Rowing Basics and Terminology
Rowing is a sport which many have heard of but few really know much about. The long list of specific rowing vocabulary can be confusing to newcomers. I’ll try to provide a brief run-through of the relevant terms for this tournament.

What many people don’t realize is that there are different types of boats. Probably the signature type of boat is the “8 man boat” or the “8+” which has eight rowers and a coxswain. The coxswain is the guy or gal who does not row, but actually faces the other direction, and steers the rowers while yelling at them to pull harder.

Another type of boat is the “single scull” or the “1x” in which there is only one rower. There is no coxswain for this event, the rower must steer themselves using either pressure on the oars or a small rudder in the shoes. How do they steer while facing backwards, you may ask? They must look at the lane markers around them to make sure they keep their point.

I’ll run through a quick glossary of the rest of the terms: a rowing race is called a “regatta,” you row in boats called either “shells” or “hulls,” you row an oar which has a “shaft” and a “blade” at the end, and you lever it through the water using the “riggers” on either side of the boat. In rowing you face the “stern” with your back to “bow,” so you end up racing backwards…. What’s irritating is that, as a rower, this means “starboard” (right) is actually on your left and “port” (left) is actually on your right. Confused yet?

Image

The front part of the rowing stroke, extending out over the stern and placing the blade in the water, is called the “catch,” the back part of the stroke, where you release the blade, is called the “finish.” And if you mess up and your oar gets stuck in the water and you flip, that’s called “catching a crab.”

Image

History of the Event
The royal regatta on the Zesna has been run in some form or another for the past 148 years - from the times of wooden boats to today’s era of sleek, carbon-fiber hulls. While the format of the event has often changed over the years, the key idea has not – two boats go head to head, one advances, and one is eliminated.

Image

Originally, only two boats would ever compete in the tournament, the boat of “Kingsmen” and the boat of “Clergymen.” This duel was expanded just over a century ago to include more entries as rowing got more popular. Eventually, it became a tournament for clubs and colleges to go head to head. This year’s iteration, however, will be the first time where foreign entries are invited to compete.

The main event, the eights race, has now been renamed the “Esportivan Grand Challenge Cup,” in recognition of the region of Esportiva and its importance to the Swiss sporting community. Several of the other trophies also have underwent name changes in the past few years, the “Aten Armansson Gold Plate,” for instance, was named in honor of the gold-medal winning sculler in the IX Olympics.

The regatta has always been held on the peaceful and scenic Zesna river, not far from the Swiss town of Lusavik. Competitors are invited to stay either in the town of Lusavik, about a forty minute commute, or in the small village of Grenia-on-the-Zesna, which is right on the banks. Public transportation in the forms of buses or rental vans are available for athletes’ needs, as well as food, water, and other amenities available at tents by the start/finish lines and by the grandstands.

Format of the Event
Racing will be head to head, dual races, over a 2000m distance. There are five different events in the tournament - each one currently accepting foreign entries. Each event will run a bracket of either 8 or 16 boats, with each boat going head to head a la the Royal Henley Regatta in England. Winners will advance, losers are eliminated. The exact schedule is TBD, but I intend to run the event over four days, running a round for per day.

The Esportivan Grand Challenge Cup is the first. There will be sixteen spots open in total – 4 are already set for Swiss teams, and I’m allowing any nation to send up to four of their own teams. If we don’t get up to 16 entries I’ll fill the rest in with middle-tier Swiss teams. The boats in this events are the 8+, meaning they will have 8 rowers and a coxswain.

The Armansson Gold Plate is an event for the single sculls. This means that it is a race of individuals in the 1x, the single scull. Named after Aten Armansson, the gold medal winner at the IX Olympics. Any nation can send up to two rowers for this event.

Image

The van Eaux Ladies’ Plate and the Prince Roewulf 150’s Plate are for women and lightweight rowers, respectively. Lightweight rowers must all weight under 150 lbs. at weigh-in time. Nations can send up to two entries to each of these events.

Last up is the Princess Amelia Cup, for high school/junior rowers. Rowers in this event must be of 18 years of age or younger. Nations can send up to two entries to this event.

