Maybe you could do a "we are not giving up our players for the WCoH" thing like the NHL does and play with a prospect team or with players playing abroad à la Spengler Cup Team Canada (I have a few in Savojarna btw, in case you'd have lost track - they aged along with the rest of the league and I can give you an overview if you like) until you get some rank back. Or, you know, maybe that's how you find out the OJL isn't as good as you thought anymore, which could be interesting for RPing too. I used my own disappointing results as basis for a major league reform this year and used it for things like political coups and changes due to frustrated fans in the past. Could also be upheaval within the league or confederation, which is my thing if I have not enough time to RP stuff domestically.

All in all, I get why it's frustrating to have dropped in the rankings while canonically retaining a good league, and every nation designed with ice hockey as their national sport somewhat has that issue when starting, but I think it's a bit baseless to reset rankings based on that when there hasn't been a massive change in the system of the WCoH.

An upset would fit perfectly with a cheesy storyline I'm planning. It would be so canon.

Pretty much this, though since the Ontorisan team was absent for the past few competitions, it might be worth trying to come up with a reason for that as well. Maybe the hockey board had its funding stripped since the last time they were in the tourney, maybe it was a protest against something that got a bit out of hand or, much like Savo suggested, maybe your governing body didn't want to give up its best players for one reason or another but didn't have a good enough pool of prospect players or a good enough B-side to send over in their place. Completely up to you, mate.

P.S. If we are having a pre-WCoH tourney, then I'd definitely be up for it. After all, the Icy Elephants could probably use the warming up and it might be a good practice for anyone else as well.

I don't know if you really need a specific rule for that, but it is definitely some advice I'd always give to any prospective hosts for any event that are just starting out. Means that you're much less likely to be accused of tampering with results or whatever if things look how they're generally expected to look. But again, IMHO, I don't think there's any need to enshrine that bit of general good hosting advice as a specific rule that must be followed.

Good point, especially since I've calmed down a bit since I wrote that so I don't know if we should keep this or scrap it and go back to it merely being advice. Not to mention my bizarre yet passionate hatred for away@home being used outside of baseball played a part in me coming up with that, which ended up being somewhat justified during the last competition because of the aforementioned semi-final game.

I'm looking forward to it, especially since I've been on both sides of an upset and they're always fun to read and RP about.

Isn't bizarre yet passionate hatred a fundamental fuel of sports emotions? continues to glare at almost all aspects of the NHL that are not actual hockey, and then at some of the hockey aspects too

I guess, especially when you look into how far the hatred stretches back, why it began, any elaborate displays people have done and all that. But when you have a bizarre yet passionate hatred directed towards the way scores are shown then maybe you're taking things a wee bit too far.

P.S. We just need one more sign-up and then we'll have 48 teams taking part at the WCoH, which should be enough for eight groups of six. Of course, it all depends on what Equestrian States has to say since they're hosting the tournament but I figured I might as well give an update.

Speaking of which, is anyone up for some pre-tournament friendlies? Mostly to get our teams warmed up for the new competition but also because it would give us both something to RP about. Though the big question would be if we resurrect the old ice hockey friendlies thread or someone creates a new one.

I'd be up for a few friendlies. I could use one or two friendlies in Ko-oren to help an RP line I'm working on.

I'm too lazy to RP about friendlies, but I don't mind if anyone else wants to say their team's training included a friendly against a team from the Sherpa Empire.

I probably won't be RPing much this time around, just cos I am OOCly in the wrong frame of mind, but ICly, my nation still has its hockey league and there is still a reasonable amount of support from the Ministry of Culture, so ICly it would not be weird to have a friendly or two.

Completely understandable. Here's hoping that you'll be alright when the next WCoH comes around.

P.S. I'll give your team a friendly game but to make things a lot fairer I can have my B-team (which is essentially my team from the 10th Winter Olympics) play your team if you want me to. Either way, since I'll RP the match in a pre-tournament RP, do you want it to be in my nation or yours?

Fine with me. If you want, we can do a home and away thing (I'll even let you decide who's hosting the first game), though if that's not your bag then you can also decide if you want the match to be in Ko-oren or in Elejamie.

OOCly, I don't have a preference. ICly, the Ministry of Culture would like to host it in our city of Xiamen.

And I don't have a preference either, so I'm more than happy to send the Elejamian B-team over to Xiamen for a friendly match to warm your guys up. All we need to do now is to find someone to scorinate the match and we're all set.

Want a Savojarna Cup invite again?

