I NationStates Athletics Championships - Emberton, Krytenia
RP THREAD

Welcome, one and all, to the first NS Athletics Championships, to be held in the Krytenian capital city of Emberton.

Emberton is a city renowned as a melting pot of cultures and nations; its common moniker, the "City of Nations", reflects the fact that you'll probably find at least a couple of your countrymen living somewhere in the city. If venturing in the city centre, enjoy the many fine (and/or reasonably priced) restaurants, and expect to find at least half a dozen different curries on the menu. (Seriously, Krytenians will eat curried anything.) Enjoy the nightlife - and make sure you take in at least one vodka bar. Flavoured vodka is to Krytenians as schnapps is to those of an Alpine persuasion; you haven't lived until you've tried at least one "Jaffacake Special" - that's Potazzi Blood Orange Vodka with a chocolate milk chaser, if you're interested.

The centrepiece of the Championships will be the Isserson Olympic Stadium. With a capacity of just under two hundred thousand, the stadium was originally built for Krytenia's (ultimately failed) bid to host World Cup XX. Since then it has been used as a stadium in five World Cups - most recently the final of World Cup LXXV - and was the main stadium for the Games of the Seventh Olympiad.

The national currency is the argental (usually shortened to ₳, though Ag and KAG are also acceptable), which equates roughly to 1.6NS$. The argental is made up of 100 cuprals (cu), with coins ranging from 1cu to ₳2, and notes from ₳5 to ₳500 - though notes of more than fifty argentals are rarely seen in circulation. Most "bricks and mortar" stores will accept credit and debit cards, though if you want to look for a bargain in one of the city's markets - we recommend the bohemian charm of Oxley Market - bring cash and prepare to haggle.

Marijuana for personal use is legal but heavily licensed; you're best off visiting a "hashanera" (smoking house) as lighting up in the street, though not technically illegal, is seen as very poor form. Also be aware that smoking (tobacco, marijuana, or otherwise) is illegal in all restaurants, stadia, and pretty much anywhere that serves food more complex than a packet of crisps.

Rental cars are available at both major airports near the city - Emberton Hessenthaler Airport is to the west of the city, with Emberton Southfield Airport, shockingly, to the south. Remember, we drive on the left, and those weird things where you expect to see traffic lights are called "roundabouts". You'll see a lot of them; try not to go round in circles for hours, we lost a few Vanors that way during the Olympics, and they live for centuries.

Enjoy the Championships, bet responsibly, drink...slightly less responsibly, and do try not to get arrested. The paperwork's a bitch.

Events in italics are medal events.
Please note that each day is split into daytime and evening events; scorination for both will occur at the same time.

ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS PREVIEW - Where are the medal hopes?

* John Allen's hopes high
* Women's Marathon on Day 1
* In Action Today

THE first edition of the NationStates Athletic Championships, held in Emberton, Krytenia, begin in two days' time, and hopes for the Tumbran delegation are high.

The delegation of over 100 athletes will compete in a lot of events over the next nine days to determine whether the fabled promises of athletic gold from our athletes is really possible - before the Olympics happen in four years' time.

The first day of the championships will see the Women's Marathon being contested - a gruelling course of 42.195 km through the streets of Emberton. June Harwood, Amy Ridley and Beverly Palmer will be leading the charge for Tumbra's first medals and full coverage of the affair will be shown on TBC Sports whenever it is.

The main events that the Tumbrans are interested in, of course, is undoubtedly the Men's 100m sprint, where John Allen is up against competitors like Vangaziland's Kettil Holgersson, Ndaku's George Tshimbiale and West Phoenicia's Woody Doe. Expectations are high, not just on Allen but on his self-imposed targets.

"I'd like to go for gold, yeah - but really any medal would do. The entire team's going for gold, and I'm no exception. We all want to do really well," he was quoted as saying in a pre-flight interview.

More Funding?

One complaint about the Tumbran athletic system previously was that the funding for athletes was virtually none. With the announcement that the country would be sending athletes to the championships, however, funding has increased drastically for the National Olympic Committee in the past few months - and is expected to increase substantially in the following years.

"This isn't just a knee-jerk response to the latest developments in the sporting world, but more of the beginning of a long-term plan to start and nurture athletes for the future," Secretary of State for Sport, Jane Robinson, said at the sending off. "We wish the athletes good luck and hope they can bring back gold for Tumbra."

The first major attempt at mainstream sports funding was the National Lottery, which was founded in 1992 as one of the last acts of the Blake government - and it was originally meant to fund sports but ended up funding other government programs. It was nearly repealed in 2006 but was saved after intense lobbying from certain members of the public.

In new developments for the future of the lottery, there are plans to reform the system such that a dedicated percentage of the money goes to the sports funding.

