GCF World Twenty20 Championship VIII [everything thread]

Postby Liventia » Thu Mar 24, 2016 2:12 pm

The Liventian Cricket Board of Authority and the Mattijana Cricket Federation would like to welcome 22 other teams to Liventia and Mattijana for what will hopefully be an unforgettable eighth Global Cricket Federation World Twenty20 Championship.

The CBA would like to remind all participating nations of the tournament regulations:

The 24 teams will be seeded and drawn into four groups of six, playing each other once. The top four teams from each group will qualify for the second round.

The draw pots are as follows:
Pot 1: Barunia (2), Wray (4), Liventia (5 - cohost), Mattijana (UR - cohost)
Pot 2: Ko-oren (7), San Jose Guayabal (8), Jeckland (10), Eura (12)
Pot 3: Eastfield Lodge (13), Yttribia (19), Damukuni (19), Elejamie (19)
Pot 4: Krytenia (19), United States of Devonta (53), Bendicion (UR), Ethane (UR), Amazonesta (UR), Sacheyenya (UR), West Phoencia (UR), Allied Omaha (UR), Silvacometopia (UR), Schiavonia (UR), Slashka (UR), Mareut (UR)
One team from Pots 1 to 3 will be drawn into each group. Three teams from Pot 4 will then be drawn into each group.

Two points will be awarded for a win and one point for a tie. Group stage tiebreakers are as follows: points, wins, net run rate. As it is single round-robin, head-to-head will not be used to decide ties.

If a knockout match is tied, the winner will be decided by a Super Over, scorinated using a modified xkoranate cricket file. If there is still an unlikely tie, whichever side lost fewer wickets in the match will be the winner. If the sides are still level, a coin toss will decide the winner.

The Decision Review System will not be in use.

Teams may include a style modifier between ±3.

Mattijanan Roster

The Mattijana Cricket Federation (MKB) presents its team for the 8th T20 Championships and the first involving a Mattijanan side. The team will also get the oppurtunity to play on home soil as Mattijana has agreed a deal to host the tournament.

Colours: Light green with light yellow trim around lower body and arms.

Head Coach: Dominik Maestri
A former batsman for Petrovijanka KB, Dominik Maestri retired at the age of 38 and moved straight into coaching, becoming the batting specialist for the under 21 side at the same club. Following success for the team in the domestic Under 21 T20 championships, Maestri was promoted to batting coach of the first team and then head coach 4 years later. He spent 5 years as head coach of Petrovijanka KB, winning 2 T20 domestic titles as well as a 5 day title.
After finishing his 5th season, he was offered the International job and began his preparation for the T20 championships.

Players:

Mattijana has put out a mixture of experience and youth for the competition. Opening batsmen, Julian Illicič and Ivalyo Radoslavjevič are old hands in the domestic league whilst the middle order contains some up-and coming powerhouses who are no strangers to hitting the ball high into the stands, or in the case of the Stadijo Ižola, onto the beach.
All rounder, Fredi Gluckspiel is one to watch in the side. When on form, he is vitually unstoppable with both bat and ball, but due to his mercurial nature, he has earned himself the nickname "Glucksmann" (man of luck). In any case, you never know what you're going to get.
The bowling attack is geared mainly towards the lush and temperate climate in most of the country which rewards good swing and seam bowling. Although not in abundance throughout the country, there are sufficient spinners to bolster the attack in drier areas such as Puljanka, and in the pitch in Matbirjke, which is less grown up due to its position in the mountains.

Captain: Mattias Karamov (seam bowler).

Style: +2

Specialist Batsmen:
Julian Illicič (Right-hander)
Ivalyo Radoslajevič (Left-hander)
Marko Žackov (Right-hander)
Ales Kaufmann (Right-hander)
Jakob Dobravski (Left-hander)
Martin Kramarič (Right-hander)

All Rounders:
Fredi Glukspiel (Left-hand batting+Left-arm seam/pace)
Dominik Smitek (Right-hand batting+right-arm medium-pace

Wicket Keepers:
Ali Makarena (Left-hand batting)
Jos Illicič (Right-hand batting)

Bowlers:
Mattias Karamov (Right-arm seam)
Kasenka Riegler (Left-arm pace/seam)
Dani Komarov (Right-arm seam)
Grigor Turnus (Left-arm leg-spin)
Mattias Googlov (Right-arm off-spin)

