The National Cup defeat to Mortoge still haunted the Raedburg players and supporters alike as the MPL Cup tie against Thereisnogodistan FC got underway. Perhaps Dako Redfield and the Dragons’ could make up for their loss by making it through to the semi-finals.

Thereisnogodistan had a chance to take the lead in the first ten minutes through Hugo Willmore, but an acrobatic save from Dako Zienen was more than enough to deny the striker and allowed Kale Kazern to create an attack. The right back played a through ball far up the field to Ricardo Rubin on the wing, and the Teremultese international beat a defender before whipping a cross into the box. A headed effort from Lewis Gill was saved by Arrendondo.

In the 33rd minute, right winger Olen Celis received a great pass from Rob Rockmore, and the player went on to beat Zienen and put Thereisnogodistan a goal up. Before half time Toni Kroos was denied by stopper Arrendondo at the other end, and Raedburg were punished through a counter attack after the save as Willmore increased the visiting side’s lead to 2-0.

Despite being two goals down heading into the second half, various saves from Zienen and an outstanding solo goal from Lewis Gill brought Raedburg back into the game. The Zitran stopper saved shots from scorers Willmore and Celis before 23-year-old Gill utilized his skillful dribbling to beat several defenders before going on to chip the ball over Arrendondo’s head as the score became 2-1.

It looked apparent that, with just four minutes until the final whistle, Thereisnogodistan FC would knock Raedburg out of the MPL Cup and crush the club’s hopes of another international cup run. Redfield was quick to take off fatigued Rubin and bring on Argentine midfielder Di Maria as his replacement, who would turn out to be the savior of regular time. After latching onto Gill’s through pass, the 29-year-old made a fast run down the right, cut inside the 18-yard-box, and fired home an unstoppable shot which brought Thereisnogodistan FC back to earth as the score was 2-2 at full time.

But it just wasn’t meant to be. While the first half of extra-time was almost all Raedburg, the visitors turned the tables in the second period of fifteen as Hugo Willmore netted his second goal of the game to potentially book his side a place in the semi-finals of the competition. Celis’ corner found the striker in the box, and he headed home past Zienen to make it 3-2. And when the final whistle blew, hopes of a possible MPL double were killed.

Destiny Airlines Man of the Match: Angel Di Maria - The midfielder kept Raedburg in the match with a stunning last minute goal, but couldn’t quite save the Dragons from defeat despite a fantastic performance.

Marrian McFadden reports

Polaaberg 0–6 Cornellians

Goals: 7" 34" 76" Purinton, 29" Cleopas, 57" Narita, 78" Dennis. (Cornellians)

Cornellians looked back to their best this week, with a 6-0 win in Polaaskan. Striker Eloisa Purinton was yet again the hero of the hour, as the Gloriaxian continued to show that she is a cut above the rest in the MPL.

There seems in many cases, to be something of a gulf beginning to open up between the teams at the top and the bottom. With Raedburg and Strangers having already recorded seven and eight goals in some matches, it could be said that many of the smaller teams have some catching up to do.

Cornellians were more or less at full strength for the visit to Polaaberg, and after two goalless draws back to back, that would have been welcome news. The Eagles got their first goal after seven minutes when Alexander Pearce's long cross-field pass found Jeff Dennis, who took the ball on the chest. The Mesillian then had the presence of mind to play the ball quickly forward into the path of Purinton who beat the offside trap to open her account for the day.

The Schottic side's last game against Polaaberg ended 5-0, and by this stage the fans were already shouting for more of the same. It didn't take long for their prayers to be answered, as New Edomite Dan Cleopas headed in a Dobrescu corner after doing well to get to the near post. The talented striker, showed great pace and skill to leave his marker standing, before flicking the ball in from the tightest of angles. With the score line reading 2-0 after 29-minutes, the Eagles were already on their way.

It was only another five minutes more, before Purinton got her second and the side's third. This time a scything through ball, from Narita, found the world cup star's run perfectly. The 21-year-old still had plenty to do however, but after showing real skill to hold off the challenges of two Polaaberg defenders, she dispatched her shot past the keeper, to give Cornellians a deserved 3-0 halftime lead.

Jock Sonny's men and women added another shortly before the hour mark, this time it was Tsumugi Narita turning from provider to scorer. The goal came after an excellent exchange between her and midfield partner Mark Kelman, who have now formed a strong understanding in the centre of the park. After Kelman's cute back heel Narita found herself with space, and seeing the keeper off his line, chipped the ball confidently into the top corner from 25 yards out. The Kirisakian is really beginning to come into her own with Cornellians as Sonny has begun to blend her technical ability with some of the more direct and robust, Schottic style of football.

There was still more to come from the Skots though, and Purinton's inevitable hat trick sent the travelling fans into raptures. Today was really the tale of the girls in the team, all of whom proving themselves to be important team members. The signing ofTriffid Ramsey hadn't exactly got the Eagles fans dancing around their living rooms when it was announced; rather it had them Googling the name to find out who the conference defender was. However, after a couple of assured performances, the youngster seems to be finding her feet. She play well today, coming on after 67 minutes, and getting to the by-line, she put in the cross which delivered a killer fifth goal for her new club. Once again Polaaberg had no answer to the Gloriaxian captain Purinton, as she directed her side footed volley past the keeper.

Corenllians scored their final goal virtually with the next attack, rounding off a great day at the office. This time it was a wonderful piece of skill from Jeff Dennis, who is doing his chances of being signed outright no harm at all. The tricky winger who had enjoyed a great game, cut inside the fullback before curling a shot in at the far post.

The strike was the icing on the cake for the Eagles, who will take the confidence gained here into their next match as they continue to give it everything they have in search of the coveted MPL title.

Line up: McNott 7, Lowe 7, Pearce 7 (67 Ramsey 7), Burton 7, Pabadakis 7 Dennis 8, Dobrescu 7(69 Richard 7), Kelman 8, Narita 8, Cleopas 7 (75 Bhosz 6), Purinton 10

Man of the match: Purinton. A hat trick for the Gloraixian, and Polaaberg would have been delighted to have seen the back of her, when the match ended.

