On Species and Equestrian Hoofball
The Equestrian States is a nation of incredible diversity. When many countries make this kind of statement, they are referring only to racial matters dealing with differences in skin color or culture. But the Equestrian States takes diversity to a whole new level, with dozens of sapient species living alongside each other in harmony. From pegasai to griffons, and humans to dragons, the Equestrian States is among the most diverse nations known to exist. But diversity has also had a unique and intriguing impact on the playing of sports in the Equestrian States, and hoofball is no exception. In the following paragraphs, the natural strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies of each prominent species in the Equestrian States will be explored, offering those unfamiliar with the Equestrian States a chance to explore the wonderful diversity that makes the Equestrian States a great country and gives our beloved national hoofball team a versatility that few others can hope to match.

United States of Devonta Men's Soccer U-21 Team

Roster

Coach: Vince McMahon
Assistant Coach: Bruce Springsteen

Goalkeepers:

#1- Danny Cake Vanburen [Middleton F.C]
Height: 6’1 - Weight: 176 lbs - Age: 21 - Starter

#3- Francisco Marian Rodriguez [Danza F.C]
Height: 6’3 - Weight: 195 lbs - Age: 20 - Substitute

Left Defenders [Left Fullbacks/Wingers]:

#6- AJ Gupta Styles [Astro F.C]
Height: 5'10 - Weight: 157 lbs - Age: 19 - Starter

#7- Donny Rudolf Simpson [Harding F.C]
Height: 5'11 - Weight: 168 lbs - Age: 19 - Substitute

Center Defenders [Center Backs/Sweepers]:

#5- Martin Paul Benton [Middleton F.C]
Height: 6’1 - Weight: 188 lbs - Age: 20 - Starter
A product of Blue River Valley High Schools soccer program Benton arises from high school soccer a three time MVP and many best player awards including many man of the matches. He was instantly drafted as a first round pick by Middleton F.C. During his first season Benton showed his worth as a fast and ultra observant sweeper for his team making many goals that could've been no more by knocking them out of the penalty box. In his second season his team made it to the finals. Benton played admirably till the last ten minutes when he made the mistake of passing the ball to player on the other team, Resulting in a 1-0 loss. Benton was driven to make it in the mens national team by his haunting mistake, That he did and as the second youngest player on the team.

Benton many strengths is is quick agility and his ability to focus on multiple points of the penalty box at one time, It is also not uncommon to see him quickly slide tackle without fouling. Critics have noticed he has gotten more aggressive on the field since his mistake and only passes short precise passes. If there is one thing everyone knows, It is he wants to redeem himself.

#4- Coby Lamar Rice [Real Langston F.C]
Height: 5’10 - Weight: 179 lbs - Age: 19 - Starter

#2- Fredrick Banhammer Joe [Strickland F.C]
Height: 6'4 - Weight: 197 lbs - Age: 19 - Substitute

Right Defenders [Right Fullbacks/Wingers]:

#9- Eric James Martin [Real Langston F.C]
Height: 5’10 - Weight: 167 lbs - Age: 21 - Starter
Martin was not introduced to soccer till he decided to try out for his high schools soccer team at a freshman and made junior varsity. The next year he was pushed up to the varsity team and in the next three years. In his senior year his high school won the state championship partly because of him. Martin then went to college at Langston University where he played soccer for two years having an okay first season and a good second season, His performance in the second season of his college career earned him a chance to play for Real Langston F.C which he proudly took and signed with the team for two years. Martin had an exciting but still disappointing first year. He had his good and bad moments and critics were a shocked by his poor performance. Looking for another opportunity to shine Martin found himself at the national teams training camp and was selected for the roster.

Martin is a quick Right Fullback and he is not afraid to challenge an opponent for the ball, Although this can backfire if his opponent is good at crossing but his speed makes up for any lost ground. Martin is known for only being able to play on the right side of the field and normally played poorly in the center and left side of the field.

