National Info: The Unified Sunrise Islands are, in fact, the religious union of many countries whose names have Sunrise Islands. According to the Liro d'Arceus, a book where the religion of Arceusism is based after; the Sunrise Islands were formed by Arceus to guarantee peace and order. At one point, however, those rules ended up being forgotten by a good portion of the people, so Arceus sent Pokémon to carry its' word. After a brief while with both creatures coexisting, they all came to a term and the Sunrisians then became the people to carry the word of Arceus and follow its' principles.

At first, there was only one Sunrise Islands, known as the Northern Sunrise Islands. They are the most memorable name among the Sunrise Islands and also the one responsible for most of its' accolades. However, that doesn't exclude the other Sunrise Islands, all generated by other PokéDeities who, bored and inspired by Arceus, decided to take a try and create their own pieces of land on different realms. It wouldn't take long for almost all of the Sunrise Islands to end on a secondary realm, where, after the Kirigiri-no-Mikoto incident, all Sunrise Islands ended up joining the realm of the Northern Sunrise Islands. As a result of how out of hand the situation became, there is at least one Sunrise Island for each direction known to any being, even Up and Down; though reports say that they once considered having an All-Around, but that would sound "like a plan of a Spinda" and the closest to that are the Ferris Wheels still on existence at the Sunrise Islands.

Sunrisians mostly use English as their main language, seeing as most of the countries involved, for some rather helpful coincidence, all speak English with some other language but considering most of the Sunrisians have a thing for foreign culture, it's not rare to see that some weird group of people speak your language, even if it's way hidden and original and full of diacritics. In the end, the Sunrisians are a peaceful bunch, only getting to arms when really needed. They consider Pokémon Battling to be a thing, are starting to get used to cars yet have already developed a cure for a bunch of stuff. That's the Sunrise for you. And that's why most people love it.

Football Info: Expect the Sunrisians to dribble often throughout the game, but avoid shooting as much, Alcouin aside. Also, the team will avoid using the starters a lot during the qualifiers, rotating every game.

Cenian National Team - World Cup 77

Football History
Football in Ceni has only recently began to take off in popularity. Even though football has been present in Ceni for a good majority of the time that it has been settled, other sports, mainly tennis, badminton, and squash, held precedence in Cenian sporting life. For the most part, society gave football barely a passing glance as Ceni built its dominance in tennis. As the popularity of football grew in the last decade, however, pressure grew for the Cenian government to create a national team and send it to compete with the world's best. First, however, it would play in the 54th Baptism of Fire against other nations new to international football. In what was perhaps an ill omen for the rest of Ceni's international football campaigns, the Sarian, later to reach the final, crushed Ceni. In the group stage, Ceni barely managed one win before qualifying for the playoffs on goal difference, where they defeated Bonny in only their second win of the tournament, winning the opportunity to face eventual champion Buyan in the Round of 16. Although Ceni played valiantly, Buyan won, 1-0, in a not-surprising scoreline.

After its poor showing in the Baptism of Fire, Ceni embarked on its first World Cup qualification campaign. Not many people payed attention, and the team, led by Pablito Numede, managed to scrape up a few points before going home in ignominy. If one could say that Ceni's first qualification campaign was a three-year-old's small beach bucket, Ceni's second campaign barely made a drop in that bucket. The short description: nobody really cared. Sure, maybe some people were disappointed by the team's quite awful performance, but the general populace shrugged. In World Cup 69, Ceni finally started caring about its World Cup qualification prospects. Unsurprisingly, they weren't good. Although Ceni did manage to secure draws against Felix and Chiata, and a win against the then-twenty-ninth-ranked Super-Llamaland, it was not enough to make even a small dent in the large wall separating Ceni from World Cup qualification. In World Cup 70, Ceni had a real chance at qualifying. Despite falling 2-9 down to Audioslavia, Ceni notched a win against the second seed Neu Engollon to get a chance to defeat Electrum in a last-match day decider at home. Apparently the gods of fate were not smiling on the Cenian team, for the team fell by one goal, ending hopes of a playoff spot and World Cup qualification. Ceni's prospects had come so close, yet they were as far away as ever. At the Cup of Harmony, Ceni defeated Neu Engollon again, and shockingly defeated world number 9 and eventual champion Turori, ending a losing slide against the top 10. However, Ceni could not end its losing slide against Electrum, whom they faced in the Round of 16, losing for the third time in a row.

Ceni came back yet again for World Cup 71. It started disappointingly, with a loss to Zenic and a draw to the hitherto-unknown Octinstine courtesy of an Alliance for Cenian Future ploy. After that, Ceni won against second seed Barunia. On paper, the second half of qualification should have been good enough: four wins, one against top seed Blouman Empire, and three draws. Unfortunately, the draws were against Zenic at home and against the minnow Aynard, ranked in the three hundreds, and they sealed Ceni's doom. Soothsayers and gamblers who bet on Ceni's failure were the only ones celebrating. Without the disappointing draws to the bottom of the group, Ceni would have made the playoff spot; with five more points against Zenic, Ceni would have qualified outright. Alas, the gods of fate had conspired against Ceni once again, and Ceni would move to the Cup of Harmony at home. It performed decently. Despite draws to Kazamatsuri and Matthewsiana in the group stage, Ceni managed to advance to the Round of 16, where it defeated Darvale to reach the quarterfinals and Mizuyuki on penalties to reach the semifinals. It lost to Valanora, hardly surprising, and Saintland in the third place match, but Ceni finally had made somewhat of a mark in international football. It felt it was ready to qualify.

However, the dream did not come to fruition. In World Cup 72 qualification, the team lost to Barunia, a team it had beaten in World Cup 71, on the first match day and drew the 279th ranked Welcomzia. It then lost to the successor of Mizuyuki, Kirisaki, and drew with the 100th ranked side Vermark. Ceni's losses and disappointments kept coming, losing to minnows Emperor Pudu and Atrua. While the draws against Aynard and Octinstine were disturbing at best and heartbreaking at worst, Cenian supporters were crushed by their spell of bad luck during World Cup 72. A target for their fury was manager Osman Ibarra, who was sacked by the Cenian Football Federation, and replaced by Kirk Koromin, father of star Kel Koromin and manager of Tir Snake Strike, Ceni's best club. The switch seemed to have improved morale by a bit, as the team got revenge on Welcomzia, Vermark, and Atrua (all by the score of 3-2) and drew Kirisaki. However, it was not enough, as the pesky Emperor Pudu managed to defeat Ceni, and Ceni did not qualify, with a low take of 18 points. Surprisingly, however, Ceni improved one spot in the rankings, to forty-fourth. At this seemingly happy news, however, Cenian officials rued that they could have advanced into the top 40 with a better performance. It came to the Cup of Harmony facing an identity crisis and a crisis of leadership. However, its Cup of Harmony - a let's see our problems run for new coach Kirk Koromin - did not work out so well, with a loss to Barunia in the Group Stage as well as a heartbreaking penalty kick defeat to Chiata in the Round of 16. Ceni came to the World Cup cautiously optimistic and hoped that it would finally qualify on its seventh attempt.

Finally Ceni achieved their goal in World Cup 73 on their seventh attempt. Led by Jaime del Olmo and Kel Koromin, the team once again fell to the Opening Match Curse, suffering a defeat to Matthewsiania away, but rebounded after that, only losing once thereafter. Among notable games were the 6-6 draw with Free Republics and the 2-1 win away against HopNation. The World Cup also marked the debut of manager Kirk Koromin in World Cup qualifiers and the Cenial Halcyon National Stadium, at which the national team has never lost. The team was second in their group and drew Gregoryisgodistan, which they beat on a penalty shootout at home with a maxed-out crowd of cheering fans. Finally Ceni had made it to the World Cup, where they lost to regional rivals Eura and Cosumar before beating (guess who) Free Republics for their first ever World Cup win on their first try. Ceni directly qualified for World Cup 74, winning its group, including two wins over top seed Northern Sunrise Islands. They entered the World Cup hopeful, drawing with Apox before losing to hosts San Jose Guayabal. They were confident against Gregoryisgodistan, with a place in the round of 16 on the line. They knew they could win the match - yet they managed to lose somehow, one to nil, denying them a chance in the second round and disappointing many. In World Cup 75, the qualifiers went through in a breeze, with the team going 13-1-0 in their best qualifying run in their history. In the World Cup Finals, however, they could not break their streak of group stage finishes, drawing with Barunia 0-0 and with Pasarga 2-2 but disappointingly drawing 0-0 with Ficiscia to deny them a spot in the knockout rounds yet again. In World Cup 76, the team was hoping to finally go deep in the World Cup, and they reached their first knockout round in the team's history, after defeating bogeyman Ficiscia 5-2 and World Cup veteran Osarius 3-2. In the octofinals, they defeated #2 seed Valladares 5-2 before proceeding to lose 4-1 to San Jose Guayabal in the quarterfinals. Although it was a disappointing finish, at least the team managed their best World Cup performance ever, and they will be hoping to capitalize on that performance in San Jose Guayabal and Quebec.

Home Stadium
Cenial Halcyon National Stadium, Cenial, capacity 85,000
Image

Newly built to host a tournament like the Baptism of Fire less than a year ago, the Cenial Halcyon National Stadium hosts most of the Cenian national team's home matches. With a capacity of 85,000, the stadium has an unique roof which is retractable in case of inclement weather, preserving the optimal climate for spectators inside the stadium. The stadium also has won plaudits from national team players who say the stadium is one of the best grass pitches they have played on. Cenial United also hosts its home matches in this stadium. The stadium is currently the biggest in all of Ceni at this point and is fairly close to both of the major airports in Ceni, easily accessible by subway to those areas as well as most other areas of Cenial. It was built by the renowned Sky High Architecture in a southern area of Ceni, near the sea.

When elected as the host of the Baptism of Fire, the Cenian FA decided to upgrade some of the facilities at the stadium, including the press box and VIP box, as well as installing WiFi access for all seats, following the example of the Alexander I National Stadium. Notably in the history of the Cenial Halcyon Stadium, Ceni has never lost at this stadium when it was first used during qualifying for World Cup 73, and the Cenian national team defeated Gregoryisgodistan on penalty kicks to qualify for its first ever World Cup. The Halcyon National Stadium counts itself as one of the greenest buildings in Ceni, making use of solar panels wherever possible, recycling water and heat through its system (so that water used to water the pitch can be used in the toilets, etc.), making use of recycled materials in constructions, and other eco-friendly measures to reduce its energy footprint.

Cenial is Ceni’s capital city; as such, the Cenian executive, legislative, and judicial branches are all located in Cenial. The President has his home and offices here; office buildings for executive departments are also located in Cenial. The capitol building of Ceni, the meeting place for the Cenian Assembly, was recently redesigned and sits at the head of a park stretching to the President’s home. Judicially, the highest court in Ceni, the Supreme Court, meets here, as well as one of Ceni’s eight appellate courts. In elections, Cenial’s citizens are very active, with more than 85% turnout in national elections and 75% turnout in local elections.

Cenial attracts people from all over the region and the world with its world-class universities—the University of Ceni and the University of Cenial its two most prominent. The University of Ceni is renowned for its instruction in architecture, business, the humanities and history, politics, and law, while the University of Cenial focuses its academic investments in the science section. In fact, the University of Cenial is a leading research university in the fields of biotechnology and engineering.

A large part of Cenial consists of parks and greenery. One of the largest parks in the nation, Lake Cenial Park, stretches along the coast of Lake Cenial and provides opportunities for hiking, biking, canoeing and kayaking, Frisbee golf, and just plain old fun with friends and family. In the spring, when the cherry blossoms are in bloom, Lake Cenial Park is a very pretty sight, and its beautiful fountains are available year-round for all to enjoy. Another major park in Cenial is the Capitol Mall, a park stretching from the Capitol to the President’s House, with its memorial reflecting pool. Other green attractions in Cenial include the Japanese garden, in that section of the city, with its beautiful ponds, pagoda, and rock garden section for peaceful meditation, and the National Botanical Garden, with specimens from all over the world and exhibits of most major climates in the region. Not only is Cenial renowned for its green spaces, it is also renowned for its green attitude. Cenial is among the world’s leading cities in the proliferation of green technology, with a large number of buildings with energy saving measures. Many homes have solar panels, and the government has invested money into increasing the amount of renewable energy in the city; around 35% of the city’s electricity comes from renewable sources.

Cenial has a tolerant attitude and welcomes people from all over the world. As a result, Cenial has an incredibly diverse population. People from all over the world—from Asia, Africa, the Social Liberal Union, and all other regions of the world—have chosen to make Cenial their home. Because Cenial is very welcoming to all people, including refugees, Cenial supports a large population from Ciqi and Coconutstan, two countries ravaged by war. Because of its ethnic diversity, Cenial also has religious and language diversity. Hundreds of languages are spoken in different parts of Cenial, although English is mainly used in day-to-day communication. Religiously, no single religion makes up a majority of the population of Cenial. Atheism is the major religion in Cenial, with around 30% of people, although Christianity (almost equally split between Catholics and Protestants) (25%) and Islam (15%) both make up significant fractions of the population. Cenial has one of the world’s largest and most significant Chinatowns, while Little Saigon and Little Lyndainium are also significant ethnic enclaves. Ethnically, Cenians, Avaerilonians, Eurans, Electrumites, and Spanish make up a total of 75% of Cenial’s population, and there is a large diversity in the remaining 25%.