Cornellians 3-0 Highale City
Lochend, Greater Handon
Goals: 18" Narita, 71" 83" Dobrescu, (Cornellians)

Cornellians welcomed Highale to Lochend, on the back of a 6-0 win over bottom side Polaaberg. The Skots knew that they couldn't afford any more slip-ups if they were to end their two-year long wait for MPL glory.

Triffid Ramsey was handed another start, this time filling in on the right for the suspended Santiago Lowe. The other change was striker Dharla Bhosz, who came in for Dan Cleopas as the player was rested.

In what turned out to be a comfortable match for the Eagles, they broke the deadlock early on. Again it was the red-hot Tsumugi Narita, who gave the home side the lead. The teenager was fastest to pounce after Cosmin Dobrescu's freekick bounced back off the wall. Purinton had first stab at it, however the ball came off the legs of a Highale defender. Getting there next, Narita hit a low shot, which made its way through everyone’s legs and into the back of the net.

Although Cornellians pressed their home advantage, it wouldn't be until the 71st minute before they were able to find the net again. This time, it was Dobrescu, who had perhaps been guilty of having taken his foot of the peddle in resent weeks, who was on target. The Jedorian, left the City rightback for dead before ghosting into the penalty area, and unleashing an un-saveable shot past the helpless keeper.

There was more to come from the attacker too, as he doubled his total on the 83rd minute. Willie McIntyre, who had been enjoying a good second half took his time in picking out the 24-year-old. Collecting the ball just inside the left hand side of the box, he turned neatly before scoring a goal, which put the result of the game beyond any doubt.

The win gives Cornellian a slim but tangible lead at the top of the MPL table. However, with tough games still to come, and some teams with a game in hand, there will be no margin for error.

In one final piece of news likely to please the fans; winger Jeff Dennis has agreed a $1.5 million deal to make his move permanent. The right-sided player had been on loan from Peacemaker, who failed to make it into this year Conference. Since joining the Eagles, Dennis has forced his way into the first team with some impressive performances.

Line up: Muller 7, Ramsey 7, Pearce 7, Burton 7, Pabadakis 7, Dennis 7 (80 Hanalii 7), Dobrescu 9, Kelman 7 (45 McIntyre 7), Narita 8, Bhosz 7, Purinton 7

Man of the match: Dobrescu. The Jedorian had a great match, full of running from start to finish.

A rare lapse from Bartolo Monteforte might have cost Dynapolis the game against Equestria HC -- and with it, the lead in the Championship -- if not for the heroics of Alinafe Mchombo.

Mchombo, who made his very first appearance for Dynapolis, coming on as a substitute in the sixty-second minute, couldn't stop the penalty, but performed admirably afterward. "Ali [Mchombo] was great for us today. We had wondered if he'd be sharp enough, because he's not had much playing time even in the reserves lately, but he was outstanding." Countess said post-game. The twenty-four year old backup goalkeeper had been called upon after starter Monteforte rushed off his line and lunged recklessly at a forward through on goal. The referee wasted no time in marching over to the Tubrissian and brandishing a red card.

With Dynapolis leading 4-2, Countess reacted by sacrificing Abiola and Daley, reverting to an unorthodox adaptation of his narrow 4-5-1 system. The back four remained, with Pesciano stepping in to join Barnes and Emilio in the middle. Ahead of them, Afolayan retained his playmaker role between the lines, while King did the hard work as a lone striker. "It's nice to have that flexibility in the squad." Countess reflected later. "A lot of teams might have crumbled in that situation, but not us. It's testament to the character of the players we have, that we can lose a key player, shuffle things around and still go on and handle what comes at us."

The Dynapolis boss may have been forgiven for being concerned in the minutes following the penalty, though. With his side's lead halved, they were perhaps a little overzealous in trying to put space between themselves and a very strong Equestrian attack. Zoe Barnes was the unfortunate party left outnumbered in midfield on the last of these attempts, and was overrun as the away side manoeuvred into shooting range. That would be the only shot Mchombo didn't stop. He couldn't have.

From two up, to level in a matter of minutes. Facing an opponent with all the momentum and twenty minutes left on the clock. Dynapolis looked likely to slip, but Countess made a change. In came the experienced Carl Wallace -- a 'destroyer'; master of what many might term 'the dark arts' -- for Zoe Barnes, struggling to dictate play from deep while being overrun in midfield. "Not Zoe's fault at all, there's usually an extra body in there, but because we were a man down, Equestria were sending a wide player in to create a mismatch. As good as Zoe is, we can't ask her to defend and create at the same time when she's got to deal with two bodies instead of just the one." Countess explained. Barnes, to her credit, appeared not to take it personally, seemingly nodding in understanding before jogging over to the touchline. "Sometimes it happens. I know my role is a bit specific, and I've been working on my defensive side, but Carl is the better choice if we need someone to just break up attacks. He's been doing it for years and he's great at it. Equally, I like to think if we needed someone to create chances from deep, I'd get the nod over Carl every time. We both understand that, it's the nature of football." Barnes said.

With Wallace's imposing and seemingly omnipresent frame occupying the deepest midfield role for Dynapolis, Equestria began pushing the ball wider instead. Perhaps not the wisest of moves when Dynapolis are fielding two of the best young fullbacks in the number one ranked football nation on the planet. "We anticipated them pushing wide," Countess told us. "But Natty and Alex are capable. They're both wingbacks really, and we've had to break their attacking mentalities a bit. The last fifteen or so, we let them step up into their natural wingback roles, Carl just tucked back a bit more."

It's perhaps no surprise that the winner eventually came courtesy of one of Dynapolis' fullbacks, then. Mchombo's full length dive to keep out a dangerous cross-cum-shot in the eighty-second minute palmed the ball out to the right channel, where Juan Tapia scooped it away. Natalie Reid picked it up, and broke away with pace, feeding Kayode Afolayan in the middle. Continuing her run, Reid received the return pass fully sixty yards later, and crossed first time. Anthony King made no mistakes, thumping a powerful header into the roof of the net.

