With 24 sign-ups we are getting into good numbers now - and I think it is worth putting out a proposed schedule at this point; I'll add this to the OP too if there are no objections.

So what would happen if we end up with a weird number of signups that isn't a multiple of 4?

Worst case scenario we could look at 5s @ 25 & 30 although that would extend the schedule by a couple of days which I'd prefer to avoid. I'll see where we get to later in the week, and probably draw provisional lines at 28, 32, 36 etc. (if we reach them), so others go on a wait list until a multiple of 4 is reached. I could throw in a puppet to make up the numbers if necessary, perhaps others who fit the two-nation criteria might do the same. Sign-ups have been steady so I think by Friday we would be in a position to identify the next realistic marker for cut-off and probably close it during the weekend.

Well, we seemed to have reached a capacity on this; I have one expression of interest via TG and I'm waiting on confirmation in this thread.

We have a sign-up milestone at this point of 24. I will accept additional sign-ups on a wait-list for acceptance at milestones 28 and then 32 teams.

I have updated the likely schedule.

Probable Schedule Edited for a slightly later start

10 DECEverything Thread Up

17 DEC}
19 DEC} Group Matches
21 DEC}

Additional day due to prior commitment of host

24 DECRound of Sixteen
26 DECQuarter-finals
28 DECSemi-finals

30 DECFinal & Third Place Play-Off

Cut-off time is likely to be 20:00-21:00 UTC to be confirmed

The everything thread is up and ready for your rosters

There is still potential to sign-up, although it will now be dependent on getting a batch of four. Sign-ups are likely to be semi-open for about 36 hours.

I have had a request via TG to consider delaying the start of the IAC to 26 Dec because of the holidays. I would be happy to do that if it was a preference among participants, and that also looks like it would be more concurrent with the regionals. It pushes the end date into early Jan with the BoF hot on its heels. Thoughts and opinions?

Perhaps start the group stage as normal and delay the playoffs until the 26th? It'll allow the tournament to have the appropriate holiday break while also making sure it doesn't spill all over January.

Now, I really only want this because I want a little break before the BoF since I'm participating in it, but I'd like to see how everyone else thinks about this.

I was the one who sent that TG - yes, Drawk's idea was what I meant. Do the group stage as normal, but do the Round of 16 on Boxing Day instead of Christmas Eve.

I don't know about everyone else but I would prefer for it to start later. Not only would it give more of a break for everyone to get ready, but I'm going to have to go away mostly for about a week so I might not get to post anything until the second match day or I might miss the group stage entirely.

I think the idea of Drawkland and Kaboomlandia is a good one, although for me personally, it doesn’t make too much difference. I too would be in favour of keeping the group stage the same, but pushing the knockouts back a little.

You also need to factor in time zones when giving a break for a specific day - a day actually lasts 48 hours in that case.

I will close sign-ups at this point then with a nice round 24. Tonight I'll update venues and the draw, and make a final decision about timing taking into consideration the comments from participants.

The group draw and venue details are now up.

Taking into consideration requests in this thread as best I could, I have gone for a slightly later start and a longer gap over the holiday, I hope this is a satisfactory compromise for all. First match day will be on Sunday evening five days from now. Good luck to all!

This is a 10-hour notification for the first ever cut-off in the Independents Cup; I thought it might be a useful flag for the start of the competition and probably should've been done about 14 hours ago; but there we are. Make rosters and RPs! Bring the words! You have the right to remain silent but anything you do write will be used as points against your name in the column marked 'bonus'.

I am enjoying this competition far beyond my own expectations, so my very early thanks and congratulations to Bonesea already for coining this tournament. Enjoying reading and writing alike.

And my apologies for going overboard literary in my last RP - blame the afterwork drinks.

Me too - it's shaping up nicely.

With the group stage complete, the IAC takes a holiday break now and returns on 27 December. I'll post a 24-hour reminder to get people back in the swing.

Looks like I missed cutoff today, but it didn't end up hurting me.

That holiday break is nice. I already write quickly and I don't think I'm going to be too busy even with the holidays, so expect me to get back to my best standard of writing by the time the break is over. I might finally get something up about how the team is doing in the locker room, also, since I haven't written about them since the BoF...