Cenial, as the cultural center of Ceni, is Ceni’s hub for performing arts. Cenial has the largest number of theatres, concert halls, and exhibition centers in all of Ceni. Cenial’s Royal Shakespearian Theatre Company is well renowned for its performances of Shakespeare’s plays, as well as other plays of Victorian English authors. Because of its diversity, Cenial has a large variety of ethnic restaurants of all kinds—from Westerheimian and Avaerilonian to Persian and Vietnamese, which are found mostly in ethnic sections of the city. Homemade Chinese noodles can be found in Chinatown, while Vietnamese culture is prevalent in Little Saigon. There are a number of excellent Avaerilonian restaurants in Little Lyndainium. Popular street foods in Cenial include Middle Eastern and Indian dishes. In the city centre, there are a large number of upscale restaurants catering to legislators, lobbyists, and richer tourists, while small cafes serving Cenian cuisine dot corner sides. Because of Ceni’s proximity to, and reliance on, the sea, Cenian cuisine places a large emphasis on fish and seafood. Popular Cenian dishes include Cenial Clam Chowder, widely regarded as one of the world’s best, various fish stews, and fish & chips. Other significant Cenian dishes contain crab, lobster, sea scallop, and cod. Alcoholic beverages are fairly common in Ceni, and there are a fair number of pubs, including some chain and local pubs. Cavalier Brewpubs and Machu Picchu Pubs, two famous chains, both originated out of Cenial. At night, a fair number of nightclubs serve alcoholic drinks and provide the citizen or tourist with the opportunity to party.

About Ceni
Ceni is a small island country of around 5500 km2 located in the eastern parts of the Rushmori region of Terranea. Although it has no land borders, the nearest countries are Electrum, from which it is separated in the west by a narrow strait, and the Isles of Avon, a small republic located to the east in the same island chain. With a population of just over 13 million, this makes Ceni one of the densest countries in Rushmore, at around 2360 people per sq km. Ceni is also one of the most urbanized countries in Rushmore, with the three major cities, Cenial, the capital, City Centre, and New Oxford, forming one large urban agglomeration, with the city petering out around the edges of the metropolis. Climate-wise, Ceni has a temperate oceanic climate, with the influence of the ocean helping to moderate both the summers and the winters - temperatures are almost never extreme either way, cold or hot.

Historically, Ceni was first settled by a group of people, ancestors of the Fererldan, who spoke a language, Ancient Cenian, that is almost extinct except for a few speakers (but it survives in many Cenian names, both surnames and given names), which is related to modern day Avaerilonian (the prevailing theory suggests that these people migrated from an area in New Gelderland, across a land bridge to Ceni, and then across to Avaerilon, where they settled later in time). The name Ceni itself comes from a corruption of an Ancient Cenian word for 'White Cliffs', which described the cliffs near the present day Dover. These people stayed in the area around Cenial for a while until a group of settlers from Eura arrived and settled in the southern half of Ceni, displacing some of these populations. A Spanish population from Valladares arrived and set up a colony in the north of Ceni, hoping to set up a port for the growing nation, but when the city of Junin was settled, these settlers were disappointed, nonetheless deciding to stay and send seafood to the Valladar communities as well as lobbying the government to set up a port in the north. These communities formed the backbone of a thriving Hispanic population in Ceni.

In the face of a rising Euran threat, these various colonies - the Fereldic population, the Spanish in the North, and Euran/Cenian mix in the South - decided to unify their solitary island in order to coordinate their defenses and reduce infighting. As the Euran threat died down, the Cenian government retooled its economy to provide services and goods to the growing Euran industrial economy while still remaining a bit on edge. As the economy bloomed, a group of Avaerilonian refugees settled in Ceni after escaping one of that country's long wars, establishing a Cenian tradition. These refugees contributed to Ceni's rising high-tech and service economy as the country moved into the 21st century.

Ceni's government is a parliamentary system with a one-chambered parliament, the Cenian Assembly, which has 235 representatives in it; the Prime Minister is the head of government, while a ceremonial President is the head of state. More locally, Ceni is divided into 14 districts, which serve to administer most of the government's services to the people and giving them local control, with a Chief Minister heading the government in each district; most districts have a District Council of either 7 or 9 councilpersons, headed by the Chief Minister. The Cenian people love their elections, with more than 80% turnout most times. Economically, Ceni has a large financial sector along with large pharmaceutical, high-tech, education, real estate sectors, and renewable energy sector. Ceni has a large GDP due to its proximity to Eura and the Euran economy and also a large GDP per capita, one of the largest in the region. Cenians enjoy a high standard of living as well as a large social welfare net and free education, courtesy of a Scandinavian-style liberal government.

The Court of Kirigiri-no-Mikoto is proud to present ...

Kirigiri's Bunch of Jolly Misfits Who Are Going to F*** You Right Up The A***

"Hmm? What d'you mean the NSWC isn't gonna accept that name? It's too offensive?! By all the stars of the three skies, they need to grow a proper sense of humour ..."

"Maybe they need a jar of those, erm, whatchumacallems, just to help them relax, y'know?"

"For the last time, Kisha, stop trying to use marijuana as an excuse to curry favour with the hosts! And get back to writing that bloody roster, or Mikoto will be sending us all down to hell in a fucking bento box!"

"Well I wouldn't mind seeing you go ..."

Kirigiri's Bunch of Jolly Misfits Who Are Going to F*** You Right Up The A***
Kirisaki's World Cup Roster for World Cup 77 (Now With Gods, Goddesses, Spirits, Demons, and a Dash of Insanity)

"Now that I think about it, they never did decide on the positions ..."

*muffled cursing*

"Oh for the love of Kirigiri, we're dealing with deities here! Transcendental beings! Surely they can find a way to play whichever position we put them in!"

Let it be known thusly that that we play a most fabulous, fashionable 4-3-3 (+1.5) with the following players -

GK - Mikami, the God of War (1)
"Who better to keep goal than a giant with hands the size of dinner plates?"

LB - Ameraku, the Goddess of Sexual Energy (3)
"Mainly stops opponents by charming them as they run past her. If that fails, deploys tentacles with extreme prejudice."

CB - Tsumugi, the Goddess of the Harvest (4)
"Loves to put in the odd agricultural challenge, she does."

CB - Seikahime, the Goddess of Cleansing and Purification (5)
"'Purifies' your heart and soul so that, erm, you follow her every command."

RB - Amatsuka, the Goddess of the Sun (15)
"Has a well documented crush on Ameraku. Also a closet pervert."

CM - Tsunahime, Goddess of the Sky (8)
"Has a penchant for flying into tackles. Inexplicably, the best passer out of the lot."

LCM - Satsuki, the Goddess of Rulers (7)
"No, not that kind of rulers, you smartass. Plays a mean slide-rule pass. Sucks balls at curling it though."

RCM - Erii, the Goddess of Music (17)
"Why is she here? No, seriously, why is she here? I thought she was on the freaking cheerleading team!"

CAM - Kurobaneko, the Goddess of the Underworld (9)
"Her favourite party trick is to spawn random undead creatures and have them chase opposing players around."

LW - Rinne, the Goddess of Peace and Harmony (20)
"Spends her free time hanging out with Erii and singing about peace. And how she'd like to put snakes under Mikami's bed."

ST - Mikoto, the Creator of Everything that Exists in this World (9) tm
"Because there's no way this spoiled child of a creator will accept playing second fiddle to anyone else in this lineup."

RW - Tsukihi, the Goddess of Fire and Mischief and generally Fucking With People (11)
"Her title fucking says it all, doesn't it?"

SUBS
"Psh, immortal, nigh omnipotent beings don't need subs!"

MANAGER - Shueigami, the God of Tacticians
"Actually knows fuck all about football. Railroaded into the job by Mikoto; currently learning on the fly."

Obviously the theme I'm going for this cycle may not be compatible with some continuities, therefore anyone who would like to mention or otherwise refer to the Kirisakian team are free to describe my players as conventional, flesh-and-blood human players if they so wish. I give my opponents permission to do absolutely anything they want to.

About Prusy Krolewskie

The Principality of Prusy Krolewskie (Royal Prussia) is an absolute monarchy ruled by Prince Zygmunt VIII. We got our independence in 1466 from Prussia. Prusy Krolewskie has a majority of Polish speaking inhabitants with German, Prussian, French, Lithuanian, Russian and Filipino minorities. English is also spoken as a 3rd language by ¼ of the population, mostly in our largest towns. The Prussian people is the original people of Prusy Krolewskie with Baltic origins who were invaded by the Teutonic Order. Today the original Prussian people is kinda extinct but no they aren't extinct because they continue to live in Prusy Krolewskie! And yes I said Filipino minorities because Prusy Krolewskie has claimed a small island in the pacific with Tagalog speaking people.

Prusy Krolewskie is a modern, advanced socialist nation. Football is the national sport, followed by hockey, rugby union, american football and weightlifting. We have one international airport: Lotnisko Zygmunt VIII w Mszczonowie, located 2 km north of Mszczonow. Mszczonow is located in Wojewodztwo Warminskie kinda midway between Ozorkow and the Puck-Malbork metropolitan area, along the Wisla (Vistula) river. We also have a regional airport, Port Lotniczy Miedzyzdroje-Gorczyn, located 10 km south of Miedzyzdroje, the capital city of Wojewodztwo Miedzyzdrojskie. This airport serves the Miedzyzdroje-Ueckermünde metropolitan area. Ueckermünde is located in Wojewodztwo Wschodniomeklemburgia on the other side of the Odra (Oder) river about 30 km away from the airport. Travel in Prusy Krolewskie is easy with a modern highway and freeway system. Trains connects the largest cities and nearby airports and you can rent modern cars, most of them are made in our german-speaking Wojewodztwa (Voivodships). Our famous car manufacturer Dolores-Wentz is a sponsor of the national team and will freely offer 2 charter buses to the visiting teams. Travel whitin the cities is also easy. Ozorkow, the Puck-Malbork metropolitan area and Miedzyzdroje all have a modern public transport system. You can also find an hotel downtown and/or close to the stadium.

History

Football is played in Prusy Krolewskie since the beginning of the 20th century. Prusy Krolewskie's first international games were in the baptism of fire 59, the Reprezentacja Pruski finished 2nd in group F and lost to Santaclausisgodistan in round of 16. Prusy Krolewskie also were in the World Cup 72 qualifications and finished fifth in group 5 with a 5-3-6 record. Prusy Krolewskie was then missing in action until we come back for the XI olympiads and the World Cup 76 where we finished 6th in group 6 with a 2-2-8 record. Prusy Krolewskie was invited at the Cup of Harmony and did very poorly. Finally, the Reprezentacja Pruski participated in the 1st Independents Cup, for nations outside of the big three regions, but had a bad tournamant either.

All time record: 10-5-22

First game: 3-0 win vs Kaboomlandia @ baptism of fire 59
First win: 3-0 win vs Kaboomlandia @ baptism of fire 59

Football History

Football has been played for over a century in Great Caledonia and North Hybernia but we haven't played internationally until recently. We made our debut in the Global Cup of Soccer I, a non-WCC sanctionned event.

Global Cup of Soccer I: We finished first in our group with 3 wins in 3 games and won in the round of 16 and quarter finals. The semi final was played against Drawkland and it was one of our greatest game ever. It was a 2-2 tie after the regular time and we went in extra time and no one scored. Penalty kicks were required and we won! We won 2-2 (2-2 AET) [3-1 PKs] then we played the final against Kitsunia-Deesse but we lost 2-1. We finished in 2nd place of the Global Cup of Soccer 1.

Baptism of Fire 64 (currently ongoing) : Great Caledonia and North Hybernia finished 2nd in group G with a 2-0-1 record, losing only to Hernton, a welsh speaking nation. Great Caledonia won 2-2 (2-2 AET) (3-0 pens.) against Abristan in the round of 16. It's the 2nd time in our history penalty kicks are required to pick a winner and for the 2nd time we win thanks to an amazing performance by our goalkeeper Jennifer O'Byrne who blocks everything. Then in the quarter finals we won 1-0 against Rebuild The Wall, the most defensive team in the Baptism of Fire. Great Caledonia is scheduled to play the semi final against Rule Theriault's Nordernious (talking about Rule Theriault, he seem to have more success with Nordernious than with his previous teams) while the other semi final will be played between Drawkland (the team we beat in the Global Cup of Soccer 1) and Amnarei-asud.

Great Caledonia and North Hybernia lost the semi final 2-0 against Nordernious. After scoring early, Nordernious played defensively and Great Caledonia couldn't manage to score a single goal. Then it was Drawkland's revenge against us, Drawkland won the third place final 3-2. Great Caledonia scored the first goal of the game but Drawkland scored two goals to take the lead. At the 46th minute, Cristiano Fernando tied the game, but Drawkland scored the winning goal at the 87th minute.

Mattijanan Roster and Information for World Cup 77

The Story So Far

After a shocking debut World Cup 75 qualifying campaign that saw Mattijana win just one match and fail to progress to the finals, Mattijanan football experienced a significant revamp with a turnover of both management and players. Matej Ljubanik, previously of FK Burges was appointed as the first full-time national coach following the disapointment with a variety of staff joining him from The top Mattijanan teams. The change in staff has naturally brought a change of style with the high-energy attacking style dropped and a more skillful, but conservative approach taken in posession, a punchy counter-attack and more shape defensively preferred.
The change has bought results with a better run in last year's Campionata Esportiva in the regime's infancy and much fewer goals conceded than ever before. There is still work to do however, as was shown in the qualifying stage of World Cup 76, in which Mattijana won more matches than ever before at a tournament, but once again missed out on a place at the finals.
They now sit 102nd in the World and look to improve upon that in upcoming tournaments. Once again, the ambition is to qualify for the World Cup Finals, but any form of improvement will be valued by Ljubanik's side.

Recent Results:

Islana Luniga 1-4 Mattijana (Campionato Esportiva)
Damukuni 2-0 Mattijana (Campionato Esportiva)
Tomikosan 1-1 Mattijana (Cup of Harmony)
Jerusalem 1-0 Mattijana (Cup of Harmony)
Schottia 4-0 Mattijana (Cup of Harmony)

Team Info

World Rank: 102
Style Modifier= -1
Team Colours: Green and yellow
Away kit: Navy and Black
National Association: MattijanaFusbalBand (MFB)

Head Coach: Matej Ljubanik
After a succesful, but not scintillating playing career, Ljubanik started his management career with mid-table division 2 side, Savaflug, who had recently lost Max Juremchuk to division 1 side Revinka. He lead the side to an unexpected 3rd in the table, just short of a promotion place, but acheived his goal of promotion the following year at which point there was speculation of him making a move to FK Petrovijanka or to Puljanka. Out of loyalty, he remained at Savaflug for a season, ensuring they retained their top flight status with a 14th/20th finish, before making the move to FK Petrovijanka.
After a slow start, Ljubanik began to make progress with his style of football and managed to lead his side to fifth in the championship with the promise of more progresss the following year. That duly arrived with an incredible start to the season giving way to a consistent run of points that ended with a comfortable championship victory.
Another decent run at the start of his third season with the club saw Petrovijanka sitting in second place in the championship behind FK Burges. At that point, the national side began to show interest and Ljubanik made the commitment that was wanted by everyone apart from the supporters of Petrovijanka.

