NationStates College Football season 12

Here it is! The twelth edition of NationStates College Football. Here you will find Rosters for your opposition, and all RPs should be posted here too.
Any questions should be posted in the discussion thread, to avoid OOC clutter, please. Failing that, feel free to send a telegram to Free Republics or any conference host.

As is normal between seasons here, there are a couple of changes again, so if you're a returning team, please read carefully. New teams, welcome!

The NSCF procedure is outlined here.

With numbers decreasing from 36 teams to 30, Sequoia Conference will be suspended for this season. Yuma University and Karl Marx University (the returning teams from Sequoia Conference) have the right to choose their new conference. Therefore, there will be a short delay before the conference alignment process can commence, but expect your school to be assigned to a conference by the end of Wednesday.

Each conference will have six teams, and the regular season will be double round-robin, for a total of 10 games. Games will be scorinated three times a week, on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please check your conference for a projected RP cutoff time. Scores will be posted in this thread.

After all ten regular season games, there will be a "Non-Conference week", with each team playing up to three games against opposition from other conferences. These games will not count toward conference championships, but WILL affect playoff seedings. All Non-Conference games must be arranged by the teams playing them, and confirmed by matchday five of the regular season.

The playoff format this season is eight teams, -- all 5 conference champions plus the next best team by OSPI, and two selected by the NSCF committee -- in a seeded, three round, single-elimination bracket. Seeds for the playoffs will be determined purely by OSPI, and the higher seed will have home advantage until the final, which will take place at a neutral venue yet to be decided. Any nation can put together a final hosting bid, before the start of Non-Conference week, to be voted on by the NSCF Committee.

In addition to the usual playoff system, there will be the possibility of a small series of "bowl games" prior to the playoffs for teams not reaching the post-season. Proposed bowl games will be listed below, and organizing nations will be responsible for sending out invites to eligible teams closer to the time and confirming that the game will take place. There is no obligation to take part in a bowl game. The Pioneer Bowl is a traditional game for the two best performing newcomer teams not in the playoffs, and the NSCF will not recognize any bowl game involving a team with an OSPI below 0.450.

Pioneer Bowl sponsored by the Church of Saintland
to be played at Royal Stadium St. Petrus, Saintland
Contested by: Top two newcomer teams not in the playoffs.

Snakeskin Wars Memorial Bowl sponsored by the ?
to be played at Horsefill Arena Bloodbenderopolis, Frenline Delpha
Contested by: 4th place team from Celestia/Horizon conference and 4th place team from Mineral/Woodlands conference

Pineapple Bowl sponsored by the Arruda Pineapple Company
to be played at Azoria National Stadium; St. Michael, Isle of Afonso, Isles of Azoria.
Contested by: either 3rd/4th Place (Mineral Conference) VS either 3rd/4th Place (Woodlands Conference)

** ICly, there are NO OFFICIAL NSCF Rankings until the end of the regular season, when playoff seeds are determined.
** Pre season ranks are determined by last season's finish for returning teams, and then arbitrary ranks given to new teams.
** In the actual standings, the final tiebreaker is last season's rank (based on playoffs and final standings) or alphabetical order for new teams.

Red matchups are those I have taken note of from the discussion thread, and require confirmation, but would otherwise be fine.

Ramusok Capital University (RCU) Dragons

Image

Location: Ramusok, Ramusok Fief, Cosumar

School Size: 51.348 undergraduates

NSCF Championships: 1 (NSCF 10), Conference Titles: 3 (NSCF 2, 3, 11)

Team History: RCU was one of the original NSCF 1 schools and has participated in all twelve editions of the event, making it one of the most storied programs in NSCF history. Ramusok Capital won its first NSCF Championship two years ago against Utica, the culmination of a long rebuilding process that began in NSCF 6. After winning the Horizon Conference again last season (though they were knocked out in the quarterfinals of the Playoffs by rival Stoneshore), the Dragons now seem poised to sustain this period of success. The offense at times struggled to find its footing with a new quarterback and running back, but the tremendous defense carried them through the rough patches. Former defensive coordinator Snorri Andersen will mount the head coaching job in the wake of Darren Howard's departure to coach the CFL's Jadde Bruins. Until NSCF 10, RCU's best finishes were runs to the semifinals in NSCF 1 and 2.