It's Time to Start the Championship: FNSN.fc's Guide To NSAC, Part 1

Emberton, KRY - Only a few more hours until the start of the first day of the Athletics World Championships in Emberton, Krytenia. The capital of this great sporting nation hosts this event which will be anticipated by Ficiscian athletes after they were denied participation by the CSF in the XI Olympics, as we all know. The NSAC is a new event that makes its debut tonight, so we are here to tell you everything you need to know about it. Here comes: The NSAC from A to Z.

A: Andrinus Brebici - I don't think I have to do much to introduce the only Ficiscian who has ever won an Olympic gold medal to you. In New Gelderland, at the X Olympic Games, Brebici's victory came more than surprising to most of us and the image of Brebici kneeling on the track, looking into a very rainy sky and screaming out his joy, is still imprinted in Ficiscian hearts. Now, Andrinus will be reckoned with. Can he add another gold to his collection? The men's javelin final is taking place in the night session of the 29th of September, scheduled at 22:30 Ficiscian time.

B: Bars - Given how Krytenia advertised its flavoured vodka bars, it would be a shame not to talk about them - as our team can confirm. Not only will you taste a drop of heaven, you'll also get a glimpse into hell. And a video of our photographer Marcus and Olympic participant Kristan Tanngrin singing a duet of Where The Wild Roses Grow. Nope, not sharing it.

C: Curry - We'll talk about another thing Krytenia advertised in its media package, and reasonably so. We have basically not lived off anything else so far, and if you go just a few metres away from the stadium you'll find a lovely place where this writing team usually gets lunch, just in case you want to tell us how awesome our writing is. Come on, we know you want it too.

D: Decathlon - Decathletes are dubbed the Kings of Athletics, and we have a reasonable shot at the Kingdom. Four years ago in the Olympics, Perko Sjastrum had gotten injured during the warmup to the second day. But he has sworn revenge, and this time he wants more than a fourth place in javelin throw, where he will also compete. The Decathlon takes part at 1st and 2nd of October, and we will follow Sjastrum, Marcus de Crux and Alexandros Terrios closely.

E: Emberton - If you want proper info about this city, ask the Krytenians. If you wanna know where around the massive stadium you can get the cheapest and best foods, drinks and souvenirs in between sessions, ask us. In the city center, there's all kinds of possibilities to run into Ficiscian and international athletes, as we found out the last few days. One tip we want to share with all of you guys who are coming here: Don't get lost on your way from Emberton Hessenthaler, where most flights from Carinha and Antiqua fly to, to the center. Petrus did and then got stuck in the city traffic, which is why we suggest not to use the flights landing at 16:00 at all. Take the earlier or the later one, and remember that Avia Ficiscia offers a daily extra flight to Emberton during the Championships.

F: Ficiscians - You'll find more of us during the competition, obviously, but there are already quite a few of our countrymen living in Emberton. Shall you end up being homesick, or just wanna enjoy a good old Limites Tea or a Steak cidré, we suggest La Cabane de Lumière or Casa Nordica, two restaurants run by Ficiscian families which serve as a meeting point for the expats from our home country.

G: Getting around - If you read Krytenia's media outlet about Emberton, you may - as we did - be wondering how to get around in the city. To be honest, we walk mainly. But then, we also enjoy city walks, so if you don't, reconsider the walking. Rental cars and taxis both seem pretty affordable to us so far - maybe that will change once we found the time for the markets.

H: High Jump - This traditional Ficiscian stronghold is once again a medal hope of our nation. Ficiscia's biggest candidate is a woman, Tertia Marina, but also the men have their chances to win a medal with Fulvius Iugata and Flavius Sergii. Sergii has got a new national record earlier this season with 2.38, and will try his best to crack the mythical 2.40 in Emberton. The women's finals will take place on the 2nd of October, the men's on the 3rd.

I: Internet - We're talking about ourselves here, of course. FNSN.fc offers the Live Stream in cooperation with Tele Ficiscia, where you can watch the TF live coverage as well as two other streams focusing on certain events, depending on the program. All results get delivered to you in real time through FNSN.fc or the FNSN Scores app.

J: Javelins - We already told you about the men's javelin throw in relation to Andrinus Brebici. What we didn't mention yet was the women around Ivana Erskana. The Isolan wants to get her first international medal in this championship, and she wants it to be gold, of course. But there is not only the competition per se: In an effort to raise money for the improvement of Isolan education, which often covers only the basics and forces children to go to Carinha for higher education, Ivana Erskana will auction her javelins the day after the competition in cooperation with Tele Ficiscia. Other Isolan athletes will join this action in various ways.

K: Krytenia - We cannot speak from experience, but a lot of our countrymen living here told us it is absolutely worth going around this nation a bit. The tourism office of Krytenia can probably give you more information on this, but what we really want to tell you here is that if you want to get around in Krytenia, send us photos through our app or tag them on social media with #FNSNvisitsKrytenia. Not only will you get a spot in our NSAC studio, the best pictures also receive signed goodies from Ficiscian athletes.

L: Long Jump - Another big medal hope for us is the Long Jump. Elena Coratia has voiced her goals of reaching the podium, and she has demonstrated her form with a great jump at the trials, landing only about 20 cm short of the World Record. Coratia, who is only 22 years old, will hopefully compete in the final on the 1st of October.