Ljubanik has a calm style of football with passing play encouraged and a punchy counter attacking system. Defensively, he likes to see meticulous organisation and clear defensive shape, something that was somewhat lacking under the previous coaching team.

Assistant Manager: Dominik Samikov (FK Burges)

The assistant manager at Championship leaders FK Burges hails from the North-East of Mattijana and began his career at Dinamo Legisaw, another division 2 side before then moving as one of the tactical staff to FK Burges, where he has since worked his way up the pecking order to assistant manager. He has an excellant tactical mind as well as good player welfare skills and helps out Ljubanik in both management areas. He has so far proved himself to be a capable aid.

Head Scout: Marcel Kuzbacher

Marcel Kuzbacher is a seasoned scout, mainly plying his trade for the famed Puljanka Academy. He has links with numerous players in the Mattijanan squad as well as the under-21 side and makes up the 3-man selection panel alongside Samikov and Ljubanik.

Fitness Coordinator: Jelena Neumanič

Jelena Neumanič is responsible for the diet and fitness of the squad, freeing up the main management team to think about tactical matters. She has a solid repetoire of exercises and is well-known for getting on player's backs if they don't keep up with their expected effort levels.

Psychologist: Samira Kazmir

Samira Kazmir is an experienced sports psychologist who has done work for both the summer and winter Olympic teams, the Mattijanan ITT side and the MRT motor racing team. She is responsible for the mental welfare of players, stretching from the collective mindset to more personal issues for each individual in the squad and may have a tough task on her hands if this tournament turns out like the last.

The Medical Team:

Head Doctor: Dr Charlotte Smitič
Assistant Doctor: Dr Mattias Buranov
Physio: Martina Laramazič
Physio: Mika Glasnić

The Players:

GK-Matej Handanović-#1

The 27 year old Mattijanan number 1 plays under Matej Ljubanik at FK Petrovijanka and has been a solid, if unspectacular option between the sticks for most of his career. He has good handling skills and makes few mistakes, but could be replaced if he fails to make the spectacular stops expected of him.

LB-Helena Neumann-#2

The Burges Player is a regular in the championship leading side and will provide a good defensive option with the occasional run forward to help out the wingers. Barring any injuries or unlikely suspensions, she will play all of Mattijana's matches,

CB-Edvard Crajasović-#3

The towering centre back is a regular for a Revinka side currently sitting fifth in the division 1 tabke. His height gives him a significant advantage when defending ariel balls and presents a threat at ser-pieces. However, he can be clumsy when faced with skillful runners and does rely on a more quick-footed defensive partner in order to be successful.

CB-Katija Burnisevič-#4

Another Burges Player, Burnisevič is a potential answer to Crajasović's clumsiness and is a quick, skillful and sure-footed player capable of taking the fight to those attempting to run through. She is a dedicated player, happy to chase any lost cause until the ball crosses the line. Her lack of physical strength may be her weakness however and she could be a potential target for more powerful strikers.

RB-Dominik Illisević-#5

An up and coming full-back for Puljanka, Illisević is a punchy and pacey player with outstanding fitness and good crossing ability. His defensive technique is the biggest question mark, but if he can have a solid match at the back, he will undoubtably be a danger coming forward.

LM-Sophia Velezia-#6

A mazy winger with less raw pace, but the ability to turn any defender into a messy knot, Velezia is a constant challenge to keep quiet on her day and normally gets through at some point if she hits top form. Her mercurial nature is her biggest and arguably only weakness, but Mattijana will be well-placed if she can get it together.

CM-Marko Hojbjerg-#7

Another young midfielder at just 23, Hojbjerg is a playmaker with good awareness and passing ability and is the perfect fit for Ljubanik's technical brand of football. Useful for connecting the more attacking players ahead of him, he is also integral in providing the start or the killer pass in a counter-attack. When no forward options are available, he's not afraid to hit one and occasionally finds the back of the net from improbable ranges.

CM-Jago Adrianov-#8

Adrianov is the typical midfield enforcer with a hard tackle and a driving run on him which can terrorise both attackers and other midfielders. He's also not afraid to hit one from range with varying success. He is probably the most likely player to pick up cards however, so could be a potential liability.

RM-Jessika Struna-#9

A pacey winger who's preferred play is to make a run and then a cross, the 24 year old Struna is a dynamic and different part of the Mattijanan team. She normally plays for Revinka, but has been tipped for a move to Burges or Rapid Petrovijanka.

FW-Mathilde Lekarisa-#10

A fairly fresh face in the side, Rapid Petrovijanka's 25 year old forward is a lethal finisher with a left foot that makes up for a lack of power with high precision. She enjoys running onto through balls and cutting inside to curl shots into the far corners of the goal. She is expected to play well having scored 5 goals in her last 4 games for Rapid.

FW-Andreas Weiss-#11

The 27 year old Burges Striker has been a fixture in the Mattijanan team for a while now and has matched his performances for the national side with consistent scoring form for FK Burges. He is a poacher with the ability to be in the right place at the right time for any pull-back into the box. Also a good header of the ball, Weiss will be an intimidating target for high crosses if the Mattijanan plan-B is needed.

The Bench:

GK-Lucija Handanovic-#12-Age 24-FK Revinka
RB-Kevin Krychowiak-#13-Age 20-Matbirjke
CB-Marcel Hausmayer-#14-Age 30-FK Antalja
CM-Katarina Jakupovic-#15-Age 21-Sparta Snezn
RW-Sofiane Bisrali-#16-Age 20-FK Shalkar
CDM-Sezer Julianov-#17-Age 32-Rapid Petrovijanka
ST-Daniella Alaba-#18-Age 24-Puljanka

The Reserves:

GK-Martin Vaskaric-#19-Age 20-FK Antalja
LB-Lara Ljunavic-#20-Age 26-FK Revinka
CAM-Mattias Hoffman-#21-Age 23-Rapid Petrovijanka
FW-Katja Tauskas-#22-Age 22-Matbirjke

About Mattijana!

Mattijana is a huge safe nation with a significant, but proportionate population. It spans a fairly large range of climates with the far north a colder area, the central region temperate, the south Mediteranean and the South-East semi-desert. Petrovijanka, the setting for this competition, is located almost exactly in the centre of the country at 214-232 metres above sea level. It has summer highs of around 28°C and lows of -5°C in the winter. There is a high level of sunshine for most of the year with precipitation mostly snowfall in the winter months.

Culturally, Mattijana can also be divided into six regions. The West of the country is largely Germanic whilst the centre North is a mix of Slavic and Germanic cultures, centred around Mattijana's second city, Burges. The North and East are mainly Eastern European (closest to Polish irl) whilst the Centre (where Petrovijanka is situated) and the South are Slavic (similar to the Slovenian and Croatian cultures). There is an Arabic community in the South-East.
All Mattijanans speak the official language, Mattijanan. However, due to this not being spoken anywhere else in the World, English and German are well-spoken throughout the country whilst Arabic is taken on by the most intelligent students (in addition to English and German) as well as by those in the South-East.
There is no official religion in Mattijana due to this mix of cultures. Islam is popular in the South-East and parts of the South whilst some in the East follow the Mattijanan Orthodox church. Most people hold no religious belief, but believe in the universal philosophy of being kind, welcoming and helpful to others. Even in religious communities, it is these principals that are most talked of with religious figures used to preach them.
Due to the mix/match nature of Mattijanan cultures, religions are also a little mixed up. This is the reason that most muslim women do not wear headscarves.

Attitudes to drink and sex are fairly liberal whilst there is good gender, sexual and racial equality. Social mobility is also good and the rich earn only twice as much as the poorest.

The government follows mildly socialist policies meaning the tax rate is fairly high, but schools, hospitals and other public services are all well-funded and reasonably-priced. Taxes on large businesses are higher than on small ones. The government building is the MattiStaja, which is situated on Staja square in the centre of Petrovijanka. All six regions have their own smaller congresses however. Politicians are generally appreciated and although public decisions are limited to elections and important political decisions where the main population is the most affected, most citizens feel well represented due to the numerous meeting and discussion opportunities with their local politician.
All parties follow a similar philosophy, but mainly disagree on where to fund the most. The MattijanaLeušaBuro is the current elected party, but other popular parties are the ViroBuro (who generally promote the needs of the environment) and the NašinalBuro (who promote funding for employment opportunities). Despite this attitude, unemployment benefits are actually quite low in order to encourage people to be hard-working.

National Stadiums

Due to a large land mass and numerous good quality stadia, the Mattijanan FA prefers to rotate games around a few different grounds. Having said that, the Stadijo Nasinal and the Stadijo Dinamov play host to the bulk of the matches due to the central position of Burges and Petrovijanka, and their reputation for providing excellent hosting services.

Stadijo Dinamov
The Stadijo Dinamov in Petrovijanka is the second biggest football stadium in Mattijana and is one of the five stadiums that share the hosting honours for international matches. It is used on a weekly basis by FK Petrovijanka, Matej Ljubanik's old club, having built by them in 1940 and upgraded twice in 1972 and 2001. The capacity is 60,000.
The stadium is found on the East side of the PetroviOtok, near to the Stadijo Kolmetzov, one of Mattijana's international cricket grounds.

Stadijo Nasinal-Burges
Image

The Stadijo Nasinal is Mattijana's largest multi-purpose sports stadium with retractable grass and astroturf surfaces to cater for cater for Cricket, Hockey, Rugby and Football matches. There is a capacity of 90,000. The Stadium was built in 1985 and heavily upgraded just 2 years ago in preparation for the Cricket T20 World Cup. It is situated on the South bank of the Juliana river, just next to the water and just East of the NordesParke.

HUElavia also is very passionate with Football, having many stadiums for the teams throughout the country, as well as a massive and efficient transportation system to help people to get from Point A to Point B. Fans visiting this country will have a fantastic time, considering HUElavians are one of the most kindest and nice people in the world, as well as one of the countries that gives the most hospitality.

Choose my goalscorers Y, but try to keep them in the chosen 16
Godmod scoring events Y, but not too ridiculous
RP injuries to my players Y, but not to serious
Godmod injuries to my players Y, but please don't cripple them
Hand out yellow cards to my players Y, but not excessively
Hand out red cards to my players Y, but not too often
Godmod other events Y, make it funny. As you may have notice Kalumba has a wee bit of a hooligan problem so feel free to mention that

And the team:

Manager: Terence Ottbourne - Kalumban hero, was hugely influential in the Baptism of Fire 43 victory where his goalkeeping kept us in many a game and went so far as to win us others. His retirement left a hole which has still to be filled. He is still relatively new to the managerial position having worked as a first team coach with a few Kalumban sides and led the national side in the last qualifying campaign. After a decent showing led to Kalumba being ranked 107th in the world, only 25 places behind our all time best position, one would hope he will take the side to a new high over the next few years.

First Team Coach: Magnus Malan- Led the team throughout the last World Cup without much success but he did record a notable victory against highly rated Newmanistan, and suffered only narrow defeats to teams in the top 25 in the world. Very defensive minded and his approach led the team to be nicknamed 'The Tortoises'.

Goalkeepers:
Ulusu Mtanda-No.1 23 year old novice, looking to make his debut this time out. Part of the Kahali Spears team which is taking the Kalumban League by storm, and holds a new clean sheet record after going 14 games unbeaten this season.
Frank Burnden-No.67 42 year old veteran keeper, useful back up option. Will not expect to start but will most probably be on the bench to cover for the young keeper in case of injury.
Peter Franks-No.41 23 year old rookie, first selection for the team. Missed out on going to the Di Bradini cup by 2 months, so will be hoping to play a few games to secure his position as long term successor to Ottbourne and to unseat Mtanda. May play in less crucial group games or when Kalumba are knocked out. Still strugging to fulfill his early potential.

Defenders:
LB-Derek Ward, 29 year old truck driver, stupid but effective No. 12 Recently banned from driving for Drink-Driving, will be hoping to secure a place at a foreign club team to provide him with an income.
LCB-Vincent Mkure, 19 year old, member of the Kahali Spears No. 14 Built like the proverbial ox this young man has a long career ahead of him at the heart of Kalumba's defence. And such is his maturity he is already being spoken of as a future captain.
LCB-Duncan Edward, 28 year old, pretty boy, but solid at the back No. 4 A true rock and Kalumba's second most capped player since his debut in BoF 43 will be hoping to return Kalumba to the heights she once achieve.
RCB-Kaneu Daima, 22 year old, 6 foot 9, deadly in the air No. 6 Last minute inclusion ahead of the injured Von Harniggen, but his displays for Kahali this season warrant an inclusion anyway.
RCB-Norman Baker, 28 year old bank manager, great slide tackler No. 5 Castigated in the news for losing his bank a large amount of money speculating on the stock market, will try to rebuild his reputation.
RB-James Downs, 39 year old ex-rugpy prop forward, solid but no agility whatsoever No. 3 Recently dropped from his Rugby team so is looking to football for his wage.
RB-Frank Ruyten, 23 year old civil servant, very fast but poor crossing ability No. 19 Has worked on his crossing but still struggles to fulfill his promise as an attacking fullback.