Head Coach: Snorri Andersen
Offensive Coordinator: Michael Cho
Defensive Coordinator: Jarpen Spoonemore
Special Teams Coordinator: Andrew Bockman

Colors: Navy and Silver

Stadium: Capital Coliseum (Capacity 82,000)

Stoneshore College Bruins

Image

Location: Cape Dutch, Stoneshore, Cosumar

School Size: 25,645 undergraduates

Championships: 1 (NSCF 11), Conference Titles: 1 (NSCF 10)

Team History: Stoneshore have shed the role of "RCU's little brother" in recent seasons, stepping out from the shadows and becoming a powerhouse in their own right. The year RCU won Cosumar's first NSCF title, Stoneshore had actually had the better regular season at 9-1. And then last season, the perpetual "little brother" finally had their revenge for years of misery at the hands of the Dragons', knocking their rival out of the Playoffs and then winning a NSCF championship of their own. It will be fascinating to see which of these two Cosumarite titans will win the tussle this season - the balance of power has never been more precarious. The Bruins had a poor debut in NSCF 2, and had never even reached the postseason until NSCF 10. The turnaround in the last two years can be directly attributed to the arrival of legendary CFL coach Walter Hufnagel. His ambitious recruiting is bringing top talent to Cape Dutch more than ever.

CENEISIS NAVAL ACADEMY
OFFICIAL TEAM SHEET

Ceneisis Naval Academy is an American football team based in Porcusces, Ceneisis, Abanhfleft. Its home ground is Lieutenant Helmut Tatuwal Memorial Athletic Field, a 12,470-seater park named after Lieutenant Helmut Tatuwal, son of Ceneisis governor Taram Tatuwal and a recipient of the Parliamentary Medal of Honor for his actions during the 2013 Fhulghamous Crisis. The team is a perennial contender in Abanhfleft's NCAA system, and has won at least eight titles in the last thirteen years, most recently the NSCF's Zephyr Conference. They are noted for being a defensive-minded team in a country where most often offense is deemed as the best defense.

THEREISNOGODISTAN COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE
OFFICIAL TEAM SHEET

Thereisnogodistan County is a county in the Abanhfleft colony of the Fhulghamous Peninsula. It was established on November 30, 2014 from the splitting of Haritzaga County, by Colonial Executive Order No. 190047. The southern part of the county retained the name and history of Haritzaga County, while the northern part was named Thereisnogodistan County. The county seat is Thereisnogodabad.

Thereisnogodistan County Community College is an American football team based in Thereisnogodabad, Fhulghamous Peninsula. Its home ground is Richard Dawkins Park, a 21,100-seater park named after the prominent atheist Richard Dawkins, which is also currently Thereisnogodistan FC's home ground. The team is set to be integrated into Abanhfleft's NCAA football. Thereisnogodistan County Community College had requested to play in the World Bowl through the Fleftic Commission on Games and Sports to acquire some crucially needed experience before playing against some of Abanhfleft's best colleges and universities in the Fleftic NCAA.

Even though it is a college team, Thereisnogodistan Community College has participated in the World Bowl twice and even came out runners-up in the rumored-to-be last edition of the Baptism of Iron. Now they are taking a chance of using their experience playing on the national level to their advantage and conquer the college football tournament of the multiverse.

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of team:
Thereisnogodistan FC
Team colors: Yellow shirt, pants, socks, and helmet (home); white shirt, pants, socks, and helmet (away)
Style modifier: +3.5. Thereisnogodistan is inspired by Fleftic sporting philosophy in that the best defense is offense.
Manager: Francois-Michel Nkong'o (Abanhfleft, 41 years old)

HOME STADIUM
Image
Richard Dawkins Park will serve as Thereisnogodistan's home stadium for the group stages of World Bowl XXVI. It currently seats 21,100 people.

NOTE: Since Thereisnogodistan County Community College is a small college, the team will not have as many reserves as they would like, and therefore injuries are very much not good for the team. An injury might force a safety to become a temporary quarterback, and such cross-position training is not very popular within Abanhfleft's sporting systems.

Retired numbers: #4 Pelias Patras. Set the national collegiate record for passing touchdowns in a career(95), and school record for passing yards in a career(9,977). Is the only quarterback in school history to start every single game for 4 years. Only quarterback in school history to beat archrivals Loyola University-Istria 3 times in a row(coinciding NSCF 1, 2,3). Went to three straight national championship games(coinciding NSCF 9, 10, 11) and won two national championships(coinciding NSCF 1 & 3).