All hands switched to defensive mode for the remainder of the match, with the occasional chance to counter being used to kill the clock in the Equestrian corners. "It was a great counter, perfect breakaway." Countess gushed. "We suspected they'd send more bodies up for the corner, and when we didn't clear our lines immediately, some of them stayed. Easy to say it was the wrong call now, but at the time, I think I would have told my players to do the same. It was a bit unlucky I suppose, but Ali [Mchombo] made a remarkable save in the first place. Without that, we're down a goal, down a man, and have less than ten to turn it around."

With Monteforte suspended for three games as a matter of course for his straight red card, Mchombo was given his first start in the cup, against That Team. This time, he kept a clean sheet, as Dynapolis sauntered to a convincing win. A double from King in the first half put the Dragons in control, before Countess introduced Montez in the second half, withdrawing King, who was nursing his right calf. "Purely precaution," Countess insisted. "We really don't want to lose him at such a crucial time in the season, that's all."

Alongside Montez, Emenanjo came in, replacing Abiola. "We changed shape a little, we know Beatriz [Montez] prefers to have a partner to play off, and we wanted to get her in the game because of that understanding she has with Kayode [Afolayan]." Countess explained. Montez went on to repay that faith, and reinforce the notion that her partnership with Afolayan could yield a lot of goals, striking twice within twenty minutes of the second half to all but decide the match before the seventieth minute.

Dynapolis are now the only team left in the cup outside the top five of the Premier League, and heavy underdogs from here on out. "Doesn't really matter does it? It's a single game, anything can happen." Countess remarked. It's hard to argue with him, though logic would dictate that facing the undefeated leaders of the Premier League will face too stern a challenge, even for a resurgent Dragons side. "We know what we're up against, and before the Equestria match, I think we had the best defensive record in any division. Best team or no, that won't be easy for them, I think." Dynapolis captain Emilio Tapia stated, defiantly. "We can hurt them. And we're not hurt easily. We can do it. It will take everything we've got, but we can do it, and I know the rest of the team believes this too."

THE DREAM IS OVER; VENTA DE LA MESILLA'S STRANGERS END ARSENAL'S CUP RUN IN EXTRA TIME

By Malik Qazizadah

VENTA DE LA MESILLA - Multiverse Premier League side Strangers FC proved their mettle against the red-hot Conference side Arsenal de Releinthi as the Strangers defeated the Gunners 4-3 in extra time.

The first half was mostly possession play by the two sides, with the Mesillano side getting first blood courtesy of Estenian center back Andre Lokomarav, who nodded in the corner kick from Trevor Hyde in the 32nd minute. However, just before half-time Arsenal managed to pull a goal back when David Osisek made a sublime pass to Gal Tza'eer, who passed it back to Osisek who then smashed the ball into the goal with quiet confidence.

In the second half, Strangers continued their pressure on the Arsenal half, and they were soon rewarded with goals from Hyde and Karyl Bayne. Hyde shot the ball from 18 yards into the far post, while Bayne was the recipient of a Christian Cleveland corner. However, Arsenal weren't about to go out of this cup tie without a fight. Godzilla finally got the Gunners' hopes up when he knocked in a 29-yard free kick, and Godric Wexler's first substitution of the game, Selim Tiryaki, hit the ground running and banked in Ralph Dominguez's errant shot to put Arsenal back on level terms with Strangers. The Mesillanos weren't able to come up with a game winner in the seven minutes of added time, and the game went into extra time.

The extra time period for this game was a far cry from the excitement of the second half, with both sides once again content to play possession football and quite possibly bring the game to penalties. But Strangers was about to have a hero in Jules Walsh, who came on at the start of the second half of extra time in place of Gottlieb Rieglberg. In the 112th minute, Walsh was able to find a gap between the Arsenal defense, and she sent in a shot that went between two players and actually nutmegged the unfortunate Bradford Jones, who could only sit down on the ground after the goal had gone in. Arsenal tried very hard to find an answer, but this time it was the Gunners that were denied by time.

Strangers will face off against fellow Fleftic side Thereisnogodistan FC in the semifinals of the MPL Cup.

ARSENAL SECURE LEAGUE DOUBLE AGAINST ROYAL PWFC WITH 6-1 WIN AT MONSANTO STADIUM

RELEINTHI, ABANHFLEFT - Arsenal de Releinthi are just four games away from securing the Multiverse Conference B trophy. And the Gunners greased their way to that moment by racking up a massive 6-1 victory over the Royal Professional Women's Football Club, completing yet another league double in a league in which Arsenal had been the most dominant team.

Godzilla started off the proceedings with a cheeky chip over the Royal keeper. He followed up with his second goal just minutes later with a screamer from 22 yards out that the keeper was helpless to defend. Gal Tza'eer got his name on the scoresheet with a screamer of his own, this one from 30 yards out and taking a deflection from both a defender and the crossbar before landing in the back of the net.

Things almost didn't start well for Arsenal in the second half, when Evangelos accidentally headed the ball into his own goal while defending from a Royal corner. Bradford Jones managed to tip the ball away, but it hit the left post and went in anyway. But the own goal would eventually matter little in this game as Arsenal continued their domination of the visitors. Paul Leduc, who was subject to rumors of a move out of Monsanto, showed why Godric Wexler was wise to keep him around by stealing balls from the opponents' attack and then managing to score a goal himself when he nodded in the corner kick from Ralph Dominguez.

Selim Tiryaki, who replaced Tza'eer on the field, hit the ground running and banged in his goal for this game just ninety seconds after coming onto the pitch. Godzilla finally completed his hat trick when the ball struck the outside of his left foot and went into the goal while he was just loitering around the area. The pass had come from Elliot Edison, who had misjudged the strength of his kick and was attempting a cross, not a pass.

HAPPY DAYS AS THEREISNOGODISTAN WIN OVER UC GENUA 2-0

By Malik Qazizadah

THEREISNOGODABAD, FHULGHAMOUS PENINSULA - Thereisnogodistan came out confident winners against UC Genua as the two sides clashed in Richard Dawkins Park. Coming into this game, Thereisnogodistan was working on securing fourth place for themselves, while Genua continued to flirt ever closer with the relegation zone.

