Turori Retains New-Look Uniforms for World Cup 77

Image
Eel's Park, Eelandii, Turori:: The Turori Eels will dive head first into World Cup 77 Qualifying retaining their brand new Uniform look despite failing to impress at the World Cup 76 finals. Turori, the winners of the 67th Cup of Harmony after failing to qualify for World Cup 75, returned to the finals in Ceni & Electrum with a new energy and a lot of promise. They were quickly knocked back to the floor, defeats to Chiata and the Royal Kingdom of Quebec set up a pride-only matchup against the defending World Cup Champions, the Unified Sunrise Islands. The Eels dropped the match 2-1 to finish bottom of Group F with zero points while the Unified Sunrise Islands would go on to win their second consecutive World Cup title.

While the Eels were unable to advance beyond the group stage, and unable to improve their World Ranking, there will be the one take-away from the World Cup 76 finals. The kits. In thinking about the design of the Kit, its aesthetics were considered for performance on the end of the players, but also intimidation from a visual standpoint. It was a nice touch to add the shoulder spikes which, of course are a nod to the mascot 'Nigel the Eel' who some have, at times, rumored to be our overlord as well. When our players are in full sprint, these detached spikes will be at full extension and really add to the flavor of the kit.

The Eels will be decked out in Eelskin Brown once again during World Cup 77, bringing the silhouette of the Cocoabo with them throughout the multiverse as they look to bring home a World Cup Trophy for the first time in the nations long, somewhat storied history, in the World Cup Edition numbered the same as Turori's famous Auto-Racing star iBen Toralmintii.

Vilita & Turori Motorsports on Thin Ice :: Speaking of Toralmintii, the Turorian star's team in the World Grand Prix Championships has been sent into disarray with the abandonment of Aboveland pilot Terho Talvela. Co-Located in Rockii Coast, Vilita and Eelandii, Turori; Vilita & Turori Motorsports was expected to compete for the title during WGPC 15 with the return of WGPC 14's 1-2 driver tandem of Talvela and Toralmintii. However, with the announcement that Talvela - a late pre-season signing prior to WGPC 14, was not going to renew his contract with Vilita & Turori Motorsports sent the defending constructors champion team into chaos, needing not only a second driver but also sponsorship in order to compete. Vilita & Turori Motorsports have missed both test sessions and it is unknown whether they will get the funding required to make it to the first race weekend.

Altaraiiz Earns WCC Refereeing Certification :: Turorian referee Ontreeala Altariiz has earned their certification allowing them to officiate WCC events and will begin doing so during World Cup 77 Qualfying matches within the Atlantian Oceania region. Depending on performances, Altariiz may also be invited to officiate matches across the multiverse. The 39 year old referee started officiating youth level matches at the age of 16 and has worked up through the structure, becoming a head referee in the Declasse and officiating Vilitan Cup matches by the age of 24. Now, Altariiz is one of the top head referees in the Vilitan Stellar Division and has previously officiated matches in the Atlantian Oceania Confederation of Assocation Football Regional Championship competition as well as the Invitation-Only Eagle's Cup Competition. World Cup 77 will be Altariiz' first foray into refereeing at the WCC level.

Hello! And welcome to Channel 7 News! Tonight, we're here with Sulsu himself to talk about his participation in the most recent World Cup!

Sulsu, I'd like to start out by asking what you think about the teams you'll be facing off against. *holds out microphone to Sulsu*

"WhAt lAdy mEAn? SulSu no SEe teEns. WhY laDy waNY sulSu tO fiGht kiDs?"

..No no... I said TEA- you know what, nevermind. Tonight you will be going up against The Great Pi! What do you think are your chances? *holds microphone up to sulsu*

"PiE? WhErE is Pie? SuLSu hUngrY. SulSU hopE hE geT to eAt fiSh pIE."

I... don't think you're allowed to eat them... do you even think you're qualified to be participating?

"LaDy iS conFuSinG sulSu. IS jusT fiElD. SulSu allOweD To StanD oN fiEld."

*interviewer runs hand through her hair* Do you at least think you'll make it to the Cup of Harmony?

"CuP? WhEre iS cuP? SulSu wanT somEthinG to driNk."

Okay, I give up, this interview was a mistake.

  • Jamie Williamson, Assistant to the Delegate Ambassador: I assume that the one you want is Limecaek Brew, right?
  • D-A Smith: Riiiii... te. Thaaaa... nks muchly...
  • Attorney: Your honour, I would like to introduce the case of Tinhampton vs Piste-Land. Piste-Land claims that the Tinhamptonian delegation to the nation, before their stylisation as Ambassador to Piste-Land, denounced it for its technology.
  • Judge: I will be hearing both sides of this case. First to the prosecutors.
  • Prosecutor: We are not who you think we are! We are not poor! We are not a nation exclusively of sailors! We use planes as a mode of international transport!
  • Judge: Court finds in favour of Piste-Land, and mandates that Tinhampton pays 10 million Universal Standard...
  • Jury Member: Oh, my Violet! It's the Super Coupers all over again!
  • Alexander Smith: I've just walked in here, and I don't even know what I'm... [BAM!]
  • Judge: Before you ask, I will not change my judge...

  • Assistant Williamson: STOP IT, ALEX! I've had to follow you for at least a few blocks now in order to get you back!
  • D-A Smith: Yeshhh...
  • Assistant Williamson: Now, let's see what's on TV back home, huh?
    (a short while later...)
  • Assistant Williamson: OK. TBS Nightly News it is...
  • TBS Newsreader: In sport tonight, Tinhampton will be pitted in their first ever Football World Cup qualifier against Electrum. Although it appears unlikely that Tinhampton will come away with a shock debut win, hopes remain high for the unlikely mixed bag of Tinhamptonians that line up...
  • Assistant Williamson: "Ingredients: Aqua, Yeast, Barley, Lime, Hyperdigested Caek, Isinglass-Like Substance, Silicon Dioxide. Also contains twenty ingredients known exclusively to members of the Eastern Brewery." And that's why I don't order from the Strangers' Bar...

Match Preview: Kaisaru vs Mattijana

Mattijana will get their World Cup 77 campaign underway tonight in Kaisaru, as Matej Ljubanik's side chase qualification to their first world cup finals at the third attempt.

Following disappointment last season, Mattijana will be happy with the start they have been assigned this season, with unranked Kaisaru to play their debut international against the 98th ranked Mattijanan side. The only sore point from the Mattijanan point of view is that the match will not take place at the Stadijo Dinamov back home in Petrovijanka.

Kaisaru have a full squad of players to choose for their big night, whilst Mattijana have also brought the whole squad to Kaisaru. The only possible absentee will be striker Daniella Alaba, who picked up an ankle knock in training this week.
The availability of key players will be handy for Ljubanik, but with the opposition inexperienced on the world stage and an important home game to come against Brenecia, he may well choose to leave out some regular starters in place of some young blood, particularly after some impressive displays by the Under 23s at the Di Bradini Cup.

Despite this, 3 points will be the overwhelming priority and spoiling the party for Kaisaru is a must if they are to build on last season's solid mid-table finish, a fact that was underlined in yesterday's press conference as Ljubanik said he was "prepared to use all of his team's might", whilst team captain Andreas Weiss was keen to emphasise that all the players wanted a "clean and professional performance".

On the match:

Matej Ljubanik: "We need to get off to the best possible start tomorrow evening. I am not afraid to use all of our might because a win for us is necessary. It is a good occasion for them, but we must be sure to keep them quiet and get the job done."

On his team's qualification prospects:

"It will definitely be a tough task, but I think we have an outside chance of qualification. As far as the other sides are concerned, there are plenty of banana skins in this group and hopefully for us, we will be one and we will take advantage of the other ones. So once again, we are optimistic, but I think this time it is more justified. The squad is more experienced than ever, so I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do."

Predicted Lineups:

Mattijana:

1: Matej Handanovic GK
2: Helena Neumann LB
3: Edvard Crajasovic CB
4: Katija Burnosevic CB
5: Dominik Ilisevic RB
6: Sophia Velezia LW
7: Marko Hojbjerg CM

Usually, a breakout top-performer or longtime roleplayer on a domestic 95X lineup had the chance to make the National Team.

That is, if 95X had a domestic league.

After the big-name foreign players left 95X clubs following the demise of Soccer League X, the remaining nine clubs were left without a league. They considered an offer by the multinational "SUN.League" yet decided it was the wrong time given the political upheaval. At the same time, nine remaining teams and the amount of time remaining would make for a quick season. Making matters worse, the Capital of Culture Corporation attempted to block the Cascadia and Pacific City teams from taking the field, claiming they owned controlling interests in their stadia. The Lucky Businessperson in Pacific City was controlled by legitimate, separate gambling and stock exchange interests so there was no contest there. Equestrian Grounds in Pacific City also proved a separate money chain. The Cascade Dome was harder to prove, but was found to have enough separate interest that they in fact bought out Capital of Culture's stake. Same couldn't be said for the Cascade Bank Stadium, though, which would cause SC Cascadia to play home games at Taylor Street Stadium.

