The South Yerfilag Ball Sports Association is a proud participant
in the Football League Championship Series
IC INFO
Image
Die Republiek van Suid-Yerfilag
The Republic of South Yerfilag

Founded as the mutual cooperation of two friendly tribes, the Scantorians, a proud people with extreme racial heritage, and Cincysians, migrants with a tradition of democracy and culture, South Yerfilag sits on the southern edge of the fork-shaped Yerfilag Island in southwestern Rushmore. ((OOC: Please don't look on the map; it's not there.)) Having just come out of a year-long bloody civil war between the legitimate government and Jessica Mobutu's rebel faction, who seized power, renamed the nation "Zyarus," and forced an ethnic cleansing, South Yerfilag has nearly completed the first of three phases of rebuilding, and is beginning the second, which is rebuilding its public infrastructure. While this happens, many of the conventional football stadiums have yet to be rebuilt. However, the SYBSA, returning from exile, found three to be intact enough for international competitions. This forced the SYBSA to consider, and then purchase, an air-supported dome, which they factored into the creation of an indoor sport complex.

VENUE INFO

Group A: Baarsbruck Field, Baarsbruck (66,655)
(Also hosts: One Quarterfinal and One Semifinal)
Image
This field, soon to also house an FLCS team, is the oldest indoor stadium built for an outdoor sport in South Yerfilag.

Group B: The Ground at the Gulch, Southpointe (24,350)
(Also hosts: One Quarterfinal and the Third-Place Game)
Image
The Ground at the Gulch is situated at the southernmost point in South Yerfilag. The road you see near the bottom left ends at the South Seaport, which is both the only major ERAO sea trade port for South Yerfilag and the nation's largest shopping centre.

Group C: Verstadion Taal-Vergertersweg, Paasro (30,288)
(Also hosts: One Quarterfinal and one Semifinal)
Image
This stadium's name honours one of the old Scantorian ruling houses, the Taal-Vergerter family; they still own the complex and only recently purchased a modernisation contract from a major construction company to increase its capacity.

Group D: Die Tunnelveld, Heelje (2,500)
(Also hosts: One Quarterfinal)
Image
The name was chosen because of the air-ride-equipped bubble over the field. This is the only field on which artificial turf is used. The turf is prorated for moulded cleats. Metal spikes may NOT be used at this venue.

The Final: Stadium of Legends (Stadion van Legendes), Praetors' Point
Image
The Stadium of Legends, South Yerfilag's largest sport venue and home to its national soccer team, is a state-of-the-art stadium located in the southwest corner of its capital city, Praetors' Point, on the corner of 36th Avenue and 19th Street. Its capacity of 85,600 (during the main association football season) also makes it an ideal venue for many other nationally-oriented non-sport contests, such as the national musical talent contest (South Yerfilag Sings!) and the National Cheerleading and Dance Finals, which are held using special platforms to avoid wearing down the turfed surfaces. It is located 16 km away from the National Plaza, home to South Yerfilag's national government offices, and 21 km away from ZedCel Park, home to South Yerfilag's national baseball team.

THE ASKARI UNION
Preferred Formation:
4-3-1-2
Style Modifier: -2
Playstyle: Partnerships! The Askari play in tight pairs and emphasise teamwork and physicality!
Kit Supplier: Cloaker
Captain: Carmine Quaglia
Nickname: le Porpore

The Askari are optimists, first and foremost. You kind of have to be to be in a tentatively stable communist-constructivist state, where the economy may be held together by prayer and duct tape and pure fortune is keeping anyone sufficiently malignant from the office of Chancellor, but they've already exceeded expectations by winning A Point last campaign! They'll rely on that same spirit of unity this time around, where they somehow find themselves second seeds.

The Legaskari is fairly weak and runs under a fittingly socialist, salary-capped and closed system. As it's only recently professionalised, the standard is really bad, and most of their best players have left.

Supplied by a mostly curious Cloaker, of Nephara. Capitalist scum they might be, but they have far more modern technology.

Tactics
Image
First-choice lineup.
The Askari play defensively and emphasise hard work and, it has to be said, maybe a touch of firm and mostly fair physicality. Set pieces are their main threat, they've been drilled to within an inch of their lives, but they also pose a threat on the counterattack. They'd like to be technically adept, but they aren't.

Staff
Manager: Dante Marchesi
Asst. Manager: Nerio Marino

Marchesi manages the defensive-minded, very blue-collar Grigio Calcio domestically as his day job, and it's his reputation as an organiser and motivator that got him the job with the Union. He brought his capable assistant, Marino, with him.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Pierluigi Cevenni - Age 28 - Mekhanist Lokomotiv (USI)
12 - GK - Gentian Brillante - Age 24 - AC Sainati
18 - GK - Corrado Marchegiano - Age 24 - SSC Honneur

Cevenni is an excellent reflex stopper more or less baseline capable in all other things. It was enough to leverage his way to a position in the Sunrise Islands! Brillante and Marchegiano are okay, but Cevenni was their standout player last Copa.

Defenders
2 - RB - Andria Riva - Age 25 - Hussards
3 - LB - Carmine Quaglia (c) - Age 28 - Zakhoro Aces (COS)
4 - CB - Chiarina Leone - Age 29 - Dinamo Sainati
5 - CB - Valerian Perrot - Age 33 - SSC Honneur
13 - CB - Armand Tamboure - Age 24 - Grigio Calcio
16 - LB - Eloisa Primavera - Age 21 - New Llama Capitals (SLL)
17 - RB - Cygnet Valeri - Age 19 - Mille SailorLunas (USI)
21 - CB - Ganymede Pentangeli - Age 26 - SSC Honneur

Fortunately for the Union, Riva and Quaglia on the flanks are two of their best players, quick and defensively solid, and happy to run all across the pitch. Leone is more of a constructor than a destroyer (like Perrot), cultured enough to take the ball forward sometimes but still capable of clearing her lines. The backup centre-halves are a good step below the first-choices, and are unlikely to see much time - Primavera and Valeri, however, have strong potential.

Midfielders
6 - CM - Zoe Aucciello - Age 26 - Hussards
8 - RCM - Paulu Ansaldi - Age 27 - Stade-National
10 - LCM - Stefano Gagnon - Age 31 - SSC Crespoli
11 - AM - Gratien Accorsi - Age 23 - Stade-National
14 - AM - Lethe Cirvante - Age 20 - Mille SailorLunas (USI)
19 - CM - Gwenael Bisset - Age 22 - Hussards
20 - CM - Orianne Mantovani - Age 28 - FC Elan
23 - CM - Aurora Solignac - Age 19 - Golden Eagles (AVN)

A young and talented midfield which goes for technique over physicality, especially the intelligent Hussards teammates Aucciello and Bisset. Ansaldi offers that hard-running option, while Lethe Cirvante is a classy, clever operator with nimble feet and vision that probably outstrips her final ball. The quick-footed, daring Accorsi and the jet-heeled Solignac are the two best substitutes in the side - Gagnon is merely a water-carrier.

Forwards
7 - ST - Magali Quaranta - Age 27 - Centus Serpents (COS)
9 - ST - Rolando Ambrosi - Age 28 - AC Sainati
15 - ST - Alyx Sabbadin - Age 25 - Hussards
22 - ST - Luciano Bustinza - Age 28 - SSC Honneur

Quaranta is easily the best striker in the side, having crushed the Legaskari before winning a move to Sekundar Ligan side Centus. She's lean, quick and a ruthless finisher - Ambrosi is her but subtly worse at everything. So's Sabbadin, while Bustinza offers a more robust, muscular option. For the most part, the forwards are made for counterattacking.

PLAYSTYLE
The Savojar team plays a defensive game, relying on its size, strength and speed to score. It tries to trap the opponent and counters quickly. Set balls are a strength of the team, as are games against quick, technical opponents. Weaknesses of the team are making the game and getting through an organised defense.

THE EMPIRE OF GREATER ANGLATIA ROSTER
THE EXPLORERS

Last cycle saw the Explorers put on a disappointing performance in the World Cup qualifying cycle, falling short of reaching the finals for the first time because of a single dropped point. They would then crash out early of the Cup of Harmony, to regress from the previous fourth place finish. However, the feeling around this team isn't totally pessimistic. Redvali manager Yanick Martins has brought a bit of the Redvale's magic to the Empire, and has sparked a new locker room harmony that could see Anglatia rise again and make another deep run in a regional tournament.

Team Name: Eagles

The Isles of Avon are a small, irrelevant island chain nation in Eastern Rushmore off the coast of Terranea, south of Ceni. Drawkland wished to have territory in Rushmore, and given that Ceni had influence over Avon, "gifted" The territory to them.

Soon after, the Federation of Avonian Soccer was formed, and a league bloomed. The FAS League merged with Cenileague the next cycle to create I-League, which was surprisingly competitive between the Avonian rookies and the Cenian vets.

The 11 best players in the league that could fill a needed position were talked to and were put on the National Team for a last-second entry by FAS to the Baptism of Fire and World Cup (which has seemed to flop). Dean Regis, who managed Northampton, the first winners of the the Avonian League, was selected due to his success.

Now, after rather embarrassing themselves (besides a 1-0 win over Audioslavia) in the Baptism of Fire and World Cup, they're ready to maybe embarrass themselves less in this Copa Rushmori. At least, compared to the last time.

After the World Cup Cycle, they managed to get ahold of an order form for Meski and now they're far from the custom-printed T-shirts they ordered online and wore last cycle. Pictured here are the Home, Away, and Goalkeeper jerseys in that order.

MANAGERIAL STAFF
Manager: Lysander Ying Uing
Lysander did a lot in his first qualifying campaign and ultimately was 4 points away from tying for second place and a chance at a play-off. With a win on the last day they really could have put pressure on their opponents. That said Ying Uing likely will want to actually advance out of the first round of the Copa this time around after the worst ever performance the last time.
Assistant Manager: Peter Wiggin
. Peter Wiggin will continue on as assistant Manager as many people think he is looking to one day take the position of manager and do better than any before, especially better than his brother.

GOALKEEPERS

1 - Xavier Troubador - Fadron Flight 71 Caps, 30 Years Old
Xavier Troubador has still not managed to win the Premier League but he seems likely to be the type of player who finally helps Taeshan return to the World Cup. He is now in his fourth cup as the starting Keeper and in what may be his last opportunity with a strong corps he hopes to finally push the team over the edge, but first maybe he can get a second Copa win for the nation.
12 - Jillian Montague - Real Atlantea 2 Caps, 23 Years Old
Jillian Montague continues to be a strong bench option and will look to continue the form she has for her club with the national team and maybe get another cap during this tournament.
24 - Gregoire Avery - New Capetown Falcons 1 Cap, 26 Years Old
With each passing year Avery seems less and less likely to be the new starter, with his club form barely what it used to be and with strong young goalies the once future Keeper now seems to just be an also ran.
DEFENDERS

2 - LB, Gordon Bombay – Real Atlantea 46 Caps, 30 Years Old
Gordon Bombay seems likely to retire after the upcoming world cup qualifiers has a few injuries have caught up with him and his club form is lacking while the second wingback on Real Atlantea, Alexander Kaiba, seems like the heir apparent to a fullback spot, and the RB spot seems good currently.

3 - CB, Andrew Chesnut - Los Riosa Monstas 84 Caps, 2 Goals, 30 Years OldVice-Captain
Musings in the camp around Andrew Chesnut were that he would retire after captaining the side through a tournament but with Maxwell McMichael not retiring til the end of the current campaign it seems likely that Chesnut will not hang up his national team boots until the next campaign is over, which is good for the center defense of the nation.

4 - CB, Jefferson Lafitte - 1093 Club de Atlantea 21 Caps, 28 Years Old
On the other side of central defense strong righty Jefferson Lafitte really seems to be coming into his own for the national side and looks ready to anchor the team back to the promised land.

5 - RB, Moki Nguyen – Atlantea Hurricanes 47 Caps, 29 Years Old
Moki Nguyen is a defensive minded fullback and that game tends to age better than an attacking style and it shows in Nguyen’s continued club form. Hopefully this means he has two more campaigns left in him.
14- Alexander Kaiba - Real Atlantea 8 Caps, 23 Years Old
Alexander Kaiba seems likely to take over a fullback spot in the next tournament but until then he has an option as an attacking wingback on the bench and against smaller teams. He seemed likely to take over for Nguyen as he is right footed, but rumors are that Nguyen may move to Left Back for the next campaign allowing Kaiba to slot right in.
21 – Torsten Abigail – Tintown Terrapins 4 Caps, 23 Years Old
Torsten Abigail is the senior center back on the bench and is likely to step in shortly as a starting center back. There is a theory that he and Ford Cancun are a favored pair of Ying Uing’s and may see the field sooner rather than later.

23- Ford Cancun - Real Chinchinhua 2 Caps, 22 Years Old
Ford Cancun is a year younger than Torsten Abigal and is the right footed tall version of his teammate.

MIDFIELDERS

6 - CDM, Maxwell McMichael - Knightspurs 69 Caps, 1 Goal, 32 Years Old Captain
Maxwell McMichael continues as the captain and the midfield destroyer. He is a strong player and is known for breaking up play in the center of the park and also for getting the ball forward with a very tuned passing game.

9- LM, Everett Eskandarian – Llara Llera (San Llera) 35 Caps, 3 Goals, 30 Years Old
Everett Eskandarian took over the left midfield position less than two years ago and continues to be a strong left footed player. He seems unlikely to retire at the end of the upcoming campaign, but stranger things have happened.

10- CAM, Enrique Fuegahita – Real Chinchinhua 20 Caps, 2 Goals, 22 Years Old
Enrique had an interesting first campaign in the driver’s seat of the Taeshan offense but all signs point to a successful future. Given the keys to the offense by Ying Uing he has shown promise and could be a huge factor in the future hopes of the team.

11 - RM, Anton Vader - Hannah 31 Caps, 1 Goal, 27 Years Old
Anton Vader is in strong form for his club side and many think he can continue it for the national team. The speedy right winger seems ready for another big performance in this tournament.
15 – Janson Jewsbury – Bayern-Algaer 0 Caps, 21 Years Old
The only new face to the Taeshan national team is former U21 player Janson Jewsbury. Playing for Algaer he has managed many impressive performances and could be a good option on the bench for Ying Uing.

17- Elton Petersheim – Bayern-Algaer 15 Caps, 22 Years Old
The young left winger has proven a vital option off the bench with more speed than either of the starting wide midfielders and honestly more attacking merit than either as well. That said he hasn’t mastered full use of his talents for a full 90 minutes and that usually seems him subbed off for club and on for country.

