even know who the other two teams are."
"Fair point," Gavin again, "it depends how the team do obviously, how well they gel, but second and out of the group stages should be achievable." Luxulya nodded along, but came out with,
"Is it true all the games are going to be broadcast to YouTube?"
"Yeah. It was a cheaper option than getting the infrastructure in for terrestrial broadcast. Seems like most of the Apoxian entertainment industry is moving online anyway. Get down with the kids and all that."
"Really Sammie?" Gavin sighed.
"What guys? I got snapchat the other day, its all good fun."

National information.
Located within the Esportiva, Port Christopher is an unincorporated state of the Free Colony of Schottia. The nation is home to just over 1,000,000 people, the vast majority living in the City of Port Christopher. The small country is home to a diverse population of various ethnicities and backgrounds. Port Christopher has an extremely high population density especially around the coastal areas.

The colony was established as a trading post in 1879, when the then, Eastern Ossorían Empire, were looking for a way into the Esportivan market. The wealthy polyarchy of merchants swamped to Port Christopher in a bid to take advantage of this situation.

At the time the Ossorí government came under heavy criticism for their treatment of the native population. Many of whom it is believed had their homes destroyed and were either sold into slavery or died from disease and hunger as their fields were dug up for cash crops. General Lewis Home-Christopher, whom the colony is named after, is still a controversial figure in Schottia today for the methods he used in securing the area.

The Port Christopher merchants quickly became some of the richest in what were the beginnings of a Schottic maritime empire, taking over from where the previous administrations had left off. The new colony flourished along with the EOE at this time and was another hub to new enlightenment and developments in science, education, literature and philosophy. The City of Port Christopher became the Empire's second city and one of the richest Tyranan ports.

The Recent Divisions.
The idea of Port Christopher having a nation team has never been unanimously popular. The Islanders are Schottic passport holders, and football in the territory has always struggled to shake its reputation for being somewhat mediocre. Current manager and former New Dundee Star striker, Jim Reid, had made it something of a personal mission for almost ten years to see a WCC accredited Port Christopher side in the Baptism of Fire, but all his campaigning failed to yield a result. The turning point in his quest was the formation of the island's Super-League, which brought investment and foreign talent Christopheran football for the first time. Seen as a way to make money by further enhancing the reputation of the league, the clubs' wealthy owners and backers threw their weight behind a Football Association of Port Christopher.

Unsurprisingly, for an island of just over one million, Port Christopher's national team found the going tough. Some early successes, including a third place BoF finish, and a run to the last-sixteen of the Runner Cup were overshadowed by lacklustre performances, and poor results in the World Cup Qualifiers. It turned out that the territory's side were not improving Port Christopher's reputation at all - in fact it was doing the opposite - thus wounding the pride of the billionaire sociopaths and narcissists, who populated the FA's boardroom.

With even a few of Port Christopher's rising stars beginning to turn their back on the island, exploiting loopholes in their nationality to play for Schottia, the FA had had enough, and decided to pull the plug. It is hard to say if what happened next was a symptom or a cause of this, but either way, fallowing a shock defeat to Nuevo Caracas, there was a massive player revolt, with almost a dozen stars walking out on Jim Reid and his team.

Somehow, against all the odds, Port Christopher recovered though, and with no support from the board, Reid managed to guide his side to the World Cup finals in Ceni and Electrum. Exactly how he pulled this off is unknown, as there were fixtures for which he struggled to find twenty-three professional players. It seemed that the small group of player he did have were giving it their all for Reid, and their 'us against the world' attitude saw them through.

Quite incredibly, despite all of this, the FA were still hell-bent of withdrawing their WCC membership; seeing Reid's and his players' success as a slap in the face. The team managed to side step this move however, having Reid himself elected as FA chairperson in time for the start of the WC77-Qualifers.

After a patchy WC77 campaign, Reid's players managed to pull themselves over the line, leapfrogging Chaita to secure second spot. With a reputation for tough tackling, last ditch defending, and grabbing goals on the counter attack, Port Christopher seem to have found their niche as a team capable of getting results.

The Republic of Port Christopher
As a result of the recent divisions mentioned above, the new "players' cooperative" were still left with several obstacles to overcome, not least of all where they were going to play. Luckily, being a group of millionaire footballers has some advantages, and they formulated a plan. Seizing control of a manmade island, just meters the wrong side of Christopheran waters, the team set about constructing a stadium and training complex, allowing them to play their home fixture out of reach from their detractors back on the mainland. The players refer to this island affectionately as the Republic of Port Christopher.

GK: Donald Gordon, 35 New Saint Johns Image Height: 192cm Weight: 87kg

Former Schottia U21 cap, Scott Torrance is almost certain to keep his place in goals for this tournament, after his debut during WC77. The Sarrburgh keeper has been outstanding since switching allegiances to Port Christopher, and has been a rock at the back over the last two years. One of the first graduates of the island's new academy set-up, Oskar Del Herrera recently signed for Harlighet Ligan strugglers, Olask Islanders. The 21-year-old is tipped as a future number one, and he'll act as back-up here. Finally, there is still room in the squad for New St Johns veteran, Donald Gordon, although he has never won many caps in his long career, he has always been there when called upon.

LB: Sanchia Diaz 20, Hillstreet Image Height: 175cm Weight: 65kg

For a team who have built their reputation around being hard to break down, the back four is an integral part. Saint's rightback, Aderiz, has stuck by this team through think and thin, and now has over forty caps to his name. He and Dundee leftback, Liam Gonclaves, are both powerful players going forward down the flanks; and given that Port Christopher play narrow in the midfield, they provide important width. Lara Dixon, who recently followed former manager Jimmy Mitchel to Schottia, is the experienced head at the back, having been in the squad since its inception. Her central defensive partner is the very reliable Michael Campbell, who recently completed a $3 million switch to Sabrefell Athletic. The 24-year-old recently jumped ship from Schottia, after a plea from Jim Reid, who was desperately trying to bolster his playing squad. New Dundee's Elliot Thompson, and Hillstreet's Sanchia Diaz are the best they can do, however, in terms of reserves, with "Bad Boy" of Christopheran football, Tomas Nazario-Silva, also capable of filling in at centre-back or right-back