M: Marathon - The opener of the Games takes place today at 14:00 Ficiscian time. The women's hopes are primarily resting on Olivia Norrehov, a 26 year old Norja whose biggest achievement so far was victory in the trials and in the traditionally difficult Friya Marathon. The men's Marathon will start at the same time on the last day of the competition and feature Numerius Boves as the prime contender.

I Athletics World Championships: What to expect

It's been 6 months the curtain fell on Wray's most successful every athletics meeting at a summer games - in Aeropag, the Green-and-Whites took home a modest, yet quietly impressive, 6 medals, including 4 golds. Leah Marou, Cameron Oliver, Hudson Inala and Andrew Poulsen were Wray's champions, whilst Ben Ryan won a silver in the High Jump, and Gabriella Green took third in the Pole Vault - all six of these athletes return in Wray's delegation, and will be looking for repeat success.

The middle-distance events should prove fruitful again for Wray, as both Marou and Jordan reprise their Olympic roles, and will surely enter as one of the favourites, whilst Jordan is assisted by 25 year old Toby Brewis, whilst Marou sees 22 year old Samantha Sydney join her. Any four of those athletes could lead a charge for the medals in what has emerged as a surprisingly strong pursuit for Wray. In the 800m, Alyssa Kirsova will look to amend a poor Olympic performance with a strong showing in Emberton, whilst Nathan Elliott and Ryder McMorran could challenge for the men. Will Portman will go for the long-distance double in the 5,000m and 10,000m, whilst recently-crowned National Champion Melanie Brady will go for the women in her first international double shot.

There is strong collegiate representation in Wray's delegation, as a crop of exceptionally talented school athletes graduate to international competition: watch out for high jumper Acia De Hamel from Albion U, javelin thrower Cooper Streeton from Greenfield U and hurdler Jonathan Schey. Yet another top class hepatathlete will don the Green-and-White in Emberton, with 23 year old Kaitlyn Murray-Rhodes out of Chesseckton Provincial University the third of three high quality multi-eventers for Wray, along with Bella Shaw and Rachel De Kermandec.

Zash Sturrett exited the Olympics without a single legal jump at the Olympics games - for someone of here talent, it was severely disappointing, so we hope to see a rebound from the 26 year old from North Shore, SET, whilst Eliza Payten will look to make good on her considerable talent, which so far has been found wanting at recent Olympics. S-J Barrett said she was elated with her 5th placed finish at the Olympics, but we know she can go further, and will look to dominate in both the 400m individual event and the relay.

Wray Athletics has set a target of 7 medals, at least 4 golds. Eminently gettable for the Green-and-Whites.

(Apologies for brevity, very short of time)

The Christos Crier

The Online Tabloid reporting the trials and tribulations of the Anniexe Christos athletes. ...

Patrica Pillfer

Greetings online viewers to the first online tabloid reporting all things Anniexe Christos.

The nation had the pleasure of sending a small delegation of athletes to compete in the NS Athletics Championships.

Today we have Browyn Church placing 8th in the women’s Triple Jump. After she realized she had qualified she spent the remainder of the day cleaning out the Athletes commons area complaining that various athletes who shall be unnamed had dragged alot of sand back to the hotel. She spent the next 4 hours sweeping, mopping and buffing the floors. Only to have an athlete walk in leaving cuff marks forcing her to redo it over after chasing the athlete away with a mop.

Brothers Cameron Walker and Brett Walker each competed in to the 400m hurdles. Brett being the oldest was the favorite to win ever since birth he had been the fastest and had cabinets full of medals and trophies. Cameron however outdid himself in the hurdles, placing 5th overall to qualify compared to Brett who placed 39th pushing him out of the competiton and sending him home to momma.

Meanwhile Pole Vaulter Jack Ellington is not only a dynamo on the field but off also. The two time Anniexe Christos champion is participating in his first international event. He loves height so much he has been known to take on Parkor. He proposed to his fiance on top of the Eureka Tower the tallest building in Anniexe Christos.

ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY ONE - Hope and Disappointment

* Women's Marathon RESULTS
* Men's 100m Final
* In Action Today

The first day of the Nationstates Athletic Championships have just ended, with there being much cause for hope and despair amongst the Tumbran contingent.

The day started well, with Tom Maguire being the first athlete to step out onto the track in Tumbran colours, to much applause and cheers from the travelling fans. He then finished second to Steven Kohl of Krytenia, coming in with a time of 1:47.35. After finishing his heat, he mentioned that the race had been "magical" and that the fans were "behind him every step of the game"

Stephen Holt ran fourth in Heat 2, with a timing of 1:46.51, and Peter Freeman finished second in Heat 4 with a timing of 1:47.01, with all three qualifying for the semi-finals, due to be held on day 3.

