Matchday 7
For all those who are warning Lhorite fans from going too far with feeling optimistic, there’s no denying that Castillas has brought new energy to the club. In the past, they’d just have rolled over after Oberon took the lead on the seventieth minute off of a beautiful Emma Arthur delivery. This time, though, it’s Lhor who brings the thunder in the final twenty minutes, as Embla Avachinsky finds Hong Yeong-Sahm twice in ten minutes for the Orcas to take a key early away test at Tihon. This is Hong’s first season as a starter after being a longtime backup for the Tide, and he made them regret the decision to let him go on this day. “It feels good to beat them in a place I called home for so long,” he admits afterwards, “I will always be grateful, but it’s fun to win.”
A pair of underperforming teams earn good victories, as the Shock put on a clinic in Brisara – the Hammers had absolutely no chance in the match at all – while Janina’s Frenei squad put away a pesky Umbar squad, led by a brace from big signing Jack Reed. Reed’s ability to both create plays and also shoot the ball has been a godsend as the Græntfjaller manager continues to whip the team into shape.
Myana continue their perfect start with a shutout victory at the Flames, rescued by a Enrico goal off the bench that is reminiscent of his prime days, while Urrheddiao outmuscle the Yellow Jackets, whose hot start has all but evaporated. Cunningham rescues the Brewers with a late breakaway to edge Alnio past Lanar – a shame for the Red Hawks, as Liu was only barely being contained by Skenderovic – while Jana Anusic needs to play superhero to help the Monarchs get a point away at the Submarines.
Tihon United and FK Shakhter Z’ai’ai play similar brands of football – physically demanding, fluid counterattacks, and holding onto the lead. In a game between two teams that are starting to make heads turn, it’s the Pyazhnayan club that takes the home victory, courtesy of a Bogolyubsky header; Meledina provided the key assist. The fact that they are ahead of Anomalies, Wirr Tsi, Frenei Tor, Lanar, and a Crossroads team that just dropped a home decision to Felswyr in convincing fashion? Fantastic.
- Jax Hasa stops eleven shots on goal as KCFC ends Z’ai’ai’s perfect start
- QNSC puts Umbar State in their place behind brace, two assists from Du Jia
- BT Ming dominates Breakers as Eulatie Abraham, Francine Shine scores brace apiece
Matchday 8
Let’s start with the story of the hour – Myana has finally dropped points! It’s to the Orcas of all the teams, as Líndís, their out-of-world winger, equalizes seven minutes after a Lavrentiy Xuen-Zhukov strike. Myana bring numbers and impact subs after that, but Mangjeol Eun-Kyung has seven saves in the last twenty minutes, and the Orcas hang on. “It’s too early to start celebrating,” cautions Castillas, “But it’s been wonderful to see the team respond.” Is this finally the season in which the Orcas start over fresh with success?
Tihon – Crossroads has become a really testy rivalry in recent years. There was that season where Justiina Dannysdóttir defeated the Tide in a playoff to decide the final IFCC berth (before the IFCC Berth Playoffs started). There’s no love lost between the sides, and when Pavlo Kornijchuk brings down Marion Goo on a rather hard challenge, Goo retaliates by shoving down Kornijchuk. It takes players from both sides to separate them, and the Referee decides to send them both off the pitch. The Tide get the last laugh with a 4-2 win, with Slazenger grabbing the brace, but almost nobody cares about the result afterwards. “They’re a dirty team, and it’s going to catch up to them before the season is over,” promises Kornijchuk, “The ref was weak for kicking me out when I was the one assaulted. The league is getting soft.” That comment isn’t going to go over well, but at least the Tide were the victors?
As for the controversial penalty kick call, that happened in the second half in the game between the Brewers and the Hammers. Alnio had taken the early lead with a Hammersley goal in transition; Roberts was tackled by Caroline Bérenger around the box, and the referee in charge decided that it had been in the box. Replay showed that it was borderline, but it wasn’t obviously out – so the penalty went through. Roberts converted, and the Hammers had their point.
Urrheddioa has been subject to some very heavy showers in this part of February; with a particularly bad, stormy one hitting the stadium starting seven thirty, United and the Red Hawks are delayed for two hours and thirty minutes before the storm clears enough to allow play. As the road team, the Red Hawks are allowed to decide if they want to play the game or not – they agree, but that ends up being the wrong idea, as it’s United that takes the home win off of a Sara V corner kick. “We were in good shape to play,” promises center back Stanislavovna, “They were just the better team.” Still, maybe next time, Belaustigetigotia and the Red Hawks will take the rescheduling.