Along with the five competitive events, there are also two other trophies which will be given out at the end of the tournament. First, there is the Esportivan Team Points Trophy, a new addition this year, which will go to the national delegation whose teams/individuals score the most points overall, as determined by the following points system:
9 points for winning the Esportivan Grand Challenge Cup
5 points for winning the Armansson Gold Plate
5 points for winning the Ladies’ Plate
3 points for winning the Prince Roewulf 150’s Plate
3 points for winning the Princess Amelia Cup

And finally, we have the du-Lusavik Team Sportsmanship Award, which is given out at the end of the tournament to the team which “demonstrates the exemplary characteristics that define rowing – sportsmanship, respect, passion, and trust.” Perhaps a bit vague, but hey, it’s tradition. (I’ll give it out to the nation which has the best/most consistent RPing).

RP and Scorination
Scorination will be done through xkoranate. The skill modifier will run from 0 to 100, a higher skill obviously means faster times. It won't be exactly scorinated the same way it is in the Olympics - I'm going to scorinate each race twice, divide the time for each race, and then add the two together to essentially average the two results. I'm doing this because it will give me a good way to simulate the times up to 1000m (the halfway mark) as well as the overall race.

This also mean I can add a “style” modifier to the event, running from +1 to -1. It won’t change the overall results at all, it just means that if you have +1 (Aggressive) I will flip the “to halfway” time and “from halfway to end” time so that your faster half is the first half. If you have -1 (Conservative) I will do the opposite, and if you have 0 (Mixed) I will just leave it as is.

Here’s an example of what it will look like. (Team A has a style modifier of +1. Team B has a style modifier of -1).
Overall times
1 Team A 5:25.375
2 Team B 5:29.71

To halfway (1000m)
1 Team A 2:41.91
2 Team B 2:45.41
Halfway to end
1 Team A 2:43.465
2 Team B 2:43.76

In terms of RP and RP bonus, I’m not a hardo about that kind of stuff. Just write a little something between each round, like a news article or rosters or anything of the sort, really, and I’ll give your team the RP bonus. I also don’t mind if you don’t have time to RP or don’t feel like you understand the sport enough – I’d be glad just to see people send teams.

No average modifier or anything, just put down what you feel like for the skill modifier. Keep it within reason. Elite clubs are generally 80-100, as are lower-tier national teams (a 50 ranked national team at the Olympics is probably a 100 here). Strong college entries are decent clubs are probably 50-80, as are U23 national teams or Lightweight national teams. Weaker clubs, college lightweights, or club lightweights are probably in the 0-50 range. Unfairly strong entries like high-ranked national teams are obviously discouraged.

And with that, it looks like sign-ups are closed!

I'll be posting the official schedule now, as well as first round draws (seedings are random). The first day of the event will be Wednesday, July 6th. All RP cutoffs and scorination will occur just after 10:00 p.m. EST (which should be around 2:00 a.m. GMT). I'm also editing the schedule and draw, as well as all results, into the first post, so you don't need to scroll all the way down each time. There will be small RP bonuses for RPing after each round. I understand that people may not be familiar enough with the sport to feel comfortable RPing it - I won't penalize you for RPing non-rowing related things. Any effort is appreciated.

OFFICIAL SCHEDULE
Wednesday, July 6th, Day 1:
Esportivan Grand Challenge Cup: Round of 16
Ármannsson Gold Plate: Round of 8
van Eaux Ladies' Plate: Round of 8

Diamond Challenge (single sculls).
Shocking ending in the fours race!
Great race in the eights, but questionable decision from the umpires.

WET ROWING

Van Eaux Royal Regatta - West-East Timorian teams.

The first international van Eaux Royal Regatta is going to start tomorrow, and in total, eight teams and two individual rowers from West-East Timor are going to participate. Here are the teams in detail and some information about them:

Esportivan Grand Challenge Cup

The Esportivan Grand Challenge Cup is the premier event in the regatta, and three West-East Timorian teams are going to fight for the victory.

New Dili Rowing Club

The prestigious Rowing Club from West-East Timors capital and biggest city is one of the best, and officially the best team in West-East Timor, because it has won the last three West-East Timorian Rowing Championships (WETRC). Here's their roster:

Coxswain: Til Schroffmeyer
Stroke: James Andranavon
7 - Tim MacIsnak
6 - Max Rakanarova
5 - Hans Karanov
4 - Fakarashir Umdakharan
3 - Larkiiä Larkasonen
2 - Walnar Makrana
1 - Malcom Dancor

Their first race will be against: MattijanaLadijoOrenBand (Mattijana)

Janor Boat Club

Nobody knew this Boat Club from the small and irrelevant city of Janor until they surprisingly won the WETRC four years ago. After that they still were good, but they couldn't keep up with New Dili Rowing Club and Baranburg University Rowing Club in the last years.

