Format- Season:
-- The 40 nations will be broken into 8 groups of 5.
-- Each nation will play six games against the other four teams within their group. This will be done in a round robin format, with 3 home and 3 road games against each opponent. They will be scorinated as a three game series, with one series being scorinated per matchday.
-- Games will scorinated with xkoranate, version 0.3.3. Saintland's NSFS formula will be used.
-- Tiebreakers will be settled in accordance to the Host Bid.

Format- Playoffs:
-- The top two teams in each group qualify for the playoffs. Group winners are seeded 1-8, and second place teams between 9-16 regardless of actual records. (So if the best second place team is better then the worst first place team, the worst first place team is still the 8 seed).
-- There are no wild cards. You MUST finish in the top two in your group to advance.
-- There is NO re-seeding as the playoffs progress.
-- Every playoff series, other then the final, is a three game series with ALL GAMES IN NEWMANISTAN.
-- The final is a seven game series, played entirely in Newmanistan.

Timeline of Upcoming Events:
Dec. 14 (Wed)- This is when signups will officially be closed, at the latest. Signups close once we hit 40.
Dec. 17 (Sat)- Announcement of the Official Group Draw
Dec. 19 (Mon)- We begin. Three games will be scorinated per day, with a two day off-period for the Christmas Holiday, Dec 24 and 25. I WILL scorinate over New Years.
Daily Cutoff Time: 9-10pm, Eastern USA time. (Be anticipating it at 9!)

What to do now?
Make a roster. Not only is this going to get you a roster bonus, but it is very appreciated amongst your competitors. Even if you do not do anything else, please, at least, do this.

You can make a Beautiful Roster like this, a basic roster like this, or somewhere in between. Even if you might not roleplay, you're opponents probably will, and would like to at least fall back on this information about your nation's team. While the beautiful rosters get more of a roster bonus then a basic roster, all rosters are appreciated.

Begin roleplaying. Every matchday is a new opportunity to obtain RP bonus. The more RP bonus you get, the better. While a nation's beginning rank is very important to start, RP bonus becomes just as important. It is possible to do well in this tournament in your first try. I made the finals in my first Classic. Schiltzberg won the whole thing in his first. It can happen, but at the same time, it happened because we roleplayed to a high level as often as we were able. It did not just fall in our laps.

About roleplaying:
You are pretty much able to do as you please if you are the first one roleplaying a game, but be aware that each nation has a set of rules, called RP Permissions, and they look like this:
Choose my runscorers: Yes/No (Can they choose who scored your runs?)
Choose my lineup: Yes/No (Can they pick a starting lineup at will for you, or must they stick to what you have created?)
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes/No (Can they opponent choose any pitcher, or are they supposed to follow your rotation to a tee? It can be good to check their prior game RP to see if they mentioned their starting pitcher for the next game as well).
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No (This allows the opponent to be very detailed and specific when describing how scoring events transpired).
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No (Is the opponent allowed to say your player got hurt? Some nations will say yes with a disclaimer of only saying they are hurt, and not saying what was hurt or how badly someone was hurt.)
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No (Can the opponent completely do whatever they please in regards to injuries)
Eject my players: Yes/No (Is the opponent allowed to eject your players?)
Godmod other events: Yes/No (Other events refer to unusual or crazy things, such as, perhaps, the outfielder's arm was suddenly able to extend 50 feet and they took away your potential HR. Some nations that may be open to crazy things but do not want to be caught off guard may add a disclaimer to TG them any ideas first)).
Use DH at home: Yes/No (Every baseball fan's favorite argument. Is the DH used at your home stadium?)
Other: (Are there nation specific tendencies that you want your opponent to abide by? List it here). An example is: Newmanistan is very aggressive on the basepaths and speedy baserunners are commonly looking to steal both second and third. This is the place to put that information.

Note: If your opponent has roleplayed the game before you, you are expected to roleplay it the same way, although you still can have some flexibility: For example, did your opponent RP a three run double, in one inning.... that really should have been called foul? Did the umpire blow a called strike three on the opponents big slugger before they hit the big homer? Those are things you can still have flexibility with.

Hosting Cities:
So let’s move on now to the cities hosting the games.

1) Tundra Falls (Tundra Falls Proving Grounds)
What is the Proving Grounds? It is simply a marvel of the world. A football, soccer and baseball stadium, and indoor arena (to host hockey/basketball or other sports) are lined up in a row, each in itself being a state of the art facility in its offerings. These stadiums, however, make up the infield of a 3.5-mile auto racing super speedway. So it is many facilities, within one facility. Additionally, there is a horse racing track that surrounds the indoor arena, and a racing road course throughout the parking lot.

Each stadium has there own individual capacities, but in reality, if for example, the baseball stadium is sold out, fans can then sit in the grandstands of the auto racing facility and watch the game on giant “diamond visions”. As the grandstands of the auto racing facility completely surround the stadiums, it is possible for over half a million people to be in attendance.

All domestic Newmanistanian championship events, from high school level on up, are played at the Proving Grounds, and it is possible for all venues to be hosting events simultaneously. It is Newmanistanian legend (which is RP’d to be fact), that Spirits look over the Proving Grounds, and if Newmanistan gets a “lucky bounce” once in a while, that there was superhuman reasoning for it.

It has hosted many interregional championship games, including the Classic, and will again this year. Tundra Falls is in the south east of the empire, about 100 miles northwest of Pocono City.

Field Dimensions: LF: 383, LCF: 399, CF: 415, RCF: 402, RF: 377. Wall height: 9 feet.
Capacity: 61,000 (Baseball Stadium only, overflow seating possible).
Real Life USA City Equivalent: Think Green Bay and the passion for Lambeau Field.

2) Pocono City (Emperor Michael IV Stadium)

Welcome to the Capital of Newmanistan. It is located in the south east, and has something for everyone. You can get a sense for a lot of the history of the Empire here with museums galore that feature the Royal Family, but also other cultural features.

Any stadium named after Emperor Michael IV is going to be a visually stunning facility, and it delivers exactly that. While the Proving Grounds attracts people and fame due to its history and lore, this is truly the most modern stadium in the Empire. Every now and then, members of the Royal Family will be in attendance.

Field Dimensions: LF: 359, LCF: 390, CF: 408, RCF: 390, RF: 359, Wall height: 8.5 feet.
Capacity: 66,000
Real Life USA City Equivalent: New York City with the Washington, DC political vide thrown in.

3) Loudon (The Jungle)

The city of Loudon is the third largest city in the empire, and is located in the northeast. It is generally considered the anti-Pocono City because it is a place where people can go to be completely away from the government. Therefore, Loudon is a bit more liberal, overall. The stadium is home to the Loudon Leopards, and “The Jungle” used to just be a nickname before becoming its official name since everyone referred to it as such. It gets LOUD. Though that should not surprise.

Field Dimensions: LF: 362, LCF: 371, CF: 385, RCF: 375, RF: 349. Wall height: 8 feet, LF-CF, 10 feet, CF to RF.
Capacity: 54,000
Real Life USA City Equivalent: Chicago

4) Jessicaville (Empress Jessica I Stadium)

Back in the day, the nation of Secristan was Newmanistan’s neighbor to the east. When Secristan ceased, Newmanistan took over 2/3rds of the land (with Cassadaigua, who was on the other side of Secristan, getting the other 1/3rd). Jessicaville was formerly Amherst, Secristan, what had been Secristan’s capital. When it was taken over to become part of Newmanistan, the Emperor re-named it Jessicaville in honor of Empress Jessica I, one of the greatest rulers in our history. The stadium is formerly Amherst Stadium (Secristan had a name for it which I forget), which it means it did host the WBC 12 championship games. Since it has been a long time, this is now like any other city in Newmanistan and no longer has the Secristani influence.

Field Dimensions (modern day): LF- 390, LCF- 392, CF- 415, RCF- 393, RF- 372. Wall height: 8 feet.
Capacity: 68,000
Real Life USA City Equivalent: Los Angeles

5) Putnam Lake (Jeremy McAllister Stadium)

Named for Newmanistan’s greatest soccer player, this southwestern city is the smallest of the eight hosting events and may not offer a ton other then its great beaches.

Field Dimensions: LF- 340, LCF- 359, CF- 392, RCF- 370, RF- 338 Wall Height: 11 feet.
Capacity- 55,000
Real Life USA City Equivalent: Miami

6) Southport (Keisler Stadium)

Named after the great Stacey Keisler, the greatest pitcher of all time (in our opinion of course, though she’d have a very good case for the title), this South Central city lives and breathes baseball. There are monuments throughout the city for Keisler and other Rockets players. Tickets for the games will sell out within hours, even if the Rockets are not playing.

Field Dimensions: LF- 385, LCF- 401, CF- 423, RCF- 390, RF- 377 Wall height: 9 feet.
Capacity: 60,000
Real Life USA City Equivalent: Dallas

7) Olympia (Olympia Stadium)
A typical large city, and the biggest city in the northwest of the Empire. This is not typically a tourist destination for people, and is generally just awarded these events so our citizens in the Northwest can have a convenient location to travel to.

