Welcome to Norkodsav, Ontorisa. Population: 329,000.
IC

Image

BACKGROUND
Norkodsav, a small city of about 329,000 located in the province of Isytarus, is known for its local mining, refineries and hard working northern folk. There is plenty of history behind the city, mainly with trade from up north, but nothing beats the history of Norkodsav's athletics.

Located in Norkodsav is the Norkodsav Raiders, a team in the 16-team Kirde-Mägi Hoki Liigamäng or KMHL (North-Eastern Mountain Hockey League). Noted for its Grajoser Cup wins in 1987, 1993 and 1998, the team has recently fallen on hard times in the league, finishing in the lower half of the league and possessing the league record of 10 seasons not qualifying for the playoffs. Despite this, the citizens of Norkodsav and the surrounding towns and villages still come and cheer on the team zealously, even though they have not seen very much success in the past. With the team finishing last season with an 11-29-5 record, the General Manager of the Raiders, Okider Zayilin was fired by the owner of the Raiders, who hired former OJL assistant coach, Jakob Verilyier as the new General Manager of the Raiders.

Verilyier's first task was to have the team finally finish the season with a .500 win percentage or more. How he plans to do this would be to use what all of the teams in the KMHL have neglected to do: bring in foreign talent. Right now, the Norkodsav Raiders are currently taking applications from foreign players, whether if they're professional or coming right out of university or college. Who knows, maybe you'll be one of the lucky players to be taken onto the Raiders' roster.

OOC
In this RP, unlike other NSSport RPs, you'll be controlling one character in this. Since this RP is very character-driven, you'll be experiencing the effects of full on professional hockey. This means, you'll have to deal with fans, your teammates' shenanigans, the coach yelling at the team, 6 am bag skates, living in a foreign country and more, without actually having to experience it. That being said, the KMHL is not a top tier hockey league like the NHL or KHL, but rather more of the quality of the SHL or Finnish Liiga, so please be realistic with your players as none of them are going to be major league superstars.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • If your character does not perform to their position, or has attitude problems, or so forth, they will suffer the consequences of their actions (i.e. be benched during games, see themselves moved in the roster or even scratched).

A photo of the Dragas Business District of Norkodsav

THE CITY
At a glance, Norkodsav appears to be another city in North Ontorisa. With a population below 500,000, many pass by the city or stop for a quick rest before continuing north towards the bustling city of Esanmur. By far, Norkodsav is not warm throughout the majority of the year, only reaching warm temperatures of 25°C during the months of May to late September. The rest of the year fluctuates between 10°C and -20°C, except for a reasonable warm spring thaw. Despite these harsh temperature conditions, Norkodsav's inhabitants still find positives in the city.

The city is typically divided up into three districts: The Dragas District, which is primarily composed of industrial and office businesses, the Cojier District, where the majority of the apartments of the city are located, and the Havisder District, where both entertainment and upper class housing is located. All three of these districts are very well laid out, and relatively easy to navigate.

ENTERTAINMENT
Image
One of the most popular places to gather in Norkodsav is at the Reigersayer Pub.
Whether if you're looking for a place to eat, drink or hang out with you friends at, Norkodsav has plenty of establishments to fit your means. Other than your typical fast food restaurants such as Mauri's, The Totem and Cjerid's Coffee, there are still plenty of bars, pubs and other entertainment establishments to visit.

A notable pub to visit is the Reigersayer Pub. Located in the Havisder District at 503 Nyirel Street, the Pub has been in Norkodsav since the very beginning. Known for its moderately expensive drinks, good times, the Pub is the go-to place for celebrations, meet-ups or even dates. Family owned and ran, the Reigersayer Pub has also been a tradition of the Norkodsav Raiders to attend to after each game, win or loss.

A second bar to visit is the Oldris Bar, this one being found in the Cojier District. Popular for its cheap drinks, but the Oldris Bar attracts more lower-class folk than the Reigersayer Pub does. It is much like a typical bar, with good times, music and so forth, but is less known throughout Norkodsav.

A famed restaurant in Norkodsav is the Toppler, a mainly steak-orientated restaurant with supporting dishes of veal and pork. Expensive, but considered to be one of the best restaurants in Norkodsav, the Toppler is typically formal dinners. Other notable restaurants include The Doyilerk (traditional Ontorisan food such as roasted chicken, seeded bread and blackened pork), Armada (seafood brought in from the Western Coast of Ontorisa), Val-Zeriska (Red meats orientated such as steak and roast beef) and Eat-Up! (A North-American centred restaurant with a huge variety of delicately made hamburgers both vegetarian and standard hamburgers). As well, there are numerous chain restaurants such as Nando's and Chili's in Norkodsav.

