Livancia is a nation situated on the Conitian continent, notable for being a Muslim nation. Islam arrived via merchants from Nautasia. From the 1800s to the mid-1900s, it was ravaged by colonialism, with Francilie directly controlling the present-day area of the Sebh Governorate, while a protectorate shiekhdom was established.

Today, it is one of the fastest growing economies in the Islamic world, serving as a crossroads between Nautasia and Conitia. It has a diverse population ranging from Francilians to Arabs, and even Livancians, who were descendants of the original Latin inhabitants. Minakbir and Belt tal-Lvant are the major cities and economic cores, with Belt tal-Lvant traditionally being more oriented towards Conitia, and Minakbir moreso towards Nautasia.

There is a lot to see: the majestic Holy Mountains divides the country into two (and home to the famous mountain goats) with a vast plateau covering much of the western regions of the country: to its west lies the "Muslim Coast," with fertile soils and nice beaches, and to the east of the Holy Mountains lies the "Christian Coast," with the same things.

In addition, there is a lot of culture: due to the diverse range of people residing in Livancia, you can find churches and mosques, loud and bustling markets, and lots and lots of cuisine, such as imqaret (which is a pastry filled with dates), basbousa, and falafels.

Coupe d'Esquarium VI - Group stage predictions
Atlia makes it debut and Luziyca sends its first true national team as several behemoths boycott.

Atlian fans celebrate the victory over Aucuria that qualified Atlia for their first Coupe d'Esquarium.

MINAKBIR, LIVANCIA | April 23, 2016- In what was a disaster to Aucuria's small but devoted soccer fandom, and a dream come true for Atlia's passionate and numerous soccer fans, Atlia defeated Aucuria 3-1 to gain entry into this year's Coupe d'Esquarium, the sixth edition of the international soccer tournament. With twenty-eight teams competing, this Coupe is noticeably smaller than Coupes IV or V, both of which had forty participating teams. This is due to a widespread boycott, with some national soccer leagues alleging that Livancia attained the right to host the sixth edition of the Coupe through bribery, and other expressing concerns about security. As a result, CdEV champions Michillies have not returned to defend their title; other teams boycotting or failing to return include Odissia, Francilie, Masseau, Ziegenhain, Unolia, the Ocelot Isles, and Vjaarland.

But a variety of soccer behemoths- including Ainin, Nevanmaa, Vyvland, and Pavonistade- have returned for the sixth edition, alongside a litany of teams seeking to claim a place among the giants, Luziyca's first true national team, and, as always, an impressive list of debutantes. Even with so many teams missing, there is no doubt that this Coupe will be a thrilling one- especially for the millions of Atlians who will be cheering for the Stallions as they play in the Coupe for the first time. Here are our predictions for the group phase of the Sixth Coupe d'Esquarium:

Group A - Livancia, West Cedarbrook, Pucamha, Crolacia

Situation: Hosts Livancia make their Coupe d'Esquarium debut, put in Group A as is customary for host nations. Also debuting are West Cedarbrook and Pucamha; the abilities and skills of Livancia, West Cedarbrook, and Pucamha are largely unknown as a result. Only one of the four teams in this group, Crolacia, has ever seen a Coupe; Crolacia participated in the third and fifth editions, located in Masseau and Lyonsland respectively. In both situations, Crolacia got through the knockout rounds but failed to make it to the quarterfinals, losing 2-3 to Vyvland in the third edition and 3-5 to Francilie in the fifth.

Prediction: Crolacia should take first in the group with little trouble; as the only team with prior experience in an overwhelmingly-debutante group, they have several advantages and have been hardened more than their rivals. So long as Crolacia keeps a steady course, they should easily advance to the knockout stage- though how they fare there could be an entirely different story. We predict that Livancia will take second place in the group, and thus also advance to the knockouts, simply because of home-field advantage; with so little known about the teams from Livancia, West Cedarbrook, and Pucamha, this is the only advantage we know any one of them will have.