Field Dimensions: LF- 350, LCF- 360, CF- 380, RCF- 360, RF- 350. Wall Height- 7.5 feet.
Capacity: 51,000
Real Life USA City Equivalent: Seattle

8) Centralia (Centralia Stadium)
Located, wait for it, in the center of the Empire, Centralia is the industrial capital of the Empire. It’s not the biggest city, but these blue-color fans are very supportive.

Field Dimensions: LF- 342, LCF- 369, CF- 388, RCF- 355, RF- 344
Real Life USA City Equivalent: Pittsburgh

The Quick Bulletin: One major change in the starting lineup, as veteran catcher Moalna’akai Lai retires. His replacement is the veteran 36 year old Mako Rimakurakai, who has no national team experience but has played top level Vaian domestic baseball for 14 years. Lurking on the sidelines is Cannons catcher John Darren Jr., a 21 year old phenom with a potent bat.

Frenline Delpha Anacondas
Image

Last year was one of the biggest disappointment in Anacondas' history. Having won the right to co-host the 37th edition of the WBC, the Anacondas came into Frenline Delpha pumped and raring to go. However, Frenline Delpha struggled through the group stage, going 17-13. In the end, they needed a tiebreaker to advance out of their group with the dominating Ko-Oren. The Anacondas had to rely on head-to-head runs against -Anthor- to advance to the round of sixteen vs Zyarus. However, the Anacondas made an early exit from their own tournament by losing the series three games to one. The Anacondas have worked hard over the offseason and are ready to take this tournament by storm. Get ready for the Anacondas to slither into Newmanistan and take their first ever WBC crown.

Base Corps 38: Death to Ethane!

Postby Drawkland » Tue Dec 13, 2016 7:03 am

DRAWKLAND NATIONAL BASEBALL TEAM

Name: Base Corps
Colors: Black with Red trim
Demonym: Drawkian
4TH World Baseball Classic, Rank #19
Stadium: Hydrogen Cyanide Field, Drawk City
Capacity: 50,000
Image
Manager:
Head Coach: Ronan Finn
Assistant Coaching Staff:
[AC] Giovanni Daly
[H] Wallace Nestor
[F] Pedro Dennadi
[P] Bryson Crispin

The Base Corps' home field has been designated as Hydrogen Cyanide Field, a ballpark housing a massive 50,000. It's nestled in the middle of Drawk City, near the Sports Quarter of the city around the Drawkland River. The field is regularly used by the Drawk City Scouts, but in the offseason it's used by the Base Corps and as a stage for events.
Drawk City being Drawkland's most massive, sprawling city of many millions, travel can get congested, but there are lots of options for travelers. For teams, buses can be used, and there are several charter/private bus companies who are welcoming visiting teams. Traveling by airship is the favorable option for those wanting to see a big slice of Drawkian culture, traveling in the city. The lower left corner of the photo seen above is actually a semi-large dock for boats, which teams can travel in if they feel like it.
Getting to the city also heralds several options. Drawk City has a space port for those from non-Sonnelian regions, and an airport for more "local" travels (say if a team went to a space port with cheaper rates and flew into Drawk City by plane). Travel by boat is possible, but it's all river travel, so the source port will have to be from somewhere else on the Drawkland River or on the coastlines.

Drawkland is quite a cultural and tourism-minded nation, so teams and fans will have much fun in the city before and after the games. A notable item is the very widespread usage of music. Not only can music be heard through the streets, but in all sports games, including baseball, pep bands are a common if not a necessary feature of every game. Playing during gameplay is accepted, so visiting teams may have to take this into account. When on the road, however, the Drawkian pep bands following the Base Corps is more polite and will only play between innings. Drum cadences are crowd favorites.

A quirk about the Drawkians is that they generally train players of the same position to achieve the same level of batting skill and technique. This way, they never have to alter the lineup, they simply sub in the new player in the same position. Therefore, the lineup is based on position and not names. If both the Starter and the Bench player of a position are out for the game, the available DH will fill both their lineup position and field position (DH's are trained for basic skill across the field in Drawkland).

The Drawkians follow a strict pitching rotation. The pitchers are listed here as Starter/Mid Relief/Set Up/Closer. Generally they will follow this order, unless the Starter or Mid Relief give high performance, in which case they will keep them in until the last inning (giving way to the closer), or even keep them in the whole game (if they're throwing a no-hitter or are close to a record). Each game has a different rotation, it goes in the below order. This works especially well this edition considering there are 3 games scorinated per matchday.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes.
Choose my lineup: My lineup is as specified above. You may use that.
Follow my pitching rotation: Use the rotation of pitchers I've specified for the game.
Godmod scoring events: Yes.
RP injuries to my players: Yes, as long as it's not career-ending.
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes, as long as it's not career-ending.
Eject my players: Yes, only one per game and a duration of a game.
Godmod other events: As long as it doesn't destroy my nation or my organization, I'm fine with anything.
Use DH at home: Yes.
As far as permissions go, as long as it doesn't totally wreck me, I don't mind, and in fact, you don't even have to TG (unless you're starting some diplomatic drama or something). I like surprises.

After finally making the playoffs in a group stage which was decided on the final matchday to advance over Ethane, the Base Corps has grown more confident and are ready to take on another edition, hopefully to make it further than the Round of 16 (where they were easily dispatched by Gregoryisgodistan last edition). After their manager for the first 3 editions, Angus Lockie, decided to retire from managing the Base Corps and was picked up by Ethane following their upsetting failure to pass the group stage, the Base Corps is now putting their faith in all-new manager Robert Steele. Steele does have plenty of experience in Drawkland's PBL, but he's a stranger to international baseball, which makes this edition a true gamble.

THE GRAND DUCHY OF SCHILTZBERG
Image
"Deum Super Omnia"

History:
The Grand Duchy of Schiltzberg is an enormous nation that stretches to engulf much of the European continent, and has grown from humble beginnings into being the economic, social, and cultural powerhouse that it is today. In the year 1718, the grand patriot and war hero, whose name was Nicolas Schiltz, was granted a large portion of land for his gallantry in action and his extreme patriotism and courage in the First Javanese War of Succession (1704-1707) by the Luxembourgish Grand Duke. This land became a province of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and was called Schiltzberg. Schiltzberg began to grow in industry and culture, and with the growing ideas of the Enlightenment, Schiltzbergers believed that they deserved to be a sovereign state, which would be independent from Luxembourg. Inspired by the American Revolution, Duke Jean I of Schiltzberg declared Schiltzberg's independence from Luxembourg on March 31, 1781. Luxembourg was in no state of readiness for war, and was forced to recognize Schiltzberg's independence, and Luxembourg's Grand Duke Joseph I signed the treaty to recognize the new Grand Duchy on February 12, 1782. The nation grew industrially very quickly, having an industrial revolution, and it quadrupled in size, gaining territories from its militarily inferior rival of the Holy Roman Empire, which Schiltzberg seemed to be continuously and indefinitely at war with.

In the nineteenth century, Emperor Napoleon of France, which had been an ally of Schiltzberg's before the French Revolution, threatened to declare war on Schiltzberg if it did not submit itself to his rule. Schiltzberg refused, and this led to a French invasion of Schiltzbergian territory. Schiltzberg lashed out against Napoleon's army with an army that was much stronger than the Emperor had anticipated, and Schiltzberg defeated Napoleon, winning crucial battles at Paris and Versailles. Schiltzberg occupied France for seven months and intended on claiming the entire territory of that nation for its own, but hostile Germany its allies were afraid of Schiltzberg becoming too powerful, and threatened to declare war if Schiltzberg claimed land south of the 47th parallel. Schiltzberg claimed all of France north of that latitude line, though it also ceded a large portion of the land to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, which had been an ally in the war, and the remaining territory became an independent government known as the Republic of France, which became a close ally of Schiltzberg in many crucial wars.

Late in that century, the German kingdoms began to centralize, making Germany a critical threat to Schiltzberg and all of Europe. In 1914, following the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, who was a leader in Germany's ally of Austria-Hungary, the German military broke a twenty year standoff with Schiltzberg and its allies by invading Belgium. The German military was so strong that it overtook the Belgian capital of Brussels after only 72 hours, slaughtering the royal family of Belgium and leaving Belgium and its allies, including Schiltzberg, stunned. Schiltzberg, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom of Great Britain, and the Republic of France all declared war on Germany within several days of this happening. The Allies acted fast to prevent the Germans from attacking further nations, and Luxembourg and Great Britain attacked German troops in Belgium, while Schiltzberg and France invaded German territory. The Germans fought back hard, and they were able to push through Belgium into Schiltzbergian territory, forcing Schiltzberg to retreat and defend its own border with Belgium. The Allies signed an agreement with the Russian Empire and the United States of America, and the reinforcements from these nations allowed the Allies to begin to push back the Central Powers, which were led by Germany. The Russians invaded Germany from the east, and the rest of the Allies closed in on Germany from the west, and finally were able to break back into German territory in March of 1916. The German capital was overtaken, and the government was overthrown, as Schiltzberg and its allies won the war in May of 1916. Schiltzberg claimed much of the western German territory, expanding its own empire significantly. Belgium was administered by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in an effort to restore its government, but the natives started a movement to be absorbed into Luxembourg, and a referendum was passed to absorb Belgium into Luxembourg in November of 1919. France, Great Britain were given the imperialist territories of Germany, and Russia was given the part of Germany that has been called Prussia. The Allies created a new, democratic government in Germany, much at the pushing of the United States and France, but much to the dismay of Schiltzberg, which wanted to create a new monarchy, preferably from their own royal family to create an alliance with the Germans. Peace was temporarily gained.