It was decided to host a league amongst themselves, along with the national teams from 95X overseas nations 71X, Portlandistan, QBasic, and Salem Oregon, also taking the pitch although ineligible for 95X UICA entries.

The players on the former Brooklyn Cultures were dispersed amongst the other nine, with 95X NT backup Carrie Camassia going to University City.

1 Millennium City 24 19 1 4 39 14 +25 58
2 Twentytwo Cacti 24 15 5 4 34 18 +16 50
3 71X NT 24 14 7 3 37 17 +20 49

12 Salem Oregon NT 24 1 6 17 14 41 −27 9
13 Portlandistan NT 24 0 5 19 4 46 −42 5
The season was considered a disaster for the clubs, as two of the visiting NTs finished with better records than all but two. Twentytwo Cacti relied on the strength of its youth development program and emerging college-like education program to keep a rotating fresh group of early-twentysomethings into the mix and earn second place, while Millennium City returned with an intact lineup. NTer Alyssa Yorkton had a great season and is a likely candidate for the 95X NT starting lineup, while 23-year old Megan Twoseventeenth had the best season of her career and is likely to get some sort of NT nod.

When the NT decisions were made, the expected invitations went out, and 95X introduced a reshuffled lineup.

World Cup 77 Preview

Baptism of Fire 64 recap

Great Caledonia and North Hybernia was placed in a group with Zambanana, Hernton and Nume. The Celts won 1-0 against Zambanana thanks to a goal by Anton. Great Caledonia and North Hybernia lost the 2nd game 1-0 against Hernton who showed more opposition than Zambanana. The 3rd game of the group stage had a weird and dramatic finish. Injuries, fouls and even a little brawl in the 2nd half led us to 10 minutes of added time and goalkeeper Jennifer O'Byrne scored the only goal of the game on a desesperate goal kick that went in the opposite net at the 90 +10 minute. Great Caledonia won 1-0.

With a 2nd place in group G, Great Caledonia played against Abristan in the round of 16. Elizabeth McQueen scored the first goal of the game but Abristan tied the game at the 81st minute. The Celts took the lead at the 85th minute on a goal by Kevin O'Maoilsheachlainn but Abristan tied the game again two minutes later. The score was still 2-2 after the extra time and we went to penalty kicks. Great Caledonia won the penalty kicks 3-0 thanks to an amazing performance by goalkeeper Jennifer O'Byrne and goals by Cristiano Fernando, Kevin O'Maoilsheachlainn and Melanie Kirk. The quarter finals was played against Rebuild the Wall, the most defensive team in the baptism of fire and probably the world cup. Anton scored on a penalty during the added time and the Celts won 1-0. The semi final was played against Rule Theriault's Nordernious and the Celts lost 2-0. Great caledonia, then, lost 3-2 in the 3rd place final against Drawkland. It's kinda disappointing to end the baptism of fire with 2 losses but the Celts can be proud of their run, finishing in fourth place in this Baptism of Fire is very respectable considering the level of play of this year's participating teams and some teams deserved a better ending.

Now that the Baptism of Fire 64 is over, the team is getting ready for the World Cup 77. Great Caledonia (now ranked 183) is in Group 6 with Brenecia (10), Turori (26), Anglatia (42), Eastfield Lodge (58), Tobiasia (94), Mattijana (98), Juvencus (220), Savorjarna (264) and Kaisaru (UR). It's a hard group for Great Caledonia. Teams ranked ahead of us are out of reach and Juvencus and Savorjarna both deserved a better ending at the Baptism of Fire and are better than what their rank is showing. Let's talk about each team one by one from best to worst.

Brenecia (10)

MD6: Brenecia (10) vs Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) @ Kingsgarden, Rozelle, Brenecia
MD15: Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) vs Brenecia (10) @ Inbox Stadium, Linlithgow (Gleann Iucha)

Brenecia are ranked 10th with a more than respectable record of 174 wins, 68 draws and 89 losses. The team plays a 4-3-3 offensive style and they are led on offense by Ursula Rankin who has 51 goals in 83 caps. She's the best goalscorer in Brenecia's history and she's still only 30 years old. Defensively, Bradden and Scrivenerare extremely physical and they're hard to beat. Mathis Woodgate is probably one of the best keepers in this World Cup with 24 clean sheets in 83 caps. I don't see how the Celts can beat the Patriots, the Patriots are unbeatable.

Turori (26)

MD2: Turori (26) vs Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183)
MD11: Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) vs Turori (26) @ Beverage Road, Twyford

It's unclear whether Turori is more of an offensive or defensive team and it's hard to predict who will play, as they are showing a list of players who are most likely to play. But we can be certain that midfielder Klaillal Tuirma will be selected on the starting XI. Tuirma is the descendent of their national team legend Cuolia Tuirma and, at 31 years old, we can guess that he's a legend himself. Turori is another team that we can't be and we have to expect two losses against them. Like Brenecia, they're unbeatable.

Anglatia (42)

MD8: Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) vs Anglatia (42) @ Fulham, Stamford Bridge
MD17: Anglatia (42) vs Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183)

Anglatia is highly offensive, maybe the most offensive team in group 6 despite their 5-4-1 formation. Little is known about their players other than their age and team, but we can assume their left and right backs plays some kind of an offensive role. Their wingers are very offensive and will support the striker, Nessa Chryst. The Explorers are also unbeatable and we can expect two losses against them either.

Eastfield Lodge (58)

MD7: Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) vs Eastfield Lodge (58) @ Christmas Road, Roxburgh (Rosbrog or Rosbroch)
MD16: Eastfield Lodge (58) vs Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) @ Parliament Stadium

Eastfield Lodge is a nation located in a small bubble universe with a portal in Northern Rushmore. They're another offensive team and they use a 4-1-2-3 formation. The best player on this team is by far The Doctor, which no one knows his age, who can do anything on the field. Tia Drenas is another player to watch and it's expected she will get the bulk of the goals. Eastfield Lodge are hard to beat and we'll probably lose twice against them.

Tobiasia (94)

MD9: Tobiasia (94) vs Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) @ The Ark of Tobiasia, Tobiasia City, Tobiasia
MD18: Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) vs Tobiasia (94) @ Steendam Arena, Steendam

Tobiasia plays a 3-4-3 formation and have 42 international appearances so we can say this group is stacked with experienced teams. Their best players by net worth are goalkeeper Percy Matthews who has 24 caps, and Fraser Philips with a net worth of $25 million. He has 19 goals in 20 games. Tobiasia are hard to beat but they aren't unbeatable. We can expect 1 draw and 1 loss against them.

Mattijana (98)

MD3: Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) vs Mattijana (98) @ Steendam Arena, Steendam
MD12: Mattijana (98) vs Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183)

Finally a defensive team like us, Mattijana plays with a 4-4-2 formation. According to Mattijana, " Matej Ljubanik has a calm style of football with passing play encouraged and a punchy counter attacking system. Defensively, he likes to see meticulous organisation and clear defensive shape. " One of their top players must be central back Katija Burnisevič. She's a dedicated player and can be an answer to Crajasović's clumsiness. Caledonians strikers and attacking midfielders needs to exploit her lack of physical strenght. We can also expect 1 draw and 1 loss against them.

Juvencus (220)

MD1: Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) vs Juvencus (220) @ Inbox Stadium, Linlithgow (Gleann Iucha)
MD10: Juvencus (220) vs Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) @ Toro Arena, Juvencus

Juvencus was in the Baptism of Fire 64 and, after finishing 2nd in their group, they lost in the round of 16 against Mriin which is an abrupt end for them. They're a team that could have easily won two more rounds if they had the same luck as us. They use a 3-4-3 formation but are sightly defensive. It's hard to talk about one of their players in particular but we can say they're all good. It's hard to predict the outcome of our two games against Juvencus because we both have the same strenght. Let's predict 1 win and 1 loss.

Savojarna (264)

MD4: Savojarna (264) vs Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) @ Nationalstadion Carl Gustaf Bjurman, Sjoedrhavn, Savojarna
MD13: Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) vs Savojarna (264) @ Beverage Road, Twyford

Savojarna deserved a much better ending at the Baptism of Fire 64. They finished 4th in their group with 1 draw and 2 losses. It reminds me Pays den Haut who was in a group with Abanhfleft in their Baptism of Fire. Like Savojarna, Pays den Haut had a very bad Baptism of Fire and didn't pass the group stage, but managed to be ranked around 120th in two world cups before disappearing. So Savojarna is probably that kind of team who had a bad BoF but will do well and climb lots of ranks in the next 2 or 3 World Cups. Another defensive team, Savojarna is relying on its size, strenght and speed to score. They use a 4-4-1-1 formation. Their captain and striker Perttu Karjanen will be a player to watch and have a lot of scoring chances. Savojarna and us are both of the same strenght and we can expect 2 draws against them.

Kaisaru (UR)

MD5: Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183) vs Kaisaru (UR) @ Killyleagh Stadium (Staid Cill Ó Laocha), Killyleagh (Cill Ó Laoch)
MD14: Kaisaru (UR) vs Great Caledonia and North Hybernia (183)

Kaisaru are the most defensive team of this group but, because they're relatively new on the sporting scene, it's hard to tell anything about this team. Their captain My Ki-Ko, a striker, is surely a player to watch.

