New Edomite National News Report

Opening bars of Pictures at an Exhibition play as a globe spins with pins popping up on various points of the world. Split screen images of natural disasters, celebrations, military actions, elections, royal ceremonies, celebrity events are showing, occasionally with New Edomite news anchors talking about them, and then fades to a news desk.

A raven haired woman with olive skin, dark brown eyes with a rosebud mouth, a slim nose and a statuesque figure sat behind a news desk with the New Edomite flag imposed over a silhouette map of the Allied States of New Edom behind her. “Good evening,” she said, looking up with a smile. It was clear that above the waist at least she wore nothing but a gold cross on a chain, though her image was pixelated for those nations censoring such an appearance. “I’m Lavinia Tuller, and this is a NENN Evening News."

"In international sports, our national water polo team, "The Penguins" started out strong with an excellent assist to Chloe Kafziel by Abram Zircah for the first goal. However the Boejoe team did a fine job keeping our team on their toes with their superb forward passing. The last four minutes of the game remained a tie between both teams. Our team kept the tie at the whistle thanks to a great save by Joseph Ben-Hadad in goal. The Bodoe's forward wing had scored the tying goal about 1 and a half minutes before that. Although our team gained posession they just could not penetrate a tough defense. This is an issue that the new national team coach, Miss Permiss, has said they've been facing in this tournament."

Permiss, shown outside a locker room with her arms folded but looking calm and friendly said, "Yes, we're up against some very tough defenses and very determined offenses, good all round teams so far. We're going to have to keep working really hard, focus on our teamwork and all do our parts well. I don't know what else to expect--we're playing against the best of the best out there, It's a great honour to be pitted against them. When you think how foundering our national sports program was in 2008 to 9, well, we're glad to be here and we're going to keep moving forward."

Back to the news desk, Lavinia Tuller, the anchor, continued. "Some commentators have worried that our team is slipping, going from a one point lead in two games to a tie, but support is still strong at home. So do what you do best, Penguins--swim for the win! And in national sports, the Silver Cup playoffs have started with..."

"In international sports, our national water polo team, "The Penguins" took their first loss in their division when Sphinxatopd scored with 1:05 left in the first sudden-death period scoring a victory.

"Many viewers thought that our team had it in the bag, as at midpoint of the first half we were leading 6-2, at halftime but Sphinxatopd siezed the initiative and following halftime had tied the match 8-8. Constandse’s winner was her lone goal. Emerging star Chloe Kafziel was paced by her opposite number with five goals. An unexpected brutality call benched Abram Zircah in the bottom half and reserve, but sports analysts doubt that it was Kafziel's fault. In spite of a strong offense and improving passing, the Sphinxatopd goalie was tough to beat, racking up 15 saves.

"The Penguins were unable to maintain their offense and appeared tired, even flagging by the time the match reached sudden death, and it was over when the timer went off. Our national team will be in everyone's thoughts and prayers. As our new President of the Council observed "You win some, you lose some. The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord."

"However President of the Council Adam Nicanor also recounted a story of a loss of his own, reminding people that his military career had begun with a humiliating retreat from the Jedorian border with his regiment in tatters, and reminds us that "You have to get back up again and go at 'em again." And with that reminder, we move on to men's football...

The Capital Times

Exert from the front page: It has been a tough tournament for the Seagulls as they have fought their way to the top of their group so far. In their most recent game they triumphed against Boejoe 10-9, their second victory against them this tournament. During the game the team was said to have performed exceptionally well with Makoto Hayte scoring three points. Unfortunately though, the captain Jace Rivers was taken out of the pool halfway through due to a leg injury. His status is still unknown, but speculation has been high over who might replace him as captain.

The Furby Islands Hospital

"Do you want the good news or the bad news?" the doctor said to Jace as he sat in a rather drab room.
"I'll start with the bad news first I guess," Jace sighed back in return.
At that moment the doctors eyes said it all to Jace. He would not be playing the rest of the tournament. The doctor saw it on Jace's face too. His eager expression quickly turning to the one of a man who has been through too much. The drab hospital room suddenly looked even worse.
"I'm sorry but your leg won't heal in time," the doctor quietly said.

[West Phoencia]

After match day 4 The West Phoenician Mermen stand at 1 Win, 1 loss and 2 Draws.

An average start to the Water Polo International Championship where the goal of Team manager Mr Derrick Von Kenta is to place in the top 3. Of course the perfect day would be ranked number 1, but with a number of other talented teams winning is going to be a challenge. The Mermen need to start winning the remainder of their matches, drawing would not be enough.

The Mermen have made two international appearances at the Aeropag Summer Olympic Games they qualified but failed to reach the Quarter-finals.

Whilst in the Regional Confederate Games they placed third winning bronze.

[West Phoencia]

The West Phoenician Mermen scored victory against Nanakai 9-4 that had West Phoenician fans in the stands go crazy. The match day 6 game victory has launched The Mermen into the top 8 Quarter-finals where they come up against The Furbish Islands.

A great move for the Mermen as the 1st Water Polo International Championship they are looking to place their mark early as a team not to underestimate and to give them some added experience before they attend a new Olympic Games.

[West Phoencia]

The West Phoenician Mermen triumphed in the quater-finals where they were up against Nakad. From the moment the whistle blew the Mermen knew it would be a tough match. Nakad had been in the same pool as them from the beginning and they dominated the pool.

The Mermen played a tough decence keeping the ball out of their zone as much as possible. Josiah Gryphon played brilliantly as goal keeper stopping a possible Nakad onslaught.

On the attack side Bastian Alexandre was the star player, scoring 4 goals for the game, 2 in the last quarter which enabled the Mermen to move into a lead position where for the rest of the match, they outdid themselves keeping the ball away from Nakad allowing the Mermen to win 9-7.

They know move into the final where they will go up against Kebac for a winner takes all....

[New Edom]

The New Edomite Penguins grieved. They had fought well, making it to their division's lead, but they had finally lost too many games, and the last, ironically, against a fellow naturist nation and ally, Nakad. Throughout the contest, they had rarely led by more than a point, facing the best teams in the world, fighting hard for every goal, every goal nearly exchanged for another. All reserves committed, all worn out but fighting and game.

Finally though the Nakad team had swept them from the waters. They were hammered by Nakad. The team, wearing only their caps and fig leaf emblems on them, had a powerful weapon, which was their interchangeable and multi-positionable team. Every team mate was apparently trained to take any position as need be. This was thought nebulous and foolish by the Edomites, but they now saw the wisdom of it. Nakad, too, had fought its way to the semi-finals.

Another factor may have been that Nakad focused its athletic programs on but a few sports, and this was one of them. Their superbest most highly trained and supported athletes, the quickest minds and bodies were on this team.

Whatever the reason, the Penguins seemed to lose heart against the Nakad national team. In spite of several combo attacks by Zircah, Kefziel, Micah and Yegg, they were unable to penetrate the rock like goal tending of Tyrone Womack. By contrast, expert passing by Stamp, Crisp, and Emiliee Styles led by goals by Wortham, Boon, Kacie Gregory and Augustine that rushed the Nakad team ahead. In the final minutes, the Edomites were unable to score, exhausted, like zombies compared to their opposite numbers. Morale was done, they were beaten.


Manager Abigail Permis first bowed (Edomite custom) and then shook hands (Nakad custom) with Julianne Gabrielson, as did then the managers, assistant coaches and then teammates. While they were tired and disappointed it was somehow comforting that they were giving up their position to friends, whom they would no doubt meet again in the rippling waters of the field of honour.