The Germans began to stir again, as they recovered from the horrible war. There was a strong economic depression, and this angered the Germans, who blamed the depression on Schiltzberg. In September of 1939, Germany invaded Schiltzberg and once again started a world war. Italy and Japan joined Germany in its conquest of world domination, as Italy aided Germany in its European and African conquests, and Japan led its own Pacific and Asian conquests. The Allies reassembled, as the Schiltzbergers and every other European nation except for Germany and Italy declared war on the Axis Powers, and the United States declared war on Japan after being attacked in December of 1941. The Germans showed early dominance in the war, gaining a lot of territory very quickly, and Schiltzberg was forced to temporarily move its government to Versailles, which was much farther west from the front line than New Schiltzbierg was. It was a good thing too, because New Schiltzbierg was overtaken, and the Germans claimed "East Schiltzberg" for their own. Schiltzberg was not defeated yet though, as they fought back with their allies and regained the land. Meanwhile, the Americans were fighting bitterly against the Japanese in the Pacific, recapturing island nations that had previously been taken by the Japanese. The Americans got involved in the African conquest after receiving a message from the Republic of Mexico that the Germans had offered Mexico an alliance if it would invade the United States. The Germans were winning the war in Europe, but then made the mistake of provoking Soviet Union, which had previously been known as Russia, and this almost immediately resulted in their beginning to lose ground. They had opened up another front of the war and were unable to maintain their efforts. Captured land was retaken by the allies, who closed in on rivaling Germany, and the Germans surrendered in January of 1944. The Allies were furious that they had allowed the Germans to continue to have a government after the first World War, and this time, they allowed Schiltzberg to annex what remained of German territory, as well as Switzerland and Austria, which had supported the German effort, wiping Germany off the map. The Soviet Union was allowed to annex the German satellite state of Poland, and France was allowed to annex North Italy, while the United Kingdom was given South Italy as an imperial territory. Great Britain later sold this territory to France for money in an alliance treaty. The United States was allowed to keep all of the island nations as its territories, and was also given a great amount of land in Africa that had previously belonged to Germany, but this land was lost to the independence movement over the next decade. The people of Luxembourg voted to be annexed by Schiltzberg in 1948 in a referendum, so this gave Schiltzberg control of most of central Europe.

In the 1950s, Schiltzberg adopted moderate socialism, and was seen as the moderate of European politics, with the Soviet Union as the extreme communist and Great Britain and France as extreme capitalists. It was good to have neutral Schiltzberg separating these powers, and this is what prevented another World War from happening.

In the dawn of the third millennium, many began to question the legitimacy of a monarchy, including Schiltzberg's own leader, Grand Duke Lucas I. On March 31, 2014, Lucas stepped down as Grand Duke and approved a democratic constitution into law that would allow for the election of the head of state, who was the President. This was Schiltzberg's form of government for forty years of relative peace and mediocrity, until a man named James Williams was elected President in 2046. Williams was an extremist who fought to create nationalism in the country and strengthen government in Schiltzberg, in the case of war. He invaded France, which had been Schiltzberg's ally, and won the war because of Schiltzberg's outrageous military spending. In the treaty that ended the war, Schiltzberg annexed all of the Italian Peninsula, greatly increasing its land area. Schiltzberg asserted its dominance, and became an imperial power when its navy invaded several islands off of the coast of Asia. Nationalism was at its peak in Schiltzberg, and Williams was elected to a second term in 1950. He continued his controversial policies in his second term, but received a blind eye from foreign powers, because they feared his military strength. In 1954, Williams was to be removed from office, due to a clause in the constitution that limited a President to two terms. Williams asked for an amendment to be passed that would allow him to serve a third term, but the legislature unanimously voted down this amendment. Williams was outraged, and declared that he would refuse to step down as President. The following day, the congress voted to impeach him, and the Justice Council called for an impeachment trial. WIlliams then had the military assassinate all members of congress and the Justice Council, and declared himself the Emperor of Schiltzberg. Emperor James, as he called himself, declared war on France once again, and invaded. France and all of its allies, including Great Britain and the United States declared war on the rebel government and wished to restore peace in Schiltzberg. The Soviet Union also declared war on Schiltzberg out of fear of invasion. After six months, the government was overthrown, and the Schiltz Dynasty was restored, with Lucas III, grandson of Lucas I, as the new Grand Duke. Now there have been two decades of peace since the ancient government was restored, and most Schiltzbergers live happily in peace.

Baseball
Since joining the World Baseball Classic for the first time in WBC 33, Schiltzberg has showed nothing but sheer dominance in the face of unworthy competition. Schiltzberg had refused to officially join international sports for many years, as the nation was relatively isolationist, but their national sport had always been baseball, and the international community constantly seemed to challenge them on the legitimacy of their love for their national pastime. Schiltzberg emerged quite to the shock of the world to announce that it would participate in WBC 33. No one knew what to expect from the Schiltzbergian team, but they soon found out. The Schiltzbergers went 16-6 over the course of the season, and won the championship in their first tournament, which had never been done before, except for in the first WBC ever. In WBC 34, Schiltzberg got off to an incredible start, going 22-8, but then was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, much to the surprise of the baseball world, finishing with a record of 22-11. Schiltzberg bounced back with another championship in WBC 35, finishing with an astonishing 20-7 record. They continued their legacy in WBCs 36 and 37, winning both of those as well, the records being 35-14 and 35-11, respectively. The last Classic was Schiltzberg's best yet, with its best record. The team just seems to be getting better and better and seems to be somewhat unstoppable. Despite having only played in five seasons, the Schiltzbergian team has already set so many records and achieved so many achievements. They are one of two teams to have won four titles, and are the only team to do so over a five-season period. They also are only the second team to win three titles in a row, going all the way back to the first three tournaments. Schiltzberg was also elected as the President of the World Baseball Classic council and will be inducted into the World Baseball Classic Hall of Fame by default at the end of WBC 38.

The Grand Duchy of Schiltzberg offers the tournament use of Royal Dome, home of the New Schiltzbierg Grand Dukes of the NBLS, which is owned and paid for by the taxpaying citizens of New Schiltzbierg. The elegant stadium is the only stadium in the NBLS to have a fixed roof, but the elegant stadium is dubbed as "unique" rather than "outdated" for this feature. The stadium was built as Schiltzberg Stadium in 1978, and was host to several teams until it was bought by the NBLS when it was founded in 2000. The name was changed to Royal Dome in 2000. The New Schiltzbierg Grand Dukes have played at Royal Dome since 2000, and the New Schiltzbierg Prime Ministers (now the Presidents) also played there from 2000 to 2012.

ALL TIME RECORD (excluding olympiads): 40-38

After 3 average tournaments, the Southern Bears blossomed in the IBS IX about 4 cycles ago. The Southern Democratic States finished with a 5-3 record for 15 points in group A, tied with Frenline Delpha. Both teams had to play a tie breaker game for seeding. SDS lost the game 6-5 and had the 7th seed. They played against the #2 seed, the Bat Slaves. SDS won the series 2-1 against Gregoryisgodistan. SDS played the semi finals against Abanhfleft Revolution. The Bears lost the first game 9-2 but finally won the series 2-1. The Southern Democratic States was in the final against the United States of Devonta Thundersticks. Devonta won the first game 4-1 and the Bears won the next one 9-4. Devonta won the 3rd game 5-4 and SDS won the next one 3-2. In the 5th and final game of the IBS IX final, the Bears won 4-1!

Then the Southern Bears was missing in action until the team comes back recently for the XI olympiad as part of the North Eurasian Unified Sporting Team but short of their female players, the Bears didn't qualified with an atrocious 0-4 record. Then, the Southerners finished 4th in group A with a 13-17 record in the world baseball classic 37.

RP: #60 Milan Gaboric, #22 Alek Hercegovic, #41 Dominik Lucic, #66 Marko Markovic, #75 Anton Tvrtkovic

UTIL/DH: #40 Pavel Skusek
C: #20 Drazan Golubic, #27 Hasan Stojanovic

The batting order often varies but the backups are Alenovic, Kumpus, and Stojanovic for position players. Alenovic is a platoon player who can fill in for a struggling Dragic or Jovanovic in the corner infield spots. Kumpus is a backup due to his high strikeout rate. Stojanovic is a catcher who can fill the corner outfield slots on occasion if Kumpus has already been utilized. Skusek fills the middle infield positions and is powerful hitting.

ROLEPLAY PERMISSIONS
Choose my runscorers: Yes. I do periodically check for discrepancies in your RPs, though. I want people to have fun, but don't get wild about batting out of turn (which doesn't, as a rule, generally happen in South Yerfilagi baseball).
Choose my lineup: No. You must follow what I have written, unless I put a substitute fielder in a box at the bottom of my RPs. (Don't worry, I'm really forgiving about this; you'll probably get a TG from me about it.)
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes for starters, although you may substitute pitchers as needed.
Godmod scoring events: Yes.
RP injuries to my players: Yes, at a maximum of one (1) per game.
Godmod injuries to my players: Don't kill them or give any more than one (1) player a career- or season-ending injury.
Eject my players: Yes; a maximum of two (2) unless you TG me about a third.
Godmod other events: Don't get too crazy. If a human can't do it to us, your human can't either. If you're a 350-square-yard goo monster, don't try and stretch yourself a mile thin. You get the idea.
Use DH at home: We follow the MLB designated hitter rules.

