World Cup 76 - Roster Thread

Postby Electrum » Mon Sep 26, 2016 6:37 am

Welcome to the 76th edition of the longest-running NS Sports event, hosted by yours truly and Ceni. This thread is the place for your nation to put up their roster. A roster should have information about your nation's players, management, stadium venues (as the qualifying is a home-and-away format), schedules, kits, and other related information. A style modifier should also be provided. A style modifier gives an indication as to how defensive and offensive your team is, ranging from -5 being the most defensive (conceding and scoring few goals) to +5 being the most offensive (conceding and scoring a lot of goals), with 0 being the default if it is not provided.

Finally, you should add RP permissions. Here is an example below:

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes/No
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Hand out Yellow cards to my players: Yes/No
Hand out Red cards to my players: Yes/No
Godmod Other Events: Yes/No

RP permissions serve as a guide for your opponent when roleplaying matches against your nation -- and whether or not they can roleplay injuries, cards, etc. against members of your team if they roleplay first.

This is a strictly IC thread, OOC discussion should take place in the World Cup Discussion Thread. Roleplays should go in the roleplay thread. Links to those will be provided shortly. Please, do NOT reserve posts in either this thread or the roleplay thread.

Electrum National Football Team
presented by Electrum Football

General Information
It's four-in-a-row for Electrum, extending their run in the World Cup Finals by one more (thanks to of course, being given the honour of hosting the multiverse's premier event). Playing at their home turf, there will almost certainly be a lot of expectation placed on the team. They have climbed up to fifteenth on the KPB rankings, and they made the best run through the World Cup last cycle, qualifying for the final stages of the competition, and making it all the way to the quarterfinals, where they were promptly drubbed by Audi0-5lavia (you can guess the margin).

This cycle, however, has been a very quiet one recently. Jeffery Clark has done what very few World Cup hosting managers have done, which is to not organise international friendlies with other teams during the qualification period. Instead, he has opted to rest the team a bit more, and to play friendlies against some of the very best teams of the Terranean League. The Terranean League, well known for the lack of goals more than anything, served, according to Clark's view, a less pressured way for the team to ease into the World Cup. They're going to face a whole lot of pressure now, so why not ease the burden in their preparation? Only time will tell if this technique worked.

The team sees a couple of promotions, both of them from the premier Euran sides. Ho replaces starter and vice-captain Jake Ingram, after the latter sustained a knee injury during one of the friendly matches, and Ficker, who has gotten on the bad side recently of Clark, and underperforming in matches, has been replaced by Moore.

Cenian National Team - World Cup 76

Football History
Football in Ceni has only recently began to take off in popularity. Even though football has been present in Ceni for a good majority of the time that it has been settled, other sports, mainly tennis, badminton, and squash, held precedence in Cenian sporting life. For the most part, society gave football barely a passing glance as Ceni built its dominance in tennis. As the popularity of football grew in the last decade, however, pressure grew for the Cenian government to create a national team and send it to compete with the world's best. First, however, it would play in the 54th Baptism of Fire against other nations new to international football. In what was perhaps an ill omen for the rest of Ceni's international football campaigns, the Sarian, later to reach the final, crushed Ceni. In the group stage, Ceni barely managed one win before qualifying for the playoffs on goal difference, where they defeated Bonny in only their second win of the tournament, winning the opportunity to face eventual champion Buyan in the Round of 16. Although Ceni played valiantly, Buyan won, 1-0, in a not-surprising scoreline.

After its poor showing in the Baptism of Fire, Ceni embarked on its first World Cup qualification campaign. Not many people payed attention, and the team, led by Pablito Numede, managed to scrape up a few points before going home in ignominy. If one could say that Ceni's first qualification campaign was a three-year-old's small beach bucket, Ceni's second campaign barely made a drop in that bucket. The short description: nobody really cared. Sure, maybe some people were disappointed by the team's quite awful performance, but the general populace shrugged. In World Cup 69, Ceni finally started caring about its World Cup qualification prospects. Unsurprisingly, they weren't good. Although Ceni did manage to secure draws against Felix and Chiata, and a win against the then-twenty-ninth-ranked Super-Llamaland, it was not enough to make even a small dent in the large wall separating Ceni from World Cup qualification. In World Cup 70, Ceni had a real chance at qualifying. Despite falling 2-9 down to Audioslavia, Ceni notched a win against the second seed Neu Engollon to get a chance to defeat Electrum in a last-match day decider at home. Apparently the gods of fate were not smiling on the Cenian team, for the team fell by one goal, ending hopes of a playoff spot and World Cup qualification. Ceni's prospects had come so close, yet they were as far away as ever. At the Cup of Harmony, Ceni defeated Neu Engollon again, and shockingly defeated world number 9 and eventual champion Turori, ending a losing slide against the top 10. However, Ceni could not end its losing slide against Electrum, whom they faced in the Round of 16, losing for the third time in a row.

Ceni came back yet again for World Cup 71. It started disappointingly, with a loss to Zenic and a draw to the hitherto-unknown Octinstine courtesy of an Alliance for Cenian Future ploy. After that, Ceni won against second seed Barunia. On paper, the second half of qualification should have been good enough: four wins, one against top seed Blouman Empire, and three draws. Unfortunately, the draws were against Zenic at home and against the minnow Aynard, ranked in the three hundreds, and they sealed Ceni's doom. Soothsayers and gamblers who bet on Ceni's failure were the only ones celebrating. Without the disappointing draws to the bottom of the group, Ceni would have made the playoff spot; with five more points against Zenic, Ceni would have qualified outright. Alas, the gods of fate had conspired against Ceni once again, and Ceni would move to the Cup of Harmony at home. It performed decently. Despite draws to Kazamatsuri and Matthewsiana in the group stage, Ceni managed to advance to the Round of 16, where it defeated Darvale to reach the quarterfinals and Mizuyuki on penalties to reach the semifinals. It lost to Valanora, hardly surprising, and Saintland in the third place match, but Ceni finally had made somewhat of a mark in international football. It felt it was ready to qualify.

However, the dream did not come to fruition. In World Cup 72 qualification, the team lost to Barunia, a team it had beaten in World Cup 71, on the first match day and drew the 279th ranked Welcomzia. It then lost to the successor of Mizuyuki, Kirisaki, and drew with the 100th ranked side Vermark. Ceni's losses and disappointments kept coming, losing to minnows Emperor Pudu and Atrua. While the draws against Aynard and Octinstine were disturbing at best and heartbreaking at worst, Cenian supporters were crushed by their spell of bad luck during World Cup 72. A target for their fury was manager Osman Ibarra, who was sacked by the Cenian Football Federation, and replaced by Kirk Koromin, father of star Kel Koromin and manager of Tir Snake Strike, Ceni's best club. The switch seemed to have improved morale by a bit, as the team got revenge on Welcomzia, Vermark, and Atrua (all by the score of 3-2) and drew Kirisaki. However, it was not enough, as the pesky Emperor Pudu managed to defeat Ceni, and Ceni did not qualify, with a low take of 18 points. Surprisingly, however, Ceni improved one spot in the rankings, to forty-fourth. At this seemingly happy news, however, Cenian officials rued that they could have advanced into the top 40 with a better performance. It came to the Cup of Harmony facing an identity crisis and a crisis of leadership. However, its Cup of Harmony - a let's see our problems run for new coach Kirk Koromin - did not work out so well, with a loss to Barunia in the Group Stage as well as a heartbreaking penalty kick defeat to Chiata in the Round of 16. Ceni came to the World Cup cautiously optimistic and hoped that it would finally qualify on its seventh attempt.

Finally Ceni achieved their goal in World Cup 73 on their seventh attempt. Led by Jaime del Olmo and Kel Koromin, the team once again fell to the Opening Match Curse, suffering a defeat to Matthewsiania away, but rebounded after that, only losing once thereafter. Among notable games were the 6-6 draw with Free Republics and the 2-1 win away against HopNation. The World Cup also marked the debut of manager Kirk Koromin in World Cup qualifiers and the Cenial Halcyon National Stadium, at which the national team has never lost. The team was second in their group and drew Gregoryisgodistan, which they beat on a penalty shootout at home with a maxed-out crowd of cheering fans. Finally Ceni had made it to the World Cup, where they lost to regional rivals Eura and Cosumar before beating (guess who) Free Republics for their first ever World Cup win on their first try. Ceni directly qualified for World Cup 74, winning its group, including two wins over top seed Northern Sunrise Islands. They entered the World Cup hopeful, drawing with Apox before losing to hosts San Jose Guayabal. They were confident against Gregoryisgodistan, with a place in the round of 16 on the line. They knew they could win the match - yet they managed to lose somehow, one to nil, denying them a chance in the second round and disappointing many. In World Cup 75, the qualifiers went through in a breeze, with the team going 13-1-0 in their best qualifying run in their history. In the World Cup Finals, however, they could not break their streak of group stage finishes, drawing with Barunia 0-0 and with Pasarga 2-2 but disappointingly drawing 0-0 with Ficiscia to deny them a spot in the knockout rounds yet again. In World Cup 76, they will be hoping to finally go deep in the World Cup - and the fact that they're playing on home soil should help.

Team Formation
Manager Carrasco has reverted to a more traditional (for Ceni, anyway) 3-3-2-2 after his "innovative" 2-3-2-3 last time around didn't work out so well.

Manager
Côfcarthor Undorina
Age: 1284
After a series of failures by experienced managers by foreign and domestic, the VSC has decided to go instead into the managerial program for the next managers of the Marauders. Undorina was the one who was fortunate enough to be selected, having shown the most promise out of the current crop of managers in training. Undorina will likely look to revert the tactics of the team to that of a possession style where the team looks to break others down through precision and attrition.

Assistant Manager
Parnornede Haedhen
Age: 1178
Partnering Undorina is Haedhen, who looks to be another technical minded manager who likes to continue the tradition of the technical attacking play that is both beautiful to watch but also quite efficient in dealing with a variety of opponents.

Keeper

1 Aediron Galadirdren, Ibini FC
Age - 687
Sex - M
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 174 lbs
Galadirdren looks to be the long term solution for the Marauders in net after several stellar seasons in the domestic scene with Ibini FC. While not loud and "in control" of his box, the keeper is very good when the opposition has a breakaway, as well as some amazing reflexes. His best attribute though is his near perfect position, always seeming to know where the opposition is going to place their shots or crosses.

Defenders

2 Morlaithan Aldamiel, AC Izotz Zubia Image
Age - 700
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 162 lbs
A tough and quiet sort at the back, more physical than your usual Vanorian centerback thanks to the years that he has played in Audioslavia. More of a stay at home defender than the rest of the backline and more prone the occasional card due to the more physical nature.

3 Rainyardil Toraandal, Avenida Principal Image
Age - 659
Sex - M
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 168 lbs
Toraandal is deceptively fast and agile for a person of his size and also very keen to get in on the attack during prolonged spells in the opponents third. With his size and pure athletic ability, he has a knack for getting open in the box and heading home his fair share of goals, though it is his stern defending that is the reason that he was put on to the starting eleven.

4 Revhil Lardireil, Hondo FC
Age - 658
Sex - M
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 171 lbs
Like Toraandal, Lardireil is used to getting into the attack, having spent the majority of his career at Hondo with their attacking flavor. However he has the speed of a cheetah and the strength of an elephant, most likely the most versatile of the three defenders that the side uses.

Midfield

21 Espy va Drake, 1830 Cathair Image
Age: 763
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 159 lbs
After becoming a folklore hero for the lower class of the world, va Drake has made himself one of the living legends of the game after help leading the side to a title in World Cup 53. He has traveled far and wide while plying his trade, donning kits for no less than five countries clubs. Seen as the driving force in the middle of the park alongside Hawk, it is up to the opposition to try and figure out how to deal with the brilliance the winger and his other attackers have rather than them to create magic.

6 Caeltimyonan Haerear, Mar Sara FC
Age - 618
Sex - M
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 163 lbs
Coming from Mar Sara you would expect Haerear to be more of an attacking option, yet the midfielder is more of a box to box playmaker than the attacking midfielders usually coming from the Flames. Not overly fast or physical but Haerear has a motor that never quits, never giving up on a play or a game despite how dire the situation may be.

10 Laborious Hawk, AC Izotz Zubia Image
Age - 727
Sex -M
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 213 lbs
Words do not even begin to define his talent, his talent defines words. He was awarded one of the spots that the Vanorians have in the World Cup Hall of Fame, with it being very well deserved, as he has and continues to earn everything he has been given every single day. Hawk simply strives to be the very best footballer, captain, and teammate that there can be, with the hunger for perfection driving him forth on and off the pitch.

8 Ilglerdiriel Lithvathar, Raynor City United
Age - 733
Sex - F
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 149 lbs
Lithvathar is much like va Drake, a floater who is dynamic in attack but with enough speed and sense of the pitch to make up on any sort of defensive lapse. Yet unlike her flankmate, she is not nearly as skilled, but do not let that fool you, in a moment of magic she can undress an entire backline and set up more prolific scorers with easy chances.

7 Faeron Soldarian, 1830 Cathair Image
Age - 641
Sex - M
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 163 lbs
Soldarian continues to live in the shadow of more well known players both on the national team and with his club. Despite this, Soldarian is seen by all on the squad as the emotional leader and the linchpin the in the middle that allows the more attacking minded midfielders being allowed to play their game.

Strikers

9 Allandren Fresco, Ibini FC
Age - 516
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 167 lbs
Fresco continues to lead the line of the attack, being the tip of the spear that is the Marauders offensive movement. By now most teams know of the striker's pace and near laser guided shot, however the striker still somehow finds ways to bring in the goals.

11 Galasgoldas Tathtauré, OAS Royal FC Image
Age - 598
Sex - M
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 157 lbs
A more finesse striker than what Fresco is used to being paired with, Tathtauré has the speed to run past opponents with plenty of dribbling skill to work around multiple defenders. While not as strong as Celetholtinu was, Galasgoldas can still play a hold up role in a pinch.

Subs
13 GK Legoion Taltauré, age 683, Char Sara FC
20 GK Belltarion Nartalhûn, age 557, AC Valanari
15 CB Bronlanda Culiththir, age 601, Char Sara FC (F)
16 CB Urúvdion Shatholryl, age 666, Wexax United
17 CB Ainglad Gwavaul, age 607, Hondo FC
23 DMC Belltherdon Cularin - age 722 - Milona-Lpaka Image
18 LW Sellan Teltaththor, age 693, Hondo FC

Tumbran National Football Team
The Blue Lions

Image

The Campionato Esportiva XVII, the first held on Tumbran soil, saw a respectable round of sixteen placed finish, losing to eventual runner-ups Nephara. With the midly successful Eight Corners Tour behind them, will Robin Stoff be able to bring the Blue Lions forward instead of stagnating?