Coxswain: James McDooningham
Stroke: Antonio DaLanetta
7 - Horatio Vlacic
6 - Hector Orosz
5 - Wessel Adam
4 - Les Tasker
3 - Wladlistaw Brooks
2 - Leonius Parrino
1 - Yannick Kohler

First race against: Gadiryan National Rowing Team (Gadiryan)

Baranburg University Rowing Club

The Baranburg Universitys official Rowing Club is also known as Nr.2 in West-East Timor, because they won the WETRC eight years ago, and did well in the following years, but always got second. Eight times in a row! Always second.

Coxswain: Hewie Pilkvist
Stroke: Fernando Darrell
7 - Barack Crewe
6 - Waldemar Alfredsson
5 - Aibek Hughes
4 - Nasim Zhivkhov
3 - Gordon Araullo
2 - Helder O'Hanagan
1 - Rafaele Harman

First race against: Overglade University Boat Club (Vangaziland)

Van Eaux Ladies' Plate

Two West-East Timorian teams are going to participate in the van Eaux Ladies' Plate, the regatta's competition for female rowers.

New Dili Rowing Club

The successful rowing clubs team for women. They have won the WETRC's womans category two years ago, and count as one of the best West-East Timorian women rowing teams as well.

Coxswain: Andrea Bauer
Stroke: Estelle Agamund
7 - Eunike Strudwig
6 - Damelza Wruck
5 - Blanka Wyman
4 - Cora Wojewodzki
3 - Michaela Leverenz
2 - Elisabeth Pedrotti
1 - Armida Bazzolli

Firs race against:
Janor Rowers

Another rowing club from the small irrelevant city, they won last years WETRC womens category.

Coxswain: Pelagiya Terranova
Stroke: Kasandra Fleming
7 - Hannah Andreasson
6 - Iunia Vela
5 - Aurelie Randrup
4 - Marilyn Hall
3 - Nina Vincent

First race against: New Dili Rowing Club (West-East Timor)

Prince Roewulfs 150's Plate

In this event lightweight rower teams will race each other, only one of them is West- East Timorian, and it is the

Jalpenju Boat Club

This was the first West-East Timorian rowing club ever, and in the first West-East Timorian
rowing competitions, they were unbeatable. But with the years they got worse and worse and had no chance in WETRCs. But as the lightweight category was introduced four years ago, they were the best of the best in this category, what was a big surprise. Nevertheless they've won it four times in a row now, so, every time.

Coxswain: Kai MacKay
Stroke: Burkhardt Karpaty
7 - Gleb Roux
6 - Quin Ahlers
5 - Barakat Acone
4 - Nikolaus Courtenay
3 - Silas Benetton

First race against: Auster Boat Club (Vangaziland)

Princess Amelia Cup

The Pricess Amelia Cup is the U18 category of the regatta. Two West-East Timorian teams are going to participate in it.

New Dili Sports School

The New Dili Sports School is the biggest and most prestigious sports school in West-East Timor. It's where the best athletes of the country are made, from football over Handball, motorsport and 7ball to rowing they teach everything.

Coxswain: Coy Mihaylov
Stroke: Eoghan Reyes
7 - Anish Curran
6 - Yakov Aquino
5 - Osbeorn Barsamian
4 - Roman Amundsen
3 - Fausto Seabrooke

Norgrobi High School Rowing Club

The Norgrobi High School in Norgrobi is a big High School, but nothing special. Nevertheless its rowing club is considered one of the best U18 rowing clubs in West-East Timor.

Coxswain: Fedelmid Adam
Stroke: Bozhidar Markhov
7 - Junipero Szekeres
6 - Román Gardyner
5 - Yevgeni König
4 - Aton Outerridge

2 - Bruno Bergamashi
1 - Artistoteles Saylor

First race against: Prince F. Vang Academy (Vangaziland)

Rowing has a place in Vannish history and culture. At one point in history, Vannish longboats were the epitome of trade and naval power in the North. Despite that, the sport doesn't get much attention in Vangaziland. This was probably due to the cost of participating. It just didn't garner the following that sports like soccer and basketball could.

There were still a few competitive teams out there.

One of the best places for Rowers was Overglade University. This was Vangaziland's top school, academically and athletically. Their team of 8 is coming off a winning season, winning the Intercollegiate Water Cup. There were a few schools in contention, but Overglade edged them out.

They are led by engineering major Karl Marvick at stroke. He is known for his good timing and smooth motions.

The women's team came in second in their season, but their loss was considered an upset. The women's team is known for having some fairly strong ladies in the middle of the boat. They can really get going.

