Welcome to the 27th edition of the World Cup of Hockey, hosted by Gregoryisgodistan and Ko-oren! This thread is for the posting of your rosters and RPs, unless you’re the hosts taking charge of scorinating and hosting this edition of WCoH! Please refrain from posting anything in this thread that is neither roster nor an RP. While including OOC notes in your RPs is fine, posts that are purely OOC belong in the World Cup of Hockey Discussion Thread. Exceptions to this rule will be made only for hosts and mods performing their respective duties. Anything else will be treated as spam and may bring moderator action and/or a reduction in RP Bonus. IC posts in the Discussion thread will not bring disciplinary action from the hosts, but will not be graded either.

For information regarding tiebreakers, scorination, and other pertinent infromation, please refer to our bid.

NHL rink dimensions and fight rules are being used in this tournament.

Please make note of your opponents' RP permissions. It is very important that they are followed. We would like to avoid any situation in which RPs would have to be retconned. An RP permissions template has been provided, but feel free to use your own if you so desire.

Schemerdrecht Indoor Arena ('The Boombox')
Hosting: Group E, Round of 16 G1-H2, Third Place Playoff
Capacity: 17,275
City and club: Schemerdrecht: Schemerdrecht Scouts
Schemerdrecht has an ice hockey culture. Which is only interesting because the other three hosts cities don't. The Boombox is loud, as you might have guessed, and has been the centre of some small loss-induced riots. That led to some minor adjustments to the arena's layout and nowadays the 17,275 fans can vacate the arena in under 15 minutes!

Renée Lacroix Stadium ('The Melting Pot')
Hosting: Group F, Round of 16 H1-G2, Semifinal
Capacity: 15,390
City and club: Aminey: Aminey-Beaulieu Australics (Basketball)
Aminey is traditionally the most important city of Ko-oren, lying right in the middle of the bay with excellent transport to all corners of the main island. The nickname for the stadium is because of the city being a melting pot (of all different parts of the archipelago), but got a second meaning after the ice rink was built, but the lighting proved too hot and kept melting the ice.

Blue Valley Ground ('The Ballerina Arena')
Hosting: Group G, Round of 16 E1-F2, Quarterfinal E1/F2-G1/H2
Capacity: 30,000, but only up to 14,000 seats will be used
City and club: Greencaster: Greencaster Moonlight (Gridiron) and Olympic Greencaster (Soccer)
Greencaster is the highest lying host city in sports obsessed Greencaster. This is the only outdoor stadium in the WCoH, used by some of Ko-oren's largest clubs. Keep an eye on the weather report before heading out, there is no roof or even the slightest protection from the elements.

Willowbourne Indoor Arena ('The Waffle Iron')
Hosting: Group H, Round of 16 F1-E2, Quarterfinal F1/E2-H1-G2
Capacity: 9,550
City and club: Willowbourne: Willowbourne-Wintercester (Basketball)
Willowbourne is a spacious metropolis on the southern coast, bordering the rugby obsessed southeast and the generally sports crazy southwest. It is known for its many parks and city surrounded forests, but it is also the gateway to Ko-oren for many with the archipelago's largest port.

Traveling in Ko-oren

This is a safe country. Spending your time in the archipelago, even in the bigger cities, is safe and secure. However, it can also be a bit boring. Ko-oren is known for its great outdoors, not so much for its city life, but seeing as you're here for the WCoH, city is what you will see, most likely. Don't worry, there is still enough to do, from historical buildings, to modern architecture, to museums, and so on... but nightlife is a bit dull. Alcohol is still forbidden in Ko-oren.

Your best bet to traveling around is by rail. That goes for small distances within cities (metro) and for longer distances to towns and cities. There are buses, but those mainly zoom around suburbs. Public transport is cheap and reliable, often more so than taxis.

