Aha! Just when you thought you were safe!

In other matters, welcome to NS Sports. I hope you enjoy your stay, make sure to read the Guide to Sports Roleplaying, and don't be afraid to ask any questions either through the General Sports Roleplaying Questions thread or me, or any other experienced member of the forums (if you do ask, they are all willing to help).

IBC 22 Bid - Abaja & Frenline Delpha

Frenline Delpha IC Information
Frenline Delpha is a democratic nation that celebrates heavy freedoms and a small wealth gap. The economy of Frenline Delpha is heavily industrialized but incredibly efficient. The tax rate is high, but the cost of living is low. All religions are accepted and you can find at least 20 different religions in whatever city you are in. Many cultures are represented in Frenlinian cuisine. If it exists in the multiverse, you can probably find it here. We plenty of travel options throughout the city, from taxis to travel busses for teams, to busses for tourists. We also have rental cars. Take a stop at one of the several scenic relics from acient bloodbenders in the capital. There are even decorative fire hydrants, painted by local youth expressive artists. Most of our available hotels are at least 3 stars, and they come quite cheap. Plus, our currency is valued at .62 theories ({) for 1 NSD. If you are low on money, we also have high quality motels that offer free breakfast and wi-fi.

Abaja IC Information

Abaja, officially the Federal Republic of Abaja, is a fairly large, devout nation home to 81.9 million people and found in Southern United Valhaven. Abaja is known mostly for it's flat grassy lands and it's powerhouse economy. The weather in Abaja is pretty stable throughout the year. Warm summers, cool winters, and a mild fall and spring are very common among the motherland. Abaja has 5 national languages, which are: English, Arabic, Swahili, and Guanda. Majority of them speak English. Many Abajans are Catholic Christians, but they accept people of all beliefs and even those who aren't of faith. Those who are also welcomed are the immigrants that come to settle in the country. There are many sources of transportation for the tourists, and many cultural practices that they can see and learn from the Abajan tribes. Hotel pricing is extremely cheap, with 4-to-5-star hotels being as little as $70 a night, or 24.5 Côshí. The hotels come with swimming pools, basketball/volleyball gyms, exercise rooms, and restaurants.

OOC Experience

Abaja came into the NS Sports world almost 3 years ago, and has had much stories to tell with his RP's from World Bowl XXIX and XXX, World Cup 75 and 76, IBC 17, 20, and 21 and more. However, Abaja has not hosted any sporting event yet. This will be his first oppurtunity. The only games that Abaja has scorinated were his Sportswire games. The user behind Frenline Delpha has had much more expirience with hosting and scorination. He has hosted the 2nd United Valhaven Track Championship, the Gaelic Football World Championships II, the NSCF 12 Mineral Conference, the NSCF 14 Zephyr Conference, the World Bowl XXIX along with co-host Drawkland, IBS X along with Schiltzberg, and WBC 37 with co-host Ilyseum. He has scorinated various soccer friendlies and two of his domestic leagues, known as the Frenline Delpha Baseball League and the Frenline Delpha Domestic Water Polo League.

Format

If 28 Sign-ups: There will be 4 groups, with 7 teams in each group. Single Round Robin Fixture
If 32 Sign-ups: There will be 8 groups, with 4 teams in each group. Triple Round Robin Fixture
If 36 Sign-ups: There will be 6 groups, with 6 teams in each group. Double Round Robin Fixture
If 48 Sign-ups (Likely): There will be 8 groups, with 6 teams in each group. Double Round Robin Fixture
If 56 Sign-ups: There will be 8 groups, with 7 teams in each group. Single Round Robin Fixture
If 64 Sign-ups: There will be 8 groups, with 8 teams in each group. Single Round Robin Fixture

Tiebreakers
1) Wins
2) H2H Wins
3) H2H Points For
4) Points Difference
5) Points For

If we have 36, 48, 56, or 64 sign-ups: The top 2 teams in each group will advance to the playoffs (16). Here is the projected seeding arrangement for those who advance:

1v16, 2v15, 3v14, 4v13, 5v12, 6v11, 7v10, 8v9

If we have 32 sign-ups: The best team in each group will advance (8). Here is the projected seeding arrangement for those who advance:

1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5

If we have 28 sign-ups: The top 2 teams in each group will advance (8)

1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5

The Round of 16, Quarter-final, and Semi-Final will all have a best-of-five series, while the Final will have a best-of-seven series.
"Why does Round of 16, Quarter-final, and Semi-Final will all have a best-of-five series, and the Final will have a best-of-seven series?"
- Well, me and Frenline agreed with scorinating two play-off games per day instead of just one, so that teams can have more RP opportunity and shortens the overall tournament by one potential day.