Group B - Luziyca, Scotia, Lydland, Nevanmaa

Situation: Soccer behemoth Luziyca, for the first time, is sending an actual national team to the Coupe d'Esquarium instead of a club team; while several of their players have seen Coupes before as part of their club teams, it's unclear how well the Luziycan team will work as a unified group. Scotia makes its third Coupe appearance; Scotia made it to the Round of 16 in the fourth edition before losing to Lyonsland in a penalty shootout, but failed to recover from group stage losses to Nevanmaa and Litorea in the fifth edition. Lydland makes its second appearance, having failed to make it past the group stage in the fifth Coupe. Nevanmaa, who made it to the Round of 16 in the fourth Coupe and took third place in the fifth, will no doubt be looking to make it to the finals for the first time.

Prediction: Nevanmaa is likely to make it to the knockout stage, and will probably take first in the group; they should easily defeat the significantly weaker Lydish team, and we know Nevanmaa has the ability to beat Scotia, which they did 3-0 in the fifth Coupe. Both Luziyca and Scotia have the chance to be the other team to break; what it might come down to is how well the new Luziycan national team functions as a coherent unit. There is no denying that Luziyca has a very strong cast of players- many of them were able to lead club teams to victory against national teams in previous Coupes- but if these players cannot work together, then the Luziycan team could very well implode in what would be all too reminiscent of their CdEIV fiasco. If Luziyca's team can work together effectively, then they should be able to claim the other knockout berth; if they cannot, then Scotia will likely advance. Lydland, while not debuting, is still stuck in a group of significantly larger, wealthier, and more powerful teams; their prospects for advancement are bleak.

Group C - Lyonsland, Estovnia, Osonia, Arkiasis

Situation: Lyonsland, hosts of the fifth edition, look to redeem themselves for their Round of 16 loss at home with something closer to the fourth Coupe in Michillies, where they took third place after beating Vjaarland 2-1. Estovnia makes their Coupe d'Esquarium debut; their abilities are largely unknown. Osonia's Purple Crocuses return for their second Coupe; they made it to the knockout rounds in the fifth Coupe, but rioted after a 2-1 loss to the Nevan Lions. Arkiasis returns for its third Coupe, having failed to break past the group stage after mediocre performances in both the fourth and fifth editions.

Prediction: Lyonsland and Osonia, the only two of the four teams in this group to have made it past the group stage before, should both advance to the knockouts once again, though we don't feel comfortable saying who takes first and who takes second. Arkiasis has the opportunity to use what they've learned in past editions to upset this prediction, and relegate either Lyonsland or Osonia to elimination, though their prior experiences suggest that they might fail to capitalize on critical moments. Estovnia likely takes last in the group in either situation, though it is possible that the could surprise us yet.

Group D - Korivania, Montecara, Pisdara, Vyvland

Situation: Korivania's Shadoweagles makes their second appearance at a Coupe d'Esquarium after being eliminated by Crolacia in the fifth edition's group stages. Montecara's King-Killers make their second appearance too, but- unlike Korivania- managed to make it to the Round of 16 before being eliminated 2-0 by Odissia's Azure Army. Pisdara, the small set of Aininian-controlled islands whose plight has made headlines frequently in recent months, makes their Coupe debut at a time when Pisdara needs a strong unifying symbol. And, of course, soccer giant Vyvland towers over every team in the group with their two previous Coupe titles- but their embarrassing group stage knockout in the fifth edition has called their soccer supremacy into question.

Prediction: Montecara takes first, Vyvland or Korivania takes second. Vyvland cannot be discounted or treated as a weak team, of course, but their recent humiliation in the fifth Coupe d'Esquarium makes us hesitant to assume that they will inevitably dominate, as we might have predicted in the past. Pisdara is a small and weak debutante, and does not seem like a probable candidate for advancement. This leaves us with Montecara or Korivania; the fifth edition saw Montecara make it to the knockout stage while Korivania failed to break. With Montecara's recent history marked by major successes, we find it to be a probable victor; the mixed but still not bad records of Vyvland and Korivania make them likely to take the second place berth.