Rivals: Currently the biggest rival of Northern Moravica University is Loyala-University Istria, who the Cougars have played once a season the last 55 seasons. All-time, they have played 67 teams, with Northern holding a 35-30-2 edge in the series over their archrivals. These two teams have long been seen as the top two college football teams in Banija, and indeed, their stranglehold over Banijan college sports has continued, with Northern and Loyola combining for the last 6 national championships. When it was discussed for which team should debut Banija on the world stage for college football, it ultimately came down to these two, and after heating exchanges of words between both Athletic Directors and School Presidents in public, and the Mayors of Istria & Herzegovina City, the Banijan College Sports Group(BCSG) decided on a 11-8 vote to send Northern. It has been confirmed that before the start of NSCF 12, they will indeed play their archrivals on the road and continue the longstanding series.

Entrance: There is a unique stadium entrance at home games for the Cougars football team. A starting senior on each side of the football stands outside the tunnel, each one holding the school flag. They stand opposite each other with the flags lowered, and then raise the flags and let the entire team run through. After the team and staff runs through, those two starters run to the middle of the field and each plant their flag on the logo, signifying that this is their home field, and that they will fight to defend home field.

Karl Marx University has the best college gridiron (football) team in Barunia. They also have the only college gridiron team in Barunia. Not only can the university make that claim, but they also may stake a claim on the national team. It was started by their staff, developed on their campus, and taken up by their students. The national team, the Sea Cows, play all their home games at KMU, which is useful as the majority of Sea Cows players are also KMU students. Many of them are enrolled in KMU's gridiron program, which offers scholarships in Barunia's least popular team sport. Originally started as a creative way to boost the funding of their failing rugby program, KMU now hope to offer their students opportunities to grow in a gridiron instead.

Because of the limited popularity of the sport in the country, the team is not as large as it might otherwise be. As such, many players double up in the offensive, defensive and specialist teams. Some players have moved from the positions they played in the Baptism of Iron and World Bowl.

Stadium
Hedley Tannock Field (Karl Marx University), Samford, Havenia
Usually used for Rugby, Hedley Tannock Field is located on the grounds of Karl Marx University, and named after the university's first chancellor. There is a permanent 1,250-seat grandstand, and plenty of open grass on the other three sides. Based on numbers from the world bowl and NSCF, where home fans never exceeded 500 people, it is anticipated that this will not be a problem in terms of capacity. KMU is located in Samford, a growing city about 50 kilometres south-west of Barunia's capital Porthaven, in the state of Havenia.

All positions are listed in order as the official depth chart from the South Seas University football program web page.
Players most likely to make big plays are noted with an asterisk (*)