All-Time Record as of WC LXXVI

Jordan Fletcher: 12-8-17
Colin Guthries: 1-3-4
Robin Stoff: 5-14-11

1: (Not for too long - maximum until end of tournament. No killings or career-ending injuries. A terrorist attack that kills supporters is fine, however - just not any member of the Royal Family)

Staff

Manager: Robin Stoff (57 y/o, TMB)

Robin Stoff is the manager of the Tumbran team - something which has proven to be more of a curse than a blessing. In his fourteen matches in charge, he has failed to win any, at most holding teams to a draw. He hopes that will change at this tournament, with Tumbra being in a relatively easy group. He has repeatedly stated that he is in for the long run - a sentiment that the TFA shares, despite them dismissing him from his job as the U-21 manager following Tumbra's successful third-placed finish in the Di Bradini Cup.

Assistant Manager: Mark Noble (46 y/o, TMB)

Noble was recently appointed to the job by Stoff - he will be taking care of tactics and ingame advice, as well as being the defensive coach. Previously manager of West Langham, Noble is more offensive-based than Stoff - however, he has adapted his tactics to Stoff's somewhat. Will they work well together? Or will their relationship crumble?

Goalkeeping Coach: Aiden Pearce (51 y/o, TMB)

Defensive Coach: Jon Seah (42 y/o, TMB)

Attacking Coach: Martin Lewis (57 y/o, TMB)

Fitness Coach: Samantha Lewington (38 y/o, TMB)

Scout: Harry Kew (63 y/o, TMB)

Physio: Coraline Lewis (32 y/o, TMB)

Players

Formation: 4-2-3-1

With several important players retiring, announcing their retirement from international football or football altogether, Robin Stoff has chosen to revamp the team fully. The result is a new-look team that has players from more top-tier teams, although there still are some from lower-tier ones.

1 Ryan Hughes (Thurmond City)

Age: 29
Height: 190 cm
Weight: 86 kg

Goalkeeper Hughes was, is and will be the custodian of the goal for this team. A magnificent ability to stop shots which are often considered unsaveable, Hughes is a threat to look out for. However, he cannot stop set-pieces for toffee, and generally looks to the defenders to help him in this task.

12 Raymond Perry (Goldlion Arsenal)

Age: 28
Height: 183 cm
Weight: 73 kg

Perry, the man with cat-like reflexes, finds himself once again in the team. He'll be treating this as possibly an extended vacation, unless something happens to Hughes. He is a middle-of-the-road keeper, and is generally considered to be around decent for a team of Tumbra's standing.

23 Steven Haines (Waterford City)

Age: 31
Height: 184 cm
Weight: 79 kg

Haines made it into the team with the retirement of Larry Peterson, who retired aged 34. Although unlikely to play any major role in this tournament, but he is always ready to spring into action when needed. More of a technical player than a showman, he has very good control of his area.

2 Louis Paterson (Chalk Wharf)

Positions: LB, CB
Age: 26
Height: 179 cm
Weight: 81 kg

3 Brandon Brooks (Fayborough United)

Positions: CB, CDM, CM
Age: 29
Height: 180 cm
Weight: 85 kg

Brandon Brooks is the definition of a safe pair of hands. His command of the area is bar none, and is often called the best defender in Tumbra. While not the fastest, Brooks does fit in with Stoff's new philosophy of stopping attackers in defence - and works it out to a tee.

4 Steve Nelson (Thurmond United)

Positions: CB, RB, CDM
Age: 27
Height: 172 cm
Weight: 69 kg

5 Cecil Reyes (Hoxford United)

Positions: RB, CB, SW
Age: 24
Height: 180 cm
Weight: 72 kg

Reyes is part of a new brand of football that Robin Stoff is trying to bring in - physically imposing defenders that can scare the living daylights out of opposing strikers. Standing at just below six feet, Reyes is extremely athletic and will chase after every single ball.

13 Lucas Jennings (Montego Bay Rangers)

Positions: CB, RB, CDM
Age: 30
Height: 178 cm
Weight: 74 kg

14 Alex Tucker (Metz FC)

Positions: LB, CB, RB
Age: 26
Height: 168 cm
Weight: 54 kg

Alex Tucker is the shortest and lightest member of the team, but that does not mean everything in the world of football. Tucker is fast, agile and jumps like a spring - managing to jump up to 200 cm - taller than most people are. This also means that he has been responsible for some fantastic last-ditch goal-line saves, using his incredible speed to catch up to forwards.

15 Roger Baker (Thurmond City)

Positions: CB, RB
Age: 27
Height: 182 cm
Weight: 71 kg

6 Henry Butler (Connaught FC)

Positions: CDM, CM, LM
Age: 26
Height: 171 cm
Weight: 63 kg

Butler quietly and efficiently established himself as the top CDM in Tumbra, with his recent showing at the Cup of Harmony speaking volumes about his quality. Extremely well-versed in the defensive arts of football, Butler will run rings around the opponent, showing them how stubborn the Tumbran defence can be at times.

7 John Rhys-Stevens (Merton FC)

Positions: CDM, CB
Age: 21
Height: 175 cm
Weight: 70 kg

Rhys-Stevens put in a quiet yet determined campaign during the Cup of Harmony and the Eagle's Cup, proving once again that the mature-beyond-his-age midfielder is ready for the full rigour of international football. His most unforgettable moment may have happened in Valanora, but that was what brought him into the spotlight for the first time...

8 Almar Hussein (Connaught FC)

Positions: LW, CM, CAM
Age: 18
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 56 kg

Another star from the Di Bradini Cup campaign, Hussein's young age raises the question of whether he is too young to take part in international football. Some say that he is an experiment to see whether Oliver Ganson can be rushed into service as the replacement for Henry Pandon, but we never know with Robin Stoff. An aerial master, his linkup plays are excellent and more often than not he will score headed goals out of nowhere. He will be relishing this chance to re-link with Stoff, the ex-U21 manager.

9 Robert Alexander (Thurmond United)

Age: 28
Positions: CAM, LM, RM
Height: 176 cm
Weight: 74 kg

Alexander rose to the occasion exceptionally well when Henry Pandon was taken off injured, being the star of the show in the Eagle's Cup, along with Henry Butler. He has that ability to see goalscoring opportunities where others do not - this leads to him being played as a raumdeuter, or space invader.

10 Albert Foster (Goldlion Arsenal)

Age: 26
Positions: RW, LW, CF
Height: 169 cm
Weight: 62 kg

Foster is fast, and he knows it. At twenty-six years of age, Foster relies on pure speed and skill to get past and befuddle his poor opponents, usually leaving them in the dust with his magnificent speed. He often sets up counterattacks on the wing, which makes him a prime target for defenders.

16 William Coleman (Thurmond United)

Age: 29
Positions: CDM, CM
Height: 180 cm
Weight: 79 kg

17 Arnold Lowe (Fayborough United)

Age: 26
Positions: RM, CM
Height: 172 cm
Weight: 71 kg

18 Ernest Sanders (Thurmond City)

Age: 32
Positions: CDM, CB, RM
Height: 182 cm
Weight: 82 kg

19 Justin Bielsen (Wildrspring Wanderers)

Age: 24
Positions: RM, LM
Height: 179 cm
Weight: 74 kg

20 Ervin Geeson (Sondon AFC)

Age: 30
Positions: CDM, CB
Height: 181 cm
Weight: 77 kg

11 Henry Pandon (Thurmond City) - Captain

Age: 31
Positions: ST, CF
Height: 178 cm
Weight: 77 kg

Will this be Henry Pandon's last cycle as skipper of the National Team? He shows no signs of slowing down, though the long time he took to recover from his Eagle's Cup injury did put the question of renewal into the spotlight, Pandon has since recovered immensely and is raring to go in helping the Blue Lions. Tumbra's best ever striker, he does not pull any punches when in the spotlight, always scoring without fanfare.

21 John Krajewski (Humboldt Albion)

Age: 23
Positions: ST, LW, LM
Height: 181 cm
Weight: 81 kg

While Oliver Ganson may still be too young to play football on the international level, John Krajewski - born to a Tumbran mother and Quebecois father, he chose Tumbra at the age of seventeen, and has been playing for the Blue Lions ever since. Krajewski may be one born outside the traditional mold of possession-based gradual attacking football, however. Inheriting the characteristics of a Quebecois footballer, he is born to score goals and is loud and proud of it.

22 Peter Jones (West Langham)

Age: 25
Positions: ST, CAM
Height: 170 cm
Weight: 64 kg

Jones is the third striker in Tumbra's striking options - a stalwart choice if there ever was one. While there was a chance for him to ascend to the number 21 jersey, Jones chose to remain with 22, as it was, to him, the more iconic choice. The days of him scoring at will in the Di Bradini Cup are long gone, but Jones has since evolved into a quiet, efficient striker with a deadly right foot.

The Stadia

Wembley National Stadium, Goldlion City - 90,000

Image

The National Stadium is certainly the largest dedicated football stadium in Tumbra - and that is saying a lot. Located in the north of Goldlion City, traffic from there and the airport is usually atrocious, but the Tube does have a dedicated system servicing the station on matchdays. This stadium will host the games against the Royal Kingdom of Quebec and Flardania, with 10,000 seats being allocated to away fans.

City of Thurmond Stadium, Thurmond - 53,000

Image

Home to Thurmond City FC, this stadium, while not the largest stadium in Thurmond (New Trafford takes that title), is certainly the more modern one. Located just a hop, a skip and a jump away from the city centre, and five kilometres away from the airport (with a direct train service to boot). This stadium will host the games against Kirisaki and Tomikosan, with 7,500 seats being allocated to away fans.

Thefield Stadium, Connaught - 44,742

Image

Thefield Stadium (pronounced Theh-feld) is located in Connaught, fifty-six kilometres from Thurmond, and is home to Connaught FC - some of the league's most dedicated supporters. While not the newest stadium, Tumbra fans are known to show a great atmosphere while there. Easily reachable by train, plane or car. This stadium will host the games against Kalumba and the Hydraic Empire, with 5,000 seats being allocated to away fans.

About Tumbra

A map of Tumbra can be found here.

The Royal Federal Republic of Tumbra is a nation of over 67 million people is an extremely diverse nation, welcoming people from all around the world to its shores. Tumbra has often been called an "immigrant nation", simply because it has so many cultures and values that the traditional Tumbran identity has been moulded and kneaded to fit the new Tumbran demographic. That being said, however, 87.1% of the population is still white - but the proportion of nonwhite people is significantly higher in metropolitan areas.

A great Wikipedia article on the nation can be found here.

Tumbra: Weather

Tumbra has a temperate climate, with plentiful rainfall all year round. The temperature varies with the seasons seldom dropping below −11 °C (12 °F) or rising above 35 °C (95 °F). The prevailing wind is from the south-west and bears frequent spells of mild and wet weather from the Sarian Sea, although the eastern parts are mostly sheltered from this wind since the majority of the rain falls over the western regions the eastern parts are therefore the driest. Sarianese currents, warmed by the Paradystopian Cheese Desert, bring mild winters; especially in the west where winters are wet and even more so over high ground. Summers are warmest in the south-east of Tumbra, being closest to the Esportivan Federal Republic mainland, and coolest in the north. Heavy snowfall can occur in winter and early spring on high ground, and occasionally settles to great depth away from the hills.

Some packing advice that the Foreign Office has for travellers is to pack warm clothes. Always, always consult the Met Office, the Environment Agency or the Lackish Environment Protection Agency for additional information and advice on the weather.

If tourists decide to go on hikes, here are some precautions to take.

- never practice these activities alone;
- always hire an experienced guide from a reputable company;
- buy travel insurance that covers helicopter rescue and medical evacuation;
- ensure that your physical condition is good enough to meet the challenges of your activity;
- advise a family member or friend of your itinerary, including when you expect to be back to camp;
- know the symptoms of acute altitude sickness, which can be fatal;
- sign up with your embassy's location service; and,
- obtain detailed information on trekking routes or ski slopes before setting out and do not venture away from marked trails or slopes.

Tumbra: Religion

While previously an extremely devout nation, Tumbra has seen a gradually increasing number of people becoming non-religious ever following 1945. The two main religions present in the nation include Humanism and Protestantism, with 36% and 22% of the population identifying themselves as that. 21% of people identified as non-religious, while the remainder were made up of minor religions.

That being said, however, tourists should not attempt to incite violence against any creed or faith - such an incident will result in immediate deportation to the tourist's home country and a ban on entering the country for five years minimum.

Tumbra: Travel

Travelling to Tumbra is not very difficult. All one needs to do is to obtain a visa before setting off on one's trip to Tumbra, which will be approved 95% of the time - unless there is a very blatant security concern, after which the tourist will be detained and brought in for questioning. International flights land at many airports throughout Tumbra, though the main airport served is the Goldlion City International Airport, in the south-west of Goldlion.

Within Tumbra itself, however, it is more than recommended that tourists use public transport when commuting in Tumbra. Tumbra has an extensive rail network, and tourists are advised to use those instead, as the roads are excellent but are often narrow and congested, especially in urban areas.

Traffic drives on the left. Use caution when entering a traffic circle (roundabout). Pedestrians should use caution when crossing streets and be mindful that traffic is usually coming from the opposite direction than what they may be used to.

If using taxis, only use officially marked ones - however, carsharing applications like Uber are allowed in the country.

Tumbra: Language

The lingua franca and the national language is English - most Tumbrans often do not understand much else. The outlying Territories - Lackland, Sofan and Artumo - have their own dialects and languages which are recognised by the constituent countries, but not by the official Tumbran government, which uses English for all official purposes.

Tumbra: Food

Tumbran cuisine is the specific set of cooking traditions and practices associated with Tumbra. Tumbran cuisine has been described as "unfussy dishes made with quality local ingredients, matched with simple sauces to accentuate flavour, rather than disguise it." However, Tumbran cuisine has absorbed the cultural influence of those who have settled here, producing many hybrid dishes, such as chicken tikka masala - the national dish of Tumbra.

Tumbran cuisine has traditionally been limited in its international recognition to the full breakfast, fish and chips, and the Christmas dinner. Other Tumbran dishes include the Sunday roast, steak and kidney pie, shepherd's pie, and bangers and mash. Tumbran cuisine has many regional varieties within the broader categories of Nicodian, Lacklandian and Artumoan cuisine. Each has developed its own regional or local dishes, many of which are geographically indicated foods such as Cornish pasties, the Pilkshire pudding, Cumberland Sausage, Arbroath Smokie, and Artumo cakes.

Tumbra: Sports

Tumbra's national sport is football, though rugby union and cricket are often in with a shout. Tumbran supporters are usually very rowdy, sometimes crossing over into hooliganism - something which the authorities have absolutely zero tolerance for, local or otherwise.

It is recommended not to insult football supporters who are drunk, incapitated, or worse. Doing so may spark a riot, which has happened in the past.