Chromatik bounces back from three straight losses by outmuscling the Frost on the road, while FK Shakhter post their second straight clean sheet, this time at Umbar Ultima. Sanar wins a battle of promoted teams as Viscarra scores his first two goals of the season, while Častimir Knežević scores another brace off of the bench for Pria City after Andrea Culvers has a rough game. Should Larrianne just start the sixteen year old instead?
Wirr Tsi can’t hold onto a lead at home, letting the Submarines in before holding onto a draw – all’s not well with the Shock. Then, in a game between two teams finding their footing, Frenei Tor head into Anomaly Tower and emerge the victor – Susan Knight is kept in check by Elyna Reeve and Sarah Reid, while Ainsley Stenhouse scores two goals from range. Janina has Frenei back and running.
- Astronomers blank Red Foxes via Geun’s screamer as Z’ai’ai loses second in a row to cut lead to two
- Alvera Beck’s four goals pace Rhoni City past Ming to move to third in table
- Laitre, Jackals blank Miners in key lower table clash
Matchday 9
Who knew that Myana’s second non-win of the season would be at home against the Monarchs? Though Marko Zup had a brace from range, Anderson Pill, Drew Berrymore, and Hendrix Salvador Cha clawed goals back with help from Jana Anusic, who just makes Pria City tick. The Islanders needed a moment of magic from Lavrentiy Xuen-Zhukov to secure the draw at home.
Urrheddiao’s run at clean sheets continue – but the Hammers also hold firm – as Ines Sheppard is just on it lately, while the only other clean sheet of the day is from Lew Karlov of Frenei Tor. Frenei is finally above .500 as Janina’s squad has won three in a row, their defense finally starting to gel together to a cohesive unit.
In a clash of title favorites, Chromatik host Tihon at the Capitalizt Dome. In his first game at the Dome, Oberon shows up to play, and the wonderkid seventeen-year-old scores a brace in the second half to give Tihon the surprise lead after Rebecca Anne Wawanolett had scored on a rebound in the opening five minutes of the game. Cixin Nguyen does tie it up on a set piece from range, but Oberon had shown that he can show up in a big match, while also keeping Tihon ahead of Chromatik on the table for now.
Wirr Tsi is starting their long journey up the table, starting with a road win over the Flames where they scored half as many goals as they had scored up to this point. Sara Kristoffersdóttir had a brace and two assists in a show of brilliance. Anomalies are held at bay on the road by the Pyazhnayans, Anja Zoric’s effort just barely helping the team hold onto the point – while Urrhed FC and the Submarines have Archer Wheelock score from range to hold the Brewers to a single point.
Tihon United’s Lamorak helps the Cyclones to a road draw at the Red Hawks, and Umbar picks up their second win of their campaign as Kahelto’s brace helps Kikyo’s charge.
- Haggard, Morton lead way as Mountaineers hammer Red Foxes for six goals on the day
- Churchill’s header helps Warriors to draw in Knetyohai Derby
- Meyer paces Anchors past Urrhed State
Matchday 10
As for Wirr Tsi, their demise was, once again, told too early. Evidenced by a thorough drubbing of the Islanders at home (Myana’s first loss of the year), the Shock reminded everyone of their championship pedigree. The combination of Moira Ansov and Wan Sheping managed to hold Laborious Hawk at bay, and Sara Kristoffersdóttir continued her brilliant run of form with an assist and two goals as the Shock move back to the north side of the table. It may not be the usual Shock of old, but they do know how to win big games…
As does the Tide, who’ve really started to heat up now. Taking down Frenei is no easy feat these days, and with the quality that Tihon has at midfield – Lotte, Arthur, Ophélie – they have so many capable shooters on the field that it’s crazy. “Why not us?” inquires Ophélie after the match – and there isn’t really a good answer.
Ines Sheppard makes it five clean sheets in a row – and seven out of the first ten – as van Kalvenhaar’s acquisition is really starting to bear fruit for United in the Urrheddiao Derby, while Zubin Divya of Brisara FC is instrumental in causing two key deflections to hand the Hammers a shutout win over the Cyclones.
Lhor’s good start runs into a bind as the Monarhcs come calling, Jana Anusic curving in a beautiful shot two minutes after Hong had equalized, while Sanar and Umbar pull off shock wins, the Red Hawks being overwhelmed by the Monkeys’ midfield while Nur is outdone by Qiao. Alnio’s Skenderovic proves why he was paid so much with a clinical brace over the Flames – dropping them to the bottom of the table – and Felswyr’s counterattacks yield a grace from Pellerin as FK Shakhter cannot keep up.