Starting XI:

1: Julian Illicič
2: Ivalyo Radoslavjevič
3: Marko Žackov
4: Ales Kaufmann
5: Jakob Dobravski
6: Fredi Glukspiel
7: Ali Makarena (WK)
8: Mattias Karamov (C)
9: Kasenka Riegler

11: Mattias Googlov

Liventia's Cricket Board of Authority have named an 18-man squad for the eighth World Twenty20 Championship. It will be captain Matthew Geach's final limited-overs international tournament, as he seeks to prolong his Test match bowling career. It is an ageing side, but one that has played together for a long time and therefore well versed with each other as teammates on and off the field. There are only two new faces in the squad – Zac Owen, a 24-year-old middle-order batsman; and 19-year-old Francis Kennedy, touted as Liventia's next big spin king who will no doubt be looking to learn from one of the best in Daniel Quinn.

Cricket is a fairly new sport to Elejamie, with the first match on Elejamian soil being played in 1960. However, it wasn't until 1967 that a national side was formed and 1974 when the first domestic match was played, between Aventry and Surter, with Aventry winning by seven wickets. In 1987, a small cricket tournament - the Cross-Tractal Cup - was played, with Wyken winning all of their group games against East Reise, Nuevo Paraíso and Mittedorf before beating Aventry in the semi-final and Autumnia in the final (Autumnia would later go on to win the 1989 edition). Three more editions were played before the tournament was cancelled in 1991 for unknown reasons, with West Reise (who had won the trophy in 1988 and 1990) being allowed to keep it.

However, despite its short run, it still managed to draw a considerable amount of fans and, after plenty of delays, the Elejamian Cricket League - a Twenty20 tournament - was formed in 2005. Beginning on the third Saturday in April, the tournament sees eighteen teams (the only tracts not taking part in the tournament are Valledorado and the Elephant Isles, although there are plans for them to join the league by 2020), split into two groups of nine depending on whether they're on the Eastern or Western half. After playing each other once, the top four in each group then advance to another two groups (again, depending on whether or not they're on the Eastern or Western sides) where they'll play each other twice, home and away. The winners of each group would then face each other in the Grand Final, whereas both runners-up will compete for the Bronze Cup; both matches are played best of five. Aventry (who plays in the Eastern Group) won the inaugural tournament, losing their first two games but going on to win their series against neighbours Burnett (who play in the Western Group) 3-2; Keene District won the Bronze Cup thanks to a 3-1 series win over Rosetta. Currently, Nuevo Paraíso are the ECL champions, winning their Grand Finals series against Western Group Champions Mittedorf 3-1, whereas Surter swept Eastern Elejamie to take home the Bronze Cup. A women's edition of the tournament began in 2012, with Mittedorf winning the Grand Final, where they swept Birch State, whereas Autumnia beat Swannings 3-2 to win the Bronze Cup; the current EWCL champions are Rosetta (thanks to a 3-2 series win over Surter), whereas Burnett are current Bronze Cup holders (where they beat Aventry 3-1).

In the last World Twenty20 Championships, Elejamie's campaign got off to a great start with a couple of victories over the United States of Devonta and Democratic India in Group C. However, losses in their next three matches against Shtiar Bakal, hosts Liventia and Patistan saw them slip from second in their group to a measly fourth. And things went from bad to worse when, in the plate section of the tournament, they lost again to Eura (who went on to win it, whereas Wray - who topped Group D, only losing to Sjovenia - went on to win the tournament). Will Elejamie overcome this and make it to the second round? Or will they be set up for even more disappointment?

Don't kill any of my players. If you do want to injure any of them, then you can only injure one of them per game and they can miss up to two games (meaning you can't do anything career-ending). Other than that, go nuts.

Hopefully this is alright. Any problems with this, please let me know so I can go back and take out, change or put in anything that needs to be done.

Saying that, thanks to Barunia for giving me a bit of advice, especially with my batting order.

This is your RP cutoff for groups A, B and C for the first day.

Welcome to Mattijana for the first day of the 8th World T20 Championship. We're looking forward to a great opening day of Cricket and here's a picture of the Stadijo Ižola in Revinka where Barunia, the World number 2's, will get their campaign underway to get you in the mood.