Chris Hayward finished 9th in the 10,000m semi final, barely scraping through, with Alastair Conner finishing with a much more comfortable berth of 2nd in his semi-final. John Curtin, in the same semi-final, missed out on the next round, finishing fourteenth by 4 seconds. Conner and Hayward will move on to the final, due to be held on day 3 as well.

The 3,000m steeplechase was the first major disappointment for athletes, with all 3 not making it through. Phillip Drury finished eighth in Heat 1, Trevor Coote finished sixth in Heat 2, and Anthony Gold finished last in Heat 3 through no fault of his own - a collision with Pagani Tolbert Emilio of Allinghi put paid to his chances as he limped to the finish line with a sprained ankle.

"It's been disappointing, of course - I think if not for my opponent, I would have finished pretty respectably - but that didn't happen. It's alright, though - there's always next time. I've spoken to Pagani and there are no hard feelings over the event.
- Anthony Gold, after the 3000m steeplechase

Michael Kevin-Wood did Tumbra proud when he finished joint first in the men's pole vault, attaining the automatic qualification of 5.75m on the first try. Richard Freeman had some trouble with the 5.55m vault, but did eventually make it to the 5.75m mark. William Petersen, however, was knocked out at the 5.45m mark - which was a disappointment to him.

"I feel terrible - it's my first time on the international stage and I fluffed it. It's alright though - I'll focus and come back stronger and higher."
- William Petersen, after his elimination

In the women's marathon, our marathoners might not have gained medals, but they did in fact finish very respectably, with Beverley Palmer finishing in 17th, June Harwood in 23rd and Amy Ridley in 34th.

The evening events, which were missed out in yesterday's article, also went quite well for Tumbra. William Barnett finished last in his heat with 10.94s, while Robert Sanderson went through in Heat 2 with a timing of 10.52s. John Allen, the nation's flagbearer, went through in Heat 6, only being beaten by Ela'r Siwink by 0.02s. Allen and Sanderson move through to the semi-finals.

More good news in the 400m hurdles as Joshua Norman finished first overall in his heat and the overall rankings, with a timing of 48.71s. Ben Lawrence also finished first in his heat and fourth overall, with 48.79s, while Stephen Morris finished 6th in his heat with 51.27s.

Mohamed Farah, the North Mesopotamian-born athlete, finished 8th in the hammer qualifying, with both Joe Rigg and Ian Dinnie failing to qualify. The women's triple jump also proved to be disappointing, with only Lana Pedersen progressing.

Kirsty Bingham is currently fourth in the seven-event hepalthon, which is a formidable task for any athlete.

One of the most popular athletes in Vangaziland to participate in the last Olympiad was Shara Carden. She completed the pentathlon, which was a demonstration event. This didn't stop Vangaziland from getting swept away when it looked like Shara might place first. It wasn't until a rough showing in the last event, the javelin throw, that she fell to third place. It was a valiant effort in the spirit of everything the Olympics stood for. Many Vangazi enjoyed watching Carden compete.

On Day one of the NS Athletics Championships, Carden participated in the women's marathon. She looked to push for at least a top 10 finish. On race day, she started with a fast pace. She kept up with much of the pack for the first few miles, coasting and warming up. She found her stride. As time went on, she began to push a little harder. Lianne Davey also ran the marathon for Vangaziland, trailing behind Carden for most of the race.

Carden ended the marathon in 13th place. A Vannish journalist interviewed her soon after she caught her breath and drank a little water. The main question asked was, "How do you feel about your finish?"

Carden was honest, "It wasn't good enough. But I gave it all I could. I started cramping near the end, so I guess it could have been worse. It was a fight." Davey finished 20th.

Meanwhile, other Vangazi were looking to make a name for themselves. Pete Winters won his heat in the 400m Hurdles. He kept pace with the group for much of the race but really began to push down the last quarter of the race. It was a battle between him, Andrew Poulsen and May Arthur Sa'd.

"I really prepared for the event", Winters said afterwards. "I think I timed that well. I saved up for that last big push."

However, by Day 2, Winters was eliminated by .02 of a second. His win was already a fading memory. Stephen Pennyfeather was now the Vangazi who was advancing, with a 6th place total finish.

Emelie Ragnvaldsson made headlines in Vangaziland by winning her heat in the 100m dash. Her time of 11.27 was the second fastest of all women.

"I just have to bring the intensity next race. We've seen others get eliminated after a good first heat. The next race will be tougher. So I have to push harder", Emelia told the reporter.

Carina Olander also won her heat in the 100m race. Her time was slower at 11.39.

"I think I have just as much of a chance to advance as Emelie", Carina said. "She got such a good jump off the start. That's where she excels."

The NS Athletics Championships were being covered by a Vannish cable sports network. It was actually pulling decent ratings. Vannish track coaches would be happy, knowing good ratings could help them make a push for increased funding. Vangaziland entered quite a small delegation to the last edition of the Olympiad. Despite that, the Empire pulled 3 gold medals. Many involved with the sport hope participation in the NS Athletics Championships will be the first step towards a more diverse track program.

