Season 1
Welcome to the first season of NS College Baseball, the first international college baseball competition (to my knowledge) in the 14+ year history of NS Sports! This competition will also feature the debut of a new baseball scorinator, Baseinator, which is the first baseball scorinator to support style modifiers and park factors.
Who will be the host?
For the first season, I will be the sole host for NS College Baseball. All games will be scorinated by me using Baseinator 1.0 (or any minor revision, meaning a bug fix, that I may release during the season to address any issues with the scorinator that come to light).
How many schools may I enter?
Each user may enter two signups of up to 6 schools but no nation may enter schools into more than one signup. One signup must be declared the "puppet" of the other. In the event that I need to reduce the numbers, I may leave out "puppet" signups and/or remove lowest ranked schools. Each signup will be treated as a single entity for RP bonus purposes (roster bonuses will be applied to each school based upon the posting of a roster).
If you only want to sign up schools from a single nation, then you can enter up to 6 schools, which should be ranked. If no ranking from 1 (strongest school) to 6 (weakest school) is specified, then the order in which you sign them up will be used as a ranking.
What is a style modifier? What is a park factor?
A style modifier is a number between -5 and 5 that represents your school's style of play. It can be a whole number (integer) or any decimal number between -5 and 5. Unlike other scorinators, Baseinator does not imposed any arbitrary limit on the number of decimal places (other than the one imposed by the format that computers use to store decimal numbers), so I will not be imposing any limit on style modifiers other than requiring that they be between -5 and 5. A negative style modifier will decrease scoring. A positive style modifier will increase scoring. A style modifier of 0 will have no net effect on scoring, on average.
A park factor is a number between 50 and 200 that represents the effect of a school's home ballpark on runs scored. Like style modifiers, a park factor can be a whole number or a decimal number. A park factor of 100 is neutral. A park factor below 100 represents a pitchers park and a park factor above 100 represents a hitters park. Park factors will only be applied when your school is at home. For neutral site games, the park factor of the stadium where the game is being played will be applied.
What will the format of this competition be?
For the inaugural season, all teams will play a 60 game regular season schedule, consisting of a number of conference games plus some non-conference games. Conference sizes may be unbalanced but all conferences of 10 or fewer teams will play 6 games against each conference opponent. Conferences of 12 schools will be split into two divisions, each of which will play home-and-away 3-game series against each of their division rivals plus a 3 game series against each team in the other division. At the conclusion of the regular season, each conference will hold a conference tournament, with the winner of the conference tournament receiving an automatic bid to the NSCB College World Series tournament. Remaining College World Series teams will be selected based upon a combination of win-loss record, conference quality, strength of non-conference schedule and activity during the season.
The NSCB College World Series will use a format similar to that of the NCAA Division I Baseball tournament. The exact details will depend upon the number of schools participating in this season of NSCB, but it will contain no more than 64 schools unless we end up with significantly more than the 298 teams that competed in RL NCAA Division I baseball last year.