The game was already in Thereisnogodistan's hand from the first kick-off, but it was only in the 31st minute that their efforts were finally rewarded with a goal. Hugo Willmore skirted around his marker as Olen Celis played the ball into the box with a cross. Willmore chested down the ball before sending it rocketing into the back of the net. The keeper was too short to keep the ball out of the goal, and he could only watch from the ground as the ball hit the net and set off a cheer from the home crowd.

The second half of the game played out more or less the same as the first half, with Thereisnogodistan controlling every aspect of the game and not letting Genua to play. But once again it took a lot of time before the team was rewarded with a deserved second goal. Bud Wingert had been subbed in for Zack Ervin twenty minutes into the second half, and his efforts to get his team a second goal finally paid off when he found himself going on a run with Olen Celis running with the ball to his right. Celis crossed the ball, and Wingert was there to head the ball past the keeper.

THEREISNOGODISTAN ESCAPES WITH 3 POINTS AT VAL HALLA WITH 1-0 VICTORY OVER HIGHALE CITY
By Malik Qazizadah

VAL HALLA - Karimabdul Dimaintindihan is becoming a household name for followers of the Multiverse Premier League and Abanhfleft's [i]Liga Ikalawa{/i] as the Oontaznik midfielder is showing himself to be a very rare breed of football player: the clutch player who scores the critical goal for his team.

Thereisnogodistan came into this game looking to secure fourth place, a title challenge being far from the books now. Meanwhile, Highale City was looking for a win to keep themselves at arm's length from the relegation zone. But it seemed as if someone upstairs had other plans for both teams, as while both played well enough, they weren't able to convert anything for almost the entirety of the match. The closest a person on the field came to scoring a goal was when Tanner Keener steered the ball towards the net following an Olen Celis corner. Unfortunately the ball hit the crossbar and went high, leaving the scores level up until the last ten minutes.

It was then that things started to change for Thereisnogodistan. Rob Rockmore was brought down 33 yards from goal, in a good position for a free kick. Karimabdul Dimaintindihan, who had made headlines by being a free kick magician, was selected to do the honors. He hoofed the ball above the wall, and then it curved for the far post. The keeper tried to stretch out and parry it away, but the distance was simply too far and the ball went into the net unimpeded.

Cornellians won 3-1 and they are advancing to the semi finals of the MPL cup. Pogoń Międzyzdroje are eliminated. FREE KICK GIVES ARSENAL VITAL WIN OVER ALLIEZ FC

RELEINTHI, ABANHFLEFT - It took until the second half before the ball was put in the back of the net, but Arsenal de Releinthi finally managed to do it, and in the process they knocked Alliez FC out of title contention and put Arsenal on a clear path to the trophy.

Chances for both teams were few and far between as Alliez made to park the bus and prevent Arsenal from getting yet another win in a long string of them. The attempt to stall the red-hot Arsenal from scoring a goal was effective, at least for the first half. Arsenal's only clear chance in the first half came just four minutes before half-time, when Godzilla's volley cleared the defenders before being tipped just over the bar by the Alliez keeper.

In the second half, Arsenal managed to up the tempo, but only by a little. Alliez were clearly hanging on for their lives to eke a point out of the contest. But then Godric Wexler brought in Selim Tiryaki, and then Arsenal kept coming closer and closer to the Alliez goal. Finally, Tiryaki was brought down 35 yards from the box by a desperate Alliez defense, resulting in a free kick for the Gunners. He and Godzilla lined up for the shot, but it was Tiryaki who took the shot. The ball went high above the defensive wall, and it looked as if it would go over the goal too but then it took a little dip that took it in between the small space between the crossbar and the keeper's outstretched hand.

This win means that mathematically, Arsenal have already won the Conference B. Even if they lost their next two games, the two teams nearest to Arsenal (Emeros FC and Alliez FC) can only get up to 41 points, with five points left to bridge the gap between them and Arsenal. The Conference B trophy and automatic promotion to the Championship are now all but assured for Arsenal de Releinthi,

SOUTHWEST EASTNORTH - Arsenal de Releinthi visited Southwest Eastnorth for their second league game against Lanier AC. The game would end up being quite a lopsided affair, with Arsenal dictating everything from tempo to chances to even when the game started and ended, although the last part may be hyperbole.

Arsenal was all business in the first half, with Gal Tza'eer sending the team's first goal into the net just ten minutes after the start of the match. Godzilla followed up with a goal of his own that took a deflection from the keeper's hand but nevertheless went into the net.

The second half of the game was pretty much the same, as Ralph Dominguez converted his own chance from 20 yards after just his first touch. Substitute midfielder Pereirinho added his name to the scoresheet when he headed in the ball from a Dominguez corner.

Lanier had a few chances to score and convert, but the closest they came to scoring was in the first five minutes of the game, when a forward manage to penetrate Arsenal's defensive line, but his shot ended up just putting a dent in the crossbar.

Having secured the double of the National Soccer League and the URFA Champions League after the 2-1 victory over Avantian champions Bayern Munich on Saturday, and with the season finished, it was expected that Raedburg would step up the pace on Multiverse Premier League duty before various players departed ahead of the 2015 Regional Cup - due to begin this Friday.

First on the agenda was a trip to Highale City, a side who proved to be tough in the league last season, but seemed to have slumped come the new season sitting in eighth above only three clubs, a mere 3 points separating them from UC Gênua.

Lewis Gill started the game off well as the champions controlled the flow. The striker threaded a pass through to Toni Kroos who was floating around the box in space, looking for a pass, before the Avantian chipped a Highale City defender and allowed Gill to simply tap the ball past the goalkeeper for a comfortable lead.

