[Drawkland]

WELCOME to the First International Marching Arts Association WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS!

This Drum and Bugle Corps competition will take place over 3 nights {IC'ly}, featuring 13 Corps in Preliminary & Semifinal competition, and 10 in Finals competition! There is a 10 corps cutoff in Semifinals, so the 3 lowest-scoring corps in the Semifinals round will be eliminated from competition and will not compete in finals. However, every corps is guaranteed to march at least twice. This IS the Final Competition, and thus, first place will be the First IMAA Champion Corps!


Venue and Schedule



The IMAA stays in Drawkland for the World Champs, playing in Metro Arena in Drawkland's capital, Metropolon. This indoor stadium was invented to be multipurpose, as the Drawkland Drum Corps Confederation usually holds their national finals in the stadium. The sound from the corps usually encapsulates the entire stadium, filling it with music. The echoes after an impact are some of the most incredible known to man. The stadium has a capacity of about 55,000 seats, and about 25,000 seats will be available to view the corps. Most other seats will be hidden by a massive veil to keep corps in the forefront.

Below Metro Arena is a storage/parking/conference block. There are several expansive rooms for corps to do visual warmups, and soundproofed conference rooms where corps can do musical warmups. Drumlines and percussions will warm up outside. Warmup sessions are open to the public, and fans may view corps as they prepare to perform. Corps will enter the northwest corner of the field and exit the northeast corner of the field, in any manner they desire, as long as they don't accrue any timing or field penalties.

Each Corps will have 15 minute blocks. If they are on the green of the field before or after the time cutoff, they will suffer a 1-point penalty.

Corp History

In earlier Drawkian history, the Spartans were a highly-trained group of soldiers who were the “elite force” of the Drawkian military. They were held in high esteem by the Supreme Drawkionel Iarocav. Their facility of training and lodging was located in a valley a few miles out from Sadeg, Iarocavet.

Once music and drumming because a predominant part of Drawkian culture, the Spartans, during peacetime, decided to take up the activity, and created the Sadeg Spartans, one of Drawkland’s first organized Corps.

A few centuries later, when organized Drum Corps competed, the Sadeg Spartans were the first champion of the National circuit. They have a tradition of excellence and fast-paced, technical music. The one thing they aren’t known for is their colorguard, but their Percussion and Brass are world-class.

After a loss by a fraction of a point to the Diamond Delta in the Baptism of Rhythm Finals, the Sadeg Spartans have sworn vengeance on the Xhay corps, and they might cause a riot if they're beaten again.

Corp History

The Drawk Corps is an organization as old as the nation itself. It was originally formed by Iarocav at a young age, before he was in the running to become the leader of Drawkland. Its original purpose was to be an organization of people, like a club or sorts, or just a general non-miltant Corps of people with similar interests. At first, with Iarocav's hand, it began as a set of businesses performing various services. Iarocav wanted to use it as a model for all of Drawkland, a self-sufficient and harmonious community. Years down the road, when bugling, drumming, and general musical skill became revered and commonplace, the Drawk Corps formed the Drawk Corps Drum Corps, out of their musically-inclined members.

They were part of the "Big 5," or the first 5 major drum corps in Drawkland. The first and most predominant corps, of course, were the Sadeg Spartans, but for a long time in the early history, the Spartans and Drawk Corps were friendly rivals, with the Spartans taking the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 8th Drawkland Drum Corps Championships, and the Drawk Corps taking the 2nd, 3rd, 7th, and 10th. The Drawk Corps is easily considered Drawkland's best, if not at least one of the best.

Their General Effect is a powerhouse on both fronts, however, their other captions are rather mediocre, besides Percussion, which is rather above average, and their Colorguard, which is rather ... "trash," as it's described by rival Corps.

CORPS HISTORY
The Rocavia Goldcoats (Or simply, The Goldcoats) was a founding member of the Xhayparia League of Marching Performance (XLMP), and has been one of the top 10 corps for the Outer-Sonnel Drum Corps Association (OSDCA), making finals every time from the past 15 annual competitions. Founded in Daheetosch, Rocavia, Xhayparia, Sonnel, it's considered to be one of the local's fan favourites.

The Corps is named for the province of Xhayparia, as well as Rocavia's colour on it's provincial flag.

The Goldcoats are an above average corps, doing well in all captions.

The World Finals are the GC's first non-Xhay competition.