#8- Mathew Alexander Creasmen [Carter Villa F.C]
Height: 6'1 - Weight: 174 - Age: 17 - Substitute

Defensive Midfielder:

#10- Marco Hernandez Jr. [Ceceila United F.C]
Height: 5’8 - Weight: 145 lbs - Age: 21 - Starter
Hernandez begun his soccer career playing for a local youth league team, He left the team during his first year of high school to play for a minor league team. He played up and down seasons for six years, Four of those years he played on his high schools varsity team to. His six season at the age of 20 was his most successful and his team won the minor league championships. Hernandez was signed by Ceceila United F.C and listed in there reserves. During his first season in the reserves he played two games and did well in both. He is suspected to be a starter for the team next season. Hernandez surprisingly was selected to play for the national team after a excellent show at the national training camp.

Hernandez is known for his nice crosses and his ability to slide tackle well, He is not the fastest player but not the slowest either. He struggles with finding and then passing to a man, Whether he kicks it out or down the field if pressured too much.

#12- Zahhere Amadeus Abdul [Riverton F.C.]
Height: 5’10 - Weight: 158 lbs - Age: 19 - Substitute

Left Midfielders:

#11- Anthony Don Crox [Devonta City Capitals]
Height: 5’9 - Weight: 161 lbs - Age: 21 - Starter
Crox did not start playing soccer till he was sixteen years old, Playing for his local high school team and managing to bring them to two city wide championships both years, But his team lost on the state level. By the time he graduated he received a scholarship to play for Kanza University and he took it over three other scholarships. He played for Kanza University for two seasons and helped them win one championship. After two years he was offered a large contract lasting two years with the Devonta City Capitals, A minor league team. In his first season he played well and his the Capitals made it to the finals but were defeated 1-0. Crox was one of the few minor league players invited to the national teams training camp and in an impressive feat was selected to play for the national team.

Crox is better suited for defense then he is on the offense, That is one reason he plays as a defensive midfielder. Known in the minor leagues for being able to mark men and pass, Although he is also known for being too aggressive and bad crossing. Crox as shown he can learn more from his more professional teammates and is very promising.

#13- Nicolas Xavier Fulton [Mandiana F.C.]
Height: 5’10 - Weight: 158 lbs - Age: 18 - Substitute

Right Midfielders:

#14- Tyre Irving Edwards [Harding F.C]
Height: 6’0 - Weight: 179 lbs - Age: 20 - Starter

#15- Julius Xander Washington [Mandiana F.C.]
Height: 5’11 - Weight: 171 lbs - Age: 21 - Substitute
Washington begun playing soccer at a young age for local youth leagues around it hometown. When he attended high school he chose to continue to play for local youth teams instead of his high school. When he graduated after limited success in the youth league other than a few awards, He attended George Town State University and played two surprisingly well seasons for his team, Breaking his universities record for assists and sending them to the semi-finals his last year. Before signing a two year contract with Mandiana F.C., An emerging professional soccer club. In his first year as a substitute he played well and helped the team to the semi-finals. Washington was invited to tryout at the national teams training camp and he soon accepted the invitation, After hard work and a determined effort Washington was selected for the national team.

Washington is a moderately fast midfielder who is very versatile, Although he plays better on the offense. His abilities to control the ball and keep it are widely noted. He struggles with finding openings to pass but shows he is willing to learn from more senior players on his team.

#16- Alexander Graham Jones [Mariner F.C.]
Height: 5’9 - Weight: 154 lbs - Age: 21 - Substitute
Alexander played soccer for his local youth soccer league before he joined his high schools varsity soccer team leading them to a city wide championship twice in his four years of playing for his high school, After high school he managed to get signed onto a minor league where he played two great seasons but with limited success. Recruiting agents for major league soccer watching one of his games decided to work out a contract with Jones. Jones signed a two year contract with Mariner F.C., In just one season he helped his team to the quarter-finals and became a noted player. Jones received an invite to the national teams training camp for tryouts and proudly accepted it, After a superb effort he managed to make the national team.

Jones is a good passer and knows how to keep tempo with the game. He plays better on the right side of the field and lacks crossing capabilities.