Season Two of Cricket in the Union

Cricket is a sport that has massively grown after being regulated by a Union-wide association. It grew rapidly to become one of the so-called Top 8: a group of eight leagues that draw the most fans and have the highest revenue. Out of the Top 8, Cricket's 14 T20 teams are worth less than the average team in any of the other sports, but the average attendance at a T20 match is higher than the average attendance for three out of the seven other sports. While this barely puts it in the Top 8, the addition of ODI and Test Cricket give the sport a little extra.

Cricket is mainly played in Ko-oren and the Dragonfly Islands, in Waratah, Fern, Protea and Milyu, and in Irisia, Taloren and Arhoria, and on the Nine Sisters. These also compete as 'national' teams in the ODI competition, where also Dendronesia and Seiranesia compete. In Test, it's all about the Crux nations of Waratah, Fern, Protea and Milyu. Other nations have recently started playing Test matches.

Ko-oren's Aubury has won the championship during the second season. They won 11 out of 13 matches, just losing to Cadmire and Mawrystwyth. Mawry, from the Dragonfly Islands, came second at 9 wins. Cadmire, Narrawoo and New Bogota completed the top five at eight wins each. Ko-oren also dominated in ODI, where particularly the Crux nations did poorly. Milyu came fourth, Fern and Waratah sat at sixth and seventh with four wins in nine matches, and Protea was second last at three wins.

With the great season, Ko-oren's Aubury supplies three players to the national team: batswoman Rosella Hougham and bowlers Alice Scott and Bella Treloar. In comparison, Mawry Cricket Club supplies just one player in spite of their great season and second place finish. This is star bowler Rhain Roberts. Cadmire, in third place, is represented by three players again: the sisters Amara, Viansola and Laerdya, and Yllacaryn Endrin. These seven players have been in form all season and should be something to look out for. Viansola Amara is the projected starting batswoman, and Rhain Roberts and Alice Scott are expected to both bowl three to four overs each per match.

Lastly, we look at the interesting case of Genyarus Halueth. He's playing for Safirond, coming in last in the T20 season, but Halueth individually was fairly productive, and in the national team he is the eighth batsman and the fourth bowler in terms of projected overs bowled per match.

In total, these eight players should make for an interesting team to watch. And then we haven't touched on the captain, Axel Oshea, the allrounder from Narrawoo (4th). Not the best bowler, but a decent batsman and a great figure on the team. He is great in the mental department and often bowls when the regular bowlers need time to breathe or recompose themselves.

These players, along with six more, have been picked to represent the Union of Ko-oren after a great season of Cricket. The players are in great form, which they showed in the last few months, and definitely want to leave a good impression in the World Championship. The team is currently seventh in the world, and the fourth ranked team in the tournament with some big name absences, so the opportunity is there to finish off a fantastic season with a fantastic World Championship campaign!

Flying Start For Mattijana

Mattijana got their debut world T20 campaign underway with a comfortable win against Amazonesta under the floodlights in Petrovijanka. Having scored 158 after their 20 overs, they comfortably kept their opponents down to just 107 with the ball.

Both sides suffered batting collapses during their innings, but it was ultimately the timing of these breakdowns that was decisive. Mattijana made 140 for the loss of 4 before losing 5 wickets in their last 4 overs for just 18 runs. Marko Žackov was the star man, scoring 62 before eventually holing out at long-on.
In fact it was after this wicket that things started to go downhill for the team. Jakob Dobravski was bowled for 5 before Ali Makarena went trying to slog-sweep for a 4 ball duck. Mattias Karamov put up some resistance as he powerfully square-cut for 6 with his second ball, but then mistimed a drive and was well caught by a leaping mid-on fielder.

That took Mattijana to 146/7 after 18 overs. Kasenka Riegler was next to go as he was run out for 1. Fredi Gluckspiel then managed to get Mattijana to a more respectable total as he hit a 4 and a 6 before edging the final ball through to the keeper for 11.