Police in Ko-oren is fair, and chances are you will be cautioned rather than fined. Some things to keep in mind though: fines are to be paid on the spot (especially as a foreigner), you are required to keep your passport and visa on you, alcohol is banned, though weed is legal.

Ko-orenites are a multilingual bunch. English, French, Dutch, Portuguese and Japanese are spoken all throughout Ko-oren (all five have a clear regional bias, but you can find speakers for any of these five languages anywhere with ease). Furthermore, there are substantial numbers of speakers of German, Welsh, Korean, Mandarin, Russian, Turkish and Mongolian.

There are many trains between the four host cities. Depending on where you come from and where you go to, look for different line colours (travel advice starts at first city to second named city. Reverse for other direction):

Between Aminey and Schemerdrecht: Black line, takes 3 hours and 2 minutes.
Between Aminey and Greencaster: Red line, takes 1 hour and 4 minutes.
Between Greencaster and Willowbourne: GW line (no colour), takes 1 hour and 12 minutes.

Between Aminey and Willowbourne: go to Greencaster (Red line), change for Willowbourne (GW line, no colour).
Between Greencaster and Schemerdrecht: go to Aminey (Red line), change for Schemerdrecht (Black line)
Between Willowbourne and Schemerdrecht: go to Greencaster (GW line, no colour), change to Aminey (Red line), change to Schemerdrecht (Black Line)

All trains on these lines run every twenty minutes between 7:00 and 21:00. After 21:00, trains go once an hour until midnight. Between 5:00 and 7:00, trains go once an hour. Between midnight and 5:00 there are no trains.

Willingsley Arena:
Hosting: Group A, one Round of 16 Series (D1 vs. C2), One Semifinal

Willingsley Arena, located in the Capital District, is the home of the Gregoryisgodistan National Team. As part of Gregoryisgodistan's previous (unsuccessful) bid for the World Cup of Hockey, it was recently expanded to seat 11,000 fans. Ordinarily, fans of visiting teams are forced to hang from the rafters at Willingsley Arena, but for this tournament, they will be allowed in the stands as well. Additionally, there is room for another 1,500 of them to hang from the rafters should there be enough demand for tickets, bringing the capacity up to 12,500. It is the largest hockey-specific arena in Gregoryisgodistan, though as you will soon find out, not the largest arena in Gregoryisgodistan capable of hosting hockey. It has hosted many of Gregoryisgodistan's World Cup of Hockey home matches and seen its share of crushings.

Lord Almighty Gregory Arena:
Hosting: Group B, One Round of 16 Series (C1 vs. D2), Final

The Lord Almighty Gregory Arena is located in the Capital Distrct. As part of Gregoryisgodistan's previous bid for the World Cup of Hockey, the arena was renovated so it could hold hockey events as well as basketball events. This involved replacing the fixed seats behind the baskets with retractable seats, as the ice hockey rink is more than twice the length of the basketball court. While the overall capacity for basketball did not change and is still 17,500, the capacity for ice hockey is the slightly smaller 14,700 due to the fact that some of the seats behind what would be the baskets and on the sides are retracted to make room for the ice hockey rink. For basketball, there are now risers protruding from the end of the lower level behind the baskets that seat 900 people each. These will be retracted for the hockey matches, A few rows of seats on the sides will also be retracted for hockey because the hockey rink is wider. Although the hockey rink is 35 feet wider, it is not necessary to retract 35 feet worth of stands because there was some space between the stands and the court to make room for press tables and the scorers table. There are also special seats where the penalty boxes are in ice hockey that retract. This reduces the capacity by another 1,000 seats. The rest of the lower bowl (and the rest of the arena) will be open. As a result of this different seating arrangement, fans should keep in mind that the front row on the sides of the rink in the lowermost level is Row D, not Row A, as Rows A-C will be retracted on both sides. Behind the nets, the lowest row is row AA, since the row counting starts with the risers. Therefore, fans should be on the lookout for counterfeit tickets claiming to be in Row A of the lower level. Fans finding these tickets, or who accidentally bought such tickets, should contact the Gregoryisgodistan National Police as soon as possible, as counterfeit, fraud, and forgery are all capital crimes in Gregoryisgodistan. These laws will be enforced against anyone who knowingly sells counterfeit tickets, regardless of whether or not they are Gregoryisgodistani. The Gregoryisgodistani government will request that offenders residing abroad be extradited to Gregoryisgodistan to pay for their crimes. However, foreigners' families will not be executed.
During the renovations, LAGNU was forced to play in the much-smaller Campus Avenue Arena, located on campus, which holds a mere 3,000 fans. Campus Avenue Arena is also home to the University's volleyball team. The basketball team is expected to move back to Lord Almighty Gregory Arena full time next season.