CB/DM: Tomas Nazario-Silva, 23 Willox Street Pirates Image Height: 191cm Weight: 81kg

LM: Tim Maitfield, 31 Polaris Image Height: 179cm Weight: 77kg
L/CAM: Rachel Del Arro 24, Samaj FC Image Height: 173cm Weight: 57kg
RM: Samid Khren, 23 Sarrburgh Town Image Height: 180cm Weight: 75kg

CM: Thomas Sanchez 20, New Belfast Blues Image Height: 181cm Weight: 77kg

For Port Christopher, their real strength is in the midfield. Captain, Diego Bandos, brings vast quantities of experience to the side, and his strength and composure are indispensable in the centre of the park. Sitting just behind him are his former Pirates teammates, Maeve Bronte and Tomas Nazario-Silva, who like all Christopheran Islanders, never shy away from a tackle. This central three are key to the way Port Christopher set up, making the side very difficult to break down. The attacking outlets are Tim Maitfield and Rachel Del Arro, who switch about a little down the flanks. Maitfield, who made a name for himself captaining Cenian side, Polaris, was arguably Port Christopher's stand out player at the last World Cup. Cutting in from the left, the 31-year-old has a terrific strike on him. Quick-footed Del Arro is an intelligent and industrious little attacker, who has really flourished since joining Samaj FC in Cosumar. The former Handon United youth is also one of the main sources of goals in this side. On the bench, Aredhel Neil, Stella Watson, and Caro Bensborg are all good options to call upon as cover, with young Tom Sanchez also putting in some good performances in the Schottic second tier. Academy graduate, Ellie Graham, is the only uncapped player in the midfield, who joins up following her switch to Portus Independent.

CF: Tony Uist, 31 Marque Image Height: 179cm Weight: 76kg
CF: Jacques 27, Dundee Image Height: 178cm Weight: 68kg
CF: Aurora Quiñones 24, Kelsy Merchants Image Height: 176cm Weight: 64kg

Marque striker Tony Uist has been the island's main man in attack since the national side was set up, and his ability to tuck away the scrappy goals has been a big factor in their recent success. On the bench, former CP striker, Jacques, has been on very good form for Dundee in Schottia, helping them to consistent top half finishes. Returning to the squad for the first time in three years is Aurora Quiñones, off the back of a fantastic season at the Merchants. Quiñones was dropped from the squad, following comments she made referring to the recent divisions, but seems to have now patched things up.

They weren't meant to be here. But they'd reached it. A hollowed-out, overgrown husk of a city, once-high spires crumbled and gone, hulking beasts slinking around the corners as a howling wind battered and harried the party of twelve.
It had been fifteen when they'd set out. The other three had known the risks, or, at least, had felt the pay was more important, and now the devils were feasting on their corpses. But whatever. The leader had made it. The gear had made it. The goons were just... goons. Warm bodies with guns.
You couldn't be sentimental here, in this business.
Their commander - close to the rear, a vicious carbine slung low at his hip - recognised these streets. But it must have been so long ago... and it was all so, so wrong.
Something deep inside him screamed at his brain that this wasn't right. He wasn't meant to be here - he wasn't here, he was somewhere else, some other wasteland in northwestern Esportiva, someplace...
He shook it off. He had the power, now. And he would make the rest come to the same realisation, banish their doubts. They would Know.
He was Nepharim, his name was Anders Snowe - and he took off his helmet and mopped his brow.
"This is it, lads. This was - is - Sabrefell."

Karma had caught up to Althea Reader.
She couldn't believe how badly she'd managed to fuck herself. Deep down, anyway, she knew - but on the outside, she always blamed the BFA and the fucking snitches. And the fucking referees she'd bribed who'd spilt their guts at the tribunal to save their own backs.
She hadn't quite been jailed, in the end, confessing when the writing was on the wall. But she'd lost more or less everything she'd owned, and squandered most of the rest. She'd managed the incredible and rare triple-threat of going to seed - gaining around 25 pounds, chain-smoking and nursing a cocaine habit on the side.
And now she was here. Somewhere with white walls and white doors and white ceiling and a white floor and no windows. Just the occasional hollow diamond motif.
She wasn't entirely sure how she'd got here. But she felt calm about it regardless.
A couple of goons were escorting her down a hallway. She was aware, in a vague sort of way, that they were armed.
Wait, no. No, something wasn't right. Something wasn't right.
"Hey."
No response from the goons.
"Hey!"
Nothing.
"Who the fuck- get your hands off me!" She tried to break free, but found out the hard way her hands were bound, one wrist cuffed to each of the goons. "Who the fuck are you? Where AM I? Wh-"
Something flashed and zapped, and Althea Reader felt her hair stand on end as the darkness rolled in.

