Ladies, gentlemen, and other sentient beings from Rushmore and the rest of the multiverse, the Confederación Rushmori de Fútbol (CRF) and the Federación Oscureña de Fútbol (FOF) would like to welcome you all to the twenty-fifth edition of Rushmore's premier football tournament, the Copa Rushmori, featuring twenty-four nations from all over the region who will be battling it out for regional supremacy in this Terranean country.

The competition's 24 entrants will be split into 6 groups of 4, with each team playing the others in its group once. The top 2 teams in each group plus the 4 best third-placed teams will advance to the round of 16, where we will begin the competition's knockout rounds. Welcome to Río Oscuro!
A brief guide courtesy of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Río Oscuro

Overview

The Republic of Río Oscuro (República de Río Oscuro in Spanish) is a unitary republic located in the continent of Terranea in eastern Rushmore, and home to 20 million people. Named by the dark waters of the Florián river, which flows through the nation from north to south and splits it into two halves, and nested in the Ituyán mountain range, the country borders Eura to the east, Electrum to the south, Rhodesiah to the west, and Austroslovakia to the north and west, and is best known as an important transit point between Eura, Electrum, Valladares' exclave of Junín on the Endemien Ocean, and the Valladar mainland itself.

The land that is known as Río Oscuro nowadays was initially settled by different aboriginal groups, most of whom were subjugated by foreign colonisers during the eighteenth century. The Florián valley was then subject to colonization by Hispanic settlers from the current Valladar state of Antioquia, who migrated to the east hoping to open up trade routes for the Spanish colonies of eastern Rushmore, founding the cities of Estambul in 1745, Floriana in 1747, Zabaletas in 1748, and finally Junín four years later on the shores of the Endemien Ocean. These foundations paved the way for the Florián highlands and valley to become a Spanish colony under the name of Floriana, which thrived thanks to mining and the constant trade between Junín and the colonies to the other side of the Ituyán mountains. The status quo would eventually change with the Second Valladar Uprising and the subsequent Valladar Civil War, which propelled most of the Spanish colonies to declare their independence. In 1873 Junín and Floriana declared independence, with the latter being renamed to the Free Land of Río Oscuro, later the Republic of Río Oscuro.

Río Oscuro's development after independence was slow, with a mostly rural society and a rugged topography that did not allow the development of appropriate roads between cities and towns. However, the economic boom came with the construction of the Metropolis-Junín railway by the Compañía Ferroviaria de Valladares (Valladar Railway Company), later renamed to Ferrocarriles Nacionales de Valladares, following the old royal road followed by the settlers who headed to the east back in 1730. With this, a railway connection was established between Metropolis, Floriana, and Junín. At the same time, an offer to join the Valladar federation was extended to Río Oscuro and Junín in 1936, which only the latter accepted. Even though Río Oscuro refused to join Valladares, the country entered the Valladar sphere of influence thanks to the big amounts of investment by Valladar companies in the country.

Now, Río Oscuro is making an attempt to get out of that isolationist bubble where it has stayed and the Oscureños believe that sport and culture are the fastest ways to foster integration with their other neighbours and the rest of Rushmore, which was their main motivation to host the Copa Rushmori. Despite their long closure to the rest of the multiverse, Oscureños are warm, outgoing, and joyful people willing to receive their foreign visitors with a smile.

Geography and government

Río Oscuro in Rushmore

Map of Río Oscuro

Río Oscuro, owing to its location on the Ituyán mountain range (known in Eura as "Askoy"), has a range of altitudes between 1,500 and 5,350 metres above sea level, going from the eastern Florián valley to the western highlands. The country is home to some of the highest peaks in eastern Rushmore, with mountainous zones dominating the landscape in the northern and western zones of the country, bordering Austroslovakia and Eura. The Cocuy Massif (Macizo del Cocuy), located close to the tripartite point between Río Oscuro, Eura, and Austroslovakia houses the Nevado del Cocuy, which at 5,350 metres above sea level is the country's highest peak, as well as others such as Monte Nevado (4,940 masl) and Pico Plateado (4,785 masl), which are popular tourist attractions. The Florián river has its source at the Massif and flows to the southeast towards Electrum and the Endemien Ocean through the cities of Estambul, Floriana, and Zabaletas. Floriana Dam, the country's main source of power is located on the Florián, and its reservoir created an oasis for watersport lovers, becoming another of Río Oscuro's main tourist attractions.

The population is mainly concentrated around the Florián river and the plateau to the southeast in the border with Electrum, with three of the five most populated cities in the country being located in those zones: Floriana (the capital city), Estambul, Cumbal, and Zabaletas. However, the northern mountains house Armero, Rio Oscuro's second city, while Rio Oscuro's third most populated city, Siloé, is located in the mountainous zone near the border with Eura. Most of Río Oscuro's agricultural production is also concentrated on the Florián valley and plateau.

As for the government, Río Oscuro is a centralist presidential republic, with the executive, legislative, and judicial powers based in the city of Floriana. The President of Río Oscuro (currently Mrs. Nathaly Ossa) is both the Head of State and Head of Government, and is elected for a four-year term, while the Parliament (Congreso) is unicameral, and has 120 members elected, one per constituency or condado. Río Oscuro is divided into 5 provinces and 120 condados, with each condado having its seat in a city or town.

Transport and travel advice

To most international travellers, Río Oscuro can be accessed by air through Floriana International Airport, although if you come from any neighboring country such as Valladares, Eura, or Electrum you can easily come by land, either by bus or train, though the latter option is most advised. Travel within Río Oscuro is mostly done by car, bus or train, with the latter being the fastest transportation mode and the one that has molded best to the rugged topography of the Nación Oscureña. It is usually not advised to travel by air within the nation, especially to the northern cities of Armero, Cisneros, and Tresquebradas, because of the common occurrence of crosswinds and the fact that most Oscureño airports don't meet adequate standards of safety.

Oscureños are very passionate about football, with every condado having at least one club representing it in the semi-professional four-tiered Liga Nacional, which portrays many rowdy and unruly fanbases. Because of this, brawls between different groups of fans are very frequent and football games are heavily policed. Games involving the Río Oscuro national team are not the exception to this, and will be precisely the ones with the biggest police presence in the Copa.

Starting Lineup, Formation, and Tactics:

Image

Valladares' usual formation is a 3-2-2-3 (or 3-4-3 for general reference), which can turn into either a very aggressive yet non-conventional 3-2-5 for attacking or a 5-4-1 (a 3-6-1, even) when the team feel the need to enter into a defensive mode. La Nacional will always be looking to attack and retain ball possession for as long as possible, trying to score many goals in the shortest possible time and mounting an insurmountable lead for the second half of the match when players from both teams start showing signs of fatigue. This squad mostly relies on the speed of both Abel Brücke and Juan Pablo Reyes on the wings both in attack and in defense modes, with defensive midfielders Jonathan Bosetti and Pedro Pedretti being able to retreat to the defensive line with ease whenever the team lose ball possession in order to form a line of 5 defenders, thus giving rival forwards a very hard time when trying to break through the Valladar defense. The 3 forwards are also very speedy and talented but most of all, dangerous: they can turn seemingly harmless crosses into goals, create chances and score goals out of nothing, and kill defenses with speed and lethal counterattacks.

History of San Llera
San Llera has a long and storied history and has always had a passion for the game (In fact, the native peoples of San Llera claim to have invented soccer, though their claim is rarely recognized or even acknowledged). However, San Llera didn't star playing internationaly until recently. Just prior to that World Cup, San Llera participated in its first international tournament, a tournament for newcomers entitled the Baptism of Fire. The Baptism of Fire started very well for San Llera with a perfect 5-wins-in-5-games group stage, but the 1-seed San Llera was knocked out in the round of 16 by 16-seed Flardania. It was a disappointing end to their run, but it still left San Llera confident that they could do well in World Cup Qualifying. Unfortunately, they were often left at the mercy of more experienced nations, and San Llera disappointed their hopeful fanbase with a mere 11 points in 14 games, not even coming close to qualifying for the World Cup.

In San Llera's second attempt at qualifying for the World Cup, they hoped to do a bit better now that they had some experience, but they disappointed once again. With 14 points, a small improvement, they left qualifying in sixth place and without a ticket to either the World Cup or the Cup of Harmony. However, they did settle for an invite to the Runner Cup, where they found more success against weaker opponents, eventually being outed in the semifinals but finishing third in the tournament, the best finish for a San Lleran team at any sporting event to date. San Llera looked to ride that momentum into their first regional competition, the Copa Rushmori. But they didn't ride momentum. Instead, they lost three games out of three, none of which were particularly close. It was a disappointing tournament, but it was mostly forgotten after a promising World Cup campaign that saw a first invitation to the Cup of Harmony. Although San Llera couldn't advance in the Cup of Harmony, it was another step. San Llera then impressed in their second Copa Rushmori, progressing out of the group stage.

In their fourth try, luck finally struck San Llera. The final match day saw the San-Men shock Apox in Dwile, and earn an automatic berth in the World Cup. In Valladares and San Jose Guayabal, four points were not enough to progress out of the group stage, but the campaign was a success regardless. The next time around, San Llera edged Damukuni to win Group 5, but once again could not make it past the group stage of the World Cup. Now, San Llera will attempt to build on their success in regional competition.

Coaching Staff

Head Coach Image Marko Vujvic - After former head coach Jon Lleranerus sadly fell into a coma and died, his loyal assistant Marko Vujvic became the interim whilst San Llera looked for a replacement. That replacement ended up being Vujvic himself. Vujvic is not from San Llera but Szavoda, which garnered a lot of controversy when he was hired, but the people of San Llera have come to quite like the coach. He is outgoing yet calm and known for his tactical skill, making him the polar opposite of his predecessor.
Assistant Coach Image Pietro Madonna - No relation to singer, Madonna is very good at helping to develop young players. He is the only coach San Llera has who is adept at making players better.
Assistant Coach Image Pere Dissa - A very similar coach to the deceased Lleranerus, Dissa is passionate and very outspoken about his beliefs. Players coached by him tend to be very conditioned.