Image
An interior view of the Roddiska Nightclub when it's not open.
Other places of interest, excluding places to eat, is the Roddiska Nightclub. The Roddiska Nightclub is one of the best places to be if one is looking to have a great time with friends on the weekend or on a Friday night. It is wise to remember however to not go on weekdays or when you have work the very next day as staying in the Nightclub will make hours pass by like minutes. It is also wise to remember to not drive home after coming back from the Nightclub, in an effort to prevent drunk driving.

Other notable points in Norkodsav would be the multiple cinemas, showing movies both in Estonian and in English from around the world. The main cinema branch in Ontorisa is Les Jardins, and there are three Les Jardins in Norkodsav.

Image
The exterior of the Norkodsav Maziska Trofeka
Obviously in Norkodsav, there are skating rinks both located outside and indoors of buildings. The most notable one is the home of the Norkodsav Raiders, the Norkodsav Maziska Trofeka. Being the biggest and most popular place to skate at, the arena is quite large and can fit 7,500 people inside of it. It is the go-to place for watching the Raiders play, or to simply go to learn how to skate during free skate. Another arena is the Augueri Ymiurk Arena, which is used mainly for the Raiders' practices and for the Norkodsav University's games. It can house about 5,000 people and is a more popular destination for university students.

HOUSING

Housing in Norkodsav varies from district to district. On the outskirts of the city, in the upper class suburbs of Clasider and Triysla, houses tend to be expensive, but masterfully built such as this home. However, housing in urban Norkodsav are more congested but colourful as well. Housing tends to be along the lines of apartments such as this apartment or these houses (commonly referred to as Jellybean Houses due to their colours).

When you're here playing for the Raiders however, you're mainly confined to the apartments or the jellybean apartments simply because you are expected to be able to be at the rink a lot. They're quite roomy, although you are expected to take on a roommate, typically a fellow teammate.

TRANSPORTATION

Image
A Public Bus belonging to the Norkodsav Public Transportation Service.
Transportation around Norkodsav is key for anyone wanting to get around without the use of their own car, and the metro system recognizes this issue. With its public bus service able to travel around seamlessly the downtown area of Norkodsav, as well as make trips to the outskirts and other parts of the city, it has become popular with the local populace.

As well, the local taxi service, RarietTaxi, is an efficient service and an alternative mode of transportation. Its fleet mostly consists of 2014 Tosdri SUVs, and is relatively inexpensive when travelling within the downtown area.

The third alternative method of travelling around Norkodsav is the subway system. Sprawling underground the majority of Norkodsav, the subway system is one of the most efficient methods of transportation. With 6 trains and 12 stops, the subway stations are able to be accessed from both street level and from certain buildings in the city.

LAW AND ORDER

Image
Officers of the Norkodsav Politseiosakond.
The local police force of Norkodsav tirelessly patrols the streets so that its citizens can sleep peacefully in their beds. Typically, police patrol in units of 2 officers in order to keep the peace and prevent crime. Due to the efforts of the police force, crime in Norkodsav is relatively low, except in certain bad spots of the city. As well, there are CCTV cameras set up around parts of the city in order to monitor both traffic and potential crime-inducing areas such as banks, to promote both security and safety.

Officers themselves have been trained in Law Enforcement, and have gone through multiple physiological tests to ensure that they are mentally and physically prepared for active duty. In order to prevent any crime, the Norkodsav Politseiosakond recommends that both citizens and visitors:

1. Do not carry or use any firearms.
2. Do not use any prohibited substances such as illegal drugs
3. Do not become publicly intoxicated by using marijuana or alcohol
4. To report any crimes that are committed by dialing 7955 on their cellphone

CLIMATE

The climate in Norkodsav is generally cold year round excluding May to late September. Typically it snows during the months of November to early April before the Spring Thaw occurs. As well, autumn in Norkodsav is short and brisk before the transition to winter. Due to this, Norkodsav does recommend citizens possess shovels or snowblowers to combat the heavy snowfall. Additional data can be seen in the climate graph collected from the nearby town of Save.

BACKGROUND
The Kirde-Mägi Hoki Liigamäng (KMHL; English: North-Eastern Mountain Hockey League) was established in 1980 as a Men's 2nd Tier Professional Hockey League by Vasjakis Iriturk. Initially established as an 8-team league mainly based in the province of Isytarus, with an additional team in Synek. Throughout its existence, the KMHL has had small turnouts of crowds numbering up to 10,000 in their team's small arenas. During its first few seasons, the KMHL struggled and saw 3 of its 8 teams relocate to other Ontorisan cities in order to cut costs. Arguably, the attraction to the 2nd Tier Professional League, did not appeal to the hockey-deprived North-East Ontorisa, but it did appeal across the international border to Ontorisa's neighbour: Eglasour, whose southern cities did not possess any form of hockey. As a result, the KMHL aggressively expanded across the border to 4 cities: Fresirk, Brusjah, Eskiekri and Almsaburg.