Midfielders:
LM-Peter Kurtz, 25 year old full time proffesional footballer No. 21 Still struggling for form but has improved at the World Cup scoring twice and creating another couple for Kalumba.
LM-James Fish, 19 year old protege No. 9 Still a protege, retained for the first team instead of the U21s so Davies clearly intends to play him.
CM-Ollie Roberts, 27 year old model and dancing champion No. 18 First high profile homosexual in Kalumba. Has moved to Southern Cynocephali to play professionally and be open with his sexuality.
CM-Gabriel Danukwe, 20 year old Kahali Spears strong man No. 16 An old fashioned enforcer, Danukwe will have to watch his discipline.
CM -Laurence Kabila, 20 year old Kahali Spears creative midfielder No. 15 Picked up 23 assists this season and is seen as a major part of the future of Kalumban football.
CAM -Ben Cheeter, 23 built like an arab donkey but with the shot of an angry mule No. 27 Didn't impress at either the BoF or the last WC but still integral to the team as he links the midfield to the strikers.
CDM- Godwin Kuli, 19 year old sweeper for Kahali Spears No. 17 Despite the unfashionability of the position this young man has played it with aplomb and will hope to reproduce such form for the national side.
RM-Jameson Slutei, 23 year old and rapid No. 33 Lucky to get in the team, but an injury to Abouto left the position open and Slutei will look to make it his own.
RW-Jermaine Filks, 33 year old great crosser of the ball No. 11 Due to Abouto's excellence has yet to feature but has worked on his left sided play in hope of getting a starting position.

Strikers:
RS- Roland Grezlak, 28 year old, 6 foot strong as an ox No. 8 Came on to score many a crucial goal, will be looking for me involvment this time round.
RS- Anthony Peters, 23 year old, youngster but top scorer last season No. 99 Barely featured but did score our second goal in the BoF final. Will be looking to break into the team on a regular basis.
LS-Piet Von Kruger, 21 year old, second striker for Kahali spears No. 21 An excellent partner for Watusi, if they can recreate their club form they will be a feature for years to come in the Kalumban national team.
CF- Peterson Watusi, 17 year old, 20 goal hero for Kahali Spears No. 10 His goals have won him the place of veteran Kevin Davis, it is hoped the pressure won't overwhelm the young man.
CF- Craig Garden, 28 year old, reliable but not much skill No. 93 Another non-starter and like Malone will struggle to record a further cap to his collection of seven.

NEPHARA
Preferred Formation:
4-4-2
Style Modifier: 0
Home Stadium: The Farham Arena in Sabrefell. Capacity of 88,000, no attached club.
Kit Supplier: JMC
Nickname: The Cormorants

Champions of the region. Three of the past four World Cups they've been knocked out by those bloody Islanders. The other? They won. And in the Campionato, they got their revenge... though that's admittedly just against the Northerners. Beating the NSI is meat and potatoes for Nephara, just as beating Nephara is meat and potatoes for the USI.

In any case, they're caught somewhat between generations. The young side that won the World Cup are aging now, and some are gone entirely - Elaine Ashdown internationally retired for the second time after winning the Campionato Esportiva, while players like Vyntra, Vesper and Katskalidis are being slowly phased out of the firing line. But the production line is strong as ever, and with a side that looks more physically menacing and bruising than ever, they're entirely capable of bashing past everyone on their way to the World Cup.

Overall Record
302 wins - 60 draws - 85 losses
955 scored - 525 conceded

Honours
Champions of the 51st Baptism of Fire, the 6th, 8th, 10th, 15th and 18th Campionati Esportiva, the 61st Cup of Harmony, Eagle's Cup 5, Market Cup 6 and World Cup 75.

First Team and Tactics
Image
As always, the Cormorants play hard, physical and compact football on the defensive and quick, broad and ruthless on the attack, especially loving to absorb pressure and hit on the break. Set pieces are also something of a specialty, especially with Ashdown taking them. The fullbacks are expected to overlap with their wingers and provide much of the team's width, with Hawke (/Stavanger) the big target man and Amokachi (/Cautcher/Cantor) the quick-footed finisher beside them.

Staff
Manager - Reinhard Shale - Age 56
Assistant Manager - Michael Brandon - Age 43

Reinhard Shale is an experienced manager who's been there and done it all. Making his name by bringing Maximum Rovers into the Premiership and establishing them as a punchy underdog, he won the league with AFC Treason before managing Buyan to their finest performances. He was ultimately sacked after a dip in performances, but not to be dissuaded, he became the first manager to win the Premiership with two different clubs by bringing Crisisbless to the title. A popular presence with the press, Shale is a motivator without compare and an underrated tactician with an eye for telling substitutions. Michael Brandon might well be his successor - a legendary figure for the Cormorants and Directus as a holding midfielder, Nephara's first ever player to be widely regarded as world-class, he's taken his incisive knowledge of the sport and razor-sharp intellect into coaching.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Justinian Hargrave (Image Starling) - Age 32 - 37 caps, 12 clean sheets
12 - GK - Apostolos Tsattalios (Image Phalanx AF) - Age 24 - 19 caps, 8 clean sheets
20 - GK - Gideon Fletcher (Image AFC Treason) - Age 28 - 12 caps, 6 clean sheets

As anyone can tell from looking at the number of caps, Diandra Ballard's left a real power vaccuum behind. Right now, despite a lowly squad number, it's been Gideon Fletcher who has stepped into the gap, excelling in the second half of qualifying. He's a great shot-stopper and very solid all-around goalkeeper, and a commanding presence for his defence. Tsattalios is far more modern, a genuine sweeper with fantastic distribution, but his erratic shot-stopping punished the Cormorants once too often and he lost his place. Retaining the symbolic number 1 is Justinian Hargrave - a stalwart veteran between the posts, and a steadying presence in the dressing room.

Defenders
2 - RB - Gareth Westmead (Image AFC Treason) - Age 27 - 39 caps
3 - LB - Sieglinde Lohengrin (Image Crisisbless) - Age 23 - 29 caps, 1 goal
5 - CB - Calliope Katskalidis (Image AFC Treason) - Age 31 - 109 caps, 7 goals
6 - CB - Malachite Scharner (Image Jungle Strike) - Age 28 - 82 caps, 4 goals
13 - CB - Diedrich Frostmarris (Image Molsbik Arkjet) - Age 26 - 27 caps, 1 goal
19 - RB/LB - Scylla Vyntra (Image AFC Treason) - Age 29 - 90 caps, 4 goals
22 - CB - Dieter Konoval (Image KT Moreazerua) - Age 24 - 26 caps

Katskalidis and Scharner - the first Nepharim to play in Vilita - were the centre-halves that saw Nephara win a World Cup and they've only become stronger since, both individually and as a powerful partnership. That said, the high line kept by the Cormorants creates a need for speed, and the muscular, diehard Konoval fills that need alongside Scharner, with Katskalidis the veteran on the bench. Frostmarris is a strong contender in his own right, and even won caps for Apox shortly before the federation folded. The fullbacks are a study in contrasts - Lohengrin on the left is tall, elegant and clever, with sturdy, dirty and reckless Westmead on the right. Both attack first and ask questions later. Vyntra, though, is a legend in these parts, and will definitely get rotated in on both flanks.

Midfielders
4 - HM - Tanith Rainsford (Image Mâ Âlâmëómë, c) - Age 31 - 113 caps, 7 goals
7 - RM - Adnan Szalai (Image Ulsa) - Age 27 - 82 caps, 23 goals
8 - CM - Vedran Tarashaj (Image AFC Treason) - Age 24 - 14 caps, 3 goals
11 - LM - Raquel Naeher (Image Cartagena Desert Foxes) - Age 24 - 20 caps, 3 goals
13 - RM - Andrea Bereveskos (Image Sabrefell Athletic) - Age 23 - 7 caps, 2 goals
14 - CM - Konrad Gosforth (Image Brinemouth) - Age 25 - 26 caps, 6 goals
16 - LM - Franziska Toreador (Image AFC Hollybrent) - Age 27 - 8 caps, 1 goal
23 - HM - Helmut Chilmark (Image Duke of the North) - Age 24 - 25 caps

With Ashdown retired, Tanith Rainsford now captains the side on the left side of central midfield - she's a world-class holding midfielder, and now the central concern of her past work with Ashdown has been patched up. That's thanks to Vedran Tarashaj, the first Nephara international of Traveller stock, who plays entirely to type - a fearless terrier with endless stamina who plays on the edge and doesn't consider a game complete until he's booked. Helmut Chilmark proved a strong, muscular midfield deputy for Rainsford, and isn't averse to a hard challenge or professional foul. Konrad Gosforth, a player who in theory has it all - pace, muscle and technique - struggled to cover his defensive shift when starting in a central midfield duo, but is an extremely potent injection of incisiveness late in a match. Raquel Naeher, a punchy, stocky underdog of a winger, has battled her way into the side and looks ready to continue a long tradition of Nepharim midfielders in Osarius - backed up by another, in the orthodox surprise bolter Franzi Toreador, who impressed in qualifying while former favourite Vesper struggled for chemistry with non-Vyntra leftbacks. Adnan Szalai is officially the greatest player in the world, with searing runs down the right, a mazy unpredictability with his runs and a street-footballer's way of going through people either to cross, pass or score himself. Bereveskos, another unlikely young gun, may not be as good and isn't nearly as improvisational but she's incredibly fast, can land a cross on a penny and has an eye for goal.

Forwards
9 - ST - Estrella Hawke (Image Starling) - Age 21 - 15 caps, 10 goals
10 - ST - Claudia Cautcher (Image Starling) - Age 30 - 21 caps, 8 goals
15 - ST - Igrene Cantor (Image AFC Treason) - Age 29 - 29 caps, 12 goals
17 - ST - Dragan Stavanger (Image Creed United) - Age 23 - 21 caps, 6 goals
21 - ST - Penumbra Amokachi (Image Eastweald, vc) - Age 28 - 93 caps, 56 goals

Penumbra Amokachi is undroppable - one of the best strikers in the world, with a wonderful arrogance, genuine ruthlessness and a terrifying change of pace. She will be partnered, somewhat surprisingly, by Estrella Hawke - a young Starling striker who cut her teeth in Schottia after becoming the first teenager to be capped for Nephara, Hawke is 6' of pure muscle and surprising pace, and she too offers a ruthless edge - the sledgehammer to Amokachi's rapier, each individually more than capable of getting the job done and complementary in nature. The dynamic Dragan Stavanger has bolted into recent sides - a properly thunderous striker who smashes into people and creates havoc - but he's struggled to find the net for the national team. Cautcher at her best can match Amokachi, but she's older, slower and has had an injury-cruelled history, only recently staying fit the past couple of seasons. Mostly. Cantor has slipped somewhat in the pecking order, but she has a laser-guided hammer of a left boot.

LLAMANEAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL ROSTER - WORLD CUP 77

After a strong showing at the Cup of Harmony that resulted in a third-place finish, the highest Llamanean finish at any WCC football tournament, optimism ran rampant amongst Tigers fans. At the Campionato, however, despite an impressive group stage that saw the team draw the Northern Sunrise Islands, Super-Llamaland was drawn against regional juggernauts Nephara in the Round of Sixteen, with predictable results.

Jürgen Reichart hasn’t gotten the most out of this team so far, but there remains the feeling that things could change. The Tigers look more dangerous than ever and seem poised to return to the World Cup for the first time in three cycles. Is the comeback finally starting to happen?

The Llamaneans have adopted an interesting hybrid formation this cycle, which fans, noting Sophia Trevelyan's role in the setup, have dubbed the "4-2-4-1". The 4 and 2 are fairly straightforward. The back four is standard if somewhat more aggressive back line anchored by left-back Adrian Lindberg and Kurt Reichart while Emily Ynoa drifts forwards if needed and Georgia Rodrigues or Michael Sorenson bomb down the right wing. Ethan Candelario and Reid Adrian (or Vesely, or Santana) form a strong, no-nonsense midfield partnership that does whatever's asked of them. Free-kick wizard Eva Velasquez and her Cosumar-based partner Miro Vorobyov (or Jessica Chamberlain, a less aggressive option) play up on the wings, but can drop back (especially Velasquez and Chamberlain) to strengthen the midfield if necessary. Meanwhile, Sophia Trevelyan's athleticism and versatility has allowed Reichart to deploy her in a hybrid role. In the "4-2-3-1" setup, she serves as an attacking midfielder, driving the attack forwards but generally dropping back. In the "4-2-4" setup, her only role is to make dangerous runs into the boxes and generally cause mayhem. Ansel Penbrooke, the team's star striker, is where most of the goals come from, and he's thrived under this new setup.

In general, the Tigers love to attack and pressure their opponents - Felix Rasmussen made highlight reels during WC76 qualifiers by managing to block a goal-kick and nearly volley his own block into the net, and most of their goals are a result of prolonged attacks on the opponent's goal (with the exception of Penbrooke and the wingers, no-one on the team is a great finisher). The team doesn't prefer counter-attacks, but their setup is conducive for strong counter-punches. The weakness, of course, is their midfield - Candelario and Adrian are solid, but they're only two people, and Velasquez and Vorobyov tend not to want to hang around in the back. You need to have the ball to be attacking, and when the team is overwhelmed in midfield they tend to shut down - although Rasmussen has dropped back more to counteract that. The result, despite a decent defense, is a lot of goals when the team isn't playing well - see the 4-2 loss against Abanhfleft.