Mattijana Innings:

Batsman How out Total FOW
Julian Illicič Caught and bowled 41 65/1
Ivalyo Radoslavjevič Bowled 30 71/2
Ales Kaufmann Caught (Cow Corner) 7 125/3
Marko Žackov Caught (Long-on) 62 140/4
Jakob Dobravski Bowled 5 140/5
Ali Makarena Caught (square leg) 0 140/6
Mattias Karamov Caught (Mid-on) 6 146/7
Kasenka Riegler Run out 1 147/8
Fredi Gluckspiel Caught (WK) 11 158/9

Mattijana then had a bowl. Comentary from Jonas Agniov of an extraordinary second over:

"Good first over for Mattijana, just the 4 runs coming from it. Karamov's going to turn to the pace of Kasenka Riegler for this other opening over.
4 for no wicket-here come Riegler, up to the wicket, he bowls now and HE'S BOWLED HIM! Mattijana have the breakthrough. Full, straight and he's absolutely done the batsman for pace. First ball of Riegler's over and Amazonesta are 4-1.
Excellant start for Riegler, here he comes again bowls and this time it's a big swipe from the batsman and he's got lucky there. They'll get a single down to deep backward square leg off the toe end of the bat. Amazonesta move to 5-1 off 1.2 overs.
Here's Riegler again, he's hit him on the pad, big appeal...GIVEN! Riegler has his second! Looks plum LBW to me and Amazonesta's second has to walk.
5-2 now, Riegler again bowls and just misses the outside edge! Appeal from Makarena, I don't think there's anything going there though.
4 balls of the over gone and already 2 wickets down. Here he is again bouncer BOWLED AGAIN! He's played on! Batter tried to sway out of the way through the bat at it late and bottom edged it onto the stumps. What an over this is from Riegler.
1.5 overs gone. Amazonesta 5-3. Riegler for the final ball of the over and finally someone gets a bat on it. The ball comes out to mid-off and there's no run. Incredible over from Kasenka Riegler. Too much pace, straight enough to trouble the stumps and he's got the reward."

4 overs, 1 maiden-5 wickets-12 runs final figures for Riegler.

Woodham receives congratulations after a LYPL walk-off innings between the West Bay Lady Dolphins and the East Town Lady Eagles in 2014. The ill-fated LYPL, the women's equivalent of the Yerfilag Premier League, only lasted three matches.

Player Spotlight
Jemimah Woodham

Quick Stats
Age: 19
Height: 172 cm
Position: All-rounder
Career matches: 11 (6 won)
National team: 8 (4 won)
Jemimah Woodham is an exceptional cricketer both for her age and for her batting and bowling prowess. Her career started at the secondary school level, where, in her first year, she helped the Queenston Federated School Lady Tigers beat out the West Bay Union High Lady Marauders in an astounding six-wicket win in the 2010 Eastern Regional Finals, where she bowled 3 for only 19 in the space of 3.0 overs (6, 11, and 18). While the team lost in the National Semis, the Lady Tigers became a fighting force in South Otselician women's cricket.

Four years later, after Damukunian independence, the Board of Control of Cricket in Damukuni (now the Damukuni Football Association) established the Yerfilag Premier League Twenty20, with eight teams across Yerfilag, and a women's league, the Ladies' Yerfilag Premier League, with four teams all based in Damukuni. Woodham joined with the Lady Dolphins of West Bay, which won two of its three matches before the leagues were scrapped due to lack of a fan base.

However, with the Damukunian national team, formed for participation in the World T20, Woodham helped her team win 5 of the last 9 matches, including the latest against Slashka. In that match, she posted a total of 47 (26) before being put out (lbw) in the 9th over.

Barunia got their World Cup campaign off to a stuttering start, suffering a 37 run defeat. The Blues looked strong early on, with Nick Jones taking a wicket on the third over. By the end of the 5th over, Jones had got two and Doveson had snagged one from his first, to leave Allied Omaha reeling at 36/3. Barunian captain Doveson came on for another over, but this time his Omaha counterpart was waiting. Opening up with a big six straight back down the ground, Omaha's captain then followed it up with three consecutive boundaries. For the next few overs it was all Omaha's way, the only highlight for Barunia being a wicket to Colin Morgan, the Omahan wicketkeeper dismissed by an amazing effort at cover by Mitchell Smith.

As Omaha's captain raced by 50, the score blew out to 109/4. at the halfway mark. Barunia needed good bowling from here on in, but Doveson was left stranded looking for options to provide it. Jones and Morgan were done, so it fell to James Rickards and Craig Nichel. However, the pair were wayward, sending down far too many loose deliveries that were dispatched to the boundary. Dispensing with pace, Doveson brought himself back on, and also tried part-time off-spinner Luke Delaney as he sought to break a partnership that threatened to take the score past 200. Doveson finally broke through, trapping his man lbw, and got the captain in the same over, afer he played one big shot too many. However, the damage was done, and after Adams went for 18 in his final over, Rickards tidy 4 of the last and a run-out from Long seemed meaningless, as Allied Omaha soared to 183/7.