Hrvatska i Prekodunavlje which has been devastated by war has to rebuild and sent teamless players at the World Baseball Classic 37. Nova Anglicana WBC 38 Roster

Image

Nickname: Lions
Acronym: NOV
Style Mod (if applicable): +1

Archbishop Stadium in the Capital of Londinium (35,000)
Image

Archbishop Stadium is the home stadium of the Londinium Capitols as well as the Nova Anglican national team. It is big and it plays big, with a serious nighttime marine layer, an enormous right-center gap known as "Triples Alley" and an imposing right field wall. It's not as hard on right-handed hitters, but is a fly ball pitcher's paradise. Many people are seen in the bay outside of the stadium attempting to catch home runs hit into the water or simply cruising the bay while enjoying the sound of the game on the radio.

Hosting: Home games against United States of Devonta

Yeoman Stadium in Eboracum (34,000)
Image

Yeoman Stadium is the home of the Eboracum Yeomen, located in Nova Anglicana's second-largest city. It is another pitcher's park, and especially difficult to get it out to right-center, but because of air resistance rather than distance to the fence. It recently hosted the 2nd BCC Finals, and the atmosphere at the ballpark and the culture of Eboracum make this a great destination.

Hosting: Home games against Abanhfleft

Royal Bank Park (31,000) in Durovernum Cantiacorum
Image

Royal Bank Park is home to one of the more successful clubs in recent NABL history, the DC Brewers. The park features a high right field wall with seats atop it, and lies beside the St. John River.

Hosting: Home games against -United States of American

Queen Charlotte Park (25,000) in Isca Dumnoniorum
Image

Queen Charlotte Park is the other newest park in the NABL, the home of the Isca Town Greens. It has recently undergone a green retrofit, and boasts solar panels and carbon neutrality. It plays neutral, favoring neither hitters nor pitchers.

Hosting: Home games against Titovija

Starting Rotation (order as given)
RHP #28 Brandon Ashton, 33, (R/R), - former top prospect now leads rotation, strong fastball/curve/change
LHP #32 Cole Mayberry, 32, - loves to throw his cutter at 94, spinning screwball confuses lefties and righties alike, developed a consistent change, fringy slider
RHP #19 Brendan Gunderson, 30 - power fastball at 96, solid changeup and curveball, still kind of rowdy off the field
RHP #11 Carson Whitten, 26 - Whitten was #1 pick years ago, elite curveball and 95 MPH fastball, future NT ace?
LHP #14 Jules Halstead, 31 - throws curveball, slider, straight and circle change in addition to 92 MPH fastball

Bullpen
LHP #57 John O'Brien, 26, - three legitimate off-speed pitches, big slow curve is best, will be long reliever or spot starter
LHP #48 Will Thornton, 25, - sharp control plus a 96+ MPH fastball, decent change, fringy curveball
LHP #46 Sidney Fleming, 36 - slings from a sidearm position, will be lefty specialist, sweet slider
RHP #38 Ross Long, 36 - average fastball, but good slider has righties flailing and change baffles lefties
RHP #43 Mike Markham, 30 - Markham flashes a mid-90s fastball (2 and 4-seam) and a hammer of a curveball
RHP #39 Christian Norton, 32 - power sinker at 93, control pretty solid, will be long reliever, spot starter, or late-inning guy
RHP #30 Zack Whiting, 30, - Two pitches, a mid-90s fastball and a sweeping slider
RHP #56 Brad Sanders, 31 - Sanders is a failed starter who has made it as a closer, fastball sits at 95 with a tricky slurve, changeup is decent as well
RHP #23 Colby Walker, 35 - Walker is a hard thrower (sits 96, touches 98) who developed secondary pitches to become DC Brewers closer

C #51 Bryan Lamb, 32, (S/R), - Lamb showed an extraordinarily developed eye for the strike zone in his career, not much power, but good defender with decent arm
C #18 Jamie Stephens, 32, (R/R), - Stephens slugged 20 homers in his last big league season, struck out 150 times as well, strong throwing arm but otherwise poor defensively
C #60 Gabe Roberson, 24 (R/R) - big arm and data say he's one of the best at framing pitches, lucky to hit .250 for now

1B #21 Anthony Brooks, 27, (R/R), - can really pick it at first, a real leader who will hit for average and moderate power, don't be surprised if he steals a few either
3B #26 Ken Morton, 27, (R/R), - good range with great arm, dead pull hitter with power
SS #11 Darrin Werner, 33, (R/R), - Werner is a five tool player who is one of the best in the league
2B #6 René Martel, 34, (S/R) - Martel is a superb defender, bat now solid as well, will not hesitate to drop one down
CI #50 Seth Armstrong, 24, (R/R), - Armstrong has light-tower power and a strong arm, limited mobility not a problem subbing at 1B
MI #25 Tyler McKenzie, 28, (L/R), - McKenzie is a former top prospect who has bloomed into a strong defender and solid left-handed bat, could be a NT starter in a year or two

OF #24 Ty Oliver, 27, (R/R) - Oliver is a freak of an athlete who has refined his game, massive power and speed with an amazing arm
OF #29 Brandon Maynard, 31, (L/L) - Maynard is a flashy character rarely seen without his trademark gold chain and diamond earring studs, strong arm, big bat, great speed, good defense
OF #27 Nick Barnett, 32, (S/L) - Sparkplug at the top of the lineup, can take a walk and steal a base, good D
OF #35 Chris Underwood, 26, (S/R) - Underwood's hit tool is still developing, but speed, defense, and arm are all top-notch
OF #40 Derrick Lane, 27, (L/L) - big arm and power bat, defense is a work in progress and he still whiffs a lot

Orlando Murray #55 (Manager)

Aubrey Bell #1 (Hitting Coach)

Greg Richardson #47 (Pitching Coach)

Dale Garner #9 (1st Base Coach)

Casey Cain #8 (3rd Base Coach)

Marcellus Maloney #15 (Bench Coach)

LLAMANEAN WBC38 ROSTER

They finally made a WBC final after three unsuccessful attempts, at least. It came a little too late to save Alex Cameron, but Colin Nittledeen's excellent performance is inspiring, and the former coach has been offered a two-WBC contract to build on his success. But with Schiltzberg quickly passing them by and Newmanistan returning from nonexistence, the Tigers find themselves third both in titles and in the rankings.

The team that won three Classics in eight years needs drastic improvement if they want to contend for their fourth championship. After a long championship drought, perhaps Newmanistan will finally prove the right location to grab a fourth.

JERSEYS! "Home" "Away"

The Tigers continue to use the popular blue-and-gold jerseys as their default style. The newest addition features three-colored trim and changed numbering. They’ll likely wear the home jersey the majority of the time in the knockout stages, if they make it.

Attempting to make more of a statement when the team actually wore the alternates, these new aways are designed to make a statement, with light blue lettering on a black shirt and sharp orange-white trim.

NICKNAME: The Tigers
MANAGER: Colin Nittledeen
ACHIEVEMENTS: Three WBC championships, five finals appearances, one IBS championship, co-hosts of WBC30
PLAYSTYLE:

The Tigers put speed and defense first: their entire starting lineup is at least above-average with the glove, and most are positional standouts. They're a little bit less aggressive on average than one would expect on the basepaths, but if pitcher or catcher can't hold runners on very well, they won't hesitate to rack up the stolen bases. The team doesn't rely on one single batter to knock in runs; the team is a bit less powerful than others of its caliber, but most players get their fair share of extra-base hits by hitting a disproportionate number of doubles and triples. Pitchers generally excel at pitch command and sequencing, and most manage to get above-average spin and movement on their balls.

The team is noted for their intense study of both analytics and video, thus making them a bit different from most national teams. This is seen both in team selection and in preparation for games.

STADIA:
Diamond Park (35,000) in western Ruby Falls, home to ABC Ruby, will host matches against Outworld.
The Ultradome (39,600), located in the northern city of Emerald Springs, will host matches against Jeckland.
Esperansa Field (37,500), in the southern city of Los-Juantos, is the only stadium of the four that did not host WBC30 matches. The park, a newly-constructed stadium on the oceanfront, is actually named after Esperanza Banking, a prominent local company, not directly from the Hicañan word for "hope". Will host matches against West Phoenicia
Tyler Rocke Memorial (43,500) in downtown New Llama City, former host of the WBC30 finals and a number of Baseball Club Championships matches. Will host matches against Newmanistan.