Eg. Ro16: Game 1 & 2 (Day 1)
Ro16: Game 3 & 4 (if needed) (Day 2)
Ro16: Game 5 (If needed) (Day 3)

Quarter-Finals: Game 1 & 2 (Day 1)
Game 3 & 4 (if needed) (Day 2)
Game 5 (if needed) (Day 3)

Semi-Finals: Game 1 & 2 (Day 1)
Game 3 & 4 (if needed) (Day 2)
Game 5 (if needed) (Day 3)

Finals: Game 1 & 2 (Day 1)
Game 3 & 4 (Day 2)
Game 5 (if needed) & 6 (if needed) (Day 3)
Game 7 (if needed) (Day 4)
(Also know that the World Baseball Classic has gone this route for the past four editions)

Scorination & RP Bonus

As used in the past IBC's, xkoranate 0.3.3 will be used to scorinate this event. RP Bonus will be generous and cumulative from Match Day 1 to the Final. The co-hosts will both receive a host bonus. Frenline Delpha will be scorinating my matches and I will be scorinating Frenline Delpha's matches.

Why have you opted for 'best of five' and 'best of seven' rather than just a singular game?

Same reason I did it in the WBC. I believe that it helps to have two games to RO about instead of one during the play-offs, and it also helps cut back slightly on randomness, given that more games are most likely played. However, the biggest reason, and the one I mainly tout, is argument one.
I don't know how long I'll be back, but I just thought I'd stop in and say hi, at least.

Because usually the h2h wins wil be the only tiebreaker needed, give a few set-ups, and we felt that how the two teams did on offense against each other, should the first tiebreaker be indecisive, was the best qualifier of skill. But that was just our thought process. Feel free to disagree.

Yeah, I feel the differential would be a better qualitifier of skill. But that's just my personal opinion: I don't think it's a dealbreaker for this bid, which looks pretty good as far as I can tell.

Official Bid for the International Basketball Championships 22: Ethane

Image

About Ethane:

Ethane has typically been a democratic, left-leaning liberal state. However, in recent elections, the rise of the right has been observed in the Christian Conservative Party and now the anti-establishment MoralEthane! party in the current controversial election. The previous government was led by the Union of Socialists in coalition with the anti-establishment left-wing GreenerEthane! party, which has heavily focused on improving the environment of the nation, returning it to its pristine natural state, making it a beautiful place to visit for tourists. The nation has a strong pacifistic tendency, even with a large military, and puts a lot of funds into public education. However, the future policies of the nation are up in the air at the moment, because of how tight the election is according to the polls.

The nation is well known for many things, including its multiple sporting appearances in the likes of the World Baseball Classic, and the World Cup, and its performances in the Worldvision Song Contest and the World Hit Festival. The nation is renowned for its technology sector, which drives forward innovation. The nation also has well funded and developed healthcare and public transport, making these apparent basic utilities easier for people to reach and use.

Sporting History of Ethane:

Ethane maintains a role as a rising star in the sporting world, not yet hitting it big time in any sport, yet enough of a threat that nations are sometimes wary of playing the national team. The sport where the nation has found the most success is arguably baseball, where Ethane is ranked tenth. However, successes in tennis also make that a challenger for most successful sport for Ethane.
While baseball is not the most popular sport in Ethane, it does have a sizeable loyal following who turn out to watch local club games. The sport is most popular with students, as it is a sport heavily played in secondary school and at university, making it a popular choice of sport in Ethane.

The nation is no stranger to hosting large events, as it has hosted various large events before, showing the nation is capable of handling the increased demand on everything in the nation during the tournament. The nation started off its hosting career through holding the first Gaelic Football World Championships in Ethane. The nation has also been host to the Aurorealis Football League and the Handball World Cup XVI. Ethane has also held the 11th edition of the World Junior Hockey Championships. However, the most prestigious event that the nation has hosted so far is the 30th edition of the World Bowl. Naturally, not all these events have run smoothly, with logistical errors and errors of judgement in some of the tournaments, but the mistakes have been dwelled on and will not be repeated.

Ethane also has its own domestic sports, including the Explosive League. While it is mainly focused on football with some cricket mixed in, there are aims in the future to expand the number of sports shown.

How the Tournament Will Operate

About the User:

The user behind the nation has been present on Nationstates for almost a year and two months. He rapidly became involved in the NS Sports community, involving himself in multiple sports. He has also been present in other parts of the site, but mainly uses puppet nations for that nowadays. He also operates 'The Great Pi'. The user has hosted multiple events, as can be seen in the section labelled 'Sporting History of Ethane', and is looking to further his hosting career.

Question for Ethane: why the double Round Robin for the 2 situations where there are 7 teams per group? Don't you think a 12-match group stage is a little long?

Honestly, no. I don't think it is too long. If the groups were any bigger, I think it would be too long, but I think 7 is the absolute maximum for a double round robin, hence why I have done it as such. Besides, I think it's good to play each team twice, to reduce randomness and to benefit those who rp more.

Anyway, if possible, I would preferably have a different number of signups to that anyway, which I think we can get.

Abaja wrote:One question: How come playoff games are singular?

No particular reason. Just to offer something different to your bid and other bids. Also gives more chance for a lower ranked nation who has rp'd well to overcome a higher ranked nation who hasn't rp'd so well.

It's a break from convention. I wanted to do something slightly different.

No, last edition had groups of 6, and a 10 game group stage.