Enslave Rule Theriault's sales are skyrocketting

Remember the video game Enslave Rule Theriault created by 3EC? Since Rule Theriault's Nordernious beat Great Caledonia and North Hybernia, the sales of this old video game are skyrocketting in Great Caledonia. Before the Baptism of Fire, this old video game had 47 downloads in the last year on 3EC's website, but since Nordernious beat Great Caledonia in the semi finals, this video game have 26 827 downloads, including 26 808 from Great Caledonia, 17 from Prusy Krolewskie and 2 from Gregoryisgodistan. In this video game, you control Gregoryisgodistan's army against Free Republics army. The goal is to capture, enslave and eventually kill Rule Theriault.

OOC: This was meant to go in my first post but I posted it separately here to make sure the hosts see it. These parts should be included in my main recaps from now on.
TheInsiders.an
An inside view of sports in the Empire of Greater Anglatia

The Dossiers: Part One
Article by the Faceless Player

Dossier: Hakki Ojala
Certain people within the Anglatian Football Federation have pissed me off enough that I'm not just going to continue writing these articles, but I'm going to leak the federation's dossiers on all of us. Maybe if you see what they really think of us, you'll see why certain people within the team, myself included, don't like them and think that they're holding us back. Don't ask me how I got these files. I'm only going to say that I know someone who has access to them, who's sympathetic to my cause. Anyway, here's the first one I'm leaking, the one on Hakki Ojala.
PROFILE: HAKKI OJALA
BASIC INFORMATION
FULL NAME: Hakki Aatto Ojala
AGE: 19
SEX: M
PLACE OF BIRTH: Rastaka, Valeria
RESIDENCE: Azuris, Cosumar/Rastaka, Valeria
CLUB: REAL AZURIS
HEIGHT: 6'4
WEIGHT: 165 pounds
POSITION: Wide midfielder/winger
PHONE NUMBER: ████████████████
EMAIL ADDRESS: ████████████████

EVALUATION
Physical Evaluation: Hakki Ojala is a unique physical prospect who has rare speed and agility for someone of his size. His speed causes major matchup problems for defenders because larger defenders have trouble keeping up with him and shorter ones get bullied by his size and strength. Not only does he have elite athletic ability, but his ball skills are heavily refined through playing in one of the best academies in Valeria, a region that has always valued great skills on the ball. His combination of athleticism and agility is one of the reasons behind his quick rise, and most teams haven't developed a way to defend someone like him other than overcommitting with multiple defenders. (See more)

Technical Evaluation: As I said, Hakki's skills on the ball are nothing short of amazing for someone of his size. He can create space with defenders through kicking and chasing the ball forward, and he's also good at catching his opponents with their shoulders turned and driving towards the inside. If an opponent steps wrong, Hakki is an expert at cutting around them and taking up the space abandoned by them. He's also got a skill at playmaking, and when the defense overcompensates to face him, he can find an open teammate to punish them. (See more)

Psych Evaluation: For a player with incredible skill, Hakki doesn't suffer from a superstar complex that some other players do. He's responsible, apparently doesn't do drugs and doesn't drink often, he manages his money very well for someone of his age, and he accepts his role on the team and doesn't try to force his way into the starting lineup. This applies with his club and his national team. However, he can hang with the wrong crowd at times and his friends could ruin all of that for him. KEEP HIM AWAY FROM ALLIE VACEK AND DARREN HARBIN AT ALL COSTS. Ojala became friends with both players during the Sporting World Cup run that he was at the center of, but Allie Vacek is the worst influence on the team. Vacek drinks heavily, smokes marijuana often during national team duty, and sleeps around right before matches, in addition to treating some of her teammates poorly. She does almost everything wrong off of the pitch, and that could ruin Hakki's maturity if he develops a close friendship with her. Also, KEEP HIM AWAY FROM GROUPIES AND GOLD DIGGERS. As a young single superstar, Hakki is a major target for every groupie and gold digger in the Empire. A relationship with one of these women could do much more harm than good. DO NOT LET HIM KNOW THAT WE'RE TRYING TO KEEP HIM SINGLE, but wherever possible, take action to keep away these types of 'fans'. (See more)

The Hood smiled wryly as he watched the muted television set in the corner of the room. Boulos had just scored a third goal for the Fennecs, and the Asud were crowned Baptism of Fire champions. Boulos. Of course if was Boulos.

Then again, it was probably most likely to be Boulos, with the man he'd been fighting to replace in the line-up currently lying unconscious in the bed in front of The Hood. Abdul-Rahman Saab. He sighed and leaned into the wall a little further, slumping down a little. The medics had indicated they believed this to be nothing more than a deep recovery sleep after what they'd called a 'fit with mild psycho-active element'. The Hood wasn't sure what that meant, but it sounded like bullshit. Either way though, he was just glad that it meant Saab would make a full recovery in time for the qualification process. He didn't expect the Fennecs to qualify, naturally, but he was happy enough that this win at the Baptism would ensure that Sato, and by extension, The Hood, would remain in charge throughout the campaign.

That would give The Hood exactly what he needed. Time with Saab, and time in Amnarei-asud.

His wry smiles were redoubled when the announcement on screen came that the man in the bed in front of him had won goal of the tournament for his chip in the very first match against Turkmenbasyn. As if the man's importance to the side wasn't underlined enough already...

The pictures showed Sato welling up with emotion in the centre of the pitch as he realised the enormity of what he'd achieved, and The Hood felt happy for the guy. For all his grumbling, he felt like Sato had genuinely learned some things from The Hood during the tournament, and his performance in the dugout during the final had been masterful given the number of injuries the Fennecs picked up. And now? Now they were champions. It was nothing less than they deserved, and they'd certainly provided the world with a little warning of what the Fennecs could do to some of the big names, given a chance. For as ridiculous as the one hundred and fifty supporters celebrating in foreign countries sounded, The Hood was slightly looking forward to seeing the overwhelmingly outnumbered supporters make their visits to Ain Salah. It should at the very leas be entertaining.

The Hood thought back to the seabirds he'd seen flying over the stadium way back on the first matchday. He'd thought at the time they could be an omen. Turns out they were a good one.

He glanced back at Saab as the midfielder sighed and stirred in his sleep, bringing The Hood's mind back to the more pressing matter of what he was doing there. He looked down at the paper on which he'd scribbled down what Saab had rambled whilst wild-eyed the previous evening.

Annotations in red pen started to decipher certain bits of it with potential possibilities for what it meant. Some bits were obvious and he already had a clue to what they meant, but others? The ones and zeros? The computer talk? It sounded like a stream of computing and programming errors, but The Hood had a sneaking suspicion it might have been more than that.

To him it looked more like a prophecy. Or a set of instructions. But even after he'd deciphered it, would he know what to do with the information?

But, more importantly, The Hood knew one thing; he'd only get one chance at this.

He folded the piece of paper and tucked it away in his robes with the red pen, and watched warily as Zubin Abdulrashid lifted the trophy on the television screen. It would probably be the only time he'd see an Asud lift a piece of silverware. For better or for worse, by the time his connection to the Fennecs came to an end, everyone would know who he was beneath the hood. Or, at worse, who he had been.
Do you like sand? I hope you like sand. You might be in the wrong place if you didn't.
Baptism of Fire champions.

Welcome To The New World
By Rami Niblick in Squidopolis, Lanzo

A Krytenian side proudly parading silverware, a new breed of players donning the white and sky blue, and calamari that walks like a man. Welcome to the beautiful insanity of World Cup Qualifying.

With the glorious run of AOCAF LII now in the books, and with the likes of Alfie Xousa, Marco Angelo, and Alex Sampson disappearing off into the sunset, it's time for the young Dragons to prove their worth - and with an eighteen-match qualifying campaign, they'll get plenty of chance to do so.

Challenging games against the likes of Red Blackiland and Taeshan lie ahead, but before all of that is an intriguing opener against the nation of Lanzo. We'll understand if you haven't heard of them; it's an insular undersea dictatorship (shockingly, no tickets for the game have been made available to Krytenian fans). It's also, apparently, populated by squid.

Nope, us neither.

It's exactly the sort of banana skin - or maybe blast of ink - that the Dragons need to negotiate with three points in the bag. I'm sure they will - but maybe pack the hardtack biscuits, just in case. Onward!

Last Gasp - Part 3
Part 1 | Part 2

13th July 2018. 8PM.

Mr. Aberson was sat, curled up in the corner of a dark, damp room. He was shivering, the cold chilling him to the bone. He wasn't sure where he was. Last thing he knew was being in the boot of a car, a black mask over his face and his hands cuffed. He could barely make anything out in the darkness. A door? No windows. A table and two chairs? He could just make out the outline of them, even though they seemed to be almost within touching distance. He tried to move closer, but he couldn't; his hands were tied behind his back and locked to a metal bar that ran across the floor of the side of the room behind him.