Offensive Midfielders:

#17- Kyle Tallahassee Jr. [Riverton F.C.]
Height: 5’10 - Weight: 162 lbs - Age: 21 - Starter

#18- DeMarie Franz Burton [Nordland F.C.]
Height: 5’10 - Weight: 164 lbs - Age: 20 - Substitute

Forwards:

#19- Lamar Samuel Adams [Danza F.C.]
Height: 5’9 - Weight: 157 lbs - Age: 17 - Starter
Adams attended the Dock City Soccer Academy most of his child life, He quickly made himself known and became noted around the United States of Devonta, Helping his college expand their soccer dynasty. By the age of 17 he was already in talks with the professional league, He signed with Danza F.C. for two years in a deal that was reported around the nation. Adams became the youngest player in the league when he signed his contract. His first year at Danza F.C. went well but his team only made it to the quarter-finals. Adams was invited to the national teams training camp and proudly accepted, It was no surprise when he was chose as a starting forward, Making him the youngest player on the national team.

Adams is a quick versatile Forward, Using his speed to make good crosses and get through defenders, His dribbling and control are also noted. Shooting seems almost basic to him. Adams has also shown is worth defending using his speed. Adams sometimes gets too frustrated or has problems with bragging about his goals.

#20- Condor Jesse Madrid [Riverton F.C.]
Height: 5’10 - Weight: 158 lbs - Age: 20 - Starter

#21- Jeremy Jackson Creeds [Ceceila United F.C]
Height: 5’11 - Weight: 162 lbs - Age: 21 - Substitute

Cosumar U21 National Team - Di Bradini Cup 33

Image

Team Information

Nation: The Fiefdom of Cosumar

Government: Cosumar is technically a Fiefdom, comprised of 21 historical "fiefs" which are now effectively provinces. Cosumar is a constitutional monarchy with King James II at its head. The populace believes wholeheartedly in complete civil rights, protecting nature and exploring outer space.

Region: Atlantian Oceania

Official Nickname: Dragons

Colors: Royal Blue, Silver, White

Stadium: The Royal Palace (capacity 54,000)

Location: Ramusok, Ramusok Fief, Cosumar.

Team: The roster consists of 24 players, 23 of which are standard human (homo sapiens sapiens). The other, midfielder Nikolae Na'Kebia, is Vloo (homo cosumarensis), a human species native to Cosumar. The average Vloo is about two inches taller than the average human, and they must wear different cleats due to their unique foot structure. Vloo are roughly equivalent to humans in terms of strength and speed, but have blue skin and two small horns on the top of their head. Most Vloo's horns are mostly covered by their thick, black hair. In the image of the senior squad, this Cosumarite team features an emphasis on surgically-precise passing and technical possession football.

Style Modifier: +3

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Kit

Image

The senior National Team wears splendid kits from Meski Soccer Store, first used in WC70. Since it should be an honor of great prestige to don the uniform of the National Team (one that must be earned), our youth teams do not use the same one. Our U21 Team will wear the old kits of the senior National Team (provided by Barrengeka Kits), used from World Cup 54 to 69 and decommissioned last year. These are pictured above. Like the current National Team kit, both the home and away jerseys make heavy use of the national colors (blue, white, silver), while the keeper's uniform is gold and green - the royal family's colors.

At the first gathering of the D-Cup U21s . . .

"So what is this about a name-changing idea?"
"Oh, that's something cool they do in other countries."
"They change their names?"
"Name. Just one name, mostly. Everyone does it in sumo wrestling . . ."
". . . but it's cooler with some footballers. Lots of guys from someplace called BRA-zill, get it?"
"I don't get why we should be like fat guys and foreigners. What's so cool about that?"
"Well, I like it. It'll be attention-getting."
"Like I need more than . . . this . . . to get attention?"
"Like anyone's gonna give a Martha a second look, Martha."
"So who picks?"
"We do. Each of us on our own or working together."
"Idea! I have an idea!"
"Probably lame, but what?"
"Everyone pick a name starting with D. You know, like D-Cup."
"And everyone's name should end with A too."
"Why?"
"I read in a book once . . ."
"You read a book? I call BS."
"Shut up and let her finish. Gracie?"
"I read about an author who liked to pick women's names ending in a. 'A name ending in A, that always suggests a C cup.'"

And so it began.

  • I expect to set Diana and Daralysa up as future stars, but you don't need to.
  • Godmods are fine. Injuries are not. If you give one of the girls a card, just be creative about it.
  • The really hot ones are Debra, Djinda, all six-one of Danica, and Daralysa.