The use of fire-related items (like flares) are strictly prohibited inside stadiums. If discovered, the offender will recieve a fine and have the offending item confiscated. Hooliganism is absolutely not tolerated and will be dealt with strictly.[/spoiler]

Mercedini are back for their second World Cup campaign after their successful debut where they jumped into the world rankings at a respectable 87th place. Last time out, Mercedini were placed in the same group with the eventual champions; Unified Sunrise Islands (where they became the only team to beat them in the entire cycle) but losses against relatively easier opponents cost them a potential spot in the playoffs and they eventually finished in 5th place. After that, they were rewarded with a trip to Red Blackiland & Super Llamaland as they were invited to compete in the Cup of Harmony. Familiar patterns were spotted, as Mercedini were thrown into a competitive group with eventual champions Turori. Mercedini fought hard and ended up earning a place in their first Round of 16 in the Cup of Harmony at their first attempt.
This leads to today, with a Mercedinian team with plenty of experience from their previous World Cup as well as leadership with David Bjarnasson at the helm once again. Mercedini are attempting to earn their place at their first World Cup and stun the masses. Friendlies have been aplenty for Mercedini as Bjarnasson attempts to choose his best team for the job. Day 1 of the qualifying campaign will surely be a crucial one as Mercedini attempt to get off to the best possible start. Let's see if they can go one better than last time and make it on the flight to Electrum & Ceni

Mercedinians are generally very peaceful and welcoming to tourists and will only get violent if they are provoked. Cuisine-wise, Mercedinian food is based on Italian cuisine, with flavourful pasta and rice dishes along with stuffed flatbreads and pizzas perfect for carnivores and vegetarians alike, local cuisine will also be available for tourists who want a taste of home. Finally, prices for Mercedinian products and services are generally very cheap thanks to low operating costs, government subsidies and free-trade deals with many countries around the globe. Oisinistan Football Association (OFA) Roster for World Cup

Manager:
Liam Paisley (43)
Liam Paisley is known as the son of former Oisinistani international manager, George Morton. He has had this job for many years now, and has not had much of a hard task with a talented squad, but in Oisinistan's second tournament, this will be crunch time.
Assistant: Clayton Wallis (42)
Clayton Wallis is very mysterious. Nobody really knows much about him.
Physio: Andy Fisher (53)
Tactician: Lee Morrison (36)
Fisher and Morrison both won respective national competitions for their job.

ROSTER:

Goalkeepers
#1 Kane Morton, 23, Red Rangers
Morton is known as the other son of George Morton. He had a fantastic season for Red Rangers last year, conceding just 12 goals in 30 matches.
#2 Paul Leacock, 24, Ajax
Paul Leacock is the vice-captain of Ajax Youth, second in line behnd Oisinistani captain Adam Spearing.
#3 Nick Waldron, 27, Tiptree
Waldron is seen as a wildcard for this tournament. It is unknown why Paisley picked him over goalkeepers such as Jonathan Boxwell, but Paisley has stood by his decision.

Defenders
#4 Killian Yussuf, 23, Ajax
A no-nonsense, hard-tackling center-back, Yussuf is seen as a great prospect for his country and club. He joined Ajax at the age of 8.
#5 Adam Spearing, 29, Ajax (Captain)
Spearing is the heart and soul of the Oisinistani team. His leadership as captain of both club and country have led both club and country to many achievements.
#6 Jake Innes, 21, ETO
Innes can play in a wingback role or in a fullback role. His lucky break came last year when his side ETO, who play in the domestic 4th division, won the Coupe d'Oisinistan last year.
#7 Mike Sallins, 23, Red Rangers
Mike Sallins is Oisinistan's former U-21 captain, who has been dropped many times from the side. He is seen as the team's backbone.
#8 Neil Claridge, 24, Unattached
Built like a brick wall, Claridge hasn't played competitive club football in 2 years, sticking instead to kettlebells, in which he is a former world champion.
#9 Padraig Jefferson, 32, Ajax
Nicknamed 'Poddo Jeffo' by Ajax fans, Jefferson is one of the best headers in his domestic league.
#10 Buster Jones, 31, Tiptree
Jones is the nephew of former Oisinistani international, Lazarus Jones. Buster's real name is Dominic.
#11 Jerry Byrne, 24, Maldron Rovers
Real name is Jeremy Byrne, formerly of ETO,

Midfielders
#12 Moki Smith, 23, Tiptree (Right Free Kick Taker)
Smith's mother is Kilmorian, hence his dark skin tone and unusual name.
#13 Rex Lee, 26, Eagles
Lee is one of the 3 Musketeers, along with Dennis Cook and Liam Gorecha, who were considered the best midfielders in the league. All three play for Eagles.
#14 Sebastian Lewis, 31, Ajax (Vice Captain)
Paisley has been slated by the press for appointing a player like Lewis as vice-captain, but Lewis is a well known talent.
#15 Inaki Sheridan, 24, ETO
Inaki's mother is Kilmorian, like Moki Smith.
#16 Jason Cox, 26, Red Rangers
Cox is known as a tricky winger with excellent footing.
#17 Dennis Cook, 31, Eagles
Dennis is a defensive midfielder with bags of stamina and energy.
#18 Barry Wiltry, 23, Maldron Rovers
Wiltry is considered to be very lucky to be called up, after a video surfaced of him in 2015, racially abusing a fellow club member.
#19 Will Newman, 24, Unattached
Newman recently left ETO after a dispute.

Forwards
#20 Jake Pollock, 28, Ajax (Penalty Taker)
A lethal finisher, Pollock is known to be an excellent penalty taker, with great composer.
#21 Khalifa Cisse, 18, Eagles (Left Free Kick Taker)
The youngest player in the team, Cisse is seen as a great player with loads of potential, who is a deadly finisher. He was noticed by Eagles after he helped his side, Defensor FC, to an unbeaten season of 30 games, in which he scored a cool 62 goals.
#22 Bryan Oliver, 24, ETO
Oliver's fiery temperament has seen him fall out with Paisley on and off the pitch, but is nonetheless an important part of the squad.
#23 Liam Spithe, 21, Tiptree
Spithe was playing in the domestic 7th division last season, when Tiptree saw his potential, as did assistant manager Clayton Wallis, who recommended him to Paisley.

Typical formation: 4-3-3

Eastfield Lodge Roster for World Cup 76

Demonym: Eastfielder

Eastfield Lodge is a pretty glorious nation, somewhat situated in Northern Rushmore - in reality, there's a very small island (acting as a transport hub) which hosts a portal linking the NSverse to a small bubble universe, wherein the rest of the Imperial Commonwealth is located (barring a couple of nations, but they’re linked up in other ways). The IC part describes the fact that there are several empires contained within one superstructure – divisions which are somewhat reflected in the convoluted league structure.

Those of you who know this nation well however will wonder what has happened to the Whoniverse (the universe of Doctor Who, the TV programme). Don’t worry, I will (hopefully) RP what went on. To those who don’t know, this nation used be in the NSverse, but due to the acts of a lone madman from The Holy Empire (mad, or pitiful, the legends are a bit shaky), Eastfield Lodge almost vanished from existence, leaving behind a small island (now in Rushmore), attached to a portal connecting here to the Whoniverse. Things happened, the portal became unstable, and we had to form a bubble universe, and as a result, the resulting temporal shockwave both wiped out all electronic records, and did some weird stuff to people’s ages (hence why some names in the team may seem recognisable).

Anyways, because of the initial portal, whilst humans are the overwhelming majority of the populace here, don't be surprised to find several other races and much advanced technology here. Some more historical information can be found here, in lieu of a factbook (NB: a lot of the information there is inaccurate though, TG me for clarification).

Back to the nation itself, Eastfield Lodge is probably the best place to live in the entirety of Rushmore, according to the WA at any rate. Amongst the accolades heaped upon are: Most Compassionate Citizens, Most Beautiful Environments, Happiest Citizens, Most Dedicated Public Healthcare, Healthiest Citizens, Least Corrupt Government, Longest Average Lifespan, Lowest Crime Rates, Nicest Citizens, Largest Public Transportation Department, Safest, Smartest Citizens, Most Popular Tourist Destinations, Best Weather and Largest Welfare Programs. Also of note is the fact that, in a region containing Saintland, Eastfield Lodge is the Most Devout nation, with Islam being the national religion, and that we have the Highest Police Ratios, so do not be alarmed by the sheer number of police officers.

Lodger City Memorial Stadium
Location: New Lodger City
Capacity: 150,000
Description: The home of Eastfielder football, the stadium was built on the ruins of the old capital of Eastfield Lodge, Lodger City, which was flattened in a double disaster (severe floods from dams bursting and an explosion from an unknown source, killing much of the population of the city and rendering the city useless. Administrative functions were transferred over to Lodgertia, the city began to be rebuilt, and it was decided that this stadium would be one of the monuments erected in place. The inside walls contains inscriptions of the names of all the dead – just under 9 million. The stadium used to play host to the two classic giants of EL football – RGS Athletic and VLC FC - until both had their new stadiums finished; it is now only used for internationals and cup matches.

Parliament Stadium
Location: Lodgertia
Capacity: 80,000
Description: Formerly the second largest stadium in Eastfield Lodge (until King Iqbal II and Vorgan Park were completed), behind the Memorial Stadium in New Lodger City, it was built in the centre of Lodgertia, the capital of Eastfield Lodge, and the Imperial Commonwealth. It was named due to the fact that the Parliament is based just a few hundred metres down the road; in fact, the original stadium was actually joined to the Parliament building, as an area where MPs could watch or even engage in sport with the public, as well as being a designated protest site. However, with Lodgertia becoming more built up, it was decided that the stadium needed to be built up as well. It is home to Lodgertia United and Lodgertia City alongside being temporary hosts of RGS Athletic and VLC FC (when Lodger City was being rebuilt), and in the past has hosted several international matches, including the final of SBCC 27 and a group in both stages of Market Cup 4.

Manager: Lowell Brown
Age: 58. Manager of Seaton Town, Brown is known in Eastfield Lodge for being one of the fairest and impartial managers in the top flight - if his team were lucky with a decision, he will not claim otherwise. Prior to being selected as National Team manager, he had managed on the international scene previously, being put in charge of both the men’s and women’s Olympic football teams.
Coach: Shabeen Ahmad III
Age: 63. He went down in Eastfield Lodge history as having scored an absurd 201 goals in 215 appearances for the EL national team (records are still being compiled, but he looks likely to be the human player with the highest tally). Still an inspiration to everyone and even at this age his skill is noticeable, even if his agility has waned. He has been the main offensive coach for several World Cups now.

Formation: 4-1-2-3
Image

The formation is a weird variant on the classic basic 4-3-3. Here, there is the one holding midfielder, and the other two are pushed up to play just off the ST as attacking midfielders, whilst the WFs are also slightly tucked in from a usual position. This allows them more of an equal choice of either cutting in or going out wide for the cross, which may be met by the other winger or one of the midfielders. The front five can drift to other positions at any time, just to keep defences on their toes. Defensively, the AMs will drop back and slightly out wide or into the middle as required, and are decently proficient at dispossessing the ball and using it well. The DM is mainly there to guard the defence, and is adept at picking out a pass (short or long), and helping to dictate plays. The CBs are as standard, but the FBs are given the freedom to roam forwards as far as they can get away with, and more often than will get involved in attacking plays, with some crosses from both deep and closer in.
In terms of goal scoring, the ST will get the bulk of the goals, with good contributions from both the AMs and the WFs as well. The WFs will get most of the assists, followed closely by the AMs, then the ST and DM.

Strongest XI:
GK: Veronica Puppy

RB: Abdur Rehman
CB: Dylan Bell Jnr
CB: Charlie Richardson
LB: Hamaad Siddique

Select my scorers: Y
Give out yellow cards to my players: Y (maximum five, TG me with a reason for more)
Give out red cards to my players: Y (only one more than the number given to your team, maximum of three - i.e. I get two red cards, you must have at least one)
RP injuries to my players: Y (Maximum 3, no career-ending injuries without my explicit permission – I reserve right to how long players are out; you can RP how severe it looks)
Godmod injuries: Y (within some reason)
Godmod scoring events: Y (Have fun.)
Godmod other events: Y (TG me if you're planning on killing anybody though, or anything really extreme.)

If I do RP, I will include the line-up for the next match in my RP post, along with any suspensions/injuries. If there is no line-up, look through my posts and check for current suspensions/injuries, but otherwise it’s fine. Also, if you're RP'ing any part of my match, please use the full name Eastfield Lodge at least once, it helps me find the RP.

NB: As the people of EL are extremely compassionate, and very civilised (despite what you may say about the religion), it would be uncharacteristic for the coaches/players to lose their temper, dive deliberately (jumping out of the way of bad tackles and falling awkwardly doesn't count), to be sent to the stands (if the ref is clearly very biased however...), spit, argue with the ref or fight. Players will also tend to inform the referee about mistakes/clarifications in judgement regarding throw-ins, fouls given but with no contact and goal kicks/corner kicks (plus other bouts of honesty - up to you).

Here is the Gregoryisgodistan soccer team's roster. Our team is nicknamed the Foot Slaves. Our style modifier is -5

Head Coach: Secret Police Agent Dominic Button
Assistant Coaches: Slave Beater 8AUSUJA and Horse Beater LOICHESDRACKX394EUD

Gregoryisgodistani names have the title first, which is usually whatever job they have. Then comes either the government ID sequence (for commoners) or the name (for government VIP's.) If that is the same, they are the same person even if the title is different. However, government VIPs can change their name whenever they want.

All players play domestically in the Gregoryisgodistan Soccer League except as noted. Only government VIPs are permitted to play club soccer outside Gregoryisgodistan. All clubs are accurate as of the last UICA cycle.

Lineup:

GK Prune Farmer 3818F - Prune Farmers FC (Age 22)
DL Police Agent Jorge Warlord - FC 17 June (Age 29)
DC Enemy Crusher Fatty Footy - AC Enemy Crushers (Age 24)
DC Prune Farmer HUXU88238ASF - Prune Farmers FC (Age 25)
DR Slave Catcher I913AFBSBFI239 - Police Squad (Age 27)
DMC History Teacher CZDE9745 - Coastal Soccer Club (Age 26)
ML Soldier 0EDCK13DHI - Military FC (Age 25)
MR Prune Farmer 913881 - FC 17 June (Age 33)
OMC Guy Who Cleans Up Behind The Elephant at the Circus P0120AZNNAU - FC 17 June (Age 24) (A)
FW Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Xylocrap Notatypo - FC 17 June (Age 20)
FW Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Death to San Jose Guayabal -Winnipeg United (Quebec) (Age 30) (C)

Bench:

GK TV Repairman 99SFIDSF - November 5 SC (Age 21)
GK Youth IKDUCHALAD - Coastal Soccer Club (Age 16)
DL/DC Xylocarp Smasher XILE42 - FC 17 June (Age 18)
DC Prune Farmer LISHERWIZE - Prune Farmers FC (Age 21)
DC Police Officer YSHERKOW91239 - Police Squad (Age 27)
DR Slave Beater YUSEAXA - FC 17 June (Age 24)
ML Hacker Fred'); DROP TABLE Rosters;-- - Rouyn-Noranda Coal Diggers FC (Quebec) (Age 26)
ML/MR Pervert Chaser KIS9DLLMZMAABDB - Missile Minders (Age 30)
MC/OMC/DMC Slave Beater SUAXMC91 - FC 17 June (Age 26)
FW Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Robert Possibe - Real Campo Grande (Valladares) (Age 27)
FW Loyal Youth Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Death To Dumpy O'Rumpy And His Spectacularly Hideous Hair (Age 17)

Notes: Soccer Captain Laredo Potato has retired from the national team. ... Youth IKDUCHALAD is the youngest player ever to be named to a Gregoryisgodistani senior squad, but as the third-string goalkeeper, it is unlikely he will ever play. Indeed, behind two young goalkeepers on the depth chart, he may never play.... Youth XILE42 has been selected to the new title of Xylocarp Smasher now that he is an adult. He smashes xylocarps/coconuts, especially the sapient ones ... Soldier 0EDCK13DHI is one of two members of Military FC not to be killed in the Great War, mainly because he was playing with the national team.... As part of an effort to have all citizens identify with Lord Almighty Gregory, the Gregoryisgodistani government eliminated birthdays except for Lord Almighty Gregory's, and all citizens saw their ages increase on June 1, the Gregoryisgodistani New Year. Lord Almighty Gregory's Birthday is June 17. All citizens must give him a present.

