Wonderful! Now it's time for me to admit - I don't understand football tournament structure. Could someone explain to me (either here or by telegram) how this works?

Report from Azorian Sports Network with Carlos Rocha and Daniel Melo

CR- "The World Cup is fast approaching here in Azoria. Fans are flocking from all of the CFN and starting to gathering in many of the 'World Cup Villages' surrounding the stadium. The Opening Ceremony will be at 3pm EST, 4pm ADT local time here in Hamilton. Let us go out to the stadium where we have Daniel Melo there interviewing a few fans."

DM- "Hi, what is your name and where are you from?"

Fan- "Hi, I am Stefano and I am from Hamilton."

DM- "What do you think of the atmosphere here in Hamilton for the first ever CFN World Cup? And how do you feel about it begin hosted in Azoria?"

Fan (Stefano)- "I think it is wonderful! Having this large event in your backyard is an amazing experience. I also think this will boost out economy and also bring Azorians from all Isles closer and more united."

DM- "It is funny you mention that, because I was going to ask you if you think Azorians from the Isles that are newer to the Commonwealth will feel a sense of pride for the team."

Fan (Stefano)- "Oh for sure, I think that there are still people who are not happy with the changes but I think the majority of people, at least here in our region, are happy to have become apart of the Azorian Commonwealth. We feel like we have a lot in common with the other Isles of the North Atlantic, so to be united as one nation is a good thing for all of us. We want to see Azoria do really well in this tournament. Go Azoria!"

*Daniel Melo chuckles*

DM- "Thank you, enjoy the game and the rest of the tournament."

*Daniel looks at camera*

DM- "As you can see the excitement for the CFN World Cup is building here at Queen Isabella Vitoria Stadium in Hamilton. We have seen many Azorians with their jerseys, flags, faces painted as well as fans from Einsiev are here, the team Azoria faces tonight after the opening ceremony. We also see many fans from other nations, who's teams are playing their first matches here at Queen Isabella Vitoria Stadium. The atmosphere is electric here, now back to you Carlos in the studio."

[i]CR- "Thank you Daniel. Wow, it looks like so much fun out there. The first match to take place here at Azoria National Stadium in St Michael will be the first Group C match Sulania versus Digital Cascade. We will be bringing you all things CFN World Cup here at ASN, starting with the opening ceremony just under 3 hours away now."

OPENING CEREMONY!!

Postby The Isles of Azoria » Mon Aug 03, 2015 12:02 pm

"Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the Opening Ceremony at Queen Isabella Vitoria Stadium here at the city of Hamilton on the Isle of Vitoria! It is a beautiful evening and we are feeling the excitement build up as fans pour into the stadium."

Image

Image

"We are so excited to get this event started. There has been so much build up to the CFN World Cup and it has finally arrived! We welcome all the nations participating in the event as well as other fans from around the CFN who have come to the Isles of Azoria to partake in this historic inaugural event! Let us direct our attention now to center field for the welcoming of the national delegates participating in the CFN World Cup."

Image

"Isn't that beautiful seeing all of the flags together. As they are present the nations, let us talk a little about the event. This event will take place four times a year. Essentially once in every season. This edition marks the first one ever and is the summer edition to the CFN World Cup. The other three are the Fall Edition in November, Winter Edition in February and the Spring Edition in May. The CFN will crown a new champion every three months. The Isles of Azoria are your host for this event but can not host again until the cycle starts over again August 2016. In order words a nation must wait until a new cycle in order to bid to host again. Now let us tune into the display on the field. The dancers are reenacting the life in the ocean. The Isles of Azoria is a nation made up of 34 islands, so you can imagine how much the ocean has to do with Azoria's culture and history."

Image

"The boat is representative of the many ports throughout the Isles of Azoria, which are a huge influence on the nation's economy."

Image

"We will be back after a quick commercial break."

"Welcome back to the opening ceremony of CFN World Cup I here in the Isles of Azoria. This segment of the ceremony is celebrating the many cultures of the CFN. The dancers are wearing colors that represent all of the nations and their people. We see the words "This is for Everyone" illuminated in the seats, how beautiful."

Image

Image

Image

"The Commonwealth of Free Nations is an eclectic group of nations that come together to represent Democracy, Security, Peace, Justice, and Equality! And the dancers on display show exactly how true that is."

Image

"When we come back, we are going to explore the various regions of the host nation."

*commercial break*

"Let us tune in now to the different displays of culture that represent The Isles of Azoria...We see the large globe zooming into the Azorian region in the Northern Atlantic Ocean. The children's faces up above are representative of the many cultures that make up the Azorian nation."

Image

"The scuba divers again represent the aquatic culture of Azoria."

Image

"What we see happening now is the agricultural influence of the nation, primarily in the Northern Region of the country. Farming and herding of cattle goes back far in the region's history but is still a big part of the isles today."