Chapter 3, Part 5

Postby Star United States » Thu Jan 15, 2015 7:57 pm

The Rise and Fall
Chapter 3, An Ending to the War?
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
The Battle of Jarille | An Ending to the War?

War Room, Star United States Islands
“Sir, we have not received any word from the inland troops that successful invaded Jarille.”
“Hm?”
“They were sent to Lake Star, the assumed capital of the Blun Communist State. They have not reported back.”
“Call a meeting.”
“Yes sir.”

Somewhere in the inhabited places in the Blun Communist State
“Sir, we are rather close to Lake Star.”
“Copy that.”
the new cadet begins to copy it onto a piece of paper
“What are you doing?”
“I’m copying it…”
“Um…”

“Philip, call the planes, time to finish this once and for all.”
“Yes sir.”

The sun rose over the beautiful, and calm, Lake Star. The city has stood as the unannounced capital of the Blun Communist State since their hostile take over. The city was protected by a small number of military forces. The Islander’s Military surrounded, positioning themselves in the forest encircling the city, excluding the docks for the lack.

The invading side’s goal was laying right at the center of the city. At the heart of Lake Star lies the Blun Government Building, with a huge flag that was visible from far away. The defending side’s goal was to keep them from getting to the heart and to the flag. It was like a “Capture the Flag” game, expect that there was only one flag. The Building was protected by the advanced design of the city, and as well by the skyscrapers that surrounded it. However, it was easy to reach, via parachutes.

About noon time, the invading airplanes came in, and bombed their military targets, attempting to avoid any non-military areas. The Blun Communist State was under attacked, and they acted such as.

The sun went down, and the street lights flickered on, that’s when the planes soared out of the clouds, and performed their mission. The silver objects fell onto the earth with a loud crash.

There were four military posts, owned and operated by the Blun Communist State, right outside the city. The northern, eastern, western, and southern posts all fought back, however, were completely outnumbered, especially with the planes that departed from the famous docks of Urbanista, Apox arriving just in time. The planes devoured the places, and made them into rubber, and ashes.
The planes successfully completed their mission, however, many planes were lost. A number that cannot compare to the number of lives lost on the day of the destruction of City of Star, the glorious capital of the Republic, were lost on the Blun side. Without protect from the outside, Lake Star was left vulnerable. That’s when the land troops went in.

Easily, they reached the halfway mark, and that’s where they met a shocking surprise. A line of Blun defense that was not taken in count when the planning was done. It was a brutal site. Both sides fought to their best, however, only one prevailed. Gunshots resounded, and people fell to their death.

A reporter describes the scene as: “... a hard to watch scene. It was like a bloody scene of a horror movie. It was devastating.” The Great Battle of Lake Star left thousands dead.

Planes came in to finish the job, and dropped explosives throughout the defense line. Smog resided in the city’s atmosphere. Things were not very clear.

It was a thick smoke, and although it was night, it was rather noticeable. The moon could no longer been seen in the what-used-to-be a starry night. The noise of the war died down in the darkness and void.

The sun rose, and the smoke started to clear out.

High in the sky, it flew.

Furellum's Roster for DBC 33
Furellum is a small nation at the mouth of the Taaru sea in Atlantian Oceania. Or at least that's what it looks like. In actual fact, the vast majority of the nation is located in another dimension, connected to the Atlantian Oceania portion by a magical bridge at the top of the White Tower. Furellum is a land of magic, however this magic is connected to the land and will not work outside the country unless the user is either a very powerful magic or happens to have a source of ether on him, which is unlikely. The majority of Furellum's population is anthropomorphic animals; over 90% are mammals, with amphibians and reptiles making up the remainder. It is unclear wether the fish or birds are sentient, or just regular creatures. Humans are newcomers to the country, only arriving in the middle ages. Furellum is still stuck in the middle ages in many ways: They lack any type of electrical power or goods, or modern technology. Humans conquered the country in the name of the King of Maalvia, making it a Grand Duchy. However, recently the country has undergone a revolution, and is now under the control of the fascist Corvidae party. The country is led by Special Administrator Yuri Kedzierski, and the Supreme Leader of the Corvidae party Lex Crowley, who is hiding out in Furellum for the moment.