Honu Offensive bullet points:
  • Offensively, the Honu run a zone read spread offense which takes advantage of creating space for speedy players to make plays.
  • With the continued progress of junior QB Ezra Talbot, Coach Goose Carneghy is ready to completely open the playbook. The Honu have now changed their offensive philosophy to full attack mode, and will look to capitalize on every play while utilizing a hurry-up offense. Talbot has improved his arm strength and accuracy from previous seasons, but his dual threat ability is what may ultimately make him a particularly special player at this level and beyond.
  • With the loss of Samuel Marshall, the younger of the Talbot brothers, Jonas, will look to take the lion's share of early down work in the Honu backfield. Jonas Talbot will look to use speed to make defenses miss tackles, and is adept as a receiver. Given enough space, the running ability of both the Talbot brothers should prove troublesome to unprepared and undisciplined defenders. Power back Sterling Sparrow figures to receive a healthier workload thanks to impressive work in a limited role down the stretch last year, and should become an interesting thunder compliment to Talbot's lightning. Moses Gervaise is primarily a passing down back, and will likely find a role as a slot receiver on early downs.
  • The share the wealth approach to the Honu passing game will make it difficult to to find a star outside of Satchel King, who at times proved to be uncoverable last year. With all the tangibles once could ask for in a receiver, he will look to improve as the go-to guy for Ezra Talbot. He is likely to see several double-teams, however, as the Honu look to fully develop their slough of otherwise pedestrian receivers.
  • If there is going to be one other receiving star on the Honu team, it will certainly be TE Levi Savage. Savage outplayed his projections last season, emerging as a crucial threat in the middle of the field as well as on stretch plays. He creates a wonderful mismatch in favor of the Honu, as he is projects to be faster than defensive linemen, shorter linebackers, and smaller defensive backs. With the weight he gained in muscle mass over the offseason, look for Savage to be a huge part of this Honu attack, racking up first downs and touchdowns.
  • With the starting offensive line remaining fully intact, this Honu attack might reach new heights as a well oiled machine working in great cohesion with each other. Especially helpful will be the continued emergence of twins Kaleo and Kai Kanoa, who have been working in tandem to shore up the right side of the line since their days in Keiki football. Senior Arvel Chambers projects to be one of the better left tackles in the game at this level as he protects Talbots blindside, and center Blaine Cassius and left guard Holokai Kahili look to improve even further with continued experience.
  • The offense will undoubtedly seek to move the chains utilizing the zone read, with runs early and often. To keep the defense on their toes, the zone read will open up plays in the short screen game with wide receiver bubble screens, running back short passes, and tight end screens mixed in. Lookout for Jonas Talbot though, because if you lose him in coverage he will swing out on a seam route and gash you for thirty yards. Just when the defense has settled in to the short game, quarterback Ezra Talbot will go for the jugular with a long pass to King or an intermediate route from Savage.
  • Coach Carneghy has been known to be quite aggressive, routinely electing to go for fourth down plays over punting and even throwing in the occasional two point conversion after touchdowns.
  • Key losses: RB Samuel Marshall
  • Key additions: QB Augustine Cobbler, RB Ezekiel Pentecost. Cobbler is a highly recruited passer who projects to climb the depth chart quickly, though passing up Talbot remains doubtful; Cobbler appears to be the heir apparent when Talbot moves on to the next level, and should do well to learn under his tutelage. Pentecost figures to be a big part of the offense early, and may earn a regular rotation with Jonas Talbot as a dual threat rusher and receiver. Also, Pentecost is deceptively speedy for his size, and if he can pick up pass protection quickly, he will be hard to keep off of the field.

Honu Defensive bullet points:
  • The Honu play a hybrid 3-5-3/3-3-5 defense, again focused on getting speed players to the ball in a hurry.
  • While the Honu offense had some struggles last season, it was truly the efforts of Defensive Coordinator Samson Fisafua which kept the Honu in a number of games. He will look to add even new wrinkles to the Honu defensive unit this season, employing zone blitzes to cause confusion and get unblocked linebackers and defensive ends to the quarterback or ball carrier.
  • Of particular note is the progression of Defensive End Wolf Valentine, who looks to make the next step and become a truly special player. He'll get the benefit of one more complimentary year from Casey Pendergrass before he can really step into the spotlight, but his progression this season should be a fun storyline to watch.
  • Linebackers Sequioa Clark and Gideon Ali'iloa should prove to be quite a tandem in the middle, clogging up the middle with some amount of authority. However, the loss of four senior linebackers from the crew will be a setback to this crew, and much of the Honu defensive success will hinge on younger players' ability to step up and make big plays. Honu fans will certainly hope the learning curve is not too steep as this crew looks to shore up the running lanes and short passing game.
  • The middle of the line will be an amusing development for Honu fans. Despite the loss of Quentin Vinson, this nose tackle position may have gotten better as the door is now wide open for freak of nature Roosevelt Calderon. Already a behemoth of a man last season, Calderon has put on 30 pounds of muscle during the offseason to be better equipped to handle opposing offensive linemen. Calderon plays quick off of the line, playing faster than a man of his size should. Combined with his huge wingspan, Calderon could be in for a big year, stonewalling offensive linemen in their path and also racking up sacks even as a nose tackle. He projects to be a literally large problem for opposing offensive coordinators to scheme around on a weekly basis.
  • With the hybrid defensive scheme that the Honu are set to employ, there has been no official designation from the official website on players in the defensive backfield. Instead, defensive backs will be asked to play in a myriad of roles.
  • The most impressive player in the Honu defensive backfield is Jovante James, a true shutdown corner who will look to make opposing quarterbacks utterly forget about half of the field. Up and comer Francisco De la Cruz and the primarily slot corner Eustace Wellington will certainly see plenty of action as teams try to avoid James on the other side. Again, of great importance is the loss of a number of experienced defensive backs; once again the success or failure of the Honu team will rely largely on the ability of the defensive unit to plug in younger players without missing a beat.
  • The entire defense is built on speed, and quick substitutions to all positions project to keep the defensive unit fresh in all levels. Defensive stops will hinge on each player proving to play smartly as the amount of substitutions will force each defensive player to play to their fullest cerebral potential.
  • Key losses: NT Quentin Vinson, LB Beau Montgomery, LB Desmond Boothe, DB Julian Gillette, DB Andrew Meade
  • Key additions: NT Aruba Castille, DE Adawale Jesumbo, LB Rudyard Obsidian, LB Isodore Abacus, LB Manu Hekili, LB Clive Lazarus, DB Mordecai Abbott, DB Obadiah Hobart. Castille could be a great long term addition, though it will be hard for him to earn snaps behind Roosevelt Calderon; it may be possible he sees the field at other positions to gain valuable experience. Jesumbo is a highly gifted yet incredibly raw prospect out of Congo and Zambezi River Wilderness, where football is not a high priority sport; as he progresses, he should start to see the field often behind Casey Pendergrass and Wolf Valentine. The linebacking additions should serve as a solid unit within a couple years time, as they grow together in experience and skill; look for Obsidian and Abacus to make the largest impact this season, with the possibility of supplanting JD Broussard or even Evander Bautista in the starting lineup. The defensive back additions appear to be works in progress, and would be best served to learn under more experienced players; the defensive unit would be hard pressed if any of the freshmen DBs were forced into regular playing time due to injuries at the top of the depth chart.

