Sporting World Magazine and the Rugby Union FFR welcome you to the 25th edition of the Rugby Union World Cup, which will be held in the Federation of Free Republics. 36 teams have entered this edition of the RUWC and have been drawn into 6 groups of 6 based upon pots. This is the place to post referees and TMOs who can be 'appointed' as officials by RPers. If you are not participating in the tournament, you may still post officials in this thread. Rosters and RPs should be posted in the Everything Thread.

You should, at minimum post the official's name, national union and role. You are encouraged to post additional information. For an example of the format, you may review the Match Officials thread from RUWC 24. Each nation, whether entered in the current RUWC or not, may enter up to 4 referees and one TMO (television match official).

When RPing your matches, you may refer to this thread to pick a referee, two touch judges (chosen from amongst the referees) and a television match official for your team's match. Whoever RPs the match first will have the first right to choose the match officials, per NS Sports convention.

[Elejamie]

The ERF (Elejamian Rugby Federation) has announced that it will be sending three officials - two referees and one TMO - to the 25th Rugby World Cup in the Free Republics. Brian Kershaw, who also refereed in the 24th RWC, will be joined by TMO Joaquín Santa Cruz (who had to drop out of official duties at the aforementioned 24th RWC) and Yevgeni Kolyanov.

Name: Brian Kershaw
National Union: Elejamian Rugby Federation (ERF)
Role: Referee/Touch Judge
Extra Information: Brian Kershaw can easily be summarised as "strict but fair". The strictness comes from the fact that he seems a bit too happy to stop play whenever something seems a bit off. Whether it be a tackle performed too hard, a scrum done incorrectly or a player coughs too loudly, he will stop play until the matter is resolved. The fairness, however, comes from his reluctance to give out cards to players; even if he does consult the assistant referee just for confirmation, there's still a [very] small chance that Kershaw won't hand out a card. Apart from that, he's an all-round good referee, with a good eye for details and he is also available for rugby league games.

Name: Yevgeni Kolyanov

Role: Referee/Touch Judge
Extra Information: Yevgeni Kolyanov has roughly twenty years of experience under his belt, making his big break in the 1997 ERC semi-final game between the Alvis Rams and the Murgon Bullfrogs at the age of 20. He knows the laws of rugby like the back of his hands and, although he takes his job and rugby very seriously, he's not afraid to make a joke every now and then or address the players as "my friend/s". The only downside is that he tends to be a little bit iffy with off-sides, only calling it 75% of the time.

Name: Joaquín Santa Cruz
National Union: Elejamian Rugby Federation (ERF)
Role: TMO
Extra Information: Another official with years of experience, having been a television match official for over ten years. Although he talks quickly (although not too quickly so you don't understand him) and he would sometimes slip into Spanish, he is very eagle eyed and would make judgements on the second or third viewing. Also, "Santa Cruz" is his surname so be sure to include both words; don't refer to him as "Santa" or "Cruz" as that would be incorrect.

[Darmen]

It should be noted that all Darmeni officials are extremely strict. Any fights or scuffles will draw an immediate reaction from the ref, and plenty of yellow cards. Arguing with the Ref, even by the captain, will not be tolerated and will immediately draw a yellow card as well. The refs are also not scared to show a red card for any offense, especially to players who may try to argue with them. The Referees will make it very clear to the players that they are there to play Rugby, and not to conduct a boxing match or debate. Also, the refs like to yell a lot, after all, they're in charge.

Extra Information: 32 years old, speaks English, the only female in the Darmeni contingent of Referees and one of only five in the DRU.

As a part of the effort of Lisander to evolve the rugby in all possible ways, these officials are being sent to take part in the RWC25.

Name:Stefan Caron
National Union:LRU
Role:Referee/Touch Judge
Extra Information: Caron is a man who lives the rules. He proves his knowledge about the rules every game. Not a single thing escapes him. He is also know by his ultra-conservative stance of "I only talk with the captain". If you're not the captain of your team, and bother this man, you will easily get a time in Sin Bin. He made this in last amateur championship finals to three players of Isny Valliant: "You are not captains, you have no right to be before me. Here, yellow cards for all of you."

Name: Henri Collere
National Union: LRU
Role: Referee/Touch Judge
Extra Information: His 30 years old (4 years younger than Caron) makes Collere the youngest referee to receive the prize of LRU oficial of the year. He is also an amateur player, and plays for Linville Lions XV.

Name:Anaëlle Florian
National Union:LRU
Role: TMO
Extra Information: She is an inside centre to Lilies (Lisander female XV team*), and also acts as referee/TMO in male rugby games. He is very observer and can even suggest things for the referees. She's a referee, but for this tournament, she will fulfill only the duties of TMO. Anaëlle should not be assigned to Lisander mathes, since she's twin sister of Arno Florian, #8 of the the Irises for this RWC.

[Mattijana]

The MattijanaRugbiBand (MRB) has announced that it will be sending three match officials (two on field and one TMO) to the upcoming Rugby Union World Cup in the Free Republics.
All the officials picked have extensive experience in the Mattijanan domestic rugby union leagues and all have their particular quirks, strengths and weaknesses.