She woke up.
White floor. Okay. White ceiling. A few new - ow, shit... - bruises.
She got, unsteadily, to her feet. The room was dark. Was there a... a spotlight on her?
"What kinda James Bond shit..."
Another spotlight lit up, and the woman it shone upon smiled. It was not a particularly reassuring smile, despite coming from an attractive blonde woman in her late twenties, dressed in a stylish white suit and opaque, fashionable shades. Another woman in the same clothing, roughly the same age, but six inches taller and rippling with muscle sat next to her, silent. They held each others' hands. Both in weird sort of circular bubble chairs. The chairs were white, too, because of course.
Reader had had a white suit once, too. Now she had a shabby, threadbare coat which didn't quite fit anymore.
Her life fucking sucked.
"You're crying," said the woman, gently.
"Shut up," said Reader brusquely, rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand and being disappointed to find it coming away damp. "Who are you?"
"Who am I personally? Or who are we, broadly?"
Reader grunted by way of response.
"My name is Andrea Truelock." She put a dainty hand on her chest. "And my dear wife is Olenna Goodfellow. You will have to forgive her silence, as she is mute - but not deaf, so mind your words. Do the names remind you of anything?"
"No."
"We formed Goodlock, together."
"The... betting syndicate?" Oh, shit. She'd fucked something, hadn't she. "But I've still got my kneecaps."
Truelock chuckled. "Do not worry, we took care not to use... enhanced bookmaking techniques on leagues that mattered. To really twist the odds, you exploit the poor and needy. It's easy to convince some downtrodden Pravennan second-tier amateur to concede the game's first throw-in. And, as you found out to your cost, proper leagues can be so... irritatingly diligent."
"Don't remind me."
"Your appearance is a reminder. You really are a mess, my dear." Truelock leaned back in her seat. "But we tired of that game after a while, sold it on, and sought something... more. And thus we formed the Optima Consortium."
"Right. What exactly does your consortium... do?"
Truelock chuckled. "We win."
Reader waited for an expansion that wasn't coming. Then she frowned.
"Win."
"Yes."
"How do you... win life?"
Truelock smirked. "Life is a game, my dear, and like any game it has rules, and as with any rules they can be exploited." She waved her arm at some unseen courtier, and another light flicked on. There was a small, metal box on a table, a few metres away from Reader.
"Tell me, Althea. Or might I call you Thea? We will get the chance to work together very closely in the future. It is best to be jocular."
Reader's lip curled. "Reader's fine."
"Thea, where is Nephara?"
Reader examined the question. Surely it was a trick question - Andrea Truelock was a very Nepharim name and she spoke with a gently Nepharim accent. "It's... a large island. Southeast Rushmore."
"Good. And where was it a year ago?"
Reader blinked.
"What?"
"Tell me."
"It... it's always been there. I mean it was officially Esportivan, but the actual physical place of the island..."
Truelock chuckled again, richly and warmly. "And what are the inhabitants of the Equestrian States?"
"They're... they're horses."
"In how many dimensions?"
"What's this about? Three, obviously." But Reader's brain twitched a little.
"Why do Islanders age twice as slowly as Brenecians, and Audioslavs twice as quickly?"
"They... don't, it just... seems that... way," Reader said, her conviction wavering. "It's... I dunno, it's probably some elf shit. Magic, or whatever."
"Then if you knew, deep down, that Islanders lived twice as long, why did you not seek to become one immediately?"
"I... I... it isn't..."
Truelock smiled. "Let me tell you a secret. I have aged two years to your thirteen. I formed this Consortium - and gave it nationhood - to achieve something as close to immortality as the world allows. And we need you, Reader. We need you because nobody else with your skillset is nearly as desperate as you are."
"That's all... impossible, and why the fuck do you need me? Your... I mean, I'm no businesswoman."
"Evidently not, as you didn't know what a risk not worth taking was until it slapped you in the face and ruined your life. But you are, technically, a football manager. And we need a team to... help our goals to a swift conclusion."
"Goals? Like... actual goals? Otherwise I don't see how-"
"Oh, you wouldn't. But there's only so much spotlight to go around." Truelock leaned forward, steepling her hands. "Football is more than life and death in this world, Thea. And as long as we keep it in the spotlight, we have a platform to accomplish everything else we need."
Reader stared.
"You're fucking insane."
"I'd imagine I sound it, yes. But here."
Truelock tossed over a key that clinked and clanked across the white marble floor to Reader's feet. She picked it up, glanced at the box...
"Yes, my dear, two and two really does equal four. Open it."
Hesitantly, she did so. It was a plain iron box, totally unadorned, and in it...
"A... a passport? With... my name, my details?" She stared at Truelock, who just kept smiling.
"Welcome to aging in real time, Thea. Our first of many gifts to you."

The Blackbone Bay National Football Team

Style: +5

Manager - Granny O'Male
The Scurvy Pirates of Blackbone Bay have discovered that playing football is a great pastime for their idle periods on shore, and have been intending to put together their team after some (literally) bloody infighting led to poor performances waaaay back at Campionato Esportiva II. They've been reminded that settling things via armed duel is perhaps not the best idea, and come back under the guidance of the venerable Granny O'Male, widely regarded as the most knowledgeable non-player of the game amongst all the pirate crews. Though she's old and wrinkly and spends all her days on dry land, she's still very smart, quick and ruthless, playing an unorthodox 3-1-1-3-2 formation. She has again gathered the best crew captains from across the loose nation and made them play together, looking to improve upon Blackbone Bay's legendary fourth-place finish at the first Campionato. Boring Paradise should prepare for scenes of plunder, despair and gag pistols all across the land, as Blackbone Bay will either go big or go out with a literal bang.

Starting XI:

GK - Devvo the Blocker - Age 21 - Sameba's Revenge
LB - Dimitar Alexandrov - Age 25 - Pearl of Providence
CB - Bartleby Blackheart - Age 26 - Midnight
RB - Nur Zaman (F) - Age 24 - Hakim
DM - Jimmy the Ward - Age 27 - Exchange
LM - Inés del Valle (F) - Age 29 - El Cofre
CM – Jacopo the Mussel - Age 31 - La Testa
RM - Techa Altzaba (F) - Age 30 - Fortress
AM - Billy Boii - Age 30 - Adventure
CF - François l'Arçonais - Age 26 - Le Sable
CF - Bo Xiu (F) - Age 22 - Ruin

There is no captain and no substitutes. Every player is a proud ship captain in their own right, and wouldn't agree to either sit on the bench or choose a captain of captains. Nor even sharing the national team with regular ship rabble, so they'll just carry on with peglegs, crutches or pure iron will if necessary.

Colours
The home kit of Blackbone Bay, as modelled by Deckhand Barry, consists entirely of unbleached calico, with the away kit being the same in black; if pressed, they may put together a third kit in brown. Some players may also be inclined to wear their own hats, eyepatches and firearms to the pitch.

The Navy and Sky Blue that has adorned all of Mount Pleasant's sporting ventures stands out on the home shirt, mimicking the national flag in a sense.

The away kit is a bright red number highlighted with yellow and orange stripes, echoing the national symbol and crest, the Mount Pleasant Flame.