#29 - AM - Felix RASMUSSEN - 31 - Cenial United (CEN)

#01 - Lukas BERNHOLM - Kiiarana City (VIL) - 27
Bernholm, while not an acrobatic shot-stopper, is a solid keeper who rarely makes mistakes, is strong aerially (not just because of his imposing height), and is known for being a strong locker-room presence who leaves everything on the field. Strong with distribution and a consistently decent keeper.
#12 - Markus SHEFFIELD - Chenoworth Harriers (NPH) - 26
Known for being able to stop a disproportionate amount of penalties, Sheffield is very athletic. Still extremely aggressive, but rounded out a bit in Chromatika over two seasons with Depri Sanar before being forced out of the nation. He’s landed on his feet, however, and in the Nepharim leagues, where he’s thrived.
#23 - Caroline McGUIRE - Jaunepont Herault (USI) - 32
McGuire couldn’t live up to immense expectations with New Llama Gold, but ex-national team manager Vaz noticed that her problems were more mental than physical (McGuire suffered several anxiety attacks) and recommended she leave the club. Sure enough, a move to the Sunrise Islands did the trick, and she’s now expected to contribute. Athletic and capable of stopping most shots, but a mediocre communicator.
#34 - Nicholas LINDBERG - Los-Juantos Coastal - 29
Somewhat bland both in playstyle and personality - he’ll stop most things, is very consistent, and is great under pressure, but is a poor communicator on his good days and isn’t particularly athletic. Has flourished with Coastal, where the team’s lack of a defense makes his shot-stopping acumen a necessity.
#45 - Conor MATTHEWSON - Marque (BRE) - 37
The Tannersborough native plays a clean, mistake-free game with great (if declining with age) athleticism. His leadership is dubious, though, and he tends to be too quiet to be a clubhouse leader. Has bounced around a lot since nearly winning the Globe Cup with Lutine club Crossceaster, but settled in Wheathampton before heading to Brenecia to see out the remainder of his career.
#56 - Emily JOHANSSEN - Nandaozhou Sharks - 28
A key figure in getting Olympic East promoted, Johanssen has since moved to fellow SuperLleague bottom-feeders Nandaozhou. A spectacular shot-stopper, but prone to inconsistency and injury.
#67 - Asdrubal MARTÍN - AC Bartolome - 23
A boastful keeper who backs it up by making a habit of flashy, acrobatic saves when he’s in the zone, although he has no consistency or durability and isn’t even Bartolome’s first-choice keeper. A curious selection - many claim he’s only on the roster so the LFA can steal him from Miklandia’s national team.

#02 - LB - Adrian LINDBERG - Real Azuris (COS) - 31 [C]
Lindberg has matured into the team captain and one of its top players. His athleticism is remarkable, he's high in stamina, and he has a natural gift for positioning. Not only that, but he’s also polished himself well, and rarely makes mistakes. Someone that was named the nation's best college player consecutive years and who has grown into his potential, becoming the first Llamanean to win the Champion’s Cup last season with Real Azuris.
#03 - RCB/DM - Georgia RODRIGUES - Vardeaux Rapids (TOPS) - 20
A talented and versatile young defender with an intriguing backstory. The right-back was a huge success in her brief stay in Chromatika, becoming known for strong play and her stamina on both ends of the field. Now, her stamina and positioning mean she can play both as a marauding right-back, a sweeper, or a defensive-midfielder. One to watch for the future, even despite a puzzling move to newly-formed Transtopia.
#06 - CB - Emily YNOA - Brookport Otters (NPH) - 26
Very quick center-back who's willing to sacrifice her body to stop shots and make tackles. A smart player with strong positioning and a knack for anticipating passes. Also usable as a man-marker.
#13 - CB - Kurt REICHART - Francesca Orient (BRE) - 29
A six-three, hard-nosed center back who tends to rack up cards. After earning a reputation as New Llama's defensive anchor with his play and leadership, he made a move abroad to the A-League. Strong aerially, somewhat but not particularly athletic.
#20 - L/RB - Kris STRAUSBERG - FC London (RKQ) - 31
Kris Strausberg is an exceptionally unique player. For one thing, after a horrific bus crash suffered when he was sixteen, he no longer has a left arm. For another thing, he’s extremely fast, but tends to leverage this into making bold runs up either flank rather than actually keeping up with the opponent's’ attackers. Still, his strong on-ball play and passable marking make him a valuable asset.
#26 - L/RB - Michael SORENSON - Eastweald (COS) - 31
Many a player is to said to have “came out of nowhere”, like past NT members Jack Saucedo and Stefan Bogusevic. Sorenson, however, truly came out of nowhere - Brookport Athletic reports that at sixteen, Sorenson went to a tryout, excelled, and signed onto the team without any previous record of experience - in fact, Sorenson wasn’t even Eirelian. Still, he’s a frighteningly good player considering his lack of a background - fast enough to play up the wings and strong enough to play a very good defense. Has become a star abroad for Cosumar’s Eastweald.
#14 - CB - Ephraim WAGNER - Emerald City Harmony - 29
An athletic defender who would be favored to start if Reichart tried a lineup with three at the back. Smart, ambidextrous, and known for strong positioning. Had become a better playmaker as well in Los-Juantos before moving to two-time defending champions Harmony.
#25 - L/CB - Michael GUNNING - New Llama Stars - 28
A former top prospect who struggled to find his footing after the LFL shut down, Gunning seemed to find his home in second-tier Oslerholm Reds before heading back to New Llama and maturing into a surprisingly complete defender. Gunning is very athletic and not afraid to get physical, but has below-average positioning, is shaky on the attack (despite his height), and still feels unfinished despite his age.
#35 - R/CB - Emily REN - Olympic East - 27
A consistently underrated, domestically-based center-back, Ren has become known for her strong leadership and for being one of the quickest defenders in SuperLleague. Prone to being muscled about against coarser opposition, but a strong playmaker and defender against suitable opposition.
#47 - CB - Immanuel KANE - Phalanx AF (CEN) - 36
Despite lacking strong physical tools, the half-Eirelian is incredibly underrated, with great intuition and positioning. A solid man-marker who can lead any back line and is exceptionally polished, Kane should be able to find a spot in the defense - a capable left foot helps his case as well. A nightmare WC75 qualification campaign where he made heaps of mistakes banished him from the national team, but strong performances with Phalanx have made Reichart reconsider.
#49 - RB/CB - Jonathan VAN DIJK - BSC Vargas - 20
Van Dijk showed immense potential at the Di Bradini Cup, his speed and agility enabling him to bomb forwards and embarrass opposing players who try to stop him, and he’s solid defensively too. Has a chance to start, but is still a little unpolished.

#05 - DM - Ethan CANDELARIO - Goodfeather FC (NPH) - 29
A bruising, physical midfielder with decent but uninspiring passing touch isn’t the sort of player you’d expect to find on the Tigers. But previous editions of the team’s midfield seemed unable to provide anything in terms of defense (the Tigers’ best midfield pairing, Kyle Sturgeon and Jake Wiggins, were both playmakers who played defense sparingly, a model that recent teams have tried to emulate), and somebody like Candelario should be able to hold down the fort. Will be given a shot, especially after spending a considerable amount of time as one of Goodfeather’s best players.
#07 - LW/LM - Eva VELASQUEZ - Eastweald (COS) - 24
Velasquez is fast, agile, and possesses impeccable technique. However, while one would expect Velasquez, who trained in AC Bartolome's academy for three years, to adopt a flashier playstyle, she's instead far more direct and focused - although she can use tricks to get out of a pinch, she'll rarely use them if she doesn't have to. A decent distributor who developed a fantastic free-kick at Myana before making the move to Eastweald.
#08 - DM - Nemanja VESELY - Somer City and Surrounds (ETM) - 31
The six-six but agile Vesely was a basketball prospect until fourteen, when he picked up a second sport over frustration from not being picked for the highest-caliber youth basketball team in the nation. Quick-tempered and volatile, Vesely nevertheless has a ton of potential and the work ethic needed to reach it. Athletic and dangerous on set pieces, with strong passing skills, but someone who can be easily rattled.
#18 - CM/RM - Reid ADRIAN - Tir Snake Strike (CEN) - 30
Questionably Llamanean but undoubtedly talented, Adrian decided to join his grandfather’s home country in order to have a shot at the World Cup. Adrian has a very good passing touch and is athletic enough to keep pace with opposing attackers, although he doesn't offer much in terms of shooting or defense.
#11 - AM - Miroslav VOROBYOV - FC Samotath (COS) - 30
Vorobyov has excelled in Cosumar with Samotath, and his quick, incisive presence, intelligence with the ball, and ability to break defenses with his runs makes him best on the flanks or as a WC74 Felix Rasmussen-esque free-floating CAM. Not very strong, but exceptionally agile, and his thin frame hides a fierce long-distance shot.
#15 - DM/CAM - Harry KARJALAINEN - Carnival Samba (USI) - 24
Karjalainen is quick, relentlessly athletic, and not afraid to get physical, but is very unpolished and tends to rack up cards. Relatively unknown, a strong showing two Campionatos ago springboarded him into a spot with Carnival Samba and the shortlist, and he's kept himself in the discussion ever since.
#17 - DM - Jason SANTANA - Rosaria (ESH) - 25
Santana has had his share of issues off the field. However, he seems to have recovered from a brief bout with drug addiction and his best days are still ahead of him. A somewhat quick, technically adept midfielder whose calling card is his stamina and strong positioning. Could get a shot at a starting position if Vesely and Adrian disappoint.
#20 - CAM - Trevor FOURNIER - Emerald City Harmony - 22
For much of SuperLleague 1, with the team's starting strikers both out to injury, Fournier managed to take a leap nobody imagined would come so soon and bloom into a complete offensive player. The Harmony star, who is six-three and very quick, developed a powerful shot from distance and increased technique. Relied on muscling past shorter defenders at the club level, but will need to rely more on his decent-enough dribbling to make space this Cup.
#29 - CAM/ST - Felix RASMUSSEN - Cenial United (CEN) - 31
Recklessly incisive, Rasmussen is prone to playing out of position. However, he does have the potential to excel in a more free-floating role, as well as the technique and speed to keep up, making him a vital cog to this edition of the Tigers. However, he also possesses a new maturity after spending four years playing abroad in Ceni - while Rasmussen himself still prefers playing everywhere on the pitch, he can confine himself to a more confined position if necessary, and Vaz will appreciate the tactical flexibility Rasmussen brings to the table.
#40 - CM - Stefan RINALDI - New Llama Stars - 23
The teenage maestro who was a key factor in Kyrinson's success last season hasn't been particularly impressive at the international level so far - but he did show that, no matter how dubious his work-rate is, he has a unique ability to scan an opposing defense and make the perfect pass. Best deployed in a slower-paced match.
#50 - CAM - James CHEN - Norrion Rovers (EFL) - 33
The previously unheralded James Chen has continued his solid play for Norrion Rovers, flashing signs of potential by coupling devastating playmaking abilities with a very good shot. Still, although he’d like to give 100% every day, growing injury concerns are starting to become a concern, and he’s still inconsistent.
#52 - CM/CAM/RW - Elias MÖLLER - Dinamo Visand - 19
While Möller is half-Llamanean, nobody expected the young Dinamo star to play for anyone but the Arondic national team, making his call up a huge surprise. It could be important, too - the teenager has already shown flashes of brilliance both as a winger and an advanced playmaker, and he possesses both strength and speed in buckets. Still a little bit raw, especially with his finishing, but could be a star.

#9 - ST - Sophia TREVELYAN - Klyde (COS) - 26
Trevelyan made history in 2014 by becoming the first Eastham-born (she has dual citizenship) woman to play in Eastham’s top tier, IslandLeague One, and since then she’s made the starting spot her own. A strong playmaker from everywhere on the pitch, quick and agile enough to set up her own chances, decent enough at finishing to score off said chances, but also versatile enough to play as a False Nine.
#10 - ST - Ansel PENBROOKE - Eastal Lunar (VIL) - 28 [VC]
Considered the heir to Cartwright’s throne, Penbrooke has set milestone after milestone. Patistan offered him forty million dollars and he declined to head over to one of the best youth teams in the world. Penbrooke is very athletic, and maturation in Apox and Vilita has turned his good touch into a great one. Has become everything Tigers fans dreamed of, and will attract a lot of interest if the rumors that he’ll be on the move again next window hold true.
#21 - ST - Axel KORBORG - Whitehaven Triumph (CEN) - 21
Korborg proved a polarizing figure at Capitals despite scoring ten goals in twenty-one matches, and many were glad to see him leave for three million dollars to Ceni's Whitehaven, where he plans to spend the next few years honing his craft. While still a bit unpolished, he looked good in both the SuperLleague and in Ceni. Known for prolific finishing, especially backheels. Very athletic but quite selfish.
#28 - FW - Francis MANDELBROT - New Llama Stars - 30
Found by a New Llama scout lighting up the lower tiers of the Quebecois leagues, Francis Mandelbrot is poised to become one of the stars of the SuperLleague. Mandelbrot is fast and very flashy, often using a number of trick moves during matches. As a winger, he specializes in low, hard crosses - as a striker, he’s a clean and tidy finisher. Should surprise, especially considering that he's been the most prolific scorer in the entire SuperLleague.
#31 - FW - Immanuel PETRARCH - AFC Ruby - 28
Really broke out this season, finishing in the top five in goals scored. Can find a goal from anywhere in the box, and known for his array of tricks picked up from his time in street football before SuperLleague.
#36 - ST/RW - Carsten VINCENT - New Llama Stars - 21
Vincent is a top-notch winger who scored eleven goals in twenty league games in his first full season with Stars - the twenty-one-year-old has an excellent finishing touch and is known for his athleticism.
#39 - RW - Jessica CHAMBERLAIN - Arrowhead Point (NGD) - 27
Called by many a “right-footed Lily Stanton”, the young Chamberlain does have some similarities to the Grasshoppers Turic left-winger, who recently retired from international play. Chamberlain, like Stanton, is extremely fast and relies heavily on kicking it past the opposing defender, but she’s also a little bit more responsible on defense.

Nickname: the Patriots

There's more worry than you'd think at the heart of Brenecian football. The concern from the rank-and-file fans is simple: is this just a Golden Generation? So what comes after? You look at the core group of players and think on how many of them have been part of the unit for basically ever... and on the paucity of the talent coming through lately from an A-League that seems to have lost its way a little, outside of Northern Union's singlehanded honour-grabbing.

Still, at the end of this day, they do have a very strong core of 20 players and will expect to qualify at a canter, and then perform once they're there.

As usual, there is a quiet reliance on foreigners qualifying through parentage - Sparwasser was born and raised in Nephara, Uffington and Trevelyan in Apox. Combined with Buyanese migrants Skorupska, Szukala and Szubanski, this team has a fairly multicultural feeling about it.

Cullen's side plays lightning-quick, cavalier football, constantly attacking at pace. It's an exceptionally quick but not especially technical side, and maximising opportunities ensures that a few will land in the net.