Footsteps. Slowly coming his way. His breathing picked up rapidly, on the verge of panicking. He didn't want to die. He was scared of dying, despite being old, as he still felt like he had many years to live. If he were to die, he'd want to die in a more pleasant place than a dark room. The creaking of a door close by, but still no vision of what was making the noise. And then light. Mr. Aberson looked away from the light source above him down to his lap and tried to bury his face, the light too bright for his eyes to cope with.

'Good evening, Mr. Aberson.' a woman's voice said from not too far away. Mr. Aberson looked up and saw one of the people who had kidnapped him earlier from his home. 'My name is Jenny.' She walked over to Mr. Aberson and unlocked his tied hands from the metal bar, pulled him over to the chair, and locked his hands to the back of the chair with force. He was in pain, but tried not to yell, as it would have given her what she wanted: satisfaction.

'What do you want?', Mr. Aberson snarled, not willing to cooperate with the monster in front of him who had terrorised his kids and taken him hostage, for whatever reason. He looked at her like she was the devil, preying on the next soul to corrupt and turn away from the goodness of God. 'Because whatever it is, I'm not going to do it.' She glared at him, before slapping him around the face with her right hand, the full force of it leaving a red mark on his cheek. He tried to fight back but could not, remembering he was bound to the chair.

'I want you to do a job for us at the farmer's market next week.' she said, trying to maintain a sense of calm to her demeanour, focusing on the business at hand rather than her desire to punch the life out of the man sat in front of her, because of the vermin he supported.

'As I said,' Mr. Aberson spat out, every word laced with hatred. 'I will Not. Do. Anything. For. You.' Mr. Aberson trembled slightly as she grabbed a gun from her belt and held it to his head. The metal barrel pressing against his head felt ice cold, colder than death itself.

'I think you will.', Jenny cackled, looking at him mischievously. 'There are so many things I could do with you and my coworkers,' she smirked, looking at him with her pure reddish-brown eyes. 'But I have to follow the mission at hand.' Mr. Aberson held a look of bewilderment and fright, unsure of what she was on about and unsure whether he actually wanted to know or not. Jenny reached in her pocket, the barrel of the gun still on his forehead, the gun locked and loaded, ready to shoot if needed.

A photo landed on the table in front of him. He bent his head down to look at it. It was slightly pixellated, and not the most clear photo he had seen, but he could still easily make out who was on the photograph. His family.

'If you want to see them again, then you will cooperate.', Jenny laughed, her sly plan working out to her own benefit. A few tears ran down Mr. Aberson's face, his body trembling in fright. He looked at the picture for eternity, the love he felt for his family overwhelming any feeling of fear he had at that moment. Seeing their faces again, even after such a short time, felt like a dream come true to him.

Jenny cleared her throat, clearly expectant of an answer very shortly. Mr. Aberson looked at Jenny. She looked like she was a good person inside, despite the evil that had corrupted her appearance and actions. Or so he hoped. He slowly nodded. Yes, he would do it. He had to save his family, and this appeared to be the only way for them to stay alive and well, away from trouble.

A mighty creak interrupted the conversation aboard the airship. The massive dirigible was provided by the Brimstone Mining Corporation, the sponsor who's logo is prominently displayed on the national football team's uniform; the ship itself is a conversion of an old industrial vessel that would transport huge amounts of poor-quality coal to the poorer villages on Mriin's outskirts. Its storage facilities had been retrofitted to serve as spacious seating, easily fitting the team, all the support staff, and even some fans that had purchased ludicrously expensive VIP passes--albeit the pilot recommended they don't fill her up too much, just to be safe.

In a meeting room set up near the cockpit, the team's thinktank recovered from the jolt. Around the table were:
Don Mizzet, the enigmatic black dragon that ran the team--and the domestic team most of the players were pulled from. The Vidial Alchemists are a tight-knit group of magik practitioners from--unsurprisingly--Vidial, the home of Mriin's premier universities and scientific corporations. They actually existed before the foundation of the Mriin National League as the Alchemists' Guild's recreational team, and the formalization of Mriinian football brought them to national prominence, finishing atop the standings and earning a (ultimately disappointing) Champion's Cup berth. Mizzet himself is known for having his subtle tongue and sly wit, as well as an uncanny ability to inexplicably appear behind you despite being twice the height of an average Satyr (which are, themselves, about 1.2x taller than humans on average).

Zilia Hawsorn, captain and star goalkeeper of the Maal Angels. The Angels, along with their counterparts in the Maal Daemons, were the first organized football teams in Mriin; Zilia’s mother toured with the Angels for years barnstorming around the nation putting on a show lighting up local teams, and with the advent of the National League the passing of the torch put Zilia in charge. The defensive mastermind managed to keep the Angels together for a solid third place finish in the league behind the surprising Alchemists side, as well as AFC Hosignr—the team that got the best of the amateur draft held to staff the rest of the league. She’s still in the process of organizing the NT’s defense, as the Alchemists she’s been forced into working with tend to an aggressive playstyle, and she’s still a bit bitter about the opportunities they left for the Drawkian players that ended Mriin’s Baptism of Fire run.

Janna Kurung, captain of league runners-up AFC Hosignr. A teacher by trade, her experience keeping teenage miscreants in line—especially young satyrs, who are often experimenting in all sorts of magikal shenanigans—transferred naturally to the football field, where she called the shots that kept a rag-tag group of young professionals playing at a professional level. She lacks a bit on the physical side, generally staying off the ball and instead working to create space for the more capable players; but that doesn’t mean she can’t handle the ball if the other team ignores her. She and Zilia have been bonding over the weirdness they’re both experiencing trying to integrate with the Alchemists, but she feels more optimistic about it than Zilia.

Solara Vol, captain of the aforementioned Maal Daemons. The team underperformed severely in the first season to the chagrin of their many fans, but nobody would put that on Solara. She’s widely regarded as the best pure athlete in Mriin, having lead national track & field competitions all throughout her schooling years and starting with the Daemons when she was only 16 years old; seven years later, she’s the nation’s top scorer in international games, and shows no signs of slowing down. She got accustomed to the Alchemists much quicker than Zilia and Janna, as the Daemons run an even more aggressive version of the Alchemist’s 3-4-3 formation, which has led to some very impressive offensive displays like the 4-2 rout of Willinois in the Baptism of Fire.

And finally, Joren Kreuger—captain of the Alchemists’ and Mizzet’s right-hand man. He was the first football phenom as a teenager, playing some games with the Daemons when he could take time off from his university studies, but a tragic laboratory accent sidelined him for the peak of his youth. He returned with the advent of the amateur draft, having returned to a strong physical state if not the levels he had gained fame with, and gained a deep understanding of the strategy of football from years studying it on the sidelines. Mizzet recognized his strategic acumen immediately and brought him on to the Alchemists as a key role player—setting up shots for Solara, as well as taking corners and penalties where he can put an advanced understanding of players psychology as well as ball physics to do some ludicrous things.

Joren righted himself after slipping down the cheap folding chair. “Are we really sure this thing is fit for trips like this?”

Don, who didn’t seem phased at all, snorted. “It got us to Mercidini and back fine. A little turbulence won’t stop us.” He reached across the table and spun the Tomikasian roster list towards him. “We're technically outmatched on paper, but we can’t go in expecting the worst. The their squad is only modestly more senior than ours, so if we can contain their forwards long enough to put some doubt into their drives we have the tools to press in and put them on the back foot. Aggressive play is going to be key.”

“Aggressive? Are you still planning to put Harnan back in as a starter?” asked Zilia.

“Yes, that is the plan. Is there a problem with that?” Don returned with a slight glare.

“Yeah, there is. He has so much mass he couldn’t stop himself from bowling one of them over when ‘playing aggressively’. The man is an oaf, and I don’t think he made a single good play throughout the entire Baptism,” Zilia practically spat, “I don’t get why you keep giving him chances. Gerard struggled against that Elf the Drawks were fielding, but he kept up way better than Harnan ever could.”

Joren saw an opportunity and jumped in; “You know that’s not the last of elves we’ll be seeing, right?”

Zilia shot him a quizzical look. “Oh?”

“Aye,” Joren nodded, “the top seed in our group. Valanora. Football royalty, and been fielding essentially the same team for hundreds of years, the original Elvish Terror in the World Cup. Full team of those immortals. Lots of cups to their name.”

“That’s good to know, but I don’t see how that’s particularly relevant. If anything that just means Harnan is even more out of his depth.”

“Look,” sighed Don, “I know Harnan has potential in him. He has a spark not many others have deep inside him, and I’ve been working to try and bring that out for years. But… god, he’s just such an utter buffoon.”

“I knew it!” cried Zilia, “I knew you’d have to own up to it. You’re too smart to keep sabotaging your team like this, right? You just admitted his incompetence!”

“Yes, yes…” The great dragon covered his face with a clawed hand. “It’s hard for me to admit my mistakes, but this experiment has failed on a grand scale. Fine, Harnan is on the bench from now on out. But I don’t think Gerard or Qual are actually up to the task of keeping up to sort of players we’ll be facing on the top sides… so I’m thinking we put Mari in as a defender instead.”