With a goal advantage it was over to possession football from the Dragons, the ball being played mainly around the midfield area. However, a poorly controlled ball by Dirk Kais allowed Highale’s central midfielder to steal possession of the ball and find the equalizer with a well-timed strike, the shot well out of Dako Zienen’s reach. Jaden Araadel managed to put Raedburg back in the lead before half time, however, after fantastic passing play with Reuben Pazhkelazo and Lewis Gill. The midfielder then struck the ball with his right foot, and the shot curved round the stopper.

In the second half, Raedburg began to pressure their hosts’ half in search of a break. The champions were awarded in the 54th minute as winger Reuben Pazhkelazo sped down the left with the ball, launching it into the box and allowing Dirk Kais to get his head to it as Raedburg went 3-1 up. Following the goal it appeared that Jaden Araadel was experiencing slight problems with his ankle, and he was subsequently swapped for James Rodriguez.

It appeared that, with just 10 minutes to go, Raedburg would walk away from Highale City’s stadium with a comfortable 3-1 win. But last minute efforts from the attacking plays sparked by the midfield creator Ricardo Rubin allowed Lewis Gill to net his brace and Toni Kroos to get his name on the score sheet as the Dragons came away with a hard fought 5-1 victory.

Destiny Airlines Man of the Match: Toni Kroos - His runs throughout the game paired with his fantastic vision allowed Raedburg to create multiple scoring opportunities.

Raedburg ran riot of their visitors UC Gênua as the Dragons put a remarkable nine goals past the eighth-placed team in the eighteenth Premier League fixture of the season. A double in the first half from Lewis Gill, paired with Mario Guzen’s outstanding 25-yard goal and a great strike from Ricardo Rubin allowed Raedburg to go into half time with a four goal lead.

Early in the second half the visitors’ saw their star central defender sent off for his poor challenge on Lewis Gill in the box. The 23-year-old claimed his revenge by converting the penalty and claiming his hat-trick as the score became 5-0. Just seven minutes after Gill’s third goal of the game, Ricardo Rubin found the net after exchanging neat passes with Toni Kroos. The Teremultese international made a run and Kroos picked him out in the box, allowing Rubin to place the ball into the top right-hand corner.

The attacks continued from the hosts, and a fantastically timed break from Jaden Araadel 63 minutes in allowed center back Thiago Silva to play an extremely long ball into the Zitran before he finished it neatly and put the champions seven goals up. A 76th minute goal was scored by Gonzalez via an Adrin corner. The left-back whipped the ball into the box and the Teremultese defender was able to guide it straight to the net with his head, before substitute Dako was able to round things off with a fine goal in the 83rd minute as Raedburg emerged victors with a 9-0 scoreline.

Destiny Airlines Man of the Match: Lewis Gill - This game marked the striker’s second hat-trick this season, and he performed extremely well throughout the whole of the match before being substituted off for fellow forward Dako.

Dynapolis United's late title challenge suffered a blow in Kolbenz, as they fought back from two goals down to salvage a point. The Dragons' manager, Christian Countess, was visibly annoyed with his team's performance post-match. "We've let [Miedzyzdroje] off here. Really should have done better, and we choked." He said, jaw clenched. "We really have to step up next game, we've lost the point advantage and we're behind on goal difference. The last three games of the season are going to be tense."

The warning signs for Dynapolis were evident early on, when Kolbenz hit on the break, exploiting the space left in midfield. Zoe Barnes again being overrun in her deep-lying role, as Emilio Tapia had charged forward to support an attack. "It's a hazard of the job, I suppose." Said Barnes of her exposure. "Emilio is usually pretty good at getting back, but every now and then he doesn't have enough time. It happens." Up against two in the middle, Barnes stood no chance, and when the final ball was played through, Juan Tapia simply wasn't pacy enough to keep up. Mchomba -- filling in for the suspended Monteforte -- got a hand to the strike, but couldn't keep it out.

Kolbenz would maintain this strategy of absorbing pressure and countering for the rest of the game. It seemed to be working, so why not? Dynapolis, for their part, couldn't break through a resolute defensive stand -- despite the presence of the battering ram that is Anthony King; the big man was being far too tightly marked to make much of an impact -- and went into half time a goal down.

The deficit was doubled shortly after the break in a move almost identical to the one leading up to Kolbenz's first goal. "It's a simple move. Can't believe we got caught out by that, it's something we'll have to address in training." Countess grumbled. His side, perhaps sensing his silent rage -- or seeing the pulsing vein in his forehead approaching haemorrhage point -- responded well, though. "We could see the title slipping away," explained team captain, Emilio Tapia. "We needed to do something. Needed to react. Take control, you know?"

And take control they did. First, Countess withdrew an ineffective King, and a subdued Abiola, introducing Montez and Emenanjo instead. With the unspoken instruction to attack made clear by the substitutions, Emilio Tapia took the initiative. The dynamic midfielder displayed his admirable leadership traits with a driving run in the seventy-first minute, feeding Emenanjo with a cute chipped pass through the middle. The striker made it count.

Shortly afterward, Kayode Afolayan linked up with Beatriz Montez -- a combination that seems to have brought the best out of the forward signed from non-league Alissar Phoenix some eighteen months ago -- to level the scores. "We felt like we could complete the turnaround at this point." Afolayan explained. "If we could get in there quickly enough, we wouldn't need to commit as many players, and they wouldn't have a chance to counter." Unfortunately, Kolbenz were able to absorb the pressure in the final ten, leaving the Dragons frustrated on their journey home.

Lge-MD15: FC Kolbenz 2–2 Dynapolis United FC
Emenanjo 71
Montez 78

Despite a disappointing performance overall in Kolbenz, the Dragons could still reclaim top spot if they kept winning, a fact not lost on Christian Countess. "We just need to win. It's that simple." He said in the pre-match press conference at The Dragonpit. "Three games, three wins. That's all we can do."