OOC: If you don't get the hacker reference, see this comic. If you still don't get it, entering that name as a database input in certain programming languages will delete all the rosters from the file. Feel free to RP this crashing your computers or something like that.

Uniforms (by Libertad Sportswear):
Image

From left to right, our home kit, our away kit, and our third kit (in case of clash.)

Home games will be played at Lord Almighty Gregory National Stadium, the newly rebuilt national stadium in Capital District. It was rebuilt following the Wolfopian terrorist attack (OOC: a false flag by Gregoryisgodistan's government) and seats 175,617. It is a guaranteed sellout for every game since people will be forced to attend if it does not sell out.

Image

These crimes are punishable by death in Gregoryisgodistan. While we are somewhat more lenient for foreigners, if you flagrantly violate them while in Gregoryisgodistan you will be punished severely. Probably fatally. So don't do it. As an example of what is flagrant and what isn't, farting quietly or privately will be overlooked if you are a foreigner, but holding a "Who can have the smelliest fart" contest in public will get all the farters executed.

RP Permissions: Basically, do whatever you want but expect reciprocation. If you card my players, I'll card yours. If you kill my players, I'll kill yours. Just don't kill Lord Almighty Gregory, our head of state and alleged deity. Also, if you are going to refer to my nation by a different name for IC reasons (like Gregoryisnotgodistan) please either TG me or leave an OOC note saying you are referring to Gregoryisgodistan. I frequently search for mentions of my nation, but if it's not mentioned by name, that doesn't help. So either mention it by name in an OOC note or TG me to give me a heads up. You don't need to wait for permission with the TG, but please send it so I can respond to the RP. Also, striking out the "isgod" part (as in Gregoryisgodistan) causes it to not show up on the search, so this will not fulfill the notification requirement. However, feel free to use that style as long as you either mention me by name without the strikethrough in the same post or TG me to let me know about the post. And don't flagrantly violate the laws of Gregoryisgodistan while in Gregoryisgodistan and expect to get away with it. Taunting us with chants of "coconut" or shirtless fans while we are playing away or at neutral sites is fine and encouraged, but if you try it in Gregoryisgodistan, those fans are probably going to die. Painfully. Which is fine by me if it’s OK with you. TG me if you have questions as to what is flagrant and what isn’t. Also, no completely unrealistic scoring events such as 80 meter goals.
Gregoryisgodistan, population 75,000,000. All citizens are required to worship Lord Almighty Gregory, our head of state, as a deity.

NEPHARA
Preferred Formation:
4-4-2
Style Modifier: 0
Home Stadium: The Farham Arena in Sabrefell. Capacity of 88,000, no attached club.
Kit Supplier: JMC
Nickname: The Cormorants

Champions and then third - Nephara's getting the hang of this whole 'World Cup' thing. Coming second in the Campionato Esportiva may not have been ideal but it was nothing to sneeze at, either. Nephara's stars from winning the World Cup are, for the most part, entering their prime, and there's definitely the potential for the best squad of 23 in Nepharim history in this squad somewhere... but despite qualifying being comfortable apart from some late blips, it seemed to ask more questions than it answered. Tsattalios was heralded as the bright new future but his hopes were torpedoed with two howlers against unranked Northi Arabia, their first-choice rightback Koehler was injured. Still... they're backing themselves to challenge at the sharp end, and most of the world seems to agree.

First Team and Tactics
Image
As always, the Cormorants play hard, physical and compact football on the defensive and quick, broad and ruthless on the attack, especially loving to absorb pressure and hit on the break. Set pieces are also something of a specialty, especially with Ashdown taking them. The fullbacks are expected to overlap with their wingers and provide much of the team's width, with Scafidis (/Stavanger) the big target woman and Amokachi (/Cautcher/Cantor) the quick-footed finisher beside them.

Staff
Manager - Reinhard Shale - Age 55
Assistant Manager - Michael Brandon - Age 42

Reinhard Shale is an experienced manager who's been there and done it all. Making his name by bringing Maximum Rovers into the Premiership and establishing them as a punchy underdog, he won the league with AFC Treason before managing Buyan to their finest performances. He was ultimately sacked after a dip in performances, but not to be dissuaded, he became the first manager to win the Premiership with two different clubs by bringing Crisisbless to the title. A popular presence with the press, Shale is a motivator without compare and an underrated tactician with an eye for telling substitutions. Michael Brandon might well be his successor - a legendary figure for the Cormorants and Directus as a holding midfielder, Nephara's first ever player to be widely regarded as world-class, he's taken his incisive knowledge of the sport and razor-sharp intellect into coaching.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Justinian Hargrave (Image Starling) - Age 31 - 33 caps, 11 clean sheets
12 - GK - Apostolos Tsattalios (Image Vermillion Rage) - Age 23 - 7 caps, 2 clean sheets
20 - GK - Matt Vintner (Image Brinemouth) - Age 29 - 7 caps

Justinian Hargrave remains the steady, stalwart presence between the posts. Not an especially modern goalkeeper, but a commanding leader and an excellent shot-stopper who rarely makes a mistake. Tsattalios is his most likely successor. Hopes are very high indeed for the young man, and his tendency to sweep behind what is now a relatively old defence could count in his favour. But while the qualifiers seemed to be grooming Tsattalios for the World Cup, his inconsistency made him too much of a risk, in Shale's mind, after having two particular nightmares - but the competition is bringing the best out of Hargrave. Vintner isn't in the starting conversation but is a well-proven, modern goalkeeper.

Defenders
2 - RB - Gareth Westmead (Image Violence Chariots) - Age 26 - 18 caps
3 - LB - Sieglinde Lohengrin (Image Crisisbless) - Age 22 - 8 caps
5 - CB - Calliope Katskalidis (Image AFC Treason) - Age 30 - 97 caps, 6 goals
6 - CB - Malachite Scharner (Image Jungle Strike) - Age 27 - 61 caps, 4 goals
13 - CB - Diedrich Frostmarris (Image Molsbik Arkjet) - Age 25 - 21 caps, 1 goal
19 - RB/LB - Scylla Vyntra (Image AFC Treason) - Age 28 - 72 caps, 4 goals
22 - CB - Dieter Konoval (Image Chatswood) - Age 23 - 6 caps

Katskalidis and Scharner - who recently became the first Nepharim to play in Vilita - were the centre-halves that saw Nephara win a World Cup and they've only become stronger since, both individually and as a powerful partnership. The attacking fullbacks Vyntra (usually on the left) and Westmead add punch and width to the attack, but they always get their defensive yardwork done. Frostmarris and Konoval are both extremely promising centre-halves in their own right - the former even won caps for Apox shortly before the federation folded, the latter has been unflinching under pressure for Chatswood. Sieglinde Lohengrin has recently broken through for Crisisbless, and anyone capable of unseating Catheline Stockinger probably has a future with the Cormorants - tall, elegant and clever. Starling rightback Mirko Koehler, Nephara's first-choice rightback, is missing through a badly-timed MCL injury - and Westmead is defensively vulnerable.

Midfielders
4 - HM - Tanith Rainsford (Image Mâ Âlâmëómë, vc) - Age 30 - 93 caps, 4 goals
7 - RM - Adnan Szalai (Image Ulsa) - Age 26 - 62 caps, 20 goals
8 - CM - Elaine Ashdown (Image Hastmead Diamante, c) - Age 33 - 145 caps, 46 goals
11 - LM - Lienke Vesper (Image AFC Treason) - Age 28 - 64 caps, 11 goals
13 - RM - Mariska Woodspur (Image AFC Treason) - Age 24 - 14 caps, 3 goals
14 - CM - Konrad Gosforth (Image Brinemouth) - Age 24 - 11 caps, 2 goals
16 - LM - Jess Silkman (Image Brinemouth) - Age 25 - 10 caps, 2 goals
23 - HM - Helmut Chilmark (Image Chatswood) - Age 23 - 7 caps

This is Elaine Ashdown's last cycle - she plans to retire after the World Cup. She's still a world-class midfielder, just her legs have slowed somewhat. She's partnered ably by Rainsford, as ever. Rainsford's never been quick, but she's an exemplary holding midfielder in all other aspects. Lienke Vesper is held in high regard by Shale both individually and for her synergy with club teammate Vyntra - something that the dynamic young Woodspur shares. Adnan Szalai is by this stage in his and Ashdown's career arguably the best player on the team, with searing runs down the right, a mazy unpredictability with his runs and a street-footballer's way of going through people either to cross, pass or score himself. Helmut Chilmark proved a strong, muscular midfield deputy for Rainsford, while Konrad Gosforth has proven very effective in a 'relay' system, replacing Ashdown in the last half-hour to add pace and drive t the centre of the park. On the wings, Silkman and Woodspur are both tenacious, hard-running battlers.

Forwards
9 - ST - Chrysanthe Scafidis (Image Brinemouth) - Age 27 - 47 caps, 20 goals
10 - ST - Claudia Cautcher (Image Starling) - Age 29 - 12 caps, 7 goals
15 - ST - Igrene Cantor (Image AFC Treason) - Age 28 - 22 caps, 10 goals
17 - ST - Dragan Stavanger (Image Creed United) - Age 22 - 5 caps, 2 goals
21 - ST - Penumbra Amokachi (Image Mâ Âlâmëómë) - Age 27 - 72 caps, 42 goals

One big, one small - that's the blueprint here. Scafidis is the big, a lanky tower of lean muscle with a keen intelligence for getting into the perfect position, and acts as an ideal foil for the wonderfully arrogant, classy Amokachi, a woman who can seemingly snap her fineers and score a goal. As far as backups go, the dynamic Dragan Stavanger has bolted into the side - the Creed United striker came out of nowhere last season to score a goal every other game. Cautcher can match Amokachi at her best, but she's older, slower and has had an injury-cruelled history, only recently staying fit the past couple of seasons. Mostly. Cantor has slipped somewhat in the pecking order, but she has a laser-guided hammer of a left boot. All in all, the forwards are in rude health, and can be relied upon to finish what the midfield starts.

BRENECIA
Preferred Formation:
4-3-3
Style Modifier: +2
Home Stadium: Kingsgarden - a 58,000 all-seater in the capital of Rozelle.
Kit Supplier: JMC
Nickname: the Patriots

Qualifying wasn't without a hitch or two (when is it ever?) but the Patriots still qualified reasonably comfortable in first place as first seeds. For once, their defence looked really good and the side just... kept on clicking. This is a real Golden Generation for Brenecia - they can't afford to squander it. Hopes are high.

As usual, there is a quiet reliance on foreigners qualifying through parentage - Sparwasser was born and raised in Nephara, Uffington and Trevelyan in Apox. Combined with Buyanese migrants Skorupska and Szukala, this team has a fairly multicultural feeling about it.

Honours
Campionato Esportiva 14 and 17 champions.
Second at Cup of Harmony 66 and Campionato Esportiva 16.
Third place at the Trindl Cup 2.

Cullen's side plays lightning-quick, cavalier football, constantly attacking at pace. It's an exceptionally quick but not especially technical side, and maximising opportunities ensures that a few will land in the net.

Staff
Manager - Raven Cullen - Age 53
Asst. Manager - Fiona Sylver - Age 48

A controversial appointment, or perhaps not controversial enough as the perceived safe emergency option - roughly the same style as Bale, Cullen has had a mostly-successful A-League record but never managed abroad. Most recently working with Rozelle, Cullen's squad selections and tactics have... barely changed. That said, any criticism melted away after a wildly successful World Cup (albeit the 'win' over Eura will probably need an asterisk beside it) and a Campionato Esportiva trophy. Sylver has stayed on as assistant and looks to have a bright future in coaching, tipped by many to take over the job someday.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Mathis Woodgate (Image Mallox) - Age 27 - 72 caps, 22 clean sheets
12 - GK - Geneva Urquhart (Image Northern Union) - Age 34 - 55 caps, 23 clean sheets
20 - GK - Andreas Sparwasser (Image Crisisbless United) - Age 25 - Uncapped

By this stage, Woodgate is the unquestioned first-choice goalkeeper - one of the team's best performers most days, always there to bail out a sometimes shaky defence. He's a legitimately world-class shot-stopper, and a very capable goalkeeper in all regards. Geneva Urquhart is an excellent deputy, as well - though at 33, she isn't going to be in the frame much longer. A surprising callup is also on the cards for Sparwasser, who proved a capable goalkeeper in Nephara's top two tiers and will be a capable understudy - though it's unlikely he'll be needed. He's Nepharim by birth and upbringing, and was yet to set foot in the country he's already represented at youth level until the qualifiers.

Defenders
2 - RB - Czeslawa Szukala (Image Falkner United) - Age 24 - 34 caps, 1 goal
3 - LB - Ophelia Lovelock (Image Sabrefell Athletic) - Age 25 - 39 caps, 5 goals
5 - CB - Anaximander Scrivener (Image Brigham) - Age 29 - 58 caps, 3 goals
6 - CB - Brandon Duguid (Image North Laithland) - Age 30 - 87 caps, 2 goals
18 - CB - Peter Uffington (Image Mliona-Lpaka AFC) - Age 24 - 12 caps, 1 goal
19 - LB - Saoirse Hourihane (Image North Hall) - Age 24 - 8 caps
22 - CB - Rostyn Bradden (Image Lajuno) - Age 28 - 46 caps, 4 goals

Eura-based central defenders Bradden and Scrivener make for an extremely physical wall that's difficult to punch through. Uffington is clearly talented, and likely one for future tournaments - though if required he serves as auxiliary rightback. The measured Brandon Duguid is a classy operator who has been out of favour under Cullen. The team relies on dynamic attacking fullbacks Szukala and Lovelock for much of its attacking width - emerging talent Hourihane is not to be taken likely, either.