Roster

Postion First Name Last Name - Age - Club - Description
GK Johann Van Zanten - 21 years old - Image San Llera University of Physiology - Many were surprised at Marko Vujvic's declaration that the starting goalkeeper this Copa would be the 21-year-old Johann Van Zanten, of the San Llera University of Physiology. Whether he will succeed in this role is yet to be seen.
GK Denis Thoda - 26 years old - Image Cenial Liberty - One of San Llera's most promising young goalkeepers, Thoda started in the Copa Rushmori, and played decently, giving up five goals over four matches. He is currently plying his trade with Cenial Liberty in Ceni, where he as emerged as one of the best young goalkeepers, if not goalkeepers in general, in the league.
GK Marcel Fons - 32 years old - Image Amici Llano - Marcel Fons, younger brother of longtime starter Chimo, has never found a place in San Llera's starting lineup, and will continue to serve in a backup role even after an excellent season with Amici Llano.
LCB Robert Rivello - 27 years old - Image Newrook City - A former Di Bradini Cup star, Rivello is now thrust into a starting role with the national team. He is a very feisty defender, a bit dirty at times, but in a good way. Opposing strikers should fear him.
CB Gerard Quella - 31 years old - Image Tynset City - Nine years ago Quella was a shock selection who nobody had heard of. But solid World Cup play has made him an established player known for his clever passing. Now Quella is in his ninth major tournament is as many years, and he has emerged as perhaps San Llera's best center back.
RCB Antoni Belles - 29 years old - Image Granger Dragonites - Belles is a speedster who loves to overlap with winger and put in crosses but often gets caught in possession. However, he recently has been better at getting back on defense and acting more his age. The new 3-2-4-1 formation will test his defensive chops.
LB Ramondiera - 22 years old - Image - Besmarlaltur Wanderers - Tremendous work rate and blazing speed up and down the flank, but technically he's still very raw. Decent performances in the Copa Rushmori and a thinness in the left back pool earned him a call-up.
CB Alvar Frutos - 29 years old - Image Pantans - Frutos, now wearing blue and gold for the first time since a Di Bradini Cup appearance seven years ago, is the protégé of former national team starter Marc Abello. He has quietly been one of the best, if not the most conservative, defenders in the San League amid the train wreck that is his club.
CB Alexandre De Gonia - 34 years old - Image Llerana SC - "The Soviet Swan" is the dirtiest player on the team, and will slide tackle anyone in sight. However, those who know him will tell you that he's a very kind, gentle, and romantic man. But if you see him on the pitch, you will start to doubt this.
RB Amerigo - 26 years old - Image AS Mantegapa - Another Di Bradini veteran, Amerigo has been a staple on San Llera's bench in recent years. Luckily, promising performances domestically with AS Mantegapa indicate that the adventurous right back will be a fine replacement in case of injury.
CDM Hector Fonda - 32 years old - Image Vaduz Portcullis - "The Sponge" is one of the most popular players on San Llera, and he backs that popularity up with his talent. Fonda is rough, tough, and a beast in the defensive midfield who is feared by attackers and makes the defenders' lives much easier. He has also recently developed very nice chemistry with Bou, his partner in central midfield.
CM Teodor Alemany - 28 years old - Image Klyde - Partnering Fonda in the defensive midfield is Teodor Alemany. Alemany is a defensive midfielder of the San Lleran mold, being rough and not afraid of anybody. He is currently playing in Cosumar with Klyde.
LW Pelechamchas - 33 years old - Image Chell SC - What Pelechamchas lacks in pure talent, he makes up for in pure speed. The 6'4" winger isn't the greatest natural soccer player in the world, but he is a beast in the air with his height and nearly impossible to keep up with for defenders. He is admittedly not great defensively (although he's improving), but the offensive threat he offers with his speed and excellent ability to whip in crosses, never mind use his six feet and four inches to latch on to crosses, earns him a place on the team.
CM Enric Bou - 27 years old - Image FC Farleigh-Warburton - Bou has cemented his place as the star of San Lleran soccer after an inspiring performance in last year's World Cup. He is one of the best passers that can be found, from his precision to his immaculate vision of the pitch. He is still baby-faced and lanky, but his technical skill makes up for it.
R/CM Oscar Cardona - 29 years old - Image Patria Poble - The star on San Llera's first Di Bradini Cup, Cardona has all the tools to be a great center-mid, with good vision, silky passing, and flashy dribbling. However, given the depth San Llera has at the center, Cardona was forced to switch to the wing - a not entirely successful experiment. He is now a right center midfielder in the new 3-2-4-1.
RW Adam Gasca - 24 years old - Image Molde FC - Former teenage sensation slowly coming into his own. Like his career, his play seemingly runs in slow motion but is surprisingly effective. Gasca is poised and technically sound, if not incredibly athletic.
CM Franc Sires - 28 years old - Image Eikborg Club - Sires has been out of the national team picture until recently, but he has passing and vision akin to Bou and plays for the prominent Eikborg Club of Semarland, competing at a high level in the LigAnaia.
CM Paulo Masias - 30 years old - Image Llerana SC - The Llerana SC central midfielder is earning his first call-up in seven years after helping Llerana SC to the San League Soccer crown. He is a crisp passer and dynamic going forward, but has a temper and is regarded as a poor locker room addition.
ST Carles Mestre - 32 years old - Image Familia Llano - Mestre, at his best, is clearly the starting striker for San Llera and perhaps the best player on the team. However, Mestre at his worst doesn't deserve to be in consideration for the roster. Marko Vujvic will certainly hope he gets the good side of the 5'1" striker this Copa, especially considering that he won't have the support of a strike partner.
ST Jan Capo - 30 years old - Image Chell SC - Jan is talented but has attitude problems. He may have once shot a man outside of a nightclub, which would make sense given his propensity for shooting. To be fair, he does have an excellent left boot, but could pass a but more.
ST Bellemurillo - 27 years old - Image Arsenal de Releinthi - Bellemurillo, currently with Arsenal de Releinthi in Abanhfleft, showed promise during World Cup qualification, and will get a fair share of starts. He is incredibly speedy and smart with his speed (in terms of making clever runs) but not a fantastic finisher.
ST Adam Cassista - 31 years old - Image Llerana SC - One of the title-holder's stars, Cassista is a poacher, and quite a good one, scoring buckets of goals in the last season.

Nation Name:Taeshan
Demonym: Taeshanis, Taeshites, Taes
Team Nickname: Purple Knights
Modifier: -5
Captain: Maxwell McMichael
Vice-Captain: Andrew Chesnut

Jerseys

MANAGERIAL STAFF
Manager: Lysander Ying Uinh
Lysander Ying Uing now takes over charge of the Taeshan national team. Ender Wiggin was a strong coach in short competitions like the Copa Rushmori, but was never good enough over a full qualifying campaign. The former Captain takes over less than 8 years removed from his last national team cap and only 3 years after his retirement from Bayern Phoenix. He looks to continue the long running 4-4-2 of the national team, though he emphasizes speed and counter-attack much more than earlier managers.

Assistant Manager: Peter Wiggin
Peter Wiggin has retired from the national team and he will look to learn from former teammate Lysander Ying Uing. While still playing for his club side, the younger Wiggin is looking to get his badges, while also hopefully helping lead the national team back to the World Cup. He will work mostly with forwards, especially with Landon van Neymar moving forward and switching from a playmaking position, to a speedy winger type position.

GOALKEEPERS

1 - Xavier Troubador - Fadron Flight 55 Caps, 28 Years Old
Xavier Troubadour is one of the best Goalkeepers in Taeshan’s Premier League and will push the team hopefully to his first world cup by the time he retires in two world cups most likely. He is a great club keeper, but he has never won any sort of championship with his club side.

12 - Jillian Montague - Real Atlantea 0 Caps, 21 Years Old
Jillian Montague is the granddaughter of the famous Taeshani Goalkeeper Tad Montague who was the first keeper ever for the nation and played 307 games for the squad, and captained them for over 150 games. The pressure on her is quite immense.

24 - Gregoire Avery - New Capetown Falcons 1 Cap, 24 Years Old
.Gregoire Avery has long been considered the best young goalkeeper in Taeshan, but now he seems unlikely to get his chance to start as new second keeper Jillian Montague makes her way to join the team.

DEFENDERS

2 - LB, Gordon Bombay – Real Atlantea 30 Caps, 28 Years Old
Gordon Bombay is the bombing fullback for the Purple Knights. He has the pace to get back defensively, but also the offensive ability to be a big part of the Taeshan attack. Overall he has multiple premier league titles, and is the most decorated member of the squad.

3 - CB, Andrew Chesnut - Los Riosa Monstas 68 Caps, 2 Goals, 28 Years OldVice-Captain
Andrew Chesnut is now the highest capped member of the national team having been in the lineup one qualifying longer than the captain McMichael. Chesnut will likely take the Captain roll for a campaign once McMichael retires. He is the leader of the back four, and now must make sure the rest of the defense stays in line.

4 - CB, Jefferson Lafitte - 1093 Club de Atlantea 5 Caps, 26 Years Old
Taking over for longtime center back Orion Black is Jefferson Lafitte a wily Premier League veteran who is known for his decision making defensively and for being able to somehow come away winning aerials often.

5 - RB, Moki Nguyen – Real Old Maiz (Zenic) 31 Caps, 27 Years Old
Moki Nguyen is a the calm point of the Taeshani defense and plays his side of the defense more defensively than you will see from Gordon Bombay. He is a strong center back type who will also push forward on free kicks.

14- Alexander Kaiba - Real Atlantea 5 Caps, 21 Years Old
Alexander Kaiba is a championship winning wing back for Real Atlantea and will likely start for the Purple Knights in that position by the end of his career, he is a speedy wing type option on the bench, and is the main fullback off the bench for the Knights.

21 – Torsten Abigail – Tintown Terrapins 3 Caps, 21 Years Old
Torsten Abigail was in the running to get the second starting center back position, but he will have to wait to have his chance to start. He will likely push Jefferson Lafitte each training to work to take the spot from him.

23- Ford Cancun - Real Chinchinhua 0 Caps, 20 Years Old
Ford Cancun is a young center back that looks strong for the team coming up. He will likely not see a lot of time this cup as Torsten Abigail is the favored center back on the bench. That said he looks really strong for his club side.

MIDFIELDERS

6 - CDM, Maxwell McMichael - Knightspurs 53 Caps, 1 Goal, 30 Years Old Captain
Maxwell McMichael seems likely to make this his last Copa Rushmori followed by his last qualifying attempt. He has been a strong starter for about 6 years, and Captains the side for the third time in the upcoming tournament. He will look to improve upon their lackluster performance in the last edition.

9- LM, Everett Eskandarian – Llara Llera (San Llera) 19 Caps, 2 Goals, 28 Years Old
Eskandarian has been really strong playing out of the left hand side spot for the Purple Knights. He has been a big part of the team push to qualify for the last tournament. He continues to start, but will likely see pressure from the Petersheim brothers to start at some point during the upcoming seasons.

10- CAM, Enrique Fuegahita – Real Chinchinhua 4 Caps, 1 Goal, 20 Years Old
Enrique Fuegahita looks to take over the attacking midfield position from Landon van Neymar this competition. He is a smart, speedy, attacking player who can also work his way back to get stops defensively. He can sometimes be a bit of a drama queen though.

11 - RM, Anton Vader - Hannah 15 Caps, 1 Goal, 25 Years Old
Anton Vader was the biggest surprise in the last Copa Rushmori, not only that he made the squad, but that he managed to start through that competition and the qualifiers. He holds the ball up well, is rather good at corners and free kicks, and can get down the field fast enough to make an impact.

15 – Marko Hanoi – Tintown Terrapins 5 Caps, 28 Years Old
Many thought Marko Hanoi would not return for the upcoming two seasons but it seems he has and the attacking midfielder may see a few more caps before his career is over. Though he is basically the only midfielder on the bench over 21 he is still a great option to put on the field.

17- Elton Petersheim – Bayern-Algaer 5 Caps, 20 Years Old
Elton Petersheim left his twin brother in New Capetown and helped a team win a Premier League trophy for it. But the left footed winger is just as likely to see the field as his brother, but much less likely to be the heading threat than his brother.

18 – Ensign Petersheim – New Capetown Falcons 5 Caps, 1 Goal, 20 Years Old
Ensign Petersheim is likely to start in the next qualifying campaign after Maxwell McMichael hangs up his boots. He is a strong box to box midfielder and can work both offensively and defensively for his team.

20 – Tavon Greenshire- New Capetown Falcons - 5 Caps, 20 Years Old
Tavon Greenshire is a very strong central midfielder and he was part of two cup winning campaigns for his club in the last two years. He hopes to be among the group who brings glory back to his city New Capetown, and his country.

19 – Wilhelm Quinones - Yaton FC 0 Caps, 19 Years Old
Quinones is the third of the four new members of the national team earning their first call ups. He has played in Under 18, and Under 21 world cups and looks very likely to be a big part of the team going forward.

23 – Alejandro Caracas - Atlantea Hurricanes 0 Caps, 21 Years Old
One of the four new members of the national team, Caracas wasn’t alive the last time his club side won a Premier League title, nor the last time his nation qualified for the world cup. That said he is a strong player that could see a lot of time off the bench on the wings.

STRIKERS

7 - RS, Landon van Neymar – Blacklake Blues 51 Caps, 11 Goals, 26 Years Old
Van Neymar was very good at playing the distributor role as an attacking midfielder for the past two campaigns but now moves into position in a more natural striker position. The Blacklake man has been very good and looks ready to contribute in the position he would have always have envisioned himself in.

8 - LS, Miles Snavely – Cenial United (Ceni) 55 Caps, 38 Goals, 24 Years Old
Miles Snavely moved on from his original international side Kernansquillec City, moving to an even further unknown in Ceni. The young forward, if you can call a six year starter young, still has much of his career ahead of him and although he has a Copa Rushmori victory, he has yet to help his team qualify for the world cup.