In front of the Dynapolitan crowd, the Dragons looked a different side, cruising to a three goal advantage at half time thanks to goals from Daley and Abiola, either side of a superb Emilio Tapia free kick. "We just focused on the wings, they didn't seem to be able to handle Tony [Daley] and Olu [Abiola] with their pace, so we kept going there. Kept pushing, kept trying to stretch them." Emilio Tapia explained post-game. Zoe Barnes exhibited her impressive passing range, creating goals for Daley and Abiola, as well as the chance that led to Emilio Tapia's free kick strike. The first a no-look pass into the left channel for Abiola; the local-lad-who-came-good finished with an equally extravagant chip from the edge of the box. Daley's finish was far more straightforward, a low, driven strike across goal after he controlled Barnes' forty yard diagonal ball into the right channel.

Early in the second half, Dynapolis lapsed, perhaps a symptom of their dominance to that point. Fraser completely failed to track his man, allowing a simple chance. Again, like against Kolbenz, Mchombo got a hand to the strike, but was unable to keep it out. "Worst kind of feeling." The backup custodian admitted post game. "Knowing you were so close to keeping it out." The remaining buffer of two goals was halved on the hour mark, underlining Dynapolis' apparent laziness in the second half, and sparking them back into action.

Almost as if to make a point, Anthony King took it upon himself to drive straight through the middle of the SKDB defense in the eightieth minute, before unleashing a murderous strike on goal. The ball flew with such velocity, the sound as it struck the inside of the angle of post and bar reverberated clearly through the stadium. "One of my best, I think." King grinned. "Don't often hit them that well, and that accurately."

The final score may have flattered SKDB a little in the end, and sufficiently placated a furious Christian Countess. For now. "We've got a cup semi final against arguably the best team in the league, any division and a couple more league games to win," Countess said. "Three wins would be nice. And one more in the cup final for luck." He laughed, seemingly not entirely joking. "One game at a time, let's just see where this takes us."

It might have been nice to get a trophy, but they weren't champions yet.
Still, to the delight of Constantine Katsaros, they kept on plugging away at their opponents. He'd found a decent lass in the Nepharim Second Division to fill the deficiency at leftback, Sabine Scafidis - it had been the name that caught his eye, wondering if she'd be eligible. She was a couple generations away from any actual Pravennan citizen, though. But at 29, she'd never cracked the third tier, and fancied the idea of plugging the gap that Triffid Ramsey had left.
So they conceded just four goals as they breezed to the Conference A title. Didn't concede again after Lazaridis arrived. Beat Olastaryn FC 1-0 at home, comfortable but lacking the finishing touch. Alex Malone missed from five yards, but Sarah Dennis came off the bench for a 74th-minute winner. A dull away 0-0 with Sporting Sangti, a header from Katsalidis enough to beat SouthFord United, and after winning 1-0 over That Team thanks to rock-solid defending and Michaels on the counterattack and 3-0 over Vainal FC, they were 8 points clear at the top. They didn't let their heads fall, though. Just kept doing the job. Feirsen sank the Kings, Bartok sank Deportivo, Midstreet sank Pirankoper. All 1-0, all without real stress at the back. Still, the goals were a concern... but fortunately, Theo Michaels played his way back into form after a lean streak, exactly when they needed him. He rose high to head home against Nabaek FC before Bartok cut through about three defenders before rolling the ball between the goalkeeper's legs. And then, in the final match of the season... against Badtunna Rovers. The only side to have beaten them, but they'd beaten them twice, once in the Cup (where Tsakiris had been used in goal instead of Stasinopolous) and once in the league. Oh, and they were at home.
So of course Michaels struck a perfect hat-trick. Left, right, head. The Saints finished with 17 wins from 20, 13 points over their nearest rivals. It had been almost too easy.
No trophy yet, but champagne was waiting for them in the dressing room after the match, direct from the Generallissimo. Feirsen was already trying to force open a bottle as Katsaros walked in.
"What's all this gold shit?" he muttered. "Just gotta get to the good part..."
"Give it here," said Katsalidis.
"Nah, mate, I've got this-"
The manager cleared his throat. Feirsen nearly dropped the bottle.
"Focus, lads, focus."
"But, guv..." Feirsen stared longingly at the bottle in his hands.
"Well..." Alright, maybe they did deserve some reward. "Yeah, but not yet. Have you all forgotten there's still a playoff left?"
At least half the guilty expressions in the dressing room said 'yes'. Katsaros sighed.
"Look, there's a reason there's Conferences A and B. Arsenal de Releinthi's still out there, waiting for us - they've been winning matches left, right and centre."
"Oh, right. Fuck," muttered Feirsen, sinking down on a bench and putting the bottle of champagne back in a bucket of ice.
"It's been a long campaign - you've all done fantastically well, lads and lasses, better than I could ever imagine. But we need silverware, damn it! That's what we're here for!"
"I've... seen a couple Arsenal matches," said Jess Peacock tentatively. She was leaning on a wall, arms crossed. "Reckon they're the kind of team that'd play right into our hands. We've the best defence in the Conference - maybe the best in the lower two divisions, even."
Sgouros nodded. "We can take 'em, guv'nor."
"I know you can. I know all of you are capable of it." Katsaros scanned the room. "It's been a fresh start for you, hasn't it? All of you, in a way. And I've needed you all to do your part, and none of you have let me down. Now I just need one last win from you - a big performance from each of you, full of heart and steel, the performances I know you're capable of."
"Right, gaffer!" Shouts rang out from around the dressing room. Not just the big players - the squad players, too, were dedicated to this. Metaxas, who hadn't scored throughout the season. Tsakiris, the backup goalkeeper. Bishop, Pagonis, Lekas, Johannsen.
Katsaros grinned. He knew they'd all walk through fire for him. "Alright, then. Let's go out and win us a fucking trophy."

Cornellians 3-0 Dynapolis United FC
Lochend, Greater Handon
Goals: 12" 27" Cleopas, 55" Purinton, (Cornellians)

Cornellians FC are through to the final of the first ever MPL Cup, with a comfortable win over second tier champions Dynapolis United. The side from Osarius will be commended on being the only non Premier League to make the last four, and they will no doubt be an exciting addition to the top flight next season. However on the day, the big spending Schottic side's wealth of international talent, was just too much for the Dragons.