THE LINE-UP HAS BEEN LISTED....

With the lineup for the IMAA World Finals listed, Conductor Veli Neestreh was pumping up the Goldcoats.

"Okay, gang. This is our time to shine. This is our first world class competition, and we aren't about to make it small in comparison. Remember, there are two of the Xhay corps out there tonight, which are us, and Diamond Delta. Delta has there eyes set on the gold, or at least to beat the Spartans from Drawkland. So lets set our goal on defeating DCDC tonight. We're gonna send a message."

Just then, Veli put his helmet on and called for the total attention stance.

"GOLD! A-TEN HUT!"

Like a machine, the entirety of the Goldcoats sprang to Attention.

Veli turned around, clapped a beat, as the drummers began their cadence. As the Corps marched to Metro Arena, they began to feel a little intimidated by the more popular, much larger corps beside them. But they all knew they had a job to do.

As the Goldcoats reached the field, the roar of applause filled their ears. Some were nervous, anxious, others felt adrenaline and excitement. Time to show what Xhayparia had to offer.

The announcer introduced the Corps to the audience:

"Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome to the field, from Daheetosch, Rocavia, Xhayparia, The Goldcoats!"

Veli reached the top of the podium, the Euphoniums paced the props, and the drumline finished their cadence. The Guard was waiting to for their time, as the trumpet section leader conducted the pre-show. As the soft bell-tones of the marimba carried through the stadium, the announcer called out:

"Conductor Veli Neestra, is your Corps ready?"

That's when Veli gave the salute (Located Here)

The crowd grew to a silence, and all that was heard were the soft tones of the pre-show, and the final announcement as the corps marched to their true show starting position...

"Performing their program "Blackest Night", the I.M.A.A. is proud to present...

The Goldcoats!"

And the first note hit.

The performance had begun.

[Sacheyenya]

Introducing, the Raven Corps!

Natives of the Sacheyenyani capital tribe of Khaiful, the Raven Corps were formed during the Sacheyenyani revolution as a means of spreading messages throughout the underground via parades. Their sound would allow citizens to know when a battle was set to occur, and when to get away. Following the end of the war, they were one of many bands called upon to hold a parade at the coronation of the new king, Sarko Dyanu. They were called upon once again to parade for the newest King, Sarko's successor, Tal'eu.

They have won no awards, as the idea of competitive marching is only very recent to Sacheyenya, and they've had the opportunity only to practice for the upcoming competition. This is their first competition, and they are set to win.

The Performance

They were the first scheduled to perform, and they were certainly ready to shine. When they arrived in Drawkland, the drum majors, Zidanee MacMulan and Makela Hambdon, were sure to keep the band in top shape. They were primmed, and the initial nerves they had had upon their arrival had disappeared. As the moment neared for them to begin, the corps took formation, and prepared to take the field. The performance, in truth, began before the performance itself, when they were marching to the stadium. Their cadence was 'Mars, Bringer of War', and it was rumbling beautifully in the drum majors' ears. They'd thought themselves awefully clever for adapting Gustav Holst's pieces into marches.

"From Khaiful, Kaiful, Sacheyenya, our first act of the show, he Raven Corps, performing their reimagining of The Planets, by Gustav Holst!" They entered their starting positions, marxhing as though a Roman Centurion to fit the music, and took attention, the War Bringer slowly drumming to an end. The color guard, which had held their flags like rifles, snapped the first salute.

"Directors Zidanee and Makela, is your corps ready?" They gave their own salute. It was elaborate and flashy, meant to impress.

Before they knew it, the show had begun. What had been the militaristic tone of Mars, the War Bringer, melted and softened into a gentle brass chorale adaptation of Venus, the Peace Bringer, and the performance began in earnest.

[Alphatheta]

Nation: People's Republic of Alphatheta
Corp: Uostas Squadra
Uniform: Dress greens

Corp History: While formal competition hasn't historically been well-known in Alphatheta, the armed forces have a long history of fairly proficient corps. The corps have traditionally been made up of new recruits who have begun their service before the traditional age of joining. Regional corps often send their best and most talented to the largest military bases in the nation's coastal region, located just outside of Uostas.

Although none of the corps are known for their proficiency with music, the colorguard is known regionally for precision performances and the percussion for being loud. Uostas Squadra doesn't have a competitive history of, say, winning, but the guard keep coming back to the international competition cycle all the same.