“Oh.” Zilia wasn’t expecting her teammate to enter into this particular conversation. “Well… I’m not sure she’s ever actually played anything further back than midfield.”

“I can see where he’s coming from”, nodded Janna, “she’s probably the fastest player on the roster after Solara. Even if she’s not experienced defending the fact that she can keep up with these star players means she’ll at least be able to put some pressure on them.”

“Exactly,” said Don with a smile. “And Zilia, you’re an excellent captain; I’m sure one day you’ll make a fine manager. If anyone can get her up to speed in time for the game it’s you.”

“…alright. You up for running drills with us, Sol?”

“Hm?” Solara looked up from her book. “Oh, yeah, sure.” She jumped a bit as the door behind her suddenly opened, the pilot poking his head in.

“Landing in twenty minutes, everyone! Get back to the main seating area and buckle up.”

Seong Mi-Soo
Heiwa|Kirishima

The Heiwa was bustling with activity. While the city did not have the economic might or fashion hub of a Kairaku, Akihabara or Imgeum and it lack the lustful pleasures of a Hyuga, Akihabara and a Kairaku, Heiwa was the capital. Heiwa was the center of The Taisuist Republic and the seat of power. On top of that, it had a health economic sector, a decent fashion district and a foreigner friendly blue light district which helped keep the once feudal capital relevant. Now with WCQ qualifiers now arriving Heiwa like every other city was buzzing with fans hoping to see their Kitsunes qualify but also reach a group where they can finally leave the group stages. What made Heiwa stand out in particular with the current World Cup fever was that Heiwa was the sight of media day.

Mi-Soo paced around outside the press room at the Ostinae Magnum Centre. She did not sign up for this when she retired not too long ago to become the manager. She believed that Hikaru Kyosuke, the former manager was doing just fine even though they failed to qualify for WC 75. "It's those Anglatian Shibal sekis that's to blame for Kyosuke-san resigning" she thought bitterly before walking onto the stage with a serious expression. This team was once exciting as upsets after upsets led the Kitsunes quickly up the table. Now the spark was gone, the team Kyosuke built was struggling to accomplish anything outside qualifying and Kyosuke dream was dying. "No we can still save things....." she thought.

"Seong-san"
"Seong-san!"
"Seong-san"!!

Mi-Soo finally did a double take after the press called out to her multiple times snapping her out of her thoughts. "Huh?" was all she stammered as the press assembled all laughed.

"Your Answer?" A random reporter asked.

"Repeat the question." Mi-Soo responded.

"Seong Mi-Soo when you took over you led the Kitsunes to a deep Cup of Harmony run and qualified for World Cup 76 after two shocking upset wins against Quebec. Unfortunately, your squad failed to pick up a single point during the group stages. What will it take for your team to be able to qualify for this world cup and finally escape the group stages." the reporter asked.

Seong Mi-Soo already had answers to that question and it ate at her ever since their humiliating elimination the World Cup prior. "Discipline.......consistency........and a whole lot of luck. This year the top two teams automatically make the World Cup, the problem, however, will be the amount of teams in each group.....it's easy for anything to go wrong.......-sigh- we need to beat teams that are below us no question as losing those games will put us in a bad position. The discipline we need to focus and be resilient as we try and build aaaand keep form. Finally, it will take bloody luck to make it in a group that is not a group of death......No further questions. The players are the stars here while I........I have work." Mi-Soo then bowed and walked the room holding back tears and cursing under her breath. This year they were not only going to qualify but leave the group stages. They had to. The Miracle kids were entering their prime this season and she needed to move now so that one day they can be champions. Kyosuke dream and plan.......she couldn't and wouldn't let it fail.

Chapter I: Where Have We Gone

Jason tipped the glass as far up as it would go, while firmly jamming it onto his mouth, and the lukewarm beer slide into his throat, not even really feeling it as he had long since passed his usual three drinks, and he slammed the glass down on the bar top hard. His eyes were irritated, and his nose looked like he had a cold, and he was leaning on his forearms to keep him propped up on the slick wooden bar. His eyes drunkenly passed over the few other people in the bar, and then over the bar tender, who was already keeping an eye on the drunk Rigsby, and then upwards, towards the sound of blaring noise, and soon a familiar sight of footballers on a pitch filled his eyes, and then it transitioned to some in a press conference, and his eyes, and his insides, burned with sorrow as he barely made out the words.

"So how does it feel Jess, do win it all by so much? Take the League, the Player of the Year and the Golden Boot all in stride in a single season, this surely has to be such a key day for you."

The five and a half foot woman with her high ponytail was beaming from the insides of her dirty Evesham United kit, stained with the remnants of exertion from her just concluded match, and while she was a friend, Jason couldn't help but to despise her for the moment as she cheerily answered the reporters question "For sure Ed, definitely is the high point of my career so far, but you know, looking forward, we're going to be looking to take all this momentum and apply it to next season too and just keep on steaming through."

It was at this point that Jason remembered scowling and then the blackness that had been creeping on the edge of his eyes seeping in further till it consumed him fully.

The following morning, Thetford International Airport, Vaumort

The radiant rays of the high morning sun that was sitting proudly at the top of the clear sky, even the clouds had abandoned Jason this day, his eyes squinting through the lenses of his black sunglasses as he was walking through the lower level tunnel that would take him out to the tarmac where the team's jet was waiting; he nervously clenched and unclenched his hands into fists a few times before emerging out of the tunnel, a small throng of press had been held back by security, snapping photo's, eager to get a few shots of the players before they headed off to the World Cup, and Jason nearly speed walked onto the jet, which had a few players on it, but he ignored most of them and made a beeline straight for his seat, throwing himself down into the expensively furnished seat, and began to remove his sunglasses when he made a mental eye-roll as his partner, the woman he was ruefully angry at the other night in the pub, took a seat next time with her usually flashy demeanor. "Jason, great to see you!"

"Uhh, you sure you're feeling hot, you don't look to great bro"

Jason ignored it and coolly began eating a small snack bar he had stashed in his jacket pocket "Just had a little too much last night that's all."

Jessica nodded, her smile declining into a small smile "Hey man, Preston wasn't your fault this season you know that right? You were out for 6 weeks with your knee, and even then, like bro, you're the only one producing over there."

"I still can't but to feel like...like I'm falling behind. You came into the league and like just blasted on by while I kinda floundered."

Jessica shrugged "You're still one of the best forwards in the whole league. Any chat concerning the best 2 should be us, or they're demented. Just gotta keep training hard and excelling; who knows, maybe a transfer even?"

Jason chuckled "Pshft, all I know is I'm taking it out on more then a few nets here."

Valanora Times
Starting Again

Every two years for over a hundred years now the Marauders have set out to become the best team in the footballing community for that cycle, a task that is as tall and as ambitious as any that one can hope to achieve. However, that is the task that the Marauders and over a hundred other teams across the footballing world take on when they enter the World Cup Qualifiers, the task of emerging from the gauntlet of teams from near and far to be crowned as the best footballing team currently playing the game. Some of these teams even travel across space, time, and even realities thanks to various methods of recruitment and the status of reality within the realms that these teams come from and represent, yes The Holy Empire we are talking about you! Everything from our own elves to sentient produce and rocks, to people from different dimensions or realities, and even the odd deity or two have come to play the game and compete in the challenge that is the World Cup.

In near on fifty attempts now, the Marauders have emerged victorious five times, a modest number given the number of attempts that the squad has made in order to come up with trophies that they have accumulated. However as modest as that five seems when measured against the attempts of the Marauders, it is tied for the most in all of the history of the competition, and when added to the number of Finals and other top 4 finishes that our side has had in their time, the Marauders continue to stand as the most decorated and successful side to have ever played the game. While it is technically true that they share the record of most titles with the rivals from Calania in Starblaydia, the Anian outfit does not have the same sort of consistent success in the top tier of the competition to have gathered as many second and third place medals, nor are they among what the pundits would call among the favorites for the title right now nor being anywhere close. Their time in the sun has come and gone, as sad as a statement that is to make.

What continues to drive the side though, what drives them to continue to attempt this impossible task for which they are already the best at in the annuls in history and have somehow beaten in five attempts? While it is quite true that nearly all Vanorians strive for a certain level of perfection in their lives, perfection in sport is impossible to obtain and sustain even if you do. One merely has to look at the way that no side has ever put back to back perfect cycles together in the World Cup, going without a single drop of points in the Qualifiers and Finals for two tournaments in a row. While our Marauders have had two back to back undefeated cycles, that is as close as one has ever come, for perfection is fleeting and impossible to keep a gasp upon it. However, these players and those who lead them as the staff of the team continue to search after that perfection in ways that ought to come off as a form of insanity, but rather it is an inspiring tale of persistence.