In reply, Barunia started strong, Doveson taking only three overs to amass 21. However, that was all he made. Price and Long built a meaningful partnership, taking the score to 63/1 before Price fell. Polkemore entertained with two massive sixes, before holing out to midwicket. This triggered a collapse, as Smith (0), Delaney (4), and Rickards (8) all departed within the space of three overs.
Long, having amassed only 29, built a partnership with Morgan to try and get the Barunians back on track, but the damage was done. When Long fell in the 17th over just one short of his half century, it was up to Morgan and debutante Nichel. He was almost out next ball, being trapped on the pad, but it was ruled to have been missing leg. Next over though, Nichel blasted out of the gate, throwing the bat at everything. He missed twice, but did connect for two massive sixes. Morgan added some boundaries of his own to give the Blues fans something to cheer about, but it was too little too lat, the Barunians falling short by 37 runs.

Jeckish dressing room, Stadijo Birjkenluft

"WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!"

Silence. The captain was known for his explosive hitting on the pitch, but within the dressing room Mykyta Jorda was known for something else explosive; his temper. Nobody dared answer him in fear of stoking the flames of anger.

"Sivacometopia" he muttered. "SILVACOMETOPIA! WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT FOR A COUNTRY? A COUNTRY THAT JUST HUMILIATED US! THEY MAY AS WELL HAVE SHAT ON OUR FUCKING FLAG!"

Silence. They let him have his rant, for they knew they had, for want of a better phrase, massively fucked this up. This was supposed to be the glorious return for Jeckish cricket, nay, Jeckish sport itself. They walked onto that pitch favourites. Leaders of hope, and then it all went wrong.

Wallace opened the bowling for Jeckland. He steamed in for the first ball, and proceeded to wildly fling a delivery down the leg side, past the despairing dive of Quincy and away to the rope. The umpire singalled a wide. This was a symbol of things to come.

That first over was hit for 16. The powerplay went for 52 with no loss. The Jeckish players looked shellshocked, as their scatter gun bowling was latched onto mericlessly by the opening batsmen.

McFarland and Skala gained some control, but the wheels had been set in motion for a monster Silvacometopian total. And so it transpired that Jeckland, in their glorious comeback match, would be chasing 193 to win.

Within 10 overs that chase was over. Jeckland were 57-5, after what can only be described as some of the most appalling shot selection seen in recent times on the national cricket circuit. This was exemplified by Kruger, usually one of the more sensible cricketers in the Jeckish team, attempting to reverse sweep a yorker from a pace bowler, resulting in his middle stump on the floor. Jorda and Barta batted to the end admirably, but had no chance at all of chasing down the total, or even making the scoreline respectable.

Jeckland now face an ugly uphill fight to remain in the competition. Their next match will be against Bendicion, one which they might have been expected to win before today. However, after today's shocking performance, Jeckland's stay at the World T20 could be short and ugly.

"Nice tree you've found there," Janina Lehmann muttered as the team sat down to discuss their next move.
The rest of the team, including head coach Patrick Tracey, exchanged a good laugh as they took their places in its shade and broke out their picnic lunch.
"All right, guys, calm down. We have a lot to work on going into our hardest match yet." Tracey paused for a moment, looking at his players. They were jittery, but attentive, as they sat before him. With all the energy they've been able to work up as they continue to barrel-roll their way through this qualifying group, I wonder what if I say will matter much. He dismissed that with a quick nod of his head.
"So we managed to get 2 out of 5 teams out of the way. But the real decider as to if we make it into Supers is probably going to come through this match." He ran a hand through his hair as he wrote some of Ko-oren's statistics down:

304 RUNS
37.1 OVERS
= 8.17 RUN RATE

"So our run rate is a bit better than theirs, and that's because we have our star all-rounder going in at 4..." He paused to think about this. Jemimah shifted uncomfortably as she listened, thinking this would be her downfall. She had racked up so many tournament runs as an all-rounder going in early.
"... nah, scratch that; you're still going in at 4," Tracey replied, as if he could read his young protégé's mind. Jemimah sighed loudly in relief.
This was more than the team could take, and they just burst out laughing. At that moment, the bus pulled up to cart them off to the pitch for warm-ups.