Roleplay Permissions
My opponent, if they roleplay first, has permission on the following items:
  • Turnovers and players that committed them: Yes
  • Scorers: Yes
  • Type of scores: Yes (I don't even care if you choose five safeties for a score of 10)
  • Injuries: Minor injuries only (defining minor as removing player from the game at hand but available for subsequent games
  • For your reference, players most likely to make big plays are noted with an asterisk (*), though feel free to utilize other players as needed or wanted.
  • Other: Yes. Feel free to RP missed kicks, going for two rather than an extra point, failed or converted fourth downs, odd play calls, penalties etc. The only thing I care about is things that would potentially remove players from subsequent games, such as injuries, sanctions, or disciplinary action.

5 Things to Watch For This Matador's Season

After an unprecedented success last season in their first year as a varsity program, the Yuma Matadors American football program enters its first season in a new conference with high expectations and even higher levels of interest from across the sports world. Blogs and screamsheets across La Mesilla have gone on record saying all kinds of things about this season, raising the media coverage to levels higher than it ever was last season. Below we've consolidated the hype into five key points to take with you into NSCF season 12.

1. A greater role for the offense
Last year was undeniably a defensive year for the Matadors. Tough stops and gut-wrenching sacks made Clarissa Bartlett a household name through the Sequoia Conference, but it was Sabine Gerlach's short passes and shrewd option plays kept the Matadors going throughout their games. This year, look for an expansion of the pistol-based West Coast offense that served so well last year.

As Sabine Gerlach enters into her senior year, she is surrounded by the first cohort group at Yuma to have played four years together, including her favorite target Petra Stafford lining up at slot and her fraternity brother Cliff Pennington, who showed a renewed speed in the spring game against La Mesilla Military Institute and reportedly posted a sub-five second forty at pre-season workouts for the first time since joining the program.

Last season also saw Seymour Ingram develop from a fast kid made of glass to a fast kid made of glass with a couple of really impressive cuts, who has also seen some improvement from the team's off-season workout program; he has put on about thirty pounds, without any apparent loss in speed. Connie Nixon's athleticism remains the same, but a year of practice on her less-preferred side of the ball should make her a more nuanced runner, if no less brutal.

2. More depth in the secondary
Yes, we know, Clarissa Bartlett graduated. It's a great tragedy for the defense to lose its captain and play-caller, but despite her attention-getting personality and bone-crushing hits, Bartlett was never irreplaceable to the defense. The secondary will not have Bartlett's shut-down abilities, but what they will have, in addition to the returning starters, is two competent backups in Cliff Pennington and Merle Wooten, as well as a quick, hyper-aware starter in Albert Benjamin.