Enemy Crusher Biggy McParis Memorial Ice Hockey Arena at King Andreas Memorial Sports Complex
Hosting: Group C, One Round of 16 Series (B1 vs. A2), One Quarterfinal (A1/B2 vs. C1/D2)

Enemy Crusher Biggy McParis Memorial Ice Hockey Arena (capacity 3,500) is located within the King Petrus XX Memorial Sports Complex in District 22. The complex is named after the current King of Saintland, very much alive, in the hopes that someday, he will be killed. Once King Petrus XX dies, if the Kingdom of Saintland is still intact, it will be renamed after the new King. If the Kingdom of Saintland has been destroyed or the monarchy has been overthrown and replaced by a government backed by either Feministvs Sanctvsterra or the Church of Gregoryisgodistan, it will be renamed Destruction of Saintland Commemorative Sports Complex. Most other venues reflect this anti-Saintland view as well.

Enemy Crusher Biggy McParis Memorial Ice Arena is named after the Enemy Crusher who was executed in Saintland for crushing ice hockey players from the Free Republics but destroyed the gallows of St. Petrus in the process.

Other venues in the complex include include Death to Saintland Stadium, a baseball stadium which was built before the rest of the complex, Death To Saintland Soccer Stadium, Enemy Crusher Von Streudel Family Football Stadium, Enemy Crusher Biggy McParis Memorial Ice Hockey Arena, Nuclear Bomb Basketball Arena, Enslave Rule Theriault Handball Center, Eye-ee-zus Is Not God Martial Arts Gymnasium, Saintland Lies Badminton Arena, The Sanctii Smell Like Horses Polo Building, Death To Queen Veronica Softball Field, Let's Blow Up Saintland Tennis Center, Death to the Patriarch of Saintland Track & Field Complex, Vindicta Progressvm Volleyball World, Nuke Saintland Gymnastics Center, Stab The Sanctii Fencing Palace, Drown the Sanctii Canoeing and Kayaking Center, Drown The Queen Water Polo Pool, Impale Consul Kulseth Rugby Field, Lord Gregory's Army Velodrome, Kill The King Wrestling Center, Beat Up The Princes Boxing Center, Feed The Sanctii To Talking Ponies Equestrian Center, Royal Liars Golf Course, King Andreas's Decapitated Head Swimming and Diving Center, and Feministvs Sanctvsterra Turf Field, which is used for field hockey and lacrosse. The complex is so large it has its own Ward within Disrict 22 - Ward 9 to be exact.

This is the smallest arena used in this tournament and also the only one with no chairbacks. Only metal bleachers are available. However, the top row of bleachers in each section (other than those behind the goals) does have a back to prevent people walking to their seats from kneeing fans in the back. If you want to have a back to your seat, be sure to request seats in the top row. As seats behind the goals are accessed from the bottom up rather than the top down, the top row does not have a back. To access the seats on each side, it is necessary to walk up a short flight of steps to a small concourse between the top row of seats and press row, then continue walking until you reach your section and walk down. For normal events, press row is only on the bench side, but due to the magnitude of this tournament, there will be additional space for the media on the penalty box side.

