FECOFA 2016
Welcome to the 60th Edition of the FECOFA Championship! This year, it will be hosted in Masseau. There will be 4 host venues in four different cities: Estadé Metripolitiano in Sieste, Parqué Zideta in Gurrea, Estadé Concurras in Calabrez, and Estadé Ciudad in Mondriz. This will have been the 10th time that Masseau has hosted the event since its creation in 1956.
The FECOFA Championship traces its lineage back to the Six Nations Championship, first contested by Francilie, Montecara, West Cedarbrook, Filimons, Masseau and the Federal Republic of Cortoguay in 1956 as a way to heal continuing Second Great War-era social and political tensions. The Six Nations Championships was contested using a one single round-robin group stage, with the top nation on the table being declared the champion. Upon the expansion of the tournament to include Lecistan and Cavila, the Championship separated into two four-nation groups, with each group winner contesting the final to decide the overall winner.
The tournament later expanded to include Arieria and Costa Sud for the 30th anniversary in 1986, being rebranded as the FECOFA Championship. 1986 also saw the abolition of the third place playoff and the introduction of full knockout stage, with group winners and runners-up advancing to the semifinals and the semifinal winners contesting the final game. From 1985 to the tournament’s expansion to twelve teams, the bottom team in each group contested play-offs with the non-participating teams to determine who would participate in the following tournament, so as to allow all ten teams to participate without overly complicating scheduling.
The début of Thietsch and Aut in 1995 marked the end of the relegation system and the introduction of a third group and quarterfinals, with the tournament moving to three points for a win the same year to encourage attacking play. The tournament’s most recent expansion in 2000 to include Valita, Vermonse, Cislecia and Livancia helped create a "qualifying" prior to the tournament and brought the tournament to its modern form. The 2000 edition also brought the practice of referring to specific editions of the Championship as "FESCOFA [year]", which has since been retroactively applied to earlier tournaments.
For FECOFA 2016, there are 3 groups composed of four teams. There will be 3 group match days from June 29th to July 1st. The top 2 in each group will qualify, and the best 2 teams that placed third will advance as well. The knockout stage will start in Tuesday, July 5th. Quarterfinals will take place on July 5th, Semifinals on July 7th, and the Championship on July 9th. Estadé Metripolitiano in Sieste will be the site of all Group A matches, Parqué Zideta in Gurrea will be the site of all Group B matches, and Estadé Concurras in Calabrez will be the site of all Group C matches. Further information about the sites of the knockout stage will be released later. PS: I will use xkoranate 0.3.3 and I will be grading RPs on a scale of 1-4. I will have a guest grader that will grade mine hopefully. Also, please include skill modifier in your roster. Rosters will count as 4 points towards your score. Get rosters!