Program: “Predstavleniye Dyo”

Program Details: Uostas Squadra has selected its second program for performance. The piece is of particular significance, apparently, to officer in charge of this particular execution, Sevastyan Kucera. Although Kucera declined to go deeply into an explanation of the performance, members of the Squadra spoke with us briefly about their commanders deep fervor for the piece.

Nationals, of course, know the program as a requiem for fallen soldiers. The Squadra promises to treat the piece respectfully, keeping themselves away from the general spectacle of competition and instead aiming for the sort of crisp, precise motions and beats that would do their fellow squads proud.

[Drawkland]

DRAWK CORPS

The front ensemble for the Drawk Corps had gone ahead and set up. The rest of the corps stayed in the tunnel leading to the field. Head drum major Jackson Navis checked his watch, and nodded to the field official standing at the mouth of the tunnel. It was time. The Drawk Corps was first on after the last break, so they were gonna go and make the biggest impression they could before the other powerhouses came in after them.

The corps was standing silently in ready position. Navis gave 3 claps and the corps stood into attention, equally silent. The drumline pulled out their sticks in unison, giving a tick with the movement of their sticks. Then, as per corps tradition, Navis began quietly chanting "Drawk." The rest of the corps followed, chanting it louder and louder. Fans in the stands who knew about it began shouting "Corps!" in return, turning the stadium into an echoing chamber of "Drawk Corps!" The drummers took in the beat of the chant and began their classic stadium cadence, and the corps marched out of the field. Their show was shorter than normal, so they had plenty of time to get onto the field. The chanting slowly melted into cheers from the audience as the corps rolled out their props and the guard and brass got in their positions. The drumline finished their cadence with a ripping shot, and then they ran across the field (as fast as they could wearing the drums).

Jackson Navis was on the podium by then, and he eyed the field, seeing everyone was in position and the pit was in order.
"Drum Major, is your corps ready?"
Navis spun around and saluted in traditional Drawk Corps fashion, with some yells from Corps veterans in the stands. He took off his hat and spun it around, placing it at his feet. Right after that, the pit began playing, and he began conducting based on their preferred beat.

The corps, which had been sitting sparsely across the field, sprang up and into life, while the pit introduced the mood of the show. A synthesized voice could be heard, to the tune of "From The New World," and then it faded out, and the synthesizer started taking the sound of the pit, distorting and detuning it, giving it a creepy "falling apart" sound. The noise got louder as the brass and drums quietly crept into the sound.

"Performing their program "Prodigal ..." the announcer said, "From Metropolon, Drawkland ..."
The corps continued to crescendo and the crowd started to cheer again.
"The I.M.A.A. is proud to present ... THE DRAWK CORPS!"
With more cheering, the Drawk Corps launched into the rest of their show.

[Arcantova]

History of the Corps
Drum corps has always been a big part of Arcantovan culture. In the nation, drum corps is considered a sport. The governing body of the drum corps of Arcantova is called the Arcantovan Marching Music Organization (AMMO). When the international competitions began, the board scrambled to put together a plan to send one of Arcantova's corps to the competition. It was time consuming, and many problems arose. Originally, the plan was to send the reigning AMMO champions, the Goldcoats. However, it was soon determined that Arcanotva's best shot at an international competition was to take the best...from the best.

The resulting corps is Spectrum. Spectrum drum and bugle corps consists of the best of the best from AMMO. The name represents the combination of people from all across the country and all walks of life, much like the wave spectrum.

The program
The program performed by Spectrum was originally designed for the Royals of Adapolf. The show features many classic hymns including "It is well," "Amazing Grace," "How great though Art," "A Mighty Fortress is Our God," "The Doxology," and a few more.

The show is meant to take a break from the regular, intense shows of competition to provoke the deepest emotions of the fans.

[Drawkland]

The scores came in. The Sadeg Spartan's members were scattered around the large hotel conference room, waiting for the drum majors to return with the news.

Then came in Nathan Kennedy, followed by the 4 other drum majors who conducted the Spartans. The corps moved from their various placings and positions and sat in a large clump around the majors. Nathan was holding a manila folder which contained the scorecards and other essential information for the corps. But the listing of placements was all the corps cared about right now. The room was silent and everyone listened intently.