A major reason the Vangazi participated in this event was to continue the rivalry between Overglade and the other elite rowing school in Vangaziland.

The was Navy Maritime. This was a school for Navy cadets and a limited amount of aspiring merchant marines. Military service was mandatory in Vangaziland. Here, Vangazi trained to become Naval officers. The life of a Naval officer was romanticized. Many Vangazi still had that urge to sail the seas and explore. They could also train in careers aboard large shipping vessels. Some took their degree and went into business as commercial fishermen.

They had many different options available to draw top recruits.

Navy Maritime was known for their leadership. The most charismatic cadets were usually selected as Coxswain. Both Nate Andrewssen and Elissa J. French were the type of people that their team wanted to row for. They brought the military spirit into this.

Navy had two strong rowers in the middle of their boats. Steven Placer and Hanna Olafssen stood out most amongst their peers as far as strength goes.

Each school was also sending a sculler. Both of the rowers knew each other, had competed for years and were friends of a sort. They'd be interested in seeing who does better.

The fight between these two schools would be played out on an international stage. After a competitive season, both teams looked to establish dominance over the other. Of course, there was a long road between each team meeting each other. There were some talented teams out there. It would all depend on who faced who.

Neither school sent a 150's team. That honor was given to two city clubs. Many former college players end up on clubs like this after graduation.

All teams knew they were representing Vangaziland. They would look to set a good example on and off the water. If nothing else, they would compete and show the heart of the Vannish people.

Wow! Some exciting results from the first day - somehow MattijanaLadijaOrenBand posted the fastest time of the day with a blazing 5:24.81, despite only having a skill modifier of 67. Meanwhile, my top ranked Lusavik boat got knocked out... by my own team... goddammit Mitras Rowing Club.

Please tell me if you notice any errors, either in formatting or in results. The two 1000m times were generated directly from xkoranate, but the Overall Time was just me adding them together manually, so if the two half times don't add up to the whole, please let me know! I've double checked but you never know.

Also, I had to do the style modifier switches by hand, so if I messed up your boat's conservative/aggressive style mod please let me know as well.

Thanks to everyone who RPed, and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's results! Have a good one y'all.

Regatta Report- Day 1

As the Regatta begins, Qasden's hopes of securing a title in any of the events has been cut in half.

In the Esportivan Grand Challenge Cup R16, the Taxson River Academy RC took on VNG's Navy Maritime Rowing Club. It didn't take long for the Academy to fall behind, as they were 2 seconds back from Maritime at the half-way point. When the finish line was crossed, Navy Maritime ultimately won, defeating the Academy by 5 seconds. With the Academy eliminated, Qasden bids farewell to the EGCC early.

Meanwhile, in the Prince Roewulf 150's Plate, Port Harston 1337 RC narrowly clinched a victory against the host's Zümond City 150's in the Quarterfinals. The race was extremely close, with the first half only giving Harston a little over .75 second lead. Harston '37 will play North Emeros RC of Vangaziland in the semis, with all the pressure of Qasden on them.

Can '37 keep the Qads going at the Regatta? Will the Academy recover from their loss? Only way to know all of this is to stay alert for the day 2 report, here at the Regatta in the Free Swiss States.

The competition between Overglade and Navy Maritime would be just about crushed by the end of the first day. Overglade came into this tournament favored to do better than their cross country rival. Time would tell if Overglade simply faced faster boats, or if Navy Maritime was simply quicker.

Overglade Men's 8 lost to Baranburg University in a race that the Vangazi lead throughout the first 1000 meters. Overglade's time was only a few tenths slower than Navy Maritime's first 1000 meters. The second half was the difference. Overglade ran 5 seconds slower in the last 1000 meters. This was enough for Baransburg to catch up and pass them.

Navy Maritime ran two fairly even and fast times, both around 2 minutes and 42 seconds per 1000 meters. The effort was enough to beat Taxson River Academy by over 5 seconds.

Navy's strong team in the middle of both the Men's and Women's 8's led to their consistent performance.

Overglade focused more on the timing of their Stroke.

Navy won their Women's 8 match by about 6 seconds. The team really seemed to get behind Elissa French with all boat sections showing good form and pace.

Overglade Women's 8 desperately tried to make up time on their second 1000 meter leg. But they couldn't catch up from a slow start. Both of Overglade's teams were ranked a bit higher than Navy Maritime's. Navy showed that fighting spirit they have been known for.