Group E - Atlantia Creek, Daecon, Freyhill, Kraq

Situation: Atlantia Creek makes their fourth Coupe appearance; the otherwise little-known nation shocked Esquarium by making it to the semifinals in CdEIII, but failed to break in CdEIV and was blown out of the water 6-1 by Litorea in CdEV's Round of 16. Daecon, having never broken from the group round before, makes its fourth appearance at the Coupe d'Esquarium, no doubt hoping to actually advance this time. Freyhill's team, meanwhile, makes their first Coupe appearance at CdEVI. Kraq, meanwhile, makes their third appearance; Kraq made it to the Round of 16 in the fourth Coupe, but failed to break out of the group round in the fifth.

Prediction: Kraq breaks, probably taking first place in the group. While they were down on their luck in the fifth edition, they have been battle-hardened against teams like Masseau, Francilie, Vyvland, and Nevanmaa, and should have an easy time in their games against Freyhill and Daecon. Atlantia Creek also likely breaks, probably taking second place but possibly taking first; whether or not they can replicate the success that was their CdEIII run is yet to be seen. Daecon, like Arkiasis in Group C, has the opportunity to use what they've learned in past editions to advance, but could also fail to capitalize on critical moments. Freyhill's team, debuting, is likely set to have a bad time in Livancia as they face down tougher, battle-scarred teams.

Group F - North Qianrong, South Qianrong, Ainin, East Nautarya

Situation: North Qianrong makes its second Coupe appearance; even after losing half the Qianrongese team to South Qianrong, North Qianrong managed to break out of the group stage and triumphantly eliminated the Kenyen FIghters 4-0 in the fifth CdE before being narrowly eliminated by Nevanmaa. South Qianrong, too, is in Group F- they were narrowly denied advancement to the fifth edition's knockout round by Ainin's 3-0 victory over the Kenyen FIghters. Soccer behemoth Ainin- who made it to the quarterfinals in the fourth Coupe and took fourth place in the fifth- is also in the group. Rounding out the group is East Nautarya, making their second CdE appearance; in CdEV, they lost every single match they played, finishing dead last not only in their group but in the tournament as a whole.

Prediction: Ainin takes first place, and one of the Qianrongs takes second. While the Qianrongs could provide a stiff challenge to Ainin- as the South Qianrongese did in the fifth edition- they are by far the dominant team of the group, with a long track record of soccer success. Both Qianrongs, meanwhile, have the capability to advance; while North Qianrong has certainly made it far farther than South Qianrong in previous Coupes, this could change in the sixth CdE. The match between the two might be what decides who breaks and who is eliminated, and will no doubt be a highly charged and potentially violent match for both teams. East Nautarya will pose little, if any challenge, to Ainin or to either Qianrong; in the fifth Coupe, East Nautarya lost every single match they played by at least a three-point margin.

Group G - Atlia, Senterland, Pavonistade, Sandhelm

Situation: The Atlian Stallions make their Coupe debut, having defeated Aucuria's Gryphons 3-1 in a qualifying round; it remains yet to be seen how they will fare on the international playing field. Senterland, too, makes its international debut. Pavonistade makes its third Coupe appearance; Pavonistade took second place in the fourth Coupe d'Esquarium, but fell from grace in the fifth, failing to make it past the group stage after strong challenges from Ziegenhain and North Qianrong. Sandhelm, too, makes their third appearance in the Coupe- but like Arkiasis and Daecon, they have not broken in any of their previous appearances.