The Christos Crier

The Online Tabloid reporting the trials and tribulations of the Anniexe Christos athletes. ...

Patrica Pillfer

Greetings online viewers to the first online tabloid reporting all things Anniexe Christos.

"We start with a warm fuzzy story. Penne Gilligan who won placed 2nd in her heat for the Women's 1500m is not just known for good sportsmanship on the track but off the track also. After her heat she went back to her room where she baked chocolate chip cookies for all the players in her heat. She is also known for her kindness, whenever someone knocking on her door. One can hear Penne comment "Oh what can i do for ya. Hop in."

Gary Warden has caused a storm back home. Gary won bronze in the mens 20km walk. After the event, he kissed his male partner setting off the largely religious right in the country who disliked their first medal achieving athlete due to his sexual orientation. A small percentage of Annixe Christonians have rallied behind the touching movement.

In yet more scandal for the nation Margie Himmler has raised a few eyebrows in sporting circles. Margie places 3rd in her heats for the 100m and has high hopes of winning a medal for her country. Margie originally didn't make the cut for the NS Athletic Championships. Thuy Christian was originally placed to attend the prestigious event after winning the nationals back home, however 1 week before the athletes headed off to compete she had suffered a suspicious injury resulting in her not been able to run. While the culprit has not been found many wonder if Margie Himmler had arranged the accident. As she has a history of suspicious incidents involving team mates placed higher than her in qualifiers and championships.

ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY TWO - MEDAL HAUL

* 100M FINAL GOLD
* SHOT PUT SILVER
* HEPALTHON BRONZE
* In Action Today

The second day of the Nationstates Olympics Championships, held in Emberton, Krytenia have ended with an excellent day for Tumbran athletes. The day started with the 20km walk, with Charles Collins finishing thirteenth with a timing of 1 hour and 22 minutes, with the winner, Tadala Forest of Ndaku, who finished with 1 hour and 19 minutes. Anthony Rowe finished fifteenth, while Samuel White-Ridgewood finished nineteenth.

The shot put qualifying saw John May finish top with a throw of 20.93m, while Harold Sheppard qualified in ninth. Angus McHardy, "The Man From the Highlands" as his fans call him, failed to make it to the final after he failed his last two throws, leaving him figuring in sixteenth.

In the 400m steeplechase, Nicola Gold finished third in Heat 2 and Diane Harris finished third in Heat 5 to make it through to the next round, while Elaine Ferguson missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals after finishing seventh in Heat 3.

In the evening events, John Allen finished first in his semi-final with a sub-10 second time, while Robert Sanderson finished fifth in the second semi-final and failed to qualify for the final. Despite finishing fifth in the overall semi-final rankings, Allen won the gold medal in the final, which comes as Tumbra's first ever gold medal in any sporting event. In the after-event press conference, John was ectastic at getting Tumbra's first medal.

"It's fantastic to get the country's first medal, and I'd like to dedicate this to all those who supported me throughout this competition. The atmosphere and stress was really fantastic, yeah, especially after I finished first in my heat. My opponents were strong and they were a good bunch - I'd love to compete against them again."
- John Allen, 100m Champion

Joshua Norman and Ben Lawrence failed to make it through to the finals of the 400m hurdles, with Norman being taken sick after the race - a team coach was reported as saying he wasn't "up to scratch" and "really shouldn't have competed".

Harold Sheppard then won a silver medal in the shot put, with a 21.47m throw, adding to Tumbra's medal haul. TBC Sports was not able to reach him for comment.

In the women's 100m heats, Janice Anderson and Elisabeth Slade made it through to the semi finals, finishing third in Heat 4 and second in Heat 5 respectively. Rachel Gorman finished fifth in Heat 6 and was eliminated.

The women's 1500m was a major disappointment with Natalie Beard, Andrea Anderson and Kate Williams failing to make it through to the next round.

In the final event of the day, Kirsty Bingham won third and the third medal for Tumbra after finishing with 6759 points in the heptathlon, just two ahead of Cumhact's Brenda Corkery. Finishing sixteenth in the 110m hurdles, eighth in the high jump, first in the shot put, eighth in the 200m, seventeenth in the long jump, third in the javelin and eleventh in the 800m was enough to gain Tumbra's third medal of the competition.

Tumbra now lies in joint first along with Asteran, with both nations having one gold, one silver and one bronze medal each.

"On now to athletics, and the Blue Lions continue their hot start to the I Athletics Championship with two medals on the second day of competition. After the golden start by Triin Nabi, Kaija Kalaniemi bagged a silver in the women's heptathlon, finishing just 35 points behind gold medallist Joanne Carfax. Ashley Zane finished 5th for Asteran, 28 points back of bronze medallist Kirsty Bingham. Kalaniemi led heading into the 800 meters, but a 13th place finish in the race left her with a silver. Our Ray Spikes talked with Kalaniemi after the medal ceremony."