18 – Ensign Petersheim – New Capetown Falcons 15 Caps, 1 Goal, 22 Years Old
With Maxwell McMichael likely to retire after this campaign Ensign seems the likely new defensive midfielder. Often coming in to ensure games he has been known to be a strong ball winner, and has a knack for starting great counter attacks.

20 – Tavon Greenshire- New Capetown Falcons - 8 Caps, 22 Years Old
Tavon Greenshire seems an option to play on the right side in the future, or even as an attacking midfielder with Fuegahita if a formation change occurs. That said the last time the 4-4-2 was used for Taeshan was decades ago.

19 – Wilhelm Quinones - Yaton FC 3 Caps, 21 Years Old
Wilhelm Quinones is another strong young winger type who can be used as an option as an impact sub on the bench.

23 – Alejandro Caracas - Atlantea Hurricanes 2 Caps, 23 Years Old
Alejandro Caracas is a central midfield type and could see gametime if various other players are unable to go.

STRIKERS

7 - RS, Landon van Neymar – Blacklake Blues 67 Caps, 13 Goals, 28 Years Old
Van Neymar continues to be a strong striker for his club and his ability to play with Miles Snavely is second to none in the recent memory. He plays the speedy attacker who makes many runs off of Snavely.

8 - LS, Miles Snavely – Cenial United (Ceni) 71 Caps, 50 Goals, 26 Years Old
Miles Snavely is not the biggest guy in the world but he knows how to hold a ball, he is pretty fast on his own and his pretty much the best Taeshani goalscorer since Brian Ying Uing and will likely be the most famous one for the future.

13 – Jon Hutch – Atlantea Hurricanes 8 Caps, 1 Goal, 24 Years Old
Jon Hutch is a strong hold up type striker and could see action off the bench if Miles Snavely is struggling or they want to switch to three up front with a target forward.

16 – Gordie von Houten – Real Atlantea 8 Caps, 1 Goal, 25 Years Old
Gordie is the speed option on the bench with an ability to do well as a winger, and as a false nine.

THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF THE UNITED SOCIALIST STATES OF PRIDNESTROVIA
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

It has been at least six years since Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko was defeated in glorious battle against the forces of the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft, six years since the greatest field marshal the world has ever seen was undisputably beaten by the forces of a faraway country that was still in the midst of recovering from a devastating religious civil war. Those six years have seen humiliation upon humiliation bestowed by these meddling foreigners upon the once and only rightful ruler of the United Socialist States, Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko. The nation, and our Great Leader, was forced to accept a humiliating peace with the "Democratic" Republic, which saw our glorious nation become a mere "client state" of these troublesome foreigners. In exchange, Great Leader Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko, would remain in position as rightful ruler of the Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia, as befitting his station in life. Yet knowing that he is only ruler by virtue of a foreigner's whim has weighed down hard on the Great Leader Field Marshal. This resulted in the great United Socialist States closing itself off from the rest of the multiverse, so that no foreigner would see the shame that had been wrought upon the Great Leader.

But no longer. Great Leader Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko has decided that the time for seclusion is over. No longer will Pridnestrovia remain under the shadow of the foreigners that had forced itself upon our great nation. We will show that Pridnestrovia has what it takes to become a real and true member of the multiversal community. But we will not do it through our military force. Instead, we will show that we are the best in the multiverse through sports! Sports, which is just codified barbarism! This will show the multiverse that Pridnestrovia is the best sporting country in the world! We will defeat every other nation that dares come up against us!

(OOC: I love being a dictatorial country's propaganda writer)

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: The Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia
Demonym: Pridnestrovian
Team colors: Green and red
Style modifier: +4 (Quite an attacking side)
Formation: 3-5-2
Head coach: Werner Ceausescu (65 y/o, Pridnestrovia)

STARTERS
GK: Svyatoslav Alkaev 31 y/o, Marinos Thimpodopoulos Image
One of the most recognizable faces of Pridnestrovian football. Alkaev was one of the rising stars of Sheriff Tiraspol's renowned Academy of Football and was already making waves as the Peacekeepers' cup keeper, making a couple of penalty shootout saves to win Sheriff the Pridnestrovian Cup over rivals Dinamo Bender when he received his first call-up as Pridnestrovia's starting keeper in the Baptism of Fire, which paved the way for his eventual signing by Fleftic Premier League side Marinos Thimpodopoulos, based in the Fleftic colony of Fhulghamous Peninsula, alongside fellow Pridnestrovian international Boyan Radev. There is no way but up for Alkaev, especially if this Copa Rushmori campaign is as good as the last one.

RB: Bohuslav Gavrilyuk 34 y/o, Sheriff Tiraspol Image
One of the dependable figures in both Sheriff Tiraspol and the Pridnestrovian national football team. Gavrilyuk has served both club and country well in the right back position, and while age is beginning to catch up to him, reducing his pace and acceleration a bit, he's still capable of making a good attack-breaking tackle, meaning there's still a few years left in him. Maybe ten more years. After all, his father Shimon played until he was 43.

CB: Aleksey Vasilyev 30 y/o, Locomotive Imgortur Image
Whoever said that a back line of only three defenders would be torn to pieces in the Fleftic Premier League obviously hadn't predicted the rise of Aleksey Vasilyev in the center back position, and while the departure of Charles Amoroso to Farfadillis may leave Locomotive in a dangerous position following their 7th-place finish last season, but hopefully some activity in the transfer window will add some strength to the backbone and add defensive strength alongside Vasilyev.

LB: Olek Budny 32 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Image
Budny replaced the aging Isidor Petrov in the starting lineup after an injury suffered while playing a friendly against Abanhfleft convinced Petrov to retire from international football. Budny is no slouch in defense, being a capable backup left-back for Rosenpfelblatz City and doing his share of game-winning or even game-tying tackles and defensive headers. He also does well for his country, although this is the first time that he has a chance to show that he has the capacity to do it for the whole ninety minutes.

RM: Dumitru Anghelescu 34 y/o, Sheriff Tiraspol Image
Anghelescu has the stereotypical qualities of Romanian Pridnestrovians writ large on the football field: often too attacking when the team needs to defend, and also oftentimes sitting back too deeply to actually be able to attempt some kind of offside trap when that was what the team strategy demanded. Anghelescu bombs everywhere just like how Pridnestrovians see Romanian Pridnestrovians, who are generally seen in Pridnestrovia as people who do the exact opposite of what they're told. Still, isn't that a bit offensive for Romanian Pridnestrovians?

RDM: Demyan Wasylyk 30 y/o, Dinamo Bender Image
Wasylyk plays well for both club and country, and he did score the 20-yard shot that let the Dynamos equalize against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Derby of All Derbies (even though he missed the penalty shot during the Pridnestrovian Cup Final against the same team). He has a penchant for the long shot from outside the box, and he does tend to convert these chances half of the time. Perhaps being a little more clinical in finishing shots and taking chances from inside the box could turn him into a real goalscoring threat.

CDM: Valentin Funar 31 y/o, Admiral Novorossiysk-na-Dnistr Image
Funar's calming presence in the center of midfield means that little to no mistakes happen in that part of the pitch whenever he's around. He has a mean tackle and can thunder in shots from long range, sometimes as far as the halfway line, but if he has a weakness, it is that sometimes he can be caught off guard when it comes to going back on defense. He plays well for Admiral Novorossiysk, but many people believe that he deserves a move to another, bigger club. Perhaps his performances in the Copa Rushmori will finally get him a move away from the midtable club.

LDM: Vladislav Bogomolov 31 y/o, Sheriff Tiraspol Image
One of the more dependable players in Pridnestrovia's packed defensive midfield, Bogomolov is yet another product of Sheriff's Academy of Football, and this shows in his high defensive output and work rate. Bogomolov will not hesitate to tackle and get physical with opposing players, which means that he has a career filled with bookings and sending offs. Opposing players may try to use this to get Bogomolov sent off, but more times than not, he doesn't need too much encouragement. He's happy and willing to do much of the dirty work himself.

LM: Demyan Pajari 25 y/o, Dinamo Bender Image
Pajari is the second player to be elevated from the bench to the starting lineup following the retirement from international football of his Dinamo teammate Yaroslav Wasylyshyn, who made the decision to hang up his international boots after getting injured in the same friendly against Abanhfleft that also convinced Isidor Petrov to retire from international footy. This isn't to say that Pajari isn't any good. He's got tons of potential, whole bagloads of them, and about the only thing holding him back from realizing this is the fact that he's got two left feet and can't control a long ball to save his life.

CF: Boyan Radev 27 y/o, Marinos Thimpodopoulos Image
Radev's performances in Baptism of Fire 58, World Cup 71 and Cup of Harmony 63 earned him a transfer from Sheriff Tiraspol's bench and into the starting lineup of Marinos Thimpodopoulos, the Fhulghamous-based club that turned into last season's surprise package in the Fleftic Premier League, not only achieving safety within the top flight but also getting up to a 10th place finish, the club's best ever finish to date, which isn't saying much considering that that was the Mariners' first season in the Prem. Radev combined with Pruski international Lukasz Przyborowski and German-born striker Friedemann Aleshire to make Marinos the third-highest scoring team in last season's Premier League, with only Arsenal de Releinthi and Riuwiee United scoring more than the colonial club. Radev is currently on hot form and will look to pass this onto his appearances for the national team.

CF: Selim Tiryaki 33 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi Image, Captain
Tiryaki seemed like a panic buy to many Gooners when Godric Wexler picked him up from Sheriff Tiraspol as a bench option for Gal Tza'eer and Godzilla. Now, two years later, Tiryaki is now an important player in the side, and it's all down to his dedication in winning back the ball. He doesn't have the strength and hold-up play of Tza'eer and the outright doggedness of Godzilla, but when the ball is at Tiryaki's feet, magic happens. There's no other way to describe it. Surely he'll be able to do it for his country as well. He was put in the starting lineup to allow for the injured Peter Schermer to recover from his injury.

Starting Lineup, Formation, and Tactics:

Image

Valladares' usual formation is a 3-2-2-3 (or 3-4-3 for general reference), which can turn into either a very aggressive yet non-conventional 3-2-5 for attacking or a 5-4-1 (a 3-6-1, even) when the team feel the need to enter into a defensive mode. La Nacional will always be looking to attack and retain ball possession for as long as possible, trying to score many goals in the shortest possible time and mounting an insurmountable lead for the second half of the match when players from both teams start showing signs of fatigue. This squad mostly relies on the speed of both Abel Brücke and Angelo Farías on the wings both in attack and in defense modes, with defensive midfielders Jonathan Bosetti and Pedro Pedretti being able to retreat to the defensive line with ease whenever the team lose ball possession in order to form a line of 5 defenders, thus giving rival forwards a very hard time when trying to break through the Valladar defense. The 3 forwards are also very speedy and talented but most of all, dangerous: they can turn seemingly harmless crosses into goals, create chances and score goals out of nothing, and kill defenses with speed and lethal counterattacks.

Eastfield Lodge Roster for Copa Rushmori 26

Demonym: Eastfielder

Eastfield Lodge is a pretty glorious nation, somewhat situated in Northern Rushmore - in reality, there's a very small island (acting as a transport hub) which hosts a portal linking the NSverse to a small bubble universe, wherein the rest of the Imperial Commonwealth is located (barring a couple of nations, but they’re linked up in other ways). The IC part describes the fact that there are several empires contained within one superstructure – divisions which are somewhat reflected in the convoluted league structure.

Those of you who know this nation well however will wonder what has happened to the Whoniverse (the universe of Doctor Who, the TV programme). Don’t worry, I will (hopefully) RP what went on. To those who don’t know, this nation used be in the NSverse, but due to the acts of a lone madman from The Holy Empire (mad, or pitiful, the legends are a bit shaky), Eastfield Lodge almost vanished from existence, leaving behind a small island (now in Rushmore), attached to a portal connecting here to the Whoniverse. Things happened, the portal became unstable, and we had to form a bubble universe, and as a result, the resulting temporal shockwave both wiped out all electronic records, and did some weird stuff to people’s ages (hence why some names in the team may seem recognisable).

Anyways, because of the initial portal, whilst humans are the overwhelming majority of the populace here, don't be surprised to find several other races and much advanced technology here. Some more historical information can be found here, in lieu of a factbook (NB: a lot of the information there is inaccurate though, TG me for clarification).

Back to the nation itself, Eastfield Lodge is probably the best place to live in the entirety of Rushmore, according to the WA at any rate. Amongst the accolades heaped upon are: Most Compassionate Citizens, Most Beautiful Environments, Happiest Citizens, Most Dedicated Public Healthcare, Healthiest Citizens, Least Corrupt Government, Longest Average Lifespan, Lowest Crime Rates, Nicest Citizens, Largest Public Transportation Department, Safest, Smartest Citizens, Most Popular Tourist Destinations, Best Weather and Largest Welfare Programs. Also of note is the fact that, in a region containing Saintland, Eastfield Lodge is the Most Devout nation, with Islam being the national religion, and that we have the Highest Police Ratios, so do not be alarmed by the sheer number of police officers.

Lodger City Memorial Stadium
Location: New Lodger City
Capacity: 150,000
Description: The home of Eastfielder football, the stadium was built on the ruins of the old capital of Eastfield Lodge, Lodger City, which was flattened in a double disaster (severe floods from dams bursting and an explosion from an unknown source, killing much of the population of the city and rendering the city useless. Administrative functions were transferred over to Lodgertia, the city began to be rebuilt, and it was decided that this stadium would be one of the monuments erected in place. The inside walls contains inscriptions of the names of all the dead – just under 9 million. The stadium used to play host to the two classic giants of EL football – RGS Athletic and VLC FC - until both had their new stadiums finished; it is now only used for internationals and cup matches.

Parliament Stadium
Location: Lodgertia
Capacity: 80,000
Description: Formerly the second largest stadium in Eastfield Lodge (until King Iqbal II and Vorgan Park were completed), behind the Memorial Stadium in New Lodger City, it was built in the centre of Lodgertia, the capital of Eastfield Lodge, and the Imperial Commonwealth. It was named due to the fact that the Parliament is based just a few hundred metres down the road; in fact, the original stadium was actually joined to the Parliament building, as an area where MPs could watch or even engage in sport with the public, as well as being a designated protest site. However, with Lodgertia becoming more built up, it was decided that the stadium needed to be built up as well. It is home to Lodgertia United and Lodgertia City alongside being temporary hosts of RGS Athletic and VLC FC (when Lodger City was being rebuilt), and in the past has hosted several international matches, including the final of SBCC 27 and a group in both stages of Market Cup 4.