Midfielders
4 - DM - Catherine Gryphon (Image Northern Union, c) - Age 27 - 64 caps
8 - CM - Aleksandra Skorupska (Image Trothwands Evolution) - Age 25 - 36 caps, 12 goals
11 - CM - Catherine Purrington (Image Vermillion Rage) - Age 34 - 153 caps, 49 goals
14 - CM - Sander Balliol (Image Tanrisal) - Age 24 - 6 caps, 1 goal
16 - CM - Elsie Drover (Image Rozelle) - Age 23 - 25 caps, 7 goals
21 - DM - Matt Ruffan (Image Kingsgrove) - Age 23 - 6 caps

A very attacking midfield presents itself for selection, with many strong options for the side. The first-choice trio is comprised of Skorupska - a quick harrier with a great passing range and terrorising shot - Gryphon - a technically skilled and calm influence in the centre - and Purrington - one-footed, overweight and wonderfully gifted. In the wings to replace Purrington someday, Drover is a genuinely thrilling talent who burst onto the scene a couple of seasons ago and will be looking to be nudged into the frame a bit more. Alexsander van Sorenson Balliol (who understandably goes by Sander), despite being a part of That Disastrous South Rathia Campaign, is an impressive and talented playmaker and driving force in the midfield. Straightforward defensive midfielder Matt Ruffan forced his way onto the plane after some assured performances in qualifying.

Forwards
7 - RW - Squire Trevelyan (Image FC Jansberg) - Age 26 - 60 caps, 23 goals
9 - ST - Ursula Rankin (Image Tanrisal) - Age 29 - 73 caps, 44 goals
10 - LW - Roisin Carroll (Image CSKA Quebec) - Age 26 - 66 caps, 13 goals
13 - LW - Sienna Fallon (Image North Hall) - Age 26 - 12 caps, 4 goals
15 - RW/ST - Karena Foran (Image Hellinic-Rouge) - Age 26 - 24 caps, 10 goals
17 - ST - Fionn Lynch (Image Lotus Park) - Age 25 - 12 caps, 6 goals
23 - RW - Ronan Bowditch (Image Real Azuris) - Age 29 - 25 caps, 8 goals

The best part of the squad with a fairly rich assortment to pick and choose from. A fairly well-entrenched set of starters in the physical, muscular Trevelyan - the most expensive Brenecian in history - the reliable, fiery Rankin and the technical, drifting Carroll can unlock most any defence. Fallon is a very orthodox option who puts a lot of effort into everything she does - similar story with Bowditch, who has been dominant in Cosumar and has worked his way up the pecking order. Karena Foran is an impact substitute par excellence, smashing down weary defences and with a dominant scoring rate in Brenecia and Pasarga. Fionn Lynch is young, incisive and very promising, and was a surprise call-up for the last World Cup - no surprises this time, though, as his scoring rate (if a little flat-track) can attest to.

Audioslavia is, both ICly and OOCly, rather ancient. The country was founded on December 17th 2002, a period regarded as 'pre-history' by many. The nation originally CTE'd in 2006, was revived briefly in 2007 and 2009, and enjoyed a proper resurgence at the start of 2012, locating itself in Atlantian Oceania indefinitely after IC centuries of rivalries with various nations in the region.

The Audioslavia national side participated in World Cups 4 to 29, made an abortive comeback in World Cup 37, and rejoined the world of international football properly back in World Cup 59. The ancient Audioslavia side qualified for all but one of the World Cups it entered (a young Audioslavia failed during the WC5 qualifying playoffs) and generally maintained a place in top twenty of the world rankings, peaking at #1 during the qualifying phases of World Cups 20 and 21.

Paradoxically, the national team has seen more success in its modern form - a period where quick success is much more difficult to achieve than in the early days. Whereas those early years yielded only the inaugural U21 World Cup and a string of losing finals in the World Cup proper, the modern team won the Baptism of Fire tournament before WC59 and triumphed in the thirty-fifth, thirty-eighth and thirty-ninth installments of the AOCAF Cup. The side have also reached the final of the AOCAF cup on four other occasions and have reached as far as the semi-finals of the Cup of Harmony.

Modern Audioslavia finally won the World Cup itself in cycle 63, a victory that required a huge amount of luck and some very po-faced, negative football. Audioslavia managed to win the tournament despite going into the qualifiers with a ranking of #53 in the world. Four years later, in World Cup 64, the national side proved that this win, as fortunate as it was, was no flash in the pan when they again took home the World Cup trophy, completing the first ever 'double-double' of winning back-to-back AOCAF and World Cup championships. After forty-three cycles, Audioslavia returned to the rank of #1 in the world.
Audioslavian footballers tend to be a little on the small side, with few players standing over six feet (1.83m) tall. The average Audioslavian footballer stands at around about 5'8 (1.72m) or thereabouts, though most goalkeepers and central defenders are at least 5'11.

Audioslavian footballers are renowned for their high fitness levels and stamina, though a comparatively lithely framed squad do occasionally have problems when facing large, physical teams. Quick, one-touch passing is the key to Audioslavia's midfield prowess, which likes to play at a high tempo, and the side often take advantage of some fleet-footed wingers and full-backs to play through-balls beyond the opposition's defensive line after having created the space with some quick interchanges. Audioslavian attacking football was built on the idea that two crisp, quick passes around the opponent's penalty area will lead to a goalscoring opportunity, and as such the team's forward line throughout history has been littered with quick-thinking play-makers and dead-eye finishers.

Recent Audioslavian sides haven't been without their weaknesses. Since the retirement of the players that led the nation to glory in cycles 63 and 64 the teams have tended to lack true leadership figures on the pitch. Our nation's footballers tend to be stubborn with regards to letting peers tell them what to do. Audioslavian teams sometimes tend towards disorder and in-fighting when truly on the back-foot - say, when one or two goals behind in a game - and are easily disheartened when things start to go wrong. On the pitch, the side's lack of physical strength means defending against corners is often a problem, despite a well-drilled defensive line. Marauding full-backs can be susceptible to counter-attacks via the wings, and very few centre backs in Audioslavia are particularly quick. One major problem in recent years has been a lack of imagination when going forward, leading to the likes of 6'4 Dragan Kryznjak being picked ahead of arguably more talented forwards. Kryznjak's goalscoring record speaks for itself, but some argue that the team's over-reliance on long-balls when going forward has cost them a few important games in recent years.

Kontrapuntzeka has long been the name of Audioslavia's style of play, taken from the Auskadian word for 'counterpunch'. Audioslavia's ability to hold teams at bay for long periods before hurting them via quick counter-attacks and short bursts of activity helped the side to its two World Cup victories. As the years have gone by, Audioslavia have had to veer away from the style as opponents start to adapt and change. The system that won two World Cups in a row doesn't quite hold against modern football teams. The national team have never really adapted a new style, however

Audioslavia's squad has traditionally consisted of a multitude of Audioslavians plying their trade abroad, including a number of nationalised foreign-born players. The progression of the LigAnaia, however, and the success of the Audioslavian National League afterwards, has seen an larger proportion of domestic-based players make the national team squad. AC Izotz Zubia and 1830 Cathair are the traditional heavyweights of Audioslavian football and have, in the past, provided the national team with an abundance of national team players, but the resurgence of Moreazerua and Itzalovalle as footballing powers, and the arrival of previously unheralded Eletti Valligiani at Audioslavian football's top table, has given the national squad a very domestic feel in recent years.
With Imaslavii having left his post at the end of World Cup 74, Guillermo Sanchez Dysos has been appointed manager after his fine, yet trophyless, run with AC Izotz Zubia. Sanchez-Dysos, once a member of an Audioslavia squad but without even a substitute's appearance to his name, spent his playing career at AC Izotz Zubia, Montfort University, Kingsgrove and Cazadores Cathair.

Sanchez-Dysos, despite his experience overseas, has shown himself to be a proponent of Audioslavia's Kontrapuntzeka style. He started as a divisive figure, what with being half-Krytenian, and that status hasn't been improved on at all, with Audioslavia bowing out of the last two regional championships after defeat to Krytenian opposition.

Roleplaying permissions: We frown on god-modding if there isn't a sense of humour behind it. Everything else is fine. If you'd like to injure a few players or dish out red cards for a particularly harsh game, go right ahead, go hog wild. Want to injure the entire team in a bus-crash? Fine, but make it good, or suffer the humiliation of having your limbs scattered hither and thither via a blast from my mighty ignore-cannon.

One general rule about the Audioslavian national team is that we are very, very often the 'fall guy'. We've lost so many big matches - WC finals, AOCAF finals, you name it - that we've come to thrive on being the big baddie who gets their comeuppance at the end. If your team has a particular strength or tactic that they like to use, by all means use it against us and RP that it worked tremendously. The scorinator may well show us to have won, but don't let us get away with it without having had a jolly good scare first, and make sure to *really* rub it in our faces if you beat us. Anything that makes it fun to RP. We wouldn't have it any other way.

National Info: The Unified Sunrise Islands are, in fact, the religious union of many countries whose names have Sunrise Islands. According to the Liro d'Arceus, a book where the religion of Arceusism is based after; the Sunrise Islands were formed by Arceus to guarantee peace and order. At one point, however, those rules ended up being forgotten by a good portion of the people, so Arceus sent Pokémon to carry its' word. After a brief while with both creatures coexisting, they all came to a term and the Sunrisians then became the people to carry the word of Arceus and follow its' principles.

At first, there was only one Sunrise Islands, known as the Northern Sunrise Islands. They are the most memorable name among the Sunrise Islands and also the one responsible for most of its' accolades. However, that doesn't exclude the other Sunrise Islands, all generated by other PokéDeities who, bored and inspired by Arceus, decided to take a try and create their own pieces of land on different realms. It wouldn't take long for almost all of the Sunrise Islands to end on a secondary realm, where, after the Kirigiri-no-Mikoto incident, all Sunrise Islands ended up joining the realm of the Northern Sunrise Islands. As a result of how out of hand the situation became, there is at least one Sunrise Island for each direction known to any being, even Up and Down; though reports say that they once considered having an All-Around, but that would sound "like a plan of a Spinda" and the closest to that are the Ferris Wheels still on existence at the Sunrise Islands.

Sunrisians mostly use English as their main language, seeing as most of the countries involved, for some rather helpful coincidence, all speak English with some other language but considering most of the Sunrisians have a thing for foreign culture, it's not rare to see that some weird group of people speak your language, even if it's way hidden and original and full of diacritics. In the end, the Sunrisians are a peaceful bunch, only getting to arms when really needed. They consider Pokémon Battling to be a thing, are starting to get used to cars yet have already developed a cure for a bunch of stuff. That's the Sunrise for you. And that's why most people love it.

Football Info: Expect the Sunrisians to dribble often throughout the game, but avoid shooting as much, Alcouin aside. Also, the team will avoid using the starters a lot during the qualifiers, rotating every game.

KORIZLAND UF
Image

Korizland Unified Football, the national team from the nation of Korizland, is proud to make their NationStates World Cup debut. Led on the pitch by Team Captain Greg Eason and Vice Captain Clay Fuller and coached by Quebecois Francois van Maar, the Koriz team is eager to find redemption after their defeat at the hands of the side fielded by New Telegana Rajj (a side often derided as a vanity squad for star player Slodoban Kolarov) during the most recent Baptism of Fire. The team is almost identical to the one fielded for much of the Baptism of Fire tournament, with the exception of the inclusion of defender Wesley Higgins (#21). Korizland UF has been praised by some for the team’s fast and aggressive play, a style complimented by van Maar, though others have noted a general weakness on defense that the team has hoped to combat by bringing in a new goalkeeping and defensive coach Gadyrian Jamil Bousaid, an assistant manager for Al Taedin in Gadyria.

Introduction/Story So Far
Flardania/Kirishima National Football Team also known as the Kitsunes are Flardania's best soccer players. Football is the national sport of Kirishima (Flardania) and the Kitsunes help showcase the KONAMI Premier League . After years of playing domestic play and tragically missing BOF 56 and BOF 57. Kirishima would later enter Baptism of Fire 58 and after just barely exiting the Group stage, Kirishima as the bottom #16 Seed upset #1 Seed San Llera and defeated Maretta to reach the semi-finals. The Kitsunes unfortunately finished fourth and bitter fans refer to the top 3 teams as the "Puppet Show".

Kirishinan expectations were much smaller going into the WC 71 and look to at least qualify for the main cup. The Kitsunes looked like they were contenders early on but struggled as they were in a really difficult Group mixed with Kirishima playing too balanced a game against the high-powered offense while lacking enough offense to dismantle defensive disciplined teams. Kirishima would have a mediocre showing in the Cup of Harmony with the only notable news being the historic upset against Cosumar.

The Kitsunes then went into World Cup 72 with a miserable first half that had Kyosuke on the hot seat until they turned things around and finished 4th in the group, thus giving Hikaru the rank boost he sought. Kirishima then entered into WC 73 with the main objective being finishing at least mid table and entering COH with stronger momentum. The Kitsunes failed to finish midtable (4th) and enter the COH because they shockingly finished 2nd, a feat only predicted by the media in Saintland and won their playoff game to advance to the world cup proper for the first time. The Kitsunes Rank increased by 45, thus leapfrogging the team from 86 to 41 a reflection of the fast rise of the young Kitsune team.

World Cup 74 saw the addition of a new player, Konami Premier League Rookie of the Year Akiho Ubukata. The Kitsune sought to qualify to their second ever World Cup in back to back editions were a tight group and a heartbreaking loss on MD 1 and MD 13 made it seem that the Kitsunes may have to test their luck in the playoffs. The thought impossible unranked Union of American Democrats draw with 14th ranked Turori sent the Kitsunes a heart attack preventing instant qualification where as usual like previous WC and COH the Kitsune upset the strongest team in the group while getting dismantled by everyone else.

With a Historic World Cup 75 , Kirishima sought to 1) Qualify a third time and not miss out on a memorable cup 2) Try and finally Reach round of 16. With the Kitsunes ranked in the 20's and a group draw going according to plan it seemed like that history would be made, and made it was. The Kitsunes had multiple chances they lost due to draws against lowly teams. Emerging from the ashes of the Kitsunes failed campaign is a new rival. One unlike never before seen gone are the days of friendly rivalries with Devonta and in comes a rivalry with Nordeana and of bad blood and hatred for reserved for Anglatia. Not only did they rob the Kitsunes of a playoff berth, they did it in an insulting manner. Gone is the era of Kyosuke as manager, the inexperience fairy tale story of a civilian interim manager with zero experience who brought the Kitsunes to lightning success in qualifying. His failure in being unable to reach a Round of 16 outside of BOF 58 lead to his voluntary and unwanted departure. A World Cup 75 qualifiers that saw once star mid-fielder Seong Mi Soo retire at the end of qualifiers become the new manager leading up to COH 67. With the nation seeking the major tournament Round Of 16 spot the nation so desperately wanted she proved the Kitsunes were not cursed, as she brought the team to the quarterfinals. Now with the question is are the Kitsunes rise stuck or are they ready to qualify again?

Kirishima, as it is called in the East and as Flardania in the West, is an archipelago in the Asia Pacific. Kirishima means literally Mist and Island in Japanese and is known locally as the Islands of the Mist. Kirishima is an archipelago comprising of 1,721 islands. They can be divided into seven large and major islands - Hontō, Zipangu, Yamatai, Reijima, Kiyomisu, Iroshima, and Yajiriguni. Kirishima is an interesting place that is historically made up of Kirishinans which sociologist determined to be remnants of the Gaya Confederacy and some refugees Baekje Kingdom during the rise of the Silla kingdom in Korea in 660 A.D. These people mixed with Japanese who already shipwrecked or settled in the region prior, along as local Asiatic peoples. Each had their own kingdoms that would eventually be united under four Kingdoms which would eventually be divided among Europeans. Namely the French and British. When the french won one of their few theater conflicts in the seven years war they named the land Flardania in honor of the Swedish explorer who discovered the land in the name of France.