Update: Following the excommunication of King Petrus XX and King Andreas's ascent to the throne, the complex was officially renamed King Andreas Memorial Sports Complex beginning with the Quarterfinals.

Greglord Air Arena:
Hosting: Group D, One Round of 16 Series (A1 vs. B2), one Quarterfinal (B1/A2 vs. D1/C2)

Greglord Air Arena (capacity 6,600), located in District 2, is the only arena in Gregoryisgodistan built specifically for this tournament. It is sponsored by the national airline of Gregoryisgodistan, whose safety briefings include praying to Lord Almighty Gregory in the event of an emergency.

It is a medium-sized arena, but the acoustics make it sound extremely noisy. It was designed specifically for that purpose. The sound really bounces around and it can sound extremely raucous. It is designed to resemble an old barn. The sections on the sides of the arena are all chairback, but there are bleachers behind the goals.

Greglord Air has a strong corporate presence at this arena, the only one in the Gregoryisgodistan half with a corporate sponsor, and there will be t-shirt tosses for free t-shirts sponsored by Greglord Air in between each period. Fans in upper sections need not despair - a t-shirt cannon can reach you up there.

After the World Cup of Hockey, Greglord Air Arena will be used for training and Olympic trials in figure skating and speed skating as well as to host junior hockey matches when Willingsley Arena is booked.

What time are games played?

All days of the group stage will be played as a single-admission tripleheader, with the first game starting at 12:00 PM, the second game starting at 3:30 PM, and the third game starting at 7:00 PM. The first game listed will be played first, followed by the second and the third. (OOC: Of course, this is IC-only and all games will be scorinated at the same time) Fans buying a group stage pass will have access to all matchdays, even if they buy it through their nation's ticket office and their team has a bye that day. However, fans buying a team pass, guaranteeing tickets to all their team's games throughout the tournament for a flat rate regardless of how far they advance, will not have access to the arena on their team's bye day. They may buy single-session tickets separately.

Do you have any unusual laws?

Sure, lots. The following are all capital crimes:

Murder, theft, treason, piracy, using or possessing birth control, disturbing the peace, leaving the country without permission, attempting to defect, jaywalking, obscene gestures, pointing your finger like a gun, writing a story about how you shot your neighbor's pet dinosaur, dancing with a llama, being awake after national bedtime (after 11 PM and before 6 AM) except in order to comply with other laws, dancing with a camel, bringing a camel to the movie theater, putting a camel in a bathtub, putting a donkey in a bathtub, throwing shoes, wearing socks on your hands, standing on a chair, jumping on the bed, slamming doors, bribery, interference with the duty of a police officer, interference with the duty of a Grammar Enforcement Officer, interference with the duty of a Spelling Enforcement Officer, interfering with the duty of a Mathematics Enforcement Officer, interfering with the duty of a Pervert Chaser, riding a donkey while facing backwards, interfering with the duty of an Enemy Crusher, drunk driving, drug possession or trafficking, criticizing Lord Almighty Gregory, defacing property of the state (which is almost all property), price gouging, public or private nudity, bestiality, cheese smuggling, possession of cheese, failure to attend a public post-execution burning, singing any song other than songs of praise to Lord Almighty Gregory and the state, dancing, farting, hijacking, sticking out your tongue, assassination, gambling, publishing material critical of the state, speaking words critical of the state, using profanity, wearing pants that leave buttocks or underwear exposed, worshiping any deity other than Gregory, failing to publicly worship Gregory at least 37 times a day, public indecency, ticket scalping, fraud, counterfeit, forgery, failure to have a proper shrine to Gregory in one's house, distracting a shrine inspection agent while he is at your house, failure to give a shrine inspection agent coffee within 5 seconds of his arrival at your house, kidnapping, arson, assault, smoking, drinking alcohol, drinking orange juice, drinking pear juice, eating oranges, prostitution (for both the prostitute and client), Additionally, humiliating the nation is punishable by execution but not in the usual matter. You are sliced up into little pieces while still alive, covered in pancake batter, deep fried, and fed to Lord Almighty Gregory as a forgiveness offering.