13 – Jon Hutch – Atlantea Hurricanes 5 Caps, 1 Goal, 22 Years Old
Jon Hutch is the bigger of the two forwards on the bench and will likely see the field to hold up the play for his midfielders. He is likely to see the field a lot late in games where the Purple Knights have a lead and will look to slow down the ball.

16 – Gordie von Houten – Real Atlantea 5 Caps, 1 Goal, 23 Years Old
Van Houten is the speed option off the bench for Lysander Ying Uing. While never having won the league with Real Atlantea during his career he does know how to win games, and score goals. He will see the field likely late in the second half to stretch tired defenses.

I have submitted these rankings in another RP here. Hence the time spent compiling the rankings should not be factored into RP bonus, but all other content is original.

SanLeagueRank

In anticipation of the upcoming San League Soccer season, we here at Viva Dicce have decided to rank the top 100 performing players of last season. Here we go with numbers 100-91:

100. Eduard Mayner
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Pantans | Position: LW | Composite Rating: 5.42 |
A former national team player, age has caught up to Eduard Mayner and taken his speed, but he still manages to start for a lower-to-mid-table team in Pantans. While he no longer can zoom down the left flank like the days of old, and his defense is among the worst at his position, Mayner is still a capable crosser of the ball.

99. Simo Tahuengo
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Familia Llano | Position: RM | Composite Rating: 5.47 |
Tahuengo is an oft-forgotten player, a decent piece on a decent side. While his offense does not come near to that of other wingers, he is an excellent defender, and for this is greatly appreciated by Familia Llano fans (of which, granted, there are very few).

98. Jean Pierre Alenquóise
| Nationality: Image Kitsunia-Deesse | Club: AS Mantegapa | Position: LB | Composite Rating: 5.49 |
After spending his youth in Kitsunia-Deesse, Jean Pierre Alenquóise was picked up on a free transfer by AS Mantegapa some five years ago. It took him until last season, however, to really cement a place in the La Tempesta starting lineup. He excelled at times, both going forward and defendively, but was very prone to errors and hence is only 98th.

97. Jacque Jari
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: San Llera University of Linguistics Soccer | Position: CM | Composite Rating: 5.52 |
One of three SLUL players in this list, Jari is in his third season with the Linguists and has developed an excellent chemistry with striker Ismail al-Said, one which helped his team stay safe last season. He had seven assists last season, but could not find his way onto the score sheet.

96. Demeterio Bottego
| Nationality: Image Batto Vitolo | Club: Pantans | Position: LB | Composite Rating: 5.57 |
The left back for Pantans and the Batto Vitolan national team, Bottego is a decent all-around fullback, if nothing special. The 26-year-old is more known for his passionate and candid post-match interviews than his play on the field.

95. Marco Hull
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Camp Pende | Position: LB | Composite Rating: 5.64 |
Marco Hull, the Camp Pende left back, managed to score three own goals last year, an undesirable club record, but has been a reliable choice at left back for his club in his six seasons. Short and stocky, Hull is powerful enough to win headers and body out attackers, but lacks the speed of many at his position.

94. Chanista Chanista
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: AS Mantegapa | Position: LW | Composite Rating: 5.79 |
Known for his speed and dribbling prowess, Chanista Chanista is a widly inconsistent winger for AS Mantegapa. While capable of amazing goals such as the stunner that earned goal of the season several years ago, Chanista is also capable of disappearing from a match entirely, on both sides of the ball. An entertaining player to watch, but frustrating for Mantegapa fans.

93. Dario Mata
| Nationality:Image San Llera | Club: AS Mantegapa | Position: ST | Composite Rating: 5.87 |
The third AS Mantegapa player to appear on the 100-91 section of this list, Mata was once a promising prospect and seen as a future national team striker. Unfortunately, he has not improved much in the last seven seasons, and still makes youthful mistakes as a 28-year-old. When not misplacing passes or dribbling into defenders, however, Mata does have clear talent - his right foot is as powerful as you'll find in the league.

92. Machago
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Cremando Llera | Position: RB | Composite Rating: 5.94 |
Machago had a very poor season last year, and was a part of Cremando Llera's disastrous second half, which ended up with the perennial Globe Cup qualifiers slipping all the way to 7th place. Several grave mistakes leading to goals and an off-field dispute with his manager earned Machago the ire of Cremando Llera fans, and he was benched midseason. His last several games, however, were a return to form, and fans hope he can continue that into next season.

91. Luther Valiant
| Nationality: Image | Club: Amici Llano | Position: CB | Composite Rating: 5.96 |
Last season was the last for Luther Valiant, at the ripe old age of 37. Last season was not his best due to age, but he has still earned the respect of Amici Llano fans and players in his San League Soccer career. Valiant's crunching tackles will be missed.
There are many places, and one such place is Rushmore.

THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF THE UNITED SOCIALIST STATES OF PRIDNESTROVIA
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

It has been at least ten years since Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko was defeated in glorious battle against the forces of the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft, six years since the greatest field marshal the world has ever seen was undisputably beaten by the forces of a faraway country that was still in the midst of recovering from a devastating religious civil war. Those ten years have seen humiliation upon humiliation bestowed by these meddling foreigners upon the once and only rightful ruler of the United Socialist States, Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko. The nation, and our Great Leader, was forced to accept a humiliating peace with the "Democratic" Republic, which saw our glorious nation become a mere "client state" of these troublesome foreigners. In exchange, Great Leader Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko, would remain in position as rightful ruler of the Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia, as befitting his station in life. Yet knowing that he is only ruler by virtue of a foreigner's whim has weighed down hard on the Great Leader Field Marshal. This resulted in the great United Socialist States closing itself off from the rest of the multiverse, so that no foreigner would see the shame that had been wrought upon the Great Leader.

But no longer. Great Leader Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko has decided that the time for seclusion is over. No longer will Pridnestrovia remain under the shadow of the foreigners that had forced itself upon our great nation. We will show that Pridnestrovia has what it takes to become a real and true member of the multiversal community. But we will not do it through our military force. Instead, we will show that we are the best in the multiverse through sports! Sports, which is just codified barbarism! This will show the multiverse that Pridnestrovia is the best sporting country in the world! We will defeat every other nation that dares come up against us! And this time, we shall conquer the World Cup with our women, just like Abanhfleft attempted with the World Cup, but this time, we will succeed!

(OOC: I love being a dictatorial country's propaganda writer)

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: The Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia
Demonym: Pridnestrovian
Team colors: Green and red
Style modifier: +4 (Quite an attacking side)
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Head coach: Yakov Chernenko (50 y/o, Pridnestrovia)

STARTERS
GK: Marfa Isayevna KIRILENKO 25 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image (Abanhfleft), vice captain
Marfa Kirilenko is one of the just many players on the Pridnestrovian women's football team who were born in Abanhfleft because their parents fled the Motherland during President Field Marshal Stepan Stepanenko's glorious revolution. It took a lot of convincing before Marfa, along with many other promising female Pridnestrovian-descended players in Abanhfleft, agreed to represent the Red Army. But who could blame Marfa for her decision to represent Pridnestrovia, the land that had kicked out her family just because her father spoke out against the President Field Marshal? With great keepers like Vicky Carter, Yannie Redborne, and Yelena Valinovskaya in the Fleftic women's team, it was a no-brainer decision. Decent and traditional keeper with only the occasional acrobatic save in her repertoire of skills.

RB: Petra Petrovna SHEVCHENKO 22 y/o, Sheriff Tiraspol Women Image
Petra is one of the few players in the current Pridnestrovian women's team to be born and raised in Pridnestrovian, as well as playing for a Pridnestrovian team. It's not hard to see why a lot of Pridnestrovia's players have to come from overseas: women's football doesn't receive as much attention from President Field Marshal Stepanenko as the men's game, and Shevchenko is only in the team because there are no other right backs available that are better than her, which is saying something because Petra has done nothing much for Sheriff Women to distinguish her in this field.

RCB: Tatiana Igorovna GEVORGIAN 27 y/o, Dinamo Bender Women Image
Tatiana Gevorgian is one of the few remaining players from the original women's team to keep her spot in the new national team, and for good reason. Not only is she one of the most dependable center backs in Pridnestrovia, she also has a very good partnership with her fellow center back, Yelena Tymoshenko, a partnership which Yakov Chernenko will be more than reluctant to mess with. Tatiana is a solid center back who can break up attacks at will and has the speed and pace to keep up with counterattacks, and her only weakness is an inability to defend aerial threats, but then again, that's what Tymoshenko is for.

LCB: Yelena Artyomovna TYMOSHENKO 29 y/o, Dinamo Bender Women Image
The other half of both Pridnestrovia and Dinamo Bender Women's effective center back partnership. Yelena Tymoshenko is a big and strong defender with great aerial ability and a neat left foot that looks very much like a forward's scoring foot, which makes a potent threat during set pieces. The only problem with her is that she's slower than a turtle, which allows sides with quick counterattacking tactics to take advantage and capitalize on a reduced back line. Well, that's where Tanya Gevorgian comes in, anyway.

LB: Oksana Yuriyevna ARTYOMOVA 24 y/o, Sheriff Tiraspol Women Image
Another Fleftic-born Pridnestrovian player who decided to represent the Motherland due to both loyalty and the fact that there are much better left-backs representing the blue, orange, and green Fleftics. On her day, Oksana Artyomova is a capable left-back who even has a possible future as a wing-back, but since Pridnestrovian footballing philosophy is that there is no need for a defensive player to join in on the attack if there is no pressing need, Oksana will have to stick to her defensive duties. But that doesn't mean that she doesn't try being a wing-back from time to time, and while this hasn't really harmed the national team yet, ruthless teams could take advantage of this and exploit the space on the left side that Oksana will inevitably leave during her attacking forays.

RDM: Yelena Demyanovna SHOSTAKOVICH 26 y/o, La Gorlions Image (Schottia)
Yelena Shostakovich is listed as a defensive midfielder, but she's more than just that. While she can and does have a great tackle that can break up any and every kind of attack (provided that she can react to it in time), her main job is to receive the ball from the defense and then initiate the Pridnestrovian attack. She's also good for the occasional long shot or free kick when needed, but her main forte is really ball distribution and pitch vision.

LDM: Bogdana Alekseyevna FELTZER 33 y/o, Spartak Tiraspol Women Image
Bogdana Feltzer can be accurately described in just one word: an enforcer. Actually, that's two words. Nevertheless, Bogdana's strength lies in the fact that she is like a traffic enforcer: always looking out for anyone trying to go the wrong way, specifically, towards the goal that her team is defending. And like any halfway reliable enforcer, she will stop any opposing player bearing down on the goal and turn them back in the way that they came from. That's good, but now that she's 32, she's not exactly a spring chicken anymore, and who knows who's going to replace her in the midfield enforcer role after the World Cup?

RW: Greta Nikolayevna HEDERVARY 24 y/o, Sheriff Tiraspol Women Image
Greta Hedervary is an ethnic Hungarian living in Pridnestrovia, which has both its benefits and drawbacks. The Hungarian Pridnestrovians are generally considered as some of Pridnestrovia's best football players, and Greta is the daughter of Miklos Hedervary, one of the greatest Pridnestrovian players to ever grace the pitch. She inherited a lot of the talent and skill that made Miklos Hedervary one of the best and most beloved Pridnestrovian players, but living up to such a great heritage could be something that Greta might find just a bit too hard to do. Greta's skill set includes impressive crossing and striker-like composure and finishing in front of goal, but there's always that sort of hesitancy in her style of play.

CAM: Tanya Ilyinichna POROSHENKO 25 y/o, Dinamo Bender Women Image
Yet another player born and raised in Abanhfleft who nevertheless decided to go play in Pridnestrovia and represent it in international football because there were simply too many better players in her favored position playing for the Lady Revolutionaries. Tanya Poroshenko may not be as good with distributing the ball or scoring goals as Allison Torres, but that's only because Tanya didn't pursue football until she was in college and decided to take up a varsity sport. Looking at it that way, though, Tanya had much the same start into football as Sonny Torres, except for the fact that Tanya's university never won any trophies while she was playing, and also probably because she was Pridnestrovian. Who says institutional racism is dead?