- Kystebo, Meyer score brace apiece as Anchors pummel Z’ai’ai to draw within a point
- Eulatie Abraham scores hat trick in second half as BT Ming overcome Omnio scare
- Yi, Crix move to fourth with shutout over Lorentine Jackals
Matchday 11
Myana has run into a hard run of form, dropping yet another draw – this time against the Brewers. Though new Tumbran winger Hardaker has her best game of the season so far, Cunningham matches her goal for goal as Alnio remains relevant. The Myana that started the season 6-0-0 has been replaced by 1-3-1 – a far cry from where they started. This allows for Tihon to take the lead by Goal Differential, earned on a testy away game at FK Shakhter Z’ai’ai, as Oberon provides the only goal on an assist from Emma Arthur.
Of all the teams in the league, Flames of the West were the ones to stop Urrheddiao’s five-game clean sheet streak as Rasmus Hourihane won a scrum in front of the United goal. United weren’t able to respond – their biggest issue remains goalscoring, having the worst mark in the league at only seven scored in eleven matches. Sanar’s Qiao pitches her second straight clean sheet to outmuscle Felswyr, while Lanar and Anomalies play to a frustrating nil-nil result that saw all eighteen shots on goal miss the mark between both teams.
Tihon United’s fast start in the Red League has been replaced by a downturn as the Submarines’ Harringborn leads the way to a three-nil victory, while Brisara FC turns in their second straight win in a row in a surprising home tie against the Monkeys.
That leaves the two most entertaining matches on the day. At the Capitalizt Dome, Chromatik get out of their goalscoring slump, Cixin Nguyen assisting on three as Marinca and James both score braces. Lhor are able to get three in, but three isn’t enough on the day. Nine goals are scored in a highly entertaining affair in Tor – Stenhouse with a brace and an assist to pace Frenei – as the Crusaders come out on top, led by Kayla Kassaya and Kate Archer, the duo combining for five total. How are both of these teams just below midtable?
- Xiang, Burton lead Miners FC past KCFC for second win of season
- Z’ai’ai lose top spot as Yaroslavich leads Ming with brace
- Gonzalez shines as Rhoni FC runs past QNSC
Matchday 12
Myana complete a rather frustrating stretch of play with yet another draw - this time against one of their old rivals in Urrheddiao. Laborious Hawk's brilliance was able to net them the one goal needed for the away draw, but the Islanders are simply not clicking at the moment - unlike the Tide, who dispatch Sanar behind Oberon's brace (including his tenth goal of the season) to take the lead atop the table. Chromatik outclass Frenei to return to within striking distance of the lead position, Sophie Singh really picking it up in the last few games.
Lhor's fallen, but it's to be expected. Playing the tougher teams of the league will do that to a team, and they made it a game against the Shock. Loeher's brace led the way for Wirr Tsi, who will be hoping that the remaining games of the first half will see them cemented in the top five before making the charge up the table in the second leg of the season. The Frost put Lanar far down the table while remaining in the top ten, while Crossroads manage to put away a Shakhter squad that's become a tricky matchup for almost anyone.
Anomalies win what was basically a must-win game, as Berenguer responds to criticism with a brilliant second half; at Umber Ultima, Submarine Striker Cordelia Norwood has a tantalizing hat trick before the youngster Myhre scores the game winner. Lastly, with no Janina to lead them, the Flames are used by the Cyclones as a chance to get back to winning ways - which Tihon United converts without much trouble.
Standings after Twelve Games:
Red League Pld W D L GF GA GD PtsA dismal stretch by Myana sees Tihon grab pole position for now, with Chromatik within striking distance. The other shoe will eventually drop for Sanar, but they definitely don't look like a promoted squad. Urrheddiao's defense remains as stellar as ever, while Pria City and Alnio sure know how to score goals. Felswyr continue to punch above their weight, while Wirr Tsi has made a point to bounce back. Lhor has fallen back to earth, but are doing better than what people expected - which can't be said for Crossroads, despite them winning a few of their last games.

Urrhed FC has done enough to stabilize, while Frenei Tor remain very unbalanced; as is Anomalies, who still can't score to save their lives. FK Shakhter 'zi'ai ai are doing enough to stay afloat, while Tihon United have some reason to be disappointed in their results thus far. Brisara FC have clawed their way back to playoff position, while Umbar, Lanar, and Flames of the West have roughly two thirds of their season to figure out how to survive.
- Dostoevich hat trick helps Omnio to fourth place
- Kystebo, Meyer score in injury time as Anchors FC outlasts Knetyohai
- Pirreault, Pùr upset Umbar State
Standings after Twelve Games:
Orange League Pld W D L GF GA GD PtsTo see Knetyohai and Knetyohai City FC so low on the table is so strange, but the top three deserve it. What results is a Group Stage draw for the ages - can you imagine these teams playing each other four times in a year instead of just the two?