The league saw progressively increased reception to its hockey. In 1991, Almsaburg saw increased financial losses and was forced to relocate to Podisyer. From there, the team flourished in the city of Podisyer, even winning the Grajoser Cup in 1996 to increase its popularity. In 1999, the KMHL expanded again, to the cities of St. Luak, Tyriak, Rolmsjov and Verdder due to both the cities' call for hockey and because they presented huge financial opportunities to the league. Since then, the league has been doing well financially and is currently satisfied with the number of teams playing and the format of the league.

As of 2005, the KMHL agreed with a deal with the Lõuna Saared Piirivalve Jäähoki Liigamäng (LSPJL; English: South Isles Border Hockey League), that all KMHL teams will possess a LSPJL affiliate. As a result, teams are permitted to only keep up 20 players, and must send the rest down to the LSPJL. Players who play more than 40 KMHL games must go through waivers before they can be fully sent down.

The regular season consists of 45 games, where each team plays each other 3 times, varying from home and away. There is no relegation in this league, but the top 8 teams face each other in the playoffs for the Grajoser Cup in a Best of 7 series where a team has to win 4 games in order to proceed to the following round.

RULES
The KMHL follows the Standard Ontorisan Professional Hockey Rules and has strict anti-drug and Performance Enhancing Devices policies in effect. As well, fighting is permitted, but is frowned upon by the league, and will eject a player if the player fights two or more times in a single game.

The game is 60 minutes long, divided up into three periods of 20 minutes. If the game is tied, it goes to 3-on-3 overtime, and if overtime does not break the tie, then the game goes into a shootout, until one team wins.

Lines

APPLICATION

Forwards

SNP - Sniper - An accurate and offensive player who sacrifices team play in order to push for that goal that the team needs. As well, snipers tend to not be very physical.

PWF - Power Forward - A good mix between a scorer and a hitter. Power Forwards are not afraid to lay out the body but can also put the puck in the back of the net as well.

PLY - Playmaker - Players who want to move the puck effectively and don’t care too much about giving up the body and not being able to make a hit

TWF - Two-Way Forward - A well balanced build for players who want to be responsible defensively. A great hitter and great at taking faceoffs

GRD - Grinder - A tough player who plays with an edge. Incredibly fast and can make life hard on defense with an aggressive forecheck.

ENF - Enforcer - A player who can’t wait to drop the gloves. Takes the body any chance he gets. His job is get in the other team’s face and just be aggressive in general

Defence

OFD - Offensive Defenceman - Tends to be an active element in both the offensive and defensive aspects of hockey, but can be counted on to be out of position due to the love of carrying the puck and being on offence.

DFD - Defensive Defenceman - A shut down guy who can lower the boom on players with his size and strength.

TWD - Two-Way Defenceman - Can play both sides of the puck. Much like the two-way forward, the two-way d-man is pretty solid in all categories with no stand outs and not many serious flaws.

END - Enforcer Defenceman - Loves to lay the body and make players pay for their decisions. Can count on these guys intimidating the other team but not doing much of anything else.

Goalie

HYB - Hybrid - A mix between the traditional butterfly and stand-up, where the goalie focuses more on athleticism, reaction, save selection and positioning to make saves rather than just using their body. Most common style of hockey goal tending today.

BUT - Butterfly - The style where goalies go down on both pads with their toes pointing outwards and the tops of their pads meeting in the middle, thus closing up the five hole. This results in a "wall" of padding without any holes, lowering the chances of low angle shots getting in. These goalies rely on timing and position.

STU - Stand-Up - The style, goaltenders are to stop the puck from a standing position, not going down. The goalies may bend over to stop the puck with their upper body or may kick the puck. Such saves made by kicking are known as kick saves or skate saves. They may also simply use their stick to stop it, known as a stick save.

Height: 7'1"
Weight: 255

Hockey Information
Position: Defenceman
Playing Style: Hard, fast defenceman with good speed. Loves and is very good at being a human wrecking ball, but can also score pretty well with a good slapper and wrister.

Brief Description of Player's Qualities: High hockey IQ and is very aggressive at both forechecking and backchecking. His aggressiveness usually translates into very strong performance for most of the times, but also causes him to take way too many penalties. This is my kind of RP

Player Application
Basic Information
Name: Johan Lindley
Birthplace: Underfell, Valeria, Greater Anglatia
Appearance:
Image

Age: 20
Nationality: Anglatian(Valerian)
Height: 6'4
Weight: 220

Hockey Information
Position: Defenseman
Playing Style: TWD
High School Team: Outer Underfell Stars
Junior Team: North Valeria Warriors
Professional Team: N/A
Brief Description of Player's Qualities: Johan has good speed but isn't as good at controlling this speed effectively to have good positioning. He played both wing positions in high school but moved to defense in junior hockey because his passing skills are lacking. He's a good shooter who can score off of a dead puck, although he's less skilled at shooting a moving puck. He's someone who takes risks at the expense of potential penalties.