Both school's scullers managed to advance. It increased the chances that the two rivals could face each other in a head-to-head race. If that happened, each rower would carry the weight of their schools on their shoulders. This was especially true for Drew Hixen from Overglade. He was the school's last chance for victory. Unfortunately, rival Peter Davenson was seen as a stronger rower.

North Emeros advanced in the 150's, while Auster lost. North Emeros put up the fastest time in their class. Their first 1000 meters were a relative blur. The team looked motivated and on the top of their game.

Vangaziland's two high school teams progressed in the Princess Amelia Cup. Imperial put up the fastest time to beat a very talented middle school. Some may have even thought the middle school had more than a fair chance of topping Imperial.

But Imperial is home to junior cadets. Imperial Military Prep prepares students for future careers as Army or Marine officers. The goal is to get these students into Imperial Military Academy, a 4 year cadet university. Unlike many nations, Marine cadets study with the Army in Vangaziland, as opposed to the Navy. Of course, graduates of the prep school could also either enter Navy Maritime, the College of the Air Force or even Coast Guard University.

They showed a little of the military spirit that Navy Maritime did, fighting off the line and down the stretch.

Prince F. Vang Academy was their rival. This was the top academic high school in Vangaziland. They did well mostly in expensive niche sports like rowing or equestrian events. Vang Academy thought Imperial was full of meatheads. Students at Imperial thought Vang Academy was full of pencil necks. The two student bodies were actually more similar than they would have admitted, but they didn't realize it.

Both schools would be happy to race each other on an international stage. The Sporting Comission did well to select true rivals for the Regatta.

Mixed Start for Mattijana

Mattijanan hopes at the pre-Olympic Van Eaux Royal Regatta were both boosted and crushed at the first day of competition in the Free Swiss States. In the main and for now, the most important event, the Esportivan Grand Challenge Cup, both Mattijana's men's and women's squads progressed to the second round with fairly comfortable victories. However, the nation is now only represented in that competition as Zoë Junozoviĉ, the Mattijanašarken and the MattijanaWelen were all eliminated with the JugaBand suffering the same disappointing fate.

A margin of 0.4 seconds separated the boats of the MattijanaLadijaOrenBand and the New Dili Rowing Club from West-East Timor. Mattijana in fact trailed at the halfway stage by around 0.6 seconds, but clawed their way back agonisingly slowly and eventually took a slim victory. Speaking after the race, the captain, Jasmin Manivic said this:

"We definitely could have rowed better. Our timing was very rusty over the first half and we were a bit lucky not to be further behind to be honest. We rowed a really good second leg though and it's good to see our extra fitness training paying off in the last kilometre. We're really happy to be through and we'll keep practicing for the next race."

The MattijanaLadijoOrenBand also made it into round two, but in much more comfortable circumstances as they beat the Universidad de Santander Rowing Club by a margin of 22 seconds. An imperious first leg in which the Mattijanan boat opened up a 6 second lead soon became a dominant second and Mattijana were clearly the fitter and more disciplined side, opening up a further 16 seconds as tiredness and errors started to lose their opponents vital speed. In the end, they just cruised across the line, eventually posting the second slowest time of the boats who qualified for the second round. Marko Lazaro, the captain, said this after the race:

"We're satisfied with the result. We could have rowed faster, but we wanted to save some energy for the next round. There's still a lot of rowing to be done hopefully and as long as we got through, we just wanted to keep some energy in reserve. We rowed a good first kilometre today, so we'll work to sharpen up the timing and try and go even faster next time"

The MattijanaLadija face another opponent from Omnidirectional Timor in the last eight. They take on Baranburg University who beat Overglade University from Vangaziland, whilst the MattijanaLadijo will row against Mitras Rowing Club from the host nation, the Free Swiss States, who beat compatriots from the Lusavik Gentlemen Rowing and Sailing Association.

At the other end of the spectrum, Zoë Junozoviĉ was beaten comfortably by Jackson Frealan. Despite a closer second kilometre, she just didn't have the raw pace of her opponent and was eventually beaten by a margin of 12 seconds.

The MattijanaWelen got slightly closer in their Ladies plate tie with local favourites, Iris Rowing Club. A very tight first leg after which the two boats were barely separated gave way to a close, but ultimately slower second kilometre which Iris headed by around 3 seconds. It was a strong display on home water by Iris Rowing Club who were ultimately that little bit fitter and stronger. Home success was also found in the 150's plate, once again at Mattijanan expense as the šarken were always playing catch-up after a sticky start and early clash of oars that sadly wrote off any chance of a recovery.

We wish the best of luck to all competitors in the next round, particularly those from Mattijana.