Furellum's roster for the 70th World Cup reflects the political shift the nation has undergone. The Corvidae regime, believing in the superiority of canines over all other species, has stacked this team full of the "master species". There's no humans for the same reason, and the other species are all here on merit. Many of these players have come from Under-15 World Cup squads, as well as the last DBC and WC70 teams.

Kits
Furellum have new kits this cycle, as always courtesy of Barunian company Foroni Fabrics. The kits were debuted at the 32nd Di Bradini Cup. On the shoulders of the home kits are the roman numerals for 31 and 52, symbolising the 31st Di Bradini Cup and the 52nd Under-21 World Cup, which Furellum won.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM - MIXED

This will be the second time that Abanhfleft will be participating in the Di Bradini Cup. The Fleftic Football Federation has decided to send forth the same team that the country sent to the 32nd Di Bradini Cup, with a few changes in players because they have now grown older than the maximum age limit of the tournament. Radoslaw Montwill has been quietly replaced as manager by his assistant manager, Celerino delos Reyes. Most of the Di Bradini participants remains the same, except for Ikenna Obama, Connie Anderson, Tomas Walters, Valery Zolnerov, and Marguerite Chambers, who are now all graduates of the youth system. Once again, players to watch out for are Rory Edwards, younger brother of Abanhfleft men's national team captain Luke Edwards; Yoshinobu Mori, Karen Villegas, and surprise packages Ainsley Gibson and Zsofia Dolan.

Based on Simeone Di Bradini, the Starblaydian footballer, this U-21 World Cup is one of a kind, and the Allied Omahan team will be participating as one of the qualifiers in Group A along with:
Pasarga
Yttribia
Furellum
Eura
Patistan
Polaaskan

It will sureley be difiicult for the young team as they don't have much experience in this great competition. Although we have a few notable players, along with the captain Junaid Khan, the vice captain Ham'xa Xalem, Awax Zeroz and Sa'ad Alee. The team is young and is yet to make his mark on the cup stage.

Nova Anglicana U21 Football Team "The Young Lions"

Manager: Andy McGrath (U20 football manager)

Captain: Alec Chapin

Starting XI/Formation

Image

This offense is still an attacking offense, although much less attacking than previous editions. Much of this is due to the loss of all but five players from the U23 Olympic team that made it to the final. Their replacements are a motley collection of 2nd division players and university students. There's definitely some potential in this group, but it will be up to McGrath to draw it out. They play a more or less flat 4-4-2, with McGrath relying on the discipline and strength of the college players. On the defensive side, Josh Owens moves into a starting role, accompanied by the man whom many expect will command a massive signing bonus either in the NAFL or abroad, Aaron Bowen. Bowen burst onto the scene last year, captaining the university champions New Brunswick and showing a great boot, pace, and tackling ability. They will be joined by fullbacks Matt Wells and Cory Henry, newly purchased by Brenecia's Rozelle. Their ability to get up and down the wings will be crucial for this team. On the offensive side, wingers Jake Rhodes (new member of Taeshan's Atlantea Hurricanes) and Brendan McBride will terrorize opposing fullbacks. Rhodes is a pure speedster with good finishing skills who is an average passer and makes daring runs into the box with the speed to recover back on defense. McBride is a technical marvel who will also be on the market come his graduation. Great on the ball, wonderful crosser, and good speed. Just don't expect him to score many goals. The captain, Alec Chapin (now with Nephara's Maximum Rovers), will provide support up the middle, moving forward while Colin Dawson, the phenom and son of Libertarian Party head William Dawson, will generally drift back to cover up on D. Mathieu Garçon could really use some good coaching, which he will hopefully get from McGrath and new Buyanese club Gornak Wladica. He has a lot of responsibility up front, but his youth and his boundless energy are his greatest assets. Simmons is another all-out attacker with great speed who easily tires out enemy defenders.

As for other players on the team, starting keeper Jerome Vincent let in just twenty goals in twenty-two matches for FC Mineurs last year. He will be key on defense. Defender Nick Gilbert could be quite good in a few years, while forward David Gleason just missed out on a starting spot after scoring 13 goals a year ago for First Nations FC. Also of interest are the Spanish immigrant Alfonso Bécquer (his Protestant family wanted to live in a country where there was more support of their beliefs), who led the University of Prince Edward Island to a quarterfinal appearance in his freshman year, and the son of national team legend Raphael Baptiste, Jacques Baptiste. The young striker is currently earning his stripes with FC Acadia in the Sovereign Division, but if he's half as good as his father, he'll be quite the player some day.