Persistence and patience will be needed for the team and their supporters as they begin this impossible task for the forty-eighth time, as this time brings back the long lost long qualifiers of over fifteen matchdays, as their shall be eighteen this cycle. In the fifteen groups of ten format, the top two shall qualify for the World Cup Finals in Quebec and San Jose Guayabal, where thirty-two teams will fight for the right to be crowned champions. Our Marauders are once more a top ten ranked side and looking to capture an elusive sixth title that will break their formal tie with Starbalydia and establish them as the best squad ever with no rivals to speak. The group will not be easy, nor shall it start easy with the emerging side of Brigantii coming to Capri to match off against our side. If they are to seek out that elusive title, it is best to get off on the right foot and a victory over a very good side in front of the home crowd is certainly one way to spark that charge.

Ander Felucia injured before first game WC77 against Mar de la Plata.
After the last training session, Emiliano Marcese announced that the deadly striker duo of Felucia and Mongolfiera won't play because of a knee injury. We are not sure what the miglians get for line-up but Felucia can't play the first two games. Mongolfiera won't play because of suspected arguments with both Gordini and Samuel who will play.

horror group
What doesn't help too is the "horror group" Migli is placed in. With football powerhouses like Audioslavia, Osarius and Kirisakilocated in the same group. However, besides the 4 powerhouses and 2 nations similar to us, all nations are currently unranked, making this group a slaughterhouse for the inexperienced.

Mar de la Plata
One of the newcomers is Mar de la Plata, playing their first match in la Capitala in Emiri, one of the most feared stadiums in the Miglian archipelago. There is nothing known about the Rioplatense football team, what can be beneficial for them as the Miglians don't know what to expect. The match will take place at 9:30 live on LGSTV1

New Cycle, New Storylines: Top 3 Things To Watch in Qualifying

by Calandra Villalta
Courier Soccer Columnist

RAMUSOK -- The road to the World Cup starts anew tonight for 150 nations around the Multiverse. A clean slate for each and every one of them to write their own new story forward. The Cosumar National Team stands on the outset of its 27th such Qualifying journey, but as they prepare to take the first step forward tonight, it feels different than usual. It very much feels like a transitional World Cup for this team - a crossroads. One where each step's reverberations will be felt for years to come.

There are many stories being written, unfolding, converging as the Vanquishers prepare to welcome Gregory's Foot Slaves to Fire River Arena. Let's take a look at some of those delicious subplots playing out parallel to the march to our 12th World Cup that every Cosumar fan should keep an eye on.

1. PASSING THE STRIKE TORCH?
For the last few cycles, there has been a nervous undercurrent regarding Cosumar's future at Striker. The much-lauded Engström-Newman-Lilley-Worsaw-Lucassen strike generation, though deep, is firmly in its early 30s now but no inheritors were readily apparent rising up behind them. Until last year, that is. Ragnar Targaryen (23) broke out in Pasarga, Romikk Valgard (22) took his game to new heights at West Gundar and now both young strikers find themselves suiting up to play against the Foot Slaves tonight. If Targaryen and Valgard seize the moment, we might look back on World Cup 77 as the decisive "changing of the guard" moment for a new generation of Cosumarite strikers.

Judging by their performances in the San Jose Guayabal pre-qual friendly last month, they're ready for this. In Cosumar's 4-3 win, Targaryen got the start and scored in the first five minutes with a superb header, and Romikk Valgard came on and took advanage of a tired Guayabalense defence for a well-struck brace in the last five minutes. That's one way to mark your first international cap! It has the makings of a storybook scenario... As the sun sets on Anders Engström, the greatest Cosumarite striker of all time, a new sun rises on successors Valgard and Targaryen. Maybe. We'll have to watch and see how they do!

2. RAMSEY'S LAST CHAPTER?
Gethin Ramsey turns 76 years old in three months. He's one of the oldest human managers going, and if you've watched any Cosumar matches in the last four years, you know that he also has quite a propensity for hacking coughs. Understandably, rumors are swirling from multiple outlets that Ramsey plans to finally step away from the game after World Cup 77, his fifth with Cosumar. The iconic Nepharim is universally respected here. If this is indeed his final go-around, he'll leave the Fiefdom held in equal regard with legends like Farris Crowley regardless of what this WC77 journey holds. He saved this program when it was in the gutter after WC 72 and lifted it to new heights, leading us to our first Quarterfinals (three times!), our first WCC trophy and the knockout rounds in all four of his World Cups in charge. His Cosumar legacy is set. But the stage is also set for him to engrave his name even deeper into the stone of Cosumarite lore. How great of a story would it be for Gethin to ride off into the sunset after taking Cosumar to its first semifinals or, better yet, World Cup Finals?!??

While the suspicion that this Qualifying campaign will double as Ramsey's Farewell Tour lends special significance to every Cosumarite match, it also creates another saga to follow...... the question of his successor. Who can replace the great Gethin Ramsey? If a retirement announcement is indeed forthcoming from Ramsey's camp, the Fiefdom Soccer Federation (FSF) will soon be engaged in a full-fledged managerial search for the WC 78 cycle. Some names already being tossed around include the beloved Alexander Pearce (who just won his fifth title at Cornellians), Real Azuris wizard Lujendra Mescalin (who just won the Champions' Cup), current Ramsey assistant Kennedy Kopenhaver and in-demand Samaj boss Luis Varezzi. One has to wonder who Ramsey himself prefers, or if the FSF will invite additional applications from abroad. Or maybe all these rumors are complete rubbish and Ramsey intends to hold this position until he drops in a cloud of black smoke.

3. THE RISE OF THE DOMESTIC PLAYER?
One noticeable difference between this squad and some - err - all of Ramsey's past selections relates to the breakdown of leagues from which the players are drawn. For the first time in many years, more in the squad play their club ball here in the Harlighet Ligan than in any other league. Ramsey has picked seven domestic-based players for World Cup 77. None of his previous rosters have featured more than three or four. That seven is, this time, more players than we drew from the Nepharim Premiership (six), A-League (five) or ex-LigAnaia leagues, which have all typically formed the bulk of recent Cosumarite teams. "What does this mean?" many fans will ask. Does it mean our current crop of players just isn't good enough to play in those traditional top leagues? A sign of dipping quality in the side? Not at all. Rather, it's a sign that the Harlighet Ligan is becoming one of those top leagues.

There was a time when any Cosumarite with high NT ambition was obligated to go abroad. Even in this decade, Anders Engström never quite received the respect he deserved until going to Crisisbless. That time might soon be behind us. The Harlighet Ligan has gradually elevated its quality, grown its reputation, invested in its youth and strengthened its financial clout over the last three decades. It all seemed to finally culminate last year as names like Penumbra Amokachi joined up, Real Azuris won the Champions' Cup and Cosumar entered the UICA Top Ten. There is still a gap behind the truly elite leagues, but credit Gethin Ramsey for recognizing the Harlighet Ligan's strides in his player selection. It's not just Ramsey that has taken notice either. All of the KPB top ten nations have called up at least one Cosumar-based player for World Cup 77. A rising tide lifts all boats - a stronger domestic league leads to a stronger average domestic player, which leads to a stronger and deeper player pool for the Vanquishers. In theory, at least. It will be interesting to see how the increased Harlighet Ligan presence in the team plays out on the pitch throughout Qualifying. Players like Stig Söderquist, Jo De Marisco and the aforementioned Romikk Valgard have a chance to step up and become harbingers of a coming era. An era of a Cosumar team led by domestic stars. That's another legacy Gethin Ramsey could leave behind.

Obviously, all three of these World Cup 77 subplots are intertwined and could play out alongside each other in unforeseen ways as Qualifying progresses. So much of it, however, will be determined by how the Vanquishers perform in those 90-minute windows on the pitch. Wins. Losses. Points. They will need to finish in the top two of Group 11, a tough draw that includes teams near the top of the second and third pots in Gregoryisgodistan and Fluvique. There won't be any bedding-in period for the new team either. Cosumar play Gregoryisgodistan's fearsome Foot Slaves, their chief rivals for the group crown, tonight for Matchday 1.

The crowd gathering in Ramusok to protest the arrival of the Esportivan dictatorship's delegation is another storyline that has entered into the mix in the last 24 hours, but the main story on the pitch is expected to be a physical, defensive clash of wills. What the Foot Slaves lack in skill they make up for with their infamous stamina and ruthlessness, while defense has become an area of particular strength for Cosumar with Peter Svensson quite possibly being the finest center back in the Multiverse right now. Whether Cosumar can take a strong step forward with three points to start this pivotal World Cup likely depends on our ability to create that single moment of magic in the final third.

I can't wait to see how this story will play out.

From POV of the Minase family

Etsuo

Image

I would be happy to know that the first game is against a team way below us. Hey, it should be easy, right? Well, not really. I, for myself, never thought of this. Whenever Tomikosan come up against a new opponent, I don't expect for an easy win. I expect for a great challenger who would be willing to beat us. Hell, even Prince (Mr. Princip likes to call himself by that name) never assumes that an unranked team or a team below us cannot beat us.