INFIELDERS
Sofia RASMUSSEN, #05, 27, C-1B, R/R
2026 season: .388/.431/.560, 18 HR, 65 RBI, 2 SB
Nicholas ROUSSEAU, #06, 24, 1B-LF-RF, L/L
2026 season: .279/.360/.528, 37 HR, 108 RBI, 5 SB
Hector RINALDI, #13, 22, MIF-CF, R/R
2026 season: .309/.358/.455, 18 HR, 75 RBI, 16 SB
Markus WRIGHT, #24, 22, UTIL, S/R
2026 season, .329/.394/.466, 15 HR, 72 RBI, 24 SB
Stefan DANILO, #07, 34, 3B-LF-RF, S/R
2026 season: .310/.374/.486, 23 HR, 90 RBI, 15 SB

Catcher Sofia Rasmussen remains a Llamanean star and arguably the world’s best catcher: one of the team’s leaders, she’s a brilliant pitch-framer and an expert contact hitter (holding, as of last season, the national record for seasonal batting average at .417) who has found considerable power recently. Nicholas Rousseau, despite his deceiving height of five-nine, is known for both his slugging bat and defensive acumen, and will replace fellow power hitter Blair Everett in the starting lineup. Up the middle, the team will play the dynamic pairing of Hector Rinaldi, brother of national team footballer Stefan, and former college superstar Markus Wright: it should be an absurdly good double-play pairing, and both can hold their own on offense as well. Finally, veteran third-baseman Stefan Rinaldi offers considerable doubles power and excellent defense despite his declining athleticism - his diving stops have become slightly less frequent, but his pinpoint throwing accuracy remains.

It’s hard to not like this infield. Sofia Rasmussen is an absolute standout at catcher, and the other four players are some of the best the nation has to offer offensively and defensively. Better yet, Rousseau, Rinaldi, and Wright are all very young - this configuration still has a lot left.

Emily MOYES, #25, 32, C-1B, S/R
2026 season: .275/.390/.425, 12 HR, 55 RBI, 0 SB
Neil TRABAJEN, #59, 20, C-1B, R/R
2026 season: .300/.347/.460, 17 HR, 72 RBI, 0 SB
James HAO, #11, 24, 3B-2B, S/R
2026 season: .357/.399/.440, 3 HR, 52 RBI, 47 SB
Adam DONALD, #33, 27, UTIL, L/R
2026 season: .314/.382/.480, 20 HR, 75 RBI, 13 SB

Cameron has compiled a very solid bench. Moyes is a veteran switch-hitter and can fill in for Sofia Rasmussen behind the plate, while lefty-bashing prospect Neil Trabajen will get his share of pinch-hit at-bats for Rousseau, who has a fairly high platoon split, or Rasmussen. James Hao, a starter last Classic and one of the fastest players in the Llamanean leagues, will fill in for Rinaldi or Danilo, while super-utility-man Adam Donald offers a lefty-hitting bat and strong defense at nearly every position.

OUTFIELDERS

Tanya ERICSSON, #26, 31, L/CF, R/R
2026 season: .299/.347/.525, 37 HR, 120 RBI, 29 SB
Gudjon FRANDSEN, #28, 20, OF, R/R
2026 season: .302/.346/.425, 7 HR, 63 RBI, 50 SB
Lucien RUSSO, #32, 21, OF, S/R
2026 season: .283/.340/.536, 32 HR, 98 RBI, 30 SB

Despite the retirement of legendary right-fielder Owen Duffy, this outfield hasn’t missed a beat, with the surprise resurgence of Russo and the strong performance of Ericsson and Frandsen making this an outfield to watch. Tanya Ericsson undertook an intense training regimen over the offseason, and the effects showed in 2026: the slugging outfielder stole thirty bases and improved in the field. Despite her statline and paycheck, a childhood playing on the streets has hardened her into a fierce competitor and one of the leaders of the team, and with a bat in her hand, she’s exceptionally dangerous if a bit impatient. In center-field, Gudjon Frandsen offers the speed, defense, and doubles power that have defined recent Llamanean teams, and the young outfielder only continues to improve as he enters his twenties. In right-field, Lucien Russo has finally found the power that made him such a tantalizing prospect, and despite his tendency to strike out at high rates in late-game situations, he’s still the only 30-30 player in the Llamanean leagues last season and his baserunning instincts are impeccable.

Jason FERNANDEZ, #20, 32, OF, L/R
2026 season: .320/.385/.503, 24 HR, 85 RBI, 11 SB
Ava REINFELDT, #16, 25, OF-3B, R/R
2026 season: .276/.402/.426, 13 HR, 56 RBI, 25 SB
Fernandez, a key player on the WBC36, found his career derailed by a number of injuries. But after an exhausting recovery process, he returned last season for BC Apple Valley. The outfielder has definitely lost a step, but he hasn’t lost his instincts, and he’s managed to somehow add power and enhance his already-excellent contact skills after returning. Reinfeldt is considerably lesser-known and not especially athletic: but she’s one of the most patient players in the league, an underrated utilitywoman who offers great defense at a number of positions, and great instincts on the basepaths.

PITCHERS
note: the Tigers will experiment with starting rotations, likely playing all five for the first fifteen matches, but switch to a four-person rotation (likely demoting the fifth starter to long relief) after the halfway point of the group stage.

Justin ZHENG, #13, 29, R
2026 season: 23-5, 2.12 ERA, 260 IP, 289 K/77 BB
Zheng is both a fireballer and a dedicated student of the game. A former reliever who has now led the league in innings pitched for three of the past five seasons, he throws a mid-nineties fastball with movement and complements it with a number of decent breaking pitches - curveball, changeup - as well as his legendary slicing 93-mph shuuto, dubbed longdexuanzhuan by fans of his hometown Nandaozhou Sharks.

Angeline ROMERO, #40, 31, L
2026 season: 19-3, 2.07 ERA, 208 IP, 223 K/35 BB
A five-pitch pitcher with three dominant offerings and impeccable command who goes for pitch efficiency over brute force. Her fastball isn’t that good, flat and topping out at ninety. Her cutter and splitter, both mid-80s, though, will ensure a parade of whiffs and weak contact with their vicious late movement.

Brittany WICTORSSON, #48, 27, R
2026 season: 17-9, 2.88 ERA, 206 IP, 185 K/70 BB

Not your usual sinkerballer - Wictorsson throws two sinkers - the first is a fairly typical offering that can induce ground-balls, the second...not so much. Wictorsson’s second sinker, which looks nearly identical to her first, tends to move sharply downwards and slightly inwards (to same-handed hitters). She also features a decent changeup, which is used mostly to mix things up and keep hitters guessing, and throws her pitches in the low-nineties.

Jacob BURR, #47, 27, L
2026 season: 20-9, 3.00 ERA, 215 IP, 220 K/73 BB

Burr has managed to establish himself as one of the leading lights of City of Dinschria’s rotation in a short period of time. While most would point to his tall frame, muscular physique, and mid-to-high-nineties fastball as causes for this, he would point to his seemingly-unimpressive curveball. The combination of a 11-to-3 curve and the fastball, which has a lot of spin, has managed to fool hitters effectively, and he backs the combination up with a decent enough sinker.

Madeline HENDRIKS, #36, 25, R
2026 season: 16-8, 2.77 ERA, 186 IP, 195 K/40 BB

Despite playing for the lowly Derrierton Surge, Maddie Hendriks has quietly become one of the better pitchers in the league. She took an unconventional path to the Llamanean Baseball League, playing in three different countries in two years after leaving college before being drafted first overall by the Surge last season. It seems to have worked: her first season established her as one of the best in the league. Hendriks’ repertoire is fairly straightforward: a mid-90s four-seam fastball, a decent curveball with high spin rates and velocity, a shuuto picked up playing abroad, and a changeup with lots of vertical movement. However, her ability to mix pitches and keep hitters off-balance, pitching to weak contact, is the main reason behind her success.

A note: these are their recommended roles, but most of these are elite Llamanean relievers and can fill other roles pretty well. In the Llamanean baseball leagues, roles tend to be flexible. The closer usually isn't the best pitcher - that'd be the fireman. Think Dellin Betances or 2014 Wade Davis - not just limited to the ninth inning, but to the most high-leverage situations. Cameron has continued to modernize his bullpen management, and this could begin to be true for the closer as well. Specialty pitches are marked with an asterisk. The Middle Long reliever will usually be relied on in 5+ out situations (e.g. a 6-3 lead in the sixth inning or something).

Long: Felix GONZALEZ, #60, 27, R - fastball, shuuto*, sinker, changeup
LOOGY: Brad CARSTEN, #56, 31, L - two-seam fastball*, slurve
Middle Long: Patrick KARJALAINEN, #57, 26, R - fastball, curveball, changeup*
Middle: Megan VANDENBERG, #54, 28, R - fastball, splitter*, circle change
Middle: Henrik LONG, #48, 29, L - fastball, cutter*
Middle: Hanna VALENTIN, #43, 33, L - two-seam fastball*, slurve
Middle: Martin SORENSON, #39, 26, R - fastball, sinker*, slurve
Closer: Jason VAN DIJK, #51, 23, L - fastball*, cutter*, sinker, changeup
Fireman: Troy VASQUEZ, #50, 35, R - fastball, shuuto***, cutter***, changeup

Manager: Colin NITTLEDEEN, 55 (Manager, Rogers BC)
Bench Coach: Jason COOLIDGE, 62 (Manager, New Llama Cyclones)
Pitching Coach: Jamie MORTENSEN, 55 (Pitching Coach, Rogers BC)
Hitting Coach: Myra FRANDSEN, 43 (Hitting coach, BC Apple Valley)
First-base Coach: Kevin NEILLSON, 59 (First-base coach, New Llama Wizards)
Third-base Coach: Trevor HOFFPAUIR, 62 (Third-base coach, Rogers City)
Bullpen Coach: Michael WANG, 54 (Pitching Coach, Nandaozhou Sharks)
Team Trainer: Rick AMELIO, 60 (Trainer, South Bryant)
Video Coordinator: Celia JOHANSSON, 54 (Video Coordinator, New Llama Cyclones)
Strategy Consultant: Wilson VALDEZ, 47 (Director of In-Game Strategy, Oslerholm Storm)
Head Advance Scout: Britt JOHANSSEN, 50 (Director of Scouting, South Falls)

The era of Alex Cameron has ended after three and a half Classics, and a number of his hand-picked coaches have left with him. Colin Nittledeen, who led the team to a 12-3 record in the second half of the group stage and took Schiltzberg to seven games in the finals, has replaced him. Although quiet, the BC Rogers manager is a strong leader and an expert tactician who isn't afraid to experiment.