Image

"The dancers are now going back towards the ball to begin the finale of the opening ceremony. We will bring the finale to you right after this..."

Image

"Welcome back, just a little background information on what it took to put this opening ceremony together. There were around 600 dancers and thousands of volunteers. They have been working long hours to put this show together. The name of the ceremony is "Isles of Wonder". Let us tune tune in now to the final moments of this opening ceremony here in Hamilton."

"Well there you have it folks, the "Isles of Wonder" Opening Ceremony show! Enjoy the opening match Isles of Azoria versus Einsiev, as well as, the entire CFN World Cup tournament. Good luck to all the teams on their quest for the CFN Cup!

Match 2 vs Bearlong

Postby The Isles of Azoria » Wed Aug 05, 2015 3:25 pm

This is an Azorian Sports Network Report:

News Anchor Carlos Rocha- "The Azorian National team is set to play its second match against Bearlong in the CFN World Cup. They look to make a splash on home soil again. Ahead of Azoria's second match against Bearlong, head coach Paulo Fernandes is set to speak exclusively to the ASN (Azorian Sports Network), sharing his thoughts on everything from Azorian star Rodrigo Pacheco to his thoughts on the rest of the tournaments. We have Paula De Luz in St. George, where Azoria plays their next match, for full coverage and interaction with the Goshawks. Let's tune in now for her interview with head coach Paulo Fernandes."

Paula De Luz- "Thank you Carlos...The first objective for Azoria is to qualify for the knockouts. Is there room to think beyond that or is this the only focus at the moment?"

Coach- "The goal to advance out of the group stage is what we have at the moment. First, we are focused on the group stage matches, despite the difficulties that we know we will find against our next two opponents. Then, if we progress, we will move on to another objective."

Paula De Luz- "Do you think there will be even greater pressure on Pacheco, looking at what he has achieved this past season in the Azorian League and being the captain of the Azorian national team?

Coach- "It is definitely good news that all the Azorian players who are playing at home and abroad can achieve the objectives at their clubs. I do not think there will be more pressure on Rodrigo though. On the contrary: we don't ask him to solve all the problems for the team. These issues must be solved by the team as a whole and the better the team is, the better the conditions are for the individual players to shine, like our Capitan Rodrigo."

Paula De Luz- "You spoke recently about the importance of this next match against Bearlong. What do you expect from this game and what are the strengths of this Bearlong team?

Robert Almeida- "I expect a very difficult game, against a team that has few weaknesses. I think the strongest part among the many strengths that Bearlong have is the transition from defense to attack, but if we stick to our game plan and what we do best, we'll be fine"

Paula De Luz nods at Coach Fernandes and turns back to camera center...."There you have it, Coach Fernandes is ready and so are the Goshawks. Azoria's next match in group play is against Bearlong and they will be playing in Harbour Stadium...back to you Carlos in the studio."

Host nation Azoria loses in the Semi-finals

Postby The Isles of Azoria » Wed Aug 12, 2015 3:22 pm

Azorian Sports Network

Carlos Rocha- "The road ends for the Os Roujes. Vista Major defeated Azoria to claim a spot in the CFN Cup Final. The two teams played a closely contested match. The two were tied after the 90+ minutes of regulation one to one. The two teams also scored a goal each in extra time, but it was the miss by Azorian star Rodrigo Pacheco in penalties that sent Vista Major to the final and left Azorian fans throughout all of Azoria in tears. Azoria was hoping to win the inaugural CFN Cup in their home nation but that goal came up just a little bit short. Isles of Azoria play Digital Cascade at Harbour Stadium in Saint George for the third place match. The World Cup final will be played Friday at Azoria National Stadium, Vista Major and Acro look to be the first nation to win the coveted CFN Cup. Good luck to both teams."

The stadium was silent. Not a single sound could be heard across the stadium as the minutes slowly ticked down on the clock. The past 88 minutes had passed with not a single goal. The team from Digital Cascade had made 6 shots at the goal only to be blocked by star Goalie Muhammad Makani. He had been removed from the field after saving the sixth shot, in which he shattered his index and ring fingers. The reserve goali Hussein Torabi was largely untested. They knew they had to take this fight on the offensive. Once the whistle blew the Acronese offense charged. They gave this everything they got almost supernaturally as they evaded the opposing teams defense.

Omar Mehmet, power forward for the team sprinted ahead and jumped over the Defense man for Digital Cascade. With only seconds left on the clock he aimed right for the top left corner and drilled the ball into the goal. The timer hit zero as the ball passed right behind the goalies gloves.

The Acronese fans erupted into cheers. The whole team charged Omar and praised Allah and their teamates outstanding skill.

In the stands fans cry out and hug each other, glad to see their team go to the finals