Formation & Tactics

A. ROSENFELD (GK)

V. WOLFF (LB) -- R. MONTANA (CB) -- G. BABINEAUX (CB) -- C. ASTON (RB)

D. STYLES (DM)

C. KATONA (LM) -------------------------------------------- K. WILKIE (RM)

R. van DAAL (AM)

J. de SANTIS (CF) -- M. BAUMGARTNER (CF)

The main formation for Mount Pleasant's National Football Team seems like it adopts a 4-1-2-1-2 Formation at first glance. However, Mariani plays the formation more like a modified 5-3-2, as Dustin Styles plays his Defensive Midfield role so far back, he almost acts like a fifth centre back to slot between Montana and Baineaux. In addition, van Daal only really goes up into his attacking midfield role when the ball is in the opponents half, otherwise expect him to fill the massive gap between Katona and Wilkie. The fullbacks of Wolff and Aston often make darting runs up front, essentially altering this formation into a 3-5-2 on attack. And not forgetting the best strikers in the country, Jackie de Santis and Michael Baumgartner to finish off the swift attacking flair for the National side

Tumbran National Football Team
The Blue Lions

Image

After an extremely disappointing WC77 qualification cycle where their rightful qualification spot was stolen from them by Semarland, who were rightly disqualified for some clerical errors that led to major cheating and then wrongly reinstated due to the corrupt WCC letting them back into the competition in exchange for something, the Blue Lions are back, with new kits, and out for blood.

All-Time Record as of WC LXXVII

Jordan Fletcher: 12-8-17
Colin Guthries: 0-3-3

1: (Not for too long - maximum until end of tournament. No killings or career-ending injuries. A terrorist attack that kills supporters is fine, however - just not any member of the Royal Family)

Staff

Manager: Robin Stoff (59 y/o, TMB)

Robin Stoff is the manager of the Tumbran team - something which has proven to be more of a curse than a blessing. In his fourteen matches in charge, he has failed to win any, at most holding teams to a draw. He hopes that will change at this tournament, with Tumbra being in a relatively easy group. He has repeatedly stated that he is in for the long run - a sentiment that the TFA shares, despite them dismissing him from his job as the U-21 manager following Tumbra's successful third-placed finish in the Di Bradini Cup.

Assistant Manager: Mark Noble (48 y/o, TMB)

Noble was recently appointed to the job by Stoff - he will be taking care of tactics and ingame advice, as well as being the defensive coach. Previously manager of West Langham, Noble is more offensive-based than Stoff - however, he has adapted his tactics to Stoff's somewhat. Will they work well together? Or will their relationship crumble?

Goalkeeping Coach: Aiden Pearce (53 y/o, TMB)

Defensive Coach: Jon Seah (44 y/o, TMB)

Attacking Coach: Martin Lewis (59 y/o, TMB)

Fitness Coach: Samantha Lewington (40 y/o, TMB)

Scout: Harry Kew (65 y/o, TMB)

Physio: Coraline Lewis (34 y/o, TMB)

Players

Formation: 4-2-3-1

1 Ryan Hughes (Thurmond City)

Age: 32
Height: 190 cm
Weight: 86 kg

Goalkeeper Hughes was, is and will be the custodian of the goal for this team. A magnificent ability to stop shots which are often considered unsaveable, Hughes is a threat to look out for. However, he cannot stop set-pieces for toffee, and generally looks to the defenders to help him in this task.

12 Raymond Perry (Goldlion Arsenal)

Age: 31
Height: 183 cm
Weight: 73 kg

Perry, the man with cat-like reflexes, finds himself once again in the team. He'll be treating this as possibly an extended vacation, unless something happens to Hughes. He is a middle-of-the-road keeper, and is generally considered to be around decent for a team of Tumbra's standing.

23 Steven Haines (Waterford City)

Age: 34
Height: 184 cm
Weight: 79 kg

Haines made it into the team with the retirement of Larry Peterson, who retired aged 34. Although unlikely to play any major role in this tournament, but he is always ready to spring into action when needed. More of a technical player than a showman, he has very good control of his area.

2 Louis Paterson (Chalk Wharf)

Positions: LB, CB
Age: 29
Height: 179 cm
Weight: 81 kg

3 Brandon Brooks (Fayborough United) - Captain

Positions: CB, CDM, CM
Age: 32
Height: 180 cm
Weight: 85 kg

Brandon Brooks is the definition of a safe pair of hands. His command of the area is bar none, and is often called the best defender in Tumbra. While not the fastest, Brooks does fit in with Stoff's new philosophy of stopping attackers in defence - and works it out to a tee.

With Pandon's retirement from international football, Brooks becomes the Captain. Will he do well?

4 Steve Nelson (Thurmond United)

Positions: CB, RB, CDM
Age: 30
Height: 172 cm
Weight: 69 kg

5 Cecil Reyes (Hoxford United)

Positions: RB, CB, SW
Age: 27
Height: 180 cm
Weight: 72 kg

Reyes is part of a new brand of football that Robin Stoff is trying to bring in - physically imposing defenders that can scare the living daylights out of opposing strikers. Standing at just below six feet, Reyes is extremely athletic and will chase after every single ball.

13 Ian Keum (Chalk Wharf)

Positions: CB, LB, RB
Age: 25
Height: 174 cm
Weight: 66kg

14 Alex Tucker (Metz FC)

Positions: LB, CB, RB
Age: 29
Height: 168 cm
Weight: 54 kg

Alex Tucker is the shortest and lightest member of the team, but that does not mean everything in the world of football. Tucker is fast, agile and jumps like a spring - managing to jump up to 200 cm - taller than most people are. This also means that he has been responsible for some fantastic last-ditch goal-line saves, using his incredible speed to catch up to forwards.

15 Roger Baker (Thurmond City)

Positions: CB, RB
Age: 30
Height: 182 cm
Weight: 71 kg

6 Henry Butler (Connaught FC) - Vice Captain

Positions: CDM, CM, LM
Age: 29
Height: 171 cm
Weight: 63 kg

Butler quietly and efficiently established himself as the top CDM in Tumbra, with his recent showing at the Cup of Harmony speaking volumes about his quality. Extremely well-versed in the defensive arts of football, Butler will run rings around the opponent, showing them how stubborn the Tumbran defence can be at times.

7 John Rhys-Stevens (Merton FC)

Positions: CDM, CB
Age: 24
Height: 175 cm
Weight: 70 kg

Rhys-Stevens put in a quiet yet determined campaign during the Cup of Harmony and the Eagle's Cup, proving once again that the mature-beyond-his-age midfielder is ready for the full rigour of international football. His most unforgettable moment may have happened in Valanora, but that was what brought him into the spotlight for the first time...