NEPHARA U-21s
Preferred Formation:
4-4-2
Style Modifier: 0
Playstyle: Low on possession, but high on pressure, with fast play and short passing. Very physical, quite pacy.
Kit Supplier: Cloaker
Nickname: The Magpies

This is a strange batch. 'Strange' as in 'actually filled with players who started more than ten games in the Premiership'. Including an insane glut of central midfielders. Oh, and this came after poaching the manager of the most youth-friendly club in the top flight. This coming two years after Tess Riether - recently fired from lowly Westpike - and her somewhat more ramshackle squad came second.

It's fair to say expectations are pretty high back home.

Most RPs I will post a sheet for the next game, but if I don't then this will be the lineup (also assume in use for the first game).

* Ashdown takes penalties, Stockinger takes most free-kicks and corners
** I'll have the final say on severity.
*** One per match.

Malta FLETCHER - 39
Manager

Riether's promotion from Under-21 manager to senior manager left her, well, without an Under-21 manager. She went the direct route in search of a replacement. Formerly with Extreme Hills, Fletcher's reputation for favouring youth, nurturing youth, and getting them to hold their own in the midtable of the Premiership made her an obvious choice to lead the Magpies. Furthermore, she agrees with a physical, athletic style of play that works to Nepharim strengths, while also believing that a good physio makes a good team. She'll be missed at the Laith.

Dorcas FADDEN - 38
Assistant Manager

A reliable tactician promoted from within the national team. Fadden believes Nephara have what it takes to win the tournament proper, and nobody can fault the fervour with which she'll pursue these goals.

Goalkeepers
1 - Sigrid Cooper (South Laithland) - Age 21
12 - Sheila Kilgallon (Maximum City) - Age 21
20 - Lowen Archer (Project +90) - Age 20

No Ballard or Corren this time - instead, Cooper, who helped South Laithland to promotion, is still a very strong and capable communicator in the goalmouth, quick on her feet and, it has to be said, a little erratic. But she's been in great form this past season. Kilgallon's been trusted with Cup matches for a long time, and has never let the squad down. Lowen Archer has been Project +90's first-choice, and so remains third-choice this time around.

2 - RB - Sarah Carmady (AFC Treason) - Age 21
3 - LB - Malachi Hawkshaw (Cranequin Wanderers) - Age 21
5 - CB - Kieran Ritter (Bastion, EUR) - Age 21
6 - CB - Rebecca Larkland (Leichhardt, c) - Age 21
13 - CB - Tess Wyclif (Sabrefell Moths) - Age 21
17 - RB - Bastian Keller (AFC Integabad) - Age 20
19 - LB - Kurtis Rakeruth (Goodfeather FC) - Age 21
22 - CB - Lukas Finnan (Raven River) - Age 21

Carmady was second-choice rightback throughout Treason's season - one vigorously contested on four fronts, meaning she saw a lot of time on the pitch. Hawkshaw was a regular for the Wanderers, and might just be Nephara's future at left-back given a relative dearth of others coming through. Ritter is very certainly Nephara's future at centreback after a prosperous season in the Euraleague, following in the footsteps of Brandon, Rowland and Coleman before him. Larkland might have played for struggling Leichhardt, but she's already played 83 Premiership matches over the course of two seasons for a team with a reasonably solid defence. Wyclif, Finnan and Rakeruth all picked up a fair few starts, while Keller was a regular for promoted Integabad - while the player's senior nation choice is far from certain, given he's unlikely to break past the likes of Carmady, Christener and Rhein, he's a valuable part of this Under-21 squad

4 - CM - Elsa Layland (Maximum City, vc) - Age 21
7 - RM - Gazzincha (Vermillion Rage) - Age 20
8 - CM - Rook Branagh (Lajuno, EUR) - Age 21
11 - LM - Saskia Hasselbaink (Vermillion Rage) - Age 21
14 - CM - Auburn Tarrant (Extreme Hills) - Age 20
16 - CM - Tanith Rainsford (AFC Treason) - Age 20
18 - LM - Sheila Hawkwood (Project +90) - Age 20
23 - RM - Abigail Mueller (Creed United) - Age 19