The others are all some of the best coaches around the nation - leaders and innovators, every last one, in their own way. Special notice was given to clubhouse chemistry. Only a few minor changes have been made - Trevor Hoffpauir has become third-base coach, while Myra Frandsen of Apple Valley becomes the first female coach of the national team, replacing Bryce Flowers. An advance scouting department led by South Falls’ Britt Johanssen has also been created - featuring three scouts, they’ll collaborate with strategy consultant Valdez and Video Coordinator Johansson to prepare the players.

RISE FROM THE ASHES: HICAÑA WBC38 ROSTER

It's been a long and hard battle to get to where they are today. Ever since the Hicañan Civil War broke out, the nation has struggled to return to stability and resolve the underlying tensions that led to the number of conflicts Hicaña has recently been pushed through.

With foreign assistance, the nation managed to purge itself of President Sandoval's autocratic, far-right regime. Unfortunately, efforts to set up a new government led by Solomon Ervine failed, and Hicaña finally collapsed into non-existence. Now, a number of expatriates are beginning to re-introduce the idea of Hicaña with the Society of Hicañans Abroad, which is beginning to resettle the nation. And the nation's fledgling sports teams could play a vital role in engaging Hicañans.

Postby Kinzenland » Sat Dec 17, 2016 1:04 pm

The government of Kinzenland wishes to participate in this baseball tournament. Instead of sending our best baseball players, the President has chosen to send some of a bunch of hardcore prisoners with the purpose of providing them with a humbling experience as part of the punishment. In other words, the government expects them to lose and is hoping they will be embarrassed and humiliated in the process. The prisoners were reluctant to agree, and only did so on the condition of that for every game they may win, one of them is freed at the end of the tournament, and is to be entirely exonerated of their criminal record. The government is not too worried and agreed with the conditions.

As these are prisoners and not official baseball players, there are no stats associated with them. Also, they have been placed at positions where the prison guards feel that they would perform the worst (not the best).

Home games are played in the national capital of Taylorsville, at the Taylorsville Stadium. Note that our fans will not be rooting for the prisoners, and will in fact be rooting for the opponent at all times. So in effect, your road game here will be a lot like a home game.

The stadium seats 48,330. Outfield dimensions are: LF- 382 feet, CF- 409 feet, RF- 386 feet.

The team will be kept off limits to fans at all times and while on the road will be guarded by the finest of Kinzenland security to make sure that they do not escape into your country.

NEWMANISTAN ROCKETS
Four-Time WBC Champions
Seven-Time WBC Finalists
"Still The Best Ever"

At one time, the Empire of Newmanistan was the most feared nation in all of international baseball. Making it to the finals in their inaugural appearance, Newmanistan would ultimately win four championships in its time of participation from WBC’s 7-19. It took almost another 19 World Baseball Classics for another nation to come along and be able to win four times. It is correct that our team is made up entirely of women. Why change something that works, after all, it worked when we made it to the finals in WBC 7, and continued to do so, and the concept thrived further with our rivalry with Cassadaigua back in the day. Gotta stick with it!

After World Baseball Classic 19, Newmanistan no longer participated and seemed to just be an entry for the history books for current active nations to look towards. Almost out of no where, the Empire announced that it was returning for the 38th Classic. Then, the decision to do more then just return, and to host, was made. The Council approved the bid, and now the Empire hopes to pick right up where it left off. We’ll see what happens, shall we?

For those who don't know our nation well: Newmanistanian players and fans are very arrogant about their past successes. (I see Schiltzberg is as well, this could be a good rivalry!)

Let’s start with the technicalities:
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No, my lineup is listed here. Use that!
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes. I will normally include upcoming pitchers in my prior RP.
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes, but only say they are hurt. I will determine the severity.
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Eject my players: Yes, on a basis of no more then one more then you eject from your own team.
Godmod other events: No
Use DH at home: Another “Hell no!” here

Additional Information that is very important to me: Newmanistan does not prescribe to the modern day concept of pitch counts determining how long a starting pitcher is kept in for. In fact, pitch counts are not even kept track of outside of curiosity sake. Such count is not displayed on the scoreboard, so if you want to track it for your pitcher, you must do it manually.

– If Newmanistan has given up 2 runs or less and WON, then the starting pitcher has gone all nine innings. No ifs, ands, or buts. This is true even if it would have been a save situation.

– Another Newmanistan trait is aggressive base stealing. Think back to the days of Vince Coleman and Ricky Henderson in their primes.

Home Stadium (MD’s 1-10): Tundra Falls Proving Grounds, Tundra Falls
Home Stadium (MD’s 11-20): Keisler Stadium, Southport
Home Stadium (MD’s 21-30): Emperor Michael IV Stadium, Pocono City
Stadium details will be added in to the overall post on stadium details (3rd post on thread).

Team Nickname: Rockets
Cultural: Natives of Newmanistan are referred to as Newmanistanians.
Uniforms: Pretty much, think Kansas City Royals with sky blue. Home are sky blue.

COACHING STAFF
Head Coach: Ashley Stevens, 53, Loudon Leopards
– Daughter of former Newmanistanian superstar pitcher Jessica Brasfield. Ashley went on to have a fantastic career in her own right, and will do her best to make sure that the Rockets live up to their legendary pitching performances of the past. The Leopards are the dominant pitching team at home. She is honored to be only the second coach ever in Newmanistan baseball history and knows she has big shoes to fill.

Hitting Coach: Chelsea Benjamin, 50, Pocono City Capitals
– Hit for decent power in her playing career, but she had an uncanny knack for being able to make contact. She is studious in observing a player’s mechanics, and can usually pick up on problems quickly to make sure hitting slumps are temporary.

Pitching Coach: Tracianne Conti, 51, Loudon Leopards
– Works with Murphy in Loudon to make sure that everything is perfect with the pitching. Conti is astute on being able to decipher when a pitcher is getting tired, and does not only use a pitch count number to do that. Intelligent on bullpen usage as well.

Starting Rotation:
(We don’t reference our starters as a #1, #2, etc as they are all aces, and are references as 1A, 1B, etc.)

1A) Courtney Duvall, 25, LHP, Loudon Leopards (#22)
– Duvall is a dominant pitcher at home that puts up some amazing numbers. In just four seasons, she has already won the Keisler (Cy Young) Award two times. She is tall, and while she can and will beat you with a fastball, it is her curveball and slider that make her so dominant. A splitter is also part of repertoire.

1B) Breanne Burks, 26, RHP, Tundra Falls Saints (#43)
– Burks has a little bit better fastball then does Duvall. She will come at you aggressively with it quite often. However, just when hitters think that they might get that figured it out, she changes speeds like a true master with a changeup that makes many batters look silly. Her curveball is also something that must be respected.

1C) Kaitlyn Carroll, 23, RHP, Southport Tigers (#36)
– The youngster surprised many in her rookie season by being able to make an immediate impact, and her career has simply taken off. Being the ace in Southport is the real deal, as this is where the Keisler’s played. Carroll gets it done with a sinker, slider, and splitter. Her fastball is average, but her dominance with the breaking pitches makes it better then it really would be otherwise.

1D) Lauren Visconti, 28, LHP, Centralia Cougars (#32)
– The oldest member of the starting rotation is turning heads while in her prime at home. Her top pitches are her curveball and her cutter, and she’ll even throw a screwball once in a while. Speaking of screwballs, some say that can also define her, as sometimes she’ll throw at a batter a little more then desired.

1E) Tara McIntyre, 24, RHP, Loudon Leopards (#26)
– A teammate of Chelsea Duvall’s with the Leopards, McIntyre has a high degree of confidence in her ability and will always come right after a batter. She does not mess around with picking corners and challenges them to beat her at her best. Most will fail in doing so. The curveball is her out pitch, but also has a strong fastball and slider.

Bullpen:
(Smaller then most due to nation’s reliance on starters)

Closer) Shannon Spencer, 30, RHP, South Charlotte Condors (#44)
– Like most closers, Spencer will bring the heat. However, a wicked cutter and a splitter mixed in means hitters can’t always think fastball.

Set-up) Meghan Girardi, 26, LHP, Loudon Leopards (#31)
– The closer in Loudon, Girardi is similar to Spencer and will be used in a set-up role for the most part, but could close a game or two or three herself. Could also be used in any standard short relief situation.