"Kaija, how does winning silver in this competition feel?"
"It is amazing, to be sure. I tried to push myself in the 800 to keep gold, but it just wasn't my day today. Full credit to Joanne for pulling out the win; she pushed me all the way through the competition. It's a wonderful feeling to bring home this medal for Asteran and for my family."

"Joining Kalaniemi in the medal table was Asteran's fastest man, Ty Harden, who claimed bronze in the men's 100 meters contest. A photo finish gave Harden the bronze, with Pádraic Breathnach claiming silver by a matter of centimeters at the line. John Allen claimed gold, blowing away the competition with a 9.77 in the final. Ray Spikes spoke with Harden earlier."

"Ty, it was a tight race from 2nd to 8th. Were you expecting a difficult race?"
"Of course I was. These guys are some of the best sprinters in the world, and we knew coming in that it wouldn't be easy coming into the final."

"Just 3 hundredths of a second separated you and Breathnach from the rest of the field. What was your feeling when you medalled?"
"It was an amazing feeling. To get a medal at this level is an accomplishment, and doing it in such a tough race is a great feeling."

"And we'll have a full recap of all the day's events here on ABC Sports One tonight at 8PM tonight, with day four coverage starting tomorrow at 9AM live on ABC Sports One."

The Paradisiam Champions Lodge has a brief Q&A today live! With silver medalist Juliane Yolk of the Women's Marathon present to answer questions.

"We are proud to have such talented athletes present at the NSAC", says one coach as he points to pictures of athlete's images, that the projector is creating on the board behind him, "And we are aware that some ofbour training methods are not good enough" a picture of January Fellbottom appears with tears in her eyes. "No more donuts will brought to the meet-ups because apparently some people can't even get their arses off the ground and into the sand!" screams the coach at the camera while January can be heard weeping in the background. "She says she was distracted by an apparition that she saw in the stands that was pointing at her aggressively, but we all know the sporting gods are on our side so this couldn't be true as we had made the proper sacrifices and burned a lock of everyone's hair just before the start of each days rounds. The phantom was surely giving a thumbs up and enhanced her abilities but she failed to properly use them. She wipl be forced to wear a mask for the rest of the games so her bad luck doesn't reflect on other athletes." Insists the coach with a serious and stern face. "The last thing we want is for other nations to view us as stupid or unprepared, so we have decided to leave straw figures of animals outside everyones room as a signifier that their athletes will share in our blessings."

Juliane Yolk takes the mic tinkering with her silver medal. "I am proud to have done my country and family right, Im sure my two husbands are weeping together right now over the prominent achievement I have made." She stands up and blows a kiss to the camera " I love you Jebidiah and Dillion!" Don't start the party till I get home you naughty boys" she lectures as she smacks the tip of her finger with another finger.

Calmly an official thanks the press for being present and wraps uo the meeting with a funny cat-video.

West Phoenician Athlete Restores Honour. ....

Steeplechase athlete Steve Del Lorenza had alot on line at the NS Athletics Championships. He had bombed badly at the Aeropag Summer Olympic Games, placing last in his heats stopping him from qualifying. His honour and reputation had been damaged when he had returned to West Phoenicia.

The West Phoenician Sporting Association was reluctant to send the hopeful to Krytenia only to fail again.

Steve Del Lorenza has proved the Association wrong. Not only did he qualify in his heat along with fellow West Phoenician Daniel Mac but on Day 3 he won Gold for his country. As he stood on the podium to accept the gold medal he burst into tears.

A towering man lumbers over his dinner table drunk with foreign booze and asks the first question " So these uh... athletes of yours, are they pretty good or what!" he says while stumbling over his words "because that Katharina Thesocles is a whistler Ill tell you what" upon hearing this Katharina's first reaction was a blush followed by nervous coughing as a dead silence fell over the room while the man eye-balled her from a distance. She scoots her chair closer to the PCL officials and replys "Well if noone is going to brake this awkward silence Ill step up to the plate just like I did in those hurdles." she says with fresh enthusiasm "to answer any questions regarding my position as to whether or not the incorrect labeling of my number one spot on the rankings was accidental or had motif Ill say this. You can't stop me from winning no matter what the scores say. If by the end of this I don't have gold ill still consider myself a winner, everyone is a winner!" she finally finishes as shes sits back down.

Official spokesperson of the Paradisiam Champions Lodge Helios Jordan says this to the cameras "I think we can all agree her time and performance is up there and definitively deserving of a future olympian." he says as he winks at Katherina. "But the delegation running this whole show are obviously intimidated by the athleticism of PCL athletes and purposefully made incorrect statements about the true #1 ranked hurdler in an attempt to undermine our natural athletic prowess as a nation. Surely an apology should be made by their events managers and result technicians." Mr. Jordan sits down stubbornly with his arms crossed

"How does the PCL feel about not putting in more chances to earn gold by limiting itself with the amount of athletes it has brought?" asks a reporter who looks suspiciously like sports-journalist Ink Wright with a phoney mustache.