Kirishima despite having an Asian majority population, has a decent sized European, African, Arabic minority. The nation is proud of it's very welcoming and tolerant attitude despite how it looks. It is a moderate nation that can be very liberal on some issues and conservative on others. A very important piece of information is the prohibition of smoking tobacco. Kirishinan people believe in a clean body and clean environment even before the world found out about those issues. One may be caught off guard by how clean of litter the cities and metro systems tend to be.

Staff Bio

Seong Mi-Soo Age · 28

This is Seong Mi-Soo's first time coaching. She has played on the national team from World Fair III and BOF 58 until World Cup 75 qualifiers. She is a midfield with high sports IQ and spent a majority of her time observing former manager Hikaru Kyosuke . She like Kyosuke believes that Kirishima should remain an offensive minded team as that what Kirishinans love about the game but the question has always been how offensive should they be. Mi-Soo believes Kyosuke was on the right track but decided to be a twinge more defensive that Kyosuke as to limit the counter attack capabilities of very defensive minded teams.

Makoto Kikuchi Age · 25

Makoto is known as many things a boy? a girl? a miracle worker? Multi-Talented? Nevertheless she has grown up around sports and has always loved it. While attending school she participated in football, Track and Field, swimming, basketball, and cycling. She also was discovered for her musical talents she eventually had to choose what she wanted to do with her life and she chose sports and music. During the offseason, Makoto can be seen in dresses performing on stage or seen in swimwear photo shoots but during football seasons she dons a suit and takes to the field as Manager of the Akihabara Electronic OFC. The two different Makoto Kikuchi. In only her first three seasons she managed to build a solid roster and lead the Electric to their first and second ever title in her first two seasons while finishing second this past season.

Myeong Hyeon Yi Age · 22

Yes the KFA has provided information on the trainer/team doctor. Why do you ask? Because she is the team doctor and since she is part of the team, plays a role in the outcome of matches. With that said there is not much about her to say besides noting she is the team doctor of Akihabara Electronic OFC which is important as the doctor helps prevent injuries and make sure those injured return to field asap. Something needed in such a competitive domestic league.

Starting XI Bio

Miyoko Hōjō Age · 22

If you live in Kirishima you know her, if you watch Kirishinan games you know her, if you have ever faced against Kirishima you know her. Miyoko Hojo is a former culinary student specializing in Chinese Cuisine. As an athletic individual, she was noticed by both basketball and shockingly football scouts for her potential, height and vertical. She decided to give football a try as it had a more flexible scheduled and less chance for injury. The rest was history as she has helped led the Kitsunes to World Cup Qualifications in each of her three World Cup experiences as well as keeping Olympique Imgeum-Si as a serious contender domestically. The scary thing for the opposition is that while she only has three seasons of experience her natural ability makes her a top goalkeeper. How much more of a threat will she be when she truly understands the game.

Eizan Iwamoto Age · 20

Young like the rest of the team but unlike them has the position with the least job security. Iwamoto is a fmr rookie of the year with some pretty big shoes to fill in the historic weak position. Eizan is opportunistic and calculating. Facing off against him can leave opposition dazed and confused. Eizan who sat on the bench last cup cycle will be put through a trial by fire and it remains to be seen if he can heal the kirishinan Achilles heel.

Claire Nguyen Age · 23

Young, beautiful and relatively unknown until quite recently. Claire used to be just another defender on the Akihabara Electronic OFC when in one off season she gained a new manager in Makoto Kikuchi and two new players/eventual best friends Joseph Yabuta and Ayame Fujisaka. Nevertheless, the talented that surrounded her raised her game and she took the league by storm. She is quick, precise, and currently known as the slide tackle queen of Kirishima. The one question that is wondered is will she still be as motivated if she played for someone other than Kikuchi or her two BFF? Nevertheless thankfully for her as well as the fans, do not need to find out as her two best friends are also national team material.

Ayame Fujisaka Age · 22

Speaking of Claire's best friends, Ayame Fujisaka at just the age of 21 is the brains of the national team. It was determined this season that he now had enough experience to be the captain of the squad, a fact that many Kirishinans have known for a long while. Yes, I said he no he is not a she as he is not transgender. (What a tongue twister) Ayame is well known for his cross-dressing nature but don't let your guard down around him as on the pitch he is known for his high football IQ. He is so friendly and knows how to motivate and cheer up anyone. The men and women on the team have always look to him even without the armband. You need someone to talk to he is there, your sore and in need of a massage, he is there. He will do literally anything for you to ensure you will play your maximum potential. He is a reason why claire has gotten so good. If Kyosuke and Kikuchi are the coaches on the sideline then Fujisaka is the coach on the field. A reputation he has proved and established since his debut with Yabuta on the Kairaku Nymphs before they both went to Akihabara. He is a cornerstone of the generation of miracles.

Koharu Miyamoto Age · 21

Koharu is a free spirit both on and off the field whose player type resembles Miyoko Hojo. She is the type that had no prior football experience and was recruited solely based on various intangibles such as speed and stamina in her specific case. A long distance track star in school her father recruited her to play for his Nabaek Sylph a move that had fans stark mad. Sure just a season prior Hojo found success, left back was different from Goalkeeper and many saw it as a parental preference. Koharu worked hard to salvage her father's name and proved herself to consistently be the first name on any teamsheet. If that was enough she added goal scoring to her arsenal so any team unprepared may find themselves shocked by the defender who is the most likely to score in a corner or even more shock to see her sneak past a lagging defender, receive an onside through ball and drill in a goal....once again I remind you she is a defender.

Rin Mizoguchi Age · 18

A year younger and teammate of former rookie of the year, as well as current Primer League champion and first time NT starter, Akiho Ubukata. Cup of Harmony 67 saw the teammate replace the other as the starter. He has helped put Hyuga back on the map and like Akiho is a local from Yamatai prefecture. Seong Mi-Soo is looking to re-add some male strength to the midfield position and it's also hard to deny one of the team's goal scorers a spot.

Pandazi Papadopoulos Age · 29

How to summarize Pandazi Papadopoulos? Well, he is one of the only players on the national team to play on the pre-BOF team, he is the oldest player on the team, and currently the only player on the national team to play abroad. Pandazi is an experienced veteran that the team can count on when the rest of the young team is cold. Papadopoulos is a former captain and is good nay talented at getting the ball to the proper areas of the field.

Ako Izumi Age · 22

Ako is an intelligent, opportunistic, and team oriented girl who is the best passer on the team. Her sole purpose in her opinion was to make others look good though her passing. She loves dribbling the ball and feel immense satisfaction after an assist. Ako has become more of a scorer since she left AC Kawajiri Tanuki, while she did not appreciate how Bianka Schraeder from Armeia treated her team, Ako seemed to realize that while the assist was great she had to once in awhile score herself should the opportunity arise. She is a cornerstone of the generation of miracles and a key part of the Ballista.

Sayo Matsuoka Age · 20

If you asked a Kirishinan who's the first player that come to mind when they think of the national team, chances are the answer will be Yabuta or Matsuoka. Sayo Matsuoka has been on the news or mentioned on the news worldwide more than any other player on the team including Papadopoulos, who has a nine year age advantage on her. This is surprising considering how shy she was but has metamorphosed into a more outspoken girl. It all started when Sayo while playing in Armeia remarked on how Bianka Schreader left Kawajiri. What resulted was a huge ordeal. Long story short when the Armeian league ended, Matsuoka returned home to a hero's welcome and fire in her eyes. With new resolve (and testing herself in a mixed league) she had finally earned a starting National Team spot. Matsuoka is a quick and agile goal scorer who can compliment Yabuta as she has done before off the bench.

Josuke Ichikawa Age · 21

Josuke is a phenomenal scorer who is often seen as the main rival to Yabuta. Last World Cup qualifiers his Childhood friend since elementary school Sayo Matsuoka took his spot. However, his impact was missed and rather than replace Matsuoka who played well, Ichikawa replaces Nayasaki, thus putting the two Enrika natives at the wings. Josuke has good ball control and has a dangerous cross that can change the flow of any game suddenly. Penalty kicks are his greatest strength and no one is more calm, cool, and collected as he is.

Joseph Yabuta Age · 22

Despite what this humble young man would say, Yabuta is the undisputed star and goal scorer for the Kirishinan national team. Yabuta loves to score and scores he can whether it be left foot, right foot, head, knee, etc. Yabuta plays to have fun and his speed is borderline unfair. In his four-year career, Yabuta has won three championships (1 with Kairaku, 2 with Akihabara). It is safe to assume that if Kirishima scores in a game that Yabuta was behind it. This means he either scored or at least assisted on a goal. That type of consistency is very valuable. Yabuta joins his best friends Ayame and Claire in this year's national team as he remains a crucial cornerstone to the generation of miracles.

Tactic: "The Supported Ballista" 4-3-3 +2.21
Manager Seong is still using Kyosuke tactic at least until the end of Cup of Harmony. She is a bit more focused on counter attacking with her notable defenders Ayame Fujisaka who has a great mind for the game and the tomboy former university track star Koharu Miyamoto whose speed, passing and footwork enables her to get up the field quickly and in the position to opt a pass to a midfielder. However, in this version, Miyamoto does not join in the attack and after making a pass retreats back down the field. Claire Nguyen had a great season with Akihabara and is on the starting line up with teammates Yabuta and fellow center back Fujisaka. With Izumi and Papadopoulos on the field, they can place the ball in great positioning of any of the Kitsunes capable strikers like Yabuta to drill the ball into the net. Also with Yabuta's almost unnatural ability to score of volley's it will become obvious how Yabuta made the Baptism of Fire 58 squad. Matsuoka and Ichikawa have wonderful chemistry and adds more options for the offense. Seong Mi-Soo hopes that this will put less pressure on Hojo who can only handle so many counterattacks.

Roles
Captain:Fujisaka ,If Subbed out: Papadopoulos/Izumi/Yabuta
Penalty Taker: Ichikawa/Izumi/Fujisaka/Matsuoka/Yabuta
Free Kick Taker: Izumi/Mizoguchi/Papadopoulos
Corner Taker: Izumi/Papadopoulos/ Mizoguchi

San Llera Roster, World Cup 76

Name: San Llera National Team
Nickname: San-Men
Rank: 24th
President: Agusti Llano
Head Coach: Marko Vujvic
Assistant Coaches: Pietro Madonna, Pere Dissa

History of San Llera
San Llera has a long and storied history and has always had a passion for the game (In fact, the native peoples of San Llera claim to have invented soccer, though their claim is rarely recognized or even acknowledged). However, San Llera didn't star playing internationaly until recently. Just prior to that World Cup, San Llera participated in its first international tournament, a tournament for newcomers entitled the Baptism of Fire. The Baptism of Fire started very well for San Llera with a perfect 5-wins-in-5-games group stage, but the 1-seed San Llera was knocked out in the round of 16 by 16-seed Flardania. It was a disappointing end to their run, but it still left San Llera confident that they could do well in World Cup Qualifying. Unfortunately, they were often left at the mercy of more experienced nations, and San Llera disappointed their hopeful fanbase with a mere 11 points in 14 games, not even coming close to qualifying for the World Cup.

In San Llera's second attempt at qualifying for the World Cup, they hoped to do a bit better now that they had some experience, but they disappointed once again. With 14 points, a small improvement, they left qualifying in sixth place and without a ticket to either the World Cup or the Cup of Harmony. However, they did settle for an invite to the Runner Cup, where they found more success against weaker opponents, eventually being outed in the semifinals but finishing third in the tournament, the best finish for a San Lleran team at any sporting event to date. San Llera looked to ride that momentum into their first regional competition, the Copa Rushmori. But they didn't ride momentum. Instead, they lost three games out of three, none of which were particularly close. It was a disappointing tournament, but it was mostly forgotten after a promising World Cup campaign that saw a first invitation to the Cup of Harmony. Although San Llera couldn't advance in the Cup of Harmony, it was another step. San Llera then impressed in their second Copa Rushmori, progressing out of the group stage.

In their fourth try, luck finally struck San Llera. The final match day saw the San-Men shock Apox in Dwile, and earn an automatic berth in the World Cup. In Valladares and San Jose Guayabal, four points were not enough to progress out of the group stage, but the campaign was a success regardless. The next time around, San Llera edged Damukuni to win Group 5, but once again could not make it past the group stage of the World Cup. A quarterfinal Copa Rushmori performance was on par but not beyond expectations. Now, the San-Men look to qualify for a third consecutive World Cup, and perhaps more.

Travel Guide
Should you be traveling to San Llera, here are some tips and information:
-The only airport in San Llera is Llerana International Airport, which is nine hours away from the stadium. Should you be traveling to qualifiers, it is recommended that you fly to one of the airports in the surrounding countries and then take a boat to Port Cremando, a pleasant city that is within walking distance of the stadium.
-In terms of language, San Llerans mostly speak San Lleran, a close relative of Catalan. Catalan- and Spanish-speakers should be able to communicate rather easily, and many San Llerans know English, as linguistics is one of the most popular studies in the nation. In general, people will be very hospitable towards you if you make an attempt to learn their language. If you don't, San Llerans can be very bitter.
-The color red is no longer banned in San Llera, but it is still highly discouraged that you wear it, as it may lead to hostility from San Lleran fans. Any other visiting fans not wearing red will be treated with warmth.
-A common mistake visitors make is calling the people of San Llera "Llerans." Do not do this! A Lleran is a supporter of Llerana SC, and Llarens or Patrians will take great offense.

National Stadium
Camp a L'aigua ("Field on the Water") Capacity - Unknown
Image
You may notice that this stadium has no stands. While San Llera has plenty of modern stadia (with stands) to choose from, the site of soccer for thousands of years is the national stadium. Located in the Cremando Mountains on the giant Lake Aigua, the lack of stands does not prevent fans from coming out to see their team play. Fans will crowd any land they can find. Some passionate fans go out on boats to find space, others tread water for two hours. One infamous match against rivals Telsta resulted in 120,000 people catching a glimpse of the match in whatever way they could. La Rock ("The Rock") is not pictured, but provides a beautiful view and is a symbol of San Lleran independence.

Coaching Staff

Head Coach Image Marko Vujvic - After former head coach Jon Lleranerus sadly fell into a coma and died, his loyal assistant Marko Vujvic became the interim whilst San Llera looked for a replacement. That replacement ended up being Vujvic himself. Vujvic is not from San Llera but Szavoda, which garnered a lot of controversy when he was hired, but the people of San Llera have come to quite like the coach. He is outgoing yet calm and known for his tactical skill, making him the polar opposite of his predecessor.
Assistant Coach Image Pietro Madonna - No relation to singer, Madonna is very good at helping to develop young players. He is the only coach San Llera has who is adept at making players better.
Assistant Coach Image Pere Dissa - A very similar coach to the deceased Lleranerus, Dissa is passionate and very outspoken about his beliefs. Players coached by him tend to be very conditioned.