Manager: Lowell Brown
Age: 58. Manager of Seaton Town, Brown is known in Eastfield Lodge for being one of the fairest and impartial managers in the top flight - if his team were lucky with a decision, he will not claim otherwise. Prior to being selected as National Team manager, he had managed on the international scene previously, being put in charge of both the men’s and women’s Olympic football teams.
Coach: Shabeen Ahmad III
Age: 63. He went down in Eastfield Lodge history as having scored an absurd 201 goals in 215 appearances for the EL national team (records are still being compiled, but he looks likely to be the human player with the highest tally). Still an inspiration to everyone and even at this age his skill is noticeable, even if his agility has waned. He has been the main offensive coach for several World Cups now.

Formation: 4-1-2-3
Image

The formation is a weird variant on the classic basic 4-3-3. Here, there is the one holding midfielder, and the other two are pushed up to play just off the ST as attacking midfielders, whilst the WFs are also slightly tucked in from a usual position. This allows them more of an equal choice of either cutting in or going out wide for the cross, which may be met by the other winger or one of the midfielders. The front five can drift to other positions at any time, just to keep defences on their toes. Defensively, the AMs will drop back and slightly out wide or into the middle as required, and are decently proficient at dispossessing the ball and using it well. The DM is mainly there to guard the defence, and is adept at picking out a pass (short or long), and helping to dictate plays. The CBs are as standard, but the FBs are given the freedom to roam forwards as far as they can get away with, and more often than will get involved in attacking plays, with some crosses from both deep and closer in.
In terms of goal scoring, the ST will get the bulk of the goals, with good contributions from both the AMs and the WFs as well. The WFs will get most of the assists, followed closely by the AMs, then the ST and DM.

If there is no line-up, look through my posts and check for current suspensions/injuries, but otherwise it’s fine. Also, if you're RP'ing any part of my match, please use the full name Eastfield Lodge at least once, it helps me find the RP.

NB: As the people of EL are extremely compassionate, and very civilised (despite what you may say about the religion), it would be uncharacteristic for the coaches/players to lose their temper, dive deliberately (jumping out of the way of bad tackles and falling awkwardly doesn't count), to be sent to the stands (if the ref is clearly very biased however...), spit, argue with the ref or fight. Players will also tend to inform the referee about mistakes/clarifications in judgement regarding throw-ins, fouls given but with no contact and goal kicks/corner kicks (plus other bouts of honesty - up to you).

An open letter.
A group of eleven footballers from the Platform Moon team were rebelling against the team due to "unscrupulous practices".
Supposedly, Yo Hibiki and Platform Moon's president had been in cahoots, using the Eastern Sunrisian national team as a scouting ground.
They'd be signed for less and the eleven players sold to whatever team chose to invest on them.
Helena Artjoms-Watkins, Henry Walkovist-Milton, Marcela Lisakki-Kádár, John Jahan-Southgate, Lionel Guntram-Solksjaer, Terry McInlay-Horroh, Jonathan Anselm-Venetianer, Michelle Thanh-Walter, John Aristarchos-McAdams, Terry Kristin-Beringer, Leona Lidija-Askes and Michael Gisse-Scheniders - the ten players in question were furious that the team would get away with it.
Joseph Sun-Hyun, the team's president, refused to comment on the subject, instead stating that Eastern Sunrisian football was on the up, yet they were missing it, something bound to change now.
So of course, Yo Hibiki was the one to ask about now.

He laughed.
"So what?" Yo scorned. "Mister Sun-Hyun knows well what the football world is. If he went after some of the players I picked for the national team, then good on him!"
"Did you win anything from this?" a journalist asked. Another laugh.
"Please. I'm a Hibiki. We don't take money from something we didn't build."
He smiled, revealing his shining blue eye.
"Besides, if I'm not mistaken, you all wanted competitive Sunrise Islands teams."
He pointed up, thinking.
"If I'm not mistaken, my brother's wife didn't bother with that, yet managed to get them to a Top Four finish. My cousin tried to abide to your requests, failed to get out of the group round."
The journalists nodded.
"So, you got both a team that could do well and a team that plays at the top level. If those ten can't take the heat, send them to Futurnia for all I care."

Remarkably, the first out of those ten was on the move the day after that.
Terry McInlay-Horroh joined Connery Sport out of Midlothian Heart...
Futurnia.

ASK Landsmark is one of the two army clubs. It got founded in 1942 as a breakaway from CASK Thorsborg when the Thorsborg team could not hold all the footballers of the Army team anymore. The team wanted to send some young talent over to ASK in order to have them play high-level football and take them back to CASK in time, when they were ready for the big tasks of defending the glory of the People's Army. As both teams belong to the same institution and all CASK and ASK teams were - and still officially are - soldiers, the two teams could freely transfer between each other. As there was no such thing as a player's contract in Savojarna until the 1990's professionalisation program, there were officially also no transfers and
no rules governing them. Due to this free transferring of players, Landsmark was a fairly irrelevant team in most of its history. It managed an upset in the 1974 Cup, when
CASK lost early on and then gave some players back to Landsmark for the cup matches. In the final, they were reinforced with five players that played for CASK in the Championship and beat Savojars Vinge Virkaja with 3-1. This cup victory led to the first institution of transfer rules, stating that a player must play at least three championship games for a team to be eligible for a cup match if he had played for another team in the same season. In the 1980s, there were further restrictions imposed on the ASK-CASK duo, when the SSA de facto banned transfers during the season entirely and regulated that players may only play for one team per season. This was the golden era of ASK Landsmark due to CASK having a very experienced and still successful team, meaning that they left a lot of the talent they accumulated with Landsmark. The late 1980s were the time of the big battles between ASKL and CASK, with the Landsmark team winning the 1986 and 1988 championship as well as back-to-back cups in 1987 and 1988. After the team dissolved in the years after, new talent came along and ASK managed to hold on to some members of the 1988 "golden team", leading to another championship in 1992.

In 1993, the league started its path towards professionalisation with the introduction of player-specific contracts. Before that, players were relatively free in choosing their club and only the players were responsible if they broke regulations. However, with the 1993 reform there were responsibilities and new rights on both sides, and Landsmark used that power to hold onto its players vis-a-vis CASK. When the Thorsborg team wanted to get then-captain Johan Nyström from ASK in 1994, the Landsmarker rejected the offer and insisted on the existing three-year contract of Nyström. This decision proved to be a very important one, as the team could be rebuilt around him after CASK taking out most of the talent before the 1993 season. Nyström led the league in scoring in 1995, when ASK won their fourth cup, and in 1996 when they followed up with the fourth Championship. After Nyström's contract had run out, he transferred to CASK, where he could not meet the expectations in a different system and was given back to ASK in 1998. A year later, he again topped the league in goals and led ASKL to their fifth, and until now last, championship. When the SSA announced the decision to professionalise the league in 2015, they mandated ASK and CASK to become fully separated entities. This gives ASK a new level of planning ability that the Landsmarker want to capitalise on finally. They hired the "tactical genius" Daniel Fannemel and tried to build a team around the experienced defensive midfielder Christer Haglund and young NT striker Dominik Ryberg.

Traditionally, ASK Landsmark was said to play a defensive, tactical game that was supposed to counter-balance the problems arising from constant loss of their players to the bigger neighbour and brother team. The less-talented ASK did often win games 0-1, or play to goalless draws, and some of the most famous ASKL players were goalkeepers. However, since the uncoupling of ASK and CASK, this changed and since then, their styles ranged from skillful attacking in the Nyström era to defense and elements of kick-and-rush in the mid-2000s under coach Vladimir Andreyev. ASK has always understood itself as a development team and often fields one of the youngest squads of the league. This comes, of course, from their history of the development academy of Thorsborg. In this time, ASK had built up big resources in youth development such as its own football academy, one of the most modern training grounds of the nation in the late 80s, which has been renovated in 2010, and a reputation of the best address for young talents. Because ASK is formally a part of the military, young talents can only join the club with 16. For academy purposes, the team founded the civilian Academy Football Club Landsmark (AFKL) when the new training facility was built. For several years, this had been the only professionally run football academy of the country open to players from age 10 and therefore was the favourite of all young players aged 10-16. A large portion of today's national team had gone through AFKL's training regime as children and almost all Savojar football academies included know-how from AFKL. Similarly, all ASK coaches since 1993 with the exceptions of Gustav Ljungberg (2004-2006) and Daniel Fannemel (2015-now) have come from AFKL, whose top teams are used for testing prospective professional ASK coaches.

ASK's stadium is the Stadion General Björkman, originally built in 1977 as a multi-purpose community stadium. Before that, the club had played at the People's Army Ground on military soil, next to the Landsmark Army Base. The stadium is still in use for training and youth or reserve matches. The Stadion General Björkman (shortly called "Axel" after the General's first name) originally was open to public to exercise and train whenever it wasn't used by sports clubs and had only 8'000 seats when built. After the first championship in 1986, the arena got new stands, expanding its capacity to 12'500. In 1989, the stadium was closed off for the public, but still accessible to Landsmark sports clubs. It also got another expansion to 14'000 seats. As the league got more professionalised, a complete second ring of stands was built and all the stands received a roof in 1996, giving the stadium a new capacity of 29'000. In 2006, the full professionalisation got discussed first and the old building was seen as instable. Therefore, the authorities decided to almost entirely rebuild the stadium in the following season, which ASK played on the People's Army Ground again. In September 2008, the new Stadion General Björkman was opened. The old stands were renovated to improve comfort, the athletics track was reduced to six lanes as it was barely used anymore for high-level competitions and the new space was used to enhance capacity to 34'000 seats, later reduced again due to conversion to an all-seater following riots in the 2010 ASK-CASK cup derby. The fans at the Axel are known for being very loud and using a lot of pyrotechnics, which the authorities often tolerate to a certain extent. Violence is rare except for ASK-CASK derbies, which are always expected to heat up and seen as potentially the most risky game of the season. Especially at the Axel, where there is only one way of getting to the stadium from parking spaces and public transport, the police usually uses large riot-control contingents. But apart from this derby, bad things are rare in Landsmark and the fans are praised throughout the country for their athmosphere.

CASK THORSBORG

LOGO:

Founded: 16. 4. 1916
Affiliation: People's Army of Savojarna
City: Thorsborg, VH
Stadium: Stadion General Nordberg (built 1994)
Capacity: 50'700
Number of titles (Amateur): 22
Number of titles (Professional): 0
Number of cup titles: 8
SFS I ranking: 1. (MD 10/38)
Coach: Roman Varyshnin
Captain: Petteri Hytönen
CASK Thorsborg is one of the oldest still existing football clubs in Savojarna. It was founded very soon after the victory of the people of Savojarna in the Savojar Communist Revolution of 1915. In 1916, the People's Army formed a team to play in a tournament against the other army branches to celebrate the start of the revolution one year earlier, a tournament that led to the foundation of CASK, Torpedo and Admiral as well as to the now second-tier officer's team of Spartak Sjoedrhavn. CASK had the biggest football tradition as it was a popular way to pass time on infantry bases, and won its first match over the team of the Pawlograd Naval Base (today's FK Torpedo Pawlograd) with 8-2. However, after another stunning 5-0 victory over Admiral, they'd lose the final match against Spartak dramatically with 4-5 after having been ahead 3-0 at the break. Many CASK fans will until today claim that the Spartak match was fixed to spare the officers making up Spartak Sjoedrhavn the shame of losing against a team of low-ranked infantry soldiers, supported by the clear lead that the team had held at the break.
Until the 1930s, CASK had moved from entertainment for soldiers on their free time to a full-on football club. They were one of the few teams able to offer their players a semiprofessional life and therefore attracted the biggest talents of the nation, resulting in the first title in 1925. Furthermore, CASK benefitted from the Savojar conscription laws when every young man received army training. When Stefan Rydberg became the head of the Army in 1927, he made football a part of the recruitment procedure to push the best talents into the CASK team as he saw great prestige in winning the League established in 1922. This was also fuelled by his personal rivalry with Navy Captain Mikael Pettersson, who implemented similar procedures in Storevik to claim bragging rights against Rydberg. In the history of Savojar football, the 1930s are known as a golden era thanks to the epic duels of Admiral and CASK, often with the better end for the Army club. In those times, it was often said that Admiral will win their matches, but CASK will win the league. From 1929 to 1936, CASK won five titles over Admiral's two, with the police team of Dynamo Sjoedrhavn being able to snatch the 1934 title. In the same time, CASK also won the cup twice. The 1935 cup final is often said to be the biggest game in Savojarna's history. CASK, led by star striker Bengt Saevarsson, and Admiral, led by goalkeeper Sven Lund, faced each other only three days after CASK could finish its overall fifth league title. Throughout the game, Lund could keep his opponent under control while Admiral took the lead after seventeen minutes. After the break, a frustrated Saevarsson collided with the goalkeeper after a corner kick, and until today Admiral fans claim that he had the intent of injuring Sven Lund. Following the incident, Järman scored the equalizer on the same play. Saevarsson scored two more goals against a visibly less agile Sven Lund and the game ended with a 4-2 for CASK, making them the first team to ever win a Savojar Double. The game was also one of the hardest ever played, with a total of three players sent off, and fuels the rivalry of the two teams until today.

After other teams had caught up in the late 1930s, CASK got another boost after the Army decided to establish ASK Landsmark as a development team for Thorsborg. In the late 1940s and the 1950s, CASK could effectively work with twice as much talent as other teams, with the exception of Dynamo and the Admiral/Torpedo duo. However, these other two-team clubs were notoriously biased against their mainland branch, which had quickly led to fierce rivalry between the two and almost complete separation in the case of Admiral/Torpedo. This meant that
CASK was the only team that could use its two squads with maximum efficiency and built a dynasty that brought home three cups and nine championships from 1944 to 1957. However, after
that, this nicknamed "Golden Dynasty" fell apart with the retirement of club legends such as Artyom Revalov, the first Russian player to make the CASK team; legendary goalkeeper Ingemar Lundqvist; and Edvard Jacobsson, headcoach for 24 years, who was known for his brutal training regime. The club stayed among Savojarna's best, but could not dominate the likes of Aviator, Dynamo and Partisan anymore. The long draught of the 1960s was a new situation for the formerly dominant team, and it led to important restructuring of the club including new training facilities and a new stadium. After a long series of third and fourth places and an especially hurtful series of quarterfinal losses in the cup against weaker teams from 1964 to 1969, the team finally made it further again in the 70s. Going into the new decade, CASK got a new headcoach in Patrik Jensen, who had coached Partisan to two cups and a championship in the 60s, and built a young team around libero Petter Ullman and striker Johan Rasmussen. In Jensen's first season, he reached the cup final for the first time since 1955 and lost the league only two rounds
before the end. In 1972, the squad came back stronger and beat Dynamo Sjoedrhavn 4-2 in overtime for their first cup victory in 21 years. A year later, Jensen managed to win the 16th championship for CASK, with two more following in 1975 and 1977. In '78, the team almost won the Double for the fourth time, but dramatically lost the league in the last 12 minutes when Admiral scored three goals in Thorsborg to turn a 0-2 into a 3-2, allowing Partisan to win the Championship.