Coach of the athletics team jumps up startling Katharina "We had hoped the lack of attendance would put our athletes in higher demand for future games, because after this showing Paradisiam's athletes will be the talk of the sports populace everywhere!!".

Greg Olafius creeps into the viewing room dressed in all black, making his way to the front of the room where he throws off his trenchcoat to reveal a bronze medal encased in glass around his neck. Seconds pass and a few people clap non-chalantly. "As for your next question let me ask you something Mr. Wright!" he yells as he rips Ink's false mustache from his face "AHAH! You snake in the grass!" Ink immediately starts to stutter as he clammers to his feet "You know that gold would have been yours if you would have let me massage your feet before the round started!" replies Ink Wright as begins to throw papers at Greg. "That was supposed to be an interview about my hopes and dreams not a recording of an athlete getting a personal massage!" yells back bronze medalist for the hammer throw Greg Olafius before chasing Ink out of the room.

Helios Jordan settles down the room by smashing a large watermelon with a sledgehammer that seemed to have appeared from nowhere. "Please continue with the questions". A reporter wiping juice off his camera asks "Why is it that Greg only got bronze?"

Mr. Jordan responds with a sincere voice "The opposition is fiercebin their training and in response we will become fierce to, all athletes will be given personal trainers and herbal enhancers to prepare themselves for tomorrows games. Despite common belief that the foot rubbing incident had to do with his minor success we still must train harder, afterall those hammers are heavybhave you tried to throw one of these things?" Jordan says as he throws his sledgehammer on the floor damaging the wooden boards.

The conclusion of the meeting was brought when Ink began chasing Greg with an electric shaver in the middle of the crowd.

Witchcraft made me lose!

Annixe Christonian sprinter Margie Himmler has spoken out against Online Tabloidlist Patricia Pilfer.

Margie qualified for the 100m sprint final where was destined to place. Her dreams were shattered when she came last.

Margie has accused Patricia of witchcraft. "Not only has this wicked woman spreading lies about me in her supermarket rag sheet but Margie now claims Patricia is a black witch who placed a curse on her resulting in Marige coming last in the finals.

"I have spoken to my lawyers back home and they will be filing a statement with the police to bring Patrica Pillfer up on charges of witchcraft. If convicted Patricia could face 20 years in prison if she confesses or a possible death sentence if she is found guilty and refuses to confess.

ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY THREE - RECORDS TUMBLE

* WORLD RECORDS TUMBLE
* WOMEN'S 100M SILVER
* TRIPLE JUMP GOLD
* In Action Today

The third day of the Nationstates Athletics Championships, held in Emberton, Krytenia, brought with it a slew of medals for the Tumbran team, with the progress being marked as remarkable by head coach, Marcus Rigby.

The day started with the 400m heats, with Colin Gregory the only one to make it through to the semi-finals, with a third placed finish in Heat 2. Tom Maguire and Henry Forrest were knocked out.

The news of the day was in the pole vault final, where Tumbra's very own Michael Kevin-Wood smashed the existing world record of 6.15m by going one further in the Final, with a height of 6.20m. The silver medallist, Gregory Saldana of Audioslavia, had already been knocked out after the 6.05m, guaranteeing Kevin-Wood the gold medal, but he wanted to keep going.

"...so I saw that he [Saldana] had failed to make the next round, and that I was champion. "Ok" I said to the coach. "Let's try to go further." I passed 6.15m on the first attempt, which basically equalled the world record, but I wanted to keep going and made the 6.20 on my third attempt on it. It was nerve-wracking - I'd failed twice already but I just followed my usual technique, and when I landed on the mattress again, everybody was running to me. It was surreal...and it still is. I'm a world record holder!"
- Michael Kevin-Wood, World Record holder in the Pole Vault

The world record gives Tumbra a place in the history books very quickly after it made its track and field debut.

The javelin athletes - the trio of Eric Spalding, Arthur Moors and Leonard Stevens - nearly failed to make it to the competition location on time for the 10.15am start, but theu made it anyway. They qualified later than the other athletes, and Spalding made it through while Moors and Stevens made it agonisingly close to going through, but failed.

The trio of Michelle and Joy Brooks, as well as Carol Haswell, failed to make it through to the final of the women's discus. The two sisters were shattered by the result, according to unsubstantiated rumours coming from someone close to them.

In the women's 400m heats, Rebecca Culley and Barbara Riggin both finished top of their respective heats to advance to the semi-finals, while Frances Harris failed to make it through despite having a time quicker than the final qualifier.

In the evening events, Peter Freeman became the only athlete left to compete in the 800m final, after both Stephen Holt and Tom Maguire were knocked out. Freeman won his semi-final, while Holt came sixth in his and Maguire finished fourth.

On other events taking place on the field, Alastair Conner finished thirteenth and Christopher Hayward finished eighteenth in the 10,000m final, while Mohammed Farah finished seventh in the hammer final.