Additional Information: Drafted by the Underfell Vikings of the Imperial Hockey League in Anglatia, in the third round, but didn't make the roster because of off the ice problems involving a messy breakup. He spent a few weeks in prison for assaulting his ex, before it was discovered by video evidence that he was innocent.

I'm thinking he's a second line guy, maybe first line except for the fact that he plays like he's in a video game with his speed and shooting skills

Yeah, during training camp, I'll probably have him on the second pairing with a regular so he gets the feel of KMHL hockey. After that he may either get bumped up, stay in 2nd Pairing or moved down.

Player Application
Basic Information
Name: Jake "Pepper" Sparks
Birthplace: Mars Hill, Nova Capitalia, Northern Sunrise
Appearance:
Image

Age: 19
Nationality: Northern Sunrisian
Height: 6' 1''
Weight: 165

Hockey Information
Position: Left Wing
Playing Style: A traditional Playmaker, he considers himself on a better spot when planning crazy moves over the traditional star spot.
High School Team: Saint Glaceona of the Breeze High at Mars Hill
Junior Team: Bullock State University
Professional Team: N/A
Brief Description of Player's Qualities: A legitimately good passer with a surprisingly good eye-sight, Jake will often try to stick to his strengths, though his moderate speed on ice, which while not good still shows possible progress, could leave him to hitting, something he's really not good at. As is, he does have solid scoring abilities, but he considers that too much of a trouble, preferring being the assister over the scorer.

Additional Information: Pepper is a merry go-round Sunrisian that somehow failed to get into the Northern Sunrisian Hockey League, though his lack of aggression might have done that. With all due honesty, he didn't really mind not being a player, but try after try on getting a job as far as possible from the ice, he would always return. At last, he was somehow drafted by the Norkodsav Raiders as it connections between both countries were doing pretty well after their lacrosse passion met with Sunrisian money at an association of sorts between leagues.

Either that or drafting a guy nicknamed "Pepper" seemed funny.

Well shit, I need something to do while I wait for the WCoH.

Player Application
Basic Information
Name: Lennox School
Birthplace: Dover, Esparmuran
Appearance: This, except imagine the hair being longer, similar to what Jagr has currently.
Age: 21
Nationality: Espar
Height: 5'10
Weight: 171

Hockey Information
Position: RW
Playing Style: PLY
High School Team: Vrå Hovedstæder
Junior Team: University of Bearhampton
Professional Team: N/A
Brief Description of Player's Qualities: School is an entirely offensive player. He's too small and injury-prone to try anything defensively aside from stick checking. What he loses in strength and size he makes up for in his impressive speed and puck-handling. He is an extremely disciplined player, so his chances of taking penalties in general are slim.

Additional Information: School has had an bizzare hockey career. School started in the Vrå Hovedstæder high school team in the capital of Esparmuran. After turning eighteen, he enlisted in the Espar National Team Training Program for the WCoH 26. To his surprise, he was accepted. (In case you're wondering how a high school hockey player ended up playing on a National level team, Esparmuran only has a population of 1200+. Only 6-8 people enroll each year.) Despite being injured in his first game against the Equestrian States, School was very impressive long-term for the team. He currently has ten points (3G,7A) in twenty-six games in the WCoH. After the 29th WCoH, he had been moved down to play in the University of Bearhampton's hockey team for about five games, with one assist. Now, one week after landing a deal with the Syeir Wizards of Ontorisa, he was traded to the Norkodsav Raiders for a third-round pick, to where we are today.

A 24 civilization, according to this index.
Population of 1201.
Land Area: 184,334 km²
HDI: 0.760
Demographics

WCoH 27 Finalists!
Esparmuran is sparsely-populated, freezing wasteland north of the Commonwealth of Crowns. If you like hockey, dog-sledding and clubbing seals, you've come to the right place!
Lead by our Prime Minister, Mr. Jim Oullie, a jolly old man who has no time for your shenanigans.

I have to ask a (maybe) obvious question, is this a Men's League? And are you the one scoring it? How often?

Yes. Whenever the team has a game. Right now it's in training camp/pre-season so there's not an exact date and number of pre-season games available.

I guess I didn't read the OP well enough, my apologies. Thanks for answering, I might give this a shot, depending on how it goes.