8 Almar Hussein (Connaught FC)

Positions: LW, CM, CAM
Age: 21
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 56 kg

Another star from the Di Bradini Cup campaign, Hussein's young age raises the question of whether he is too young to take part in international football. Some say that he is an experiment to see whether Oliver Ganson can be rushed into service as the replacement for Henry Pandon, but we never know with Robin Stoff. An aerial master, his linkup plays are excellent and more often than not he will score headed goals out of nowhere. He will be relishing this chance to re-link with Stoff, the ex-U21 manager.

9 Robert Alexander (Thurmond United)

Age: 31
Positions: CAM, LM, RM
Height: 176 cm
Weight: 74 kg

Alexander rose to the occasion exceptionally well when Henry Pandon was taken off injured, being the star of the show in the Eagle's Cup, along with Henry Butler. He has that ability to see goalscoring opportunities where others do not - this leads to him being played as a raumdeuter, or space invader.

10 Albert Foster (Goldlion Arsenal)

Age: 29
Positions: RW, LW, CF
Height: 169 cm
Weight: 62 kg

Foster is fast, and he knows it. At twenty-six years of age, Foster relies on pure speed and skill to get past and befuddle his poor opponents, usually leaving them in the dust with his magnificent speed. He often sets up counterattacks on the wing, which makes him a prime target for defenders.

16 William Coleman (Thurmond United)

Age: 32
Positions: CDM, CM
Height: 180 cm
Weight: 79 kg

17 Arnold Lowe (Fayborough United)

Age: 29
Positions: RM, CM
Height: 172 cm
Weight: 71 kg

18 Kevin Monaghan (Waterford City)

Age: 24
Positions: CDM, CM, CB
Height: 169 cm
Weight: 62 kg

Stoff's latest strategy seems to be putting quick, young people into the team to ensure the ball gets up the field, fast. Monaghan is known for his stopping skills, but is a little short.

19 Justin Bielsen (Wildrspring Wanderers)

Age: 27
Positions: RM, LM
Height: 179 cm
Weight: 74 kg

20 Ervin Geeson (Sondon AFC)

Age: 33
Positions: CDM, CB
Height: 181 cm
Weight: 77 kg

11 John Krajewski (Humboldt Albion)

Age: 24
Positions: ST, LW, LM
Height: 181 cm
Weight: 81 kg

Krajewski takes on the mantle of striker for this world cup cycle, in a team strangely bereft of Henry Pandon's guidance. He plays very differently from Pandon though,
something attributed to his Quebecois ancestry.

21 Oliver Ganson (Rosenfeldplatz FC, Abanhfleft)

Age: 20
Positions: ST
Height: 176 cm
Weight: 54 kg

Here he is. The sporting legend. This is his time to shine. What have three years in Abanhfleft done to the lad from Ilcaster? Only time will tell.

22 Peter Jones (West Langham)

Age: 27
Positions: ST, CAM
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 64 kg

Jones is the third striker in Tumbra's striking options - a stalwart choice if there ever was one. While there was a chance for him to ascend to the number 21 jersey, Jones chose to remain with 22, as it was, to him, the more iconic choice. The days of him scoring at will in the Di Bradini Cup are long gone, but Jones has since evolved into a quiet, efficient striker with a deadly right foot.

The Stadia

Wembley National Stadium, Goldlion City - 90,000

Image

The National Stadium is certainly the largest dedicated football stadium in Tumbra - and that is saying a lot. Located in the north of Goldlion City, traffic from there and the airport is usually atrocious, but the Tube does have a dedicated system servicing the station on matchdays. This stadium will host the games against [TBA], with 10,000 seats being allocated to away fans.

City of Thurmond Stadium, Thurmond - 53,000

Image

Home to Thurmond City FC, this stadium, while not the largest stadium in Thurmond (New Trafford takes that title), is certainly the more modern one. Located just a hop, a skip and a jump away from the city centre, and five kilometres away from the airport (with a direct train service to boot). This stadium will host the games against [TBA], with 7,500 seats being allocated to away fans.

Thefield Stadium, Connaught - 44,742

Image

Thefield Stadium (pronounced Theh-feld) is located in Connaught, fifty-six kilometres from Thurmond, and is home to Connaught FC - some of the league's most dedicated supporters. While not the newest stadium, Tumbra fans are known to show a great atmosphere while there. Easily reachable by train, plane or car. This stadium will host the games against [TBA] with 5,000 seats being allocated to away fans.

About Tumbra

A map of Tumbra can be found here.

The Royal Federal Republic of Tumbra is a nation of over 67 million people is an extremely diverse nation, welcoming people from all around the world to its shores. Tumbra has often been called an "immigrant nation", simply because it has so many cultures and values that the traditional Tumbran identity has been moulded and kneaded to fit the new Tumbran demographic. That being said, however, 87.1% of the population is still white - but the proportion of nonwhite people is significantly higher in metropolitan areas.

A great Wikipedia article on the nation can be found here.

Tumbra: Weather

Tumbra has a temperate climate, with plentiful rainfall all year round. The temperature varies with the seasons seldom dropping below −11 °C (12 °F) or rising above 35 °C (95 °F). The prevailing wind is from the south-west and bears frequent spells of mild and wet weather from the Sarian Sea, although the eastern parts are mostly sheltered from this wind since the majority of the rain falls over the western regions the eastern parts are therefore the driest. Sarianese currents, warmed by the Paradystopian Cheese Desert, bring mild winters; especially in the west where winters are wet and even more so over high ground. Summers are warmest in the south-east of Tumbra, being closest to the Esportivan Federal Republic mainland, and coolest in the north. Heavy snowfall can occur in winter and early spring on high ground, and occasionally settles to great depth away from the hills.

Some packing advice that the Foreign Office has for travellers is to pack warm clothes. Always, always consult the Met Office, the Environment Agency or the Lackish Environment Protection Agency for additional information and advice on the weather.

If tourists decide to go on hikes, here are some precautions to take.