If you want to know about me, here is an interesting fact that you will like: People say I am the crybaby in Tomikosan because of my arrogant personality and a strong overreaction when things go batsh*t crazy. Don't get me wrong! I am a cocky person sometimes and in situations I refuse to accept the loss and protest about how the other team cheated by bribing the referee. That doesn't mean I should throw a bloody tantrum like an 8 year old would, right? I am the type of guy who never make even a single mistake. I am the type of guy that looks into perfection. Yes, I said it. PER-FEC-TION! Yet, I have been putting all my efforts to defending until my last breath. There is no way I can give up that easily, unlike the haters who never even tried to face me in the match. Don't believe me? Try score a ten goals against me. Even if you did, I still never stop trying. Unless if sh*t goes wrong, in this case I will.

Yoshika

You know, me twin brother loves to complain, especially if it's nothing more than a day that isn't his. Even then, he never stops. I am quite the opposite, lad. Cuz' I'm no girl who objects easily (like how Etsuo never gives up easily). I simply pass off as a normal thing. It's not like a give a damn about it. Even big issues don't bother me. It's just the same topic all over and over again. That is until the media talked about football, mainly me career and me performance in the game. Now THAT'S what I give a damn. Football is my pride and take care of my profession carefully. Otherwise, I will be embaressed if I'm involved with a scandal.

You may know me as a footballer and twin sister to Etsuo. There is more to that, however. Anytime and anywhere, we are the main topic people seem to cover these days, whether it's about football, something that involves football or not at all. 'Oh, Yoshika and Etsuo are kissing each other during the game. Let's have a discussion for a minute or two,' or 'Hey, we are about to talk about how the Minase twins played so well,' Least that second one is a bit logical than the other one. What a bunch of sickos! Who even does that? That's pervert talk here.

My life is 90% interesting and cool. The other 10% depends on what view on how you look at me as a person.

Makoto

I like my twin children very much since they are born. I love them as a big family. Although we are now in our young adult selves, we still stick each other no matter what happens. Sometimes, it's best to be inseparable. Without them, all I have is my mum and my dad. Nothing else.

Should I retired them at same year as them, at least I have them alongside my blissful life. The question that most people think is: Should Yoshika and Etsuo continue their careers even if they play without me? Hmm..........maybe. Maybe I miss my old career as much as I am. Maybe they will learn something that what is in front of them is important than me.

There is nothing I can tell. At the moment I am currently in the bench. Mr. Princip told me I am not in the same form as my two twins, but I can still be in the national team during a qualifying campaign. Hopefully I get my chance to play alongside them.

Development of the Mercedinian Football Programme
@ Mercedinian Football Association HQ - Zoloroni Sports City, Mercedini

With Mercedini heading out to start their World Cup 77 Qualification campaign, many domestic commentators aswell as some commentators overseas have expressed their pleasure at the fast rise of Mercedinian football in what is a rather crowded and saturated market. Since debuting on the scene at the 62nd Baptism of Fire, Mercedini have shot up the rankings to an astronomical 57th position, which is rather promising for a team only competing in their third World Cup cycle. Despite not qualifying for the World Cup in their first two attempts, they have qualified for the Cup of Harmony twice and have reached the Round of 16 on both occasions, something which has contributed to their rapid rise. Many detractors have often stated that other teams that participated at the 62nd Baptism of Fire in Quebec and Cosumar have since risen even higher, with two qualifying for the World Cup in their first cycle with one of those also going on to win the prestigious Cup of Harmony in their second cycle, which some say has overshadowed the performances of Mercedini at other tournaments.

Despite these comments, Mercedini have taken some rather famous scalps during qualifying, including an historic win against the eventual champions Unified Sunrise Islands (did we tell you about that already?) as well as points from Brenecia, Lymantatia and taking all six points from then highly ranked Yttribia. The campaign for the 76th World Cup was much more predictable with Mercedini taking six points from all of their lower ranked opponents including a 7-2 thumping of 95X, which remains the highest goal tally for Mercedini in a single match. Mercedini did manage to win against Boring Paradise and take a point from Osarius, but there were no more fairy tales in this cycle as Mercedini were pipped to the post on the final day. After both of those matches, Mercedini were invited to both Cup of Harmonies which has no doubtedly helped them rise up the leaderboard faster than some others. At both tournaments, Mercedini recorded four points in their group, where they qualified for the Round of 16 and were promptly booted out of the competition by much better and more competent sides. Which brings us to today, with Mercedini now a Pot 4 sides at this tournament with many saying that this is Mercedini's best chance to qualify to date, considering their opponents and the larger chance that one of their opponents could slip-up, leading many Mercedinians waiting with baited breath to see their team in action and to await their qualification results.

Many people have hypothesised about the reasons of Mercedini's early success at these tournaments, ranging from luck to planning to a mystical woman in the sky. The general consensus seems to be the way the Mercedinian FA has found and developed youth talent. Mercedini's involvement in the Di Bradini Cup and the usage of many young players on competitive matches has meant that the team can gel for a long time before some members are dropped or retire. The team consists of many young players and you could probably count the amount of players over 25 on one hand, but that hasn't stopped the exuberance from shining through onto the nations performances. The MFA have also played their hand very well when it comes to transfers and players moving overseas. In the most recent transfer window, many national team players moved abroad to play with top teams to get an insight in how more polished sides operate, in the hope that said insight will rub off on the national team. Daniel Dostalok have already made a large impact in Schottia, providing the team with many goals and helping the team into a top-5 finish, with a Young Player of the Month award to boot, and players such as Billic, Presic and Kraljic have already taken their places in Ceni and Electrum, there may be more to come but it's safe to say that the new surroundings for some has helped the team play better in familiar surroundings.

Goodness knows when this journey will ever end, but Mercedinian fans are becoming much more optimistic about the future. While it may take a couple more cycles until we qualify for our first World Cup, our frequent occurrence at other tournaments such as the Cup of Harmony and the Di Bradini Cup may be a sign of things to come for the Golden Eagles. World Cup Qualifiers will start tomorrow and in about 18 days time we will see whether Mercedini have squeezed their way to their first World Cup or whether it may be another outing at the Cup of Harmony or maybe we will just be sent home because we're just that bad... anything is possible. We will be giving you live coverage of Mercedini's first match as they travel to Kitsunia-Deese in hope of collecting their first three points on a long long journey towards the World Cup. From here at the MFA Headquarters, goodnight!

Match against Mar de la Plata postponed because of suspected illegal substances in the Rioplatenese airplane
After the Rioplatenese team landed yesterday evening around 7 o'clock, guard dogs found several blocks of cocaine in the landing wheels of the Rioplatenese aircraft which contained the football squad that would play their World Cup debut match against Migli. After tough DNA inspection, security officials could confirm that the cocaine was not put in the wheels by any of the players. The most likely group to do this is the internationally active al-Ghiran cartel which is the biggest drugs cartel in Migli and in ile de Minuet. The players were eventually allowed in and the match will be played tomorrow morning at precisely 9:30 on LGSTV or on the site.

the Miglian squad
Coach Emiliano Marcese said that he had changed the squad slightly by putting Mongolfiera in the squad with two attacking midfielders, changing the formation to 4-1-4-1 rather than a 4-4-2 formation with Samuel and Gordini, this match will also be the international debut of Dulio Fiorenti. He had a fantastic season with Deportivo Lavezzola and he could be leaving next summer because his contract expires. More about his performances in the mid-day paper or in the app.

Some Familiarity, Some Change For Lions in WC 77 Group

Hayden Landers, Nova Anglican Football Today

The Nova Anglicana Lions are coming back for their 11th World Cup, and one of the only ones in which they didn't make it either to the World Cup finals, the playoffs to the finals, or the Cup of Harmony. A heartbreaking end saw the Lions lose out on H2H goal differential and finish with 25 points. They dropped to 41st in the world, which is the lowest they have been in quite some time. Manager Antoine Searcy's job is on the line; if he can't deliver a satisfactory finish, then he will be quickly sacked. Fortunately for the Lions, all they need to do is finish second in their 10-team group and they will advance automatically. Easier said than done, though.

The roster is definitely changed from the last World Cup, as six new players have been added to the squad, as compared to previous years, which often saw one, two, or no players changed out. The six newcomers are all former U18 NT players and were previously coached by Searcy. Maybe Searcy's angling to remake the team in his own image; he'll have to win more games to really get that chance. The six new players are 23 year old Archbishop FC sensation Caleb Davis as the 3rd-string goalkeeper, Owen Carroll and Brandon Cummings, young up-and-comers for Portus and Sanctuary, respectively, Henry Santos, who's tearing up the NAFL with Newfield just a year out of university, Sean Chapman, Carroll's Portus teammate, and Gavin Branch, the striker who has been the beneficiary of Santos' great passing. Of those six, only Santos, the youngest, has cracked the starting lineup, where he'll replace the legendary Emmanuel Moga. Moga is still around on the bench, and he'll surely be teaching Santos everything he knows.

New starters include Sean Mason and Nick Gilbert, Newfield FC teammates, who will be playing left back and halfback respectively. Mason and Gilbert work well together in club play and Searcy's hoping that chemistry will carry over for a strong left side of the defense. Colin Dawson, son of Libertarian Party leader William Dawson and a good player in his own right, will play the defensive mid role held by Cesar Martinez and then Brendan Cook, though he certainly will range up a bit more in support of the still-excellent Alec Chapin. It's a mix of veterans, newbies, and former reserves stepping up for the Lions.