Staff
Manager - Raven Cullen - Age 54
Asst. Manager - Fiona Sylver - Age 49

Okay, Cullen was a surprising appointment at first... but right now is looking like she might just be the best manager in Brenecian history. God only knows how it came to this. She's not done anything complicated - just gotten a side to play in the same style the side's played for ages while not imploding in the Brenecian tradition. Sylver has stayed on as assistant and looks to have a bright future in coaching, tipped by many to take over the job someday.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Mathis Woodgate (Image Creed United) - Age 28 - 83 caps, 24 clean sheets
12 - GK - Andreas Sparwasser (Image Crisisbless United) - Age 26 - 1 cap
20 - GK - Aidan Hartigan - (Image Rosbank Town) - Age 23 - 1 cap
30 - GK - Marcia Bannatyne - (Image Marque) - Age 26 - Uncapped

By this stage, Woodgate is the unquestioned first-choice goalkeeper - one of the team's best performers most days, always there to bail out a sometimes shaky defence. He's a legitimately world-class shot-stopper, and a very capable goalkeeper in all regards. The alternatives are far, far less inspiring. Sparwasser is ethnically and culturally Nepharim and plays in the second tier, while Hartigan's got a bright future but is prone to errors. Bannatyne's fine enough as well, but none of the three are remotely close to Woodgate. A-League goalkeepers tend to be on the experienced side, and it's causing concern.

Defenders
2 - RB - Czeslawa Szukala (Image Phalanx AF) - Age 25 - 44 caps, 2 goals
3 - LB - Ophelia Lovelock (Image Sabrefell Athletic) - Age 26 - 49 caps, 6 goals
5 - CB - Anaximander Scrivener (Image Brigham) - Age 30 - 70 caps, 4 goals
6 - CB/DM - Brandon Duguid (Image North Laithland) - Age 31 - 92 caps, 2 goals
18 - CB - Peter Uffington (Image Eastal Lunar) - Age 25 - 17 caps, 1 goal
19 - LB - Saoirse Hourihane (Image North Hall) - Age 25 - 13 caps
22 - R/CB - Rostyn Bradden (Image Lajuno) - Age 29 - 57 caps, 4 goals
25 - LB - Clementine Raven (Image Kingsgrove) - Age 25 - Uncapped
29 - CB - Niko Szubanski (Image Rozelle) - Age 25 - 3 caps, 0 goals
31 - RB - Tara Hassett (Image Northern Union) - Age 24 - 6 caps, 1 goal

Eura-based central defenders Bradden and Scrivener make for an extremely physical wall that's difficult to punch through. Uffington is a proven talent by now - if required he serves as auxiliary rightback. The measured Brandon Duguid is a classy operator who has been out of favour under Cullen but found a new lease of life as a more defensive holding midfield option, strangely one of the standouts at the World Cup. The team relies on dynamic attacking fullbacks Szukala and Lovelock for much of its attacking width - emerging talent Hourihane is not to be taken likely, either. Young(-ish) guns Raven, Szubanski and Hassett should be able to hold their own at international level, too, but are unlikely to make the plane.

Midfielders
4 - DM - Catherine Gryphon (Image Northern Union, c) - Age 28 - 74 caps
8 - CM - Aleksandra Skorupska (Image Trothwands Evolution) - Age 26 - 46 caps, 15 goals
11 - CM - Sander Balliol (Image Tanrisal) - Age 25 - 14 caps, 5 goals
14 - CM - Shanna Donachy (Image Rozelle United) - Age 26 - 4 caps
16 - CM - Elsie Drover (Image Rozelle) - Age 24 - 33 caps, 8 goals
21 - DM - Matt Ruffan (Image Kingsgrove) - Age 24 - 11 caps
27 - CM - Marian Ironside (Image Falkner United) - Age 26 - 1 cap
32 - DM - Randall Donachie (Image Pikemouth) - Age 23 - Uncapped
33 - CM - Mathew Evans (Image Kingsgrove) - Age 25 - Uncapped

A very attacking midfield presents itself for selection, with many strong options for the side. The first-choice trio is comprised of Skorupska - a quick harrier with a great passing range and terrorising shot - Gryphon - a technically skilled and calm influence in the centre, recently voted the best defensive midfielder in the Multiverse by an independent agency operating from Bonesea - and Alexsandr van Sorenson Balliol, who understandably goes by Sander. Drover is a genuinely thrilling talent who burst onto the scene a couple of seasons ago but has been surprisingly edged out by Balliol - that said, she's still an excellent player. Straightforward defensive midfielder Matt Ruffan forced his way onto the plane after some assured performances in qualifying, and performed capably when called upon. Ironside and Evans are more decent, technical squad players at a high-end A-League level, while young bulwark Donachie has no technical skill to speak of but is pretty good at bulldozing people.

Forwards
7 - RW - Squire Trevelyan (Image FC Jansberg) - Age 27 - 70 caps, 27 goals
9 - ST - Ursula Rankin (Image Tanrisal) - Age 30 - 83 caps, 51 goals
10 - LW - Roisin Carroll (Image CSKA Quebec) - Age 27 - 76 caps, 15 goals
13 - LW - Sienna Fallon (Image North Hall) - Age 27 - 16 caps, 4 goals
15 - RW/ST - Karena Foran (Image Hellinic-Rouge) - Age 27 - 30 caps, 12 goals
17 - ST - Fionn Lynch (Image SC Rinaldi) - Age 26 - 17 caps, 6 goals
23 - RW - Ronan Bowditch (Image Real Azuris) - Age 30 - 32 caps, 9 goals
24 - ST - Aelfwynn Bannion (Image North Hall) - Age 24 - 2 caps, 1 goals
26 - RW - Caitriona Hamilton (Image Rozelle) - Age 24 - Uncapped
28 - LW - Sophia Capricorn (Image Falkner United) - Age 27 - 1 cap

The best part of the squad with a fairly rich assortment to pick and choose from. A fairly well-entrenched set of starters in the physical, muscular Trevelyan - the most expensive Brenecian in history - the reliable, fiery Rankin and the technical, drifting Carroll can unlock most any defence. Fallon is a very orthodox option who puts a lot of effort into everything she does - similar story with Bowditch, who has been dominant in Cosumar and has worked his way up the pecking order. Karena Foran is an impact substitute par excellence, smashing down weary defences and with a dominant scoring rate in Brenecia and Pasarga. Fionn Lynch, however, is the current natural successor to Rankin - his time to shine has not yet come, but it will. For now, he's an entirely capable backup. Bannion and Hamilton are young, promising talents, quick and clever but not yet with a consistent end product - which is exactly what Capricorn brings to the table as well, except the Falkner winger's three years older and has basically plateaued.
Puppet of Nephara.

The prosperous capital of Mercedini is the stage for the Mercedinian campaign for World Cup Qualification. The Zoloroni Sports City Stadium was built in 2012 and has been the national team's home stadium since it was built. The stadium holds over 61,000 people with visiting allocation being just less than a quarter of that (14,500). Mercedinians and visiting spectators who don't have tickets can have a drink in one of the many bars and pubs or they can chill in the World Cup FanZone where they can watch the matches on the big screens along with other football enthusiasts. Mercedinians are generally very peaceful and welcoming to tourists and will only get violent if they are provoked. Cuisine-wise, Mercedinian food is based on Italian cuisine, with flavourful pasta and rice dishes along with stuffed flatbreads and pizzas perfect for carnivores and vegetarians alike, local cuisine will also be available for tourists who want a taste of home. Finally, prices for Mercedinian products and services are generally very cheap thanks to low operating costs, government subsidies and free-trade deals with many countries around the globe. The local currency is the Yvroni (¥) and the current exchange rate is 1 Yvroni for every 1.53 NationStates Dollars.

Those without a proper nickname

Veldgouwen

Eliminated from the Baptism of Fire 63 in the Quarterfinals on penalty kicks after five consecutive victories.
Made it to fourth in Group 3 of the Qualifiers, taking 17 points (5-2-5) before being slayed in the first knock-out round of the Cup of Harmony.
Reached, contrary to all expectations, the final of the inaugural Independents Cup before falling to Schottia.

Home games will be contested at The Ship, the stadium from Piershaven Club.

Head Coach

Johan Valkeniers

Of all the decisions of the VNVB (Veldgouwen FA), picking Johan Valkeniers as manager of this novice team certainly was one of the most contested ones. Such does not refer to his slate of honour as a player, which includes a longlist of trophies during the amateur days and playing a major part in the two titles of Westerzandse VV, where Valkeniers had a prolific Indian summer. Rather it is his complete lack of experience in the cockpit of a team which makes him more than a surprise choice. Once he hung up his boots, the 50-year old made himself an even more well-known face as a pundit for major television channels and newspapers, a role in which he seldom forgets to use the vinegar and dares to kick against many shins. With that in mind, it’s strange that the VNVB even considered someone with that amount of enemies. But, credit where credit is due, his tactical capacity is uncontested and his vocal guidance gives a good vibe to a still unaccustomed team.

Assistant Coach

Ronny Allaerts

Those guys that sit in the plush during games decided they needed to counterbalance the boisterous and outspoken Valkeniers and offered a half-time contract to a man who has earned quite some respect in the inner circle for his work with Piershaven Club, even if Allaerts is less known for the public. Those who do might rather recall him as a mediocre defender who plied his trade with perennial elevator clubs such as Zwarte Leeuwen Brust and Rapid Almskerk. However, his current reputation as a valuable assistant is built on his relentless number crunching. Whatever Ronny Allaerts lacks in national authority, he makes up in vision to turn free-kicks and corners into dangerous weapons, as he demonstrated in his time at Club who rein in title after title.

23 – Goalkeeper – 20 years old – Racing Vlierdrecht

Corné Van Luchene

With the retirement, a spot between the posts became available and Valkeniers opted for the future with the inclusion of Van Luchene. As he did before with Oberink, launching this promising goalie should give him options for the future when the need is there. Breaking into the first formation of the Zwarte Leeuwen Brust at seventeen, he quickly got snapped up by an ambitious Racing Vlierdrecht. No wonder as Van Luchene combines presence and a big mouth with amazing reflexes on his line. In the air, however, he still is slightly vulnerable and with 1m87, he’ll never be an ace in that department of the skills. Being in this selection will be, save for injuries, most that’s in it for him and it will be focusing on getting to learn from his senior teammates. Has a lot of fans due to being one of the first players on the squad who shows his presence on social media.

12 – Goalkeeper – 30 years old – Spierendam FC

Hubert Van Boxelaere

Every good goalkeeper is a bit crazy, it is said and there is no one who made such a personal badge of honour of eccentricity across the nation as Van Boxelaere, a tall and powerful goalie who loves making that spectacular dive when you can just catch the ball. Nonetheless, he is correctly considered to be one of the most reliable ones around due to this remarkable capacity to make the most impossible saves. Always outspoken and not afraid to put a manager in his place, he has been seen as a liability in previous clubs but his excellent relationship with gaffer Karsten Hoeksma makes him a cornerstone of Spierendam. Many worry whether he will not clash with Oberink, having to deal with a role as back-up, but he seems to have cooled down a little with the years, as evidenced by the lack of press conflicts last season. That’s a good enough thing, right? Valkeniers will have his hands full with him, but so does any opposing striker.

1 – Goalkeeper – 25 years old – Piershaven Club

Simon Oberink

Grief concerns were raised ahead of the Baptism of Fire for including a junior who could bank on little more than two years between the sticks for a relegation battler. Nonetheless, that dodgy move did certainly pay off. Valkeniers has confidence in the unmistakable talent from Oberink, who is quick to the ground and gives catlike reflexes a new ring. Also importantly, he has the right character to deal with a permanent role as second-string solution, having always been considered a bit too short to make it at Belden Sport before making the step back to Plek and breaking his supposed limits there. Last year, he took another step up by making a huge transfer to Piershaven Club and his performances in the Independents Cup raised his profile as number one goalie for the national team as well. With the confidence of both his manager and his defenders, we expect to see Oberink play every game.

2 – Right Defender – 29 years old – Racing Vlierdrecht

Derk Breydels

Valkeniers never made a secret of his ambition to play with attentive and active wingbacks and such a role fits Derk Breydels like a glove. The right attacker turned defender won’t hesitate to go back and forth near his side line a baker’s dozen times each half and this set of lungs earned him the nickname Roadrunner. Breydels’ natural guts is shown by the transfer he made at twenty, leaving his youth team Vlierdrecht Sport for cross-city rivals Racing but hasn't regretted so as Sport lingers in the second tier these days, whilst Racing has gone on to win two titles with Breydels as an essential element of the line-up. His crosses will hurt many opponents at this level and he allows the team to move up the pitch incredibly fast, but he needs a reliable man by his side to cover for the risks he takes. Breydels was one of those that most caught the eye during his previous appearances.

3 – Central Defender – 33 years old – Union Fiersem

Carlos Deferme

With just a single Liga Beker won, the trophy cupboard of Deferme does not represent the status he has built up across the last decade in Veldgouwen. Initially a journeyman with stints in Pellegem, Corinthians, Racing Grawarden and Plek, his transfer to Union allowed the club to transform from a straggler into a reliable side, being the sole to challenge Piershaven Club lately. Carlos Deferme is a no-nonsense old-school defender who will take no prisoners but is clever enough to avoid abundant yellow cards. His fine heading results in a goal or four yearly, certainly an extra weapon on corner kicks. Off the pitch, he is notorious for being completely devoid of any star attitude, which makes him a bit of a hero for any Fiersem fan. It also allows them to turn a blind eye on his mediocre passing and incapacity to open up the game with a proper cross. Age seems to have no impact on him and he’s a rock on which the team builds.

4 – Central Defender – 27 years old – Piershaven Club

Sven Wittouck

Making up for the lack of technical skills for Deferme and Mortelmans at the core of the team, we may assume that Sven Wittouck will continue to be a regular starter for this formation. Having made his way up the ladder originating from Third Divisionist Go Ahead Pachtem, he has joined Piershaven Club from Vitesse Ravenstad three seasons ago for over six million, still a record figure for a defender. But Club hasn’t regretted the move, three titles and cup final victory later, trophies in which Wittouck played his part with bravado. One can be assured of tight defending and the capacity to deal with Gegenpressure when putting him in the middle of your defence. He still lacks some presence and can be conned in the air, but for what goes a modern defender, Sven Wittouck is the full package with still room for further growth in his already fine skillset. Has become more vocal as well.