Going into the 1980s, CASK was by far record champion with a grand total of 18 championships. However, the new regulations regarding transfers forced them to give up their handling of ASK Landsmark as a talent reservoir and CASK's success dwindled. With Ullman and Rasmussen aging, and goalkeeper Joonas Halonen retiring after the 1978 cup title, the dynasty of the 70s was on its way out and there was no replacement in sight. While a rivalry with ASK developed and pulled the audience to the stadium, the absolute low of the club's history was reached in 1981 when the team was last of the league after a third of the season and lost the cup octofinals to then second-tier Traktor St. Andrei, resulting in the replacement of Jensen as coach. The new team was formed by existing talent and players from ASK, and the club made great progress in improving their own talent's play. Until the later 1980s, the team formed at the beginning of the decade had worked together so well that they barely required new players from Landsmark, leading to the great Intra Army Rivalry of the late 1980s. 1986-1989, the two teams managed to win two Championships each, leading to Thorsborg receiving their second star for the 20th league title. They added their eighth Cup in 1993 with a very young and promising team, but were further hurt by losing their special status. In 1994, the team replaced their ground with the Stadion General Nordberg, named after the leader of the Revolution Army Anders Nordberg. It is a modern stadium with 50'700 places, 8'400 of them standing. The ground's inaugurational 1994/95 season ended with a rather surprising 21st title despite the Thorsborger not being in great shape leading up to the season, but apparently inspired by their new home. Since then, their success has largely been gone, but the team mostly stuck around the top and typically finished around third to fifth. Exceptions had been the 2004 season, when they led the league most of the season and lost the top spot four rounds before the end, never getting it back; and the 2007 season when they - again, rather surprisingly - won their so far last Championship.

Thorsborg is famous for its special athmosphere derived from the city being split in three between CASK, Technik and Energie. With Energie being relegated in 2009, the split cooled down a bit, but it is still very much alive and fuelled through the three clubs also having excellent hockey teams. This means that the stadium is often very loud due to being filled with large fan groups from both teams. Additionally, CASK is almost universally disliked for their special status until the 1980s when they could conscript players out of other team's hands almost at their will. This leads to CASK's schedule being filled with various rivalries, from the city derbies to the matches against ASKL - unfortunately often ending in violence - to the historic CASK - Admiral rivalry. CASKT ultras somewhat have a reputation for being hot-blooded, probably from the many high intensity games they play. This has led to spontaneous riots in the streets after past matches if the CASK fans felt cheated by the opponent or the referee, but also to displays of amazingly passionate choreographies. A special feature of the stadium is the Nordberg Cannon, a replica of a 1915 revolutionary piece of artillery that is fired whenever Thorsborg scores.

It's a family tradition.
Those words kept ringing on Jéanne Marie's head.
Jéanne Marie Hibiki had been adopted into the family ten years ago.
The family's patriarch had insisted that Jéanne was adopted in order to create some sort of sibling rivalry with Sato.
Clearly, he wasn't of his full senses, passing away two days after the whole process was done.
Still, Jéanne Marie was a Hibiki now, which while meaning the only thing she had left was a family that adopted her for no apparent reason, it still was a pretty rich family.
The girl took an interest to running around the streets of Tokyoto, looking for people to play with, being mostly a nuisance to the family's butler, total opposite of Sato.
Naturally, she also stuck out like a sore thumb, being a blonde, young Caucasian girl in the middle of a family that was decidedly from Tokyoto: as in they liked their pro wrestling, their baseball, their Pokémon battling and speaking Japanese was the rule at their place.
She did manage to get a good grasp out of the family's tradition and they never treated her poorly in any way, but she always did feel that she didn't belong.

Business.
Jéanne Marie wasn't a fan of doing business.
She was unlike her entire family on that.
In fact, she was the only Hibiki member that was entirely human, vocally refusing any sort of tech inside or as a part of her body.
She clearly wasn't a Hibiki.
The family decided to send her to Southeastern Sunrise Islands.
The Land of the Sweetest Dream.
They wanted her to realize the world wasn't easy.
Clearly, they needed to do their homework on that, Jéanne Marie was at the nicest Sunrise Islands nation.
With a monthly allowance, Jéanne was able to live well at Marchenoir, where she was often a regular of some of the cupcake shops, fine restaurants, museums and overall great stuff.
Some friends invited her to watch a game including the lower league side Marchenoir Young Boys, but she politely refused.
Football wasn't her sort of stuff.

A week later?
Jéanne sighed at a conference for the Southeastern Sunrise Islands national team.
"It's a family tradition." She said.

Black Flag

Chapter One

Somewhere west of Riuwiee, the capital of Abanhfleft, there was a budding gang that was raising hell in the country like no other. A gang that fought with the valiance of a real military, that was completely fearless and that would win battles against larger gangs by virtue of fighting to the last man. It was a gang that was multinational, both Anglatian and Fleftic, that was united not by nation but by the black flag that they fought under. They were affiliated with the Crows of Otavice, but they were their own force, one that was located in a completely different territory and that had its own culture.

They’d started as a gang to farm members for the Crows, but had grown into one to be reckoned with because of the power they’d gained through ruthlessness. They were bikers, but they weren’t a biker gang. Drug dealers, but they weren’t a cartel. Smugglers, but not a smuggling ring. This gang wasn’t one that enjoyed being labeled. They were many things, and they were the Corsairs, united under the black flag and out in force in Riuwiee, as they gathered around their main clubhouse for what was supposed to be an important meeting.

The clubhouse was an impressive building that had titanium plating boarding up the windows, and a pair of main doors that were reinforced with the same metal. The whole area was surrounded by a tall black metal fence, with a gate at the end of the road that led up to the building. The building itself was made of some kind of metal, and the parking lot was filled with motorcycles and with armored cars and vans and even a few military looking armored trucks. In the parking lot, there was a flagpole that flew the three flags that represented the group. The Anglatian one, the Fleftic one, and the solid black one that represented the Corsairs themselves. There were two more black banners hanging from the building between the windows and doors, and above the door there hung a metal sign that displayed the name of the place in all capital letters: ‘THE RAIDER COVE’.

On a day like this when there was an important meeting, the parking lot was full. The gates were opened, and there were plenty of people milling around the lot, all of them dressed in black. Some of them wore leather jackets that had a logo on the back displaying a laughing skull, and text above that logo that read ‘CORSAIRS’. Others simply wore black shirts and hoodies, and some had hoodies with the laughing skull patch on the shoulder or the chest. There were twenty something people, and those were just the ones in the parking lot.

Inside the Cove, there were plenty more. The interior of the building was wide and spacious, with a bar and plenty of seating and a large lounge, along with a stairwell in the back that led up to the second, third, and fourth floors. It was a place that had been recently renovated, with hardwood floors and all new furniture, with the exception of the well weathered bar counter and the shelves behind it. Around that bar was where the high ranking members were gathering and making conversation while they waited for the top leaders to arrive to give them the go ahead on what they were planning.

Those high ranking members knew how far the Corsairs had come. Some of them had been there when the gang recruited its first class of members, stealing from rival gangs. Now, they were hundreds strong, and allies with the mighty Crows. It was because of the help of the Crows that they had been able to expand into Abanhfleft early on in their history, which had helped them grow equally in both of their countries. It was rare to see a gang like that, but because they’d seized their chance early on to be multi-national, they could consider both Abanhfleft and Anglatia to be their homeland.

“How many do we have here today?” asked Mateo Vidal, the Anglatian from Bathgate that was the number three man in the pecking order of the five leaders. He was wearing a black biker jacket, with four star patches on the chest indicating his high position.

“I believe the number is something close to one hundred and twenty five,” answered Scout Jonsdottir, the head of the female wing of the gang and a native of Rastaka, Upper Valeria. “This is the largest meeting we've held, at least in Riuwiee. And we still have the other group coming, so we can add six or seven more to the count. Impressive, isn't it?”

“I never thought we'd get this big,” Mateo said, watching the doors as they opened up and someone else wearing black stepped in. Except, this person had an Orthodox cross patch on their jacket, showing that they weren't actually a member. They were from the Crows, and they were one of the ones that Mateo and Scout were waiting for. “Ah, here's one of the others. The Crows envoy that Slobo sent.”

He waved to the young man, who approached the bar counter and sat down at one of the stools. He was different than the others here. A bit more clean shaven, with his hair cut low. There was also a Slavic look to him, indicating that he was from Crows country and not from around here. “Hello, brothers,” he said, giving Mateo a firm handshake after approaching. “I hope I'm not late. I was sent by Slobo to act as the official go-between for our two groups. He said you guys need someone to take stock of everything so we can see how much supplies we’ll be sending you. Well, that someone is me.”

“Perfect,” replied Mateo, nodding. “You can stay around my place while you're here, if you want. My name’s Mateo Vidal, I'm the third man in the ruling five. My female friend is Scout, and if there's five leaders, she's the sixth most powerful person here. We're still waiting on the other four leaders to show up.”

The man looked between the two like he was memorizing their looks. That wasn't a hard task. Mateo was memorable for his long, straight hair that went down to below his shoulders. Scout, on the other hand, had her hair cut down short, and could be recognized by the tattoos on her lower arms and on her neck. Possibly the most notable one was a wide open eye, on the left side of her neck, and the laughing skull on the other side. “Right… My name is Darko Jelacic. I came here all the way from Wolfe, and I'm sure it's not hard to tell I was born in the City of Devils, Otavice.”

“Of course. The accent is a bit of a giveaway,” remarked Scout. “You'll fit in just fine around here, as long as you're used to things being more rough than they are in Otavice, believe it or not. We've got more bikers around here than simple drug dealers and smugglers… The type of men who have an appetite for chaos. It's why we've survived for this long behind foreign lines.”

“I think I can handle chaos,” chuckled Darko. “The higher up you go in the Crows, the more chaos and backbiting there is. I think I've seen enough of it to last a lifetime, to be honest.”

“We’ll see about that. The difference between us and them is that they're usually working towards some major goal and destroying anyone who gets in their way… Us, on the other hand? We’re fine causing destruction for the hell of it. It's not all about money, as they say. I think you'll find that while the Crows are our allies, we aren't a carbon copy of them.”

Before Darko could reply, the doors swung open again and another group entered, led by three men. The first one was the highest ranking leader, Jose Sorondo. The young Fleftic born gangster was the one to create the Corsairs by subjugating and absorbing several local gangs, and had also been the one who was good enough at diplomacy to get the help of the Crows. He'd convinced them that they had a mutual enemy, the Huesca Cartel. Together, they would have enough firepower and turf to give them a run for their money in their own country. Sorondo wasn't necessarily the most physically imposing person, standing at about average height and not being particularly athletic. But there was something about him that made him recognizable as someone important, who was to be listened to.

Next to him was Benton Singer, the biker from Bathgate who was the biggest leader in the Anglatian wing of the gang. If Jose had a regal air around him, but wasn't physically imposing, Singer was the opposite. He was tall, muscular, and was the type of man that most people would be afraid to run into in a dark alley. It would be forgivable to mistake him for an athlete or a military man, and while he didn't carry himself like a leader, anyone with good sense knew to listen to him if they wanted to remain in one piece.

The last member of the group was Arvin Navarro, the Fleftic biker who was likely the most recognizable face in the biking wing of the gang that operated in Riuwiee. He'd been born here, had grown up here, and knew the area inside out, including the landscape of the various criminal organizations. Arvin was the one responsible for most of the major plans, along with Mateo Vidal. If Benton and Jose served as the fists of the gang, Arvin and Mateo were the brains that told them where to strike.

“Here they are,” said Mateo, pointing out the new group to Darko. “That's Jose, a Benton, and Arvin. The rest of the ruling five. They're supposed to make an announcement that we've talked about before in some meetings… Or rather, a declaration. You'll see in a few minutes, I don't think Jose wants to keep everyone waiting for long.”

Jose indeed didn't want everyone to have to wait long to hear the announcement. “Alright, shut the fuck up and listen!” he shouted over all the noise, before climbing onto the bar counter to stand over everyone and everything in the clubhouse. “I have important news and I'm not going to repeat it if you miss it, so listen up! There will be time to party later. Right now, I need everyone's full attention.”

The crowd grew silent, and everyone turned towards the bar. Jose waited a few moments, and then spoke. “Today, we are officially going to war. We've engaged other gangs in small turf clashes, but this is different. We're not fighting over land this time, and we're not fighting a small battle for prestige. No, we’re actually going to war, against the Huesca Cartel. We both want the same turf and as you know, our allies are also involved in a full scale war against them. It’s time to stop letting them push us around in Riuwiee. This city is ours, and starting now, we’re going to prove that to them. We may be smaller but we fight fiercer than they do, and that’s what matters. From now on, Riuwiee is a Corsairs city. Of course, we’re going to have to prove it if we want to be taken seriously.”

There were some cheers from the crowd before they went silent again so Jose could continue. “This may be a new war, but we’re coming out hot and striking them where it’s going to hurt them, near their leadership. Everyone here knows by now that Amelia Pena is the big leader in their gang. Are we going to continue to allow them to encroach on our territory, and continue to get pushed around by a rival led by a fucking woman? No. We’re going to send a message to her right away, that our gang is not to be fucked with for much longer… That this is our city and that these streets belong to us. We’re going to show that we can strike anywhere, any time, at anyone that we want.”

There was another cheer, and the energy in the building changed. The Corsairs were ready to go out for blood. “Our scouting has revealed that much of the breaches in Crows territory in Anglatia by the Huesca Cartel have been organized by Maricel Ocampo, a friend of Pena who specializes in management and organization. Because of her, the Huescas now have a presence in the territory of our allies, and they’ve turned a simple grudge into a real feud between three gangs. Well, we’re going to accomplish two things with one act. We’re going to pay Maricel a visit, both to remove her from this turf war for good and to make an example out of her and send a message directly to Pena.”

Jose stepped down from the counter, but wasn’t done. “Remember, everyone. We’re at war now. The Huesca Cartel should be treated as our number one enemy. No more ducking from conflict with them. We’re going to take them on head on from now on. Now, it’s time to make the first move in this war. Benton, Scout, Isko, Rizal, come on. You asked for more action, and now you get it. Bring your bikes, too. I want to make sure that everyone knows who to blame this on.”