Roster

Postion First Name Last Name - Age - Club - Description
GK Johann Van Zanten - 22 years old - Image San Llera University of Physiology - Many were surprised at Marko Vujvic's declaration that the starting goalkeeper during the Copa Rushmori would be the 21-year-old Johann Van Zanten, of the San Llera University of Physiology. He experienced moderate success, but a monstrous domestic season was enough to see him retain the #1 spot.
GK Denis Thoda - 27 years old - Image Cenial Liberty - Thoda has been a longtime goalkeeping prospect, and was lukewarm in his opportunities with the senior team. However, he has excelled at Cenial Liberty in the Cenileague, emerging as one of the best young goalkeepers in the nation. He'll serve as a decent backup.
GK Marcel Fons - 33 years old - Image Amici Llano - Marcel Fons, younger brother of longtime starter Chimo, has never found a place in San Llera's starting lineup, and will continue to serve in a backup role even after an excellent season with Amici Llano.
LCB Robert Rivello - 28 years old - Image Newrook City - A former Di Bradini Cup star, Rivello is now thrust into a starting role with the national team. He is a very feisty defender, a bit dirty at times, but in a good way. Opposing strikers should fear him.
CB Gerard Quella - 32 years old - Image Tynset City - Ten years ago, Quella was a shock selection who nobody had heard of. But solid World Cup play has made him an established player known for his clever passing. Now Quella is in his tenth major tournament is as many years, and he has emerged as perhaps San Llera's best center back. He'll offer veteran leadership to the defense.
RCB Antoni Belles - 30 years old - Image Granger Dragonites - Belles is a speedster who loves to overlap with winger and put in crosses but often gets caught in possession. With age progressing, however, he's smartened up, and become a much more sound defender. He struggled at times in the new three man back line during the Copa Rushmori, but delivered fine performances in the knockout stages.
LB Ramondiera - 23 years old - Image - Besmarlaltur Wanderers - Tremendous work rate and blazing speed up and down the flank, but technically he's still very raw. Decent performances in the Copa Rushmori and a thinness in the left back pool earned him a call-up.
CB Zanzibar Tejada - 19 years old - Image Chell SC - The young phenom starred in San Llera's run to the Di Bradini Cup final before earning a starting job with Chell SC. At just 19, Tejada has the intelligence of someone beyond his years, in addition to athleticism and a long, sleek frame.
CB Alexandre De Gonia - 35 years old - Image Llerana SC - "The Soviet Swan" is the dirtiest player on the team, and will slide tackle anyone in sight. However, those who know him will tell you that he's a very kind, gentle, and romantic man. But if you see him on the pitch, you will start to doubt this. He won't see too much of the pitch due to his age, but has still got in limited minutes.
RB Amerigo - 27 years old - Image AS Mantegapa - Another Di Bradini veteran, Amerigo has been a staple on San Llera's bench in recent years. Luckily, promising performances domestically with AS Mantegapa indicate that the adventurous right back will be a fine replacement in case of injury.
CDM Hector Fonda - 33 years old - Image Vaduz Portcullis - "The Sponge" is one of the most popular players on San Llera, and he backs that popularity up with his talent. Fonda is rough, tough, and a beast in the defensive midfield who is feared by attackers and makes the defenders' lives much easier. He has also recently developed very nice chemistry with Bou, his partner in central midfield.
CDM Teodor Alemany - 29 years old - Image Klyde - Partnering Fonda in the defensive midfield is Teodor Alemany. Alemany is a defensive midfielder of the San Lleran mold, being rough and not afraid of anybody. He is currently playing in Cosumar with Klyde.
LW Pelechamchas - 34 years old - Image Chell SC - Chell SC's Pelechamchas is the ultimate ageless player, still perhaps the fastest on the team at the age of 34. Built like an Olympic sprinter, Pelechamchas buzzes up and down the wings, beating opposing defenders and putting in dangerous crosses. His technical ability has improved tenfold in his time with the national team, those aforementioned crosses becoming one of San Llera's most dangerous threats.
CM Enric Bou - 28 years old - Image FC Farleigh-Warburton - Bou has cemented his place as the star of San Lleran soccer after an inspiring performance in last year's World Cup. He is one of the best passers that can be found, from his precision to his immaculate vision of the pitch. He is still baby-faced and lanky, but his technical skill makes up for it.
R/CM Oscar Cardona - 30 years old - Image Patria Poble - The star on San Llera's first Di Bradini Cup, Cardona has all the tools to be a great center-mid, with good vision, silky passing, and flashy dribbling. However, given the depth San Llera has at the center, Cardona was forced to switch to the wing - a not entirely successful experiment. He is now a right center midfielder in the new 3-2-4-1.
RW Adam Gasca - 25 years old - Image Molde FC - Former teenage sensation slowly coming into his own. Like his career, his play seemingly runs in slow motion but is surprisingly effective. Gasca is poised and technically sound, if not incredibly athletic.
CM Franc Sires - 29 years old - Image Hytheford Palace FC - Sires has been out of the national team picture until recently, but he has passing and vision akin to Bou. He moved to Hytheford Palace FC in Acronius over the last offseason after a decent spell at Eikborg Club.
LW Luis Zeliza - 28 years old - Image Amici Llano - It is criminal that Luis Zeliza has had to wait this long for a call-up, having been among the best at his position for so long in the San League. As far as midfielders go, Zeliza is one of the most prolific scorers, often cutting into the wings and shooting, or making runs in behind and receiving well-weighted balls from his strikers. In five seasons of starting, Zeliza has scored 59 times.
ST Carles Mestre - 33 years old - Image Familia Llano - Mestre, at his best, is clearly the starting striker for San Llera and perhaps the best player on the team. However, Mestre at his worst doesn't deserve to be in consideration for the roster. Marko Vujvic will certainly hope he gets the good side of the 5'1" striker this Cup, especially considering that he won't have the support of a strike partner.
ST Jan Capo - 31 years old - Image Chell SC - Jan is talented but has attitude problems. He may have once shot a man outside of a nightclub, which would make sense given his propensity for shooting. To be fair, he does have an excellent left boot, but could pass a but more.
ST Bellemurillo - 28 years old - Image Arsenal de Releinthi - Bellemurillo, currently with Arsenal de Releinthi in Abanhfleft, showed promise during World Cup qualification, and will get a fair share of starts. He is incredibly speedy and smart with his speed (in terms of making clever runs) but not a fantastic finisher.
ST Ismail al-Said - 23 years old - Image SLUP Soccer - The brightest young striker San Llera can offer, al-Said has already eclipsed 50 domestic goals in his young career. While quick and strong, his true strength is finishing, something he can do with whichever foot he desires.

Those without a proper nickname

Veldgouwen

Eliminated from the Baptism of Fire 63 in the Quarterfinals on penalty kicks after five consecutive victories.

Style: -1

Unless noted differently in RP - starts with number 1 to 11

Head Coach

Johan Valkeniers

Of all the decisions of the VNVB (Veldgouwen FA), picking Johan Valkeniers as manager of this novice team certainly was one of the most contested ones. Such does not refer to his slate of honour as a player, which includes a longlist of trophies during the amateur days and playing a major part in the two titles of Westerzandse VV, where Valkeniers had a prolific Indian summer. Rather it is his complete lack of experience in the cockpit of a team which makes him more than a surprise choice. Once he hung up his boots, the 48-year old made himself an even more well-known face as a pundit for major television channels and newspapers, a role in which he seldom forgets to use the vinegar and dares to kick against many shins. With that in mind, it’s strange that the VNVB even considered someone with that amount of enemies. But, credit where credit is due, his tactical capacity is uncontested and his vocal guidance gives a good vibe to a still unaccustomed team.

Assistant Coach

Ronny Allaerts

Those guys that sit in the plush during games decided they needed to counterbalance the boisterous and outspoken Valkeniers and offered a half-time contract to a man who has earned quite some respect in the inner circle for his work with Piershaven Club, even if Allaerts is less known for the public. Those who do might rather recall him as a mediocre defender who plied his trade with perennial elevator clubs such as Zwarte Leeuwen Brust and Rapid Almskerk. However, his current reputation as a valuable assistant is built on his relentless number crunching. Whatever Ronny Allaerts lacks in national authority, he makes up in vision to turn free-kicks and corners into dangerous weapons, as he demonstrated in his time at Club who rein in title after title.

1 – Goalkeeper – 33 years old – Piershaven Club

Steven Vandermarliere

Picking the number one on the teamsheet was a relative no-brainer, considering the vast experience and trophy cabinet from Vandermarliere. Born and raised in the urban core of Piershaven, near the docks, this fan-favourite has been defending the green-and-white colours of The Eternal for over two decades now, breaking his way into the starting line-up already at a young age. As such, he hasn’t missed any season of the professional era and his 539 games for Club are not only a local record but also a national best. In these years, he guided them to ten domestic trophies including last year’s title. Some will call him confident, others arrogant, but it goes with a dominant style in the box and great capacity to get the best out of his defenders. Critics might point to his modest feet and his tendency to tease the opposing fans might backfire – but he’s still the best the nation has to offer even after a shaky Baptism of Fire.

12 – Goalkeeper – 28 years old – Spierendam FC

Hubert Van Boxelaere

Every good goalkeeper is a bit crazy, it is said and there is no one who made such a personal badge of honour of eccentricity across the nation as Van Boxelaere, a tall and powerful goalie who loves making that spectacular dive when you can just catch the ball. Nonetheless, he is correctly considered to be one of the most reliable ones around due to this remarkable capacity to make the most impossible saves. Always outspoken and not afraid to put a manager in his place, he has been seen as a liability in previous clubs but his excellent relationship with gaffer Karsten Hoeksma makes him a cornerstone of Spierendam. Many worry whether he and Vandermarliere will not clash but he seems to have cooled down a little with the years, as evidenced by the lack of press conflicts last season. That’s a good enough thing, right? Valkeniers will have his hands full with him, but so does any opposing striker.

12 – Goalkeeper – 23 years old – Excelsior Plek

Simon Oberink

Grief concerns were raised ahead of the Baptism of Fire for including a junior who could bank on little more than two years between the sticks for a relegation battler. Nonetheless, that dodgy move did certainly pay off. Valkeniers has confidence in the unmistakable talent from Oberink, who is quick to the ground and gives catlike reflexes a new ring. Also importantly, he has the right character to deal with a permanent role as second-string solution, having always been considered a bit too short to make it at Belden Sport before making the step back to Plek and breaking his supposed limits there. One major question remains, if something would happen to Vandermarliere, is he capable of stepping in and saving the day? During the Baptism of Fire, that answer was ‘not yet’ and even after a fairly excellent season, the question remains open. However, his positive attitude makes him a sure pick.

2 – Right Defender – 27 years old – Racing Vlierdrecht

Derk Breydels

Valkeniers never made a secret of his ambition to play with attentive and active wingbacks and such a role fits Derk Breydels like a glove. The right attacker turned defender won’t hesitate to go back and forth near his side line a baker’s dozen times each half and this set of lungs earned him the nickname Roadrunner. Breydels’ natural guts is shown by the transfer he made at twenty, leaving his youth team Vlierdrecht Sport for cross-city rivals Racing but hasn't regretted so as Sport lingers in the second tier these days, whilst Racing has gone on to win two titles with Breydels as an essential element of the line-up. His crosses will hurt many opponents at this level and he allows the team to move up the pitch incredibly fast, but he needs a reliable man by his side to cover for the risks he takes. Breydels was one of those that most caught the eye during his previous appearances.

3 – Central Defender – 31 years old – Union Fiersem

Carlos Deferme

With just a single Liga Beker won, the trophy cupboard of Deferme does not represent the status he has built up across the last decade in Veldgouwen. Initially a journeyman with stints in Pellegem, Corinthians, Racing Grawarden and Plek, his transfer to Union allowed the club to transform from a straggler into a reliable side, being the sole to challenge Piershaven Club lately. Carlos Deferme is a no-nonsense old-school defender who will take no prisoners but is clever enough to avoid abundant yellow cards. His fine heading results in a goal or four yearly, certainly an extra weapon on corner kicks. Off the pitch, he is notorious for being completely devoid of any star attitude, which makes him a bit of a hero for any Fiersem fan. It also allows them to turn a blind eye on his mediocre passing and incapacity to open up the game with a proper cross.

4 – Central Defender – 25 years old – Piershaven Club

Sven Wittouck

Making up for the lack of technical skills for Deferme and Vandermarliere at the core of the team, we may assume that Sven Wittouck will be a regular starter for this formation. Having made his way up the ladder originating from Third Divisionist Go Ahead Pachtem, he has joined Piershaven Club from Vitesse Ravenstad three seasons ago for over six million, still a record figure for a defender. But Club hasn’t regretted the move, two titles and cup final victory later, trophies in which Wittouck played his part with bravado. One can be assured of tight defending and the capacity to deal with Gegenpressure when putting him in the middle of your defence. He still lacks some presence and can be conned in the air, but for what goes a modern defender, Sven Wittouck is the full package with still room for further growth in his already fine skillset.

5 – Left Defender – 28 years old – Spierendam FC

Kieran Maes

The second selected player from the Canaries is considered a sure bet for a starter. After a stint with Belden Sport, he made the switch to Spierendam three seasons ago. An excellent choice, as the 3-4-3 employed by the always optimistic side from the historical capital from the nation might never lift them to the absolute summit of the table but fits someone with the skillset of Maes like a glove. There is speed but what catches the eye is his marvellous positioning and capacity to nip an attack in the bud cleanly without resorting himself to bringing in the chainsaw or kicking the leather over the stands. Reliable on and off the field, Kieran Maes has been chosen in the team of the year six seasons on end now, a testimony to his consistency. Or maybe to our lack of other proper left backs.

13 – Central Defender – 23 years old – Vitesse Ravenstad

Mike Mortelmans

Currently, Mortelmans still plies his trade for one of the smallest clubs in the top tier but the question remains how long that is going to last – Mike Mortelmans might be the hottest prospect on the market. As a youngster, his lack of discipline ensured that he never really broke through at Koninklijke Pellegem but since he left the Royals behind and moved to small-town Ravenstad, Mortelmans has blossomed. Get ready for a good ninety kilograms of raw power that tear up many an opponent and make him excellent when dealing with sturdier strikers. He is faster than you would presume but his technical limitations probably will put him on the bench for the national team. This man is still prone to picking up unnecessary cards but his off-field antics have calmed ever since marrying one of Veldgouwens most notorious models last year. Often called Iron Mike.

14 – Defender – 30 years old – FC Piershaven

Huub Adriaansen

An optimist will say that Adriaansen has enough speed to do his job on the wing, the power to save himself as centre back and the technical baggage to even survive in midfield. Other, more realistic people, will discuss how his lack of positional discipline and heading make him unfit to really shine at either position. His polyvalence probably lured Valkeniers into inviting him over a series of more astute defenders but it is questioned whether Adriaansen can still handle his tasklist once he is put against international opposition. But for midtable FC Piershaven, this former Westerzandse player certainly is a great weapon and someone who will give everything he has till the last whistle. Another source of notoriety is his capacity to be brutally honest in post-match interviews and his ”People would say we were shit tonight. They’re damn right.” quote became a local classic.