One could suspect Malta Fletcher's central midfield flood was a pretty good problem to have, all things considered. You could put in a fair argument that Gazzincha, Branagh and Tarrant are her three best players, all starting regularly at a high standard. All three are creative midfielders. Judging by the numbers, Branagh seems to have won that particular fight while the enigmatic Gazzincha's been shoved onto the right. Regular starter for City Elsa Layland will fight it out with Tanith Rainsford, an extremely talented deep-lying playmaker with Champions' Cup experience. Saskia Hasselbaink was another key part of Vermillion's extraordinary season with her lightning fast raids down the flank. Compared to these players, Hawkwood and Mueller, well, exist.

9 - CF - Theodora Covenant (North Laithland) - Age 20
10 - CF - Harald Matheson (Coret Hawks) - Age 21
15 - CF - Sabrine Portsgate (Crisisbless) - Age 21
21 - CF - Laura Weiler (Project +90) - Age 21

Covenant and Matheson were both regular starters last season, Covenant taking advantage of an ACL injury to Arragne a few months into the season and putting her terrifying pace and merciless finishing to good use. Matheson's the more standard Nepharim centreforward, but no less effective. Interestingly, both were lone forwards in a 4-2-3-1 system, and yet their skillsets seem to work perfectly. Sabrine Portsgate was Crisisbless' third-choice striker, and she ended the long years of Crisisbless, well, having really bad backup strikers. Weiler's ready to move on from the Project, but her years there have served her well - there's more than a little Islander flair in her play.

STRANGER DANGER PRESENTS:
Natus ex Aere
The Unofficial Fan Blog of Mesillano International Sports
Welcome to Natus ex Aera!
By Carlos del Negro, two weeks ago

Welcome to Natus ex Aere, the unofficial fan blog of the Bronze, La Mesilla's international sports teams in soccer and basketball. For those who don't know, I'm Carlos del Negro, and most of the time I'm known as the man behind Stranger Danger, another unofficial fan blog dedicated to the Strangers FC, La Mesilla's only professional soccer franchise. I'm also a big fan of Mesillano sports in general, though, so I decided to open a blog dedicated to the Bronze in whatever forms it may take in the next few years.

You may be wondering what exactly I intend to cover, seeing as how La Mesilla has a whole one international sports team, the Bronze basketball team, but I'm here to tell you there's more coming. Besides unconfirmed rumors of a team from the mysterious Silverwick Institute competing in the Quidditch World Cup, former Strangers center-back Avery Trujillo has been named to coach a team in the thirty-third Di Bradini Cup, better known as the U-21 World Cup, to be held in Starblaydia in two weeks' time. Though no one from the Soccer Federation has confirmed anything, as is their style, I say where there's smoke there's fire, and I'm holding out optimism that we see a Mesillano entry into the next Baptism of Fire/World Cup cycle.

In any case, my plan is to use this blog to cover all things Mesillano soccer, basketball, quidditch (if I can get the scores), and any other sport my homeland sees fit to enter into (the recent series of scrimmages between Yuma and LMMI in American football look promising). "Natus in Aere" is Latin for "Born in Bronze", and I think that describes me and most of my readers. We may have been copper before the Strange, but with the infusion of the Strange into our lives we've become something stronger, more durable; we've been re-born in bronze, and that's what we call our sports teams.
Trujillo Will Coach La Mesilla U21s in First Di Bradini Cup
By Carlos del Toro three weeks ago
Image
Trujillo's team will train at White Sands Missile Range

Former Strangers defender Avery Trujillo has been named the head coach for the first-ever Mesillano national under-twenty-one soccer team, which will compete in the thirty-third Di Bradini Cup to be held in Starblaydia in two months' time.

This news comes soon after Trujillo's sudden retirement, itself spurred by stress fractures in his feet that he says were enough to also get him discharged from active duty with the Mesillano Defense Forces.

"My feet are messed up, man," Trujillo joked. "I reported back to White Sands, and the first thing they did was give me a medical exam, and the podiatrist said there's zero chance of me returning to active duty or professional soccer"

The pain in his feet, which Trujillo described as "constant", is the result of nerve damage from playing repeatedly on stress fractures, which he says he concealed from the team's doctors while he was still playing. He says he doesn't know whether he will ever recover fully from the damage, but that playing football is out of the question.