Jennifer Hughes, 21, RHP, Jessicaville Millionaires (#42)
– A starting pitcher at home that will be used in long relief situations, or in extra innings. She has all the tools, including an outstanding curve and slider, but her moneymaker is the fastball. Since she’s young, she’s not in the rotation but figures to be eventually.

Kelsey Winkler, 25, LHP, Springfield Thoroughbreds (#40)
– A reliable reliever for mid-inning situations. Normally will be used for 2-3 innings at a time. Could go as much as five.

Alyssa Mackey, 27, RHP, Tundra Falls Saints (#48)
– A versatile pitcher that could go as many as five innings, but is generally only going to be looked on in short relief.

Now, let’s meet the offense, shall we?

STARTING LINEUP (Throws/Bats)

1) Hannah Bates- CF (R/S), 24, Putnam Lake Eagles (#8)
– Get your catcher ready, but even then it might not be enough. Bates is a pure contract hitter, and because of her amazing speed, she can turn singles into doubles, and leg out many infield singles. She has a good eye, and that walk you may surrender may soon end up a three base walk. Epitomizes the Newmanistanian legend of aggressive base stealing, and has no worries about stealing third as well. Doesn’t hit homers over the fence, usually, but can get the inside the park variety every now and then.

2) Lexi Alcorn- LF (R/S), 25, Springfield Thoroughbreds (#15)
– So what’s even more of a pain in the neck then having to deal with someone like Bates in the leadoff spot? Having a clone of hers batting second, like Alcorn.

3) Brittany Morgan- 3B (R/S), 29, Olympia Gladiators (#30)
– Morgan is very capable of popping 40 or so HR’s over the fence in a 162-game season at home, but she also maintains a career batting average of .336. Expect her to be driving home those top two often.

4) Mallory Harris- 1B (L/S), 24, Southport Tigers (#27)
– The most dominant offensive player in Newmanistan today. Mallory can get it done in all aspects, hitting for power and average while also providing gold glove caliber defense. Oh, and she’s not afraid to steal a base or two, either. She also knows she’s good, and enjoys showboating. The type of player you love if they are on your team, and hate otherwise.

5) Kayla Carey- SS (R/R), 23, North Charlotte Wildcats (#5)
– Provides amazing defense in the middle of the infield, but also has a career batting average of .352, ranking tops in Newmanistan among active players. Sneaky power, and average 20-25 HR’s in a 162 game season. Speedy on the bases.

6) Kelsey Brandis- RF (L/L), 24, Pocono City Capitals (#7)
– The leadoff batter of the Capitals, and has much of the same attributes as Bates and Alcorn, although the third of three when it comes to speed between them. Kelsey has some deceptive power in her bat as well.

7) Michelle Covington- 2B (R/S), 25, Jessicaville Millionaires (#4)
– Known for a high level of swagger and flair, she loves to talk up with the best of them. She can hit too, and is more of an extra base hit threat then a power threat.

8) Destiny Marshall- C (R/S), 34, Loudon Leopards (#39)
– Great behind the plate in calling a game. She’s only an average hitter with the bat, but don’t go thinking she’s an easy out.

9) Pitcher

DH When Necessary: Rachel Landry (3B)- A power threat, who misses out in the numbers game at the position to have a chance to start.
Note: When the DH is used, Landry HITS SIXTH. Insert her over Brandis, and then just move the others down one.

Bench:
(more here then most because of the smaller bullpen)

Rachel Landry- 3B (when DH not used) (#18)
Hannah Kent- C, 26, Concord Broncos (only used as defensive substitution, never to pinch hit) (#38)
Christine Hansen- CI, 30, Tundra Falls Saints (#19)
Kenzie Magee- MI, 23, Centralia Cougars (#11)
Ashley McCabe- OF, 31, Daytopia Racers (#12)
Meghan Streeter- OF, 23, Centralia Cougars (#17)
Jessica Novotny- Utility, 25, Pocono City Capitals (#9)

THE ROCKET REPORT

An interview with Newmanistan Rockets head coach, Ashley Stevens,
by Brianne Henry

As you all have heard, Newmanistan is not only returning to the World Baseball Classic, but will be hosting the tournament. It is so exciting to know that a championship series will take place at the Tundra Falls Proving Grounds once again. Can Newmanistan get back there, again, so soon? So, we also have this nation of Schiltzberg who has been successful, may the two teams meet? Can Newmanistan even make it out of a group that features Super-Llamaland? I asked these questions and more to new Rockets head coach, Ashley Stevens. Here is what she had to say!

BH: Hello, Ashley, thank you for joining us today.

AS: Thanks, Bri.

BH: What went through your mind when you were named head coach of this team? Only one other person has ever coached the Rockets.

AS: It is obviously quite an honor. Christina (Sanders) left quite a legacy, and it is one that will be forever cherished. I can only be myself, so I am not really going to compare myself with her. I am really honored, but this is a new era, now.

BH: Speaking of a new era, why do you think the Empire has come back?

AS: I think the announcement caught a lot of us off guard. As a nation, we just felt like we did all we could do, and there was nothing left to accomplish. I can understand that, and we have been happy just staying at home. But now, I think there is just a newly found desire to reassert ourselves as the best in the world against a newer crowd.

BH: Is it like a new tournament with all the new faces?

AS: It’s the same tournament, just with a different feel. I think a lot of our old fans will start watching the tournament and start checking to see where Zwangzug and Cassadaigua are in the standings, then realize they aren’t there. It’s different now.

BH: Schiltzberg has matched our four championships. What are your thoughts on that?

AS: I think it says a lot about our achievement that it took 18 classics for another team to get to four. It was inevitable, eventually.

BH: They made it look really easy. What do you think about their team?

AS: I think they’re awesome. Look, they are exactly what this tournament needed, a dominant presence with tons of swagger to go with it. I love that they know they are good, its so much like the old school Rockets. They will be good for a real long time.

BH: Some will say they are better positioned to win number five before Newmanistan. What happens to our legacy if they do?

AS: They never had to play Cassadaigua, Zwangzug, Tocrowkia, Qazox, or Sarzonia. They’ve had Super-Llamaland. If they win five, then they will have won more titles then us, but it’s a different time now, and it doesn’t impact our legacy any. Two different eras, we had ours, they have theirs now. Only difference is they can’t go back in time to affect ours, but we can now with theirs.

BH: Do you want to play them?

AS: Of course I do. It’s not in the Newmanistanian mindset to not want the best. Like I said, I love not just what they are doing, but how they are doing it. In the meantime, we can send a message to them by beating their rival, Super-Llamaland, in our group.

BH: With the Tigers of Super-Llamaland in the group, qualifying could be tough.

AS: Not at all. Two teams qualify from the group, so there’s room for both of us. It’s the rest of the group that should be trembling about qualification.

BH: What is the goal for the Rockets?

AS: Winning it all. This nation never sets lower goals then that in the Classic.

BH: Is that realistic though?

AS: We’re the Rockets of Newmanistan. Yes it is.

BH: What happens if the Rockets don’t qualify out of the group?

AS: That thought isn’t even in my head, Bri. We’re ready to roll. We don’t necessarily have to beat Super-Llamaland in the group, but at the end of the day, no one else in this group concerns me. We’ll get in the top two.

BH: That’s all the time I have for now, any final comments?

AS: Enjoy the Classic. There’s a bunch of nations we are not familiar with, but take the time to get to know them. There are a lot of fascinating stories that will take place, and when those who qualify come here, it will be amazing to see them in action. Still, remember that the Rockets have been unranked before and things went pretty well. Perhaps we might need a few games to get going a little bit. But once we do, it should be business as usual.

BH: And on that note, thank you very much, Ashley.

AS: Thank you!

Southerners' roster getting praise

Last year's Southerner roster was recently voted "The most beautiful baseball roster in the multiverse" by a panel of baseball experts from Newmanistan. The detailed roster, published both online and in a paper vesion, featured a brief history of the national team, a picture of our uniforms and the full roster with or without a designated hitter. The roster itself had the players position, jersey number, first and last name of every baseball player on the team, his age, batting side, SLB team and finally his birthplace. This year's roster is no different and is available for journalists all around the multiverse to download online for 4,99$ SDD (Southern Dollar) or purchase in paper version for 9,99$ SDD.

Lions Take Game 1 of Super-Llamaland Exhibition
by Alpha Lion

Image

Nooice indeed.

The Nova Anglicana Lions have a long history with the Super-Llamaland Tigers in baseball. Whether it was the International Baseball Slam or the World Baseball Classic, these two teams have clashed many times, with neither team having the upper hand for long. So it was a no-brainer for Minister of Sport Brian Austin and national team manager Orlando Murray when officials from Super-Llamaland called, wanting to set up a three-game exhibition prior to the WBC. The Tigers are ranked 3rd, the Lions 4th. High-ranked teams with a long history playing a potential WBC preview in two baseball-loving nations? That's a home run. (Editor's Note: Yes, we're aware of this horrible pun and he has been suitably punished for this pernicious act.)

Anyway, the series was set up so that the first game would be played in Londinium, at Archbishop, and the other two games in Super-Llamaland. In a press conference, Murray pitched it as a good test for his team. "We are really looking forward to the opportunity to play one of the best teams in the world on their home fields. Thousands of screaming, hostile fans and a really good opponent? That's what happens once you get to the WBC playoffs. We intend to make it past the quarterfinals this year, and we think this is going to help us do it."