And with that, the war between the Corsairs and the Huesca Cartel had begun. In a way, it was just an extension of the war between the Crows and Huescas, but now, there were gangsters from both countries involved fighting on each other’s turf. The war was about to get much, much bloodier from that development.

=====

On what should have been a calm evening in the suburbs of Riuwiee, the attention of the whole neighborhood turned towards the group of motorcycles that were roaring through the streets and making a ruckus. They were no ordinary motorcycles, these were customized ones that were either barely street legal or not street legal at all, and the one in the front of the convoy displayed the black flag of the Corsairs from the back. All four of them were speeding, and they were followed by a black van that looked like it had been reinforced with military armor. It was clear to the people of the neighborhood that something was up; something dangerous.

After roaring around the block and finding the right house, the motorcycles and van suddenly stopped, and onlookers were able to get a better look at the riders. They all wore black leather biker jackets, with a laughing skull on the back. The top rockers said ‘CORSAIRS’, while the bottom rockers used the same font and said ‘RIUWIEE’, representing the branch of the gang that the members were a part of. The exception was the woman who was with the group. The bottom rocker of her jacket said ‘RASTAKA’, because she represented the Upper Valerian wing.

A few more men exited the van, and the main group went inside the back of the van and came out with weapons. Not the kind of weapons you’d expect to see on the streets, but shotguns and a few rifles. The kind of weapons you would expect to see on the battlefield in a warzone. The leader of the group, Jose, also picked up a loudspeaker and walked back to the bikes that were outside the driveway. “This is the Corsairs, open the fuck up!” he shouted through the speaker. “We know you’re in there, Maricel! Open up and surrender yourself, or fight and die. Your choice. You have one minute to decide.”

“One minute is too much time, in my opinion,” complained Scout, loading her shotgun and adjusting the helmet that was still on her head. “Let’s bust in now, you never know how many of them are in there, ready for a fight-”

As soon as Scout said that, one of the windows opened up and someone pointed a rifle at them. The person shot one of the men that had gotten out of the van, but Scout reacted quickly and blasted a shot through the window to drop their attacker. “Told you,” she quipped, pumping the shotgun and surveying the area for more hostiles as the others raised their weapons.

Isko Riviero, the weapons specialist, switched the safety off of his assault rifle and charged towards the door, reaching to the utility belt he wore to find an explosive charge that he quickly placed onto the lock. “You best stand back!” he shouted to the others, moving back from the porch and raising the rifle again. Someone else was standing by the window now, ready to fire with a rifle if Isko didn’t aim quickly and fire first.

“I got him, you focus on the door,” said Benton, carefully aiming his rifle and using the grenade launcher attachment to fire a grenade through the glass of the window. The bang came seconds later, and Benton and the others couldn’t tell if the person had ran in time. “Let’s take this lock out and move in, before any of their friends decide to show up…”

“Got it,” nodded Isko, lowering his rifle long enough to reach for the detonator for the charge. He pressed the button and stepped back, as a small explosion shattered the metal lock and made the door swing open. Another man was waiting for them behind the door, but Scout quickly shot him through the chest with her shotgun, as the rest of the group swarmed towards the porch. “How many of these fuckers are in here?”

“This place is supposed to be a hangout for them, according to recon,” said Jose. “Looks like we caught them on a day when a lot of em were in the house. There shouldn’t be many more, though. This place isn’t that big, after all. Benton, Rizal, I want you to head around the back. Make sure that our target doesn’t slip out through that door and get away. I’m surprised we haven’t seen Maricel yet.”

“Aye, she’s probably hiding upstairs,” said Benton, but he nodded and ran around towards the other side of the house along with Rizal. “What happens if I find her around back? Are we taking her alive or what?”

“Depends on how much she resists. We could keep her around for a bit and see how far the Huescas will go to get her back-”

“Wait a minute, looks like we found her,” shouted Scout, making a quick decision and deciding to pursue the person that had just run out the front door and towards a car that was parked in the driveway. They all recognized the woman as the person they were after, Maricel, and Scout had reacted quickly enough to shove her up against the car before she could unlock it. “Not so fast… We tried to warn you not to run.”

The two were involved in a grappling match, but Scout was taller and had better positioning. She had Maricel pinned to the car door, and Jose ran over to help. “I’ve got her, I don’t need any help,” Scout said, twisting her arms behind her back and holding the other woman in place. “See? Now, what the hell are we going to do? You said we were going to use her to make a point to Pena?”

Jose nodded, a wicked grin spreading across his face. “I’m actually planning on letting our friends from Otavice make a point… One to the tune of crucifixion.”

The Aspatrian Change

Part One

Two weeks from now, Parodys as we know it will be forever different. The dictating regime will be overthrown by rebels. This group, soon to be known as the Aspatrians, will be formed by escapees of the Parodysian foreigner camps, which were heavily comprised of Lunigans and, on occasion, Mercredites. For decades, the surperior have hidden the camps along with their country in general to protect themselves from foreign attackers. Flocks of tourists are often deceived by the glamorous architecture to even realize the truth. But when they did, they were sent to the camps in the south, where they surely would perish.

One fateful day, that being today, 5 Lunigan prisoners, by the names of Kula, Kai, Wei, Nai'a, and Dean, were lucky enough to escape Camp Aspatris, one of the most vile and cruel camps of them all. Dean, the soon leader of the escapees, was later re-captured by the government, as will Kula and Wei. Being sent to separate camps, the trio secretly encouraged heaps of their fellow imprisoned to unite and fight against their wardens. During one of the riots, Kula was shot in the leg four times, crippling it with ease. Luckily for him and his newfound friends, they were met by Dean's group, whom had successfully freed themselves earlier that day, and trampled the last of the camp's remaining staff.

Kai and Nai'a, the only two Aspatrians to have fled successfully from the camp, endured several encounters with officials before reaching their destination, the Parodysian Multiversal Airport. Having had to disguise themselves as the locals, they were granted flights back to Islana Lunigo, where they'll surely spread word of Aspatris. News stations would flash the red line at the bottom of the screens, reading "breaking news" as they uncover the nation's dark truth. When they returned to Parodys with an army, they were soon met by a dictator-led firing squad.

During the exchange at the airport, Kai had been shot and killed in combat. The Lunigans surrendered, and Nai'a was brought back to Aspatris. When the truck holding her arrived at the site, her eyes widened to see no camp, but a large pile of ashes on the ground.

The Pridnestrovian Invasion of Nordskania, Part Fourteen

Kotelnirovo, Southern Nordskania
2 miles east of Puloko, “Soviet Republic of Nordskania”
Pridnestrovian-occupied territory

It was New Year’s Eve. Months had passed since the initial Pridnestrovian landings in Nordskania in their bid to “restore order” to their old ally, and it was months since the Empire of Anglatia threw in their lot with their puppets in the north and the southern breakaway states in their bid to bring Pridnestrovia to its knees. The Rose Rebellions which had instigated Pridnestrovia’s invasion have long since been eradicated, with only the original Blue Roses still going strong as the so-called “State of Nordskania” led by Darya Zharkov and supported wholly by Anglatia and the anarchists of the so-called “Community of Revolutionary Nordskania”. The old Nordskanian Democratic People’s Republic, led by the old dictator of Nordskania Vasily Zharkov had abandoned socialism and communism in favor of getting help and assistance from Emperor Colden of Anglatia and his Mountain Pact, leaving Pridnestrovia with no choice but to establish a regime of their own. The Nordskanian People’s Army led by Marshal Pavel Andriychuk had carved out their own slice of Nordskania centered around the city of Puloko, but because they were fighting on three fronts at the same time, their self-declared “Soviet Republic of Nordskania” was rapidly collapsing under the onslaught of the Pridnestrovian Army, who was the entity most able to take advantage of the People’s Army’s disorganization. After a three-month long offensive, the Pridnestrovians were now knocking on the gates of Puloko, and with repeated offers to surrender being rebuffed by Andriychuk and his men, the Army was preparing to move into Puloko with the three divisions they had brought to bear against the remnants of Andriychuk’s force.

The people of Pridnestrovia were celebrating the coming of the New Year with the usual fireworks and noisemakers. The people of Anglatia and the northern anarchists of so-called Revolutionary Nordskania were doing much the same thing. The city of Puloko, on the other hand, was very quiet with regards to the rest of the land, being as they were the ones at most risk of falling to the Pridnestrovians at the moment. The Pridnestrovians now occupied a large chunk of territory on Nordskania, and they were poised to add Puloko to that territory unless Andriychuk could inspire his men to make a resolute last stand against the invaders and cost them for every inch of land they took, but that really didn’t look too likely at the moment. What was more likely to happen was that the Anglatians or the anarchists would break through the Pridnestrovian lines and wreak havoc somewhere which would divert the Pridnestrovians’ attention so that Puloko and the so-called “Soviet Republic” would live to fight another day. But, be that as it may, even that possibility didn’t look very likely to happen anytime soon, and with Pridnestrovia preparing a New Year’s Eve surprise for the citizens and defenders of Puloko, there really looked to be no help forthcoming for the so-called “Soviet Republic of Nordskania.”

The 66th Guards Division, the 247th Guards Armored Division, and the 50th Motor Rifle Division were camped in and around the hamlet of Kotelnirovo, just two miles east of the city of Puloko. It was the last significant settlement between the Pridnestrovian invaders and the capital of the so-called “Soviet Republic of Nordskania,” and the most recent reconnaissance revealed that the People’s Army had opted to pull back to Puloko and hide themselves among the buildings and rubble and challenge the Pridnestrovians in an urban conflict. The Pridnestrovians had become experts at urban warfare at very heavy cost during their Great Patriotic War against neighbors Szavoda and were more than prepared to school the Nordskanian People’s Army in that particular art of war, but they were also preparing something else to swing the advantage to the Pridnestrovian invaders even more.

Despite the Anglatians’ best efforts, Pridnestrovia still held dominion over the skies of southern Nordskania. Repeated attempts to reinforce their division already on the ground in Sopova had been met by waves upon waves of Pridnestrovian Air Force aircraft, forcing the imperialists to route the majority of their forces by sea and through Turbayov to the frontlines. Another Anglatian division was already reportedly in Ryakova assisting Vasily Zharkov and his loyalists, but for the moment, the Anglatians had been pinned back to their puppets’ respective territories, and Pridnestrovia controlled the skies of southern Nordskania.

And that was what was allowing the coming air raid to commence in the first place. Without their air superiority, Pridnestrovia wouldn’t be able to keep up their missile raids against their enemies, especially those against the northern anarchists and their fascist allies in the Red Strip. Oh, the Anglatians tried very hard to drive the Pridnestrovian Air Force away from the skies, but effective use of combined army and air force assets had allowed the invaders to hold back the imperialists for the time being. Still, it was only a matter of time before the Anglatian Air Force began taking the threat of the Pridnestrovian Air Force seriously and actively work to knock them out of the skies instead of just relying on their ground-based anti-aircraft units and assets to do the job for them, but for the time being, Pridnestrovia controlled the airspace above southern Nordskania, and that was more than enough for the purposes of the coming mission.

Twelve Tupolev Tu-160 bombers, roughly equivalent in looks and capabilities to the American B-1 Lancer aircraft, were lined up and waiting to take off from the airstrip beside the Serpukhov-6 facility, currently the Pridnestrovian invasion’s headquarters. Each bomber was carrying within its bomb bay a rotary launcher capable of holding twelve cruise missiles of varying capabilities and specialties. Right now, all bombers were carrying a land-attack version of the venerable “Starscream” cruise missile as their targets were all in the city of Puloko. They had been on this kind of bombing mission before, hitting targets in Ryakova, Sopova, and even the northern cities like Turbayov and Masloka. Of course, not all of them made it back when they tried to hit Turbayov and Masloka due to the anarchists’ thick AA screen, but nevertheless they took comfort in the fact that they were able to do some damage to the north’s infrastructure despite their own losses. Right now, coming up against Puloko, the bomber crews were all confident that they would all be coming home safe and sound.

Colonel of Aviation Abdullah Nestorovich Haruyenko was the commander of the 106th Bomber Wing, the Pridnestrovian Air Force unit tasked with bombing Puloko in preparation for the three Army divisions massed in Kotelnirovo. Hailing from the Antakya Socialist State and of Turkish descent, Colonel Haruyenko was not the typical flyboy type. Everything about him was short and squat, from his face to his body to even his walk, and yet he had risen through the ranks of the Air Force to become basically one of the most powerful men in the Armed Forces. The 106th Bomber Wing controlled over thirty Tu-160 bombers, just about half of Pridnestrovia’s strategic bomber force (strategic meaning capable of carrying and launching nuclear weapons, in this case Starscream cruise missiles with nuclear warheads), and Haruyenko was also the commander of the current bombing mission’s lead aircraft. In the cockpit of the Tu-160 with him were his copilot Lieutenant Colonel of Aviation Jamal Aliyevich Lamitalovsky, his navigator Junior Lieutenant of Aviation Nikita Ivanovich Shakov, and his bombardier Sergeant of Aviation Georgiy Arkhipovich Islenin. To fly with the best, the airmen of the Pridnestrovian Air Force had to be the best at their jobs, and that was exactly what Haruyenko had in his cockpit tonight. Lamitalovsky was an excellent pilot, capable of flying the big Tu-160 bomber like a MiG fighter; Shakov was an expert navigator who famously quipped (among his peers, of course) that he only needed a map to fly a plane with no windows through the Krav Mountains running down the spine of Pridnestrovia; Islenin had a magical and mysterious touch with launching their payloads, and he needed only rudimentary descriptions and details on a target to send a missile three times his size into a specific window on a specific floor or any other specific place on any specific target. As for Haruyenko, he considered himself a competent enough commander, and he certainly counted himself lucky to have such a fine crew under his command.

“Serpukhov Tower, this is Vulture Leader,” Haruyenko said to the air traffic controller. “We are standing by and ready for takeoff.”

“Copy that, Vulture Leader. Permission is granted. You are cleared for takeoff.”

“Vulture Leader is cleared for takeoff, spasibo, Serpukhov.” Turning to Lamitalovsky, Haruyenko said, “Let’s get ourselves up in the air in time for the New Year, Jamal Aliyevich.”

“I heard you loud and clear, Abdullah Nestorovich,” Lamitalovsky replied as he placed his hands over the engine throttles on the central column. “Takeoff power set,” he said. “Standing by for afterburners.”

“Four greens,” Haruyenko called out, indicating the four green lights above the engine power gauges. “Fire the afterburners.” Lamitalovsky shoved the throttles further forward, and there was a marked increase in the bomber’s acceleration down the runway as the afterburners kicked in and added fuel to the exhaust from the bomber’s jet engines, adding even more thrust.