The Eagles looked confident going into the game, feeling the benefit of what was otherwise a rest week. The Schottic side are the only team who have not yet lost a match this season, and they never looked in the mood to break their duck today.

Mark Kelman, who has been enjoying a fantastic season, will be doing his chances of making the Schottia starting eleven for the World Cup qualifiers no harm at all. The former Handon Uinted and Port James midfielder was at the heart of everything that was good about Cornellians in this match. It was his clever pass to Kirisakian teammate Tsumugi Narita, which allowed the latter to break free of Emilio Tapia in the centre of the park. The 15-year-old DBC squad player then chipped the ball into the path of Dan Cleapas, who duly tucked his shot away past Monteforte in the United goal to open the scoring.

Cornellians' second came soon after, when Jeff Dennis this time played an delightful long ball into the path of Eloise Purinton. The Gloriaxian hit-kid as always was cool and composed, holding off the challenge of Alexander Scott, before flicking the ball back to teammate Cosmin Dobrescu. The Jedorian attacker then scooped an in swinging cross, which caught out everyone except Cleapas who slotted home his second of the game.

After the second goal went in the Eagles were forced to set up camp, as the opposition sensed it was now or never. Tony King in particular was impressive, as his 38 minute strike drew a good save out of Jeremy McNott. That said Jock Sonny's players were able to see out the half, as the back four of Santiago Lowe, Scott Burton Alexander Pearce and Triffid Ramsey, did their jobs admirably.

The second half began the same way as the first had ended, however this time Adiran wingback Lowe excellently robbed Abiola of possession. The player then took the ball forward, before switching wings, with a cross-field pass into the feet of Ramsey. The Nepharim lass had half a pitch of open space to run into, as the Eagles sprung the counter attack. There were huge shouts from the fans for the youngster to "go herself" however, she unselfishly slid the ball across to Purinton who put the ball in the back of the net to end the game as a contest.

There were other chances in the match but the third goal succeeded in taking the sting out of things. In the end Cornellians were able to ride out the win, in a result, which will give them a much needed confidence boost.

Next up it's pretty much the two most important matches the Eagles have ever had to negotiate, and it will be a real test of their metal. The End of the season decider against Raedburg of Zitru. A win for either side would see them lift the trophy, however a draw would see the title slip into the hands of rivals Strangers. In addition to this they have the added pressure of the cup final, where they take on Thereisnogodistan, a side they have traditionally struggled against. Either way, it has been a good season for the Schottic side, but leaving with nothing at the end of it would be a bitter pill to swallow.

Line up: McNott 7, Lowe 7, Ramsey 7, Burton 7, Pearce 7, Dennis 7 (60 McIntyre 7), Dobrescu 9, Kelman 8 (81 Richard 5), Narita 7, Cleopas 8, Purinton 7 (75 Bhosz 7)

Man of the match: Kelman. Solid as a rock in the centre of the park, one of the top midfielders in the Schottic game now.

ARSENAL DE RELEINTHI TAKE HOME CONFERENCE B TROPHY WITH 2-0 WIN OVER SZATEC INVITATIONAL

By Malik Qazizadah

RELEINTHI, ABANHFLEFT - Arsenal de Releinthi marked the end of a great and remarkable season in the Multiverse Conference with a 2-0 win against Szavoda's SzaTec Invitational XI to win the Conference B trophy and secure a spot in Buyan's The Nine for the playoff against Pravenna's Augustinople Saints to determine who gets promoted to the Championship.

Arsenal dominated the entirety of the game, with the first attack for the Gunners coming just six minutes into the game, when Godzilla fired a low volley into the lower left corner of the net, but the SzaTec keeper was equal to the effort, for the moment.

Arsenal finally found the breakthrough they needed in the 25th minute, when Godzilla brought in a 32-yard free kick after lifting the ball above the wall and then steering it into the left corner out of reach of the keeper.

It took until deep into the second half before Arsenal found their second goal, and it came courtesy of substitute midfielder Jude Telford, who struck the ball at an acute angle from the mouth of goal that was intended to be a pass to a surging Godzilla but took a lucky bounce that sent it curving for the right post before bouncing into the goal.

Arsenal lifted the Conference B trophy in Monsanto Stadium, their first piece of silverware since winning both the Fleftic Premier League and the FFF Cup last season. The only team standing on the way to promotion to the Multiverse Championship is Pravenna's Augustinople Saints, which also won Conference A, the other segment of the Multiverse Conference. The two teams will play against each other in Buyan's The Nine to determine the winner of the Conference itself.

INVINCIBLE NO MORE! ARSENAL DE RELEINTHI FALLS AGAINST SCREECHING HORDES 2-1
By Malik Qazizadah

Image
Arsenal de Releinthi's manager Godric Wexler hangs his head in shame after Screeching Hordes handed Arsenal their first ever loss in the Multiverse Conference. This was the same team that Arsenal once demolished 8-1 on their home ground. (Courtesy of Crescent News Network Sports Channel/Mustafa Imamullah)

TSARTSAROTH - Arsenal de Releinthi slipped up the opportunity to secure at least a point in their second meeting against Tsartsaroth's Screeching Hordes and gave the Fleftic club their first ever loss in the Multiverse Conference.

Arsenal as always took the lead early on in the game, with Elliot Edison heading in a corner kick from Ralph Dominguez in just the 18th minute. But Screeching Hordes managed to stage a quick comeback, when Screeching Hordes Good 10 broke away from its defender to slot the ball home between the left post and Bradford Jones' outstretched hand.

It was Screeching Hordes that finally took the lead in the first minute of injury time when Screeching Hordes Good 9 struck a ferocious free kick that Jones managed to get his hands on the ball but was not able to prevent it from slipping from his grasp and going into the goal.

Arsenal tried their best to get at least one more goal past Screeching Hordes, but the hosts' defense and goalkeeper held firm against the pressure, even managing to do what was thought impossible and tossed Godzilla's screamer just over the crossbar. Arsenal's final clear-cut chance was in the dying minutes of added time, when Gal Tza'eer and Selim Tiryaki combined to create a shot at goal, but Tiryaki's bullet slammed right into the post before being cleared away by the defense.