"Here's the listing, from bottom to top," Nathan said to break the silence. Every leaned in slightly to listen.
"Skulls, Red Guard, Raven Guard. 13-11, risk of elimination. Vereen Crusaders, Ekhart Harps, 10th and 9th." A few gasps could be heard. The Ekhart Harps got 9th? Must've had a bad run or something.
"Drawk Corps, 8th," a few snickers were heard. Their relative "neighbors" didn't give in to rivalry much, but it's still nice to have something to hold over them.
"Uostas Squadra, 7th." a few people in the back sighed. The Squadra couldn't get out on top no matter what they did.
"Kolra Royal Showband, 6th. Rocavia Goldcoats, 5th. Spectrum, 4th." The air became tense. Only 3 corps were left, and the order would make a huge difference in scoring and attitude.
"With a score of 96.020," a few sounds of excitement were heard. Nobody had ever scored that much before, and that meant there were scores higher still, "The Sadeg Spartans," Nathan seemed to spit. There was a great sound of groaning, and several expletives from the percussion in the back.
"Who's in front of us?!" a voice yelled from the tubas.
"With 96.030, the Diamond Delta." At this, there were many louder yells and a few jumped to their feet in anger.
"96.105 was the Casselian Regiment, in case you were wondering," Nathan quietly tacked on as the corps was all on their feet shouting. There was gonna be an intense Semifinals for them.

[Sacheyenya]

The Raven Corps had been disheartened ever so slightly. It seemed that the nerves had gotten the better of them on the first day. As the second night of the competition began, however, they were determined to make up the ground they had lost on their first night. They ran the drill a few times that night, after hearing about their loss. Mars, Bringer of War was their opening cadence, which led them into Venus, Bringer of Peace adapted into a brass chorale. Jupiter, bringer of Jollity followed as a more upbeat tune, and Mercury, Winged Messenger brought them straight into Saturn, Bringer of Old Age. The show neared its end with Uranus, The Magician and Neptune, the Mystic, and they finished off in a triumphant mark with Betelgeuse.
Today was going to be different, they thought. Perhaps nerves would steal the show away from them once more, and perhaps not. They may fail today, but they may not; they prayed they would not. They spent the last few moments before the show began and before they started their opening cadence praying to various deities, in hopes they'd be brought victory. The drums began to rumble, and their second shot began...

[Arcantova]

Dr. Lyons looked out over his group of sweaty, tired athletes on their practice field. It was the last practice they would get before heading out for their final performance at the World Championships. As he smiled over the group and watched as his other staff members walked up to the edge of the field to join him he raised his hand to the group.

"Ladies and Gentlemen..." He waited for them to get quiet.

"For many of you, this was your first time outside of Arcantova. Have you guys enjoyed the international experience?"

A resounding confirmation came from the group.

"Sadly, I am here to inform you that it is almost over"

He paused for emphasis.

"You all represent the best of the best form Arcantova. You are all the greatest musicians from AMMO. During the summer you are all rivals, but over the past week we have played alongside each other against the best in the world. Together we have gone on that field and put on the best possible show for those fans. We have put in hours of work for that performance on the field, and I couldn't be more proud of your work ethic."

Another pause.

"Now...That was our last practice. The next time we perform our show will be on that field in front of thousands of people. The next time we run that music will be for a score...and that both excites me and makes me sad. Yes, I am sad to see this experience end, but I am happy that I have been able to enjoy it with all of you."

The group applauded and laughs went through the group before Dr. Lyons raised his hand again.

"Now...music is in danger throughout this world. Many believe that it is not important to society. We are fortunate enough to live in a country that not only supports it, but considers it a sport and praises it throughout the land. Because of that we have some of the greatest musicians in the world, and your results this week have shown that. However...though third place is great, I know what you are all capable of, you all know what you are capable of, and Arcantova knows what you are capable of. Not third...not second...first. Sure meeting new people and having fun are important parts of band, but we all know what we want when tonight is over. We want our names written in history and that gold medal around our necks."

He looked over the group from left to right to emphasize his point. On many faces he saw smiles, on others he saw looks of determination.

"All I'm saying is this...the first world championships are over, and this experience ends. So do we go home with bronze....or are we going home with a championship?"

"CHAMPIONSHIP!" The corps yelled.

"Alright then. I'll see you guys tonight. Take a couple of hours for yourselves...maybe take a shower. You guys stink!"