Finally, speculating publicly or privately, either verbally or written, that Lord Almighty Gregory is not a deity is punishable by execution of you, everyone you know, everyone they know, everyone you tell your doubts to, everyone they know, everyone those people know, everyone who lives within a 50 mile radius of where you live, everyone who was within a 50 mile radius of you when you expressed those doubts, everyone who lives within a 50 mile radius of the people you told your doubts to, and everyone who was within 50 miles of them when you told them.

But of course, actually saying or writing this theory is far worse punishment.

Additionally, using bad grammar is punishable by 28 days in a Grammar Reeducation Camp for a first offense, and longer terms for repeat offenders. There are similar camps for spelling, mathematics, and vocabulary.

Oh my God, will we have to follow all those laws?

Similar to previous tournaments Gregoryisgodistan has hosted, all participants and fans at the World Cup of Hockey will be issued special papers certifying that they are there for that purpose. As long as they have those papers on them at all times, they will not be subject to the more extreme laws of the nation, such as the death penalty for saying "coconut" or farting. However, if they do not have said papers, they will be subject to all the laws. In any case, they will still be subject to the laws against murder, assault etc. which are punishable by death. This allows participants a chance to avoid having to RP being subject to the extreme laws if they don't want to, while still having a chance to RP it if they wish.

Will the prohibition on ticket scalping be enforced against foreigners?

Scalping of World Cup of Hockey tickets, defined as attempting to sell them for greater than face value, is not permitted. However, if the scalper can present papers proving they are here for the tournament, they will be fined between 100 million and 50 billion greggygodbucks (roughly between $4500 and $250,000) per ticket rather than be executed.

Is Lord Almighty Gregory really God?

Where do we fly in?

The only international airport is Lord Almighty Gregory International Airport, located in the Capital District. You can fly in there on Gregoryisgodistan's flag carrier, Greglord Air, or on your nation's airline. You will arrive at the international terminal, Terminal A. Once you clear customs, you can take a shuttle bus from Gate 45 to Gate 6 at the domestic terminal, Terminal B, where you can catch flights to destinations within Gregoryisgodistan.

What is Greglord Air like?

Greglord Air, as the national airline of Gregoryisgodistan, contains significant propaganda. Before each flight, the captain comes over the loudspeaker encouraging the passengers to pray to Lord Almighty Gregory for their safety during the journey. Afterwards, the pilot and flight attendants thank Lord Almighty Gregory for guiding their journey safely. The safety procedures include a note that in the event of an emergency, you should pray to Lord Almighty Gregory to be saved before following the other, more conventional safety methods. However, passengers are not required to do this.

How will tickets be sold for the Gregoryisgodistan half?

Tickets may only be purchased through the international ticket office, which accepts various different currencies and credit cards from all participating countries. There are several different packages available. Note that these only cover games in the Gregoryisgoditani half except as noted. Single-session tickets are also available, though the packages are discounted. Ticket prices vary by venue, but generally range from 250,000 greggygodbucks (about $10) for upper level seats in the corners to 4.5 million greggygodbucks (about $200) for front row seats at center-ice. The ticket office is reachable online or by phone, though the latter may be subject to international calling rates. Foreign transaction fees may also apply to tickets purchased outside Gregoryisgodistan, so check with your credit card company. However, no foreign currency fee should apply since the ticket office can handle many international currencies, including all of those used by participating nations, and most used by other sporting nations.