In the women's 100m semi-final, Janice Anderson made it through to the final, where she won the silver medal, beating Belinda Taylor of Krytenia and yet losing to Mathilde Santiago of Ndaku by just 0.06 of a second. Falling back to third at first, she recovered to finish second.

"It was really stressful at first - I had a bad start and then I fell back to fifth, but then I picked up the pace and finished second behind Mathilde. It was really great and I'm really happy to win a silver medal."
- Janice Anderson, 100m silver medalist

In the women's 400m hurdles, Diane Harris successfully made it through as one of the two best losers, while Nicola Gold was eliminated after finishing joint eighth.

Before the day ended, however, there was one last piece of joy for the Tumbran delegation, as Lana Pedersen won the women's triple jump gold with a 15.42m jump, beating Ndaku's Gisselle Gagnier by just 0.04 cm.

"I really don't know how I did it. It was really surprising, given that I'd failed three jumps out of seven and Gisselle had done all seven well. But at the end of the day, the best result counts, and that's what I got. I'd like to offer my best wishes to Gisselle, and hope that I'll be able to compete against her next time again. "
- Lana Pedersen, Triple Jump Gold Medallist

Tumbra now stands atop the medal table with three golds, two silvers and one bronze.

Results for Day Three!

Postby Grapantar » Wed Sep 28, 2016 6:56 am

Grapantar Broadcast
Greetings one and all! As always, I am Veneda Gavgari, and I'll be recapping day three at the Athletics Events hosted by Krytenia! So far, we've gone through without medals and our performance has been, at the most, mediocre. Despite this rather dissapointing thought, our team has fiven their home pride and happiness!

Let's begin reading the results:

Beal Molade has just scraped through and qualified for the Men's 400m at a time of 45.49 in his heat. He was reported saying that he was glad he made it through, but needs to put in more effort to try and compete with the other athletes.

Luga Madre has done extremely well and qualified in position number two for javelin! He was behind Peter Hausner of Schutzenphalia. We interviewed him after his event. He was as humble as can be.

"I am just extremely happy to be representing my homeland. I am even happier to have qualified as well. I'm looking to get a medal for Grapantar, so I'll be trying hard. That won't be hard though. The fans have been absolutely amazing, and I'm just so glad tohave their support. They're with me every step of the way."

The full interview can be found at http://www.GrapantarBroadcast.com, in the Krytenian Athletics sections.

However, Sade Madule has unfortunately qualified for the Women's 400m. Despite this, she has done decent in 100m, along with Nara Pigati. Both qualified yesterday, but both, unfortunately, failed to qualify for the finals.

Can Grapantar maje it to the podium? Tune in tomorrow night for the results of the next few events! Good Night, and thank you!

Day three proved to be an eventful day for the Vannish Athletics Delegation. A few runners advanced, many were eliminated. It was an exciting day of competition, full of emotion.

Kristian Holmström ran in the men's 400m. He got off to a good start, finding himself in the middle of the pack. As the race reached the last 70 meters, three runners began pushing for the lead. Holmström found himself alongside Mike Klug and Stan Peole. It was a close finish, but Kristian won the race by .12 of a second.

"It feels good to win another race for Vangaziland", Holmström said. "But the next race is going to be the tough one." His time of 45.12 ranked him 6th overall.

Kelly Wall represented Vangaziland in the women's 400m. She really took off, out the gate, taking an early lead. She was ahead only for a moment, because as the last few dozen meters approached, she began to fall back. You could see she was pushing herself as hard as she could. By the time the pack reached the line, she had fallen back to 2nd place.

Her time of 51.63 placed her 9th in the rankings. She looked disappointed at her finish, knowing a better pace might have saved her more energy for the end.

"The most important thing is, I advanced", Wall said. "I wanted to win at least one race out here. Hopefully I can do better next run."

Anne Johnssen also ran the 400m for the Vannish women. She put forth a valiant effort, finishing third. Her time of 51.51 was fast enough to rank 5th.

"It was a tough heat", Johnssen said. "I'm happy with my time. Now I need to beat it next race."

There was an awesome display of teamwork in the men's 10,000m race. Danr Engstrom and Uriel Ongwuma ran side by side for much of the race. Engstrom was setting the pace for Ongwuma, trying to help him push himself. Towards the end, Danr pulled away and built a 9 second lead. Ongwuma just couldn't keep up.

Neither racer would be pleased with their time. The two finished 8th and 9th.

In the 100m semi finals, both Carina Olander and Emelie Ragnvaldsson were eliminated.

"I was just glad to run for my country", Ragnvaldsson said in her interview. "I still hope this event will be the stepping stone towards a large Vannish athletics program.

Daniela Escobar participated in the women's 400m hurdles. This was the young lady's first international race and you could see the nervousness in her eyes. She didn't run a clean race, knocking over several hurdles. She ranked 21st overall.

Vangaziland's athletics program is still in it's infancy. With funding being the way it was, these runners were lucky to compete on this international stage. For many, it gave them the validation they missed along with the latest Olympics.