Name: Matej Djanić
National Union: MattijanaRugbiBand (MRB)
Role: Referee/ touch judge
Extra Information:

Widely regarded as the best referee in Mattijana with experience dating back 15 years, Djanić is an excellent man-manager, often using firm but witty tactics to explain who's boss. Any extensive arguing often brings a comment about football and a card. Mild scuffles are generally allowed to run their course unless something particularly untoward occurs, in which case the TMO and cards may be summoned, a stance that has earned him some criticism from those who say that petty scuffles should be stamped out of the game.
Despite this, his knowledge and application of the rules is almost always exceptional and his wit has made him a much-loved figure among Mattijanan rugby fans. He can speak appropriate levels of Mattijanan, English and German.



Name: Katarina Mikelova

Role: Referee/ touch judge
Extra Information:

One of the growing number of female referees in Mattijanan rugby, Mikelova has impressed many sceptics during her first 10 years of experience. She has a more serious approach to people-skills, but is often able to empathise with players. Her main criticism is her reluctance to hand out yellow cards for repeat offenders, often preferring to treat each incident separately.
Her application of the rules is less consistent than Djanić, but is percieved to be improving with experience. All parts of the game are well-officiated with the possible exception of the scrum, where unfair feeds and dodgy pushing often go unpunished.
She speaks the recquired levels of Mattijanan, English and French.



Name:Lucija Kranjnik

Role: Referee/ touch judge
Extra Information:
The least-experienced member of the Mattijanan officiating team, Kranjnik takes after Djanić in her use of wit to deal with any dissenters. Some have criticised her for not applying the rulebook in all but the most extreme cases, but many more love her engaging style. Her game management is has also been criticised, with inconsistent advantages often seen, but her knowledge of the rules is first-class and widely lauded.
She speaks sufficient Mattijanan, English and French.


Name: Tomas Kirchmann

Role: TMO
Extra Information:

Tomas Kirchmann genrally prefers to mix his on-field and TMO duties in Mattijana, but specialises in off-field officiating. He has a generally formulaic approach to dealing with incidents, but discusses them logically with the on-field referee. He rarely fails to spot things, but his over-officiance has been criticised previously. He enjoys his TMO duties however, and occasionally comes up with comment or two once he has made a decision. He has the recquired levels of Mattijanan, English and German.

[Neu Engollon]

The Alpen Valley Rugby Union of Neu Engollon submits the following officials for the 25th Rugby Union World Cup:

Name: Giuseppi Reinvaughn
National union: Alpen Valley Rugby Union
Role: Referee/Touch judge
Extra information: A solid Sir that has a lot of respect from the players and fellow referees equally. Reinvaughn is a big fan of scrums to settle most every instance they can be utilized. He has an eagle eye for watching the spacing on lineout tunnels and eight men that scoop the ball out too early from scrums. Speaks Frandit, English, German and Italian.

Name: Erhard DeBoule
National union: Alpen Valley Rugby Union
Role: Referee/Touch judge
Extra information: Erhard is known as a tough sir, and will not tolerate shenanigans on the pitch, especially when it's liable to cause injury. He is unflinchingly fair and unbiased, except when it comes to the neighboring Austrakians, which won't be a problem here as they aren't in the tournament. Speaks Frandit, English, German and French.

Name: Walter Tramell
National union: Alpen Valley Rugby Union
Role:TMO
Extra information: One of the longest serving TMOs for the AVRU on NETV. Tramell encourages referees to trust their judgment in most instances and only rely on replays in the most controversial of calls. Speaks Frandit, English, French, German and Italian.

Name: Stefan Elvar
National union: Alpen Valley Rugby Union
Role: Touch judge
Extra information: Stefan eats, sleeps and breathes rugby. He is a die hard fan of the AVRU, regardless of the team. During a charity event match a few years ago between the Burgunden Brawlers and Schwartzgarten Warriors, the young autistic man was given a flag and a chance to be closer than ever to watching rugby. He proved himself so thoroughly that he was given a permanent job with the AVRU. He is unable to be a full referee due to the severity and level on the spectrum of his autism, but did an excellent job at touch judge during the 24th WC. Speaks Frandit and English.

[Union of Socialist Alpine Republics]

Name: Gilleasbaig Mac Cormaig
National union: Alpine Rugby Union (previously Caledonian Rugby Union)
Role: Referee/Touch Judge
Extra Information: 48 years old. Speaks Scottish Gaelic and English. Very strict referree. Don't hesitate to blow the whistle if he sees an infraction.

Name: Kazimierz Grzywacz
National union: Alpine Rugby Union (previously Pruski Związek Rugby)
Role: Referee/Touch Judge
Extra Information: 39 years old. Speaks Polish, German and English. The best referree from Prusy Krolewskie. But if a player argues with him, he can easily be influenced.

Name: Gaëtane Dubois

Role: TMO
Extra Information: 31 years old. Speaks French, English and Spanish. She takes her job at heart and, when the referree needs her, she may take her time to review from every angles.

Extra Information: 59 years old. Speaks English.