“180 knots,” Haruyenko called out. At the speed they were going, they were going to reach takeoff speed anytime soon. “V-1! Rotate!” Lamitalovsky hauled back hard on the control yoke to pull up the nose of the aircraft, and soon the Tu-160 was airborne. “Vulture Leader is airborne,” Haruyenko reported to the tower. “We are underway.”

The rest of Vulture Flight followed Vulture Leader into the air, and once they had assembled into three flights of four bombers, the Tupolevs formed up with their MiG escorts, they turned south towards Puloko. It was just a short flight for the bombers, fifteen minutes or so at just below the speed of sound, and submarines could have been used to bombard Puloko with missiles, but this bombing raid wasn’t about minimizing casualties. It was about showing the enemy how screwed they were.

“Five minutes to midnight, Comrade Colonel,” Sergeant Islenin, the bombardier, called out. The mission was set to such tight parameters that the passage of time was very much important to the success of the psychological aspect of the bombing raid.

“Very well, Georgiy Arkhipovich,” Haruyenko said. “You may commence firing when ready.”

“Launching payloads,” Islenin said. As the Tu-160 was a strategic bomber capable of launching nuclear weapons, it had been designed with the safeguards meant for strategic weapons in mind, and even though every Tu-160 in the skies of Nordskania right now were only carrying conventional weapons, the bomber still needed a launch key to open the bomb bay and lower the rotary missile launcher in preparation for firing the missiles. Islenin turned the key, which had been hanging alongside his identity disks on his neck, and he felt more than heard the whine of the hydraulic systems controlling the bomb bay doors as they opened up and exposed the bomb bay to the cold night air. More hydraulic whines indicated that the rotary launcher, carrying the twelve Starscream missiles that was the Tu-160’s payload, had been lowered into the slipstream.

“Uploading target coordinates,” Islenin called out. Being designed at the tail end of the Cold War, the Tu-160’s targeting computers were decidedly ancient in comparison to modern-day electronic systems (it could even be said that the system was primitive by late 1980s standards, the era in which they were made) but for its current purposes it was more than enough. The targeting systems on the Starscreams were little better (more or less early 2000s tech) but the data transfer was easily accomplished. Soon, every missile in the Tu-160 that was Vulture Leader was loaded with the coordinates of the targets (anti-aircraft and anti-tank missile systems and suspected bunkers scattered throughout Puloko) and ready to launch them.

“Permission to launch?” Islenin asked.

“Permission granted!” Haruyenko replied. Islenin turned the key once again, and a glass panel lifted up to reveal a flat red button. Islenin reached over and pushed the button. The Tu-160 physically recoiled as each Starscream missile burst out of its place in the rotary launcher with a huge column of smoke. Around them, the other bombers also launched their respective payloads, lighting up the night sky with the white contrails of the missiles as they cruised towards Puloko.

One minute before midnight, one minute before the arrival of the New Year, the first explosions lit up the skies of Puloko as the Starscream missiles reached their respective targets. Puloko arrived into the New Year ablaze as the results of a Pridnestrovian bombing mission. As the bombers in the air flew away from the scene of the bombings, the ground units, the three divisions of the Pridnestrovian invasion force massed against the so-called “Soviet Republic of Nordskania,” prepared to move into the city of their latest enemy.

Lex Talionis, Part Twenty-three

Barangay Kaluwalhatian
Riuwiee, Abanhfleft

The first sign that something was horribly wrong was the cordon of police cruisers blocking off the street from access to civilians.

Nothing good could ever come out of a cordon of police cruisers blocking off any street, especially when that street led up to one of the Huesca Cartel’s local headquarters and hangouts. Yet this wasn’t supposed to happen in the first place. Everyone in the Fleftic underworld understood the current situation now that President Rako Novoire’s war on drugs was on its fifth year: Conam was top dog all throughout Abanhfleft, the Huesca Cartel was the second-biggest gang in the country and called Riuwiee its home and headquarters, and everyone else would mind their own business and try not to get noticed too much by the government. In the old days, the immediate aftermath of the end of the Holy Catholic Revolution and the seven years of Makhdoum Be’s presidency, gangland massacres were a common sight as competing groups worked to carve out as much territory as they could from the remnants of post-revolution Abanhfleft, but once things went back to normal and Rako Novoire took up residence in the Presidential Palace, everyone in the underworld knew that they would have to lie low until Novoire’s successor came along, but that wasn’t to happen for two more years.

For the Huescas, only one group would have been brave and stupid enough to attack them on their own turf: the Crows of Anglatia. It had been months since both groups declared war on each other following a bizarre series of events which involved the Huescas faking the deaths of two girls and an internal coup d’état within the Crows. The war between the Crows and the Huescas had quieted down when the Crows had decided to go to Nordskania to assist their “allies” the Blue Roses and the Maslev Cartel, and the Huescas, most especially their leader Amelia Pena, had been content to sit back and let the Crows get shot to death by the Pridnestrovians, who had decided to invade the Nordskanian island once the Rose Rebellions got out of hand and the Pridnestrovians were stepping in to restore order to the place, or so the Pridnestrovians said. Amy had long since thought that the Crows had killed themselves acting as the Blue Roses’ meat shields, but, as this attack in Barangay Kaluwalhatian was about to prove, the Crows weren’t as dead as Amy and the Huescas would’ve thought.

Amy’s twin brother, Mateo Pena, was on his way to Barangay Kaluwalhatian to discuss logistical matters concerning the Huesca infiltration and invasion of Jugoskania with Maricel Ocampo, a close friend and associate and a mob boss within the Cartel in her own right when his car came upon the cordon of black-and-whites. The two men with him, Justin Mendoza and Nicolai Mendez, who were more trusted enforcers than actual bodyguards but would definitely put their lives on the line for Amy and Matt, immediately set to work finding out what had happened. While they were doing that, Matt decided to penetrate the cordon. The police, while knowing fully well who he was and what he was doing, made no move to stop him as they were already dealing with enough shit to stop a mob boss from getting close to the scene of the massacre of a vital part of his organization.

“It’s not good news what I’m getting from the locals, boss man,” Justin said as he and Nicolai followed Matt into the restricted area. “Around three o’clock this morning, the locals say they saw a bunch of bikers with outlandish bikes and some kind of armored van approaching our local clubhouse, and that was when shit got really serious. Some of the guys heard the bikers calling out for Maricel specifically, and then there was some kind of big shootout, and now here we are.”

“Bikers, huh?” Matt asked. “How come the Crows have got bikers doing their dirty work for them now? Maybe a whole lot of them did get killed over in Nordskania which is why they’re acting through third parties now. I mean, it has to be the Crows behind this. There’s nobody in Riuwiee mad enough to challenge us right here on our own turf.”

“Uh, don’t be so sure about that, boss man,” Justin said. “I mean, there’s this new biker gang making noise over in western Riuwiee, after all. They call themselves the Corsairs. They fancy themselves to be the lords of Riuwiee, and based on inside sources, they’ve been getting some goodies from Anglatia ever since they got founded. No points for guessing which Anglatians are behind all that.”

“I don’t care about any of that, man,” Nicolai said, speaking for the first time and with a bottled-up fury in his voice. “Those fucks better have not done anything to Maricel or else they’re all toast.” Maricel Ocampo was after all Nicolai Mendez’s sister. Their family was devoted accomplices of Guillermo Huesca and his clan, and it was inevitable that Nicolai and Maricel would get involved in the family business. Nicolai, being the big strong male, became a trusted enforcer working directly for Amy Pena, and Maricel, the smart and bookish female who had a degree in business administration and was also a certified public accountant, had become one of the cartel’s numerous “logistics experts,” as they were euphemistically called, and most recently she had been tasked with the job of infiltrating and invading the Crows’ homeland of Jugoskania, over in Anglatia.

The trio finally made it to the address of the clubhouse, and the sight that greeted them was one which would have turned the stomachs of lesser individuals. To seasoned criminal veterans like Matt, Justin, and Nicolai, though, this was nothing. Bodies were scattered throughout the lawns in front of the clubhouse, some Huesca and some biker but mostly Huesca. Little yellow plastic tag things were strewn all over the place alongside all the bullet casings and weapons which the two sides had used in their firefight outside the clubhouse. Crime scene technicians were running all over the place, taking photographs of the bodies, where they lay, what kind of weapons were near them, and overall trying to form a good overview of the scene.

But it wasn’t that which drew the eyes of the Huesca trio. Instead, it was the tall wooden cross planted in the middle of the clubhouse yard, surrounded at its foot by crime scene techs, which got their attention. A limp female form hung on the cross from large carpenters’ nails driven into her wrists and feet. Her battered and bruised body was caked with dried blood from her attempts to fight off her crucifiers. Yet it was the large tattoo of Our Lady of Guadalupe on her left thigh peeking out of the hemline of her short shorts which really got Nicolai’s attention. It was a tattoo with which he was painfully familiar.

All sense of purpose left Nicolai in an instant as he attempted to rush past the yellow crime scene tape and reach the cross. “No, no, no, no, no, no, Maricel, NO!” he shouted even as Matt and Justin made to lunge for him. Nicolai was a big strong man with the body and muscles to match, which was why it was a difficult task even for both Matt and Justin to restrain him.

“That’s my sister, you assholes!” Nicolai shouted to no one in particular even as he fought to extricate himself from Matt and Justin’s clutches. “Maricel!”

“We can’t do anything for her anymore, Nick,” Justin told his friend. He was easily the smallest and leanest among the three yet his compact frame belied a strength equal to that of Nicolai. “She’s gone, man. She’s moved on. She’s working for Huesca himself now, may they rest in peace.”

Nicolai finally stopped fighting, and instead he kneeled down on the sidewalk just outside the crime scene tape with hot and angry tears flowing unashamedly from his eyes. “They’re dead,” he muttered. “I’m gonna get the guys who did this. They’re gonna be sorry that they did this to her.”

“And you’re going to get to do that, bro,” Matt assured him. “We know who’s responsible for this. We know who’s behind this. The Crows and their Corsair allies just made a big mistake doing this on our own turf and making it personal. Now Amy’s really going to be pissed off. We’re going to get our revenge on them, Nick, you have my word. It’s become a real eye-for-an-eye fight now. And when we get our hands on a fat juicy Crow, you will have your chance to do whatever you want with him or her, Nick. You will have your chance.”

The funeral was a short and simple affair. As a private citizen of the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft, Maricel Ocampo had her fair share of friends, acquaintances, and well-wishers, and her death under such brutal circumstances was the talk of the town for at least a whole week. Her crucifixion was all over the news, and for the moment she was the highest-profile victim of the government’s ongoing campaign against illegal drugs and crime even though everyone could obviously see from a while away that the government had no part in this. The local police were treating it like the gangland killing that it was, but because of the Huesca Cartel’s incredible sway over Riuwiee’s affairs, the authorities’ hands were basically tied with regards to bringing Maricel Ocampo’s torturers and killers to justice because the Huesca Cartel in general and Amelia Pena in particular had made it very clear that the Cartel will be the ones to bring the killers to justice.

As per her wishes, only her family and very close friends attended the funeral and the memorial service of Maricel. She was to be cremated and the urn containing her ashes buried under the center circle of the IKEA Arena, the home stadium of Riuwiee United, Maricel’s favorite soccer-football team. Normally, both the club and the city authorities would have frowned upon such a request and rejected it, but because Maricel’s family was very well-connected and deeply rooted in local affairs and politics, they were able to get away with it. For all their future home matches, the Blue Tribesmen would be playing over the ashes of one of their most avid and devoted fans.

Following the burial of Maricel’s ashes in the center circle of the IKEA Arena (another private event only for family and friends), Amelia Pena sipped scotch at the head of the long mahogany table around which the Huesca Cartel’s governing council or their representatives had convened for this special meeting which Amy herself had called after the events of the past week. Maricel’s seat three chairs down from Amy’s right had been left unoccupied in her memory. Mateo Pena sat immediately to his twin sister’s right, and Justin Mendoza and Nicolai Mendez stood on both sides of the Huesca Cartel’s leader.

Nicolai was understandably the one who most felt the impact of his own sister’s brutalization and death, but Amy Pena herself came at a very close second. Maricel Ocampo was after all a trusted friend and associate of the Huesca clan and was in charge of the infiltration and invasion of the Crows’ home turf in Jugoskania. Maricel’s death was a blow against the organization on so many levels: the Cartel had lost one of its most efficient organizers and a vital cog in its renewed war against the Crows, and Maricel’s loss also stung Amy on a personal level. Riuwiee was supposed to be the Huesca Cartel’s fortress against its enemies. The city was their headquarters and their final redoubt against their perfidious rivals. Never in Guillermo Huesca’s life did the Cartel receive such a staggering blow such as this (Huesca himself was killed by his own rival, Fructuoso Arellano, in neighboring Releinthi), and Amy had sworn to the people working for her that the same would happen during her time. But now that promise, that oath, had been well and truly and comprehensively broken, and it really tore at Amy’s heart. She was a woman of her word, and she kept every promise which she made. Riuwiee was supposed to be her fortress, the place where she and her closest were safe and sound, but the fortress had been infested by rotten and dirty vermin, and that had compromised the integrity of her fortress which had resulted in this telling and bloody breach. Well, it was now time to clear out the infestation.

Amy set down her glass of Famous Grouse scotch loudly on the table, catching the attention of the gathering, which grew silent as their personal side conversations petered out in preparation for their leader’s coming announcement. Amy debated with herself against taking another sip of scotch, and then she decided fuck it, before she drained the glass, stood up, and cleared her throat. “Ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters,” she began, “we are at a crucial and critical juncture in our lives. The enemy, the perfidious Crows, has finally struck a blow against us, and they have struck it right at the heart of our territory. Yes, brothers and sisters, our own beloved capital city, Riuwiee, has come under attack. It has become the latest battleground between us and the enemy. And the enemy is no longer alone now. They’ve called upon some allies of theirs into this war, and they’ve made it very much personal. As I’m sure all of you already know by now, our dear friend and logistics expert Maricel Ocampo has fallen victim to the Crows and their slobbering lapdogs, the bikers known as the Corsairs.

“How do we know that it was the Crows and the Corsairs who were behind Maricel’s death?” Amy continued. “I’ll tell you why. The Corsairs claim that Riuwiee is their city, but it never has been and never will be. We own this fucking capital city of ours, and there ain’t nothing that these gangster wannabes can do about it. The people of Riuwiee are loyal to us, the Huesca Cartel, to us alone, and the memory of my dear departed Tito Guillermo—may he rest in peace with Maricel and all the angels and saints — which is why they have denounced the Corsairs as the perpetrators of this devious and dastardly, vile and perfidious deed, for the people of Riuwiee know who truly owns this town and this island. But how do we know that the Crows are behind this attack as well? Well, brothers and sisters, just take a look at what they did to poor old Maricel!” Amy whirled around and waited as the projector showed graphic images of Maricel Ocampo crucified and surrounded by crime scene people, police, and medical personnel working to get her down from the cross. Many people in the room, which were mostly involved in the running of the cartel and not the actual doing of killing and such, gasped as they saw such a close and personal friend and associate battered and brutalized. Even Amy herself had to take deep and steady breaths to calm herself down every time she saw Maricel’s crucified body, and Nicolai Mendez could never bring himself to look.