- never practice these activities alone;
- always hire an experienced guide from a reputable company;
- buy travel insurance that covers helicopter rescue and medical evacuation;
- ensure that your physical condition is good enough to meet the challenges of your activity;
- advise a family member or friend of your itinerary, including when you expect to be back to camp;
- know the symptoms of acute altitude sickness, which can be fatal;
- sign up with your embassy's location service; and,
- obtain detailed information on trekking routes or ski slopes before setting out and do not venture away from marked trails or slopes.

Tumbra: Religion

While previously an extremely devout nation, Tumbra has seen a gradually increasing number of people becoming non-religious ever following 1945. The two main religions present in the nation include Humanism and Protestantism, with 36% and 22% of the population identifying themselves as that. 21% of people identified as non-religious, while the remainder were made up of minor religions.

That being said, however, tourists should not attempt to incite violence against any creed or faith - such an incident will result in immediate deportation to the tourist's home country and a ban on entering the country for five years minimum.

Tumbra: Travel

Travelling to Tumbra is not very difficult. All one needs to do is to obtain a visa before setting off on one's trip to Tumbra, which will be approved 95% of the time - unless there is a very blatant security concern, after which the tourist will be detained and brought in for questioning. International flights land at many airports throughout Tumbra, though the main airport served is the Goldlion City International Airport, in the south-west of Goldlion.

Within Tumbra itself, however, it is more than recommended that tourists use public transport when commuting in Tumbra. Tumbra has an extensive rail network, and tourists are advised to use those instead, as the roads are excellent but are often narrow and congested, especially in urban areas.

Traffic drives on the left. Use caution when entering a traffic circle (roundabout). Pedestrians should use caution when crossing streets and be mindful that traffic is usually coming from the opposite direction than what they may be used to.

If using taxis, only use officially marked ones - however, carsharing applications like Uber are allowed in the country.

Tumbra: Language

The lingua franca and the national language is English - most Tumbrans often do not understand much else. The outlying Territories - Lackland, Sofan and Artumo - have their own dialects and languages which are recognised by the constituent countries, but not by the official Tumbran government, which uses English for all official purposes.

Tumbra: Food

Tumbran cuisine is the specific set of cooking traditions and practices associated with Tumbra. Tumbran cuisine has been described as "unfussy dishes made with quality local ingredients, matched with simple sauces to accentuate flavour, rather than disguise it." However, Tumbran cuisine has absorbed the cultural influence of those who have settled here, producing many hybrid dishes, such as chicken tikka masala - the national dish of Tumbra.

Tumbran cuisine has traditionally been limited in its international recognition to the full breakfast, fish and chips, and the Christmas dinner. Other Tumbran dishes include the Sunday roast, steak and kidney pie, shepherd's pie, and bangers and mash. Tumbran cuisine has many regional varieties within the broader categories of Nicodian, Lacklandian and Artumoan cuisine. Each has developed its own regional or local dishes, many of which are geographically indicated foods such as Cornish pasties, the Pilkshire pudding, Cumberland Sausage, Arbroath Smokie, and Artumo cakes.

Tumbra: Sports

Tumbra's national sport is football, though rugby union and cricket are often in with a shout. Tumbran supporters are usually very rowdy, sometimes crossing over into hooliganism - something which the authorities have absolutely zero tolerance for, local or otherwise.

It is recommended not to insult football supporters who are drunk, incapitated, or worse. Doing so may spark a riot, which has happened in the past.

The use of fire-related items (like flares) are strictly prohibited inside stadiums. If discovered, the offender will recieve a fine and have the offending item confiscated. Hooliganism is absolutely not tolerated and will be dealt with strictly.[/spoiler]

Chapter ⅠⅠⅠ (A Special/A homage)

I woke up at six hours in the morning.I brushed my teeth.I got outside and bought some bread.I returned home by six ten,had my breakfast.I showered myself, like every day, doing the same things the same way, nothing should be different, noting could've been different.I arrived at the station 7:30."Inspector Papp good morning!","Good morning chief-inspector Ionescu.".At the coffe room I saw inspector Mihailescu, reading,I read the book's title:Adventurele Domn Hi Node Cerurile."Here are thy tickets inspector Mihailescu!","Thank you Chief-Inspector Ionescu.Reading something interesting beyond the files?",to I replied "I've been reading one thing here, other there...",and he said "Ah,i am reading this book I found in a really very rare and auld book store.",then I replied "Is that the one I showed thee?",to his answer:"No,this one is even special!I tell thee the address later." to my reply :"Ah,okay.Thank you!".
I entred my office, sat at my chair and opened the case file, the people's names that I'd have to interrogate.Analysing their names and witnesses very weall and carefully before going into meeting them, but I also had to check if there were any conclusion from any evidence.Reading the papers I just confirmed who I should interrogate first:the girl's parents.Drinking coffee at my mug, pondering things, why a child som small, why so young? That was when I paid attention to the upper- and leftmost drawer in my desk,I saw a book.A book I'd've read!It brang me memories, happy memories that cause me sadness and pain, something about fantastical poket monsters and women with fox ears, that someone gave me.It's getting late,I went to the girls' house to talk to her parents to find out that her father was at a work's travel. Her mother told me the same thing that I already knew from the files, neighbours did not help much, but the evidence showed usefull.I just had to go to an address:strada Alexandru Ioan Cuza,nº 20.
Arriving there I saw her again,Mihaela Ioana Apilescu,I thought she did not had seen me,but she did, also she did not even come onto me.I arrived at an weird place,it looked like a place that was too bad for a mafia, nothing knew I.After ordering a fizzy drink I began pondering."Here's your soda!" said the 'barwoman',and she asked me "What are you doing here?Thou dost not look like someone who'd be here,so low",at one thing she was right I searched very low this time, but I had quickly answered her that "these clothes are just to be well dressed for the ladies, the education was given by my parents and I am doing 'personal businesses' here",to which he politely told me "Alright then.My name is Iohanna if thou needest to buy any drink.",two minutes later she came back and said:"That's for thee,a girl with black hair sent you.","Ah okay then.",and I began pondering two things:which kind of place was that and if the girl that sent me another sweetened carbonated beverage was Mihaela Ioana Apilescu.