Well, if this is how the Lions are going to play in the WBC playoffs (assuming they make it), then things are looking up for WBC 38. Game 1 of the series was a hard-fought affair that ultimately went to the Lions. Brandon Ashton, Lions ace, took the mound and tossed five innings of shutout ball with five strikeouts to begin the game. The only blemishes on his line through five were a pair of hard-hit singles by catcher Sofia Rasmussen and a one-out walk issued to Nicholas Rousseau in the second. His opposite number, fireballer Justin Zheng, was nearly as good, giving up just two baserunners, both in the third inning. After setting down the first six Lions hitters in order, his first pitch to Anthony Brooks (the first pitch Brooks actually saw as the Lions' starting first baseman) was a fastball that drifted over the plate. It doesn't matter how hard you throw, if you throw it down the middle, good hitters are going to take advantage. Brooks lined a ball into the gap in right-center, and it had enough on it to elude Gudjon Frandsen and allow Brooks to roll all the way around to third base. Frandsen's a talent, but Archbishop's right-center gap is rough on even established veterans, and he just got caught off-guard. In a daring move, Murray called for the suicide squeeze. Martel's a good bunter and Brooks is sneaky fast, but that's a gutsy, some would say insane move with a runner on third and nobody out. But guess what? Murray's a genius, 'cause it worked. Martel laid down a perfect one between Zheng, Rousseau, and Hector Rinaldi the second baseman and Brooks got a great jump. Everybody was safe and the Lions led 1-0.

Unfortunately, after Ashton sacrificed Martel to second, Zheng bore down and struck out Nick Barnett and Brandon Maynard to end the threat. On to the sixth, when Ashton ran into a little trouble. He struck out Markus Wright for the second time, this time looking on a good changeup, but Rasmussen got around on a fastball and pulled it past Ken Morton for a one-out double. Stefan Danilo, batting from the left side, took Ashton to 3-2 before grounding sharply to the right side. Only a diving stop and throw from his knees by Martel kept him from reaching. Meanwhile, Rasmussen moved up to third base. With two outs, Ashton pitched around Tanya Ericsson, trying to face the strikeout-prone Lucien Russo, but Ericsson's a pretty good bad-ball hitter, and she punched a slider out of the zone into right field for a two-out RBI single. 1-1 ballgame. Ashton got mad, stomped around, and struck out Russo on four pitches, but the damage had been done.

With the pitcher's spot up first, Murray faced a choice. Ashton had a line of 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, which was great, and he'd be mad if he got taken out now. On the other hand, they had a nine-man bullpen for a reason, and Zheng was a guy you couldn't afford to give away any outs against. He sent up Derrick Lane, the power-hitting outfielder. Ashton fumed, but there wasn't anything he could do about it. Lane started out by chasing two bad pitches and putting himself in an 0-2 hole, but he refused to bite on three straight out of the zone and Zheng challenged him 3-2 with a 96 MPH fastball that he got good wood on. Lane walloped it into right-center; this time Frandsen did an excellent job to cut it off and hold Lane to just a single. Nick Barnett flied out to left, and headed back to the dugout with slumped shoulders. 0-3 will do that to you. Meanwhile, Zheng lost the handle on a couple of pitches and ended up falling behind 3-1 to Brandon Maynard. He threw the shuuto next, a ball with some wicked movement on it, but Maynard was sitting on it and crushed it, sending it all the way into the cove on the fly to give the Lions a 3-1 lead. Zheng set down Ty Oliver and Ken Morton on six pitches, and tossed another perfect inning to finish with a line of 7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 8 K. A great performance undone by two extra-base hits.

With a 3-1 lead, Murray elected to go with his specialists in the 7th. Sidney Fleming bedeviled Rousseau, getting him to chase a 78 MPH slider well outside the zone, and Ross Long followed with a steady diet of his own sliders to Frandsen and Rinaldi, setting them down on strikes. In the 8th, Long began the inning, so Jason Fernandez, the sweet-swinging lefty outfielder stepped up to the plate. Murray then yanked Fernandez in favor of Will Thornton, who power-pitched Fernandez into submission for the first out. Wright slapped a ball to right on the first pitch to get one on, and Thornton's get-me-over curve to Rasmussen was punished for her second double of the evening. With runners on third and second, Murray had Thornton walk Danilo to load the bases for Ericsson. Was it the smartest move? Probably not, but he brought in sinkerballer Christian Norton to try to get one ground ball to get the Lions out of it. Norton got his ground ball, but Ericsson was too fast for Darrin Werner and Martel, and she earned herself an RBI fielder's choice. Norton then got Russo to pound one into the ground to Brooks, who stepped on first to end the threat.

3-2 going into the bottom of the 8th. No runs for the Lions, but all they had to do was survive the 9th. This would be a big test for Colby Walker, the aging closer. Tigers manager Colin Nittledeen yanked Frandsen for Adam McDonald, a lefty-hitting bat, but Walker blew a 1-2 fastball by him for out number one. James Hao was the next reserve called on to face Walker, and he elected to bunt. It was a decent bunt, but Ken Morton was shading in just enough to grab it barehanded and sling it over to Brooks to get Hao by half a step. Emily Moyes came on to bat for the pitcher, and she would rap a 95 MPH fastball from Walker into left for a basehit. As Markus Wright (1-4) stepped up to the plate, Sofia Rasmussen (4-4) was on deck, and everyone in the stadium knew that this was the moment where the game would be won or lost. If Rasmussen got up, the smart money was on her getting a hit, which would almost certainly tie the game or even give the Tigers the lead. The first pitch was 97, fouled off. The second was 94, low and away, 1-1. The third pitch was another fastball, in on the hands, and Wright barely got a piece of it, 1-2. A high fastball at 96 was a little too easy for Wright to lay off of, 2-2. Having seen nothing but fastballs, Wright was sitting dead red, and so looked surprised when he saw that pitch #5 was in fact a slider. By the time he picked it up, he had already started to swing and ended up being too early on the 86 MPH pitch. He slammed his bat down in disgust as Walker slapped his glove in celebration. It felt like playoff baseball. Lions 3, Tigers 2.

There's still about a month to go until the WBC, and game 2 of this series will be held in three days' time in the Ultradome, with the Tigers no doubt out for revenge. It should be a great one.

AFTER VOTE, SCHILTZBERG STILL REMAINS NAMELESS

It has become laughable now, since this issue comes up every season, and every season there is the same result. The team that has by far been the best team in the World Baseball Classic for the past five seasons still is without an official name. The Schiltzbergian Baseball Committee, which is in charge of the team, held a vote last Saturday to determine what the team's name should be, and once again, they walked out undecided, and kept to the tradition of Schiltzberg's namelessness. It is now starting to become more of a tradition and more of a characteristic of the team, since Schiltzberg is the only major team in the World Baseball Classic that doesn't have a team name. Regardless of what the Committee says, the fans will still call the Schiltzbergers what they want, and so here are a few names that we have heard fans on the streets, in the stands, and on television calling the four-time champions.

The Schiltzberg Ducks
This name originates from World Baseball Classic 35, when the Schiltzbergers won a comeback victory in the Finals, over the underdog The Great Pond Ducks, who had surprised the world with their dominance that season. The Schiltzbergers began being called the Ducks because they handed out rubber duckies to their fans on the night that the comeback began, which was a game that has now been immortalized as "The Fitzhugh Game," and it is the game where Fitzhugh earned his nickname "Ducky." Since the duck game, Schiltzberg has never lost a World Baseball Classic, and many superstitious fans attribute the duck to Schiltzberg's success, and this is why they have nicknamed the team as such.

The Schiltzberg Schiltzbergers
In the International Baseball Slam, Schiltzberg was required to choose a name for its team, so they called themselves the Schiltzbergers, simply because that was the most simple thing that they could think of. Most fans, especially of rivaling teams, think that this name is a joke, and the Schiltzbergers have at times been mocked for their lack of a name or the lameness of their name, depending on how you view it. In the end, it is a tradition that is part of what makes the Schiltzbergian squad who they are.

The Schiltzberg Schiltz Burgers
This name originated during the International Baseball Slam, when Schiltzberg called itself the "Schiltzbergers," and many people misheard and thought that they were the "Schiltz Burgers," which is a famous fast food chain based out of Schiltzberg. The owner of the fast food chain, Dave Schiltz, saw this as an opportunity for publicity, and so he claimed that he had sponsored the team, and that the name was indeed the Schiltz Burgers. This created a great deal of confusion, and the Schiltzbergian Baseball Committee had to officially release a statement saying that they had not been sponsored by Dave Schiltz, and that the team name was "Schiltzbergers" and not "Schiltz Burgers." Some of the greatest fans of the team still feel attached to that nickname, and every baseball season, it is the superstition of a lot of fans to buy a hamburger from Schiltz Burgers in hopes that the team will win.

For now, and probably forever, the Schiltzbergian team will stay nameless on paper, but the fans will still call them whatever they want. It has become a tradition, almost a superstition, that Schiltzberg remains nameless. Hopefully, since they have still opted to not have an official name, they will continue to have success, but we will see soon enough.