Amy turned off the projector and spread her arms wide, as if she had been crucified herself. “Ipinako siya sa krus, mga kapatid!” she shouted. “She was nailed to a cross! Maricel was crucified! Who among our enemies crucifies people to send a message? Only one group comes to mind, brothers and sisters, and that is the Crows. They like to crucify our people to send us messages because we’ve been fighting under the Catholic banner ever since we expanded to Anglatia, and the Crows fancy themselves to be crusaders and defenders of their Orthodox faith.

“Let me tell you something that we found out from our friends in the coroner’s office during their investigation into Maricel’s death, brothers and sisters,” Amy continued, now on a roll of rhetoric. “She didn’t die a quick death, Maricel. The Crows and the Corsairs made her suffer as they drove those fucking huge carpenters’ nails into her arms and feet. They made Maricel suffer as they hauled her cross up into the sky slowly and very painfully. They cut her in ways so that she wouldn’t bleed out too quickly while they had their way with her. And while she was hanging from the cross, the Crows and the Corsairs sat around, watched her, and laughed. They waited until the last moment before leaving and letting us find our dear sister Maricel’s battered, bloodied, and mangled corpse.

“This incident has proven the barbarity of our enemies, brothers and sisters,” Amy plowed on. “The Crows are barbarians, my friends. They lay waste to everything they lay their hands on until there’s nothing left but bones and carrion for the vultures to feast upon. Well, they may be able to do it in Anglatia without a fight from the locals, but sure as hell I’m not going to let them do that in Riuwiee, my city, my country! The Crows think they’re safe, hiding behind their Blue Roses friends in Nordskania along with their Maslev buddies and acting through their faithful servants the Corsairs. But in truth, my friends, they’re not. In a sense, our war with the Crows has become like the war in Nordskania. We are Pridnestrovia, and the Crows are Anglatia, surrounded by their friends in the Mountain Pact like the Maslevs for the Revolutionary Nordskanians and the Corsairs as Fleftic blood traitors. The Crows want to send us a message, eh? Well, they have no idea of the replies that we can give them. The Crows under-estimate the heights to which my uncle Guillermo has taken this group, this cartel, and the Crows will find out that that they have made the wrong choice of attacking us in our home turf. They should have kept the war in their country, and now they’re going to get it, along with their quote-unquote allies, the blood traitors that is the Corsairs.

“But, like Pridnestrovia, we can no longer go into this war without allies,” Amy said, preparing to wrap up her speech. “We need allies as well now that our enemy has some. Now, you all know that I’ve never been one to stoop to another person’s level, but in this conflict, I’m afraid that that is something which we will have to do. It takes a barbarian to bring down a barbarian, and it takes a real biker gang to take down a wannabe biker gang. It’s time to unleash the Huns.”

Instead of the applause which she had been expecting, Amy was surprised to hear murmurs coming from the rest of the council. Even her own brother seemed troubled by the announcement that she had just made. “The Huns, sis? Really?” Matt asked her quietly.

“Yes, Matt, the Huns,” Amy replied confidently. “It takes a biker to bring down a biker, and the Huns are our bikers against the Crows’ Corsairs.”

“Are you sure about that? I mean, sure, the Huns are our allies right now, but it’s only because we’ve got a common enemy in the government, and we’re working to maintain the status quo. But the Huns are not really under our control, if you know what I mean. These guys don’t trust people whom they can’t control and order around.”

“And that is exactly why we need the Huns in this war, my dear brother,” Amy said. “Everyone in Riuwiee knows that we have to keep the status quo until Novoire steps down in two years. But the Crows and the Corsairs encroaching into Riuwiee is going to put a dent into that plan unless we find some way to take them out. And the Huns are going to help us do just that.”

“It’s your call, Amy, but I just want to let you know that I don’t like it,” Matt said.

“You don’t have to like it, Matt. You just have to follow it. That’s the beauty of being the leader. Everyone follows what I say even if they don’t like it.”

QAILPYME Today

Parodysians end Alliance's losing streak against Eura

Since debuting in AOCAF51, Qasden's success in the regional tournament has been proven challenged. Of the two AOCAFs they have participated in, the best result was a sole tie in Valanora against New Reuss-Gera. In 95X, the Qads were drawn into a tough group consisting of Cosumar, Semarland and Tropicorp. Though they played to their strengths, they unfortunately left 95X without a single win.

Unfortunately, the Vans were not the only team in the alliance to struggle in their regional. Islana Lunigo, Qailpyme's Esportivan country, was drawn against Mattijana, Damukuni and Brenecia at the Campianato Esportiva in San Jose Guayabal and Ethane. Like the Vans, the Dragonites competed with tremendous efforts, but their group proved them obsolete. When they returned to Moaria, they were pointless, literally.

Of NS Sports' big three regionals, no Qailpyme team has yet to gain anything but a loss this cycle, leading many to fear of complete failure for an alliance created for sports. Mercredi, however, competed in the Cup of the Furturnites, the first tournament for the Emirates of Furturnia. The Enticers joyfully progressed beyond expectations in the group stage before being shut down by Kitsunia-Deese in the round of 16. While not apart of the "big 3", Mercredi's performance might be good enough to send them to the 2nd Globe Cup of Soccer, a tournament which immediately took down Islana. Still, many worried about failing all the big regionals embarrassingly.....until now.

In a country called South Yerfilag, Qailpyme's last hopes were drawn into a heavy group at the 26th Copa Rushmori, Rushmore's regional tournament. Parodys, the unstable dictatorship of a nation, had sent players to the competition so they can fairly face the squads of Eura, Pridnestrovia, South Yerfilag, and the Isles of Avon. Their first match, played at Verstadion Taal-Vergertersweg in Paasro, saw them face the powerhouse team of Eura.

The match commenced with Eura having the ball first. Shockingly, the Parodysian goalkeeper, Incognito, protected the net from what could've been an early deficit for the Anonymi. Basically forced to defend the entirety of the first half, Parodys eventually broke down after Isolated suffered from a hamstring injury, giving way for the first goal of the game in favor of Eura at the 38th minute.

The second set of 45 minutes viewed Parodys lose the ball within seconds and another astounding save by Incognito, which left a large bruise on the keeper's arm. Things started looking terrible for the Qailpymers until we reached the 54th minute. Masquerade, a center forward for the Anonymi, clipped in the equalizer with the assistance of right wing, Pseudo. Eura came back though, angrier and more determined. Incognito was eventually subbed out for Beard to avoid further injuries, a smart play this late in the first game. To much surprise, Beard played a strong keep, allowing nothing to touch what's behind 'em. The final whistle blew, and every country in the alliance roared with joy. It was a 1-1 draw, sure, but it was against the third best team in all of Rushmore, which made the 1 point all the more worthy.

With the hosts upending the Prinestrovians by 1, the Anonymi are currently looking at 3rd place in their group, just above Pridnestrovia. Tomorrow in Paasro, they will fight the Avonians in ,what is hoping to be, the most evenly match game of the competition.

Will the Anonymi struggle against the rest of Group C? Were the Euran team just messing with us for the real contest? Keep your webpage on this, because MD2 isn't something worth to miss, only at the 26th Copa Rushmori in South Yerfilag.

Mikke and Christianne stared to their front.
The former tilted her head to the side while the latter shrugged.
"What sprouted these guys?" Mikke asked. "I thought they were from Esportiva."
"They used to, I think." The Green Leaf woman replied, smiling. "Then there was this whole thing about points and whatnot. It wasn't pretty and then they showed up here."
"Did they even accomplish anything?" The number eleven asked, staring at the Anglatians.
"...I think you might want to ask Aliou about that, he's more into the whole watching news' side of things."
"Yo, Alli!" Mikke Lérida waved to the offensive midfielder. "Got any clue on these guys?"
"They yelled at Esportiva!"
"...Anything aside of that?"
"They yell a lot!"
The two strikers looked at each other, sighing, before looking back at him.
"Anything else?" Christianne asked.
"...They had another name couple of years ago..."
He tried to remember anything else, before sighing.
"That's about it! Think we can win!"
The Anglatians up front seemed rather offended by that.
"Oh! And they don't like when you call them Armeians!"
The two forwards nodded, meanwhile the three could hear cries and yells of "Up yours!".
The referee slightly tapped Christianne's shoulder. "Would you start the game already?"
She smiled. "OK. Lift it up, Mikke, I wanna try something."
Mikke punted the ball upwards.
Christianne spun her body, punting the ball hard deep into the opposition's net.
She shook her first, angry. "Damn! I was aiming for the roof..."
"Oi!" Nessa Chryst, Anglatia's forward, ran up to her, angry. "What did you just do? Did you cheat?"
"Oh, that's just a Soaring Green Dragon Tail Kick." Christianne smiled. "Name's a bit big, but it's actually quite simple, though I have to admit, you guys have some terrible luck if I managed to score from this far."
"You totally cheated! How could you surpass our impressive defense in such a simple shot! Surely there were outsider forces, yes, outsider forces-"
"Oh, give me a break." Mikke said. "Why don't you just go and roll the ball? It was a lucky shot, that's all." Mikke dragged Christianne back as Chryst and Santana prepared themselves to start things up.
Grass particles flew up as the Copa Rushmori official ball rolled from the carefully well-made boots of the twenty-one year older Santana to the feet of the Tel'Ardre Phoenix played Nessa Chryst. She could already feel it, a new start after that lucky shot could surely do it, the Explorers would start their run to the top with a win over minnows Eastern Sunrise Islands!
Yohanne Tiernan stumbled the ball out of Nessa Chryst's feet.
He lobbed the ball over to Mikke's chest, who managed to place it perfectly on the way to Aliou Badiane.
He noticed Mikke Lérida running with some speed, preparing to pass by the Anglatian defenders, who seemed stuck on some sort of slow trance, and made a picture perfect overhead pass.
Mikke punted the ball in with the usual power of a Gon descendant.
Eastern Sunrise 2, Anglatia 0.
"WHAT THE HELL!" Nessa yelled at the two Eastern Sunrisian strikers as they congratulated each other for the good play. "YOU TOTALLY CHEATED!"
"Uh... We just ran." Mikke noted.
"Yeah, and we didn't just blunt the ball away again." Christianne said, smiling. "If you guys didn't take all that long to do anything, I think you'd have a better shot at stopping us."
"HOW COULD YOU!" The opponent yelled again, fuming. "YOU'LL KNOW THE TRUE POWER OF THE ANGLATIAN SCHOOL OF SOCCER!"
"Football."
"YOU SHUT UP!"

Eastern Sunrise 5, Anglatia 0.
Nessa laid on the field, face covered by her hands.
The two Eastern Sunrisian strikers arrived near her.
"Man." Mikke noted. "You guys had a terrible day."
"I mean... Never seen someone play like this." Christianne nodded. "Good thing we thought it was a good idea to let Alli try to score one or it would've been pretty embarrassing."
"Shut up." Nessa muttered. "Shut up. Shut up. Shut up."
"We're just saying." Christianne smiled. "You should really try to play on a faster pace. People don't have the time to wait for you to draw a massive picture or something. Football is fluid."
"Soccer." She muttered again.
"Whatever." Mikke said. "We're giving you tips on how to play. Sure, we're not the best to do so, but still."
"Technically, we are." Aliou noted, approaching the two. "I mean, USI won the last two World Cups."
"Yeah, but we're not USI. We're just ESI." Christianne said. "Totally different."
"Well." Mikke shrugged. "Good luck on the next games. And keep on mind what we said."
"PISS OFF!" Nessa yelled.

"Coach."
The Dreamlanders stood in front of the manager at the locker room.
She kept looking down, alone in her own mind.
"Look..." Jéan-Phillipe Mariee took the word, what with him being the captain. "I'm sorry. We're sorry."
Jéanne kept looking down, nodding.
"We know that you, as a Hibiki, prefers winning over all matters." Kenny Timmermans added.
The team was really well-disciplined, surprisingly for a team that had just lost their debut at a Copa Rushmori.
"We didn't make you proud by our efforts... As the future of the Sunrise Islands, we're sorry." Rouge van der Starr said.
The young midfielder had been played for about half of the game but had failed to do much of an impact.
Jules Bauer sighed. "When she says we, she means myself as well."
"As I do." Desirée Pacificeaux added.
The entire team was ashamed.
"We'll do better next game, we promise!" yelled Jéan-Auguste Mariee.
The team left the locker room, pumped for the next game.
Jéane Marie looked up, taking off her ear plugs.

Copa Rushmori Highlights program on ELTV-1
(OOC: I'll refer to The Urain's player by position in lieu of a roster)

[in the studio]

Thomas O'Henly (main presenter): "...We kick off our coverage with Eastfield Lodge's opening match of the Copa Rushmori, against a Urain side ranked 171st in the world, and unranked regionally going into this tournament. Your commentators for the match at Baarsbruck Field are Pablo Acquet and Kyle Etherington."

[Match commentary]

Pablo Acquet: "Two years ago, Eastfield Lodge recorded their best ever finish in the Copa Rushmori by reaching the semi-finals in Rio Oscuro, and it started off with a one-nil win over The Urain in the group stage. In only the second ever meeting between the two sides, can Eastfield Lodge do it again? Lowell Brown has opted for a high strength starting line-up in this opening match, with Korbin Harvey in goal and a back four of Emely Towers, Wesley Martin, Abdur Rehman and Hamaad Siddique. Amitee Abdalla is the key anchor in midfield, joined by The Doctor and Glen Soria. Ali Asif and Fedrea Quazin provide the width, with Tia Drenas, whose goal was the sole difference between the two teams in Rio Oscuro, up front. The Urain are lining up in a traditional flat 4-4-2, with GK in goal, a back four of RCB, LCB, RB and LB. RCM, LCM, RM and LM line up in midfield, and RS joins LS up front."

Kyle Etherington: "Lowell Brown clearly wants to make a statement to the rest of the group today that this Eastfield Lodge team isn't to be trifled with. It's good to see a lot of the up and coming youngsters make their way into this starting squad, and there are certainly high hopes on the likes of Harvey, Towers, Abdalla and Asif to carry us forward."