19 – Wing Defender – 21 years old – Piershaven Club

Lasse Vandertoren

The newest addition to the national team is the latest diamond from the crown of perennial powerhouse Piershaven Club. Having plied his trade at Corinthians Haven during his youth years, Vandertoren was picked up at 16 by Club and has broken into the team only a season and a bit later. In a side that is used to having the upper hand, he is excellent in balancing his defensive obligations with his attacking opportunities, not seldom finding an unmarked man in the box. However, he lacks the pure speed for a wing defender and can be caught by a very technical opponent, making him an option not to use every time at the national side. Vandertoren is one of the players Valkeniers hopes to prepare for the longer term, seeing in him a future stronghold of the national side. The maturity he displays at Piershaven should give all confidence on what is about to come for him.

6 – Defensive Midfielder – 29 years old – Piershaven Club

Wim Vreysen

One of the seven Piershaven Club players in this selection, Wim Vreysen is respected as the silent architect behind the incredible success of the last years, having won seven domestic trophies across six seasons. With passing rates usually in the top half of ninety procent, Vreysen is the metronome who ensures that people can pick out their moment to find a hole in the opposing backline. The lack of risk in his game might be the main criticism given but those who play with him on a daily basis know the value of this prototype of a professional, in the best sense of the word. A dream for coaches and referees, Vreysen will speak up seldom but when times get rough, he is not afraid to lead the way. For the national side, Vreysen has that same role and this makes him the first name of the starters. Has gained some notoriety amongst the non-sports fans when he became the face of an anti-racism campaign.

8 – Box-to-box Midfielder – 22 years old – Racing Grawarden

Jim Decubber

Despite being a regular squad player at Piershaven Club at only seventeen, he left the stadium of the domestic powerhouse with revolving doors after a financial dispute. Many were surprised that he joined the modest Grawarden but that turned out to be the correct decision. Despite his age, he already has a team revolving around him which goes along in his dynamic, energy-absorbing style. Go hard or go home, something like that, something that gets confirmed by his clubbing records at night. Still, Racing knows that they have to hold on to their little diamond as Decubber singlehandedly might make them champion one day. Always top marks when it comes to ground covered and passing, matched to a more than average tackle and vision, which makes him an interesting teammate: does more than his dirty work and can pop up to score on your pass, but a bit of a hothead when things don’t go his way.

10 – Attacking Midfielder – 26 years old – Eendracht Rankelsven

Gert Stalhof

A special figure with a similar story attached to his name. At only sixteen, Gert Stalhof popped up in the first team of Spierendam FC. It did not take too much time for him to become a fan favourite with his short dribbles, long passes and unseen stamina for a player of his stature. Hiding in an enigma, his silence only pierced by a rare tantrum, made him even more of a figure for the ages. Before being 20, Stalhof had already won two titles with his team but it seemed as if the fame was too much to hold for him. He became less and less seen on the training pitch and started to go down along with his side. Aiming for new glory, he made a surprise transfer to Pellegem but a horror injury kept him off the field for two years. Restarted this season for Rankelsven and immediately his displays of raw talent made him resurface. For Valkeniers, it was enough to make him his number ten but Stalhof still seems fragile, both physically and mentally.

7 – Right Midfielder – 25 years old – Neerskouter Sportief

Boudewijn Snoeks

Exactly reaching one metre and sixty-two centimetres above the grass, Snoeks will seldom make the difference on corner kicks. But he has the meanest dribble in the nation and is the kind of player for whom people come to the stadium. His capacity to go both inside and outside makes him unpredictable for wing defenders and he is excellent in exploiting a moment of hesitation from his direct opponent. His goal average, around seven a year, does not warrant the amount of shots on goals he tends to take, even from a sharp angle. If he would add some more eye to a teammate to his game, Boudewijn Snoeks could be the most difficult to stop weapon Veldgouwen has. A Neerskouter club player, having risen through the youth divisions, but eager for a step higher. Hopes to demonstrate during these qualifications that his mediocre Baptism of Fire was below what he is really capable off.

11 – Left Midfielder – 29 years old – Union Fiersem

Marnix Van Baekel

Van Baekel is not too tall either but otherwise, all comparison stops. The lanky player usually sticks to his wing except on free kicks and corners where he brings his magnificent cross in action from a different position. A left foot that can telepathically guide the ball anywhere in the box, Marnix learned his trade in the lower divisions for Sparta Leusden and VC Lovingem but since Fiersem gave him a chance, things have gone quick. Apart from regularly leading all assisting pass statistics, Van Baekel does not feel too good to neglect his defensive duties, a style which matches Union. A lightweight, he will be of little use when it comes to duelling but he perfected cutting off the space of opponents and stops several counters in their tracks so. Could be a little bit quicker and the dynamic with his back is crucial, but it clicked surprisingly well with Kieran Maes to make him the Man of our Baptism of Fire.

15 – Defensive Defender – 19 years old – Rapid Almskerk

Dan Troch

The youngest one to make the cut and the only one to play in the second tier last season. But his role in the title of Rapid did catch the attention of anyone near Veldgouwer football. Already a starting player for Almskerk as soon as he passed the legal limit of sixteen, Dan is surprisingly strong physically and has the stamina of someone ten years older. Along with that goes a mature head, but his quick rise might even for him be difficult to grasp. Went down with Rapid two years ago but decided to stick with them despite several lucrative offers because then “I’ll have to show that I can guide a team that’s favourite every week”. Yep, that mature. But he does lack experience against the real quality teams and that makes him quite a long shot from Valkeniers. A hands-down future starter but whether his vision suffices for this level already is difficult to define.

16 – Attacking Midfielder – 25 years old – Piershaven Club

Kris Liesmonts

The lack of depth with attacking midfielders in mind, Kris Liesmonts is not really considered to be the star of the champions, Piershaven Club although it is a bit unfair to hold that against him. Often seeming a bit clumsy, Liesmonts has his image against him, something which isn’t helped by his capacity to be the only Club player to make a gaffe every once and a while. But once you look through that, you might see a hard-working attacking midfielder who will dive into space whenever half a metre opens up, who has a more than fine offensive pass and who scores his fair share of the goals. His tattoos with slogans in favour of far-going autonomy for the Oosthoek made him a controversial figure to call up and a dubious goal celebration created quite a row at the BoF. But Valkeniers stands by him and his prowess does get valued, more than by the press, by his fellow players.

20 – Attacking Midfielder – 35 years old – Belden Sport

Guido Becu

Poor Guido Becu had been endowed with the mythical number ten shirt, quite much of an honour for a player who has been consistent yet never spectacular for Racing Vlierdrecht, Piershaven FC and since a season or three Belden Sport. After a difficult Baptism of Fire, he has been demoted to the second string and many wonder whether he’ll often grace the grass. But the raw facts are that Viergouwen is lacking a brilliant number ten who can bring the full package to the pitch, especially since Gert Stalhof remains a liability in terms of health. So it will be Guido Becu, lacking any star factor with his moustache and receding hairline, who will have to carry the team sometimes. Becu prefers to keep the ball near the ground and has a very astute through pass, combined with more than neat running lines. Although his play is more creative than some credit him for, he tends to go down with the team if the opponent dominates physically.

21 – Right Midfielder – 23 years old – Racing Vlierdrecht

Roel Meganck

Valkeniers likes players who have the tactical capacity to appear at several positions and such is certainly the case with Meganck, a clever player who does not shy away from the physical work either. A chest like a home mover and a few scars make him feared amongst opponents but beneath that cover goes a gentle young man who loves jazz music and modern art – quite rare in a dressing room. Roel Meganck can be staged as a box-to-box player, less prone to make it into the box as Decubber, but with a better tackle and pass. That latter part makes him an option on the wing as well, making his way to an assisting pass not with the characteristic dribble, but with sheer power and positioning. Plays the game at full pace and that might lead to errors but he strengthens the team evidently. Many see him as the future captain of the national team due to his natural presence, but that’s still a few steps away.

9 – Striker – 26 years old – Piershaven Club

Piet Masschelin

A pure targetman with a rocket in his right foot, Piet Masschelin brings home the bacon for Piershaven Club. Across the last four seasons, he accumulated a very respectable 89 goals in 154 games, a figure that has gotten him two Golden Boots and the utmost respect from the home crowd. Masschelin is not an uncontested figure, admitting himself that he turns on a switch when going on the pitch: horrible tackles, clashes with fans, fights with opponents and swearing to refs, he has been there. In daily life, he is a fine guy without that short temper who is as hard on his teammates as he is on himself – doing an extra series after training is regular for him. His ambitiousness is not always loved, but it did result in the man who’s at his age already cited to be one of the best strikers every produced in the nation. Should be capable to fight with the strong defences he’s handling at this stage.

17 – Forward – 30 years old – Piershaven Club

Koert Schepers

Of those not wearing a jersey between one and eleven, Schepers is potentially closest to getting a spot at the kick-off some time or another. Rather on the short side himself, he is used to acting around a tall guy at Piershaven Club with Masschelin as big man. His stats are certainly fine: the last eight years he never went below a production of twelve goals per season. If you would have to categorize him, it would be easy to call him a pocket striker but he is more than raw speed and quick feet. His shot is seldom hard but always with a certain elegance and there is a guy with an eye for a teammate in times of need. As beloved and calm as he is on the field, it is hard to believe that he seemed lost for professional football at eighteen when struggling with drug addictions. Nonetheless, adding him as second striker seems to be the ace up the sleeve of Valkeniers when goals need to be made.

18 – Forward – 32 years old – Racing Vlierdrecht

Jaco Poortman

He’s a poacher and that’s ok, he hardly works but he scores all day. Twelve years with Vlierdrecht have given Jaco Poortman a specific cult status with the fans. He is a man that you love to hate and everyone has an opinion on him, in the case of pundits usually a negative one. His style is missing and it is hard to find a beautiful goal with his signature on it but he does deliver. And exactly that production gotten him a spot in the selection surpassing more renowned or talented guys such as Wagemaekers (Fiersem), Kruijsdijk (Hemeldijk) or Van Moer (Spierendam). Starting Poortman in international games might be a bridge too far but if Valkeniers brings him in with ample minutes left and it’s Jacogoal who scores a winner, all critics will be silenced again.

23 – Forward – 25 years old – Racing Grawarden

Hannes Schaepdryver

Another remarkable figure, whose good looks and sponsor deals often make him the centre of the attention, even if he’s not scoring. But admittedly, that is not too often as Schaepdryver is an attacker who understands very well that production is what makes or breaks him. Stronger than you would expect from a player who stands at 1m81, he picks his duels carefully and wins them more often than opponents like. That timing allows him to score a series of goals but he is one who chooses his moments – critics tend to say he’s a bit picky with his chances. However, “it’s someone else’s job to supply them”, Schaepdryver once famously quoted and if he’s offered a proper shot at goal, it usually ends up against the net. Despite being a crucial player for a few years now already, previously at Pellegem and currently at Grawarden, he is still missing a Golden Boot in his price cabinet – a sign he’s good, but not amazing.

Qasden @ WC76 Qualifiers
Image

After a decently successful campaign at the BoF, the Qasden Vans are prepped up and ready for their international debut in the World Cup Qualifiers. After being drawn into the fifth group, the Qads will have a tough armada of nations to tackle to achieve something like Bonesea achieved, but TQ can do practically anything with surprises. Can Qasden qualify for the finals in Electrum and Ceni? Or will Group 5 prove too much for a starter pack. This is the time, so stay tuned for our reports of the WC76 Qualifiers!

Kaboomlandia Phoenix National Association Football Team

Image

One of the most infuriating World Cup teams to play against in recent memory returns for the 76th World Cup. It was another near miss for the Phoenix, but will this be their time to finally qualify for the World Cup proper?

Nickname: Phoenix
Rank: 73rd (10.08 KPB points)
Head Coach: Ryan White
Assistant Coach: Tom Burns
Stadium: King Wulfric II Royal Stadium (75,600)
Formation: 1-8-1
Style Modifier: -5.0

Starters:
GK: #1 Duncan McEachern, Age 24, 6'2", 200 lbs
The only superstar on the team, McEachern plays for one of the world's best youth clubs, International FC of Armeia.

Defense:
#8 Marco Ciliano, Age 27, 5'8", 175 lbs
Ciliano is a solid if unspectacular defender for Galturin FC.
#4 Bill Young, Age 18, 6'6", 214
The big man on the back end can play defense, but will slot into the 1-8-1 quite well with his size2
#3 Darren Cracknell, Age 21, 6'3", 214 lbs
Cracknell is a giant defender for Kolra Royale. He's very difficult to get past.

Midfield:
#72 Casey Harris. Age 24, 5'9", 191 lbs
A newcomer to the team, plays for White in Kolra.
#5 Ben Bradbury, Age 23, 5'10", 193 lbs
Bradbury is a decent offensive midfielder, but in Coach White's stifling defensive system, how will he fit in?
#18 Gillian Lapointe, Age 21, 5'6", 154 lbs
One of only two women with a starting position on this team, and the only one to play in a foreign league (Abanhfleft), Lapointe is quick, but is dwarfed by her teammates.
#2 Jared Kessler, Age 24, 5'8", 182 lbs
Kessler is the second-smallest man on the team, at only 5'8", 182 lbs. He plays well in White's defensive system.

Forwards:
#17 Rene Allard, Age 21, 6'2", 197 lbs
The tall forward is the Phoenix' only good scorer, and so he is the only offensive player in Ryan White's system.
#20 Tanner Libin, Age 25, 6'1", 185 lbs
Tanner Libin is a very defensive forward. Coaches like him because of his staunch defensive skills.
#23 Diana Libin, Age 20, 5'6", 143 lbs
The sister of Tanner, Diana is the smallest player on the team, as well as the youngest. She is also a defensive forward.

Reserves:
GK:
#16 Aaron Ryerson, Age 27, 6'1", 178 lbs
Ryerson had a decent season, but don't expect him to play at all unless McEachern lets in ten goals in a game or gets hurt.

Defense:
#30 Sarah Jenson, Age 25, 5'7", 160 lbs
Jenson is the third woman on the team, and the oldest of the three.

Midfield:
#43 Jim Wright, Age 28, 5'11", 180 lbs
Wright was named to this team for his character and ability to come in and work hard.

Forward:
#19 Carter Johnson, Age 23, 6'1", 200 lbs
Johnson replaces the retired Cody Dillinger.

Playing Style:
This style has worked for four World Cups, and it will continue under head coach Ryan White. Ryan White's system is a 1-8-1 formation that will make opposing coaches want to pull their hair out in frustration. It essentially revolves around putting Rene Allard in front and Marco Ciliano in the back, while stacking up the other eight players around midfield to break up any possible pass attempt. The sheer amount of offside calls this causes by there only being one person back has actually caused more than one red card to be handed out to their opponents just from screaming at the refs for all the offsides.

Stadium:

King Wulfric II Royal Stadium was constructed after the October 2015 rise to power of King Wulfric II. This massive 75,600-seat stadium hosted Phoenix home games during World Cup 75.