Mattijanan Roster and Information for World Cup 77

The Story So Far

After a shocking debut World Cup 75 qualifying campaign that saw Mattijana win just one match and fail to progress to the finals, Mattijanan football experienced a significant revamp with a turnover of both management and players. Matej Ljubanik, previously of FK Petrovijanka was appointed as the first full-time national coach following the disappointment with a variety of staff joining him from The top Mattijanan teams. The change in staff has naturally brought a change of style with the high-energy attacking style dropped and a more skilful, but conservative approach taken in possession, a punchy counter-attack and more shape defensively preferred.
The change has bought results with a better run in last year's Campionata Esportiva in the regime's infancy and much fewer goals conceded than ever before. There is still work to do however, as was shown in the qualifying stage of World Cup 76, in which Mattijana won more matches than ever before at a tournament, but once again missed out on a place at the finals.
Yet qualifying for World Cup 77 ended in disappointment yet again, with the team losing several key matches and dropping to the bottom end of the group table. Campionato Esportiva 19 will be a vital time for a comeback.

Recent Results:

Islana Luniga 1-4 Mattijana (Campionato Esportiva)
Damukuni 2-0 Mattijana (Campionato Esportiva)
Tomikosan 1-1 Mattijana (Cup of Harmony)
Jerusalem 1-0 Mattijana (Cup of Harmony)
Schottia 4-0 Mattijana (Cup of Harmony)

Team Info

World Rank: 102
Style Modifier= -1
Team Colours: Green and yellow
Away kit: Navy and Black
National Association: MattijanaFusbalBand (MFB)

Head Coach: Matej Ljubanik
After a successful, but not scintillating playing career, Ljubanik started his management career with mid-table division 2 side, Savaflug, who had recently lost Max Juremchuk to division 1 side Revinka. He lead the side to an unexpected 3rd in the table, just short of a promotion place, but achieved his goal of promotion the following year at which point there was speculation of him making a move to FK Petrovijanka or to Puljanka. Out of loyalty, he remained at Savaflug for a season, ensuring they retained their top flight status with a 14th/20th finish, before making the move to FK Petrovijanka.
After a slow start, Ljubanik began to make progress with his style of football and managed to lead his side to fifth in the championship with the promise of more progress the following year. That duly arrived with an incredible start to the season giving way to a consistent run of points that ended with a comfortable championship victory.
Another decent run at the start of his third season with the club saw Petrovijanka sitting in second place in the championship behind FK Burges. At that point, the national side began to show interest and Ljubanik made the commitment that was wanted by everyone apart from the supporters of Petrovijanka.

Ljubanik has a calm style of football with passing play encouraged and a punchy counter attacking system. Defensively, he likes to see meticulous organisation and clear defensive shape, something that was somewhat lacking under the previous coaching team.

Assistant Manager: Dominik Samikov (FK Burges)

The assistant manager at Championship leaders FK Burges hails from the North-East of Mattijana and began his career at Dinamo Legisaw, another division 2 side before then moving as one of the tactical staff to FK Burges, where he has since worked his way up the pecking order to assistant manager. He has an excellent tactical mind as well as good player welfare skills and helps out Ljubanik in both management areas. He has so far proved himself to be a capable aid.

Head Scout: Marcel Kuzbacher

Marcel Kuzbacher is a seasoned scout, mainly plying his trade for the famed Puljanka Academy. He has links with numerous players in the Mattijanan squad as well as the under-21 side and makes up the 3-man selection panel alongside Samikov and Ljubanik.

Fitness Coordinator: Jelena Neumanič

Jelena Neumanič is responsible for the diet and fitness of the squad, freeing up the main management team to think about tactical matters. She has a solid variety of exercises and is well-known for getting on player's backs if they don't keep up with their expected effort levels.

Psychologist: Samira Kazmir

Samira Kazmir is an experienced sports psychologist who has done work for both the summer and winter Olympic teams, the Mattijanan ITT side and the MRT motor racing team. She is responsible for the mental welfare of players, stretching from the collective mind-set to more personal issues for each individual in the squad and may have a tough task on her hands if this tournament turns out like the last.

The Medical Team:

Head Doctor: Dr Charlotte Smitič
Assistant Doctor: Dr Mattias Buranov
Physio: Martina Laramazič
Physio: Mika Glasnić

The Players:

GK-Matej Handanović-#1

The 27 year old Mattijanan number 1 plays under Matej Ljubanik at FK Petrovijanka and has been a solid, if unspectacular option between the sticks for most of his career. He has good handling skills and makes few mistakes, but could be replaced if he fails to make the spectacular stops expected of him.

LB-Helena Neumann-#2

The Burges Player is a regular in the championship leading side and will provide a good defensive option with the occasional run forward to help out the wingers. Barring any injuries or unlikely suspensions, she will play all of Mattijana's matches,

CB-Edvard Crajasović-#3

The towering centre back is a regular for a Revinka side currently sitting fifth in the division 1 table. His height gives him a significant advantage when defending high balls and presents a threat at set-pieces. However, he can be clumsy when faced with skilful runners and does rely on a more quick-footed defensive partner in order to be successful.

CB-Katija Burnisevič-#4

Another Burges Player, Burnisevič is a potential answer to Crajasović's clumsiness and is a quick, skilful and sure-footed player capable of taking the fight to those attempting to run through. She is a dedicated player, happy to chase any lost cause until the ball crosses the line. Her lack of physical strength may be her weakness however and she could be a potential target for more powerful strikers.

RB-Dominik Illisević-#5

An up and coming full-back for Puljanka, Illisević is a punchy and pacey player with outstanding fitness and good crossing ability. His defensive technique is the biggest question mark, but if he can have a solid match at the back, he will undoubtedly be a danger coming forward.

LM-Sophia Velezia-#6

A mazy winger with less raw pace, but the ability to turn any defender into a messy knot, Velezia is a constant challenge to keep quiet on her day and normally gets through at some point if she hits top form. Her mercurial nature is her biggest and arguably only weakness, but Mattijana will be well-placed if she can get it together.