Prediction: Pavonistade redeems itself for their CdEV failures by taking first place within the group and once again advances to the Round of 16; as the only team to make it past the Round of 16, they have a definite advantage in preparation and skill. Sandhelm, in a similar situation to Daecon and Arkiasis but facing fewer tough challengers, likely advances to the knockout rounds for the first time. Atlia and Senterland, both debuting, will likely struggle against the more experienced Pavon and Sandhelmic teams- though the potential for an upset, as always, is there.

The Coupe d'Esquarium: our chances of survival

MINAKBIR, LIVANCIA - Tomorrow, we witness the first match of the Coupe d'Esquarium: the new national team of Luziyca has left a few days ago to adapt themselves to the tropical environment and to practice for their first match tomorrow: the match would be against the Scotians, who have decided to participate in this edition.

Despite being smaller than previous editions due to a boycott as a result of allegations of corruption, and/or security concerns (with eight nations who officially boycotted), many football powers like Ainin, Luziyca, Vyvland, Pavonistade and Nevanmaa are participating in this edition of the CdE.

This edition, the Patriots are sorted in Group B, alongside Scotia, Lydland, and Nevanmaa. This is the first major international competition under the new system that was implemented as a consequence of the controversy that plagued the previous edition of the Coupe.

The greatest challenge, as examined by Aucuria's "News of the Republic" is that "[i]t's unclear how well the Luziycan team will work as a unified group." While they have practiced quite hard over the past few days in the town of Imbiegħed, this is certainly a match that will determine our future. Why?

If we are able to win this one, we may have secured the group qualifications, for our next match shall be that of Lydland. As far as we are concerned, we have that match in the bag: that match is going to be a cakewalk, and if we pass that, we basically get to go into the Round of Sixteen, since we won two out of the three matches.

However, should we lose the match against Scotia, while we may recover in the match against Lydland, it will be an uphill challenge to beat Nevanmaa, what with their racism, bigotry, and their football prowess. Losing the match against Scotia means that the match against Nevanmaa will be very important.

As for Nevanmaa's odds? They will likely crush Lydland tomorrow, and then on Monday, comes their challenge: the match against Scotia will be critical. If Scotia lost their first match, they would be significantly demoralized, and it can help Nevanmaa boost their odds of getting into the Round of Sixteen, thus eliminating Scotia from the running.

Scotia will have a tough battle: they have to deal with the Luziycan Patriots, and then the Nevan Lions on the first two days: it may as well be their group of death.

And for Lydland? Hell will freeze over before Lydland wins the Coupe, let alone the group stage.

Thus, we wish the Patriots good luck, and may they play well tomorrow!

DECLARATION COMES AS SIXTH EDITION OF INTERNATIONAL SOCCER TOURNAMENT APPROACHES

Prime Minister Qi said soccer riots would be "quickly and firmly suppressed by police".

APRIL 24, 2016- Yucheng, Qianrong- With the sixth edition of the Coupe d'Esquarium soccer tournament approaching, QIanrongese Prime Minister Qi Chien-Xuan declared earlier today that Qianrong's national and municipal police forces would be "working overtime to maintain public order and to prevent any sort of sporting-related violence", vowing that any attempts by Qianrongese soccer fans to incite a soccer riot would be treated as a criminal attempt to disrupt public order.

The declaration comes as the Firebirds prepare for their fourth appearance at the international soccer tournament, held this year in the nation of Livancia. During past editions, Qianrongese soccer fans frequently rioted following losses to Luziycan club teams; in the fifth edition, these riots eventually culminated in a crisis in which Luziycan ambassador to Qianrong Anna Dogorov was murdered and numerous other diplomatic officials were taken hostage by rioters. The crisis was eventually resolved when the government of Luziycan President Sera Svensson agreed to pay a ransom demanded by the rioters in exchange for the release of the hostages.