LW: Bisera Hristova HARALAMPIEVA 25 y/o, Hunsen Loggers Image (Anglatia)
Bisera Haralampieva is yet another Pridnestrovian player lured back to the Democratic People's Republic by the promise of actually getting to sit on the bench or even sometimes start for the national team, something that the Samahang Futbol ng Abanhfleft wasn't able to offer, but that's mostly because the Fleftics have got the likes of Adelaide Singh and Cecilia Johnson on the left wing for them. Bisera actually once looked like she could compete for a place in the national team alongside Singh and Johnson; this was when she had her breakout season with Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies. When it became clear that she wasn't going to be considered for a spot in the Fleftic national team, though, Bisera accepted a move to Pridnestrovia's Union Rheinburg Women to be able to train more closely with the Pridnestrovian national team. But after getting benched in Rheinburg, Bisera is considering moving clubs yet again, with Anglatia's Hunsen Loggers being her most likely target, probably because it's also her only target.

CF: Irina Vladislavovna PAVLYUCHENKO 26 y/o, Sarvusdalamoive Ladies Image (Abanhfleft), captain
Out of the slightly medium-sized shadow of Arkadia Zubarenko comes Irina Pavlyuchenko, yet another daughter of Pridnestrovian exiles come back to represent the Democratic People's Republic. There's nothing much to distinguish Irina from other strikers in the multiverse: she has great left and right feet but has a slight preference for her right foot, and she has good aerial ability. About the only thing that stands out with Irina is that she's a bit of a wind-up merchant. She has a tendency to play mind games with the opposition, and while some of her mind games involve words with the opposing players, most of her trickery has to do with the way she always flits about on the pitch. Irina is quite the witch when she moves around. A scarlet witch, even, given that she's playing for a country full of Reds.

Bogdana Markova used to be Pridnestrovia's starting keeper before she lost her place to Marfa Kirilenko after she impressed in her debut season for Abanhfleft's Imperial Markovsky Women, and Kirilenko's twenty clean sheets were more than enough to help the Imperials get promoted to the Fleftic Ladies' Second Division. It's tough to be a backup keeper, especially when the keeper starting ahead of Bogdana is five years younger than her and has much bigger potential than Bogdana has. Yakov Chernenko may be looking to finally drop Bogdana from the team in favor of younger keepers, as his decision to bring on Sibylle Pfenning instead of Bogdana during the Copa Rushmori round of 16 game against Valladares will testify.

GK: Sibylle PFENNING 21 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies Image (Abanhfleft)
At just 20 years old, one would think that there would be a great deal more keepers who were better at, well, keeping, than Sibylle Pfenning, but apparently, this German Pridnestrovian girl living in Markovsky is much better than any other keeper playing in Pridnestrovia, aside from Bogdana Markova. But it looks as if even Markova is on her way out of the team, as it was Sibylle whom Yakov Chernenko sent on to replace the injured Marfa Kirilenko during the ill-fated round of 16 match against Valladares in which Pridnestrovia eventually lost 3-2 in extra time.

DEF: Irena "Irenka" SZWEDA 25 y/o, Union Rheinburg Women Image
Irena Szweda, nicknamed Irenka by her friends, is a good enough fullback coming from the bench. Her lack of any decent stamina means that she can't be relied on to last the full ninety minutes of a regular match, and she's definitely out of the question if extra time and penalties apply. However, she can come on in the first minute of extra time and make the difference in the team's defense.

DEF: Violetta Rurikovna UTKINA 24 y/o, Xemlice Rovers Ladies Image (Abanhfleft)
Violetta Utkina is the eldest daughter of Pridnestrovian goalkeeping legend Rurik Utkin, back when he was just an 18-year-old barely scraping a living as a reserve keeper in Abanhfleft's lower leagues. Violetta is great on her feet and is a good defender, but to her father's chagrin and slight dismay, she couldn't become a decent keeper to save her life. But Violetta's happy enough playing outfield, so that's that.

DEF: Aygül KARTAL 22 y/o, Gryphons Nubalochi Mujeres Image (Oontaz)
Aygül Kartal is one of few Turkish Pridnestrovians who had found fame and success both inside and outside of Pridnestrovia, although it should be said that Gryphons Mujeres barely got out of last season's Oontaznik Women's First Division with both hands on the title, as Ladies of Santos FC were constantly on their tail until the final matchday. Even though she's a defender, Aygül scored six goals, two of against Santos Ladies in both times that they faced each other in the league; the first goal tied the game between Gryphons and Santos, and her second goal gave Nubalochi all three points against their title rivals in the final matchday. Aygül's most probably going to be an impact sub for the World Cup qualifiers.

MID: Beyza KUNDAKÇI 24 y/o, Gryphons Nubalochi Mujeres Image (Oontaz)
Beyza Kundakçi is basically the other half of Gryphons Mujeres' defensive unit that won them the Oontaz Women's First Division title last season. Whereas her partner-in-crime Aygül Kartal was the goalscoring half of their defense, Beyza was the solid wall of defense half of the equation. She had 15 clean sheets to her name, which is a very great thing considering that every team in the Women's First Division only has 18 games in the league. Like Aygül, her main job will be as an impact sub, but Beyza's job will be to help close out games, especially against better opposition.

MID: Oleksandra "Lesya" Ruslanovna KEDZIERSKA 30 y/o, Sarvusdalamoive Ladies Image (Abanhfleft)
There's nothing much to describe Oleksandra Kedzierska, "Lesya" to her friends and family, except that she's a decent enough fullback to warrant a spot in the Pridnestrovian women's national team. And that's that for her, apparently. There's nothing much else to distinguish Lesya from any other fullback sitting on the bench of a national football team.

MID: Salome FALK 23 y/o, Dinamo Bender Women Image
If push comes to shove, Salome Falk can step in to replace her half-German, half-Russian compatriot Bogdana Feltzer as a defensive midfielder, but Salome still has a tendency to throw her whole body behind tackles and other ways of breaking up opposing attacks. She already has a lot of bookings to her name, and unless Feltzer can mentor her into a more responsible defensive midfielder, at least one yellow card is all but assured once Salome steps onto the pitch.

MID: Ursula ULLMAN 24 y/o, Vorpommern Nyqvist Women Image
Taking Ursula Ullman out on the pitch is a last resort for Yakov Cherhenko. It's not that Ursula is green around the gills when it comes to playing as a central midfielder, but her passing still needs some work. Ursula has great field vision, but whenever she tries to get a pass to a teammate, an opposing player or the referee gets in the way of the pass. If she could just improve her passing, then Ursula could be a great ball distributor like Yelena Shostakovich, but that's still a long way away.

MID: Yelizaveta Fyodorovna ISAYEVA 31 y/o, Union Rheinburg Women Image
Technically, Yelizaveta Isayeva is a midfielder, but more often than not, she's deployed as a winger or even an out-and-out striker. Let it be said that Yelizaveta is more suited as a winger or even a central attacking midfielder rather than as a striker or center forward. Yelizaveta is the kind of player who would rather pass the ball to a teammate even though she has the clearest shot at goal.

FW: Arkadia Gerasimovna ZUBARENKO 34 y/o, Keephall Valkyries Image (Abanhfleft)
Back in the days when Pridnestrovia had a half-decent national team made mostly of locals playing within their borders, Arkadia Zubarenko was the rare player from outside the country who was given the chance to represent her motherland. It would be hard to deny that Abanhfleft let a great opportunity slip when the SFA allowed Arkadia to represent Pridnestrovia, the country that exiled her father due to his anti-Stepanenko statements in the days immediately following the President Field Marshal's ascension to the presidency. Arkadia has been the Pridnestrovian women's team's star player for almost a decade now, but with new talents such as Irina Pavlyuchenko and Bisera Haralampieva rising through the ranks and becoming stars in their own right, perhaps it's time for Arkadia to finally hang up the cleats, at least in international footy.

FW: Irina Vladimirovna SEVERTNIK 26 y/o, Ladies of Santos FC Image (Oontaz)
Irina Severtnik is a basic striker: good shooting, balanced left and right feet, some aerial ability, and an oft-noted inability to defend or chase the ball. It's for this reason that she's been put under the wing of Irina Pavlyuchenko, although whether she'll learn the Scarlet Witch's wind-up skills along with a dogged determination to go after the ball remains to be seen.

THE ASKARI UNION
Preferred Formation:
4-3-1-2
Style Modifier: -2
Playstyle: Partnerships! The Askari play in tight pairs and emphasise teamwork and physicality!
Kit Supplier: Cloaker
Captain: Carmine Quaglia
Nickname: le Porpore

The Askari are optimists, first and foremost. You kind of have to be to be in a tentatively stable communist-constructivist state, where the economy may be held together by prayer and duct tape and pure fortune is keeping anyone sufficiently malignant from the office of Chancellor, but they've already exceeded expectations by winning A Point!

The players are drawn from a wide variety of their 10 first-division clubs - as the league is strictly salary-capped in line with the communist spirit, parity within the league is considered a strong virtue.

Supplied by a mostly curious Cloaker, of Nephara. Capitalist scum they might be, but they have far more modern technology.

I Give My Opponent Permission To:
=================================
Choose My Goalscorers: Y
Godmod Goalscoring Events: N
Injure Players: Y
Godmod Injury Events: N
Red Card Players: Y
Yellow Card Players: Y
Godmod Other Events: N
=================================

Tactics
Image
First-choice lineup.
The Askari play defensively and emphasise hard work and, it has to be said, maybe a touch of firm and mostly fair physicality. Set pieces are their main threat, they've been drilled to within an inch of their lives, but they also pose a threat on the counterattack.

Staff
Manager: Dante Marchesi
Asst. Manager: Nerio Marino

Marchesi manages the defensive-minded, very blue-collar Grigio Calcio domestically as his day job, and it's his reputation as an organiser and motivator that got him the job with the Union. He brought his capable assistant, Marino, with him.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Pierluigi Cevenni - Age 26 - Dinamo Sainati
12 - GK - Pierrick Salvatici - Age 29 - Grigio Calcio
18 - GK - Corrado Marchegiano - Age 22 - SSC Honneur

Cevenni is an excellent reflex stopper more or less baseline capable in all other things. He's hoping to win a more lucrative contract abroad on the strength of his performances here.

Defenders
2 - RB - Andria Riva - Age 23 - Hussards
3 - LB - Carmine Quaglia - Age 26 - Grigio Calcio - Captain
4 - CB - Chiarina Leone - Age 27 - Dinamo Sainati
5 - CB - Valerian Perrot - Age 31 - SSC Honneur
13 - CB - Armelle Merlot - Age 32 - Stade-National
16 - LB - Guido Dufort - Age 28 - Gaillard
17 - RB - Martina Roma - Age 24 - LSC Duneroi
21 - CB - Tomas Bosco - Age 28 - Gaillard

Fortunately for the Union, Riva and Quaglia on the flanks are two of their best players, quick and defensively solid, and happy to run all across the pitch. Leone is more of a constructor than a destroyer (like Perrot), cultured enough to take the ball forward sometimes but still capable of clearing her lines. The backups are a good step below the first-choices, and are unlikely to see much time.

Midfielders
6 - CM - Zoe Aucciello - Age 24 - Hussards
8 - RCM - Paulu Ansaldi - Age 25 - Stade-National
10 - LCM - Stefano Gagnon - Age 29 - SSC Crespoli
11 - AM - Gratien Accorsi - Age 21 - Stade-National
14 - AM - Eutimio Orsini - Age 31 - AC Sainati
19 - CM - Gwenael Bisset - Age 20 - Hussards
20 - LCM - Orianne Mantovani - Age 26 - FC Elan
23 - RCM - Corneille Aliberti - Age 29 - SSC Honneur

A young and talented midfield, especially the intelligent Aucciello and the quick-footed, daring Accorsi. Ansaldi and Gagnon are merely water-carriers, the kind of glue that holds a hard-up side like this together. On the bench, Bisset is very promising and is already pushing for starts.