3. A stronger line, on both sides of the ball
Last year's O-line was good enough to keep Gerlach upright, but this year's looks to be a major difference-maker. The pair of Ned Spence and Darren Jenkins will maul defensive linemen and create huge gaps for Seymour Ingram to find his way through, and if all goes according to plan, the Matadors' backfield will appear substantially better for it. If Ingram breaks 1,000 yards this year, it will be because of these guys.

4. A bigger, better recruiting class
Something strange happened in the past year at Yuma, where soccer has always reigned as king of the sports.

Notes

The class names at Army Academy mean the following:

Plebe - Freshman (ineligible to play, but can practice with team)
Yuk - Sophomore
Cow - Junior
Firstie - Senior

The Army Academy, also known as East Point, is a military academy in the Federation of Free Republics. Students, known as Cadets, attend free of charge and must receive a recommendation from a Senator in order to be admitted. While the Academy emphasizes military training, Cadets also receive a high-quality college education. Upon graduation, Cadets are required to join the Republican Army for a minimum of 5 years. Most remain in the Army as officers and many of them go on to climb the ranks. The decision to enter NSCF was driven partially by a desire to compete against a higher level of competition, at a time when Republican service academy football was relatively strong, historically-speaking, but also by a desire to gather intelligence on the nations of the multiverse that could be useful for military operations. The decision to continue entering NSCF even after the fall of the Holy Republican Empire was motivated by the school's second place finish in season 11.

The football team's style of play tends to be very conservative, as one would expect from a military academy. In particular, Army uses offensive and defensive schemes from the mid-20th century. On offense, their base formation uses 2 halfbacks and a fullback. The split end is, roughly, the equivalent of a wide receiver, as is the flanker. The difference between a split end and a flanker is that a split end starts on the line of scrimmage while a flanker sets up behind the line (both are simply referred to as wide receivers in modern offensive schemes). On defense, their primary formation is the 5-2 Eagle, which uses 5 defensive linemen, 2 outside linebackers and no middle linebacker. However, they can shift, if needed, into the 5-2 Oklahoma, which is basically an early version of the 3-4.

Notes (OOC)

St. Augustinus, like all universities in Saintland, operates on a 3-year system. As Sanctii time is identical to RL time, St. Augustinus players will be on a season of eligibility system (with a limit of 4 seasons) rather than the more conventional year of eligibility system. ICly, first year students are now barred from participating on the St. Augustinus NSCF team and students are limited to participating in a total of 4 seasons of NSCF while enrolled at St. Augustinus. The St. Augustinus athletic programs are nicknamed the Priests because St. Augustinus specializes in theological education. Due to the relatively low enrollment at St. Augustinus, the Priests field a fairly small roster.

With the influx in enrollment from the former Holy Republican Empire, its numerous colonies and IesusisGodistan, most of the students at St. Augustinus are not actually from Saintland any longer and the gridiron team's roster reflects that.

Conquerer's Academy RedBlacks

After a poor NSCF 11 season, the RedBlacks, who also go by the nicknames the 'Dinamos', the 'Ownerists', the 'Pixels' and the 'Bombers' are looking to bounce back. As Conquerer's Academy was blown up with the rest of Angelou by San Jose Guayabal during the recent World Cup, this season's home games will be held at the CA's sister college of LaBlanco de Owner University, or LABOU. The Conquerer's are hoping for success; The playoffs are the limit this time around for them.

Doubters over Channa's ability to operate as head coach were silenced as Utica romped to the OCGL Championship with Alex Logan under center, setting a new record margin of victory in the Championship game in the process. Utica's 47-13 victory over Firewood City Tech has seen the entire program rejuvenated, following the crushing defeat in the NSCF Championship game two years ago, and the disappointing follow-up in NSCF 11 -- during which Utica suffered their worst defeat in two decades, and lost their grip on the Woodlands conference championship -- which culminated in the retirement of Utica stalwart Daniel Corsey.

Highly rated sophomore quarterback Kendrick Lloyd is said to be frustrated at the limited opportunities he has been given at Utica, though Henri Toulalan admits that Lloyd ran Hogan very close for the starting berth in NSCF this term. "Brendon did well last year, and we're resting Alex again, so we did give Kendrick a shot, but his accuracy isn't quite where we need it to be. He's great as a running threat, and perhaps if LeDallas doesn't work out, we'll consider bringing Kendrick in under center to switch things up. I know the kid is frustrated though, and I'm just hoping it drives him to fulfil that potential we saw when we recruited him." The Utica Quarterbacks coach told us.