(For those who don't remember, the SVJ Cup is a short friendly "tournament" akin to the Deutschland Cup, Slovakia Cup, Karjala Cup etc. for around four teams, one of which is Savojarna. The concept is basically that you play three friendlies on neutral ground in Savojarna, put into a Round Robin. There is no RP or anything, the results just get posted in the friendly thread and if you wanna RP you can do so in the WCoH thread)

Sure. In fact, if Ko-oren's fine with it, we can have our pre-tournament friendly as part of the Savojarna Cup instead of my "home and away" idea, though my B-team's friendly with The Sherpa Empire's main team will still be its own one-off thing.

I could echo these sentiments almost exactly. Substitute 'Neu Engollon' for 'Sherpa Empire' and 'Ministry of Athletics' for 'Ministry of Culture' and you have my situation precisely. A lot going on so no RP promises, but IC, my nation is always up for friendly competition.

Sure, we can do a home and away series. First match in Ko-oren (specifically, in Schemerdrecht), I'll hear what the away fixture will be.

As noted in the signup thread, Omerica will be replacing CTE'd Flekkefjord. Also, since I wasn't able to find updated post-WCoH 36 rankings, I went ahead and did them myself. If anyone finds any errors, please let me know ASAP.

Pots for the group draw have been edited into the everything thread OP, for those who are interested.

1. For the good of organization.
You may or not be a organized person, that's nothing of my business, but in NS Sports forums there's a common sense that things belong where they always belonged. The Roleplay thread is not the Discussion Thread because it would get too crowded of useless information. So please stick to the right content.

2. To save time of the fellow roleplayers.
In the first page of the event proper, the IG thread, players publish its nations roster. Rosters are there for many reasons, but the most important is: to other people find them easily. When you place a bunch of useless information that could be in the proper topic, it gets harder to people finding the rosters of the other teams. Especially when it comes to people using mobile devices, when loading and scrolling may be harsh.

3. To avoid being a douchebag that thinks "I'm different and I don't care about the work of others".
Self-explaining.

Pretty much this but also because the Everything Thread is for IC (in-character) stuff, whether they be rosters, roleplays (or RPs for short) or, if you're hosting anything, results. I'm not going to say any more on the matter due to the fact that I'm worried that I'll end up crossing into "mods as weapons" territory or I'll be abusing my power as VP of the World Cup of Hockey Federation but I honestly advise that any OOC stuff, whether they be questions or comments, should be posted here from now on. That being said, I'll answer your questions as best as I can even though they've been answered:

1) Your roster must be posted in the IC/Everything thread. You can post in a factbook if you want, especially if you've got plenty of information to add that would just clutter up the thread, but I'd honestly recommend posting it in the IC/Everything thread.

2) Since you've already posted your roster, I don't really need to answer it. But all rosters and pre-tournament RPs if you're doing any must be up and posted before the cut-off on MD1, which in this case is the 23rd January. Of course, you don't have to do it before then but it is generally recommended.

3) To get a kit of your own, you just have to Google "ice hockey kit designer" or anything along those lines. I'd recommend Owayo, which is what Lisander linked to, but if you want something different go ahead. You don't have to buy the kit for obvious reasons but rather just make it on the site and save it as either a JPEG or PNG (I'd also recommend the latter due to the fact that it'll look better). Once you've done that and maybe touched it up in Paint, Photoshop or any other software like that (mostly so you can make it smaller so you can post it on here), upload it to Imgur** and then copy the BBCode for it onto here.

4) If you haven't already (and you don't have to do this but it would be very helpful if you'd like to RP a match or anything related to the sport), I'd recommend not only looking up the rules (Wikipedia would be a good place to start) watching a few games on YouTube. The NHL's pretty much your best bet as it's the biggest league in the World. Watching the Olympics or World Championships is another way to go, especially if your team doesn't fight. And, since you seem to be from a German-speaking country, though I'm not sure which one, try and find a game from either the DEL, EBEL, NLA or whatever your real-life country's league's called. Or even go to a game if you have a local team, much like me and my local Coventry Blaze up here in England.

* Cmd+C then Cmd+V if you're on a Mac. I'm not sure what the equivalent would be if you're using a phone or tablet.
** Other picture-sharing websites are available but Imgur's pretty much the best one to use.

I understand that you're new here and that things might seem a bit confusing at first but I'd recommend following the advice of people who've been around here for longer, especially since they've got some experience and as a result know what to do. If you need any help with anything, again I'd recommend posting here but also sending one of us a telegram (TG). If you need any help with RPing anything, especially since a well-written one would make you more likely to do better in the tournament, I'd personally recommend asking an RP mentor for some help; Neu Engollon might be a good person to start with since not only is he a mate of mine on here but also because he's taking part in the tournament (and has done for quite a while) so he'd know what to do.

Thank you, not only for updating the rankings but also for bringing that Flekkefjord CTE'd to my attention. I'll edit it into the sign-ups thread now.