Forwards
7 - ST - Magali Quaranta - Age 25 - Stade-National
9 - ST - Rolando Ambrosi - Age 26 - AC Sainati
15 - ST - Alyx Sabbadin - Age 23 - Hussards
22 - ST - Rico Proulx - Age 25 - Dinamo Sainati

Quaranta and Ambrosi (and Sabbadin) took the league by storm last season, the former managing roughly three goals every four matches. Both are in the same mould - technically limited, sure, but quick, entirely made of lean muscle and decent finishers. Good enough in the air to be a threat from set pieces, but tailor-made for counterattacking.

The Story Behind Kernansquillec's Absence

Kernansquillec only made their return to the international sporting following the Olympic Games where both of their teams crashed out in qualifying. The reasons behind why Kernansquillec have needed to make a return are well known as the case of their international ban created outrage throughout Kernansquillec and was not fully supported by other foreign football associations. So what happened to Kernansquillec? The short version that everyone knows is that crowd troubles led to the death of a supporter and resulted to international football's governing bodies to ban Kernansquillec from competing for three years due to their lack of safety.

In reality, the story is much more complicated. To begin with, we must go back to the afternoon of the tragedy, on 10th May 2066, Guingamp and Haut Corlay faced off at the 80,000 capacity Stade du Roudourou on the final day of the First Division season. Both were tied in fifth place, the final Globe Cup position, with 60 points each. But with goal difference largely favouring the visitors, Guingamp new that they had to claim the win to secure their place in UICA football. Tensions were high right from kick-off, both on and off the field. Two players, one from each side, were booked within the first six minutes of play. In the stands nerves were showing, but Guingamp captain Adélaïde Noupen gave the home fans something to cheer about just as half time was approaching. She wiggled free on the left side of the Haut Corlay 18 yard box and shot towards the bottom corner, just beyond the reach of Daisy Morgan.

At half-time Guingamp were just 45 minutes from getting their berth in the Globe Cup. But within 29 seconds of the restart, Haut Corlay had levelled and edged above the Paysans. A hopeful ball in to box from Talfryn Jacques was dropped by Guingamp shot-stopper Cass Banton and fell to the feet of substitute Nu Schwer, who tapped in to an open net. Home supporters were outraged for what they believed to be a foul on Banton - Wendy Fairbairn had jumped for the ball but was judged not to have illegally impeded the keeper. Outrage towards the referee soon turned towards the Haut Corlay players who were doing their best to run down the clock. A number of Haut Corlay supporters were also giving it their all in the stands and began to direct insulting chants towards the Guingamp supporters and players. The battle in the stands soon spilt over on to the pitch. A late tackle on Lara Hayley by Seòsaidh Bailey saw Haut Corlay's captain Catriona Jamison lose her cool as she lashed out at the Guingamp player, violently pushing her away from her teammate and knocking her over. While the intent of the action was questionable, the referee made yet another debatable decision to pull out a red card and send off Jamison.

Things turned ugly very quickly at the stadium. Three Haut Corlay supporters had to be tackled and restrained by the police as they invaded the pitch, while both sets of supporters threw multiple flairs on to pitch. The match was delayed for six minutes until everything was just about sorted and Guingamp resumed affairs with a players' advantage. Time still favoured Haut Corlay, but Guingamp were knocking on the door by throwing the kitchen sink at it. The treasured goal and what appeared to be the winner came with just one minute into the nine minutes of added time given. A mazy run by Kéziah Carrac, followed by a quick one-two with Noupen, gave the winger just enough time and space to fire a ball across goal that Peter Lilac was just able to get a foot on, diverting it into the back of the net. The stadium exploded to the noise of 70,000 odd Guingamp supporters who all believed that they had made it. But within minutes, they would be left with a bitter taste in their mouths. Haut-Corlay now had to attack and with only ten players on the field, it would have to be all-or-nothing. Paulette Moreno fired in long ball and long ball with Guingamp's defence holding on. Nu Schwer went all-so-close to making herself a legend with an amazing header that somehow was clawed around the post by Cass Banton. As the clocked ticked into the final 99th minute, the final corner kick of the match was the final chance of the game. Paulette Moreno put a deep corner into the box that had all of the other 20 players in it. Daisy Morgan, the goalkeeper, got to it first, heading it back across goal where Kenith Fontaine dived head-first to reach the ball and powered it into the back of the net to claim a last-second draw.

The full time whistle of the referee wasn't even heard. The celebrating Corlay supporters were making too much noise, as were the Guingamp fans who couldn't believe what they were seeing. Tensions began to rise as both sides threw flairs and other objects onto the pitch, often aimed at players and staff - all of whom were evacuated fairly quickly. With the players gone, fans turned their attention to each other and things soon got out of control. Flairs in the Guingamp section caused a small fire, pushing a number of Guingamp fans onto the pitch. With other more radical supporters seeing it as a pitch invasion, many soon began pouring on to the field and headed towards the Haut Corlay section. The lacklustre police presence, which had mainly focused on getting players off the field and protecting the tunnel weren't able to react in time as both sets of supporters brawled on and around the field, as well as in the stands.

Image
Riot police and fans clash inside the Roudourou Stadium
The police response came within fifteen minutes, but by then most Haut Corlay supporters had made a run for it out of the back of the stadium. Followed by some Guingamp supporters, the majority of those rioting on the pitch were forced out in the same direction as riot policing arriving at the stadium aimed to clear them off of the field before rounding them up. A number of radicals on both sides were able to escape with the crowd and clashes resumed in the streets around the stadium. A number of bars and terraces were ransacked in the nearby area, while groups of fans fought running battles in the street. Riot police attempted to contain the situation, but a calm would only be restored two hours after the end of the match. By then medical services had arrived on the scene and painted a dire picture. One Guingamp supporter had been killed in a street battle after being hit on the head by a brick thrown at him, while ninety-three people were injury, of which nine were seriously, as well as two police officers who received minor injuries from thrown flairs and objects.

The severeness of the incident brought it to national and international attention. Kernansquillec's government ordered an investigation into why police took so long to get a hand on the situation, while international media crews began flooding into Kernansquillec investigating possible widespread hooliganism. It was hardly a major issue in Kernansquillecan football, even at the time, but things were quickly being blown out of proportion, especially after news of the death of 47 years old Didier Duchoux was released. The UICA would have the issue brought to its attention and decided in a shock move to improve a three-year ban upon the Kernansquillecan Football Association, due to safety fears. The decision had been totally unexpected and shocked many footballing fans thoughout the world. Further damage would follow as the World Cup Committee followed suit with a three-year ban. The nation stood stunned at the fact that they would not be involved in any international football at club or national level for three entire seasons, all because of one major incident in the ten seasons of modern-day Kernansquillecan football. Many felt that if anyone should be banned it should be Guingamp and Haut-Corlay. The National Team in particular felt hard done by considering the excellent record of its supporters on its many travels.

Despite appeals and widespread support, the decisions stood. Many foreign players soon left Kernansquillec due to its lack of UICA football, while the national team's staff were laid off with the future of the KERFA uncertain. Some had speculated at the time that the ban might even be extended by football two leading international bodies. That would not be true in the end but the uncertainty had a lasting impact on domestic football, with funds draining out of a First Division that had been one of the rising stars of the international footballing community. The national side disappeared from one day to the next, only to reappear with largely youthful teams at qualifying for the XI Olympiad. Only with there 2-1 victory over The Isles of Avon did Kernansquillec fully return to international football.

Let us continue with numbers 90-81:

90. Usnavy
| Nationality: Image Dainer | Club: AS Mantegapa | Position: ST | Composite Rating: 6.03 |
Signed on a free transfer from Estrela d'Alva five seasons ago, Usnavy has been a serviceable if not world-beating striker for his club. The Daineri is now nearing the 50-goal mark for his career, and certainly has some of his typical ~10 goal seasons left in him.

89. Xavier La Macha
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: San Llera University of Agriculture Soccer | Position: CM | Composite Rating: 6.07 |
A mainstay in SLUA's midfield in past years, La Macha is always confident going forward, and has brought positivity to the SLUA offense. He does, however, sometimes flub on his defensive responsibilities, and is a frustrating player for Farmer fans. His team has just suffered their second relegation, and it would be generous to say he wasn't partially at fault - while he provided some goals, the midfield was dominated by opposing teams.

88. Andreas Lekas
| Nationality: Image Brenecia | Club: Llara Llera | Position: ST | Composite Rating: 6.08 |
The Brenecian Andreas Lekas inhabits a much lower ranking than he might have a season ago, shortly after suffering his worst San League Soccer season yet. Lekas went through a prolonged goal drought midseason, failing to score for thirteen games, and finishing with just seven. Still, his talent is unquestioned, and Llara Llera fans will hope that he returns to form next season.

87. Jordi Bens
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Cremando Llera | Position: ST | Composite Rating: 6.12 |
The lowest of the three Bens brothers, Jordi is still an important part of the Cremando Llera team. He has a distinctly different style and role from his two brothers, occupying more of a "false 9" position. He will often drop back into the midfield, receive the ball, and feed it to his forwards. Due to this, he scored just four goals last season, but recorded a number of assists.

86. Abelard Bayills
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Porta Llora | Position: CDM | Composite Rating: 6.17 |
Formerly of Campos Soldatos, Abelard Bayills was key to his club's promotion campaign in his first season, and soon departed for Porta Llora, where he has been one of the club's best midfielders. He is a lanky but surprisingly physical defensive midfielder who has also hooked up well with his wingers on both clubs.

85. CB Leonard Shulk
| Nationality: Image Unified Sunrise Islands | Club: Selvadores | Position: CB | Composite Rating: 6.24 |
"Skull Kid" is a young and eccentric center back for Selvadores, as well as a magician. A street soccer player until sixteen, Shulk's days in the streets of some Sunrise Island still show in his game, with his nutmegs and rainbow flicks. These can prove costly given his position, but he's a fan favorite with surprisingly good positioning and ability in the air.

84. Adam Llano
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Familia Llano | Position: GK | Composite Rating: 6.26 |
Few Familia Llano fans can forget Adam Llano's incredible second season with the club, in which he was one of the best if not the best keeper in the league en route to a Globe Cup spot for his club. While the last five have not been so prosperous, Llano is still a very good shot-stopper, although his distribution is questionable.

83. Felip Prado
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Cremando Llera | Position: RW | Composite Rating: 6.28 |
Felip Prado of Cremando Llera is one of the better defensive wingers playing their trade in San Llera, often shutting down the likes of Pelechamchas and Luis Zeliza. Like most of his team, he is hardworking and disciplined.

82. Andreas Quoe
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Amici Llano | Position: RW | Composite Rating: 6.28 |
On the other side of the winger spectrum is Andreas Quoe, a poor defender but good offensive player. His crosses to feed the likes of Deric Porla are feared by goalkeepers throughout the league, always swinging outward and finding the head of his teammate. Quoe also has the ability to forgo passing and take it himself, such as his excellent solo goal against Patria Poble.

81. Quince Morales
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Chell SC | Position: RW | Composite Rating: 6.31 |
The right-winger circle has closed, and we end this section with a balanced one in Quince Morales. Morales's long San League Soccer career has produced a lot of consistency if not stardom, and he has worked hard on all ends of the pitch. Fans have come to like him for his clear passion.

"Aye, you think that the Wanderers are tailing off a bit, what with not making it out of the Round of Sixteen two World Cups in a row now? They didn't even win the last Copa Rushmori when they were the cohosts and hosts always seem to do really well in tournaments. It seems to me like the Wanderers have a lot of their gusto with Möller and Mor gone from the squad, the players that have followed up just have not been of the same caliber. At least that is how it seems."