CM-Marko Hojbjerg-#7

Another young midfielder at just 23, Hojbjerg is a playmaker with good awareness and passing ability and is the perfect fit for Ljubanik's technical brand of football. Useful for connecting the more attacking players ahead of him, he is also integral in providing the start or the killer pass in a counter-attack. When no forward options are available, he's not afraid to hit one and occasionally finds the back of the net from improbable ranges.

CM-Jago Adrianov-#8

Adrianov is the typical midfield enforcer with a hard tackle and a driving run on him which can terrorise both attackers and other midfielders. He's also not afraid to hit one from range with varying success. He is probably the most likely player to pick up cards however, so could be a potential liability.

RM-Jessika Struna-#9

A pacey winger who's preferred play is to make a run and then a cross, the 25 year old Struna is a dynamic and different part of the Mattijanan team. She normally plays for Revinka, but has been tipped for a move to Burges or Rapid Petrovijanka.

FW-Mathilde Lekarisa-#10

Rapid Petrovijanka's 26 year old forward is a lethal finisher with a left foot that makes up for a lack of power with high precision. She enjoys running onto through balls and cutting inside to curl shots into the far corners of the goal. She is expected to play well having scored 5 goals in her last 4 games for Rapid.

FW-Andreas Weiss-#11

The 28 year old Burges Striker has been a fixture in the Mattijanan team for a while now and has matched his performances for the national side with consistent scoring form for FK Burges. He is a poacher with the ability to be in the right place at the right time for any pull-back into the box. Also a good header of the ball, Weiss will be an intimidating target for high crosses if the Mattijanan plan-B is needed.

The Bench:

GK-Lucija Handanovic-#12-Age 25-FK Revinka
RB-Kevin Krychowiak-#13-Age 21-Matbirjke
CB-Marcel Hausmayer-#14-Age 31-FK Antalja
CM-Katarina Jakupovic-#15-Age 22-Sparta Snezn
RW-Sofiane Bisrali-#16-Age 21-FK Shalkar
CDM-Sezer Julianov-#17-Age 33-Rapid Petrovijanka
ST-Daniella Alaba-#18-Age 25-Puljanka

The Reserves:

GK-Martin Vaskaric-#19-Age 21-FK Antalja
LB-Lara Ljunavic-#20-Age 27-FK Revinka
CAM-Mattias Hoffman-#22-Age 23-Rapid Petrovijanka
FW-Katja Tauskas-#22-Age 23-Matbirjke

About Mattijana!

Mattijana is a huge safe nation with a significant, but proportionate population. It spans a fairly large range of climates with the far north a colder area, the central region temperate, the south Mediteranean and the South-East semi-desert. Petrovijanka, the setting for this competition, is located almost exactly in the centre of the country at 214-232 metres above sea level. It has summer highs of around 28°C and lows of -5°C in the winter. There is a high level of sunshine for most of the year with precipitation mostly snowfall in the winter months.

Culturally, Mattijana can also be divided into six regions. The West of the country is largely Germanic whilst the centre North is a mix of Slavic and Germanic cultures, centred around Mattijana's second city, Burges. The North and East are mainly Eastern European (closest to Polish irl) whilst the Centre (where Petrovijanka is situated) and the South are Slavic (similar to the Slovenian and Croatian cultures). There is an Arabic community in the South-East.
All Mattijanans speak the official language, Mattijanan. However, due to this not being spoken anywhere else in the World, English and German are well-spoken throughout the country whilst Arabic is taken on by the most intelligent students (in addition to English and German) as well as by those in the South-East.
There is no official religion in Mattijana due to this mix of cultures. Islam is popular in the South-East and parts of the South whilst some in the East follow the Mattijanan Orthodox church. Most people hold no religious belief, but believe in the universal philosophy of being kind, welcoming and helpful to others. Even in religious communities, it is these principals that are most talked of with religious figures used to preach them.
Due to the mix/match nature of Mattijanan cultures, religions are also a little mixed up. This is the reason that most muslim women do not wear headscarves.

Attitudes to drink and sex are fairly liberal whilst there is good gender, sexual and racial equality. Social mobility is also good and the rich earn only twice as much as the poorest.

The government follows mildly socialist policies meaning the tax rate is fairly high, but schools, hospitals and other public services are all well-funded and reasonably-priced. Taxes on large businesses are higher than on small ones. The government building is the MattiStaja, which is situated on Staja square in the centre of Petrovijanka. All six regions have their own smaller congresses however. Politicians are generally appreciated and although public decisions are limited to elections and important political decisions where the main population is the most affected, most citizens feel well represented due to the numerous meeting and discussion opportunities with their local politician.
All parties follow a similar philosophy, but mainly disagree on where to fund the most. The MattijanaLeušaBuro is the current elected party, but other popular parties are the ViroBuro (who generally promote the needs of the environment) and the NašinalBuro (who promote funding for employment opportunities). Despite this attitude, unemployment benefits are actually quite low in order to encourage people to be hard-working.

National Stadiums

Due to a large land mass and numerous good quality stadia, the Mattijanan FA prefers to rotate games around a few different grounds. Having said that, the Stadijo Nasinal and the Stadijo Dinamov play host to the bulk of the matches due to the central position of Burges and Petrovijanka, and their reputation for providing excellent hosting services.

Stadijo Dinamov
The Stadijo Dinamov in Petrovijanka is the second biggest football stadium in Mattijana and is one of the five stadiums that share the hosting honours for international matches. It is used on a weekly basis by FK Petrovijanka, Matej Ljubanik's old club, having built by them in 1940 and upgraded twice in 1972 and 2001. The capacity is 60,000.
The stadium is found on the East side of the PetroviOtok, near to the Stadijo Kolmetzov, one of Mattijana's international cricket grounds.

Stadijo Nasinal-Burges
Image

The Stadijo Nasinal is Mattijana's largest multi-purpose sports stadium with retractable grass and astroturf surfaces to cater for cater for Cricket, Hockey, Rugby and Football matches. There is a capacity of 90,000. The Stadium was built in 1985 and heavily upgraded just 2 years ago in preparation for the Cricket T20 World Cup. It is situated on the South bank of the Juliana river, just next to the water and just East of the NordesParke.