As for their group, it's an interesting mix of teams. The Pasarga Wanderers are the top seed, ranked 17th in the world and a perennial World Cup contender. They are just a few cycles removed from actually winning the World Cup. Though they are the lowest-ranked first seed, they are no team to sleep on. Super-Llamaland is the second seed, and a team the Lions have played in friendlies and in the Campionato Esportiva before. This is the first time our two teams are competing in World Cup play, I believe. Well, here's to a rivalry like the one our baseball teams have! They will be strong contenders for the top two spots. We're the third seed, and the fourth seed is a team we all know and love (or hate), Nassau-Hessen. The Hessians are a team that defeated the Lions in BoF 54 and on other occasions, but the Lions beat them twice (8-3 aggregate) in the most recent meeting in WC 72. Nevertheless, they will present a challenge. 74th-ranked Banija is the 5th seed and are a team the Lions have never played before. They finished 4-2-6 in the last qualifying stages, and are more well-known for their American football prowess, but the MD7 trip to Banija will be important for the Lions to avoid slipping up. The Isles of Avon come in at #6 in the group and #140 overall in the world, but are coming off a poor showing in WC 76. The Lions should defeat them, but these sorts of games against mid-ranked teams are usually anything but easy. After all, it was a MD1 away draw to Azrea that prevented the Lions from advancing to the playoffs last time around. 190th-ranked Augusticinia are the seventh seed in the group and don't figure to be much of a factor. Kaumann is #233, but seems to have veteran know-how that will serve them well here. #9 and #10 in the group are Royalsoldiers, whom the Lions have only played in baseball in one IBS, and Blouman Empire. This is a special thing; it's lost to the mists of time, but in Lions' very first Cup, they had Blouman Empire in their group, then ranked #20. It seems like I'm getting old, since I can remember that. The Eagles defeated the Lions 3-1 (scoring 3 goals in the last fifteen minutes) and 1-0 on their way to qualifying for the World Cup. Sure, they've fallen on hard times since then, but don't underestimate them at all.

As for predicted order of finish, I like this one (qualifying teams in bold):

1. Pasarga (they're just too good to finish second, the Lions and the Tigers are also too inconsistent)
2. Nova Anglicana (I'm betting Searcy will break through, though sometimes it feels like I'm just hoping that)
3. Super-Llamaland (They'll fall just short, MD3 and MD12 games will be crucial)
4. Nassau-Hessen (the Eagles will be the best of the rest, but not close to the top 3)
5. Banija (a team that will float in the middle of the table, not showing much spark)
6. Blouman Empire (they'll fight their way through to this spot; their pedigree is too good)
7. Isles of Avon (their rank will get them here, but little else)
8. Kaumann (passion and veteran ability will let them leapfrog Augusticinia)
9. Augusticinia (primed for a lackluster qualifying)
10. Royalsoldiers (I'd be surprised if they won more than one game)

And now for the schedule:
Match Day 1 - Pasarga vs Nova Anglicana
Match Day 2 - Nova Anglicana vs Isles of Avon
Match Day 3 - Super-Llamaland vs Nova Anglicana
Match Day 4 - Nova Anglicana vs Kaumann
Match Day 5 - Augusticinia vs Nova Anglicana
Match Day 6 - Nova Anglicana vs Nassau-Hessen
Match Day 7 - Banija vs Nova Anglicana
Match Day 8 - Nova Anglicana vs Blouman Empire

What a time to be alive.

That was the mindset of the Echani people. What a time to be alive. Finally, thank the Gods, finally the World Cup was back. A source of salvation for our people, the World Cup was an opportunity for the nation as a whole to come together in support of the higher than ever Eshan national football team.

Lead by the world class Marco van Ciavatinni, the 38th best team in the world will be looking to make a huge impact at this World Cup. In its 77th iteration, the World Cup is the premier sporting event in the multiverse but let's get real, you know that. The Echani team is aiming for qualification to the Finals at the absolute minimum; an ideal run by Alexio del Nieran's electric Eshan team would, of course, be winning the entire shebang but a Round of 16 appearance would be the more realistic outcome.

Of course, the nation is also currently experiencing Presidential elections, so it really is a great time to be alive. Eshan. What a nation. What a time. What a life. What a people.

What a time to be alive

We're Playing Schutzenphalia and West Ruhntuhnkuhnland and We can't Stand it.

So here is a list of teams of yesteryear we'd rather play instead.

An egg.

Squornshelous... maybe..

West Starblaydia.

Warnock's Wizards.

Spaam and West Spaam. Wait, they're back? Ok never mind on that one

Total n Utter Insanity.

That's it. Thats the limit. Beyond that it's too many letters.

Schutzenphalia and West Ruhntuhnkuhnland. Last time I had Alphabet Soup, I'm pretty sure thats the formation that was made in the bowl. Why do they have so many k's and h's in there anyway? You'd think the i's would be the best for profit margin.

How about a list of the names we're planning to call Schutzenphalia and West Ruhntuhnkuhnland instead of Schutzenphalia and West Ruhntuhnkuhnland.

Schutzpa and West Rutukuland

Schupa & West Runtunland

S.P & West Ruhnland

Schutzputs and West Rutuland

Putzes and Ru-Rus

Schitz & Ruhn

Ruhny Schitz

S.W.R

The Sawr

The Saw

The Lumberjacks

Scum & Rum

The opposition

Maybe we'll stick with the last one for now but we'll eventually work our way around the list.

Luckily for the Vilita Jungle Cats they get to avoid the opposition on Matchday 1 - typically a bit of a banana peel matchday for the Vilitan National Team.

Alright, out of context it sounded fine, but in context, not so much. Lets work around and try that again.

Luckily for the Vilita Jungle Cats they get to avoid Schutzpa and West Rutukuland on Matchday 1 - typically a bit of a banana peel matchday for the Vilitan National Team.

Sure, that works for now. So, instead of the Schutzputs and West Rutuland, it will actually be Collatis that Vilita will face on the opening day of competition in Group 12. While the putzes and Ru-Rus are bad - at least according to the press accounts, Collatis is super bad. Except, they aren't known to be bad necessarily, they just aren't known.

This is bad for Vilita. This is bad for a National Team that has a history of dropping points to bad or unknown teams to open up World Cup Qualifying.

If only they could have faced Savalen or West Angola. But no. They have to face the unknown entity - Collatis.

If the Jungle Cats win, they'll have done something that many Vilitan National Teams before them have failed to do - avoid the banana peel on the opening matchday. If they fail to win, it won't be long before the Atlantian Oceania Regional Press starts reporting stories of Vilitan fans spouting stupid things like "We need to lose the first one in order to win the rest of them" and "It was a sacrafice to margaret!"

Lets just see how it works out. Next time, maybe we'll get to the list of 95 reasons we hate 95X.

It's the peak of summer. The days are long and warm, with a sticky, slightly oppressive humidity that hangs in the air.

Today is another typical summer day. A light rain has just fallen, bringing with it welcome relief from the damp heat of the day. The last banks of raincloud begin to dissipate, parting to reveal a summer sky so vividly blue it's almost painful to look at. As I stroll along the tree-lined path, the first rays of brilliant sunlight break through the clouds and filter through the gaps in the trees overhead, dappling my path forward with patches of bright, almost incandescent light.

My footsteps gradually slow down until I'm at a complete standstill.

From where I am right now, I have the luxury of an unparalleled view of the ocean in front of me. The shimmering, boundless expanse of blue stretches all the way to the horizon, catching the eye as it reflects the sunbeams that strike its surface. I find a light smile curling itself around my lips as I gulp down, with carefree abandon, the sea air that carries with it just the faintest tang of saltiness.

With light, carefree steps, I tread on this world of mine; this world I've created, this world I've shaped.

For reasons that even I don't fully understand, I can never stay away from it for too long. There's an inexplicable attraction that always draws me back to it, no matter how far away I stray. And here I am again, retracing my steps along this well-worn path, and here I am again, losing myself in the breathtakingly beautiful scenes that lie before my eyes.

Smoothing down the simple one-piece summer dress that I'm wearing, I find a nice, shady spot beneath a hundred-year-old tree and settle down, content to let myself be carried along by the currents of time. Almost imperceptibly, the overpowering heat of the summer day begins to subside, welcoming in its wake a relaxing warmth that makes me want to curl up for a nap. The cry of a solitary seagull, the smell of damp earth, the sparkling expanse of ocean stretching beyond the horizon; they all combine in a most understated manner, bringing to life a serene, infinitely comforting scene that embraces me in my entirety.

Lulled by the gentle caress of the stiff sea breeze, I uncouple my consciousness and allow it to drift, slowly drift, away into the void. The seconds gradually blend into each other as time slows to a crawl, and I close my eyes, happy in the realisation that I'm surrounded by that which I love.
The artist known as Kyrin Knightsbridge; everybody's favourite blend of acidic, astringent sarcasm.