"Well, that might be true to a certain extent but you also have to take into consideration the teams that the Wanderers had to face in those two games, both times they were playing against the holders of the tournament despite having won their group. It certainly puts a different light on the matches when you are facing the best team in the world in just the first knockout round two tournaments in a row. So while it is quite disappointing that they have failed to progress deep into those World Cups, the circumstances have been quite extraordinary, though not winning the Copa while it was played on the home ground is more troublesome matter. All of it combined is why the PFA likely decided to change managers between the end of the World Cup and now."

"Speaking about that, do you really think that Tobias Möller was ready for the national team manager job? I mean he has done a pretty decent job with Hellinic Rouge in the SuperLiga, that is for sure, but they have not really challenged for the title despite the good job that he has been doing. Add on to the fact that he has no experience managing at the international level in any capacity, I have to wonder if when push comes to shove if he will have the wherewithal to be able to guide the side through those rough patches. I mean, it was good but not great managers who could not keep the Wanderers consistent the reason why they took nearly forty years to become a true power in the footballing community when most teams seem to do it in half the time or less."

"Well Möller has one thing that many of those managers lacked when trying to guide the Wanderers to being among the best squads in the world, and that is the experience in playing in the biggest matches both domestically and for the national team. That experience in playing in multiple World Cup Finals is something that I think is an adequate attribute for the lack of not being an assistant for the national team before or perhaps managing the Under-21 side. He experienced the pressures and rigors of the international game first hand with his nearly a hundred caps and he is the record holder for goals in the Pasargan kit with fifty-three. All that playing experience will serve him well and let him understand his group of players quite well.

You also have to remember that Pasargan football as a whole is in a far better state than it has been in awhile, even if there has been a slight dip of results in the national team. The fact that they made multiple appearances in the Final of both the World Cup and Copa Rushmori says that the skill level of the national team has increased dramatically and the SuperLiga is now one of the most respected leagues in all of Rushmore while also getting a better reputation around the World. Pasargans are playing all over the world, some of them in the best clubs among the best leagues in the world. Möller already lead the Wanderers to a comfortable win in their opening match in the Copa Rushmori and so long as he manages to get at least a draw against Electrum, then the Wanderers should be winning their group. He and this group of players, that includes the entire national pool, can and are most likely going to overcome this blip and be right among the contenders come two years time in the next World Cup, though winning this Copa first would definitely be a huge boost in morale."

STAFF
Manager: Bernard Aristi, 43
A quiet, humble and important member of the national team setup since World Cup 60, Aristi was one of the national coaches of the national and youth teams while also being in charge of the first team training at Primero Liga side, Balmope Betis, the winners of Season 14. Despite that he was rarely featured by the media as he preferred to be low key throughout his coaching career. That did not stop the Mapletish Sports Federation to catch up with him though, as he was offered the managerial position for the national team. Aristi not only took up the managerial role but he has also volunteered to take charge of the youth teams as well and is keen to get his system in place right from the youths up as he is the first national team manager to take charge of the youth teams as well. His venture into international management went well though, in the Under 15 World Cup 9, he led the Under 15 side to a respectable semi-final finish as they failed to beat Abanhleft. One U15 World Cup under his belt, a failed qualification for the World Cup, a subsequent exit at the Cup of Harmony group stage.

PLAYERS: - Starting Eleven
#1 - GK - Kazimir Petya - Age 31 - Home United
Nicknamed the "Giant from the North", Petya won the confidence vote by Aurelio as he nominated the Primero Liga Season XIV best shot stopper into his squad. Conceding only ten goals in the season, he went 2,880 minutes without a goal conceded, one of the best goalkeeping records held in the Primero Liga, playing an important part in Home United's race towards the top. The number one jersey is now awarded to Petya. Despite his best efforts in the World Cup qualifying, the Dragons failed to keep their goals against count low, with another shot at the Cup of Harmony, all eyes are on Petya to lead the defence, following a successful Copa Rushmori showing. A hard worker who works to improve all aspects of his game, he has only one big weakness - not knowing when to stop improving.

#2- RB - Georg Ivar - Age 29 - Club Atletico
Having never been in the national team set up before, a call up to the Lions' squad was what least expected for Ivar. An experienced defender with crazily fast speed, aggression, fearlessness and high work rate, it is not hard to see why he would not be an important player of the defence for Mapletish. Helping at the wings is also expected from Ivar, an area where he takes command as well as his defensive roles. His strength on the ball, in the air and against an opposition player is also what sets him aside from any of the right backs to ever wear the #2 jersey. Fine performances from Ivar is highly anticipated.

#3 - CB - Orla Fritjof - Age 31 - Golden Phoenix - Vice-Captain
Being a central member of the defence was not easily filled by any player and the Lions has always struggled to fill this gap in awhile. Many of the nation's best central defenders retired awhile back or were not as prominent as they were before. Age, injuries and time caught up to them fast and slowly they were all replaced with make-shift defensive chess pieces that are rotated around, a solid rear end became increasingly hard to unearth. Fortunately for Aristi, he could count on the tough defender, Fritjof, who brings with him his willingness to contribute towards all aspects of team play. Keeping a relatively low profile, this quiet, humble and professional defender can play an instrumental role in helping Team Mapletish back up.

#4- CB - O' Vincent Rye - Age 28 - Celtics Rovers
No one knew him, no one appreciated him, no one noticed him or took a glance at him. The most average of the average, Rye had never been prioritized, loved or appreciated, that shaped his fearless, unfeeling, cold and dark personality. Never been on route to playing football, Rye started off his adulthood as a cold blooded sniper in the Army before being dismissed from duty after he went AWOL and killed a prominent armed rebel group's chief. He was never charged in court for the murder. Starting off at the bottom of the footballing pyramid with SC Haynes before he got the attention of top flight team Celtics Rovers and he had never looked back since. An incredibly hardworking player in defence, he can be counted on to be right where he is needed. A dangerous man indeed.

#5 - LB - Alessendra Vito - Age 37 - Balmope Betis - CAPTAIN
The heart of the defence for both club and country, a well known and trusted player of the whole nation. The most experienced player on the defence and his reign in defence was last tested multiversally in the World Cup 67 qualifying stages. Never has one man proven his worth throughout his career and not recognised by the national managers taking Mapletish throughout his playing career. Vito was an instrumental man in defence for Betis as he led Betis to their first league title and also leading them through 26 games unbeaten. His enthusiasm, athleticism, adaptability and true old leadership and experience will certainly serve the team well as the nation looks to become their best again. Caps were never an issue for him as he started off his multiverse career late but the quality of his caps will certainly lead the way as Vito still has much much more to give back to the country that he so yearned for wanted to represent.

#6 - DM - Aleksander Gustav - Age 27 - Golden Eagles
Physically strong, fit and tough, Gustav did not set out to be a footballer earlier on in his sporting career. He was a sportsman, an athlete, someone who is just average. He wanted to play all the sports he can, don on the Maplish jersey and represented the country in the Olympics. He was no stranger to crazy work schedules and he matched them with a crazy equivalent, a work ethic to push him hard. Gustav made the switch to football at the age of 23, roughly just four years ago and started off at Liga One before working his way up and securing a contract with Golden Eagles. With his versatility, he is willing to fill in wherever he can, whether is it an empty spot in the defence or a spot at the wings or a spot at the top of the pitch or even being put in goal, he is willing to give it his all. His work paid off and he is called up to gain more exposure on the multiverse stage as he works towards helping the Lions qualify for the World Cup again.

#7 - RCM - Di Natile - Age 35 - Golden Phoenix
A consistent player throughout his career, the former U21 captain who is still as inspiring now as he was back in his prime will have to settle for a back up role back at his own club but started featuring regularly after Golden Phoenix fell short of quality midfielders as they struggled to bring in talent for the midfield engine room while their youth players sign professional contracts with other Primero Liga clubs leaving Golden Phoenix in a midfield crisis. The composed 35 year old now led his team to a respectable 5th place finish just outside of the Globe Cup qualification spots and behind arch rivals Golden Eagles and Home United.

#8 - LCM - Kimberly Aurora - Age 31 - New Portland Rovers ♀
One of the best female players in the country and is still the best after a period of absence in the multiverse football scene. An all round attacking player, she was molded into a midfield role by Kristin Janette, the former national manager for Mapletish. Fast and agile on the run, Kimberly has great stamina and endurance making her one of the fittest players in Janette's Mapletish set up. Age might have caught up with her a little but she still has the confidence that made her one of the most fearsome players ever to grace the pitches of Maplish female football.

#9 - RAM - Enkainia Lee - Age 32 - New Portland Rovers ♀
A talented quick and all rounded player to start with, she was first introduced to the team under the second reign of Muain Newtons. A reincarnation of Maria Sarah, the legendary female footballer from Mapletish, she was an important member of the Lions' squad from World Cup 62 then. As age caught up with her as well, she still managed to spot a strong presence in New Portland Rovers and in the ladies' team as she continues to terrorize defences in the Women's Primero Liga and playing her best before she hangs up her boots in the future.

#10 - LAM - Josef Gai - Age 22 - Home United
A powerful left foot and a superb eye for a brilliant goal and assist was what gave him a call up to the starting line up of the Lions' set up at just twenty-two, but age is no indicator of skill or brilliance as Piero Aurelio certainly as somewhat incredible selections to his squad. La Academica has always been the nation's finest producers of youth talent and it didn't disappoint with Gai being their golden kid. Influential in the youth national side, a series of impressive performances cemented his spot in the club and now he finds himself under the watchful eye of Bernard Artisi and called up by the caretaker Aurelio who led the team for the 24th Copa Rushmori. He might not be the best in multiverse anytime soon but he will be Maplish's finest given more time to sharpen his skills.

#11 - ST - Alero Junio - Age 36 - Facrabendo Kings
He used to be the man, the tailsmanic player who single handedly took on defences and one of the most feared players in the Lions' set up but that was years ago when it was his prime. The former front man of the pack, goal poacher, main target man, playing down on the left, right or in the centre, he was always up to task, with an incredible eye on goal and a killber ball control. A veteran now, he decided to go for a quieter life as he went to the Conferencio and Sunday Leagues to play. Life is not all as quiet now as his team Facrabendo Kings got their promotion from the Conferencio. The former captain finds himself in the squad to guide the younger players and to rebuild Maplish football.

PLAYERS: - Bench

#12 - GK - Ben Toon - Age 18 - SC Galatasaray
When you need someone to warm your bench, you have got Ben Toon, the star bench warmer. A former gymnast, and an aspiring number one for SC Galatasaray, Toon has shown that he has got great hands on the ball as he looks set to step up his game steadily with his imposing goalkeeping and impressive worth ethics and discipline developed from his 14 years of gymnastic experience.

#13 - GK - Gasper Shaw - Age 19 - Pittsburgh Warriors
A prominent member for the Under 21's team, Shaw has shown impressive performances in his goalkeeping displays and has yet to be eliminated in the race to be the number one for the Maplish squad. With so many years of experience up for grabs and many more opportunities to be a better goalkeeper, he and Toon will sit on the bench and learn from his senior.

#14 - CB - Marnix Bert - Age 22 - Heywood City
One of the players who is giving Heywood City fans something to cheer about for the future, hopes are high for Bert to tap on his potential and be a long term member of the Lions' squad. A tough tackler and is crucial to Heywood's leaky defence, a typical tough defender who the Lions has always lacked, Bert is an exciting prospect to be molded into an important chess piece in defence.

#15 - CB - Neringf Judocus - Age 23 - Moonchester United
Aurelio certainly has an eye for the toughest defenders in the Primero Liga. Judocus might not have a team that is great in the offence and his efforts might not be evident in Moonchester United's disastrous goal scored to goals conceded ratio but the performances from Judocus has helped reduced that damage. A defender who looks to dispossess his opponents actively, he has huge rooms for improvement as he sees himself as a deeper lying defender or libero.

#16 - CM - Diego Alvarez - Age 33 - Lumburg CV
An active bench warmer since he was called up to the national team, Alvarez does what he does best and he is seen as an ultimate player who can come off the bench and help turn the tide of the game around as one of the most technically gifted players in the team. Known for his excellent distribution of the ball, this quiet individual can always be seen practicing alone and let his feet do the talking. His complacency however affects his game and he has struggled to manage that aspect throughout his career.