Team Pass: This team pass is available for a flat rate. It guarantees admission to all of your team's games regardless of how far they advance. It is non-refundable, meaning if your team is eliminated in the group stage, you get no money back in spite of the missed games later. It does not include tickets to the group stage matchday when your team has the bye, though fans holding team passes can buy single-session tickets to that session for a discounted price, pending availability. Ticket prices are based on the quality of the seats and the likelihood of teams to advance to later rounds. For instance, a Quebec team pass would cost significantly more than a Polkopia team pass due to the fact that Quebec is likely to advance relatively far while Polkopia isn't. This will also include tickets to the third-place match played in Ko-oren if your team makes it there, the only package that offers tickets to matches in Ko-oren as well, potentially.

Group stage pass: This package contains tickets to all sessions at a single arena in the group stage. It does not include tickets to later rounds.

Venue pass: This package contains tickets to all sessions in a single venue, from the group stage through the final. Tickets are priced based on what rounds the venue is hosting - Lord Almighty Gregory Arena costs the most because it includes final tickets, followed by Willingsley Arena which is hosting the semifinal, and the other two which are hosting quarterfinals. All venues are hosting Group Stage and Round of 16 matches.

Series Pass: Includes tickets to all games of one individual series in the knockout stage at a specific venue. Tickets are non-refundable even if the series does not go the full length. Prices will be higher for later rounds.

Despite failing to get through the group stages of the last WCoH, the Elejamian squad still received a warm welcome home, probably helped by their 4-4 draw with then-champions Havl and their 6-2 thrashing of Pyrranaya. Most of the squad is the same as last time, although there have been a few changes:

James Han has been placed in the starting/bench line-up. Han was originally scheduled to appear in the last WCoH, but was forced to pull out due to a fractured wrist.
Akio Shimasaki, his replacement, retired at the end of the 2014-15 season.
A list of reserve players have been added, just in case a player is suspended/injured and, thus, can't make it onto the bench or onto the rink.
Ron Berg, current head coach of the Mainsborough Icemen, has been brought in as an assistant manager. Despite sharing the same name, he is not related to goaltender Peter Berg, nor is he related to George Berg, right winger for the Elejamian junior squad.

The first Blue Swans team to take the ice in almost five years is a mix of old and new faces. Following the incidents at the fifth World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and the lack luster Frusennian performance at the subsequent Winter Olympics and World Cup of Hockey, both of which were blamed on the trauma in San Jose Guayabal, the Frusennian Hockey Board determined that international competition was too dangerous for Frusennian athletes.

Then, six months ago, a letter surfaced, signed by every member of the WJHC championship side and their coach, Dr. Kinzie Schved, calling on the FHB to lift the ban and allow a team to travel to the twenty-seventh edition of the World Cup. Combined with a royal intercession from King Derek, a legality that had not been seen in almost two hundred years, the FHB relented, and a Blue Swans team was allowed to train, only to be set back yet again when Gregoryisgodistan was announced as one of the co-hosts.

Demonstrations immediately began in the streets. Competing social media campaigns ensured, embodied by the hashtags #letthemplay and #hockeyforever on one side, and #downwithgreg and #gokartingwithbowser on the other, referring to the Mario Kart games wherein the heroes of the Mario series drive go-karts with Bowser, its main villain. The team nevertheless continued training, and will travel to Gregoryisgodistan or Ko-oren along with Princess Gemma, the crown princess of Frusennia, and Dr. Schved.

A pervert chaser is someone whose job it is to chase down those accused of sexually-related crimes, like mooning, nudity, indecent exposure, rape, and molestation, and cut off their private organs, then bring them in for trial, sentencing, and either a fine, slave labor, or execution depending on the offense.

What's a Horse Beater?
One form of entertainment in Gregoryisgodistan is where a Horse Beat beats horses with all sorts of torture devices, like whips, maces, pepper spray, and machetes, until the horse dies a horrible painful death. It is like rodeos, only more gruesome. These horses are randomly caught in the countryside by Horse Snatchers, then sold to Horse Recruiters, who bring them to the Horse Beating Show.

It might even happen in road matches. This will be very painful. So basically, don't indecently expose yourselves and you should be fine.