Northern Moravica University getting set to play in its first season of the NSCF

Image
New Head Coach Horace Browning at a press conference in Herzegovina City

HERZEGOVINA CITY- Many college football fans in Banija are excited for the beginning of the NSCF season, their first season of college football playing abroad. Athletic Director Pelias Patras had announced the move at the end of last season, and there was strong debate about the decision across all of Banija. Some fans were excited, as it would allow for the improvement of competition within Banija, while at the same time, many fans were angry that one of Banija's traditional powerhouse programs were leaving Banija and deciding to play somewhere else. The debate was fierce across the country, and even undertook political overtones when a regionalist from rural Moravica introduced a bill in the regional Parliament to ban the move. However, the bill went nowhere, and after wrangling, Northern Moravica will play in NSCF 12 after the move was approved 6-1 by the school Board of Governors.

New and young Athletic Director Pelias Patras is an ally of School President Aleksandar Tapavica, who has a vision to grow Northern Moravica into the largest university in the country. Already, growth is through the roof since his arrival, as enrollment on campus was a touch over 29,000 in his first year as the School President, and now, the student population is over 35,000. Aleksandar Tapavica has been a visionary on campus, with a medical school opening in its 4th year, and with him being the first President in school history not to attend undergrad at the University. He received his MBA from the School of Business, but he got his undergraduate 4-year degree from St.John's College, a local Orthodox school in the city. He has spread his vision to athletics, last year hiring the young Pelias Patras to grow the school via the athletic program.

Pelias Patras was a unique choice to become athletic director, and again made history as the youngest athletic director the school has ever seen. He is steeped in the history of the school, widely considered to be the greatest quarterback in school history, as he is the only person in school history to see his jersey retired. He is steeped in tradition, but yet his youth has allowed him to embrace change, and is a major reason why the School President has selected him to run the Athletic Department. Pelias Patras, with the pending retirement of Head Coach Travis Young, knew that he would be able to take the program the direction he wanted to go in as soon as the season ended. He had worked out a deal with the School President and NSCF organizers, and decided to move full steam ahead exactly 3 weeks after Young's retirement at the end of the season, which had ended with a loss in the national championship game to Oaxaca State University.

When he had his press conference, he had shocked the nation by announcing his intention to move Northern Moravica outside of Banijan college football, and to the NSCF. The reaction from pundits and many inside Banija was said to surprise him a little, and it effected his coaching search. Originally, though they were looking far and wide across the spectrum, the head coach at Marian University was the favorite to replace Travis Young as the Head Coach. However, that coach did not go out and endorse the decision Pelias Patras had made, and Patras decided that he needed a head coach who would support his move to the NSCF. Because of that, he decided to look inside the NSCF itself, with the full support of President Tapavica, to find a head coach.

He ended up finding one of the best available candidates. Horace Browning, the defensive coordinator at Stoneshore College the last 3 season, had just finished the NSCF 11 and won the championship in large part due to his stifling defense. Pelias Patras, even though he was a quarterback, knew that he would need a strong defensive coach, and at the same time, knew Horace Browning of all people would be a fierce defender of the idea that Northern Moravica should play in the NSCF, considering his history within the NSCF. So he placed the call to Horace Browning, and 48 hours after the Board of Governors voted 6-1 to approve the move to the NSCF, Horace Browning was introduced as the head coach of the Northern Moravica football team.

Horace Browning has called the job 'a tremendous opportunity', and Pelias Patras has given him the keys to the future of the program, with Horace Browning becoming their first ever head coach in the NSCF era. Horace Browning has said that the level of competition in the NSCF is fierce, with the fight to make the 8 team playoff at the end of the season harder than ever, though he was confident that his team would go out and compete every week within the Celestia Conference. Horace Browning has went onto say that his team will fight and battle, and will set their aims for the playoffs. Though many see it as an unrealistic goal, Horace Browning has spoken to the high expectations of Northern Moravica fans, who are used to competing for national championships year in and year out.

Horace Browning, we know, will have his team ready to compete, and we will see what Banijan players can do against the world, as they will make their NSCF debut at home against Lone Wolf University. Fans are excited and ready, as tickets for this opener sold out within 2 days of being on sale, and we'll see if Northern Moravica can hold their own against some of the world's best at Lone Wolf University.