==> [5']

PA: "Towers with the backpass to Harvey, who takes a moment to control the ball, plays it out wide to Rehman. Rehman tries to take the ball forward but can't find an opening, plays it back into Towers, who then plays it back to Harvey."

KE: "Good early defensive pressure from The Urain, keeping Eastfield Lodge from playing the way they want. You can see the back four beginning to get frustrated, not enough movement up front to create the opportunity."

PA: "Harvey almost gets caught on the ball by the onrushing striker, but he manages to squeeze it past them into Siddique. Abdalla comes short for the ball, flicks it past her marker and now there's an opportunity! Abdalla out wide to Quazin, who beats the full back and gets the cross in. Only as far as the first defender who puts it behind for the first corner of the match."

KE: "That was better from the midfield. They'll need to drop back more often to start the moves off. Great play from Abdalla to create that move though, dummying the ball past her marker."

PA: "Ali Asif lining up the corner. 6 Eastfielder players in the box. He hits it high, and it's Quazin! Just over the bar! So close to the opening goal from Fedrea Quazin."

KE: "Agreed, excellent movement from her to get half a yard on her marker, but shed just couldn't get over the ball enough to direct it on target under pressure from LCM. Early warning shot from the Eastfield Lodge team though."

==> [12']

PA: "Abdalla, holding up the ball around the centre circle. Finds Asif on the right wing, played back to Rehman. Rehman forward to Abdalla, who flicks it on to Glen Soria. Soria turns and is tripped by RCM. Free kick to Eastfield Lodge, about 25 yards from goal and left of centre, level with the edge of the 6 yard box. Both the Doctor and Glen Soria standing over it, a 4 man wall between them and the goal. The referee pushes the wall back until he's satisfied, drawing the spray line. A real chance to open the scoring here, the distance is almost perfect striking distance. Referee blows his whistle, up steps Soria and ... it's in! Deflected into the far corner by the wall, keeper left wrong-footed by the deflection. Eastfield Lodge 1, The Urain 0."

KE: "Bit of an unfortunate goal to concede for The Urain, but a deserved lead for Eastfield Lodge in all honesty. Soria tries to get it over the wall, but it ends up taking a nick off the player on the right side of the wall, taking it past the keeper who's already diving the other way. I think the keeper would have gotten to that had it not taken the deflection, so a little unlucky for The Urain."

==> [18']

PA: "Siddique receives the ball in acres of space on the left hand side, takes time to pick out Abdalla in the middle. Abdalla plays a one-two with The Doctor, passes back to Martin. Long ball forward to Quazin on the wing, well controlled. Eastfield Lodge have been controlling play well since the early goal, not letting Urain have much time on the ball. Siddique receives the ball, back to Quazin, who beats the full back to the byline. Ball stuck in the corner, played back to Siddique, who plays it centrally to The Doctor. Nice reverse pass to Abdalla, who shoots! Good save from the Urain keeper to deny Amitee Abdalla."

KE: "Again, good movement from the midfield, and nice work from Quazin to keep that ball alive in the corner. Bit of a hopeful shot Abdalla in the end, but almost worth it as the keeper needed to make that save. Almost in the top corner that was."

==> [22']

PA: "RCB with the ball, inside the Urain half. They have been struggling to create a clear cut opportunity so far, with Eastfield Lodge dominating proceedings up to this point. Out wide to LB, back to LCB. Good pressure from the Eastfielder front line, keeping the Urain attack pinned in their own half. Long ball forward from LCB. LCM beats The Doctor to head it on, LM picks up the ball. Played through to RS on the edge of the box, pulled back to RCM. RCM turns and plays it back out to RB, the Eastfielder defence holding steady. RB forward to RM who plays it back, RB whips in a cross and a header! So close from LS there, as they head it onto the bar."

KE: "This game isn't over at 1-0, Urain have shown that must just now. Their first real opportunity of the game, and it was a great cross by RB as nobody picked up the backpass, and despite some tight marking, LS managed to outjump Wesley Martin and got to the ball. A few inches lower and that would have been the equaliser, but that will be encouraging for the minnows as they look to get back into the game."

==> [30']

PA: "LB with the ball now. Passes it forward to LCM. Tackle by Abdalla, ball falls to LM. LM passes back to RCB, who plays a long ball forward to RM. RM running down the touchline, Siddique gets to the ball first though but can only see it out for a corner. Box is filling up with Urain players, only one left on the halfway line. RCM takes the corner, whips it in, headed away by Towers. only as far as RCM at the corner of the box. Second ball in cleared again by Towers, and it falls to Asif on the right wing. It's three on two on the counter-attack! Asif with the ball runs at the RB. The Doctor and Tia Drenas are up with him. Asif around thirty yards from goal now, plays it inside to the Doctor, who threads it forwards for Ali Asif! It's one-on-one! And he's been pulled back by the RB! Surely that's a foul! Ref blows his whistle, and calls the Urain player over. And he pulls out a ... yellow card? All of the Eastfielder fans are shocked at that, surely that was a red card?"

KE: "I... don't really know what to say. That was a stonewall red card, RB was that last man, and he prevented a clear goalscoring opportunity! Asif would have been one-on-one there, so I just don't understand what's happened there."

PA: "It was a great counter-attack from Eastfield Lodge though, breaking away 3 on 2 and the one-two between Asif and the Doctor was certainly the right idea in the end, even if it was stopped illegally. The players aren't too happy with the decision, and there's still some heated discussion going on between The Doctor and the ref, but I don't think that will change anything."

KE: "Looking again at the reply, it is a stonewall foul and a free kick, about a yard outside the box, but the only reason I can think of that it wasn't a red is that Ali wasn't on the ball when he was fouled, even it was patently clear he was going to get to the ball first. But even then, RB is an extremely lucky player to still be on the pitch."

PA: "We're now over half an hour into the match, and we have a free kick just to the right of the D for Eastfield Lodge, who are leading by a goal to nil. The Doctor standing over this one, a five man wall hovering next to the penalty spot. He takes a step or two back, the ref blows his whistle and ... just over the bar. Quite hard to get it over the wall and down again, and the Doctor wasn't too far off this time. Still 1-0 to Eastfield Lodge."

==> [40']

PA: "RCB with the ball, passes it forwards to RCM. RCM gets tripped by Glen Soria, and concedes the foul. The ref beckons her over and pulls out the yellow card. Soria clearly isn't happy with that decision, and I'm not surprised, given what happened then minutes ago, but the ref decides to let her dissent slide. Free kick about 40 yards from goal on the right hand side. RM to take, about 6 Urain players in the box waiting for the cross. Cross comes in, and the header's gone in! RB has scored the equaliser for Urain! It's 1-1."

KE: "Talk about a kick in the teeth. The player who should really have been sent off ten minutes earlier for preventing a goal at one end equalising at the other. Towers is complaining to the ref as well, maybe saying that she was fouled as the ball came in. Looking at the replay, it looks like the Urain players are all being tracked by the Eastfielder defenders, but there's RB climbing all over the back of Towers to get the free header! That definitely looks like a foul, so that's two massive decisions gone in the favour of a single player there."

PA: "And Emely Towers is getting booked for her protests as well. Good thing that goal wasn't replayed on the big screen here, otherwise I think the Eastfielder fans might have gotten a little angry at that."

==> [48' (Second Half)]

PA: "Eastfield Lodge have certainly been on top since the break, but yet to break through the Urain backline. Hopeful cross from Quazin cleared, only as far as Abdalla, who is forced to play it back to Towers. Towers to Martin, who punts it wide for Rehman. Rehman plays it forward to Soria, who flicks it on for Asif. Asif controls the ball, faces off against LB. Asif gives wide to Rehman on the overlap, Rehman in plenty of space to cross. In comes the ball, and Drenas scores! Eastfield Lodge are back in front, and Tia Drenas might have done it again!"

KE: "Poor defending from The Urain there, as both LM and LB failed to track Abdur Rehman's overlapping run, and it was a simple matter for him, with all the time in the world, to pick out the perfect cross, and he found Tia Drenas, unmarked, unchallenged, who converted the chance with the simplest of headers. She couldn't miss, and didn't. The Urain keeper had no chance."

==> [52']

PA: "Towers, on the ball, quickly chased down by RS, ball played back to Harvey who clears it upfield. The game has certainly opened up after that goal, with The Urain changing tack to chase down the ball at every opportunity. Ball falls to LCM, who quickly tries playing it off to LM, but the ball is intercepted by Abdur Rehman. Rehman to Soria, Soria back to Abdalla. Abdalla in acres of space, picks out Soria's run forwards. Soria on the edge of the box, but is forced back by the defensive wall. Played back to Abdalla, who plays it to the other wing. Quazin takes it forward, runs into RB, and if forced to play it Siddique. Siddique runs inside, plays a one-two with The Doctor, back to The Doctor. And his snap shot rustles the side netting!"

KE: "The Urain are still keeping it tight at the back, which they need to do if they want to be more expansive, but Siddique's run showed there are still gaps to exploit in and around the back line, even if the shot from The Doctor in the end seemed a little hopeful, albeit not that far wide of the left-hand post."

==> [61']

PA: "Wadimu with her first touch of the ball on the right wing, flicks it past LB and chases after it, only to be beaten to it by LCB. Ball cleared long by GK, and headed on by RCM. LCM now running forward with the ball, Abdalla facing off with him. LCM forced back, plays the ball out wide to RB, who immediately plays it long to RM. RM gets to the ball ahead of Siddique, and races to the byline. RM gets the cross in, and LS meets it! What a save from Harvey!"

KE: "Good, quick attack from Urain there, but that header was straight at Harvey. Anywhere either side of him and that might have been the equaliser."

PA: "Long ball forward from Harvey, and Drenas gets to the ball ahead of RCM, flicks it on to The Doctor, who floors RCB with some fancy feet and he bears down on goal! GK comes off his line and The Doctor tries the chip! Cleared off the line by LCB! So close!"

KE: "Quick counter-attack from Eastfield Lodge, mirroring Urain's long-ball strategy that they almost scored with moments earlier. Both sides need to be careful with this from now on, but that was a great move from the Doctor to get past RCB, and he nearly got rewarded for it. But good defending from LCB to keep The Urain in with a chance. This match looks set for a grandstand finish."

==> [68']

PA: "Ball played out wide to Wadimu, back to Abdalla, who switches play to Quazin. Quazin knocks it centrally to Soria, who can't go forward. He plays it wide to Abdalla. Abdalla wide to Siddique, who runs forward with the ball. One-two with Quazin and Siddique is free on the wing! Siddique plays the cross in early and Drenas heads it! Great save from GK! Fingertip save to push the ball wide."

KE: "What a move! Again Siddique showing his worth in this match, beating players on the left wing with all neat little passes and runs. Great header from Drenas as well, but that is some diving save from the Urain keeper to keep the gap at one."

PA: "Fedrea Quazin standing over the ball in the left hand corner. Plenty of bustling in the box, the ref steps in to stop RB and Towers shoving each other. Ref backs out of the box and blows his whistle. Quazin with two arms in the air, and floats the ball to the back post where Towers meets it! GOAL! 3-1 to Eastfield Lodge! Emely Towers scores with a towering header!"

KE: "Where was the marking? RB seems to completely lose her in the crowd, and she pops up completely unmarked in the box, and it's an easy finish without any defender attacking the ball."

==> [78']

PA: "Eastfield Lodge have been hemmed into their own half since their third goal, Urain throwing the kitchen sink, and then some, at getting back into the game, but struggling to get past the Eastfielder defence. RCB with the ball on the halfway line, trying to find an outlet, but is forced to backtrack and play it out wide to LB. LB, back into LCB, who plays it forward to LCM. LCM manages to turn Soria and gets a run at the defence. Played right to RCM, who then is shoved off the ball by Abdalla. Free kick to The Urain, about thirty yards from goal, slightly right of centre. Urain players pile into the box apart from RB and LCM, who stand over the ball. 2-man wall in front of the ball, with Harvey opting to defend the left side of his net, or the right side from Urain's perspective. Plenty of players congregating in and around the box, ready to pounce. Ref blow his whistle, and RB runs up and strikes it! It's curled in! What a goal!"

KE: "That is unbelievable. The power and curl he got on that shot, around the wall into the top left corner. Harvey dived for it but there was no way he was ever going to reach that, it was almost too perfectly placed. But it's now Eastfield Lodge 3, The Urain 2, and that's the second goal by a player who shouldn't even be on the pitch. This is going to be a nervy last 10 minutes."

==> [85']

PA: "Daniel Keeble on the ball, holding it up under pressure from LCM and RCM. Gets away well and plays it wide to Quazin. 5 minutes of regular time to go in this tense match. Quazin plays the ball back to Keeble, who finds Soria in enough space to turn. Soria with time on the ball, plays in The Doctor. The Doctor back to Soria, about 5 yards outside the box. Back to Keeble who plays it wide to Rehman. Rehman goes forwards, cuts inside RM and plays in Soria at the corner of the penalty box. Soria through to Drenas, who scores! 4-2 to Eastfield Lodge! No, the assistant's got his flag up, and the goal won't count!"

KE: "Well, that was a brave decision, but again, excellent play from the full backs to begin the move, and great movement by Soria to get into space, and spot Drenas' run. Looking at the replay ... I think she's onside. Yeah, she's clearly level with and being played onside by RCB, and that's another poor decision that's gone against Eastfield Lodge today. It was a great finish from Drenas as well, shooting right across the face of the goal and just inside the far post, GK had no chance."

==> [90+1']

PA: "Into the final minute of stoppage time we go, and The Urain are getting desperate. Goal kick taken long, headed away by Keeble. Only as far as RCB, who plays it long into the channel. Rehman mops the ball up, plays it back to Harvey. Harvey clears long, flicked on by Soria and the ball runs towards the corner of the pitch. Nervy few seconds for Eastfield Lodge here. LCB beats Drenas to the ball, but is forced to clear it for a throw-in to the opposition. Wadimu taking her time getting to the ball. Throw taken short to Drenas, back to Wadimu, who is forced into the corner. LB and LCB go in to retrieve the ball, Wadimu holds them off. Ball stolen, LCB clears long, RCM beaten by Keeble in the air, ball falls to Quazin. She now holds up the ball in the other corner. Last few seconds of the 2 minutes of added time. She manages to hold off RB, and then loses the ball for a corner kick. She quickly takes it, plays it to Rehman, who shields it in the corner. Referee checks his watch. Rehman plays it along the line to Quazin. Quazin with a high, looping ball over the bar, and that is that! The referee blows the full time whistle and Eastfield Lodge have beaten The Urain 3-2, in what can only be described as a nervy and very controversial affair. But a win is a win, and the team can go into the bye day with that knowledge, and they can look forward to their next match against The Great Pi."