WET ROWING

Acceptable start for WET rowing teams - both single scullers out!

The first day of the van Eaux Royal Regatta on the Zesna river is over, and five out of eight West-East Timorian teams are still in. The Janor Boat Club won their duell against the Gadiryan National Rowing Team by ~2 seconds. At the begining it was a real tight duell, but Janor had gained a slight advantage after the first 1000 meters. The last 1000 meters they became better, and in the end, they won it. By 2 seconds. But we've already told you. Here's what Jajor's coxswain, James McDooningham, said after the match:

"I think we did well today, but we could have done better in the first half of the duell. I don't know if we can win against Navy Maritime tomorrow, but let's see. Maybe Janor Boat Club is back again, eh?"

No, he never says a lot. But he told who they will race against next (of course, we'd also know that if hadn't told us): Navy Maritime Rowing Club from Vangaziland. They won against Taxson River Academy RC by 3 seconds. But we know nothing about there motivation, because it seems like people in Vangaziland hoped for a duell Navy Maritime vs. Overglade University, which are out, so there won't be this duell. So maybe they aren't really motivated, because they basically won the duell, or they are even more motivated, for the same reasons.

Maybe your asking who it was Overglade lost against. Well, it's Nr.2. The Baranburg University Rowing Club! They rowed like Nr.1, beating one of Vangazilands best rowing teams by two seconds. Yes, two seconds again. Although Overglade led the first 1000 meters, they became worse at the last 1000 meters, so Baranburg could pass. Rower Waldemar Alfredsson said:

"We were brilliant today! Ok, actually we were only OK, but it's not our mistake when Overglade think they can win everything. Never forget, we're Nr.2. That means, we'll reach the finals. And maybe something unusual happens in the final, who knows? Sorry for crushing the Vangaziland-intern duell, but we simply were better. We should concentrate now on MattijanaLadijoOrenBand, they've kicked out... oh, right, New Dili's out! Haha! Take that New Dili! We are better than you!"

That's what he said. And yes, it's sad, but true, New Dili Rowing Club is out. They were brilliant, had the second fastest time of the day. Only only one team did better. It's the team from Mattijana with that long and complicated name, which I don't want to write again. Let's forget this. Of course the New Dili rowers said something, but it's too sad to write it down here.

Let's have a look at the Ladie's Plate. There, New Dili Rowing Club won! But not against a school from Vangaziland, against Janor Rowers. And another West-East Timorian team kicked out, but at least the one who was worse. Janor Rowers lost against New Dili Rowing Club by eight seconds! Eight seconds! Unbelievable! Janor had the worst time of the day in the Ladie's Plate, and New Dili the best one. New Dili coxswain Estelle Agamund said:

"I can't believe it! Best time of the day, that's really amazing! I'm happy! But I'm also sad that we had to row against Janor, if it's not your biggest rival, it's not easy to win against a team from your own country. And I think Janor had the same problems, but they couldn't handle them as well as we did. We shouldn't think too much about it, we're going to race Navy Maritime tomorrow."

Meanwhile in the Prince Roewulf 150's Plate, the good old Jalpenju Boat Clib won against Auster Boat Clib from Vangaziland by 3 seconds. Coxswain Kai MacKay said:

"I think we've proven today that Jalpenju Boat Club still is the best West-East Timorian Rowing Club! OK, maybe our non-leightweight teams are rubbish, but our lightweight team is brilliant! Basil Lights will have no chance! Well, at least I hope so."

New Dili Sports School won against Mattijana JučaBand by three seconds. But it's not a surprise that West-East Timors best young athletes win again some random Band members. Why are teams from Mattijana called Band? Does it mean something special in their language?

Norgrobi High School lost against Prince F. Vang Academy from Vangaziland, but who cares about Norgrobi anyways?

Things didn't go well for the two West-East Timorian single scullers. Timothy MacBernd lost against Vangazilands Drew Hixen. Over the first 1000 meters, it was a head-to-head duell, but then Hixen could gain advantage and won by two second. Afterwards, MacBernd was very disappointed and didn't want to give any interviews.

Enthusiastic fisher James Bjarnisson caught a crab even before the race startd. When it started, he put the crab in an aquarium and tried to keep up with Mateusz Krbynzyski-Oszymnyk. Or not. He didn't seem to care about the duell at all. So he lost by seven seconds. And deserved it. All he said after it was:

"It's a nice day, I've caught a nice crab today, everything is fine."

If you want to do that, you can call us Omnidirectional Timor as well...