"I messed up," he admitted, "I pushed myself to the point that it was stupid, and now I'm paying the consequences. I can't do either of the things I'm good at any more, so I gotta find something else."

Trujillo said that he got an offer about coaching the U-21s the same day he was discharged from active duty. "I guess they'd been asking around for somebody to work with these kids, and they were getting pretty desperate, so when they found out I was out of a job, they called me. At that point, I was starting to wonder if I should go to college or look for a job flipping burgers, so I was only too happy to accept."

Trujillo says the team started training less than a week after he accepted, and they will have six weeks to prepare to prepare to face the best U21 competition the multiverse has to offer. Many of the players are already familiar to their coach as members of the Strangers' reserve squad. Goalkeeper Miles Hurst; defenders Myra Church, Andre Brennan, and Ivy Burton; midfielders Mohamed GIlmore, Sophia Buckley, and Eula Richards; and striker Virgil Hunt all play for the Strangers, all told just under half the total roster of the U21s.

Offense Prevails in First DBC Qualifier
By Carlos del Toro one day ago

The saying "the best defense is a good offense" has been the subject of philosophical dissertations, empirical studies, and some of the greatest bar arguments of all time. None of these has been conclusive, but those in the affirmative camp will have another point to bring up after today's match between the Baby Bronze and the Vermark U-21s to open Di Bradini Cup qualifying. A strong performance by striker Manuel Reid sealed the Baby Bronze's first international win despite a weak showing from the defense.

The match started out on fairly even footing, with the young teams sounding each other out, both nervous to make a mistake on the largest stage most of their players have ever seen. The first player to make a deep plunge into enemy territory was Manuel Reid, the former standout from Silver City University, where he graduated in three years in order to further his soccer career faster. Reid, who has signed a contract with Vermillion Rage of Nephara, outran the Vermark defender marking him to position himself for a through ball from attacking mid Octavia Thomas. He turned and shot from the left corner of the box, putting the first international goal from a Mesillano team.

Vermark attempted to answer in kind with a quick stab into Bronze territory. Right-back Ivy Burton lost her footing as she pivoted to keep up with the Vermark midfielder who was cutting in toward the box, and made an ill-advised tackle once she caught up to him that sent the Vermark player sprawling and earned her a yellow card. The player took a dangerous free kick, but Strangers keeper Miles Hurst handled it no problem and booted the ball up field.

Neither team gained much traction for the balance of the first half, but when the whistle blew for the second, Octavia Thomas came out swinging. After receiving the opening kick from Ishmael Andrews, she saw a gap in the Vermark defense that she exploited, and as the young Vermish tried to close around her she cut through and buried the team's second goal just over sixty seconds into the second half, to raucous applause. Following that goal, Coach Trujillo made a move toward a more conservative style of play as he pulled versatile Strangers midfielder Mohammed Gilmore in favor of the more defensively-minded eighteen year-old Brooke McKay at the back of the diamond. Five minutes later, he seemed to want to keep the defensive game going, pulling a frustrated Ivy Burton in favor of sixteen year-old Jessie Horne.

Trujillo's choice of substitutes in this match was seen by some to indicate that fears he would favor Strangers reserve players over those with overseas contracts were unfounded. Some Strangers fans, however, felt he was favoring those players signed with foreign clubs over his former teammates, possibly as a hedge against accusations of favoritism. Strangers fans present at the match sang the Grateful Dead's "Feel Like a Stranger", the club's unofficial theme, as Burton came off the field, and a Twitter account believed to belong the Colonel, leader of the Strangers FC ultras firm the Bronze Brigade, posted following the game, "C'mon, Avery, if Horne were any good she'd be wearing bronze full-time."

For his part, Trujillo denied any accusations of favoritism or anti-favoritism, citing work ethic and in-game performance as his main factors when considering whom to sub in. "These players are young," said Trujillo in a post-game press conference, "They need to be able to make mistakes, but at the same time we've got to win games. With a two-goal cushion my main priority is making sure we don't blow it, and I made the decisions I had to."