5 – Left Defender – 30 years old – Spierendam FC

Kieran Maes

The second selected player from the Canaries is considered a sure bet for a starter. After a stint with Belden Sport, he made the switch to Spierendam three seasons ago. An excellent choice, as the 3-4-3 employed by the always optimistic side from the historical capital from the nation might never lift them to the absolute summit of the table but fits someone with the skillset of Maes like a glove. There is speed but what catches the eye is his marvellous positioning and capacity to nip an attack in the bud cleanly without resorting himself to bringing in the chainsaw or kicking the leather over the stands. Reliable on and off the field, Kieran Maes has been chosen in the team of the year eight seasons on end now, a testimony to his consistency. Or maybe to our lack of other proper left backs. In international company, we have seen a few mediocre moments as well and he will not get better with age.

13 – Central Defender – 25 years old – Vitesse Ravenstad

Mike Mortelmans

Currently, Mortelmans still plies his trade for one of the poorest clubs in the top tier but the question remains how long that is going to last – Mike Mortelmans might be the hottest prospect on the market. As a youngster, his lack of discipline ensured that he never really broke through at Koninklijke Pellegem but since he left the Royals behind and moved to small-town Ravenstad, Mortelmans has blossomed. Get ready for a good ninety kilograms of raw power that tear up many an opponent and make him excellent when dealing with sturdier strikers. He is faster than you would presume but his technical limitations probably will put him on the bench for the national team. This man is still prone to picking up unnecessary cards but his off-field antics, for many teams a reason not to buy him, have calmed ever since marrying one of Veldgouwens most notorious models. Often called Iron Mike.

14 – Left Defender – 21 years old – Vitesse Ravenstad

Matthias Hermans

Making the cut for the IC was considered a relative surprise to the press but the lack of depth for left-backs made him pop up quicker than expected. Hermans offers a tactical alternative to Maes, being much less of a clever ballwinner and runner along the wing, but more of a no-nonsense person. His amazing long throw has been used as a weapon by his team and it is no secret that Valkeniers wouldn't mind resorting to that tactic when the situation asks for it. Off the pitch, this young face has gathered a bit of a reputation for his involvement in free fighting - officially only supporting crews of his friends and not in an active role. His long-term potential and a tad of maturity should allow him to evolve into a more decisive position. According to the expectations, we should see the debut of Hermans across this campaign but for a lot of commentators, he lacks the capacity to truly become an international starter.

19 – Right Defender – 23 years old – Piershaven Club

Lasse Vandertoren

This recent addition to the national team is the latest diamond from the crown of perennial powerhouse Piershaven Club. Having plied his trade at Corinthians Haven during his youth years, Vandertoren was picked up at 16 by Club and has broken into the team only a season and a bit later. In a side that is used to having the upper hand, he is excellent in balancing his defensive obligations with his attacking opportunities, not seldom finding an unmarked man in the box. However, he lacks the pure speed for a wing defender and can be caught by a very technical opponent, making him an option not to use every time at the national side. Vandertoren is one of the players Valkeniers hopes to prepare for the longer term, seeing in him a future stronghold of the national side. The maturity he displays at Piershaven should give all confidence on what is about to come for him and taking over from Breydels is only a matter of time.

15 – Defensive Midfielder – 31 years old – Piershaven Club

Wim Vreysen

One of the six Piershaven Club players in this selection, Wim Vreysen is respected as the silent architect behind the incredible success of the last years, having won nine domestic trophies across eight seasons. With passing rates usually in the top half of ninety procent, Vreysen is the metronome who ensures that people can pick out their moment to find a hole in the opposing backline. The lack of risk in his game might be the main criticism given but those who play with him on a daily basis know the value of this prototype of a professional, in the best sense of the word. A dream for coaches and referees, Vreysen will speak up seldom but when times get rough, he is not afraid to lead the way. For the national side, Vreysen had that same role but when the pace gets higher, he gets replaced. Will probably play against weaker opponents. Has gained some notoriety amongst the non-sports fans when he became the face of an anti-racism campaign.

8 – Box-to-box Midfielder – 24 years old – Racing Grawarden

Jim Decubber

Despite being a regular squad player at Piershaven Club at only seventeen, he left the stadium of the domestic powerhouse with revolving doors after a financial dispute. Many were surprised that he joined the modest Grawarden but that turned out to be the correct decision. Despite his age, he already has a team revolving around him which goes along in his dynamic, energy-absorbing style. Go hard or go home, something that gets confirmed by his clubbing records at night. Still, Racing knows that they have to hold on to their diamond as Decubber singlehandedly might make them champion one day. Always top marks when it comes to ground covered and passing, matched to a more than average tackle and vision, which makes him an interesting teammate: does more than his dirty work and can pop up to score on your pass, but a bit of a hothead when things don’t go his way. A driving force to this squad.

10 – Attacking Midfielder – 28 years old – Eendracht Rankelsven

Gert Stalhof

A special figure with a similar story attached to his name. At only sixteen, Gert Stalhof popped up in the first team of Spierendam FC. It did not take too much time for him to become a fan favourite with his short dribbles, long passes and unseen stamina for a player of his stature. Hiding in an enigma, his silence only pierced by a rare tantrum, made him even more of a figure for the ages. Before being 20, Stalhof had already won two titles with his team but it seemed as if the fame was too much to hold for him. He became less and less seen on the training pitch and started to go down along with his side. Aiming for new glory, he made a surprise transfer to Pellegem but a horror injury kept him off the field for two years. Restarted this season for Rankelsven and immediately his displays of raw talent made him resurface. For Valkeniers, it was enough to make him his number ten but Stalhof still seems fragile, both physically and mentally.

17 – Right Midfielder – 19 years old – Racing Grawarden

Yassin Tarki

After a series of disappointing performances in the national shirt, someone had to replace Boudewijn Snoeks as the quick, offensive right midfielder in the formation. Eventually, the choice fell amidst a lot of controversy on Yassin Tarki. All sorts of reasons were put against the decision of Valkeniers, who as usual couldn’t care less. That Tarki so far only played forty games at the highest level and scored fairly few times in those, did hold some weight. That Tarki himself doesn’t hold too much weight, is another one and that there are a few alternative candidates was voiced quite often as well. But much deeper were the traces of racism in many comments, as Tarki will be the first player representing Veldgouwen with a different ethnicity. Although only being the first of a generation of exciting talents, unfortunately many people haven’t accepted his presence in the selection, on the pitch or in the dressing room.

11 – Left Midfielder – 31 years old – Union Fiersem

Marnix Van Baekel

If Johan Valkeniers can rely on someone to always be there, for better and for worse, it is the short Van Baekel. The lanky player usually sticks to his wing except on free kicks and corners where he brings his magnificent cross in action from a different position. A left foot that can telepathically guide the ball anywhere in the box, Marnix learned his trade in the lower divisions for Sparta Leusden and VC Lovingem but since Fiersem gave him a chance, things have gone quick. Apart from regularly leading all assisting pass statistics, Van Baekel does not feel too good to neglect his defensive duties, a style which matches Union. A lightweight, he will be of little use when it comes to duelling but he perfected cutting off the space of opponents and stops several counters in their tracks so. Could be a little bit quicker and the dynamic with his back is crucial, but it clicks surprisingly well with Kieran Maes.

6 – Defensive Defender – 21 years old – Rapid Almskerk

Dan Troch

The youngest one ever to get selected and still the junior amongst the starters. His role in the title for the second tier of Rapid did catch the attention of anyone near Veldgouwer football. Already a starting player for Almskerk as soon as he passed the legal limit of sixteen, Dan is surprisingly strong physically and has the stamina of someone ten years older. Along with that goes a mature head, but his quick rise might even for him be difficult to grasp. Went down with Rapid two years ago but decided to stick with them despite several lucrative offers because then “I’ll have to show that I can guide a team that’s favourite every week”. Yep, that mature. Lived up to the expectation of being a future starter in the Cup of Harmony, being crucial in the round of 16 qualification. With that attitude, he has fought himself into the side and his dynamic with Decubber appears to be what spurred the unexpected final in the IC.

16 – Attacking Midfielder – 27 years old – Piershaven Club

Kris Liesmonts

The lack of depth with attacking midfielders in mind, Kris Liesmonts is not really considered to be the star of the champions, Piershaven Club, although it is a bit unfair to hold that against him. Often seeming a bit clumsy, Liesmonts has his image against him, something which isn’t helped by his capacity to be the only Club player to make a gaffe every once and a while. But once you look through that, you might see a hard-working attacking midfielder who will dive into space whenever half a metre opens up, who has a more than fine offensive pass and who scores his fair share of the goals. His tattoos with slogans in favour of far-going autonomy for the Oosthoek made him a controversial figure to call up and a dubious goal celebration created quite some commotion at the BoF. But Valkeniers stands by him and his prowess does get valued, more than by the press, by his fellow players.

20 – Attacking Midfielder – 26 years old – Westerzandse VV

Stef Looibeek

Being the number ten for the national team always has been a sore spot in the selection and the retirement of good old Guido Becu is no stranger to that problem. Stalhof is impressive but his performances look like the profile of a cycling mountain stage and Liesmonts can only play that role against specific opponents. It could be questioned whether Looibeek will be the one who manages to fill that gap in the tactical scheme of Valkeniers. It is not that Looibeek does not have his skills, after all he is the pivotal figure in the renaissance of Westerzandse, whom he lifted back from the second tier to the middle of the top division. But he’s a rather slow number ten, who needs a speedy guy in front of him and at the wings to anticipate his great passes. One can also wonder how much further growth potential still is there with him. Nonetheless, his loyalty and positive approach might have given him the edge to be the ace up the sleeve for Valkeniers.

7 – Right Midfielder – 25 years old – Racing Vlierdrecht

Roel Meganck

Valkeniers likes players who have the tactical capacity to appear at several positions and such is certainly the case with Meganck, a clever player who does not shy away from the physical work either. A chest like a home mover and a few scars make him feared amongst opponents but beneath that cover goes a gentle young man who loves jazz music and modern art – quite rare in a dressing room. Roel Meganck can be staged as a box-to-box player, less prone to make it into the box as Decubber, but with a better tackle and pass. That latter part makes him an option on the wing as well, making his way to an assisting pass not with the characteristic dribble, but with sheer power and positioning. Plays the game at full pace and that might lead to errors but he strengthens the team evidently. Many see him as the future captain of the national team due to his natural presence, but that’s still a few steps away.

9 – Striker – 28 years old – SS Skiveness (Bonesea)

Piet Masschelin

A pure targetman with a rocket in his right foot, Piet Masschelin brought home the bacon for Piershaven Club. Across the last six seasons, he accumulated a very respectable 138 goals in 225 games, a figure that has gotten him three Golden Boots and the utmost respect from the home crowd. Masschelin is not an uncontested figure, admitting himself that he turns on a switch when going on the pitch: horrible tackles, clashes with fans, fights with opponents and swearing to refs, he has been there. In daily life, he is a fine guy without that short temper who is as hard on his teammates as he is on himself – doing an extra series after training is regular for him. His ambitiousness is not always loved, but it did result in the man who’s at his age already cited to be one of the best strikers every produced in the nation. Can fight off a strong defence and will certainly get better by playing for SS Skiveness.

21 – Forward – 32 years old – Piershaven Club

Koert Schepers

Of those not wearing a jersey between one and eleven, Schepers is potentially closest to getting a spot at the kick-off some time or another. Rather on the short side himself, he is used to acting around a tall guy at Piershaven Club with Masschelin as big man. His stats are certainly fine: the last eight years he never went below a production of eleven goals per season. If you would have to categorize him, it would be easy to call him a pocket striker but he is more than raw speed and quick feet. His shot is seldom hard but always with a certain elegance and there is a guy with an eye for a teammate in times of need. As beloved and calm as he is on the field, it is hard to believe that he seemed lost for professional football at eighteen when struggling with drug addictions. Nonetheless, adding him as second striker seems to be the ace up the sleeve of Valkeniers when goals need to be made.

18 – Forward – 24 years old – Union Fiersem

Sjoerd Waegemakers

It was inevitable that one day, good old Jaco "He’s a poacher and that’s ok, he hardly works but he scores all day" Poortvliet would lose his spot on the squad and be replaced with someone who makes the same stats but based on a better combination of talent and industriousness. Coming into the ranks of Fiersem at 18, he's been a major part of the rise of Union to the top of the competition. Ideally employed in a system with two attackers, he makes the difference by chasing down his markers in defense whilst appearing in the box at the exactly right moment when a good setup is assured. It is unclear, especially with the dedication of the gaffer to the 4-2-3-1, what role Waegemakers could have but seeing how useful Schepers is at times, we see a role for him as well. Especially with the lack of a proper number ten, we could see Waegemakers play his part against some lesser alternatives.

23 – Forward – 27 years old – Marinos Thimpodopoulos (FHP)

Hannes Schaepdryver

Another remarkable figure, whose good looks and sponsor deals often make him the centre of the attention, even if he’s not scoring. But admittedly, that is not too often as Schaepdryver is an attacker who understands very well that production is what makes or breaks him. Stronger than you would expect from a player who stands at 1m81, he picks his duels carefully and wins them more often than opponents like. That timing allows him to score a series of goals but he is one who chooses his moments – critics tend to say he’s a bit picky with his chances. However, “it’s someone else’s job to supply them”, Schaepdryver once famously quoted and if he’s offered a proper shot at goal, it usually ends up against the net. Despite being a crucial player for a few years now already, previously at Pellegem and later at Grawarden, he is still missing a Golden Boot in his price cabinet. Nonetheless, he became the first Veldgouwian to win an international transfer and knocks on the door of an international breakthrough.