#17 - CM - Garic Jansen - Age 23 - Rosville Sunday League
A prominent player in Sunday League football, Jansen will be the first player to be called up to the national team from the Sunday League, as a complete amateur player in the game, the selection of Jansen came as a complete surprise as Jansen refused moves to the professional league system as he peruses his career as a teacher at a local secondary school in Rosville. A keen midfielder in the engine room, his never ending bursts of energy helped him be a very physically imposing player on the midfield as he seeks to prove himself, but the Sunday League would be too small of an arena for him to perform in as he has already outgrown it.

#18 - ST - Krisztian Boni - Age 21 - Versatio Giants
The striker position might not be Boni's natural position in play but he has proven to be a deadly and accurate striker with the ball. He is seen as a striker who the Lions has struggled to find to replace Alero Junio who will retire soon. A hardworking player, his quiet nature meant that he might not be able to fit in the striker role for the Lions as communication is key in Aristi's attacking trio but Boni's capability and adaptability to the game was what sets him aside from his introverted nature.

#19 - ST - Zsiga Szilveszter - Age 19 - Home United
It is not everyday you see a basketballer in your a football team but Zsiga Szilveszter is a basketballer for Home United's MNBA team. A physically imposing shooting guard, Szilveszter switched over to football after an incident broke his wrist, the recurring injury failed to recover fully and Szilveszter made the switch to using his feet to express himself. His talent, creativity and hard work helped him made the smooth transition to football and he has never looked back since.

TACTICS: 4-3-3, Simplicity is Bliss

The 4-3-3 by Aristi is an example of simple football advocated by Aristi for the younger players to the more senior players. The presence of this 4-3-3 involves the versatility of the players in the midfield, where the attacking midfielders can move up front for the attack or track back down on the defence to form a triangular midfielder for a 4-4-2 or a flat 4-5-1. Utilisation of the wings are the jobs of the left and right back while the central midfielders are also encouraged to venture out on the wings to provide for more attacking opportunities and team plays for the attacking third. Simple, efficient and fast - The Aristi 4-3-3

SanLeagueRank

Numbers 80-71:

80. Jan Johannes Gerzonkenboot
| Nationality: Image Audioslavia | Club: Chell SC | Position: CDM | Composite Rating: 6.35 |
Jan Johannes Gerzonkenboot played in the San League until the ripe old age of 41, before finally deciding to hang up his cleats after last season. The defensive midfielder never had much pace, or endurance for that matter, but was skilled in tactically fouling the opposition and pulling out the occasional defense-splitting pass. He was a key part to several Globe Cup Chell SC teams.

79. Josep Maria Taix
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Amici Llano | Position: CM | Composite Rating: 6.35 |
A lifer for Amici Llano, Josep Maria Taix does what is asked of him in central midfield and little more. He is the type of player to appear in low-budget commercials for local pupusa joints, good enough to be known but not to warrant a massive price tag on an appearance.

78. Israel Casabando
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Cremando Llera | Position: CB | Composite Rating: 6.36 |
Israel Casabando, if not a superstar, is an integral piece to Cremando Llera's excellent defense. The center back is disciplined, always positioned well, and strong in the air. After warranting a lot of interest from big clubs in his youth, Casabando stayed loyal to Verd Mar, and while he hasn't turned into the national team center back some expected him to be, he's made a solid career for himself in the San League.

77. Yuri Makarov
| Nationality: Image Estenia | Club: Patria Poble | Position: ST | Composite Rating: 6.39 |
A large Estenian forward, Makarov recently moved to Patria Poble from Cassandra City in Cosumar and has emerged as a very solid option at forward. He does have a propensity to use his physicality a bit too much, and has kicked and stomped on defenders several times in his San League career, earning three red cards in one season. When on the pitch, however, he is an excellent hold-up man and has the brute strength to score 10-15 goals a season.

76. Aleix Pedrosa
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Porta Llora | Position: CB | Composite Rating: 6.42 |
Pedrosa is a veteran of the Di Bradini Cup, and while he could never quite cut it on the full national team, he's an above average domestic center back. While the 28-year-old is not as good in the air as one at his position is expected to be, he's a very sound 1-on-1 defender. In addition, he was one of the league's leaders in blocked shots last season.

75. Ignasi Serra
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Camp Pende | Position: CB | Composite Rating: 6.50 |
Ignasi Serra is one of very few center backs known for his scoring. A striker in his youth, Serra still as some of that nose for goal, and scored six times last season, all on corner kicks. On the defensive end, he's a commanding presence in the air, but otherwise cannot hold together a very loose Camp Pende defense.

74. Morielos
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Porta Llora | Position: CAM | Composite Rating: 6.50 |
Porta Llora's attacking midfielder Morielos is, if nothing else, fearless, constantly running at and taking on defenders. This has led to some impressive individual goals, and he has acted as a sparkplug when his team has been struggling offensively, but the former child actor has also been criticized for his selfishness. Regardless, neutrals love him, and he is a fun watch.

73. Carles Susa
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: San Llera University of Physiology Soccer | Position: CB | Composite Rating: 6.54 |
Carles Susa is a tall, lanky center back, and the best defender for a SLUP Soccer team that gave up just 30 goals last season. Granted, that is mostly due to Johann Van Zanten's heroics, but Susa had his moments, specifically in the relegation playoff against Associat Tureau, in which Susa cleared a potential goal off the line in both legs en route to a 1-0 SLUP aggregate victory

72. Octavio Bens
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Cremando Llera | Position: ST | Composite Rating: 6.55 |
The second of three Bens brothers on this list, Octavio is arguably the best finisher of the trio, and is by far the thinnest. Fans fondly remember him for his two long range goals in the final ten minutes several years back against Pantans. Bens is a very two-footed player, and part of what makes him so dangerous is his powerful shot on either.

71. Ricard Penn
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Amici Llano | Position: ST | Composite Rating: 6.57 |
Ricard Penn broke out onto the scene during the third season of San League Soccer with a 13-goal campaign, and hasn't looked back. Standing at 6'6", he is a nightmare to defend on set pieces, and also has enough technical skill to be potent with the ball at his feet. Off the pitch, Penn is known for his gruff voice.
There are many places, and one such place is Rushmore.

Head Coach

Minthârtar Nelésian (Valanora)
Had a short spell in caretaker charge of his homeland during the last World Cup, before being overlooked for the permanent position in favour of some Polarian. Known as something of a disciplinarian. The big changes in personnel and tactics saw disjointed performances at the Copa Rushmori but recent training camps have been encouraging.

Backroom Staff

Assistant Head Coach: Alejandro Echeverría
Defensive Coach: Matías Cardozo
Attacking Coach: Luís Ángel Landín
Goalkeeping Coach: Cristian Deballa
Fitness Coach: Sergio Castellanos
Technical Coordinator: Rodrigo Defederico
Team Doctor: Dr Iván Morelli

Talent

GK: 1. Dario Almirón (24) – Ciudad Soluca
Kept a league record number of clean sheets in Ciudad’s run to the domestic title, prompting comparisons with former great Martín Tejera.
GK: 13. Rafael Molino (35) – Estrella Torreón
A rare survivor from the last World Cup squad, adds vital experience to an otherwise novice national side.
GK: 25. Raul Balbuena (27) – Dunas Del Sol
A regular in the Dunas goal at the age of just 19, big things were expected of that young shot stopper and he’s largely delivered on that promise as the years have gone by.

DR: 2. Marco Gamboa (21) – Ciudad Soluca
Initially deployed as a winger during his early days at San Marquez’s ‘El Academica’ but has gradually been pushed back by Ciudad’s coaching staff. Now an effective fallback, but one who has never been able to curb that attacking spirit.
DRC: 5. Álvaro Duarte (24) – Ciudad Soluca
Plucked from the dusty streets of the Rainbow City slum and turned into an excellent football in Ciudad’s Academy . A solid defender with an excellent reading of the game. Equally adept at centreback or fallback.
DC: 6. Sebastían Pérez (22) – El Nacional
A classy, ball-playing centreback in the classical Gozan model. Ayala has both pace and poise, a combination that has made the coaching staff at the Independiente very excited indeed.
DL: 3. Jaime Urruti (30) – Sportivo Soluca
Quick, skilful and possessing a wand of a left foot, the fallback is another player with past World Cup experience. Had a meteoric rise from plying his trade in the fourth tier to staring in the SuperLiga.
DLC: 12. Antonio Arias (28) – Ciudad Soluca
Plucked from the Academy of arch-rivals Sportivo, Ciudad’s scouts allowed themselves a smug smile as the defender blossomed into a top performer. Naturally left footed, Caro provides a handy option to balance out Nelésian’s favoured three man defence.
DRC: 14. Óscar Riveros (24) – Alianza Jucaro
A right back by trade who often gets shoved into the centre during Alianza coach Landín’s numerous tactical switches. In excellent form in the SuperLiga and the appointment of his club coach to the national team staff hasn’t exactly hurt his changes.
DL: 19. Arturo Erazo (25) – Petro Mercada
Captaining Petro to a highly impressive fifth place finish has helped edge the fallback into the national team reckoning.
DC: 21: Daniel Torres (26) – Alianza Jucaro
Another amazing find from the lower leagues who has made a rapid rise to the top. Of course, at 6’ 6” Camargo was closer to the top than most. A beast at the heart of the Alianza defence and a real danger from set pieces.

MC: 4. Eduardo Larrea (26) – Ciudad Soluca
A midfielder with tremendous lung capacity. His box-to-box runs were a key part of Dunas Del Sol’s excellent domestic form before he was snatched up by the club from the capital.
AMR: 7. Gastón Suárez (24) – El Nacional
A converted fallback who led the assist table for much of last season.
MC: 8. Alejandro Vecino (23) – Sporting San Marquez
The youth setup at the Estadio Silva has a long history of unearthing gems and the unquestionable cream of the crop and subject of this rather laboured metaphor is Vecino. Sporting may have struggled last season but Vecino still shone through.
AML: 11. Federico Ríos (30) – Dínamo Maturín
It’s entirely possible that Federico could have represented Sargossa at the Olympic 100m, such is the pace hidden away in his diminutive frame. A real terror for opposition fallbacks, although a consistent delivery shy of being genuinely world class.
AMRC: 15. Flavio Hernández (32) – El Nacional
A tireless attacking midfielder whose impressive work rate and never say die attitude make him a firm favourite among Gozans and neutrals alike.
MC: 16. José Giménez (31) – Porto Alegro Azul
Midfield playmaker with a prestigious range of passing. Giménez stood out in a fairly average Porto Alegro Azul side that consistently punched above its weight.
DMC: 18. Dani Rosales (32) – Sportivo Soluca
Vastly experienced midfielder battler in the vein as those previous anchor-men produced by our mighty archipelago. Prone to nosebleeds if he crosses the halfway line.
DMC: 22. Roberto Victorino (25) – Ciudad Soluca
Another of those midfield battlers we seem so keen on developing. But unlike some of his illustrious predecessors Devesa also possesses excellent technical abilities, a wide range of passing and isn’t prone to feeling all feint if he stumbles into the opposition half.
AMLC: 24. Julio Cuesta (28) – Dínamo Maturín
A top assist provider in the domestic league and one dangerous crosser of a football. Dínamo have been fighting of suitors for the midfielder for years.

FC: 9. Juan Pablo Guerra (24) – Ciudad Soluca
Yet another gem unearthed from the barrios of San Marquez and polished by ‘El Academia’ before being snapped up by Ciudad. Has an uncanny knack of being in the right place and the right time and has proved a scourge of SuperLiga defences because of it.
FC: 10. Víctor Martínez (30) – Ciudad Soluca
At 6’5” the Ciudad targetman forms a big man, slightly littler man partnership with Guerra. A partnership set to be reformed for the national side.
FC: 17. Raúl Saavedra (26) – Alianza Jucaro
Chalked up goals galore in the Segunda Liga before being given his top flight chance by Alianza. Hasn’t looked back since.
FRC: 20. José Arroyo (23) – Sporting San Marquez
Big things were expected of a forward who caught the attention with a seventy four goal season for one of Sporting’s many youth teams. Often used as an attacking midfielder at club level.
FL: 23. Jaime Escobar (28) – El Nacional
An out-and-out winger who offers pure pace down the flank. Capable of tying opposition defenders up in knots but often lacking composure in the final third.