"For too long this nation's name has been sullied by the actions of drunken hooligans," Qi said. "I will not allow this to be the case any longer. Coupe-related violence will not be tolerated by the government of the Second Independent State." Qi said that municipal and national police would be deployed during matches to quickly end any soccer-related violence before it could spin out of control. Individuals attempting to provoke soccer riots would be charged with disorderly conduct and attempting to provoke violence; rioters who attacked others or damaged property would be charged with assault or destruction of property as applicable. "We will show no tolerance to those attempting to provoke or incite violence. All riots will be suppressed quickly and firmly by police... being belligerent or destructive does not and will not prove your devotion to a team, and it will not be tolerated under any circumstances."

While the Firebirds are not facing Luziyca- the target of most previous Coupe violence - in the group stage, the Firebirds have been placed in the same group as the team sent by the so-called Qianrongese Soviet Republic. Some analysts have speculated that the match between the two teams could potentially turn violent, and possibly even destabilize the ceasefire created by the Xiangmen Accords. As a result, it is probable that Qi's announcement is an attempt to dissuade those who might consider rioting in the event that the Firebirds lose the match.

The first match for the Firebirds, against Ainin, will be held on April 24.

First CdE VI matches see Pavonistadian defeat + CdE VI updates

were defeated on their first matches.

Matchday One of the sixth edition of the Coupe d'Esquarium saw a small defeat of the Pavonistadian Fearless by a debutante. In a match that concluded 3-2 with a victory for the Atlian Stallions, the Fearless put up a ferocious offensive that were at many points in the match fruitless and may be said to be overshadowed by the Stallions' performances. Despite what some Fearless supporters believe to be a repetition of a disappointing CdE opener for Pavonistade, the Fearless managed to hold their heads high.

The first half of the match was quite favorable for the Fearless. Captain Frederik Kamef was the first to score, booting the ball past Stallion goalkeeper Seyyit Tandoğan at minute 12. The Stallions retaliated quite early; forward Süleyman Çalhanoğlu bypassed the Fearless defenders to score past the Fearless's Sean Johansen at minute 18. In a stagnating confrontation that followed, in which both teams were unable to overcome each other for the next 12 minutes, Stallion captain Abdilâh Aydoğan finally made a breakthrough at minute 30. Johansen failed to deny the score by the opponents' captain.

The remaining ten minutes of the first half led to a lack of change in match results, which Atlia led 2-1 over Pavonistade before the second half. Trying to recuperate from earlier losses, the Fearless did not hesitate to attempt outpacing and outsmarting the Stallions. Determination eventually paid off as midfielder Oliver Peques made a successful instep kick at minute 71. The then-tied results may have motivated the Stallions to attack as aggressively as possible, and right forward Zikirilâh Hacıoğlu had the ball flying past Johansen at minute 85. Unable to match up with the Stallions, the Fearless were brought to defeat with a score of 2-3.

The first CdE VI match may remind the Fearless of their defeat in the first CdE V match, in which they were unexpectedly crushed by the Ziegenian Wolves 1-5. Commenting about the ending results, team manager Lawrense Dawn said that the Fearless did much better than during the Ziegenian happening. "Even with today's loss, the men braved through a lot from the intense back-and-forth match," Dawn said to PAN and other journalists. "To me, and to countless people back home, that is more than splendid for the Fearless. I wish them great luck for tomorrow's match."

Matchday One also pulled some surprising results for CdE VI, though technically this is to be expected from a repeating cycle of the expected and the unexpected. Crolacia, the only country in Group A to have prior CdE encounters, was decisively defeated by debuting Pucamha 0-4, as other debutantes such as West Cedarbrook and Estovnia emerged victorious in their matches. Debuting Pisdara tied with Vyvland, which overwhelmed opponents in the past. All participants tied in Group D while other recognized countries such as Nevanmaa and Ainin succumbed to their opponents (Lydland and North Qianrong respectively). The other match of Group G ended in a tie between Sandhelm and Senterland.

In tomorrow's match, the Fearless is expected to go up against Sandhelm's Foxes. The Atlian Stallions will be pitched in a skirmish with the Sentrist Congregation.