But even though Arsenal lost the game against Screeching Hordes, it was of no consequence as Arsenal are already mathematically assured of winning the league. Even then, the team and their manager Godric Wexler were a bit disappointed that they weren't able to win the season without a defeat in the league.

THEREISNOGODISTAN TRIUMPHS OVER STRANGERS; HEADED FOR MPL CUP FINAL

By Malik Qazizadah

Image
Thereisnogodistan players wave to their supporters following their victory against Strangers in the MPL Cup semifinals. Goals from Tanner Keener and Feofilakt Demetri were enough to send Thereisnogodistan to The Nine in Buyan, where they will contest the MPL Cup against Schottia's Cornellians. (Courtesy of Crescent News Network Sports Channel/Obadiah Schencker)

THEREISNOGODABAD, FHULGHAMOUS PENINSULA - Thereisnogodistan FC finally managed to win against Venta de la Mesilla's Strangers FC this season, winning their MPL Cup tie against the Mesillano side to see the Atheists through to the MPL Cup Final.

Strangers opened up the scoring at the last five minutes of the first half, with Christian Cleveland evading his marker and slotting the ball home after a neat through-ball from Gottlieb Rieglberg.

Thereisnogodistan responded soon after the start of the second half, with captain Tanner Keener receiving the ball from Olen Celis's corner kick and nodding it home beyond the reach of the Strangers keeper. Thereisnogodistan's second goal came with just about ten minutes left to play, with substitute forward Feofilakt Demetri got through the Strangers defense and made a confident strike that slipped between the keeper's legs. It was enough to send Thereisnogodistan to the MPL Cup Final.

"This is truly a historic moment for Thereisnogodistan," manager Danny Rhombus said in the post-game interview. "We are a young club, but we are also an ambitious club. Advancing to the finals of the MPL Cup is a dream come true for all of us. We only got as far as the third round proper in our first ever FFF Cup campaign, and the campaign for the MPL Cup has certainly turned much better for us. We really want to win the final, but whoever we'll be facing against in Buyan for the trophy will be fighting just as hard as we are. We're all willing to do what it takes to put some silverware in our trophy cases."

Thereisnogodistan will be facing off against Schottia's Cornellians in the MPL Cup Final, to be held in The Nine in Dyatinsk, Buyan, home of MPL Championship side Dyatinsk Barbarians. Thereisnogodistan has always struggled to score against the Schottian side, but the MPL Cup is a cup competition, and sometimes only one goal is enough to seal victory.

A win at Thereisnogodistan FC would take some of the pressure off of the double winners ahead of the final Premier League fixture against Cornellians, which has coincidentally turned out to be the decider for which of the top three clubs will claim their first Multiverse Premier League title. But a trip down to the Fhulghamous Peninsula has always been tough for the Dragons.

The match didn’t get off to the best of starts for the Zitran champions as they went a goal down in the 4th minute. Striker Hugo Willmore made a great run after kick-off, threading the ball through to Olen Celis who, owed to some sloppy defending on Raedburg’s part, struck the ball well past Zienen. And nine minutes later, Willmore found the net to put Thereisnogodistan FC 2-0 up. It looked like it was going to be a long away game for the champions.

But it wasn’t long before Raedburg found their touch as Jaden Araädel brought them back into the game, finely finishing a fantastic pass from Lewis Gïll. A mere minute later, Gïll leveled for the Dragons after skipping past center backs Joey Renniger and Paul Malachi, before serving Edwardo Carasco a quick nutmeg and chipping Wally Arrendondo. Nice.

Just as things were looking up for the champions, an unfortunate mistake from Dako Zienen allowed Willmore to pounce and put Thereisnogodistan FC 3-2 up as the whistle blew. The Zitran international was able to parry away a shot from Olen Celis, who scored the opener, but could not gather the ball quick enough to prevent the hosts’ deadly striker from finding the net. Again.

For forty-five minutes the Dragons made attack after attack after attack, just hoping to find an equalizer and keep them in the title run for the last day of the Multiverse Premier League. Hopes seemed to fade as 23-year-old Lewis Gïll, perhaps one of the best strikers in the world at the moment, was taken off the field and a young Adrian Klurse, 18, was brought on in his place. But the fans’ prayers were answered by the youngster.

Just seven minutes after coming onto the field for his Multiverse Premier League debut, Adrian Klürse beat Arrendondo to bring the score to 3-3 and claim his sixth goal since his promotion to the first team in 2014. Defensive midfielder Dirk Kaïs was able to pick the starlet out in the 18-yard-box, and Klurse chested the pass before volleying it into the net. A truly stunning goal, and perhaps a contender for goal of the season.

Destiny Airlines Man of the Match: Adrian Klürse - The youngster showed his potential with an outstanding goal that has kept Raedburg well in the race for the title - on his debut too!

The Dragons are still in this fight. #ForwardRaedburg

Cup Final

Cornellians 3–1 Thereisnogodistan FC

Conference Final

Arsenal de Releinthi 1–1 Augustinople Saints (2–2 AET) (4–3 pen.)

As such, the second season of the Multiverse Premier League comes to an end. Work and such disallows me (as far as I see at the moment) to continue scorinating the MPL and I apologize for the bumpy moments in this ride. A new host (or ‘president’, someone who opens sign-ups and searches for a host) would be welcome – I’m looking slightly into the direction of our active participants here. Please move that discussion to the OOC thread, as anything upon the format – by example, would a larger first tier and a system with only two tiers be admirable (to raise the amount of competition/RPers within?)?

I’ld like to thank all of you who partook and hope you’ve enjoyed it. My congratulations to our new champions, Raedburg, my commiserations to their runner-ups Strangers FC. I hope that the loss of the last match for Cornellians will be consoled with the very first MPL Cup Title – in which my sincere commiserations to the lads from Thereisnogodistan FC who certainly deserved some silverware as well. Congratulations as well to Dynapolis FC and Arsenal de Releinthi (and Augustinople Saints), our other victors of this season.
