NSCYH OOC Thread

Postby Kep » Mon Nov 21, 2016 7:54 pm

The Idea
Guys, this is an interest thread for college hockey. If this were to successfully form, I'd create a College/Youth Hockey organization functioning similarly to that of NSCF. My goal is to create a league with a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 24 teams playing a 48-game schedule, 24 at home, 24 away. The teams would be split into two conferences, Star and Dream conferences. The top eight from each conference would play in a playoffs. Ideally, I'd like the season to run from December-March with an all-star game sometime in February.

The Season
As stated before, 16-24 teams would play in a 2-conferenece league for a total of 64 games. This way, each team would have a fair share of home and away games, thirty-two at home and thirty-two away. Each division would be divided into 8-12 teams depending on the number teams that sign up. Additionally, the top eight teams in each division at the end of the regular season [ March ] would square-off in a two-week playoff

The Playoffs
Sixteen teams total will square off in a two-week play-off in April, beginning each year on April 1st, they'd first battle each other in-conference, 1v8, 2v7, etc. The two champions of each conference shall face off against each other at a hockey arena that will be chosen by NS College Hockey teams.

The Scorination
The Ice Hockey scorinator on Xkoranate with NSFS-3-style.

Just letting you know, there once was NSCAA Ice Hockey. I ran it around 2-3 RL years ago. It lasted for 3 editions, but didn't go further simply because interest ran out by the time.

So NSFS modifier on Xkoranate or the actual NSFS?

I like the idea, but Savojarna is not supposed to have its junior hockey tied to educational institutions (except military academies, where the institution players receive is basically only education in hockey). So I would, depending on your definition of "college team", not be able to take part. And because I detest the college system in sports AND do not think it fits into Savojarna (where most people would not necessarily want to go to a college in the first place), I'm not changing my nation to adjust to a competition. I don't know if other people do have this problem as well, but if they do, maybe change it to youth club teams in general, or something similar?

By college team, I mean any team that has players that would be of graduating age of your version of high-school till they graduate from your highest institution of learning. Howeever, Youth or Academy teams also would work.

There is a youth league for players of age 20 and less, the best of which are officially soldiers, but they really play for CASK, Aviator or Torpedo's youth teams and live like professional hockey players already. However, everyone is between 16 and 20. Would they be eligible? If yes, I'd send CASK or something like that.

On the one hand, I'd definitely be up for something like this. I mean, I might have to make up a university and some players for it (seeing as there isn't a draft in Elejamie - players either have to apply for teams they wish to enter or GMs have to make trades - so this is more something to do to increase their chances of being picked up by a good team), but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be a problem. Not to mention that it could be a nice little thing to do in between the World Cup of Hockey and World Junior Hockey Championships.

But, on the other hand, it all depends on whether or not we can drum up enough support to keep it going. For example, as Quebec said, there was an NSCAA tourney that lasted three editions before everyone got bored with it. Secondly, 32-48 teams in the first season sounds a little bit ambituous unless everyone creates at least two teams; it might be a good idea to start off with 24 teams as a minimum and see where we go from there. After all, if anyone else wants to join we could always expand the league or something like that. And thirdly, are the play-offs going to be a best-of series or will it just be single elimination?

P.S. Quick question but this is more in general: Am I allowed to have foreign students in my college hockey team? Or do I have to field an all-Elejamian team? Sorry, just thought I should ask now if this gets off the ground (and I don't really like American football, which is why I haven't entered the NSCF and asked them the same thing).

Well since its about bringing pride to your youth team/college/etc, NSCH wouldn't mind foreign players on a team

OK, just figured I should ask if it was alright, that was all.

Alright, thanks. Sorry to have been a bother, by the way. Again, if it does pick up and more teams from different nations want to give it a go, there's nothing stopping you from expanding the league as far as I know.

I'm up for this. Similar to Savojarna, college hockey is not really a thing in Novaya Zemlya, but I'd gladly sign up a couple of youth academy teams.

Given I've gotten some interest, I'm converting this into a sign-up thread. We need 16-24 teams, nations are allowed a max of two colleges and no puppets.

No worries. Besides, there's always next season. If there is a next season.

Also, I've got a question for Kep and Musterfield: When you've posted the scores, will it be the home team listed first or will it be the away team? Like, for example, let's say that my team was playing a home game against Ontorisa's team and I won 2-0; would it be "Lightning 2-0 Reapers" or would it be "Reapers 0-2 Lightning"?

Alright, thanks. And I TG'd Kep and he said that the home teams in the Star Conference will be listed first as well.

Sorry for the stupid question, by the way, it's mostly because of how North American sports leagues (i.e. NFL, NBA, NHL, both the NL and the AL in MLB) tend to put the away team first, something I find very confusing. I just wanted to make sure which way round it will be just so one of us doesn't end up listing the home team as the away team or anything like that.