TEAM HISTORY
This is the fourth soccer/football tournament of any kind that Drawkland has officially competed in in the multiversal stage. After taking on the Global Cup of Soccer, Independents Cup, and finally the Baptism of Fire, the Corps is now truly broken in and ready to face the "big boys" of the World Cup Quals.
This is the official form of the roster to feature a Reserve Roster in addition to the Main Roster. After only having a starting lineup for the GCoS, a test reserve roster for the IC, and a full Start/Reserve roster for the Baptism of Fire, the team has now settled on their official arrangement and lineup. The Main Roster has featured a few changes from earlier tournaments and the Reserve Roster has been locked in. This is the lineup personally selected by the Drawkian International Sporting Council (DISC) to represent Drawkland: those chosen are undeniably the best at what they do and excel under the team chemistry and dynamic.
Drawkian soccer, and indeed, sporting in general, is mostly offensive-minded. This is reflected in the style indicator and in the formation. Drawkian soccer has not really been exposed to outside influences, and thus may look or feel strange to those used to "normal" football. Nevertheless, the players are still good at what they do, and prize in an enduring game, moving the ball around nearly constantly and keeping energy going, aiming to tire out the opposing team. Of course, Drawkians aren't humans, but you can read about that elsewhere. Oh yes, and Drawkian Soccer is a female-only sport. This may change, but not for a *long* time. This is because Gridiron Football is all-male, and the other two major sports, Baseball and Basketball, are mixed-gender. If there's anything a Drawkian loves, it's even formats and symmetric paradigms, hence why things shook out like they did.
Most of the team, including the manager, are made up from home-grown talent, coming from the highest-quality teams. However, a few have branched out to foreign leagues, mainly those of Eastern Rushmore, that of Ceni and the Isles of Avon. More information on the players is to come later.

TEAM RECORDS
First Match: Drawkland 3-3 Averyickan City
First Win: Capital District, Ward 1 4-6 Drawkland
First Loss: Great Caledonia and North Hybernia 2-2 Drawkland (2-2 AET) [3-1 PKs]
Highest Score: Capital District, Ward 1 4-6 Drawkland
Lowest Score: Drawkland 0-0 Kosovakia (1-0 AET)
Best Win: Turkmebasyn 0-3 Drawkland
Worst Loss: Drawkland 0–4 Schottia
Most Important: Drawkland 3-2 Great Caledonia and North Hybernia
Best End Result: 3rd Place (Baptism of Fire 64)
Global Cup of Soccer 1: The first tournament where Drawkland competed on the international soccer stage. It featured no reserve roster, the Starting XI were the only players sent to the Cup. Started with an exciting Group Stage, having a 3-3 draw with Averyickan City and a 1-1 draw against Lisander, a win against the Gregoryisgodistan Capital District, Ward 1 was needed to make it to the knockout rounds. And such a win was needed, in a high-octane 4-6 win. Wins on Paradisiam and Kosovakia slid the Kick Corps into the semifinals, where they unexpectedly flopped to Great Caledonia and North Hybernia on Penalty Kicks and proceeded to get mowed over 0-2 in the 3rd Place match by Free Republics, ending their initial campaign with a disappointing 4th place which they hope to never repeat in any tournament again. Despite the sour ending, though, the Corps got some much-needed chemistry and solidification, as well as confidence on the international stage, which hopefully proves to be invaluable in future tournaments.
Independents Cup 1: In the first Cup where Drawkland had a reserve roster, and therefore wider team options and more freedom to take chances, they were expected to do at least a little bit better, as far as team chemistry goes. However, the much tougher competition was definitely going to be a challenge, considering this would be the Drawkians' first exposure to absolute World-Class teams. Being drawn in a group with familiar names like Schottia, Revolutionary Nordskania, and Greater Vakolicci Haven went as expected, with a huge 0-4 loss to the most recent Cup of Harmony runners-up to start, a large 3-1 win over the underpowered Greater Vakolicci Haven, and a disappointing defeat to the Nordskanians, 3-1. However, despite the rather dismal performance, they still barely qualified for the knockout round. The defeat to Flardania, 1-0 in the Round of 16, was a little disappointing, but it proved that even if the Drawkians were going to go down in the playoffs, they'd make it a bloody hard match to win (such an assumption can easily be corroborated based on their GCoS performance).
Baptism of Fire 64: The big event, as it was referred to, was where Drawkland finally made their foray into the World Cup Cycle. Spirits were high going into the tournament and many were slating the Drawkians to take the whole tournament before it started. A 1-1 draw to Kernovi wasn't the start they imagined, but an 0-3 win on Turkmenbasyn followed by a 1-1 draw to Amnarei-asud was enough to send Drawkland to the knockout rounds. Winning 3-2 versus Ndaku in the first round, followed by an 0-2 win on Mriin was certainly expected, but a brutal 1-2 AET loss to none other than Amnarei-asud in the Semifinal sent the Corps to their second third place matchup, which was really not where they wanted to end up. However, they delightfully made light of the situation by beating the despised Great Caledonia and North Hybernia by a 3-2 margin to at least get bronze.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Scorers: Yes
Choose Scoring Events: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Yes
Yellow Card my Players: Yes
Red Card my Players: Yes
Godmod Other Events: Yes
As far as these go, I'm fair game for anything. You should know what is and isn't drastic RP, and if you think your RP is on the drastic side, TG me first. But I'm still basically up for anything.
I'd like to request that injuries or cards don't do anything outside of the scope of a single game or maybe 2. Don't want anything tournament or cycle-ending. Red cards should be limited to late knockout stages, and I'd probably think that there should be no more than 2 players red carded per tournament.
Also, Ellzidan is a rather unique figure, as you'll come to find out, so you can go ahead and do some weirdness involving her if you'd like to make something less realistic occur. TG me if unsure.

Disclaimers of various sorts:
I don't know very much about soccer. If I RP something weird, it's because I have little to no experience with this sport. But whatever.
Player information will come later. I'll probably do little snippet bios for RPs in Qualifiers. Especially Ellzidan. You'll learn a lot about her soon.
If you have any questions about anything involving me, this team, my nation, this competition, life, etc., feel free to telegram me.

THE HOLY EMPIRE WC 77 SQUAD

While the nation took a long break from WCs 8 through 24, the Holy Empire is proud to be the only active nation to have participated in WC 1.

Though it pretends not to be, the nation is equally proud to have won 4 World Cup titles

This World Cup, the Holy Empire is [IC'ly] represented by a group of world-class footballers drawn from several different realities.

[OOC'ly the Empire is represented by prominent characters from children's literature; if the multiverse is infinite, or as infinite as makes no difference, then all of them can exist somewhere in the multiverse]

The Squad

Goal:
Tigger - a bundle of energy, and highly agile, but susceptible to distraction

Defence:
Rupert Bear - well, it's not as if he has to change colours; only speaks in rhyme
Edward 'Winnie-the-Pooh' Bear - though reputed to be of little brain, his tao-like approach to the defensive arts makes him an asset to any team
Paddington Bear - the Holy Empire Football Association utterly denies that this sturdy defender has already represented a nation known only as 'Peru'

Midfield:
Henry James Potter - the wizard of the wing will seek to work his magic at any opportunity
Bilbo Baggins - while somewhat lacking in the air, his low centre of gravity makes him a master of dribbling; also prone to disappearing from sight at odd moments
Aslan (cap) - because every team needs a real lion at the heart of the midfield
The Big Bad Wolf - he'll huff, and he'll puff, and he'll blow a way through your defence with his silky-smooth passing
Willy Wonka - unpredictable eccentric who can discomfort any opposition; but has a terribly unhealthy chocolate- & sugar-based diet

Forwards:
Captain James Hook - piratical forward with an extravagant line in headgear, and a missing right* hand
Long John Silver - piratical forward with an amazing line in poaching skills despite a peg leg, crutch, and a parrot on his shoulder

*we're following J.M Barrie here, not Disney

Substitutes:
The Gruffalo [g]
Mr Toad [def]
Tweedledum [mid]
Tweedledee [mid]
Moomintroll [for]

Coaches:

The team coach remains World Cup Hall of Fame legend Juan Tzimisces

The assistant coach is Starblaydi World Cup Hall of Fame legend Simeone Di Bradini

Style Modifiers / formation

Frosty football is attacking football. The Holy Empire always plays a 3-5-2 formation using overlapping wingers that turns into 3-3-4 on the counterattack.

[OOC'ly, for the purposes of scorination, the team uses the maximum attacking style modifier permitted by each cup's hosts.]

Kit
The team will wear famous Imperial Gold and Red, as worn by the Holy Empire since WC1...

(home top, away bottom)

Image

OOC'ly, the kits were designed by Red Blackiland, and the crest by Audioslavia - and I'm entirely grateful; I'm very happy for RB and Audio to take OOC credit. IC'ly, HEFA deny the Mundies had anything to do with it.

Stadium
The Holy Empire plays its home matches in the bejewelled, platinum-domed, and purple stone-walled Imperial Hippodrome, the oldest World Cup venue still in use, and one of the most famous - and impressive - stadiums in the multiverse.

RP instructions:
Have fun; but don't kill anyone, and don't try and launch attacks on the Dreamed Realm - largely because you can't.

While I'm generally happy for people to RP my team how they want within the above confines, I'd be grateful this tournament if you could try to have my players act more or less in character.

Some basic Dreamed Realm RP rules:
Remember that the Dreamed Realm lies entirely outside of Ordinary Reality, and is utterly impervious to harm from what we charmingly call 'mundies'.

Some points to remember about travel to, and playing in, the Dreamed Realm:

1) We control the nature of reality in the Dreamed Realm; reality and time are malleable within the Realm. This isn't used to cheat - all normal rules of football are strenuously followed - but it does have two major side effects:
A) Any injuries to either team in Imperial home matches are immediately healed.
B) No violent or riotous behaviour by visiting fans will be tolerated, unless permission is received in advance (please file applications for violent rioting in triplicate). Any such behaviour undertaken without appropriate permission will find those responsible immediately transported back to Ordinary Reality.

2) Direct travel from ordinary physical reality to the Dreamed Realm is impossible. Some 72 hours before your away qualifier in the Empire, a team of Archregimancy monks will arrive in your home stadium and construct a portal to the Dreamed Realm. You may then use this to travel to the Empire at your convenience.

Stadiums
Map of Fluvique

Little Box Stadium (55.000), Mevosa, Mevosa Province.

"Founded by Spaniards, designed by French and built by Italians". That could be the motto of the capital of Fluvique. Mevosa is a multicultural centre and the window of Fluvique. Long avenues, supmtuous palaces, big parks and cafes coexist with modern buildings and narrow streets, showing like no other the past and future of the Kingdom.

With more than 6.000.000 inhabitants, the Paris of Rushmore is a megalopolis with a cultural life which ranks among the best of the multiverse. It streets, monuments and squares, show to the travelers the story of the country. It's the most visited city of Fluvique, with an endless offer of attractions. A coffee in the Litle Angels boulevard, go shopping on the widest and longest avenue in the multiverse, the Revolution Avenue, a stroll through April Park, a play on Church Street and a candlelit dinner at the Old Port market, are a good plan for a day in Mevosa.

South Lane Stadium (90.000), Betham, Betham Province

In Fluvique, it has the reputation of be the ugliest of the big cities: by the imposing skyscrapers of the banks and insurance companies which dominate the skyline, it earned the nickname of 'Melhattan' (by the Mel River in the north of the city). But that's just a half of the city. Besides the big financial district, home of the Cooperative Bank of Fluvique and the Royal Commercial Bank, the city has a restored historic center and picturesque neighborhoods.

To discover the city it is only necessary start the walk from the town hall and the surrounding baroque-style buildings and houses and continue until Ferry street, the main shopping street. On the afternoon, the visitor could take the 'Betram', a tram line which goes from east-west (including one station near South Lane stadium). Betham also has a long standing tradition of museums, the first opened in 1850. Culinary offers include the famous 'sausage and chips' and the traditional cider.

South Lane stadium is the only all-seated in the country. Last major renovations were in 2011, when a roof and new seats were added and fences were removed. After incidents in WC75 qualifiers, new plastic fences were added in the visitor stand. It is the home of Betham FC, the team with more First Division titles.

King George Stadium (45.000), Greencastle, Greencastle Province

"Welcome to Greencastle! Welcome to the city of the good wine!", says the stadium voice every weekend when the local team plays at the King George stadium, to see those men who won the first league of the club in 2013. His voice is covered by the shouts of the fans packed in the terraces, cheering for one of the most attractive clubs in the First Division.

Football and wine are the passions of the more of 124.000 inhabitants of the city in the banks of the River of the Ducks. The city was founded by the British in the 1600s and many of the historic buildings in the city centre have Georgian style. Greencastle is birthplace of Queen Eugénie and the city becomes crazy when the teen monarch visits the royal residence at Flanny Cottage. The famous vineyards and wineries of the countryside are a major tourist destination and there 80% of the Fluviquean wines are produced.

Little Creek Stadium (50.000), Port Elizabeth, Alkanter Province

Port Elizabeth is considered the most passionate city in the country. The 510.000 citizens are split in two clubs: Alkanter Football Club and Alkanter Central, while their economy grows with fishery and automotive industry. "The city centre is a giant Café to enjoy the nightlife", says Charlotte with a smile. The Backstreet of the Legitimists, is a long lane of coffes, bars and restaurants. The locals enjoy the "food and football" lifestyle.

The city is known for being cradle of the national rock and every bar offers live shows and big festivals are held in the Fluviquean summer break (from December to February). A violent city during 1920s and 1930s, got the nickname of The Chicago of Fluvique. However, over the last decade, Port Elizabeth has become center of the railway industry and one of the engines of the Fluviquean economy since 2004.

The Circle Stadium (50.000), Geneva, Geneva Province

The Genevians are proud of their city, the third most populated with 2.500.000 inhabitants. The climate is harsh. The average summer temperature is around 5°C, but it can drop to -2°C at night. The city remains free of snow until late March, when the snowfalls freeze lakes and rivers. Geneva is located in one of the slopes of the Fever Mountains, near the Centenary river, filled with kayaks in summer and spring

In the past it was a city of miners, now renovated thanks to the ski areas and resorts and the use of clean energies. The visitor should enjoy a cup of the famous hot chocolate with plaisents in one of the many bars of the centre and ride a cariole around the city.