Style
An evolving system that starts as a 5-3-2 but can morph into a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 depending on the situation. Probable starting eleven, listed from left to right.
Almirón -- Urruti - Arias - Pérez (c) - Duarte - Gamboa -- Larrea - Victorino - Vecino -- Guerra - Martínez
Style Modifier = (+2)

Schedule

Big matches are hosted in our rather fancy Nethertopian built 108,879 capacity Estadio Generalissimo Joaquín Delgado in the Sargossan capital of Soluca.

Minnows grab humbling win against Norrehavn 1-0

The Minnows had to work for their victory but the win was sufficient to move them into the qualification spots for the Round of 16. Group leaders San Llera beat Pridnestrovia 5-2 to move to the top of the group on goal difference. A goal from substitute Zsiga Szilveszter sealed the game for the Minnows. The game was a quiet encounter from the start but it was the Minnows who was the better team. Managing just 3 shots on goal in the first 30 minutes of the game, it was destinated to be a game of the midfield right from the start. Playing crisp and quick passes around the midfield, Josef Gai and Enkainia Lee fell back to the midfield to join in the possession based fury that was building up. The Minnow's first shot on goal was a result of teamwork at its finest.

Relieving the ball back to Petya for redistribution in the 14th minute, Petya opted for a high ball towards Alesssendra Vito who relayed it to Aleksander Gustav. Controlling the ball with his left foot he searched for the on running Georg Ivar from the right wing. Releasing a steady cross towards Ivar with his favoured right foot, Ivar executed a clean touch and relayed it straight towards Di Natile standing between the lines of the defending team. Di Natile then took on the defence head on before releasing the ball towards the left hand side of the box to Gai who sprung out behind Player #2 and got his foot on the ball before placing a shot towards Norrehavn's shot stopper. It was promptly parried away and Player #3 got to the ball and made a neat clearance to the Maplish half of the field, concluding the neatest and most exciting display of offensive prowess in the entire game itself.

Teamwork was obviously not the consideration for Norrehavn, as Player #9 was the man to watch. He took on the Maplish defence one on one as he took the ball round Orla Fritjof who was wrong footed and almost fell. He then took on Petya and rounded him before sending a less than accurate shot on goal but it went agonizing and surprisingly wide of the empty goal. The exchange of shots continued as Gai faced Player #1 again who blocked his stingy shot with his thighs.

Alessendra Vito was forced to limped off the pitch early on in the second half, with Marnix Bert coming on shortly before Szilveszter was introduced by Aristi in place of Enkainia Lee, with the decision to withdraw the midfielder not so well received by the travelling fans but they nonetheless gave Enkainia an applause as she stepped off the pitch. However the move proved to be inspired as Szilveszter put Mapletish in front just 188 seconds after his arrival. Di Natile's cross was head down by Junio and the youngster swiveled to drive his finish into the bottom corner.

Mapletish's claims for handball in the penalty area against Player #6 was later ignored, while Bert made a crucial challenge to deny substitute Player #14 at the other hand. Junio then shot straight at Player #1 who then made a superb diving stop to keep out Di Natile on poaching on the loose ball as the Minnows claimed a one goal win to welcome their third and last group stage game as they warm up and maintain their momentum for their Round of 16 clash as they looked to improve their second place finish from the 24th Copa Rushmori.

RUSHMORI UNION TALKS STALL AS KERS MAKE LAST SIXTEEN ON RETURN TO COPA

Kernansquillec's relations with its Rushmori neighbours have had a rough ride over the pasts years. The exclusion of Kernansquillec from the 14th Copa Rushmori, in line with the UICA and WCC's bans, had been seen by many as a blow to Kernansquillec. But relations appear to be warming as the Kernansquillecan government is understood to be keen on ensuring the creation of a Rushmori Union to further economic and social ties with the region. Government officials are currently in Electrum negotiating, a country where relations turned frosty following antics between athletes at the Olympic Games in Aeropag.

Talks are believed to be progressing slowly, but issues remain over a potential currency union and many question remain unanswered, namely regarding the location of the Union's Parliament. Many nations are expected to try and convince their fellow delegates to allow them to host the institution. Fears have also been raised about the talks being hijacked by overly-liberal nations who have a certain dislike for controlled economies such as Kernansquillec.

Meanwhile, in a field of diplomacy Kernansquillecans are much more familiar with, the national football team secured qualification for the last sixteen of the Copa Rushmori, on their return to the tournament with a game to spare. A 2-0 win over Darmen thanks to goals from De Luca (24') and Ó Fionnagáin (40'). Julia Gosse was in fine form to keep her first clean sheet as the national team's goalkeeper. A very tough tie against one of the top seeds Valladares now awaits the Green and Whites to decide who tops the group. With goal difference going against them, the Kers would need a win. No matter the result, Kernansquillec can relax knowing their place is secure. They would face either San Llera or Mapletish in their last sixteen tie should they finish second, but victory could see a dreaded tie against Pasarga, the team that have knock Kernansquillec out of most of their recent tournaments.

"Why do you believe that the Rushmori Union talks have failed to produce anything substantial as of yet when there was such a large amount of excitement and optimism heading into the beginning of the talks?" The reporter for the Torgos Tribune said, sitting across from King Jakub in the Majistar palace in the heart of Torgos. It was a rare treat to interview the leader of the dual islands, as the twenty-three year old was a bit cagey when it came to engaging with the media, though his adopted mother had been much the same way in the early years of her reign. It had only been towards the end of her reign when he had become comfortable in rulership and how her decisions lead to either the prosperity or determent of her people. That the King was granting an audience at all and over such a vital issue as the idea of a Rushmori Union was quite a boon for the nation's leader news publisher.

"I believe that many nations and their leaders are in high opinion about the idea of a Union and what benefits that it might bring to not just their nations but the region as a whole. However the practicality of the agreement as well as its reach and how it might affect ones economy and sovereignty is certainly a concern that is worth giving pause and taking ones time when evaluating whether to enter such an arrangement. For ourselves, there are too many nations whose economies are quite poor and not having the sort of investment or development one would hope to be seeing before tethering ones own fortune to them. It creates an uneven burden on those who are still developing and doing so well, such as ours with the help of our friends in Eura, or who already have a solid economy. Now there are some who are willing to support said nations but to ask that of everyone would be quite an overreach."

"So this comes down to economics then rather than any real political concerns, such as that of what might be considered an uninvested army that could be formed as a result of this Union? It would seem to me and I am sure many of the readers that this rogue military party would be something of a major concern, answering only to delegates who might have their own agenda. The militant nations of the region could easily manipulate this secondary force into their own bidding with the right prodding and bribing, in theory."

Jakub nodded to the reporter and leaned forward, his hands holding up his chin as he spoke. "This is a multi faceted issue and that is an excellent point as to why we are so cautious about even thinking about entering such an arrangement. The economics alone have made us wary and there are far more matters that would be resolved when it comes to representation and the extent of the powers of this union. Suffice to say, right now Pasarga is content to be an observer and rely on our allies in Eura while the rest of the region tries to make sense of what they desire out of such an arrangement. Then, if it is in the best interest of Pasarga, we might sit at the table and decide to enter the union, but the conditions would have to be right. Then and only then may you see such an action.

SanLeagueRank

Welcome back. Today is 70-61, with a right-side-of-the-pitch theme.

70. Marco Capo
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Chell SC | Position: RB | Composite Rating: 6.65 |
With seven national team caps, Marco Capo has for the past decade been a very solid San League Soccer player, but never able to make the leap a national team regular. His positional awareness is very sharp, but he never had the physical tools - the speed down the flank nor the height and strength to win balls in the air - to ever become an elite fullback.

69. Marcelo Pla
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Selvadores | Position: GK | Composite Rating: 6.66 |
A product of the San Llera University of Chemistry, Pla never really established himself as an able goalkeeper until joining Selvadores and assisting in their promotion. Thanks in part to his keeping, the aptly nicknamed Selvadores managed to stay out of the bottom of the league, and then Pla let in just one goal over two legs against his former club to win the promotion/relegation playoff.

68. Guillermo Olivera
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Llara Llera | Position: RB/W | Composite Rating: 6.72 |
While regarded as one of the weak links in the lineup, Guillermo Olivera is a starter for Llara Llera, and has three titles to his name from his time there. Another former youth national teamer and Di Bradini Cup veteran, Olivera possesses blazing speed, and has improved his technical skill over the years. His speed can often make up for his defensive shortcomings, but next year he will be deployed on the wing. How he performs remains to be seen.

67. Marc Cinturon
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: San Llera University of Agriculture Soccer | Position: RW | Composite Rating: 7.16 |
Marc Cinturon has taken advantage of the very lax eligibility rules more than anyone, having gone to college for the entirety of San League Soccer (and, due to new regulations, can now get paid). In that time, he has emerged from a key piece in an abysmal SLUA team to a key piece in a much-improved squad. Unfortunately, they have still been relegated to the Division Segon, where Cinturon will take his first division-levels of crossing and shooting ability.

66. Varo Noger
| Nationality: Image Ceni | Club: Porta Llora | Position: RB | Composite Rating: 7.19 |
The only current San League player to hail from Ceni, Varo Noger has represented his country well, with his intelligence and passing ability. His perfectly timed 70-yard assist to Deric Porla on Matchday 20 was one of the plays of the season. In addition, he's emerged as a vocal leader on a team that looked at times devoid of leadership.

65. Cirino Rey
| Nationality: Image Sarrbia | Club: Llara Llera | Position: RM | Composite Rating: 7.28 |
Cirino Rey's fourth season in San League Soccer was his last, but it was a productive stint in the league for the Sarrbian national teamer. He was reportedly a great veteran locker room presence, and of course, his play on the pitch was very solid. Rey is technically very sound and an excellent passer, as well as capable of scoring on set pieces

64. Conrad Novello
| Nationality: Image San Llera | Club: Pantans | Position: RW | Composite Rating: 7.29 |
Veteran of two Di Bradini Cups, Conrad Novello never really established himself at one position until late in his career, playing at both fullbacks, in the center, and even as a striker. He's played right wing now for the past few seasons at Pantans, and has worked hard if not produced anything magical. His versatility still may come in handy.

63. Ian Long
| Nationality: Image Schottia | Club: Llerana SC | Position: DM | Composite Rating: 7.29 |
Ian Long, a product of the Schottic youth system, has developed into the type of bashing defensive midfielder that the San Leahue accommodates. A fan favorite for Llerana SC, Long is public enemy no. 1 for other fan bases who do not easily forget his season-ending tackles on the likes of Pandazi Papadopoulos and Guifre Gil.

62. Adam Stones
| Nationality: Image Cosumar | Club: Llara Llera | Position: LB | Composite Rating: 7.30 |
Joining Llara Llera three years ago from Nomad Brotherhood FC, Stones has made a spot in Los Pocs Eligits' startling lineup his, and performed well in three title races. The first half of last season was Stones' best stretch, shutting down the opposition's right side attack. The second half, however, was marred by some knacks and poorer play. Now fully healthy, we'll see what form he returns to next season.

61. Nesê Dôrstâm
| Nationality: Image Lons | Club: Patria Poble | Position: RB | Composite Rating: 7.33 |
The Lonish Nesê Dôrstâm was a valuable piece in the attack for Patria Poble in the club's best season yet, constantly overlapping and putting in crosses, an art he seemed to perfect as the year went on. Defensively, he is a bit of a liability for manager Matias Pedrosa.
There are many places, and one such place is Rushmore.
